We start this morning at the White House where President Trump, he hosted a Black History Month reception just weeks after facing bipartisan backlash for posting and later deleting that social media post depicting. Depicting the Obamas as apes. So the celebration, it focused on what he called celebrating black history, culture and history, highlighting the impact of black artists, musicians, athletes, entertainers on American life. He recognized several high profile black supporters and brought members of his administration on stage, including HUD secretary Scott Turner and White House pardon advisor Alice Marie Johnson. Let's listen to some of the president's remarks at his black history celebration.

He's been there from the beginning. Speaking about loyal, how good a football player was Herschel, Herschel Walker. Now he's ambassador to the Bahamas. I don't know. Bahamas.

Yep, he did. So he pointed to politics he says have benefited black communities, including eliminating federal income tax on tips and deploying the National Guard troops to cities he says needed additional support and directing hundreds of millions of dollars toward HBCUs. But at the same time, his administration has been rolling back DEI programs, saying they amount to discrimination and civil rights groups. They also point to his support for stricter voter ID laws, the rollback of federal housing discrimination protections, and new data that shows that black Americans, the unemployment has risen, reversing some of the progress we've seen in recent years. So while the White House celebrated Black History Month with speeches and praise, critics say there is a disconnect there. So honoring black history with words while cutting back policies that they believe directly impact black communities.

Actions indeed speak louder than words and lip service.

Yeah, for sure. And concern is growing this morning over a massive sewage spill that could affect drinking water for millions in the D.C. area. So the environmental crisis is now sparking a political fight between President Trump and Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

[Jess Hilarious]

And.

And it comes as a major, major sewage spill line collapsed, sending about 300 million gallons of wastewater into the Potomac. Experts say it could be one of the largest sewage spills in U.S. history. The Potomac, it supplies drinking water to the DMV area. And officials say that tap water, it remains safe for now because it's being treated before it reaches homes. But when there's that much sewage in the river, treatment plants have to work harder. Cleanup takes longer, so residents are being urged to contact or to to avoid contact with the water. And President Trump, though he is calling it a massive ecological disaster, he's blaming Moore and local Democratic leadership and saying that federal authorities may step in to handle the cleanup. But Moore is pushing back. He argues that the president now wants to come in and, quote, fix it after Maryland has already done the work. Let's listen to what he had to

say, and now the problem is solved. Now the president wants to reach out and not just say that it's been our fault, which we had nothing to

do with this, but also not acknowledging

the fact that this was his responsibility. This was the federal government whose job it was to do this.

And since they didn't do it, I did.

Yeah. So that's why the governor, to your point, envy said he stepped in to do it because the federal government was not doing it. So this dispute comes as Washington, it prepares for its 250th anniversary celebration this summer. You know, those events are expected to draw large crowds along the National Mall, which is right next to the Potomac. And so when asked, the White House was asked whether the river would, quote, still smell like poop during those celebrations. The White House said, the president is very concerned about that, so he wants to step in and get that fixed.

You'd be surprised how often, you know, you ingest fecal matter throughout the day, Right? Because there's like, you know, just little small particles of fecal matter just out in the environment from animals and everything else.

We've been talking about this social media case, especially me and you, Jess. We've been talking about this one for a while. So we start this hour in Los Angeles where Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, he took the witness stand in that major civil case over whether social media harms children. So Zuckerberg, he is defending Instagram against claims that the platform was designed to hook young users and keep them scrolling. So at the center of this case is a 20 year old woman who says that she began using Instagram @9 despite Meta's policy banning children under 13. She claims that she became. It became just a habit that she couldn't quit and it worsened her depression. Now, her legal team, it argues that this is not about social media being popular. They say features on there like the infinite scroll, the push notifications, and the algorithm driven recommendations, they were deliberately there to keep young users engaged as long as possible, comparing the design to a defective product. Now, outside the courtroom, while all of this was going on inside the courtroom, families gathered who have lost children to social media to tell their stories. Let's listen to one woman's story about the loss of her daughter.

Yeah. So while that was going on outside, Zuckerberg inside was telling jurors that children under 13, they've never been allowed on Instagram. But they did admit that, you know, children lie about their age. And the attorneys for the plaintiff, they pushed back, presenting internal documents that suggest that Instagram knew that millions of kids under 13 were on the apps years ago. But Zuckerberg, he pointed to the fact that they have updated their privacy policies, their safety tools, and they are working hard to curb some of that. But the lawsuit, it is just one of 1600 that claim platforms like Instagram were built to be addictive, especially for kids. So depending on how this one go, we'll go. So goes the other 1600 that are following right behind it. YouTube is already a plaintiff. Snapchat and TikTok, they settled before the trial started. And now to another story that's hitting a nerve with a lot of parents. So, five years ago, a Dallas mother, she went public after a video from a middle school sleepover showed her son drinking from a cup that other boys said contained urine. So the family said that it was bullying and it was racially motivated. So the video of this incident, it went viral on Snapchat, triggering protests, calling for accountability. And more than a hundred thousand dollars was raised for a GoFundMe to create that was created for the mother and the son. But now here's the legal twist. So one of the teens accused in that video, he's now 19 years old. He sued the mother and her attorney for defamation and emotional stress. He argued that his life was turned upside down by how the story was shared publicly. Again, it went viral, and a lot of people knew about it. So this week, a jury sided with him and awarded him $3.2 million in damages.

