DJ Envy
Good morning. What's up, Jess? How you feeling?
Angela Yee
I'm feeling good. How y' all doing?
DJ Envy
I'm good.
Charlamagne Tha God
Good.
DJ Envy
Good. I wanna. Well, how's the book thing? Because I know you're on tour right now, your book comes out April 28th.
Raven Johnson
How's the tour going?
Angela Yee
Yes, it's going well. I have a lot of press lined up between now. Well actually started two weeks ago between now and 4:28 actually my press goes all the way into May. But I' this is the first time I've been on a book tour. But yo, let me tell you, your pre sales don't, don't. They don't work like you know what I'm saying? Because I sell products, I sell tickets to comedy shows, I sell everything else. I've never sold books before pre order and it's kind of hard expecting somebody to pre order something that they, you know, that they're not gonna get until like weeks, weeks later. So that, that's my only worry right now. Like the, the pre sale game. We're being very transparent because you say
Charlamagne Tha God
you all over the place. That's what.
Angela Yee
Yeah, I'm at, I'm at home right now. I have press in D.C. i have press in Baltimore, I've had press in Virginia. So yeah, I'm at home. But yeah, I've been doing press all over the place and still got more press to come. But yeah, the pre sale game is different. Yo. Definitely different.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, people are also, you know, dealing with a lot of other things right now. Life and life and life. Yes, yes.
Angela Yee
It's still, it's just still hard to sell something that you're not going to get until later. Yeah, well, I get everybody going through things. Absolutely everybody always.
Charlamagne Tha God
People have been buying books since the beginning of time.
DJ Envy
That's right.
Charlamagne Tha God
No problem. Pre ordering.
DJ Envy
Yeah. So when pre orders they usually get it the day that the book comes out. And then as it comes out, more and more people are reviewing it and telling people how great the book is and you'll get it. And once you get out there, more and more and more people will start understanding and getting diving into your book. I think.
Angela Yee
Appreciate that. Yeah, listen, I know it's gonna be a great piece of literature is gonna be, is gonna do well when it comes out. I'm just like not used to pre sale. I'm not used to building up to things like that. That's not how I, you know, sell product or tickets or anything like that. But yeah, just sharing that. But I'm very excited for the release of my book.
DJ Envy
Well, welcome to the book world. Welcome to the book world.
Angela Yee
Thank you.
DJ Envy
Salute to everybody in New Orleans, Larry Morrow sends His love. I seen Larry yesterday. I was out in New Orleans. I stopped by one of his.
Charlamagne Tha God
One of his restaurants. I did eat some good food.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I would tell.
Charlamagne Tha God
Going to places like New Orleans to come back and tell me. Don't tell me what you at.
DJ Envy
Yeah, well, I went to his.
Charlamagne Tha God
Care about who you saw other than Larry, because he got all the food.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I went to his grandmother's restaurant. It's called Sunshine.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, I ain't been there yet.
DJ Envy
Sunshine. Banging, banging, banging, banging. So I went there yesterday. I was actually out there. There's a black entrepreneur collective that do. It's kind of like they do meetings, they do meet and greets. They, you know, it's just all about politicking, meeting and networking. And I was.
Angela Yee
It was Chinese food at Sunshine.
DJ Envy
Yes. It's a little bit of everything.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's like every time you say that, it sounds racist. I just don't like the way you pronounce Suncheon. It might be, but the way you
Angela Yee
say
Charlamagne Tha God
Dominican who claims to be black just don't sound.
DJ Envy
You got to stop that. Because when I was DJing, the black entrepreneur, they was like, aren't you Dominican? And they laughing.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm like, no, for things. But he. He's Afro Dominican.
DJ Envy
I'm not Afro Dominican. So again, salute to everybody I've seen in New Orleans. And son.
Angela Yee
Her mother's Chinese.
DJ Envy
Yes, Korean, actually.
Angela Yee
Oh, that's dope.
DJ Envy
She's Korean and black. So she met her husband in the military when I believe it was the Korean War. They were out there, they met and the Korean family did not approve of it. So she came back here, moved, and
Charlamagne Tha God
had a famous woman story, right? I did. I spoke to her.
DJ Envy
I speak to all the time. I speak to her all the time. So again, salute to everybody out in New Orleans. You know who I seen two yesterday? I seen Gunner. Rapper Gunner. I seen Gunna.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, you know what? Actually, yeah, I saw Larry. I saw the restaurant post that Larry posted.
DJ Envy
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I seen Gunny. We were sitting next to each other. I didn't even recognize him because he lost so much weight. I didn't recognize him at first, but salute to Gunna. I ran into Gunna as well.
Charlamagne Tha God
And listen, we have some special guests on the show this morning. Raven Johnson and Ta' Niya Lachson. Okay. Will be joining us Now. I gotta tell y', all, last night they did get drafted. Raymond Johnson went to the Indiana Fever. Ta' Niya went to the Los Angeles Parks. But they came here before the draft.
DJ Envy
Before the draft.
Charlamagne Tha God
They Came here yesterday. Yesterday morning.
DJ Envy
Yes, yes. And also from Real Housewives of Atlanta, Portia Williams will be joining us.
Charlamagne Tha God
Man, she always getting drafted by somebody. Portia got two rings. All right. Porsche already got two rings. Working on the third. Drop on the clues, mom. Okay. All right. She got two rings. Already working on a third. You heard me. Okay.
DJ Envy
All right. Well, let's get the show cracking. Today is the brat's birthday. We got some brat. Some brat. Tat tat anything.
Portia Williams
Happy birthday.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right, there we go.
DJ Envy
Let's start the show like this. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
Morning, everybody.
DJ Envy
It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Salute to the brats. Her birthday. She's 52 today, so we've got on her joint. And let's get in some front page news. Start off with some quick sports. We gotta congratulations. Congratulate Ozzy Fudge. She was the number one pick yesterday. Yukon.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes, indeed.
DJ Envy
She went to Dallas.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes, indeed.
DJ Envy
And we got to also congratulate Flauje Johnson. Of course, she's been up here a couple of times. She was drafted to the Golden State and then traded to Seattle, so.
Charlamagne Tha God
And salute to the South Carolina Gamecocks that got drafted. Raven Johnson went to the Indiana Fever. Ta nya Lassen went to the Los Angeles Fox. Medina Okot went to the Atlanta Dream. And I'm gonna tell you something. When you watching the WNBA draft and you hear the announcer refer to a player as a stud, it's hilarious because
DJ Envy
I didn't see it last night. What you mean?
Charlamagne Tha God
She met like, you know, a dominant, highly athletic player. But it's the wnba, so it just hit. It's. It's a little different when you say it.
Angela Yee
So it actually means what? That's what a stud actually means. A high dominated.
Charlamagne Tha God
I mean, I don't know if. If that's what it actually means, but they use the word stud when they're referring to like, you know, great athletes sometimes.
DJ Envy
I didn't hear that. So they said coming to the stage, the studs.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, man, they didn't say it like that. They was just like referring to one of the women and they was like, she's a stud.
Angela Yee
Hey, y com to the stage is crazy.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's what he made it seem like.
Mimi Brown
Good morning, M.V. j. How y' all doing this morning?
DJ Envy
Peace.
Charlamagne Tha God
Mimi Brown.
Angela Yee
Hey, Mimi.
Charlamagne Tha God
It is hot in here, right? I thought it was just me.
DJ Envy
It's hot.
Angela Yee
It's hot outside today.
DJ Envy
It is.
Mimi Brown
It is hot outside today. All right, well, we start this Morning, with the President facing backlash over a controversial social media post. So the post showed President Trump depicted as Jesus appearing to heal a man with light coming from his hand. The AI generated image. It drew immediate criticism, including from religious leaders and some of his own supporters. It was deleted about 13 hours later. But the President says the image was misunderstood, telling reporters that it's not what everyone thinks it is. Let's listen.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, it wasn't depiction. It was me. I did post it and I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do with Red Cross, as a Red Cross worker there, which we support. And only the fake news could come up with that one. So I, I had, I just heard about it and I said, how did they come up with that? It's supposed to be me as a doctor making people better. His lies never made sense, but that one definitely ain't made no sense. How did he come up with that? Like, his lies used to be a tad bit better, but that made no sense whatsoever.
DJ Envy
He just don't care anymore.
Charlamagne Tha God
I've seen the picture. He didn't look like no goddamn.
DJ Envy
He looked like he was trying to portray Jesus. That's what he looked like.
Mimi Brown
Exactly. And that's what everyone took it as. So Trump says he took it down to avoid confusion, but he did not apologize. And this all comes hours after the President took aim at Pope Leo, criticizing him for opposing US Military action against Iran. In a lengthy social media post, Trump called the Pope weak and said he was terrible at foreign policy. Now, the Pope has been calling for peace, warning against threats of destruction, and urging leaders to avoid further escalation. So yesterday, speaking to reporters while heading to a 10 city peace tour across Africa, the Pope says that he has no fear of the Trump administration and says that he's not looking for a fight. Let's listen.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't want to get into a debate with him. I don't think that the message of the gospel is meant to be abused in the way that some people are doing. And I will continue to speak out loud against war, looking to promote peace, promoting dialogue and multilateral relationships among the states, to look for just solutions or problems. Too many people are suffering in the world today. Too many innocent people are being killed. And I think someone has to stand up and say there's a better way to do this. What did, what did Trump expect the Pope to say? The Pope is all about peace. The Pope is all about love. He's all about light. Of course he don't want war. Like, what are we talking about? Here.
Mimi Brown
And how do you pick a fight with the Pope of all people?
Charlamagne Tha God
Lord have mercy.
Mimi Brown
And then later, we hear from the White House, the president, he doubled down saying he does not owe the pope an apology. And so meanwhile, JD Vance, he's also weighing in and he is defending the president.
Charlamagne Tha God
Here he is, the president was posting a joke, and of course, he took it down because he recognized that a lot of people weren't understanding his humor. In that case, I think the President, United States likes to mix it up on social media. And I actually think that's one of the good things about this president, is that he's not filtered. He doesn't send everything through a communications professional. He actually reaches out directly to the people. No, he should absolutely send it through a communications professional. Okay.
Mimi Brown
Yeah, I think that should all go through a filter. I think that that is the consensus. But this conversation now sparking backlash from new, numerous conservative groups and even people amongst Trump's entire base.
Raven Johnson
So.
Mimi Brown
And really quickly to a major political fallout in Washington. So yesterday we told you about Congressman Eric Swalwell like he was. He suspended his run for California governor following multiple sexual assault or sexual misconduct allegations. Well, this morning we're learning that he now plans to resign from Congress. The move comes as he faces House a House ethics investigation and growing pressure from both sides of the aisle to step down. There was even a possible talk of him, the House voting to expel him. And now his resignation could also trigger a special election to replace his seat. Now, he's denying those allegations, but they come from a former staffer who claims she was sexually assaulted along with other women alleging sexual misconduct. And those allegations are now under investigation. But that wasn't the only shake up on Capitol Hill. Republican Congressman Tony Gonzalez also announcing that he plans to step down. They announced it on the same day Gonzalez, he had been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee over a relationship with a former staffer. That staffer later died by suicide.
Lauren LaRosa
So he is.
Mimi Brown
He was also facing the possibility of an expulsion vote.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, it really feels like we were in two different worlds. Like ethics, morals laws, they have to be enforced all across the board. Like, why do we expect more from others than we do the President of the United States of America?
Mimi Brown
Pretty much. Well, coming up at seven, when you get to the checkout line, does it feel a little different lately? A lot of people say they're feeling pressure. We'll explain. We'll talk about it in the next hour.
DJ Envy
All right, everybody else, get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, phone lines are wide open. Once again, 1-800-585-1051 is the breakfast Club. Good morning, Ray.
Charlamagne Tha God
Ray. Ray.
DJ Envy
Yo.
Charlamagne Tha God
Charlamagne.
DJ Envy
Envy, what up?
Lauren LaRosa
Are we live?
Charlamagne Tha God
This is your time to get it off your chest. I got an indoor pool, outdoor pool.
DJ Envy
We want to hear from you on the Breakfast Club. We can get on the phone right now.
Charlamagne Tha God
He'll tell you what it is. Hello?
DJ Envy
Who's this?
Caller
Hi. Envious.
Raven Johnson
Karen.
Caller
Hi. Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy
Hey, Karen.
Angela Yee
Good morning, everyone.
DJ Envy
Get it off your chest. Karen.
Caller
Just shouting. Especially to Hunter. For those that know her, know, I'm a Gwinnett county public school driver, and I just wanted to get off my chest how tricky the transportation department is. All of those beautiful big signs about $21 to $29. That's garbage. It's basically prorated pay. A lot of people are under the assumption that we get paid for just being home during the summer. No, no, no. They take big chunks of our pay, prorating it through the year to ration it out into the summer. So when these people come in for their free training and their cdl, they think they may get in a really sweet deal. And after they see the logistics, it's such a revolving door. People come and go, come and go, and they don't pay the people in Georgia a living, sustainable wage. They're kind of. They're exploiting single parents, whether it's men or women, moms or dads, we're not making enough to make a single household budget work. And bus drivers are no longer for retirees. These are people that need to get their kids to school and from school, that don't have any extra cash to do after school or before school. These average parents are just trying to do what they need to do to basically provide for their families. And Gwinnett county does not pay our bus drivers that drive our most precious cargo.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yep.
Caller
Our children, Walmart, all of these big franchise companies for the supermarkets. They're driving merchandise. A lot of These truckers get 41 an hour. Plus, I've been a bus driver for seven years, and I'm still only at step seven. And that's under $23. It ridiculous.
DJ Envy
Wow.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah. That's a travesty. Yeah. Makes me believe they don't care about the drivers or the kids. Because to your point, if I'm trusting you with such precious cargo, you know I need to pay you. Like you carrying precious cargo.
Caller
Exactly, Charlemagne. At the end of the day, they throw us a little bone. They give us a $2,000, $1,000 bonus. And everyone's happy. All the bus drivers like, oh, we're getting a bonus. We're getting a bonus. No, this is something that should be already granted. But our wages need to go up. We don't have people that fight for bus drivers.
Charlamagne Tha God
I agree wholeheartedly.
DJ Envy
Salute to all the bus drivers out there. I know a lot of them getting ready to. Getting ready to go pick up their kids and drop them off at school. But yeah, I totally agree. I'm so sorry, mama.
