Charlamagne Tha God
Peace to the planet. It's Tuesday. Hey, how y' all feel out there? I feel blessed, black and highly favored. Happy to be here. Another day to serve our beautiful listeners. Man, just a couple more days till summer vacation.
DJ Envy
You heard me.
Charlamagne Tha God
And it's cancer season. My birthday next Monday. Okay. I feel great.
Angela Yee
That's what's up.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Well, I'm happy for your birthday, sir.
Charlamagne Tha God
Thank you. I'm happy for my birthday, too.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Whose candle are you blowing out?
Charlamagne Tha God
Nobody. I'm a Jehovah Witness.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yo, now you're a Jehovah Witness on his birthday?
Charlamagne Tha God
I was raised Jehovah Witness, rather.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Hey, what's up, Jess? How you feeling, Jess?
Angela Yee
That don't expire, though. Like, you can't, like, opt out.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's a good question. I never. But you know what, though? I never got into, you know, any of the holidays or anything. I enjoy them. Like, I. My wife is not a joke. She lays everything out for the kids, so I enjoy it. But I don't necessarily need.
Angela Yee
You don't really.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't need it. I. I'll partake, but I don't need it.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
You don't need it.
Angela Yee
Okay.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What's up, Jess? How you feeling?
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm good.
Angela Yee
I feel good. Yo, I finally finished the polygamist. Right? Remember that?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I seen everybody talking about it. Yeah, I didn't get a chance to see it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is it good?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Netflix.
Angela Yee
It's a really good show. It's about a guy who got three wives or whatever. Y' all know what polygamy is, but
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
is it a reality as in real? Or is a movie type thing?
Angela Yee
It's like a soap opera. It's a series, but it's drama. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster. It is so good. And from beginning to end, it keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's 22 episodes the entire season. They set it up like they're gonna
Charlamagne Tha God
make it one season.
Angela Yee
22 episodes. But it's only 30 minute episode. Well, 28 minute episodes. It's not long, I know, but it's not that long.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Not really, but 14 if it's an yes.
Angela Yee
And you can binge it and you can watch it in a few days. Like, if you don't got nothing to do, you know, you can watch it in one day, but if you busy, like Us, then it'll take you a few hours. But it's so good. The polygamy.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Would you try polygamy after watching it?
Angela Yee
No, the hell I would not. And then I honestly feel like it's only for men anyway, how they set it up. Because, of course, this is the African culture or whatever, but they do it
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
in a lot of other cultures, too.
Angela Yee
They. It's only for men. Like, it's like they don't allow for the women to have four husbands or they don't like that. So I. I don't. I'm not sure. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't want to.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm not wired like that.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yeah.
Angela Yee
Yeah. Ain't enough cat over here to be going around.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I can't do it.
Charlamagne Tha God
I was watching that. That movie with Chloe Bailey last night. Strong.
DJ Envy
Strong.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes. You liked it? It was cool. Yeah, but it's.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
It's.
DJ Envy
It's.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, it's not polygamy. Well, I don't know if. I don't know what you call what they had going on. I don't want to get a movie away, though.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Okay.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
When does it come out? Comes out this weekend.
Charlamagne Tha God
Friday, I think.
Lauren LaRosa
Friday.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And it comes out Friday.
Angela Yee
Yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yeah. Well. Well, let's get the show cracking. We have AJ Diving diva. Nonster.
Charlamagne Tha God
What?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
The monster. AJ the Bonster.
Charlamagne Tha God
He's supposed to be going number one. He'll probably go number one to the Washington Wizards.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yes. And, yeah, there's a lot been going on. The NBA. Have you guys been seeing. Giannis is trading. We'll talk about the front page news and a couple other people who traded. We'll get all into it when we come back. Maybe you'll be joining us. And of course, get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, you can hit us up. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. What are we starting with?
Charlamagne Tha God
You know it's only time for the fake ass me up. Yesterday, I read a Wall Street Journal investigation that talked about how polymarket ran a deceptive marketing campaign that paid creators to post videos of influencers discussing how they could use inside information to bet on Drake's album release date. Really? And in that song, he said shorty keep asking to date. She trying to finesse Poly market for bread.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Damn.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's what he said on this.
DJ Envy
Wow. Wow.
Charlamagne Tha God
That might be the first white collar crime confess to white right in the music. It's usually something a little more gritty than that.
DJ Envy
Jesus.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
All. Well, morning, everybody. We are The Breakfast Club. Let's get in some front page news now in sports. All right, now, the Bucs traded Giannis to the Heat. Now, the Bucks also sent Bobby Portis to Miami in exchange for Tyler herro, Yami Jacques Jr. And a bunch of unprotected first round picks in the 2031 and 2033 draft.
Charlamagne Tha God
Now why Giannis was just want to change the weather or something? Like why? Like, I mean, Miami's a beautiful place to play in, but you're not going to compete for no championships in Miami, not with that squad.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
People are saying that it might be the. The best defensive team in the East. That's what they're saying. With Giannis and Bam and Portis.
Charlamagne Tha God
Bam and Portis. Why? I wonder why he would. Why, why they would turn down the Boston deal that was centered around Jaylen Brown. Like, Jaylen Brown is a, you know, MVP caliber player.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Absolutely.
DJ Envy
That's me.
Angela Yee
Yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I. I don't know. Now, also, Minnesota is sending Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets. Now, the thing that's so crazy is when Julius Randle was played for the Knicks, it just seemed like he didn't want to be in New York. It just seemed like he hated the media, he hated the press, he hated all the. How aggressive.
Charlamagne Tha God
He met with Julius.
Angela Yee
Yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
When it came to playing in New York, I. I don't. I don't think he loved it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Where's he from? I don't know.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I don't know.
Charlamagne Tha God
I know he had some of his best years in New York. He was averaging like 25 and 10. When he was playing for the.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Well, he was there. He was there by himself, too. Remember? There was nobody there. Maybe that's the reason why he felt
Charlamagne Tha God
like that one year. Yeah, Brunson.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Brunson was there for one year.
Charlamagne Tha God
Matter of fact, when Brunson was there, Brunson was the leading scorer and Julius was the second leading score. I think Julius might have averaged like 24 that year.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yeah, just anytime I went to the game, it just seemed like Julius didn't want to be there. Like, it just seemed like he did not like New York in the press and the media and all that stuff. Yeah, definitely. Well, he's going to Brooklyn now. He got traded for a bunch of picks. It didn't make no sense for that deal either. But we'll see how that. That hangs out. What's up, Mimi?
Lauren LaRosa
Good morning, Envy. Josh Alamain. How y' all doing this morning? So we start this morning with the latest on that fragile peace deal between the US And Iran. So the Trump administration is temporarily lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, a move that could send billions of dollars back to Iran's economy. Now, the announcement came after a new round of talks in Switzerland led by Vice President J.D. vance. The administration says the two sides made progress on four key keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, maintaining the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, starting more detailed talks on Iran's nuclear program, and allowing international inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities. Here's Vice President J.D. vance.
Charlamagne Tha God
Major milestone for the American people and the first step in permanently denuclearizing or permanently ending a nuclear weapons program in Iran.
Lauren LaRosa
Well, the promise of nuclear inspectors was the same promise made under President Obama's deal that Trump pulled out of in 2018. And despite what you just heard from the Vice president, Iran's Foreign Ministry says it has not agreed to any new commitments on its nuclear program. Meanwhile, President Trump is warning that if Iran, if it doesn't honor the agreement and allow inspectors, he says, quote, I will do what I have to do.
Charlamagne Tha God
But I read somewhere that the inspectors was always there up until last year when they started bombing.
Lauren LaRosa
They were there. Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
It doesn't make any sense.
Lauren LaRosa
So it's like fixing an unnecessary problem and then saying that you fixed it and it was already part of the deal. Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
What did you Netanyahu say about the deal? I don't listen to anyone about a peace deal in Iran and between the US And Iran until I hear from Bibi.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, we haven't heard from them just yet on this. So we will continue to watch that.
Charlamagne Tha God
If Bibi not with it. It's not happening.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. Yeah. And the drama surrounding the reflecting pool is getting even bigger this morning. So the water in that newly renovated pool has turned green with algae. And now at least five people have been arrested, several other cited for allegedly damaging the water. The landmark. So President Trump, though, he's accusing vandals of sabotage, claiming they dumped chemicals in the and slash the brand new pool. Let's listen to what he had to say.
Charlamagne Tha God
Who would think that somebody would go
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
into a pool and take a knife and start cutting it?
Charlamagne Tha God
But you have proof of that?
DJ Envy
That.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yeah.
DJ Envy
Photos or.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, let's put it this way. When you have a 350, I think it's 350, not 250, a 350 foot slit from one end to the other.
Angela Yee
You think that's proof?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
All you'd have to do is see the Parks Department.
Charlamagne Tha God
They'll show it to you. Or see, see the secretary. But I saw it.
Angela Yee
They cut it they cut it very violently.
Charlamagne Tha God
Can we interview some of the contractors? Like, who are the contractors out there that worked on the pool? Can somebody get in contact with them?
Lauren LaRosa
I'm glad that you asked that because Senator Richard Blooming, Paul Blumenthal is calling, calling foul on this whole process. He says that the Democrats, that the president is his claims are absurd and that is exactly not what happened. Let's just listen to what he had to say about this.
Charlamagne Tha God
To say that someone somehow got into that reflecting pool and slit 350ft of it is absurd. What's happened here almost certainly is shoddy and incompetent workmanship, the result of no bid contracts that have ballooned in size. Also a characteristic of all these vanity projects. What's needed is in fact, an investigation into these no bid contracts, one of them for millions of dollars going to a campaign contributor who has donated more than half a million dollars to the Trump campaigns or other causes.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So for people to understand it in layman's terms, that's the size pretty much
Charlamagne Tha God
of a football field.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
He's saying somebody cut it from the size of a football field length long.
Charlamagne Tha God
I thought they said they poured a chemical in it that caused it to peel up.
Lauren LaRosa
They poured a chemical in it. They sliced it. They got in and they sliced it. And Senator Blumenthal, to your point, Charlotte was saying there needs to be an investigation into these contracts, into how these people got these contracts and to understand, you know, what exactly is going on. But he's calling foul, saying this is part, this is just shoddy work. This is just the fact that you gave this contract to a friend. They didn't do a good job. And this is. That's all that happened.
Charlamagne Tha God
Or somebody got the contracts, but there was never no contractors.
Lauren LaRosa
That part two that part, too. But also it's important to mention that security cameras have also gone around the pool to monitor it. And all of this comes as taxpayers have spent nearly $16 million renovating this. And now we must. Yes, we, we're about to spend another 1.7 million to drain it and to fight the algae that's turned the water
Charlamagne Tha God
green in a pool that would never get to swimming tricks, man.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. So a lot happening with that.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
All right.
Lauren LaRosa
Well, coming up at seven, you guys, we're going to talk more about Savannah Guthrie. We're learning more details about what may have happened to her mother.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
All right, we'll get into that next. Everybody else, get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need the vent Hit us up right now. It's the Breakfast Club.
Charlamagne Tha God
Good morning, Ray.
DJ Envy
Ray.
Charlamagne Tha God
Ray. Yo, Charlamagne, Envy, what up?
Angela Yee
Are we live?
Charlamagne Tha God
This is your time to get it off your chest.
Angela Yee
I got an indoor pool, an outdoor pool.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
We want to hear from you on the Breakfast Club.
Angela Yee
We can get on the phone right now.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Here.
Angela Yee
Tell you what it is.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
We live.
Charlamagne Tha God
Hello? Who's this?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Stop, stop. 843.
Charlamagne Tha God
843. What's happening? What part of the 843 you calling from? Coming from Somerville, man, but I stay in North Jester. Okay, okay.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Get it off your chest, brother.
DJ Envy
Ye.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Where your location is that with the crystals, man?
Charlamagne Tha God
I know one in water, bro.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Somewhere else, too, though.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, Orangeburg. One in Walterboro and one in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Angela Yee
Okay, okay, okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
Why are you going on? You going to Orangeburg? No, I don't go to Orangeburg for nothing. Well, God damn. Well, if you're driving to Columbia or something, stop at the Crystal on Chestnut Street. 1486 Chestnut street in Orangeburg.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
You ain't got no plans? Quarter down for the 843 area.
Charlamagne Tha God
We do have some plans for the 843 area. You just got to stay tuned. You know, it's a slow process, but it's gonna come.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yeah, okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
Good to hear.
