Because. Okay, so correct me if I'm wrong. I wanted to ask you about this. I saw somewhere online, like, a long time ago, a while back, that you were catching flack. Because if I'm not mistaken, you take care of your child's mother, right?

And you pretty much do everything for her to make sure that your child has the lifestyle that you know it deserves to live, Right?

[DJ Scream]

So how did you. How did you kind of, like, navigate through the Internet with that shit and rise above it to not let it affect you and kind of drive you crazy? Because they were trying to go in on you about that.

[DJ Scream]

I bought her another car. As soon as they got to saying something about it, I said, okay. Get you another one then, since they want to say something about it. Oh, somebody. Oh, somebody tell me, hey, you know, so and so with your baby, what do they think? I'm gonna stop. Okay, you want. That's cool. Let me get her something else. Let me buy a chain.

And what made you. What made you get to that point or like, make that decision that you were basically gonna make sure she was straight regardless, man.

[DJ Scream]

I did that because on July 4th or New Year's, my baby was crying and, well, he wasn't crying. He got scared of a firework and he's crying and she just started patting one. Like one time she. He stopped crying, started smiling, laughing, and I was like, okay, what that means he's safe. He's safe. He's in great hands. And I was just telling somebody this. I seen my mom cry when I was younger, and to this day, it's just feelings I can't get out of my sister because I can't make her feel better from what happened 20, 10 years ago, right? And then I realized, I said, well, damn, if my son sees my mom. I mean, my son sees his mom cry, it could be something he deals with for the rest of his life. And I got the power to change that, you know, I got the power to make sure that he don't have to go through that. So even if I'm not with her, if she's with somebody else, that's not my business. I made it to a point in life where I could take care of her, to take care of him. I'm not gonna say when he's 18, I might say, hey, I hope you stack some bread up. You know, like when he turns 18, I hope. I hope he was, you know, I hope he was. That's probably. But she's so independent and so cool. If you ask me when I'm 60, she's 60, whatever. If she wanted to make back when she was 60, I'll buy her back when she's 60.

So do you think that her being as cool as she is is what was able to put you guys in the space of the healthy co parenting and the good relationship that you guys have now? Like, outside of anything else going on?

[DJ Scream]

Yeah, it had to be that. It had to. But I already knew who she was. I knew what type of woman she was before. Before I.

[D Baby]

Before you even got with her cohabitated.

[DJ Scream]

I'll be honest with you, it was my partner's baby mama, but me and him kind of fell off. He was just changed down some dry I ain't even really do it because of that. It was more because I just. I don't know. But then she was just so cool and it was like, she's independent, you know. I love that about her. And she's been independent, so it's just. I don't see why I have to make her go to work if she could take care of my son. I don't trust babysitters and stuff like that, you know?

So I just rather her stay, basically pay her. Yeah. Like I just told somebody else. She went to Puerto Rico a couple weeks ago and I was like, bro, what? What? You know, I paid for that, you know. But I ain't know. She left. Like we were chilling and the next thing you know, she. I was in Puerto Rico a couple weeks. I said, what? What? You ain't tell me nothing about this, you know what I'm saying? And then, you know, no matter if I gotta tell you, I gotta tell you. So look, what's funny about it? I don't know.

I like you. I like you. This is what happened. I was in my DMs, right? I was in my DMs and I seen, I seen her name pop up and there was a picture. She had a two piece on. She was on a beach. She's on a beach, you know what I'm saying? And I'm looking and I say, hello, dog. You know what I'm saying? Where did it come from? And then I'm. I thought I said, you know what? This, I can curse. Yeah, you curse.

Yeah, of course.

I said, man, this, this. Hoe you. Hoe you. And I thought I said, man, this. And I smiled. I said this. And I smiled. I said, wow, she's having fun.

Like in a good way.

Yeah, she having fun. And to see my baby mama have fun, you know, she could be sick. Take care of the kids while they're sick. And then still her, she have just be sick, hurting, and I'll be gone. I can't help her. She gets through that. She gets through it all by herself.

But the fact that you're even able to remove your emotions from that situation and think that far, I never thought I'd be able to do it for real.

I was like. At first I was like. But I smiled and laughed off the rip. Okay, I was like this. And then I was like, wait, this? Yeah, she's having fun. I like that. I texted her right when I seen her. I said, I ain't gonna lie. You look good in that 2p. She gonna send me the picture. I said, I ain't wanna see the picture. I was just telling you, you look good. You know what I'm saying?

You only got one child.

I got two. No, I got. One's mine. I got another one that is basically mine. If you ask me, I say he's my son, but biologically not somebody else.

So do you take care of that baby mama, too?

Damn, you put me on. I was hoping. Nobody asked me that question. That's a tough story right there, but be honest with you. No, but.

Because it's not technically yours.

No, it's not even that. She just. She. She. She's more like. Man, I can't. I don't even want to talk about her, to be honest with you. I don't like. I don't really like.

