Charlamagne Tha God
How you feeling? How you feeling, Jess?
Jessica (Jess)
Good morning.
Caller/Listener
Good.
Jessica (Jess)
Yo, Coach Warren and Dr. Moore said they miss you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
To the gym yesterday.
Lauren LaRosa
Word?
DJ Envy
That's your trainers or something?
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah. You know, we go to this. This. It's a different way of working out, but it's called Midtown Biohack, and they do. What's the. Come on, Envy. Help me explain the damn workout. Yeah, no, but I don't really know, like, the proper terms for. It's ems. Like. No, like ems. Ems. So, like Electric Emergency Medical Services.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, what. What they do is they have these machines and. And they intensify your workout by adding these electrical magnetic things to your body so that when you work out, it pushes your workout to the limit. So that's. So that's what they do. So if you work out one time, it's supposed to feel like working out three, four times during that one workout?
DJ Envy
Yeah. I don't believe it.
Jessica (Jess)
Used to go, like, twice a week.
Charlamagne Tha God
We used to both, like, four times a week.
DJ Envy
Okay, technically, based on what they telling you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Correct.
Jessica (Jess)
But he stopped going. I know. He got busier because of the girls. Chilling. I mean, I'm dancing and, you know. You started working again like crazy.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Jessica (Jess)
You know, traveling. So I told him that she wasn't able, but they don't believe me. It was like he got 20 minutes to come in here. But Coach Warren specifically told me to tell you that he miss you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay.
Jessica (Jess)
And he bald now. He look like Suge Knight.
Charlamagne Tha God
Really? Okay.
Jessica (Jess)
He had a head filet first, but now he went bald.
Charlamagne Tha God
Jesus.
DJ Envy
So now ain't the time to stop working out. Spring right around the corner by the Way, I hate you folks that just start working out now to try to get ready for spring, you know what I'm saying? If you stay ready, you ain't got to get ready.
Charlamagne Tha God
It never works out.
DJ Envy
If you stay ready, you ain't got to get ready. Okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
Never works out.
DJ Envy
Okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah. But anyway, let's get the show cracked and Roger Karu.
DJ Envy
Finish the words. Finish the words. Sound like you had a scrope.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, Cuz I was.
Jessica (Jess)
Oh, my God.
Charlamagne Tha God
I was fighting his name. That's what I started. I was fighting his name, though, because his name. I couldn't remember if it's Raja.
DJ Envy
I don't know what you tried to
Charlamagne Tha God
say, Raja, but Raja Kharu will be joining us this morning.
DJ Envy
We're up in age now. We can't be sounding like we having strokes on there. So what am I doing? What am I doing?
Charlamagne Tha God
If I do have a stroke, what you gonna do?
DJ Envy
I'll give you the Heimlich, give the doctor, then call ems.
Jessica (Jess)
That is not why he want to
Charlamagne Tha God
come up behind me like it has nothing to choke.
Jessica (Jess)
Like you're not choking.
DJ Envy
I can recognize the signs of stroke, okay? And now all you young girls need to understand that too. If you out there dating these old men, you better be. You better know how to recognize the signs of the stroke, you hear me?
Charlamagne Tha God
Bar Roof will be joining us. He's a NASCAR driver. He's racing this Saturday. We're going to talk to him about all the cool things the brother's doing. Young brother is like 23 years old.
DJ Envy
He's 23 and he's racing in Darlington, South Carolina, this Saturday.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right. So we're gonna be chopping it up with him. And we got front page news. Mimi will be joining us. Where you gonna start the show with?
DJ Envy
Man, Salute to my guy, Trap Dicky. We got Trap Dicky. Oh, no. What you got? What you got? Oh, okay. One of the two. All right. But I do want to salute Trap Dicky because he signed with tde. But, man, Jay Z just announced two concerts, okay, this summer at Yankee Stadium. That's right, because he's celebrating 30 years of reasonable doubt and 25 years of the blueprint.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
DJ Envy
So damn. Yes.
Jessica (Jess)
This is.
DJ Envy
Can I live from Reasonable Doubt? Come on, man, I love this. This is in our DNA right here.
Charlamagne Tha God
Jay Z went from not performing to doing the roots to two shows at Yankee Stadium.
DJ Envy
UNCS is out this summer, and I
Charlamagne Tha God
think he's gonna probably announce some more, too.
DJ Envy
Now. UNCS is out this summer two Shows
Charlamagne Tha God
he doing so far.
Jessica (Jess)
That's all you need so far.
Charlamagne Tha God
And Yankee stadium holds what, 60,000 people?
DJ Envy
Oh, man.
Jessica (Jess)
Oh, wow.
DJ Envy
We outside this summer.
Charlamagne Tha God
You hear me? Oh, man. I'm going there this Saturday, see? For soccer. So let's do it. Oh, can I live? It's the Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy
Good morning, Avengers assemble. This summer. We outside, baby. July 10th, July 11th, Yankee Stadium, period, two nights only. JD performing Reasonable Doubt. You got to go to both in the blueprint. Definitely. You got to go to both.
Charlamagne Tha God
You got to go. You got to watch Reasonable Doubt album, and you got to go to both.
DJ Envy
That's one of them calls you make yesterday. Like, you know, I know. I know I got to pay for private school and college this year, but, you know, let's. Let's go ahead and fix that up so I can, you know, make. So I got some money for these two dates right here.
Jessica (Jess)
Let's fix that up. Let's hurry.
DJ Envy
How much are the tickets? I'm a budgeter, so we got Jay Z this summer, and we got Mary J. Blige in Vegas. So don't ask me for nothing. Things is tight right now, okay?
Charlamagne Tha God
I got a budget. Between private school and home tickets, there's a problem.
DJ Envy
Yes. Life is about. I don't know how much they are. I just know life is about budgeting. Sir. I was thinking about gas.
Jessica (Jess)
I was gonna say, what if they make it?
Charlamagne Tha God
What if you make them affordable, though?
Jessica (Jess)
What if he makes the tickets affordable?
DJ Envy
Hey, man, I don't know how y'. All, Like, I'm just telling you about my life, okay? I'm just telling you what I need to budget for, okay? How I'm preparing.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah, I gotta ask for anything.
Charlamagne Tha God
I gotta see over. I gotta see New Edition and Mary, this with this summer. So I got lots of play.
DJ Envy
All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
Good morning, Mimi.
Mimi Brown
Good morning, Envy. Just Charlemagne. How y' all doing this morning?
Charlamagne Tha God
Y' all listen to HOV in Alaska.
DJ Envy
That's so difficult.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm just joking. I'm just joking.
DJ Envy
I'm just joking.
Jessica (Jess)
She's like, no, I'm just joking.
DJ Envy
I saw. I sent Mimi a video yesterday of all these dudes, these black dudes in Alaska.
Mimi Brown
It was very, very disrespectful. I just want to say that.
DJ Envy
Oh, my goodness.
Mimi Brown
Anyway, so we start this morning with a heated confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill. As President Trump's pick to lead Homeland Security, he faced tough questions from both sides. I'm talking about Senator Mark Wayne Mullen of Oklahoma. He is now the nominee to replace former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem following a turbulent year for the agency, growing criticism over its immigration enforcement. So during a tense hours long hearing yesterday, Mullen defended his record and promised to restore trust, saying he would take a different approach and work more closely with local communities. Lawmakers, though they pushed back Democrats, they pressed him on immigration raids, use of force, and the use of judicial warrants. Let's listen.
DJ Envy
That ICE will no longer instruct agents to break into people's homes without a judicial warrant. You're using the word break into people's houses very loosely. However, I have made it very clear to the staff that a judicial warrants
Charlamagne Tha God
will be used to go into houses
DJ Envy
and a place of businesses unless we're
Charlamagne Tha God
pursuing someone that enters in that place.
DJ Envy
I have, I have not mixed words
Charlamagne Tha God
with that and I haven't changed my opinion about that.
Mimi Brown
So right now they're using administrative warrants which can be signed within a department. A judicial warrant has to be signed by a judge. And that's one of the restraints or one of the talking points that the Democrats have right now to end this partial government shutdown. So the hearing, though, it also turned personal. Senator Rand Paul also confronted Mullen over past comments where Mullen said that he understood a 2017 personal attack that left Senator Rand Paul with multiple broken ribs. Let's listen to that exchange.
Charlamagne Tha God
You told the media that I was a freaking snake and that you completely understood why I had been assaulted. Tell the world why you believe I deserve to be assaulted from behind, have six ribs broken and a damaged lung. Tell me to my face. And while you're at it, explain to the American public why they should trust a man with anger issues.
DJ Envy
I simply addressed that.
Charlamagne Tha God
I said I could understand because of, of the behavior you were having. I can understand why your neighbor, by the neighbor, did what he did.
DJ Envy
And as far as me saying that I invoke violence, I don't.
Charlamagne Tha God
And you offer no apology today and no regrets. And I'm not apologizing for pointing out your character.
DJ Envy
Good.
Charlamagne Tha God
So you're, you're jolly well fine. And you want the American public and the people up here to vote that may or may not vote for you to know that you supported the felonious, violent attack on me from behind. I did not say no that understood it. Nobody should be attacked from behind.
DJ Envy
By the way, you know, God is still working on me. I don't, you know, I don't know any of these people, but I just know that if you get beat up, and I know you, and somebody asked me why you got beat up. And I said, because of the way you be talking, you deserve it. I know you, you. Somebody should have been put hands on you. Like, I kind of respect that.
Jessica (Jess)
Right?
Charlamagne Tha God
Nobody should be assaulted from nobody.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah, well,
DJ Envy
I know some people that deserve to get ass put on it. I know some people. Right. I was just talking to my therapist about this. I know some people right now that deserve to get hands put on.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, I'm with you.
Mimi Brown
You guys are taking a very serious topic and making it very unserious. So what happened? Was it 2017? Rand Paul was. He was attacked by his neighbor. They had some neighborly spats, grass growing. Your fence is in the wrong area. Anyway, the neighbor attacked him while he was mowing his lawn. He broke six of his ribs. The neighbor ended up going to jail behind it.
Lauren LaRosa
And so I. Yeah, so I gotta hear both sides.
DJ Envy
What, what I need to hear.
Charlamagne Tha God
Somebody was cutting the grass.
DJ Envy
I need to know what Rand Paul had been doing to the neighbor up until that point.
Mimi Brown
Yo, I ain't saying that it was justified.
Jessica (Jess)
I'm cutting my grass. I'm on the lawnmower. You come up behind me.
DJ Envy
You shouldn't have turned your back on me after you talk crazy. Yeah.
Mimi Brown
We have one more story we have to get to. Guys. All of this is coming as the Department of Homeland Security, it remains partially shut down, but the White House, they may be pushing forward some new ideas, trying to make negotiations go forward. So in a letter to lawmakers on Tuesday, the administration outlined what is willing to change in order to reach a deal with Democrats. So that means expanding body cameras for agents, limiting enforcement in places like schools, churches, and hospitals. But they are refusing to. To not do one key sticking point, which is to ban agents from wearing masks. They say agents would be able to identify themselves, but they will not keep agents from wearing masks. They say that that will only apply possibly or not apply to. They say that that would only apply to undercover cases. So we'll see what happens with that. But meanwhile, Democrats, they've introduced several bills to fund the government, including tsa, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, while these negotiations could continue. And just yesterday, Senator Raphael Warnick, he pushed a bill that would immediately pay a TSA workers. Hear what he had to say really quickly about that.
DJ Envy
In terms of funding, ICE is now bigger than the United States Marines. And my Republican friends are saying to me, saying to my colleagues that if you don't give this overgrown paramilitary force of mass agents jumping out of unmarked cars more money, we're going to leave TSA workers and Others unpaid. I think that's patently unfair. I think we ought to fund the federal workers. We ought to fund fema, Coast Guard.
Raja Karuth
All.
DJ Envy
We ought to fund Homeland Security. While we have a principled argument about what is happening with ice, because what is happening there and what we're witnessing in this moment is unacceptable pay TSA workers. I agree with Raphael Ward.
Raja Karuth
The fact.
DJ Envy
The fact we have to fight to get the TSA workers paid and the federal workers paid. But, you know, ISIS just getting a blank check does not sit right with me in no way, shape, or form.
Mimi Brown
And that they're bigger than the Marines. Who knew that? I mean, that's what I'm saying.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah.
Mimi Brown
That's crazy. So Republicans said, no, of course they will not support anything that does not fund the entire department.
DJ Envy
So you think them TSA agents don't want to put hands on nobody right now?
Charlamagne Tha God
Absolutely.
Jessica (Jess)
No, they do.
Charlamagne Tha God
Absolutely.
DJ Envy
I really want to hear more about this Rand Paul situation. Not just about Rand Paul, but y' all not gonna sit here on this radio and act like y' all don't know people who don't need some hands put on.
Charlamagne Tha God
And he's like 63, 64 years old right now.
Jessica (Jess)
Damn. He don't even care.
Charlamagne Tha God
He don't even get up the same way somebody assaults you from the back. He ain't getting up like that.
DJ Envy
Man, shut up. I don't want to talk to you. Come. Thank you, Mimi. We talk to you next hour. Just got it.
Mimi Brown
Okay, thank you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Everybody else, get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need the vent, phone lines are wide open. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
DJ Envy
This is your time to get it off your chat.
Charlamagne Tha God
800-585-1051. We want to hear from you on the Breakfast Club. Hello? Who's this?
DJ Envy
What's up, man?
Caller/Listener
It's Evan from Jacksonville.
DJ Envy
What up?
Charlamagne Tha God
What's up, brother?
Caller/Listener
What's up, y'? All, man, listen, I got a Nissan Sentra. I just paid 45 for a tank of gas.
DJ Envy
Damn.
Charlamagne Tha God
Wow.
DJ Envy
How much gas cost a gallon?
Caller/Listener
It's $4.
DJ Envy
Lord have mercy.
Jessica (Jess)
All right. Yeah.
Caller/Listener
That's crazy, man. It's Florida, too. We usually got cheap, cheap guys.
DJ Envy
So that means you ain't gonna be able to buy an A for later, huh?
Caller/Listener
Hey, Jesus, man, I'm telling you, it's like 35 degrees. It ain't supposed to feel like this down here.
DJ Envy
It's 35 degrees in Jacksonville this morning.
Caller/Listener
Right now? Yes, it's 35 degrees. I had ice on my car.
DJ Envy
I don't believe you.
Caller/Listener
Wow.
Charlamagne Tha God
Angle lie if you know what I do. Regardless, I put 40. Regardless the price of the gas. If. If it's $5 a gallon or if it's $2 a gallon, I'm only putting $4 in. That's it. That's all I can.
DJ Envy
Yeah, man.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's it.
DJ Envy
Have a good one, Evan.
Caller/Listener
All right, y'.
DJ Envy
All, I'm saying it says 45 degrees in Jacksonville right now.
