Angela Yee
Every day I wake up. Wake your ass up. The Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy
Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Lola Rose is here as well. We got a special guest in the building.
Angela Yee
The.
DJ Envy
The quote. Ladies and gentlemen, Clarissa.
Claressa Shields
She.
Charlamagne Tha God
What's up, girl? Hey, how you doing?
Angela Yee
Keep that close to you. Keep that purse close to you. Remember what happened last time you was here?
Claressa Shields
Yeah, and I got some money in here too, so I'm definitely keeping it close.
Angela Yee
You see what I'm saying?
Charlamagne Tha God
You got money, you just leaving bags around. That's crazy.
Claressa Shields
That bag was.
Angela Yee
And you still think about that bag, huh?
Claressa Shields
Wasn't it a Chanel?
Lauren LaRosa
You going to still think about that?
Charlamagne Tha God
Damn.
Claressa Shields
Well, I got more Chanels than Lou now, but God, it was like, you know, it was my first Chanel ever.
Charlamagne Tha God
Damn. Damn.
DJ Envy
What was in that bag?
Claressa Shields
Probably some lip gloss.
Charlamagne Tha God
It was just the fact that it was her first designer bag that she had bought.
DJ Envy
Crazy. She left a bag up here.
Angela Yee
I don't know if it was here.
Claressa Shields
I left it somewhere because when I went. Looked on my. Where I go, I looked at my footage. I'm like, yo, I had this bag in LA too. So I did LA and then I came here. So I think I left it in la, but either or.
Angela Yee
Jess, give it a bag back.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yo, I don't have.
Claressa Shields
I wouldn't steal her. I was doing that somebody else's bag.
Angela Yee
Why are you feeling Clarissa?
Charlamagne Tha God
I feel good.
DJ Envy
You feel good?
Lauren LaRosa
You said you got more bags now. We be seeing you popping out in all the shopping.
Claressa Shields
Yes.
Lauren LaRosa
And all the things.
Claressa Shields
You know, I got enough money to get stylists now. So
Charlamagne Tha God
you trying to be the artist. You doing music?
Claressa Shields
What am I gonna do in my free time? You know, Listen, I train, I work out. But I want a different way to express. Express myself. And I really can't. You know, trying to get million dollar endorsements. You have to have a certain look and have to speak a certain way. But it's like a little cheat code because you can say whatever you want to say in your music. So I'm like, I want to rap. I want to talk my stuff a little bit. I want to sing. I want to show my soft side, but I'm just not boxing right now. I just won. What was that? February? What? What the hell is.
Angela Yee
Not even February 22nd.
DJ Envy
February 22nd, February 22nd.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, y'. All. I'm sick of y', all, too.
Charlamagne Tha God
What happened?
Lauren LaRosa
That was my grandma's birthday weekend.
Charlamagne Tha God
What I do.
Lauren LaRosa
It was. It was the weekend of the 20.
Claressa Shields
27% of 18,000 in the building was women. I didn't see.
DJ Envy
They don't support black women.
Lauren LaRosa
That is not true.
Angela Yee
They just trying to support each other.
Claressa Shields
I think. I think you did have a show. Now, Lauren, I don't know about you, but I know you had a show.
Lauren LaRosa
That week was my grandma's birthday week, so I. I was here.
Claressa Shields
It's one day.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, but she. My grandma don't play by her birthday. That w up that day on her. Yeah, on her actual birthday, you got do certain things. I didn't do nothing. Like, I took the whole. Like, it was all for her.
Charlamagne Tha God
She could have my grandmother to see you fight.
Lauren LaRosa
My grandma don't fly.
Claressa Shields
Damn.
Angela Yee
What's your excuse?
Claressa Shields
I was at a show. I had work.
Charlamagne Tha God
She just.
Claressa Shields
Her and y had a show, huh? Y had a show, too.
Angela Yee
She don't even have shows on Sunday. She's a liar.
Charlamagne Tha God
What you don't even have.
Claressa Shields
I did fight on Sunday, Jesse, you lying.
DJ Envy
That's facts.
Angela Yee
You don't have no shows on.
Charlamagne Tha God
I'm lying.
DJ Envy
You could have said you.
Angela Yee
You could have made it back.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't want to lie to her, yo.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, I, I. So you was free. You just retired from your show on Saturday?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes, that was my. Yeah, that's my travel day. Cause I gotta be in here.
Claressa Shields
Look, I want y' all to come watch me whoop some ass.
Lauren LaRosa
I want to. I've been to. I haven't been to any of your fights. I've been to a male fight.
Angela Yee
That's not the point.
Lauren LaRosa
No, but I'm saying I didn't realize how in person.
Claressa Shields
I know ain't gonna never lie.
Angela Yee
You can compare it to a male fight. You ain't come to her fight.
Lauren LaRosa
Yes, and I wanna come because I talk so much about your fighting and different things that you do. And what I realized when I went was that in person, it's, like, so much more graphic in life.
Claressa Shields
Yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
And it's like, it's. It's way better in person.
Claressa Shields
I mean, you want to see my get their ass kicked real Bad. You kind of my fight and that's
Charlamagne Tha God
what I want to do. Thank you for the girl from Baltimore.
Claressa Shields
Yeah.
DJ Envy
So, you know, that's another reason, because she was on the Baltimore side.
Claressa Shields
Shout out to Baltimore.
Charlamagne Tha God
But look, when a girl came. When a girl called up here and was like, are you repping for the home team or Clarissa? I was like, I'm repping for the home team because I got to. But I know Clarissa going to win. You know what I'm saying? So.
Claressa Shields
But what does that mean? Like, I fought the Olympics twice. I'm like America's golden girl. People everywhere support me. People from the UK support me. You know what I'm saying? Like, we had 18, 000 and they were all not from America. We had some Africans in the building. We had some Britons in the building. Shout out like, it was. It was crazy. I mean, I got in the ring, I looked around, I said, this is a. I saw so many firsts.
DJ Envy
That's right.
Claressa Shields
It was crazy.
Angela Yee
Why did it hit you like that? In that moment I saw when you got in the ring, you looked around, you was like, wow. Like, why? Because you've done it before. Why in that moment?
Claressa Shields
Well, my last fight before that one was 16,000. So then this fight was 18, 000. But I looked around, I said, oh, y' all really in this?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah. Were you shocked?
Claressa Shields
Yeah, I mean, I'm always shocked because I'm just so humble about it. Like, I'm so grateful for my fans, you know, everything that goes on, social media wise, it doesn't overshadow what happens in real life. Like, real life, I have a lot of supporters, a lot of love, a lot of people who believe in me, who I inspire. And when I was able to just look at that, because a lot of times I don't take that in. I just kind of look at, you know, social media or look at the bad stuff. It's like, this is actually really good. Yeah, this is really good. Women's boxing is not doing this. I'm. I'm top three ticket sellers in boxing right now, male or female. The males can't even sell tickets the way that I sell tickets.
Angela Yee
So it puts life in perspective for you when you see that you got real support in the real world.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. Because you see 1.7 million fans. Well, up on Instagram, preferably. And then you. But it's like you got like these hate trains and whatever, all these narratives you got to see every day, all this bull crap, mean stuff. And then you go to an arena and it's nothing but love. And then building 18,000 real people who really there to cheer. For me, I think Franchi probably had about 10, 10 people there cheering for. And that's all right, cuz I did it before I went to the UK and fought against Savannah Marshall with 20k fans and about 100 folks was there cheering for me, I think. But either way, go. I still won though.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
DJ Envy
How do you look at the competition in the pulpit?
Claressa Shields
Right.
DJ Envy
Because now you're the person everybody wants, right. They want to fight you. You bring in the numbers, you got the belts. So how do you look at competition of how you pick your next fight? Like who do you want to fight? Who's talking the most ish that you like? I just want to beat the ish out of.
Claressa Shields
It's not really about who talking the most stuff. It's about who's the most competitive. When you look at my record and my resume, I fought against girls who've been undefeated my entire career. Girl girls who got two or three losses. I don't fight girls who got like a bunch of losses and don't got no resume. Like I fight against the best. So that's what I'm going to continue to do, you know, franchise who they thought supposed to give me a. Give me a fight. High school beat down, beat her down. Now we got Michaela Mayer saying that if I was to go down to 60, she'd fight me. Okay.
Angela Yee
Whoop.
Claressa Shields
McKay last too. She Daisha at 168. We supposed to been next. But she fighting the girl that I beat, Lonnie. Which don't make no sense because I thought I was scared of Shadisha and just speak on that. Me and, me and Shadesha are cool now. We cordial now. But we haven't been cordial for a while. And when I. I wouldn't say I ran down on her.
DJ Envy
But when you ran down on her,
Charlamagne Tha God
it was when you walked down on her.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. What was it? She was so Twitter. She was saying stuff about when she see me about what she was gonna do and this and that to my breaking jaws and. And spitting and all bunch of other stuff. So when I seen her, she was staring at me. She was walking past me and I was like, what the you looking at? Cuz I'm. I'm already on tip.
DJ Envy
You on go?
Claressa Shields
Yeah. Cuz you said when you went up online when you, when you see me, you going to put your hands on me. You going break my little jaw so that I'm not intimidated. But I'm like, I'm going to start the fight before you start it now. So she was staring at me too hard and I said, what you looking at? And she like, I'm just walking by. I said, that's what the better be doing.
DJ Envy
Jesus.
Charlamagne Tha God
But you don't feel like that's just like for the theatrics. That's how boxes talk is online.
Lauren LaRosa
You know what I'm saying?
