Welcome to the Carpool podcast with Kelly.
Liz
And I typed out like ladies holiday party. And I'm like, well, we're not ladies. Like that's. I'm a child. Like, I can't say that. So I typed in girls holiday party. I'm like, well, not a girl.
Kelly
And Liz, if I influenced you to make chicken or bone broth hot chocolate and it tasted like chocolatey chicken, I'm very sorry that that happened to you. Your mom Time off starts now.
Liz
Welcome back to the carpool podcast with.
Kelly
Kelly and Liz Les Cow. Oh, I thought you were frozen there for a second. You, like did not move. What's up girl?
Liz
Well, we're recording this. It's post Thanksgiving. So like you did. I don't know if you guys caught onto it, but like we actually, actually Thanksgiving had not passed on Tuesday's episodes, but it has now passed on today's episode so for most of you, we're a week out from Thanksgiving. For Elizabeth and I, we're just a day out.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
From Truly. I think Chris pulled off one of the most iconic Thanksgivings to date.
Kelly
I told her this morning, I said, no notes. She said, no notes.
Liz
She said, I had notes.
Kelly
I have no notes.
Liz
I had notes.
Kelly
What are your notes?
Liz
For the most part, really a good Thanksgiving. My notes were when you have to have. And you guys know, like, our family just takes this. Even though it's just literally our family, we take it incredibly seriously. I think when people get there, you need to have one welcome cocktail or champagne because it was too hard. Dad's like, what do you want? What do you. And like, Dad's making an espresso martini for one person, like a French 75 for another. And it's just too much on dad. And I'm like, let's have a pitcher of lemon drops or a pitcher of espresso martinis at when everyone gets there. Or you can have champagne if you don't want the cocktail. And then if dad wants to do after dinner drinks and like, make be more of like the bartender, that's fine. But it was just too many dishes before the meal for him to be making all these multiple cocktails. That was my note. So I said have a signature drink when you arrive or champagne. And then after the meal, you can make a cosmo, lemon drop of blood orange, margarita, whatever you want. And that was my note.
Kelly
Yeah, I thought it. I thought it went really nicely. The only thing, and this isn't really a note because it's my problem and no one else's, but I just feel like I didn't actually talk to anyone because I just felt like I was having small conversations in between chase chasing Kit, like feeding a baby and chasing a toddler. And I just don't think I was really prepared for that. It's like my first holidays with a toddler because James was, you know.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Six months last. Last holidays. So that was hard. So I, like, called mom today. I'm like, I feel like I literally didn't talk to you all day. And then, you know, mom's cooking and she's busy and then we sit down to eat and then, you know. But the meal was the best it's ever been. I don't know what was different this year, but I take back what I said about not liking Thanksgiving food. I loved it.
Liz
Meal smacked.
Kelly
It smacked. And I had a great time.
Liz
Oh, my other note was that we did not have a chocolate Dessert. And I do feel as though a chocolate dessert is necessary.
Kelly
I would agree. I would second that note. Although Charlotte did make her chocolate chip cookies.
Liz
No, of course. But the problem is people treated those as an appetizer. By the time I made my way to the dessert table, they were gone.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
Yeah. I just think a sheet cake, a brownie. Like, Sydney had a cheesecake and a pumpkin pie. Both amazing. I like a chocolate nightcap. I also spent the night at mom and dad's house. So, like, I was there. We arrived at 11. We didn't leave till 10am the next day. Like, I was. I was there. I did the things. I had the leftovers for dinner and breakfast the next day. So overall, though, fabulous Thanksgiving. My salad again, star studded. Love plating the salad before. Mainly because, like, I know everyone has to enjoy my dish. And, like, we all sit down and we just eat my salad for a second.
Kelly
Your salad was great.
Liz
And my salad gets a moment. Yeah, it gets a moment. Yeah. Um. Yeah. And then you left. And then Sydney and I had some cos. My kids were honestly angels. Like, angels. Like, mom had, like, some fun crafts for them and full transparency. We let Fred watch, like an iPad for a while, but so that I could have a great vibe. And I had a Cosmo. Me and Sydney, we talked about online shopping. Real. You know, she has Whole Foods money. She has what? She has. She's got coin. She lives at home and has a great job.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
No expenses.
Kelly
No expenses.
Liz
And I almost think I'm wondering if it's giving her, like, a false sense of reality. Because I'm like, well, wait till you have expenses probably a little bit.
Kelly
But also enjoy it, you know?
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
She's putting a ton of money in her savings. So she's not blowing through her money. She's just spending what she would be spending on rent, which nowadays is a lot of money per month.
Liz
Yeah. And if, like, you just have ever. I think we all went through that. Like, when you.
Kelly
If you ever lived at home.
Liz
If you lived at home while you were working. Yeah, that's fun.
Kelly
It's fun. It's a fun place to be.
Liz
And then it's bills. And bills are so not fun.
Kelly
Bills are so not fun.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
Hate them. What's the deal?
Liz
I know.
Kelly
What's the deal?
Liz
What's the deal with the bill? What's your least favorite bill to pay?
