Every day I wake up. Wake your ass up. The Breakfast Club.
DJ Envy
Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Charlemagne, the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. La Rose is here as well. We got some special guests in the building.
Charlamagne tha God
Yes, indeed.
DJ Envy
French Montana and Max B.
Charlamagne tha God
Welcome.
DJ Envy
The first thing Max B said is, why is my picture not on the wall? These are all moments that happen here, Max.
Charlamagne tha God
Yes.
Max B
On the playing from Atlanta, Max.
DJ Envy
Then he said, you got Cardi B up here three times. No, that's Cardi B. Jlo and Angie Martinez.
Max B
They're not the same person. I want my picture up.
Charlamagne tha God
How are you? How are you French? Man? I love to see this, man. You know? I mean, you know, Max did a bid. Everybody knows that French, you always held him down. How did this bond stay the same through all that? Through all that time?
Max B
Communication, I'm saying. Happiness for my bro. Y' all did. Doing this thing kept me. Kept me tapped in on all levels through the whole joint, seeing everything, Videos, the tv, the music. That was it. We just. Was just riding out, waiting. He was just doing brotherly.
DJ Envy
My language.
Max B
No.
French Montana
Are you cursing?
Max B
That's it.
French Montana
Oh, it's on.
Charlamagne tha God
And it's like, french. You always believed Max was coming home.
French Montana
Yeah.
Charlamagne tha God
You always believe that.
DJ Envy
French always said a date that didn't exist. January.
French Montana
It'D be him telling me that.
Max B
I was getting in trouble. I was getting in trouble. The last one he did was like, what, like two years ago, I was supposed to go to halfway house and all that. I didn't screw my little joint up inside. Messed anything up.
French Montana
It kind of worked for him, though. I'd be like, yo, he coming home next month. Everybody start calling me, how much you need for this? How much you need for this? How much you need for this? He rack up all the money, he'll be like, all right, Tell him I'm not coming home this year. Coming home this year again.
DJ Envy
What were you doing so you couldn't get home? Like, what. What was going on?
Max B
Were you on the phone or that, too? But I beat the phone. Joints I got caught with, like, drugs, weed, backhoe, dirty urines.
French Montana
In there?
Max B
Yeah, in there.
French Montana
Jesus Christ.
Max B
Like a convict.
DJ Envy
You ain't say, maybe. Maybe I don't do this so I can go home. Or you was like, nah, I gotta survive.
Max B
I got two years left. I'm like, man, I'm just gonna do this how I do it. I go home in two years anyway, so. And I've been down this long, they can Wait a little longer for me because I came home on my dude birthday. So that was a spirit.
DJ Envy
That was a special moment.
Max B
Hit me with presents all. Every year. Gold plaques, all types of say, yo, you got a Max B. On your birthday, you got to pick a valve.
Charlamagne tha God
How many people didn't do.
DJ Envy
Do the bid with you?
Charlamagne tha God
French is somebody who did. How many people didn't?
Max B
Listen, I ain't gonna say no names. I think that's inappropriate. All right, I'm gonna tell you this. Those who didn't do it, they didn't do it. It's all right. The people that surround me, God got them right where they want, what he wants them to be.
French Montana
Word.
Max B
That's how we gonna do that.
DJ Envy
Now, your sentence was cut by a lot. Drastically cut. Why was it cut so much? Because at one time, we was like, damn, Max being never coming home. But then we seen hopes. It was. There was simmers and glistens of hope.
Max B
Number one. I wasn't supposed to be in there first place. I was in a whole nother state when the crime happened. And I got out because my lawyer was a grease ball. He had nothing to do with my crime. I was found. I copped out 20 years of my crime. I got back on PCR, which is post conviction relief. So my lawyer was ineffective. I got back on that, and thanks to my good defense team I had on the field, that's another story.
Charlamagne tha God
I have no idea what you're talking about right now.
Max B
My defense team on appeal.
DJ Envy
Defense team on appeal.
Angela Yee
When he appealed. When he appealed, his defense team.
Charlamagne tha God
I don't.
French Montana
I'm cool.
Max B
Too smart not to know too many books.
Charlamagne tha God
How did it feel creatively to revisit the Coke Wave series after so many years?
Max B
If it was rejuvenating to be able to work with him again, that was like the. Hey, you know, I wanted to go do my own thing, but just getting in the lab with French was like. It brought back a lot of old energy. It just felt good. I'm saying, my boy on point, he had to get me on point. I get my voice used to the. Back to the mic and back me in the studio. Oh, good. Working, my brother, bro.
Charlamagne tha God
Why didn't you wait to make this the first musical offering? And I French, I noticed you probably wanted that. You're like, yo, you know what? Let this be the first thing you put out.
French Montana
No, he put out.
Charlamagne tha God
Why didn't he. Why didn't you wait to make this the first one?
Max B
I was making both of them at the same time. Got you so whenever I wasn't in the studio with him, I was doing my own thing. I'm always in the studio. You know that. Well, the Fed, My.
French Montana
My.
Max B
My com. My. My committed fans, my culture, they needed. They needed something. They needed a domain. So that was just like, yo, look, this is what I was going through. This was on my mind. Here you go. I'm saying, when I come out with me and, bro, it's like. It's like the Beatles, they. They could go solo, but when they link up, they the Beatles. When we link up, we coke, wave. But at the end of the day, we both go. Go and do our own. Do our own thing.
DJ Envy
Were you surprised by the warm welcoming you got? Cause a lot of people came out in the last couple of years, and everybody always says, I feel like this person should have got the Max B welcoming. I feel like that person should have got the Max B. Like, I feel like everybody's arms opened up for Max B.
Max B
It's love. I'm humble. It's love. Cause, yo, man, look, he wasn't supposed to take me away anyway, but y' all got me back. It's good. I wanted to just get y'. All. I didn't want to wait around. I didn't want to complain. I just wanted to go in the stool, get after it, show y' all what what a real New York G Post look like coming up out the slums.
Guest Female Host
You definitely showed us. We was at the Brandy and Monica concert. You came out, man. You was like. I was like, on these stages.
