Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly.
Liz
And the person in front, like a mom turned around and said, you guys need to be quiet. And I told mom after, I was like, can you believe she did that? And mom's like, well, good. They probably needed to be quiet.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And like now I totally get it. I'm like, yeah, you know what? They did need to be quiet.
Kelly
And Liz, why are male birds always more attractive than the female birds?
Liz
I don't know.
Kelly
It's giving cardinal, it's giving peacock. It's giving rooster. Your mom time off starts now.
Liz
Welcome back to the carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. And it's November. Elizabeth.
Kelly
It's. It's October. Flu.
Liz
Flu. See ya.
Kelly
See ya. It's gone. It's November. It might as well be December. It's already January 1st in my mind.
Liz
And I'm just wondering if anyone else is having an unseasonably warm fall so far because we have not really gotten a lot of cozy fall vibes. And I'm so worried we're gonna have one of those falls where it just doesn't exist and we go from summer to winter.
Kelly
No. What I'm. Yes, but what I'm more worried for is that we're going to have a fall that lasts into December, and that's when that's the only time of year that I want. Oh, goodness, that was slow. I'm sorry. That's the only time of the year that I want snow. And I'm just afraid that it's. We're gonna have, like, fall until, like, Christmas, and then, like, winter is going to come in, like, January, February, March, April.
Liz
I don't think that's good. I think it's going to be cold in December, but I would have assumed it would have been cold in October. And it was in. At least in Missouri, it was blazing.
Kelly
Day of recording.
Liz
I have a sweater.
Kelly
Yeah. Day of recording is 80 degrees.
Liz
I know. It's crazy. I'm just. I'm really hope. I'm like, just. I'm dying to. To get a fall vibe going on, and there's things I want to do. There's apple cider to be. To be drank, and there's chili to make, and there's bonfires to be had, and I'm still over here, like, you know, doing popsicles. I know I can't live like this.
Kelly
I know.
Liz
It's been nice for the girls. I think the newborn girlies, because it's easier with this weather to get them out.
Kelly
This is true.
Liz
And, you know, my kids don't really mind because, like, we're just playing outside more, but I'm, like, ready to play outside in a coat. You know what I mean?
Kelly
I totally. I totally get it.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
I totally get it. I know. I just feel like we missed. We kind of missed the boat, and it's like. No. Now I feel like we get one month of fall, and it's sad.
Liz
Yeah. I don't want to be. I don't want to be that podcast that talks about the weather, because I don't know if, like, that's the thing people care about, but that's just where we're at.
Kelly
Yeah. Does just feel, like, relevant. But anyway, happy November. Which also means that the carpool podcast is back to two episodes a week. Somehow. Somehow we're gonna do that.
Liz
Mm, no. And that feels good. That feels good. Because I've honestly been hating our episodes because I just feel so far removed from the person who recorded that. For the person I am listening. Like, what was I literally talking about in the last episode? I'm only gonna. My kids are only gonna get two presents, and I want to redownload TikTok. Like, who. Shut up.
Kelly
No, Kelly. Literally. I Was like. I was like, I just think we need to, like, let this moment pass. Like, I know that you're going by your kids. Well. And did you see that Tick Tock is officially being banned?
Liz
I didn't say that it's official. Well, that's good. I don't. Are you sure?
Kelly
Yeah, I saw it. I meant to send it to you. Tick Tock. Ban. Tick Tock. Us Ban. Here's why time is running out. Three days ago. So it's. So it's. Well, in January, it's going to be.
Liz
Unless something happens.
Kelly
I mean, I guess that. I guess.
Liz
But bottom line is I don't need my eggs in that basket.
Kelly
No, that's exactly. That's what I'm saying. So.
Liz
But anyway, I'm just saying I. I just want everyone to know. Like, I don't think that was an accurate reflection of who I am, you know? And that's what you get if you give me a mic. 7 weeks postpartum when I haven't slept. Like, you just don't. It's a. It's. It's a roll of the dice. And that's what you got. Y. I'm not gonna buy my kids 10 presents. But, no, I think we might, like, do four or five. Like, calm down.
Kelly
I was like, you're, like, so hot and cold. Like, nothing that you say can be held against you at this moment in your life.
Liz
But anyway, speaking of eggs in a basket, another downside. The only downside of the weather getting colder is I'm really worried what this means for my egg production of my chickens.
Kelly
Wait, I thought we weren't talking about the weather anymore.
Liz
No, but I wanted to transition to my chickens because here's the thing. We've had these things since June. It's five. We're five months in, haven't had an egg, which they say five months. So I'm like, okay, it's been five months. And now I hear that the colder weather makes them lay eggs slower.
Kelly
Oh, so it's just, like, bad timing to have gotten chickens.
Liz
I guess so. Did I tell you that we have.
Kelly
Two roosters, so they don't know if they're male or female when they're chicks.
Liz
I just don't think they, like, try that hard to check. I think they just, like, put them in a box and send them to you. But here's another thing I was thinking, which I haven't Googled this, and I think somebody should. I guess I should have before the podcast. Let's do this while I'm Talking. How does. So we have two roosters, and everyone's like, oh, that means you're gonna have so many chickens, which obviously it doesn't because, like, the chicken has to, like, sit on the egg for it to, you know, be like, grow. And we're going to pull our eggs, but we don't really know what to do with these roosters. We might get rid of them, we might not. I'm. We're just kind of like, see what happens. But I'm just wondering, like, how does it work when you have a rooster? How does the egg get fertilized? And is it like a one to one ratio? Or, like, once a ch. Does a chicken get fertilized and does the chicken lay, like, 10 fertilized eggs? Or, like, does the chicken have to get re. Fertilized every time? Do you know what I mean when I'm saying the word fertilized?
Kelly
Okay, I.
Liz
Is this worse than the TikTok discussion?
