Young M.A
I'm good, man. Blessed. Blessed.
DJ Envy
I was overseas a couple of weeks ago. You know you got the biggest record overseas. Yeah, they redid o and then they did it to like a house. Yes, it's the biggest EDM record they sell. Do you get money off that? Cuz I seen it on for sure.
Young M.A
Yeah.
Jess Hilarious
Yeah, I'm sure you had to clear it and all that, right?
Young M.A
Yeah, of course.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah.
Young M.A
Hell yeah.
DJ Envy
That's the biggest one.
Jess Hilarious
You're looking like you missing no checks.
Young M.A
No, I appreciate that. I appreciate that.
Jess Hilarious
You got the new album queen, but you spelled it K, W, E, E, N. What's the significance in the way you spelled it?
Young M.A
Just signifying king and queen.
Jess Hilarious
Oh, okay, okay.
DJ Envy
How you been though? How's everything? We ain't seen you in a long time. We've seen stuff online. You look healthy, you look good.
Angela Yee
Take that to the now. I'm talking to her about calling Charlamagne gangster.
Jess Hilarious
She don't mean it like I'm literal gangster.
Angela Yee
I just want to make sure that she. That she know you a clown.
Young M.A
Yeah, that's just New York too.
Jess Hilarious
I'm a queen clown.
Young M.A
You a queen for real? N. But no, I've been good, man. Yeah.
DJ Envy
Now we seen. We seen everything online and at one time they said that you were going through your health problems. But what was that all about? For people that don't know?
Young M.A
Life, my man. Life. Life be life. I done explained it so many times, set it in the music. It's just life, man. Yeah. And I just got through it.
Jess Hilarious
Well, I. I hear you talk about, you know, you had to kind of like face your own mortality. What did that teach you about what actually matters?
Young M.A
I don't know. I think just, you know, being kind of disciplined and, you know, a little more patient and. And kind of like really sitting still. You know what I mean? Because when you moving Fast, you don't see a lot, you know, and a lot of stuff just start to catch up to you, you know, I mean, so it was just more so about just grounding myself and kind of, you know, getting out of situations and avoiding certain people or eliminating certain. Eliminating certain people out of my life. Just getting real distant and locking in with God, most importantly. And I mean, God was really the number one, you know what I mean? Reason why I really got on track.
Jess Hilarious
Did that moment really show you who actually loves you?
Young M.A
It wasn't really about a love thing because I've always been the type of person, I don't really seek, like, validation or attention or. So I kind of like, if I feel like something ain't good for me, I automatically, like, have that intuition and I kind of eliminate the situation. Yeah, so it wasn't really that. It's just, you know, you deal with certain things definitely in this industry, you know what I mean? Just being an artist and dealing with fame and then you got personal issues. And I'm the type of person. I don't. I don't really display my personal life on the Internet, you know what I mean? I deal with things privately, so, you know what I mean? A lot of people don't really know my life, so when they see me on the surface and, like, seeing what I went through, people is confused because I don't speak. You know what I mean? I don't speak on nothing.
DJ Envy
So did you move. Did you move out of New York?
Young M.A
Yeah. Was that beneficial or was that worse financially?
Commercial Announcer
Better.
DJ Envy
Okay.
Young M.A
Because New York is expensive. But, I mean, I've moved a lot when I was a kid, so it's kind of like, normal. Yeah, it ain't really. Really make no difference.
DJ Envy
What about the music, musically?
Young M.A
Musically, I would say, yeah, a little bit. Just, you know, leaving my town, it kind of does change things a little bit. But one thing about it, like, I'll make something at home feel like, you know, my comfort zone. So. Yeah, no, I mean, it really make too much of a difference.
Jess Hilarious
I feel like in this era you're less interested in proving yourself and just more interested in, like, just simply living.
Young M.A
I mean, I don't think I ever was trying to prove nothing. I just was, like, openly being me, you know what I mean? And that was it. Like, that's how I was going with it. I think now I'm just. I'm a little more grounded and I'm older, understand. I've been through a lot of, you know, situations in my life where I had to learn from. So, you know, I just see things a little different, you know, that's pretty much it, you know?