Charlamagne tha God
Yep.
Guest Female Host
You was ready.
Angela Yee
Have you taken it? Have you taken a second, like, for yourself? Because you've been on GO since we've seen you at the game, at the concerts. Like, have you taken a peaceful moment for Max B again, away from everybody?
Max B
Not yet. Me and wifey about to go on the cruise, though. We about to get that right.
Guest Female Host
Love that.
French Montana
But he been sitting down for 18 years. He took that. He took longer than a minute. He took 18 years. If I was him, I'd be moving just like that, too.
Angela Yee
I would think, though, it's a little bit different out here, though, being able to, like, be with family or just, I guess, just not work.
French Montana
Not with him.
Max B
Listen, man, I can create. I love to create. I love to make money. I love to have a good time, and, you know, that's what I like to do. So I'm always working and just stay consistent.
DJ Envy
I was surprised with the influence, right? Not New York, because we've seen you in New York, and we've Seen the coke, boy. But when I seen a lot of the artists out of town showing so much love, posting, I think some of them even sent you something. And I'm like, damn. I would have never thought. Did you ever think that when you were locked up that all those artists, Rod Wave, Thug and all those others have so much love for you?
Max B
I don't know. I would have never. I would have never guessed it in a million years. I was. I was on the road last, like, my last few road trips. Like, you have, like, people who draw me portraits, all type of stuff. Like, so it was just. It was. It's beautiful, man. I ain't gonna lie. I'm still.
French Montana
It was rappers that drew your portraits.
Max B
Somebody stole one of my portraits. Big one, too. Yeah. Some heaving blood clot.
Guest Female Host
Where was it at? Where they stealing from?
Max B
We was in Rhode Island, Massachusetts. A nice portrait. I'm looking for it. I got a reward for it. Even 500 for that $1,000.
Charlamagne tha God
Where was y' all at last night, man? Both of y' all look like y'.
Max B
All.
Charlamagne tha God
Prince is barely over there with his eyes open.
DJ Envy
Don't drink no more.
Angela Yee
No, I was nothing like no alcohol.
French Montana
Still high and drunk from when I stopped. I'm still trying to sober up. And when I stop.
Charlamagne tha God
How do you like the reception? Like, you know, a lot of people say that they've been bringing you out to shows that you're kind of like a fish out of water. Like, why is Max be on the Brandi Monica joint or even ride wave? Because that might not be your audience. How. How does that felt? Because they be trying to clown you online about that.
Max B
I don't even read it, man. I couldn't even tell. I don't know, man. I just go out there and handle business. Monica with me. These ladies with me. They grew up off my. If you don't know my. Check the receipts, man. I've been around a while, man. I probably. They probably. I probably. Your parents probably made you to one of my sexy love joints. One of my loopies.
Charlamagne tha God
That is interesting. When I think about it, Max, you did kind of do sexy drill before. Sexy drill.
French Montana
Sexy love.
Max B
I'll tell you something. I'm not saying no names, but I met a few of these older people, these artist parents and stuff like that. And listen, they love me, okay? They treat me with respect.
French Montana
But ain't that what you're supposed to do, though? Like, come out. Come out on other people's shows that to gain their fans, like to put people like, you're not Supposed to go out just on. On your own. You could do it on your own. I feel like you're supposed to go on the. On the Brandi and Monica show. If. If you know a Rolling Stone want to bring you out, you go out with them, if you know what I'm saying? Nine Inch Nails want to bring you out. I feel like you always should go out with people. It's not guaranteed the whole crowd gonna fill you or not. That's.
Max B
That's.
French Montana
That's how you get big as an artist, regardless whether you hide or not. I might. I might come out on a cold place set. Nobody might know me. You know what I'm saying?
Max B
Where the hell was we last night?
French Montana
I was thinking about. I was thinking about it.
DJ Envy
The crazy.
Max B
The crazy.
Charlamagne tha God
The Monica tour.
Max B
Crazy thing about the Monica at your album release.
French Montana
Yeah, but we did, like, a gala before that. Then before that, we were crazy, like.
Max B
Orthodox Jews, all type of crazy.
French Montana
I would say.
DJ Envy
Even with the Monica and Brandy tour, they thought you had something to do with the. When Ja Rule got hit, they was like, max B and his crew beat up Ja, and you was like, nah.
Charlamagne tha God
That made no sense to me.
Max B
I was like, I love Ja Rule. What the hell y' all talking about? Yeah, like, ja Rule. My. Like. You know what I'm saying? So no shout out to J.
Charlamagne tha God
That make you want to stay in the house a little longer?
Max B
You know what?
Charlamagne tha God
If I got to come home and this the Y' all putting on me immediately.
French Montana
I remember him coming to the studio from the show. I'm like, what happened? He said, man, they tried to tap into my algorithm.
Max B
Uncle. She said, where was you last night? I'm like, I was at the concert. She was like, did y' all beat up Ja Rule? I said, absolutely not. Wow. I love Ja Rule. No way. No way.
Charlamagne tha God
I see. That'd be the. That the Internet be getting people jammed up and don't even realize they're attaching your name to something like that. But you still on parole. That's crazy.
DJ Envy
Then it was another one where they said he got shot at or he got shot in another club. And I was bad.
French Montana
I see that.
DJ Envy
I think that was like, Rhode Island. I'm like, that didn't happen.
Max B
My club's been peacefully. Yeah, they've been in harmony. Everybody been having a good time like always. I never really was, like, my clubs never was fighting and none of that. And it just been. Yo, it been wild. I really don't remember yesterday. Damn, man.
Charlamagne tha God
We can tell Max in French.
French Montana
I'm Trying to remember.
Charlamagne tha God
But you here with us now. How do you prove to your parole officer that you didn't have nothing to do with it? Even though we know you didn't. But how do you prove to her?
Max B
I just stay consistent with, you know, my whereabouts, my locations, and stuff like that.
French Montana
Just.
Max B
Just be honest with her. She know I ain't without that crazy stuff. Shout out to my PO she cool.
