Lauren LaRosa
Hey y', all, it's Lauren LaRosa. And this is another episode of the Latest with Lauren LaRosa. This is your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment news and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. So today I have part two of a conversation that I'm sure is going to shake the room up a bit because we're talking to Deb Anthony, mother, manager, businesswoman. We know her for Deb's House, but also responsible for the careers of Nicki Minaj, French Montana, Gucci Mane, and more. Let's get back into the conversation as she explains her relationship with all three of them. I know that one of the people that a lot of people point to when they talk about how you go up the back for your artist is your relationship with Nicki Minaj. And I reached out to you during the time where there were reports that you guys had, like, split and, like, management. At first, I didn't even know you guys were still working together. I thought you had kind of like, took a step back and were just focusing on Deb's house and what you had happening. But there were reports that you guys had split because of her political views.
Deb Anthony
Oh, that was you.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. I reached out to you then because before I tried to be as like, here's what's being said and here as close to the sources I can get, people will say, or you will say back to me. Because again, when I saw those reports, my first thought was, I didn't know Deb was still actively managing. Anyway. I thought she was more focused on the television and the Deb's house and different things. So I was confused. So I reached out and said, hey, here's what's being reported. Here's what I will have to report because it's the only thing I have. Is this true? Is there any context to this about what's happening that I could get.
Deb Anthony
Wait a minute. Was you. You wasn't quoting on behalf of. I said people name but the Jasmine brand.
Lauren LaRosa
No, no, no, I wasn't.
Deb Anthony
They kept calling to being messy.
Lauren LaRosa
They were one of the people that posted the story, though. I saw their story.
Deb Anthony
Yeah, okay. Because they kept calling me to being. Being messy. Like one is, I'm not getting into the political thing because I can't tell anybody their political views, who to and who not to like. What is democracy like? I do know what democracy is. You understand? Period. All right, I gotta keep asking people, what's up there? Go mega. Because they keep saying this mega thing or whatever it is and. And I don't even know. And my stuff, it came. I'm gonna just go here with it. Why somebody would say that because of political views when they all call me. Because again, growing up in hip hop, I said if I had to. Just note what I said. If I had to vote for somebody, I would have voted for him. Right. I didn't vote for him. So right away, I became a Trump or a maga. I became that I ain't arguing with that. Because one thing I was always taught, don't argue people about two things. That's religion and politics. Okay. So I stay away from that.
Lauren LaRosa
But that was in 2021, right? When you said that.
Deb Anthony
I forgot when that was.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, only not to cut you off. But it's because when you say things like that, knowing what the world is seeing happening with Donald Trump, it's hard for people not to associate you with maga because that's kind of what happened with Nicki Minaj as well, too.
Deb Anthony
Yeah. But you. You want to know something? You want to know something? We all do a lot of things. You understand? If you sat here and spent your life trying to appease people, I pray for you. I am not going to spend my life trying to please people if that's what I chose to do. But let me explain something to you. I've been invited to the White House a bunch of times. Not by him, but other things that was going on. I never got to go because it always was something that was in the way. But I don't know who. Who out there, if was ever invited, would not show up. Ain't got nothing to do with him. It's just the idea of saying, you know how I felt meeting. Being honored by Jesse Jackson multiple times. You know how I felt meeting Maya Angelo? You know how I felt sitting down with Dexter King, Martin Luther King's son, talking to me and pouring things into me when I was down? You know, I felt the many people that I have so much respect for, that I said that, that I met, that some people don't even care for today, I'm not going to go against. I don't. I don't particularly care for Puffy, but I would not go against that man. Now, that's a black man still. Even though I don't agree with what he did with a woman, I'm not going to go against him. I'm not gonna. I don't believe in knocking somebody down when they're already down. Lots of people called, they want to talk about that. Knowing about stuff he did now, you won't tell me what he did. You ain't tell me this stuff before, why tell me now? R. Kelly, y' all been knowing this stuff about him forever. Black people just need to get up off of it. Make your mind up and choose your side on which side you want to be on, period.