Jessica (Jess)
Nissan Sentra, that usually like $23 to fill up your tank?
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't even think they make sentries anymore, do they?
Jessica (Jess)
No, but I'm just saying, like, that car only takes like that. And a Civic take like $25. No more than 30 to fill up. That's wild.
Charlamagne Tha God
What's up, Tom?
Caller/Listener
Hey, good morning. Good morning.
DJ Envy
I just want to say, you know,
Caller/Listener
get off my chest. Hey, DJ Envy. How could you never introduce yourself in the opening of the show?
DJ Envy
Well.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, the way it's supposed to go, I say good morning, usa. Yo, yo, yo, yo. What's up, Jess? Just supposed to say, what's up, Envy? Go Charlemagne to God. But just. She just. Do. She just do her. So we just let her go.
Caller/Listener
Okay. That's all I wanted to ask.
Charlamagne Tha God
Have a good one, Tom.
Jessica (Jess)
Thank you.
Caller/Listener
You too.
DJ Envy
You too. Have a good one.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right.
DJ Envy
They say the Centra is not discontinued. They say it's being redesigned for this year.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay, well, then maybe, all right, it's
Charlamagne Tha God
coming back out this year.
Jessica (Jess)
I haven't seen a century if it's being redesigned. They probably haven't sold any new ones because it's being redesigned.
Charlamagne Tha God
But yeah, I haven't seen the century.
DJ Envy
Yeah, cuz you a snob. You don't. You don't see centuries.
Charlamagne Tha God
I do cars, and I would see all types of cars. I go to all types of cases.
DJ Envy
And it ain't a spirit. You don't even see it. You got to be a gold star.
Charlamagne Tha God
Phantom action Accords and Civics and all likes and Rivians and all up.
DJ Envy
But I've never seen the Nissan Versa, they said will be discontinued after the 2025 model year. And the Ultima is expected to be discontinued.
Jessica (Jess)
That was the best.
DJ Envy
Titan got discontinued after 2024.
Charlamagne Tha God
They should bring the maximum back.
DJ Envy
The maximum is not maximum is fire.
Jessica (Jess)
And then why you keep saying these cars don't exist no more, do they?
DJ Envy
I don't.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't remember. I don't see them no more.
Jessica (Jess)
And then awesome. So it was Maxima then. Awesome. I loved me awesome.
DJ Envy
Oh, the Maxima's been discontinued.
Caller/Listener
That's what I said.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't see it.
Jessica (Jess)
What? It was so hard. What about the Nissan Z?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, they brought the Z back for a couple years. They did?
Jessica (Jess)
You got it pulled up, Kashala.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, they bought the Z back, but I don't think they make the Z anymore. But they bought the Z back a couple of years ago.
Jessica (Jess)
That was like, one of my little dreams.
Charlamagne Tha God
People wasn't buying it like that.
Jessica (Jess)
A little red Nissan Z.
DJ Envy
No, the current seventh generation Nissan Z has not been discontinued and is available for the 25 and 26 model years, period.
Charlamagne Tha God
But nobody be driving the Z's no more. I'm gonna get it.
Jessica (Jess)
I'm gonna get one.
Charlamagne Tha God
Get it off your chest. 5851051. If you need the event, hit us up now. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning, Ray. Ray.
Caller/Listener
Ray.
DJ Envy
Yo, Charlemagne.
Charlamagne Tha God
Envy, what up?
Caller/Listener
Are we live?
DJ Envy
This is your time to get it off your chest.
Charlamagne Tha God
I got an indoor pool, a outdoor pool. We want to hear from you on the Breakfast Club. We can get on the phone right now.
Caller/Listener
Here.
DJ Envy
Tell you what it is.
Caller/Listener
We live.
Jessica (Jess)
Hello?
Charlamagne Tha God
Who's this?
Caller/Listener
This is Jay.
Charlamagne Tha God
Hey, Jay. What's up, Chest Jay?
Caller/Listener
How you doing it, Mike?
DJ Envy
Blessed, Black, and highly favored.
Caller/Listener
What's going on? So, Charlamagne, I just want to agree with you. I think you're right. Concerning, like, people need to have hands put on them.
DJ Envy
Yes, sir.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's not gonna happen, O.J. but yeah, I agree, too.
Caller/Listener
You know, we live in a society right now, though. Like, you know, back in the 80s and 90s, you couldn't do what you do now.
DJ Envy
Everybody go to the Internet.
Caller/Listener
They talk all their talk. But.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, Jay, the reason is we, you know, we pay people for their talk, right? When people talk crazy online and they on these platforms, they get checks. So they talk crazy, have nothing to
DJ Envy
do with consequences and repercussions.
Charlamagne Tha God
But the problem is now, if I put my hands on you now, you sue me. Now I gotta pay you again.
DJ Envy
And nothing has changed. It's been like that since the beginning of time. That dude who put hands on Rand Paul is in prison right now because he did.
Jessica (Jess)
He.
DJ Envy
He. He. He was willing to deal with the consequences of his accident.
Charlamagne Tha God
What would your therapist say?
DJ Envy
About what?
Charlamagne Tha God
Hitting somebody? Putting your hands?
DJ Envy
My therapist told me this week that, you know, if you love the challenge, then you have to love the challengers. Okay, true.
Charlamagne Tha God
But that means Charter man.
DJ Envy
Yes, sir.
Caller/Listener
When are you doing your next mental health session?
DJ Envy
Oh, October. You know, we do the Mental wealth expo every October 10th. So this year, I think it is actually on October 10th. So I'll be doing the mental health exposure. That's not till the fall. The next thing we got coming up is the Black effect podcast festival, Saturday, April 25, in Atlanta, Georgia, at Pullman Yards.
Caller/Listener
Okay, well, I'm. I'm over here in the wrong Jersey area, so if you got anything going on in Jersey, I'm definitely gonna be there.
DJ Envy
Oh, yes, We. We did the Mental wealth Expo last year in Newark, and we're doing it again this year in Newark, New Jersey. So, yes, the mental health Expo will be in Newark in the fall.
Caller/Listener
Bet I'll be there.
DJ Envy
Yes, sir.
Charlamagne Tha God
Have a good one, brother.
DJ Envy
And, you know, you asked me what my therapist said.
Caller/Listener
All right. Peace, y'. All.
Charlamagne Tha God
Peace.
DJ Envy
It's really what Malcolm X said. Malcolm X said, be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone, but if someone puts his hand on you, send them to the cemetery, period.
Charlamagne Tha God
I. I don't think your therapist.
Jessica (Jess)
I like it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
DJ Envy
I think I said that was Malcolm X. I just told you who said it.
Charlamagne Tha God
I know, but. So who do you listen to in that situation?
DJ Envy
Okay, there's a lot. There's a lot of people that go through your head. It's a council. When you about to do that. But don't act like sometimes people don't need to get hands.
Jessica (Jess)
True.
DJ Envy
Okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
I agree.
Jessica (Jess)
I don't know about the cemetery, but,
Charlamagne Tha God
yes, put hands on them sometimes. Well, anyway, get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. What's up, Lauren?
Lauren LaRosa
Good morning, y'.
Charlamagne Tha God
All.
Caller/Listener
How you feeling?
Lauren LaRosa
I feel good.
Jessica (Jess)
How are your earrings?
Lauren LaRosa
Oh, thank you. Thank you. Little name earring throwback. No, it says more
Charlamagne Tha God
name.
Lauren LaRosa
No, these are like, name earrings from high school.
DJ Envy
I know them earring backs. Think you had them since high
Lauren LaRosa
jewelry. You cleaned it? Yes, I had these since, like, ninth grade.
DJ Envy
God, let me smell it.
Jessica (Jess)
Don't you do that.
Charlamagne Tha God
Don't you take that earring.
Lauren LaRosa
Clean my earring.
Charlamagne Tha God
We got the ladies coming up.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes. Oh, my God. Okay, so we've heard from Cameron Mace Shine. I even got a call from somebody in Shine's camp last night. But now Brandy has spoken, so we going to clear all of this up and move on.
Charlamagne Tha God
You better be talking about Afro man yesterday. I've been through an Afroman rabbit hole.
Lauren LaRosa
I got you.
DJ Envy
It's crazy how you just dismissed Brandy. You really don't care. You just dismissed the black woman.
Lauren LaRosa
To be fair, I think he was driving a lot yesterday, and Listening to a lot of that crazy audio. So it's just, you know, it's embedded, but I got you. We going to get into that today at some point too.
DJ Envy
Yeah. I don't care what Brandy talking about.
Charlamagne Tha God
I just. I didn't care. I said just make sure we talk about.
DJ Envy
I just care about Dominican.
Charlamagne Tha God
You should be Dominican.
DJ Envy
I'm black, but salute to Afro Randy.
Jessica (Jess)
Never break in New York ever.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right, we'll get to that. Next is the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. I'm not dumbing myself down. I'm being myself. I'm the homegirl that knows a little bit about everything and everything.
Mimi Brown
Little brown girls look at you and
Lauren LaRosa
go, I want to be like you. Take me through there. Take me through there. She gone.
DJ Envy
The latest with Lauren on the Breakfast Club. LL Cool B, talk to me before LL Cool Bay gets to chatting. Can we salute LL Cool Bay? Drop on the clues bombs for Lauren. She's on the COVID of Brown Style magazine. 100 plus women in media. You need to know. It says Lauren LaRosa soft living with the brown girl who's always grinding. She's on the COVID I really wish that people would stop bringing Lauren LaRosa in the photo shoots and telling her play games of Twister first.
Lauren LaRosa
That was not.
Jessica (Jess)
I love that pose.
Lauren LaRosa
Thank you. We were. I was trying to give, you know, I wanted you to see the wang. Shout out to Alexander Wayne because they addressed me for this.
DJ Envy
I don't know what a wang is. Sounds like it needs to be washed with this right here. Just tell them to stop making you look like you doing twist all the time.
Lauren LaRosa
Shout out to Brownstone and to tweet. Congratulations elo2 and her family. So Brownstone magazine is a black owned magazine. It's a family that owns it who spent years in media. And this. This. I was gonna say this episode, this. This issue issue of the magazine is special because it is one of their, like, collectors editions. It's their second one. So Vanessa Simmons has a. A special guest writer segment in that magazine. Vanessa Simmons?
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
Angela Simmons, sister. She's talking about. Yeah. Just finding out how to, like, do other things and just work. Like, what do you do outside of work? There's a lot of fire women in media, though, in that magazine. Literally, they list 100 women in media. But there's a lot of conversation about, like, black women and the totality of us, like, outside of work, outside of the grind.
DJ Envy
So making you look like you on playing a game of Twister and having something in your teeth. This is A great cover.
Lauren LaRosa
Thank you. Thank you.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
And y' all can congrats. And people want to know where they can read the COVID story. It's@iambrownstyle.com you can also purchase physical copies there too, so wanted to shout them out. All right, y', all, so let's get into the latest now. Okay, so we've been kind of in the midst of this, like, Shine, Cameron, Mace, and Ray J conversation, because for those of you guys who do not remember, Shine went on Mace and Cameron, it is what it is show that they do with Treasure Wilson and talked about dating Brandy. Let's take a listen to the original comments, and then I'll talk to you guys about what Brandi had to say. Let's take a listen.
DJ Envy
What happened with Brandy and everything. You was dating Brandy at one time
Lauren LaRosa
or y' all was just.
DJ Envy
How'd it go? He was the. He was the champion. He was the mvp, Right. I was Kobe. No pun intended, because they said Kobe was a special friend. The Brandy's as well, you know, But I had no idea. So what happened is we had a mutual friend who was a snitch. So I was so excited because this is my dream person. Talk about Brandi. Brandi, right? Poor kid. Brooklyn watching mtv, watching Moesha as a dream. I'm like, man. But she was the no shot. Got that? Yeah. I had no idea, though, because he was. He was special, right? So he was running that. That playbook so discreetly, so quietly. I had no idea.
Charlamagne Tha God
He said.
Lauren LaRosa
So after that. So Ray J has responded. We played a lot of that yesterday. He kind of went crazy. Shine also posted to his Instagram a photo of Ray J, Brandy, and himself. And the caption said, I indeed were not the one that hit it first. And he had Ray J's song. I hit it first over. Over the. The photo. Right? Okay.
Jessica (Jess)
Shine with the subtle shade.
Lauren LaRosa
And I think what he's trying to not even think I know, because I spoke to a source in Shine's camp is that Ray J had some like. Like, who is Ray J? To say you guys should not be talking about dating another woman or what you're doing another woman because you made a whole song about it. Right? So that's coming from Shine's camp. But Brandy spoke out yesterday, and she wanted to clear the air. And Brandi never speaks about anything she said. In the late 90s, I had a platonic friendship with rapper Shine. In an unfortunate turn of events, that friendship is now being mischaracterized as we dated unequivocally we did not. I'm not sure why an untrue narrative about a scope of what was a friendship more than 20 years ago is being reshaped during this current during his current media interviews, people telling that version of my story is why I'm releasing my upcoming memoir, Phases. It's time to tell my truth and debunk many of the misnomers that people think they know about my life. Additionally, I rarely release statements and typically ignore stories about me in the headlines, even when they're false. But when I do decide to stand up for myself, I handle things on my own. While I love my brother Ray J, I don't condone or support the messages he shared on social media and have not asked him to defend me in any form.
DJ Envy
Question to the ladies in the room. Do. Do women always have to defend their box? Like, if a guy comes out and says y' all had a relationship, do you have to confirm or deny that it was platonic or it was sexual? Or can you just leave that quiet? And if you do speak on it, why you?
Lauren LaRosa
I. I feel like you don't have to, but as you want to, because it's like, especially if you're saying that Brandy's saying that this is something that didn't happen, it's just like, you don't want another body, person, relationship, whatever thrown on you if that's not what happened. Especially because the way that this conversation is, is she was dating Mace at one point, and then now she's dating this other person. So it makes her look like she's dealing with these two people at one time. And you just don't want people all in your business like that. Like, as a woman, like, you don't. But I think her deciding to speak on it is because it's like Brandi rarely ever takes control of her narrative. Like, she's always been, like, out the way, and you know what I mean? It's just not a good conversation you want to be in as a woman, to be honest. I don't care if it's one person, two person, or three.
Jessica (Jess)
Jess yeah, me. I don't really care about it. I don't think you have to debunk or, you know, confirm or deny whether you slept with somebody who coming out saying that they slept with you. Unless it's a clown. Like, if it's a clown, a crackhead, somebody that. It's like, what if he wasn't a
DJ Envy
crackhead when you slept with him? But then, you know, life. Life took. Life took A turn.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah, but why would you wait until you become a crackhead to say something? No, that's what happened.
Lauren LaRosa
That's what can happen.
Charlamagne Tha God
I think we all understand why she's defending herself, coming out and saying it didn't happen because it would make her look crazy that she dated somebody in the same camp and she's saying it didn't happen. Get off my neck. That's what she pretty much said.
