Summer's got a different tempo. Everything's a little looser, brighter. One plant turns into another. You hear something, you stay a little longer. Next thing you know, you're somewhere you didn't plan to be. It's those in between moments. That's where the ideas hit. Conversations stretch out. Little memories sneak up on you. Sometimes it's just about what's in your hand. That color, that chill. The new tropical butterfly refresher from Starbucks. Guava and passion fruit flavors with mango pineapple flavored pearls. Yeah, that feels like summer before you even taste it. Funny how one small stop becomes the best, best part of the day. Start your summer rhythm with Starbucks. Lauren LaRosa
Hey, y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. And this is another episode of the Latest with Lauren LaRosa. This is your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment news, and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. Now let me tell y' all something. Checking in behind the scenes of the grind. It is literally, it's early. It's h e double hockey sticks right now. I am in LA. I got here late last night for the BET Awards weekend. We are about, what, two days now? Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Care for the Culture Spokesperson
Yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
Sunday is the BET Awards Sunday, June 28, 2026. And I am really excited because if I have not said it on this podcast, and I don't know if I did, I'm going to be doing the pre show on the red carpet live for bet. I'll be talking about all things fashion on the carpet. I'll be joined on the carpet by Brian McIntosh, who you guys see often on a lot of bets platforms. Bow wow, Jason Lee. I'm probably forgetting some people, but we are going to dominate that red carpet. You know how the award shows have those, like, red carpets right before, like, the official red carpets.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
I'm on the carpet, y', all, for bet.
Lauren LaRosa
I am so excited. Wow. This has been such a journey for me. I've been working. I've been working with BET since 2017. Not working with them like an employee, but being able to go to the BET Awards and do various things on the carpet. Oh, you can hear that's. That's in the background. How I turn them down.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
Hold on.
Lauren LaRosa
I think I just turned them down. I'm actually in the studio in LA shooting the actual Breakfast Club show right now. So that is what you guys just heard. But yeah. So in 2017, I did my first BET Awards red carpet shout out to EUR Web and Lee Bailey. EURWeb.com is a outlet owned by radio maven Lee Bailey. And I was working for them when I first moved to LA and just trying to get my feet wet with being on carpets and talking to celebrities and just being in front of the camera. And they gave me such a platform to do so. I was on carpets. I was at movie premieres. I got a lot of my, my. I put a lot of my reps
Brown Girl Grinding Host
in with Eur Web and you guys
Lauren LaRosa
can go and find all of these videos on my YouTube channel, YouTube.com backslash Lauren LaRosa TV L O R E N L O R O S A T V Because I've been documenting this journey literally since like 2016, 2017. So it has been a beautiful journey. It has been a journey worth talking about and it's been an interest journey, but it has been a journey. Like, I'm not gonna lie, there's days where I remember literally breaking down and crying because I'm like, yo, I'm putting in so much work and nothing's working out. Like, I'm tired, I'm broke. Like, LA was such a. It was such a time for me. Like I went through a roller coaster of things. I mean, moving across the country trying to figure it out. That's what happens. But I'm back this year on the BET Awards carpet. I was there last year as well too. But this year I'm officially a part of the pre show squad. So I say all that to say but God favor ain't fair. And even when things don't feel like they're going to work out, keep working because they do. So that is how I'm feeling right now, behind the scenes of the grind. So I'll be doing a lot of things in preparation for that awards show this weekend and fittings and all of the things. And then we have an event today at the Beverly Center. Today, Friday, June 26, 2026, from 3 to 6pm Come out and shop with me, my lowriders. If you're listening to this episode and you caught it in time enough, come out and shop and come up to and tell me you're a low rider so I can give you a hug and thank y' all for tuning in every episode. Let's get on into the latest.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
Okay, so quick, behind the scenes moment about my business. Because people always ask me, like, how
Lauren LaRosa
do I actually run everything?
Brown Girl Grinding Host
So Shopify is literally the platform where
Lauren LaRosa
I turned this tiny idea into a business.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
Before this, I was really just like popping up at any in person event, any vending opportunity I could, which I still do. But I wasn't really as focused on online. I was like, you know, the websites are going to be too much to build out. I'm not like a super techy person, even though I can make things cute. And I didn't want to put up a website that would run my customers away. I wanted it to be efficient, to be easy. And Shopify helped me build brown girlgrinding.com out. Once I switched to Shopify, it finally clicked like, okay, I can actually do this. It's not about it being tough, it's about using the right platform to make it easy. Shopify takes all of the guesswork out. I build my own store, I manage my community, own my own customer relationships. Plus this is my favorite thing. Shopify gets my products everywhere. I'm able to link stuff through Google, YouTube, TikTok, Shop, the Shop app, even ChatGPT and Instagram, which is very important for me. And Shopify's AI co founder Sidekick game changer, let me tell y' all right, so it's helped me not only optimize my site, it helps me look at my sales trends, it updates my product skills. All the stuff I'm absolutely not an expert in. But it's like having a genius business