Kelly
I'm not really sure what you're asking here. Are you asking? I mean. Okay. The rooster transfers sperm to the hen. This first fertile egg is laid 36 to 48 hours after mating.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
The sperm can remain viable inside the hen for several weeks, ready to fertilize any eggs the hen lays. Does that answer your question?
Liz
It does. No, it does. Okay.
Kelly
O very technical terms.
Liz
Interesting. Interesting.
Kelly
Okay. I'm happy that something that you were wondering for your personal life now everyone who listens to the podcast knows about.
Liz
Well, Tyler thinks. And also we got rainbow chickens. Right. And I think we did luck out, though, because, like, two of the most beautiful breeds. I don't even know what they are. I need to start learning what the breeds of my chickens are because I had a friend over who has chickens the other day, and she's like, oh, that's an Easter egger right there. Oh, that's. She knew. She knew what I had, and I don't even know what I have. No, but my roosters are beautiful.
Kelly
What is up with that? Why. Why are male birds always more attractive than the female birds?
Liz
I don't know.
Kelly
It's giving cardinal. It's giving peacock. It's giving rooster.
Liz
Yeah. Rooster.
Kelly
It's giving Mallard.
Liz
Yeah, I guess because, like, girls are.
Kelly
You know what? Actually, I think it is. I think that the girls are supposed to, like, lay in the nest and, like, protect the eggs and so they're supposed to be more camouflaged.
Liz
Yeah, no, I think. I think it's things like that. And I think, like, girls are attracted to, like, shiny Colorful things.
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
No, no, no. Different than us.
Kelly
Totally. Anyway, let's stop talking about birds on our podcast. I have to just make a note to everyone, I apologize. I have some work being done at my house right now, so I apologize if you hear some banging and clanging. I'm getting my AC replaced. And furnace bummer. Which is something we knew going. Moving into the house that they were very old. Like, we got an inspection. They're like, yeah, these are going to need to. Need to be replaced. But mad, really? Maddie luckily works for an ink track company, so we were like, if we're going to replace them, we gotta get them replaced now. Doesn't mean it's cheap to get them replaced, but we're doing that. And here's the thing with moving into a new house. And here's something about me. I am, like, exceptional at complaining about my life, regardless of the situation. So when I moved into a new construction home, I'm like, oh, it's so annoying. I have to buy blinds. I have to buy all this added stuff. I have to finish out a basement. I. I want to move into a house that already has all that stuff established. Move into a new house. Oh, I have to replace my H vac. So, basically what I'm saying is, no matter where you move or how you move or what you move into, you're going to have to spend a lot of money to do it.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And also, I still have to replace the blinds in this house.
Liz
Homes can be money pits. They're money pits.
Kelly
Totally. How do you know if. I guess you don't know if you're in a money pit or not. Maybe you do.
Liz
Yeah, I think we all are.
Kelly
Is this a podcast? Should we start this over?
Liz
No. I thought. I thought it's been really interesting so far. I think we all learned something about chickens.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
We talked about the weather. I mean, we're just.
Kelly
We're coming, we're warming up.
Liz
I think everyone's gonna give us some grace. Like, we're coming out of maternity leave.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
We have two babies on our laps. Like, yeah. It's not an a game podcast. Sorry, you guys, but I'm here on the mic.
Kelly
The postpartum sweats and just holding a baby. It's all the things.
Liz
Okay, well, why don't we get into my game? Because I came up with a fun game idea that I think everyone will enjoy.
Kelly
Okay, perfect.
Liz
I need something, and it is called Fact or Fiction.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
And I'm going to. I have six car models that are no longer that May or may not no longer be around, slash, were never around. And I want to see if you know which ones were real and which ones were not.
Kelly
Did you come up with the ones that were fake? That are fake? Yes.
Liz
Okay, well, obviously, who else would have come up with them?
Kelly
I wasn't sure if this was like a game that you saw someone else play.
Liz
Nope, I came up with the real. Well, I didn't come up with the real ones. I chose the real ones based on the cars I don't think that, you know, exist. And I chose fake ones based on cars that didn't exist.
Kelly
Okay, okay.
Liz
So you're just gonna say. And I just want to, like, there was a really big Trend in the 90s, early 2000s, and I think they were trying to name cars people. So, like, you know how my dog's name is Tommy, huh? Like they were trying to do that with cars a little bit in the 90s.
Kelly
I don't understand that connection. I don't understand what you're saying.
Liz
Well, I'm saying that's. That's our first car.
Kelly
The gm.
Liz
No, the GMC Jimmy. Real or fake?
Kelly
Fake.
Liz
It was real.
Kelly
The GMC Jimmy.
Liz
The Jimmy.
Kelly
The Jimmy. That's terrible.
Liz
I pulled up a little fact about each one to read it to you.
Kelly
Yeah. Intrigued. What kind of.
Liz
The GMC Jimmy was a sport utility vehicle that was produced from GMC from 1969 to 1991. It was just like your run of the mill, like five passenger suv. It was called the Jimmy. You've never seen a Jimmy on the road? Because I've seen him on the road.
Kelly
Okay, well, when I Google it, I've seen a Jimmy. I didn't know it was called a Jimmy.
Liz
It's called a Jimmy. Yeah. Isn't that interesting?
Kelly
That's very interesting.
Liz
It was the Chevy Blazer equivalent, but like not the new Blazer, like the old Blazer. Like you know the box, little tissue box. The GMC Jimmy. Okay, okay. So you are down. I have a point. You lost a point.
Kelly
I lost a point.
Liz
Okay, let's follow up with this one. The Lincoln Mark.
Kelly
That's fake.
Liz
That's real.
Kelly
The Lincoln mark.
Liz
Lincoln mark. Lt was their F150. It was like a luxury truck called the Mark.
Kelly
Lincoln Mark.
