Lauren LaRosa
Hey y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. And this is the latest with Lauren LaRosa. This is your Daily Sig of all things pop culture, entertainment news and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. Now, I've been all day long just watching this Jay Z interview that dropped with gq. So Jay Z did a sit down exclusive interview with GQ. The written article dropped and then a 35 minute long video interview dropped with GQ. Now y' all know, first of all, Jay Z is not one to just like sit down and do any interviews like at all, period. But he's back outside right now. This interview was actually filmed in January. He sat down with Frasier Tharp in LA for two candid conversations. And these are like some of the first in depth interviews he's done in years. And in the written part of the interview, it said that the two conversations he had were two hours long. So these were very long interviews and they combined them and busted down to a little bit over 35 minutes. Now I was watching this interview, I watched it twice so far and I do plan on watching it again because I just feel like there's so much that you can take from it and just like so many different ways to analyze the conversation. I feel like the way that they're talking through a lot of his lyrics and his music as they're having a Conversation. I wanted my last time. Not my last time. But then I told myself the next time I go back in and listen to this, I want to go back in and actually, like, listen to it, play the song, go back, listen to it again. Like, really, like, it's almost like listening to a new album, watching this interview. Right? But okay, so let's first, let's check in behind the scenes of the grind. If y' all can't tell, I am really excited. Like, I am so super excited. And I think it's because in the last, what, like, two episodes of the podcast. So if you are listening to this episode and you did not listen to last two episodes of the podcast, please go back and listen. You guys will hear me, you know, as I check in behind the scenes of the grind, having a conversation with myself, a very honest one, just about, you know, legacy and longevity and staying power and more than just, like, you know, career and achieving and all of that, like, morning, just, like, all of that, realize, like, impact. And I think my biggest thing is, you know, as I'm navigating in this new space, in this new room, and, you know, I'm new over here in the podcast space, and we're. We're building the latest Lauren LaRosa podcast community and the lowriders. One of the things that I'm always trying to figure out is why. Like, what is my not figure out? But I'm always trying to make sure that I'm delivering on my why and why am I doing something? So, like, you know, I talk about purpose and understanding my purpose and really getting closer to God over these. That's like, two years, and that becoming so clear to me. Purpose becoming clear to me. Alignment. And alignment changes for me, you know, alignment changes depending on, you know, I felt like there's like, one general, like, okay, boom, you're in alignment in life and spirituality and love and, you know, but I think that there are different things that. In different variables that come into your life that move the alignment or try to flow along with the alignment, and when it feels good, they are aligned. So not that alignment changes, but the things that align with you as you are in your alignment moving in your purpose. Some things hit and some things just don't. And I think that all of that is important. And I'm always trying to figure out if what I'm doing every day and what I'm spending my time on is getting me to a place where, like, the audience, the listener, the person impacted is also feeling that way and also moving closer to what they believe their purpose and their mission in their alignment is because of, you know, the vessel of storytelling that I think is like such a, I think it's such a gift of God to be able to storyteller, to move people with words. And because of all of this and because I'm, I'm, you know, able to, you know, talk about these interviews and learn from these people. I don't know Jay Z, but watching this interview, I'm learning from him. I'm like, okay, why is that exciting me? And why is that something I want to share with my audience? And I always want to make sure I'm continuing to ask why if that makes sense to you guys. I hope so. You can't tell. I am really like in such a good space. Just after watching this interview a couple times, I feel like this interview confirmed for me that, you know, I might not have it all together, but I'm on the right track and I hope it does it for you as well. So this is a checking in behind the scenes of the grind as we open the episode. But it's kind of like a, it's like a, it's like a. Not a check in. It's like, let me check you real quick. Like, let me make sure your mind is right because we about to really get into some things. This is definitely a conversation that shook the room. So let's get on into the latest.
