Lauren LaRosa
Hey, y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. And this is another episode of the Latest with Lauren LaRosa. This is your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment news, and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. Now, before we get into the episode, you guys know all of my low rider community. Anyone that's new welcome that we check in behind the scenes of the grind. Back on the grind. Today, I am feeling very full. I did a girls night over the weekend with friends for a friend's birthday. And, you know, anytime you link up, link up with friends, and, you know, the people that really know you for ruffle grow and just get a chance to just. Just take a break and just be. That's. It's just such a refreshing thing, even if it's for a couple hours, even if it's just dinner. But we got a chance to do dinner. Then we went to the Cardi B concert. Yes, I went for a second time. And then, you know, we. We spent the night at the Cardi concert with drinks and, you know, just having a good time. And I think, you know, what I began to realize in this adult or adult team phase of my life is that when you can spend time, spend it, it all matters. I think a lot of times I'm always so worried and feeling guilty about what I'm not able to do. So, like, the times I'm not able to pull up or not able to make the event or, you know, I. I don't take the time to just call and check in with everybody in my life that I love with, you know, the same way. So sometimes, you know, I might hear. You might hear from me very often, or sometimes you might not hear from me often at all. But when we check in and when we get a chance to lock in, you know, it's all love. But just growing into, like, adult life for real. For real is a very different mental. Like, I'm gonna say battle. I don't want to use the word battle, but just experience. Because, I don't know, you're just always. It's like I'm always trying to rationale, and I don't even have children, so I know it's going to be even worse once I have kids. Because, you know, my friends that do have kids, my family members that do have kids, like, that's one thing that I see them doing often or just hear them talk about often. It's just the rationale and trying to figure out the balance. When, to be honest, it just seems like in talking to everyone that there's just no real balance possible. You just learn how to make things flow. But when I say I'm always trying to make things rationale and just, you know, fight this, like, guilty feeling of not being able to or just, you know, realizing that, like, there, it's like certain friends and family members for certain things, times and reasons, and it doesn't take away from the love that you have for anyone, the place that they're holding your life, the meaning, the value or anything like that. But I think when you go from, you know, when you go through these different seasons, the areas of your life, you're able to spend more time with certain people. You talk to more people about certain things more. You know, y' all just identify differently at different points in times of your life. And there's ebbs and flows and majority of my friendships, not even just talking about family because family is like. A lot of my family are my friends as well. But I think family, they kind of understand a little bit differently, for the most part anyway, that they might not hear from you, see you and talk to you all the time, but, like, there's no love lost, but it's because they're family. So there's an unconditional understanding there sometimes because it still kind of, you know, I still get a little guilty and battle with that on the family side, too. But with friends, I think My thing is, as the ebbs and flows come and go, and I might not get to see everybody as often or talk to everybody as often, just trying to be intentional with the time that I have by also battling with the. I want everyone to know, like, yo, I love you. I am here for you. Call me if you need me. But things just change. Like, though the barriers to entry change, and not because you put them up at all, but I feel like, you know, just as we get grown and as we grow older and we, you know, start to experience different things in our lives and people have different accomplishments and even different failures, I think we kind of do it to ourselves. Like. And I always remember this, like, quote. I don't know if it was JD that said it or not, but I just always remember this whenever I'm. I'm thinking through these type of situations or these. These type of thoughts. You know, it was said that when things start to, like, change for you, like, as you accomplish certain things or just, you know, like, it's not even about accomplishments. It's just like, you know, when you're set and you're focused and you're shoot breaking chains and trying to, like, you know, redo what the circle of life looks like, and the barriers and the boundaries and all the things that your family is facing, you're trying to reroute that in a real. And break these chains and change the way and the different, you know, things that have been put on your family. Right. It's not that you're going to change toward the people around you, but they'll change because of how they perceive what you no longer can do, what you're no longer interested in, the time that you no longer have. And that had been so real for me in my, like, journey. That's been kind of one of the personal battles that I've. I've, like. I feel like I do it quietly because I do try and show up for everybody, but I feel like that's one of my, like, quiet battles is, like, I'm always like, oh, my God. I hope that this person doesn't feel like, you know, I don't love or support them because it's. Certain things I don't want to do anymore, certain places I don't want to show up to anymore. Certain things I just. Even if I want to do or want to show up, I physically don't have the time to. And spending time with friends this weekend just kind of made me feel a little bit better about. There's nothing I can do. About that. I do as much as I can with who I can and how I can and I value those moments so much. So I don't want to focus on the guilt that I feel sometimes when I'm not able to do it with everybody. I want to focus on like the fulfillment and the joy and just the, just the reminder that like just being is a win. Like just being able to get up, have fun, laugh, joke, eat good, like that, that is a win. Just being is a win. With everything that you focus on and you face and you figuring out on a day to day. Like, um, but it's, you know, this weekend, going to the concert, you know, I, I talked to you guys on a previous episode, make sure you check that out. About heading to the concert with the Breakfast Club, but going with friends, making it a girl's night, just really made me okay with the fact that like I can