Liz
The economic recession of 2008 significantly impacted the luxury car segment, and the high priced marque was particularly vulnerable. Additionally, the competition offered compelling alternatives. With lackluster sales. Lincoln decided to discontinue the mark in 2010, just after five model years. No one wanted a luxury truck The Lincoln Mark. And I came up with this game because I was driving the other day and I looked over and saw a Lincoln truck. And I was like, I forgot that they made a truck. And then I was shook to my core. I discovered it's called the Mark.
Kelly
The Mark. Wow. Okay.
Liz
I know. So I got you on those.
Kelly
I'm winning.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Yeah, you are winning.
Liz
Okay. The Hyundai Getz gets. Yeah. G, E, T, Z. The Hyundai Getz.
Kelly
Well, now I'm just trying to play, like, a mind game with you. Like, would you do two trues in a row? Yeah.
Liz
I'm actually not telling you how many are real and how many are fake. So, like, don't think it's like. Yeah, I mean, they're all. I can only. I have four more to do, and I couldn't. I can't tell you how many Real. Harmony. Fake. They could all be real. For all you know, I could have tricked you. So go with your gut. The Hyundai gets.
Kelly
Gets. I'll say Real.
Liz
The Hyundai gets was real. Hmm.
Kelly
It was.
Liz
I thought it was kind of a good name, actually. Bring it back. And remember when we had what's his name on the guy from Kia and he just, like, kind of, like, opened the curtain? James. And he kind of opened the curtain how? Like, a lot of the times, like, they. They pay for the trademarks of these names. So sometimes it's cost effective to, like, bring a car back because you have the name.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Hyundai Getz is so fugly. Like, she needs.
Kelly
Yeah, no, I just googled it. Yeah, it's the Gets.
Liz
The guts is real. Okay, ready? Ready for the next one?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
The Nissan Musket.
Kelly
Musket. I'm gonna say not real, like, with a K. I'm gonna say not real.
Liz
Yeah, it's not real.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay, next we have the Ford Ralph.
Kelly
Ford Ralph. I want that to be real, but I don't think it's real.
Liz
Ford Ralph is not real.
Kelly
Yeah, that I see. Of all the names, that is actually a good one. I could see that, like, if. If Ford brought back, like, one of their vintage trucks. But do you remember when we went to the New York auto show a couple years ago and they were like. It was when the lightning came out. And so they were allowing you to test drive the electric truck, and then they also had that, like, fake electric truck.
Liz
Yeah, that was like, the old body style.
Kelly
That was. They should come out with that and name it the Ralph.
Liz
Yeah, Ralph's a good name.
Kelly
Ralph's a good name. I like Ralph.
Liz
I like Ralph. For a kid name. To be honest with you. I know we're past that. I'm past that phase in my life. But like I put Ralph on my list.
Kelly
I don't think I put Ralph on my kid, my baby name list. But I do like it for like a truck or a dog.
Liz
Okay, next is Buick's take on a minivan. The Buick Tereza.
Kelly
Tereza. I'm going to say that's real.
Liz
That's real. And I'm honestly not sure I'm pronouncing it right. And the real story was that Buick had a minivan.
Kelly
Yeah. That's crazy. The Hyundai gets look like it's a minivan without the functionality. So that's kind of crazy. Yeah.
Liz
The Buick Tereza is a minivan marketed from buick from only 2005 to 2007, which is kind of crazy.
Kelly
Didn't we say Buick should make a minivan when we were saying who would make a good minivan?
Liz
I think we did say that. Well, it's kind of wild to me that like GM doesn't have a minivan in the game. Like what are you doing?
Kelly
Well, we were just saying like Buick is like really like doing a lot of good in their designs. And isn't Buick like primarily bought by females?
Liz
Yeah, and that's their favorite statistic that like their. So it's like so give us a minivan and just like take it over the edge.
Kelly
Yeah, so just give us a minivan.
Liz
And speaking of Buick, I did talk on my stories a couple weeks ago how I was going to get an enclave press car. And I just want everyone to know they did have to reschedule my loan. So I have not had the press car yet. But I've been busy with other press cars. I've got an Odyssey and a Sorrento in my driveway.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And that Odyssey, it's, it's probably, it's just, it's, it's so functional. Like it's so functional. It like hurts.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And you just make a lot of it. It's kind of like that like it would be like a 22 year old like making up excuses for like some toxic guy she's dating because it's just like so X, Y and Z. Not toxic. That's the wrong word because like she's not toxic but like I know it's a haunted Odyssey but like look at this.
Kelly
Yeah, no, I see.
Liz
And it just feels like I think I just like going to shake the. Shake the Honda Odyssey engineers hands. Well, I want to shake their hands and I want to smack them for taking away the ceiling vents. And you know something else I'm hating about this minivan this week, which something I don't think I would have noticed unless I did a week long loan. It doesn't have, you know, keyless entry, how you can like hit a button and it locks or unlocks the car.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay, so on some minivans, like on the Kia Carnival, if you hit the button, it starts opening the door. So it's awesome because like then literally Fred could open the door at the minivan. Well, awesome or not awesome depending on your kid.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
But the Honda Odyssey doesn't have a button. I don't, I like, I wish it had a button. You have to like do the handle first.
Kelly
I know. I really hate cars that don't have. If they have the keyless entry, they don't have the button. My Pathfinder is one of them because it never, it never unlocks riders. You lean up against it and then it locks. It's just, I like a button. Just give us a button.
Liz
I don't know what this movement is to take away buttons.
Kelly
It's crazy where it's an attack on buttons. There's an attack on buttons, there's an attack on buttons. And I just think that we need to be, we need to call it out.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So give us, give us back. Bring bad buttons. Today's episode is brought to you by Clean Simple Eats. Kelly
Well, this podcast is kind of all over the place because we kind of like skipped right over our dumps. But I do have something very important that I want to talk about on my dumpling.
Liz
Well, I just feel like I had to save the podcast by bringing in the game and now I feel more warmed up.