partner that never sleeps.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
And right now the Brown girl Grinding storefront and the Black Effect storefront is busy and Shopify is handling all of the heavy lifting. I love that for us. I am pumped, like so pumped that Shopify is going to show up at the Black Effect Podcast Festival this year in a big way. Alon Cohen
With kick to the head, it makes contact with the outside of my arm, which I brought up. In our world, that's. That's a blocked strike. Yeah, but teaching a computer what exactly that means and when and how, like when my arm is up, that's a block. When my arm is down and hits my shoulder, that's not. It's those nuances that proved incredibly difficult for machines to be able to handle for a very, very long time.

Lauren LaRosa
Because I mentioned to you guys that I am here in LA for the BET Awards, and it was announced yesterday that Teyana Taylor is actually receiving an icon award this year at. At the BET Awards, which is insane. Tiana Taylor was named. She will be named Icon of the Year at this year's BET Awards. You have Drew Ski hosting the show. You have Cardi B. Nas, Baby Keem, Ari Lennox, Kehlani Tim's Dolce, Don Toliver, Queen Latifah, French Montana, Max B. Ti, Jill Scott. So many people performing this year. I'm really looking forward to that part of the show as well. But a. A great part of the BET Awards are always the surrounding events. And I normally don't get to do a lot of the surrounding stuff because normally when I'm here, I'm working so much, but this year I was like, nah, I'm getting outside. So I landed yesterday in la, literally changed and then went right over to the verses. So B2K faced off against Pretty, Pretty, Pretty, Pretty Ricky. And yo, Pretty, Pretty Ricky did that. Like, don't get me wrong, I love B2K, a lot of guys, but Pretty Ricky did that. So we arrived and when I arrived, they literally. So shout out to Courtney Lowry and the Versus team, who took an amazing. Who took amazing care of me. Shout out to them. When I arrived, they came, they got us. They walked the center like, oh, Lizzo just got here as well, too. Lizzo was there. She was on the B2K side of things.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
I don't know if she was there,
Lauren LaRosa
like, on the B2K side, like versus Pretty Ricky, you know what I mean? But she was standing on the B2K side. I don't know if it's just because that was the easiest side to get her to.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
I don't know.
Lauren LaRosa
But Lizzo was there. Love Lizzo. And then you had Pretty Ricky in all of Florida dressed in red, walking out like they fresh out. Literally giving Easter Sunday. You had Trick Daddy. I also saw a little scrappy there with. With the Pretty, Pretty Ricky squad as well. But it went down in there, y'.

Now one of the things that I thought we weren't going to see because I'm like, it's no way that they're able to do all that. It's going to be unfair. The solo songs, Omarion dig it in his solo song bag, y'.

Brown Girl Grinding Host

Lauren LaRosa
I mean, Pleasure P and Omarion, like, led up the banter, you know, as, like, the leaders of their groups. But Pleasure P had the jokes, okay? He was going in on everything from people not knowing B2K songs to B2K and the whole, like, breakup. Let's take a listen to Pleasure P going in on B2King to you all night.

And she was the first one.