Angela Yee
But on Still Free, I thought on Still Free, it was like. Cause I saw you say you don't want people to say this is a comeback. Like, yeah, facts. But so on Still Free, you're like, re establishing, like, don't play with me. And I'm like, I wonder why she felt like she had to do that. But I'm hearing you say you don't feel like you had to, so why?
Young M.A
Cause that's just me. That's always how I've been. Like, it's like, you know, I just want y' all to know, like, I'm still on that type of timing, too. Like, don't look at this. Just like, I'm vulnerable, and you know what I mean? Because I'm just a real. I'm a real person, like, speaking on real situations, but at the same time, like, I'm still thorough with it. Like, you know, I mean, that ain't never changed. So. And we. And we continuing on. There's not no comeback. I don't even feel like it's a comeback. I just felt like I dealt with a situation in my life, you know, I handled it, and I'm moving, you know, I'm continuing my movement. You know what I mean?
Angela Yee
So what are certain boundaries that you set, you wanted to set up as you got back into moving around with music where certain conversations you were having or whatever, where people didn't kind of lean into all the vulnerability side of it so that it didn't take away from the music.
Young M.A
Wait, say that again.
Angela Yee
Like, did you. When you decided to get back into music, right? And you're talking about you don't want people to look at this as a comeback? Were you, like, I don't want to have certain conversations. I don't want to go certain places. Because you didn't want to get so vulnerable that it took away from the hardness of the music.
Young M.A
And you talk about, like, now.
Angela Yee
Yeah, right now, right?
Young M.A
Yeah. I knew it was coming. Like, I knew this had to be. Be talked about, because I don't. Like I said, I don't put nothing out on social media. So everything you see, you see it from other people's point of view. You never hear it from me. So I knew it was a time where I had to speak about it just to kind of clear the air on my behalf, you know what I mean? And then move forward from there. I don't really. Like, I don't look at it like, I don't want to talk about this. I know it's time to talk about it. But like also like, my music is where I, you know, put everything. So it's like you got to hear the music though, more than anything because I'm not going to do a whole bunch of interviews speaking on it.
DJ Envy
What took you so long? It felt like it took a long time for you to come back.
Jess Hilarious
She just, I mean, before you seem
DJ Envy
like a long time.
Young M.A
Because she was touring, she was traveling,
DJ Envy
she was doing shows at one time. It just felt like it just.
Young M.A
I mean, the industry kind of changed too though. Like, you know what I mean? You got to kind of learn how to adapt too. Like, I always kind of fall back and observe the industry a lot, you know what I mean? Just to see like how the music is shifting, how it's changing and that's how, you know, come back and involved. But yeah, I mean, time be flying, but, you know, you go through stuff and like, I really, you know, deal with my situations, like, you know what I mean? And when I feel like it's time for me to get back out there, then I'll get back out there. Like, you know what I mean? Health as well. And that's how I really like my personal life. Like I deal with those things for real. I don't avoid that sometimes because if that's not right, I can't really function in this field, you know what I'm saying?
Jess Hilarious
So, you know, it's crazy. I was having this conversation this morning. Sometimes I feel like the music don't even matter as much as the attention. Do stuff. Yeah. Now for sure, attention seems more valuable than talent. Like, I feel like hip hop's rewarding the wrong thing.
Young M.A
Yeah. And I. It's hard for me to be on that. You know what I mean? Like, I'm. I grew up on music, you know, that's how I vent it. That's how I express myself. So I don't really know how to do something other than that.
Jess Hilarious
Is the algorithm more powerful than the culture?
Young M.A
For sure. I think on the Internet it is. I think in real life it's a little different. But like on social media. Yeah, for sure.
Jess Hilarious
Because it feel like people are making. They not even making music for people sometime. Like it's like they making music for. For. For moments for social media. What's going to get people to talk?
Young M.A
Yeah, for sure. Nah, facts, facts. And that's, you know, that's tough to kind of be in that, you know, in that Type of that situation. Because definitely when you have, like, a passion for music for so long and then you just seeing everything adjust to a whole nother generation of things, it's like, how do you compete with that? You know what I mean? Or do you compete or do you adapt? So I'm like, in between. It's a balance of soul. I can adapt, but I'm also going to compete with it at the same time because I'm still going to be what I'm accustomed to.
Jess Hilarious
Because I heard that record with Tory Lanez, I'm like, yo, that's the fire.