Kelly
Like, medical bills.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Literally. Totally.
Kelly
Yeah, definitely.
Liz
Because you're like, what do I buy, a plane? I have insurance.
Kelly
Yeah. And it's always this. It's always just like, oh, three. $300. And I'm like, what was this for? Especially when you're, like, going to all your OB appointments and you're getting your ultrasounds and you're doing all that stuff. I just feel like we get. We have a lot more medical bills right now than ever before, and they're so annoying.
Liz
Well, I just. I tell you, I don't. I hate every time I'll pay a medical bill and then, like, I'll get a check back for 45, because then they had the numbers wrong. Which I appreciate the check back. I really do, but get it together.
Kelly
I know.
Liz
Get it together.
Kelly
I know.
Liz
Yeah. Medical bills are the worst.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Second worst is, like, to me, like, insurance. I don't mind the house bills as much.
Kelly
Well, the house bills.
Liz
I see what I'm using. I see that, you know. Yeah. The heat was on. Like, I get it. That was more. Yeah. You know, the water was what it was. But to pay for inch insurance is just such, like a. It's like something that exists in, like, imagination land.
Kelly
Yeah. I'm like, what am I. I don't see what I'm paying for.
Liz
And, like, we have, like, a life insurance policy for Tyler and I for each other, and it's just like. That's, like, weird thing to, like, throw money at every year.
Kelly
Yeah, that's so true.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Anyway.
Liz
Anyway.
Kelly
But what do we have on today's episode? I'm so happy you asked.
Liz
General banter.
Kelly
General banter. We have some advice questions. We have industry news. We have just a drive through. Is there anything else classic.
Liz
No, classic December stuff. I'm really excited for December.
Kelly
Same.
Liz
Here's my December advice. I talked about this last year, but don't delay the joy. You know, if you've got a hot chocolate bomb, do it today. The whole month of December is so magical to me. December is the epitome of. It's not the destination, it's the journey. It's the journey. It's the journey through December.
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
And remember what mom says, it's the holidays.
Kelly
It's the holidays. It's holidays.
Liz
It's just. There's no. Everything's just, you know, it's va, va voom.
Kelly
It's go all out. It's spread the joy, don't delay the joy. It's the holidays.
Liz
It's the holidays.
Kelly
That's the only excuse you need to do literally anything.
Liz
And, you know, wear a red lip. You know, wear something you normally wouldn't because just. It's a holiday.
Kelly
Pop that champagne that you've been holding on to. It's the holidays.
Liz
That's a mom. Like, literally, if you see our mother out and about, she'll be. She's just full glam to run to the store.
Kelly
She's full glam. Always. She's always. She's always in sequence.
Liz
The month of December.
Kelly
The month of December. Because it's the holidays. And that's how she says it for some reason.
Liz
It's so funny.
Kelly
It's so funny.
Liz
So funny. I'm actually having quite the. It's a holidays moment because I'm throwing like a party at my house.
Kelly
I know. And I'm not going. I'm so sorry.
Liz
Yeah, I just wanted to do a little like girls vibe.
Kelly
Like love a girl.
Liz
Love a girls girls day. A girls night with some of like my friends who live around here. It's a 6 to 8:30. I feel it's important to put an end time totally on the invitation.
Kelly
Totally. And you know what? As, as someone who attends parties, I prefer to know an end time.
Liz
Yeah. It's not a. Like I especially, especially when you have a party at your house. Like, no, my kids are gonna have to go to sleep and you people are gonna have to leave. So like it's a 6 to 8:30.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And that's plenty of time because here's the party. And also I realized I made it 6 to 8:30 and I'm not including dinner. But do you think that's okay? I don't think people are expecting dinner. I'll have no, like light apps.
Kelly
I think it's fine.
Liz
Do you think I need light apps or heavy apps?
Kelly
No, sorry. I think you need heavy apps.
Liz
You think I need heavy apps? Okay.
Kelly
I think we need like a good charcuterie board and like maybe like a. Like a crock pot dip of some sort.
Liz
It's just so hard when I'm trying to have like a ladies not. Okay, first of all, I was making the invitation. This is a really important question. I was making the invitation and I wanted to let me be clear. I just texted a picture of an invitation. Don't think I printed out invitations. Yeah, I just made it on canva, downloaded on my phone and texted it to people. But I. It's a girls. It's for. Only for women. It's a women's health. It's just like I'm inviting my friends and it's no kids and it's no husbands. Okay. And I typed out like ladies holiday party and I'm like, well, we're not ladies. Like, that's. I'm. I'm a child. Like, I can't say that. So I typed in girls, holiday party. I'm like, well, I'm not a girl.
Kelly
What am I think, Kelly, unfortunately, I think you're a lady.
Liz
You fear.
Kelly
I fear. I hate to say, but I think you're a lady.
Liz
So then I thought, is it Mom's holiday party?
Kelly
Yeah, I think. Yeah, Mom's works as well.
Liz
But I wanted to be clear. Your kids weren't invited.