Angela Yee
It sound like y' all have a good relationship.
Max B
She's cool. She's very professional. She's a good PO I like my PO how long you on parole for? As long as they need me to be. Five years. That's all right, man. Cause I'm productive. I ain't complaining. I don't give a. If it was 20 years. I'm out, I'm back, and I'm working.
Guest Female Host
When you came home, you dropped your own project, right? But then you got the collab with French. Now they sound, you know, like two different. Two different, you know, feels. Now, did you have to step outside of your comfort zone to get with something? Cause, you know, he more upbeat, you know, Afrobeats, like, all of that. Did you have to, like, step outside your comfort zone, or was there ever a moment where you was like, nah, I ain't getting jiggy with this.
French Montana
He. He started that sound.
Charlamagne tha God
Yeah.
Guest Female Host
See, look, I'm be honest with you. I wasn't new to you back in the day. I met you at the Brandy and Monica joint.
DJ Envy
I wasn't.
Max B
I just wasn't diet back in the day.
Guest Female Host
I just wasn't. I was just on other side.
Max B
Well, you better go.
DJ Envy
She probably heard you didn't know.
French Montana
But, but, but I. I keep forgetting I'm old.
Charlamagne tha God
Yeah, we old.
Max B
I've always been heard about you growing.
French Montana
Up, Max B. Yeah, you want. You want to know where you from?
Angela Yee
Depending on who listening.
French Montana
You want to know was the first song I did, besides the one when I first first met him. He was like, yo, it was like two. Two weeks after, like, meet me in the studio. I go to the studio. I'm expecting to hear some hip hop, some Dame Grease, some, you know. He pressed play. What was it? Christina Aguilera beat.
Guest Female Host
Oh, wow.
French Montana
Britney Spears.
DJ Envy
Oh, that was the first thing.
Guest Female Host
That's what you wanted.
French Montana
What was the name of the song?
Max B
Give me slow. That one.
French Montana
Money, Money, Yeah. Oh, Disturbia, Disturbia, Disturbia.
Guest Female Host
Oh, that was Rihanna.
DJ Envy
That's Rihanna?
French Montana
Yeah.
Guest Female Host
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
Charlamagne tha God
Britney Spears, for real.
Angela Yee
They didn't know where they were last night.
Charlamagne tha God
Oh, that's true.
DJ Envy
And how did Y' all get so tight. How did y' all get so close?
French Montana
I shot to my brother Kai. He always tell me to. To shout him out. He the one that introduced me to him, and I was doing my thing in the Bronx. He was doing his thing in Harlem. We just. We met in the studio. We had did a. A track. Then after that, we just got tight.
Charlamagne tha God
I never know French without Max. Never known Max without friends.
Max B
Yeah.
Charlamagne tha God
Ever.
Angela Yee
I learned of you one night we.
Max B
Worked together, and we've been rocking out ever since.
French Montana
Yeah.
Max B
He came back the next night, and the next night, I'm like, man, let's go upstate. A man got his oasis. Let's go up there and get back. We start going.
French Montana
Yeah.
Max B
Putting that together.
DJ Envy
I always tell people French is the. The perfect example of, I'm going to every club until I break. Like, every club, every strip club, every radio station. Yeah, it didn't. I've never seen a work ethic like that in a long time. Then he shot his own videos, and I'm like, just gonna take one record. And when he caught that record, it was gone.
Guest Female Host
Always fire.
DJ Envy
How did you feel when you were locked up and you seen the success? Because you were, like, at the height when you were going in. So how did you. How did that make you feel when you seen all your peers blowing you? Like, damn, that should have been me. That. That. That should have been me.
Max B
Nah, I want to say. I'm not going to say. I never say that. I'll be happy for my dudes. Like, I got a genuine love and happiness for this guy right here. So when I'm. When I'm in jail and I Seeing this guy on the tv, I'm pumping my fist. I'm getting excited. I got my dudes calling me your pickle Val, your boy on your bro on tv. I mean, ah, you say him. Ah. So that's. That's kind of like my. My energy when. When I was seeing them, it was. It was. It was inspirational motivation for me just to keep. Keep going. Let me know, bro, hey, the more he better he got, the more bigger the more I was in. I was like, yeah, so you already know this. The end result. We wound up making it back on the other side, bro. Doing this, I do my. We can still link up, do coke.
French Montana
Wave, and my job is just to make sure my brother coming home, he feel the same way. Like, when he went in, you know, I feel like that's. That's. That's. That's the brotherhood responsibility. I feel like, you know, I remember how he went in. He was on top of his game. When he come home, I make sure he on top of his game. He up on everything and. And he don't sleep. He learned fast.
Angela Yee
What's been the biggest thing that or the number one thing that you felt like, I need to make sure I get him this when he comes home. Business wise.
French Montana
I just think when he came home, he just didn't get no sleep, was running around, he was trying to record at the same time and, you know, just try to do too much, you know what I'm saying? It was affecting his voice. And I'm like, bro, you gotta sit down for a little bit and record. I think, I think. I think that's probably the most important thing. But besides that, everything else he was. It was easy for him.
Angela Yee
Were there things that you were doing when he was locked up? Because you do so much of your own business and you've been so successful at it that you're like kind of setting up this infrastructure so that when he comes home, he walks back into it because things have changed.
French Montana
Yeah, but I kind of been doing that with like every album that I put out. Like every album from. From the moment he went in. If you look at every album, you're always going to see Max beat Mix Sabie, you're going to see Max B. You're going to see this and that. Him and Chinks. Rest in peace, Chinx. You know, I always try to keep trying to keep our brother's legacy going on with us, but yeah, it was. It was just like that. It wasn't nothing too crazy.
Charlamagne tha God
I'm telling you both right now, I want more. Ever since you left me, I want more. I don't know.
DJ Envy
What's the first record on the album?
Guest Female Host
Crazy.
Charlamagne tha God
I like them type of record. I'm too old for the cooking coke, cat watching bodies, you know what I'm saying?