Lauren LaRosa
It was how I feel it was on. You were talking to Big Fats. I think you were on Big Fats when that. That for that interview and which one when you were. Well, they were talking to you about the whole Donald Trump thing, because it was around that time in 2021, and you had mentioned that what you like about Donald Trump is the fact that you can't control him. Do you still feel that way now?
Deb Anthony
I like anybody that can't be controlled and have their own mind, good, bad, or indifferent. You understand? I don't make it my business to follow anything that the man is doing. There's a lot of stuff going on. What are we going to do about it? Sweetheart, we ain't doing nothing about our own culture. We ain't stopped doing the stuff that we doing. We ain't stopped enslaving ourselves. So how somebody gonna keep talking about a white person and what they doing if we keep going against each other and keep doing the things we do to each other? You ain't trying to lift me. You ain't trying to educate me. You ain't trying to help me. You just want to knock me down and bam, you out today. Somebody love you in the morning. They hate you. Nicki Minaj was the biggest person in the world that everybody love. One time, she go up there, she go to do this to them. Ain't even go for no card to try to get a card. I don't know if she did or not, really. Be honest.
Lauren LaRosa
I got a statement from the White House. They said that the gold car, but
Deb Anthony
the gold card wasn't real. I knew that it was real anyway, but she became so quick that people want to throw her under a bus. They do this to everybody. They can love you so much and hate you tomorrow. Look how everybody fought to get into a party. Now. Everybody's enemy, and people want to turn their back, but everybody want to be into what's happening. Everybody want to be in your corner when it's popping for you. But if one thing happened, if tomorrow, one person, Lauren, put something up about you that they can say to people, regardless of what you come back and say, but it spreads out all over this. Lauren's that person. Do you understand what I'm saying?
Lauren LaRosa
I get you. But with the Nicki Minaj thing, I think, again, it's like people are really struggling and going through it because of some decisions that Donald Trump and his administration are making. And then she's like, you know, with our artists, we look at you, at them like you're ours. Like, we want you to understand.
Deb Anthony
No, you look at them like they're inhuman, that people are inhuman, that you don't have problems. You look at people like you don't have anything. And if you're going through a bunch of stuff and there's nobody helping you or, or whatever it is, and if you. And I'm not talking about that situation because I, you know, I'm not totally. I'm not in that. Okay, who helped me?
Lauren LaRosa
Let's.
Deb Anthony
Let's go here. LaRosa. Damn Nicki Minaj. Damn Gucci, man. Damn all the rest of them. Okay, I bought you Nicki Minaj. I bought you Gucci, man. I bought you Prince myself. I put New York back on. I did. I came in, found people from New York because my city was falling. And I brought them to Georgia and popped the place back up and they flipped on me. Who helped me? Who? Whoever came to my side and said, wow, she did this, she did that. These artists, don't they. Apparently they can have amnesia. They all can. Everybody can have amnesia. Who did anything? Who ever spoke up in my behalf? Who? And I gave tons of people opportunities. I opened the door when every door was closed on you. I believed in you. Who believed in me? No one. They just stomped all over me, spread rumors on me. I don't stole from everybody with they biggest life, but I didn't did all the dirt to everybody I know after a while, it's my fault. It's my fault. Because guess what? A lie becomes the truth when you do nothing to defend it. So that's all everybody has to go on. Because guess what, Deb ain't saying nothing. But I never felt like I had to get out here and explain anything to anybody. Who are you that I gotta explain myself every day to you? But if you're arguing that I have to constantly go on the Internet, I'm not with that thing. I hate that stuff. I hate that gossiping. I hate it. You don't understand what it do to me that I watch it destroy so many people. Yeah, my child ain't here today. It's going blind. I can't help you. At that time, they was going in on me. I did so much dirt.

hey, everyone, it's Cal Penn, host of Earsay, the Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast I'm sitting down with Lily Chu, the author of the Audible original romantic comedy Just Kiss Already. It's a story about a forensic anthropologist who secretly writes mystery novels, an actress who adapts his book into a film, and what happens when a meme and a media tour collide with a slow burn romance. It's performed by Simu Liu and Philippa Hsu, and it is an absolute blast.
