Kelly
Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly. What's more embarrassing? Going to a theme party and being, like, way too into theme or going to a theme party and, like, not being in theme enough. I have been to, like, a Halloween party that I thought adults dressed up at, and they did not, and that's humiliating.
Liz
And Liz, this is way harder than I thought it was gonna be.
Kelly
I think it was gonna be, like.
Liz
Butter chips, and it'd be like, they're french fries.
Charlotte
Your mom. Time off. Start.
Kelly
Welcome back to the carpool podcast with.
Liz
Kelly and Liz and Charlotte.
Kelly
Yeah, I got a little raspy voice.
Liz
What's going on?
Kelly
I have no idea. I feel fine. I would say, like, I had the slightest tickle in my throat over the weekend, but I wouldn't even describe it as sick. And now all of a sudden, and it's not even cute raspy. It's like crackle raspy. You know, it's kind of like ears. It's really bad. And this is only podcast recording, one of two today.
Liz
Well, the good news is we have Shartay fit Charlotte Taylor on the podcast today, so maybe she can do some more talking so we don't have to listen to what's going on over there.
Kelly
Yeah. And. But I don't also don't know if I just need to, like, warm my voice up.
Liz
Maybe. Maybe that's it.
Kelly
Yeah, it's kind of that thing where it's like. I don't know. I was awake.
Liz
Stop.
Kelly
Like, I was awake for so long this morning, and then I. It was just me and Libby awake. And then I realized, like, I hadn't said anything all morning.
Liz
Yeah, totally.
Kelly
So then I started, like, talking to myself, and it was completely gone. And it has gotten better.
Liz
Okay. So, yeah, maybe you just need to do a little. Little vocal warm up.
Kelly
Yeah. Me, me, me, me, me.
Liz
Oh, maybe not. Maybe not. Anyway, do we have a show for you. We have Dr. Charlotte Taylor, physical therapist, pilates instructor, sister, daughter, friend, girlfriend of our brother, Craig Suntrup junior. Welcome to the pot. Avid podcast carpool podcast listener. Welcome to the podcast, Charlotte.
Charlotte
Thank you. I'm freaking out. I have been here since the beginning. I remember when you guys started talking about the podcast, and I was like, oh, my God, this is so cool. And then I would listen every week when I was driving to school, driving to work, whatever. And I literally am a little starstruck. I'm like, what do I say?
Liz
Oh, it's. It's a long overdue do for you to come on the podcast.
Kelly
I totally Agree. Charlotte, are you a pretty ad? Are you like, do you, do you listen to a lot of podcasts or do you just listen to our podcast?
Charlotte
I listen just to a couple. So I listen to you guys. I listen to call her daddy.
Liz
Which.
Charlotte
Is definitely like my age demographic. And I've listened to a few other like motivational ones. I can't really remember the name. Just whatever's on my mind, I look it up and that's the podcast. But you guys are definitely always on my top Spotify wrapped podcast listens.
Liz
That is so sweet. I'm so happy you're listening because I, I think Sydney and Grayson probably pop in occasionally to listen. I know Craig's never listened to an episode maybe in the background when you're listening to it. So I'm just happy to know that someone in our family is listening.
Kelly
Mom listens and mom listens and my mother and my mother in law listens to every episode at least twice. Like she'll text me and be like, like on the second time listening. It's like, oh, like how could it possibly change?
Charlotte
I just feel like I don't see you guys enough. I don't see you guys enough. And I love like listening to like what you guys are doing on the week to week basis. And I don't know, that's why I like listening to it too. It keeps me updated.
Kelly
What's the problem is we don't see you enough. Shartay Fit. So that's why now that you have started like dipping your toe and just in and just posting and content creation and sharing your wealth, it's been so nice.
Liz
Your wealth and health.
Kelly
Her wealth and health.
Liz
Wealth and health and health. Charlotte, where do we begin? Charlotte just graduated from PT school so she is starting her job in a few weeks. And Kelly and I were telling her, we're like, girl, you have the best style. You get cheap finds. Like you find your stuff on Amazon. Like you're a bargain hunter. Y you always look so put together a fitness girl. You make great healthy meals. Like you should just start an Instagram and start posting while you're not doing anything. Like you're in this in between. And she's been posting on Instagram. You're one of my favorite Instagram followers. Char Tay Fit. Give her a follow. Charlotte, how long have you and Craig been together? How long have you been in our lives?
Charlotte
Craig and I started dating. Well we started talking like four and a half years ago and then we started officially dating probably like four over four years ago. Yeah, but yeah, that's how long we've been.
Liz
Imagine.
Kelly
Okay. I'm also like. Hold on. Just to give a little context to the listeners, like this. I'm not having any fun right now because, like, they are together podcasting in person, and I'm, like, solo in my basement with my raspy voice. Like, this just does not feel fun to me.
Liz
I'm sorry. You should have come over.
Kelly
I should have come over. I don't know what I was thinking.
Liz
I know.
Charlotte
Next time.
Liz
Anyway, we have a podcast to get to. We have. Charlotte actually brought a game because, you know, she's a great guest and we have some questions for her. I hope you brought a ditch to the drive through. Forgot to tell you, you're supposed to do that.
Kelly
Oh, she knows.
Charlotte
Went out this morning. Oh, I know, I know.
Liz
And, Kel, you have some industry nose.
Kelly
I do have a little industry news.
Liz
Okay, well, Charlotte, let's start with your game that you. You've prepared.
Charlotte
Okay, so to give a little bit of context. So I was born in England and I moved to American wife when I was seven. So I thought it'd be kind of fun to bring some British words to the podcast and see if you guys can guess them or guess what they are. Some of them are car related. I did, because I feel like there's a lot of car related ones randomly that they say different in England, but also just some kind of, like, fun ones, too.
Liz
So now it's time for the British word of the day, where we learn British words so we could be less American. Less American.
Charlotte
Okay, so the first one. What do they call a trunk in England?
Liz
I don't know, like, luggage.
Charlotte
No, no, no. It's.
Kelly
No, like the trunk of a car.
Liz
Oh, I thought you were saying what is. What is. Okay, so the word. Oh, God.
Kelly
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Charlotte
I feel like this is, like, the easiest one I have too.
