Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Cover Podcast. I'm Bryce, and today we are on Proverbs Chapter five. This means we've got six more after this. Six more chapters in the Proverbs series, guys. I pray this one. You guys have been enjoying it. I'm loving the Proverbs series. This is going to be a really big blessing today. I'm excited for Proverbs 25. This is a blessing my soul. This series is blessing my soul. Let's read it together. These also are Proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah, King of Judah copied. I love verse two right here. It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search it out. We are amazed by what we do see right now and imagine how much greater the things are that God is concealing from us. But it's the glory of great men to search out the things that God conceals. This is why it's important for us to meet with God in the secret place. It's the glory of God to conceal things, but it is the honor of kings to what? Search it out. Meaning that these things aren't impossible for us to understand or that we will never obtain them. There's a little bit of work that needs to be put in seeking the Lord. God likes the chase. God likes the desire. Verse 3 as the heavens for height and the earth for depth, so the heart of kings is unsearchable. Take away the dross from the silver, and the smith has material for a vessel. Take away the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness. Verse 6 Do not put yourself forward in the king's presence, or stand in the place of great of the great, for it is better to be told, come up here, than to be put lower in the presence of a noble. What your eyes have seen. What is verse six? Saying now verse six is more applying to the culture at the time of like approaching a king. But we can learn to avoid self exaltation from that verse, because when we humble ourselves before God, we should actively be humbling ourselves before other people as well first. 8. Do not hastily bring into court for what you will do in the end when your neighbor puts you to shame, argue your case with your neighbor himself. Do not reveal other secret, lest he who hears you bring shame upon you and your ill repute had no end. Court isn't a bad thing. But he's saying like man, why rush to court when like a lot of times you can just handle things with your neighbor. It's like if you have a dispute with someone, like a literal legal dispute that you know, maybe like approach them and try to have a sit down conversation with them. Said, take it into court. Verses 11 and 12 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver, like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover. To a listening ear, the right word at the right time has the power to heal and strengthen, to guide and rescue every person that receives it. But a fit word also could be a rebuke. That's why it is used to guide and rescue. Fit words have the power to heal and strengthen, but to guide and rescue those that need a rebuke. Verse 13, like the cold of the snow in the time of the harvest, is a faithful messenger to those who send him. He refreshes the soul of his masters like clouds and wind without rain, is a man who boasts of a gift he does not have. There are some, there's. There are some people who give nothing but want to be known as a person that gives. So there's people out there that want to be known for radical generosity without actually being generous. And Proverbs verses 13:14 is telling us the person who wants to be known for radical generosity but isn't generous is like seeing clouds and wind in the sky, expecting beautiful rain to reap a harvest on the ground, and then nothing happens and you're let down. Verse 15 with patience a ruler may be persuaded and a soft tongue will break a bone. If you have found honey, eat. Eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it. What does verse 16 say? If you found something good, enjoy it. There's nothing wrong with enjoying things from the Lord, but if you over serve yourself, your body and soul might have a negative reaction to it, right? Overindulgence. If we Overindulge in good things, it actually becomes harmful and counterproductive in our lives. Verse 17. Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he have his fill of you and hate you. Some of you brothers need to hear this. Don't abuse hospitality, okay? If you live with roommates, don't just walk in the fridge and take their junk, all right? If you have a neighbor across the street, don't just walk in there every day and take stuff. Don't. Don't abuse the hospitality. Be grateful, but don't abuse it. That's like a good. I feel like verse 17 is very popular in the south among Southern hospitality. Verse 18. A man who bears false witness against his neighbors, like a war club or a sword or a sharp arrow. Trusting in a treacherous man in a time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips. Verse 20. I love verse 20. Whoever sings songs to a heavy heart is like one who takes off a garment on a cold day and like vinegar on soda. What is verse 20 saying in Proverbs, chapter 25? The one who treats a heavy heart without sensitivity brings both discomfort and irritation to the heart and the person. Be sensitive and gentle when dealing with people. Verse 21. If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. For you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you. Love your enemies. But then what does he mean by loving your enemies? Is heaping burning coals on there? There's a lot of, like, there's a lot of talk about what heaping burning coals on their head looks like. But heaping burning coals, I believe, means you're throwing conviction on their life. Because most people respect evil to be returned on them when they're angry, frustrated and mean. But when someone is angry, frustrated and mean at you, your enemy, and you return love and kindness to them, it brings conviction on their life to go, dang, what am I doing? Verse 23. The north wind brings forth rain and a backbiting tongue. Angry looks. It is better to live in the corner of a housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome life. We've seen that repeated in a few proverbs ago. Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. When we receive good news, it brings great life and great refreshment to our heart. I mean, my life was genuinely transformed when I received the good news of the gospel. And the gospel is good refreshment to the soul. Verse 26:28 to close like a muddied spring or polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked. It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it glorious to seek one's own glory. A man without self control is like a city broken into and left without walls. Verse 28 is crazy. Highlight that if that's in your Bible and dwell on that now. Verse 26 Like a muddied spring or polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked. Sometimes it's true that righteous men and women fall, Sometimes they stumble, they flutter. But a compromise to life, verse 26 says it's like a dirty pool. So there's this call in verse 26 to live a holy and set apart life. It's important for us to live in righteousness. Guys, I pray that Proverbs 25 was an encouragement to you guys.