Lowe's Advertiser
When you actually hear the performance, you realize that other people are taking your words and what you thought was kind of a straightforward sentence like, the cat in the corner is black. In my head, it's the cat in the corner is black. Not the dog, not the gerbil. But someone else might say it, the cat in the corner is black. That's always fascinating to me how they just bring in all these different nuances and really make it fun and interesting and distinctive.

I'm sorry, No, I was gonna let you go. I was just gonna say, you know, right now, not for the sake of explaining anything to anybody, but because you are taking opportunity to speak and it is rare when we do get these, like, sit downs with you. Who is it that you want most to speak up in the midst of all of this, that you think if they were to stand by your side and say things to clear things up according to what you're telling me about the Gucci maneuver, you know, about Nicki Minaj and y' all relationship or wherever that is, who would you want to stand up and what, what do they say?

Interviewer/Moderator (possibly Darren)
I'm gonna step in right here. I don't, I don't usually do this, but I don't, I don't know if that's necessarily where we want to go with this right now. Right. We're not trying to pull anybody else in. I think anything relative to the artist that she's represented and what she feels.
Deb Anthony
You know what, Darren? That's why I didn't want to do this, because I knew that this would kick up so much stuff in me, period, that's going on that I have never had my just do. I have never spoken on any of this stuff. This right here with Brett was piercing to me. I know that something might look like it is that it's not okay. I promise. I ain't taking nothing from her. I'm not taking nothing from none of these artists. Given them all opportunities. Not Brad. Brad had her own opportunity and she was who she was. But Brett didn't do reality TV either. She didn't really like was just something that I wanted her to get into because we were so cool. Let's do that. I could do this with you. I'm always trying to pitch something with women. I'm always trying to do something with a woman. Okay, I made a bad decision again. I did it again and it is what it is. But I'm tired of find something else to say about me. I bought so much good stuff into this industry. I've done so much in this music and film industry, period. A lot that I have done

You can only say that yes, Devin Boss is out there. I want everybody to know I'm telling my life story. I'm telling where I come from because nobody knows a lot of stuff. They don't know what I'm really doing in my life. I don't discuss that stuff. Most of these people keep cameras around them. They made up. That's why they all bugged out now, just about a lot of them. Because now you can't keep up with nothing when that stuff is not going on when it still ain't happening for you.

hey everyone, it's Cal Penn, host of Irsay, The Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast, I'm sitting down with Divergent author Veronica Roth to talk about her sprawling new novel, Seek the Traitor's Son. It's a sci fi fantasy epic about two protagonists on opposite sides of a war and a prophecy neither of them wanted.
Veronica Roth
My first book was Divergent, and when that came out, like, because it was so popular, I think it attracted, like, mostly positivity, but the negativity I sucked in like a sponge. And I think it was, like, critiques of things I liked. When I was like, you know, I was 23 and I wrote this book and it had all my, like, dorky little cheesy or maybe unrealistic loves in it. And I started to feel a lot of shame about those things. And so for the rest of my career, I steered away from those little things that, like, make you feel pleasure when you read. But I also was, like, saying no to these parts of myself that I then was like, screw it.
T-Mobile Advertiser
Yeah.
Deb Anthony
So that's this book.
Kal Penn
Listen to Earsay the Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club on the iHeartradio app or wherever you get your podcasts
Lauren LaRosa
as well, too. Correct.
Deb Anthony
It's already out.
Lauren LaRosa
Oh, it's out. So how many. How many episodes do we have out of Debbie's Boss? Or is it.
Deb Anthony
No, it's not even the episode that wasn't. Here's what. We go with another thing. Death is. I mean, Dad's. Devin's boss was Bevin's boss. And that was during the same time that this stuff was going on. Okay, that they wanted this. They wanted. They wanted my story. And at that time, this was WE tv. It was supposed to been a series. They needed a series. Okay? They wanted that. And that's what we all talked about at first, doing it. But then all that stuff happened at WE TV again, and the people weren't there no more, and people were moving. People lost jobs. And it was a whole bunch of little stuff that came in that went off the table. It was smashed. My show was smashed. When Brett Dismal came in, we went in for the movie. We turned that. This. The. The series into a movie. So now I was doing the movie and DevTools. That's why I'm so confused because both shows was being done at the same time simultaneously. Two at one time when everybody was being dropped. I had continuous stuff going on.
