Lauren came in hot.
Host
Hey y', all, what's up Lauren? It's Lauren LaRosa and this is the latest with Lauren LaRosa. This is your daily dig on all things pop culture Entertainment news and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. Now today, getting on right into the latest. So On Tuesday, a 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Russia's eastern peninsula caused huge waves to reach Hawaii. So the island of Hawaii, which is also home to, you know, like, there's, there's several celebrities who live there, Owen Wilson, Jeff Bezos. But outside of celebrity, you have everyday people who are there. And if you've ever, if you've ever been to Hawaii, you know how beautiful it is, you know how much things are surrounded by water and, you know, different encloses. So you can imagine how much damage a massive earthquake, like an 8.8 magnitude earthquake causing a four foot wave did to the island and what that means for the people that are living there. Now, I mentioned some of the celebrities that live there because one celebrity in particular right now is being dragged, and it is Oprah. Oprah is being dragged because there were accusations out there that Oprah closed down a private road near her Hawaii home that I guess could have helped the Hawaiian locals get to higher ground as they were trying to evacuate all of the elements. And the rumor got so big and so loud that a spokesperson for Oprah came out and denied the accusations that she kept the private road that runs through her estate in Maui closed as locals tried to escape following a Hawaii tsunami warning that went out. The spokesperson says as soon as we heard of the tsunami warnings, we contacted local law enforcement in FEMA to ensure the road was open. Any other reports otherwise are false. Now, the spokesperson also went on to say local law enforcement are currently on site helping residents through 50 cars at a time to ensure everyone's safety. The road will remain open as long as necessary. Now, the Maui police also did confirm that Oprah cooperated as well. They wrote in a statement that Oprah's road is open to get up country. The full statement actually talks about, like, other highways that were congested. It talked about roads that were congested as well. It talked about roads above a golf course called the Bikinna Golf Course, providing access to different grounds that, you know, people needed to get to. And then they mentioned that Oprah's road is open to get the upcountry as well. They also list different shelters where you can stay. Now, my whole point in bringing this up is, and even in talking about this, I felt crazy bringing up celebrities that lived in Hawaii because it's like celebrity or regular person, you don't want anything to happen to anyone at all. And then when you think about something like this, that is a natural disaster. There's nothing you can do, like, there's nothing that any one of the people who are going to be affected by this and are currently being affected by this could do to prevent this from happening. So whether you have money and resources or whether you don't, everyone's there who's there trying to figure it out. I hate that when things like this happen, people turn these conversations into ways to target celebrities. Whether it's about how much money or support they are or not giving what they're physically doing or not, y', all, these natural disasters happen and people are just trying to survive. That should be the conversation right now. I'm glad that, you know, police were able to make the statement and the outlets picked it up so that people there, in the midst of all of this chaos and this, you know what I mean, just trying to make sure their family is straight, their kids registrate, know the information and know that they have these escape routes and, you know, these shelters available and things of that nature. And if you're listening to the podcast and you are in the area of these natural disasters that are happening over there in Maui, if you go to mauicounty.gov and then go to their alert center, you can get all of this information because we do want to be helpful in talking about this. So you can find out about shelters, traffic, evacuation routes, water in the water systems and the damage and where that's at, you know, parks and facilities and how those are, you know, being affected. It's closed, it's open. Transportation, any public transportation that is available. Like the Maui County.gov website is talking about how all Maui bus services will cease operations by 6:30pm or earlier, based on the route, according to the county department of Transportation. And they give you a dispatch number as well in case you have any questions. There's updates on the tsunami and just the county's response, like how, you know, FEMA in the county and local law enforcement, they're working together to make sure people are okay. The fact that we are even talking about Oprah, and I love Oprah, Oprah can do no wrong in my household. You grow up with older black women. Oprah does no wrong. But at the same time, I just think it's ridiculous that people are literally staring down the barrel of a natural disaster like this, fighting for their lives, trying to figure things out. And that's the conversation that we are having. But the fact that Oprah had to come out and even make that statement goes to show you just how Much people care about celebrity for all the wrong reasons and in all of the wrong times. You guys remember when we had that conversation here about Mary J. Blige and a very longtime friend of hers, fashion stylist, fashion architect, legend, icon in the fashion lane, Misa Hilton, who was, you know, stylist for Mary J. Blige, stylist for little Kim. She actually dressed little Kim for the legendary Met Gala look that little Kim wore when she went to the Met Gala and became the first female rapper to attend the Met Gala. They had, you know, they were in the midst of a legal back and forth. Well, that back and forth is still going on and we have some updates here because now Mary J. Blige is finally speaking out, fighting back via her attorneys, and she is saying that the lawsuit is frivolous and that this is, you know, she's alleging that this is basically harassment. It's all about money. But before we get into the new details, I want to take a listen to the conversation that we had when I first spoke to you guys about this lawsuit. Just to kind of give you some background for anybody who may not have heard the episode. We spoke to the lawyer for Misa Hilton, who explained to us what Misa Hilton, what her issue was at the time that the lawsuit was originally filed. Now, this was some months ago and this was such a big shock to a lot of people because Misa Hilton, who is also the mother of Justin Combs, Sean Diddy Combs son, his second oldest son after Quincy, it was a big shock because they've been friends, and I mean best friends for decades, so, so, so long. So people just could not understand what would make her file a lawsuit against Mary J. Blige. And then we got some of the details. Let's take a listen to Misa Hilton's attorney giving me some side of the story of why this lawsuit was originally filed in the first place from some months ago.