Max B
I like, huh? Ain't no bodies on there.
Charlamagne tha God
So we talking about bodies dropping.
Max B
That's all. Game on. Ain't nobody dropping. Better listen to that tape.
French Montana
Million dollars, man. You don't want to hear about no bodies or nothing, man.
Charlamagne tha God
No, I want to hear about. I like. Ever since you left me, I like. I don't know.
Max B
I'm glad y' all got a record because now y' all could just put that joint in the bds, let it get it going, and give us a nice hit record for the big bad.
Angela Yee
So you can get your picture.
Charlamagne tha God
Why we didn't get more of that, though, like that? That tune that energy, like, everything.
French Montana
You want to know the truth?
Charlamagne tha God
I would hope you telling us the truth.
French Montana
He didn't want to do that record.
Charlamagne tha God
Which one? I don't know. Ever since you left me Ever since.
French Montana
You left me See how the whole room turned towards us?
Max B
We're not just saying.
Guest Female Host
But that's why I said. Was you stepping out of your comfort zone.
French Montana
But if you listen to I don't know on the tape, is.
DJ Envy
This is crazy.
Angela Yee
Yeah, that's the one.
Guest Female Host
That's the one.
DJ Envy
Now, you like that?
Max B
I don't know.
Charlamagne tha God
I don't know, right?
French Montana
Yeah.
Max B
Listen, I love that record.
French Montana
But you see, he did. I don't know. But then when I played him this record, he was like. I'm like, yo, bro, you bugging.
Guest Female Host
Why?
Angela Yee
Like, why?
Guest Female Host
Why?
Angela Yee
No shit.
French Montana
I had this record for, like a.
Max B
Year because I don't know how to make hit records. I just make great records.
Charlamagne tha God
That's why you got friends?
French Montana
Yeah.
Charlamagne tha God
I played it for him.
French Montana
I walked in the studio. I walked into the studio. He came home because I had that record for, like, a year. I already knew what that record was. But I'm like, you know, I'm. I'm not gonna put nobody on it. I make sure that this is a gift to my bro. Let me just put it together like that. And he came home. He was like, you want to work? I'm like, yeah, let's go to the studio. We go to the studio. He plays me everything that he got. How did I pull the record up? Well, did I have it in?
Max B
You said, yeah, that shit in, like, a secret lockbox. He was like this. Look, I've been holding this for you. He look around. He like this. He opened that shit like, three times, then pulled out a thumb drive. He was like. He was like, I was saving this for you.
French Montana
Yeah. I pressed play, and he was like, nah, let's do these Grease all these gangsters. I'm like, yo, bro, I'm telling you. I played it again. He was like, oh, you really love that record? I'm like, I'm telling you. Yeah, we had to double back. We double back, like, three times. I had to come back another day for you?
Max B
No, I think it was some in the studio you played. It was like, I'm looking at. I'm like, hold on. That making Wiggle?
Charlamagne tha God
Yes.
Max B
Hold on. I think I need to get on that.
French Montana
I'll be having, like, 30 people in the studio. Everybody be like, yo, what's that disco record, man? Y' all keep playing.
Guest Female Host
Y' all got a Visual to it.
French Montana
Yeah, yeah, I want. I'll show it to y', all, but you know how. You know, man.
Charlamagne tha God
So when y' all did this project, did you approach the sound differently? Like you wanted to give them that classic Coke wave energy, but you still gotta compete with what's kind of going on today, right?
Max B
No, it was a balance. He kind of let me. Let me do the culture records. He kind of stuck to more, more, more. The that's gonna be out the videos. He picked the singles and basically did the whole rollout. Did the logistics like he always do. I handle more like the culture, the audio sound, the beats, like that. But it balance out. I'm saying used to live in Dubai.
DJ Envy
Are you.
Max B
You still live.
DJ Envy
Are you back here?
French Montana
No, I'm here.
Max B
Okay.
French Montana
I never live in Dubai, but I got my golden visa and I could live there, but.
Angela Yee
Long distance from that. That's a heck of a no.
French Montana
She be over here and back over there.
Angela Yee
Oh, yeah, I forgot.
Charlamagne tha God
She's riches prince now or some. Right. N. He's a prince.
French Montana
Honestly, though, it's been dope to see the growth, brother.
Charlamagne tha God
I appreciate.
French Montana
For real, man. It's been dope. See the growth. I seen. I seen where you started and where you at, man. It takes a lot.
Charlamagne tha God
But don't try to defend you being.
Guest Female Host
Congratulations. Congratulations.
Angela Yee
I mean, first of all, we covered the story in here with the ring and engagement. And Envy called you a sniper.
Charlamagne tha God
That was crazy. Crazy, yes.
Angela Yee
He going to say French used to be a sniper.
Charlamagne tha God
How would you do Crazy.
Angela Yee
How did you feel?
Charlamagne tha God
I had to get on him.
French Montana
Once upon a time in my life.
Max B
I was see American Sniper.
Angela Yee
But your man not supposed to go on the radio and tell the world by celebrating your engagement.
Max B
Damn.
French Montana
Envy threw me on the bus like that.
DJ Envy
My bad, bro.
French Montana
I don't. I. I hate you about it.
Angela Yee
You got in trouble for that?
French Montana
Yeah, my brother. All these preposterous words you speak of. That's your show, bro.
DJ Envy
What is this thing you talk about tonight?
Max B
What are you talking about?
DJ Envy
Yeah, sir, I've been moved on and passed. But here's my new record playing by my new record.
Charlamagne tha God
How does it feel to be in love, though, French?
French Montana
I've been in love my whole life.
Charlamagne tha God
Oh, God. Big talk to you, man.
Max B
I'm trying to set the tone.
French Montana
Coke wave. Narco 3.5 is out right now.
Guest Female Host
Speaking of, you're engaged.
DJ Envy
Max be married too, right? You engaged or married?
Guest Female Host
Don't try to snipe the everywhere.
Max B
Attended, right?
Guest Female Host
Who is? Who is? Ever since you left me about who is that?
Max B
About what?
