You talking to him about the hairline, you encouraged him to let it go.
Jake Steinfeld
I'm just gonna let him go.
Charlamagne Tha God
Jake's been selling motivation for decades. He knows what to say to get you going. Okay. How are you and your family, Jake, everybody?
Jake Steinfeld
Great, man. You know, we're rebuilding the house in the. In the Palisades fire. You know, it's been a year. Ready, man, Believe it or not. You know, and, you know, it's one of those things where, you know, we all have experienced loss and. And especially, you know, everybody watches the news and you see a catastrophe happening every minute of every day, and you watch a fire or something happened that's terrible. And. And then, you know, you go, man, that's so bad. Hey, honey, what do you want to get for dinner? Right? You know what I mean? And. But when you're, you know, one of the people that were affected by something, if you went to the Palisades or Altadena today, it still looks like the apocalypse, man. I mean, it's like a place frozen in time. Things are starting to come around. But, you know, it's. It's going to be. It's going to be a long time, but you got to persevere. You know, we talk about this. It's. Everybody deals with loss, and you have two choices. You could roll up in a ball and die, or you persevere, or you get up and you persevere.
Charlamagne Tha God
And.
Jake Steinfeld
And you just say, no matter what you're gonna try to do to knock me down, that's not gonna work.
Charlamagne Tha God
And this is your forever home, right?
Jake Steinfeld
He was there for 30 years, 31 years. All four kids growing up there. You know, you have your daughters and think about all the little handprints and report cards and all those things like that. Forget about the memorabilia and all that, but all the stuff with the kids, it's, it's crazy to see, you know, your home melted to the ground. It's a very surreal look at. But like, we talked about this, you know, a year and a half ago. Something happened to me at that moment. It was like, you know, we're also defined by material things. And when it all goes away, you got to look in the mirror and you got to have that conversation with yourself. What are you really made of? You know, not about the watches of the Ferraris and all that kind of stuff like that. That just literally melted. But who are you? And it was like a born again moment for me, man. It was. I'm a pretty pumped up guy anyway, but there was, like, electricity running through my body and, and, and I felt this sense of lightness and, you know, it's, it hasn't subsided and, and it, and it continues to be there, and there's a sense of clarity and, and, and I don't, I don't save anything anymore, man. You know, if I get something, I just throw it away. I mean, material things I really don't care about. It's. It's amazing. It, it's. It's been a pretty big change, but a good one.
Charlamagne Tha God
And I know that, that, that moment, you know, kind of, kind of inspires you to flirt with running for governor of California.
Jake Steinfeld
Yeah. Well, you, you know, our friend Brian Kilmeade, man, Fox and Friends. You know, one of those moments that, where day two after the house burned, you know, the police and the National Guard are there, and we, we couldn't get up to see our property, but, you know, we bad actors can get up there, and someone posted a picture of, of my burnt down house. And, and I have two sons who live here, you know, in the city, and I have a daughter who lives in London. And, and they saw the picture online and, you know, news agencies are calling, say, hey, we want to do an interview. I said, I can't. How do you do an interview? We're living in a hotel. I mean, we literally, we, we had no clothes. You know, your wife says to you, honey, I got nothing to wear tonight. I mean, we literally had nothing to wear. We had, we had our shirt and our pants and, you know, the underwear I was wearing. And that was it, because my assumption was, I'm coming back in the morning. And my friend Brian Kilme called from Fox and Friends. I've been doing that show since 99. And he said, hey, would you come on? And I said, you know, Brian, okay, And, and I'll never forget it, they got me at court, quarter to four in the morning. LA time was a quarter to seven here, you know, I'm on at 4:20, which is 7:20 prime time. And got into the little studio, put the IFB in my ear and, and Bryce starts railing on Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass. And I said, look, you know, I don't, I don't know these people. I'm sure they're nice people in person, but unfortunately they're playing checkers and this is chess. I said, I, I came to California, man. I was born in Brooklyn, New York, because there was a dream that was California. And I achieved that dream more than I could ever have dreamed possible. And there's nowhere else on the planet that I could have achieved what I achieved other than being