Kelly
Don't you? Okay, Yeah, I feel warmed up too. And I'm ready to. I'm ready to get back to complaining about things. Okay, we have to talk about, like, I'm gonna call this playground etiquette. Okay. Because I took James to the library and I discovered a new breed of person that I absolutely, like, can't stand. And I don't, I don't say that very often. Like, I don't. I'm not really into, you know, like mom shaming or like talking bad about people necessarily. Like, I, you know, I try and I try and see the good in people and I try and back that up a little bit. For the most part, however, I find this Type of person to be just, I can't stand. And I didn't know that they existed until I became a mom. And that is a person at the playground, or in my case, the library, who does not watch their child. So I took James to the library and, you know, he was playing with the toys. He went and started playing with these, like, dinosaurs. And this little girl who was probably, I don't know, 20 months old or so, just, like, came over and took the dinosaurs from James.
Liz
Wait, she was 20 months old or 20 months older than James?
Kelly
20 months old? Ish.
Liz
Under two? Almost two. She was.
Kelly
Maybe she was two. I don't know what. She. Maybe she was older than Fred. I don't know. Anyway, she was. She wasn't like, speaking. And so whatever. She comes over and she, like, takes the dinosaurs from James, and James is upset. And I don't know what you do in that situation. Like, I'm not going to, like, touch this child by being like, give that back. Or like, correct. And I'm also like, it's okay, James. Like, we can go play with something else. This doesn't bother me that the child, who does not know better took Dinah, took something from my son because, like, all kids do that. I look over at her mom. Her mom's on her phone now. This wasn't just a. I was looking down at my phone one time. She was looking. It happened repeatedly over and over again to my kid, to other kids. Like, I kept watching it happen. And, you know, I gotta be like a hawk on James because he's like, he'll run away and he'll, like, get into things. Like, he's still kind of too young for me to, like, sit in the corner. Her mother did not look up from her phone, I kid you not. One time did not look up. Took toys from so many people and then started, like, hoarding them by her mom. So now she just had this, like, pile of toys. And her mom didn't notice. Her mom didn't do anything about it. And I. I literally thought to myself, this is terrible, but I'm like, someone could take your child and she wouldn't have noticed. Like, that is how bad it was. Like, she did not look up from her phone one single time. And I just think we need to talk about, like, a playground etiquette for, you know, checking on your child every now and then. And then also, like, what do you do when there is, like, a stranger kid, Maybe hit your child or take something from your child or, like, interacts with your child in A negative way. Like, what are you supposed to do when the mom is, like, not paying attention?
Liz
Well, I hate that the mom wasn't paying attention, but I also think if she wasn't paying paying attention, I probably would be like, hey, I don't know if you saw, but, like, your daughter keeps taking this toy from my son. And maybe, hopefully she'd be like, oh, my gosh, I'm so sorry. Like, I was, you know, working on my emails. Like, maybe let's give her the life of the doubt. Like, I'm so sorry because, like, she, she. Maybe she didn't and like, she should be watching her child. But I would hope that if you told her what would happen and, like, I would want to know. Like, if I have four kids, like, we go to the library, I don't have eyes on every kid every five seconds. If one of my kids did something, I'd want to know.
Kelly
Yeah. You know, I guess that's just me, like, really hating confrontation. And maybe it's something that I need to get over because, like, that is my worst nightmare. To, like, go up to someone and be like, hey, get like, your kid is taking. Like, that gives me such cringe. Ick. Like, I would hate to do that, but maybe just like, something you have to do.
Liz
But it's also, I think once you become a mom, you kind of realize, like, well, I'm. You put your kid first. And it's like, well, I'm not gonna, like, punish James by like, saying, okay, play with something.
Kelly
I don't know, like, okay, we can share. Because, like, there's There. He didn't need. He didn't need to share. You know, like, there were plenty of dinosaurs to play to go around.
Liz
Yeah. But then on the flip side, I just think there's like, you know, you've been in situations where the mom just. You and the mom just have very different parenting styles. And it's even happened with, like, playdates I've been on, like, and nothing, like, crazy like that. But I'm. It depends on the age of the kids, I would say, because I think that that's very young. But I, I am a little bit hands off in the sense where it's like, I do kind of think kids need to work it out. A. And I think that sometimes my kids are going to get toys stolen from them. Okay. That's part of life. Like, let's find something else. Or, like, ask them if you can play with it when they're done. Or tell them, like, hey, I was playing with that Can I finish my game?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
It's very difficult, though. And you'll like, once you start, like, going on play dates with people, like, it's difficult.
Kelly
So awkward.
Liz
And even, like, my good friends, like, people I would consider close friends of mine, like, it's still awkward and we just have different styles. And I only have, like a few friends who I would like who would correct my kids and I would correct their kids. But I like when other people correct my personally, I like when other people correct my kids. I think that's also. I like my kids to have a healthy respect for. For most any adults, really.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
In their. In their lives. Like, if. If another adult tells you to do something or not to do something, I would expect them to listen to the adult.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And, you know, obviously, like, I'm. Obviously, I control which adults my kids are around. So it's like adults who are trusted at all, like, that I trust. But yeah, you know, if they tell you to give it back, then give it back. Or if they tell you not to do that. And mom always used to. I remember, like, I'll never forget one time we were at church and, you know, we're. We're a pew of seven and like, you know, mom's on Mom. Our mom was like a cantor at church. She was like. She would sing at church. So it was like all of us and dad or whatever in the pew and, you know, whatever. And I remember Craig and Sydney were being really bad. I bet they don't even remember this. Craig and Sydney were being really bad. And the person in front, like a mom turned around and said, you guys need to be quiet. And I told mom after. I was like, can you believe she did that? And Mom's like, well, good. They probably needed to be quiet.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And like, now I totally get it. I'm like, yeah, you know what? They did need to be quiet.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And you know who they listening to? The stranger. Because kids always listen to strangers.
Kelly
Oh, yeah. But never to you.
Liz
But never to you. So I was like, you know what? Go off. Tell those kids to be quiet. So obviously, obviously there's a balance, but.