Kelly
I don't know why you're so hung up on ladies.
Liz
I didn't do it. So I just said holiday party. And then when I texted people, I said, no kids or husbands. I didn't even say a word.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
So anyway, I think you could have.
Kelly
Said moms or ladies, and it would have been fine.
Liz
Mm. Mm. Okay.
Kelly
I mean, we're in our 30s. I'm almost in my 30s.
Liz
Well, it's just like a small, little quaint to get together. And we're gonna. I'm gonna have heavy apps. Apparently, I'll have to have a cocktail and champagne. Those are your only options, because I've learned. I learned that from Thanksgiving. And then we're going to play Rob your neighbor. Everyone brings their favorite beauty product, because beauty products, it's universal. It's one size fits all. I mean, don't bring, like, a foundation in your shade. That'd be weird. But a lip gloss, you know, a blush you love, like a hairspray or something. A roll on perfume. You bring your favorite beauty product, and we play Rob youb Neighbor. And then at the end, everyone, I'm going to get anyone to get, like, a Santa bag. And I'm just going to give everyone some random PR that I've collected throughout the year.
Kelly
Love it.
Liz
I just have a drawer. One thing about Influencer is the. The pr. The only PR I seem to get is, like, by startup, no offense, sketchy skincare companies.
Kelly
So you're going to give those to your guests? Yeah, It's a door prize. It's a door prize. Now.
Liz
Some are good.
Kelly
Some for sure.
Liz
Some are good. Some's a Tula. Some is, like, you know, I probably have, like, an extra dibs brush laying around.
Kelly
Some of it's good.
Liz
Some of it is. How do you pronounce this? I have no idea. Have you used this? No, I haven't used it. I'm also not skincare. And if you've noticed, like, I've rarely ever talked about, like, skincare products. On my Instagram, because that's just such a hard thing to, like, sell to someone. Because I feel like I wouldn't. I don't even know if it works. I would need to do it for, like, six months.
Kelly
And, like, everyone has different skin types, and it's so expensive. And, like, if I were to suggest you get something just because it works really well for me and it didn't work for, like, I just. I. Yeah, I agree.
Liz
Yeah, you.
Kelly
We don't really. Also, if you. We haven't really had skin care journeys. Like, if you are someone who has notoriously dry skin, like, you've tried everything. This stuff works. Like, go trust that person totally. You know, not. We don't.
Liz
I don't have. Yeah, I don't also, like, wash my face. All that. I'll say it out loud. I don't wash my face all that consistently.
Kelly
Well, you just discovered washcloths this year.
Liz
Well, because of my tubing mascara. Now on days I put tubing mascara on, I've got to do a regimen, a routine. So anyway, all that to say is, that's what you expect at my holiday party. So I need to work on the menu. Heavy apps. It just feels weird to do, like, a crock pot full of meatballs for, like, a ladies night. Like, I'm gonna probably wear, like, a. Like, sequins. I'm gonna have a crock pot full of meatballs.
Kelly
Crock pot full of meatballs is great. I mean, at the end of the day, like, what are you gonna do? Cucumber sandwiches? Like, no. Like, give the girls what the girls want.
Liz
Okay, well, I'm for sure gonna do a cheese board. The question is, do I make it or do I just order one? The thing is, you price it out six ways to Sunday. It's about the same price. It is not like I'm saving $100 by making it myself. And it's like, crap.
Kelly
Yeah. You've got to put a price on your time as well.
Liz
And my execution.
Kelly
And your execution. Okay, for you, I would order it. Yeah, for me, I would order it. That's not. That's not really where we thrive. No.
Liz
Charcuterie boards are hard to make.
Kelly
They are hard to make.
Liz
I would just get such decision fatigue sitting in, like, the refrigerator section of a grocery store trying to comb through artisan cheeses. That sounds just tough.
Kelly
Not the vibe.
Liz
Okay, so I'll do that. Maybe I'll do some sort of crock pot protein or some sort of protein. And then what cocktail should I do? I Think champagne's fun.
Kelly
Champagne and cosmos. It's a holiday, but it's the holiday, guys. And this is the perfect example. If it's the holidays, Cosmo's on a Monday.
Liz
It's the holidays.
Kelly
It's the holidays. It's December.
Liz
Okay, well, anyway, this is your sign to have a holiday party. Don't delay your joy. You know, wear a red lip. Wear a sequin.
Kelly
Absolutely. Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho. Kelly, I think we need to address some drama, and that's drama surrounding bone broth hot chocolate.
Liz
Wow.
Kelly
Didn't know that was gonna be the most controversial thing I've ever posted about.
Liz
Liz and I both. First of all, I was influenced by my sister and to make bone broth hot chocolate. I gave it a whirl one day, and I was like, oh, this is pretty good. I don't taste the bone broth.
Kelly
Yes.
Liz
So I posted it, and I literally said it, guys, it doesn't taste like chicken. I would never tell people it tasted like chicken. Which I literally stand by that for sure.