in California. And unfortunately, you know, my house burned down, metaphorically, California's burning. And then bride goes like this. He says, hey, you should think about running for governor. And I said, you know, I'm not saying no now, now, now. He could have said, you should think about playing for the Knicks. And I would have said I'm not saying no because I still got the jump shot, you know, and I didn't think anything of it. And interview was over. Hey, great. Good to see you, Brian. And I pull the IFB out of my ear and, and I walk past the control room, the four or five guys there, it's early in the morning and, and they're clapping and I go, hey, thanks guys. I've seen these guys for years. And I always leave my phone in the car. And I got in the car and I got about 150 texts saying, Are you serious about running for governor? I go, what's going on? And from that moment I really started to think, because I'm all about change. And, you know, I'm not about red or blue. I'm about the red, white and blue. I'm about bringing people together. I've been putting fitness centers in elementary and middle schools, as you know, for the past 14 years. I stood next to 48 or 50 governors. I served with Arnold Schwarzenegger, you know, in California, Jerry Brown. And, you know, my life is bringing people together. So I traveled up and down the state, met with lots of people, sat with this business roundtable up in Sacramento, met a lot of people. You know, I actually had like, you know, binders of like, I kind of looked like I knew what I was doing here. I. You start looking at policy and, you know, you know, you, you just Read the headlines and hear about things, and everybody's always making a comment. That guy's a. She's an idiot. But when you really start to dig in, there's just so much, so many things, so many challenges. And when I went up to meet with these people, I just said, I'm on a listening tour because I want to listen to what you. You guys are thinking about because you are all the pros, you know, whether it's insurance or education or oil and gas or housing, you name it. There were 24 people in this room. I said, if there was one thing that you could change and you had the power to change, what would it be? And. And, and they each gave a comment, and I said, what's stopping you from doing it? And to a T, every single one of them were talking about, well, the unions and the environmental groups, and it was like, wow. And. And then they had made a mention to me. Boy, Jake, you know, your personality is a lot like Schwarzenegger. You know, man, you're a breath of fresh air if you think about doing this. But, you know, Arnold got his back broken because, you know, the unions broke his back. And. And instead of fighting them, he. He wanted to be their friends. And I thought to myself, well, that's what I would want to do. You know, I'm. I'm not looking to fight with people. Everyone's fighting everywhere. Most people get along. That's the thing that I found. Most of us all get along. There's always. I always talk about, like, the playground when we were growing up. There's always one kid who's picking his nose. There was always one kid who's beating some other guy up, picking on a kid who's weaker than him. That's like, in life, and you're. You say to yourself, how do you really go make change? And that's by bringing people together. And I really found the fact, once you get the ego out of it, right? And I have a wife and four kids, and I just thought, you know, what, for me to go do this now, especially with the climate the way it is. And I built my brand body by Jake Since I'm 19, you know, and it's been. It's been pretty good, you know, and in 72 hours, I could be done, you know, by people making stuff up, saying things, you know, and then I got to stand up and no, I. That's not what I do, you know, and things start to unravel. And I just felt for me, the best thing is to do what I do. And, and what that meant was I love helping people and I like providing hope and I've always done it through fitness and motivation. I was an overweight kid. You know, I had a bad stutter growing up. My dad bought me a set of weights at 13 years old. It changed my life. And you know, not only did the weights build my body, but it built my confidence and self esteem. And I've been blessed. I was the first guy to do personal fitness training and made it an occupation. I trained all these big Hollywood stars and, and learned an amazing lesson that they're no different than us. The only difference is they had a dream and they never took no for an answer.
Charlamagne Tha God
So you're not running for governor?
Jake Steinfeld
Not running for governor.
Lauren LaRosa
So let's talk about the Body by Jake Radio. Right?
Jake Steinfeld
Yeah.
Lauren LaRosa
So what type of. Because I mean you got so much experience, we just heard a lot of it. What is the, like the, what's your niche? Like, what is the content?