be all things, but like I'm only one person. Um, and the growth that I'm experiencing in life right now and the growth that I'm watching my friends experience and the fact that like it makes us distant from each other sometimes because I have friends too that are like, you know, going through their own things, whether it's positive or negative and whether they mean to or not, it makes them distant. And for me, I always try and give empathy and like never think about it like, oh, something has to be wrong thing. I think about it like, okay, shoot. When I'm, when I'm in that same predicament, what is my focus? What is my why, what do I have time for? What am I trying to quiet noise wise. So I don't ever hold it on anybody. But yeah, like this weekend I just, I, I really just had a conversation today that kind of, to sum this up, that kind of helped me put that it's not like a survivor's guilt. I want to say that because I think everybody is surviving in their own way. It's just, I don't know how to describe it. It's when things, when you start growing and your interest and you know, what you, your focuses are, start changing and just what you want to get to. Right? So maybe I haven't fully accomplished everything. Maybe I haven't fully established like, you know, the life I want, but I see what it is I need to do in order to do that. So I'm, you know, adjusting in real time. I'm. My friends came in here laughing this weekend because I posted a book that I was reading on Friday night and my friends was like, you were reading a book. You was in the house reading a book on a Friday night. And I was like, yes, y', all. I read books. And they thought it was so funny. But that is, like, the physical representation of what I'm trying to say is, like, as I'm growing and I'm changing and I'm evolving, the things that I'm allowing into my, like, view. So, like, what I'm listening to, what I'm watching, you know, what my activities are, those things are changing as well, too. And because of that, it changes kind of like, you know, what I'm around and what I'm experiencing, what I'm allowing myself to experience. And, yeah, I felt guilty for that for some time, for a very long time, up until this weekend. And I don't know what it was about this weekend that made me rethink that guilt. Not that I'm not going to still feel guilty about not being able to spend as much time and do as much with friends and family, but, like, it just made me rethink about how much pressure I put on myself in that guilt. Like, you're doing the best you can, sweetie, and that is all you can do, and that is fine. There's nothing else that you can do to change the fact that you are growing and blossoming, and it's making you reprioritize things and people. So that's how I'm feeling behind the scenes of the grind. And that feeling kind of helps me get to, like, a more complete, like, you know, I can kind of turn off that part of my brain, that, like, guilt part of my brain that I lean into very often that distracts me from things. I can. I feel like going into this week, I can turn that off a bit, at least until I feel guilty about not being able to do something again. But, you know, I think that was God, though, because that was beginning to peek back into my focus in my conscience a lot, especially when it comes to, like, family, like, my mom and my grandmother and what I'm able to do and not able to just physically time rise with them at this point in my life and, you know, be having to focus on, you know, work right now a lot and trying to find that balance. So, yeah, that was my weekend. And Cardi B brought out Fetty Wap. So we're going to talk about that in the latest. Let's get on into it. Let me get this straight. You're in Italy.

Women's sports chili from TLC is under hot water right now. So there was some recent donations. Not recent, I'm sorry. There were some donations from 2024 that surfaced that Chile donated the political donations to some organizations. Now, these organizations are linked to Donald Trump in various ways. So in 2024, Chile donated a total of $900 to three different organizations and the reporting of this has sparked so much backlash that she has actually had to come out and clarify something and defend herself and not even really just defend, but honestly just try and make some sense of what we are seeing, you know, via the news and what, where everyone's attention is being skewed to right now. Now, in addition to these donations, reporting has also brought up the fact that she Chilli had retweeted something on Instagram that was a misinformation based post about a negative one about Michelle Obama. Now let's get into the donations and then I'll let you guys hear from Chili herself. So there was a total of $900 over a series of donations donated to three organizations that are linked to Trump. Now, one of the donations was Winrad. Winrad is a payment processor for Republican campaign donations. They also serve as a payment process processor or a payment foundation for nonprofits and things of that nature. On the Republican side, it's a counter to Act Blue, which was the same thing, but on the Democratic side. And Chile donated, you know, money a few times over or throughout 2024 to this organization. She also, according to the FEC's official government website, donated to Trump National Committee JFC. And she also donated money to Never Surrender Inc. Which is the leadership political action committee or PAC that has been closely associated with Donald Trump. So it used to actually be known as his 2024 presidential campaign. It was known as Trump for President 2024 up until about 2023. 2024, I believe. It doesn't give me an exact date, but it would make sense that it stopped, that the names converted in 2024 after the July assassination attempt where he was speaking in Pennsylvania because the Never Surrender became like the echoing sound for Trump during that time after that shooting happened. Now, of course, and finding this out, people are upset. People are very upset with Chile. They are now associating her with maga. They are questioning her support, you know, of Donald Trump. And again, all of this is happening or being reported while reports are also focusing on the fact that she had retweeted, kind of like a conspiracy theory thing that talked about Michelle Obama allegedly identifying as a man on previous voting records. Now, this conspiracy theory has been debunked so many times by official voter registration records of Michelle Obama's. This is completely false. But Chili's Instagram page, I retweeted it and then went back and unretweeted it on Instagram. Now let's hear from Chili, because Chili is saying that her donations were for organizations that Supported things that she believed in, not Donald Trump, but for causes, for people. And that she fixed this Michelle Obama retweet once she noticed it. Let's get.