Young M.A
That is already my favorite.
Jess Hilarious
Going, going.
Young M.A
Yeah, yeah. How did that come about? Did you get his. Did he do his verse while he was. Before he was incarcerated or. I don't know already. Oh, okay.
DJ Envy
I mean, she ain't telling on him.
Young M.A
I don't know. I don't know how you know. I don't know how he did it, but he did it. And that shit was fire. Yeah, for sure. But. Yeah, nah, that's the homie. Good people. Yeah, we talk on some cool shit regular. Yo, boom, boom, boom. Got this record. What we doing? And that's how I went.
Jess Hilarious
When you got a record like that and you know it's heat, like, what do you. Does it frustrate you when it's not getting the radio player should or it's not going the way you think it should?
Young M.A
I think. I think I got used to that kind of that vibe because I've been independent, so it's like, I don't. I don't be like, yo, why this ain't. You know what I mean? Like, I gotta work for it. I mean, I'm independent. I gotta work for. I ain't got that. You know, that machine, machine. So it's gonna get there, though.
DJ Envy
But you gotta. You know, you gotta get back to calling DJs, calling people.
Young M.A
Yeah, I gotta get back on that time, for sure.
DJ Envy
Cause at one time, if you don't know, young Ma would come to every party in New York City, every club, to support every dj. So it's only right that the DJ
Young M.A
should turn around and make sure they support you.
DJ Envy
Absolutely. Now on Open Scars, you said the liquor wasn't hiding my pain, it was hiding me. Break that down a little bit.
Young M.A
Just trying to, you know, basically just trying to, like. What was that word I'm looking for? Compression. You know, situations you dealing with. And it kind of took advantage of me, you know? And of course, you know, you don't see that, but, you know, I'M suppressing things, and I'm, you know, leaning towards something that I know will kind of make me forget a lot of stuff and move, you know, move away from it or whatever, mentally. But it wasn't. It wasn't helping, you know, at all. And, you know. You know that. But in the moment, you don't. You know, you just. Until I had to really face reality, you know what I mean? And that's how that happened.
DJ Envy
Is it difficult now because you are an artist? You are in those venues, you are in clubs, you are in those spots where.
Young M.A
No, it's not difficult, because it wasn't never like. Like, I was strung out, addicted like a crack. You know what I mean? It was just like a.
Jess Hilarious
When you rap, though. Yeah. Because you got to be.
Young M.A
You know why? Because a lot of people don't be real. You know what I mean? Like, a lot of people go through this, you know what I mean? I'm just the one to speak on it for real. Like, it's real. Like, there's people going, but they ain't gonna say that.
Angela Yee
So what was the withdrawal that. Cause when you were on Shannon Sharpe, you were talking about how, like, there was, like, a withdrawal.
Young M.A
Yeah, it's withdrawals. That's what. Anything you get too involved in, like, if you. I mean, consume so much of it, you know what I mean? Like, if you stop it, you get withdrawals. And that was scary for me. Cause I never witnessed that. And I didn't realize how much I was consuming at the time. Like, you get hangovers, you know, that's like the normal. But it was to a point where I was consuming so much in that point in time and trying to suppress whatever I was going through that I didn't know that that aftermath, like, that comes with that. And that shook me.
Angela Yee
You said a bottle a day.
Young M.A
Yeah. Yeah.
Jess Hilarious
You didn't have that problem before you took off as a rapper, though.
Young M.A
No, or even when I was, like. Even in the beginning stages that that issue happened, like, kind of like a little after Covid. Yeah.
Jess Hilarious
Do you know what you was trying to run from?