So let's start from the beginning. How did the tour get back together? Well, first of all, how did B2K get to the reason and say, we're gonna come back as a group and say we gonna put on a show for the people? How did y' all start those conversations? I knew y' all was gonna look at me. Come on, bud, let it out. Oh, man, just real quick. I came to Co he had a show out in la. I pulled up on him and, man, it was just. It was dope. I'm like, I want to come support. You know what I mean? And when I got there, he pulled me up on stage. We did a quick little rendition of Girlfriend, but after the show, we. We talked and we. We had dinner and it was like a breaking of the ice. I hadn't seen him since like 2019, so it was like six years or something like that. To make a longer story short, it was a great conversation. You know, we talked about some of the issues that we were having. You know, I'm saying, since the last time we've seen each other and then moving forward, we brought the guys into the fold and we just kind of made a group chat and we start, you know, mending a lot of the. The broken parts. And then we had a great conversation. That almost led to a couple blows and some wrestling matches. I'm sure, I'm sure, I'm sure. Because you're like, you know, I'm gonna shoot it straight with you if we gonna get past this.

That you feel me. But we ain't got to go into detail. But it brings us to the current space where, you know, it was an opportunity for us to go back on the road. And that's where Raz comes in. How Bow got tied in. We was at the BET Awards, and if you know Raz, you know, he's super passionate about, you know, brotherhood, you know what I mean? And obviously, I've had my trials and tribulations and, you know, time and great counseling is definitely brought me to a better space. And you know what, what better person to tour with other than Bow? Wow. Being that. Being that we started our career with Bow, you know, we was in his first Ghetto Girls video. We went on tour with him. So it's just a full circle moment.

I want to stay there for a second because, Omarion, you. I know you're a very spiritual person. Right. And you all about energy. What needed to heal exactly for this to happen.

I think maturity, you know, that plays a big role in everything, you know, being able to see other perspectives and respect. I really feel like, you know, in 2019, things were shifting. You know, it was a great opportunity for us, but I don't know that everybody was on the same page as far as life experiences, wins and losses. You know, you get to a space as an adult, you know, where, you know, else it feel like lessons instead of losses.

And it feels like we all have kind of, you know, risen to that level where, you know, we're all. We're all parents, you know what I'm saying? Like, we have to look at the scope beyond our personal feelings. So I really feel like that's what. That's why we're here again today. And a lot of people like to, I guess, hone in on the business aspect of it, which is cool, but. But what people forget is that we were very young when we started, so we established something beyond in respects to the business. We really created a bond and a brotherhood, so we're happy to present ourselves in a better way, in a more mature way. And. Yeah. Now, what about you? How was it for you getting back to the group? Because you said you sent out a bunch of emails, and you've been up here passionate before about making this work. So what was for you that said, you know, what, this is gonna work or what needed to happen for you to say, this could work again? For me, I had to take accountability for my actions. Right. And learn how to regulate my emotions. There's a lot of things I learned in different coping skills and therapy, and I feel like with my maturity, my marriage, me having children, it just really grounded me, and I feel like there was a love that I was looking for. Because when you dedicate so much to this industry and then the rug is pulled up under you and you're just trying to figure out your back is against the wall, you're feeling these emotions that you don't know how to express, you got people around you exploiting that. You know what I mean? So just getting into good space and then having my brothers, you know, shout out to his therapist. I have a therapist, but he's like a life coach. I call him, like, 4 o' clock in the morning, like, yo, bro, walking the floors, like, hey, listen, man, we ain't gonna go into that. But, yeah, shout out to no real talk, not real brothers. Count accountability, man. Yeah, definitely. Just the maturity, you know, growing up, taking accountability, having those rough conversations with O and, you know, just really displaying the true genuineness from my heart, you know, in action, more than words. So I think that's just really what brought us all back.

I mean, with Omaria and Fizz, we saw everything with, like, you know, April, like, whatever. And I know that there was a. When I saw your apology, Fizz, a few years ago, I felt like there was a lot of hurt on Both sides that led to where y' all got to. How has it been dealing with that hurt in real time? Because I know the conversations are probably still happening actively. Like, that's not like a one time thing.

Yeah. I mean, the whole entirety of it.

So let me. I'm speak on that because it's. It's deeper than just them, you know what I'm saying? Like, there's a family that you talking about, so if anybody got siblings and you close, you know what I'm saying? Like, what they go through don't just affect them.