Kelly
I would never drink something in the. I would never drink. I'm not that desperate to drink broth that I would. That I would endure a chicken chocolate flavor. Like, I would just drink it plain, you know, now if I was that desperate.
Liz
But apparently, a lot of our followers, a lot of our listeners have tried it, and they've had different experiences, and they've had chocolate chicken vibes.
Kelly
Okay, I have a couple of things to say. Number one, if I influenced you to make chicken or bone broth hot chocolate, and it tasted like chocolatey chicken, I'm very sorry that that happened to you. I'm sincerely. I feel as though it was my fault, and I'm so sorry that you had to experience that. That was not my experience, however, and I need you to know from the bottom of my heart, I would have not told you to do it if I had experienced anything chocolatey related. Now, here's the other thing I want to say. People are saying, I taste the chicken, I taste the onion. Okay? So out of, you know, science at this point, I go and I. Someone else said they could smell the onion. So I went and I smelled my bone broth that I bought straight. Doesn't smell like anything. Doesn't smell like onions, hardly smells like chicken. Doesn't really smell like anything. Tasted it, very subtle. It. It doesn't have a lot of flavor. And so now I'm thinking. I think that the brand that you get matters. So I got the Trader Joe's chicken chicken bone Broth, which was in the refrigerated section. Someone else said they got that one and they did not taste the chicken. And then I got the full circle beef bone broth. Now, I think we all need to just, like, go check in our refrigerator really quick and make sure we're getting chicken bone broth, not chicken broth and not chicken stock. Chicken bone broth. It has to be the bone broth, because I don't know how it's going so wrong.
Liz
Well, and now I'm wondering. It's a good point. Now, I don't remember the brands I had. I don't. I do know I had bone broth. I'm wondering if it's like a cilantro effect where some of us are gonna taste it and some of us just aren't.
Kelly
Oh, this is what I was thinking. That reminds me. Not cilantro effect, because I don't know what you're talking about. But it's the blue and black dress versus green versus the.
Liz
Do you not know about the cilantro effect?
Kelly
I don't know what cilantro effect is.
Liz
Do you like cilantro?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. About half the population think cilantro tastes like soap. Like, they taste so.
Kelly
Okay, so maybe it's okay. So here's what I want to do. I want. Because if I tell Maddie I'm giving him bone broth, hot chocolate, he'll be like, absolutely, I'm not drinking that. I'm going to give it to him. I'm going to taste it, and I will not taste anything. And then I'm going to give it to him and see if he tastes it. Because he's. He has a quite the refined palate.
Liz
Okay, well, let us know. Now, some positives that came out of that thread were one, if you have leftover broth, stock or bone broth, so many soup options, use it for your soup sundae. It will not go to waste. So at the end of the day, you're out in uncomfortable taste. But it's going to be fine. We'll make, you know, make.
Kelly
We wasted a cup, you know.
Liz
Yeah, make a soup. Secondly, some hacks have come out now. Of course, if you want hot chocolate, go off queen, make hot chocolate. But if you want, like a higher protein version, a lot of people are saying you can just heat up the fair life protein chocolate milk chocolate for a high protein, which I see how that's also an option. So something. Go ahead.
Kelly
I have another protein hack, because what I did was I have the clean, simple eats marshmallow protein powder. So I mixed that in my bone broth hot chocolate. So I got like even more protein in it and it was really nice. And I think that you don't, you don't have to get the marshmallow one. It's just what I had. But I think you could also add like some chocolate protein powder or vanilla protein powder. Yeah. To regular hot chocolate.
Liz
Love it. Love it. So.
Kelly
And if you don't get. So sorry. No.
Liz
And like, my new advice is just don't make it because I can't live. I can't put on my conscious that people are trying like that 50% of people are going to try and not like it. So officially don't try it. That's my new stance. It's not worth you hating me for.
Kelly
No, it's not worth it. And also if you're saying I had to doctor it up so much to be able to even drink it, don't drink it. You should not have to doctor it up at all. Like, I just, I can't explain it, guys. I'm so sorry.
Liz
And maybe that's us having a non refined palate. I don't know. Maybe we can't taste the notes and other people can taste. That's it.
Kelly
Maybe, maybe that's what it is. I don't know.
Liz
But new stance. If you haven't made it, don't make it. If you have made it. I'm sorry, Make a chicken or make.
Kelly
If you have also please go check and make sure you got bone. Like I want to. I want you to po. If you tried it and you still have the broth, take a photo and post in that thread. Like, I want to see what brands you're getting. I'm so confused. And then I want to go buy the brand and try and make it.
Liz
Totally.

Engagements in Dolby and Imax. Okay well anyway don't take our advice on that but Liz do take our advice on other things and we do.
Kelly
Have some advice questions that I want to get to so and if you.
Liz
Want to leave your own advice you can write in that. Hello the karma official dot com.
Kelly
Okay, we have some in law holiday questions with or question one question. I love these kinds of questions.
Liz
Same.