DJ Envy
Good to hear.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes, sir.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yeah, man, I just want to try to see what's up.
DJ Envy
You know what I'm saying? Hope y' all boy feeling good out there.
Charlamagne Tha God
I appreciate you, man.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Good brother.
Charlamagne Tha God
Salute to everybody who goes to the Crystal and Walter, bro, too. On Bell's Highway 1222 Bells Highway.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Hello? Who's this?
Charlamagne Tha God
Hey, what's going on, man?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
This Chris Rose, AKA Real estate. Rose, man, coming from Detroit.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What up, though? Get it off your chest.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
What up, though? Well, first of all, I just want to say I'm a local real estate agent for the Wayne County, Oakland County Market and Macomb Market, right? What I don't understand is when people are looking for a house and they tell you, you know, how much they want to pay, and then you go show them the houses within their budget, and they get mad because, you know, they budget is they say they want to get a house for 1200 in rent.
Charlamagne Tha God
And then I say, okay, here's what you got. And they don't like nothing I give them, and they say, oh, that's not good enough.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
But when you being cheap, you get. You don't get the cheap stuff.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, it depends how old you are, too, because, you know, back in my day, 1200, you know, in Rent used to go long way for something nice, right? And you know, a lot of people
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
still thinking that the market is the same from.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Ten years ago.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
You know what I mean?
Charlamagne Tha God
And they get mad at you when
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
you say, well, you need a little bit more money to get this, this, and this.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, you're hiding them good 1200 houses. You know where they at, man, look, them 1200 houses ain't.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
They ain't like what they used to be.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
That and the interest rate shot up crazy, too. But the interest rate shot up crazy, too. The interest rates used to be 3, 4%. Now they 6, 7%, right. Depending on credit, which is. Which is a big hit, too, for people.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
And, you know, most people don't even really pay attention to that.
Charlamagne Tha God
And it's. I mean.
DJ Envy
I mean.
Charlamagne Tha God
And it's just for rent, right?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yeah, this just for the, you know, for rent, you know, that's the little, you know, the. The lower income areas. You know what I mean?
Charlamagne Tha God
And people, you know, I know they
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
got good jobs out here, and they telling me, you want to pay 1200 for rent, but when I say, well, you need at least 16 for a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 b with a garage, you know what I mean? It just got totally bad, you know,
Charlamagne Tha God
But I understand, but how you gonna get mad at me?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Because, you know, you want me to look for something that you want. So when I tell you need a little bit more money, that's like, if you tell me, well, hey, Chris, can you go get me a PlayStation 4? PlayStation 5. And then I come back and say, well, if you need 200 more bucks, man. What?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes. I'm always complaining about the extra money I ain't got. Yes. What are you talking about? Y' all would love to give you the 1600. I ain't got it, Chris.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Thank you, Chris.
Charlamagne Tha God
Why are you shaming me? Because I ain't got an extra coup. Hundred dollars.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, hit us up now. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
This is your time to get it
Angela Yee
off your chest Whether you're mad or
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
blessed I hate the way that you
Charlamagne Tha God

DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)

DJ Envy
What's good, man? This is Drew from Little Rock.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What's up, brother? Get it off your Chest.
Angela Yee
Good morning.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
Good morning. Good morning.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Hey, what's up, Envy? What's up, Jeff?
DJ Envy
Charlemagne.
Charlamagne Tha God
What's up, cancer gang? Peace. My guy. How are you? What day are you? I'm six two seven, man.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Saturday.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, okay. You two days. You two days before me. Yeah, yeah, yeah, man. I'm gonna go out to see that Jeezy, man. You gonna go see him? I'm going in July.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
I just want to call y', all, man, and say, good morning, man.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
And man, tell y' all to keep
DJ Envy
up the good work, man.
Charlamagne Tha God
I watch y' all on Netflix. We appreciate you, man.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Hello? Who's this?
Angela Yee

Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
What up, Doe?
Angela Yee
Jess, I'm so mad.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
I missed you.
Angela Yee
It's okay. I'll be back, girl. I'll be back. Good morning, Uncle Shyla.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Hey, DJ Envy. Good morning.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
This is for Netflix about death.
Angela Yee
We need a segment called Death. Spoiler alert. Because when she say, go watch something. I watch Bridesmaids. I've been trying to call y' all since last weekend. I watch Bridesmaid.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Whatever.
Angela Yee
Just say we run and go.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee

Guest/Caller or Interviewee
I'm serious.
Charlamagne Tha God
She ain't gonna do it. Shut up, boy. She ain't gonna do it.
Angela Yee
No. And it's called Maid of Honor, so. You watched Maid of Honor? You liked it? Oh, my.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yep.
Angela Yee
I said Ray, right? That's okay.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yes, I watched Maid of Honor.
Charlamagne Tha God
That was so good.
Angela Yee
Wasn't it, crazy girl?
DJ Envy
Yes.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
And I'm about to binge watch this one, too.
Angela Yee
I'm not even about to try to mess up the name of it. You talk about the polygamist. The show.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yes.
Angela Yee
Watch it. Watch it. You gonna hate Mr. Gamora.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
But.
Angela Yee
But watch it.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
All right, but we.
Angela Yee
We need you to ourselves on Netflix. Yep. Jazz. Spoiler alert. I like that.
Charlamagne Tha God
I would love for you to do that. She ain't gonna do it, though. She gonna do it one time, and then she didn't.
Angela Yee
I got.
Charlamagne Tha God
Faith insisted about it.
Angela Yee
How many times did you tell us she wasn't gonna write that book?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
And she wrote that book.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know how long that took?
Angela Yee
9 months. And I was pregnant. Don't play with me.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. When we come back, we got the latest with Lauren. She'll be here in a second. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
The wait was worth it. Positive affirmations and all the hard work.
Angela Yee
The keys to your dream home from
Charlamagne Tha God
the vision board have been secured.

You know, one thing I had to unlearn was treating my textured hair like everybody else's. For years I followed all of the popular advice, tried the trends and used products that worked for other people. But my hair was still dry, it was breaking and it just wasn't retaining any length. Not the length I wanted anyway. It was so frustrating because I felt like I was doing everything right but still not seeing any results. Everything changed when I realized my hair needed products made specifically for textured hair. That's why I love Baskin Lather. I've been especially enjoying the stimulating scalp and hair balm because it helps me nourish and hydrate my hair without feeling like it's greasy. It's made with 100% natural ingredients, helps reduce breakage, adds shine, and supports healthier looking hair over time. I also love the hydrating hair mistake which helps keep my soft hair moisturized and helps fight dryness and frizz. And I love the story behind the brand Baskin Lather is a black owned and family operated company created by founder Shayna and her mother when they developed their own hair care line solutions. When a younger sister was told that her hair may never grow back. Today her hair reaches down to her hips, honey. Looking at the before and the after results on the site, it's easy to see why so many people swear by these products. Explore viral bestsellers and products of healthier hair of all types from Baskin lather. Go to baskinlatherco.com and use code Breakfast Club for 20% off. Peace of the planet Charlemagne. The God here. Now, y' all know I'm big on ownership. Owning your ideas, owning your business, owning your future. And that's exactly why I use Shopify. Shopify is the platform that lets you take an idea and actually build a real business out of it. All right? It gives anyone the tools, the storefront and the control. So you're not building on somebody else's platform or somebody else's algorithm. Okay? It's your own store, your community, your own customers. That relationship is yours to own. All right? What I love is how discoverable it makes everything. Shopify puts products everywhere people actually shop. Google, YouTube, TikTok, shop, the shop app. Even inside ChatGPT you can literally go from conversation to checkout. That's next level options in our changing world. And right now the Black Effect storefront is busy and Shopify is handling the heavy lifting. I am so excited that Shopify is going to show up at our Black Effect podcast festival this year in a big way. And of course I'll be there preaching this platform and introducing this platform to all our small black owned businesses that partner with us. Shopify is helping drive the marketplace this year at our festival and their footprint and commitment to us and the community of black owned businesses is something I am proud to be a part of. Build your store, own your audience and create something that lasts. Start now@shopify.com Breakfast Club. Particularly are bringing the energy to mainstream radio, to black radio sources. Trust us.

LL Cool Babe, talk to me. LL Cool B. You still got that makeup on you had on on the View yesterday. I actually watch your face.
Angela Yee
I Put on fresh makeup. My face was bland when I walked in.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Oh, he act like you ain't washing
Charlamagne Tha God
your face at all.
Angela Yee
He was asleep in saying like, yeah, get to the latest. Good morning, y'. All.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Good morning.
Angela Yee
Okay, so yesterday, while we were at the View, we look up on the TV screen and it was announced that Clive Davis passed away. Yeah. So Clive Davis, music executive and icon known for, you know, a ton of different music acts, including Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Kelly Clarkson. Uh, he was a part founder and Bad Boy, um, at one point in time, passed away, uh, at 94 years old. Uh, it was reported yesterday by his, his family that he passed away at his home. But about maybe like three weeks. Three weeks ago or so, there were reports that were confirmed by his team that he was taken to the hospital. He was dealing with a respiratory infection. And they said they took him to the hospital just as, like, you know, caution. And he was released like 24 hours later. And they said that he was home and he was in good spirits and he was fine. And then it was announced yesterday that he passed.
DJ Envy
So.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And I don't think he co founded Bad Boy. I think he helped Diddy assist in starting Bad Boy and signed it to the distribution company. But I don't think he found it.
Angela Yee
I mean, well, he was a part of the inception.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
He helped found the Face Records. Yeah, yeah, behind tlc, Usher, Outkast, Pink, Tony Braxton.
Angela Yee
He was an Aristotle.
Charlamagne Tha God
Right, I saw that too. I saw that going around. I don't know what's true or not. They said that he was. When they first launched Bad Boy, it was like a 50, 50 JV with Clive Davis, probably. Clyde was the parent company.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
He was the parent company.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Angela Yee
I reached out to. I mean, not like he doesn't have other things going on right now, but I reached out to Diddy's team, trying to understand what that all was.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, it was Arista. Aristotle was the parent.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Okay.
Angela Yee
Yeah. I mean, they didn't get back to me, but yeah, thanks for cleaning that up. But, yeah, so he passed away. I'm at 94 years old, so. Sending the rest in peace to Clive Davis. No. Shoot. Now we shift gears a bit. T.I. speaking of music, T.I. was up here not too long ago. He's. He's on a press run. He's doing a lot of press for the Kill the King album. And he sat down with the Joe Budden podcast and he had some comments about verses, which was a big conversation with him in 50 Cent. Let's take a listen.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I don't want to indulge in that side of life no more. I ain't no money over there.
Angela Yee
Poor people activities. Lti man.
Charlamagne Tha God
45, bro. I'm 45. I'm doing. Going back and forth with a man,
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
like, to celebrate music, to celebrate me. I could do that.
Charlamagne Tha God
Talking about me to celebrate each other's music.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
All right, cool. If I find somebody and it might
Charlamagne Tha God
be some money in the it, well,
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
then we could talk to me.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Versus.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't think there are no winners and losers.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Every celebrates the catalog.
Charlamagne Tha God
Everybody get a. You know, that was interesting to hear TI Say, cuz I always thought TI Wanted to do a versus. There was a point period where he was calling people out to do a versus. Yeah.
Angela Yee
And that was a thing. Remember him and 50 Cent had had that back and forth and he said that there was like, supposed to be a verses, and then someone pulled out and whatever. So I thought I was confused when I saw that too, but. And then I saw Swiss beats. Not so sweet. I'm sorry, Timberland. I saw Timberland comment like, huh? With a question mark. So TI Posted a video clearing up statements. Let's take a listen.
Charlamagne Tha God
First of all, I was drinking.
DJ Envy
My.
Charlamagne Tha God
My points weren't made clear as I
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
thought that they were.
Charlamagne Tha God
I was speaking on my experience in. In participating or considering the participation in verses. And I'm like, nah, I don't want to engage in that. Because my experience has been just going back and forth, bickering with people for the public's entertainment. And that's not something that I want to engage in. That is what I refer to as poor people activity, not the verses within itself.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I just got the phone with Swizz
Charlamagne Tha God
and I talked to Tamp earlier. Hey, listen, man, I've never did nothing but look up to Tim and Swizz. I had the utmost respect for them and everything that they've accomplished and everything
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
they've contributed to the culture, bro.