Kelly
It'S just like I have never. Obviously never been in that situation before. And it's just like a whole world that I never knew existed of just. Yeah. The playground and the etiquette and the rights and the wrongs. And I was just. I was. I've never been. I was just so frustrated with her. So anyway, that's my. That's my dump. I really needed to get that out thank you for giving me a platform to do so well, Liz.
Liz
I'm so happy that you could do that here.
Kelly
Yeah. I.
Liz
What's one thing I want to talk about on my dump is I have my new favorite show in the world, and it's Desperate Housewives.
Kelly
Okay. You were telling me about this. I still haven't watched it yet.
Liz
No, I'm only on season one, and there's like, eight seasons. And Tyler. When I told Tyler I found a new show, and I was like, I think you'll like it, too. He's like, well, how many seasons is it? And I was like, I don't know. He's like, what does it matter? He's like, well, you just. You want to know, like, what you're getting yourself into. I can't believe it's eight seasons. That feels so overwhelming because, you know, I get to watch, like, 30 minutes of my show every single day with the way my life works, and it's going to take me years. So I'll be watching Desperate Housewives for years.
Kelly
No, but I think that's good. I would rather have something to. I would rather. Seasons.
Liz
I would, but I just can't believe. And I. What's also good about the show is, like, it's old enough where, like, I'm not going to get spoilers or anything, so please, no one tell me anything. But it's so good. I find that I. I think my favorite genre of show is dramedy.
Kelly
Okay. Yeah.
Liz
Like, you know, it's a funny show, but there's a good plot. Like, it's not a sitcom. A dramedy.
Kelly
Yeah. Well, I think those are. Those are good to binge, too, because they're light, but there's still, like, a.
Liz
Storyline to follow, and there's just so many, like, twists. There's so much. There's so much going on. And it's one of those shows. It's on Hulu, if you're wondering. It's on Hulu. It's one of those shows that from the five minutes into the first episode, you're hooked because, like, there's a big, like, bombshell, like, something huge happens in the first five minutes, and then they just build off of that. And then while they're building off that, like, other things happen. And it's also one of those shows where. Which I like a show where the audience is finding out things that the characters aren't finding out.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
So, like, there's. So you kind of, like, have time to sit with it or, like, you're Hearing, like, a snippet of a conversation, you're like, well, what could that mean? And then, like, what is that? What is she gonna say when she finds out what that means? So just, like, really, really good.
Kelly
And where do you watch it?
Liz
Hulu.
Kelly
Oh, Hulu. Okay. Yeah. I did have to recently get Hulu for House for Mormon Wives, so I should probably watch it before I cancel it again.
Liz
Well, it's eight seasons, so you'll never finish, so just, like, just decide you're going to invest in that or not.
Kelly
Maybe I'll just wait for the next season of Mormon Wives to come out. Yeah, I'm watching Friday Night Lights, also eight seasons, also more dramatic. Yeah, I wasn't really into it, and now it's just kind of something like High Schoolers. No, I know, but it's just like. But you know what is so funny, actually? So when I watched it, when I tried starting it in high school, I obviously related to the high schoolers, and now that I watch it, there's, like, a lot of parents in the show, and so, like, I relate to the parents. Like, there's. It's about, like, their teenage daughter. You know, she's starting to get into things that teenagers might do and how you. She's, like, looking at photos of her daughter as a child, and, like, she can't believe that her daughter's growing up and, like, wanting to do these things. And I'm like, oh, my gosh, I'm. And then she punishes her, grounds her, and I'm like, I'm so Team mom right now. Like, I am relating to the parents on the show and, like, could not relate even less. The teenagers on the show.
Liz
Oh, that's so funny.
Kelly
Which is maybe, like, a good thing. It's like, then maybe if you haven't seen Friday Night Lights since you were in high school, maybe watch it now and you'll, like, see it with fresh eyes and, like, a new perspective, and it's like a brand new show.
Liz
Wow.
Kelly
Whoa. Maybe.
Liz
Wow, huh?
Kelly
Innovative.
Liz
So innovative.
Kelly
Okay, can I also talk about something else that I'm, like, obsessed with right now, please? I'm like. I'm like, you know, I love a deal, and I love to, like, find, like, coupons, which is something about me. So I've talked about this couponer that I like to follow, and she talked about this app, which I'm probably the last person coming to it, but it's called Ibotta, which I'd heard of, but I never downloaded it.
Liz
Pronounced Ibotta, not Ibotta.
Kelly
Ibotta.
Liz
Ibotta.
Kelly
I think it's like I bought a.
Liz
Like I. Oh, is it like that? Yeah, I bought a.
Kelly
Like I bought a I B O T T A. And they just have like all this cash back. So at places like your grocery store at Target. So anytime before I go shopping, I will just, you know, I'm running low on toilet paper, so I'm like, what kind of cash back can I get on certain brands of toilet paper? And then I'll be like, oh, cotton L, you'll get a dollar back if you buy it. And then at Target Circle, It's a buy one, get one, 20% off. So I bought four things of Cotton L today, got $4 back. Anyway, all that to be said, I've gotten $50 in cash back from using this app for like a couple of weeks. 50 bucks? 50 bucks for stuff I was already gonna buy.
Liz
50 bucks.
Kelly
50 bucks. I'm obsessed with it. I just, I like it. I, it gives me like, I get a, I get a rush. I like to see myself like getting those few extra dollars. Like, I just, I don't know.
Liz
And then you take that 50 bucks and you go buy something you'd never buy with it.
Kelly
Yeah. You know, or what?
Liz
Or I don't know.
Kelly
I don't know. It's just one of those things that like. I remember when we first got monetized on YouTube and we made like our first 40 bucks and it was like, Cal, we made 40 bucks off YouTube. It felt like the most money I could ever make off of something. And I just. Because like you got it out of nothing. Like, we invested nothing to make that 42. We just uploaded a video and it's.