Claressa Shields
N. No, no, no. Some of that stuff is too far. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Some of that stuff is too far. You know, I think that it's trash talk and then it's like disrespect when you talking about family and mamas and breaking jaws and spitting on people. Like, that's, that's. That's just too far.
Angela Yee
Helping Franon. Too far?
Claressa Shields
Yeah. Francon went too far.
Angela Yee
So I'm talking about when you shoved her. Do you think you went too far?
Claressa Shields
That's boxing. You see shoving all the time. Guys hit each other and face off, push each other, slap each other. I've seen Terrence do it. You see it at a lot of these weigh ins. That's not abnormal. But what happened after. Very abnormal.
Angela Yee
What happened after, like you talked the whole. The melee when everybody.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, like just, just the whole thing had nothing to. When I. When I pushed her, she laughed. I was more heated than she was, but I was heated from. From a number of things. One, Vada is calling me at 3 o' clock in the morning. You lying and saying that I'm taking PDS. I'm taking whatever that stuff is, the little IVs. No, she just said I was using the IV to. To rehydrate or something and that. And that wasn't the case.
DJ Envy
But is that against the rules? Yeah, it's hot hydration.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, up in certain states, it's a. It's against the rules. Okay, but I've never used what you're saying ever. No, I've never. I don't use. Since the fight, I've gained eight pounds. Franchise gained 30. No, she was big as hell. When we fought, she was heavy. I was like, oh, my God. From the weigh in to this, two different people how heavy she was. I only gained eight. I've only gained eight pounds since I weighed in and it's been a month. Usually I gained 15, 20, sometimes 25. Nah, she, she. She gained that in one night.
DJ Envy
You said what?
Claressa Shields
You.
DJ Envy
And what's the name? Accordion. How did y' all get called you.
Claressa Shields
She wanted to talk.
DJ Envy
Oh, y' all spoke.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. And I'm not really a person who do all that talking and stuff now. Like, I. I've tried it with people, and they've been like, you talk to them. And then next week they back doing some weird stuff. So me and her talk. She apologized about the snakes of that she did to me years ago, which made me not want to be her, like, not want to be cool with her no more, which was I was getting ready to fight against Christina Hammer. The odds were stacked against me. My first time fighting Undisputed, and she wouldn't helped her get ready for me in camp. That's not what a friend does.
DJ Envy
Damn.
Charlamagne Tha God
Wow.
Claressa Shields
Right? So I was heated from that, and the odds were stacked against me. So I'm like this girl, 20 and 0 with 10 knockouts. I'm 6 and 0. What the hell you doing helping her? And I called her to come to my camp. So that was my thing with her, where it was like, yeah, I can't respect you for that.
Charlamagne Tha God
So.
Claressa Shields
So then from there, we kind of had, you know, just didn't really see eye to eye. And then she turned well, she was pro, and then she was fighting, and then she started saying I was ducking her, which really pissed me off, because it was like when she. Dacia was 190, I was piecing her up back when I was 150 something. So it just stuff built from there. But when we talked, she just was very, very respectful, and so was I. And at the end of the day, like I said, I have real love for people. You know what I'm saying? And I never wanted us to be at odds, but, you know, the way that things was going and stuff, that she said, rub me the wrong way. And when I get rubbed the wrong way, you know, I have to rub you back the wrong way. That's just in my nature.
Lauren LaRosa
Who are your like. Because I know who your guys are, right? That, like, they always speaking on your behalf. They hold you down. But, like, in the boxing world, who are your, like, your go to homegirls?
Claressa Shields
Like, none of them right now. Danielle Perkins. I could say her. Samantha Kitchen. I have Danielle Perkins and Samantha Kitchen signed to T. Rex Promotions, which is my promotions. We're going to sign more fighters. Yeah, we got some more fighters.
Lauren LaRosa
We're gonna.
Claressa Shields
We're gonna sign. Danielle Perkins just became a world champion at 175lbs. Also at cruiserweight. No, they call it light heavy in women's boxing, so light heavyweight. Danielle Perkins is now a world champion. Yes, we fought, but after that I signed it to my promotions and. But I. I can't say who I'm. It's like these girls in boxing is so fake and phony. I just cannot. I can't. What you mean they fake? They be right here with you talking and then as soon as you turn your back, it's something else, you know what I'm saying?
Angela Yee
Like, that's how I felt about the Francine thing. I thought, you know, after y' all fought, it was cool.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah, I was like, that's. It's very reminiscent of like just how your personality is. Like if you, if you fool with somebody, you love them, you show it, right? And then it all just like turned different.
Claressa Shields
Well, I think it turned upon Frank John's end, you know, I think that the, the push ain't caused all of that. That she's saying that it, that it caused the push. She laughed and we supposed to face off again, hold our belts, and then go on back to our rooms and rehydrate from, from, from what I know, the whole thing started from her husband running behind the thing, talking about he about to beat me up.
Charlamagne Tha God
The husband I ain't seen.
Claressa Shields
Right, her husband. Cuz I pushed her. And that's when the security guard and them, they were trying to talk to him. And then a fight broke out. I wasn't even. I didn't see nothing that happened. When I seen the footage after I said, look at this. And then for her to put it like, oh, this always happens at Clarissa stuff. This is like, this is what she is. She's this, she's that. No, I'm not ghetto. I'm not ratchet. I don't street. I haven't been in the street fight since I was 16 years old. I've never put my hands on nobody, you know, out like, like outside the ring as I've been professional boxing. So it's like she just putting on stuff in my name and it's like, bro, you know how hard I work to keep my name out. The type of stuff, you know what I'm saying? I think back in 2018, we had an incident at a weigh in in Flint. I don't think, I don't know if y' all recall this, but my brother knocked the guy out. The girl who I was fighting against. Coach. Right. But I'm in the bathroom. I don't even know that this happened. And then they locked me in the bathroom and wouldn't let me out. I'm in the bathroom for two hours. I came in there. The commissioner Everybody came in. I weighed in. I'm asking them, why are we doing a weigh in in the bathroom? I don't even know what's going on. So that was 2018. That state of my. State of my resume for a long time. The fight got canceled.
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, wow.
Claressa Shields
We end up having a. Because the girl didn't want to fight without her coach. I got sued. The. The man tried to sue me, the damn coach, for $3 million. And I ain't even hit him and didn't even know who hit him until, of course, you got video and footage, and I'm like, okay, whoa. All right. But when somebody in your family or somebody who. Who knows you do something, they always put the headline story towards you because you're the star. Exactly. So cla Shield's brother did this. Clarissa Shield's brother did that. But it. It wasn't. Cla Shields did it. So now that my fight is canceled, we sold it out. I didn't get paid nothing. I made weight. I lost 35 pounds in six weeks. So from 2018, I told all my family when we had a weigh in or we had anything, don't put your hands on nobody ever. No matter the disrespect, I'm the one that get paid to fight. Don't ever do that. And my family has an understanding of that. So for her to make it seem like somebody sucks, somebody on her husband is crazy. Nobody. No, no, nobody want that to happen. And she keeps saying, I want an apology. I want an apology. Want me to apologize for pushing you? I already said, like, yeah, maybe I. Maybe I shouldn't have pushed you, but what the. You was. First you hit me with the brim of your hat, and then you shoving your head up on my head. And you're a pretty big lady, so therefore. No, you know what I'm saying? Like, you want. What you want me to do, hug you? Punch you? I pushed her.
Lauren LaRosa
But then there was all the back and forth online with y', all, too. Like, she was, like, posting videos saying that, like, the whole, like. Like the moment in the ring was fake, and there was, like, different things that were happening.
Claressa Shields
So that means she was fake. If the woman in the ring was fake, that means she was fake. Because a lot of words. Because she could have said, nah, I ain't fooling with you. It's f you still. It's this. She was like, I love you. I'm my only child. You always been my only sister. That's what it's really always been between me and her. She's godmother of boxing. Like, she's older than all of us. She the one who set the meeting up between me and Alicia Baumgartner when we was at odds, because it was. It was at a point with me and her where it was like, every time I see you, I'mma put my hands on you. After she did all that, and I smacked her hand on my face. Every time I see you, it's smoke. So she asked Francon to have set a meeting with me and her, and we set up a meeting, and me and her talk 35, 45 minutes with franchise in the room, and we squashed everything. But then just to go to. To where we at now, to where she's back talking trash about me. All this that she talking. And then I've never asked Franchise for relationship advice. I don't know why she even mentioned me and Pap when she went on Angela Yee. He's like, what are you talking about? I've never. Where did that come from? She just saying all type of stuff.
DJ Envy
What did she say? She said you called her and asked her for advice when your relationship.
Claressa Shields
She just said, like, she knew about me and Pat before anybody else. Nobody knew about me and me and Pat for six months. Nobody knew nothing, and we didn't want nobody to know nothing. It wasn't nobody business.
DJ Envy
Does it bother you with all the stuff that goes around online? Because I feel. I feel like sometimes you be answering. I'm like, why is Clarissa even answering?
Claressa Shields
I'm trying to get better, which I want.
Charlamagne Tha God
You.
Claressa Shields
You have. I've gotten a lot better in the last year. I can say that. But it'd be like, some of this stuff just be pissing me off. I'd be like, oh, my God, it's irking my nerve. Just some of this stuff.
Angela Yee
It's kind of the price of greatness, though, right?
Claressa Shields
Yeah. You know what some. Somebody said, you know, looking at my life? They said if God told you he can give you everything that you want, like your heart desires, you want to be undefeated, you want to be in good health, you want to have good man. You want to have millions of dollars, you want to have a house, cars, he'll take care of your family, you can have all that. But you have to deal with people lying on you. You deal with them creating narratives and plan on your name and discrediting you. Which one would you choose? And I said I would definitely choose.