Kelly
Okay, hold on, I'm gonna think. I'm gonna think. The rear.
Charlotte
No, the hatch. It begins with a B. Oh, gosh. The. The butt.
Liz
The buggy.
Charlotte
No, it's. It's the boot.
Liz
The boat.
Kelly
You thought that was an easy one. The trunk.
Liz
You need to give us the British word, and we need to guess what it is. That'll help us narrow it down.
Charlotte
Okay. What is petrol?
Liz
Gas.
Charlotte
Yes. See, if I gave you.
Kelly
That's weird. Yeah. No, L. Charlotte. Liz, stop telling the guest. Like, let Charlotte play her game.
Liz
She went like, you know.
Charlotte
Okay, this is a hard one. I honestly didn't know this one. I asked Craig this one this morning, too. And he didn't know it. What is. So this is a type of car. What is a saloon?
Liz
A saloon. A saloon.
Kelly
Like. Like a van?
Charlotte
No.
Kelly
Okay. Like a fancy car.
Charlotte
No, like a limo. It seems really basic.
Liz
A sedan.
Charlotte
Yeah, it's a sedan, Liz.
Kelly
Okay, first of all, let's guess it right after I had guessed. Four guesses. I've never heard that saloon is called a sedan. Okay.
Charlotte
Yeah. Okay.
Liz
Is that common?
Charlotte
I don't know. Honest. I didn't know this one.
Liz
Yeah.
Charlotte
But I looked it up and it's a thing.
Liz
Okay.
Charlotte
Okay. The next one. This is another type of car. We don't have too many of them in the US but you guys will know what it is. An estate. They call this. This type of car in the States. Like, oh, he's driving a large estate.
Kelly
An suv.
Liz
No, she said we don't have many of them in the United States.
Kelly
Oh, I don't have many of them.
Charlotte
BMW just got one in to their store. Hint. A station wagon.
Kelly
A station wagon.
Liz
We just talked about wagons, Cal.
Charlotte
Yeah, they call them a state. Isn't that weird?
Kelly
It feels like you guys are just kind of making it up because here's what's interesting. Like, it is the same language.
Charlotte
Yeah.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
You know what I mean?
Liz
But who's making it up? Because didn't we get the English language from.
Kelly
Well, but. No, but like, a state means something in England too. It means in a state. And then apparently it also means a wagon. So I'm just saying, like, the British are double dipping.
Liz
Like, you could just like, come up with new words.
Charlotte
True.
Kelly
Like a boot in England is still a boot, but they're also calling it a trunk.
Liz
That's so true.
Charlotte
That is true.
Kelly
Guys are kind of crazy for that.
Charlotte
Okay, Moving into, like, kind of like fun ones. These aren't car related. Okay. What does the name. What does the word chuffed mean? Chuffed. Chuffed. Like I'll use in a sentence. I passed my exam last week and I was feeling really chuffed.
Liz
Feeling down about it.
Kelly
Relief.
Liz
Opposite.
Charlotte
It's the opposite. Like, really proud, pleased of yourself.
Liz
Chuffed has a negative connotation to me. And I think that that's wrong.
Charlotte
That's so funny. I've heard this one a lot. Like, my mom uses it a lot.
Liz
Your mom uses it?
Charlotte
Yeah.
Kelly
Chuff feels negative. Like, I'd feel like, oh, I'm chuffed. Like, I chuffed her.
Liz
I chuffed. I chuffed that up.
Charlotte
No, it's so chuffed that up.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
This is way harder than I thought.
Kelly
It Was gonna be same. I think it was gonna be butter.
Liz
Chips, and it'd be like, they're French fries.
Kelly
Same. Same thing.
Charlotte
Okay, this could. I think this is an easier one. What is cheeky like? Oh, I'm having a cheeky glass of wine tonight.
Liz
Oh, it's like sassy.
Charlotte
Yeah. Like a little playful.
Liz
Yeah. Yeah, I like cheeky. Yeah.
Kelly
I'd like to start using cheeky because I definitely overuse sassy. And sassy kind of has. I feel like I use sassy very casually and very endearing. Like, oh, my gosh, the dress is so sassy. But sassy's kind of can be negative. Dictionary definition. Sassy's negative. But cheeky's just, like, cute all around.
Liz
Cheeky's cute. All right, let's start using cheeky. Add that one in. I'll take cheeky. I'm gonna leave chuffed behind.
Charlotte
Cheeky's my favorite anyhow.
Liz
Is that all of them?
Charlotte
I have a couple more. I just don't know how many you wanted to do.
Liz
Okay, let's do one more.
Charlotte
One more. Okay. Faff. What does faf mean?
Liz
A sentence.
Charlotte
I was building some shelves and it was such a faff.
Liz
It was hard.
Charlotte
Yeah, it's like a waste of time. Like something you're doing something, like, insufficient inefficiently. It's like, oh, my gosh, this is such a faff.
Liz
I like faf.
Charlotte
I use that one too.
Liz
It's just a made up word, though. Like, I don't know where it stems from.
Kelly
It's just letters combined.
Liz
Yeah.
Charlotte
I mean, isn't any word.
Kelly
Charlotte.
Charlotte
I mean, faf is just easy to say, like, when you're just frustrated and you're doing something like, this is such a faff.
Liz
This is such a faff.
Kelly
What I've also noticed is I feel like so many of your words almost sound like cuss words, but they're not, you know, like, faff, chuff. Like, those sound like words that could be bad words. I might teach them to my kids.
Charlotte
You should. That'd be so funny. I know.
Kelly
Can you imagine?
Charlotte
Do you imagine George?
Kelly
This is such a fast.
Liz
Wait. George would so use that.
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
Okay, let's get in to some questions. So I asked the carpool, like, what do you know about certificate that you were asked on the Facebook group? Like, when are you getting on the pod? So I think people just, like, really want to hear from you.
Charlotte
That is so kind.
Liz
And it's kind of, like, all over the place. A lot of questions about Craig. A lot of questions about your life. So let's just, like, give a little. Let's, like, give a little background. So how did. How did you and Craig meet?