Jake Steinfeld
I mean the essence of it is this. My wife and I are living in Century City, California now. So you know, we're like in a city and you know, in la you're in a car pretty much all day long anyway, I'm in a car even longer and I'm driving a lot and I'm looking for something to kind of listen to. I love late 70s, 80s and 90s music and I was looking for something that was kind of quiet or just I can. To cool my brain down, man. You know this, this is Mental Health month, right? You know the most health awareness month, underutilized antidepressant is exercise, right? If you're mad or sad, angry or stressed, just move your body. Because when you move in your body, you know, the endorphins start popping. You stand up a little bit straighter, right? You get that smile back. That's upward spiral of success. And there was nothing on the dial that I found that had just encompassed some motivating tips or things like that. And Ted Turner, who just passed away was my mentor. He was a guy, he put me on TV in 1981. I did the Fitness Break man. This, the, the, the Fitness break on Cable News network which ran four times a day in the States and about 10, 12 times an hour around the world. And it was me with two models on a beach in Malibu and, and I was able to parlay that into videos and television shows. And I had a dream to create a television network and went back to Ted. You remember Headline News, right? The, the, the one hour wheel that they used to do. I used that platform to launch a fitness television network. Cut to all the way back all these years and here we are today. I'm in the car and I'm thinking about this and I said I'm going to launch Body by Jake Radio. I'm going to do it just the

You've been working in the garage with your dad every week, Monday to Sunday, trying to get the old school up and running. Today, after all the hard work, y' all finally finished it. So you have that feeling of accomplishment. You did it. Then your dad throws you the keys and says those three magic words, all yours, son. Yep, that same car belonged to your grandpa. And that your dad helped him fix is yours. Three generations right there keeping the tradition alive. But if you ask dad to really keep the tradition going, you need to get insurance. And you already know you need to get State Farm. Because your agent, well, he gets tradition too. His dad was an agent, his grandpa too. So he gets you. Generation to generation, remember to choose the agents that your family counted on. Like a good neighbor. State Farm is there.
DJ Envy
Yo, what up, y'?
Lauren LaRosa
All?
DJ Envy
It's DJ Envy from the Breakfast Club. Now check this out. The first phone call that ever happened happened over 150 years ago. 150 years. That's before any of this. Before radio, before social media, before all the ways we stay connected. Today. That one call really started everything. And fast forward to now. It's springtime, the weather's breaking, people outside vibes are right again. Thank God. And it got me thinking. Who haven't you talked to in a minute? And you know, through all these years and all these conversations at&t has been there connecting people in meaningful ways. This is more than a story of technological innovation. It's really a story about human connection. Real people, real moments and real relationships. So we celebrate over 150 years of connection. Let this be your reminder. Don't wait. Make that call. Send that text. Pull up on somebody you care about because at the end of the day, those connections, that's what really matters.
Baskin Lather Announcer
Connecting changes everything. At and t Hey y', all, what's up?
Lauren LaRosa
It's Lauren LaRosa. And I used to think that if something worked for everybody else, it should work for me too. So I was just layering products on, trying every routine I saw online and my hair just stayed dry, undefined. And honestly, it was frustrating. It felt like I was doing everything right but getting no results. What I had to unlearn is that hair isn't one size fits all. Once I started focusing on my hair and what I actually needed, everything changed. My hair felt softer, stronger, and I finally started seeing real growth. That's why I love Baskin Lather. Their products are made specifically for textured hair and you can feel the difference. The stimulating scalp and hair bomb keeps my hair hydrated without the heavy greasy feel. And it helps reduce breakage while adding shine. And the hydrating hair mistake. Oh, it's perfect for keeping my curls soft, detangled and refreshed, especially in protective styles. I have thick textured hair that leans very dry. So moisture and strength are everything for me. And I've definitely seen an improvement in both even their before and after results. You can tell it's real growth and healthier hair. And I love the fact that it's a black owned, family operated brand that started from a real need in real care. Explore viral bestsellers and products of healthier hair for all types from Baskin lather. Go to Baskin Lather Co.com and use code Breakfast Club for 20 off. That's 20 off at Bask and Lather Co.com Cold Breakfast Club did it with Fit TV.
Jake Steinfeld
People are so desperate for hope today. Everybody is in. Lots of people are in a bad place. You know, you got that black cloud over your head, you're in a deep, dark ditch. You're not feeling great about yourself. Change is rough and change is tough. But you know, when you get the right motivation and the right inspiration and the right tools, that's when change can happen. So I thought, what if we created a platform where there were these nuggets of mental health tips, wellness tips, longevity tips, nutrition tips, all wrapped in great music 24 hours a day, seven days a week, where I wake you up in the morning and we put you to bed at night. And the overnight kind of programming, if you will, is more relaxation. It's more kind of calming music and things like that. And you know, Charlotte, look, I've been doing your show for a Bunch you've always talked about I heart man, and here I am. And it's. It's amazing to be part of this family. I'm day four into it, man. And the response has been tremendous. And, And I'm sure your audience knows. They all have the iHeartRadio app. It's free. You just search Body by Jake Radio and do a little preset on it and check it out.