Caller
Yeah, Check it out. Most ACs don't. Most buses don't have ACs. So we have all of these kids jam packed up this bus. Hot, sweaty, red, God knows, almost passing out. Why is it that you can do that to children on a bus, but if you leave an animal in a car, somebody's calling the cops on you?
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Caller
It's crazy out here, guys. Everyone, parents listening, please. Appreciate your school bus driver. There's only one adult to maybe 42 to 68 kids per bus. And we have to drive safely. We have to make sure nobody's picking on your kids. We have to make sure that there' behavior management. We have a lot to do, plus drive at the same time. Please appreciate us and please fight to get us a living wage. We're taking care of your kids. They are our kids.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Caller
Twice a day. Making sure we get them from your house to school safely and from school back home safely.
DJ Envy
Yeah, absolutely. Thank you so much.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's something to think about when you're dropping your kids off at the bus stop this morning. Man salute. Salute all the bus drivers out there.
DJ Envy
That's right. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you, if you need the vent, hit us up now. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. This is your time to get it off your chest.
Portia Williams
Whether you're mad or blessed.
Charlamagne Tha God
I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk I hate the way that you dress. Everything with me is blessed. Call up next.
DJ Envy
800-585-1051.
Charlamagne Tha God
Not just me, I'm with the culture feeling. Hello? Who's this?
Caller
Hello, It's Shanasia.
DJ Envy
Hey, good morning. Get it off your chest.
Lauren LaRosa
It's my birthday today, so I just
Caller
wanted to call in so I can celebrate.
Lauren LaRosa
Good morning, Shane.
Angela Yee
Asia.
Charlamagne Tha God
Happy born day. Happy born day.
DJ Envy
Where you calling from?
Lauren LaRosa
I love you guys. I love you guys. Even though I've told him before in Charlamagne told me I didn't deserve Happiness. But I love you guys.
Charlamagne Tha God
Damn. Do you deserve. Do you. Do you deserve happiness? Now let me hear what's going on in your life. It's a birthday.
Caller
I do. And also I'm so Latina fair.
Lauren LaRosa
I was there for 13 years. And I love.
Charlamagne Tha God
What if he is doing for everybody?
Caller
They really do appreciate it.
Lauren LaRosa
My mother's still there.
Charlamagne Tha God
My boyfriend is there.
Lauren LaRosa
So shout out to you.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's really dope. They will all be there.
DJ Envy
Oh, you're a TSA worker?
Caller
Yeah, I used to be. 13 years.
Lauren LaRosa
But I work for a different agency now.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay, that's dope.
DJ Envy
Well, salute to all the TSA workers. And hopefully they can enjoy that that week that American Dream is doing for the TSA agents to give them a little stress reliever for with their family and stuff. I just think it's dope just to give back.
Charlamagne Tha God
What you got planned for your B day.
Lauren LaRosa
I have a lot of things. I have a ladies night plan.
Caller
My boyfriend told me today, just come home from work, get dressed, I'm going
Charlamagne Tha God
to work because I love my job. But he said, come home from work,
Raven Johnson
get dressed and we going out.
Charlamagne Tha God
You going to work because you got your little work husband. You want to see what he gonna get you for your birthday? That's why you're going to work today.
DJ Envy
Oh, I love that.
Angela Yee
She loved her job.
Charlamagne Tha God
You made us a little laugh. That's why I said you don't deserve happiness. You see what I'm saying?
Angela Yee
You're a clown.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't. Oh, Happy born day.
DJ Envy
Happy birthday.
Charlamagne Tha God
I wish you the best today.
DJ Envy
Enjoy your day.
Angela Yee
Absolutely. Happy birthday.
Charlamagne Tha God
I love you guys. Have a good one.
Angela Yee
Hello.
Charlamagne Tha God
Who's this?
Angela Yee
Also my son. Birthday too. Happy birthday to Big Ash. 14.
DJ Envy
What's up, Ash? Happy birthday, Ash. Not you, man.
Lauren LaRosa
Good morning, y'.
Charlamagne Tha God
All.
DJ Envy
So about Jess. Hilarious. Son's birthday.
Angela Yee
What's your bad, yo? Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
Hey, what up though, man?
Caller
What's up, Jess?
Charlamagne Tha God
What's up, shallow man? What's up, dj? What's up, brother? Good morning. I want to say a couple things first. I ain't gonna be long though. How people mad at Gucci for snitching or whatever he did with Pooh Shiesty who robbed him. But people not mad at Gunna for telling them thug and he got on court and understand and testify. I don't understand that.
Caller
That's a contradiction that I don't understand between black people.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't even understand. I don't even understand the correlation that you just made because people mad at Gucci for telling on him, for robbing him. But people justifying gunners snitching on thug because they saying he wasn't in the street. But Gunner is literally riding with a dude that was in the street and kicking him with thug who was in the street. But Gucci been out of prison but not the street for over 10, 15, 20 years. Listen, listen, my brother, let me, let me give you a different perspective. Like I don't know about Gunnar Art Gucci, but. But why ain't nobody mad at. More mad at Pooh Shiesty for what he did. Yeah, that's what. And he just came home from doing that already and his dad was with him and he had a bunch of people with him. Like why there's a person who allegedly committed a crime. I could care less what gunna and Gucci did in that situation. What I'm saying is he's saying if
Angela Yee
you're going to justify one snitching, you got justified.
Charlamagne Tha God
They didn't justify. They used to. They was killing guns.
DJ Envy
Nobody would do shows with him. Nobody would play records with him for a long time.
Charlamagne Tha God
We saw him in a restaurant yesterday and ain't talked to him for 10 minutes.
DJ Envy
I didn't know it was him though.
Charlamagne Tha God
For no reason. Like he's some street.
DJ Envy
No, don't put that out there. Gonna lost so much weight. I didn't know it was gonna at first.
Charlamagne Tha God
Hey, do girl gotta testify today? Who?
DJ Envy
What?
Charlamagne Tha God
That lady in the. In congress? Oh, no, she don't. You talk about Pam bonding. Yeah, they gotta make her come to the stand today, man. Well, she not. I don't think she is. I don't know. I don't think she is. All right, man. That's not one in it. Just let me get a book. Can I get a book? Can I preorder?
Caller
Get a book?
Angela Yee
Yeah, you can pre order the book. Just Larry's official dot com. You go in there and just pre order. Add to the pre sales for me, bro.
DJ Envy
There you go.
Angela Yee
I appreciate it. Hell yeah.
Portia Williams
I got you.
Angela Yee
I'm signing for you.
DJ Envy
He wanted a free one, Jess.
Angela Yee
He said can I get a pre. Can I, can I get a book then? Can I pre order a book? Yeah, you can go ahead, pre order a book. I got you.
DJ Envy
Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. What's up, Lauren?
Lauren LaRosa
Good morning.
DJ Envy
The ladies coming up.
Lauren LaRosa
Good morning, Jess.
Charlamagne Tha God
Look like a wet backwood.
Lauren LaRosa
I just put like some glow on there because my arms is out today and I want to glow and look beautiful.
Charlamagne Tha God
You Got two of them attached to your body. Jesus, shut up.
Lauren LaRosa
Let's focus.
Raven Johnson
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Somebody licking the blunt and they rolling. Don't look like that.
Lauren LaRosa
It'd be annoying when it's actually funny. That would be the worst. Yes, we do got the latest coming up. The 2026 Rock and Roll hall of Fame inductees have been.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes, indeed.
Lauren LaRosa
And some people upset too, though.
DJ Envy

Charlamagne Tha God
You can't just inductee. Listen. We got people upset.

The Breakfast Club is a place for the people. I literally have fans writing me upset. And we are going to talk about why.
DJ Envy

I'm John Green. You may know me as the author of the Fault in Our Stars. And now, I guess also as the co host of the Away End, a brand new world soccer podcast. I'm Daniel Alarcon, a writer and journalist, and John and I have known each other since we were kids. My first World cup was Mexico, 86. I was 9 years old. I watched every game and I fell in love. On our new podcast, the Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football, all leading up to the 2026 World Cup. For us, soccer football is a story
DJ Envy
we've shared for over 30 years, since Daniel was the star player on our
Charlamagne Tha God
high school soccer team. Very debatable. And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan. I love this game. I love its history, its hope, its heartbreak, and above all, its beauty. Together, we'll find out why. Of all the unimportant things football, soccer is the most important. Listen to the Away End with Daniel Alarcon and John green on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Lauren LaRosa
Hi, everyone. I'm Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild and Tiny Beautiful Things.
Mimi Brown
I'm excited to share that I have a new podcast called Mind Over Mountain.
Lauren LaRosa
In each episode, I interview athletes, adventurers
Mimi Brown
and adrenaline seekers to discuss the inner landscapes and life experiences that informed and
Charlamagne Tha God
inspired their extraordinary feats. I also bring a bit of advice into the Mix so we, too, can
Lauren LaRosa
better understand how to face our own seemingly insurmountable challenges.
DJ Envy
Do you know what I'm going to do?
Angela Yee
I'm going to pull out what you already have inside.
Portia Williams
We come into this world fighting for our lives.
DJ Envy
All I'm gonna do is pull out
Charlamagne Tha God
what you already got inside.
Mimi Brown
We're there to support and celebrate each other, and that is not like a
Lauren LaRosa
your story versus my story. You're gonna walk up and over that dang mountain. You're not just gonna put your mind over it.
DJ Envy
Yep, yep, Exactly. And if I can't walk up and
Charlamagne Tha God
over it, I'm gonna go through it.

Brianna Stewart
What's the vibe of that? When it's like your star player is
Charlamagne Tha God
like, well, I want to leave, and
Brianna Stewart
then actually, now I'm going to stay.
Charlamagne Tha God
We talk tanking.
Brianna Stewart
I mean, honestly, like, I might get in trouble for this answer, but I think it's like, like, definitely happening in the wnba.
Charlamagne Tha God
And, yeah, we talk about our mistakes, too. They pulled me to the side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night, man, you can't be rolling around the city like this the night before games. No, you know, doing this, doing whatever.
Brianna Stewart
And of course, family stories.
Charlamagne Tha God
They'll be like, mommy, why did you miss that? Mommy, do you play basketball?

DJ Envy
Morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
Your talk. LL Cool.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, I'm not dumbing myself down. I'm being myself. I'm the homegirl that knows a little bit about everything and everything.
Angela Yee
The little brown girls look at you
Lauren LaRosa
and go, I want to be like you.
Portia Williams
Take me through that. Take me through that.
Charlamagne Tha God
The latest with Laura Lewis on the Breakfast Club. LL Cool Bay, talk to me.
Lauren LaRosa
All right, y'. All. So the Rock and Roll hall of Fame inductees were announced yesterday, so I
Charlamagne Tha God
really wish they would change that name to just the Music hall of Fame.
Angela Yee
Oh, you don't like the rock and roll?
Charlamagne Tha God
No, it's more than rock and roll.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. Yeah, cuz. I mean, so we're gonna talk about the inductees. So Luther Vandross, Shade, Iron Mate, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Phil Collins, Billy. Billy Idol. I was gonna say Billy. Billy Idol. WU Division sl, New Order were inducted yesterday. And then, and, and that's the performer category. And in the, in the early influencer category you have Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy yy and Robert Johnson. In the non performers category you have Alan Fre. Oh, wait, I'm sorry, this is the wrong year.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, I don't. All who were nominated, you just named the people who actually got in. Cuz on top of those people, the people that were nominated was Mariah Carey, New Edition, nxl, Pink, Black Crows, Lauryn Hill, Melissa Ether, Shakira, Jeff Buckley. And the people you named are the ones who got in. Yeah, it was 16 nominations.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay, yes, I got my order. Right, but in the early. So let me redo that again because the Early Influence Awards I wanted to mention Queen Latifah. So you have the performer category for 2026 and you have the Early Influence Awards. So you have Queen Latifah, MC Light, and then you have Sila Cruz, Fela Kuti, Graham Parsons, and then they have a Music Excellence award and other, uh, nominees now on the list that did not make it into the act. Inductions were New Edition. And that was a big conversation because New Edition, they were leading in the fan vote.
Charlamagne Tha God
They had won the fan vote.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes, they had a little over a million fan votes. And I had a lot of people that were reaching out to me yesterday once it was announced, trying to figure out like why if they won the fan vote, would they not have won or actually been inducted into the committee? Yeah, so I think a lot of people don't know that though. So there are different ways that you can get into the induction conversation in, in the beginning. So first of all, there's a nominated committee. So this is a small group of historians, Indian industry professionals and artists who select the list of committees. And then after that there's a voting body. So this is more than 1200 experts. So these people include people who have already been inducted. Historians, music industry professionals, and they review the nominees. And from there I'm a part of
Charlamagne Tha God
that voting body, by the way.
Lauren LaRosa
Got you. Okay. And then so from there the fan vote, which is Wade as well, that's the general public. So that's what a lot of the fans were rallying for. And they were going super hard for New Edition for. And that's the public votes. And that's where you went and vote when you go to vote that Rock and Roll hall of Fame and then the induction selections happen. But yeah, there's a bunch of different things that weigh in on the vote and a bunch of different people.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Angela Yee
So basically it's different rounds. It's different rounds you gotta go through.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, it's not.
Lauren LaRosa
No, not rounds. It's just a bunch of different things that weigh in to equal whether you're inducted or not. It's not just.
DJ Envy
Okay, but it is a little bit of that, a little bit of this. So it's all collectively the way that you get in. It's not just a fan vote. It's not just the industry vote. It's not just the committee.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, it's all of it.
Charlamagne Tha God
You have a fan vote and you have a voting body. That's it. And the voting body is, like Lauren just said, is people who are already in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's musicians and historians, so called industry experts.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes. I have a question. How do you separate the industry experts from the like, what is the industry expert to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame because it expands across so many different genres.
Charlamagne Tha God
I have no idea. I'm in the voting body and I'm an expert at nothing thing.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I'm in a voting body as well.
Charlamagne Tha God
I just have some experience.
DJ Envy
But I do believe New Editions should have made it just their history. I mean, they sold 88 million records together. They started that group in 1978. They've been relevant, selling out tours damn near since. I think New Edition.
Charlamagne Tha God
But all is my opinion, all is not lost. Just because you don't get in this year doesn't mean you won't get in next year.
Portia Williams
No.
DJ Envy
And I'm surprised Mariah didn't.