Chili
Let me say this first. I have the utmost respect and admiration for Michelle Obama, and I would never say or do anything that is disrespectful to her or to any woman. I would never do that. And I had no clue that this repost had happened until I started getting phone calls and text messages from everybody. And I immediately went to my page to see what was going on. Now, mind you, I'm not very computer savvy, so I'm looking for this repost button and I see that all of them, all of these buttons are very, very close to each other. And clearly I was scrolling and my thumb hit the repost button. I took that down and, you know, I would never post anything like that. I would never do something like that. That is not my character. I have supported the Obamas. I gave to the campaign both runs, voted twice for him, and supported the organization that Michelle had in the schools for exercise for the kids. Do anything that's harmful or hateful to anybody.
Lauren LaRosa
Now, what I will say on the organization side via the FEC's website, you can see that Chili's donations are linked to these organizations, Right? But you can't see what the actual funnel into the donation was. Right. So I've reached out to press contact for the fec. I want to be giving Chili's publicist a call back. I text and called them. We were talking yesterday and. Sorry, not yesterday, Taylor. We were talking over the weekend. I was literally headed into the Cardi B concert as this news was breaking. And at that time, Chile was really upset. She was like, really, really upset because of the conversation that this sparked and the fact that she wants people to know that she is not a Trump supporter, she is not maga. She was solely donating on organizations that she believed were going to help people in relation to veterans and human trafficking because of her own personal, you know, just things that she wants to see better in society. That's why I want to know exactly what the organization was that she donated to. So I can see on its face, does it represent as something connected to Trump? I mean, at this point, all you can do is take Chili for her word and take her for what we've known her for. And I know, like back in 2017, people were upset with Chili because she had made like an All Lives matter comment, but to be clear, she cleared that up and saying it was no way meant to down Black Lives Matter. She just, you know, was trying to be a human, but she understood the like, she understood the difference between All Lives Matter and Black Lives Matter. And she was not trying to denote or downplay Black Lives Matter and saying that. And she understood why people were upset at her comments then and she clarified it. But she has been vocal previously about, you know, not supporting anything Donald Trump related. I'm also told by her team, like she said in the video, that she had actually reached out and tried to closely work with Michelle Obama along her campaign, along Barack Obama's campaign route, and just some of the things that Michelle Obama had done. So I'm right now waiting to get back on the phone with them to try and develop this out more. And I've reached out to the FEC because if I can find out exactly what those organizations were, I think it'll clear up a lot of this for her. But again, at this point, all we have is what's presented on face value. And you guys might wonder, well, why even go get the organization's names if you can clearly see that on the back end, they are connected to Trump. She should have been able to clearly see that. And the only reason why I say that is because there could be an organization, you know, called I Hate Human Trafficking, that their ads solely, you know, just talk about how bad human trafficking is, the numbers on, you know, how kids are being trafficked and, you know, all of that without directly claiming their affiliation or allegiance to MAGA or to any Republican Party whatsoever. And that could have been the commercial or the ad that got Chile to a point where she wanted to donate and put her card on autopay to continue to support something. Now these are, you know, donations from 2024. So these are donations from years ago.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
So trying to backtrack that is going
Lauren LaRosa