Charlamagne Tha God
And don't get me wrong, I've gone on record saying, can't nobody with me, and I stand on that. I also understand engaging in a battle of ego, going back and forth, bickering with other men. When I say it's poor people activity, I'm saying it's activity that I don't want to waste my time, effort, and energy doing it. I definitely want to see TI in the verses because the thing I love about versus versus makes people. It reintroduces people's catalogs to folks who may have forgot. Okay.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yeah. And I can't take away. I Mean, versus was something that I would say saved a lot of us during COVID like, when there was nothing forward to it. It put money in people's pocket. It gave us moments that I. I think that, you know, people really forget now. But you think about the locks and. And. And Dipset. You think about Jeezy and. And Gucci, man, you think ones that. That we.
Charlamagne Tha God
Nah, but he respects versus he said it. He was drinking.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yeah.
Angela Yee
He clarified and he said that he, you know, spoke to them, which I think is most important.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And I still would love to see
Charlamagne Tha God
TI on the verses. I would love to see TI on the verses. And y' all can say what y' all want. Ain't too many people holding up a 20 to tweet the ti I'm telling you that right now. Okay. And that's the beautiful thing about verses. It reminds people of how deep folks catalog can go. TI Got one of the deepest catalogs out there.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And there's a new verse that's coming up, right?
Angela Yee
B2K. Pretty rich. Oh, I know that's right.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's clean.
Angela Yee
It's going down during the BET weekend or BET week.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is that a big one? I mean. I mean, that's a big one.
Angela Yee
I actually want to go and attend in person because, like, I think it's gonna be a good one. Oh, that would be great. Y' all don't. Pretty Ricky B2K ringtone.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I could. I couldn't tell you. Five BT B2K and five pretty Ricky Jones.
Charlamagne Tha God
I know a couple. I mean. I mean, I know a couple of.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I mean, I know the ones I play in the club, but outside of that else. What else after that?
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't know.
Angela Yee
He was about to mix it up. Why I love you, bab. That's amaz. That's B2K. Yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
B2K.
Angela Yee
If y' all heard, he said, I know a couple.
Charlamagne Tha God
Name one more.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I don't know no more.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's it.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I.
Angela Yee
But when he hears them, he will
Charlamagne Tha God
be like, I definitely know. I know. I know. More B2K than Pretty Ricky. Absolutely.
Angela Yee
Yeah. Well, they. Well, they do have a verses going down June 26, I believe that date is so. So, like y' all said, people will be reminded of their catalogs.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm gonna watch. That's gonna be dope.
Angela Yee
I'm trying to be there in person. That's how excited I am. But yeah, and I just saw. Who's that? Oh, my God.
Charlamagne Tha God
The. The.
Angela Yee
The boy band that used to be together. B5. No, not B5. That's a good one, too. But the travel all around the world just to see her. Remember them? They just got back together. They still dance like they back in the day. I don't remember. That's a boy group. It's like three or four of them and they just got back together. They were about to go on tour. So basically what I'm saying is the boy bands is back. B5 is rehearsing. They about to get back.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't know nothing from no damn B5. Yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I don't know.
Angela Yee
I can't wait to get. I know that's.
Charlamagne Tha God
Y' all know the original one sound
Angela Yee
like a shot each.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
That was not B5. It's actually a vitam.
Angela Yee
They took it for somebody all but they redid it. That's how we knew.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And B2K versus ain't fair. If Omaran could do all his records
Angela Yee
on the side, I don't know. But B2K got solo joints, too.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Omarion got about 10 of them.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm not saying he know it, but.
Angela Yee
Yeah, Omarion got more than 10 bops
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
solo, but I'm just saying he got at least 10 of them.
Angela Yee
Yeah, I know, but. But our guy Pleasure P got joints.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, I need.
Angela Yee
It's going to be good. And that's going down Thursday, June 25th. It's not Friday, June 26th. And Chameleon should open up.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Okay.
Angela Yee
All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
That actually wouldn't be bad.
Angela Yee
I'm telling you.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's a whole era making too much
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
money for too much on the tech side.
Angela Yee
Not riding dirty no more.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I. I come in and make way too much money on the tech side. Investing.
Angela Yee
Yeah. Well, we're rapping. I will be in LA for the BET Award. Some. Some things to announce coming soon. Yes. And I. I am going to go and I have a.
Charlamagne Tha God
You had a crush on Spectacular or Baby Blue? Which one? I heard you.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Oh, my God.
Charlamagne Tha God
None of them when you was younger,
Angela Yee
throwing people on me. I've never talked
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Spectacular Baby Blue.
Angela Yee
I didn't, first of all.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Oh.
Angela Yee
Because it's over. The latest is done. I don't know which other talking. It wasn't pretty, Ricky.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right, who's the Breakfast Club?
Angela Yee
Yes.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne, the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get in some front page news. Start off with sports. Now, Algeria beat Jordan 2 to 1. In FIFA news, France beat Iraq 3 0. Argentina beat Austria 2 0. In Norway beat Senegal go 3, 2, 2. Now also beating Iraq.
Charlamagne Tha God
I tell you that Go Ahead.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Also NBA, the Bucks traded Giannis to the Heat. Now also Bobby Portis. So they're saying it might be the best defensive team on the east with Giannis and bam. Minnesota is sending Julius Randle to Brooklyn for the number 28 pick. All right, now, the NBA draft is tonight at the Barclays center in Brooklyn. And AJ dibenster, how do you pronounce the last name?
Charlamagne Tha God
Why are you asking me?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
He's drafted to go number one. He's gonna be joining us in a little bit.
Charlamagne Tha God
He's projected to go number one tonight in. Tonight in the draft.
Angela Yee
That's what's up.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What's up, Mimi?
Lauren LaRosa
Good morning, y'. All. How y' all doing this morning?
Charlamagne Tha God
Blessed, black and highly favored. How are you, Mimi?
Lauren LaRosa
I am good. So we start this hour with a major development in the Carmelo Anthony case. So Anthony has a new legal team team to fight his murder conviction, and it's made up of some of the biggest names in criminal defense and appeals in Texas. Leading the effort is Russell Wilson ii, a veteran trials attorney out of Dallas. An appellate attorney, he's the former head of the Dallas County Conviction Integrity Unit unit. Joining him are the Texas is Texas NAAC president Gary Bledsoe, veteran defense attorney Michael Ware, and civil rights attorney Clues of the Ben Crump law firm. The team also includes a nationally recognized trial attorney post conviction advocate, giving him one of the most experienced legal teams assembled for a case in Texas in recent memory. Now, this new legal team says it will conduct a fresh independent review of the case and pursue every legal avenue available on appeal. The attorneys they are representing Anthony pro bono meeting free of charge. Now, Anthony was convicted earlier this month in the stabbing death of Frisco teenager Austin Metcalf and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Now, Anthony's parents, they have long argued that the trial was unfair and that their son did not get a fair shake. Here's what they told me after the trial.
Charlamagne Tha God
A lot, a lot of objections wasn't done.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
It's a lot.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's a lot.
DJ Envy
It's a lot that wasn't done.
Lauren LaRosa
So do you believe your son received a fair trial?
Charlamagne Tha God
Absolutely not. Absolutely not.
Angela Yee
Absolutely not.
DJ Envy
Everybody lied.
Charlamagne Tha God
Look at the report.
DJ Envy
Everybody, everybody. Let's call it a surgery that everybody did. Basically just did it with no. And they never was called out on it.
Charlamagne Tha God
He said everybody lied.
Lauren LaRosa
Everybody. He said everybody lied.
Charlamagne Tha God
Who's everybody?
Lauren LaRosa
Oh, the witness, the witnesses. Well, Anthony has maintained that he acted in self defense and that notice of appeal was. Was put in just one day after the verdict. Now, this new legal team says its job is now to determine whether there were any legal errors if it happened during the trial, and whether those issues could ultimately lead to a new trial or other relief on appeal.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know what I find interesting? I mean, like, you know, we saw these videos of people talking about videos that they saw where he was jumped. I mean, I haven't seen any of those because the videos that we saw was very, very grainy and you couldn't tell what was going on. But I also thought it was interesting that none of the kids in the crowd were recording anything like, you know, that like, or like that were like, right, actually up on the fight. Like none of them pulled out their phones as much as people like to pull out their phones day and age.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
You know, everybody pulls out their phone for everything.
Lauren LaRosa
I think as we, you know, we watch this trial and we watch the appeals and we find new evidence. I do think there will probably be video that comes to light of people who did get cell phone video. Video and footage of what happened, perhaps.
Charlamagne Tha God
But why didn't they upload that immediately? Like, that's what I'm saying. Like, like a lot of this stuff, you know, people are saying they're waiting to see play out in court, but nowadays we see it way before it hits the court.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
We would have seen it a long time ago, but I, I, it seems like his attorneys, and I don't know, I'm not a, a lawyer or an attorney, but it seems like his attorneys didn't do such a great job when his dad's saying they didn't cross cross examine the fact that they didn't put him on the stand with the all white jury.
Charlamagne Tha God
I feel like he should have definitely attacked him.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yeah, they, I feel like they're thinking maybe hopefully with this new attorney, the attorneys, plural, that, that, you know, some more light to be shed on the case in a different way.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, for sure. And so we'll continue to watch that. And a disturbing new twist this morning in the kidnapping of NBC's Savannah Guthrie, her mother. So investigators say a second ransom note was sent just days after 84 year old Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Arizona on a home and claimed that she had died, actually. So according to reports, the note said that her death was accidental and included an apology to the family saying the kidnappers, quote, did not mean for her to die. Now, Nancy Guthrie, she disappeared Jan. 31 after relatives dropped her off at home near Tucson. Now the next day, her family received a ransom note demanding millions of dollars in bitcoin for her release. We talked about that, that. But investigators now say the note, it contained detailed information about her home, her bedroom, leading authorities to believe whoever wrote it had intimate knowledge of the property. And then just days later, a second note arrived and that's the one with no D, no ransom demand, but it claimed that she had died. Like I said previously. And back in March, she was interviewed on the Today show about the notes and this is what she had to say.
Angela Yee
There are a lot of different notes I think that came and I think most of them, it's my understanding, are not real. I believe the two notes that we received, that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real. So wait, are we just finding out about the note of saying that she
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
could be dead right now, months later?
Charlamagne Tha God
No, that came out, that came. That note came out recently.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
No, they said it can't happen two
Angela Yee
days, a few days after she was taking.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, I was talking about the note that they said they, they want a ransom now for the, the body.
Angela Yee
Yeah. And then a few days after that, they sent a note saying that she was killed mistakenly.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, I thought that.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
So apparently.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, it did. Apparently the note about her being dead, CNN had it and a local news station had it and the family asked them to hold out on it because they didn't want to jeopardize any of the investigation or anything until it is now just coming to light because another news organization found out about it and put it out there. So that's why we're just learning.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So basically because they said she's dead. They, she, they felt like the investigators wouldn't, you know.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Be looking for her for an alive or a woman that's living opposed to somebody's dead. Like, you know, she's dead, so why put all the resources towards it?
DJ Envy
Right.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I guess that makes sense.
Charlamagne Tha God
They have not caught these people.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yeah.
Angela Yee
It just. Yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And it's the third ransom load where they want money for the body and they can see everything in the world where everything comes from, but they can't see where these letters are being mailed, from what post office, how they getting in the mailbox, how they getting them like that is crazy.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, it is, it is with ring doorbell and everything that's happening in the neighborhood. So. But her family and the FBI, they continue to offer a 1.1.1 million dollar reward for any information. Now I'll just regard, I guess, you know, her whereabouts or anything that leads them to find her right now.
Angela Yee
So. The hell. That's crazy.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah. Continues to be a sad story. All right, well, that is your front page news. I'm Mimi Brown. For more stories, follow the Black Information Network and follow me Mimi Brown TV.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
All right, thank you, Mimi. Now, when we come back, Tonight is the 2026 NBA Draft. Now we have the projected one pick. Number one pick.
Charlamagne Tha God
Number one pick.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
His name is AJ Daibanza.
Charlamagne Tha God
Daibanza.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Daibanza.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And we're gonna be talking to him in a little bit. The young man is already making like over 7,8 million playing in college. So we're gonna talk to him when we come back. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne, the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes, indeed, he will be going number
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
one in tonight's draft. Pick in the NBA, allegedly. And we putting the energy out there. He's going number one. Ladies and gentlemen, AJ DeBonsa. Did I say it right?