Charlamagne Tha God
I surprised Mariah Carey didn't.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, I was surprised Mariah Carey didn't get in. But there was a, a statement circulating yesterday and I know I reached out to New Edition or for a rep for Black Promoters Collective, trying to get to them just to see, you know, what their response would be. And you know, all in all, the conversation around what the response was is like, it happens. They mentioned the Dave Matthews Band. And the reason why they mentioned Dave Matthews Band is because in 2020, the Dave Matthews Band won the fan vote as well, but they didn't get inducted. But then in 2024, they were actually inducted to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. So it's like these groups are still great and it can happen again. And if fans rallied down, you could rally again, you know what I mean?
Charlamagne Tha God
And also salute to New Edition. I do think New Edition should have got in, but, man, sometimes we spend too much time talking about what didn't happen as opposed to talking about what did.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
Wu Tang Clan. Yes. Is in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Like, drop one includes bombs for that. Like Wu Tang. That's crazy.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Like, come on, man.
DJ Envy
Luther's from the Bronx. So big up to the Bronx.
Lauren LaRosa
Queen Latifah, mc. Like, get the mention for the early influence. Influence.
Charlamagne Tha God
A war.
DJ Envy
Versus absolutely, positively.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Think about when we first watched, when we first saw Wu Tang clan in the 1990s. Protect your neck. Wait. Yeah, you're right. Come on, man.
Lauren LaRosa
I saw Raekwon posted in response to this, too. He said history books will know this club, this, my Grammy. What we talking about. Shout out to all the mothers who birthed these men. They won tonight.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Angela Yee
Yes, man.
Charlamagne Tha God
You walk in Walmart and Target and see the Wu Tang logo all over the place.
Portia Williams
Yeah, damn right.
Charlamagne Tha God
They getting into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame.
Lauren LaRosa
And New Edition said, you know, for the fans to keep the same energy in 2027 when it's time to vote again.
Charlamagne Tha God
Absolutely.
Lauren LaRosa
That's exactly what the fans shall do.
Charlamagne Tha God
New Edition. We'll definitely get in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame in the next couple of years.
DJ Envy
Well, can you name all the.
Charlamagne Tha God
Nah.
DJ Envy
No, you can't name. Okay, but name the Wu Tang members.
Lauren LaRosa
Rayquan.
DJ Envy
Oh, my goodness.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay.
Portia Williams
I can't. I gave up.
Lauren LaRosa
Y' all made me nervous. Y' all made me nervous. Y' all made me. Rza, Jizza, Meth Man. Not Red Man.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, Red man is not.
DJ Envy
I'm sorry.
Portia Williams
Why?
Charlamagne Tha God
Why you even do that to her? I'm sorry.
Brianna Stewart
Continue.
Lauren LaRosa
No Red Man.
DJ Envy
Yo, shut up.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, really. Shut up. For real. I'll jump aside.
Lauren LaRosa
All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, respectfully, shut up.
Lauren LaRosa
Moving on. Moving, moving on. It was a joke, y'.
Charlamagne Tha God
All.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes, it was.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, no, no.
Portia Williams
We got. Wait.
Lauren LaRosa
I have something else to say.
Charlamagne Tha God
I can't name them. No, no, now you got to name them since it was a joke.
Lauren LaRosa
I don't know them. I told you that the first time.
Charlamagne Tha God
So what was the joke?
Angela Yee
But you were right there, though.
Lauren LaRosa
All right, I know. Just.
Angela Yee
She was literally just.
DJ Envy
She did not know. Continue.
Lauren LaRosa
Before we have to wrap up, I wanted to mention the WNBA draft yesterday. I know you guys were talking about it this morning, and I went last night. Speaking of learning things, it was my first time at anything wnba.
Angela Yee
Nice.
Lauren LaRosa
And it was. It was a great experience, though.
Brianna Stewart
What?
Lauren LaRosa
Why are you huffing and puffing?
Angela Yee
Go ahead.
Lauren LaRosa
Go Ahead.
Angela Yee
It was a great experience. What happened? Like, tell me about it said what happened.
Charlamagne Tha God
What do you know, Laura?
Lauren LaRosa
Well, what I do.
Angela Yee
The latest.
Lauren LaRosa
What exactly.
Angela Yee
That was the latest.
Lauren LaRosa
What I do know is last night I got to watch a lot of different women be drafted into the WNBA fire.
Charlamagne Tha God
A lot of different women be drafted. Touchdown. I'm sorry.
Angela Yee
One name. Let's get one name.
Charlamagne Tha God
That was the WNBA draft. That's what's supposed to happen. Women are supposed to get.
Angela Yee
Give me one.
Charlamagne Tha God
Just.
Angela Yee
Just give us one woman.
Charlamagne Tha God
And the late
Lauren LaRosa
Johnson. I saw everybody. I reposted video to the Breakfast Club and to my Instagram number one. How you say her name?
DJ Envy
Oh my goodness.
Lauren LaRosa
I don't know how you say her name.
Charlamagne Tha God
Setting yourself up for you.
Lauren LaRosa
She's from you, right? She went to Connecticut. Did she get drafted on the same team as her girlfriend?
DJ Envy
Yes.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Angela Yee
Period.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't know if Paige is her girlfriend. I have no idea. But Raven Johnson and Tania Lasson will be joining us in the 8am hour. And mind you, I told y', all, we. We talked to you him yesterday before the draft.
DJ Envy
Absolutely.
Lauren LaRosa
And they look good last night too.
DJ Envy
That's. That's what you would say. They look good.
Lauren LaRosa
They were excited about that hair. Didn't.
DJ Envy
Absolutely. Well, congratulations to them. That was halfway latest with Lauren.
Lauren LaRosa
Oh, my God.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't know what that.
Lauren LaRosa
Y' all are annoying.
DJ Envy
When we come back, we got front page news. Mimi's here. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's DJ almost 50, right?
DJ Envy
I know, but I figured she would know that.
Charlamagne Tha God
I pointed. 1978.
DJ Envy
But she's gonna talk about him. I figured she would know the members.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, she wouldn't even care if they wasn't inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame.
Angela Yee
Shut up. It's always a moment for. Just teach somebody. Stop being mad ass uncs all the time. Just teach somebody. The members of the Wu Tang if they don't know?
Charlamagne Tha God
What's the point of teaching when y' all don't want to learn nothing? Especially you.
Angela Yee
Oh, me?
Caller
I know
Charlamagne Tha God
a million things and she still ain't gonna grasp the concept.
Angela Yee
Shut up.
DJ Envy
All right, well, let's get in some front page news. Like Lauren just said. We gotta congratulate Azzy Fudge. She is going to the Dallas wings. She's from UConn. She was drafted number one.
Angela Yee
And also congratulations.
DJ Envy
Our homie Flo J. She. She got drafted. Johnson. She got drafted to Golden State and then she was traded to Seattle, so.
Charlamagne Tha God
And drop on the clues Moms for South Carolina Gamecock. Raven Johnson, she went number 10 to the Indiana Fever.
DJ Envy
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
And T' Niia Ladson got drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks. They'll both be joining us with 20th next album.
DJ Envy
That's right.
Charlamagne Tha God
Good morning, Mimi.
Mimi Brown
Good morning, Envy. Jess, Charlamagne. How y' all doing this morning?
Charlamagne Tha God
Blessed, black and hot favorite. How are you, Miriam?
DJ Envy
Y' all listen to Wu Tang in Alaska, right?
Brianna Stewart
Yes.
Mimi Brown
Okay.
DJ Envy
I'm just joking. I'm out here.
Charlamagne Tha God
Sorry.
Mimi Brown
Go ahead.
DJ Envy
I'm sorry.
Brianna Stewart
Go ahead.
Mimi Brown
Don't ask me to name them, please. Okay.
Angela Yee
All right.
Mimi Brown
So we start this album with new details in the death of that us. That young lady, she was a US influencer from the usa and she died overseas. Her death is now under investigation and it's raising serious questions. So 31 year old Ashley Janay, whose real name is Ashley Robinson, she was found unresponsive in her luxury villa at a luxury hotel in Tanzania. She was later pronounced dead. She was on the train trip celebrating her birthday with her boyfriend, Joe McCann, who had recently proposed. But what was supposed to be a celebration is now at the center of a growing and complicated investigation. Authorities say before her death, the couple, they had a major argument at the resort. It was so serious that staff had to step in, separate them and place them in different rooms. And at one point, the staff, they were concerned enough about her well being that authorities were contacted. And shortly after Robinson, she was found unconscious in her villa and rushed to the hospital where she later died. Early reports from local officials, they suggest her death may have been a suicide with claims that she was found hanging from a door. Yeah. That narrative, though, is now being questioned. Her parents, they're speaking out and they're saying that there is no official cause of death. That has been confirmed. And they are actively working with authorities and the US Embassy to piece together exactly what happened. And they say that they've received limited information from the boyfriend. Let's listen.
Lauren LaRosa
She was a light. She was a beautiful person. And this doesn't align with who she is.
Portia Williams
I was initially contacted by him to
Lauren LaRosa
let me know that something had occurred and that she was in the hospital.
Brianna Stewart
But it was very limited communication and
Lauren LaRosa
not with a lot of detail. I asked him, you know, when it happened and where it happened, and he
Portia Williams
told me that it had occurred, something had occurred. Eleven hours prior to when he was
Lauren LaRosa
reaching out to me.
DJ Envy
We found out that our daughter had passed from the hotel. The fiance did not reach out to us at all.
Angela Yee
Oh, wow.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is he back in America?
Mimi Brown
Well, that's the thing. People have been trying to contact him. No one, they're saying that he hasn't responded. The parents say there's been limited contact with him. So no one knows as of yet right now if he's back in the USA or not. She is still there. And so the parents, they said that they're, they're working to, to get to her in Africa right now.
DJ Envy
How are they so quick to say it was suicide? Because it seems like they're still investigating.
Mimi Brown
They saw a mark on her neck and the mark on her neck led to, you know, the rumors of her being, you know, hanged.
Angela Yee
But what if they. But, but they also said that they had reports of people saying that they had, you know, arguments and they were separated, worried about her well being. So how could they.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Angela Yee
Quickly just rule it a suicide?
Mimi Brown
Exactly. And so the father, actually, he was on TMZ yesterday and he was disputing that. Just he was saying, you know, there's been no confirmed reports, you know, as far as they're concerned, that that is exactly what happened.
DJ Envy
And so, so damn sad.
Mimi Brown
It's very, very sad.
Charlamagne Tha God
Where did the story come from that she hung herself?
Mimi Brown
Well, they saw the mark on her neck and, and the report, the authorities in Tanzania were reporting that. That that's what happened.
Angela Yee
Wow.
Mimi Brown
Yeah. So that's horrible.
Charlamagne Tha God
Sound like Joe McCann got some questions. Dance.
Mimi Brown
Well, yeah. And so while there is growing speculation online, including questions surrounding her fiance, he's not been charged or detained. So as of right now, there's no official findings linking him to her death.
DJ Envy
I mean, it all sounds weird, right? Somebody passes away, you tell a mother 11 hours later.
Mimi Brown
Yeah.
Angela Yee
And then you don't even tell them that she is dead. The hotel tells them. And now we can't get in contact with.
Brianna Stewart
With you.
Mimi Brown
Yeah. It's so sad. It's a lot. It's. It's very, very sad. And switching gears a little bit, if you are booking a summer flight right now, pay attention to those bag fees because they are on the ride. So we talked about this a little bit ago. So what started with JetBlue and United is now spreading American, Delta, Alaska, Hawaiian and Southwest all raising their checked bag fees. These. So now you're looking at around 45 for your first bag, 55 for your second, and up to 200. Yes. If you are checking a third bag. Jess. And so here's the part to watch if you are going to do it early. So some airlines will let you pay on prepay online. So it'll be a little Bit cheaper. So before you get to the airport, it could cost you a little bit cheaper to do it online. But if you get to the airport and do it, it will charge you more. I think United is doing that. That. And I think JetBlue may be doing that. Double check that.
Angela Yee
But.
Mimi Brown
So, yeah. And it's not just flights, though. Shipping is going up, too. So Amazon is adding new fees for sellers. UPS, FedEx, even the Postal Service, they're raising their prices. And that is all due to the war rising.
Angela Yee
I've saw the shipping prices go up, but not Delta. You gotta pay for bags.
Mimi Brown
I know I said that just for envy because he had said Delta was
Lauren LaRosa
his favorite, but if you already like
Charlamagne Tha God
a gold member or something, you get a couple free, right?
DJ Envy
Diamond sir. I get three.
Angela Yee
Congratulations.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm just gold. I'm Mosaic. On Je. I'm.
DJ Envy
I'm not Mosaic.
Angela Yee
I'm Mosaic. Damn you.
Charlamagne Tha God
You get. You get a couple free bags if you.
DJ Envy
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think. Yeah, you get two or three if you're a gold. Platinum or three platinum.
Angela Yee
I mean, I'm sorry. Diamond, you get three. So that still applies.
Mimi Brown
That still applies. That still applies. That still applies.
DJ Envy
And I was. Yesterday, I. I flew to. Like I said earlier, I flew to New Orleans and back, and I was very nervous about, you know, spring break and everybody coming back, but we flowed through that airport fast. I don't know if TSA workers are getting paid again or are they back on duty, but it flowed so fast, they started getting paid.
Mimi Brown
Okay.
DJ Envy
And I see no ICE members in the airport. So it went through real fast.
Mimi Brown
Most of the ICE members have left certain airports. They got paid on April 10th. Whether they'll get paid again in two weeks, that's still what is up for debate.
DJ Envy
So salute to all the TSA agents. Yeah.
Mimi Brown
Thank you.
Charlamagne Tha God
How much more money do these airlines need, though, right? God damn. They already taking an arm and a leg. Like, how much more money do they be?
Angela Yee
Crazy.
Mimi Brown
Yeah, for sure. All right, y'.
Lauren LaRosa
All.
Mimi Brown
Well, that is your front page news. I'm Mimi Brown. Follow me at Mimi Brown tv For more stories, follow the Black Information Network.
DJ Envy
Thank you, Mimi.
Mimi Brown
Thank you.
Lauren LaRosa
Thank you, Mimi.
DJ Envy
All right, now, when we come back from Real Housewives of Atlanta, Portia Williams will be joining us. Capital P. We're gonna talk to her next, so don't go anywhere. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Lauren laros is here as well. We got a special guest in the building.
Lauren LaRosa
Building.
Charlamagne Tha God
Capital P. Portia Williams. Good morning.
Lauren LaRosa
Favorite people to interview.
Portia Williams
You said what?
Lauren LaRosa
One of my favorite people to talk to.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is she messy and she like mess?