French Montana
Ever. Ever since you left me. It's just. I think I was going through something at the time and I just leveled up. So we just kind of like, you know, cuz I had that record for like a year and a half, two years.
Guest Female Host
Got you.
Max B
We ain't going to tell them that though. It's a fresh record.
DJ Envy
It's a fresh record.
Charlamagne tha God
No matter.
DJ Envy
Don't matter.
French Montana
But still. But that's. I don't mind because when I had Unforgettable, I had it for like a year and a half too. Is. Is when you live with records, you learn that they stand the last of time. You know what I'm saying?
DJ Envy
You met your wife when you were in jail, right? How did you know she was the one?
Max B
Because she was around when it was dark somewhere. Not when she.
French Montana
When she came around, but only when it's dark. You can see the stars, right?
Max B
Anybody was with me in the dark. You deserve to be in the light. Yeah.
Guest Female Host
How did that happen though? Like, was she like a CEO or like what?
Max B
Nah, she wasn't. She was just a tender young thing sending me letters, checking on my what? My well being and my spiritual well being and you know me, I did the rest. I'm hard. I'm hard. I'm a new. I'm a charming guy. So you start playing with letters and like that. That's taboo. Walking up taboo areas with me. She walked up to Taboo Lane. Now she misses Wingate. She was a fan of yours before.
Charlamagne tha God
She wrote you the letter. She was a fan of yours before she wrote you the letter.
Max B
Wasn't a fan.
French Montana
Oh, wow.
Max B
She did a little bit. A little bit of fan, but wasn't like just wrote me a letter just checking on my health, my. My spiritual. Just. How you doing? How's your mental health? You know me at that time I was a little vulnerable. So anyway, Big mama could have wrote me at that time and got. I'm saying. But at that time that was kind of. Her letters like, was like rejuvenation. It brought me back and we just build the bond through. Through correspondence and we just developed. It got better.
Angela Yee
What prompted her checking in on you like you. She just randomly just wanted to.
Max B
Nah, I'm saying, I think her boyfriend, her ex boyfriend used to listen to my music.
Charlamagne tha God
Damn.
Max B
Super sniper. Listen, let me tell you something. I ain't had no choice. I did what I did. I made the best decision of my life. I tell you, I took that.
Charlamagne tha God
What does wavy mean to both of y' all now? Like today versus what it meant when y' all first popular, popularized.
Max B
Oh, wow.
French Montana
You're the waveguard. You gotta talk about it.
Max B
Maybe now it's like we just. I. I feel like we were storing a certain type of excellence, a culture. And I'm saying I'm here for straight restoration mode. I'm on restoration mode. Just want to put that flavor, that sound, that feel back into this like we used to have it. So it may feeling like that. It'd been pretty damn close, I tell you that.
Charlamagne tha God
What about you, French?
French Montana
I feel the same way. Okay. Yeah, I feel the same way. I just feel like, you know, we're in our own lane. We got our own sound, we got our own vibe. I feel like that's. That's a wave. I feel like everybody got their own wave. I feel like that's our way.
DJ Envy
People respect you too, because when other artists were using that, that term, wave, people corrected them immediately. When I seen Wiz Khalifa.
Charlamagne tha God
Correct. I remember.
French Montana
I remember Kanye was trying to drop his album Cold Wave, and he didn't know about Max. I hit him up, and I put him on the phone with Max, and he was like, yo, do the drop for me. And Max did the draft, and he sent it to Kanye. So it was. It was. It was. It was kind of dope to see people not even knowing or I don't know if Yay knew or not. You know what I'm saying? I was just him.
Max B
I was like, yo, bro, I don't think he knew.
French Montana
I don't think he knew, right? No, but somebody that told him knew. Whoever told him the idea knew. But it's normal in the game to get jacked all the time.
Max B
But it was shit like that that people don't see how you. How you put that together. You gave me, like, seven grand for that drop quick, yo, while I'm locked up. So like that, bro, you know, we pulling, putting together, making sure it count. Yeah, man, you're just making sure. Was good.
Guest Female Host
You was gone for 18 years, yo, what was the hardest thing?
Max B
You look good, man. You look good, too.
Guest Female Host
And his face was two different colors.
Max B
All y' all look the same.
DJ Envy
Yo, the Breakfast Club wasn't even on. We went. We.
Charlamagne tha God
No, man. No, it wasn't.
Angela Yee
You were in Williams.
Charlamagne tha God
We only been on 15, so you.
Guest Female Host
Don'T even really know him.
Charlamagne tha God
We was on with Wendy.
Angela Yee
No, he did it.
Max B
I watched Interview. So when y' all first started, who started the breakfast club first?
Charlamagne tha God
2010.
DJ Envy
I heard about what you did at ye show that I just went Viral to yesterday. Listen, you pulled your dick out during an interview.
Angela Yee
Is that real?
French Montana
Hell, it's very real.
Max B
But here's the deal, okay?
Charlamagne tha God
Wait a minute. There was this thing called the MeToo movement when you was awake. I don't know if you should bring this back up. Here's the deal. Your publicist back there, like, no, I'm Old Testament.
Max B
And I got. I got at least one year to be ignorant.
French Montana
How do you deal with.
Max B
I got at least one year to be ignorant. They attacked me walking in that room. They attacked me walking in that room.
Angela Yee
She said that. They were like, you can't keep talking about it unless you're gonna show it. And then.
Max B
Yeah, how you. That exactly how it happened.
Charlamagne tha God
She told the story. She just told it.
Guest Female Host
She's a journalist.
Max B
Oh, well, yeah.
Guest Female Host
Like, you was there.
Max B
And I blew my pants down. She wasn't born because I'm a grower, not a shower. But you showed it. You know what? I show her what I was asking.
Guest Female Host
Oh, my God.
Max B
Remember that Seinfeld episode? She was like. Lane was like. She was like.
French Montana
Oh, man.
Guest Female Host
The hardest thing. Damn. After being away for 18 years, like, when you came home, what's the hardest thing you had to adjust to?