Lauren LaRosa
So I know in Deb's. In Deb is boss, right? It's. You have the music angle of It. And you talk a lot about like people kicking you and getting your flowers and stuff like that. Do you think that this is the project or this is the time where people will finally start opening their ears to listening to things outside of what is the normal narrative that we hear when people talk about Deb? And because it's not all bad all the time. I don't always hear or bad about you.
Deb Anthony
No, I don't. I, it's, it's just these parts that it, it gets me. I don't like to be called the thief. I, I don't like that. And especially the people that I love. You. You understand what I'm saying?
Target Advertiser
Yep.
Deb Anthony
I don't like that. Like, those are things that is personal for me.
Lauren LaRosa
I get it. I do. I just, I mean, I don't know. I just, I, I hear you. And then talking to you now, like this is our first time actually having a real conversation. I watched. I don't know if it was you or your brother on Matt Fafa and it was like a real in depth interview. It might have been both of you.
Deb Anthony
And he was on there too.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Deb Anthony
But I.
Lauren LaRosa
So I watched both interviews and I remember watching it and just being like, you know, as I'm learning and growing within this industry, like, these are the stories, these are the things. This is like the resilience that you want to hear about because it is tough, but I can't imagine how it. Because there was a lot of things that I have, like social media and different platforms that you did not have. And I know that Debbis Balls goes into that as well. It really talks about you just surviving queens and building yourself up. And I hear you say right now that you're hurt by a lot of the narrative that is happening right now. And I'm sure it's because you made it through so much to get to this point and you're still having to fight.
Deb Anthony
And that's the part that just, it just gets to me, you know, And I think, like, I know that one of the biggest things that I go through is, you know, this industry, unfortunately, if a man is not sitting there with you as a woman, it don't really work that well for you. Okay. And as simple as that. And even in artists with females, when the man goes, you going. And that's how it's been for women, you know, like they weren't able to hold onto their own. And that's because men was able to stomp down on you, you know that that's the things that they're supposed to do. You know, it's like, I'm happy. Deb is boss. We're going up, hopefully. So we're sinking an Emmy nominations for Debbie's boss. Lil Mama played me. I went through a lot of stuff with that. Why'd you choose her? Why she not? Why not?
Lauren LaRosa
Mama's dope.
Deb Anthony
I do, too. And she has my attitude.
Lauren LaRosa
I love her. She has New York spirit.
Deb Anthony
Yeah, she's short. She might be short, but she's still. It's television. You understand what I'm saying? There's some illusions, but she did an excellent job. Lisa Ray. My mother's so happy because my mama was upset because my mama didn't want this done. My mama didn't want her life on or to make her look like she was a bad mother. She loved Lisa Ray. You understand what I'm saying? Everybody that was on that show was phenomenal. Everybody did a remarkable job. Remarkable. The production company. Remarkable. Everybody. It was such enjoyment for these people when I was really scared because I didn't. I didn't want this to be done. I really didn't want to be done. But I said, you know what? I better tell my story before everybody else keep telling them, because they keep telling me stories. These stories they write. You're not going to rewrite my history. I'm not going to let people do that no more. That's not happening anymore. I want to pick and choose because back in the days when I was doing this, we had our people that we could go to to put our stuff out. Not live for us, but real journalists. You're real. You're not. They pretend. That's why I'm sitting here with you. There's an oath that you took still in doing this, in realism and doing your homework and checking stuff. You understand? So. Which I'm very happy that you did, because I really never knew when people said that. Now I know that in 2013, he did file a lawsuit on me. I didn't know it. People talked about stuff, but I didn't know it. You understand what I'm saying? Nothing ever came to me. So you just enlightened me right now. Now, I just learned that there ain't no dag on settlements. I'm telling you, the ambulance ain't no. It ain't no settlements. It's nothing. People owe me, okay? They owe me a lot. I