Lauren LaRosa
No, because she. It just feels like I'm talking to my homegirl. It's always like we having drinks and just talking.
Portia Williams
Yes, like a homegirl who knows all your business.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Cause you do your research.
Portia Williams
I love that. No, I do.
Lauren LaRosa
I see you a lot.
Portia Williams
No, and I love that. Like it's nothing like when you're interviewing and someone knows like the backstory. I don't have to explain the whole thing. So.
Charlamagne Tha God
So what's the research today, Lauren? What have you dug up today?
Lauren LaRosa
Dug up? I mean. Well, I just finished episode two last night.
Raven Johnson
Me too.
Mimi Brown
Uh huh.
Lauren LaRosa
So when you're watching these Real Housewives of Atlanta episodes in real time, right. Does your emotion flare up after the episodes? Like, you know. Cause there'd be a lot of little things said and we'll get into the
Portia Williams
things I would say. You would think after this amount of time it wouldn't. But I think I'm still trying to get used to the fact that I took a break for so long. So being that I was gone for three years, it literally kind of feels like this is my second year doing the show because I just wasn't thinking about it and I tapped in. So like, yes. Watching the show, like last night, even first episode, I get emotional. Like why you say that or why was this said? I definitely do do that now more than I used to.
Lauren LaRosa
So you and Shamia, do y' all talk after these episodes air? Because after last night's episode, I'm like, like y' all are like trying to.
Portia Williams
What happened with us?
Lauren LaRosa
Well, I guess just the invite. So the first episode when she was invited to your house and she was trying to figure out whether the invite was real or not or the case may be. And then second, which was weird, I
Portia Williams
dropped it in a chat for everybody. Everybody came from a group chat. Invite.
Charlamagne Tha God
Invite to what?
Portia Williams
So I had a party at my house. I had a, like a couple's dinner or like, you know, just a girl refresh dinner. And I dropped the invite in the group chat. So it was. That's how everybody came. Nobody had a separate text.
Lauren LaRosa
But she felt like she wasn't for sure she should even come because of where y' all relationship is right now or whatever.
Charlamagne Tha God
You don't like her?
Portia Williams
I mean, I don't know what that has to do with me.
Lauren LaRosa
I just, I'm just wondering like after the ep, like that first episode airs, or even the fact that, I don't know, in the second episode, it just, like, not seeing y' all as, like, Batman Robin is just, like, so new for me. Even though I know.
Portia Williams
Well, I don't know why you would expect us to see us like Batman and Robin. Because from the ending of. Yeah, I mean, honestly, the ending of last year's reunion, it didn't look like it was gonna lead to us coming in, holding hands and, you know, fist bumping and chest bumping and all that. We not bosom buddies. But I, you know, at that time, I wished her well. I was cool. I am. You know, I've been doing this show for 10 years, and I am still not to the point where I wanna just exclude somebody.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay.
Portia Williams
You know what I'm saying? So I felt like, you know, it's a party, all the girls need to come. I wanted to, like, refresh, start the season with a good vibe with everybody. And so that's why I did.
Lauren LaRosa
And at the time, in this episode, in the season, you were the guy that was there. I forget his name.
Portia Williams
Mike.
Lauren LaRosa
Mike, yeah. Okay. And they had a lot to say about the fact that you had to party and what was before Simon in your house. And then Mike is there now, and a ghost assignment pops up. Production got you, okay?
Portia Williams
No, they got him.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay.
Portia Williams
Okay. Cuz they acting like that man is dead. He's just not in the United States. He's not dead.
Lauren LaRosa
So Charlemagne's a little lost, so they were at a table having dinner, and she's there with her boot at the time.
Portia Williams
African. Well, he has African descent. We all do, ain't we?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah. Oh, Lord. What are you saying?
Portia Williams
I got African in me, too.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right, 97.
Lauren LaRosa
But production had. Because the girls kept talking about how they thought it was so crazy that she was having a party in the house with a new person she was dating. But that used to be her and Simon's house, right?
Portia Williams
Which is weird too, right?
Charlamagne Tha God
Because, well, it's your house now.
Portia Williams
It's. Yeah, my house now.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's my house.
Portia Williams
You know, like, at the end of the day, you know, you go to court, you know, and they make a judgment, and I was awarded the home. I pay every single bill. The water bill, the sanitation bill, the yard, everything. So it's my home. I think that is a way to show jealousy. To continuously bring up, like, my ex husband in a new world that I have. Like, I think that's just a way to just take shit and really kind of belittled me as the boss, that I am a woman who actually stood her ground. A woman who actually, you know, did her due diligence with my prenup and got something out of it. You know, Kayla didn't get anything. So I think, unfortunately, there's a little bit of jealousy there.
Charlamagne Tha God
And once you sage the house, you good, you sage the house. Get all the old stuff out.
Lauren LaRosa
You said it was a little awkward, though.
Angela Yee
What.
Lauren LaRosa
What you had mentioned at one of the confessionals. They had you, and you was like. I mean, it was a little awkward. I don't remember what you were calling awkward. It was something about the house and being in the house, you know, with everything.
Portia Williams
Never that I would have probably talking about with Mike.
Raven Johnson
Yeah.
Portia Williams
Cause we were still new. Like, that was really our first date after have seen each other in, like, a very long time.
Lauren LaRosa
So, like, your first date after seeing each other a long time is on Real Housewives of.
Portia Williams
Yeah. So he and I used to be a situationship. Like, we were cool.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay. So.
Portia Williams
And yeah. And so then my sister was like, look, if you're gonna start dating, you know, you should just be honest and say, you know, you're gonna date this person and date that person. So I was like, looking back, I was like, you know what? Mike is a really good guy. Let me see if maybe there's something there. So that's how that ended up happening. So I had the dinner and, you
Lauren LaRosa
know, gave him all that because they asked him, how'd y' all meet? He said, through God.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's nice.
Portia Williams
That man said, God sent me to him. Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
What do you say to all your male fans who are upset that you are out with a woman, though?
Portia Williams
Who are my male fans that are
Charlamagne Tha God
mad you got mad male fans.
Portia Williams
They were gonna get me.
Charlamagne Tha God
No way.
Portia Williams
Stop it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Capital P. These guys be on you.
Portia Williams
Them guys wasn't gonna get me. No way. Like, fantasy like these.
Charlamagne Tha God
Listen, these young boys around here, hiding now, but they. They trust me. When you walking by through this hallway, they like, oh, my God, Portia, Portia. What?
Portia Williams
You can still admire me. I'm still admirable and desirable, but I do belong to someone else right now.
Lauren LaRosa
At what point in the season does it change and we get to see that? Like, what episode end do we see you get away from dating and being serious in the relationship you're in right now?
Portia Williams
Oh, it took some time. Like, the whole point of dating for me is true. Y' all know, I come up in here. I think I've come parent twice, announcing two Husbands to y'. All. So at this point, you know, it's
Charlamagne Tha God
like, I don't remember two husbands.
Portia Williams
Yeah, I came in with the first husband. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. She be collecting rings. But I'm slowing down. I'm slowing down the pace. And so what you're seeing, especially the Bachelorette on Housewives, like, I am just dating. It's real surface. I'm being admired, you know, after going through a really, really rough divorce, y' all all know about, from like a year and a half, it was a lot. So, you know, for me, when I decided to step out, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I think that a lot of people are, of course, dating, but they're not on a reality show and showing it. I actually am.
Charlamagne Tha God
Do you even care about labels like lesbian or bisexual? Or do you feel like people are just too obsessed with putting you in a box?
Portia Williams
So I. So when I first, I don't know, announced that I was dating her or that she was, you know, one of the options. Yeah. At first I was kind of like, okay, you know, everyone's, are you a lesbian? Are you bisexual? Are you? And I was like, I don't have a label. Like, I'm just Portia sexual. I'm just exploring.
Raven Johnson
I am.
Portia Williams
I'm Portia sexual. You know, now I'm sway sexual. You know, I am just very, you know, I'm just very free with myself and exploring different parts of myself.
Mimi Brown
Yeah.
Portia Williams
At this moment, no. I don't mind if you want to call me a lesbian. I don't mind if, you know, bisexual is a phrase, but I don't know what comes with that. I'm, you know, kind of new with all that, but I'm not offended by it at all.
Charlamagne Tha God
Do you feel pressure to define your sexuality now? That the public might be watching? Because we see it on social media, but it's a difference when it hits the tv.
Portia Williams
Yeah, that's true. I think that a lot of people probably feel pressured to label me. I don't feel pressured to label myself. I know who I am, and I'm just living my life. And I think that if more people just decided to live their life and not trying to find a group or define themselves in a certain way, you know, then, you know, that's probably best. I don't want to be out here putting myself in a box and then. And, you know, I don't need to be in that box.
Charlamagne Tha God
But you're in the box. That's why they're labeling You.
Portia Williams
There are boxes around.
Lauren LaRosa
Well, y' all be outside.
Portia Williams
I know he going somewhere with this box. Let's get away from the box. Just come out the box.
Lauren LaRosa
That was done, too.
Charlamagne Tha God
He reads for me to walk him
Portia Williams
right on into it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, my God.
Portia Williams
The cat is out the box.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay, There you go.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay. Okay.
Lauren LaRosa
Can I ask you a question? If you don't want to answer.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's the whole point of the interview.
Lauren LaRosa
No, because it's really personal about, like, you know, dating. Cause I heard you say to Angie Martinez is that this is your first time actually dating a woman. You've just been kind of, like, curious before, right? Yeah. What is the. Is there an actual difference in, like, the fe. Like, what is the difference between dating a woman and dating a man? Like, what. What's different? Like, why does it.
Portia Williams
Yeah, it's a. It's a good question. She has an experience. Have you ever experienced dating a woman or a woman experience?
Lauren LaRosa
I've never been with a woman before.
Portia Williams
Oh, okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
I thought one of y'.
Lauren LaRosa
All.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, no, that was Jeff.
Portia Williams
Not one of y'.
DJ Envy
All.
Lauren LaRosa
Just both of us. It's the same person, right?
Portia Williams
You in that chair.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, exactly.
Portia Williams
That's one of y'.
Brianna Stewart
All.
Portia Williams
But yeah, that's not a bad question because of course, at this point, I'm now have dated both.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Portia Williams
You know what I find with Sway is I feel very comfort. I feel very comforted. I feel very seen, very patient. I don't have to do too much explaining. We communicate a lot. Like, we talk about our past and who we are a lot. And so I. I just feel like I'm really, really, truly getting a chance to get to know her. Now that may also be because we're going very slow. And of course, in the past, you guys know, in the three months. I'm ready. A three month rule. Where is my. You know. But in this case, I am definitely taking my time with her, and it's just very soft. And of course, I have always been attracted to women, so I get both of those. I get, you know, the feminine side of her, and I enjoy the masculine side of her.
Charlamagne Tha God
Care of her.
Portia Williams
The duality is amazing.
Charlamagne Tha God
You said you had a three month rule that you wanted.
Portia Williams
No, not a three month rule. Let me not.
Lauren LaRosa
Here we go.
Angela Yee
No, no, no.
Portia Williams
But usually, usually both of my marriages, they took off pretty quickly. Even my engagement took off pretty quickly. But, you know, you got to learn from some of those mistakes. And I mean, I'm 44. I'll be 45 this year. So I. You Know, I definitely have come to a place I know exactly who I am. And I think that is probably what has everybody so curious about this lesbian possible, you know, bisexual, et cetera. Because I know who I am and maybe they want to put a definition on me. But as long as I know and I'm confident and I feel comfortable. We only have one life experience. I am living mine to the absolute fullest.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know, looking back at your past relationships with men, right. Do you see patterns that made you open to something different?
Portia Williams
You mean that led me towards where I am now? No, I don't. No, absolutely not. No. I would never say that a man pushed me to go be gay. I actually think that it is takes away from my experience completely because I did date both the man and her at the same time.
Angela Yee
Right.
Portia Williams
It's just that's who I'm attracted to. That's just where I wanted to put my focus into. And that's what you're doing dating, right? You're going to date and then you're going to see exactly where you can see growth. And I saw more growth in a relationship with her than I did with him.
Mimi Brown
It was so.
Charlamagne Tha God
It was never like a small penis that was so small. It was a. You like.
Portia Williams
I mean a lot of men just don't have a lot of situ things going on for themselves over 40. Anyway, people got to start taking care of themselves. They do. You know, people have to. Women too. We all hormonal walking around here. Perimenopausal men walking around and you know, having issues with their penis. Yeah, they're having situations, so. But I'm not that type of person. I'm very much into how you make me feel, how I make you feel, how our energies connect. So it, it's not all based off of the pain. I don't miss it. I'm okay.
Lauren LaRosa
And is all your family all on one accord about it now? You mentioned before some people were like side eyed in the situation a little bit. Me not on. I thought you said that on with Angie Martinez that things are a bit.
Portia Williams
No, never. No, not with my family. Not with my family. We have actually done every single. We were talking about that the other day. We've done almost all the holidays together and with our family, we just got back just now from going to taking my family, my grandmother, grandmother, auntie, everybody, her family, her mom, her sister, everybody to Miami. So we spend a lot of time with our families combined. So yeah, we, we just enjoying life. It's kind of like you. I'm with someone now I can do all the things. I gotta place all this love I have in me. I feel safe giving it to her.
Charlamagne Tha God
Wow.
Portia Williams
I do. I. I feel safe.
Charlamagne Tha God
So is this the healthiest relationship you've ever been in?
Portia Williams
I. I think that I am probably the healthiest because I am very accountable. I mean, if I do something, I think I also played a part. I can't say that those other relationships weren't healthy or toxic just because of them. I played a freaking part. But in this one, I do check myself a lot, and she checks herself, and we check each other. You know what I mean? But we come back around in a very loving way. So we're still in the very beginning phases of the relationship. But I do think that I am actually acting more healthy in this relationship.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is this the safest you felt in a relationship?
Portia Williams
I would say in what I know I want and what I'm willing to pursue, yes, because there's no pressure. I think I had always, from the very, very beginning, put pressure on myself to be a wife. I grew up very religious, and, you know, I just saw myself as the wife. Wife is the pinnacle role. You know, I was a business owner. I, you know, had my own penthouse. I was a boss and had my businesses. But to be married, I let all that go just to be a wife. And that label meant more to me than anything. But now, being Portia, the most honest and truthful stance that I can be in as a person is where I feel most comfortable. So I don't feel the need to be labeled or anything. I want to be the best me and present that to her and to my daughter and to the world, like, so. I don't know. It's feeling safe. I feel safe. Safety starts here with me. I think a lot of where I thought I wasn't safe, safe had to be me making wrong decisions because I didn't trust myself. I was trusting what someone else wanted for me. But I know me. I know what I want, and I'm. And anything that doesn't feel right, I'm going to say it, or I'm going to be out of that position.
