Lauren LaRosa
Hey, y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. And this is the latest with Lauren LaRosa. This is your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment news, and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. Now, we've been on GO this week, y'. All. We have been in la. We have been all over, but taking you guys back outside again for the latest because lately people have been having a conversation about Clarissa Shields. The female gwoat, one of the greatest fighters of our time right now, announced yesterday on CBS Mornings that she has signed an $8 million fight contract with her former promotional group, Salita Promotions. Because at her last fight, she told us she was out of her contract. She was trying to figure things out. Well, she says that she now has this $8 million contract and she invited a bunch of press here in New York to come and sit down with her, have a conversation about what that deal looks like and what her future in boxing looks like. So I have some exclusive clips for you guys. I'm taking the latest right on into the luncheon. Now let's talk to Clarissa a bit. The deal structure looks like overall. But I do have to ask, you talked about exploring a bunch of different offers. Was MVP on the table? Did they offer you anything?
Clarissa Shields
Yes, Listen, I had, I had talks and negotiations with mvp, with matchroom, who was with Eddie Hearn, mvp, who was with Jake Paul and Nikisa Boderian. I had talks with Eddie Hearn, who's with Matchroom. I had talks with my promoter, Selita, and then I had talks with Salita and Win Promotions together. So it was like I said one, I nobody had a terrible deal, if that makes sense. Like, I think everybody came with it. And MVP definitely came with it. I'm not gonna say that they didn't.
Lauren LaRosa
But what does that mean? What was the number?
Clarissa Shields
It wasn't 8 million.
Lauren LaRosa
How far was it?
Clarissa Shields
How far would you mean?
Lauren LaRosa
How far away from 8 million was it? Were we, are we in the ballpark range? Was it over $5 million?
Clarissa Shields
As a minimum?
Lauren LaRosa
As a minimum or as a total? You could either one of them.
Clarissa Shields
I've mended my relationship with mvp, so I don't want to throw nobody under the bus. I feel like everybody put their best foot forward and Talita and Win came with the best offer.
Lauren LaRosa
And of course I had to ask her. She's talking about four fights. Who are you going to fight? I feel like Layla Ali is out the window. She's already told me. You guys heard last episode when she talked to me at the Ebony Power 100 and said the Layla thing isn't happening. So girl, who are you about to fight? Let's take a listen.
Clarissa Shields
It's so many people that I can think of because I can go up and down up in the weight divisions right now. I think my next fight will be up at heavyweight. I think my next two will be at heavyweight, which is 175. And like I said, I would love to have a fight with Mikayla mayer up at 160, 154. And it's other girls to fight. You know, we got Frenchon crew, Shadesha Green, Shay Keneally, Danielle Perkins. Mm, that's it. Michaela Mara already. Yeah. Like it's some good competition out there, but I've already beat whoever they consider the best. But now these girls are who they consider the best now. So I guess I'll have to fight against them.

Katie Couric
On the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric. I sat down with Bernie Sanders, who is 84 years old, has spent 30, 34 years in Congress and he can still pack a rally with people a quarter of his age.
Bernie Sanders
Denver, 34,000 people come out. Salt Lake City, 20,000 people. You know, huge turnouts. People are really dissatisfied about the status quo.
Katie Couric
His Fighting Oligarchy tour with AOC and other young progressives has become a movement. But is his message too far to the left? Well, he certainly doesn't think so.
Bernie Sanders
Does that sound like a radical idea? Is that too far left for you?
Katie Couric
Okay, okay, wait, wait. I get your point, Bernie. We talk about the billionaire class, the cost of living, and of course, the government shutdown, not to mention the current state of the Democratic Party.
Bernie Sanders
To me, the failure of the Democratic Party has been an unwillingness to recognize the real issues.

Dr. Priyanka Wali
What our health says about us and the way we're living.
Hari Kondabolu
Like our episode where we look at.
Dr. Priyanka Wali
Diabetes in the United states. I mean, 50% of Americans are pre diabetic.
Hari Kondabolu

Dr. Priyanka Wali
Extremely. Or our in depth analysis of how incredible mangoes are.
Hari Kondabolu
Oh, it's hard to explain to rest of the world that like your mangoes are fine because mangoes are incredible. But like, you don't even know.
Dr. Priyanka Wali
You don't know.