to take some time. And I am here to do it because I think if anybody should be able to track it back, you know, maybe her from her side, I'm thinking like, you know, bank records or something like that. But this is from two years ago, but it's possible. But also on the FEC side, they should be able to see kind of what the, the funneling in link was like, where does she apply a credit card? What was the website, what was the name of the organization? And then I can kind of take it from there. So, you know, we'll see. I know right now, though, people are so upset. They talking about not going to see TLC on tour because TLC is Currently on tour with En Vogue and Salt and Pepper. That and that was just announced recently. Like literally just announced recently. And yeah, now it's iconic tour and now people are having these conversations and talking about not buying tickets. So I saw Salt of Salt and Pepper come out in support of Chili. So Salt said, chili, please keep your pretty head all the way up, sister. This world is very quick to believe anything and everything posted on social media, quick to crucify and slowly and slow to forgive. Even when you straighten it out. Haters will always hate. We know you and we know your heart. I truly play that you don't shed not once here or lose not one minute of sleep or peace over any of this. We got you. And any threat of not coming to the show from anyone will not stop us from loving on you and supporting you as a person and your legacy in music. This is the type of bullying we as people have to stand up to. Whoever comes to see us, great. Whoever doesn't will miss something special. Powerful sisters coming together. Positive vibes only. Continue to let your light shine, Queen. Now like I told you guys, when I talked to Chili's Rhett last night as I was headed into the concert and even today she had shot me a voice note and in the voice note she made it very clear like Chili was very, very, very upset. Like she was super upset by all of this and just the way that, you know, people will just like quickly turn the conversation on her. So I'm just hoping to be able to provide some clarity so there will be a follow up report on this. So you guys stay locked until the latest. And I mean, as much as I can get, I provide and we'll see what happens. I mean they're set to go out on this tour August 15th in Tennessee and then it'll hit Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix, Las Vegas. Like, you know, I know they just did the Iheart Music Awards at the ensemble performance to promote the tour as well too. And look, I'm gonna go to the tour, but man, I think it's just crazy. Like I, I understand people wanting to be upset, but first of all, I feel like people need to understand like $900. Do you know how much money people get? They give millions and millions of dollars to these political campaigns that they really trying to support something and force a candidate on the people. Like. And again, I don't have any additional information of what I've given you. So I also understand people being upset even if it's $900. But I'm like, yo, Elon, Musk gave so much money to Donald Trump in his campaign and then went and became a part of his. At like, one of his, like, advisory board and people. I mean, I'm people. We're still on Twitter or X or whatever you want to call it. People still buying cybertrucks. And then there's a pushback of like, okay, well, people throw eggs at cybertrucks and you got people turning in their cybertrucks. They don't want to support it. It's not happening in masses enough where Elon Musk is out here hurting, but people are in it. It's a viral and trending conversation that people are backing out of this tour already. Like, I just think it's crazy. Like, we always want to yell that we don't have power and people don't listen and we don't know how to get together. And we talk about communities that do know how to get together and do know how to cancel, but I feel like we do have power. We do amplify things. Like, we make stuff go, but we pick and choose what we do it around and how we do it and where we extend grace and where we turn another cheek. Because, I mean, there are so many brands that we still support. Like, I wear Balenciaga, Gucci. People have had issues with Ticket Master themselves and price gouging. And you know how that affects, you know, people that. The trickle down. Right? Like, people that can't afford certain things, how it's unfair. Like, there's so much stuff we still support, but then, like, we rally behind things that, like, I feel like even if on. Even if we do more digging and we find out, and again, this is nothing that I know for certain and we find out whatever, right? Maybe, maybe you choose not to believe Chile. Right? But even if that is the case, it's like, why are we, like, indefinite when it comes to, like, us, but, like, not indefinite when it comes to people who don't look like us, who have way more power and control over the things that y' all are upset about. Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, you know, all these. They literally sat at Trump's inauguration and, like, welcomed him into the White House. Like, I don't know, maybe I'm just making a lot of noise about nothing over here, but I just, when I saw the report, I knew that it was going to be a thing because it's Chile and because it's Trump. But I also thought that, like, it would be something that, like, people would be upset about. They tweet about it and then. Okay, but no. I'm seeing so much conversation about support or lack thereof for this tour now because of this. Let me get this straight. You're in Italy, child pretended to be the white Italian man's fiance. Hard to believe.