Angela Yee
That's right.
Lauren LaRosa
I think what it is, though, too, is like, some of the stuff when you put your energy and your time and your, like, voice and stuff on it. Like, we talked about the whole, like, radio thing when you called the show.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, they pissed me off too, but.
Lauren LaRosa
But even that, it's like, that was you.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, she makes it bigger when she does respond to it.
Lauren LaRosa
And even that, I told you, I'm like, well, it's not a story. Until now. Clarissa Shields is calling the radio station because there have been things that I've reached out to you about, and you're like, why are we even putting light on this? And I'm like, girl, you called, like,
Claressa Shields
you know what I mean?
Lauren LaRosa
You make it where I now have to.
Claressa Shields
It just was annoying to be somebody to send me this link, which I tell my friends, don't send me shit. Just don't. But three days, three nights in a row, they sent me this link and there's people live calling into this channel and their owner just lying. I'm like, I can. I can strangle somebody right now. They're on there lying like, oh, her tickets aren't selling for her fight. We heard the fight's going to be canceled, so have not allowed in Detroit. Just. Oh, my. It was so many things on this call. And I was like, let me just call in and just.
Angela Yee
Well, not. Why not wait till the night of and show everybody sold out? You know what I mean?
Claressa Shields
Cuz it was in that moment, I was like, why y' all lying? Like, I know the feeling.
DJ Envy
I know the feeling.
Claressa Shields
Say what you want, just tell the truth. Like, even if it's bad, some stuff they say, that's. Listen, if it's anything bad about me, everybody believe it. It's something good. It's made up.
DJ Envy
They was like, is that you, Clarissa? She's like, no, that's not me.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, that's not me.
DJ Envy
We know it's you, Clarissa.
Claressa Shields
Right? I should have changed my voice a little bit more. But at the end of the day. But at the end of the day, I'm actually happy that that happened. Because what I realized was he just got back on there lying again.
Angela Yee
He's not jumped up.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, it was. It. It was one of those moments. I was like, yeah, you gotta understand,
Angela Yee
some people literally lie for a living.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, it's like the Lie Olympics.
Angela Yee
Yes.
Claressa Shields
And they're winning.
Angela Yee
When does greatness start to feel like a burden instead of a blessing?
Claressa Shields
Well, one. Greatness can never feel like a burden.
Angela Yee
Okay?
Claressa Shields
Ever. I'd rather be. I'd rather be great than be. Than. Than be a failure. Be a loser. No, no, no, but I would say that it had just moments where it was like, I don't want to be a celebrity no more, man. This is too much like they. You, you can't do nothing. Nothing's good enough. I've. I've accomplished everything in boxing. I don't even need to come up here and speak about boxing no more. It's like, who going to beat me? Who going to check me in boxing? It's not going to happen. But then you have this real life stuff and like to have people lying on your cat. Crazy. Well, you don't have a cat. We have.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes, absolutely.
Claressa Shields
That's one like a thing that's like,
DJ Envy
why you looking at like that to me?
Claressa Shields
No, but it's like I get what you're saying and deal people just, just saying something about you. That's not true. It's like that is where I be like, you know what? People having a perspective about you. That's not true. Listen, you don't have to like my Persona. You don't have to like how I look, how I dress. That's your opinion. But now when you start putting your mouth on my character, putting your mouth on my life, that's where I got an issue at. That's times I'm like, man, I really wish that I wasn't a celebrity. But you really can't take it back. I'm never going to stop posting on social media. Yeah, I make money off of there.
Charlamagne Tha God
How did that even come about though? Like the guy lying on the cat and all of that lying on you. How did that even have. Where would he have even gotten anything like that?
Claressa Shields
I'm not, I'm not here to get nobody a platform but. But myself. But I've never had a sexual or romantic relationship with that dude. 50 got this. Let me rewind. New Year's Day. Do you guys remember what were you guys doing New Year's?
Angela Yee
I was in Cape Town.
Charlamagne Tha God
I wasn't getting laid by my husband, period.
Claressa Shields
Husband.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
Okay, but go ahead. Shut up.
Angela Yee
Anyway, she was married to him.
Charlamagne Tha God
He black too though.
DJ Envy
Okay.
Claressa Shields
She like, she made him black.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay.
Claressa Shields
What's up? I'm sorry. No, but. So, all right. Boom. So New Year's I went to sleep. I had won some money at the casino. And then we went to sleep, right? I wake up New Year's, you like, breath of fresh air. It's time to be new. It's time to be. Forget who you was last year. It's new. It's New Year, new me, new everything, right? I get up at 6 in the morning, I read my Jesus calling, look at the Bible verse of the day, and then I get online, and then 50 is trolling me. 50 Cent, the mogul trolling me. First thing I thought to myself, well, he trolling me and Pap. What the hell I ever did to 50 Cent? So I'm thinking. I'm thinking in my mind that I do Maybe I trigger 50 in some way. I've never done nothing to 50. Nothing. From. From. From what I know, he's a fan, right? Boom. So from that, Pap got to going back and forth with him and whatever. But y' all know me, I can't keep my mouth shut.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
50, why you come messing with me? It's New Years. You don't want to be a new. A new Year new, you be better. Elevate, right? Stop being petty and stop being a troll. He 51. When he gonna stop? So from there, they got the going back and forth. And then Pat told me after the fight, he, like, pep already had the discs already locked and loaded. He like, I'm gonna diss this man. And when Pap say he gonna dish you, he gonna dish you. The lyrics in the bars came.
Angela Yee
So this he just put out.
Claressa Shields
He been hatched since he had it for a minute. He said he wasn't gonna drop it till after my fight because he didn't want me to be all focused for my fight.
DJ Envy
Because first this.
Angela Yee
Not.
DJ Envy
Not this one.
Angela Yee
The first one, I don't remember.
DJ Envy
I only remember Pat released, I think, two or three.
Claressa Shields
He did one in the car, the
DJ Envy
one in the car.
Claressa Shields
Then he got Agent Provocateur treatment on all. Treatment on all platforms, period.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Claressa Shields
But no. So from there, you know, he did his thing. But I also was, like, really? I was really confused, and I just had to call it what it was. I am, you know, I am the algorithm. I hate to say it, but how. It was Beyonce's Internet. It's Clarissa Shields Internet. I'm trending every day. Old stuff, new stuff, fake stuff. So I think that 50 just want to tie his name to mine. And he. That's why he trolled me and Pep that morning. So he got dissed. And now after he got this, instead of him responding like the mogul that he is and getting in the booth, he decided to lie on my cat and try to paint out this narrative that I slept with this guy, and. And that never happened. That's why now my lawyers has been in contact with his lawyers, and we sent Them a cease and desist. Stop lying on my cats. Call me ugly, call me handsome, say I'm strong. Whatever you want to say, but we not gonna do that.
DJ Envy
How did you do that? Cause I think the first or second time I met you was at the car show in Shreveport with Fif. So I was like, well, how did y' all go from being cool to totally that way?
Claressa Shields
That's 50. Why we here acting like 50 need a reason to mess with somebody?
DJ Envy
Cause usually there's a reason. There's something
Claressa Shields
going to troll you tomorrow.
DJ Envy
Nah, I know him for a long time, but I was just like, how did y' all get there? Like, it just friends, you know?
Angela Yee
Oh, that be fire for Swing on Envy.
Claressa Shields
I'm about to swing on Envy. I want to send a message today,
DJ Envy
you know, I don't know why you
Claressa Shields
going call your friend. Hey, I hit men. That's what I wanted.
DJ Envy
So you don't know how it got there?
Claressa Shields
No, I'm telling you, nothing's ever happened between me and. Me. Me and 50. He invite. He actually invited me to Shreveport. Paid for my flight, paid for hotel, everything. So to wake up to this on New Year's, it was like, bro, nah, dog, that's. That's. That's wild to me. So he started that whole stuff with me. I've never started nothing with 50, but, you know, I'm. I'm a person where it's like, look, don't start with me if you don't want to. You don't really want to go there. You don't want to go there. Just don't start. And the only reason I didn't really go super back hard at him, it was because, one, I was in camp, and two, Pap told me not to. That's it. Pap always tell me not to do something. He always telling me I got it.
Charlamagne Tha God
And sometimes you listen.
Claressa Shields
Sometimes I'm trying.
Angela Yee
Why you ain't going to booth against 50?
Claressa Shields
What? I got a man do that.
Lauren LaRosa
But when you got online, in response to the claims that you were dealing with the guy and you were showing the text messages or whatever, do you feel like that cleared it up? Because I feel like that made us more confused. Like, it showed us that you didn't sleep with him, but there was some sort of, like, y' all were, like, in conversation of some sort.
Claressa Shields
Please stop, Lauren, you. You fucking confusing me.
Angela Yee
They told you to stop.
Claressa Shields
Now, I've never had when she come
Angela Yee
over here, when he walked away.
Lauren LaRosa
No, because the conversation that you posted, I was cool.
Claressa Shields
With him, right? That's somebody who I would have considered a friend at the time. We wasn't no best friends. We wasn't super close. But all that, what he talking about, Trying to paint a nerve that never existed. Never kissed, laid in the bed, sex, Flirted like. Flirted like. It's nothing. I don't even know what that is. He's just trying to make something that is not. And that's it.