Jessica (Jess)
He didn't say he dated her, did he? He said that cuz, remember, even in the doc, she said to him, you don't got no hits who you think you are. That's.
Lauren LaRosa
So I actually have a bit of the documentary. He doesn't specifically say Brandi's name, but
Jessica (Jess)
Wendy, okay, had a crush on her.
DJ Envy
So when I came to the label, it's like Kobe coming to the Lakers and, you know, Shaq is already there. And then Kobe comes and he thinks, you know, out of high school, it's all him with Mace. You know, he was seeing a girl, I was seeing the same girl. Everybody knew he dated Brandi at some point. Hey, that.
Lauren LaRosa
That's not. That's not.
DJ Envy
And so that caused like a whole thing at bad boy.
Lauren LaRosa
The second voice that you heard was D.J. clark. Clark Kent. Peace. But, yeah, so, okay, so I spoke to a source in Shine's camp last night and they called me, you know, upset. They're like, I don't understand why this is being portrayed as disrespect and blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, look, as a woman, anytime you speak on somebody, someone speaking on dealing with you, it's like, why? Especially if it was 20 years ago. And I think the tone we know

Now, you know me and my wife, married 24 years and together over 30. And yes, we still speak on the phone every day. I mean, the early days, I didn't have a cell phone. I couldn't afford a cell phone. And the cell phones were like the size of a. A man's purse. But anyway, I love speaking to my wife over the phone. People say we talk too much, but that's my best friend. Why shouldn't we be able to talk all the time? All day long? 24, 7. And he alleges that by Brandi.
Mimi Brown
Right.
Lauren LaRosa
But in this conversation that Shine had with Mason Cam when I watch it, I was like the. The. The giggling and all. It feels like a locker room barbershop conversation that we didn't need to be a part of.
DJ Envy
And it's Brandy and then the Internet runs with it and the Internet be like Brandy a bop. Brandy was with this person.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. It's just like, why?
Jessica (Jess)
But I mean, people may look at me like I'm crazy. I didn't think it was disrespectful at all because what I got from it was just Sean saying he had a crush on him. She was already saying makes what I'm saying.
Lauren LaRosa
So like the person I thought the person in Shines can't want to make it clear that that's what hit. That's what Sean's intentions are always when he speaks to Brandy to The big her up to give her her flowers that he didn't mean to be disrespectful and he no, no way would ever mean to come off as disrespectful. But I did explain to them like why it would be taken that way and why she'd just be left alone.
Jessica (Jess)
And I honestly think that Brandy, although cuz she never speaks on things like this, I think she did this because her brother blew it up like that. And the way the things that he was saying, her brother was upset, you know. Yeah, yeah, I get it. But it's just like, damn.
DJ Envy
All right.
Lauren LaRosa
And Shines, Shines camp is also saying too that he wouldn't lie about dating anybody because she's mentioning that she didn't date him. But at this point I think we just all learned a lesson here.
Jessica (Jess)
Move on.
Lauren LaRosa
Keep some conversations in the group chat.
DJ Envy
And also too, this just has nothing to do with nothing. This is just a word of advice from your old Uncle Charlotte. I think there should be a statue of limitation on claiming bodies. Okay. If it's 20 years old, it didn't count. It didn't count. It never happened more than 20 years old. It never what happened?
Jessica (Jess)
Or a clown. Don't ever talk about the bodies you had before you got on drugs.
DJ Envy
Depends on the year. If I hit five years ago and got on crack five years later, I hit that.
Jessica (Jess)
You're welcome. Yo.
Charlamagne Tha God
Thank you, Lauren.
Jessica (Jess)
You a different person?
DJ Envy
No.
Lauren LaRosa
All right. That's the latest. Okay. All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
When we come back, we got front page news. Mimi will be joining us. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get back to some front page news. What's up, Mimi?
Mimi Brown
Good morning, you guys. How y' all doing this morning? Girl, Good morning. So we start this hour with an update on Pam Bondi and the Jeffrey Epstein file. So House Democrats, they walked out of a closed door briefing with Attorney General Pam Bondi yesterday saying she would not commit to testifying under oath next month.
DJ Envy
Month.
Mimi Brown
Here is Congresswoman Summer Lee. Let's listen.
Lauren LaRosa
What we witnessed today was absolutely a farce. From the very beginning, AG Bondi has been obstructing justice. She has perjured herself multiple times. And she has been withholding critical documents that would inform this investigation into a pedophile, into corruption. Impossible. Possibly quite deeply because we do not know who was all involved today. What their attempt was was to push this under the rug, do something off the record that they would not have to be accountable for.
DJ Envy
I like Summer Lee, by the way. Drop on a clues bomb for Summerlee. Somebody bought that action. She'd be in there attempting to get things done. I appreciate that.
Mimi Brown
Absolutely. Lawmakers have already issued a subpoena ordering Bondi to answer questions about the Justice Department and how they handled those records, including concerns about redactions and transparency. Bondi says, though, she will follow the law, but did not confirm if she will appear. Let's listen to what she had to say after that hearing.
Lauren LaRosa
So under the Epstein Transparency act, we have 30 days to redact and release under the law that was passed, 3 million documents. If you stack those up, that's the
Mimi Brown
height of the Eiffel Tower.
Lauren LaRosa
No other administrative under the Biden administration favorite zero documents. So we did our very best to comply with the law.
DJ Envy
See, that's my thing, though, with this whole administration. You know, who's going to hold Pam Bondi accountable when she doesn't follow the law?
Mimi Brown
Exactly. Well, they're saying, the committee is saying that they will try and hold her in contempt, which will of course set up a larger fight between Congress and the Justice Department if she does not not agree to testify under oath. So this could escalate and we will continue to follow the steps into what this could look like as they, they do try and lock her down to get more answers from her. To your point, Charlotte, about, you know, the Epstein files and now to a service that millions of Americans rely on every single day. I'm talking about the mail. So from prescriptions to paychecks, bills, packages, we all rely on the post office, which delivers six days a week to nearly every actress in the country. But now there's growing concern about whether that level of service can continue. So testifying before Congress this week, the postmaster general told lawmakers that the Postal Service is facing a financial crisis and could run out of cash very soon unless there are changes made. Let's listen.
DJ Envy
At our current rate, we'll be out
Raja Karuth
of cash in less than 12 months.
DJ Envy
So in about a year from now, the Postal Service would be unable to deliver the mail. We're mandated by law to deliver to every address, more than 170 million of them, six days a week.
Raja Karuth
If we're expected to deliver six days
DJ Envy
a week to every location, someone needs
Raja Karuth
to pay for that.
DJ Envy
At 78 cents, the US first class
Raja Karuth
stamp is the lowest in the industrialized world.
DJ Envy
If we were to change the stamp price to 90 to 95 cents, which is still less than half of the cost of foreign posts, that would largely
Raja Karuth
solve our controllable loss.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's crazy. I mean, it's gonna be sad to say, but I think they kind of should because nobody really uses the post office like we used to. Right. Everything else we do is over the digital. Oh, yeah, digital. So it's like, when do we really use the post office? And the post office does so many for so many people, but not so many people use it like we used to.
DJ Envy
And correct me if I'm wrong, maybe, but somebody told me a while a long time ago that the post office isn't funded by tax dollars. Right?
Mimi Brown
It's not funded by tax dollars. But they were trying to get Congress. That's what he was on Capitol Hill for, was trying to get money from Congress to make up the difference for what they need. Because what lawmakers are saying, they don't want to raise the stamp, what do you say, from 78 cents to somewhere around 90, 95 cents. They don't want to do that because then that would fall back on. So they were there asking Congress for money. And to your point, envy, a lot of people are switching to email, auto pay, digital billing, which means less revenue for the postal service because that's how they make up their money, right?
Charlamagne Tha God
But it's also saving people money, right? If I don't have to pay that $0.78 to send out a bill, if I don't have to pay that $0.78 to, you know, write a letter or whatever I have to do, I can just do it, you know, through the Internet, you know what I mean? And it makes it a lot cheaper. It saves a lot of time too. But people still use the post office a lot. That's how people get their IRS checks, That's how they get their regular checks.
Mimi Brown
And in rural areas, that's how a lot of people still get their mail and their prescriptions, you know what I mean? And so if the agency does scale back, it would impact, you know, workers, jobs, hours, long term benefits for, you know, retirement and people I know. For me personally, my dad, he retired from the post office, he worked there for 30 years and raised like three girls on, you know, a postal service service, a salary. And so, you know, what does that look like for, for him and for our family, you know what I mean? So there's just lots of questions as this agency, if it were to shut down, what that would look like.
DJ Envy
So your daddy was the mailman, did he, what do you say?
Mimi Brown
He wasn't a mailman. He just, he worked. He was in the back. He Worked kind of like as a sorter in the mill in Alaska.
Jessica (Jess)
Yep.
DJ Envy
Yeah. So he was, he was the guy that when you go into the post office, he can never find your package, even though it's sitting right there. You got to ask him numerous times time, please go get the package.
Mimi Brown
Yeah, so he.
Lauren LaRosa
Yep.
Mimi Brown
So that, you know, so this. So when I saw the story, it was just kind of personal because, you know, the challenge now is finding a solution that, that keeps the system running, but without putting the burden on the American people to pay the difference. Because we're already paying for so much. Right.
DJ Envy
Got you.
Jessica (Jess)
So did y' all have mail trucks or was it like snowplows? Like.
Mimi Brown
Yes, yes, we had mail trucks. We had, but it was a plow
Jessica (Jess)
on a front door. What did you say it was like, apply one of front, front.
Mimi Brown
No, it was the regular mail track like everywhere else.
DJ Envy
Let me show you this video of people in Alaska.
Mimi Brown
Do not show that video.
Jessica (Jess)
Let me say I want to see that video.
Mimi Brown
I was like, I'm so embarrassed.
Jessica (Jess)
That was the first question I asked her when she was like, oh, I'm from Alaska. I was like, okay with the, like, you know what I mean?
Mimi Brown
Well, that's a listen char center of the video. But still, I don't know those people.
Lauren LaRosa
Let me just stop.
Jessica (Jess)
Like, I'm in la.
Caller/Listener
I'm in la.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay.
Mimi Brown
And switching gears really quickly. So we're seeing a shift in how people are thinking about relationships. So more people are moving away from the traditional idea that love means living under the same roof. So new research, it shows that nearly 40% of people say they rather not live with their partner, even in a serious committed relationship. Even marriage. Well, people say that having your own space can make a relationship stronger. You keep your independence, your routine, and you're choosing each other, not just the space, but everyone's not sold. Others say living apart can create distance, making it harder to stay connected.
Caller/Listener
Yes.
Mimi Brown
Build long, long term commitment. So I think the question is, can you really build a future with someone if you're not living under the same roof?
Jessica (Jess)
I mean, you can build a future, but it's not gonna. I mean, I don't know, it's just like, who in love would not want to be up under their partner? Like not 24 7, but I can't imagine being committed, fully committed with, to somebody. And I'm not laying down with them every night, waking up to them every morning, you know, sharing experiences in the house. We cleaning up together, I'm cooking dinner, you sitting down, eating with Me watch a movie after, have some good sex, and we go to sleep, you know, just. What do you mean? What about kids? Like, go to your dad's house, but we're together.
Charlamagne Tha God
What?
Jessica (Jess)
That's a little weird to me, but two weeks to talk.
Mimi Brown
Yeah, well, it was a. It was a recent topic, too. Really quickly on the Today show, and Kiki Palmer was asked the same question. I think we have the audio of what she said.
Lauren LaRosa
I just feel like, you know, Whoopi Goldberg said it best one, she was like, I don't want a buddy in my house. Wait, wait, wait. Time out. You're for real, right?
Caller/Listener
Married.
Lauren LaRosa
Even Mary.
Jessica (Jess)
Even though around the corner.
Lauren LaRosa
Around the corner would be great. Me, the guest house. You know what I'm saying? We. We can be on the same, you know, land, but I'm over there and he's over there. At best, separate rooms.
DJ Envy
I think. I think the guest house is for the sister wife, you know what I'm saying? For everybody that's, you know, into, like, the polygamous lifestyle. Like, you might live with your, you know, main. But then your other is in the. The guest house. I think that's when it could work.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah. I mean, who's going for that?
Mimi Brown
That's the whole other topic.
DJ Envy
I mean. Yeah. I mean, because it's slim out here, man.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
I mean, well, if you don't live with your man and he gonna have a sister wife living with him, like, potentially risking if you live apart, like, I don't understand.
Charlamagne Tha God
Some people do do it, and I. I don't see it working for the majority.
DJ Envy
We talking about polygamy? Are we talking about the original topic? What's wrong with you?
Charlamagne Tha God
What's on your mind? I know, but like Jess said, there's no way I'm. I'm gonna have a committed relationship and I can't wake up next to my wife.
Jessica (Jess)
That's what I'm saying.
Charlamagne Tha God
I can't see her all the time, and we gotta go to separate houses. That's what's gonna make her cheat and
Jessica (Jess)
him cheat, and that prompts polygamy of me. There we go. So if you end up like that, then you'll end up like Charlotte. Well, no, no, I'm sorry. You'll end up like what sh. Just said.
Mimi Brown
Got it. All right, y'.
Caller/Listener
All.

Charlamagne Tha God
Now, when we come back, Raja Karuf will be joining Us. He's a NASCAR driver. Young brother, graduated from hbcu. And we're gonna talk to him next. All right. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlamagne, the Good Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Lauren Laros is here as well. We got a special guest in the building.
DJ Envy
Yes, indeed, the brother, Raja Carruth. Welcome.
Raja Karuth
Morning. Morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
How you feeling?
Raja Karuth
Great. Thank you guys for having me on.
Charlamagne Tha God
Now, who is Raja Karu for people that don't know.
Raja Karuth
So, like you said, my name is Raja. I was born in Atlanta but grew up in D.C. and I, I guess I do many things, but mainly currently I race in NASCAR, so. But yeah, HBCU graduate, grew up in D.C. and racing at NASCAR. Second highest, highest level.
Charlamagne Tha God
And how did you get into NASCAR? Like what, what got you into it?
DJ Envy
I think it's. I want to say something. Your story is very ill, cuz you, you, you, you used to drive the simulators.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
DJ Envy
You turned virtual racing into a real life career.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Raja Karuth
Have y' all seen the Gran Turismo movie? It's pretty much like that, just 10 years, I guess down the line. Coming from Caribbean parents, my dad's right here in the back. Being from St. Vincent, that's crazy because
Charlamagne Tha God
in Gran Turismo, his parents were Caribbean too.
Raja Karuth
Yeah, exactly. So, yeah, like, like you said, Charlemagne.
DJ Envy
I, I agree.
Raja Karuth
Grew up watching racing and was a big fan, but I mean, I played other sports. Like I played basketball, ran track, play soccer, but I always loved racing. And since I grew up in dc, there wasn't any, any tracks or anything nearby, so I had to get it from racing online and learning how to drive from the computer.