Young M.A
It was a lot going on, and then, you know, a lot of things slowed down at that time. I remember I had. I had just started my first tour from my first debut album, and, like, it got cut short, you know, that was my first headline at tour, and I had a lot of stuff lined up, and it was kind of like, you know, like, shut down, in a sense. And then that pushed me into being outside and being in situations that, you know, I shouldn't have kind of been in and kind of put my attention on things that was opposite of what I was already doing, you know what I mean? And it caught up, you know, and then I'm dealing with personal life, you know what I mean? I don't really want to speak too much on what I was dealing with, but. Yeah. Was it hard for you to record the intro or the album? It's called Therapy the First. Nah. No, that came like that spelled out. That was actually. I didn't actually use crazy because I had a majority of the album done. That was like one of the last few songs I did because I felt like it needed that introduction, you know what I mean? I needed to introduce, like, hold on, let me just tell them a little bit about, you know, who I am, like, where I'm from. Yeah. Real quick. How, you know, born and all that. Just to birth the album a little bit. So. So most of these tracks you've been had, these were over the years or this was recent. Most of the tracks was kind of like recent. Some was like a couple years ago. It's like a mixture, you know what I mean? I kind of put everything together and. Cause I didn't want the album to feel like, oh, I'm just talking about what I'm going through and sad and dark. That's why I had to come with the other records, to kind of be like, hold on. I'm in good spirits now. You know what I mean? We here.
Angela Yee
You know what I'm saying?
Young M.A
You feel me? So taking these niggas, bitches. Hello. That's my new little song right there.
Jess Hilarious
Did you ever feel pressure to always appear strong because you always looked, like, so unfazed, unshakable, like, what you mean, like? Like. I mean, you always look so cool and calm when we first saw you, but so did you ever feel, like, the pressure to just always appear that way?
Young M.A
I just be being. That's just her. Like, I don't be trying to. I don't. I don't think about that, cuz. I don't know. I just be being me all day.
Jess Hilarious
Every day I be thinking, that's game sometime, cuz. You be having Riz, you be coming in just, like, all laid back and cool, making straight. When girls, like, just go crazy.
Angela Yee
What?
Young M.A
Yo, listen. And she always just like that, like, yeah, what's up? I be like, girl, what I'm saying, for real, yo.
Angela Yee
Every time. Every time.
Young M.A
That's crazy. Everybody say that, though. And I just be like. I mean, I don't what I'm. What you want me to do? Like, I don't know what you cool
Jess Hilarious
if that's you, that's you.
Young M.A
Yeah. Yeah. I mean.
Angela Yee
So, Jess, how you feeling right now? How you feeling right now?
Young M.A
I'm feeling good.
Angela Yee
This is just her.
Young M.A
This is she being who she is every day.
Jess Hilarious
When's the last time you felt completely free? Not famous, not young Ma, just you yourself, man.
Young M.A
I mean, I be in the crib, bro. I, like, I really don't be like, if I don't gotta go out, I don't go out. Like, I'll be in the house and I'll be good. Like, oh, I go on vacation. When I go on vacation. I definitely feel free on vacation because, I mean, you run into people that know who I am. Like, that's probably vacating too. But, like, majority of the time when I'm like, out the country and I'll just be like, I feel free more like, you know, in that case. But. And I'll be home. I don't really, you know, I mean, I don't really be outside too much unless I need to be. I mean, definitely now, for sure. I mean, I was never really like that, though. Are you in your love era? Like, you got somebody?
DJ Envy
What?
Young M.A
Just because.
Jess Hilarious
No.
Young M.A
I'm about to ask the following question.
Angela Yee
I'm married.
Charlamagne Tha God
Yes.
Young M.A
But I was asking because on the song trim, you said you got a shorty that loves you and you feel the same. Who's the lucky lady? What is given? Yeah. I mean, yeah, I'm in a relationship.
Angela Yee
Oh, okay.
Commercial Announcer
That's cute.
Young M.A
Yeah.
DJ Envy
You look so bad.
Young M.A
Okay, she's straight.
Charlamagne Tha God
Shut up.
Young M.A
I just want. I'm in a, like, the phase I am with, like, relationships and love. Like, it's not the same from. Since. From the last time I was here. I'm a little more like. I'm a little more like my significant other. Got to be like, she got to be like, on, on, like, level, like in a certain level of her mindset and like, career wise and maturity and just, you know, holding her own self down without ever needing me. Yeah. You know, I'm saying. So, like, that's the type of, you know, relationship, you know, I'm also in. Like, I. Before, it was just more so like,
DJ Envy
you know, you was having fun.
Young M.A
Yeah, it was like, you know, having fun. It was the midst of the moment, just jacking them, like, yo, you know, I mean, you mine. But now, you know, it's like, you gotta be. Yeah, you gotta be on that type of time. And if not, I'm out of here. I don't, I don't really care too much for like the like what we doing? Yeah, I mean like what we doing because the love is there but you got to be on this time and like with everything so.