Charlamagne Tha God
You know, Jake, you. You've been selling motivation for decades, right? Like, way before people on the Internet, social media made everybody a fake. Life coach, guru, fitness wellness expert. What's the biggest difference between real discipline and. And performative wellness?
Jake Steinfeld
Well, that's, you know, it's a great question. I think it's about being authentic. I really do. You know, I see a lot of this stuff. I think the reason why I did come back in this way is because I. I just get concerned for people. You know, when people are in a weak state and they're not feeling great about themselves, they'll. They'll. They'll. They'll cross the desert trying to find water, right? And because someone told them to. And I get very bothered by that, man. And I take it, and I take it personally. Look, I'm an entrepreneur, so, you know, if you have an opportunity and you have an idea and you want to go kick ass out there, go and do it, but do it right. Do it straight. You know, there's a lot of people out there who need help, who want help. Today, all these GLP1s, right? People are losing weight, which is awesome, man. I used to do shows looking at the camera. I. I did 17 years on home Shopping Network. You know, I look at the camera and I'd say, there's no magic pill, you know, now it's a magic pill. Today, there's a magic pill, right? But what happens is it's moderation. You got to do all of this in moderation. And people are losing weight and they're wanting to start exercising, which is really terrific. But a lot of people take advantage of people like this. A lot of people try to take advantage of people in a weakened state. And that's why I thought with an opportunity and a proposition and a position like I have here with iHeart and Universal Music, with Body by Jake Radio, we do it for free, and we give you these tips, and they're simple. They're life tips, you know, that you can incorporate into your lifestyle that just get you on the road. It's about that first step. It's about you getting up and taking a step, you, you take that step forward, you take two steps forward and then three and four and five. And then you start to say to yourself, if I did that, what else could I do with my day? What else could I do with my life? And that's how it all starts. So it's authentic because you can't buy authentic and you can't buy trust. And that's what I've always felt that, you know, I mean, I've been around a long time, so you know, I've seen a lot of people come and go and you just got to be straight.
Charlamagne Tha God
When you, when you think about this magic pill, you know, ozempic area, do you think people still want transformation or they want, they want the shortcuts? You think they really willing to put that work in?
Jake Steinfeld
Unfortunately, I agree with what you say, man. I, I think that most humans look for the shortcut. Everybody want to get paid, but nobody want to work, you know, and it's, it's just, I think it's human nature and there's a lot of people built that way. And look, exercise is boring, man. And exercise is hard. You know, I'm, I'm whacked out of my mind. I'm in the gym at 4:15 in the morning because that's what I do. You know, it's a 42 minute workout and I, and I bang iron around for 42 minutes. That's my drug, that's my medicine. And I do a cardio muscular workout together. I visualize what I have to do during the day so the reps go away. And when I'm done, my head is right and I'm ready to go. But what I try to propose or put out to people is everybody is very different. And what works, you know, for you is not going to work for me.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Jake Steinfeld
And find something that works for you to fit into your lifestyle, to fit into your game plan, not somebody else's program jamming into your life because it'll, it'll never work that way.
Lauren LaRosa
What's the balance between. Because now people want mental health and they also want physical health. Right? What's, is there a real healthy balance between the two that makes a person feel better?
Jake Steinfeld
Yeah, that's a great question. I think when you're, when you're, when you're exercising, you know, when you're feeling. Because exercise, you know, gets those endorphins working and your mental health is your, your, you just feel better when your body is moving, you know, all the joints are working. And as simple as taking a walk, you know, if you're feeling stressed out, it changes your whole mindset. It really does. And I know you guys have millions of listeners, millions of people, millions of fans who watch you, who listen to every word you all say. And I think it's just imperative for this moment because life is about moments. To take this moment and to think that and kind of reload, restart. You know, you went to bed last night maybe not feeling so great. You know, you went to bed last night saying, I got to figure something out. My life is not right, My life is not working right, and I want to make a change. And for some reason. Or you tune into the show every morning now, and here I am. And this could be the moment, you know, because life is about moments.
Charlamagne Tha God
I feel like Body by Jake Radio is more about mental health than physical. It feels like it's more about mental survival than 100%.
Jake Steinfeld
Yeah. This is not an exercise. Listen, if you want to. I want you to be listening to this when you're on a train coming in the morning, if you're in your car, walking a dog, sitting in the house, all these zoomies, you know, who at home by themselves, you know, on zoom calls nine hours a day by themselves, put Body by Jake Radio on. It's, it's great music and the little nuggets are just kind of speckled around, man, you know, four or five times an hour. And it's like, you know, you know, I, I just saw a city old Hall a couple weeks ago.