DJ Envy
So you did. Is that something you wanted to do or. The love came from just being on
Raja Karuth
the sim now the love came from like the cars, movie, watching races on tv. I went to my first race at Richmond and when I was probably 12, so that's where the love really, really grew. And I mean, I'd watch everything I could about racing from like sports talk shows to people playing the games online. I just was a deep, deep fan of racing.
DJ Envy
Did you ever steal your father's car?
Raja Karuth
No. I mean, I never, I never drove, So I was 15 years old. I mean, you could just take the Metro or walk or get lime scooters in D.C. so I mean, you don't really need to drive just like here. So no.
Lauren LaRosa
What's your, like, day to day like at work? So like, how does it as a NASCAR driver? So you go, you don't clock in like normal, like what is a normal day in the life of a NASCAR driver.
Raja Karuth
So basically for like, we train like endurance athletes. So we'll have our, you know, Mondays through Thursdays, whenever we return from the previous race weekend, we'll have our pre and post race debriefs with our teams. Because I think compared to other sports, racing is so different, where the driver is a key factor, but also is the car and the team and your pickup crew. So we have all our meetings with, with our engineers, our crew chiefs that are over the car development, but also our pit crew members to analyze how they can improve, how we can improve behind the wheel, and how we can get the car better. We have simulator training at our Chevy facility. Well, with every manufacturer has a big kind of training facility where we have our simulators, corporate offices, all pretty much based in North Carolina.
DJ Envy
Carolina.
Raja Karuth
And for us and me being at Chevy, I mean we're there. I'm there Monday through Thursday where we're training, we're on the simulators, we're having our meetings with our race teams and that, that's kind of our week to week basis. And then we leave on Thursdays or Fridays to go travel to wherever we race. We were at Vegas last weekend. We're in Darlington, South Carolina this weekend. So yeah, it's a. It's a traveling circus for the whole year, pretty much.
DJ Envy
They call you very analytical, cool and very composed.
Raja Karuth
I'm. I'm a nerd.
DJ Envy
I don't like. I mean, I give. I know people like to use that word, but I like, I like smart people. But how does that help you on the racetrack?
Raja Karuth
I guess, I guess to be super calculated is the way that, that helps you have to obviously use your instincts. Right. Because everything is happening within splits of a seconds, moving at hundreds of miles per hour with the wall being right next to you, other cars being right next to you, the wind being super turbulent. Yeah, you have to be. Be super aware of what's going on. And I think it speaks to my personality, but also my preparation of just being that calculated and prepared for whatever situations may arise.
DJ Envy
The simulated to actually being on the track.
Raja Karuth
I'd say it's pretty close, but it's. You can never replicate real life because there's weather, there's maybe a new bump that develops in a racetrack that you can't forecast. There's new rule changes every time. But what's great about the simulator is that that the one we have at Chevrolet, it has our. Literally every part and piece of the car is replicated on there to where we can drive and change whether it's a piece of the suspension, move, a body panel, a certain way to see if it'll work in real Life. And then nine times out of 10, it's perfect for what we have to do at the racetrack. So it's super, super important, and it's great practice for us drivers just to be able to get repetition on the corners. It's kind of like tap dancing with how we're using the brake and the gas pedal and all the instruments and the, the car.
Charlamagne Tha God
Salute to John Cohen. He was, he's a black race car owner. He owns a team. New York City Race team is his team. He was telling me how difficult it is to find members because he was like, it's so detailed.
Raja Karuth
So break down.
Charlamagne Tha God
You talked about the team, how important everybody is from the pit crew and what they have to do, but if they mess up, that affects your time
Raja Karuth
and it's the whole race, so break that down.
Charlamagne Tha God
Because people only see the driver at most of the times. But if your crew ain't right, if this ain't right, if the guy you're talking to ain't right, to break that down of how detailed and, and how difficult that part is.
Raja Karuth
Yeah, for sure. It's very similar to, I think, special teams in the NFL. I mean, every member of the team is important, from our hauler driver that drives the equipment to the racetrack and making sure it gets there safe, to our spotters that are on top of the highest point on the track and communicating with us drivers to our pit crew members. Like you mentioned, if one of our wheels aren't tight, then that's a day ender, whether it's damaging the wheel or causing us to crash. Not to mention how important it is to have the car set up as close as it can be to, you know, be able to drive to the front. So our teams are super important. And as much as the driver is the face, racing is as much of a team sport as anything because it's not just the one star person, it's the whole team that matters and helps to get the job done.
Charlamagne Tha God
How competitive is it? You know, we look at these movies, right, and we see these races and they're cutting each other off and they're cursing, and sometimes you see them fighting after. How competitive is it and what's the respect level on the track? Like, sometimes you're not supposed to do that, but I just thought it's. It is what it is.
Raja Karuth
Yeah. I mean, there's definitely, definitely different etiquette. And you kind of see the old. The old guard of drivers being different from the new guard of drivers. And it kind of speaks to people's personalities, right? Where there's. There's a certain situation where, hey, I'm going to do this to you, because I know you would do it to me, whether it's throwing a block or putting somebody in a tight scenario. So it's just different etiquettes. Everybody's got different etiquettes. And I think what's cool about NASCAR is it's a contact sport where in other forms of racing, Whether it's Formula One, IndyCar, the racing etiquette is just different just because of contact sport.
Charlamagne Tha God
Contact means we touching each other.
Raja Karuth
Yeah, it's normal. It's normal. If anything you can. At certain tracks, like Atlanta or Daytona, it's important to push somebody else because it gives yourself a better chance at winning. So there's, there's levels to the contact that are required.
Caller/Listener
Required.
Raja Karuth
Not. Not every time, because then you'll damage your car and it'll be slower. But it's. It's important because it's just the, the true etiquette of, of the racing of NASCAR that makes it super cool.
Lauren LaRosa
So you know how, like, with basketball players, like, or football players, right, when you're training, you watching tape, you kind
Raja Karuth
of know same thing.
Lauren LaRosa
Do what. So you know what drivers like, their little tricks.
Raja Karuth
Exactly. Yeah. So we have like a GPS program that records every race and you can look at every car and see literally every lap of the race and see. See. All right. They decided to do this move here because of what they saw in front of them or what they felt in the car. We can see how they're steering, how they're braking, how they're using the gas, the literally the G forces that they're creating in the car. It's. That's our way to study film. It's just analyzing each race, every practice, every time, trial session, that. That's kind of the equivalent for it for us.
Jessica (Jess)
What's been the biggest challenge, stepping into the. The NASCAR national spot? Like, honestly, the regular track, I would
Raja Karuth
say for me, it's. I'm a pretty introverted person, so being comfortable with being as approachable at the racetrack to fans was an adjustment for me. But honestly, like, in the sport, like, everybody's been cool for the most part, like, because I have the interest, the passion and the work to go with it. Like, everybody's been super cool. So I definitely will say, to mention you mentioned before getting to this level, it definitely was harder to get my foot in the door from a. Not only starting so late, but coming from my background, that made it in immensely more harder than it would be for. Maybe I shouldn't say that because everybody's grind is different, but I think personally, like, it was way harder to get in the door than it has been to kind of climb through the ladder.
Charlamagne Tha God
How did you get your foot in the door?
DJ Envy
I was gonna ask.
Charlamagne Tha God
How did you get your foot in the door?
Raja Karuth
Yeah, so. So for me, I started racing on the simulator. I was 15 or 16, and I started to go to races and hand out business cards and say, hey, I'm a young driver trying to make a name for myself racing online. NASCAR had a driver development program that I applied for in 2019, and they had a whole combine tryout where it was not just how well you can drive, it's what your physicality is, how strong you are, how you handle press, how you handle. Handle your team, communication, just seeing all the. All the traits that are required to really be a successful driver. And I did well enough in that program in 2019 to come on and get developed through the kind of regional levels of. Of nascar, where we raced in. In parts of South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, just kind of getting the. The real sticks of it. And that's really how I got started. So. And that was super hard just because I was coming from growing up in D.C. where, I mean, I just. I was. It was normal to exist, right? And being in those places where I was not only a lot of times the youngest person, but the youngest black person in the room where. I mean, I moved from D.C. when I was 18. I was living in North Carolina by myself while I was going to school at Winston, at the race shop, at the track. I was pretty much, a lot of times the only person that looked like me. So I think that was a. Definitely a challenge to get started. But it just really allowed me to get confident in. In my identity, really, my Caribbean background, my raising, my education. And that helped me really persevere.
DJ Envy
Let's talk about that. Right? You came through simulation like you said, and you're a young black man. Do you ever feel like you're disrupting the culture of NASCAR or do you feel pressure to prove you belong in it?
Raja Karuth
I think I'm definitely breaking the mold for sure. And I really have an appreciation for the teams that I'm at where they've seen me as. Not just as a. As a. Not as I'm only here for a certain reason. They see me for. For not only my ability, but how I'm showing up and how I'm prepared to perform and taking the accountability and doing the work and really performing well when it matters the most.
DJ Envy
So when you walk in a garage, right, that historically hasn't looked like you. Are you thinking about winning races or are you just trying to change narratives?
Raja Karuth
I think they work hand in hand. I think the success on the track is going to help everything else. And I have such a deep appreciation for the sport of NASCAR in particular and racing as a whole, that I know all the other stuff will come naturally as long as I keep the main thing, the main thing, which is trying to be the best driver that I can.
DJ Envy
You heard what he said, Keep the main thing, the main thing. That's a jewel. A lot of people don't do that. You know what I mean? They try to do all the side quests. You got to keep the main thing, the main thing.
Lauren LaRosa
I saw Bubba Wallace praise you for opening the season with the top. With three top 10 finishes while driving for two different teams. And we know that he's had, like, you know, issues when it comes to race and different things within nascar. What's your relationship like with Bubba?
Raja Karuth
Yeah, that's a big bro. That's a big bro. I mean, literally, from my first ever regional race, he's been there every. Every step of the way. And it's super important to have somebody like that in your corner that's paying attention and knows kind of the. The cards you've been dealt.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Raja Karuth
And it's been great to have him in my corner. And I mean, we. Although we're at 2, he's with Toyota, I'm with Chevrolet. I mean, he's been there every step of the way for me. So that's big bro. And it's been great because the things that he's had to endure, he's allowed it to where for drivers like myself, like Lavar Scott, that are in the wings and coming up that we don't have to deal with, with those certain things and the. In that same vein, that's how Wendell Scott did it for him and Willie T. Ribs and Bill Lester and all those, you know, before us.
DJ Envy
Is that car sponsorship thing, like, really that big of a deal? Because you said it like, I'm Chevy and he Toyota. Like I'm.
Raja Karuth
I mean, it's serious. It's serious because, I mean, the manufacturers are really what drive NASCAR at the end of the day, where in other sports Right. There's the owners of the teams. I think the owners of NASCAR are a big deal as well, but so are the manufacturers, because, I mean, those are the cars that we're driving at the end of the day. So that's a big role. They play a huge, huge role in our sport.
DJ Envy
Can you switch sides or you got to be Chevy for life?
Raja Karuth
I mean, I don't want to leave Chevy for sure. I mean, it's not uncommon for people to leave manufacturers, and that can be because, hey, the team closed or they need to swap or they have a new guy that bumps an old guy out of the seat. So it's kind of more a case by case scenario. But what's different in NASCAR compared to other sports is that right in the NBA, the NFL, mlb, you have these annual drafts and there's always a rotation of young talent in racing. There's only 40 guys at the cup level, and there's maybe one or two seats that turn over over on an annual basis. So there's just a lot of young drivers trying to come up through the ladder and very few spots to go into. So you have to set yourself apart. And that's why, for the most part, you don't see a young driver in the cup series that is 18 every. You only see that every once in a while. Otherwise, you only see drivers make their first cup starts when they're mid-20s, plus or minus a few years, maybe even early 30s, just because of how there's not as much turnover at the top level.
DJ Envy
What's the biggest mental adjustment you had to make when. When the consequences from like just being able to reset the game turning. I'm actually in a car and I'm. This is real life.
Raja Karuth
That's a great question. Literally, my. My second race, I hit the wall on the second lap and I was like, dang, this is not as easy as I thought it would be. I remember like the first time I flipped, the first time I crashed somebody else or my. Myself. But those experiences are like super important because those mistakes allow you not to make them again. And those lessons are super important. So adjusting from the SIM to real life, honestly, it wasn't too hard from the athletic standpoint because I had that background of playing other sports growing up. So I wasn't tired from a physical stance. It just was what immensely required to be aware of how the tire feels, how you feel in air, and the spacing of being close to the wall or other people. I think that was the adjustment that I had to make as I You know, grew my experience racing regionally before going to the national level.
Charlamagne Tha God
Now, you said flipped over. What happened with that race?
Raja Karuth
Okay, so that race. I was in a dirt race where it was. It was a race for practice. And we. A lot of times natural drivers will go race on dirt, race, go karts, race, other forms of racing to really get better at what we do.
DJ Envy
And.
Raja Karuth
And I was racing on dirt, and I. Somebody hit the wall and I tried to avoid him, and it's dirt, so you, like, can't really stop. And I. Next thing I knew, I was like, barrel rolling and it Is that scary? No, it just hurt.
Charlamagne Tha God
It wasn't scary.
Raja Karuth
Yeah. I mean. No. The thing is, the thing about flipping is it's not the flipping that is the issue is if. When you stop abruptly or you land, that's the part where people get hurt, whether they land. Land, you know, flat on the. On the bottom of the. Yeah, the impact. And they'll have back injuries and stuff like that or have a. Just a sudden stop. So if anything, flipping isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just whenever you abruptly stop. So. Didn't feel great, but now I know.
DJ Envy
How do you know you're not gonna die?
Raja Karuth
Yeah, I mean, we have faith in. In our. Our safety. I mean, there's so many advancements that they've made over the last 25 years that make it aware of. It's not a thing that. I mean, we don't take it for granted for sure, but the cars are way safer than they used to be. I mean, our head and neck restraint systems are super good. I mean, we're. Our seats are literally crafted to our. Our stature. Our bodies. So we're like. We're literally not like, locked in the seat, but like, pretty much memory foam to our body to make sure that we're not moving around a lot whenever we have those crashes.
Jessica (Jess)
And that was the worst thing that ever happened to you? Like the worst accident that you've had?
Raja Karuth
Well, yeah, so far.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Raja Karuth
Yeah. I mean, and crashes are honestly just a part of. Of racing. I mean, you. That's something you accept because it's just part of what we do. I mean, we're going so fast, we're so close to each other, there's bound to be incidents from time to time. I mean, I crashed two weeks ago. I mean, it's.
Lauren LaRosa
It's normal you say so regularly.
Charlamagne Tha God
So when. When you're not racing and you're in your personal car, do people pull up to you and be like, let's race because they know it's you.