Charlotte
Okay, I know I listened to the podcast of you guys kind of, like, roughly explain explaining it, but I'll go into more detail. So Sydney, everyone's younger sister, yours is younger sister Sydney. We rode together on the rowing team at St. Louis Rowing Club. I was a year older than her, and we just became friends there. We had a friend group going, and we ended up going to college. So I went to Clemson University to row on their Division 1 team. And then Sydney was a younger, and she committed to SMU to go row on their team. So we were rowing against each other sometimes. And so we stayed pretty close. We were both Division 1 rowers, so we stayed close throughout college. And then during COVID she wanted to have a few friends over just because we haven't had. We didn't have people over. We hadn't seen people in forever. So the day after Christmas, she had a few people on the rowing team over to her house. And Craig also had a few people over because we can't really go anywhere, so we're just all in the basement. And I hadn't seen a boy in eight months. So his friends. I was like, oh, my gosh. Like, boy, wow. Like, I gotta talk to him. And so Craig. I've always known about Craig. Like, I. I mean, he's Sidney's only brother. Older brother. Like, I was kind of scared of him. Like, he's also 6 6, and he's a little quiet. I'm like, does this. I've met him a few times before. Like, does he even know who I am? So I had met Craig before, and he hadn't remembered me. Oh, no, Craig. So, yeah, I went through a lot of phases in my life, and I don't know, I. I guess he just really remembered me. But I was really confident when I first saw him again. I was like, hey, Craig, a little about me. My name is Charlotte. And I just, like, told him a few facts about I love it. And he was like, charlotte, I just thought that was so cool of you and confidence. He's like, I love your confidence. And I was like, that's crazy. And then he. We, like, talked that night. And then the next day, he texted me, asked me on a date. And I was like, I don't know. Like, I'm going back to college. I have one more semester of college. Like, I don't want a boyfriend. And so I kind of like I wanted to say no, but then he was like, please, like, I want to take you to the St. Louis Zoo Christmas lights. Like, I think it'd be really fun. So I was like, okay, like, I'll go out, but I have to be home a little early. I'm driving to Clemson the next morning at 5am Like, I can't be out late. So we went to the Christmas lights. We hung out in St. Louis. We went and got drinks, rode, like, those little, like, bird scooters around, which was really fun at, like, late at night. And then he took me back home, and he was like, oh, and we got Taco Bell. Taco Bell is kind of our thing, but we got Taco Bell. So. Yeah. And then he drove me back home, and he's like, hey, I want to come visit you at Clemson. I was like, oh, no.
Kelly
You're like, oops, I got a boyfriend.
Charlotte
I'm like, oh, my gosh. Like, he. We went on one date. What is my parents going to say? And so I was kind of like, you know when people say something and they're like, oh, let's do this, like, it never happens. I kind of thought it would be kind of one of those things. But a couple of weeks later, he was like, hey, I want to book a flight this weekend. Looks good for me. Does it work for you? And I was like, oh, my God, he's actually coming. So he flew down to Clemson, and it's expensive to fly down to Clemson. So I was really impressed. I was like, this. This boy really likes me. And so he showed up to Clemson, met all my friends there, which was another huge thing. Like, I'd been on one date with him, and now he's meeting all of my best friends.
Kelly
And that's a lot for Craig.
Charlotte
Yes, it's a lot because he's a. He's a quiet guy.
Liz
Yeah.
Charlotte
Yeah. And, yeah, he got along with all of my friends, which was so much fun. And we had such a fun weekend. It was crazy when he came and visited at Clemson as well. We went and got like, day drinks one day, like, mimosas with my friends. And it snowed that day in Clemson, and it never snows in Clemson. And it was, like, thick snow. It was like, probably like 5 inches on the ground. And we were all, like, having our drinks. We were like, oh, my gosh, let's go build a snowman. And so we went and built a snowman that night. And I was being a little silly because I was. I had a few mimosas in Me and I kept falling in the snow. I didn't have my snow boots. And I ended up breaking my ankle. Craig visited me. I broke my ankle. And keep in mind, this is my senior semester. Spring season is rowing's championship season. And I was like, oh my God, I just broke my ankle. So I broke my ankle and yeah, Craig left. I had to be in a boot on crutches for weeks. Tell my coaches, hey, I broke the ankle in the snow. But honestly, it was like a little bit of a blessing because in the few weeks later, it was our spring training camp and I couldn't go on spring training camp because I broke my ankle. So everyone else left and is also Covid. So we were being tested for Covid twice a week, which was a little stressful because if you tested positive, your coaches inter. They interrogated us. Like, how did you get Covid? You're supposed to stay inside. Well, I was being a little cheeky. And when everyone went on spring training camp, Craig and I flew to Lauderdale. I already told my coaches this, so this is like a known thing. Oh, I know. I was like, whatever. But yeah, so we flew to Fort Lauderdale and I was so nervous. Cause I was like, oh my gosh, like if I get caught, if I get, if I get Covid, I'm getting in so much trouble. But Craig and I ended up making it official on that trip and like we became boyfriend, girlfriend. We had such a fun time. And I didn't have Covid after, which was great. Those tests were stressful. But yeah, that's kind of how we started dating and our story, which was so fun.
Liz
It's so. I remember when this was happening and I like, we couldn't believe that Craig like asked you out and was like taking you to the zoo. Lights. Like he was very just like, this is what I want. This is how. This is what we're gonna do. And we, I mean, we're always very invested. We've always been very invested in, you know.
Kelly
Everyone.
Liz
All of our siblings.
Charlotte
Yeah.
Liz
And Craig. Craig's never been a like fboy. Like he's always. He is very loyal and very much like he wants to find a long term thing. You actually were asked out by a couple of Craig's friends that night, weren't you?
Charlotte
Yeah, yeah, his. Yeah, one other friend. I'm not gonna say his name. Yeah, there are all.
Kelly
I have to know who it was.
Liz
We'll tell you who it was after.
Charlotte
Yeah, I'll tell you later. I can't say on the pod.
Liz
Okay, so you Meet Craig. You're like, he's great. Omg. He has four sisters. This is going to be a lot to handle. You come to. You knew Sydney. Maybe you had, like, met us, but, like, not really. You know, you're just like, Sydney's friend, but now you're Craig's girlfriend, so things are a big deal. You meet all of us for the first time officially as Craig's girlfriend at a farm party. Our parents had a big party at the farm. Yep. There's all, like, post Covid stuff, like, first big get together. What. What was that like? Were you nervous?