Hey, y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. And you know I give you your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment news, and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. And for me to give you all the factual content when I get into the details, I gotta make some phone calls. I'm calling lawyers, attorneys, managers, publicists. Shoot. I'll even call your mama if she's the person that's going to give me the exclusive I need. But did you know that 2026 will mark the 150th anniversary of the first ever phone call. It took place on March 10, 1876. And from the call that sparked it all to the first long distance phone lines, the first line across America, the first line across the Atlantic, the first round the world call, the first commercial cell service, the. The first 911 system at&T has been connecting people for 150 years in so many different ways. I'm just happy that somebody's gonna answer the phone. Cause how else would I bring y' all the news all up in the people business? But they answer. Thank you. ATT Connecting changes everything at&t Hey y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. Okay, let's talk curls for a second. Cause you already know if you have curly or coily hair. Moisture is not optional, it's essential. Dryness is one of the biggest challenges for curly hair and most products they clock out after wash day. The new Ultra Moisture Collection was literally designed with our hair in mind. Curls, coils, all of it powered by Botano oil and Jamaican Black Castor oil. Which means the science is actually doing the work. Clinically proven to help retain moisture for up to five days. Five whole days. The shampoo gently cleanses without stripping. The mask deeply conditions and helps reduce breakage. The leave in adds a lightweight hydration with hyaluronic acid. And the curl cream defines without crunch. No sulfates, no parabens, no silicones, no mineral oils. Just nourishment without the compromise. Because here's the thing. Your hair deserves products that actually understand it. Moisture that starts at the root and keeps going. Well past Sunday, that's the Ultra Moisture Collection from Cantu. Explore their full line built for every curl pattern, every hair routine. Available now at Walmart, Target and Amazon. Go get it.

beside down with GQ. 35 minute interview and they touched on so many different things in this interview. There was so much that I learned. So in the opening of it, right out of the gate, Jay Z gets into what his 2025 was like. And if you're not familiar, 2025 was like the attack on the black billionaire. Okay. Jay Z being one of. Jay Z was accused of sexual assault in 2024 in a civil lawsuit and it was dismissed in February of 2025. The lawsuit also named Diddy in the lawsuit and it alleged that the two of them after like a Video music Awards, MTV Video music Awards, like at an after party that they raped, allegedly, it alleged that they raped a 13 year old girl in 2000. Now from the rip, Jay Z was fighting back and denied all of this, right? And he talks in this interview just about like what 2025, like you know, that whole combination of that year and you know what it was like. Let's take a look.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Really hard. I was like heartbroken. Really? Yeah. I'm glad we got right to that, you know, so we could just get that out the way.
Lauren LaRosa
Okay.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Like I was really heartbroken by like everything that occurred, you know, with all like, you know, we in a space now where it's just like, almost like consequence is not thought about enough. So everything is so instant. You know what I'm saying?

took a lot out of me. I was angry. I haven't been that angry in a long time. Uncontrollable anger. Like, you don't put that on someone. Like, that's a. That's the thing that you better be super sure. It used to be like that. Like, you have to be super sure before you put those kind of things on a person. Let's see a person like me. Like, even when we were doing the worst things, we were doing bad, we had.