DJ Envy
Yeah, you did.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Hey, welcome, brother. How you feeling?
DJ Envy
Good. Blessed.
Charlamagne Tha God
I can tell somebody don't like to be up this early.
DJ Envy
Nah, I'll be working out this early. I'm straight.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, you be straight. How are you, man?
DJ Envy
I'm good. I've been in New York for about a week, but, you know, I'm ready for draft night now.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
You're 19 years old. You're 6, 9. You're from Brockton, Massachusetts, and you played for BYU Cougars.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
A lot of people when I told them you were coming on the show, they were like, you know, at first they didn't know that you were actually gonna go to the league because you were making so much money. Seven million plus to play college. Was there ever an option of saying, you know what, maybe not go to the league, Maybe stay in college?
DJ Envy
My mom wanted me to graduate. She wanted me to stay. Yeah. But I was like, nah, I gotta go to the league. I'll graduate online. Yeah, I'll graduate.
Charlamagne Tha God
What is the desire to. I mean, of course, you know, I know that's every basketball player's dream to go to the NBA, but when you are making money in college, what is the. What makes you want to just go to the league?
DJ Envy
I mean, it was always a dream, lifelong dream. Wanna go play against the best, compete against the best, win championships. And you're making more money in the NBA too, so it's a low plus.
Charlamagne Tha God
I see that you've been labeled the next big thing since you were, like, a teenager.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Like, how do you make sure you're chasing greatness and not just chasing expectations that people have.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
You.
DJ Envy
I mean, I had the same goals since I was about 13 when I really wanted to take it serious. And I started taking it serious around Covid time, really working out. And I still have the same goals, and, you know, I haven't accomplished those goals yet. So I'm still striving towards some.
Angela Yee
What's your headspace right now? Do you feel pressured or confident?
DJ Envy
Nah. Confident. A lot of confidence.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yeah, that was a lot of say
Charlamagne Tha God
that you haven't worked out for any NBA teams before the draft, though. Like, like, like, why not?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
He said he just visited the cities.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I mean, it's kind of like a college visit. I mean, you just visit the city, they take you around the facility, meet all the coaches, all the staff members, nutritionist, everything. And I mean, you could choose workout if you want to, but you feel
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
like you didn't need a workout.
DJ Envy
I mean, like, just make it fair to everybody. Didn't work out for multiple teams. I was like, you know, just take me around the city.
Charlamagne Tha God
Cause I read also too, that the Wizards were saying that they might select Darren Peterson as the number one pick now. And I'm like, think that's because you didn't work out or.
DJ Envy
I mean, we'll see on draft night. Yeah, I mean, if it cost me, then it cost me, but I don't think it will.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Do you have an agent or you don't have an agent?
DJ Envy
I don't have an agent.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So your. Your family's your agent? Pretty much.
DJ Envy
I don't have an agent.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So what made you not go with an agent? Because everybody usually goes with agent.
DJ Envy
I'm not everybody.
Charlamagne Tha God
I know that's right.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I ain't mad at you.
Charlamagne Tha God
I ain't mad at you.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I ain't mad at you. I ain't mad at you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Does it motivate you to potentially be the future number one person pick? How do you feel like it puts a target on your back?
DJ Envy
I mean, a little bit of both. I mean, it was motivation towards the. Towards the season. So I'm not just, you know, playing for. For nothing. I want to be number one pick. It was a lifelong dream. I've been number one since I was like 13, so I don't plan on dropping in the draft, but it's also expectation. But it's gonna be a target on your back regardless.
Charlamagne Tha God
I like that you said you're not. You're not like everybody. I like that level of confidence. But what.
DJ Envy
What makes you different on the core in general?
Charlamagne Tha God
Both.
DJ Envy
I mean, on the court, I think I'm pretty versatile. Like, I'm six' nine, can do opposite the play one through five. I think I'm kind of like the modern prototype for NBA game. Just being long, athletic, can't handle it, can pass it. And off the court, I mean, I'm just me. I'm not faking it for nobody.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What got you serious? You said in Covid you got serious about basketball. Was basketball your number one sport? And what made you get serious during
DJ Envy
COVID I mean, I was playing basketball for fun, but I didn't really care about the wins and losses through, like, you know, middle school and everything. Everybody was just inside the house playing video games, and I. I just was like, bro, I want to go work out, like. And then I grew five inches in the summer, so that helped.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
That.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
That helped a little bit. Was that your only sports you played? Basketball was just football.
DJ Envy
I played football. But I got you tall for that, so I wanna. I don't want to come after my knees.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is it a friendly competition between you and guys like, like Darren Peterson? Because he, like I said, he. They. They're saying he might go number one to the wizard, but he also says he can. He feels like he can be number one.
DJ Envy
I mean, as he should. I mean, he puts a lot of work on we even. But we've been playing against each other since. Since who knows what, like 16 years old. I mean, so he should have that type of confidence.
Charlamagne Tha God
You both his ass.
DJ Envy
I mean, he won both games. The last three games he played. I mean, he won, but. I mean, but still got hella games.
Charlamagne Tha God
If y' all was just one on one in the gym, though.
DJ Envy
Yeah, it's dope. Yeah,
Charlamagne Tha God
One on one in the gym.
DJ Envy
You bust his ass, I'm winning. Yeah, okay. That's what I mean.
Angela Yee
They've compared you to Paul George when
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
he was 20 years old.
Angela Yee
You see similar.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I like the Paul George comp. Yeah, he's super athletic when he's in his Indiana days, just getting to his spots again to his middies, like a dynamic score. So I actually do like that kind of.
Charlamagne Tha God
Are they teaching players like yourself? Are they preparing y' all for, like, the business side of things? Especially with y' all making so much money in college?
DJ Envy
I mean, yeah, there's like different classes you can take on stuff like that, and I think high school are starting to like, incorporate that now because you can be like 14 years old making money, so. So I think it was kind of needed.
Charlamagne Tha God
How do you keep your hunger when you Got all that money in your pocket?
DJ Envy
I mean, I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish it. I mean, like throughout high school, I mean, I always wanted to be a McDonald's on American and stuff like that, so I had to get there. Then when I was in college, I wanted to make it to the tournament. And then now I want to be the number one pick and then it's going to be more goals on more goals. So I'm going to just stay motivated.
Charlamagne Tha God
Have you learned to say no, the opportunities? Because, you know, every bag, nothing. Right back.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I mean, I'm probably the most. I'm not going to say the most, but. But I have a lot of brand dudes coming at me. I only chose three, so, I mean, we just choosing the right money, not every money.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And what brands are you working with now? Of course, I see the Red Bull hat on.
DJ Envy
Red Bull, Nike and Fanatics and Fnatics. Yeah.
Angela Yee
Are there any NBA players that you study for improvement?
DJ Envy
Yeah. So my favorite player is Kevin Durant, but I watch a lot of Shay, Anthony Edwards, Luka, Tracy McGrady, Paul George, the list goes on. I watch a lot of film.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Do you have any mentors in the league?
DJ Envy
Mentors? Kevin Durant, probably. Kevin Durant, yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What do you like about his game?
DJ Envy
He's just super simple dude, like 7ft and can just do whatever. He gets to his spots in like two dribbles. Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's so easy to do.
DJ Envy
I mean, you ask the questions. Yes. What do I like about it?
Charlamagne Tha God
Who keeps you grounded, man, when. When everybody's like telling you how great you are, when you know you're projected to be number one, you're making all this money, like, who keeps you grounded?
DJ Envy
My daddy behind me. I mean, it's kind of hard for me to like get like two out of myself because he's always nitpicking that stuff.
Charlamagne Tha God
So what do you call nitpicking?
DJ Envy
I mean, like, I had 43 points. You probably think that's a good game. He was like, nah, you only had like six rebounds. Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Damn. Can't never impress an African father, man.
DJ Envy
Right?
Charlamagne Tha God
Never. Never.
Angela Yee
Good, though. Keep you on your toes.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So what? What, what? You know what was when you decided to go to the league and your mother, I'm sure, wanted you to get your degree. How difficult was that? How was that conversation? Or did she understand?
DJ Envy
No, she understood. And I told her that I'll graduate online, so I'll graduate within the next like four years. So that's kind of all she heard.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And she let Me go now. When you make it to the league, you're 19, you say you'll be 20. Is your mom gonna let you live on your own or what if they we all going?
DJ Envy
My mom's actually staying in Utah. My sister's about to finish school out there. She's a senior, she played volleyball. So she gonna stay out there for a year. Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
What's something the average person doesn't understand about being who you are right now? Like a top ranked prospect in this social media era?
DJ Envy
I mean, I probably just think you got everything easy because like you just seen a lot, but I mean it's a lot of pain, a lot of hours that just go unseen. A lot of people just see like the glitz and glamour.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's not even too many people you can talk to about the current position you in.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I can't. It gotta be like people in my position, which are guys in like the NBA or you know, guys in this pre draft process.
Charlamagne Tha God
Have any of them reached out like, like the people, the OGs, basically, yeah.
DJ Envy
I mean, I have a lot of NBA mentors. Like, I mean Tatum, Brown, Paulo, even like older guys. Jamal Crawford, like the guys that's been there, top high school guys, college guys to be in like top five picks. They kind of showed me the ways.
Charlamagne Tha God
What did they tell you?
DJ Envy
I mean, you only go through this one, so try to enjoy the process. I'm just gonna be alive, but just try to enjoy it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Are you enjoying it?
DJ Envy
I mean, I love it.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
How do you keep the wolves away? Cause you know tonight is draft night. There's gonna be a million and one women out there waiting. There's gonna be a million one guys out there. How do you keep the wolves away to make sure that you stay focused?
Charlamagne Tha God
Daddy got a stick.
DJ Envy
Mommy just lock in. Especially like a night like this, I mean it's probably gonna be a lot going on, but just stay close to the people you know, get your security.
Angela Yee
You'll be locked in through this whole process. Wright was louder. The criticism or the praise?
DJ Envy
It's kind of even right now. I mean, you got a lot of praise. Social media, that they're all praising you. But then you can go on social media and they're all criticizing you for any little thing you do. So I think it's a little bit of. It's a little bit of both. I think it's happening, but you don't
Angela Yee
let that get to you.
DJ Envy
Yeah, well, criticism, I mean, you need criticism, but like hatred n. Like you can hate all you want, but I'm not, I'm not feeling this anymore.
Charlamagne Tha God
How, how do you tell the difference nowadays though? Because most, honestly, most criticism is actually just hate online.
DJ Envy
Yeah, most criticism is, hey, but I can. I know what I need to do better. I call myself accountable. So I mean, when it's something that's like, okay, he needs to do this on the court or he gotta do this, but I can kind of figure out like, okay, like maybe they. Right, but if it's just like pure hatred, like you suck, like I'm not tuned into you.
Charlamagne Tha God
And you said you. Only you're. You said you're enjoying the process just a little bit.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Why? Why just a little bit?
DJ Envy
I mean, it's a libra. It's a lot, but I mean, I'm trying to enjoy it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Like media commitments, getting up everything. Everything.
DJ Envy
Yeah, yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
When you gonna tell everybody? Back off, man.
DJ Envy
They already off.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, I'm just saying. I'm just talking about in general, like back off. Give me a breather. Let me just sit down.
DJ Envy
Oh, after the draft. After the draft. Okay.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
You know, you know what's crazy, right? If, if you go to the Washington Wizards, you change that team is, is competitive already, right? You get Trey, you get Anthony. But then if you go to Utah, that's like home. So it's. It's either, either way you go, it's
Charlamagne Tha God
a win, win, win.
Lauren LaRosa
You.
DJ Envy
Yeah, you can say that.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Is there a team that you would prefer? Of course.
DJ Envy
Nah, everyone picks me.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Can you change the league if you go to the Wizards? It's like my Knicks gonna have a problem. Who was your team growing up? The Celtics.
DJ Envy
Celtics, yeah. Exactly.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
How did it feel to see the Knicks win? I'm just curious.
DJ Envy
How does it feel?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
It brought excitement back to the league.
DJ Envy
I was at game four. I was at game four. It was a great game. I mean, I'm a basketball fan. At the end of the day, the Celtics run in it, so. So I wasn't like ruining for the Knicks though.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
You was rooting for the Knicks?
DJ Envy
It was a good game. Like I was just being a bandwagon cuz I was reporting.