How was it for you growing up down in Texas, man?

[DJ Scream]

It was. It was fine, bro. Bro, just, you know, everybody. Everybody's life has complications in them, you know, even. Even them rich kids who they. Sometimes they go through crazy. You know what I'm saying? But me, I just learned from so much as a kid, you know, another typical we go through. I can tell you that. I can't tell you that everybody is typical like that. That we go through.

What part. What part of life you feel like, made you want to be successful? Like, what. What you endured in your life to make you feel like, man, I got to be something different.

[DJ Scream]

I ain't. Like. That's actually a good question. I wouldn't even say that. Really just clicked in. Like, it didn't. Like, y' all can hear me good over there. I wouldn't say that just really clicked in until maybe years later, like, as a teenager or something. Because as a kid, when I started, like, opposite. As a kid, just see my uncle rapping with his friends, and like I said, I rap with him and just have fun. As a kid, you seeing stuff, but they hide drum, and you just see all of that, you know, and you just. Damn. You start rapping and then just keep playing around with it, playing around with it, and then just kept going until you get to a certain age where you realize, okay, bet, this is what I want to do. This is what I really want to do, you know, what you want to do at a certain time. But then there's another time where you actually realize this is What I want to do, maybe I got to get to get into it, which is when you get older, because you can't do that as a child playing around, you know what I'm saying? When you get a little bit older, realize more things. Like, I made my first three songs and I was like eight maybe, at a studio in the hood, Swim in the city. I was young. Notice when my uncle rapping and stuff, you know, so down the line, I just realized, okay, that's what I want to do, what I got to do to get there and then just get emotional. Whatever you got to do, just get in motion and stay in motion and keep going and keep going and keep going. That's all you got to do is keep going. That's what I do. I just keep going.

Now, what was that moment when you said, like, ain't no plan B, you know what I'm saying? This all I got, man.

I'm gonna be honest with you. I want to say I. When I. When I first started playing around with music when I was young, playing around, I would say I, I knew. But let's say maybe, man, I knew for some years. I knew for so long, bro. I knew since I was a kid. I knew this was it. Like, whatever happens, this gotta work. Yeah, I remember what age where it was. It had to be about 8, 9 when I went to go make my first three songs with my uncle. You gotta be around that time. I knew, I always knew I know what I gotta do and I know what I got. A lot of people, they don't know what they got and what they want to do. So you gotta know, you gotta know if you got it when you go do that. You can't just, you can't have no doubts about it. You gotta know that you can't do that, you know.

Why you think so many people compare you to Kevin Gates? Is it because of the collaboration or do y' all really have you feel like similarity, like life similarities?

[DJ Scream]

Know, I, I, I appreciate him a lot, but I tell him I appreciate him a lot. Like, I take some out of nowhere. So I ain't going to thank God for you, bro. Cuz without you, I probably wouldn't even been rapping like this, to be honest with you. I was rapping a little different. And when I heard him, it was just, it really changed my life what I told him that, you know, I could call him and tell him. I told, I tell him, like, hey. And then he tell me, hey. I'm still shocked probably to this day that he actually, like. He'll tell me, like, I'm a fan. I listen to music. And I'm like. Like, that's one person. And that. It just shocked the hell out of me, to be honest with you. Everybody else, I feel regular around, like a regular person. But him, I was mad, too, the first time I talked to him, bro, because I froze up. And I was so mad because it was on FaceTime. I was with Booby Black. Yeah, man, I froze up. So bad food. I was mad dog. He was like, so much to say.

But nothing to say.

I didn't say nothing. I said, okay, okay, okay. You know what I'm saying, bro? We're on the phone. Tell me. I heard him on the phone. He went booby across the table. He what? I'm. You know, like, I'm lesser than. He put him on the phone. I would high as hell. I don't even smoke like that at the moment. I would hire with Black Booby. I was. Yeah, he put him on the phone. I said, damn. He gave me a phone. He was like, what up? You know, he said, she, like, remote because I missed. Because something like, they was just rapping. And I'm just like, yo, man, if I with you know what I'm saying? He tell me, I gotta come get in your face, man. It's the funniest ever, bro. The funniest shit. I don't think I ever even told nobody. Just. I swear to God. Look, I swear to God, I'm on FaceTime when I'm on the phone. Look, look, we on the phone. He, man, he. So y' all gotta come get in your face. I'm like, okay. I swear to God. Hey, man, I was mad as hell. I said, damn. I think Booby said, give me the phone. Oh, he was like, pass Booby the phone. I bet I ain't even say gave it to him. And I'm like, damn.

So you think he took. You think he took it as initially, you think he. He felt that you was kind of having a moment? He might have thought, like, you didn't with him, though.

I've been talking to Booby about four or five years before that, maybe even seven year. I've been talking to Boo. I've been trying to get in contact with gays both six years before I actually talk to him.