Charlotte
So, I mean, I was really close with Sydney, and I knew Grayson, too, because this was a flash from the past. Grayson also rode for a little bit. So I met Grayson through rowing, too. And so I already knew his two younger sisters, but I was really intimidated by, like, Craig's two older sisters. Like, Kelly, the car mom. Liz is really confident. You guys are both taller than me, which is unheard of. And you both are stunning. I was like, oh, my gosh. Like, this is going to be scary. But I'm also like, I wasn't as scared as I would be if I hadn't known, like, Sydney and Grayson, because I feel like going into a family with four sisters and he's the only brother that would be. That is terrifying. So I was very blessed knowing Sydney. But, yeah, the farm party, we showed up. I'm meeting everyone. Craig has a huge family. I don't have very big, like, a very big family. Craig, the Suntrups, you guys are huge. And so many cousins, so many aunts, so many uncles, everyone. So I was meeting a lot of people that night, and I did not remember anyone's name. I was like, oh, my gosh. But this party, the theme was denim and diamonds. And I didn't really know how hard the Suntrups went on their themes.
Liz
Oh, she didn't know.
Charlotte
I didn't know.
Liz
It's a theme. It's a theme.
Charlotte
Yeah. So I showed up with flip flops on, jean shorts. I thought, oh, jeans, like, denim. A little black crop top. That's it. Then Liz and Kelly are like, oh, no, we've. We've got it. We've got to give you some more stuff. So Liz took me to their mom's and dad's. Their mom and dad's room, and they had, like, a bunch of, like, fake diamonds there. So she put some diamonds on my neck. And then she was like, you need cowgirl boots, Charlotte.
Liz
Just all of us and our mom wear the same Size shoe. Charlotte also wears a size 9, which is, like, crazy. I can't believe you came to a farm party and flip flops.
Kelly
Okay, wait. Also, like, she's British. Also, I do feel like it is. Theme parties are so stressful because, like, what's more embarrassing, like, going to a theme party and being, like, way too into theme or going to a theme party and, like, not being in theme enough. Like, obviously not being in theme enough is, like, the route I would take because I have been to, like, a Halloween party that I thought adults dressed up at, and they did not, and that's humiliating.
Charlotte
Wait, what were you dressed up as?
Kelly
It doesn't matter. Just, like. No, like, nothing crazy. Yeah. It's a story for another time. But it's just like, I. I understand how you're, like, playing it safe and your outfit was very safe, but we also were like, no, this is fun.
Charlotte
And I also just graduated and I had my ACC Rowing championship, and then I had flown home on, like, a Tuesday. This party was like, Friday. Yeah. I was like, you did not have enough time. And I was like, oh, my gosh. Like, I didn't realize this was so whatever, but so happy that we all wear the same shoe size and you guys helped a girl out. But also during the party, Liz and Kelly were like, charlotte, we need to talk to you. And this is probably halfway through the party. So we're all, I don't remember this.
Kelly
So I'm very worried.
Charlotte
So Kelly was few drinks in.
Liz
Yeah, I remember. I remember Kelly's talk with Charlotte.
Charlotte
So you guys sat me down. I was in the middle. It was Liz and Kelly on each side. I was like, oh, my God.
Kelly
I am so nervous about this.
Charlotte
Oh, my gosh. I was like. I was freaking out because I just met you guys and you're like, okay, we need to give you the rundown on everything. Craig is not going to give you everything in your life like you. You're going to need.
Liz
For the record, this was Kelly.
Charlotte
This was Kelly. You're going to need, like, aspects from other people. If you're feeling down, just call us. Like, if you. If you're needing something, just call us. We are here for you. We are here to fill that void that Craig might not, like, fill for you and blah, blah, blah, which, honestly was really helpful. I mean, when you graduate college, you're going through a hard time anyways. And, I mean, your man is not going to give you everything. Your partner's not going to get.
Liz
No. No one can. No one can get. No.
Kelly
And first of all. Exactly. And I do stand by that. That is. That is marriage advice that I give to actually a lot of people because I think sometimes we're trained to have, like, your husband or your significant other, like, fill every aspect, fill your bucket in every way. And sometimes it's like, that's not a fair expectation for people, which is why I think community and family and friends are so important. So, yeah, my point of Charlotte was like, hey, if you're like, feeling anxious about something and my brother's not giving you the attention that you need, like, call me. I'll give you. I know what it's like to be grad, trying to figure life out. I'll give you that attention.
Charlotte
Yeah. And like I said, I stand by that advice.
Kelly
And that's not to say my brother. I don't. People think, like, I didn't think Craig was, like, up to par because I think my brother's wonderful.
Charlotte
Well, this is like my first long term relationship too. So honestly, I didn't know. And I'm also the oldest in my family. I do have an older half brother, but we didn't grow up with him. So I'm the oldest in my family. So I didn't have that, like, older sibling, older sister to say that to me. So I honestly, like, really appreciated it. And I do look up to you guys as older sisters. So it was great advice. I did, like, looking back, really appreciate that and you guys support. Because it could have gone the other way. Like, you guys could have hated me and be like, who is this girl trying to come into our family? Like, it could have gone the other way.
Kelly
We also were like, we got it. We got to keep her. This is a good one.
Liz
This is a good one. I love you guys. Anytime Craig would date a short girl would be like, craig, there's a tall. We're tall girls. There's a tall girl out there who's looking for a man taller than her. You are six. Six. You cannot date a five foot girl.
Charlotte
No.
Kelly
A five foot girl. Anyone. Like, come on.
Charlotte
Anyone.
Liz
She. She can date anyone. And I'm sorry if that offends. That offends someone.
Charlotte
No.
Kelly
And not to say no, not to say it can't work. But I agree. It was like Craig. Yeah. And I think it is funny because I think it's funny how. But I think it's funny how similar Charlotte is to the four of us because I could totally see him, like, going a different direction, just like wanting to be with someone completely different. But Charlotte and not just like the fact that you're also tall in a lot of aspects that I think is very similar to the four of us.