Lauren LaRosa
Are you guys having marriage conversations or you're not even introducing that yet because you want to do this differently.
Portia Williams
Very slow girl. You cannot be out here. You know, I. And I can say this now. You know, it's almost. Do as I say, not as I have done. Okay. That, yes. You talk about and you love someone, you're automatically, you know, we're girls. What did they say? Everybody says, oh, the. The gay girls, they move real fast. Yes, you. I'm telling you, when you feel this kind of love, it's like, oh, my God, let's get a house. But you gotta come back down to reality and, you know, just take it at a healthier pace. So. So that's what I'm doing.
Charlamagne Tha God
How you know this ain't a phase, though. Your diet might change.
Portia Williams
Yeah, well, my diet changed on men, too. And then I divorced them when they were not good for me. It's. What. So your diet can change with anything, you know what I'm saying? And hers could change for me, too. You never know the future. It's so funny. People be under my post, like, we'll see how long this lasts. Well, we'll see how long anybody's relationships last. A lot of people are getting divorces. A lot of people are whatever. I don't know why it seems like I'm, like, the first person to be gay now. And I'm like, I'm not the first. It's 2026. But I think because people have known. Known me so long on television, I think when they did see me with a woman, they thought, oh, she's just being freaky. It's something small. And I think now they're saying, oh, this is really who she is, and she's exploring it. So maybe people will learn that these girls who are on the down low and. And men who are possibly on the down low, go ahead and live your life, child. Don't worry about anybody judging you.
Raven Johnson
You.
Portia Williams
This is your one life experience.
Lauren LaRosa
You're so happy right now.
Portia Williams
I do.
Charlamagne Tha God
Are you in love?
Portia Williams
I. I am.
Charlamagne Tha God
What's the difference between Porsche, the person in love, and Porsche, I guess the brand that's navigating these headlines in this reality TV world?
Portia Williams
Well, I tell you what, I'm definitely having to try to. Portia in love used to be mainly just focusing on that person and centering them in my world across the board. Right? Discounting me. It's all about, I'm now in a relationship. This is me, Portia. Now I'm very much in love with me. Like, I love me. Like, I don't know what it is, but coming up on 45, it's like, damn, Like. Like, I just love me. Like, I. I love my mind. I love where I'm at.
Charlamagne Tha God
Portia licked herself. Just now.
Portia Williams
I loved up over there.
Charlamagne Tha God
Brandon went crazy.
Portia Williams
Do it again. Lick your other hand. No, Like, I do. And I think that, you know, this new appreciation for myself and, you know, I used to celebrate myself a lot. I really didn't. My manager actually had to stop me and say, portia, you never, ever celebrate yourself. Like, did you hear what I just said? She'll call me with good news. And I'm like, okay, what'd you say was next? I. Now I celebrate every little thing. I don't care if it's just like, I got up and got PJ to school on time and got to the gym that day. I'm celebrating brain, that when you do that and start to talk really positive to yourself on a daily basis, you do fall in love with the person you're speaking about. But I used to speak so negatively about myself. I didn't really like myself. So I will only see myself through someone else's eyes. And if they liked me, right? But now I know if you. When she tells me she loved me, I know you love me. I know you love me. I'm lovable, right? I know you appreciate me, because I appreciate. And what's beautiful about this relationship, too, in any relationship that I think is healthy is if she. If that other person also loves themselves. Listen, I mean, her family would probably describe her the same way as me. We are very wrapped up in us. We love us, we take care of us, and we invest in ourselves. And so that's just a power that's coming together. So me as a brand now, being in love, I truly spread that through everything. Like, I am exploring more with Go Naked.
Charlamagne Tha God
Hair, you know, just surpassed 10 million in sales.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes.
Portia Williams
Yes, we did just surpassed $10 million in sales with Go Naked. We also just launched a line with Drew Sidor. She has a wig line with me as well. Cynthia Bailey has a wig line with me as well. I'm working on doing some more with some of the other housewives on Go Naked. You just put more into everything else.
Lauren LaRosa
Right?
Portia Williams
You know, and so even with Pampered by Portia, like, I. I just feel like I'm able. Once my cup is full, I can just pour a little bit here, pour a little bit kind of everywhere.
Charlamagne Tha God
So you're getting a lot of money, though. Well, you're doing very well.
Lauren LaRosa
I'm happy for you, though, because I feel like reality TV in 2026, like, it gets diluted sometimes, but, like, you. Your genre and your, like, your generation of reality tv, like, what's your grandfather?
Charlamagne Tha God
Then?
Lauren LaRosa
Y' all did it. Yeah, like, y' all did it the right way where, like, your brand will always sustain like. Like, normal matter. Who's watching how Old or whatever. But when you're welcome, when your daughter looks back at this, like, era of your life, right, what do you want her to be able to take away as a woman?
Portia Williams
I want my daughter. And I think about that a lot, you know, because even when I left the show and I came back, I knew, okay, now I'm presenting myself again and she's getting bigger, etc. She just turned 7 years old and I can already see her personality. She's a very strong person, strong minded, she knows what she wants and she's going to be very powerful. I just want her to embody that all through her life. Just know you are powerful, you are worthy, you can do anything you want to do. It doesn't matter what you go through. She's going to grow up and see mommy has been through a lot, right? You know, but most of all, she's going to see that mommy has fought
Lauren LaRosa
for who she is.
Portia Williams
I have fought for my place in this industry. I have fought for my place place in my mental health as a beautiful, strong person. I fought for that. I've just fought for so many different things and I feel like resilience is most important. But if she could just learn this one thing, if she could just have joy, if she could just really, truly be happy in her life and do what she is h what makes her happy, then I'll be good. Because I think even though you did say I make a lot of money and I do a lot of things, none of them take from my happiness. Once they start taking from my happiness, they will drop off. So if she can live that life of just being happy and being able to be positive and give that out in her world, then I'm be good. I'm be happy.
Lauren LaRosa
That's so simple.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay, capital P, y'. All. Portia Williams, go get you some Go naked hair. What's the website?
Portia Williams
Gonakedhair.com and pamperedbyporsha.com.
Charlamagne Tha God
that's the bed sheets and all of that good stuff.
Portia Williams
Oh, and I have a TikTok Live coming coming up. August 5th. Not August. Lord have mercy. I have a Tick Tock Live coming up. Tick Tock Shop Live. That's coming up. It's on the 15th of this month, April. And Cynthia's gonna be on there with me. A lot of surprises and we're gonna be doing some crazy sales. So my Tick Tock name is PJ Mama. And. Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
And what wig did Lauren. You said Lauren needed a wig. What wig did you?
Lauren LaRosa
I got a wavy one. But it was right before I cut my hair.
Charlamagne Tha God
You need some short.
Portia Williams
So you cut your hair for real?
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, yeah, this is my real hair. It was breaking off, so I just in here stressed out, so I just cut it so pretty.
Portia Williams
I did not even think that was your hair. Because I like, I will do a pixie little wig or whatever.
Lauren LaRosa
No, I cut it, I was like, I just want to start fresh. And I was supposed to grow it out and then I was like, I like the short.
Portia Williams
No, I like it like it gives
Lauren LaRosa
it a little, you know.
Raven Johnson
Yeah.
Portia Williams
And you can do a little one, two wig like on a weekend or vacay.
Charlamagne Tha God
But she sent you some already.
Lauren LaRosa
I did, I have it. It's like, it's so. It's not.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't know.
Lauren LaRosa
One time, Daniel. No, I didn't literally when once I. Once he finally gave it to. To me.
Portia Williams
Why you upon it you up?
Lauren LaRosa
I put it on myself in here. And then I think like that weekend I got my haircut.
Portia Williams
Oh, okay.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay. Yeah, so I never got a chance. But I still have it though. Okay, well, when you get ready, fire too. Yeah, Lace, fire too.
Portia Williams
Okay, well, if you want some more, just let me know. I got you.
Charlamagne Tha God
I got that to plug your wig line.
Lauren LaRosa
You know, I appreciate Charlotte may be need. You know, he, he does. He dresses up sometimes.
Portia Williams
That's why I say he planning a wig.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
How do I dress up?
Lauren LaRosa
You put on wigs and stuff.
Charlamagne Tha God
I want to put on the wigs. Her boyfriend got hit.
Portia Williams
Ashley, continue. You got a boyfriend?
Lauren LaRosa
Love of my life, I meant to ask.
Portia Williams
Now you're in a relationship. Yeah, I thought you were.
Charlamagne Tha God
She used to be two low. So she cut one of the dudes off. Now she got one dude.
Portia Williams
Ain't nothing wrong with that. You ain't wrong.
Charlamagne Tha God
She been out the country a few times already.
Lauren LaRosa
You're going to come to the podcast for.
Charlamagne Tha God
Listen, I'm talking to Por. She's been out the country a few times already with the guy. First time she went out the country, the guy just asked her to be his girlfriend. They wasn't even girlfriend. So she, he put up, you know, will you be my girlfriend?
Portia Williams
He did a whole thing.
Lauren LaRosa
It was a whole thing. It was so adorable. It was my birthday too.
Portia Williams
Oh, I love that.
Charlamagne Tha God
I've been out the country a couple more times. He ain't proposed yet.
Portia Williams
We ain't asking him to propose. We ain't rushing that.
Lauren LaRosa
Oh, I'm not rushing.
Charlamagne Tha God
She told me this morning she been out the country with mad different dudes.
Lauren LaRosa
I Did not say it like it
Charlamagne Tha God
was a flex, but I'm like, you ain't getting no ring.
Angela Yee
I'm grown.
Portia Williams
How long?
Angela Yee
It's while been a.
Lauren LaRosa
About a year. Like a year that we've been dating
Portia Williams
this time, actually, we do need that.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
DJ Envy
You know what?
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right. How long was y d before y' all was actually official? You had two guys.
Lauren LaRosa
I combined it because November was my birthday. That's when the whole will you be my. You know, that whole situation.
Portia Williams
November election.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay, yeah. So now we're here. This is April, Okay?
Portia Williams
It's coming, it's coming, it's coming. So we got a holiday coming up, we got November, maybe this November.
Lauren LaRosa
We've been very clear. I've been very clear about what I expect.
Portia Williams
Oh, that's romantic.
Charlamagne Tha God
If he ain't going to do the Italy, he ain't going to do it.
Lauren LaRosa
It was his birthday, we went for his birthday.
Portia Williams
Oh, but he's spoiling her. And look at her, she's smiling, having
Lauren LaRosa
a good time with someone who actually knows what. He wanted me to come back to it from Italy with a ring and a baby. I barely be hanging on in here.
Portia Williams
Well, I would love that for you, though.
Lauren LaRosa
It's going to happen. I'm not worried about 34.
Portia Williams
Oh, my gosh, She's a baby girl.
Caller
Slow down.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, she said she was 34.
Charlamagne Tha God
Only 34.
Lauren LaRosa
This is the thing I feel like in this relationship, when you got your
Portia Williams
first ring, Porsche 30.
Charlamagne Tha God
See what I'm saying? Champion.
Lauren LaRosa
That was second one in the.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Portia Williams
I said don't do as I do. Do as I say. Okay.
Lauren LaRosa
The rings were all great, you know, it was great to watch you, but
Portia Williams
I don't even care what the ring like, looks look like. I really wouldn't.
Lauren LaRosa
Well, that's because you've had a lot of good ones.
Portia Williams
Yeah, I don't care.
Lauren LaRosa
I want a nice one. No.
Portia Williams
Yeah, you need to have a banger.
Lauren LaRosa
Oh, yeah.
Portia Williams
Well, all that, you deserve it.
Lauren LaRosa
It's coming. I doubt it, but yeah, it's coming.
Portia Williams
Not past 35. Because, you know, we women, you know, we gotta start having kids and all that, so. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, maybe within this year, the end of this year or next year, he should do it.
Lauren LaRosa
It'll happen this year.
Charlamagne Tha God
I doubt it. I doubt it.
Lauren LaRosa
What, you want it?
Raven Johnson
You want a bet?
Lauren LaRosa
You want something on it?
Charlamagne Tha God
No, I don't doubt it, but. Por Williams, thank you for joining.
Angela Yee
Thank you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Capital P, it's the Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy
Let's get to the Latest with Lauren,
Charlamagne Tha God
your Talk, LL Cool B. Yeah, I'm
Lauren LaRosa
not dumbing myself down. I'm being myself. I'm the home girl that knows a little bit about everything and everything. Little brown girls look at you and go, I want to be like you.
Portia Williams
Take me through that. Take me through that.
Angela Yee
She gone.
Charlamagne Tha God
The latest with l' on the Breakfast Club. LL talk to me.
Lauren LaRosa
So yesterday, Little John announced that he will be dropping his book, his memoir.
Charlamagne Tha God
Wow.
Angela Yee
Amazing.
Lauren LaRosa
Coming out via Black Privilege Publishing.
Charlamagne Tha God
Drop on the clues bomb for Little John.
DJ Envy
Wow.
Lauren LaRosa
Why don't you be telling us you be doing all this stuff? It popped up on my timeline. I texted and was like, congratulations, you've been on a run. Yes, you did. So Little John's book is called I only shout so you can hear me. It'll be coming out October 20, 2026. And in the caption, Little John says for more than three years, him and the writer Paul Cantor have been working on this memoir. And he says he's really excited to finally share it with the world. He says, I started this journey to reflect on my life, tell my story, and look back on the accomplishments of myths and experiences that have defined me. But along the way, the process reveals so much more. Truths came to light, secrets were uncovered, and I was forced to face the heartbreaking reality of my son's recent passing. This book is my truth, my journey, and my testimony, and I hope it resonates deeply with readers everywhere. He mentions that the link. Yeah, the link for the book is in his bio. And I went to Paul Cantor's page, who is the writer that he mentions. And Paul Cantor had wrote a caption, and in the caption, he says that initially, as the writer of the book and getting involved, it was Little John's son Nate who encouraged Little John to work with Paul to do the book. So, yeah, it's gonna be really special.
Charlamagne Tha God
Little John deserves it all, man. Cultural icon who provided the soundtrack to our lives when we was outside still provides the soundtrack for us in our gym. And this man is, you know, reinvented himself so many different times. And when you see him now, like, you see him in the gym and you see him physically in shape. Yeah, that's because he mentally and emotionally, emotionally, you know, got in shape. So salute to Little John.