Angela Yee
You know what's crazy, though? You got to be careful of stuff like that even. I'm not even talking about, dude. But now that you got. Because you do have a newfound level of celebrity, right? So it'll be people from your past that'll just pop up all of a
Lauren LaRosa
sudden with all types of accusations, messages, and all these. And that's why. That's what I was saying by, like, being confused. Cuz I thought when he was posting everything 50, I'm like, okay, if she going live to clear it up, it's about to be like, she don't even know this man. He's just like a. Like a. A. A fan. And then the conversation. I'm like, wait, what the hell? Like, who is this person? Where did he come from and why?
Claressa Shields
Well, like I said, Shreveport. That's the first time I ever seen him. And then he started showing up everywhere where I was at. Like, I'm very out there. I'm outside. I was hosting the stripper party. That's where he. He came to and got. I. I didn't know him then. So to have a whole montage video and I don't know you. It speaks kind of for itself. But now he keeps wanting to establish we was cool. I knew you, bro. Who gives a. We never had sex. We never was romantic. So why do you want to make everybody know? But we were cool. So what? You and your man's lied. It's okay. Let it go. Y' all lie. It's cool.
DJ Envy
Did that affect your relationship with Papa or. He understood from the door.
Claressa Shields
First of all, I've always been transparent with Pap about everything I've been told him last year. So I'm like, yo, this dude don't. This. This dude I'm cool with been kind of acting kind of strange. He like, what you mean? I'm like, yo, he telling my best friend that I hurt his feelings and he feel led on or something like that. And I'm like, yo, how could he feel that way? That's not. That's not possible. But I don't know if y' all Ever experienced it. But somebody you cool with.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
Who's your friend who you think is cool? Now all of a sudden, they like, nah, we more than that.
Charlamagne Tha God
Listen, absolutely.
Claressa Shields
Me and you more than just friends. And even you don't know.
DJ Envy
So you've seen this happen. You've seen. You've seen the making of this. So you've seen where it was going.
Lauren LaRosa
She was telling him in the combo. Like, we. I got somebody. Like, she was trying to tell him in the combo.
Angela Yee
The same guy?
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
But it's like he just. He wants to. 50 paid this man to just lie, and he want to keep lying, and it's like he's embarrassing himself. He looks a mess. He looks a mess just up there, and it's just like, he needs to just stop.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
You know, I don't even want to be over talking about him because it's gonna bring light to the bull crap again. But it's more of a thing, like, y'. All. Y' all said, I slept with him. That's disrespectful to me. Why? I'm in a committed relationship. And then two, why would I sleep with you?
Angela Yee
I know you don't want to talk about it, but Lauren got three more questions about it. Go ahead.
Claressa Shields
Hey, yo. I'm just saying, though, like, Lauren be doing her job.
Lauren LaRosa
The only thing for me is.
Angela Yee
Oh, yeah.
DJ Envy
I thought you really knew. You were just guessing.
Lauren LaRosa
Why even show all of this like it was.
Claressa Shields
No, I just wanted to.
Lauren LaRosa
It's been times where I've hit you. Like, Clarissa, you don't even have to do all that.
Claressa Shields
I'm getting better. I don't know what y' all want me to do. Yeah, look, all I. All I can do is try. And when I try to get better, like I said, I'm getting better at ignoring a whole lot of stuff, like YouTube. Oh, my God. I see some of this stuff. I'd be like, jesus, please.
Angela Yee
Oh, no. You got people that have whole accounts. Just.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, just for me. Yep. I feel. And by the way, I feel honored.
Charlamagne Tha God
I was gonna say. How does that make you feel?
Claressa Shields
You should. I feel. I feel honored. They've been using some of my good pictures, but they'd be like, oh, this one. Ugly. I'm like, no, not that one, baby.
Angela Yee
Now, what about comedians, though? When comedians make jokes, how do you feel? Like, when they be spoofing you and they be doing, like, sketches, like, anything you put online, they'll do a sketch
Claressa Shields
about, oh, she's a fan.
Angela Yee
I can't remember her name. I wish I could remember.
Claressa Shields
And we're not gonna say her name because I don't know she's the number.
Lauren LaRosa
I only saw it because you commented on it. She was in the mall.
Claressa Shields
Oh, her.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
Oh. Oh, that was. I think that was my first video that. That I ever seen of her.
Angela Yee
I don't think she's being mean spirited, though.
Claressa Shields
I don't know what she being, but, baby, I ain't never worn no fake jewelry. Fake. Fake Van Cleef. I got paperwork on all my. This is 90k right here.
Charlamagne Tha God
Don't play Bulgari, baby.
Claressa Shields
I've never know. So that was my thing with her was like, you wacky tail for this. Like if you're gonna go to an actual Van Cleef store or something. But to say like, oh, my man is buying me fake jewelry. Ho, you wish. I don't even play like that. This 90k right here. Each of these was 6,000. This one right here, 10. I don't play that.
Angela Yee
You just gave her another sketch. She wanted to get her. Yeah, go and get your purple coat
Claressa Shields
and make sure you do the ginger hair. Your hair better be done. Next time you do a skit, keep your hair done.
Angela Yee
What does peace even look like for you nowadays, Clarissa?
Claressa Shields
Peace.
Angela Yee
Yes.
Claressa Shields
At home with Pap, watching the boxing matches at the hookah lounge, listening to loud music, you know, eating some food the girls love. Say less. We love Brooklyn Chop offs.
Charlamagne Tha God
Okay?
Claressa Shields
Shout out to them Popeyes. I'm talking about food and everything. Because I have to refrain from eating so much food when I'm in camp. So when I'm out of camp, I get to eat food, get the fried chicken spent teaching my niece how to box. My. My little niece Suki, you know what I'm saying? Spending time with them, you know what I'm saying? And when I get to go on social media and just post and make money, I don't have to deal with. Like, I made my account now to where it's like a lot of stuff can't get to my account. Like, I used to have it open to where anybody could DM me because it was fans and people that really needed inspiration and help I had. I've talked people from killing it. I've talked people out of killing themselves, talk them through fighting cancer. So I kept it open, but now it's like, you know, I hate to be the bougie one, but this is why Beyonce don't. Beyonce don't talk to y'. All. This is why. Because in order for you to keep Elevating. You have to block all of that stuff out. The Sally is the good stuff and the best stuff, but majority of the bad stuff. Because people for them to come trolling me every day, I think they just be mad that I still be sitting there, just laughing, happy, still flourishing in my relationship, flourishing in my career. You know, the last fight made four and a half, five million dollars. Then I got paid three million for a signing bonus. That eight million that we were talking about, that minimum been made back already. Not my next fight. We could talk about that. Which I'm gonna go down to 160. I'm going on to 160 because 175. I don't. I don't clean that out.
Angela Yee
Why does she. I wonder why should they just chose another fight? When your fight is the money fight, that's the fight that's gonna bring attention.
Claressa Shields
That's the fighting that's an actual nation. I can't answer that for you.
Angela Yee
Like, wow, that's crazy.
Claressa Shields
But I think her wanting to fight against a girl that I fought against, she wants to see is she really ready? I don't think she knows. After that performance, I put up on because. Hold on. Had to give, like, the Franchise. But Franchise beat Shadesha, right? Okay, so it's like, for today, she was saying she can beat me. It's like, but I beat her. And I didn't only just beat Frenchon. I beat the shit out of Franchise. Like, it wasn't just a. You know, it was a. I enjoyed that fight. I love watching the highlights.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
Just. She ran up with two pointers. I hit her with 10. It's crazy.
DJ Envy
Now, I wanted to ask too. With Papoose's birthday, you had two cards. The rapping card and the singing card.
Claressa Shields
Yeah.
DJ Envy
Did you have both songs ready just in case?
Claressa Shields
No, I. I didn't have neither ready. I didn't have neither one of them ready. That was just like, whichever one he pick, I'm gonna try to get in the booth and do something. Really? I. I didn't have neither ready. But we all. It was so many other cars, rage room or gun range. A thousand dollars or $10,000. He was so mad. He picked a thousand dollars.
DJ Envy
He picked $1,000.
Claressa Shields
Oh, my God. He was heated. I'm like. He like, what type of birthday is this? I'm like, you get to pick. I don't know what I'm picking. I said, I told you it was money. And you just. And it was like when he was going toward doing that 10,000 I was like.
Angela Yee
So you set him up?
DJ Envy
You set him up. So he went to the thousand dollars.
Claressa Shields
I'm like, nah, I gave him like a little look. And he was like. I was like. And he picked it. I was like, good for you. 1,000 versus 10,000.
Charlamagne Tha God
And then you went in the booth and you made the song.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, yeah, I made a song.
Angela Yee
You know, people see that and they'll say that that fuels the rumors that Pap is with Clarissa. Cause Clarissa takes care of him, Clarissa gives him money.
Claressa Shields
What, it was a card game? Is that what they would do with that?
Angela Yee
Yes.
Claressa Shields
Well, I'm saying that's what, that's how they pin out narratives. But I, but I will tell you something though. Pat pays my mortgage. He pays my car insurance and my car note. And what else do we do? I've never, I haven't paid for a flight or for a hotel. I don't know how long. That's a man right there.
Charlamagne Tha God
And you say that all the time.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, and, and the thing is with, with that he's still like right there with me all the time. And when we're not together, he in the booth, he in the studio. He dropping more music this year. But I've never. Okay, so I didn't know much about Pat before I met him, but the time that we've been together, I never heard nothing bad about him.