Liz
You're very. You fit really well into our family. And I think that that actually helped with you being Sydney's friend because you got along with Sydney so you knew you were kind of gonna jive with the rest of us to a certain point. That's just something.
Kelly
Sydney's probably the hardest one to drive with.
Charlotte
No, Sydney and Craig are very much alike. Like, Sydney can be quiet sometimes and there was some times, like when I was first friends with her, like, does she like me?
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
I still, I still ask questions. No. But I just all to say, like, if you have kids who are close in age and they're boy and a girl and you're like, oh, no, they're going to date each other's friends, might not be a bad thing. Just saying. Worked out, worked out for us. Today's episode is brought to you by Clean Simple Eats. I love Clean Simple Eats. I use it every day. Maddie uses it every day. I've got my parents on it. Kelly
Yeah. Let's get to know the girl. Let's get to know the girl. You know, not just Craig's girlfriend.
Liz
Let's get to know she's so much more than that.
Kelly
She's a doctor.
Liz
You, you may be the first doctor on the podcast. I'll have to think through all of our previous guests, but you might be the first one.
Kelly
But let's remember the doctor conversation that we had. And we're like, are you a doctor? Do you feel like Charlotte should be a doctor?
Charlotte
Yes, I think I remember this conversation.
Liz
No, and I, I've reflected on this. I think that if you are, have Anything to do with my health? Yes. Physical therapy health, dentist, health, doctor health. So, sure, we'll give it to him.
Kelly
Will you go by doctor? Like, do you. Will you tell people to call you Dr. Taylor?
Charlotte
Unlike my, like, credit cards and, like, bill, like, things like that. Like, I will say, like, Dr. Charlotte Taylor, but I'm not going to introduce myself as Dr. Taylor. I just, like, that's not how physical therapists do. Well, because your patients, like, will your.
Kelly
Patients call you that, or is that not a thing?
Charlotte
You're not gonna call me doctor, I don't think. I mean, that's like my. What is it called? Prefix? Yeah, yeah. But a doctor in, like, in school, in academics, a doctor is just the highest level of education, so it's like a step above master. So a doctorate is, like, the highest level of education. There's also PhD, so Doctor of philosophy. And that's, like, a little different where you're focusing on one area. I could be wrong, but there's, like, a definition for doctor of, like, PhD. And I could go for my PhD right now, but I don't want to. So a doctor is just, like, a level. Because I feel like a lot of people think doctor. Oh, a physician. Like, someone who can, like, prescribe you something.
Kelly
Yeah, we do think that.
Charlotte
No, everyone does. Everyone does, but that's just, like, kind of. I mean, doctor is just the highest level of education. A physical therapist used to be master's. We used to start as a bachelor degree as a physical therapist, and then it got so much more integral and more things. You have to, like, learn to became a master's. And now it's, like, so hard to become a pt. It's now a doctorate degree, but we are definitely not being paid the same as doctors. That's crazy. Yeah, but that's a whole other thing.
Liz
Okay, so, Charlotte, you talk a lot on your Instagram about, like, movement is medicine and being physically active. And so you were a rower in high school. You're a Division 1 athlete. You came back to St. Louis, and you kind of had to, like, get back into, like, what does my life look like now that I'm not literally having to work out multiple times a day per rowing. So. And then you. You and Craig went to Europe, and you came back, and you were like, I really need to, like, figure out what my life looks like now, and I need to, like, get in shape and, like, figure out what works for me. Eating wise and working out wise. Because I'm not. I'm. My life is totally different than it Used to be. So I want to talk about, like, workout routines and, and. And eating and eating healthy and, like, what your approach to that is.
Charlotte
Yeah. So when I was an athlete in college, we definitely had to eat a lot of food because we were. We had two workouts every day. I was probably burning like, 3,4000 calories a day, so I was eating a lot. And your girl loves food. I love to eat. I love to make food. And after college was over, I really didn't like working out. I. I just felt really burnt out with rowing. I hated working out. The thought of going to the gym, I, like, didn't want to do it. So I didn't work out for probably a year after I graduated. And I gained, like, 20 pounds because I was also still eating like I was in college because I was used to eating that much food. So I gained a lot of weight. And towards the end of that year, Craig and I went to Europe for three weeks as kind of a fun trip. He could meet my family over there, and we could explore different cities. And I came back after that trip, and I'll never forget, I had, like, a bikini on or something. And I was like, I look big. I, like, look bigger than I have been. And I looked at Craig and I was like, craig, like, do I look like I've gained weight? And he was silent. I was like, oh, no, that's all I need to. I don't. Don't even say anything. And that was kind of the switch in my head when, like, I need to start looking after myself and, like, eating correctly and working out and, like, finding that joy and workout working out again. And so I started working out True Fusion, which is a workout studio in St. Louis. And I started to doing classes there, and I started really enjoying it. I started running. I tore my hip labrum. So then I, like, had to stop running, so I started doing Pilates. And I just really found joy in that. And it also really helped my body. Just the low impact, working out and with the food. With your question, I. I don't know. I. I've struggled with, like, food and eating for a little bit. Like, definitely, like, binge eating was, like, a thing for me. And, like, I. I found comfort in food and hard to break that. And with binge eating, you really have to, like, figure out the root cause of, like, why you are binge eating. Like, are you stressed? Are you anxious? Is something causing this binge eating? Because you're not just eating all this food just because you want to. Like, it's Something causing it. So I definitely went through my mental struggles after college just finding my joy in working out, finding joy in, like, my body appearance. Because I was like, I do not feel good. I don't look good. I feel inflamed. So I definitely started eating a little healthier. Like, I would make small changes. Like, I definitely didn't. I, I tried all the fat diets, I tried the intermittent fasting, I tried the, oh, no carbs. But I feel like looking back, you just need to make small changes. And like, portion control is a huge thing. Like, weighing my food out really helped me. And it's not going to help everyone, but it really helped me, weighing my food out and seeing like, okay, this is how much calories is how much macros isn't just this food. Let's just eat that and wait 20 minutes, see how I feel before I eat more. And that really helped.
Liz
I. I've talked about counting my calories and, like, doing that too. And again, like, it is not for everyone. So if it does not work for you, like, don't do it. I found more control in that and more freedom in that because it's like, I know what I'm actually putting into my, putting into my body and I feel good and I feel like I'm in control of my own destiny instead of just kind of guessing if I'm eating what I, what I should be, what I, what I should be for to, like, reach my goals.