Charlamagne Tha God
Right?
DJ Envy
You feel me? When OG ended up, we had to tip and I was going crazy at
Charlamagne Tha God
your age, man, 19 years old. Like, like, like what's harder, Developing your game or protecting your piece?
DJ Envy
Protect my piece, Right? Yeah. I mean, I'm going develop my game. I'm going be in a lab almost every single day. I take some, I take some rest days, but I'm in the lab almost every single day. So I mean, the improvement might not be rapid because I'm working out so much, but I mean, I can see improvements for sure.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is it loud?
DJ Envy
What's loud?
Charlamagne Tha God
Like just the world around you right now.
DJ Envy
It's loud. But I mean, I got the right people around me.
Angela Yee
And what matters more to you? Being drafted first or being drafted to the right team?
DJ Envy
It's a little bit of both. But I think like the way I play, I'm super adaptable to any situation that, you know, any team I go to, I'll be, I'll be able to be the right fit.
Charlamagne Tha God
What's the biggest sacrifice you've made that people don't see? People don't see?
DJ Envy
I don't know. I mean, one of the biggest sacrifices was just leave my family and going to school in California. I'm from Boston, so I was three hours behind. I had a host family was super grateful for them. But I mean, like, see stuff like that. Like, people just see that I'm out of school, but they don't realize that like, dang, I'm moving three hours behind, six hour flight, can't see my family every day. So just little stuff like how did you adjust? I mean, it was good. It kind of got me ready for college, I'm not gonna lie. But even though I brought my parents out with me to college, so actually I guess it didn't get me ready, so. Because they're with me.
Angela Yee
So what's been the biggest distraction, if any?
DJ Envy
I mean, just people trying to get to you, but I mean, I don't really be paying attention. Yeah, but I mean, it's a distraction to some people. Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
You think players today are being forced to grow up too fast?
DJ Envy
No, actually, I just got this question. I don't think so too. I mean, obviously you have money in your pocket, so you might be able to take care of your family from a younger age. But I mean, you can still be a kid. You can still try to enjoy this to be a kid. I mean, I am.
Charlamagne Tha God
You're too tall to be a kid.
DJ Envy
I've seen some, I've seen some 7, 7 foot, 15 year olds.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah. What's up with that, man? I seen one dude that's seven five, seven six. Well, he's. What was.
Angela Yee
Who's.
Charlamagne Tha God
He's related to the girls from UCLA, I think.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Think.
DJ Envy
Oh, Dylan bets. Yeah, he's like 73. He's like 16.
Angela Yee
Jesus.
DJ Envy
Yeah, he's crazy.
Charlamagne Tha God
What do you do against something like that? Like, are you going to the painting and somebody. 76, like I like when I was watching the Knicks play, whenever they would go in with wi be on, they just go back out.
DJ Envy
Like, I mean it's tough. Like his presence is just like guy like wimy like why are you trying to lay the ball up? Like he's just, he's right there. But a guy in like, well like 12th grade, not 12 grade, like 11th grade. During that, I don't even know what's going through kids. I wasn't playing against like 73 guys.
Charlamagne Tha God
Do you think about that though? Like, how do you. How are you going to adjust your game to those type of athletes?
DJ Envy
Seven three athletes.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Because you play to the rim.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I play to the rim.
Charlamagne Tha God
Dunk, you gotta go for the.
DJ Envy
If you go for a layup, it's probably a block. So dunker just gets you a midi.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
But the league has changed so much. I'm sure when your pops watch the league, everybody went to the hole, right? That was the thing. But now it seems like more and more people are changing and they're shooting outside.
DJ Envy
Yeah, that's true.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
You change your game to that.
DJ Envy
I mean I grew up in this era, so I've been, I've been playing like that for my whole life.
Angela Yee
Does all this fame and attention make you second guess or make it harder for you to trust people's intentions around you?
DJ Envy
I mean, since a youngin I wasn't trusting people. So I was never trusting people regardless.
Angela Yee
Not even in Boston.
DJ Envy
No.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Trust nobody.
Charlamagne Tha God
All them white people?
DJ Envy
Hell no. I ain't say that, but I just
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
mind.
Charlamagne Tha God
What gave you trust issues so young?
DJ Envy
I mean, I just see how people move. And I have a cop, my dad was a cop. So I think I had built in like can't trust nobody.
Charlamagne Tha God
What was one part of your game that NBA scouts still underestimate? Like they listening this morning draft is ignited. Like, what's something that you feel like they might be overlooking?
DJ Envy
Maybe my playmaking ability. I think I like attract so much gravity to the point where like I get into the paint, I can just make easy reads, make my teammates better.
Charlamagne Tha God
Is Paul George the only person. Do you model your game after Paul George or is that something the scouts are saying?
DJ Envy
Nah, it's got to be saying, okay,
Charlamagne Tha God
who do you mind your game?
DJ Envy
I think the most accurate one I got was Tracy McGrady. O.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's some pressure there now. Yeah, Tracy was a beast.
DJ Envy
He was nice.
Charlamagne Tha God
Used to watch him when you was young though.
DJ Envy
Bro, how old you think I am?
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, D, you 19. Young now.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
He had to go Google Tracy McGregor.
Charlamagne Tha God
Who do you think you play like that? Nobody. Nobody sees.
DJ Envy
No, I think they pretty much gave the. I mean, I've heard Chase McGree. I've heard Jaylen Brown. I heard. Heard Taller Shay. I heard a taller Brunson earlier this week. I heard Paul George. I pretty much heard all the accurate ones.
Charlamagne Tha God
Have you spoken to Tracy at all?
DJ Envy
Yeah, I have met him one time.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay.
DJ Envy
Yeah, I met him All Star Weekend.
Charlamagne Tha God
Any good advice he gave you?
DJ Envy
Yeah, it was just time to keep going. If I want to get in the gym, we can get in the gym.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Well, we look forward to seeing you tonight.
Charlamagne Tha God
I like the way you answer questions, too, man. Like, very quick to the point. Always say less than necessary. I think that's the right way.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Did you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Did you learn this early?
DJ Envy
I mean, I had a camera in front of my face since I was 13. Word, so I kind of just learned as I went.
Charlamagne Tha God
But somebody had to tell you. It's like, yo, you won't have a lot of attention. Don't say the wrong thing, because all. Yeah, that's been used against you.
DJ Envy
That's like that, too. I mean, I kind of see people or even myself, they'll try to mix up my words. So try to say quick. All right.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
And then you.
Angela Yee
Your father getting. Yes, you answer the thing.
Charlamagne Tha God
You're from the Congo, right?
DJ Envy
Yeah, he is. He's Congolese. My mama Jamaican, so I have mixed.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Oh, you got both sides.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, yeah.
DJ Envy
Mixed genes.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
DJ Envy
Wow. Yeah.
Angela Yee
So you are ready?
Charlamagne Tha God
Definitely. Can't bring no white girl home. You better not even think about it.
Angela Yee
Shut up. He is disciplined.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
He's just like. I'm gonna shut up right now.
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, congratulations.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Congratulations. Good luck tonight, brother.
Charlamagne Tha God
I hope you go number one. All that good. This past weekend, like every other Sunday, you were on the court with the guys, playing ball. Just a quick pickup game, living out your hoop dreams. No triple doubles, but mean set of
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
threes in between buckets.
Charlamagne Tha God
One of the homers mentioned, he closed on a new crib.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
This is big.
Charlamagne Tha God
And while everyone's asking about housewarming and making plans to celebrate, you're asking the real questions. Like, has he spoken to his State Farm agent yet about coverage? See, homeownership is one thing, but the right coverage is the real game changer. Even more than your last hot streak. It's how you protect your legacy. Dropping buckets and bars on the court. A State Farm agent can more than assist you with finding the right coverage for your new place. If you have a claim, your local agent can help you File it. Yep, that's right. Over the phone, in person, online or on the app, they are ready to help you and they don't drop the ball. You know what I mean? Like a good neighbor. State Farm is there.

Okay, so quick behind the scenes moment about my business. Because people always ask me, like, how do I actually run everything? So Shopify is literally the platform where I turned this tiny idea into a business business. Before this, I was really just like popping up at any in person event, any vending opportunity I could, which I still do, but I wasn't really as focused online. I. I was like, you know, the websites are going to be too much to build out. I'm not like a super techie person, even though I can make things cute. And I didn't want to put up a website that would run my customers away. I wanted it to be efficient, to be easy. And Shopify helped me build broncogrinding.com I. Once I switched to Shopify, it finally clicked like, okay, I can actually do this. It's not about it being tough. It's about using the right platform to make it easy. Shopify takes all of the guesswork out. I build my own store, I manage my community, own my own customer relationships. Plus, this is my favorite thing. Shopify gets my products everywhere. I'm able to link stuff through Google, YouTube, TikTok, Shop the Shop app, even Chat, GPT and Instagram, which is very important for me. And Shopify's AI co founder sidekick, game changer, let me tell y'.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
All.
Angela Yee
Right, so it's helped me not only optimize my site, it helps me look at my sales trends, it updates my product skills. All the stuff I'm absolutely not an expert in, but it's like having a genius business partner that never sleeps. And right now, the Brongard Grinding storefront and the Black Effects storefront is busy and Shopify is handling all of the heavy lifting. I love that for us. I am pumped, like so pumped that Shopify is going to show up at the Black Effect Podcast Festival. This year in a big way. And I will be there preaching this platform to all of the small black owned businesses that partner with us. So if you've been sitting on an idea or if you're ready to scale, which you've already started, this is your sign. Go to shopify.com Ben if I can do it, you can do it too. Health insurance matters, especially for athletes. But healthcare isn't some one size fits all proposition, even though it's been treated that way forever. Thankfully, UnitedHealthcare has been rethinking things. As young female athletes, a lot of us grew up without fully understanding what our sports demanded from our bodies. We weren't taught enough about proper fueling, recovery or even how women's bodies develop over time. And when injuries happened, the focus was mostly physics, but the mental side totally ignored. But when you're all about being an athlete and you suddenly can't compete, that's tough. It's one reason many women don't return to sport after serious injuries. But things are improving. Research is starting to focus on female athletes, not just treating them like smaller versions of men. But there's still a gap. Real recovery takes a connected care team

and UnitedHealthcare is working to make that

Good morning. So I have an update with Big Tigger. The last time we talked about Big Tigger I had a statement that I received from his wife in response to the Allegations that there were some domestic violence violence, that it went down between the two of them. Right. So I was able to confirm. I spoke to Sandy Springs Police Department pio, who's a public information officer that speaks to the media over there named Officer Green, who confirmed to me that Big Tigger was actually arrested in relation to this incident with his wife. It was domestic violence disturbance. Now, I don't have the details.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I thought she came back and said it wasn't what we thought.
Angela Yee
Exactly.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
It wasn't what the people thought.
Angela Yee
She said that it wasn't what she was trying to make us think. Exactly. Well, here's what I'm told and here's what I know so far. But I'll keep you guys updated because I have reached out to the DA's office and I'll explain why. So. So Saturday, June 20th, the day before Father's Day, Big Tigger was arrested without incident. He was charged with aggravated battery under the domestic violence or a domestic violence statute in Georgia, and cruelty to children, because whatever went down, their kids were present. It was a domestic dispute. He posted bond the same day. And these are felony charges. Now, I've reached out to the DA's office because according to the police officer I spoke to at Sandy Springs, the DA's office has now taken over the. The charge charges in the investigation. So from the DA's office, I should be able to get more information on what happened. Like what a dispute. And I was told by a source that there is potentially a video in relation to this, too, that that is the reason. That is how the DA's office were able to come up with the charges.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So why was he arrested now when this, when this happened in May, right?
Angela Yee
From what I'm told. Yeah. So what I'm told, if you guys remember, when that conversation about an investigation came out, they did mention that something went down in May. I'm told that what was posted online sparked the person that was the police officers that were originally investigating to follow back to up to see, allegedly to follow back up and see why things didn't go anywhere. And there was more things that were uncovered and it led to the. The charges that we just had a conversation about.
Charlamagne Tha God
So you said domestic dispute.
Lauren LaRosa
Right.
Charlamagne Tha God
Because domestic dispute does not mean violence, by the way.
Angela Yee
Well, they're saying that there was aggravated battery under the domestic violence statute in Georgia and cruelty to children because children were present. But again, I don't have the details as to what the dispute was like, what actually happened. But I.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
But all you know is that he was arrested over the weekend and that possibly. Allegedly. There's some forces footage.