Kelly
So hey gals. I'll get right into it. My husband has three brothers, two of which are married. One adult niece and one just welcomed a baby. We had our first baby back in the spring. With Christmas coming up, I've suggested multiple times we do a Secret Santa with the siblings. Since the family has been growing and it's so expensive to buy everyone a present, one of my brother in law is a single one agrees but everyone else is against it. Both my mother in law and father in law have more or less said if you want to get someone something then do it, but if you don't want to, that's okay too. That doesn't sit well with me because if I buy one person something, I'm a jerk for singling out someone or not getting them something basically. Do you guys have any ideas on how to approach this? I see this becoming a bigger issue as time goes on and the family continues to grow. I love my in laws but his family isn't great with boundary setting which has sort of been a point of contention with them in the past. So I'm trying to tread lightly.
Liz
I. I agree with you. I'm sorry, I'm gonna say this. I'm gonna say this because I've already been canceled from the hot chocolate incident. I hate adults buying other presents for each other in that capacity. I like the Secret Santa. I thought of you, you thought of me. That was fun. Just to swap 50 purchases though is the most insane Thing to me ever. It really is to me. That's insane. Not the reason for the season, if you will.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So I don't like that. I agree with you. I think you did your part. You tried to bring it up. I think you can't do anything else. And I think you have to buy gifts for everybody because I agree you'll look like an ass if you don't.
Kelly
Well, here's what I was kind of thinking is maybe. Okay, so maybe they're not on board with maybe this. The brother, the, the sibling in laws aren't on board for the secret Santa. Get with them though and say, hey, let's all throw $20 to a gift card or to a gift for the mother in law and father in law. And then maybe you're not spending 50 bucks on them, you're spending 20 bucks on them. And then you combine it and then maybe you can kind of start there and then they can slowly like move out. I think you should. I agree. I think that they should do a Secret Santa amongst the siblings. That's how we do it is we do a secret Santa. Monica.
Liz
Wait. But that's what she's saying. So the in laws are the. Her mother.
Kelly
I know. So her. So yeah. Her mother in law wouldn't be in the Secret Santa.
Liz
No. I disagree with you. I think you, I think you should get your mother in law a present yourself. I think mother in laws you buy presents for.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I don't think you buy presents for siblings. And I think that's the crazy part of the story.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
For every sibling and their wife. Like that's so annoying. That's.
Kelly
Or you just don't buy anyone a gift and you say, okay, well, I didn't feel like buying anyone like you. Here's the thing, anytime it's the in laws, it's not your problem to solve. It's your husband's problem to solve.
Liz
Oh, interesting.
Kelly
I think so. I mean, she's brought it up a couple of times. And if isn't going anywhere, then her, her husband needs to like sit down with his brothers and be like, hey guys, this is how we're doing it. We're not gonna buy everyone gifts. So we're gonna do secrets. Like your husband needs to take the lead on this.
Liz
Yeah. And you tell husband, hey, I'm not buying gifts. So if you wanna buy gifts for everybody, go off. But I'm not doing it.
Kelly
I'm not taking up. It's not gonna be on my hands.
Liz
Your husband won't. So then you Know, Jennifer, your sister will be mad for a minute, but you.
Kelly
But you've tr.
Liz
If you've Cosmo.
Kelly
If you've tried to suggest the Secret Santa and they're not going in that direction, then like, this is the only.
Liz
Yeah, disgusting.
Kelly
This is the only logical place to go. Okay, I don't know if that was helpful or not, but maybe buy her.
Liz
All the ingredients to make bone broth, hot chocolate.
Kelly
Yeah, that could be fun. And then maybe she'll be like.
Liz
And get her stock.
Kelly
I don't really want to get any more gifts from her anymore. Let's do Secret Santa. Okay, here's the next question. Hey, Kelly and Liz. Buyer's remorse. Advice is the subject. Hey, Kelly and Liz. After outgrowing our Volkswagen Atlas, we car shopped for months and finally bought a 2019 Suburban Premier. This summer. With our trade in and savings, we're fortunate to not have a car payment. It's got all the bells and whistles, great. And great mileage, slash well cared for, et cetera, but it still drives like a land yacht. And I get worse mileage in town than I was expecting. Even with thorough research, I can't help but wonder if I made a mistake and should have bought a Honda Odyssey or Kia Carnival instead. Should we think about trading it in for a Minivan? We have three boys, 7, 5 and 2. The older two play hockey, so trunk space is important, but our long road trips are infrequent. Maybe once or twice a year. Would love to hear your thoughts. Should I set my pride aside and trade it in for the magic slide and sliding doors? Or be content with our paid off mini bus? Probably worth around 40k if we trade it in.
Liz
Sorry, what's her car?
Kelly
She has a 2019 Suburban that she bought. That she bought. It's got all the bells and whistles.
Liz
It's very recently.
Kelly
She bought it this summer.
Liz
Okay. But it's paid off.
Kelly
But yeah, they don't have a car payment.
Liz
Here's. So here's. Here's the thing. Yeah. You could trade it in and get a nice used minivan for yourself. Maybe even probably a used minivan. Like a slightly used minivan. The only thing you'll really be out, quote unquote out, is you'll have to pay sales tax now on the minivan. Oh, well, hold on. Depending on your state, you may only have to pay sales tax on the difference. If it's paid off. Yeah, go for it.