Kelly
And I. Charlotte, I really like what you just said about just like, making small changes, because the small changes are definitely going to be more sustainable. And if you're looking to, like, not just lose weight, but to have just a healthier life overall, like, what are the small changes that you can make that are going to last? You know, I think that's really. I thought that was. And that's great advice.
Charlotte
And that's not only just for food as well. Like, that's like working out. And if you're like, I'm not a mom, but if you're a new mom and you're struggling with trying to figure out how to, like, work out again and, like, do that, and you're like, oh, my gosh, I'm so stressed. There's so many things going on in my life, like, like, how could I possibly do this? Just, like, be consistent. Pick one thing that you're gonna do consistently, whether that's, oh, if my infant's doing tummy time, I'm gonna do 20 push ups. Oh, if I'm going to the grocery Store. I'm gonna park a little further away from the parking lot and like actually do a little walk in, like just making little changes and being consistent. I feel like a lot of people are like, well, I can't do my workouts. Like, I can't do a perfect 30 minute, 60 minute workout in my little workout set in my gym. Whatever. You don't need to have that to like work out and to like move your, move your body. You can do little things like unloading the dishwasher, 10 squats. Yeah, whatever. Like just finding those little things and making workout accessible as well, like, has been a very helpful thing too.
Kelly
And I did like, for the moms out there. One thing that's really helped me this summer is I've talked about it before, but I just brought my weights to my garage because like I'm. The kids and I are always outside and like my weights downstairs in the workout room in the basement, like, that's when am I downstairs with all four my. Like, then I'm only doing it during nap time. But to bring it up to the garage. Okay, everyone's playing in the yard. All right, like, let me, let me, let's grab the weights. Let's do a little something.
Charlotte
Yeah, I love that I very.
Liz
You have really inspired me on your Instagram because prior to having kids, I was a one hour workout a day, six days a week, and also probably like a mile or two walk. Like, I was really active and like, that was my. For years that was like what my workout routine was. And then when I have kids, I'm like, like, well, I don't have time to go to the gym for an hour. So I guess I just won't do anything because if I'm not gonna go do that, then I'm not gonna do anything. And I kind of got like stuck in this rut. But you saying on your Instagram, like, movement is medicine. Just get out and move your body. Doesn't matter, doesn't matter what it is. If you move, you'll feel better. And I saw you post that on your Instagram. I said, you know What? I've got 30 minutes before the. You know, my child cares up. Normally I let her go a little bit early, but I was like, you know what? I'm, I'm gonna take this 30 minutes that I have right now and I'm gonna go on a kid free walk because those are always longer when you're not pushing a double stroller. And I walk for two miles. And that's something I would have otherwise not have done. I'm like, that was something. I felt good. I met my step goal for the day. And it's just whatever you. Anything is better than nothing.
Charlotte
Yeah. And that's what I love. And I feel like you really need to find that discipline. And you do have time in your day. Like, you do have that 15 minutes, that 30 minutes. You do have time where you can do something like, yes, your kids might be there, but Kelly, I love how you brought your dumbbells upstairs and like, like, while your kid's eating. Okay, do a little 15 minute workout where your kid's eating, he's there, and you're 100.
Kelly
Right. Like, we all think even. I mean, I'm guilty of this too. Like, oh, I don't have like my cute workout clothes on. Like, I don't have like my music playing. I don't have my water bottle. And like, you definitely wait for the stars to align. But yeah, like, if you're not, if, if, if you're not gonna get those 30 minutes, those 60 minutes uninterrupted, like, then get them throughout the day and just.
Charlotte
It's.
Kelly
Yeah, it's. I think that's, I also think that's a great mindset shift. It doesn't always have to look like the girls on Instagram, you know?
Charlotte
Yeah. And also, like, if you can get, like, if you can look at your week and plan, okay, two, three days of these are the times I'm working out. Treat them like, like an appointment. Like, okay, doctor's appointment. No, that's not a doctor. Like, we're doing a 60 minute workout this time, this day. Like, treat it like one of those, like, required appointments. You have to be there because. Be there for your body to be for yourself. Because I feel like a lot of people say that I would die for my kids. Well, like, work out, be healthy for your kids so you can live longer and you can be healthy and show them those habits. I don't know. A little.
Liz
So true. Charlotte, here's a question we have. Where do I start with Pilates if I'm interested but know nothing about it yet?
Charlotte
Yeah. One thing I love about Pilates is you. It's beginner to advance. It's amazing. I would definitely say I love Matt Pilates. All you need is a mat. I started off by just going on YouTube. I love this girl. Her name's Move with Nicole on YouTube. She has a bunch of videos on there. From 5 minutes to 60 minutes. She has a bunch of videos and a lot of them are body weight or non body weight, or you can use some equipment that she also previews in her title, but most of it is just body weight. No equipment needed. I would definitely say start with that and just see if. Enjoy it before you go. Spend a ton of money off at a Pilates studio and also research if you are going into a Pilates studio, because I feel like there's, like, there's different types of Pilates, and you want to know what you're getting yourself into. Like, plank in St. Louis's Legree Pilates on a reformer. And that's so different. It's so hard. But it's so different than, like, the Pilates I teach at Tree Fusion, because the one I teach at Tree Fusion, there's also like a sculpting bundle and some cardio pushes, which is not traditional mat Pilates. And I'm actually training to do traditional matte Pilates at True Fusion as well right now. So hopefully have that soon. But, yeah, definitely re. Research. Do some free videos online just to see if you like it. But that also gives you a good starting point into Pilates and building those muscles before you go to a class if you're nervous about it.
Liz
Charlotte, I took one of your classes.
Charlotte
And you took my friends and family class. That was the first class I ever taught.
Liz
It was so hard. It was so hard. It was a great workout. It was heated.
Charlotte
It's a heated class.
Liz
So that. But it was. It was a. It was a great workout.
Charlotte
Kelly, you need to come to one of my classes.