Max B
So my. I've been getting lost in my apartment for, like, two months. I know that's lost. Don't know what? Nothing at. Can't find. Drawers, socks, teas, all type of crazy. Just getting adapted to my own place, you know what I'm saying? Because my wife put everything together before I got there. So just getting acclimated to that, man, it took two months. I just stopped getting lost, like, two days ago. Damn.
Guest Female Host
So adjust to your home. Yeah, you know, walking around it.
Max B
And sometimes I'm trying to get dressed and go out. That might take three hours. I'm trying to get out the house. I'm like, get dressed. Let's go now.
French Montana
Right.
Guest Female Host
Damn.
Max B
Okay. Yo, so just. Just adapting.
French Montana
We got on the train station the other day. We went to the Nick game. We left the studio, we left. We left quad, got in the train station, went to the Nick game. It was, like, one stop.
Max B
I had to see the trade, too. I had to.
French Montana
Yeah.
Max B
I had to smell the train smoke.
Charlamagne tha God
For what?
Max B
Cause I'm a New Yorker.
French Montana
He had me. He had me stand on that machine where you got the iPhone, swing around.
Max B
You.
French Montana
Like, we're doing. Like, I'm. Like, I just came. Like, I'm. I'm an immigrant came from Africa.
Angela Yee
Are people coming up to y' all in the station while y' all there.
French Montana
Like, bugging out, like, yo, what the y' all doing, man? We still in that. Spinning here like this.
Max B
That was dope.
Guest Female Host
Having fun, though.
Angela Yee
Are y' all recording any of these moments?
French Montana
Like, yeah, we gotta. We gotta, like, Like a coke. Smack coming out. Cocaine city of smack.
Angela Yee
Okay.
French Montana
We got, like, a thing coming out of the tape. I think we're gonna drop it, like, Monday.
Charlamagne tha God
Was it hard to adjust back to, like, the. The studio?
Max B
Yeah, yeah. The first day, we still did two songs, but I was like, yo, I gotta come ahead tomorrow. I don't like this. So it took, like, three, four sessions to, like, get acclimated because that's what.
Charlamagne tha God
They was giving you a lot of flack for that. That's why I said on this project. I feel like you. You seem more comfortable and in pocket on this project.
Max B
Well, it's just the way I was working, so I was. The. The times I was. I don't want to make no excuses. The times I was supposed to be resting, I was working. I wasn't relaxing. I wasn't getting my. I'm saying. And my Was sounding a little harsh, and I was sipping a little bit. I'm saying I was.
Guest Female Host
I was hard on your vocal cords.
Max B
Yeah, I was on the vocal cord. But listen, let me tell y' all something. That's a problem. Y' all will never, ever, ever have to address the bigger bad way longer. Because y' all hear that tape. It's clean.
Guest Female Host
Definitely.
Max B
Beat is tough. I sound modern. Dated. We modern. I sound modern.
Charlamagne tha God
Was there anybody telling you, like, yo, don't put this out. Just wait. Not this.
Max B
Not this tape was my joint. No, no, no, no, no, no.
DJ Envy
I would have loved.
Charlamagne tha God
I don't know.
French Montana
I don't know if y'.
Guest Female Host
All.
DJ Envy
Y' all squash your beef. You and Drake still this week, right?
French Montana
No, that's my guy.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Max B
Good.
French Montana
Yeah.
DJ Envy
I would love to hear Drake with you on the record. Y' all three. Y' all two with Drake. My bad.
Charlamagne tha God
Drinking French with the Sniper Gang. Can I have that record, then?
French Montana
Yeah, well, you gotta ask him for that record. Yeah. No, Drake, my guy, let me got him.
DJ Envy
And Drake got a dope record.
French Montana
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe I'll tell Drake. Let's give that to Max because it is a New York record.
Max B
That'd be dope.
Charlamagne tha God
There's a line on the new project, the. The 3.5, where you say, Max, you say, I feel like I can resurrect the set, minus Darrell, minus the rider.
Max B
Yeah, you always starting some stuff. Charlemagne. What does that mean that's how nice I am. That's how much I bring together if I really want to. Or I could make this pure, but we on Go Town. We on positivity time. We could bring it back. Shout out to Railroad. And while I wasn't trying to on, I was just, you know, writing my bars. That's. That's how that was coming out, I'm saying. So I could do that if I really wanted to.
Charlamagne tha God
So that wasn't a shot at them.
Max B
Nah. It was just like, yo, this. I'm in control. Yeah.
French Montana
Shout out the Real and Ride. I think they got an album coming out, too. Yeah.
Max B
So everybody. I mean, where I'm at with it, but, you know, ain't no beef. I'm trying to. I'm trying to smooth. Smooth all that out. You know what I'm saying? I'm on smooth time. Family time.
DJ Envy
Better. When the cities. When there's no beef in the city.
Max B
Of course, there's always good. Ain't nothing out here. I don't see nothing. I see little content yapping back and forth. Nothing crazy.
French Montana
I feel like. I feel that's why the city is not up. Because. Because of that. I think it's been too many years of that.
Angela Yee
Yeah.
French Montana
It's like. And. And that's why the city is not with, like, you can't even name three people that if they. If they come together, they will be an impact. Because it's just like, it's been up for years. Yeah.
Guest Female Host
Yeah. What else you trying to do, Max? You know, you got music, you got. You know, what else you want to do now that you home other than be with your family?
Max B
I want a movie.
Guest Female Host
You want to move.
Max B
I want to read some scripts. I want to go to Hollywood.
Charlamagne tha God
I can see that.
Angela Yee
I can see that.
Guest Female Host
Me too.
Max B
I need Max bigaville in Hollywood. I need me on your big screen.
Guest Female Host
Yeah.
Max B
Need me on cable and Netflix.
Guest Female Host
Most definitely.
Max B
I ain't talking about reality shows. It's basic.
Guest Female Host
Oh, you would kill a reality show, though. You would definitely kill a reality show, though.
Max B
We could do that easy. Yeah, that's a backup. That's when it's that. That's the last one.