Misa Hilton's Attorney
One of the main parts of this lawsuit, not the whole thing, but a main part, is that why would she stifle her own artist? And in fact, from what I understand the allegations go as far as that they told allegedly Misa, well, if you stop managing him, then we'll put him back on, which is a complete material breach of the contract. And again, we found that very strange because of their long standing family relationship. So we were reaching out with the hopes that, hey, listen, let's just settle this. Let's just figure this out. More importantly, the one who's suffering here besides Misa's relationship With her sister is Vato. Unfortunately. What is he doing? His entire career has now been stifled.
Host
Now, when all this happened, at the time, you know, of course, we had tried. I had tried anyway to reach out to Mary J. Blige to just hear her side of things, but there was nothing. I got no statement, no response. There was no. Nothing filed back in response or anything whatsoever. But this week, Mary J. Blige decided to speak out, and she filed documents in response to the lawsuit, and she was. She's asking for a judge to drop the lawsuit. Now, according to the legal docs that were filed by Mary J. Blige's lead attorney, her name is Lisa Moore. Lisa Moore, Mary J. Blige's attorney, is saying that they believe they includes Mary J. Blige, believe that this lawsuit, originally filed by Misa Hilton, is for the sole purpose of harassing and causing malicious injury to Mary J. Blige. They called the lawsuit, as I told you guys, patently frivolous. They also say that this is all about money. Now, according to these docs, Mary J. Blige's team has been pushing for this lawsuit to be dismissed since May. They say that, you know, because the lawsuit is baseless under the governing contract that they allege that they had between them and Misa Hilton, including, you know, text messages. Because at the. At the heart and the root of all of this is an artist named Vato. He is a rapper out of New York. That Mary J. Blige, that Misa Hilton is, you know, she's saying that she manages him and is helping to craft and build his career. She, at one point was doing that in partnership with Mary J. Blige, which included him opening up allegedly, you know, for Mary J. Blige on different tours and different shows and things of that nature. And then all of that stopped. As we heard from Nick, all of that stopped. And allegedly, according to Misa Hilton's team, once Voto would not solely sign with Mary J. Blige and take Misa Hilton out of the mix. And this is all alleged. And according to Misa Hilton's team, but Mary J. Blige is saying that according to the governing contracts that they had between the parties and actual text that she has and she's alleging are from Vato himself raising the issue and wanting to fire Misa in the management company that was managing him. None of that can be true. This lawsuit just does not hold up. And I mentioned the money. Now, what they're actually saying in regards to the money is that all of These things like, you know, the lawsuit is filed, allegedly. There's these narrative running online now because of the lawsuit and the things that were alleged in the lawsuit. And Mary J. Blige's attorneys and you know, her team are saying that they believe that this is all going down because they allege that Misa Hilton and Vato are just looking for a favorable settlement, like they just want money. And Mary J. Blige is saying I'm fighting back and that is not going to happen. So Judge, please dismiss this lawsuit. If not, we will go forward in court, but we are not going to buckle to what they allege is a shakedown. This is very disheartening because as I told you guys, they've been friends for a very long time. It's been like 30 some years that they've been friends. And from everything that I've known, you know, they've always had each other's backs because they've been through so much together. Obviously this lawsuit is not reading this that way at all. I have reached out to Misa Hilton's team just in response to Mary J. Blige's recent filing and her coming back out and fighting back against the claims that are out there against her and all the things that I've told you guys that she is now alleging, but I haven't heard back. I mean, right now I would say that if I am Misa Hilton, if I am Mary J. Blige, you want this to be settled in a way where, you know, me and my friend don't have to be in court or former friend. Cuz at this point, I don't think there's any way that they would call each other friends, which is so insane, y'. All. Like, I can't even describe to you guys how insane it is that Misa Hilton and Mary J. Blige just are at this point. But I wouldn't want it to get to a point where I'm even having to deal with court. But it seems like both parties are not backing down. So unless this is thrown out by a judge, which has not happened yet, nothing has been decided. This filing just literally just happened. But we'll keep you guys up to date to let you know how it goes down because if it goes to court, those things get nasty. You know, there's, there's evidence that is inputted, there's conversations that are made public and things put on blast that you're dealing with two women who have been known figures and you know, Mary J. Blige is the Mary J. Blige for some time. So there's a huge spotlight, a huge spotlight on this because of all of those things and because of those variables that just make things worse, to be honest with you, like 100% worse. So I'll keep you guys up to date on how that goes down and what goes down, if anything. All right, y'. All. So that's all we got for you today. In the latest, I know we kind of were all over the place. We was hip hop in New York, we talking Mary J. Blige, and then we take it on over to Maui and just, you know, giving you guys some updates, making sure everybody's good and letting you know Oprah ain't blocking and Oprah ain't stopping the show. It's not happening. But that is, you know, that's the latest. The latest is there's a lot going on because I tell y' all every episode, at the end of the day, there's always a lot to talk about. But you guys, my lowriders being right here with me to talk about it, I appreciate you guys so much. I will see you guys in my next episode.