Raja Karuth
Honestly, no. But the thing is I don't have like a, a super fast like normal car car. I have, well, I have a Chevy Traverse. But my, my fun car is a Chevy SS 2017. And that car is nice because I can just keep it on like the Tour like easy gas mode so it's not super loud. But I can like change the exhaust with a little dial in there to like, you know, open them up and have it be a little bit louder.
DJ Envy
But you're not even allowed to drive nothing but Chevy, period.
Raja Karuth
I mean, I'm sure you could, but I mean. No, I, I know. I mean I could, but I mean I don't really want to. I like to like what I've got
DJ Envy
right now, like being signed to Jordan. Why would you want other sneakers if you signage yours?
Raja Karuth
Great point. Exactly.
Lauren LaRosa
If somebody is like coming up and wants to be in your position with

nascar, we know parents want to feel confident as their teens navigate social media. With Instagram teen accounts, teens get automatic protections by default. Teens between the ages of 13 to 17 are automatically put into a protective experience. That means they get built in content settings for what they see, contact limits on who can contact them, and time management tools like daily time limit reminders, as well as sleep mode, which mutes notifications from 10pm to 7am plus, teens under 16 need a parent's permission to change any of these settings to be less strict. Instagram continues to work on building new safety features to help create age appropriate experiences for teens. teenaccounts this past weekend, like every other Sunday, you were on the call court with the guys playing ball. Just a quick pickup game, living out your hoop dreams. No triple doubles, but mean set of threes in between buckets. One of the homies mentioned he closed on a new crib. This is big. And while everyone's asking about housewarming and making plans to celebrate, you're asking the real questions. Like, has he spoken to his State Farm agent yet about coverage? See, homeownership is one thing, but the right coverage is the real game. Game changer. Even more than your last hot streak, it's how you protect your legacy. Dropping buckets and bars on the court. A State Farm agent can more than assist you with finding the right coverage for your new place. If you have a claim, your local agent can help you file it. Yep, that's right. Over the phone, in person online or on the app, they are ready to help you and they don't drop the ball. You know what I mean? Like a good neighbor. State Farm is not there.
Lauren LaRosa
Hey y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. Okay, let's talk curls for a second because you already know if you have curly or coily hair. Moisture is not optional, it's essential. Dryness is one of the biggest challenges for curly hair and most products they clock out after wash day. The new Ultra Moisture collection was literally designed with our hair in mind. Curls, coils, all of it powered by Botano oil and Jamaican Black castor oil, which means the science is actually doing the work. Work clinically proven to help retain moisture for up to five days. Five whole days. The shampoo gently cleanses without stripping. The mask deeply, conditions and helps reduce breakage. The leave in adds a lightweight hydration with hyaluronic acid. And the curl cream defines without crunch. No sulfates, no parabens, no silicones, no mineral oil. Just nourishment without the compromise. Because here's the thing your hair deserves products that actually understand moisture that starts at the root and keeps going. Well past Sunday, that's the Ultra Moisture collection from Cantu Explore, their full line built for every curl pattern, every hair routine available now at Walmart, Target and Amazon. Go get it. Every find has a story. Like if you're looking for a vintage band tee. Not just a tee, the band tee from the last show your favorite band ever played. You wore it everywhere. Then your girlfriend started wearing it, which was cool until she dumped you and took it with her, which was not so cool. Anyway, now you're on ebay. And there it is. Same tee from the same tour. Still living in your memory rent free forever. See, the things you love have a way of finding their way back to you. But ebay isn't just for getting what your ex stole back. It's also for that rare championship foul ball you caught, then heroically gave it to the kid next to you. And where else are you going to find your first car, the one you wish you never sold but now finally get the chance to take back home for good this time. You know, I'm a collector of cars and sometimes I'm looking for the right rim that I had when I was a kid. Yeah, it might have been 20 years ago, but I want that same feeling. And the only way I could find it is on ebay. Shop ebay for millions of finds, each with a story. EBay, things people love.
Lauren LaRosa
What should they be doing? Like branding wise, like on social and stuff like that. Outside his learning skill, I think you
Raja Karuth
just got to set yourself apart. Where for me my background was sim racing. So I mean I've been twitch streaming for years. I mean from when I had five viewers to now, you know, 100 or so where I'm just streaming while I'm driving and racing and talking to people in the chat. And that's something that other others can do. Whether it's documenting their days at the go kart track or hey, this is the workout I did or this is the film that I studied. Just kind of showcasing what makes them unique. I think it's the biggest thing that that works. There's so many, there's so much uniqueness out there that I don't think that people need to try to follow directly what other drivers or what other people do. I think it's important to keep that identity that and just be themselves at the end of the day, you know,
DJ Envy
there aren't a lot of black drivers at your level. Do you embrace that responsibility or do you wish I would just race without carrying that weight?
Raja Karuth
I'm just not weight. I think it's a responsibility I cherish. I think it's, it's. For me to have more people like us at the track is, is fun because I have that love for racing and if I can share that to more of us us then I can, you know, I can be very proud of that.
DJ Envy
Well, I am proud to say that this weekend at the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Part Series on Saturday, Araja will compete in a Black Effect podcast network. Camaro. I can't wait to see black, all black running around.
Charlamagne Tha God
You have a picture so we can see it. I would love to see it. It's fine. I can't wait to see it.
Lauren LaRosa
Design the rap with the brand.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, that's hard.
Lauren LaRosa
It's real sleek.
DJ Envy
That's very disruptive.
Lauren LaRosa
Hell yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
Black and white.
DJ Envy
Yeah, black and disruptive.
Raja Karuth
I like to buy cars.
Charlamagne Tha God
Congratulations, man. I love that.
Raja Karuth
Yeah, I appreciate you, Carolina.
Charlamagne Tha God
Let me see if I can pull up. I would love to see that.
Raja Karuth
I gotta say thank you. You know, I think for me, like, I. I met Chico last year, or actually a couple years ago from 85 south at Winston Salem and one. Yeah.
DJ Envy
And Dolly Bishop, the president up. The Black Effect.
Raja Karuth
Yeah, that's dope. Yeah. So, yeah, I've definitely been familiar with you guys, and I'm super excited to showcase y' all this weekend.
DJ Envy
No, man, I love. I love what you represent, like, you know, even outside of just, you know, driving the car, just the fact that, you know, the way you carry yourself and just how smart you are, I just think that.
Raja Karuth
I appreciate that, you know?
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah.
DJ Envy
What does success look like for you beyond trophies?
Raja Karuth
I think for me, I've really learned, and this is something therapy has helped me with, is that to define success outside of the. The accolades and the stats on the track. So I think for me, if I can leave the sport whenever I'm done driving, which is hopefully a long time from now, not only better than it was when I got here, but to where we have a renowned presence in the sport, then I can be proud of. Of how. I guess that would be success for me. Because, of course, every. Every driver, every athlete wants to be the best. Best and be great at their profession from a stats or. Or achievement perspective. But there's more, I guess, out there than just getting those results on the track, and they're still important because I think a lot of times without those results, you can't have the other things. But I would say the success for me is. Is deeper than just getting the dubs on the track.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, good luck this weekend.
DJ Envy
We're gonna be watching.
Charlamagne Tha God
Make sure you check it out. What channel is it on?
Raja Karuth
You know, cw.
DJ Envy
Cw.
Charlamagne Tha God
On the cw. So definitely check it out. Raja Crow Roof. Good luck.
Raja Karuth
Thank you, guys. Appreciate y'.
Caller/Listener
All.
Charlamagne Tha God
Appreciate you for joining us this morning.
DJ Envy
If they want to follow you or anything, where they do that at?

I wanted to send congratulations to Tamar Hall. Her show was renewed for. Hey, yeah, another season.
Jessica (Jess)
Congrats big time. Damn.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, and I mean, you know, all the daytime TV shakeups and all things that are happening. Just wanted to make sure we shot at her out and said congratulations her for that because the shows are getting pushed out of here.
DJ Envy
Yeah. I salute to tange. I'm going to include M. Tamara hall because she always gives the less fortunate great opportunities to appear on our show.
Lauren LaRosa
You calling me less fortunate?
Jessica (Jess)
What you talking about? Ora tisa?
Raja Karuth
What are you talking about?
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, cuz, say what you mean and mean what you said.
DJ Envy
I've been on this show.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
DJ Envy
I'm about to say I found that
Lauren LaRosa
joke, said it and looked over here.
DJ Envy
We've all been on there. I hope Jess gets on there.
Jessica (Jess)
She got a book coming out, period.
DJ Envy
I'm just saying, damn. She looks out for the less fortunate.
Charlamagne Tha God
Damn.
Lauren LaRosa
Stop doubling. Stop doubling. All right, y' all moving on. I know y' all talked about this a bit in the opening of the show. I heard the UN Are back outside this summer. Y' all are really excited because yesterday Jay Z Roc Nation announced that Jay Z is going to be doing two shows on July 10 and July 11 at Yankee Stadium celebrating 30, the 30 year anniversary of Reasonable Doubt.
DJ Envy
Come on now.
Lauren LaRosa
In the 25, 25 year anniversary of
Charlamagne Tha God
the Blueprint, if you don't talk like that, you're not invited.
Lauren LaRosa
Shut up.
Jessica (Jess)
Now.
Lauren LaRosa
I wanted to make mention because y' all were talking about earlier just like tickets and all those things, right? So I saw yesterday that line S who we know you know is is right there with Jay Z all the time.
Caller/Listener
Time.
Lauren LaRosa
He posted that 400 plus people text him about free tickets yesterday and he wants to make it clear that he does not have any tickets. He's trying to figure out if he's going to have a ticket himself.
DJ Envy
Damn.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, so that's that. That's already going.
Charlamagne Tha God
He going to have a ticket. But don't call him cuz he ain't giving away tickets.
Lauren LaRosa
But you know why I brought this back up? Because a what a month ago when I told y' all something was happening with Jay Z thought I was crazy.
Jessica (Jess)
Sure did.
Lauren LaRosa
When he changed his name on the streaming services.
Jessica (Jess)
But something was coming down the pipeline and it came.
Lauren LaRosa
Thank you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Pause.
Lauren LaRosa
Remember I told you guys that Jay Z had changed his name across all the DSPs? He had changed it.
DJ Envy
No, we didn't think he was crazy. We thought you was crazy for, you know, thinking that the two dots over the Y meant anything.
Lauren LaRosa
I mean, that's how his name was. That's how his name was listed when reasonable without came out. And then he changed it because they wanted to like clean up the way that it was appearing places we all knew. Anyway, thank you. I appreciate it.
DJ Envy
Came out June 25, 1990. 96, baby.
Lauren LaRosa
All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
I think I announced some more stuff too.
Lauren LaRosa
They are. I. I think they are.
Jessica (Jess)
There's a lot shows is obviously not enough.
Charlamagne Tha God
He has to do something in Brooklyn. So it just. I just feel like he has.
Lauren LaRosa
And there's been that rumor about whether or not he grabbed some dates at the Barclay, but nothing has been confirmed. So we'll. We'll keep watching. Now another things that we're watching. So yesterday this story broke. TMZ did an exclusive. They said that they received a cease and desist that Rick Ross sent Remy Ma. Now this season disappointed. This is about a movie called the Biggest Boss or that was called the Biggest Boss. And I'll explain why I say was that will be releasing on Remy Ma's the Remy network, which is where she does like a bunch of different media. Now, according to the letter, Rick Ross's attorneys say that the movie is confusing fans. It's. It's making them think that Rick Ross has something to do with the movie. They're talking about the comments and stuff that were under the trailer that was posted on Instagram, uh, that, that fans are confused and the fact that his music was used in his trade name, the Biggest Boss. So they're demanding. So they're demanding that the. That the project be halted right now on face value. That sounds like it's. That's fair right now. I talked to Remy Ma last night and Remy Ma, she was kind of confused because she. Her team received the cease and desist and before it even got to tmz. Before it even hit the media, everything was already taken care of because, you know, Remy's like, like, look, I'm in this business as well. I'm fair. It was an honest mistake that was made by somebody on her content team. The movie itself isn't even out. It was a trailer that was posted to promote the movie on Instagram that had, you know, the music and then it was called the Biggest Boss, but they had already changed the name, took it down, the music, and everything had been changed before the story even hit the media. So she's confused why it even had to get to media because her and Rick Ross have had a relationship for 20 plus years.
Jessica (Jess)
Right. I was going to ask you, was there any prior beef or like, what's that, what happened?
Lauren LaRosa
No, not that she knows of. And she says that, you know, she reached out to Rick Ross to have a conversation about, you know, what happened and the fact that it even got this far to TMZ and that I know of. As I checked in this morning, he had not returned her phone call. So she's kind of confused why he didn't just pick up the phone and call her. But she said she made things right way before this hit the media because, you know, that wasn't their intent. She wasn't trying to be malicious. It was just an honest mistake and it was corrected right away.
DJ Envy
And. And you know, Remy is the owner of the network, so it's not like she personally put that together. Because it's user generated content, right?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
User generated content. And, you know, I think they're leaning into the fact that like, that the movie is about someone who was a CEO and then he uses like those experiences to become music artists. And then he goes on, he's setting people up and all these things in the movie, not Rick Ross. And she's like, I hope that that's not, you know, that similar to your storyline. But hey, you know what I mean?
Jessica (Jess)
But.
DJ Envy
But it's not. It's all the details that you just described, using of the music, that's his trademark, the Biggest Boss. I completely understand it from a bigger business perspective.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, but it flips in that movie too. Little flips in there. Red Cafe is in there, Sasha. The Valley's in there. The Valley is in there. Yeah, yeah.
DJ Envy
Dropping a clue, Sasha. That's the home.
Lauren LaRosa
But, but yeah, I mean, Remy understood the business aspect of it too. That's what she's saying. It's like, I got it. You could have just called me. And for people that are wondering now, because, you know, now.
DJ Envy
Yesterday.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, I spoke to Remy yesterday.
DJ Envy
Press you?
Lauren LaRosa
No, she definitely pressed me. She did not. I reached out to her publicist. Earn. Shout out to earn. Dudes, what up? Yeah. And I was like, hey, I'm a bit confused about this because I, I. That I knew of. I thought Remy had a relationship with Rick Ross. Why did a cease and desist have to be sent? So then he called me and was like, hey, can I put, you know, can I put Remy on the phone? And we talked.
Jessica (Jess)
We had a conversation about me.
Lauren LaRosa
She didn't say nothing about you. She didn't press me.
DJ Envy
We had a conversation that you be doing up here.
Lauren LaRosa
We did have my little first. What he called me earlier. The less fortunate. Now it's my little reporting.
DJ Envy
I'm the less fortunate anyway.
Lauren LaRosa
Well, we did have a conversation about, you know, things. Things just always being fair. But it wasn't. It's nothing that we're going to bring here because it was all positive energy and Remy has the. The her network. Remy network. We're not going to bring that energy in here because Remy is out the way building her businesses, being the mogul she is. So you lead that. Drop all that somewhere else. And if you guys are looking to get your content on the Remy. My network, you can email rush.com.