Kelly
No reason to not do it.
Liz
No, because I think that you'll be able to get one for less. Do you think she'd be.
Kelly
Do you think that with the kids set up and everything and the hockey gear and all that stuff, you think that the minivan is going to be a good move for her?
Liz
I think that it will, yes. I think it will give you similar space to the Suburban. I think I understand the term land yacht. They are better driving cars than a minivan. I mean, minivans don't have the best acceleration.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So, you know, you're kind of trading like one thing, you know, one flaw. Not flaw, but like one con for another con. But I mean, I sympathize with you on the gas mileage. I don't know. You're not gonna get. Unless you get the hybrid minivan, which you're never going to find for that, like equal trade, you know, don't get 2018 to 2021 on a minivan. So you're not going to get 36, maybe a little more, but yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm okay with her trading at. Now you're going to pay tax, title and license fees again on your state. You might have to pay sales tax again, you know, and it might just give you brain damage because, I mean, I don't know what you bought the Suburban for versus, like what it's worth now, you know, so. But if it's like, if it depreciated in value, like six grand and you only drove for three months or two months, like, that might hurt.
Kelly
Yeah. So. Worth going down the rabbit hole to.
Liz
I'm, I'm. I'm approving the rabbit hole.
Kelly
Okay. A rabbit hole approved.
Liz
Rabbit hole approved only. And then I think the other reasons are personal. But yeah, it's so hard because, like, I don't always like to stand. I like the whole point of this platform is like, to empower moms and women's moms. And women.
Kelly
Moms and ladies.
Liz
Ladies and girls, if you will.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
During the car buying process. So, like, you're not gonna hear me tell a mom that she's wrong and she doesn't like how it drives. To me, that's. If you don't like how it drives, like, okay, that's enough of a reason. Like, I'm gonna be the one who listens to you and who tries to. I'm going to tell you your options. Like, tell you, you know, maybe my opinion. But at the end of the day, like, if you want to get a new car, like, I'm not going to be. I'm not going to mansplain to you how it's a bad idea. Like, that's not what I do here.
Kelly
Okay?
Liz
So go off, girl.
Kelly
Go off. Go off, lady. Okay. That was all. I can pull up more advice questions. Unless you want to get on. I do have a random fact, though.
Liz
Oh, hit us.
Kelly
So I just googled, like, a random fact about, like, December. I was kind of curious. Seems timely. And I found this one that I found interesting about artificial Christmas trees. And it talks about what? The first artificial Christmas tree. The first artificial Christmas tree was made in Germany in the 19th century from Goose feathers. Dyed green goose. Wouldn't that actually be kind of pretty? Like a feathered Christmas tree?
Liz
Yeah, it sounds really pretty. It sounds really pretty. I thought that was. And did you know how many feathers the average turkey has?
Kelly
Oh, who brought this to us? Was this Lizzie? What'd she say, 5,000?
Liz
5,000.
Kelly
5,000. Yeah.
Liz
So, you know, if you think however many a goose has.
Kelly
So I can wonder how many geese they needed to make an artificial Christmas tree.
Liz
Mm. Mm.
Kelly
Begs the question, speaking of Christmas tree.
Liz
And Thanksgiving and turkeys, did you. I just wanted to, like, give a little shout out because I don't think I've talked about it in a while, but I am the Detroit Lions fan now.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And it's a good year to be a Lions fan because they. Yeah, they've had 11 wins, only one losses. Like, they're probably gonna go to the Super Bowl.
Kelly
Did you just Google that?
Liz
No, I would. They play on Thanksgiving. First of all, they were the original. Want to play on Thanksgiving? The Lions. My team.
Kelly
Your team.
Liz
And they won on Thanksgiving. I was cheering.
Kelly
Oh.
Liz
And did you know the. Now, this isn't Lions related, but this is another fact that's football related. So anyway, shout out, Lions. I have joined. If you guys also, just, like, want to pick a random football team to start rooting for if you don't have one in your state or your city. Lions. We accept everyone.
Kelly
We. You're one of them now.
Liz
What is the only team in the NFL who doesn't have cheerleaders? Never has.
Kelly
I have no idea.
Liz
The Steelers.
Kelly
The Steelers.
Liz
I just could call.
Kelly
Why don't they?
Liz
I don't know. It just could come up on a trivia night.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Those were three facts we just gave.
Kelly
That was a lot. I liked the. I liked them.
Liz
And now is the time for industry news, where I spill the hot tea going on the auto industry.
Kelly
It sure is.