Lauren LaRosa
So from this, I learned that, number one, the human in the best of us never dies. Right? Because I don't know, for some reason, it's like you look at Jay Z, you look at Beyonce, and they are able to. And I say not get online and respond. Even though I, you know, before we played this clip, told you guys that Jay Z responded to this. You know, he was. He came out of. He came out of wherever. You know, the Jay Z and Beyonce reign supreme, where they ignore everything and made a very, very clear statement that he was not going to let this just happen to him, that he was going to fight back. And that Tony Busby was, Was the attorney that was representing this girl had basically, she, she. She was messing with the wrong one. And he was going to make an example out of him because these were lies that were damaging not only him, his brand, his business, but also his family. And it's like, you think I always. I have the saying, a lot of times I ask myself, like, what would Beyonce do? And the reason why I bring in what will Beyonce do When talking about Jay Z is because they are like, they do a lot of the same things where they see everything, they know everything, but they don't respond. They don't be a part of a lot of the drama and the BS and all of that stuff, right? And the reason why I wrote down the human and the best of us never dies. And I was listening to this part of the interview because I'm like, no matter how much you don't respond, no matter, you know, how put up and out the way you are, no matter how successful you are, no matter your human nature, to just be hurt, like hearing Jay Z, I mean, first of all, I just feel like hearing, you know, a man admit, yo, I was hurt, is that's instantly. You want to Stop you in your tracks, because men don't normally do that. Men don't love to admit when their feelings go, because you're not black men. But to hear him say that, like, I was so hurt. And then he goes on and he talks about, you know, all of the things that he went through and how he, you know, he. He. Even throughout the fight, it was still like a. It was so heavy, and it was weighing on him. And I think a lot of times, too, when you're looking at these celebrities, I know for myself as a person who reports on people's lives and talks about people's lives, every now and then, I got to check myself, like, how I checked y' all in the beginning of this episode. Like, all right, where your mind at? Y' all ready for this type of conversation? Because you know where I'm at and the energy I'm vibrating on. We about to really get into some things. So sometimes I have to check myself and be like, yo, to you, it's just a story. To you, it's just breaking news, an exclusive, a headline, a video reaction, a segment on the Breakfast Club, a talking point on the latest along the road of the podcast. But to these, this is someone's real life. And to have that power in your hand, to be such a weight in someone's life, you gotta. I. I mentioned the whole asking myself, why, right? You gotta ask yourself, why, like, what is the. What is the greater good in all of this? And even if there is no greater good, why. Why do you care to censor this? And, you know what's so crazy? A lot of times, like, Shaman and be yelling at me about this all the time. Like, you know, the. The stories I choose and how I choose to talk about things. And for the most part, like, you know, I'm able to push back and say, but it's my job. I have to talk about A, to get to B and to C. But when I'm listening to Jay Z talk and I'm. I'm feeling the emotion and the hurt on him, I'm thinking about all the headlines and all the news and all the media and everything that just piled on and piled on and piled on. But he's dealing with this in real life. Like his daughter. He had to sit his. He had to sit Blue Ivy down and explain these things to her. He had to talk to. He talks about it in the interview. He had to talk to his wife about the fact that he wasn't just going to settle this out. He was going to fight it which could have dragged it along and did drag it along for some time until, you know, he prevailed. But still. And you know, he had people that stood by him. But he talks about community.
Hey, y', all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa. Okay, let's talk curls for a second because you already know if you have curly or coily hair. Moisture is not optional, it's essential. And then, I mean, I think, you know, one of the biggest, you know, takeaways from this interview is like, I think the people always talk about like, like being real and what real is and real nigga this and, you know, like all of that, right? And I think what I've been able to experience in my life just because of how I was brought up and how I was raised. Not even just because of my environment, right? Like, people talk about Delaware and it being so small or whatever. I'm from Wilmington, Delaware, and Wilmington, Delaware, it is very like. I mean, it's like any Inner city. You know what I mean? You have your violence, you have your poverty, you have, you know, your middle class. You have the people that are doing well. You have, you know, the positivity of, like, you know, the Boys and Girls clubs, the skating rings, like, but it's community for real. We go through our things, but we go through it together. But one of the things that. Growing up in that environment, but also just in my house, before I even ever walked outside, one of the things that I was always instilled on in me was reality and being a realist. And I think a lot of people that people look at as, like, real, or people that claim they're so real or real about things or, you know, I'm just that vulgar because I'm honest and I'm real. They're not realist. Like, a lot of people are doing those things because they want the shock value that comes with, you know, saying the thing that nobody wants to say. Or they. They want the. The. They. They want. They want the recognition in the room. Like, they want to be the loudest person in the room without having to actually be the loudest person. So they do loud things. Right. And I'm listening to Jay Z talk about just being a realist and. And just dealing with the world for what it is. Like, yo, it's certain things we can't change in the whole capitalist conversation of, like, I'm not running from the fact that I make money and I do well, why should I? This is how the world is. It's meant for you to get out here, get your bread, get out the way. Let's take a listen.