Kelly
Yeah, no, I will. I. I am. Yeah. I'm nervous about Pilates, mainly because I do think Pilates. You can correct me if I'm wrong. I do think it's, like, a lot of core strength. And my core is probably like. I mean, you know, I just. My core shot, like, I just had a lot of kids very, very quickly, and I've never. I've, like, I've. I've even done it. I've, like, you know, lost a lot of the weight in between kids. And I feel like I've done good, like, with my, like, with my legs getting stronger, my arms getting stronger. Like, I just work those out a lot. But, like, working out the core after kids is very challenging.
Charlotte
And have you been to, like, a pelvic floor physical therapist, Charlotte?
Kelly
Like, absolutely. Not that I don't think I have pelvic floor issues. And also, like, that sounds so boring.
Charlotte
Well, like, you don't. You only have to go to one appointment, but they. It's really Helpful. I mean, it's not just pelvic floor, but they also help you how to engage your core again, like, how to get those muscles back after.
Kelly
I just feel like you're doing that on Instagram, though. You just taught me how to engage. You just did a reel about how to engage your core. And I was. And I was like, that's.
Charlotte
Can you do.
Kelly
Aren't you with. No offense, aren't you a doctor? Like, can you just do a house call with me? Like, do I really have to go get a sitter and, like, drive somewhere to go tell some girl to teach me how to deep breathe? And I know, I'm sorry, I know it's a little bit of a hot take, but I'm just like, I'm. I'm having a hard time finding the motivation to like.
Liz
Well, you don't have, like, yeah, your pelvic floor is not shot, but like, to engage your core. A physical therapist could help you do that if. Yeah, no. And Charlotte's not specialized in pelvic floor. You do have to be specialized in that, don't you?
Charlotte
Yes, you do. And I haven't. Like, I would love to. I did have a clinical in one of that. In pelvic floor, but I would love to eventually get into pelvic floor physical therapy. I think it's really interesting. I feel like a lot of people don't know about it, so I don't know much.
Kelly
Even as someone with four kids, I don't know much about it because I just.
Liz
Just.
Kelly
I've never had as an issue.
Charlotte
I feel like every. Every woman who has a child should go to a pelvic floor physical therapist after they give birth. I think it's just so helpful. And people don't know about it. No, they don't.
Kelly
And it feels also like. I mean, that's a whole discussion on, you know, like, your newborn has like 18 doctor's appointments in the first year of their life. And like, we get one after. After six weeks. And like, that's all like this. That's all the support that postpartum moms get unless you go out on your own and find it. And that's. That's that's kind of wild. But.
Liz
And a lot. Your doctor, a lot of the time has to prescribe you to be able to go see a pelvic floor floor therapist as well. So it's just like, it's another step. It's another task. Yeah, it's another thing. It's a to do. And like, you kind of Got a lot going on when you have a newborn. So it would just be. Yeah, it'd be nice if your hand was held a little bit more on that. A lot of people are asking when you're getting the ring. I just want to adjust. Address the questions. Why would she know they live together?
Charlotte
Yeah, I mean, I did a get, like, ask me anything question box night. That was probably not my number one question was, when are you getting engaged? When's the ring, whatever. And obviously, like, that's something Craig and I have talked about. Like, obviously, that's our goal. He. The whole, like, we've dated for again, four and a half years. And we have always said, like, after I graduate, after I started a job because I was still in my student grind and like, I didn't have money. I want to be able to contribute to my wedding. And also I want to just enjoy my wedding era, like, enjoy my engagement era and be able to spend the money on the things I want to spend. And so it's definitely in the. In the cards, but I want it to be a big surprise. I don't want to know anything. I don't know anything. And Craig's really good at keeping secrets, so you guys will all know when it happens. I'm sure he's, like, so good at keeping secrets.
Liz
I don't know thing.
Charlotte
Yeah. But.
Liz
Okay, last question. And you can follow Charlotte at Shartay Fit for more about her. But where you. You are a bargain hunter. You get a lot of your clothes. Where do you get your clothes from? Where are you shopping?
Charlotte
So I am a broke girly right now. I'm about to start my job, but I don't have any money. Like my Pilates drop. I. It's fun money for the weekends, but I definitely am a girl on a budget. And so I love Gap. I feel like Gap has a lot.
Liz
I love Gap.
Charlotte
I love Gap. They always have great sales. I always wait for the sale. I love Old Navy. I just love that, like, brand, like, athletic.
Liz
They have tall stuff.
Charlotte
They have tall stuff, which is amazing. I'm also a Sheen girl. I know she and has some controversy with fast fashion and just their. Their how they produce their clothes. But right now, since I don't have money, like, that's how I get some of my cute clothes. I do have, like, and she is hard to find stuff on because some of their stuff is not good. So I want to return it. So a lot of people don't know Sheen has free return. So you can just buy a bunch of stuff. And then whatever you don't keep, you can return it. But, but definitely a shein girl as well. And I also love my Amazon. Amazon has great signs as well.
Liz
You're always an Amazon.
Charlotte
I am an Amazon girl.
Liz
You find a lot of good tall. What. How tall are you? 5 10. 5 11.
Charlotte
5 11.
Liz
5 11. You find a lot of good tall stuff on.
Kelly
Yeah, she does.
Charlotte
Yeah. I do athletic wear clothes, literally anything. I love Amazon.
Liz
So you can follow Charlotte for more of those tips. It's it. I'm happy that you're influencing and like just posting your life because I really enjoy seeing is going to be a problem though when then have to buy your links and then we just all show up to the themed party wearing the same like all of us. Because I have, I have purchased, purchased some of the stuff that you've, you've shown.
Kelly
I have too. I just got nervous to a workout set. Like, I'm just like, I can't stop with short.
Charlotte
I love my workout sets and that's what I'm saying.
Kelly
Like, I just, I love seeing, I, I, I'm giving this to you as like the utmost comp. Compliment. I just love seeing like a regular person, like, just post about their life. It's like, it's and, but also produce good quality content because you act like you are, you're putting in the work, you're doing recipes, you're doing like, hauls. I mean, it is. People think it's easy, but then like, no one tries it and so have. Has it been harder than you thought? Easier than you thought?