Liz
Okay, literally, pull up your hot chocolate bone broth because this is interesting. I had to send it to Liz Because I wasn't exactly sure I had it like I was reading it correctly, but I fear as though I was. So the headline from the Detroit News, home of the Lions, feds reject auto industry plea and they keep automatic emergency braking rule intact. Now, there is a new federal regulation that's requiring automakers to install automatic emergency braking technology in all new vehicles by 2029. And there, then there was like, talk about, like, are they. Will they, won't they? And they said they will. Despite complaints from the auto industry, NHTSA said on Monday it would make minor changes to the automatic emergency braking rule, which finalized in April, but preserve its most important tenets. Safety groups cheered the move. Now, this sounds like a win win, right? So basically, nits is like, hey, automakers, you have to include automatic emergency braking on all your cars. They did this back in 2016 with backup cameras. So all cars 17 and newer are required to have backup cameras. So to me, this is like, yeah. And every, first of all, every car manufacturer has the technology. So, like, what they're really doing is some of them are putting it behind paywalls of trim level or by models.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
Now, the automakers aren't happy about this, which is giving ick. First of all, NHTSA says the AEB saves lives and prevents crashes. The auto industry is calling it practically impossible. And they're all mad because it's. They say it's a really disastrous decision by the nation's top safety regulator that will endlessly and unnecessarily frustrate drivers, make vehicles more expensive, and at the end of the day, won't really improve driver or pedestrian safety. Which. Okay.
Kelly
Okay, sure.
Liz
NHTSA says this new requirement will say live. Will save lives, at least 360 lives a year and prevent at least 24,000 injuries a year. So the auto manufacturers are saying no. The frustrated drivers. If you've ever been in a car with automatic emergency braking, let's be honest, one time it went off and it wasn't supposed to.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
And it gave you a spook.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
Several times it's gone off and saved your life. Most likely.
Kelly
Yeah. So third thing, you will get used to it.
Liz
You will get used to it. You'll get used to it.
Kelly
Like, okay, you're frustrated for a moment, but you just maybe avoided a car accident.
Liz
Now, will it make cars more expensive? Well, it wouldn't if it would just make you have less profit automakers.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So that you look stupid for saying that.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And sorry. I trust nhtsa. It's just really hard to Trust the people benefiting financially off not doing it.
Kelly
Mm. Yeah. So.
Liz
But NHTSA said too bad. So sad. We're not. You're doing it now.
Kelly
That's so icky on the like when they're saying the automakers are saying this, who is speaking for them?
Liz
They're not named. Oh. So hold on. Let me tell you, let me tell you. The alliance of Automotive Innovation, which represents all US Automakers except Tesla, has already asked President elect Donald Trump to re examine the rule.
Kelly
This is like not a good look.
Liz
And then the guy says this is John's. The president and CEO of the alliance said, what a waste. A 10 year partnership with policymakers that put the life saving automotive technology in almost all new cars was just tossed aside. See, I don't really know what that means because he's like trying to act like. So I think, you know, sometimes when they have these policies come out, there's other things like buried within it. So you just never know.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
But then he's the one who said it's a really disastrous decision by the nation's top traffic safety regulator that will endlessly and unnecessarily frustrate drivers, make vehicles more expensive and won't really improve it. Said the lobbying group is telling NHTSA that it's vastly underestimates the com the compliance cost for automakers and warned that the regulations require warn that the regulations require automatic braking will occur far too in advance of what drivers typically are used to, which would likely cause more collisions. So I guess NHTSA is also saying like you have to change like the current one that's in it. Like it's not up to snuff and the manufacturers are like, no, that would be crazy. So it's hard to know whose side to be on. But I'm going to choose NHTSA because it's not that hard.
Kelly
Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to choose a side of people who are studying safety and not.
Liz
The people who are making the money.
Kelly
Correct. Just if I had to pick a side.
Liz
I'm interested to hear the IHS take on this. Because nits is government funded. So is independent.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So I just like wonder what they would say. But Consumer Reports, there's a quote in here of Consumer Reports but you know, therefore things like that.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And that's the hot tea going on on the auto industry.
Kelly
It is hot. He will have to keep an eye on it.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Okay, Keller, you ready for dish to drive through where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut?
Liz
I am.
Kelly
I think we both have one.
Liz
Well, I decided to start a new tradition because, you know, it's the holidays always. The thing is, I love pizza. Who doesn't love a pizza night? And I want to make my own pizza dough because it doesn't seem that hard. I haven't, like, dabbled in the sourdough world like you yet, you know, when something calls for yeast in the recipe, I tend to run the other way. But I said, you know what? This is three freaking ingredients. Like, surely I can do this. And I think, like, homemade pizza dough tastes so much better. So I made some. And here's what I learned. Kind of a royal pia, to be honest.
Kelly
Really.
Liz
I just, you know, once flour's on the counter, it's just. It just just feels annoying. And it's very much the thing. I mean, there's one thing to bake with flour. There's another thing when they go put flour on your counter. Like, that's like when a recipe tells you to chop an onion. Like, sometimes you just roll your eyes and run the other way. Now I will do it again. I will get better at it. Maybe I need to invest in like some nice parchment paper to. For easier cleanup. But I think the hack is you can buy like Trader Joe's for a dollar 99 sells pizza dough.