DJ Envy
let me say it again. I didn't hear it.
Lauren LaRosa
You can email rushy network.com for. If you want to, you know, submit movies. Because now because of all this coverage, people are like, oh, I didn't even know that was happening. How can we get movies?
Charlamagne Tha God
Do that promo. Do that promo.
Jessica (Jess)
That's right. Love you, Remy.
DJ Envy
After you hung up with Remy, did you feel like you needed to call top dog? Love,
Lauren LaRosa
yo. I love Remy. We had a great conversation. Y' all are focused on the wrong things. And that's a part of. That's a part of the problem. People being focused on the wrong thing.
DJ Envy
That's what she told you, huh?
Lauren LaRosa
You know what?
DJ Envy
Le you learn fast. She learn fast. Are you dumb?
Charlamagne Tha God
I know. She said that a couple times.
Lauren LaRosa
She did not.
DJ Envy
Are you dumb?
Lauren LaRosa
Please apologize for the company I keep. Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
Good job.
Jessica (Jess)

Charlamagne Tha God

DJ Envy

Jessica (Jess)
What accountability are you taking me off guard?
DJ Envy
I'm not making I'm the breakfast club. That being said, I want to say
Charlamagne Tha God
start off with this donkey right here.
DJ Envy
Yup donkey Today for Thursday, March 19th goes to Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky. Now why am I giving Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky the biggest he hardest morning? Well, because if you was listening to front page news this morning with Mimi Browns and you heard her report the story about Senator Rand Paul confronting Senator Mark Wayne Mullen at what has been called a heated DHS confirmation hearing. Now let me explain something. Senator Mark Weyland Mullen is a Republican from Oklahoma and he appeared before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for a confirmation hearing on his nomination to replace Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Now let me be the first to tell you, I don't know anything about Senator Mark Wayne Mullen. So this donkey of the day is coming strictly from what I saw in this hearing yesterday. Off top. Senator Rand Paul does not like Senator Mark Wayne Mullen. Okay? There is a clear disdain, there is a clear bias. There is nothing Senator Mark Wayne Mullen could have done or said in that hearing hearing to get Senator Rand Paul's get Senator Rand Paul to vote for him. Okay? Now, I don't know if that's fair. I would think you would have to be somewhat objective in these hearings. But it's impossible. Okay? It's impossible. Especially when we talking about partisan politics. These folks gonna rep they side they're gonna rep they set Red gonna bang on blue. Blue gonna bang on red. But this is interesting because Senator Rand Paul is a Republican and Republicans don't fall in love. They fall in line. But Rand Paul is not falling in line here. No, no, no. He was letting it be known from the beginning. I don't f. With you.
Jessica (Jess)
Why?
DJ Envy
Because Senator Rand Paul, once upon a time in 2017, got beat up. All right? His neighbor, a retired anesthesiologist named Renee Boucher, put hands on him, okay? They had some dispute over yard waste, and I don't know what words were exchanged, but it's clear that Renee got to the point where he couldn't take it no more. He was fed up. So he beat random Paul up, okay? Left him with six broken ribs and a bruised lung. Let's go to Local 12 News to hear that story. Kentucky Senator Paul. Rand Paul is speaking out about the moment his neighbor attacked him. Paul says violence caught him off guard. Dr. Renee Boucher assaulted Paul eight months ago at his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Now, Boucher recently pleaded guilty to assaulting the sitting senator back in November. He says Paul kept leaving brush piles close to his property. Eventually, Boucher said he got fed up and he ambushed Paul.
Charlamagne Tha God
He was running so hard that the two of us, by the time he hit me, probably carried 10ft down the hill. I mean, this was an impact. My doctors have said that they've almost never seen six ribs broken in an assault. It's usually a car accident.
DJ Envy
Senator Paul says he never knew his neighbor was that upset about the brush piles. The judge sentenced Boucher to 30 days in prison, but Paul is appealing to get that changed. At 21 months behind bar is countersuing Paul, his wife, and their homeowners association. Hey, keep your guard up at all times, okay? Senator Rand Paul is holding a grudge, all right? He does not like the fact that Senator Mark Wayne Mullen once once suggested he understood why the neighbor attacked Paul. Let's go to Meet the Press now for the report, please.
Charlamagne Tha God
We are following developments on Capitol Hill
Lauren LaRosa
and a potential setback for the president's
Charlamagne Tha God
pick to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
Jessica (Jess)
Senator Rand Paul, the Republican chair of
Charlamagne Tha God
the Senate Homeland Security Committee, announcing he
Mimi Brown
will oppose fellow Senator Mark Wayne Mullen's
Lauren LaRosa
nomination to be DHS secretary when his committee votes tomorrow. Paul making that announcement after leaving Mullen's
Mimi Brown
confirmation hearing today, a hearing that began
Charlamagne Tha God
with this heated exchange between the two. You told the media that I was a freaking snake and that you completely understood why I had been assaulted. Assaulted. Tell the world why you believe I deserve to be assaulted from behind, have six ribs broken and a damaged lung. Tell me to my face. And while you're at it. Explain to the American public why they should trust a man with anger issues.
DJ Envy
I simply addressed that.
Charlamagne Tha God
I said I could understand because of
DJ Envy
the behavior you were having. I could understand why your neighbor, by
Charlamagne Tha God
the neighbor, did what he did.
DJ Envy
And as far as me saying that
Charlamagne Tha God
I invoke violence, I don't. And you offer no apology to day and no regrets. And I'm not apologizing for pointing out your Good, good. So you're. You're jolly well fine. And you want the American public and the people up here to vote that may or may not vote for you to know that you supported the felonious, violent attack on me from behind?
DJ Envy
I did not say I supported it.
Charlamagne Tha God
I said understood it.
DJ Envy
Felonious, violent attack from behind. Won't you threaten envy with a good time? First of all, dropping the clues bombs for Senator Markway Mullen. All right? Now, you know your Uncle Charlotte is not smarter than the average bear. God is still working on me, okay? I was in therapy this week, literally talking to my therapist about people I want to hurt. When I say hurt, I don't necessarily mean physically. Just there's people out there I could easily destroy. And as humans, we want. We want to sometime, okay? But the reality is, it's never really worth it. You got to let these devils be devils because it gives God the opportunity. Opportunity to show people how anointed you are. Okay? God is always waiting for the opportunity to show these demons why you shouldn't play with his children. But my ministry was not Rene Bouch's ministry. Renee decided he wanted to put hands and feet on Senator Rand Paul. Senator Mark Wayne Mullen knows Rand Paul. And in his mind, Rand Paul deserved to get his ass kicked. Okay, See, Rand Paul, you were trying to make Senator Markway Mullen look bad by bringing up the. The fact he said he understood why the neighbor attacked you. Well, I don't think it made him look bad at all. Especially if he thinks you are somebody who needed to get beat up. Why do we act like we all don't know someone who deserves to get hands put on them? Okay, look, in my life, I didn't put hands on people, and I done got hands put on me. And I think pretty much for the most part, the times I got hands put on me, I deserved it. Okay? See, it's not up to you to determine whether or not someone kicks your ass.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay?
DJ Envy
Don't get me wrong. Wrong, There are random acts of violence, okay? There are times when physical violence is not justified. But if your neighbor who is an anesthesiologist, okay? Who you have probably had long time disputes with the person who lives right next to you. If you and your neighbor are having what was called a long running landscape dispute over debris, that means your neighbor has thought about this, okay? He really sat sitting over his frosted flakes and said to himself, one day, I'm gonna have to F this dude dude up. Okay? He did his jail math. He probably calculated all the cost. How much is the lawyer? How much is the bail? He knew you were sitting sending a rampall, and he still said, nah, this is gonna be worth it. Look, Rand Paul, I don't know you. You might be a great guy, but your neighbor didn't think so. And Senator Mark Wayne Mullen, who actually knows you didn't think so. Hell, if I. I bet if I pulled, you know, some other elected officials to the side, they would probably say, nah, he deserved to get his ass kicked. I've been wanting to do it myself for years. All I'm saying, sir, is we don't have time for this type of petty, okay? In a confirmation hearing, you can't lead with a personal grievance over policy. I don't want to see two guys with personal history settling scores on the national stage. Don't take it out on Senator Mullen, Rand Paul. Go get your. Get back with your neighbor Renee Bucha, okay? That's who you really got smoke with? He's the one who broke six of your ribs, okay? Gave you a felonist violent assault for. From the back, all right? Now, if you got an issue with Senator Mullen's temperament, fair. Completely understand. If you feel like he. He's downplayed political violence, so he might not be fit to run dhs. I overstand. But if you mad because he don't like you and he thinks you are someone worthy of getting beat up, well, that's lame. Okay? Raising concerns about endorsing or minimizing violence, valid. But being upset because he thinks you. You should have gotten beat up. That's emotion. That's personal. That's petty. Please let Remy Ma give Senator Rand Paul the biggest Hee haw.
Charlamagne Tha God
He haw.
Jessica (Jess)
Hee ha.
Lauren LaRosa
You stupid?
Jessica (Jess)
Are you dumb?
DJ Envy
That's why I always gotta hear both sides. Yeah, I need to hear both sides.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah.
Caller/Listener
All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, thank you for that donkey today.
DJ Envy
Yes, ma'.
Jessica (Jess)
Am.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right, when we come back, just fix my mess. 800-585-1051. If you're having relationship issues or problems, you can call her up right now. Now, it's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Lauren LaRosa
It's the real deal.
DJ Envy
Help me, help me.
Jessica (Jess)
Oh my God. I'm all up in your mess. I'mma fix it, fix it, Fix my mess. Fix it, fix it J Go fix your mess Cuz my advice is real.
Charlamagne Tha God
Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. It's time for Jess Fix my mess. Hello? Who's this?
Caller/Listener
Hi, this is Ashley.
Jessica (Jess)
Hey, Ashley.
Charlamagne Tha God
What's your question for.
Caller/Listener
Hey, Jess. So I'm currently in hearing a little feedback. I'm sorry. I'm currently in a strange relationship with my husband. Right. And so we have three children together. One is 11, one is nine, and one is six. Well, when he left the home, he was dating this girl. And she and I, we never got along. He's 44 and she's 28. And so he left. They started a relationship. That's fine. We're still legally married. Well, they recently broke up and we just found out a couple of days ago that they are now back together. And my son found out because they were sharing a screen and he saw the text messages of their conversation. The problem that we're running into is that the children cannot stand this girl. And so I'm trying to figure out what's the best way to communicate to him that the relationship that he has with this girl is very toxic. And our children are devastated about their reconciliation.
Jessica (Jess)
How old are you?
Caller/Listener
I'm 38.
Jessica (Jess)
And how old your husband?
Caller/Listener
44.
Jessica (Jess)
I thought you said somebody was 24 and 28.
Caller/Listener
No, she was 28. She's 28.
Jessica (Jess)
Oh, the girlfriend is 28.
Caller/Listener
Clock it.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay. How. I know that's right. How. How are y' all still married? Let's just start there. Like, there's no. You guys aren't looking to get a. Yeah, like, why are you guys still married?
Caller/Listener
Yeah, the legalities of it. Honestly, the paperwork work.
Jessica (Jess)
Cheaper to keep her type ish or like, what is it?
Caller/Listener
I'm sorry, say it again.
Jessica (Jess)
It was like, cheaper to keep her type ish. Like, you know what I mean?
Caller/Listener
Oh, no, absolutely not. No, no, no. I think it's just honestly, being lazy. Not dragging ourselves to the courthouse. Yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
Because this just sounds crazy, the whole headline of it. This is your husband, Your husband's girlfriend, whom you have a problem with, is actually affecting the co parenting relationship.
Charlamagne Tha God
Huh?
Caller/Listener
For sure.
Lauren LaRosa
That is crazy.
Caller/Listener
She is a monster.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay, so they have a baby too?
Caller/Listener
No, not at all. But the thing is, is because. Because of our. Because of our relationship, our co Parenting relationship. She likes to sometimes rear her ugly head and make comments and not particularly care for the dynamic that we have.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay.
Caller/Listener
And so it makes it difficult for he and I to co parent.
Lauren LaRosa
Right.
Jessica (Jess)
What is. What is the dynamic? And I'm. And I'm gonna tell you why. I feel like she's a little bitter and she.
Caller/Listener
No, I got you. No, I mean, we're just. Honestly, we're cool. Like, I'm. I'm not one of those where you can't see your kids. Hey, you want to come over and see the kids? I'll run over to the store real quick while you at the house watching them. It's nothing like that. And when I tell you nothing, it's nothing like that.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay, so y' all are not even attracted to each other anymore. Y' all are just really like me and my son's dad. Like, we're like brother. We're family.
Caller/Listener
Precisely.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay. Okay. So you guys are still married. That is. Is a barrier that. That the girlfriend probably feel like can never be broken, because not only are you taking accountability, saying that it's being lazy, but it's also lazy on his side. Like, why won't you divorce your wife? Like, she's still your wife. So, yes, she has a problem with the dynamic because it. Y' all could get back together at any moment because neither one of y' all are pressed to get a divorce, to go through with a divorce. So she's technically. She's technically a mischievous at the end of the day.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
You like?
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
That's our problem, not mine.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Caller/Listener
Yeah. I mean, but to see the thing. But I think the thing is, is that I'm so reluctant to call her that because it's not like I'm wanting the relationship back. Like, quiet is kept quiet. I'm happy for their relationship in. In terms of him being able to just go out and be free. But in terms of. In terms of the type of individual that she is, I just thought that he would have picked better crop.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay, so those are your personal feelings about her? Girl, they ain't got. Look, let me ask you this. Is she disrespectful to children?
Caller/Listener
She has done some very questionable things with my children.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay. Does she hurt them in any way? Mentally, physically, emotionally? Like, does she hurt them.
Caller/Listener
Has she put them in harm's way yet?
Jessica (Jess)
Because I. I honest. I'm telling you, girl, I'm gonna keep it all the way funky with you. I feel like the problems that you have with her wouldn't be the problems If y' all got an actual divorce, because she. She's. She's in a relationship where she doesn't feel like she fully has the man. And then imagine her friend groups and her family members, like, damn, you still messing with that married man. He's saying getting back with his wife, but, I mean, they so cozy and they cool and all that, but, you know, your boyfriend is still married to his baby mom, who he has an excellent dynamic with. I'm a little worried for you, sis. You know what I'm saying? Like, imagine that being in her head all day, every day. You know what I mean? I do believe that you would. If she was harming your kids, girl, you would sound totally different than what you sound right now. I. I just.
Caller/Listener
I mean, I think. Because I think there are levels to it. I mean, like, harming. When you think about harming, like, is she really. Is she slapping my kids across the face? Absolutely. Yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
Or disrespecting them verbally, you know, just even offending them, or, you know, they're not safe with her or that, you know, they're dead.