Angela Yee
Yes. And it. And it is involving his wife. So I'll keep you guys updated there if and when I hear back from the DA's office. I've been reaching out for a few days now, so. Yeah. Now shifting gears a bit. Sexy Red. There's a story that broke this morning. So Sexy Red and her family were down in Florida celebrating her mom's birthday, and there was over $500,000 worth of handbags and necklaces stolen from the house that she was staying at. Now there's a lawsuit that was filed by Sexyy Red's label, which is how this is coming to light right now. So during the birthday retreat, Sexy Red and team are saying that there were five security guards that were present. And I was able to speak to someone close to Sexy's camp who broke it down like this. There were five security guards present. Four of them went on like a boating water situation when they were celebrating the mom. There was one person that stayed back, which was an alleged personal security guard who's also now countersuing Sexy, saying that he was not paid in full for his services.
DJ Envy
Is.
Angela Yee
But Sexy Red's team is alleging that that guard, the via police investigation is a person who kind of like set everything up for the home to be robbed. He's. Now this guard is saying that he's owed money by Sexy Red. He's alleging that. And Sexy Red is saying, I didn't hire you. I don't pay you. The label does. But the label's like, why would we pay you out if we're, you know,
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
we paid you securities home and you didn't secure the home.
Angela Yee
And you know, they're. They're leaning into the fact that there was an investigation. There was. Was they alleged that there was a lie detector test that he failed because they did lie detector testes on all the security guards and he didn't. He didn't pass it. So they think that he had something to do with the. The, you know, the home invasions, everything. Yeah, so.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So he was supposed to watch the house while they were on the yacht and the house got robbed, but he was supposed to watch it. Is that what you're saying?
Angela Yee
Listen, I don't know, incidentally, owe him money. I don't know if he was stay. If he stayed back to watch the house, but I just know that there was one guard that stayed back and that was her personal guard. So.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
How many bags you need to have a half million dollar in bags Envy.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
It depends what type of necklace.
Angela Yee
It's necklaces and jewelry, too, though.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
It depends. Like, it could be a Birkenss, a Himalaya. That's about 2, 300,000 right then and there. It could be. You know, there's. There's different types of bags, and.
Charlamagne Tha God
You said a Mexican one.
Angela Yee
I said a snakeskin one.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, I heard Mexican.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I've never seen a Mexican Birkin, but,
Angela Yee
yeah, it depends on what the combination.
Charlamagne Tha God
500,000 in bags or just valuables, period.
Angela Yee
Valuables, period. So in the lawsuit, it says there was a bunch of stuff. There were necklaces. Necklaces, charms, rings, bracelets, watches, designer handbags totaling up to 500, 000.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And it's sexy red, so it could have easily went to five.
Angela Yee
And I actually was. I was actually able to see security footage of the home where you see a masked guy, literally, like. Or a person, because I can't tell whether it's a guy or girl, but they're legendary as a guy walking with, like, a bunch of stuff in and out of the home, so. Wow, that's crazy. Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
People starving nowadays. Not justifying it, but, you know, why have all those valuables?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yeah.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Well, if she had her security. Stay back. And that was the reason why they're
Angela Yee
alleging that security was a part.
Charlamagne Tha God
Look, you got staged for a reason, people.
Angela Yee
Yeah. Well, shifting gears to some happier news. Yeah, please. Yes.
Charlamagne Tha God
Do you really have something?
Angela Yee
We did the View yesterday. Yes, we did the View yesterday. It was my first time doing the View. Charlemagne's been there like, 50, 000 times, but.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, who's counting? 2001.
Angela Yee
But it was. Y'. All. It was such a great experience. First of all, let me just say, well, oiled machine, like. Like, it didn't even.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Why didn't you speak to anybody when you walked out?
Angela Yee
Because I think I was Charlemagne.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Spoke to everybody there.
Angela Yee
I was actually nervous. No. Yes.
Lauren LaRosa
Let me.
Angela Yee
Yesterday morning, I woke up nervous. Like, on my way here, I was like, oh, my God, I'm a little nervous. But it was like excitement and butterflies. Not nervous. Like, oh, my God. But I think that's what it was. It was excitement. And when I sat down, I realized, like, oh. So I. Like. I was like, y', all, I'm sorry I didn't hug everybody. Like, my bad. But we got into a conversation about ball spots.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, we did not.
Angela Yee
You did.
Charlamagne Tha God
I ain't say now. I ain't bring up no damn ball spots.
Angela Yee
They asked us about Netflix and how it's going on Netflix, and first thing
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
you Said was ball spot.
Angela Yee
Let's take a listen. You did something really cool this month. You took the Breakfast Club to Netflix to stream live weekdays. How has it been going and why
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
did you want to do this?
Angela Yee
Well, it's been going good, but Charlotte may be on there talking about all this stuff behind the scenes, talking about like bald spots and just different things.
Lauren LaRosa
Right?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
You have a bald spot.
Charlamagne Tha God
Calling him. Yeah, I'm bald.
Angela Yee
Yeah. No, no, no, no, no.
Charlamagne Tha God
That was projection.
Angela Yee
So. So it's been amazing though, because I feel like, like we're on air and we're on the radio and we get to do the segments. But then behind the scenes, I think people get to really see, like, how we are in real life. Like they love. It's like so much love and fun and people get to see that too.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
But wait, though.
Angela Yee
He's saying you have a bold spot. He is a walking listen to the
Charlamagne Tha God
Breakfast Club live weekday mornings on I
Angela Yee
Heart Radio and streaming on Netflix.
Charlamagne Tha God
That was unnecessary. And they put the camera, you know, they camera angled around your head. Promise you.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
He's like, you didn't have to bring that up.
Angela Yee
She was so confused. Cuz she's looking at Charlamagne's head. Like his whole face, everything is bald. How does he have a bald spot?
Charlamagne Tha God
I didn't bring up baldness. You did.
Angela Yee
That was a trauma response. You know, she was just so triggered by being here.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
She wanted to say it first before Charlamagne did it.
DJ Envy
Charlemagne wasn't going to say it was.
Charlamagne Tha God
What reason would I have to bring up large bald spot on the View?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
There was no reason to bring up
Charlamagne Tha God
a bald spot on the View.
Angela Yee
You never have a reason to bring it up on the Breakfast Club.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
But you do.
Angela Yee
Thank you, Jess.
Charlamagne Tha God
I just feel like it happens easier here. I had no reason while we were
Angela Yee
waiting for your ball spot onto the View.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes.
Angela Yee
All millions of viewers. You know what Charlamagne is saying. Don't fall. I can't pick you up on the View. I gotta let the viral moment happen. Oh my God. See, Listening.
Charlamagne Tha God
Talk about all the other things I told you. You on the way there. Why don't you think about that? Why don't you speak about those?
Angela Yee
Because we know the real you.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
We gotta go now. We gotta go. Can't talk about that stuff.
Angela Yee
Five seconds.
Charlamagne Tha God
I wanted Lauren. I thought that was a good look for Lauren. Because, you know, I feel like in the future, whatever daytime television is going to evolve into, I see Lauren LaRosa in that space.
Angela Yee
I appreciate that. And I told him, I told you yesterday. Thank you for that.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay. All right.
Angela Yee
Because it was a great experience. But okay.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay.
Angela Yee
See it. I'm trying to. This why I start with the bs. Show them love. You can't do it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Can we go to Doc?
Angela Yee
Oh, my God.
Charlamagne Tha God
After the hour, then. Salute to the women of the View. Yes. Whoopy always wants to come up here. You know, Whoopi used to do radio, so. He used to work.
Angela Yee
She said I had a great face.
Charlamagne Tha God
I ain't hear that.
Angela Yee
That was dope.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
She a great radio face or no great face? A great radio face.
Angela Yee
That mean that nobody can see it.
Charlamagne Tha God
We give you enough. Four after the hour. Oklahoma woman. Woman named Amanda Hendricks. Amanda, we need you to come to the front of the congregation. We'd like to have a word with you, please. She is a biological weapon. Okay.
DJ Envy
All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
We'll discuss.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
We'll get to that. Next, it's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's time for Donkey of the Day. There's a bunch of donkeys out here in these streets called Donkey of the Day.
Angela Yee
It really caught me off guard.
Charlamagne Tha God
We live a life where we bite our tongue based off who we may offend. We never would say anything. You are a donkey.
Angela Yee
That is why Charlemagne is here.
Charlamagne Tha God
Some donkey that Dave just saw themselves
Angela Yee
on the Breakfast Club.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay, Charlemagne, who you giving donkey of the Day to today? Well, Donkey today for Tuesday, June 23, goes to an Oklahoma woman named Amanda Hendricks. Okay. Amanda Hendricks is a disgusting human. Okay? This woman is so gross. And this is one of the most repulsive stories I've ever heard in my life. Okay? When I read this story this morning. Morning. I knew I wanted to share with the world immediately because it's so revolting, so sickening, so nauseating, so repugnant that I want y' all to feel the way I feel after hearing it. Okay? First of all, just yesterday, when we were in the dressing room at the View, I was saying how humans need to give themselves more credit in regards to how much we trust each other. Okay? A lot of us, myself included, will say things like, we have trust issues with people. But the reality is this whole system we live in, this whole life we live, this world road, is built on a system of trust. And for the most part, we do get a path and grade people, okay? We get in our cars every day and drive and trust that everyone on the road is going to follow the laws of the highway. No drinking and driving. Staying in your lane, doing the speed limit. Okay? Like we all are trying to get, you know, where we are going alive, okay? We get on planes and we trust the pilots. You go to the doctor and trust them to look at your private parts. And one of the things that I bought up yesterday was ordering out, okay? When you order fast food, when. When you order Uber eats, when you go to restaurants, when you go to coffee shops, whatever it is, you trust that the people making your food don't want to kill you, okay? So there is a system of trust we all operate on and we do a really good job. Round of applause to us humans, okay? Okay? But every now and then, you have a heathen, okay? A hideous, heinous heathen who comes along like Amanda Hendrix, who does something so horrid it makes you question how you can ever trust a human. Let's go to 23 ABC Bakersfield for the report, please.
Lauren LaRosa
After a long night bartending, Jennica Church stopped at Arby's in Broken Bow. It was taking a little bit of time. Thought they were probably mad at me because it was right about to close. Jennica said she had some history with Amanda Hendricks, the manager, but nothing major. She went home, ate and shared sandwiches with her father in law and grandmother in law. Jennica, her husband, the kids, and the grandparents all lived together. After that night, Jenica's mouth began to flare up like it never had before. The doctor diagnosed her with herpes several times a week. I get a flare up. It goes all the way up to the top of my eye. My eye twitches. I mean, it's very painful. You're probably wondering, how could she possibly connect herpes to Arby's. Broken Bow is a small town. Jennica says Amanda Hendricks was bragging about spitting in her sandwiches that night, and Jennica's daughter heard the story. According to the affidavit, Broken Bow police say they pulled cameras and saw Amanda
Angela Yee
spitting in the food.
Lauren LaRosa
She's charged with felony poisoning with intent to injure. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.
Charlamagne Tha God
Lock her up.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
That's crazy.
Charlamagne Tha God
Amanda Hendricks. What a hideous heifer. Just a raggedy reptile of a human. Just a filthy floozy. First of all, all, I want to salute all our listeners out there with herpes. Dropping the clues bombs for everybody out there listening to us with herpes right now. Okay? Millions of people have herpes. 64% of the world's population under the age of 50 have oral herpes. And 13% of adults age 15 to 49 have genital herpes. So I'm not saying this woman is a grimy gremlin because she has Herpes? No, what makes her a Batman villain is the fact she used biological warfare against her opponent. Okay? Herpes contaminated saliva. If you spit on me with herpes contaminated saliva, it could have same fatal effect as when a reptile spits with acid on Mortal Kombat. Okay, this infectious imbecile named Amanda Hendricks needs to be locked up. You already have a society of people worried about getting herpes the old fashioned way from putting their mouth on the wrong meat. And now we have to worry about going to Arby's and getting the herpes from putting our mouth on the wrong meat. Not to mention there are a lot of vaginas out there that look like an Angus cheesesteak. I don't know what that has to do with anything. Just an observation. People go to Arby's because for years Arby's has told us we have have the meats, but nobody told us the meat might come with an outbreak. Imagine going to Arby's for a classic beef and cheddar. But you leave with a permanent roommate. The gift that keeps on giving. You get bit by a lips. A lip monster. Okay, now you a blister sister. Okay, look, for all those who have a pom pom that resembles roast beef from Arby's, the last thing you want is herpes. Because now your vagina looks like the number three combo with extra horseradish sauce. Okay, Amanda and everybody listening, please don't let your anger make you disgusting. Okay? If somebody makes you mad, learn better conflict resolution skills. Take a physical time out. Step away from the person to prevent saying or in this case, doing things you will regret later. Okay? Practice some deep breathing to reverse your body's fight or flight mode. But don't turn yourself into a biological weapon. Okay? A biohazard banshee. And go out of your way to hurt people. Like I said earlier, this whole system is built on trust. And this is why trust is everything. When I pull up to the drive thru at Arby's, I expect a simple order of curly fries, not a simplex virus. Please give this former Arby's employee, Amanda Hendricks the biggest he haw. It's some nasty people on this planet.