DJ Envy
Yeah, salute to Little John.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, for y' all to read his story.
Lauren LaRosa
And also, congratulations. I saw Arsenio, Arsenio Hall. His book made the New York Times bestsellers Listening. Another black privilege publishing book. That word, those words be eating me up.
Angela Yee
Book is Amazing. I know it is. Yo, I've been seeing that book everywhere. In every airport, every bookstore, everywhere. So yes, yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's the 70s years old. He's an OG. He never talks. He's never told his story. So you know, now that you put your memoir out, everybody wants to talk to you. So he's been everywhere from Stephen Colbert to Joe Rogan to the View to the Breakfast Club. Like he's, he's. He's done it all.
DJ Envy
I seen him sway yesterday.
Charlamagne Tha God
He did sway. That's right. Salute to sway.
Angela Yee
Yes, yes, yes.
Lauren LaRosa
Congratulations to read it too.
Charlamagne Tha God
And he's so intentional about what he does. Like you. You. You can't just get Arsenio hall to do something like. Trust me when I tell you. So I'm glad that he decided to write his memoir.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
And I'm blessed that I was able to publish it. And Little John on the way.
Lauren LaRosa
Is it okay to tell you congratulations for that? Why did you ignore me?
Charlamagne Tha God
It's not about me.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay, well, my book is on the
Angela Yee
way to your 428, so. Death do we parent. Also on Black Privilege Publishing. What's up? What's up? In rotation. What's going on?
Lauren LaRosa
Yep, I got my pre order, Jess.
Angela Yee
Lauren, please just go. Just move on.
Charlamagne Tha God
And other new moment. Your moment is coming, Jess.
Lauren LaRosa
It's all in other news, guys. So speaking of moments, J. Cole had a short lived moment because remember we talked about him going over to play for the Nanjing Monkey Kings.
DJ Envy
The what?
Lauren LaRosa
Nanjing Monkey.
Charlamagne Tha God
Why you call that man that? That man is half black and half white. You ain't had to call that man that.
Lauren LaRosa
Listen, that's so disrespectful. He went on over there.
Charlamagne Tha God
Disrespectful.
Lauren LaRosa
He went to go play in the Chinese Basketball association and it was very short lived the Nanjing Monkey Kings.
Charlamagne Tha God
So I'll fight a white person. They call me that. I swear to God. Good.
Lauren LaRosa
So it was. So it was announced on April 1. We talked about it here at the Breakfast Club. He made his debut on April 11 and now it is over. He is will no longer be playing because of some issues that he had with a visa. He says in his online blog that initially he was scheduled to play in at least three games games for the Nanjing Monkey Kings of the cba. But the work visa process took way longer than he expected. So he was only able to play in one game before he had to head back. Now during that one game against the Gangzu Loom Lions, his stats read zero points in one rebound, one assist in about eight minutes. So he didn't get a chance to play any more games. But you know, he's been on his blog reflecting on about I wonder what that bag was.
DJ Envy
I wonder what that bag was to shut down and go play three games in China.
Charlamagne Tha God
Did he play three?
Lauren LaRosa
No, he was supposed to play three.
DJ Envy
He signed to play three. I wonder what that was.
Charlamagne Tha God
So he. Oh, so he signed to play three. So he just. He, he quit and apologized to his fans.
Lauren LaRosa
He didn't apologize. He just wanted to explain why we. It wasn't happening because remember he was
Charlamagne Tha God
supposed to quit and he explained why he quit.
Lauren LaRosa
He didn't quit. He the visa process. Oh, he leave him alone. I see what you do I doing?
Charlamagne Tha God
What am I doing?
Lauren LaRosa
All right. Well, I will say envy to your question. Based on early reports, there were conversations about maybe him doing a year. But that was a two million dollar contract. But that was supposed to be like a year long situation and that didn't happen. So. But that's based on reports.
Charlamagne Tha God
So that's too long. He'll make more money doing shows.
Angela Yee
Yeah.
DJ Envy
Touring. That's what I was thinking. Maybe he get ownership of the team or a small percentage or something.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Angela Yee
Y know, we don't care about the money. He is so humble. He do not care. He will go over there and pay and play for free for the Monkey Kings.
Charlamagne Tha God
You can't be half white on a team called the Monkey Kings. You got to change the name if you, if you own the team. If you own that, if you get ownership of that team and you have white, you got to change the name. That's got to be number one.
Angela Yee
Mulatto Monkeys.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't like that either.
Lauren LaRosa
I don't know if he's supposed to put those words together.
Charlamagne Tha God
He said he's the Mulatto Kingdom.
Mimi Brown
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
I think you gotta respect this one. Mulatto. Yeah. Mulatto King.
Angela Yee
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't like that either though. But yeah, that's better than monkey.
DJ Envy
Jesus Christ. Okay, I'm just curious because how old is Jake off? 40 something. 40 years old. His knees gotta be. Yeah, yeah. He can't play a full season. He'll be in pain. He hasn't been training. Practice.
Lauren LaRosa
He's 41 years old. He's always riding.
DJ Envy
Not play a full season. A basketball.
Brianna Stewart
Yeah.
Angela Yee
Basketball is different. Not a bike.
DJ Envy
Basketball rebounds, assist, dribbling.
Charlamagne Tha God
He is always riding bikes. You right, Lauren. Lauren was right, Lauren.
Lauren LaRosa
I wasn't trying to be funny. No. I know people who work out and they do bike rides every morning. And it's I am done today. Okay? We'll come back in the next latest. We'll have some conversation about some things going down in Atlanta with King Harris.
DJ Envy
All right? We give you a doctor too, man.
Charlamagne Tha God
Listen, four after the hour is the reason I can't stop using the N word. His name is Isaiah Walker. We'll discuss.
DJ Envy
All right, we'll get to that. Next. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Angela Yee
Shalom, man.
DJ Envy
Say the gang.
Charlamagne Tha God
Dunkey, man. You are a donkey. It's time for Donkey of the day. Donkey of the day does not discriminate. I might not have the song of
DJ Envy
the day, but I got the donkey today.
Charlamagne Tha God
So if you ever feel I need to be a donkey man, hit it with the hero, the Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy
Who's donkey of the day today?
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, Ed Sheeran, Donkey of the day for Tuesday, April 14 goes to Isaiah Walker of Arizona. Now, let me tell you something. Donkey of the Day is therapeutic for me, okay? It's therapeutic for me because I like logic, all right? And we live in a world right now where nothing is logical. And this gives me a chance to just vent about it, all right? When I say things don't make sense, they don't make sense. I truly believe that in the future we are going to realize how all of this new technology, the way we consume information via the Internet, via social media, has completely ruined and sabotaged our neurological path pathways, okay? Completely disrupted our cognitive abilities in ways we don't understand. Okay? The way we think, the way we comprehend, the way we reason, the way we problem solve, the way we process information. We are going to find out how technology has made our cognitive abilities extremely low. Isaiah Walker is exhibit A for me in regards to this theory because Isaiah, who is 20 something years old, was released from a correctional facility. And as soon as he was released, he started thinking of what ways to go back. All right? See, when he got out of. Got out of jail, he spotted a commercial car hauler, okay, that was loaded with C8 Corvettes. What is the C8 Corvette? Envy you a car guy?
DJ Envy
It's a new Corvette that just came out, I think about two years ago. It's the newest model of the C8.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right? It was in that moment Isaiah decided he needed a ride. All right, let's go to Fox 10 Phoenix for the report, please.
Lauren LaRosa
Moving on this morning across Arizona, a
Portia Williams
suspect is behind bars in Cochise county
Lauren LaRosa
accused of stealing a semi truck full of high end sports cars.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, the suspect told deputies he stole the truck because he had just Gotten out of prison and he needed a ride home. 23 year old Isaiah Walker is accused of grabbing the semi truck driver at a truck stop near Wilcox and throwing him out of the cab. Deputy say Walker drove off with the semi carrying nearly a dozen Chevy Corvette C8s. The value, more than 1.25 million. Coach east deputy and one Wilcox police officer pulled over Walker for driving recklessly. He's now facing serious charges. And this is why they call you. Okay? I'm not gonna let my cortisol levels get high this morning. I'm just gonna bent, okay? Express what I'm feeling. $1.25 million in cars, right? In Corvettes. And Isaiah Walker's reasoning for stealing them was he just needed to get get home. He just needed a ride home. Let me tell you something, Isaiah. Home is where the heart is. And your heart is clearly in a correctional facility. Okay? We gonna stop acting like prison isn't the best place for some people. And if it's not where you want to be, then why do you keep doing things to be there, all right? This guy literally just walked out of a correctional facility. Just walked out of a prison. He said he just really needed to get home. So he decides to carjack a whole car. Hard hauler full of Corvettes. Now all you need is one car to get hope, okay? It doesn't even have to be yours. Never in the history of life have you called Uber, Lyft or any rideshare company and they sent you a truck full of cars. Okay, but this is what I'm telling you. When it comes to logic, that doesn't exist anymore. Not to mention he tried to get away. Police got behind him because the description was easy. Hey. Stolen symbol, semi truck, 10 brightly colored Chevrolet Corvettes on him. Sheriff deputies were on his ass in seconds and he refused to stop, swerving the hauler across lanes, forcing other drivers to have to drive off the road. And thank God he didn't hurt anybody. Okay? He eventually stopped, surrendered to law enforcement, and they took his ass home. And by home, I meant jail. Okay? The police asked him what exactly did he plan to do with 10 brand new Corvettes. And his answer was he had no interest in the cause whatsoever. He had just gotten out of prison, he had no way to get back to Oklahoma, and figured stealing a semi truck was a reasonable solution to his transportation problem. That was an exact quote. Jesus, if that sounds remotely logical to you, then do not pass go, do not collect 200. Just go straight to jail with Isaiah, okay? I would rather him Say, hey, man, I just got home. I'm not trying to get no job. I stole this truck. I got these cars, I'm gonna sell them to a child shop. But to say you did all that because you needed a ride home. Please give Isaiah Walker the sweet sounds of the Hamiltons.
DJ Envy
Yeah, he didn't think that that went through.
Charlamagne Tha God
See, I want to stop using the N word.
DJ Envy
Nope.
Charlamagne Tha God
And y' all want me to stop using the N word. But what am I supposed to say? When be okay? But I'm trying. But not for the reasons y' all want me to. I'm trying because I think, you know, N words are immune to that word. And I'm looking for something stronger. Okay. I was watching the great show that is absolutely in my DNA. You see, I got the T shirt on today, the boondocks. I was watching it over the break, and Uncle Ruckus reminded me as to why we shouldn't use the N word. It's anymore. And it's because we need something stronger. Can we hear it, please? No, I don't think we should use the word. And I'll tell you why. Because have gotten used to it, that's why. Hell, they like it. Now you gotta rotate your race of slugs.
DJ Envy
Now, I know it's hard cause just
Charlamagne Tha God
rolled out the tongue. The way sweat rolls off a nigga's forehead. But we cannot let that be a crutch. Especially when there are so many other fine substitutes. Spade, punch, monkey, jigaboo. I say next time you gonna call a darky a. Call that coon a jungle bunny and spin. Understand? I agree. Stupid spade, illogical jungle bunny. Yeah. Yeah.
DJ Envy
I don't like those.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't care what you like. You're Dominican. You black.
Angela Yee
I don't like what the dumbass boy did. What?
Charlamagne Tha God
So many questions.
DJ Envy
Yeah, like how are you going to hide? Like, were you going to hide? You going to try to drive all the way to Oklahoma?
Charlamagne Tha God
See, that's your problem. Y' all sitting around trying to figure out why do what they do.
DJ Envy
You too.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right. Okay. And that's why do what they do rhyme with jigaboo. See? Okay.
DJ Envy
All right. Well, thank you for that donkey today. Now, when we come back from the South Carolina Gamecocks, we have Raven Johnson and Tanaya Latson. They'll be joining us. They actually stopped through yesterday.
Charlamagne Tha God
They stopped through yesterday. Very important to say that right after they left the Empire State Building, they came over to chat with us here on the Breakfast Club. So it was before the draft. Raven Got drafted to the Indiana A Fever.
DJ Envy
Yep.
Charlamagne Tha God
And T. Lapson went to the Los Angeles Sparks.
DJ Envy
20th pick.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yep.
Angela Yee
Do you know that you're going to be drafted before? Like, did they know when they were sitting there talking to you guys yesterday?
DJ Envy
No, they don't know that they was
Charlamagne Tha God
going to get drafted.
DJ Envy
Well, they know they going to get drafted. They don't know what round, what pick.
Angela Yee
No, I'm saying where. Who are they? Like, do they know where they're going? I'm sorry. Not drafted. Do they know where they're going?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, you have projections, but predictions where
DJ Envy
they might go, but they don't necessarily 100% know.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, okay.
DJ Envy
All right.
Angela Yee
I don't know.
DJ Envy
Well, kick it with them neck. So don't go anywhere. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
Morning, everybody.
Lauren LaRosa
It's DJ Envy.
DJ Envy
Just hilarious. Charlemagne, the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Lauren laros is here as well. We got some special guests in the building from the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Charlamagne Tha God
Not just from the South Carolina Gamecocks, they got drafted last night. You know, I mean, they came to speak to us before they got drafted, but Raven Ladson's with the Indiana Fever. Tania Latson. I mean, Raven Johnson.
DJ Envy
Johnson.
Charlamagne Tha God
Raven Johnson is with the Indiana Fever. And Tonia Latson is with the Los Angeles Spark talks. Respectfully, good morning. How y' all feeling?
Portia Williams
Good.
Raven Johnson
Amazing.
Charlamagne Tha God
Nine days ago, y' all was competing for the national championship. Now y' all getting ready for the WNBA draft. How has that whirlwind been, man?
Raven Johnson
It's crazy. It's like a dream come true. You know, you dream of this moment and now you're here. So we're gonna see where the wind takes us today.
Charlamagne Tha God
But didn't it feel like y' all was just in college yesterday?
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. Yeah, Basically. Yes.
Brianna Stewart
Yeah. It's a quick turnaround. Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is it? Is, Is it? Do you. Do you have to adjust to, like, I guess that's being an adult now. Yeah. Cuz college don't be feeling like the real world, do it?