Charlamagne tha God
We know a couple people at Netflix. Yeah.
Max B
Max B. Needs his own.
French Montana
Did y' all get a Netflix deal?
Charlamagne tha God
Yeah, we started January 26th.
Max B
Be a movie.
Angela Yee
I love that. You all in his pockets because he all in yours.
Charlamagne tha God
I ain't seen nothing about. First of all, French been getting money for a long time. I've never known French not to get Money.
Angela Yee
Yeah, yeah.
French Montana
We got some memories. We got some memories. I remember I came through. Somebody ain't going to say her name, but as soon as she walked out, he start smelling her seat.
Charlamagne tha God
Why they can lie? I'm not sure if he's lying.
French Montana
I'm lying. I'm flying.
Charlamagne tha God
It was 25 years ago.
Angela Yee
Why can't we know who it is?
Max B
But did you do it?
Charlamagne tha God
I don't remember. I really don't.
Max B
Charlemagne has a dog size studio.
French Montana
You know exactly who I came out. That was his dark side.
Max B
That's the young Charlemagne.
Guest Female Host
Damn, you dirty.
Charlamagne tha God
I'm trying to think. Oh, I do remember who you. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I didn't do that, though.
Angela Yee
Yeah, I didn't do that.
Max B
That was crazy.
Charlamagne tha God
I didn't do that.
Max B
His name was Charlemagne the dog Dance.
Charlamagne tha God
I do remember that, but I didn't turned it around.
French Montana
That's what I'm saying. We got some good. Look, he's sweating.
Charlamagne tha God
Look.
French Montana
We had some good times at the Breakfast Club, man.
Charlamagne tha God
We did. What does legacy look like for you, Max?
Max B
Forever breaking generational curses. Just being around forever with good, good product, you know what I'm saying? And we look back 30 years from now at the fruits of our labor, like, yo, look what we've been through to get here. And, you know, just passing it down to the. To the. To the. To the. To the youth, showing them the way, teaching them not to make the mistakes we made so they could open it up for they. For their kids, you know what I'm saying? So forth. That's kind of like where I'm at with legacy.
Charlamagne tha God
How has taking accountability changed both of y' all trajectories? Because, you know, like, French, you stopped drinking. You know, Max, you just coming home, you trying to make what you went through a teachable moment. So how is it. How has taking accountability, like, change the trajectory of not even just your career, but just as you as many.
French Montana
I already told you, I'm still drunk. I'm still high and drunk. For real. I still feel off with me. It was different. Cause the doctor told me if I drink again, I'm a doc, so it's like I had. Yeah, I had no choice.
Charlamagne tha God
This.
DJ Envy
No, but those are sometimes, though.
Charlamagne tha God
I ain't gonna lie.
DJ Envy
Those are sometimes, bro.
Charlamagne tha God
Hold on. What was that, though? Like, what. What you mean? You drink again, you die. What was it your liver or something?
French Montana
Yeah, like, my liver, like, had holes in my liver and, like. Yeah, it was crazy because I was mixing liquor with pills and.
Guest Female Host
Jesus.
French Montana
Yeah, yeah. And oxys. And all type of.
Angela Yee
You, like, passed out.
French Montana
Yeah, I was in icu. I was. I was in ICU for, like, a couple weeks.
Guest Female Host
Were you running away from something or were you like.
French Montana
No, I was just happening. I was just. I was like, if you. If you don't end up in the hospital, you ain't have a good birthday.
DJ Envy
French was the life of the party. No, French was the life of the party.
French Montana
Everybody. Birthdays would turn into my birthday. Yes.
Guest Female Host
Right.
DJ Envy
He didn't. I didn't been to many a birthday part. It's my birthday. He performing. He called it on stage. We drinking. I don't know how.
French Montana
I'd be like, my birthday is over. I'd be like, no, it's not.
Max B
Yeah.
Guest Female Host
So how do you even remember the night? But how would you remember the night before being on all that stuff?
French Montana
I'll be around. I'd be around. Great company.
Guest Female Host
Yeah.
Max B
Okay.
French Montana
I'll be around. Great company and just. Just having fun. I was. I was always productive.
Guest Female Host
Yeah.
French Montana
I remember when you do it for so long, you might. You might act the wrong way if you're sober. You know what I'm saying?
Guest Female Host
Because I literally never even knew you had. Well, I wasn't able to tell. I just knew.
French Montana
Yeah.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
French Montana
Because I was productive.
Guest Female Host
Yeah. An issue that deep.
French Montana
Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So it wasn't. It wasn't even even an issue. I just overdid it. I remember it was just like. It was like a. A weak stretch. I had this, like, my first show on Saturday. I got paid all this money. I flew to Egypt to perform for, like, one of the kings over there. Then I went to Morocco. My mother brought her there for the first time, like, 25 years. We were shooting a documentary. Then I remember, just when I got back to la, I just collapsed.
Angela Yee
What year was that?
French Montana
Yeah. All this drinking from the. Huh?
Angela Yee
I said, what year was it?
French Montana
2019.
Charlamagne tha God
That happened to me once. I passed out of here. Crazy dehydrated from just being out all the time, drinking.
Max B
Yeah.
DJ Envy
He had a stomach in his mouth.
Charlamagne tha God
He was on.
French Montana
Under the.
DJ Envy
Under the console.
Charlamagne tha God
I had to go to the er. I had to go to the er. I had to get that in me. Dehydrated.
French Montana
All that IVs. Yeah.
Angela Yee
I was supposed to shoot. I was working at TMZ at the time. We was doing a show with Worldstar, and we were supposed to shoot a pilot. You were the guest for the pilot for my show. And we found out you were in the hospital. It was that year.
French Montana
Oh, wow. 2019.
Charlamagne tha God
Yeah.
DJ Envy
What's the last time you spoke to Diddy, have y' all spoke at all?
Charlamagne tha God
That was a nasty segue.
Guest Female Host
Literally.
French Montana
Yeah, N. Let's talk talk about people while they down.
DJ Envy
No, no, no, I'm not joking.