Caller/Listener
Answer this for me, Jess. Fix this mess for me. If your daughter was 8 years old, would you allow her to have acrylic nails?
Jessica (Jess)
Would I allow her to have what?
Caller/Listener
Acrylic nails.
Jessica (Jess)
No, I would not. Not personally, no. That's not for me.
Caller/Listener
Me. So she not for me either.
Jessica (Jess)
Oh, okay. Okay. So she basically took your baby to get her nails done, and she's eight.
Caller/Listener
You're picking up what I'm putting down.
Jessica (Jess)
I got you. All right, but you know what? Your baby girl probably wanted to get that done. Now, that's not. I'm not saying, you know, and. And the girl is a little younger. She's 28. Y' all are in your 40s. You know what I'm saying? And, you know, 38 and then 44. You know what I'm saying? She's younger. She's trying to appeal to the children because she is their stepmother. Mother, basically, like, she's in.
Caller/Listener
Oh. Oh, yes. Okay.
Mimi Brown
Okay.
Lauren LaRosa
You see?
Jessica (Jess)
All right. Right there. You ain't. You. You ain't even picking up what I'm putting down because. Nah, you don't consider her a stepmother.

We know parents want to feel confident as their teens navigate social media with Instagram teen accounts. Teens get automatic protections by default. Teens between the ages of 13 to 17 are automatically put into a protective experience. That means they get built in content settings for what they see, contact limits on who can contact, and time management tools like daily time limit reminders, as well as sleep mode, which mutes notifications from 10pm to 7am plus. Teens under 16 need a parent's permission to change any of these settings to be less strict. Instagram continues to work on building new safety features to help create age appropriate experiences for teens. His dad was an agent, his grandpa too.

So he gets you generation to generation.

not Hey y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. Okay, let's talk curls for a second. Because you already know if you have curly or coily hair, moisture is not optional, it's essential. Dryness is one of the biggest challenges for curly hair and most products they clock out after wash day. The new Ultra Moisture collection was literally designed with our hair in mind. Curls, coils, all of it powered by Botano oil and Jamaican Black Castor oil. Which means the science is actually doing the work. No sulfates, no parabens, no silicones, no mineral oils. Just nourishment without the compromise. Because here's the thing. Your hair deserves products that actually understand moisture that starts at the root and keeps going. Well past Sunday, that's the Ultra Moisture collection from Cantu Explore their full line. Built for every curl pattern, every hair routine. Available now at Walmart, Target and Amazon. Go get it. Pressure has a way of revealing what remains steady. Every find has a story. Like, if you're looking for a vintage band tee. Not just a tee. The band tee from the last show your favorite band ever played. You wore it everywhere. Then your girlfriend started wearing it, which was cool, until she dumped you and took it with her, which was not so cool. Anyway, now you're on ebay, and there it is. Same tee from the same tour, still living in your memory rent free, forever. See, the things you love have a way of finding their way back to you. But ebay isn't just for getting what your ex stole back. It's also for that rare championship foul ball you caught, then heroically gave it to the kid next to you. And where else are you going to find your first car? The one you wish you never sold, but now finally get the chance to take back home for good this time. You know, I'm a collector of cars. And sometimes I'm looking for the right rim that I had when I was a kid.
DJ Envy
Kid.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, it might have been 20 years ago, but I want that same feeling. And the only way I can find it is on ebay. Shop ebay for millions of finds, each with a story. EBay. Things people love.

We got. Look, we got the Aquarius vibes. We got the Aquarius. I'm doing my best. What you putting down? But, oh, when you said step mother. Hold on.
Jessica (Jess)
I know it hit you a little
Caller/Listener
bit too much dip on the chip, right?
Jessica (Jess)
Because you ain't ready to accept that. But that. See, you know why you can't accept it, right?
Caller/Listener
Accept this offline.
Lauren LaRosa
You know why you're not accepting it?
Jessica (Jess)
You're not accepting it because you. That's still your husband.
Caller/Listener
Girl, girl, when I. Girl, when I tell you that that ship has failed.
Jessica (Jess)
I know, I know. But he's still your husband, so we still at the shore. It didn't. It didn't sell.
Raja Karuth
For real?
DJ Envy
For real.
Jessica (Jess)
Get the book. Don't play. Get the book.
Caller/Listener
Don't follow me on Instagram.
Jessica (Jess)
What you said DM me, but pre order my book.
DJ Envy
For real.
Jessica (Jess)
Because it do sound like, you know, like y', all, you and the girlfriend just got you and your baby. Daddy sound fine, but. Well, you and your husband sound fine, but you and the girl has to come to an understanding. That's just all it is. But you should pre order my book. So deaf. Do we parent? Get it right now so you can read it as soon as it comes out on April 28, girl. Cause man, you. We need to talk some more.
Caller/Listener
We do, we do. We do. Hey, put me on the other line and I'll give you my number. For real, so. But Jess, I really appreciate you and I'm so unbelievably proud of you and everything that you've accomplished over these years. You really make us Brown girls proud.
Jessica (Jess)
Thank you, baby. Love you, girl.
Caller/Listener
Oh yeah, love you too, girl. Hello?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes. What's your question for Jess?
Caller/Listener
I'm gonna do some baby father issues and I'm. I just need to talk to somebody before I spaz out on them again. Try and go back to prison.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay.
DJ Envy
No.
Jessica (Jess)
Oh, back. Okay.
Caller/Listener
No.
Jessica (Jess)
Stay home. What happened? What's wrong?
Caller/Listener
All right, so in December, for like almost a year, like I was telling him and my sister, if I find out y' all dealing with each other, I'mma break both of y'.
DJ Envy
All.
Caller/Listener
J. So come come August, is me and my sister w up getting in a fight. Cuz she, she said something like, you better get your relationship together or I will. So I had to snap out on that. So she, she came to court, press charges and all that. I get out in December. So I got paroled to Philly. So we all get in my car. I had to leave my three room house and all of that to come down to Philly. We in the shelter and all of that. So this dude is just acting funny money. So I'm like, listen, like I'm still trying to make it work because we got a one year old daughter together. And even though like you ain't, I like the best of the best, but I still love you. Like, we're gonna have to make this work or you're gonna have to kick rock. So why he just gonna tell me earlier in the week? Because I just had a slight stroke. I was in the hospital and I was telling her, like, can you come get your daughter? Because they're gonna keep me for a couple days. No, no, no. Call your friend. So when I came back to Philly, I did link up one of my friends because, you know, he helped me with papers, wipes, putting gas in my car. My car was transferred out of prison. Like he paid over like $2,000 trying to get.
Jessica (Jess)
I got you that helps you?
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
You got a friend that helps you. Okay, that's fine.
Caller/Listener
Yeah. So now he gonna tell me, unless I die, I'm not gonna help you with your daughter. And I'm. I'm this and I'm there, I need to be saved and all this other stuff. But mind you, he do what he do and. And I don't say nothing about it because, you know, everybody got their flaws and we are doing whatever we doing. Well, if I tell him I don't want to be with you, because every time you come over, you don't got no Pampers or no wife or nothing. And I just had to get out the shelter because I got a 3 year old too, and a 14 year old, but my 14 year old, when I came back to Philly, he would have dead right now. I see him whenever I want. But he. You know what I mean? We back in Philly, so why not like, go be with your dad out there? 14 years, he can do the right.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay?
Caller/Listener
So mind you, no child support, you know, just doing it from the muscle. And I haven't had a job in like three years because where I was living it, they don't have daycare. So I was like, I stay at home, I do hair, I do all that. Like, so I'm real talented. So this, this dude was living with me, eating my food stamps, doing all this, not cleaning up. Had a white girl in my house. I had to wake up, dinner break her neck, went over to some other girl hospital. It was a whole mess. It was a mess. So now he just keeps saying it. So now I got two good girlfriends in Philly. Like, they like my sisters. So now he all texting them all this other stuff. So I'm all like, yo, you being real messy. Because I'm one where I don't play around with my money, money, my kids or my man. So I told my girlfriends, like, yo, like, if I'm not around, don't answer phone calls because I don't want y' all to be in the middle. And I go back because I think something because, you know, y' all not telling me nothing. He's not telling me nothing. I'm gonna go straight to however the story, you know, whatever conquer up in my head. I'm gonna. I'm gonna run with that. But how dare you tell me I took care of you. You've been living off of me and telling me that you. You're not gonna do nothing for your daughter. Because I don't want to be with you no More. And then he gonna come over like, yeah, I got something for you. He gonna come over with a half a tank of wipe, a big bottle, and a bag of dirty clothes. Oh, can I wash my clothes over there? No, sir.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay. All right. So you. So you're not in the shelter. You do live in a place.
Caller/Listener
Well, I just got out the shelter, like, two weeks ago. My girlfriend let me move in with her.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay, so we came to your girlfriend house. What? You know, your friend's house.
Caller/Listener
Introduced us together, like, 14, 15 years ago.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
Jesus, babe. Okay, so deep breath. Deep breath. All right. Now, this is a lot. You're in a very toxic situation, you know, and you still. You're not over your sons. I mean, you're not over your baby daddy. He ain't over you either. That's just what it is. But it sounds like he needs. Like, he comes to you for convenience, and you've let him in a few times, and then he do his thing, and then you go and do your thing, too, because it's both about. It sounds like it's about get back for the both of y'.
DJ Envy
All. Y'. All.
Jessica (Jess)
You know what I mean? Because y' all not over each other. And y' all move. Y' all operating out of feelings, and y' all both ain't even stable enough to be acting like this with these kids. Like, this is not cool. You just told me you had a stroke. You just got the hospital. You've been to jail and back. And then you broke a white girl's neck. Like, you know, because he bought somebody in a house.
Caller/Listener
I did stamp on her, but I didn't break her neck.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay, well, something. Something. This is a lot of toxicity. And you trying to raise three children. Girl. Girl, no, you. Yeah, you need to. Y' all need to figure this out. But you just for you first, because you can't control him.
Caller/Listener
Right?
Jessica (Jess)
And I didn't get his side. I'm only getting your side. You need to rid yourself of all of that toxicity. You can't deal with him. You can't. You're gonna have another damn stroke. Thank God you're still here because you had a stroke. That's very serious.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Jessica (Jess)
You need a deep breath, and you need to focus on you and your children.
DJ Envy
Children.
Jessica (Jess)
Forget a man. Forget it.
Lauren LaRosa
Forget it.
Jessica (Jess)
Your homegirl was nice enough to let you move with her. You're not in the shelter anymore. Thank God for that, you know, but you have your baby daddy or your friend sex or. All of this should be the furthest Away from your mind. You got a one year old. You said she won. Your youngest is one.
Caller/Listener
Yes.
Jessica (Jess)
Too much, too much going on. Too much going on. You should be focusing on working to save up to get out of your homegirl's house. House, get your kids together. You got a 14 year old, a son.
Caller/Listener
Yes.
Jessica (Jess)
He's with his dad.
Caller/Listener
Yeah. When we came back, he said he wanted to go because my one year old father was stealing from him. And all of that while I was in prison. I didn't know until.
Jessica (Jess)
Right, okay, but, but, but you see this, right? Because your kids got to grow up and who they gonna look at you, they gonna look at you like, yo, my mom let this happen. Da da da da. She kept indulging in all this drama and stuff. And you know, me and my siblings,
Caller/Listener
how we grew up, said that's the.
Jessica (Jess)
Yes.
Caller/Listener
He said, mom, if you get back with him, you'll never see me again.
Jessica (Jess)
And I was like, oh, no, this is your child. Yes. And, and imagine what your one year old and your three year old with. If they could fathom what's going on and internalize what's going on, imagine how they would feel. They're girls. You got, you got girls like these.
Caller/Listener
My 1 year old is a girl.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah. These children are looking at you, love. They are. You got to get it together. You don't need to go back to jail. So leave the toxicity alone. It's not worth trying to get back at this man. He gonna do what he gonna do. Let his bum ass be somewhere else. No, you can't come here and wash clothes. No, no. If he not trying to do right. Don't involve yourself. Don't even try. Don't give him a chance. You feel a horny girl? Buy rolls. I don't care. Don't you. You got kids looking after you. I mean that you need to look after. And they're looking up to you. You know, try, try to get yourself together and get your health and order. You can't take care of nobody if you can't take care of yourself if you're not in shape for it. I'm serious, girl. You, you ladies, men alone I'm doing now.
Caller/Listener
And, and my girlfriend I stay with now, she was saying that like, no, he only on the top now. Calling him a texting and saying all this stuff because, because first like last week he was like, let's make it work. And I was like, I don't know. If I see that you're taking care of your daughter, then I'll probably think about it.
Jessica (Jess)
You get what I'm saying? But you're like.
DJ Envy
But.
Jessica (Jess)
But you see what I'm saying? You say, I don't know. No, you know. No, you do know, because it's going to be a repeated cycle. You do know. He ain't done out there in the street, and you ain't done out there trying to get back at him. So, look, just leave it alone. You just had a stroke. He care. He wasn't there.
Caller/Listener
No.
Jessica (Jess)
All right? That's what I'm saying. Think about yourself. Don't think about him. Think about yourself. Think about your kids. Let him get himself together. I don't care if it take him 10 years. And you need to work on yourself right now. Now, I promise you, you'll feel much better if you focus on yourself. You gotta love yourself.
Caller/Listener
Sex. Sex.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah. For real. Now pull back off, because I know you pulled over somewhere.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Raja Karuth
All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
Good luck, mama.
Jessica (Jess)
All right, girl.
Caller/Listener
All right. Thank y'.
Charlamagne Tha God
All.
Caller/Listener
Y' all have a blessed one.
DJ Envy
You too.
Charlamagne Tha God
Just fix my mess. 800-585-1051. We got the latest with Lauren when we come back, so don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Jessica (Jess)
Lauren becoming a straight thing.
Charlamagne Tha God
She gets them from somebody that knows somebody.
DJ Envy
She gets the details.
Lauren LaRosa
I'm the homegirl that knows a little bit about everything.
DJ Envy
She be having the latest on this. The Latest with Lauren LaRosa. Sometimes you have facts, Sometimes you have details. Sometimes you have a little bit of everything.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, it's the latest brought to you by Top Dog Law on the Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy
Talk to me.
Jessica (Jess)
All right.
Lauren LaRosa
Also last night, I went to a private, like, intimate event with Jeezy. He was announcing or is announcing. We're announcing the fact that. That he is doing a second run of his residency. So the last one he did was all about the celebration of TM101, but this one will be his completely, like, all of his catalog. So it'll be in Vegas still. It's still a black tie affair, but this is called the Legend of the Snowman. It's at Planet Hollywood. The Debut date is May 1. But one of the things that I learned I got to speak to him backstage was that, did y' all know that he funded this whole residency out of his own pocket?
DJ Envy
I did not know.
Lauren LaRosa
Like, 100%.