Brianna Stewart
Yeah. It's like closing one chapter and trying to, like, get into another one. Like, it's like a quick, quick turnaround.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah. What? What emotions are hitting you today, Tania Tanaya. God damn it. I'm sorry. I always say, T. That's why every time I see, I be like, what up, T?
DJ Envy
I'm sorry.
Brianna Stewart
I'm excited. I mean, it's a blessing. It's a dream come true.
Raven Johnson
Like, right.
Charlamagne Tha God
What about you, Raven?
Raven Johnson
Man, I'm. I'm happy, you know, you worked towards this moment, and now it's here to spend it with loved ones. And you know what team gets you. I'm ready. Whatever team gets you.
Charlamagne Tha God
All played in high school together, and then y' all reunited for y' all senior years at South Carolina. What was that reconnection like?
Brianna Stewart
It was just like a surreal moment. We didn't think we was going to play college basketball again together. Like, well, played together at all again. So being able to play in our last year together, it was fun. We had a lot of fun. You know, we dreamed of moments like this. So just to be able to do it with her, it means a lot.
Charlamagne Tha God
What about you, Riv?
Raven Johnson
When she hit the transfer portal, I was like, tania, let's redo this. You know how it is. I wanted to play with her. It just feels like, I don't know, like a dream come true. Like, in high school, I wanted to always, you know, I wanted to go to college with her, but that didn't happen. She went to Florida State and was very successful. I went to South Carolina, and I was successful, too. But, you know, God does things in a way to bring close ones back together, and it's no better feeling to just play with her the last season and do what we did.
Charlamagne Tha God
Honestly, what was that conversation like, y' all senior years in high school, and y' all decided to, I guess, not go to college together?
Brianna Stewart
Well, Raven, a year older than me, so she left and went off before I went off. So I moved back to Miami and played basketball in high school there. But, you know, I just wished her the best. I knew she was going to do great things, things, win championships. But she knew I was going to Florida State, too, and I just went to go make a name for myself.
Charlamagne Tha God
Did you ever consider South Carolina at all before Florida?
Brianna Stewart
Nah, I didn't.
Lauren LaRosa
I didn't.
Brianna Stewart
I did not consider South Carolina.
Charlamagne Tha God
Why? Just because you're from Florida? You.
Brianna Stewart
No, I just really wanted to do my own thing. I wanted to venture out. I wanted to make a name for myself, and it is. I am from Florida, so it's like, you know, hometown. But, yeah, I mean, they had everything that I need, I needed. And in order for me to be the best player that I could be.
Charlamagne Tha God
You didn't try to convince her?
Raven Johnson
Oh, I tried my. I tried my best, but we had, like, what, 16 players on the rosters then? Yeah, I was thinking of her, like, being successful, too, playing, and I know that's what she wanted. So I feel like, you know, what she committed to was a Great decision ended all right. She came to South Carolina when it was meant to be.
Charlamagne Tha God
Have you ever, Raven sat back and thought about all the adversity you had to go through, through, you know, everything you went through in college? But have you ever thought about what that freshman year was and even how you rebounded from that?
Raven Johnson
Yeah, I think about it all the time. It's crazy because we had, like, a little seminar and Tina Thompson was talking about adversity, and she brought me up.
Angela Yee
I'm like, again.
Raven Johnson
But, yeah, I think about it all the time. Like, I went through a lot. A lot of high with the highs, a lot of low with the lows, and just to be where I am today, it was hard to get through those phases, but I couldn't be here without loved ones or people that was in my ear supporting me, because that could have turned out another way. I could have quit. I could have just been a person that I probably, you know, wasn't even. People who didn't even know who I was, you know, they was like, you gained what, 20, 30 pounds?
Charlamagne Tha God
I thought it was 40.
Raven Johnson
Yeah, I ain't want to say that.
Charlamagne Tha God
What you mean? It's a story of resilience now. You actually should say 50. You should put it 40.
Raven Johnson
40, 50 pounds, I guess. I remember when Tanaya seen me, she's
Charlamagne Tha God
like, dang, that's a real friend, though. I never was like, that's a real friend.
Brianna Stewart
I mean, I had you to tell. Tell her, you know, but she did, you know, I was just happy that she got it off of her, you
Charlamagne Tha God
know, where y' all see each other?
Brianna Stewart
It's like, you looking a little big now.
Lauren LaRosa
She did now.
Charlamagne Tha God
She did.
Brianna Stewart
She did.
Raven Johnson
I'm snatched now. Snatch.
Brianna Stewart
Yeah, she snatched.
Charlamagne Tha God
Did that motivate you to get in shape when she said that to you, or you already had that motivation?
Raven Johnson
Yeah, no, I was trying to get back. Right. But I lost myself for a minute.
Brianna Stewart
But you.
Raven Johnson
Sometimes you got to go through those low, like the bottom lows to get to the high, to high, the high, the high highs, and to be successful, honestly. And I think I'm glad I went through diversity, honestly, because it made me mentally strong.
Charlamagne Tha God
But I'm sure it's some type of depression probably set in, right?
Raven Johnson
Oh, yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
Which caused you to gain the weight and stuff. Like, what? What was it? Because it was just an injury. It's not like you couldn't have bounced back from an injury. Like, what was it that really put you in that mode?
Raven Johnson
Social media. I mean, you know, with this generation Social media is. Could be a good and a bad thing. And I think, you know, if you live by social media, you gotta die by it, too. And I think, you know, I went viral on social media. Like, every. Every time you got on social media, you see Raven Johnson, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He just said in the third, and it wasn't for good reasons, for a bad reason. So, you know, I didn't want to go. I didn't want nobody to see me, because everybody look at social media and, you know, everybody just joke on our book, try to bully this person. Don't even know the person outside of basketball. Like, I'm more than just an athlete like you. You just don't know me. I'm the sweetest person if you get to meet me. But, you know, it made me, like, lose myself. Like, I just. I never went through anything like. Like that, but I'm. You know, everything happens for a reason. It's all God's plan.
Charlamagne Tha God
How was that when you saw your dog going through that?
Brianna Stewart
I mean, I watched that game, you know, when she got waved off and stuff like that. Obviously, I text her immediately after the game. I remember texting you, and I was like, oh, nah. Like, you need to, you know, get your confidence back. Like, get back to the Raven Johnson that I know, especially the one I played with in high school. So, I mean, I just tried to instill confidence in her and, you know, give her, you know, you know, some type of pick me up, because I know she was feeling down in that moment. I know she was going through a lot of emotions, too, so I just had to try to remind her who she was.
Lauren LaRosa
Was it hard to be receptive of. Of stuff like that, even though it was from somebody that loved you, because you were actually going through it at the time?
Raven Johnson
Yeah, no, I. I'm close with her. Yeah, I know she means it from her heart, but when it's people that I don't know, you know, I don't know if it's genuine or. I don't know if it's like, you know, they feel bad or they just trying to play in my face. But, you know, I was getting. I was listening to people that were close to me that I trust, like, loved ones. But I also was listening to my teammates at the time, which was Letitia, me here, those ziya cooks, a little Boston Coach Staley, who. One of the best people you can even be around. Like, he was in my ear, too. So, yeah, they meant a lot to me.
Charlamagne Tha God
Now, correct me if I'm Wrong. But I feel like after that championship game. Right. I feel like. Raven, you felt more bad for tonight.
Raven Johnson
Yeah, Yeah, I was. I was upset. I feel. I did, actually. I felt it hurt.
Lauren LaRosa
It.
Raven Johnson
It hurt me because I told her that I wanted to win a championship for her. Like, she didn't come here for no reason. I know she made a lot of sacrifices throughout the season. Like, I beat. Like, I have so much heart for her. Like, things she doesn't win, it hurts me. Or things she doesn't receive. Like, it hurts me because I know her sacrifices. I know how hard of a worker she is. So not winning that championship, it was. It meant it was bigger than just me. Like, it was for people that came here. Medina, like, they came here doing a national championship. It was for Coach Daily. Like, she goes through a lot. Like, she run through walls for us girls. So I feel like just to reward her with a championship would have meant so much. But, I mean, we paid. Reward her in another way. Like, we were great human beings to her. We fought. We fought for her like she fight for us. And I think, you know, there. There's no better way if we could have won the national championship, but we rewarded her in another way, and that's just been great human beings and great girls to her.
Charlamagne Tha God
Would you say y' all overachieved the last couple years? Even though, you know, being a Gamecock fan, I feel like we should be in the championship every year, but it feels like the last couple of years, they haven't necessarily projected y' all to be there, but y' all always make it.
Raven Johnson
That's fine. I feel like, you know, like, I like to be. Honestly, I like to be on the. Not the underdog. The underdog, yeah. If that makes sense. Like, you don't come in with a lot of pressure, but I feel like with this team, we didn't look into all that. Like, we. We wanted. We had one goal now, to win a national championship. We made Might not win the SEC championship, or we might have lost some games throughout the season, but that didn't stop us from one mission, and that was to get to the national championship. And I think those games made us closer. Those games made us actually realize, like, what we need to work on. Everybody needs to get better at one specific thing. Everybody needs to start playing together. It was like, little things like that. Like, we had a whole new starting five. I was the only starter that came back. Four new starters. They don't even know the system. They had to get used to the system. They had to get comfortable with their roles. Like, it's different roles. She came from Florida state scoring, what, 50 balls, 60 balls. They had to what. Com score 20 balls or 11 ball a night. And she's not used to that. But that takes a maturity. Like, she has to be mature to be in a role like that. Then Medina, she's not used to the pressure. She's not used to being that D. And, you know, post players that came before her. Leah Boston, Camila, Asia Wilson, like, she's holding a legacy, like, people in front of her. So she. I don't even think she understand, like, what her position meant. She was just out there playing, and she had a lot of high with the highs and low at the lows. But she have teammates and girls like us who's Jack genuine. I want to see her succeed and a coach like Coach Staley, once again, a great person who's helping her through those tough battles. And I think that means a lot with this team. And that's why, at the end of the day, we made it to the national championship with a lot of doubters. And that came to our bun. That came to. We wanted to go play for each other. I think that goes a long way when you trying to make. To have a team makes a national championship.
Charlamagne Tha God
Honestly, tonight, did you appreciate the process?
Brianna Stewart
Yeah, I did. I feel like, you know, I had everything going for myself at Florida State, and I. I wanted to challenge myself. I asked God for a challenge, and he gave me that. So. So, you know, it was a sacrifice. It was obviously hard, but I wouldn't change. Change my decision at all. I'll 100% do it again. Because I know going into the league, I'm gonna need those things to prepare me. Training camp, coming up, playing with other pros, not taking as many shots, you're gonna hit that wall. But I'd rather hit it in my senior year than in training camp. You know what I mean? So, mentally, I think it made me stronger, and it challenged me, and it made me stronger, grow.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh. So what did this year teach you about basketball beyond just scoring buckets?
Brianna Stewart
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know, you can do that.
Brianna Stewart
Yeah, that. Like, the intangibles matter, like rebounding, getting a steal, making an impact in other ways than just scoring. Because when you playing on a team full of pros, you may not have to go score 20 a night to win a game. Like, you can go get a rebound or a steal. That can change the whole. The whole momentum of a game. And just being, like, a good teammate, too. Like, I feel Like, I was a little selfish back then. Like, I always thought about me, me, me, me, me, and not we. So I think coming to South Carolina, it definitely changed my perspective on a lot of things.
Lauren LaRosa
I saw you say coming to South Carolina was the best thing that prepared you for the wnba.
Brianna Stewart
Yeah, it did. It did. I feel like just everything from the coaching, the resources, the nutrition, how to take care of my body, the resources. So I feel like that's definitely going to translate to the league.
Charlamagne Tha God
Hot wings. Raven said your nutrition was hot wings.
Raven Johnson
That's hot wings, too, all the time.
Portia Williams
Well, you. Y'.
Lauren LaRosa
All. Y' all can balance it, right? Hot wings. One day, the celery, the next day,
Brianna Stewart
she from Atlanta, so hot wings in her blood.
Raven Johnson
Hot wings, fried chicken. You gonna run it off?
Charlamagne Tha God
You said what?
Lauren LaRosa
You gonna run it off?
Charlamagne Tha God
You know, I wanted to ask you, you being a point guard playing for Don Stale, that's a different level of pressure. Like. Like. Like what? It looks like accountability on a different level. Different level. Can you. Can you talk to us about that?
Raven Johnson
Oh, it's hard. Like, I. I came to her, I'm like, why is she yelling at me? She need to yell at the people that's making mistakes. Like, I get yelled at for a little, like other people mistakes, and I had to get used to that. And sometimes it messes my head up. I think, you know, calling. Calling plays off the top of my head. Sometimes she may call this play and I may call. I see. I may see something different and call another play. I think that's where, you know, you got to trust your point guard on the floor. Try to kind of be a version of her on the floor. But I think, you know, when it comes to my teammates, they trust me with leading them, calling the right sets and when to call them. But it's hard. Like, you. You gotta. The margin of room for error is very small at that point guard spotlight, you better know. You better know your P's and Q's when it comes to the plays. You better know where people like the ball. You better. You better just be somebody that can win. Win a game honestly and who she can trust. And I think, you know, that comes with time.
Brianna Stewart
A game manager.
Raven Johnson
Yeah, that comes with time. Like from my freshman to what, fifth year, senior year. I think that came with time. They had people in front of me like Henny, Ty Harris, not even that Ziya Cook. She showed me a lot, too. So having people like that, that showed me a lot of great ropes before it was my time or trusting the process Tonight.
Charlamagne Tha God
What something coach Daley told you that changed how you see not just the game of basketball, but yourself?
Brianna Stewart
Shoot, just everything I feel like my all around game, like she, she taught me a lot about myself and just like how I can be impactful without scoring 20 a night or taking 20 shots a night. You know, she talked a lot about efficiency and improving that and she just instilled a lot of confidence in me. Like, coach was real laid back. Our relationship was way different from you know, like Raven and her relationship. It was just like I'm a laid back person, she a laid back person. She's kind of like, I'm gonna give you what you give me. And you can have real transparent conversations with, with her. She always just gave me freedom to be me, like, and I feel like that's what you want in a coach. And yeah, she gave me great advice too.
Charlamagne Tha God
A couple last questions. Tanaya, if your younger self could see you now, what would surprise her the most?
Mimi Brown
Shoot.
Brianna Stewart
Me being here, I feel like, you know, it started off as a dream, so now that it's reality, I feel like she'll just be so proud, so happy and you know, it was rooms that I didn't think I would be in. So I mean I know she would just be proud and happy of me.