Charlotte
I was honestly really, really nervous when I first started my account. And I feel like a lot of people know this. Like, I made my Instagram and I let it sit for a couple of weeks because I was like, I didn't even follow anyone. I was like, I don't know if I should do this. This. I was like, you know, I'm just gonna take the jump. I'm gonna do it. And it's been so fun. Like, I love sharing my life, like, posting the stories, like, showing people what I've been doing. And also I feel like I do get a lot of like, oh, where'd you get those leggings? Where'd you get whatever? And I can now be like, oh, look on my Instagram. Like, it's literally there. It's so easy now. And all of my friends have been so supportive and kind and all of the car mom followers and carpool followers that have been following me have been so kind. And I just Love the support, and I just really, really appreciate it. There's definitely a learning curve with, like, links and, like, figuring out Instagram and, like, how to edit and all of that. And you guys are definitely my mentors and, like, learning all of that stuff. But it's been really fun, and I've been trying to encourage some of my friends to do it. I'm, like, you guys would post such good content, and, like, I don't know. I've been trying to encourage some of my friends, too, but I think it's.
Kelly
To me, like, the best parts. I love what you said about, oh, it's on my Instagram. Like, just. Just so when your friends in everyday life ask you things, you can, like, point them a direction. And I really do feel like it is such a good creative outlet. And for someone like you, who is such a creative person, but has also been, like, working her butt off in school, I love seeing this more creative side of you for the first time.
Charlotte
So I know I feel like I couldn't have done it during school. I was, like, busy, but now I don't have. I'm, like, trying to find that, like, hobby that thing to do now. Now I don't have studying every night. And this has been so much fun. And, like, I love connecting with people. And.
Liz
Yeah, I really wish. I'm such a. Like, a nosy, snoopy person. I just love seeing your life. And I wish literally everyone would just post, like, their life. I want to see what you're making dinner.
Kelly
I want to know what everyone's doing. Like, I agree with your.
Liz
How you're redecorating your living room. Like, I want to see that from literally anyone and everyone. So I'm just.
Kelly
I couldn't.
Charlotte
I was.
Kelly
I couldn't agree more.
Liz
I love the Craig bts, too.
Kelly
Live for the Craig bts.
Charlotte
I know. He's. He's cute. It's funny because in, like, public, he's very quiet, but, like, in our house, he's probably, like, the one dancing around, like, being loud, and I'm the quiet one that's being like, Craig, can you stop?
Liz
You get to see a side of him that literally no one else.
Charlotte
No. It's crazy.
Liz
Okay, Kelly, I think that's, like, most of the questions about Charlotte, so let's. Oh, my gosh. We've been talking for so long. Do you want to do our industry news?
Kelly
Yeah, it's just a quick little story, but I did want to. I did want to get to. Says Tesla robot taxis are officially live in Austin. Texas. So we've heard. Everyone's like heard about Waymos, which are those like driverless cars that are in Arizona, California and now Tesla has some and they are called the Robo taxi and they're starting off in Austin. What are your guys thoughts?
Liz
I don't know if I'd get it one.
Kelly
Oh really? I think I would.
Liz
I would do. I would do a short drive. I don't think I would do any highways. Not in Texas.
Kelly
So it says. It says the service is limited and only runs from 6am to midnight. Avoids rains in rain. Sorry. And stays inside. A tight geofence in Austin.
Charlotte
Kids.
Liz
Okay.
Charlotte
I feel like I would get in one. The Wayos are really cool.
Liz
Have you been in one?
Charlotte
I have been in one, but we had one too many people and we got in trouble and the Waymo said to get out.
Kelly
Oh, well, yeah, Charlotte.
Liz
Yeah, they're on it.
Charlotte
I know. We just, we had one too many people and we didn't want to order another one. It was bad, but it was really cool on the inside. But just so everyone knows you cannot sit in the driver's seat, that that's where I was sat and that I got kicked out.
Liz
Oh, okay.
Charlotte
Yeah, Charlotte.
Kelly
Yeah, I would imagine like you can't get in the robots.
Charlotte
I was gonna touch anything. I was like, I literally told it. I was like, I won't touch it.
Liz
I promise. I won't touch you. Scout's honor. Okay, so we'll see how that. So we'll see how that goes. It would just like wouldn't drive. It said like, get out.
Charlotte
No, it like beeped and then this person came on the speaker and was like, hello, this is blah blah blah from Waymo. You need to get out of the car. Oh, okay, sorry.
Kelly
Well, I'm glad to know someone's watching. You know what I mean?
Liz
It's, it's monitored.
Charlotte
It is monitored. And they are, they are really cool.
Kelly
It says Tesla opted for an invite only rollout, giving early access to friendly influencers and investors. That's kind of interesting.
Liz
That is interesting. I get that though. Like a, A slow burn. See how it goes. Kind of like a test.
Kelly
Yeah, I don't know. We'll see.
Liz
We'll see. All right, well, now it is time for digital drive through where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner.
Charlotte
Guys, I'm obsessed.
Liz
What do you have?
Charlotte
Okay, so this has been my new obsession lately. It is a burger bowl. Have you guys done this? I don't think you have.
Kelly
I made one the other week, but I want to hear how you.
Liz
I love a burger bowl, but I want to hear yours.
Charlotte
So I made it last night. It's literally just a spinach. I did spinach and arugula base. And then put some tomato, cucumber, whatever vegetables you want on there. I pickle on the side. And then all you have to do is ground. I mean, brown. Brown. Ground beef. I put salt, pepper, some. I put some Shire. I don't know.
Kelly
You're the British. Yeah.
Charlotte
Worcestershire. Worcestershire. I don't know. You know what I mean? In there as well. Just to give us a little flavor. I. Sweet potato fries on the side and cheese and then the sauce. So the sauce is like the best part. It's so high protein and healthy. The base is plain, non fat Greek yogurt. You put ketchup in there? I don't have any. I just eyeball. I don't have any measurements. Greek yogurt, ketchup. I chop pickles really small, put pickles in there. Some pickle juice, garlic powder, pepper, salt, and then a dash of the Worcestershire sauce. Again.
Liz

Liz
Oh, I think it sounds amazing.
Charlotte
It's so yummy. I think I'm gonna make it for dinner tonight, so maybe I'll make a video showing. But I use Greek yogurt for a lot of the bases of my, like, sauces that I use for, like, salads or things like that, but smart. Yeah.