Podcast Guest or Commentator
Yeah, so I wanted you to talk a little bit about this idea of, like. Like you said earlier, like, the things that you do for the culture, the ways that you put on, the ways that you try to protect and move forward, but kind of the pushback that you get sometimes about, like, people throw capitalists at you in a derogatory sense.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Yeah. I think in that verse specifically, the only thing I heard coming up was the American dream until we started being successful. And it was like, wait a minute. You're selling out because you're making money? That was the first thing that was put on musicians. People had this allure for the struggling artists. That's a mind game, what we would call back in the day for trichology. It's like, no, I'm not going for that. Like, no, no. I make art first, and then I make sure that I'm compensated for my art. I didn't take advantage. I didn't. I didn't get here by taking advantage of people. I ain't taking no one, you know, and I just see the world for what it is, not for what I wanted to be. I'm a realist, not. Not an ideal. It's not idealistic. People speak about the world how they want to see it. You're never going to win like that.
Lauren LaRosa
One of the biggest things in closing that I took from this interview, Jay Z was talking about the fact that he did not get on the Clips album. So the clips dropped. Let God sort him out. And it was teased throughout their whole press run that Jay Z, like, like, I mean, not throughout their whole press run. Prior to, like, before the music came out, people thought that Jay Z was going to be on the album. Even when it came to the Breakfast Club, they talked about the fact that, like, the Jay Z verse, you know, didn't happen or like, you know, whatever that conversation was. So Jay Z gets into why he decided not to get on the album.
Podcast Guest or Commentator
Streets really wanted you on that Clips album.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Yeah, I was close. I was close. I think if I, if I think that the first thing that I say, it has to be said from me. You can't be like, I don't want to be so rigid with it, though. I'm. I'm. I'mma keep that open. I'm going to take that back. But at that moment, at that moment, I was like, yeah, I want to do something, but in order for me to move forward, I got to get this shit out.
Lauren LaRosa
When I heard this, I was like, okay, so this right here, so it's like, okay, you got the motivation, you got the. You got the, like, you know, the gems that you could take away. But this right here, this is a part of the playbook that is what it is, you know, mentality. Life is what it's going to be, you know, be realist about things. That was like, that was a setup. That was the confirmation of, like, there's a certain cloth of people he's talking to, and everybody else is going to go over their heads, right? And if it hits you, it hits you. If it don't, it don't. But right here, it's like, here's the call to action for me. Anyway, so what I wrote down when I heard this part of the interview was, stop, Take Time, Digest. And I wrote a question to myself. How do you do that in 20, 26 in the lane that you're in, knowing where you want to go to and what you Want to build because you're disrupting, and no one else is going to have done it before you've gotten there. So it's like figuring all of that out. I think that's what I've been going through these last couple days of, like, all right, like, everything in 2026 is so popcorn. It's so, like, loud. There's so much noise. Oh, my God. When I first left tmz, I felt like it was like. I mean, it's still very clear to me, like, vision and purpose. Like, that's a godsend thing. That's. That's not faulty. But I feel like the market, like, I was able to look out and be like, all right, you know, this person over here doing that. This person over here doing that. And that. I felt like. Like I could see it, but I felt like you guys as the audience could really see it. Like, who. Who really has truth? Who really has fact? Who's just loud? Who do you rely on? Who should you rely on? What is. What is, you know, truth and reporting and these takes and these viral tweets and, you know, like, how do we focus out the BS and noise now? I feel like I don't know how much I believe a regular consumer is different for me because I'm in it and I'm on the side of, like, reporting. And I talked about the media and how this interview made me think about the responsibility of the media, how heavy you can make things for someone, right? Like, what does that look like in the new era of new media? Like, what's that. What's that middle point of being human, understanding human emotion, having them yourself, but also having empathy and compassion and. And. And not wanting to be a part of the noise and actually stopping, digesting, but still breaking through and disrupting. Like, what is that formula? And, like, how do you figure that out? Because Jay Z has figured that out very well. And that is why he's so successful, and that is why everything he does because. Comes off so poised. Because even in this interview, you could tell he's still in his feelings. He's still upset, he is hurt, he is pissed off. But he also is happy and excited about some of the things that he's done. The Super Bowl, Kendrick Lamar, all of these things. But the emotion is still there. But it's so poised, and it's so gathered, and it's very, like, sharp and concise, and it does exactly, and it teaches and it sticks with you. And I know that that comes with time. You know, things like that come with time, you know? But, like, I'm always trying to figure out, like, okay, how do I get to that point, that greatness Now, I'll end on this because a lot of y' all gave Jay Z for including Kendrick Lamar in the super bowl when all the Drake and Kendrick Lamar not like us stuff was happening, and y' all made it. Like, Jay Z picked a side in the battle, and he's addressing that head on. He ain't running from it.