DJ Envy
We know. Parents want to feel confident as their teens navigate social media. With Instagram teen accounts, teens get automatic protections by default. Teens between the ages of 13 to 17 are automatically put into a protective experience. That means they get built in content settings for what they see, contact limits on who can contact them, and time management tools like daily time limit reminders, as well as sleep mode, which mutes notifications from 10pm to 7am plus, teens under 16 need a parent's permission to change any of these settings to be less strict. Instagram continues to work on building new safety features to help create age appropriate experiences for teens. Now, you know me and my wife, married 24 years and together over 30. And yes, we still speak on the phone every day. I mean, the early days I didn't have a cell phone. I couldn't afford a cell phone. And the cell phones were like the size of a. A man's purse. But anyway, I love speaking to my wife over the phone. People say we talk too much, but that's my best friend. Why shouldn't we be able to talk all the time? All day long? 24, 7. But did you know that 2026 will mark the 150th anniversary of the first ever phone call. It took place March 10, 1876. And that call sparked it all for the first long distance phone lines. The first lines across America, the first line across the Atlantic, the first round the world called, the first commercial cell Service, the first 911 system. AT&T has been connecting people for 150 years in so many different ways. Thank God we have cell phones. I can connect to my moms, my pops and my whole family. Thank you. AT&T.

Claressa Shields
Until that stuff happened on social media, nothing.
DJ Envy
That's true.
Claressa Shields
And I definitely never heard that he was no broke dude. But I would tell the girls this, who be saying that why I gotta with a broken. But y' all don't. What make y' all think that? If I got my own money. What's the song? Five houses, four cars, I ain't got no kids. Why I gotta be the one to mess with somebody that's broke? That just. That just don't make sense. Yeah, so that's not the case. But if that's what they want to paint it out to be, they get painted out to be. But that's just not what it is.
Angela Yee
Not a booth.
Claressa Shields
Yeah.
Angela Yee
You went in the booth.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, so I went in the booth and I was doing some stuff. So my grandma wanted me to sing when I was younger, but I'm like scared to sing in front of people.
Charlamagne Tha God
Like, you got like a little voice, though. You got like a little voice.
Claressa Shields
I got a little something something going on. But you know what, Ari Lennox, when I sent it to her and she gave me okay, I said, oh, I'm dropping this.
Lauren LaRosa
We love Ari.
Claressa Shields
I said, so wait, do I got the voice memo? Let me see. It was so cute.
Angela Yee
Sang the song to Ari.
Charlamagne Tha God
She needed a real artist opinion and she got it.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
So Faithful is coming out in a couple of days. Oh, it's gonna be on dsp. Jesus Christ. Everybody want the full. So I only dropped like a little teaser. Yeah, on my birthday. But let me see. Let me find Ari in here. It was so nice, too, y'. All. Like, I just love her so much.
Angela Yee
No, are good people.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, she is. We just had her up here, you know, she dropped.
Claressa Shields
Hold on. Here you go. That was a vibe. Like, a real whole vibe and just beautiful and. And catchy. That's my girl. I'm gonna let y' all listen to. That's it. But it was like she talked for, like, a minute. A minute and like 35 seconds of just like, that was really good. You should drop it. And I told her, I said, listen, I'm scared as hell to drop it. Like, I'd rather just let him listen to it and keep it there. But even when Pap heard it, he was like.
Charlamagne Tha God
He was shocked.
Claressa Shields
Okay.
Angela Yee
They gonna talk anyway, so you might as well give them something to talk about.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, and make a couple dollars.
DJ Envy
Well, just to clear up, that was Pap's birthday when she did the call. So he was like, well, that's gonna fuel the rumors she was giving a gift.
Angela Yee
I didn't know that, but I'm just saying that ain't gonna stop the Internet from Internet.
DJ Envy
Nah, but that was his birthday. That's why she was doing nice things, especially for his birthday.
Claressa Shields
It doesn't matter in real life. Happens the provider, even in his family. Like, I'm the provider in my family. You know what I'm saying? We just two people that came together and we love each other. But it's like, all this. I think it's hard for people to think that I'm super girly because I box. And it's. It's very shallow of them, but it's like, at the end of the day, my. My cat worked just like, y. Probably even better.
Lauren LaRosa
Do you ever get, like. Because there's so that narrative that Charlemagne's talking about, right? And so many others are out there, and it just sticks with y'.
Angela Yee
All.
Lauren LaRosa
Like, do you ever get emotional to a point where you're just. Like, it upsets you. And, like, that's something that y' all are dealing with internally at all. Like, you seem like you brush it off. But, like, which.
Angela Yee
Which narrative?
Claressa Shields
Like, the.
Lauren LaRosa
The. The money conversation we talked about before. The. The. The ex in the marriage situation. Like, these are things that they just. Every time you say, I want to give Papus a baby, people are. They remind you of, like, what was in the past. Like, how does that.
Angela Yee
They say, oh, he's still married. That's the first thing they always, well,
Claressa Shields
oh, he Filed for divorce too. They forget that part all the time. But it's okay, honestly, we know the truth. I know the truth. Pap knows the truth. We know that that's not what it is. And sadly, any man that I've been with, they have said that he's with, with me for my money because they just think that I'm just not that bad of a period. I'm not that bad. Champ ain't snack. Thick.
Charlamagne Tha God
That thick ass turkey lady.
Claressa Shields
You did wink at me. So they be like, yeah, they only with her because she got money. It's like, no, baby, this, this, this cat got low mouth.
DJ Envy
Talk that talk.
Claressa Shields
This ass is fat, period. Waist is snatched. And baby, I'm in shape. So you know when them girls that be in shape, what they do in that room, period.
Charlamagne Tha God
Do that girl three different sketches today.
Angela Yee
I just want you to do that. She going to turn that into another
Claressa Shields
sketch and she better stand up and have some ass on her too. Cuz if you stand up and ain't you better put some butt pads in there.
Lauren LaRosa
Do you, do you feel like that like, like the, the marriage conversation, divorce conversation? Do you feel like that's one of them things that when everything is finalized, people will finally leave you alone about or that's going to, they still going to bother you about that?
Claressa Shields
What did Charlamagne just say? He said Internet going to Internet. So. Fact, I, I, I've heard so many different things about that. It's just like at the end of the day, I try to keep myself out of it because yeah, that don't have nothing to do with me. That's what they have to figure out. It don't have nothing to do with me. Me and him are together and I'm not going to change my plan that I have for my life for nobody at the end of the day. So he did what he's supposed to do on my end. He filed and is going through and whatever the case may be. But what I'm supposed to be mad about, like I'm supposed to, oh, it's nothing that he can do to make it be faster. It's nothing. So that's just what. But for, for my plans, I'm 31. I'm, I'm like an auntie now. So.
Charlamagne Tha God
No, not really.
Claressa Shields
31 years. 31's an auntie.
Lauren LaRosa
I'm 34. We're 30 older than you.
Angela Yee
That's why.
Claressa Shields
So yeah, y' all not aunties.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, I am closer to 35 though.
Angela Yee
She got a bald spot.
Claressa Shields
That's crazy.
Charlamagne Tha God
But she felt she almost died when she was little, so. Yeah, but you're 31.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, just turn 31.
Lauren LaRosa
But you're saying for like, on the timeline of your life, right? Like, you know you want to be married, you know you want to have a baby. So he's doing what you need him to do, that y' all are going to get to that point.
Claressa Shields
Yes. And. And that's what it's really about. Like, nobody can tell me that Pap doesn't love me. Like, that is not something like, that man is in love. He's in love. Like, deeply in love. And I'd be like, I got two more fights, so. Hey, chill out. Calm down.
Angela Yee
I'll be honest with you. I don't think Pap got a choice at this point. I don't. We would crucify Pap if he did you dirty. I don't really think.
Claressa Shields
No, for real.
Angela Yee
Like, he ain't got no choice.
Claressa Shields
Like, well, Pap is not. He doesn't have a character of doing anybody dirty.
Angela Yee
No, no, no.
Claressa Shields
It's just not who he is. And honestly, like, I'm not like a horoscope person, but a Pisces with like a Pisces. It's just a lot of. A lot of love going around and he's like, so respectful. I love. I love that he know how to fight. Cuz with us if you want to. We not the couple you want to run into on the alley and you want to with us. You know what I'm saying?
Angela Yee
I love that. Speaking of the love y' all get, when people like Rihanna shot you out
Claressa Shields
on social media and Megan thee Stallion.
Angela Yee
Megan thee Stallion put you in a song. Do you reach out to them? Do you. Have they reached out to you just to say what's up?
Claressa Shields
Everybody is so hard to reach.
Angela Yee
But even if it's just a dm,
Claressa Shields
but getting a stamp from Rihanna was like. Yeah, because it was a. Come on. Can we be honest?
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
It's a paid hate train. All the hate that I get is not normal. It's paid. There are paying campaigns.
Angela Yee
I agree with that.
Claressa Shields
We're going to say this this week. We're going to say that like, how am I viral from what I. From when I said I could beat Rollie in a fight, How I'm borrowed from that. And that shit was five months ago. How borrow from that? We not viral for the eighteen thousand sellout, the three million dollar gate.
Angela Yee
No, that's good stuff. Don't go viral for good stuff.
DJ Envy
Yeah, we should you should.
Claressa Shields
But that's what African Americans need to change in our culture.
Angela Yee
No, we can. Ain't African Americans niggas. That's behavior is a difference.
Claressa Shields
But when. When does that stop? When do you call them out on that? You know what I'm saying? Like, when do it be like, y' all ain't gotta like everything that's going on, but when it come to us supporting us, we should do better.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
Like, y' all two had, y' all think, remember this? I DM'd you, right?
DJ Envy
Oh, you pick a side.
Claressa Shields
Oh, wow. Well, but this. No, but I just looked at it
Angela Yee
and I was like, remember, that's 50 friends.
Claressa Shields
At the end of the day, y' all can coexist.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
You know what I'm saying? And I told her to keep doing what she was doing and that you will come around and look at y' all now.