Charlamagne Tha God
I did not know.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes. I couldn't believe it. I'm, like, really expensive. Let's take a listen to Jeezy talking about funding the residency.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, the fight was actually getting someone
DJ Envy
who understood the vision, to be honest
Charlamagne Tha God
with you, like, the orchestral space is
DJ Envy
still not sold on culture. Because when you think about what we
Charlamagne Tha God
do, you don't necessarily align that with an orchestra or black tie and things like that.
DJ Envy
Like, the first show we did with
Jessica (Jess)
an orchestra was not easy.
Lauren LaRosa
So did you fund this on your.
DJ Envy
Absolutely.
Lauren LaRosa
Every day, 100%. By yourself.
DJ Envy
100%. I mean, it's just, you know, everybody don't see the vision. Like every time, you know, and people, you know, we start talking about money. Like, everybody don't want to take those risks, you know.
Jessica (Jess)
Cause you can win, you can lose.
DJ Envy
I'm a bet on myself at all times, but I've done that my whole
Charlamagne Tha God
career, by the way, finding my own
DJ Envy
records, paying for them, getting reimbursed by the label after the fact, you know. And if it doesn't do well, sometimes
Jessica (Jess)
they won't reimburse you.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's a lot of money. So I asked you to ask him how much it was, and I know he wouldn't tell you, but I googled last time night. So the sphere in Vegas, just the sphere, that big sphere is about about 1 million to 10 million production costs. A smaller venue where most of these artists is about 250000 just for production. No, no, he wasn't at the SP. I was just telling him
DJ Envy
a regular
Charlamagne Tha God
venue is about 250, 000.
Lauren LaRosa
Well, I mean, at the end of the audio. And I'll have this interview in full on my YouTube channel, Lauren, the Rosa TV. I did. I tried to give a range. I'm like, I know, let's start at six figures at least. And then the. That, you know, the team cut me off. They're like, all right, let's end the interview here. But yeah, I mean, he's coming out of pocket pretty heavy for this.
DJ Envy
I tried to get Jeezy in South Carolina a couple times. They act like my money ain't no good. It wasn't good enough. Could you stop? Well, could you stop?
Lauren LaRosa
Last thing I'll say on this is sponsorships. They told me that, that he does something called a 44 wall deal, which is like. And it's listed in like, contracts. It's like four wall, which you guys know about is when you go into venues and you basically take all the financial mutual risk yourself. So then all of the return comes your way as well too. And then you get to control everything. Ticket pricing, marketing, production, all that stuff. So I was amazed. Like, I'm like, no major touring companies
DJ Envy
want to do your own hair oh, no. Sitting in front of the camera.
Lauren LaRosa
Oh, my God.
DJ Envy
People to see you.
Lauren LaRosa
And the return is always great because I look beautiful every day, period.
DJ Envy
It's not about you. I was not even talking.
Lauren LaRosa
You looked at me.
Charlamagne Tha God
Continue on.
Lauren LaRosa
Let's keep going. Okay. Speaking of return, Afro Man.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, man, I'm waiting for this one.
Lauren LaRosa
So you guys know Afro Man? He's known for the song Because I Got High. Yeah. Oh, whoa. So he's known for that song. He won a. A defamation lawsuit yesterday this week against seven Ohio sheriff's deputies. So what happened was back in 2022, they raided his home. So they. The police said that they had a warrant and they got a phone call and said that, you know, someone had been kidnapped and was in his home and that there were drugs. So they ran in and they found nothing. So when they found nothing, there was no charges pressed. Right. But in the midst of this, they caused. He. He alleges they caused damage to his home. They broke his door down. And after he got all his stuff back, you know how they, like, take evidence or whatever. He counted his money. He said it was 400 missing.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, not only that, they cut the cameras off, allegedly, during the raid. So they cut the cameras off so he. So you couldn't see what they were doing in the house. And there's no reason to cut the camera.
Jessica (Jess)
They cut his cameras off.
Charlamagne Tha God
Cameras.
Lauren LaRosa
There was some cameras because he did use some surveillance. Foot surveillance. Surveillance footage in some of the songs that he released about this event. And that's where some of the defamation came from. So the police basically alleged that because he went on and made music videos and songs about the raid and using that security footage to mock the raid, they went, experienced a bunch of harassments. Their kids were being harassed and made to cry at school. And just a ton of different things were happening. They wanted $4 million in damages, and the judge said, no, we are not word in this.
Charlamagne Tha God
He's going in on these officers so crazy. He called one humpback. He called one receding hairline, called one fat, Said one's wife was. Was knocking him off, giving him brains. He going crazy.
Lauren LaRosa
They. Oh, are they? They were in court and, you know, it's on camera. So a lot of the audio and the video from the court is now going viral because it was just funny hearing them recount some of the things that they recall. Let's take a listen to some of the court audio.
Charlamagne Tha God
Sean, you were called Officer foundation cake by Mr. Foreman multiple times.
Caller/Listener
You received hundreds of pound cakes at work.
DJ Envy
From different people.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is it true that Mr. Foreman called you a hunchback?
Raja Karuth
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
And specifically compared you to Quasimodo?
DJ Envy
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
So you were called a couple names by Mr. Foreman, one of those being Beetle Bailey?
Jessica (Jess)
Yes, sir.
Charlamagne Tha God
Does anyone believe you're Beetle Bailey? Probably not.
Raja Karuth
That's a drawn cartoon.
Charlamagne Tha God
Beetle Bailey is a cartoon that's in the newspaper.
Caller/Listener
Sure.
Charlamagne Tha God
Been there for years. So that would be an exaggeration.
DJ Envy
Okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
And when they call you a son of a.
Jessica (Jess)
That would be an opinion, I assume.
Raja Karuth
That would be an opinion.
DJ Envy
Okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
Because there's no way we can prove
DJ Envy
whether you're a son of a.
Jessica (Jess)
She's been dead for years.
DJ Envy
I'm sorry.
Charlamagne Tha God
I am sorry about your mother.
Jessica (Jess)
Did y' all hear that?
Lauren LaRosa
The mom was dead. His mom is dead. And the lawyer laughed.
DJ Envy
When is Afroman gonna sue for the illegal raid? Cause I feel like Afroman is owed some money after being accused of being a part of a drug and kidnapping investigation and having these police run up in his house for no reason and even have to go through this whole trial. Like, I mean, it's got to be pain. It's got to be suffering. It's got to be emotional distress. Like, he's been through so much. When is he gonna get paid?
Lauren LaRosa
And he said, too. He was like, you know, it's kind of crazy how y' all trying to call me out for these songs when I made this music to recoup the damages. Like, y' all broke my doors down. Y' all did so much. I made this to recoup, recoup. So. But judge sided with him. I know we got a rap now.
DJ Envy
I just don't want it to be distracted by the fact that it was an illegal rape. There was a warrant and said he was part of a drug and kidnapping investigation. That is. That's defamation. You know what I mean? Labeling me as a kidnapper, saying, were they saying he was sexually assaulting women or. I'm making this part up. Either way, to have those type of things stuck to your name in this era, and they're not.
Lauren LaRosa
And when that rate went down, it was such a big deal, too. I remember when the story broke, it was everywhere. So. Oh, yeah.
DJ Envy
Need to be compensated for his pain.
Lauren LaRosa
Top dog law. Any accident, big or small, call Top dog law.
Jessica (Jess)
Oh, and happy birthday, Bruce Willis. He is 71 today, y'.
Caller/Listener
All.
Jessica (Jess)
That's one of my favorite actors. Happy birthday, Bruce.
Charlamagne Tha God
Will.
DJ Envy
Hey, Carlos King. You need to work on getting Afro man at the Black Effect Podcast festival. I'd like to see you interview Afro.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, I would love to see that, too. All right, now when we come back, of course, we got the mix. We're gonna start off with some Jay Z because it's gonna be a whole summer. So let's start off with some hope. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne, the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Now. It's Women's History Month.
Jessica (Jess)
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
And who we repping today?
Jessica (Jess)
All right, cool. So I don't really have a thing for today, but I am honoring the misunderstood lost character Felicia from the movie Friday. She was literally the lost girl in the community. Just seeking. Seeking a connection in the community, right? And everybody always be like, oh, she was a crack issue. We never seen her do no drugs. I just think she was just a lost, dirty little girl in the hood just trying to make a connection. She probably didn't have any family, more than likely. And if you really, really think about it, she is responsible for Craig moving out the hood into a better situation. Ask me how.
Charlamagne Tha God
How?
Jessica (Jess)
Because right when she was dealing with Debo, the hood bully, he was dealing with her on the low. And that night she was in the house, he thought she stole from him, but she really didn't steal. Not from. So he got up, he beat her ass, right? And so she went to tell her sister, because y' all know her sister was near Long. That was Craig girlfriend, right? Well, he was trying to get her, but when. When she told her sister, her sister stepped to him, and then he slapped the hell out of her. She flew down the street, and then Debo jumped up in this. I mean, Craig jumped up, and Debo face like, yo, that's a female, right? And then they started fighting, the tussling and all that. If it wasn't for the fight, if you didn't go back and house and try to get that gun and come back out. If it wasn't for that. If it wasn't for Felicia, he would have never moved to the Rancho Cucamonga to be with his uncle and aunt. He, like, she's. She saved Craig's life in a way. She did. It was all because of her. Because if he would have. If she would have never. He would have never. If she would have never spent the night with Debo and he thought that she stole from him. Oh, Craig would have never had to fight him because he slept. Because he slept near Long. That was all Felicia. Felicia is the reason that Craig made it out the hood.
DJ Envy
I do think there's a lot of Layers to Felicia's character. But people who say Felicia wasn't smoking, cracking Friday, Never seen Friday. And I've seen her say that in Vlad TV interviews.
Jessica (Jess)
What?
DJ Envy
But there's a scene where Smokey literally goes. He sees Devo with Felicia goes, damn, Debo smoking crack, too.
Jessica (Jess)
Yeah, yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
DJ Envy
We.
Jessica (Jess)
We never saw her. You ever, you listen, you have. You grew up in the hood and on the dirt roads. You ever seen somebody that look like a crackhead, but you never seen them do crack? But you always just see them, they dirty.
DJ Envy
I don't think I've ever seen any of the crackheads that we knew with crackheads do crack.
Charlamagne Tha God
I never seen a crackhead do crack.
DJ Envy
It's like you ain't never seen two cats having sex, but you see the kittens.
Jessica (Jess)
I understand that. But just because somebody look like they don't crack them in the. Oh, they could just be dirty, disheveled. We see people like that around.
DJ Envy
Said Debo on crack two.
Jessica (Jess)
Okay.
DJ Envy
He said, damn, Debo on crack two.
Jessica (Jess)
You missing the point. Felicia is the reason that. That he had a better life, that Craig moved out the hood and had a better life. And we see his better life in next Friday. But you know who they don't show having a better life. Felicia.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay, well, you never know.
Jessica (Jess)
No, they didn't.
DJ Envy
They didn't show what the future holds. But I was ladies.
Jessica (Jess)
There's a lot of Felicias out there.
DJ Envy
You make women not even want to be women. Women? What are you talking about? Wow.
Charlamagne Tha God
Wow.
DJ Envy
This sinister trick you've been doing all Women's history month. Okay, I know what you doing.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm not trying to make women.
DJ Envy
I say. I just say you make women. I know what you're doing.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right. I want to salute to Rolling Stone, Rolling Stone magazine. I was out with. Out at south by Southwest with them. We were doing kind of like, like the nightlife. So after the nightlife, when you leave the club or you leave the comedy show or you want to go get a late night someplace to eat. We were talking about some of my favorite restaurants around the country. Whether it was Morrows in New Orleans or it was Hue in. In Chicago or it was Uptown Taste of Seafood in Harlem. We just talked about some of my favorite spots around the country. And we went through, like, breakdown. What's the best thing to get? Whether it's wings, whether it's. I mean, like, tasted seafood that has some of the best shrimp and has some dope steak.
DJ Envy
What about the bottom diner I heard you like to go there after you heard about that. No.
Charlamagne Tha God
I talked about Chelsea Diner, though, in the city where, you know, you get your pancakes. I don't. Never heard of the Bottom
DJ Envy
time. I've never.
Charlamagne Tha God
I've never heard of that.
Jessica (Jess)
I never heard that.
Charlamagne Tha God
Or the Hollis Food Shop where you can get your. Your Hollis heroes or your chopped cheese. So many different places. So salute to the Rolling Stone. I really appreciate it. We had a great time in south by Southwest. An amazing a conversation. Now also, Raja Karuf, My God, he's gonna be racing this Sunday. The NASCAR driver. He's racing Saturday, Saturday with the Black Effect wrapped car. And I can't wait to see that car. That's gonna be amazing. That's dope.
DJ Envy
He's racing Saturday at 5:30 in Darlington. It airs on the CW and yes, you know the Black Effect Podcast Network. We sponsored his number 32 Chevrolet Chevrolet Camaro this Saturday. So when you watching the cw, you're gonna be seeing that Black Effect go around and around and around that track.
Charlamagne Tha God
When's race season over?
DJ Envy
You know, I don't know when race season is over, but one thing that we're working on is having the race simulator at the Black. Black Effect Podcast Festival. So you know the same race simulator that, you know, somebody like Raja.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
DJ Envy
Learned on and it got him into nascar. We're going to have a Black Effect race simulator at the Black Effect Podcast.
Charlamagne Tha God
Please find out when race season over because salute to John. He's another a black owner of a nascar. I was able to get his car for some of my car shows so kids could see it. And I would love to get that Black Effect car for the car show. If race season's over. I would. I would love to get that for some of the car shows. That would.
DJ Envy
Let's figure it out. Figure it out. That would be dope.
Charlamagne Tha God
But you got a positive note.
DJ Envy
I do. But I just want to remind everybody since we talking about Black Effect. April 25th, the Black Effect Podcast Festival happens in Atlanta, Georgia at Pullman Yards. Tickets are on sale right now. Nori and DJ EFN will be doing Drink Champs on that stage. Mona will be doing Don't Call Me White Girl on that stage. Stage. Devonte Kyle. Devonte Kyle and Big Ice Cup Cat, they'll be doing the Grits and eggs podcast. Club 520 podcast will be there with Jeff Teague, Carlos King with Reality with the King. And keep it Positive, Sweetie, with Crystal Renee Haslet. She'll be there as well, man. So go get your tickets right now. Black Effect.com podcast festival and we'll see you on April 25th. Now, the positive note is this. You know I talk to you all about gratitude, right? Being grateful, saying thank you. The reason I want gratitude to always be your attitude is for a simple reason. Gratitude turns what we have into enough. Some of y' all don't feel like you have enough because you too busy worried about what you don't got instead of being grateful for what you do have. So gratitude turns what we have into enough. So always have a gratitude, an attitude of gratitude. Okay? Have a great day. Breakfast club, bitches. Wake you up. Wake you up.
Charlamagne Tha God
Wake that ass up.