You know what I'm saying? But, you know, that's another thing. As an artist standpoint, I tell you, you just got to keep going. You Know, you get there.

I think that's the universal theme of everybody that's been on this couch today, is to keep going, like, no matter what. But you gotta never know.

You gotta understand that, though, like, a lot of people, you. You might. A lot of artists that might. You. You ain't. You ain't acknowledged me back then. I'm blowing up now. You want to talk to me, tell me you like my music. A lot of people be like, I ain't gonna with you. You know what I'm saying? Me, I don't. I don't do that because I understand that, you guys. It's just work. You got to put in. He had to put in more work than I had to put in privately, because he started with. Wasn't really no Instagram, you know what I'm saying? He had to do way more than I had to do to get to where I was at. I mean, really? Yeah, no, he did. He did. I ain't even gonna see him try to down that situation. He had to do a lot more than that. Even if he didn't, though, if somebody blew up, right? If somebody made a song today, blew up the mall, and I would still treat him like he took forever to do that. You know what I mean? Like, he said I would respect the situation. So if he didn't want to talk to me and he was cocky and he blew up in a day, he's cocky. And then I want to work with him, and he don't talk to me till two, three years later, I'm still be like, man, I fuck with you.

You know, I'm not gonna say nothing. You ain't trying to holler at me back then when you. I'm not gonna say none of that.

Hey, not. That's what it was, though. I was up by two, three days, and I had to drive all the way to Dallas to go do the safety interview. That's where you're seeing it. When he said I was sober at, man, what did I tell y'? All? False information, bro. Only reason I got no cup right now, I swear to God, is I don't got no soda. But I know you heard my little pill shake when I grabbed my bag earlier. I ain't. But, I mean, I'm under a little bit more control, though. You know what I'm saying? I'm. I can honestly tell you, I put one line.

Hell, yeah, it does. That's a big part of the reason why I don't. A lot of my fans being the comments like, damn, if he goes, so, you know, we need that cup, and we need that. They like that. What I was up. You know what I'm saying? I was up. After that, I was good. Like, I was happy. I mean, I was happy when I woke up, but that was just different. It made me just continue to be happy. Only thing it was is my body was numb. I'm not numb. I was just aching. I was aching because I've been asleep for. So it wasn't even because of drinking, because I was. I was laying down.

It just won't leave, you know what I'm saying? It's just not leaving. I don't know what it is. It just won't let me be, you know. And like a couple days later I had to stay at her house because I was like, man, I can't move on. I was laying on the couch and about February, February 3rd or some like that, I'm laying on the couch and in the morning I woke up, I couldn't move, so I had to like slide off the couch. You know what I'm saying? I slid off the couch and I pulled myself back up on the couch and I got in praying position and I was praying for like 15, 20 minutes, just saying the same thing over and over again. Like, like, basically like, I, I for now. I know I can't do this alone. God let you take control. I forgot exactly what I said, but it was something along those lines. Like, I let you take control now. For now. I can't do it alone. Just, you know, saying the same thing for about 15, 20 minutes, Brian. Towards the end, I started feeling better. And I said I was just right there. I couldn't move. I was playing. I couldn't move from the praying position. I couldn't even. My body was weak, you know what I'm saying? And towards the end, I just started getting stronger. And then my breath started to come back, and then my body stopped hurting. And I wasn't on drugs at the time, so it wasn't drugs. It was actually me. Just my body was. I was tired. My head was almost tired of everything. And towards the end of the prayer, it was like, breathe. I was. I could stand up. And I smiled, took a deep breath in. Like, I looked outside, I seen the sun. I went over there, I pulled a chair and put it in the middle of the sun in the yard, in the backyard, and I just sat there. Well, I went and got a gym membership about an hour later. About two months before. I just. No more. Just gym. She mars, fruit, Te everything.

So what made you go back, though?

I got covered, and I wanted to see if I could taste the hot wing that was the nastiest ever, boy. Oh, my God.

Oh, you saying you got coven. You want to see if your taste.

[DJ Scream]

Was still there, man. Bro, I. The texture was so nice because I dipped it in ranch. I got the hottest wings they got. And ranch. I said, I'm about to try it it. Because, you know, usually when I eat it, it's hot, but I can't taste it.

Yeah.

[DJ Scream]

So I dip it in the ranch and bite it. Man, what the. It tastes like it was. Just get the animal straight out, you know what I'm saying? Bitter little ass. You know what I'm saying? To our peace off.

Got the bite, man, but, you know, let me ask you something. And we ain't gonna take this to no health, but for you knowing that you felt better, why you ain't just stick to that or go back to it?

I wanted some hot wing. Hey, man, I wanted some hot wing food. I ain't going to. I said, man, I know if I could taste this, it would be good, man. Next thing you know, after me got some. Got me some hot. I got wingstop over.