Charlamagne Tha God
But you ain't tell me you ain't jumping.
Claressa Shields
Well, you a little.
Angela Yee
You.
Claressa Shields
You a little Hollywood. You know what I'm saying?
DJ Envy
Wow.
Claressa Shields
Cause you just the mess. And Justin told me I look a mess times. I was like, I'm rocking with Lauren on this one. When I tell you that, lie again. Up, lie again. Pointy hill. She like, yeah, she got on them lemon pepper steppers.
DJ Envy
Wow.
Claressa Shields
She did.
DJ Envy
I remember you said that.
Claressa Shields
You don't even remember.
Charlamagne Tha God
She don't remember that.
Claressa Shields
No, no. But no, I'm not going to lie. Sometime when y' all be sitting, I'm like, man, I shouldn't have wore them down. That was bad, though. But here you go having a stylist, though. When they put you on stuff, you just wear it. So when she put me in my lemon pepper step.
Lauren LaRosa
I've had some moments. It's okay.
Claressa Shields
I would just.
Charlamagne Tha God
Like I was one time.
Claressa Shields
That's just what we have to. To do. Like, we have to support each other in a better way. And yes, hate has made me more famous, but it hasn't lead. Like, some of it leads to a couple dollars on Snapchat. Like, I'm making like 500 a day on Snapchat because they want to see what I'm doing every day. Whatever. Whatever. But it's like, we still need to. Like, I am America's golden girl. I'm not. I don't like being in all this beef and all this drama and stuff. I would prefer not. I'm trying to get million dollar endorsements, million dollar sponsorships, paint myself to be in a perfect image, like Serena Williams and Venus. All this stuff that goes on that's who.
Angela Yee
That's your family. They look like y'. All look like y' all could be sisters.
Lauren LaRosa
Yeah.
Angela Yee
Serena, Venus.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. Yeah, I agree.
Lauren LaRosa
As patient as you are. Right. Because I've reached out to you several times on things you wanted to talk about. Didn't want to talk about. How does that media coverage get you closer or further away from that image of, like, you know, the brand deals and endorsements, like, all of the negative conversations and the back and forth with the relationship stuff, like, how does that hurt you or help you?
Claressa Shields
Well, I don't. I think that one who asked a good question. Here she go. Being a journalist, I would say that the more positive I am, the closer I get to that. Right. And it's not about the questions or the situation. It's about my response. And I think that my response has been wrong to some things. And I think that with that, I have to continue to do better, keep. Keep on trying, and just try to. And keep trying to elevate mentally and spiritually to where it gets to. I'm on the Beyonce level when it, like, comes to stuff like that. Like, if it's. I want to get to a point to where if it's. If it's negative, I don't even talk about it. Yeah. I'm not even, like, you can ask a question. I'm like, I'm not talking about that, but I feel like talking with y'. All. Like, I done been here so many times. I'm cool with y'.
Charlamagne Tha God
All.
Claressa Shields
You know, we can talk about stuff. I'm. I'm actually more relaxed in this interview than I being other ones. I feel like I'm being kind of crucified. Like, I told you not to ask no more questions, Lauren. But I just feel like it's about the response and about how you carry yourself. And I feel like I've carried myself very well. And, you know, I'll never get credit for not going to jail and not having a DUI and not having domestic violence charge. Like, we got people that got this stuff, pds. I don't got none of them. None of that. But for some reason, we gotta talk about how my relationship with Pappy is. We gotta talk about the beef I get into online, that they start with me. I just finish it. We got to talk about this stuff. But it's like, it's about how you respond. So I'm trying to respond different, and I'll get closer to that. But I know that I'm on my way to getting, like, the big Endorsement deals, the big sponsorships, the Dancing on the Stars. I know I'm getting close to that. I just have to keep making the right choices. And, and I look at Serena Williams story, she didn't just become an icon right away. You know what I'm saying? It was like it took years of her being dominant. Kind of like it is with me. It took years and years and years. And then boom, she broke off into the Internet and, well, she broke off into like the endorsements and sponsorships, and then she just continued to go from there. But I think once it hit, it's
Lauren LaRosa
just going to be hit.
Angela Yee
Do you have mentors that you talk to to help you get to that next level?
Claressa Shields
I talk to my pastor often. I talk to, to my mentors. A lot of the women, women around me are older women, so they all be giving me good advice all the time. It's just about if I'm, if I'm taking it.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
You know, and sometime I'm like, I'm a, I'm a fighter at heart. So when people come bothering me and they come messing with me, I'm just like, I'm going to find that one. I want to say something. That one, you know?
Charlamagne Tha God
Do you regret the, the whole Leila Ali exchange?
Claressa Shields
Never. Okay. Nope. She deserved everything that she got. Whatever I said, I stand on it. She proved me. She proved me right. She's a hater. She's a witch. She proved me right.
Charlamagne Tha God
How do you think she proved you right?
Claressa Shields
Because I always knew that she was a hater. I always knew that she's behind the scenes telling people, oh, yeah, she's this, she's that. Been through that. It just all came to fruition when she, when it came out her mouth and she want to say, oh, I didn't, I didn't mean nothing by this or that yesterday. And that's. And that's okay. But I don't, I don't take nothing back. She turned down 15 M's, so now I'm about to be fighting everybody else and I'm about to make over 15 years. We got Shadisha, we got Michaela Mayer, we got Lauren Price. You guys need to look her up. Lauren Price, where she from? She from the UK Olympic gold medalist from 2020. Right. She fights at 147. Says she'll come up to 160 and get this smoke.
DJ Envy
Really?
Claressa Shields
Yeah. So I think two time Olympic gold medalist versus one time Olympic gold medalist would be hell of a fight.
DJ Envy
I think so, Yeah.
Claressa Shields
I would love to fight against her, it'd be a good one.
Angela Yee
The one. The one thing Layla Ali said that I completely disagreed with is when she came at your character, when she said, you know what my father would say? She's a generic wannabe. My father would not want to share his name or image with her. She does not represent anything about him in the ring or outside the ring. Now, many of us, including myself, had high hopes for her. I supported her, I sent her off in the right direction, but she came. She became a disappointment. She is a horrible representation of both the sport and our culture. I thought that was just completely off about who you are.
Claressa Shields
Witch. That's all I can say about that. She's a witch. And the reason is because character. Come on now, let's be real. A representation of boxing. I have the most accolades, I sell the most tickets.
Angela Yee
And as you said, you. You don't get no trouble. You know what I'm saying?
Claressa Shields
I'm the most loved.
Angela Yee
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
Like, when it comes to female boxing, I am the most loved and most respected. It's me and Katie. Everybody else come below that. But with that, I would never. I would never say that. I'm pointing to paper. I would never say that about an up and coming young lady who was in her prime. I would never do that. When it, like, come to being, like a role model and being like a real woman, regardless, I challenge you to a fight. You can say I got more knockoffs than you, because she do. You can say, you can say so many things about your accolades. Muhammad Ali's my father. I got his blood in my DNA. You can say all that. But to go there, see, nobody want to recognize the play. This is African Americans again. She tried to pay me out to be so bad because she knew everybody would listen. It's already a hate train. And she wants to stop my progress because she see where I'm going, she know where I'm going. She wants to get in the way. She want corporate partners and everybody be like, let us think about that. That's what. That. That's what she called herself doing, right? Oh, oh, oh. There with the dress. And it just. It was just goofy. But, like, that's not what a woman who's supposed to be a role model for the sport does. And it just. It just mad, mad witches linking up. That's it. Because she. So now she want to show support to these different girl fighters, but she never did that before. She's doing that because it's despite me. But people see that when she like, oh, this is how an athlete looks. And I. And I came in 1174 with a damn six pack. Don't ever play with me, old lady, please.
Angela Yee
Damn.
Lauren LaRosa
And you got the 8 million, so I know it didn't mess up anything on the business side on the back end.
Claressa Shields
Come on now. 8 million been made already. What, what we talk about, we about to make. It was 8. 8 million minimum. That's why I wear my wind chain. Because we're winning. We're winning.
Angela Yee
What's something you're still healing from, Clarissa that people would never guess? Just watching you fight, watching you and watching your life.
Claressa Shields
Oh, man, are we in therapy session now? Can I. Can I go throw my feet up over there? I will say that I'm still, like, healing from the trust of people, you know what I'm saying? What happened to me when I was five and when I was attacked and when I was the R word by my mom's boyfriend at the time, it was like, the guy was really nice to me, right? And then all of a sudden, he started attacking me and started hurting me. And so for me, when it comes to people, male or female, if me and you cool, and then all of a sudden you get to acting way different. That like. Like that scares me. And it makes me be like, oh, I gotta get away from this person asap. And. And it may be you were just having a bad day, but I'm saying that for me. Yeah, it's like, oh, you about to go. You about to go ape. Like, for some reason, I ain't never done nothing to you, but here you go, about to treat me different, acting different, screaming at me, yelling at me. And for me, that is. That is one of my triggers. Just trusting people and like, the whole switching up. And then I'm not. When you say healing, I mean, I'm healing from a lot of things, you know what I'm saying? But, but, but I would say that God has been very good. He's blessed me. And my mental is good, my spiritual is good, my health is good, and I'm just happy to be where I am in life. I think that's a very. I think I'm in a very good place. That's what I say.
Angela Yee
So how'd you learn to trust love again?
Claressa Shields
Hell, you just have to kind of go through it, you know what I'm saying? And like I said, I've. I've learned. I've been in four relationships. I've been engaged, right? But I've learned that, listen, treat me this way or Else I can't stay talk. And, and it's for family too. Family right now hate me right now. And that's good for them. I can't stand their ass either. I'm just being honest.