Angela Yee
Hey, who out there can get stressed out about money? Raise your hand. Okay, other than some kids listening in their parents car and the odd billionaire, I'm assuming that everyone is raising their hand because money, right? Except Ally Bank. With those guys there are no tricks, no hidden fees, no hidden fine print. Ally is a bank and this is kind of craz. They want to take care of you and your money. They've got tools to help you save automatically while you spend. Ally Surprise Savings automatically analyzes your spending to find you saving so you can save more for the things that matter to you. Like when I moved across the country from LA back to the east coast and landed my gig at the Breakfast Club, money management was essential. During a move like that. They even look out for your mental state. For real. Jess Hilarious
It's real. Nah, I believe that because I see how straight women act around you, so I believe that.

Yeah. And then, you know, people, I just be. It's my life, man. Like. Right. So did you ever.

Because, I mean, you know, I really don't like to speak on it because a lot of people don't like you. Not in my shoes. Like, so it's like I can't really speak. Everybody has their own opinions. Like, people. I've seen people saying, like, yeah, you know, she just don't know. Like, I don't know. They were just saying a bunch of. Yeah, a bunch of Shit or whatever the case, and I'm just like. You know what I mean? It's like. I don't know. It ain't like I'm specific. Like, oh, you gotta be straight. Right? It's just the girl I come across. They just be. Yeah, that's just be what it be like? I just love women, plain and simple.
DJ Envy
Any met. Any dude their boyfriend ever call you, like, yo, what you doing?
Young M.A
Like, yo, Nah, damn. Nah, nah. I never had those.
DJ Envy
He took my girl.
Young M.A
No, never. Never. Never. Yeah, never. But you did date girls with kids before. The girl I'm with now has one kid, okay. Oh, okay. That's the first girl I ever been with that had a kid. Oh, so you a step stud. Oh, my God.
DJ Envy
Is that a thing?
Young M.A
Yeah. I mean, I don't know. Oh, man. I just. We. We just. You just fan, man.
DJ Envy
Okay.
Young M.A
Just period. Just fan. All right. Period.
Jess Hilarious
She cooking.
Young M.A
I never cooked steps done before.
DJ Envy
I'm sorry.
Young M.A
They be saying that. They be saying that. They be saying step.
Jess Hilarious
I don't really.
Young M.A
I don't really be throwing no too much of a label. Just. It's the. It is my family, man. It's little man, we moving. That's what's up. And it's a son. Love it.
Jess Hilarious
You're not.
DJ Envy
Yeah.
Jess Hilarious
You're not really a big a label person. Like, even on still free, you say, I ain't perfect. I still sin. And just like Bruce Jenner. I'm still her.
Young M.A
I'm still him. Hello.
DJ Envy
That's hard.
Young M.A
Yes. Fire.
Jess Hilarious
You've never. You've always shunned the label thing. Like, you just. You.
Young M.A
Yes, man. All right.
Angela Yee
She's so tired of that.
Jess Hilarious
Yeah.
Young M.A
It's like, you know, I've been saying this the whole. My whole career, man. Yeah. Ain't really too much to talk about. I don't know why people specific. Because there's people. You know, it's people out there that's really like people that like women like me that like women. There's a lot of them that don't care for the label stuff. Like, it's really a group of people out there that's just really on that timing. You know what I mean? So, like, I don't judge people that want to be this. Like, I don't talk about people who want to be labeled as this and the third. I don't care. That's your preference. I'm good. I don't judge you as love. Love is all love.
DJ Envy
Is that important to you that. Because I. Maybe it's to me. But I don't think people have labels when it comes to you. Other people there's labeled. They just say you're a dope MC or you. There's no labels.
Young M.A
Yeah, I don't get all that. That's what I'm saying, like, most of the time, well, 99 of the time, people just, you know, that's young and may. Plain and simple. But that's how I carry myself, too. You got to carry yourself how you want to carry yourself. And I just be me all day. I don't really try to seek for no type of validation or anything. I'll just be out here being me, man. Plain and simple.
Jess Hilarious
When did you outgrow head for me?
Young M.A
What? What you mean?
Jess Hilarious
Like, when you outgrow it?
Young M.A
Like the holes? Yeah, I'll grow the holes.