And it's not just them, you know, I'm saying working to get through it. You know, for us, it's like since day one, it's always been a straight up, you know, so we're not gonna hold on to nothing, something that we didn't already cover, you know what I'm saying? Oh, we've been doing it for the past couple of years together. I came out on the first run with 2019. You brought me out right in Atlanta. And it just made sense, them as a group. I haven't toured with them in over, what, 20 years, so it just made sense. Me and Chris did runs, me and O did runs. And I'm like, yeah, we only danced, what, twice? It'd be good to dance one more time. And the millennium tours, we've been killing them. Like every year. We just been killing them. And we just felt like the time is now. They're celebrating. I'm celebrating 25 in the game. The boys are celebrating theirs. And it's just a full circle moment. It's like, yeah, let's do it now. And we still got it. That's the thing.

And Ray J is, you know, he's saying, first of all, he wants people to realize that he would not use anything health related to get the people going to go viral. He doesn't have to do that. So let's take a listen to Ray J on the photographer's claims.

I talked to the photographer, and he said that he was. He. He was trying to make it lighter and make it cool because he didn't want to. Want us to look crazy.

He says that the photographer is basically saying this because they want it all to calm down because everything was like overhyped to the point where like Ray J is kind of worried about like business and stuff like that being pulled away from him. It was reported that Prince Andrew was reported to the police for alleged misconduct in public office. Because. Because the allegations and the reports are saying that there was someone that was complaining that because of what they saw in the Epstein docs, Prince Andrew had given these like, secret trading files that weren't supposed to be given to anyone to Epstein because of their friendship. There were photos that came out of Prince Andrew in the Epstein files as well, too. He's like kneeling over this woman who's like, laid out on the floor. And Prince Andrew was stripped of his title. He's not no longer Prince because of the whole Epstein situation. So this story is developing. I mean, it's breaking literally by the moment. I just saw a statement from Prince Charles. I'm sorry, King Charles as. As well, saying that the law must take its course. So there'll be more there.

And that was one of the things that was thrown out there. And his new girlfriend didn't deny that, although she shot back at some of the other claims. So. Maybe you didn't either. Who's you? I'm your host, B. Dot, and I hope you're sharing this content because myself, along with the team put a lot of work in making sure we came up with fresh ideas this February. Wanted to talk about people they don't normally talk about during Black History Month. You know, they give us the same old civil rights stories every year. Year where Rosa Parks wouldn't sit on the back of the bus. And Martin Luther King, he had a dream. And if you like peanut butter, you should thank George Washington Carver because he helped with the peanuts, man. This season is to introduce new black history heroes. And some of the names, even if you've heard them, we've dug even deeper into folks to give you even more things that I didn't know. Maybe you didn't either about them. Like episode one. I knew Carter G. Woodson invented Black History week, February of 1926. But I didn't know he was a coal miner before that. I didn't know he started high school at 20 years old. This season is for you to share episodes and be a light to someone else. And speaking of lights, when you walk in your house and flip that switch and them house lights come on, who you think made that possible? Now, usually most people just say one name. Wait for it. They all say Thomas Edison. And that's the problem. But before we jump into that, it is customary that we give you three of the most useless facts you'll never need ever. Not a day in life. Up first, early electric bulbs existed, but they burned out hella fast and they cost way too much much to replace them. Your second useless fact, it was a black engineer to fix that problem. Not only did he make electric light practical, but he made it affordable. And your third useless fact. Las Vegas at night. Nashville, Tennessee at night. Y city at night does not work without the contribution of Lewis Latimer. Let's meet him. All right, so let me tell you where history gets lazy. Yes, Thomas Edison helped bring electric lighting to market. That part is true. But Thomas Edison's early light bulbs was flawed as ever. I mean, they work, but they ain't last. You know that little wiggly thing inside the light bulb that called a filament? And his filaments were super frozen fragile. They burned out hella quick. And it was way too expensive to be using every day. So electric light stayed a novelty, not an infrastructure. It was like having a Maybach. You can only drive on Mondays. And that's when that brother, Lewis Latimer changed the game. So he improved that carbon filament inside the bulb. That little squiggly thing. He made it stronger, it lasted longer, it was cheaper to produce it. Like Lewis Latimer didn't take tweak the light bulb. He invented the process that they could mass produce the carbon filaments. The pack numbers 252386 got filed in January of 1882. Look, without that patent, every light bulb would have been handmade. Ain't nobody afford that handmade light bulbs. It sounds technical, but the impact was massive. Cuz now street lights stay on. Hospitals could operate at night. Night factories could run longer shifts. He also wrote the first technical manual on electric lighting. He was training engineers who spread the system across the country. The book was called Incandescent Electric Lighting. A Practical Description of the Edison System. It was published in 1890. It literally taught America how electricity worked. And here's the quiet irony. Lewis Latimer was one of the only black members of the Edison pioneers. And the Edison pioneers was an elite group that was shaping America's electrical future. One of the only but you know, history. History. Love a solo genius story. So Thomas S. Madison, he became the headline and Lewis Latimer, he became the footnote, even though his work is still light in our streets today. Ain't it always interesting how inventions get remembered but the infrastructure gets erased? A century ago, Carter G. Woodson, who graduated high school in just two years after starting at the age of 20, he warned us that black contributions will power the world. While our names names would disappear from the record, Lewis Latimer proves his point perfectly. The light stayed on the credit didn't Hidden in plain sight. And I didn't know. Maybe you didn't either.