DJ Envy
I've been seeing your family members online and I just, I think anytime I see that with family members, I just think that's corny. And I'm sure it's probably because they asked for something and you said no.
Charlamagne Tha God
Finally.
DJ Envy
That's usually where it comes from.
Claressa Shields
But what about all the times a person said yes? Yeah, they always forget this. Listen, I've said yes over a hundred thousand times. I've said yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Got you, got you, got you. But these be the same people that talk about you in a group chat with the other family members who go live and lie on you like, like. And this is my thing. I got this one cousin I know, her stalking ass gonna be watching this. Good. Good for you. She been doing. She been stalking and been talking trash and been lying on me doing interviews with.
DJ Envy
We don't need to say no names.
Claressa Shields
The lady who Cardi B is suing, she been doing interviews with her, just lying. I haven't seen her in 10 years. Like, how we sitting here? I haven't seen her.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
And it's just like, what the hell? But she keeps saying, I don't want nothing from her. I don't want her money, I don't want this. But when she speak about me, it's like, it's like she's talked to me, she knows me, we're close. And it was like, so if you
Charlamagne Tha God
don't want money, you don't want that. Like, what are you doing it for? You know, they always say that.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, I wish. She can. She should answer that. She gonna troll you. She'll make a fake page about you next. But no, like, really, what do you want? And it'd be, some people just. People just want what you had. That they don't want you happy. They don't want you to have money. They don't want you with no car. They don't want you with no man. They don't want you with no clothes. They don't want you with nothing. These people just want you. Just how I was when I was poor, going to the gym. Hair and afro, big ass T shirt and some shorts. That's how they want me to go back to, you know.
Angela Yee
You know, Jay Z said something one time. He said, people are never mad at me over something I did to them. They're Mad. They're mad at what I didn't do for them.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, or how you didn't let them treat you. I think a lot of folks is really missing the point of good energy, positive talking, uplifting yourself. Like, they really missing that. They think whenever they having a bad day, it's time to come bother you. People want to be like, oh, I'm failing in life. She the reason. Like, somebody, I ain't gonna take it there. I'm taking there. Okay, Somebody got, got in a car accident, right? And they called me and said, I got in a car accident because you.
Angela Yee
Why?
DJ Envy
Why?
Claressa Shields
Then I said, how? How I get you a car accident? I had all this stuff in the backseat of my car and I couldn't see out the window because you only let me take my stuff to your house. And so it was your fault.
DJ Envy
What?
Angela Yee
God damn.
Claressa Shields
Get off my phone now and, and block my number before I, I, I throw a phone at you. But it just was like they, they blame everything on you. Rap career ain't going right. You my link going right. You ain't got no money. You, you the reason. But when they be like, I got money, I got cars, I got houses, I got the furs and the hair. Who I got that from?
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, they see that you got wind records now. So all your artist cousins going to be like, yo, what's up?
Claressa Shields
I mean, these same cousins who rolled past me when I was walking in the snow and blew the horn and said, what up, cuz? Love you. Kept going.
Charlamagne Tha God
Damn.
Claressa Shields
Same cousin they did. People gotta stop. We gotta stop that. Well, it's just a culture though. I think that it's. I don't talk about black people because I, because, because I love us.
Angela Yee
Like, it's not, it's a difference, Clarissa, between and black people and African Americans. It's these, it's always these.
Charlamagne Tha God
He is very childish, but I mean, he got a point to that, though.
DJ Envy
We look forward to seeing you on your next fight.
Claressa Shields
Yes.
DJ Envy
Kicking some ass.
Claressa Shields
Y' all come. I don't really care if y' all two come.
Angela Yee
Thanks forever.
Lauren LaRosa
And you got the new music out too.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. So listen, stream, first of all, Pap is like really mad about this, but my rap name is Russell the Globe Pap told myself I changed the Clarissa Shields.
Angela Yee
Why is it Russell,
Lauren LaRosa
he said she changed Clarissa Shields.
Claressa Shields
He like, everybody know you as Clarissa Shields.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah, but it was a brand.
Claressa Shields
I mean, but it's just two different people. I got you like, Clarissa Shields is like the boxer, the champion, the two time Olympic gold medalist. Like, you know, the girl with the fat ass.
Angela Yee
We still think Clarissa Shields the boxer, though.
Claressa Shields
Exactly. But now you got rest of the goat. He, like, take all that out. Just Clarissa Shields. And I'm like, he may have a point.
Angela Yee
I think Pap. Right.
Lauren LaRosa
It's a search.
Claressa Shields
He have a
Lauren LaRosa
Internet. Right. So if I'm searching and I'm not searching rest of the quote. Your music is not even coming up. Like, I.
Claressa Shields
You sound just. Pap said, I only heard your other
Lauren LaRosa
song because you posted a photo and put it on Instagram with the photo the other day. And I was like, oh, yeah.
Angela Yee
Sasha Fierce didn't stand the test of time. I want y' all to know that we didn't.
Claressa Shields
I would Beyonce. Well, I.
Charlamagne Tha God
And what about just Ressa? Like, why it gotta be Ressa the group? Like, you know what I mean? Cause it's not like you raised.
Angela Yee
Why not Club Rissa Shields?
Charlamagne Tha God
I mean, it could be that or just.
Claressa Shields
I mean, I think y'.
State Farm Commercial Voice 2
All.
Claressa Shields
I. I think he's right, but I've just.
DJ Envy
I get what you.
Claressa Shields
Maybe I should change. I just want it to be different. Like, listen, when I come with the furs and the hair and all that, that's rest of the goat. But then when I come with the boxing gloves with the braids, with the blue for the flint water crisis, that's. That's Clarissa.
Lauren LaRosa
So rest of the quote, be at some of the. What is it called? The face offs, because you come with the fur and the hair at that.
Claressa Shields
Right, right.
Lauren LaRosa
Because last time it was the Gucci. It was the fur.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. That's for the fight. Like, the fight week is my fashion week. I don't get to do no get. Do no fashion walks. Nothing like that. You know, maybe they can call me because I'm available, period. You call me.
Charlamagne Tha God
But don't wear them lemon pepper steppers, though.
Claressa Shields
No, I'm not. Because you're not gonna talk on me again.
Charlamagne Tha God
But the lemon pepper steppers, I'm gonna keep them off.
Claressa Shields
Cause you wrong for that.
Charlamagne Tha God
But I'm not
Angela Yee
on the date.
Claressa Shields
The ones you got on the date.
DJ Envy
Jess, we can't help you if she swing on you. I'm just letting you know.
Claressa Shields
I know. Well, hold on. I heard she used to get down back in the day. You still fight me?
Charlamagne Tha God
Just a little, you know, But I ain't never boxed, but I used to.
Claressa Shields
No, I know. I'm just saying she can. You know, she can hold her own a little bit.
Charlamagne Tha God
But you. I like your outfit today. I like the Steppers. You've been stepping out in.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, you know what? Listen, you get older and you see what your look is. You see what your color hair is like. I'm going to go short like y'.
Angela Yee
All.
Claressa Shields
I'm going to do, like, a little fire, some little finger waves.
Lauren LaRosa
When you trying stuff in front of the world, though, ain't it a little crazy sometimes, cuz you got to fill it out for yourself.
DJ Envy
You should have seen the first thing that she did when she first came in here, that first date.
Lauren LaRosa
First of all, it look kind of crazy.
Angela Yee
Retired it. We. We had to retire it, Clarissa.
Lauren LaRosa
That was not my wig. That's char.
Angela Yee
That is a lie.
Claressa Shields
We had to retire.
Angela Yee
We had to retire it, Clarissa. She had to retire.
DJ Envy
It was crazy.
Claressa Shields
It's kind of cute, though. It ain't bad.
Lauren LaRosa
That's Charlemagne's wig. It don't even got no part.
Claressa Shields
No, it don't. It don't.
DJ Envy
All right.
Claressa Shields
It's even, like, white person, too. Like, that's white.
Lauren LaRosa
We. I got it for him because he kept talking about mine.
Claressa Shields
All right, all right.
Angela Yee
But Rihanna ain't call you to do the. The lingerie line yet. No, that's not fenty, is it?
Charlamagne Tha God
Oh, savage beauty.
Angela Yee
I'm savage beauty. Yeah, but that would make so much sense.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, I mean, Rihanna call me, girl. Just DM me. You ain't even got call, baby. Just DM me, girl. Whatever you. And. But I did invite her and her and her man to the fight.
Angela Yee
Okay.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, I did, but they'd be so busy and wait, she just. Yeah, that girl tried to get my girl lock her ass up. Lock her up and throw away the key.
Charlamagne Tha God
We need you to knock her ass out. That's. That's what we needed.
Angela Yee
Somebody told me you might be at the Black Effect Podcast festival, too.
Claressa Shields
Yes.
Angela Yee
Oh, okay. Never mind. Yeah, I heard that's what being worked on.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. So I'm trying to. Like, first of all, people need to know it takes seven incomes to be a millionaire. Now to be a multi millionaire, you have to do more. So I want to get into the podcasting. I want to get into the modeling, the cameos. I want to do more cameos and stuff in movies.
Lauren LaRosa
I heard beauty brand, too.
Claressa Shields
Yeah, a beauty brand. I mean, first of all, I'm very naturally pretty as you are, you know, but the makeup enhance all of our looks. And so with that, I want to show how it enhanced mine, even though I'm a fighter. And just from that, like, I want to get into, like, more stuff. So the podcast and stuff, I Think I will be here, but I won't just be here doing the interviews with everybody. I think that they want me to. I just think I'm. I'm just too real for tv. I don't think I should do it. Like, the whole podcasting thing, I'm too real for tv.