Jess Hilarious
Yeah. And once you outgrow the holes, when
Young M.A
she met Shorty with the sun. I mean, anytime, For sure, she. Right, right. Okay. Anytime I'm in a relationship, I cut down on that. You know that.
Jess Hilarious
Cut down, not cut out. Okay. Just cut down on it. Okay, I totally understand.
Young M.A
Yeah. I mean, listen, like, I'm the type of person, man, when I'm. I'm in it, I'm in it. But when I'm out and I'm outside.
Angela Yee
What's your relationship with outside like now? Right. Cause when you was outside before with all of the Heffany stuff, it was like, you literally was. I was telling them before, like, I had such a great summer off that song and, like, the feeling of it or whatever.
DJ Envy
But that record still gives you that
Angela Yee
period, a hundred percent. But now, like, with the. You got a lot of songs on here that is definitely going circulate outside. What vibe are you giving around that? Since your health, life has changed you in a relationship. Oh, okay.
Young M.A
I get what she said.
Angela Yee
Like, yeah, like, how are you navigating the outside world these days?
Young M.A
I ain't gonna lie. I ain't the same. I'm definitely not the same from the Heffeny days. Total, total different person. But I mean, like, it's, you know, that vibe. Like, I still got that vibe in me. You know what I mean? That's why I can still make that. Like, it's still there. Like, if it. I'm outside and all that. We gonna make a movie still, you know what I mean? But I don't go. I don't really always be in the midst of it, but if we out there, we out there. You know what I mean? I ain't never. I'm still, you know, I'm still. I'm an Aries man. It's in my blood. Oh, my God.
Jess Hilarious
Yeah, I saw. I like the. The beautiful pain record. When you talking about all the money you spend a month and all the money you spend a year, like. Like, what's the most expensive lesson this.
Commercial Announcer
This.
Jess Hilarious
This journey has taught you? The music business, all that.
Young M.A
You know what's crazy? I really don't have one because I'm like a penny pincher. Like, I'm real, like, careful with my money. And then my team too, you know, like, the people that I'm with, they kind of keep me, you know, grounded with that too, as well, you know what I mean? Keep me on point and let me know when, you know, there's a little too much here and there, you know what I mean? But me, I really be, like, kind of like, you know, not doing too much. Like, I don't have a whole bunch of cars, you know what I mean? Like, I got, you know, my house is in my name.
DJ Envy
Younger man, that chain is about a quarter, man.
Young M.A
I mean, this is like trophies, though. Like, this is like.
DJ Envy
That area's got a bunch of stuff.
Young M.A
I got a bunch of jury, though.
DJ Envy
That's one stuff.
Young M.A
This is just me. This is like, this is young and me, I got another chain, and that's how I rock it. Calm rolly. This ring that go with it. Them cheeks ain't the cheap teeth.
Jess Hilarious
What she said, she said that's all she got.
Young M.A
Yeah, this. I keep it like this. Like, this is like my trophy. So, like, I put this on when I just feel like I gotta do interviews real quick. But other than that, I'm chilling. Like, I don't be wearing chains everywhere and all day. Like, I'll be cool. Like, I'll be penny pinching, man. I don't spend too much money, so. Only thing I could say is, like, I think the most money I ever spent in one setting is, like, buying a house. All right?
Jess Hilarious
It's a good investment.
Young M.A
Yeah, just buying a house, you know? And now I'm into real estate now, so it's like I'm on. In that verge of like, trying to just, you know, create wealth and make money. My money make money. You know what I mean? So, yeah, I'm in that vibe.
Angela Yee
So you're buying a bunch of homes and stuff right now, like, you making it a business or you just personally.
Young M.A
Well, right now, I'm not gonna say, like, I'm all the way out there with. I'm kind of still learning more. I got A realtor that's been kind of like, you know, teaching me a lot. So of course I gotta, you know, jump in and make the right decision because that's. That that business is, you know, that's not nothing you can really fool around with. Definitely with your money, you know, you can lose a lot doing that business. So, you know, I've been dibbing, dabbing and stuff and kind of like trying to put my money here and there.
Jess Hilarious
What's more beneficial to making good music? Is it the clarity you have now or the are catching that vibe?