Angela Yee
That is crazy.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
You don't want to play a game?
DJ Envy
Nope.
Angela Yee
Why you want mad?
DJ Envy
That.
Angela Yee
That is nasty.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
That's disgusting.
Charlamagne Tha God
You want to play a game?
Angela Yee
Is somebody Arby's?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I want to play a game.
Charlamagne Tha God
Let me pull up her picture for
Angela Yee
and was bragging about it.
Charlamagne Tha God
I already know what she is nasty. It is nasty. All right, let's play a game of guess what racist Amanda Hendrick, right? Man, shut up.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
But I'm guess.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oklahoma woman named Amanda Hendrick had herpes and decided to spit in somebody's food at Arby's. And now that person has herpes too. DJ envy. Guess what ration.
Angela Yee
Why.
Charlamagne Tha God
Why is she white? There's a lot of white context.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I mean, it just. Just feels very white.
Charlamagne Tha God
Just hilarious. Amanda Hendricks, a Oklahoma woman working worked at Arby's and spit in another woman's food and gave her herpes. Please tell me, guess what race she is. Why.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Why are you so confident?
Charlamagne Tha God
Is it Oklahoma?
Angela Yee
Oh, yeah. Oh, it's Arby's. It's Oklahoma.
Charlamagne Tha God
Amanda Hendrix.
Angela Yee
Amanda. Forget the Hendrix. Just Amanda. Yeah, she definitely Leah's white. And it was bragging about it.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
What you got?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What you got? What you got? Come on, tell us.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm be honest with you. I don't know what race she is.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What you mean?
Charlamagne Tha God
Cuz I'm sitting there thinking they show they got somebody lip on the mug
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
shot, but with a lip on the mug shot. And she's white.
Charlamagne Tha God
I mean, it's white. But the woman, the victim was white.
Angela Yee
I can literally tell the victim was white.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
So I'm going. Just assume.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
We don't even know.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, but I'mma assume. I'mma go. I think we. All right. I think that. I think that y' all are absolutely correct. Amanda Hendricks is Caucasian. Oh, yeah, she is. That's her right there.
DJ Envy
See? Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yep. She definitely white.
DJ Envy
She's white, right?
Charlamagne Tha God
That's white, right?
DJ Envy
That's white.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
She look a little mixed.
Charlamagne Tha God
She look a little miscellaneous in the face.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And her last name, Hendrix.
Charlamagne Tha God
What you think, like 50?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
50? We half right. We half right. All right, well, thank you for that donkey today. Now when we come back, we're going to chop it up with the mayor of New York City, Mayor Zoran Mamdani. All right, well, what we gonna do?
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, I don't know. You on the line or something? Yes. Oh, all right. Okay. He's on the line.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
You'll be paying attention. No, I can tell. All right, when we come back, we're gonna be kicking it with me. This is Iran Mumdani, so don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Charlamagne Tha God
Morning, everybody.
Angela Yee
It's DJ Envy.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Just hilarious. Charlemagne, the guy. We are the Breakfast Club Loan roasted here somewhere around here. And we got a special guest in the building, or I should say on the phone lines. We have the mayor of New York City, the New York Knicks Mayor, He's a New York Knicks fan, if you don't know. I seen him at the game. You were sitting high up though, Mayor.
Charlamagne Tha God
You was high, high up in the sky.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I ain't mad at you, but. Ladies and gentlemen, Mayor Zaran Mamdani.
Charlamagne Tha God
Welcome, Mayor.
Angela Yee
Good morning.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
It's such a pleasure to be back on. I'm proud to be here with, with Dariel Chevalier. Hey, listen, thanks for having me.
Charlamagne Tha God
Hey, how are you? You know, last time you was here, Mayor, you was. You was running to be mayor.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
That's right.
Charlamagne Tha God
And clearly what you did worked.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
That's right.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Well, you know, I looked at the secret sauce. It was being on the Breakfast Club, and I'm back.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Now you've been mayor for over 170 days and we always ask, grade yourself. What do you think that you did that was great. And what do you think that you did that needs some improvement? A little bit?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Well, you know, I'll always leave it to New Yorkers to give the grade. I do think that in this time, you know, one of the things that has been so exciting is delivering universal childcare.
Charlamagne Tha God
Absolutely.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
I ran a campaign talking about the cost of living crisis. And after housing, child care is the number one cost for working families. And right now, as we're speaking, we're actually towards the end of the application period for free childcare for 2 year olds for 2000 kids across our city. If anyone listening has a child who is 2 years old, go to my schools, NYC, you can apply and save more than $20,000 you'd be spending in childcare. In terms of things to get better at, you know, I think that you always have to leave yourself room for improvement. And I ask working people to believe in city government. And so every day they show me reasons why they've lost faith. And what we need to get better at is responding to those problems and doing it quicker. And I appreciate New Yorkers giving us the chance to do so.
Charlamagne Tha God
And you know, you said you have. Her name is very hard for me to pronounce. Say it again.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yes, I got you. Darieliza.
Charlamagne Tha God
Daria. Lisa.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Daria.
DJ Envy
Liza.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay. Hello, Daria. Lisa. Why are you sprinkling your magic sauce on Daria?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Lia, you know, I decided to endorse Darieliza because she's the daughter of a single mother caseworker who spent her life fighting for working people. And when I looked at her track record of someone who had freed some of our neighbors who had been unjustly detained by ice, I thought that there could be no better person to fight back against the cruelty of that agency, and especially in a district that's one of the poorest in the entire country, to lead on a message of investing in our babies, not in bombs. And right now, she has built a campaign that's on the precipice of making her the next congressperson. But what she needs is to just break through to New Yorkers who are too busy trying to make ends meet to think about their next election. And today is that election day.
Charlamagne Tha God
Until 9pm Darieliza, I want to ask you a question. I saw you say the establishment has failed your district. What does that failure look like to the average person paying rent every month?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
What is your district? I know it's parts of the Bronx and Upper Manhattan. Is that correct?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
That's correct. So it's New York 13, upper Manhattan in the Bronx. And, you know, I'm someone who has felt deeply abandoned by establishment politics, and I see that all over my community when folks talk about the moment that we're in, where their rents are rising, more and more of our loved ones are moving away because they just can't afford to stay here. And all of that coinciding with a housing crisis, coinciding with the terror that ice is raining on our community communities, coinciding with a war that nobody wants. Watching our tax dollars go towards this slaughter while our own neighbors are struggling to get by, while our schools are deeply defunded. And these are federal issues. These are things that we need to solve on the federal level and allow our partners on the city and state level to have the resources that they need to actually deliver the agendas that they're fighting for. So I'm deeply honored to be here in this fight. I'm deeply honored to be sitting next to the mayor and to work together to change the courts of our city and our country.
Charlamagne Tha God
How much of your campaign is actually about you and how much is about the momentum that Mayor Mandani has created?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
You know, let me just jump in to say this. I made the decision to endorse Darieliza. I don't know, Dari, maybe about a month ago or so. And a lot of it was in recognition of what she had built. She has built a campaign where every single thing, every endorsement that she's gotten, she has earned. And I'll be honest, it's easier to stay out of this race because you're talking about somebody who's challenging an incumbent. And yet she has built something that's so resonant with the working person struggle in this district that it's hard to ignore. You know, yesterday we were walking in her district in Harlem. We ran into a man walking out of a bodega. His hands were full, having just bought two, two packages of Huggies. And it just really brought to mind to me this, you know, Dariel talks again and again. Babies, not bombs. We're talking about a federal government that has spent tens of billions of dollars on bombs that are raining down on Palestinians, on Lebanese civilians. And meanwhile, we're in a district where people are scrounging every dollar they can find just to take care of their kids. And that same money could be invested back home. And it is sad that I can be on the show with you and I can still quote Tupac, and it's still precious. But we look at it all these decades later and it's still the truth that we have money for war, but we don't have money to feed the poor.
DJ Envy
That's right.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
And it's time to elect a new generation of Congress leaders who don't want to quote that, and it'd still be true, but they want to rewrite that about a new future that we could have.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Now, I want to ask. I'm sorry.
Angela Yee
Go ahead.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
No, I was just going to say to your question. I'm an organizer. I come from an organizing background. I've been organizing here for over 14 years. For me, this has always been about building the power of working people to have a say in electoral politics, to make sure that they are. They can see themselves in the Democratic Party, to see somebody who's going to fight tooth and nail for them. And I'm so deeply honored to have the support of all the members of our coalition, folks like the mayor, folks like Senator Jackson, and the various grassroots organizations that have endorsed. Because for me, that is reflective of the people power centered movement that we're building. This for me has always been bigger than this one election, bigger than this one seat. It is about making sure that we are building politics that actually invest in working people and invest in human dignity.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I do have a question. A lot of people have been saying that two things have been happening, especially in your district. One, that the crime rates seem like they're on the right rise a little bit. And also people have been saying that it's people are losing jobs in New York City. Can you both speak on that?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yeah, you know, I can definitely speak on that. I think when we're looking at the national economic climate, we're seeing pressures across the country. We're thankful that by and large, we're seeing a resiliency in our city where we are seeing higher than expected revenue from personal income tax as well as corporate tax. And what we want to do is to make this the best place to not only start a business, but to keep that business open. And a lot of that comes back to the belief that, you know, the more New Yorkers we have working, the better our city is, the more possible it is for people to actually fulfill the dreams that brought them to this city. One of the key parts of that is public safety. And I'm proud to say that, you know, over the last six months, we've seen the lowest record of murders you should shootings in our city's recorded history. That doesn't mean there's not more work to be done, because so long as there is crime in the city, there's work to be done. However, I think we are on the right path here. And. And one of the things that makes me excited about endorsing Dariel Issa is also to have a congressperson who is interested in investing back into the district and giving more constituents the opportunities they deserve to actually be able to afford to live in this district. Because when you think about the district, district, we're talking about Harlem, we're talking about Inwood, we're talking about Washington Heights, we're talking about parts of the Bronx. And in a lot of these neighborhoods, so many of the people who help build these neighborhoods up have been priced out of these neighborhoods. We need to make it such that they can actually afford to build it up and then stay in that.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know, Darieliza, for somebody listening who hears the term democratic socialist, right, and gets nervous, what do you say to them?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
You know, for me, democratic socialism has always been about centering working people. Working people are the ones who produce the wealth in our society and get to experience the dignity that comes with that. I think so often of the fact that work is what gives us all purpose, whether that's paid or unpaid work, whether the work we do for our families or the love we have for the jobs that we have, right? And to be able to be able to do that work in dignity, to know that you can still have. Afford your home, afford your kids, school, afford all the things need in order to lead a dignified life that is at the heart of democratic socialism for me, and making sure that we're coming to those decisions about how we use those resources as a community through democracy.
Charlamagne Tha God
I know y' all gotta wrap up, but I wanna know, like, what would this win say, right, if, you know, you know, Mayorman Donnie, you called APAC monsters, and then you doubled down and said they were a status quo for immorality. And, you know, you know, Darieliza, you've had your criticism as well. What would this win say, you know, for y' all and y' all movement, if you was to pull this off in spite of.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
I think this win would tell us two things. One is, you got to come back on the Breakfast Club before the election. And two, it would say that New York City is ready for a new chapter. It's ready for a new era of our politics. Politics. And we want the world to know that last June was not the end. Last June was the beginning. And that for a movement to continue, it needs more messengers. It needs more who are at the forefront of fighting working people. And I think in Darielisa, Claire Valdez, and Brad Lander, you see three congressional candidates who would show that New York City is ready to lead when it comes to writing the new story of Democratic Party Party. And it's a party that does more than just fight back against the cruelty of Republicans in Washington. It's a party also that fights for working people. And the way that we get there is by sending people to Congress. So thank you so much for having us. It's truly a pleasure.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Thank you so much. Mayor Zoran, Madani, Dariel, Lisa, who's running for US Congress today. Good luck with everything, and we appreciate you for checking in.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee

Charlamagne Tha God
And while everyone's asking about the housewarming and making plans to celebrate, you're asking the real question.