Liz
Just like a lot.
Kelly
Huh?
Liz
We invested. But like, you make the video, you make the video.
Kelly
But like it was free. And then I don't know, it's just. Again, it's just those lips. Sometimes I'll get like a check and it's like, oh great. You know, and it's. Whatever it is and it just doesn't even faze me. But for some reason, these 50 bucks cash back that I never would have gotten otherwise unless I bought the friggin Cottonelle toilet paper. It feels like gold to me.
Liz
I understand that, you know.
Kelly
Yeah, you get a paycheck and you're just like. Sometimes you're just. It, it doesn't phase you in the same way that like this extra little 50 bucks does. I don't know, it's exciting and it's fun and it's something that's going on in my life. I bought a.
Liz
Something that's going on in my life is I am. I have two things that are like things that people did for, you know, decades, and I'm just now doing them again. And I have, I want to tell you what they are, okay. One of them obsessed with having cash. I'm such a cash girl now. And I just love, you know what I do? I go to the bank. I go to the bank and I would normally go to the bank, go to the atm and I'm like, no, you know what I want to do? I want a better variety of bills. And you guys know I spend so much time in my car. I love being in my car. Luckily, Libby is such a good car napper. So, like I'm looking for things to get out of the house without getting out of the car. Like, it's my favorite type of air. And I talk about that all the time. Hitting up your local bank teller to being like, hey, could I have, could you turn this, you know, $50 into a bunch of fives instead?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And now I have all these $5 bills and it's like so easy to just, you know, give a tip or pay cash for things. Like, I'm just liking cash. I like having cash.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And everyone else wants to go cashless. And I'm like, no, I think it's nice to have cash. And I'd started this new thing with the kids when I need them to burn some energy. Now the rule is if they can catch a chicken, they get a dollar.
Kelly
Oh, okay.
Liz
Yeah. So that's the type of allowance we have around here. Yeah.
Kelly
You know, I think it should be. I hate the places, I think it should be outlawed. The places that don't accept cash. What's up with that? Yeah, that's in the places, like no card only. It's like, what do you mean my physical currency is no good?
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
What are you talking about? I just don't think that should be allowed. But I'm with you.
Liz
Never, I've never been like, I truthfully have never been a cash girl. But now there's just something I just, I.
Kelly
Well, you said when you said having like school age kids, like they always need like a dollar for pizza day, dress down day. Like they always need a dollar for something.
Liz
And don't be scrambling, like, just go and get $50, $51 bills and just like put it like, you know, somewhere in your house.
Kelly
Here's what you should do. You should go and get download Ibotta. And then once you have $50, put it into your bank account and then go to the bank and get $50 cash. It'll feel great.
Liz
It'll be like the best money that you've ever spent.
Kelly
50 bucks.
Liz
And then go get a coffee.
Kelly
Well, when you're paying for a coffee and you gotta give $7 of your 50, then that feels like a lot. I'd rather swipe that one away.
Liz
No. What's interesting about me is I have easier time spending cash because to me, it's already gone. To me, it's already.
Kelly
It's already out of the bank account.
Liz
It's already out of the bank account. Like, to me, cash. I'm like, it's fine. I got like, I have an easier time spending cash. I don't know why. Okay. Another thing I've been doing. This is so embarrassing. I'm even gonna say this out loud.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I think I've been sleeping on hand washing.
Kelly
O. Kelly.
Liz
Hand washing dishes.
Kelly
Oh, hand washing dishes. I thought you meant washing your hands. Oh, no. And I'm like, oh, you better not say that.
Liz
No, no, no, no, no.
Kelly
Sorry.
Liz
Hand washing dishes.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I'm just. And don't. Don't get me wrong. Like, I mean, we're a family of six. Like, I'm. I have a dishwasher. My friend Ashley doesn't even have a dishwasher.
Kelly
What?
Liz
Yeah. You didn't know? She doesn't.
Kelly
I didn't know she didn't have a dishwasher.
Liz
Do they live in, like, super, like, do they live in, like, a. Like a historic home? Doesn't have a dishwasher. It's beautiful. It's just, like, historic. No dishwasher. And so I still like my dishwasher, but there are times where it's like, I'm making, like, lunch for myself in a bowl, and I have the audacity to, like, rinse the bowl and put on the other side of the sink and not just. And then wait for the magical time where the dishwasher's empty and I can reload it again.
Kelly
Like, dry it off and put it back.
Liz
Like, hand wash it, dry it and put it back.
Kelly
Yeah. Totally lazy.
Liz
Positive.
Kelly
Yeah, totally.
Liz
So I'm just, like, really kind of on my hand washing grind. I'd rather hand would like to be as well, 10 dishes than, like, I don't want to unload in the dishwasher. Is the by far. I don't remember what we said was the worst household chore. It's unloading the dishwasher.
Kelly
I think it's putting away laundry, but we'll just agree to disagree on that.
Liz
It's not because laundry is putting away laundry. You have to look at a laundry basket and, like, that's an eyesore. I don't. Dishes. Out of sight, out of mind. The things closed up when I unload it. It doesn't change my life at all. It looks the same.
Kelly
No. But I do feel, like, such a rush when I, like, open a dishwasher.
Liz
And it's always empty. Oh, my gosh.
Kelly
Feels so good.
Liz
I know. And Tyler, like, wonder, like, Tyler, do you want something nice for me? Try to unload the dishwasher.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
You know what I mean? And then ask for whatever you want.
Kelly
That is such. That is such my love language is an unloaded dishwasher.
Liz
Like, next time I go visit a new mom, I'm going to go to her dishwasher.
Kelly
Oh, that's so true.
Liz
Do you know what I mean? Sure. But anyway, back to hand washing. I'm into it. Hand washing dishes.
Kelly
Hand washing dishes. Just to clarify, Kel, I was, like, so nervous. Are you just talking about your chickens? And you'd be like, I'm into hand washing now. It's just very nervous.