Charlamagne Tha God
He's my guy.
Jake Steinfeld
He's, he's the greatest. And his book is terrific, by the way, man. And, and, you know, you should do a show. That, that little segment he did. The things that make you go, remember that. That's what I, that's what I took from every one of the nuggets. I just want you to go, huh? Oh, yeah, I could fit this. Oh, hey, I didn't know that, you know, and, and that's just what that is. So if you want to go work out to, to, to this, you can. But if you just want to listen to Body by Jake Radio, that's, That's really what it's all about. But it's going to get your body and your mind moving like you, you were saying, because mental health and physical health are combined, right? Because when you have them both, man, you work in it full, full speed, full, full tilt.
Charlamagne Tha God
So listen, you ha. You now have the Body by Jake Radio app on the iHeartRadio app. It is launched, it's ready to go. It provides motivation at every level of the day. It gives listeners energy to conquer the morning, keeps them going through the afternoon and into the evening. You heard Jake say it's a. It's a diverse mix of music and specialty programming and, you know, just. Jewels to help you get through the day, man.
Jake Steinfeld
I love it. Jewels to help you get through the day.
Charlamagne Tha God
That's right.
Jake Steinfeld
This. And you guys are great. You know, I'm just taking off of what you're doing, man. Charlo, you've done a great job. You continue to do a great job. Thank you, bro. Expanding the empire.
Charlamagne Tha God
Thank you, sir.
Jake Steinfeld
What's next?
Charlamagne Tha God
Movies, but. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Jake Steinfeld
Producing or producing, of course. Yeah, yeah.
Charlamagne Tha God
You've introduced me to a couple of great people.
Jake Steinfeld
Well, yeah, we got. Well, that's. That. That's exciting, man. I think that that's. That's really amazing. You know, I walked the halls here at I Heart now, you know, these last few days, and if. If I had $2 for every time someone mentioned Charlemagne's name, it's like, well, you know, Charlemagne. Well, you know, when Charlemagne does it. Well, that's. The format is Charlemagne like, man, what
Charlamagne Tha God
are they good to me up here?
Jake Steinfeld
Well, you know what, It's. It's really unbelievable, man. You know, they said it. You know, Bob Pittman said it, John Zellner said it. You know, Joe said the same thing. He wants you to become part of this family. A lot of things open up. And it's true. I see it early, and I've been doing, like I said, what I've been doing for a long time, dealt with a lot of corporations, and it's. I've never felt this kind of warmth. But to see what you guys have done with the publishing and. And just how you've really intertwined your brand, because that's really what. What. What works. What. What do you think the key is? And for you. And for. For you and your brand to become as successful as you become?
Charlamagne Tha God
Well, if you just talking straight media, keeping the main thing. The main thing which is radio, like radio was the foundation that all those other houses are built on. If radio was a true tree, all the other stuff would be free fruit. The books and even the podcasting and, you know, the production companies, all of that is just fruit off the foundation in the tree of radio.
Jake Steinfeld
So. So the foundation is this radio show.
Charlamagne Tha God
Absolutely. 100.
Jake Steinfeld
And everything comes off of that.
Charlamagne Tha God
Absolutely.
Jake Steinfeld
So if you were to recommend to an entrepreneur at home who, Who's. Who's you know, who listens to you guys all the time, you know, saying, man, you know, I got to be the next Charlemagne. What do you. What do you say? I mean. No, no, you're right, because there's already one Charlemagne. Be who you are. Right, but what. What is the recommendation in. In the world we live in today of how this person gets started?
Charlamagne Tha God
Find a purpose. You know what I mean? Like, your purpose. I think nowadays everybody's purpose is, you know, just to make money. Just the evolution of podcasting in general. Like, when you look at, like, what these screaming platforms are doing, like, you know, the partnerships we have with. With Netflix and there's a lot of other screaming platforms that's going to get in that game as well. So just, you know, showing people how to do the odd. The audio part of it, which is the podcasting, but then also expanding to the video side, which is the broadcasting, but also taking those podcast creators and creating other forms of content with them, because, like, those are the new stars. Those are the new people that's. That's moving things. So they're the ones that need to be in those television, Starring in those television vehicles and those movie vehicles and hosting the reality shows and game shows and stuff like that. So.
Jake Steinfeld
But at the essence is have a purpose.
Charlamagne Tha God