Peace to the planet Charlemagne. Tha God here. Now. Y' all know I'm big on ownership. Owning your ideas, owning your business, owning your future. And that's exactly why I use Shopify. Shopify is the platform that lets you take an idea idea and actually build a real business out of it. All right? It gives anyone the tools, the storefront and the control. So you're not building on somebody else's platform or somebody else's algorithm. Okay? It's your own store, your community, your own customers. That relationship is yours to own. All right? Health insurance matters, especially for athletes. But healthcare isn't some one size fits all proposition, even though it's been treated that way forever. Thankfully, UnitedHealthcare has been rethinking things. As young female athletes, a lot of us grew up without fully understanding what our sports demanded from our bodies. Bodies we weren't taught enough about proper fueling recovery or even how women's bodies develop over time. And when injuries happened, the focus was mostly physical, but the mental side totally ignored. But when you're all about being an athlete and you suddenly can't compete, that's tough. It's one reason many women don't return to sport after serious injuries. But things are improving. Research is starting to focus on female athletes, not just treating them like smaller versions of men.
Charlamagne Tha God
Men.
Angela Yee
But there's still a gap. Real recovery takes a connected care team
Charlamagne Tha God
and United Healthcare is working to make
Angela Yee
that kind of support more accessible so every athlete keeps moving forward. Learn more about how United Healthcare is committed to care@uhc.com care all right, well good morning everybody.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
We all the Breakfast Club. Let's get to the latest with Lauren.
Angela Yee
Lauren becoming a straight face.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
She gets them from somebody that knows some backs.
Angela Yee
I'm the homegirl that knows a little bit about everything.
Charlamagne Tha God
She be having the latest on the Latest with Lauren LaRosa. Sometimes you have facts, sometimes you have details, sometimes you have a little bit of everything. Well, it's the latest brought to you by Top Dog Law on the Breakfast Club.
Angela Yee
So congratulations goes out to Ms. Pat. She has signed an expanded exclusive overall deal with BET Studios. So under the multi year deal there is going to be an extension of her packed with the network now. So she of course does, she develops, she produces, writes and she is performing in original programming across BET's platforms. But now she'll be able to expand things wider within the Paramount umbrella. So she'll also have the availability or the ability to sell content to third party studios as well too. Right?
Charlamagne Tha God
Drop on the clue box for Ms. Patman. That is serious.
Angela Yee
Yeah, because a lot of people places will restrict how you maneuver licensing and selling different things. But obviously they believe in her ability to go out and do that.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So listen, that is big stop man. I don't like stop.
Charlamagne Tha God
Enormous stop. I'm big up his use other words colossal.
Angela Yee
Oh my God.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Just congratulations.
Angela Yee
I love it.
Charlamagne Tha God
That is a project of size, Jess. That's exactly what that is.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Drop one, include just say congratulations to Ms. Pat.
Charlamagne Tha God
I just did.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
They have to say the large, huge orca. You have to say none of that. You had to say none of that. Okay.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
Yeah.
Angela Yee
Congratulations to Ms. Pat. We'll leave it there. Now shifting gears a bit. Speaking of announcements, this is you know, not as, you know, a celebratory of an announcement, but Money Long. She literally, uh, right now, this news is breaking. She sat down with, uh, Gmail May, and she's talking about the health struggles that she was going through during the Brandy Monica concert. Remember, she had to step away from the doctor. Yep. And she's revealing some issues that she found out she had with her lungs. Let's take a listen to Money Long.
Lauren LaRosa
I should have never taken that tour,
Angela Yee
but there was so much going on in my life where I had to do it. And about midway through, you know, we're up in, like, the Northeast. It's really cold, and with autoimmune, like, the cold is not your friend. And so I got really sick. I got pneumonia, and I had to step away for a few dates, but I'm like, no, this is not it. I gotta go back. I went back and I think maybe about five or six dates in, it was just like, yeah, this is not like I couldn't even get out of the bed. I met my team, and my family were like, yeah, you just need to come home and rest.
Charlamagne Tha God
When the doctor said to you, double lung transplant, what was going through your
Angela Yee
mind at that time?
DJ Envy
I knew.
Angela Yee
I knew for a really long time that something was wrong. And when I woke up in the hospital, I felt so much better. Obviously, they had done whatever they needed to do to just kind of get me stable. But then all the doctors came in. It was like six people, and they're all like, you need a transplant. And I'm like, well, it sounds like you guys have a time. Like, how long do I have to live? And they go, a week.
Charlamagne Tha God
A week to live?
Lauren LaRosa
One week.
Charlamagne Tha God
What? And my.
Angela Yee
My jaw dropped, literally. I was like, that's rude.
Charlamagne Tha God
Jesus. Lord have mercy. But God. God. Yeah, but God.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
So she got the transplant, obviously, right?
Angela Yee
Yeah, she went through with all of the things. I mean, she's here, She's. She's alive. She's telling the story. So she.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
How do you get a lung transplant?
Charlamagne Tha God
I've never heard of.
Angela Yee
I've never heard of. I thought you needed both of them. So where are you getting these lungs from?
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Well, you always hear that sometimes somebody lungs. Somebody's lung fail. But. But the fact, like, where do you get.
Charlamagne Tha God
Right.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
The lung.
Charlamagne Tha God
From where do you get organ donors?
Angela Yee
Yeah, yeah. So it's.
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
It.
Angela Yee
Yeah. And your pomologist, who's your lung doctor, like, will figure out all the things for you to do. The. It's an extensive medical and evaluation. And then once you're. This is via goo. I've never been through that. But once you. Once your pylogist says that you need the transplant, I guess they. It's kind of like a heart transplant. They start all of the process for you to go through everything that you need. But there is normally a waiting list.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
How common they are can be too common.
Charlamagne Tha God
Because I. I never heard. I never heard of a lung transplant. So I wonder how common are they really?
Guest/Caller or Interviewee
I don't know.
Angela Yee
Yeah, I don't know. But God bless her, though. She said she took the tour, you know, just because she had to at the time. So I don't know if, like, financial or whatever the case may be, but imagine having to work and then, like, because of your medical reasons, you can't. And then it gets even worse than
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
what you thought, whatever the healing process is. Are you guys up here organ owners or.
Angela Yee
No, no, I'm not. No, I did have it on my.
Charlamagne Tha God
Let me look at my license.
Angela Yee
My mom told me to take it, to not have that on my license. Yeah, my mother told me the same. My mom, you know, there's a whole conversation about black people and their organs.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Kill you for your organs.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Angela Yee
So my mom was just like, you know, out of precaution.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
I'm not. I'm not an organ.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm not an organ donor.
Angela Yee
Yes. But I mean.
Charlamagne Tha God
I mean, I might if I knew who my organs were going to. I don't know.
Angela Yee
But I mean, wherever you are, organ donor or not, they still kill you and take them.
Charlamagne Tha God
But that's the problem. Right. It's the fact that we don't trust medical system. Medical system.
Angela Yee
You never know 100%.
Charlamagne Tha God
But. But then you see situations like this morning long, and you're like, oh, okay,
Angela Yee
she needed it, and thank God she got it. Well, shifting gears a bit. Speaking of trust, though, so Oprah Winfrey, she was having a conversation at Cannes and the appearance, she's talking about creators. Right. And how to use your platform for good at Cans. Cans. Yes. So she's having a conversation, and she's talking about how to use your platform for good. And she tells a story about Whitney Houston appearing on her show and falling. Let's take a listen. I had such trust from the Oprah show audience.
Charlamagne Tha God
Audience that Whitney did, I think it was her last show with us and she had gone back on drugs.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
The first interview I did with her
Charlamagne Tha God
when we'd gone behind stage and I
Angela Yee
asked her about her intention, she was clean.
Charlamagne Tha God
But the day she came to my show then to perform in front of
Angela Yee
the audience, she was not.
Charlamagne Tha God
And she fell off of the stage.
Angela Yee
And I knew that if that story
Charlamagne Tha God
got out that she fallen off of
Angela Yee
the stage, that everybody would be. That she would be destroyed by that. And so even though the audience was there and the audience had cameras, I begged them not to put those pictures
Charlamagne Tha God
out because it would ruin her life. And they did not.
Angela Yee
Now Oprah is getting a bit of pushback for sharing this. People are trying to figure out like, you know, if. If at that point it wasn't public, didn't happen. You push the audience. Why. Why have the conversation about it now.
DJ Envy
Agree.
Charlamagne Tha God
If you, if you asked her. Yeah. If you, if you told your audience to, you know, keep it a secret and, you know, she passed away, you probably should keep that one until you go to the grave.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
And what year was that? That was one with Whitney was on over 2009.
Charlamagne Tha God
But she did say specifically pictures, though. She did. I don't know. She didn't say not tell the story. She said, yeah, don't let the pictures go.
Angela Yee
But I think it goes in the vein of like, you don't want the pictures posted because you don't want people to know that it happened. And now people know it happened because you're telling the story.
Charlamagne Tha God
I mean, I think she should take her own advice. I don't think nobody should have ever known that.
DJ Envy
Right.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know, that's when she should have kept herself.
Angela Yee
Yeah, well, listen, she told the story and now she's having to deal with the pushback. So I don't know. Yeah, that's the latest for the hour, though.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
All right.
Angela Yee
It's brought to you by Top Dog Law. By the way, any accident, big or small, call Top Dog Law.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
All right.
Angela Yee
Happy birthday to Randy Jackson, not Michael brother, American Idol. Randy.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Okay.
Angela Yee
Yeah, I know y' all was wondering,
Charlamagne Tha God
did you think it was about it? Know exactly what you was talking about? You knew what? Knew exactly who you was talking. No, cuz when people.
Angela Yee
Cuz when you hear Randy Jackson, you
Charlamagne Tha God
think about, you know, Jermaine brother, judge from American Idols. Exactly who popped in my mind.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
All right, well, thank you so much.
Angela Yee
Happy birthday.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Fulfilling us in. All right, now the People's Choice mixes up next, it's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne, the guy. We are the Breakfast Club now. Salute to aj. Is that how you pronounce it
Angela Yee
today really mean? I was showing him some of the things that I'm getting tagged in on Twitter because we went on the View, and they don't like that political conversation stuff. Some people on the other side like it.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Salute to AJ Again. He's projected number one. He's gonna be. He's gonna be. Tonight is the draft, so he's projected to go number one. He stopped too early today, so. Salute to aj.
Charlamagne Tha God
Salute to AJ man, let's see if he go number one tonight to the Washington Wizards. Wizards going to have a squad.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Yes, they will.
Charlamagne Tha God
They just resigned Trey Young. I heard that they might get R. They might move at Anthony Davis, though.
DJ Envy
I don't know.
Angela Yee
How did you feel standing next to aj?
Charlamagne Tha God
Listen, my height don't determine nothing in my life.
Angela Yee
We know.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay. I never knew I was short till I saw tall people.
Angela Yee
Yeah. Oh, you reach some big things in life.
Charlamagne Tha God
I walk in the room now, and I feel bigger than the, like, life. God is with me. I know. I got. I got two. I got too much God in me to ever feel small.
Angela Yee
Okay? I know that's right.
Charlamagne Tha God
It's the same reason you wear your outfits with so much confidence. You know you got a light, Lauren. You know you anointed, so it don't matter that everything okay. None of it matter.
Angela Yee

Charlamagne Tha God
I feel so safe when you come in here with shoulder pads on. Okay. Get behind you and run the ball.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Okay.
Angela Yee
All right.
Charlamagne Tha God
I feel great when you come here with shoulder pads.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
Charlamagne, you got a positive note.
Charlamagne Tha God
I do, man. And the positive note today is about goodness, okay? Goodness is about character. All right? Integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage. Okay? More than anything else, it is about how we treat others. Other people. Have a great day. Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy (alternate or co-host)