You ain't in Florida no more. Hey, strike the all I want to say, saying it's pretty goddamn record, all
Brown Girl Grinding Host
that, but there was also a really
Lauren LaRosa
sweet moment as well, too. Pretty Ricky actually raised their glasses at the end of the verses, or towards the end, Basically the end of the verses and put it up in the air. And this was before they started talking shit again and talked about how, you know, without B2K, they wouldn't be here. And. Well, let's take a listen to that and then I'll. I'll tell you guys the thing of this.
B2K / Pretty Ricky Event Commentator
Listen, listen, listen. I want to toast it up, man, from, you know, we want to toss it up over here, man. K, man, we love y' all so much, man. We love y' all so much, man.
Pretty Ricky Member
We love y'.
B2K / Pretty Ricky Event Commentator
All. If it wasn't for y', all, it don't beat on us. So shouts out to y', all, man, baby, now that the war is over, let's get into a hit. Let's go, let's go.
Lauren LaRosa
So in the moment, after hearing that and watching that, I started to think about it because I'm like, Yo, B2K, rightfully so, was one of the biggest boy bands ever. Like, ever, right? But Pretty Ricky had the joints. And I'm asking, I'm like, I'm in the crowd asking because it's a bunch of like, you know, I saw DJ Head and Gina views from effective immediately. So I'm talking to them and I'm like, yo, why weren't they as big as B2K? Like, you know what I mean? Like, commercially? Like, why didn't their success spin the way B2Ks did? And they were talking about, you know, the era that B2K ushered in by the time Pretty Ricky was coming in boy band and that culture was kind of ending. And I'm like, man, that's so crazy because they going through, like, they didn't even get to they. They went really deep album cuts and we still were rocking. But then it got to some of the songs that we all really know and love, and it just. It went up even crazier. Like, really great time last night. I had an amazingly great time. So shout out to the Versus team. Appreciate y'.

I did want to take some time to show some love to Lionel Richie. Lionel Richie. Yesterday, there was video circulating of Lionel Richie deciding to sit down on the stage after getting dizzy at one of his shows. He kicked off. You know, one of his. He kicked off his tour. Let's take a listen to Lionel Richie.
B2K / Pretty Ricky Event Commentator
Now, what I have learned about my years of being in the business. When you are feeling busy, sit your ass down. And when you are feeling strange about

Care for the Culture Spokesperson
Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won't be able to continue with the show, and additional information will be available. Thank you for your patience. And your understanding, it's just been amazing. Save travels home improvement. Thank you so much.
Lauren LaRosa
Now, after this, he cut the show short. He did not finish, you know, the full show. And there are sources reporting now that are telling TMZ actually that Lionel Richie was taking to the hospital via paramedics who met him backstage. He was taken to the hospital, they say, just out of precautionary measures. And at the time, at the time of this report, there was nothing known about his conditions or condition. But now I think we're getting to see a little bit more. Just a kind of a telltale sign that maybe Lionel Richie just needed to take some rest.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
That performance life is different.
Lauren LaRosa
That's another thing I was thinking about with B2K and Pretty Ricky as well. Like, like, we spin across so many different performance genres when you talk about, like, our talent. Because I was looking at B2K, pretty Ricky, they're both boy bands, right? But I'm looking at B2K who, like, their performance style is very, like, refined. It's very choreographed. It's very five, six, seven, eight.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
Boy being boom.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. You know, but then you have Pretty Riku who was like, they're a little bit more like, it's coordinated. They know how to work the stage together as a group. But it's, it's. It's a little bit more. It's not as choreographed, even though I know movement coaching is a thing.
Brown Girl Grinding Host
But Lionel Richie is kicking off this
Lauren LaRosa
tour and already having to kind of check in on himself a bit because that performance stuff gets, you know, get a little crazy. But the update that I'm mentioning to you guys, the United center announced that Lionel Richie had been advised by doctors to take a break from the stage in order to get some rest and return in full health. This weekend in Chicago, he would have had concerts Friday, Saturday, and they're being postponed and there's no makeup date that has been announced. So United center announced this announcement, they say under advisement by doctors to rest
Brown Girl Grinding Host
and return to full health, Lionel Richie
Lauren LaRosa
has Postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26th in Chicago, Illinois, and Saturday, June 27th in Columbus, Ohio. He and Earth when in Fire will return to the Stage on Tuesday, June 30 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans. We apologize for any convenience this causes. Fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon. So send us some love to Lionel Richie and, you know, praying for a speedy recovery a full recovery. And, you know, I think it's good that we know when it's time for us to take a break, even if right in the moment we got to do it like he did, you know. But this weekend, I ain't taking no break shot. I'm outside. It's like, no, no, no. I'm going to pace myself. I know Sunday is the most important day. I don't want to be burnt out by then. But yeah, I will be on that carpet. So make sure you guys check out the BET YouTube channel at 5:30pm Eastern Standard Time this Sunday, June 28, where I will be hosting the pre show red carpet.