Young M.A
Definitely the vibe. You gotta catch the vibe. Because I had writer's block a lot because I write all my music. You know what I mean? I don't have no helpers, so I get in that mode where I can completely shut down and don't have no type of creative motivation. And I have to sometimes just not listen to no music or like, just do something totally different to kind of bring that vibe back. So, yeah, it's difficult a lot of times, but you definitely need that vibe or you didn't need some type of motivation to kind of influence you. And then, like, with music now, nothing really gives me that. So I gotta kind of go in the archives and really listen to old stuff, you know what I mean? So. Because before, like, when music was, you know, doing what it was, I used to get motivation from certain songs, certain artists and stuff like that that kind of pushed me to do a freestyle or a song or whatever the case. But now it's a little more. It's a little more tougher because it's like you said, like, the industry now is more so, like, what you got going on more so than the music. So, yeah, you gotta kind of find it.
Jess Hilarious
That's crazy. So nothing, Nobody motivates you now, like,
Angela Yee
there's nothing now, like, what's the last sexy drill vibe?
Young M.A
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That's New York, you know, that's, that's in the, you know, that's in the, in the city. So that's like that vibe. But, yeah, that's, you know, you gotta. But that's me adapting too. You know what I mean? Still trying to. All right. Oh, this will be on. Let me finesse it like this. Like, I've always been that, that type of person too. I mean, put in my own little style.
Angela Yee
But no artist, but no one artist that you're listening to that you like,
Young M.A
but you think real hot right now. I mean, I, I, with some people music but, like, motivating wise. Oh, gotcha.
Jess Hilarious
Nah.
Young M.A
Because you know, I'd be more in my lyrical mindset. So I like, lyrically, I need somebody to motivate me. Songs and stuff. I can listen to anything kind of in poor or what I could from there. But like to make me go and do a freestyle. Nah, not nobody.
DJ Envy
What do you think of Hov was freestyle when he did it at the roots? That didn't motivate you a little bit. Just back to the boss.
Jess Hilarious
Nah,
Young M.A
nah. Shout out to HOV though. But nah. We getting any visuals? Cause he was specific with that. Like he was direct at somebody. That ain't really. I mean, but then it was like spoken words. Yeah, it was kind of like. Yeah. Cause I snapped after.
Jess Hilarious
That's an interesting perspective from an artist though. Cause I like when people are very personal with it. But you say sometimes my people can be a little too personal. Because you said that he was specific. Yeah, he was.
Young M.A
Wasn't he going at people?
Jess Hilarious
He was.
Young M.A
Yeah, he was kind of going at people. It wasn't like Hov on some like, you know, hov, I'm back outside type hov. It was more so like, let me talk to these about. You know what I mean? So that was like his. What he had going on. You know what I mean?
Jess Hilarious
If you don't chase like you. You've never chased trends, right? But nowadays, if you don't chase trends, it feels like. Has authenticity become like a disadvantage in
Young M.A
the music business sometimes? I think it always kind of been like that, though. I think you only got a few that's kind of like different or stand out. A lot of people always kind of follow trends and stuff like that. I mean, that was kind of always a thing. Yeah, I don't think. I think it's probably. It's probably more saturated now, but that's kind of always been a thing, you know, you really. You know, you had a lot of people that was on this time and then you had majority over here. So are you doing any music videos? You're gonna say any visuals? Yeah, I got. I'm actually. While I'm out here, I'm shooting therapy. I'm shooting a video for therapy. I shot bbb, but I ain't really. I ain't that. I ain't like it. I didn't feel like it was complete. Like it needed more. I need a little more to the video. So I'm gonna shoot more for that.
Angela Yee
What was it set in the bbb
Young M.A
and then I got. Huh?
Angela Yee
Where the one you didn't really like, can you tell us or you wanted.
Young M.A
I shot it in Houston.
Angela Yee
Okay. But like, in a club.
Young M.A
Strip club.
Angela Yee
Like, what. What's the vibe?
Young M.A
I had a pool party.
Angela Yee
Okay.
Young M.A
Yeah. So it wasn't enough. It gave me petty wap, and that's not really what I wanted. You know what I mean? Like, I wanted a little bit of petty wap, but not straight petty wap. So it was giving me that feel. So I feel like, nah, I gotta do something else. And then I did. I got the dancer video. I bended that one like, a few weeks ago. So I got that one dropping actually towards, like, the end of July. Yeah. So bbb, right?