Did a personal thing that you chose Kendrick for the Super Bowl. It's like, oh, man, he's choosing the side and he's putting. And he's not like.

Like, I don't have. What do I have to do with that? I chose the guy that was having a monster year. I think it was the right choice. It wasn't in. In some sort of alliance to a battle. I know. Yeah. What I care about, them two guys battling. Like, what that got to do with me? Or have at it. Have fun. It's almost like, not on just me, by the way. They drag everybody in it. Like, everyone's part of this conspiracy to undermine Drake, I guess. But, like, who the fuck. Like, what? I'm Jay Z. Or do respect him? Oh, dude. Respectfully. Or like, for what? To what end? Yeah, it couldn't be that. These guys just don't like each other.

Y' all ain't gonna hear him, though. The Drake bots is already out there doing exactly what I just told y' all about all the noise, talking all crazy. You know what I mean? I. I mean, business is. Business is strictly financial, but in this, it's. It's numbers. Like, he can't. Like he said he has conversations about the artists that are going to come and perform at the Super Bowl. He's not just picking out of the blue. The numbers are there. The proof is in the pudding. Please go take a listen to this interview. It's also a written interview as well, too. And I'm gonna go back and read the written one as well, because sometimes they leave stuff in the written interview that isn't in the video interview. And I am, if you guys cannot tell, just. I don't know. Like, did this one grab me? So this has been another episode of the latest of Lauren LaRosa. I am your host, Lauren LaRosa. I tell you guys, every episode, y' all could be anywhere with anybody talking about all of these things, but y' all choose to be right here with me, my lowriders. I appreciate y'.

PREP stands for Pre Exposure Prophylaxis, and it means routinely taking prescription medicine before you're exposed to HIV to help reduce your chances of getting it. Prep can be about 99% effective when taken as prescribed. It doesn't protect against other STIs, though, so be sure to use condoms and other healthy sex practices. This episode is a passionate, in-depth breakdown of Jay-Z’s highly anticipated GQ interview—his first major sit-down in years. Host Lauren LaRosa explores Jay-Z’s response to the tumultuous events of 2025, especially the dismissed civil lawsuit accusing him and Diddy, as well as discussions on celebrity responsibility, community, media ethics, and Jay-Z's philosophy of realism and legacy. Lauren uses these topics as jumping-off points for broader reflections on purpose, alignment, and navigating a noisy media landscape.

"That shit took a lot out of me. I was angry. I haven't been that angry in a long time. Uncontrollable anger... Like, that's the thing that you better be super sure [before you accuse someone]."
— Jay-Z via GQ ([14:38]–[15:08])
Lauren’s Reflection:
"No matter how successful you are, your human nature to just be hurt... hearing Jay Z, I mean, first of all, I just feel like hearing, you know, a man admit, yo, I was hurt, is that's instantly — you want to stop you in your tracks..."
— Lauren LaRosa ([15:32])
Notable Quote:
"To you it's just a story... a headline, a breaking news, a segment on The Breakfast Club... but to these [people], this is someone's real life."
— Lauren LaRosa ([15:32]–[16:32])
Notable Quote:
"I make art first, and then I make sure that I'm compensated for my art. I didn't take advantage. I didn't get here by taking advantage of people... I just see the world for what it is, not for what I wanted to be. I'm a realist..."
— Jay-Z via GQ ([26:08]–[26:56])
Notable Quote:
"Streets really wanted you on that Clips album."

Lauren ends by connecting Jay-Z’s candor and resilience to her own journey and the podcast community she’s building. She urges the audience to seek truth, embrace patience, and find a balance between being disruptive and compassionate in today’s noisy world.