Liz
No, we wash. We go through. I will say the amount of hand soap. I've noticed an uptick in my hand soap bills.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Because we're going through it. We had to stop. We had to stop. You know, I like the foam. I like a foaming hand soap. Soon.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
Yeah, it's a low lift luxury. I like a foamy hand soap. We had to simply stop with that in the mud room because I just cannot be putting a foaming, like, lavender scented hand soap every time George comes in from touching Leo. I'm going broke. We had to go. What's. What's the brand like? The little.
Kelly
I know. It's like, clear and it has, like a goldfish on it.
Liz
Yeah, whatever. That one is like, literally the cheapest hand soap. Save the nice stuff for when company comes over. Yeah, it's soft. So. Yeah, they had a Halloween one. I stocked up. And when those go on clearance, I mean, literally, like, I feel like we're doing like a bottle every two weeks. Like, I'm not even kidding.
Kelly
Well, you can buy it in bulk. Maybe you should try that. And then you just refill your little plastic one.
Liz
Seems like someone's worked to refill it, but. Yeah, you're right, you're right.
Kelly
I don't know. See what's on Ibotta. That's what I would do.
Liz
Okay, well, are we ready for what do we have next? Advice.
Kelly
We have industry news.
Liz
No, we don't. Because that was my fun little game.
Kelly
Oh, okay. That certain cars existed. Okay, well, we do have an advice question that we could do. And actually this advice question also included a dish to drive through that I thought sounded good. Okay. This comes from Jen. Hi. Kelly and Liz. We have a unique situation. We adopted my 13 year old nephew in July. We have had him since he was five, but finally finalized our adoption. Congrats. And we have a two year old still rear facing. We plan to rear face as long as possible and to have one more baby for sure. Currently we drive a 2019 Ford Expedition Max. I'm thinking of training it in. I love the car but we've had some minor issues and I think it might be too big for us. Also my husband can't park it even though he flies airplanes for a living. I'm looking into a 23 to 25 Honda Pilot or maybe an Odyssey. I wanted to hear your thoughts on what we should do and if we should trade it in for something else or what your recommendation might be. I really want something that's more reliable and isn't a land yacht.
Liz
Okay. 13 year old, 2 year old wants one more kid.
Kelly
Yes. Okay, 2 year old.
Liz
What year is their expedition?
Kelly
It's a 2019.
Liz
19 was a bad year for the expedition. Like if you go on consumer reports, like it's shockingly lower than the rest of them.
Kelly
Oh.
Liz
So yeah, I think it out of your expedition.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I think, and you know, I agree that sounds especially an Expedition Max. That sounds like a lot. And I also think like you'll have a 13 year old okay. In three years. Like you'll have a 16 year old and two years you have a 15 year old. Like are they, are you gonna want them to like practice driving on your car? Maybe drive your car one day? I don't think any 15 year old needs to be driving an Expedition Max. Like that would be huge. That'd be so hard.
Kelly
So she liked the Odyssey or the pilot?
Liz
Yeah, I'm fine with, I'm fine with either. Did she say what year?
Kelly
Or she wanted to go new 23 to 25 pilot.
Liz
Oh, okay. I. This is really hard. This is really hard. Part of me is lean Odyssey because I do think you'll have a jump scare from Expedition Max to Honda Pilot in terms of space. Yeah, I think you will be like where and adding another kid. You know what I mean? So like you're going to get a smaller car and add another kid and like cut your cargo space like literally in half. I'd probably go Odyssey for that reason. Okay.
Kelly
And do you think if she's like, no, I'm very much like aware of what it's going to look like. Do you think a pilot would work for her situation?
Liz
Well, I think the biggest hesitation is, you know, I don't know when you want to have another kid, but if you want to rear face for as long as possible, you're probably very likely going to have two rear facing kids. And then the Odyssey's the got G.
Kelly
O A T. Yeah. Okay.
Liz
The goat for that. Like two rear facing kids and a pilot's like, then how do you access the third row where you're getting the bench. Like a 13 year old squeezing between two car seats and a bench for everyday use. That doesn't sound fun.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So I would do, you know, two rear facing seats. Magic slide, third row access for the 13 year old. Stick them back there.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Bada bing, bada boom.
Kelly
Bada bing, bada boom.
Liz
Get a Odyssey. Final answer.
Kelly
Okay. I also want to share her. Ditch the drive thru. Cause I thought it sounded really good and it's sometimes just one of those things that maybe we've even talked about before. But sometimes you just need a reminder. But I don't think we've done this.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
My favorite dish to drive through is barbecue chicken sliders. I put chicken breast in the crock pot and put equal parts barbecue sauce and Italian dressing. About one cup of each. Cook on low all day or high. If you ran out of time, serve on Hawaiian roll sliders with coleslaw. I just get our grocery store pre made bag and mix it together. All my family eats this and it's a fan favorite. I'm gluten free so if I don't have gluten free bread, I serve over baked potato or sweet potato barbecue chicken sliders. That sounds great.
Liz
It does sound great. Barbecue is such a, such an underrated flavor profile and maybe that's just the midwestern dentist. But like I agree like barbecue so good it gives buffalo but in a much more kid friendly kind of way.
Kelly
Yes. Yeah, it's so true. Just as easy as buffalo but more kid friendly and like makes great leftovers. So just wanted to bring that would.
Liz
Probably freeze well too. And then you just pull that cooked chicken. It's a good idea. I'm going to bring a dish to the drive through too because I don't know if you saw recently I did make another pot of soup.
Kelly
Oh, well, we do have to record two podcasts. You just want to save it.
Liz
Nope, I don't. Okay.
Kelly
So I just find another one. Okay.