Charlamagne Tha God
How about you, Raven?
Raven Johnson
Yeah, she would be my youngest. I was this little skinny little girl that just used to play basketball.
Charlamagne Tha God
Fat, you say?
Lauren LaRosa
Yo,
Raven Johnson
I don't even know who fat me is. I don't. She, she's out, she out the window. But fat me would definitely be. She been proud. I mean she, I mean she like dang, you got all the fat off,
Portia Williams
but
Raven Johnson
the limit me. Yeah, she'd be very proud and never would experience. Thought she would have go through adversity or meet people that's not like her who's bubbly, like been through a lot. But you know, her my little self would be like, I'm glad you went through those, through those things. And just a young black girl, like being that young, that black girl to keep inspiring other black girls. Black magic.
Caller
Yep.
Charlamagne Tha God
What's the moral of the story? You want your journeys to represent when it's, when it, when I want to even want to say when it's all said and done because y' all just getting started.
Lauren LaRosa
Just getting started. Literally.
Brianna Stewart
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, let's, let's, let's, let's cap it on the college then your college career so far. What's that moral of the story? Cuz you close that chapter, you starting a new one.
Raven Johnson
I want to be remembered as this person that, you know, that impact others. That's. That was very nice all the time. Who met fans. I want to be remember as cuz you never know who you might meet. So I feel like you should always be nice to everyone because that person you meet may meet them in the future and you may need them in the future. So I want to be remembered as this genuine, humble little sweetheart and who likes to win when it comes to being on the court. So that's what I want to be, a winner, too. Yeah, that's what I want to be remembered.
Charlamagne Tha God
How about you tonight?
Brianna Stewart
Just like, I guess like how I present myself and who I am just mature, a good person. Somebody that isn't afraid of change and growth both. But yeah, I feel like just who I am as a person and how I present myself. I want to be remembered as somebody that, you know, took the game seriously and, you know, tried to be it as best I could.
Charlamagne Tha God
Raven Johnson tonight. Laughing. Good luck tonight. Oh, I don't know. I don't even know what to tell y' all because I want y' all to end up wherever y' all want to end up.
Raven Johnson
Just watch the fit
Charlamagne Tha God
fire.
Raven Johnson
Just wash the feet.
Charlamagne Tha God
You putting a lot on it.
Portia Williams
You.
Raven Johnson
You
Lauren LaRosa
said to put a lot on it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Tell them where to follow y'. All.
Brianna Stewart
Oh, follow me on Instagram @cbg tanaya
Raven Johnson
and follow me on Instagram at Hollywood. Raven.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right, it's Raven Johnson. Tonia latching. It's the Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy
Let's get to the latest with Lauren.
Angela Yee
Lauren becoming a straight fat.
DJ Envy
She gets them from somebody that knows somebody.
Charlamagne Tha God
Some. She gets the details.
Lauren LaRosa
I'm the home girl that knows a little bit about everything.
Charlamagne Tha God
And be having the latest on the be the Latest with Lauren LaRosa. Sometimes you have facts. Sometimes you have details. Sometimes you have a little bit of everything.
DJ Envy
Oh, it's the latest brought to you
Charlamagne Tha God
by top dog Law on the Breakfast Club. Talk to me.
Lauren LaRosa
All right, guys. So on Sunday, Ti Sun King, he was arrested in Gwinnett county down in Georgia in a Pikachu outfit. And I want to clarify. In a Pikachu outfit. Like a. Like Pikachu. Pokemon.
DJ Envy
Pokemon. The yellow outfit.
Lauren LaRosa
Oh, I want to clarify some things. So right now, in a lot of the reporting, it's like, okay, King Harris arrested for control substance and there's a firearm found. But what was weird to me, I'm like, I'm reading all of these reports and I'm seeing the charges and he was charged with nothing to do with a firearm. But they're making it seem like, you know, there's drugs, there's a gun, whatever. So I called the Gwinnett County Police Department and I asked him, like, can you clarify for me why is a firearm even being mentioned if he wasn't charged for anything in relation to a firearm? So basically what they said to me is that when he was pulled over, he was. He was pulled over for a traffic stop. He was doing 60 and a 45 mile per hour zone at 1am on Sunday. The cops pulled him over because of that. They noticed the firearm on the dashboard. But in Georgia, open carry state. Yes, you don't have to be registered. You can literally just have the firearm with you. Now they tried to run his license, and I guess he didn't have his license on him. They tried to run the registration. The cops are claiming that there was something going on with the registration. So they come back to his car and they ask him to step out to have a conversation about the traffic violation. He refused to get out of the car. So then. And the only reason he asked him to step out was because the firearm was in the car for safety, not because of anything else. He refused to get out the car to have the conversation about the traffic violation, which is when he was arrested. And yeah, so people are. I don't know, the way it is being reported, I just thought was a little bit unfair. So he was booked on a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance because of. Of a vape pen, THC vape pin, and a misdemeanor charge of willfully obstructing law officers and then two traffic citations.
Charlamagne Tha God
That sound like some foolishness on behalf of law enforcement.
DJ Envy
Marijuana is illegal in Georgia. Recreational marijuana vapen, though.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, it was a vape pen. And it's. It's a substance schedule two drug. So it's defined as like anything that could have, you know, that you would use regularly. But it could have potential abuse. Like it could be. It could be looked at something. Yes, that's what I'm trying to get to. Like a lot of the way that this was being reported was a bit unfair. Now King responded.
Charlamagne Tha God
Buried the lead, though. Why did the young King have on a Pikachu outfit?
Lauren LaRosa
Maybe because it was 1am and he was headed home. I don't know.
DJ Envy
You might want to go to get some quick food, hop in the car, get some quick food back. It was pajamas.
Angela Yee
No, Warren made it seem like he was a goddamn mascot coming from a party or something.
Charlamagne Tha God
Pajamas.
Lauren LaRosa
I mean, I Only saw the top half of it because it could have just been a hoodie. But he. It has like the Pikachu on the top onesie. He posted some stuff to his Insta story. He said Pikachu got pulled over. They not catching this Pikachu tonight. He also posted some things going at the cops too. He said, I guess you could say you caught Pikachu with a master ball.
Charlamagne Tha God
They do got the Pikachu hoodies too though.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, that's why. That's why I didn't say pajamas. Because I only saw the hoodie.
Brianna Stewart
I didn't know.
Lauren LaRosa
But it was a Pikachu fit.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, but you made it sound like he had on a costume.
Angela Yee
Yeah, like what?
Lauren LaRosa
Pikachu. Pikachu. Pikachu. But yes. So clarifying that. Now moving on to some other news. So Nia Long, you guys know Nia Long? And the cast of the Michael movie are everywhere right now promoting the movie. So she sat down with Playboy and she got a little personal. Not too personal, but a little personal. And she talked about dating younger and that she's open to it. Let's take a look. Listen, there seems to be an uptick in women enjoying the company of younger men.
Mimi Brown
Huh?
Lauren LaRosa
I like this idea.
Mimi Brown
Fan of this?
Angela Yee
I love it.
Lauren LaRosa
Why not a spin yet? See, I told you I'm not really out there.
Portia Williams
I gotta get out there. You gotta get on the apps. No, they have one for famous people.
Lauren LaRosa
They do, they do.
Angela Yee
What's it called?
Lauren LaRosa
Raya. I've heard of Raya. The people are on Raya. I can't be on Raya cuz I
Brianna Stewart
wouldn't even keep up.
Lauren LaRosa
They'll be like, she, she's the flakiest date app person. Get her off of here. I'd probably be kicked off cuz I'd be like, that was a corny.
Angela Yee
Like I'm so picky.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, I do like younger though. I think there's something fun about younger.
Mimi Brown
Young is fun.
Angela Yee
Young is fun.
Mimi Brown
Young is fun.
Lauren LaRosa
And they also go home. That's true.
Angela Yee
I like a go home.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, they go home.
Angela Yee
Where you at, shorty?
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, she said young.
Lauren LaRosa
No, she 55.
DJ Envy
She's 55. Nia's 55. 45, 46, 47, I'm sure.
Angela Yee
Yeah, they go, she say younger, she ain't say how much.
Lauren LaRosa
Jeezy's 48.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay. Yeah, they go home, but they leave herpes. Do you know that 1 in 6 people?
Lauren LaRosa
What?
Charlamagne Tha God
1 in 6 people ages 14 to 49 in the US have genital herpes. I just want to tell you OG women out there that. Okay. Damn.
Angela Yee
Didn't you tell Lauren, stop leading on, leading with negative or something like that? Why would you?
Charlamagne Tha God
I'mma hate on any young boy getting with Neil Long. You a hater. Yes, sir.
Lauren LaRosa
Yo, that is so sad. Well, she.
Charlamagne Tha God
What the hell he did to deserve that?
DJ Envy
This guy right here, this guy's like.
Lauren LaRosa
She also talked about the fact that, like, she wouldn't mind living separate from, like, her person, her partner. Let's take a listen. I think Carol Burnett, or maybe it was Jane Fonda. Basically what she said is, is if I ever get married again, he needs to live next door. And I kind of like that idea for Whoopi goes.
Angela Yee
Goldberg said that once.
Lauren LaRosa
I don't want a man in my house. I think Carole, Whoopi, and Jane probably all said that. I know Whoopi said it because I know Whoopi. She's fine with her gardenias and herself. Whoopi Goldberg, Nia Long. Jane Fonda. Like, they. I mean, well, Nia said she'll date younger, but there's been, like, a trend of, like, a lot of women of a certain age saying, I want you, but not all the time.
Angela Yee
The older women, I can understand it. They've been there, done that, all these relationships. They got their own independence. Like, they. They need their time to breathe their space and all of that. But, like, I can't understand why the younger girls who haven't even been, you know, or haven't even experienced what being in love and in committed love feels like, is saying that. I understand Jane Fonda, Carol Burnett, Dolly Parton, who, You know, all the older women saying that.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know, when y' all say older, y' all talking about, like, older, older. Like, Jane Fonda is 88, but Whoopi so old.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't even know why Nia putting
Lauren LaRosa
her name is 55.
DJ Envy
Whoops.
Lauren LaRosa
Goldberg, 70.
Charlamagne Tha God
But I think car passed away. He's still alive.
Angela Yee
Oh, my God. I don't know either way.
Charlamagne Tha God
And I don't know after, I think, okay, she's still alive.
Lauren LaRosa
I think the gist is, though, what I was trying to get to is, like, over the last, like, year, I've been hearing a lot of women for. I feel like, from, like, 40 and up being like, I want you, but not all the time.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, yeah. Carnet 92. She's still around.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. So Nia going longer and you can't stay tonight. That's desolated for an hour.
Portia Williams
Wow.
Angela Yee
Wow.
Lauren LaRosa
Hit The Michael movie will be out on April 24th.
DJ Envy
Okay.
Portia Williams
Any.
Lauren LaRosa
And I have to mention the sponsor as well, too.
DJ Envy
That's brought to you by Top Dog Law.
Lauren LaRosa
Any accident, big or small, call Top Dog Law.
DJ Envy
All right. That's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Salute to Portia Williams for joining us this morning, of course, from Real Housewives
Charlamagne Tha God
of Atlanta, Capital P. Man, I love Capital P. Capital P got great energy. You know what I'm saying? You ain't gonna never be around Portia Williams and not see or feel that light.
DJ Envy
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know, I know. I know y' all watch reality television, and y' all might have y' all preconceived notions about somebody like Portia, but Portia is a great person. She got really good energy.
DJ Envy
And when my daughter was in the hospital last year, the end of last year, actually, Portia sent a nice gift for my daughter. And I. I'm just very appreciative of it.
Charlamagne Tha God
But that's what I'm talking about.
DJ Envy
Just. And it was behind the scenes. She posted and she sent it, and I Just really appreciative my daughter was. Was. It was just very, very heartfelt. So thank you, Ms. Portia Wa.
Charlamagne Tha God
See what I'm saying?
Angela Yee
That's so crazy now. Now that you say that. Yeah. When I was coming back from maternity leave, she was, like, pouring into me, empowering me and everything, letting me know I was still funny and beautiful and all that. Yeah, Portia is a vibe every time. That's so funny.
Charlamagne Tha God
What she sent your daughter.
Angela Yee
I remember that.
Charlamagne Tha God
What she sent her blanket.
Angela Yee
Excuse me.
DJ Envy
No, some toys and stuff from. No, we sent my daughter some toys and stuff from. Trying to think where she sent it from, but she sent him some toys and stuff. Stuff. So when my daughter came home, she had, you know, teddy bear. She had some toys to play with. So it was just pretty dope.
Charlamagne Tha God
Like, just.
DJ Envy
Just thinking of us during that time was just really, really dope. So. Fire. Salute to Portia and also salute to Raven Johnson and Tanaya Latson. Last night, they got drafted in the NWNBA. My girl Raven went 10th. She's Indiana fever. And Tanaya is playing for the Los Angeles Sparks. So salute to those women for joining us.
Charlamagne Tha God
Let me tell you something. Raven Johnson is a winner, right? Like, she got, like, four state champions, championships in high school, two national championships with the South Carolina Gamecocks. She's been to, what, four national. Three national championship games.
DJ Envy
Three.
Charlamagne Tha God
Three. Yeah. Three national championship games. I think that they gonna win the WNBA championship next year, I think the Indiana Fever. I actually picked the Indiana Fever to win it last year, but then Caitlin Clark got hurt. But they made it all the way to the semifinals before they lost to the Las Vegas Aces. Raven Johnson, Aaliyah Boston, Caitlyn Clark, Kelsey Mitchell. Boy, hey, I wouldn't be surprised if Raven comes in there next year and they win a championship with Indiana Fever. First year, rookie year.
DJ Envy
It's going to be great times. Got a lot of great plays in the wnba.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes, indeed.
DJ Envy
Now, today's your son's birthday, right?
Angela Yee
Yes. Turning 14. Yo, he said he wanted to have dinner with his friends and his girlfriend.
DJ Envy
So I was like, all right, cool.
Angela Yee
Usually my. Yeah, he got a girlfriend. Yeah, he does. Yes. So he's inviting her. We're meeting her parents tonight. And I'm. I don't know why I'm more nervous than he is, like, for me to meet them or whatever, but apparently they've been dating for a few little months and he wanted to make sure it was right. So that's just so funny.
DJ Envy
My.
Angela Yee
My son is growing up. For those who've been day one, just hilarious fans, Y' all remember Ash in the car with me in the back of the car, talking from the back seat, cracking jokes, all that.
