The Breakfast Club who's donkey of the day today? Well, Ed Sheeran Donkey of the day for Friday, January 10th goes to the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. I don't know how I missed this one, but man, it's good. See, we live in a society where there is a lot of fake caring that goes on in the world. People wake up every day waiting for the algorithm to tell them what to care about. And when someone dies, especially when someone dies, it brings the fake Karen out of everybody. Okay, folks, start digging up pictures they have with the person who passed. Doesn't matter if the picture was taken 20 years ago and that picture was the one only time they met this individual. They will post that picture with some fake deep caption acting like they were so close and acting like they cared about the person so much. Bah humbug. Okay, you don't really care. You just see the person trending and want to be a part of this part of the trending topic part of the story. But when it comes to Governor Greg Abbott, this is a case of when fake Karen goes wrong. Okay, we all know President Jimmy Carter has passed away, right? He was the reason the post office was closed yesterday. I learned that the hard way. 4:20pm I pulled up to the post office, tugging on the post office door, wondering why it was locked.
DJ Envy
Me too.
Charlamagne tha God
You did that?
DJ Envy
Yeah, I had to go to a FedEx.
Charlamagne tha God
Well, we learned the hard way. And then I read the sign on the door. We are closing observance of Jimmy Carter's funeral. Okay, but Jimmy is dead. He's passed away. And Governor Greg Abbott fake cared about it. He. He fake cared about it so much that in a now deleted post on X, he paid tribute to President Carter and said he and his wife send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family. That's what you should do, right? Well, it's one problem with that. Let's go to ABC News 10 to see what the problem is.
News Anchor
And tonight we're looking into an embarrassing mistake following the death of former President Jimmy Carter. A story you may have heard claims Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent condolences to Carter's wife, Rosalynn, who died in 2023. And this one, folks, is true. In a since deleted post on X, Abbott paid tribute to Carter and said he and his wife quote, send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family. Rosalynn Carter died in November 2023 at the age of 96. Jimmy Carter passed away last Sunday at the age of 100, making him the longest living president in American history.
Charlamagne tha God
I think it's safe to say when it comes to President Carter, Greg Abbott don't give a damn. He don't give a f. Okay. Governor Greg Abbott said him and his wife want to send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter. As you just heard, Rosalind's been dead since 2023. Okay. This is what happens when you fake hair. Okay? Now, granted, Roslyn was, you know, 96. So when you 96, you know, when you. At that age. Yeah. When you die, people be like, damn, I thought they been dead. Okay? And I understand why he deleted the tweet because it is embarrassing. This is like in the 1900s when you were making a yo mama joke and the person tells you that their mother is dead. You know, this is embarrassing. Like, you know, asking a woman, when did she do. She's not even pregnant. She's not even pregnant.
DJ Envy
I did that one time. Never again.
Charlamagne tha God
Or when you see a fat person losing weight. This is recent. You know, you see a fat person losing weight and you be like, oic. You know, I did that.
Not So Big Mac
You did that.
Charlamagne tha God
I did that this morning.
Not So Big Mac
Yeah, you do that.
Charlamagne tha God
Oh, play the music.
DJ Envy
You ain't going to play his music.
Charlamagne tha God
Speaking of dieting, devil always play his music. Not so Big Mac is in the room.
Not So Big Mac
Not so Big Mac is the. Not even that big no more.
Carlos Miller
Him.
Not So Big Mac
Because he's the king. He's the one that said it to me. He said, hey, man, that is OIC hit. And I said, I'm not on O symptom. Somebody at the store asked me, you know, what was my surgeon's name? And I said, I didn't get the surgery.
Charlamagne tha God
He said that to you?
Not So Big Mac
Yes, literally. It happens all the time. That's like how you keep asking Envy about his new nose.
Charlamagne tha God
No, that really happened, though. He had the surgery.
DJ Envy
I did not have no surgery.
Charlamagne tha God
You didn't have surgery on your nose?