I'm telling you, the guy was a spy. Did you know Dahl got cozy with the Roosevelts, played poker with Harry Truman, and had a long affair with a congresswoman. And then he took his talents to Hollywood, where he worked alongside Walt Disney and Alfred Hitchcock before writing a hit James Bond film. How did this secret agent wind up as the most successful children's author ever? And what darkness from his covert past seeped into the stories we read as kids? The true story is stranger than anything he ever wrote. Listen to the Secret World of Roald Dahl on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Michael (Sports Analyst)
Experts are suggesting that UCLA is the number one challenger to UConn and that right after that would be Texas. SEC is so deep and so thick in just about everything, it really is annoying. So it's UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, LSU. Only ones that could possibly upset UConn

We'll be back with more information on that. I'll keep you guys Updated. But speaking of tours, not shifting gears too much. I told you guys I was at Cardi B last night with my homegirls. We had a great time. But when we before we went to Cardi B's concert at Madison Square Garden, I was asking the over at the Breakfast Club who they thought she would bring out because it was New York. And that night, with the first night at Madison Square Garden, she brought out little Kim. The second night, oh, and she brought out little Kim. And then the second night I met us in Square Garden, she brought out a boogie with the hoodie Partisan Fontaine. Now we're in Jersey. I already knew because we were having a conversation about whether she could bring out Betty Wap and Madison Square Garden behind the scenes. Like me and the producers at the Breakfast Club. And I was like, that makes no sense. So yesterday when Cardi was on stage in Jersey at the Prudential center, and this is her final, you know, little miss drama tour home or tour stop at home. Jersey, New York, right? She's like, do I need some help? Do I need some help? I'm putting the audio in here. I'm like, it has to be Fetty Wap. Who else would you bring out in Jersey right now? That's like big, right? Let's take a listen. Radio. Super well received as always. Like, there was certain parts of the song where, to be honest with you, I feel like his like, in ear was lagging. So I felt like he was like tracing, pacing a track a little bit. But it didn't even matter because there were certain parts of the song that like, he literally didn't even need to sing it. Like, the crowd was singing so much for him and everybody, the people that y' all hear in my audio screaming and singing the songs that that wasn't even like, my group of friends, like, the people around us were going so crazy when he came out very well received. So, I mean, that was smart of her to bring him out, but it was kind of like a dull moment. But everything that he's been receiving since he's come home shows that, like, if you. I think his music just takes people back to, like, such a good time and a good era and that the era that matters a lot for now, how he's being received. And he has a new project out right now, Xavier. I know he just dropped a video for White Roses, which going to song off the project and it's like center center themed. We did a interview with him on the Breakfast Club. Go check that out on Netflix. I might. I was going to say I'm done with concerts for a little while, but I know I'm lying because I know I went ahead to bow wow B2K, the boys for Life tour. And then where else am I going? Oh, then we're going to go on Broadway. We're going to go see Magdalion on Broadway, which is not a concert, but it's a live situation. She is doing a Moulin Rouge on Broadway. So I'll be taking you guys to all these places, so stay locked into the latest because we're the latest on the scene. Chilli [22:52]: "I have the utmost respect and admiration for Michelle Obama, and I would never say or do anything that is disrespectful to her or to any woman. ... I had no clue that this repost had happened until I started getting phone calls and text messages... I am not very computer savvy... my thumb hit the repost button. I took that down and... I would never post anything like that. That is not my character."
"Why are we, like, indefinite when it comes to, like, us, but, like, not indefinite when it comes to people who don't look like us, who have way more power and control over the things that y'all are upset about?" (30:52)
Quote Read by Lauren [27:51]: "Chili, please keep your pretty head all the way up, sister. This world is very quick to believe anything and everything posted on social media, quick to crucify and slow to forgive. Even when you straighten it out. Haters will always hate. We know you and we know your heart..."
[27:51–32:56]
[37:33–41:34]
Lauren LaRosa on adulthood and friendship:
"There's nothing I can do about that. I do as much as I can with who I can and how I can and I value those moments so much. So I don't want to focus on the guilt that I feel sometimes when I'm not able to do it with everybody." (11:16)
Chilli addresses the Instagram repost incident:
"I had no clue that this repost had happened until I started getting phone calls and text messages from everybody... I would never post anything like that. That is not my character." (22:52)
Salt's public support for Chilli:
"Please keep your pretty head all the way up, sister. This world is very quick to believe anything and everything posted on social media, quick to crucify and slow to forgive." (28:16, paraphrased by Lauren)
Lauren on internet outrage and collective action:
"I feel like we do have power. We do amplify things. We make stuff go, but we pick and choose what we do it around and how we do it and where we extend grace and where we turn another cheek." (30:33)
On support for TLC and Chilli:
"Whoever comes to see us, great. Whoever doesn't will miss something special. Powerful sisters coming together. Positive vibes only. Continue to let your light shine, Queen." (29:36, Salt of Salt-N-Pepa via Lauren)
Lauren LaRosa’s tone throughout is candid, analytical, and empathetic, aiming to unpack the complexity behind impulsive digital discourse and the private struggles of public figures.