Kelly
Yes, they do. And it's also very good. And I just think the thing with a homemade pizza night is it is so a. Choose your own adventure and choose your. Choose your level. You can go easy, you can go hard. Yeah. You can make your own pizza dough. You can, you can buy just like pita or non bread. You can buy a frozen pizza if you want. You can really do. Do the most or do the least. I kind of like to meet somewhere in the middle and I will get like a naan bread and just do the marinara and the cheese and air fry it. That's kind of usually. That's usually my go to for a homemade pizza night. But I do want to try and make my own sourdough crust because I have heard it's very easy, but I'm not there yet.
Liz
Okay, well, I think you should try that. And I'm with Liz. I think. I think you can. You can do the most, you can do the least. My advice, take it for what it's worth because you know, I hate. I'm now I'm wary to recommend, but it was a fun thing to try to accomplish. Even bad pizza dough, even a bad pizza is still good. Like my dough wasn't great. A little chewy.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Still good. Yeah, we ate it all.
Kelly
Have a. Have a backup frozen pizza in the freezer.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And that's something that I want to say for the holidays is, you know, you've got parties, you've got places to be, you've got meals to prepare, and it's just really, really important this time of year that you have frozen pizzas in your freezer. Because there will come a night.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Where you're burnt out and you have nothing else.
Liz
And our thagus have run out and.
Kelly
Our thawgas have run out and the grocery store is insane. So stock up on your frozen pizzas. This is my. I posted this on my story the other day. This is my dish to drive through. It is such my true ditch the drive thru. It is like when I've been home alone all day with both kids. I have cleaned the kitchen 80 times. I don't want to do dishes, but I also don't want to go out. And I know my husband and my son will devour it. And that is Trader Joe's orange chicken with rice. It is so good. It's so easy to make. You put it on. I buy two bags for me, Maddie and James because James will legit eat an entire bag, put it all in a pan, bake it at 350 or 400 for 20 minutes, put the sauce on top, microwave your rice.
Liz
Yeah. See, I think I need to make a Trader Joe's haul before the holidays. The freezer. Specifically the freezer section. Because, yeah, I. The. I don't have time to do freezer meals. I'm too busy. I don't have the time now that I had back in August. I have time. I don't. So I need pizza night equivalents, you.
Kelly
Know, And Trader Joe's orange chicken is just as easy as popping a pizza in the. A frozen pizza in the oven.
Liz
Truly, that's a good idea. I'm gonna go make a Trader Joe's. I'm just gonna. I just live. I can't tell you. I live so far from one now. And if they're so un. I'm sorry I said this before, but if you live in St. Louis, they are in the. They're so unconveniently located to me.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
There's just not one in my route.
Kelly
Yeah, there is one in my route.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
It's a blessing. Well, and that's it.
Liz
But I have farm fresh eggs.
Kelly
But you have farm fresh eggs.
Liz
I have eggs today.
Kelly
You have 11 acres. You don't get to have 11 acres of land. And also Trader Joe's nearby.
Liz
Not for less than millions of dollars.
Kelly
No, not for less than millions of millions. So.
Liz
No, no.
Kelly
You know, we all give up. We all give up different things.
Liz
Speaking of a December to remember sales event, the hay bale. You need a hay bale.
Kelly
What are we going to do with the hay bale?
Liz
We're doing Rudolph.
Kelly
Great idea. Excellent. Love it.
Liz
Yep, yep, yep, yep. Now we were just gonna spray paint eyes and a red nose on him and then find branches for antlers, but Tyler was like, what if I just made it like he did the turkey?
Kelly
And absolutely.
Liz
Then I'm like, tell her. Then you're done. Then you're done.
Kelly
Then you're done.
Liz
Then you never have to do this again. Then every year we just take the wooden eyes, the wooden nose, the wooden antlers and put it on our hay bale.
Kelly
One and done.
Liz
Take the turkey off, put the roof, put Rudolph on.
Kelly
Done.
Liz
I know. Yeah, I'm like really proud of him.
Kelly
Yeah, I'm proud of him too.
Liz
And I think he's enjoying like the. It's like been a good, like creative, artistic outlet for him.
Kelly
The turkey, every time I see it, I am just like, this is not my sister's house like any free handed it. I find it so hard, like just knowing who you are like deep to your core just to like see you have like any Christmas decoration out or anything like that. It's just, it's so not who you've ever been. And so when I pull up to your house, I'm like, this is Kelly's house. They have this, they have this giant turkey and it looks amazing.
Liz
Well, we've done a lot of work on our house and you know, we're trying to like, we're trying to give it some. Our friends drive by our house. You know what I mean? We're not tucked in a neighborhood. Like, they're driving by our house and we wanted to give them something to look at, you know? So Teller mowed the whole field the other day. Like, it looks good, it looks good. So stay tuned. I do think I'm not, I'm not going to be this girl who's like, for Valentine. No, it's over. It's an October through December thing and then it's gone.
Kelly
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then it's. Then it's over.
Liz
It's too much. It's fun. For the holidays.
Kelly
For the holidays.
Liz
For the holidays.
Kelly
I love it.
Liz
And that's our episode so excited for you.
Kelly