Not So Big Mac
That was the hard nose.
DJ Envy
No, they cleaned out the polyps.
Charlamagne tha God
You had surgery.
DJ Envy
I did not have no surgery on my nose.
Charlamagne tha God
Anyway, Happy New Year, Mac. What do you.
Not So Big Mac
Happy New Year.
Charlamagne tha God
We're not talking about food. So what's up?
Not So Big Mac
I get that he deserves. He deserves donkey. Okay, but you gotta give him a pass.
Charlamagne tha God
Why?
Not So Big Mac
Cause he's 67.
Charlamagne tha God
That's not old.
Not So Big Mac
Yes, but he's at that age now where your mind just be gone sometimes. We all have parents around that age where they done called us every name under the sun other than our own name.
Charlamagne tha God
You know what? He got a point. I'm at the tender age of 46, and, you know, I got four kids. The three youngest ones, I'm always calling them the wrong.
DJ Envy
I confused the hell out of mine, too. Brooklyn, London, whatever your name is, come over here. You know what I'm talking?
Not So Big Mac
Literally Charlemagne. The other day when he was trying to call me, he was like, Bruce, Bruce, Ms. Pat, come in here. I said, big Mac.
DJ Envy
He called you Ms. Pat.
Charlamagne tha God
Excuse me, Ms. Pat.
Not So Big Mac
Ms. Pat.
Charlamagne tha God
Wait, I was. Never mind.
Not So Big Mac
Bruce, Bruce, Ms. Pat called me all the names. He said, Ruben, everybody. I said, Damn, Ms. Matt Rub. Ruben's smaller than you now. How you gonna still be Ruben?
Angela Yee
Study.
Charlamagne tha God
I do agree, though, that when people are at a certain age, just to be safe, you should just assume they're dead.
Not So Big Mac
Everybody's dead.
Angela Yee
What?
Charlamagne tha God
Yeah. Like, you know, Jimmy died at 100. So common sense would say to me, well, as his wife, because I doubt she lived to be 100. And you would be correct. But that's what Google is for. But when you're the governor of the state of Texas, you should know these things, especially in regards to a former.
Not So Big Mac
President who's outliving you. You at 100.
Charlamagne tha God
That's right.
Not So Big Mac
That's like that scene from Life when he was reading the letter and the whole family had died. Ms. Ty.
Carlos Miller
Well, she thought you ought to know that. That your second cousin Bo died.
Not So Big Mac
Bo, dad.
Carlos Miller
And your other cousin, Sally, on your daddy's side, she died. Oh. Apparently, your sister died too. Jenny. I'LL say Marlene here. Marlene died. Oh, no, no, no. Marlene. Jenny died, too. Jenny and Marlene both dead?
Charlamagne tha God
Yeah. I mean, you know, to the point Jimmy's President Carter was 100 years old, so you probably should have just said condolences to your kids and grandkids and.
Not So Big Mac
Great grandkids just to be safe, to everybody.
Charlamagne tha God
Just to be safe.
Not So Big Mac
Condolences to the family.
Charlamagne tha God
Like, that's it. Condolences to your family?
Angela Yee
Yeah, that's right.
Charlamagne tha God
Cause didn't Cicely Tyson live to be like 104, though?
Not So Big Mac
No, I mean 104 black kids, though. Yeah, yeah, she was past 100. Don't be trying to act like people don't live like that. It ain't. It ain't a group of people that. You know what I mean?
Charlamagne tha God
No, it's not a group of people.
Not So Big Mac
Yeah, your group text is mad.
Carlos Miller
Quiet.
Charlamagne tha God
Please. Give Governor Greg. Governor Greg Abbott the sweet sounds of the Hamiltones.
Not So Big Mac
You are the donkey of the day. You are the donkey of the day.
Charlamagne tha God
But, you know, Cicely was 96 and she was active. No. Very. You know what I'm saying? So you always saw her when you don't see. Like, I. I don't. We ain't.