gave some big opportunities, sweetheart. And it's very easy for people to get bragged on today and doing the work that I did yesterday because they would have never been able to walk that walk that I walked. Okay? They ain't have that in them. I was a real trooper. I really was. Deborah. Really was, huh? If they know about that Deborah in the Bible, I really was her. I had to fight this tooth and nail for each and every one of them whether they give me any type of. I'm gonna talk about flowers. I don't need no flowers. You don't just don't diminish my name. If you don't want to talk about. You gotta talk about me. Don't diminish me. Don't. Don't do that. Don't make up a lie on me. You ain't gotta never mention me. I never use anybody. Just like even Death's House. I never used Brett. I never said her name in nothing. I never. I never did any of that. So I. I did something of something that I wanted to do, and it went good. I did a reality show. I did real reality. Something that they said couldn't happen, that wouldn't happen in real time. What you've seen is what you got. And I know it touched a lot of people because there's tons of people that stopped me that loved it, that I didn't have that drama going on. I wasn't gonna have that drama going on. I dealt with a lot of women that were hurt. I wanted women to see themselves on that screen. I needed you to see you. I didn't need to see you because you had a fat behind and a short, you know, a little waistline and all those little things. I didn't even see you because you had the story of a stripper or any of this kind of stuff. And I'm not downplaying people. I'm just saying I needed you to see you. There's a lot of people that would take advantage of the opportunity, but unfortunately, I still haven't felt them because they come in and they already think they superstars. They've been tainted. These shows have tainted so many kids out here that think that this is so easy, to just walk in and this is who I am. You can't even handle a stage. You don't know how to work a stage. You don't know how to do an interview. You don't know all these things. You don't know how to do. That's what that show was about. Not pt, not running, not going through the other little things that we talked about and then rapping and going. I wanted them to learn who you was and put away some of your Pain and don't hide yourself. That's one of the things that people do. Every time somebody get on tv, they're all made up. I never did that when I was in my kitchens, when I was in anything. Don't make me up. I'm gonna come in with slippers. I'm gonna be ready to see. You ain't always gonna see me like that. You're gonna see a real person. I'm a real person. I do real things. I go through real stuff. I get sick. I duck bill collectors. I do everything that everybody else do. At the end of the day, what I want them to know is that we're both going to lay on that piece of metal and go through this the same exact way. I'm gonna be your neighbor next door in the hospital. It's going to be the same. I'm not inhuman. Don't make me who you want me to be. It's not fair. Even you saying a celebrity is not fair. I'm Deborah Antony, and that's what I want people to know. I'm not inhuman, not perfect, but I'm not inhuman. And I'm definitely not a thief.

Hosts: Lauren LaRosa (guest host), DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha God
Guest: Deb Antney
In this direct and emotional episode, industry powerhouse Deb Antney sits down with Lauren LaRosa to unpack her storied career as a manager to stars like Nicki Minaj, French Montana, and Gucci Mane. Deb aims to clarify rumors regarding her personal and professional relationships, especially with Nicki Minaj and Gucci Mane, confronts narratives about her reputation, addresses controversies surrounding her political views, and speaks candidly about her journey as a Black woman in the entertainment industry. With her signature no-nonsense delivery, Deb shares the challenges she’s faced in a male-dominated business, the personal cost of being misunderstood, and why telling her story on her terms—through her new project, Deb is Boss—matters.
This episode is a raw, often emotional clarion call from Deb Antney—a plea to be acknowledged as a multidimensional person, not just a footnote in others’ stories. She addresses deep wounds about loyalty and public perception, offers insider truths on industry politics, and positions her forthcoming show, Deb is Boss, as her definitive, unfiltered narrative. For listeners, the conversation is both an education on hip-hop’s behind-the-scenes realities and a testament to the resilience required to survive, and be true to oneself, in a brutal industry.