Wilmer Valderrama
What do you get? When you mix 1950s Hollywood, a Cuban musician with a dream, and one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time, you get Desi Arnaz, a trailblazer, a businessman, a husband, and maybe most importantly, the first Latino to break primetime wide open. I'm Willmer Valderrama. And yes, I grew up watching him, probably just like you and millions of others. But for me, I saw myself in his story.
Lauren LaRosa
From cleaning canary cages to this night here in New York, it's a long ways.
Wilmer Valderrama
On the podcast, starring Desi Arnaz and Wilmer Valderrama, I'll take you on a journey to Desi's life, the moments it has overlapped with mine. How he redefined American television and what that meant for all of us watching from the sidelines, waiting for a face like ours on screen. This is the story of how one man's spotlight led the path for so many others and how we carry his legacy today. Listen to Starring Desi Arnaz and Wilmer Valderrama as part of the My Cultura Podcast network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Lauren LaRosa
Here we go.
Bernie Sanders
Hey, I'm Cal Penn, and on my new podcast, Here We Go Again, we'll take today's trends and headlines and ask, why does history keep repeating itself? You may know me as the second hottest actor from the Harold and Kumar movies, but I'm also an author, a White House staffer, and, as of like, 15 seconds ago, a podcast host. Along the way, I've made some friends who are experts in science, politics, and pop culture. And each week one of them will be joining me to answer my burning questions, like, are we heading towards another financial crash? Like in 08, is non monogamy back in style? And how come there's never a gate ready for your flight when it lands, like, two minutes early? We've got guests like Pete Buttigieg, Stacey Abrams, Lilly Singh, and Bill Nye. When you start weaponizing outer space, things can potentially go really wrong. Look, the world can seem pretty scary right now because it is. But my goal here is for you to listen and feel a little better about the future. Listen and subscribe to Here We Go Again with Kal Penn on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Now. One of the things that I thought was just like, you know, a big conversation of the luncheon, Clarissa talked a lot about the fact that a lot of people were not trying to give her what she was worth. She went through a lot of deal structures, a lot of conversations, and Papoose was right by her side. She says that if it were not for Papoose and the introduction that he made between her win records and bringing everybody together and helping to figure out the structure of her business deal, she wouldn't have been looking at this $8 million minimum that she's talking about. Let's take a listen to her talk about Papoose and his role in all of this.
Clarissa Shields
Like I said, it wouldn't even have been a conversation between me and Wynn had Pap not been there. You know, since I've met Pap and we've been together over. Over a year now. He introduced me to Wynn Records, and I've been to some of. They sold out freaking concerts, and it's been like a movie. And they were able to come to two of my fights, and it's been a movie. And I think that, you know, Reuben Branson, who is the head of Wynn Records, Papoose is the executive director. So he's like, no, he's the. He's the executive, whatever y' all want to call it. But he's like, he helps make sure that the record company run how it's supposed to run. He's very influential in getting the artist to perform at the. At the concerts. He negotiates the contracts.
Lauren LaRosa
Like, his head big for a reason.
Clarissa Shields
Because he's very smart. But when we seen what we did together, my last fight, because there was so many things that were falling apart at the last minute, you know, and it was like, everything that fell apart, Pap was right there. It was like, I'm just complaining, like, oh, my God, I gotta make this call. I gotta do this, I gotta do that. Because I'm my own. Like, Selita's my promoter, but it's like, I'm also a self promoter, you know what I'm saying? Like, I'm, hey, you ain't worried about me. I'm promoting myself. And I just remember, like, man, I don't even know who to call for this. And I'm sitting there bending the Pap, and he like, I got it. Don't worry about it. And I'm like, what?
Lauren LaRosa
He like, I got it now. It was great to hear from Papoose because as this last, like, year has been happening for them, y' all know, it was a fallout with Remy Ma, who Papoose legally is still married to, but they are no longer together. He is in a relationship with Clarissa Shields. And during that fallout, we found out that they, Clarissa Shields and Papoose were even involved with one another. But there has been various narratives around the relationship. You know, the fact that, you know, financially, what is his role? What does he do? What does he not do? A lot of that came from the back and forth with Remy Ma, where Remy, you know, Made allegations that financially, Papoose is living off of Clarissa Shields. Now, in this press conference, Papoose spoke up about a lot of different things. So he talked about Clarissa Shields being the love of his life and just the impact that this deal and that her career has on fighting. Let's take a listen.
Papoose
Clarissa is the love of my life. So I already knew. Once I bring these two together, it's amazing. And I was able to introduce them to each other. And we just kept working over the years. She became and she found herself in a position where she was a free agent. And it was a no brainer because I already know she's in great hands with my family over here. And I've seen the history that she made with Dimitri. So bringing all these people together, I'm just blessed and happy that I was able to do that. She deserved every dime. And here we are. So once again, congratulations to the queen.
Clarissa Shields
Thank you.
Papoose
I love you.
Lauren LaRosa
I love you.
Clarissa Shields
He's smart. He's smart.
Lauren LaRosa
But then, of course, we got a one on one sit down with Papoose. And he talked to me about a ton of things, including the narrative around his relationship. Let's take a listen to Pat.
Papoose
It disappoints me that, all right, Cat Williams had did a stand up one time and out of nowhere, I never met Cat Williams. And he said when he was doing his stand up, he said, yo, why y' all don't fuck with Pat poops? Like, he ain't never do nothing but G shit. He never did nothing but real shit. And me and him never even met. So I just bring that up to say that what I've done, being in this game for so long, never selling my soul, never backdoor, never doing no sideways. I'm disappointed that some of y' all would actually believe some of that foolishness. Very disappointed. So it doesn't upset me. But for those who know me, cool, the newcomers, the casuals who don't know no better, I get it. But those of y' all who know me, very disappointing that you would even Jack some of that because it makes no sense at all.
Lauren LaRosa
Now, if you guys have not taken anything else from this conversation, baby, Clarissa Shields is rich as hell. So it doesn't matter, in my opinion, who's giving what, who's doing what. She's also, she seems very happy and very content in her relationship as well, you know, as far as we can see. And one of the things I walked away with learning yesterday is you gotta stand up for what you want and who you want. Because if you don't, you walk away with Nothing. I'm Lauren LaRosa. This has been the latest with Lauren LaRosa and I appreciate you guys every single episode. My low riders, I tell you guys every episode. Y' all could be anywhere with anybody else talking about all these things, but y' all choose to be right here with me. If you guys enjoyed these exclusive conversations and want to hear more of them, let me know. I'm Loren LaRosa. Everywhere. L O R E N L O R O S a we're brown girl grinding always. I'll see you guys in my next episode.
Katie Couric