News Anchor
I don't.
Charlamagne tha God
Ain't never see Rosalyn Carter just out and about. Oh, no. You know what I mean? No, but we also wasn't looking for her either. Wasn't looking for.
Not So Big Mac
Jesus Christ.
Charlamagne tha God
He definitely wasn't looking for her. And neither is Greg Abbott. Okay, Abbott, Donkey of the Day is brought to you by the law office of Michael S. Lamensoft. Don't be a donkey. Dial £250 on your cell and say the bull. If you've been hurt in a construction accident, that's £250 from your cell and say the bull. Wake that ass up early in the morning. The Breakfast Club.

Release Date: January 10, 2025
Host/Author: iHeartPodcasts
Title: The Breakfast Club
Description: The World's Most Dangerous Morning Show, The Breakfast Club, With DJ Envy And Charlamagne Tha God!
In this episode of The Breakfast Club, host Charlamagne Tha God, along with co-hosts DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Carlos Miller, and guest Not So Big Mac, delve into a recent political blunder involving Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The discussion centers around Governor Abbott's misguided act of sending condolences to Rosalynn Carter, the wife of former President Jimmy Carter, who had already passed away the previous year.
Charlamagne Tha God opens the segment by introducing Governor Greg Abbott as the "Donkey of the Day," humorously highlighting the governor's recent faux pas. Charlamagne criticizes Abbott's gesture as an example of "fake caring" prevalent in today's society, where public figures may engage in insincere acts to stay relevant or trendy.
Charlamagne Tha God [03:01]: "Donkey of the day for Friday, January 10th goes to the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott."
The main issue revolves around a now-deleted post by Governor Abbott on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he purportedly sent condolences to Rosalynn Carter upon the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. However, Rosalynn had already passed away in November 2023, making Abbott's message both untimely and factually incorrect.
Charlamagne Tha God [04:06]: "Governor Greg Abbott fake cared about it so much that in a now deleted post on X, he paid tribute to President Carter and said he and his wife send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family."
The Breakfast Club references a report from ABC News 10, which confirms the error in Governor Abbott's condolences, emphasizing that Rosalynn Carter had died the previous year. Charlamagne uses this incident to illustrate the disconnect between public gestures and genuine empathy.
News Anchor [04:36]: "In a since deleted post on X, Abbott paid tribute to Carter and said he and his wife quote, send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family."
Charlamagne expresses his disdain for Abbott's mistake, suggesting that such errors reflect poorly on the governor's attentiveness and respect for public figures.
Charlamagne Tha God [05:15]: "I think it's safe to say when it comes to President Carter, Greg Abbott don't give a damn. He don't give a f."
The co-hosts engage in lighthearted banter, poking fun at each other's personal anecdotes while maintaining the focus on the main topic. This interplay adds a layer of humor and relatability to the discussion.
DJ Envy [06:04]: "I did that one time. Never again."
Not So Big Mac [07:10]: "Cause he's 67."
The conversation highlights the challenges of maintaining genuine connections and the ease with which public figures can make mistakes in the age of social media.
Charlamagne critiques Abbott's mistake as a failure to verify information, especially critical for someone in a prominent political position. He underscores the importance of authenticity and the pitfalls of performing empathy for mere trend participation.
Charlamagne Tha God [08:02]: "Yeah. Like, you know, Jimmy died at 100. So common sense would say to me, well, as his wife, because I doubt she lived to be 100. And you would be correct."
The hosts collectively emphasize that sincere expressions of condolences should be based on accurate information to avoid public relations blunders.
The episode wraps up with Charlamagne reiterating the importance of genuine empathy and attentiveness, especially for public figures. The discussion serves as a cautionary tale about the repercussions of insincere public gestures and the necessity of fact-checking before making public statements.
Charlamagne Tha God [08:58]: "Cause didn't Cicely Tyson live to be like 104, though?"