Commercial Announcer
You just.
Young M.A
Since you talking your in there to the girls or whatever, right? You gotta be like, you should have, like, a black tie dinner. I can see like a setting, right? It's a girl in there. Let me know. I need. It's a girl in there with her man.
Angela Yee
And you come in there, you know,
Young M.A
you suited up, you got your. You know, you with your crew, you got your people with you.
Angela Yee
Come and sit down.
Young M.A
Shorty looking at you. She over there, and she like, oh, my God. Is that. Is that young? Oh, my God. And then, so you go over there, you know, you go to the bar. She go to the bar. And then, yeah, her sitting back looking like, yo, what the fuck? And then you start talking that sweet shit to Shorty, you know what I mean? Y', all, champagne. What we doing? What's up? I mean, I know you're not asking me yet. What's up? I don't have to do it. I know a restaurant we can dig. We can dig. I say no more. So you win that one. Let's get it. See, that's how life works.
Jess Hilarious
You can have Chris in the meal,
Angela Yee
too, as I said, walking with her husband.
Young M.A
My husband can play together.
DJ Envy
Walk with your husband. She pull you from your husband, period.
Jess Hilarious
It.
Young M.A
Yeah. This is just acting, babe. It's just acting. Yeah, yeah, acting. Hello. That'll be great.
Angela Yee
That's. That's a great treatment, though.
Young M.A
No, for real. Yeah, I like that. I wanted to ask, who do your hair? Who be doing your hair? I got one girl in Atlanta that does my hair shout out to star. And then, like, New York. New York. Sometimes it. It varies. Like, it'll be. So I just got to find somebody. Yeah. Because I don't live out here no more. Yeah. So I don't have, like, a set hair stylist, so. Looks nice. I appreciate it.
Jess Hilarious
Don't you braid, Jess?
Young M.A
I do. Oh, you braid I braid a lot, actually. You live out here?
Angela Yee
Yes, I do.
Young M.A
I need you.
Jess Hilarious
Yeah. She gonna get you between her legs one way.
Angela Yee
A lot.
Young M.A
She's in a relationship. I'm married, but I'm saying I'll be braiding all the time. Yeah.
Jess Hilarious
I see you got the angel numbers. 4, 4, 4.
Young M.A
Yeah.
Jess Hilarious
You know, that means you're completely surrounded by angels and you are being guided through whatever you're focusing on. Do you feel that way?
Young M.A
Yeah, absolutely. I even got 555 on me.
Jess Hilarious
555. Huge changes are up ahead.
Young M.A
Yeah. And then my next is going to
Jess Hilarious
be333.333 is the ascended masters are right by you, assisting you with whatever it is you're. I think it is whatever it is you're focusing on, too.
Young M.A
Yeah, I believe. Yeah. So those are numbers I see a lot. You know what I mean? So I definitely got it tatted for those reasons and just, you know, being spiritually connected with, you know, just God and. You know what I mean? Within myself, I mean.
Jess Hilarious
Absolutely.
Young M.A
Yeah, for sure.
DJ Envy
Are you gonna be performing this weekend? Wilding out?
Young M.A
Yeah. Yeah. Barclay.
DJ Envy
Yeah. I'm DJing.
Young M.A
Oh, yeah. You're DJing?

Young M.A

DJ Envy

Jess Hilarious
Yeah, we need to start playing that record.
Angela Yee
That BBB Dancer. That little combination right there that sucks you up.
Young M.A
Dancer gonna creep up on me.
Angela Yee
I already know that was the first one. I was like, hold on.
Young M.A

On Authenticity in Music:
"It's hard for me to be on that...I grew up on music, you know, that's how I vented. That's how I express myself. So I don't really know how to do something other than that." (09:59, Young M.A)
On Labels & Identity:
"I don't judge people that want to be this...I don't talk about people who want to be labeled as this and the third...That's your preference. I'm good. I don't judge you. As love, love is all love." (25:31, Young M.A)
On Personal Growth in Relationships:
"Before, it was just more so like, you know, having fun...but now...I'm a little more like my significant other...got to be like, on, on, like, level...with everything." (19:02, Young M.A)