Max B
I spoke to Diddy, but I ain't going to tell y' all about it. We spoke on the cell phone. That's some y' all want to hear. Nope.
French Montana
Wave Narco 3 right now.
Angela Yee
Well, I have another question since we're in awkward question moment.
Max B
Told him use that. Don't get the honey, not the lotion.
French Montana
The mixtape is out right now.
Max B
Fighting for their life. Let's see this music video.
Charlamagne tha God
Oh, man.
Max B
Shout out to my.
Angela Yee
I know you far past removed this, but Jim Jones and you are we gonna see a conversation with y'? All Reconciliation with y'.
Guest Female Host
All.
Max B
Listen, if it happened, it happened, man. I'm over here doing my thing, bro. Doing this thing. We both got algorithms going on. If it happened, if it makes sense, it makes sense. If not, everybody gonna be fine. Anyway, that's how I see it.
Charlamagne tha God
What reckon on this project challenge you the most?
Max B
On this. On this, on this. What'd I say yesterday? Mawa.
French Montana
Yeah. I think the first record we recorded.
Charlamagne tha God
That seemed like it would be easy for y'.
Max B
All. It wasn't.
Charlamagne tha God
Why?
Max B
I don't know. Mawa was weird. Like, we. The bars felt weird. Everything was just. That's that first one, Make America Wave again. Yeah, it was until we had. We had to come back play with it. And I'm saying. And that was like, after we did that, the rest of that Rankin cover.
Guest Female Host
So what was weird about it? Like, did you have to rewrite anything? Did you just feel like you wanted to modernize?
Max B
I like picking all my shit.
Guest Female Host
Yeah.
Max B
You know what I'm saying? But, bro, so I'm so comfortable with him. He like the only motherfucker I ever let. Like, yo, here. Right on that. If he not doing that, nobody's doing it. I'm like, well, egotistical when it comes to writing music and. But it just was. It was a funny record. Just for me. It just. Out of all the records, like, that was the. The one that was probably a little more difficult to write.
Charlamagne tha God
You think people gave you enough time just to come home and be a person first before they wanted you to be Max, be the artist?
Max B
Hell, no. No, I didn't care about that.
French Montana
I think it was him. I think. I think. I think it's the other way around. I think people telling him, you should do this with the family. He was like, no, no, take me to the studio now. Everybody was telling him, why did you want to wait?
Max B
Cause, man, we. We in New York. Man, this is expensive. I got kids. I got a wife. She's my hot wife over there. She like nice things.
Guest Female Host
Yeah.
Max B
I like to work. I like to provide. I like to buy her stuff, like to buy the kids.
DJ Envy
And I'm sure you had years. I'm sure he had years of stuff written down ready to go, too.
Max B
Man, I'm just prepared. I work all the time when I ain't working, when I'm on the toilet taking the. I'm writing music, listening to music, crafting music, thinking about music. Just. Just. Just all the time.
Charlamagne tha God
You don't seem institutionalized as a person.
Guest Female Host
Right?
Charlamagne tha God
Like, that's what's interesting. You did 18, but you don't seem institutionalized.
Angela Yee
Like, you haven't missed a beat, man.
Max B
Listen, let me tell you some. I got some institutionalized ways about me. I still wear my. My slippers in the shower. Hey, now and then I walk.
French Montana
Shut up.
Max B
Do you. That's my wife. Hey, that. Then I walk in with my draws on the shower. Damn. I got some jail habits. Washing my jaws. My wife like, babe, what the you doing? I'm in that. Like, this socks and you know.
Guest Female Host
Crazy.
Max B
Jesus Christ. You ain't in jail no more.
Charlamagne tha God
That is up, though, how they don't give brothers that did them long bids. Like, they should give y' all some. Some like six months of therapy.
Max B
They don't give a. About us. You gotta figure this out in your. On your own.
DJ Envy
Are we glad you home, brother.
Guest Female Host
It's good to see you.
Charlamagne tha God
Hold on. Why'd y' all call this project 3.5 in the narcos thing? Like, why?
French Montana
Not just because we were so lit back in the days that we skipped the whole volume. We went straight from three. We went straight from two to four.
Guest Female Host
Damn.
French Montana
We didn't realize that. We didn't realize we skipped it. Just. We were just drunk. We were just living the rockstar lit.
Charlamagne tha God
Just being lit.
French Montana
Rock star might not make it. Just three to two, to two to four. And I just remember the fans like, where's three? Where's three? So he was just. He just hit me one day like, I got an idea. We're going to call it 3.5. Three for the one we missed and five for the number that come after four. I was like, genius. A genius. I was like a genius.
Guest Female Host
Is.
French Montana
Yeah, yeah.
Guest Female Host
I love it.
Max B
I love it. Jesus Christ. Great mind, Sting alike.
DJ Envy
We appreciate you brothers for joining us Today. The album is out right now.
French Montana
Yeah. What you want to play off the album, man? You know. You know what record we want.
Charlamagne tha God
Yeah, man.
French Montana
That single Envy, man.
DJ Envy
I like that. Ever since you left me. That's my record.
French Montana
That's the one.
DJ Envy
That's the one I like.
Charlamagne tha God
Have you ever. Did you sing Happy Birthday to French.
French Montana
When you came on Play the Record, man?
Max B
I did not say Happy birthday. I think I did. I did. Happy birthday. I had my clothes on, though.
French Montana
Jesus Christ. He said he wanted to hop out of a cake on my birthday. I was like, oh, bro. I say, oh, bro. I was like.
Max B
I was going to jump out with this. Like, you see the confetti, like, but the suspense.
French Montana
All one better not bring that.
Max B
Man.
French Montana
This a whole different generation.
DJ Envy
Let's get to the record. I'm sorry.
Charlamagne tha God
By itself.
DJ Envy
Ever since you left me. Max B. French Montana. We appreciate you brothers for joining us.
French Montana
Let's go.
DJ Envy
French and Max be calling me all the time to play the record. I'm missing your voices, man.
Max B
It's the Breakfast Club. Up.
French Montana