Angela Yee
It would have to be about something specific, you know what I mean? Like how, Like, I don't know if it would be boxing.
Charlamagne Tha God
I don't know.
Angela Yee
I just think it would have to be something specific.
Charlamagne Tha God
Like, they listen to it anyway. And you for free. Like, you know, when you go live, I see you on reality tv. Your own show, though. I see a lot of things. Oh, that you already given us. For real.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. Well, speaking of that we're working on with Zeus is not a reality TV show. I don't know why that girl said that. I don't know why Franchise talking about we set it all up and clips and. And reality TV show. That's a lie. It is a. It's the boxing show with like the girls who wanted the 100K.
Angela Yee
Oh, dope.
Claressa Shields
So, yeah, I've spent time into it. I went and got somebody who got the money. Zeus is a billion dollar company. Let's just keep it real. And they want to get behind my idea. And I said, let's make it. Let's make it happen. So to all the girls that was calling me out for the 100k, y' all can come get smoke,
Charlamagne Tha God
Period.
Claressa Shields
All y' all can come get it. So all the girls who had. Make sure y' all DM me. I had a few girls send me some. Some fighting videos and some stuff like that. I don't know why people. I think it's the clothes and the hair that make them be like, oh, she not that tough. She not that hard. It was like, the outfit is hiding the muscles, the hair and everything is beautifying the muscles that's in my neck, in my face. Like, I really fight.
Charlamagne Tha God
Just watch the fights and you got.
Claressa Shields
You got fights, go watch. But, you know, I think that when you watch the fight and I go back and switch into a wig and makeup, because I did that the night when I fought against Frank John. You know, I went and got the makeup and the hair and I put my little bodysuit on and we went right to the fight. I mean, we went right to the after party. People in the after party, like, this girl really just, yes, I'm here and we partying with Boosie.
Charlamagne Tha God
You'll be sore after, like, doing.
Claressa Shields
I'll Be sorry the next morning. But I was not sore. Fighting franchise. No. Because I was. She was sore.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yeah.
Claressa Shields
And had like a little swollen face and stuff. And I. I hate to be this way. But it just. Like I should have been more cocky after the win. I should have been.
Angela Yee
Now you told her you love her.
Claressa Shields
I think I would respect you. I just thought it was dope.
Angela Yee
You did what you felt like doing.
Claressa Shields
I was just too nice for her to be doing what she doing now.
Angela Yee
You didn't know that.
Lauren LaRosa
He be saying this all the time. You can't control what people do. You can only control what you do and what your intention is. And when I watched that counseling Lauren. He be yelling at me. I don't know. Counseling. That's so good for Charlie. But when I watched that and I saw that part of the fight, I thought it was fire. Because I'm like all those women that are there. That's deeper messaging. It was entertaining. Kelly Price. Boosie you the fight. But then like the message behind it and. And kind of getting to know you. I'm like. That's her spirit for real. So.
Claressa Shields
Yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
I thought that it was great that you did that. You can't control what comes after that though.
Claressa Shields
Yeah. I just. That's. But I thought it would go back to we back. We don't have to be back best friends or be back cool as we was. But we should still go back to wherever. It's like it's a sisterhood. Yeah. You know. But I just like these girls be fake, man. I just can't deal with it no more.
Lauren LaRosa
You are coming to the festival. Claire. Sis. It's the Charlemagne Festival.
Angela Yee
Yeah. I just got the text.
Claressa Shields

Charlamagne Tha God

Angela Yee
She got one. I think I was about to say she got one more time. But I think she already used that.
DJ Envy
Already.
Claressa Shields
She used it already. But one thing she was right about. I shouldn't award him. I keep looking at those pictures. I said I shouldn't award you. I don't even think like just the way I was standing them. Everything was just wrong.
Charlamagne Tha God
But it's all right. That's the only time that I had. You know what I'm saying? That was the only time. Every other time. Damn.
Claressa Shields
Surely fired tried on outfits that I've been like. That's not it.
Angela Yee

Episode: "Claressa Shields Talks Boxing Career, Internet Beef, 50 Cent, Papoose, Laila Ali, New Music + More"
Air Date: March 25, 2026
Hosts: DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha God, Lauren LaRosa, Angela Yee
Guest: Claressa Shields
This high-energy episode welcomes boxing superstar Claressa Shields for a candid, no-holds-barred conversation. Shields dives into her celebrated boxing career, notorious internet feuds, relationship dynamics with rapper Papoose, recent clashes with 50 Cent and Laila Ali, her pursuit of new music, and her next big moves. The vibe is part celebration, part therapy session, and full of Shields’ unfiltered personality and humor, touching on the challenges of public life, remaining authentic, and the realities for Black women in sports and media.
“I got more Chanels than Lou now, but God, it was my first Chanel ever.” – Claressa Shields ([03:38])
Transitioning to Music: Claressa opens up about pursuing rap and singing as a new creative outlet ([04:24]-[04:59]).
“It’s a little cheat code… you can say whatever you want to say in your music. So I’m like, I want to rap. I want to talk my stuff a little bit. I want to sing. I want to show my soft side.” – Claressa Shields ([04:31])
Her rap moniker “Ressa the G.O.A.T.” spurs laughs and debate—with Papoose and the crew pushing her to just use “Claressa Shields” for branding ([66:06]-[67:36]).
First Single: Shields is releasing "Faithful" (a love song), and shares positive feedback from Ari Lennox:
“When I sent it to [Ari Lennox] and she gave me okay, I said, oh, I’m dropping this.” ([44:24]-[44:43])
Shields discusses her blockbuster ticket-selling power:
“I’m top three ticket sellers in boxing right now, male or female… The males can’t even sell tickets the way that I sell tickets.” ([07:23]-[08:18])
She reflects on the significance of seeing 18,000 real fans in the arena ([07:24]-[08:22]).
“A lot of times I don’t take that in… it’s like, this is actually really good… women’s boxing is not doing this.”
[09:13]: She weighs how she chooses opponents—not about trash talk, but who’s most competitive.
“Some of that stuff is too far… there’s trash talk and then there’s disrespect when you’re talking about family and breaking jaws.” ([10:51])
Shields recounts waking up New Year’s Day to 50 Cent trolling her online, leading to Pap dropping a diss track ([24:11]-[26:32]).
“So I get online and then 50 is trolling me… First thing I thought to myself was, what the hell I ever did to 50 Cent?” ([24:24])
Clarifies there’s no romantic involvement with 50 Cent or others he’s linked her to ([24:36]-[32:09]), addressing how quickly fake narratives spiral and her efforts to clear them publicly.
Shields admits learning to ignore negativity, but sometimes it gets under her skin ([19:52]-[22:39]):
“Say what you want, just tell the truth … If it’s anything bad about me, everybody believe it. If it’s something good, it’s made up.” ([22:00])
The hosts encourage Shields to focus on the positive and not feed trolls by responding.
On managing public stress:
“Greatness can never feel like a burden. Ever. I’d rather be great than be a failure.” ([22:47])
Shields calls out lack of support from Black audiences, the pressures Black women face, and the tendency for drama to overshadow accomplishments ([50:43]-[53:46]):
“It’s a paid hate train … but we not viral for the 18,000 sellout, the $3 million gate.” ([50:36]-[51:03])
She expresses her desire to inspire and elevate women’s boxing and her frustration with sensationalized negative media:
“Hate has made me more famous, but … I would prefer not [to be] in all this beef and drama.” ([52:43])
Shields is frank about her relationship finances—countering rumors that Papoose is with her for her money ([38:32]-[44:12]):
“Pat pays my mortgage, car insurance … I haven’t paid for a flight or hotel in I don’t know how long.” ([38:32])
On constantly being judged for being a female provider:
“I think it’s hard for people to think that I’m super girly because I box. … At the end of the day, my, my cat worked just like y’all’s. Probably even better.” ([45:52])
Addressing rumors about Papoose’s prior marriage:
“He filed for divorce too. They forget that part all the time. But it’s okay, honestly, we know the truth.” ([46:50])
“I’m still healing from the trust of people…if me and you cool, and then all of a sudden you get to acting way different, that scares me.” ([60:18])
Spirited conversation on divisions in Black culture, the difference between “niggas and African Americans,” and the need for more solidarity and positivity ([51:07]-[51:46], [65:40]-[65:54]).
Shields critiques how negativity is “paid for,” and urges the culture to uplift positive stories.
Shields stands by her criticism of Laila Ali, declaring Ali a “hater” who tried to block her progress ([56:16]-[59:52]).
“She proved me right. She’s a hater. She’s a witch.” ([56:19])
Delivers powerful defense after Ali’s harsh public commentary on her character:
“Character? Come on now, let’s be real. A representation of boxing? I have the most accolades, I sell the most tickets.” ([57:53]-[58:10])
On Ali reportedly ducking a $15 million fight: “She turned down $15M, so now I’m about to be fighting everybody else and I’m about to make over $15M.” ([56:32])
The episode is unfiltered, bold, and at times vulnerable—showcasing Claressa’s humor, toughness, and candid reflections on fame, competition, and being a barrier-breaking Black woman in boxing and entertainment. Shields is adamant about setting the record straight on rumors and determined to broaden her career.
She celebrates her own resilience, openly acknowledges ongoing healing, and emphasizes the need for positive support in Black culture and women’s sports. Shields is “America’s golden girl” and she knows it—never hesitating to talk her talk.