Liz
Yep. Because by that time, this is going to be. I'll be on to my next pot of soup, because we're recording ahead. Wow. So I think if we ever do another cooking challenge, I want to do a ground beef challenge, because Elizabeth and I, you know, we got a quarter cow, and we have so much ground beef. You would not believe how much ground beef comes out of a quarter cow. Like, so much ground beef. And I love ground beef, and I am always looking for recipes to do with it. So I was looking up soup recipes with ground beef. I was maybe gonna try, like, a taco soup, because I normally make chicken tortilla soup, but I was like, what if I did it with ground beef? Like, I make Tacoma with ground beef. Why can't I turn that into a soup? But then I decided not to do that, so maybe that'll be our next one.
Kelly
Okay, we're taking the cedar Groot.
Liz
This is the scenic root. And then I came across a stuffed pepper soup. Now, I love a stuffed pepper.
Kelly
Who does?
Liz
What's not to love? Turn it into a soup. Superior way to enjoy that flavor profile. We'll never make stuffed peppers again. Why the extra step? Throw it in some soup. It's delicious. Gluten, dairy free. W. All my kids ate it. W. Amazing leftovers.
Kelly
W. Okay, so how do you make it?
Liz
So you take some ground brown ground beef. I feel like, to me, when I think stuff el peppers, I think green peppers. So I did two green peppers, one yellow pepper, and the color of it all. It's so beautiful. And some onion and some garlic. You know, you. You marry all of that together. And then crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef stock, or bone broth. I like to use bone broth, a little extra protein, extra flav salt, pep, your spices of choice. And then you add in some rice. Now, here's what you have to watch with rice, because I made this mistake before. You're adding, like, your cup of rice, and you're like, surely I should add more rice, because it, like, disappeared. And, like, this is a big family. And I'm adding uncooked rice. I shouldn't make that. I'm adding uncooked rice. Rice expands and you forget that when you're making a soup. Yeah, So I didn't measure because I don't measure when I cook. And it normally works out okay for me, but I Came back, and I had not made soup. I had made rice. So then I had to add. So then I had to add a whole other thing of beef broth to make it sound.
Kelly
Oh, my gosh.
Liz
To make it soup again. No, like, there wasn't a piece of. There wasn't liquid to be. There was, like, barely any liquid left.
Kelly
Soda.
Liz
It was rice. It was rice. It was. I needed then a bell pepper to put the mixture into, but I wanted a soup.
Kelly
Yeah. Okay.
Liz
So I had to just add more beef broth.
Kelly
Okay. That's a very good note. Thank you for clarifying.
Liz
And that's my dish to the drive thru, which is an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut. So we just gave you two recipes for this week, and guess what? Double it and freeze it. Double it and give it to the next person. Be neighborly. Go drop it off at someone's house.
Kelly
Yeah. And unload their dishwasher while you're at it.
Liz
And unload their dishwasher. It is so hard to unload someone else's dishwasher.
Kelly
No, it's so true. You really can't do it. You also can't fold someone else's laundry.
Liz
So I think. And I wouldn't. Because, like, what if you accidentally picked up some of their husband's clothes like that?
Kelly
That's what I'm saying. Like, you can't.
Liz
But isn't it crazy when you, like, go to someone's house and you, like, open up where the silver drawer is supposed to be, and it's, like, on the other end of the room and you're like, that's crazy.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And I think that you and I. I think this is what you do. You set up your kitchen how, like, your childhood kitchen was set up to the best way that you can. Like, where your different drawers would go.
Kelly
Mm. Yeah, I know. I need to. I need to get your. Those organizing girls to come over to my house. My house is such a so messed.
Liz
Up to be organized. Stl.
Kelly
So okay. To be organized. Xl. Yes. Thank you. Okay, Kel. Well, since it is November, we are doing Blake's Besties at the end of every episode. So Blake's Besties is where we wear. Share the stories of. Of infant. So October was Infant and pregnancy Awareness. Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month. And we moved Blake's Besties to November. We talked this on our last episode. So we're just going to read some stories of babies who were gone too soon. And so if you don't want to listen. That's what the rest of this episode is going to be. So if you want to not listen to it, see ya. If you want to keep listening, we are going to share two stories right now. So this comes from Jasmine and she says hi Kelly and Liz. Sadly, I'm writing in for the second year in a row for the Blake's Bestie segment. Hopefully my email thread is visible so you can see the one I sent last year about baby pain. I delivered our Rainbow Babies on March 1, 2024. Two girls shocked to say the least. We found out about halfway through our pregnancy about a birth defect with twin A. She had not be. She would not survive long after birth. We got to spend three hours with our beautiful girl, Quinn, middle name Jasmine after me, her mother and our baby be. We named Navy, middle name Quinn after her big sister. So we had Quinn, Jasmine and Navy Quinn. Carrying twins for 36 weeks was an experience that I will never forget. So cool. So fun. So heavy. They wrestled around in there like you would not believe. Every week I did. Didn't know how they could stay in any longer because I felt like I was about to bust. But the twins were flipping around like they were having a king size. Like they were in a king size bed. Lol. We miss our angel Quinn every day and we'll make sure her memory lives on through her big brother and little sister. Thank you guys for bringing awareness and helping people remember the good times that went along with the bad. Remembering all the little ones that were taken too soon. Also, congrats on your two precious girls. Love, Jasmine.
Liz
Wow.
Kelly
Yeah, that was really sad. Also, I love those names, Quinn and Navy.
Liz
The names are incredible and I really enjoyed hearing about how like the girls interacted like in the womb together because like, you can just kind of hold on to that as like the memories of, you know, them playing together.
Kelly
And yeah, they did get to. That's.
Liz
Yeah, they did get to. And like that was. That was a really beautiful part. So I'm happy that she included that.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. This comes from Melanie. Hey gal pals. I wanted to share about my sweet Micah, who was the sweetest, chillest, most scrumptious baby boy. He was born with half a functioning heart but was filled with the most love while his life was taken far too soon. At 259 days old, I will forever feel his embrace. When I held him, he was chubby, red cheeks and feathery soft hair and the most beautiful blue eyes. He left a mark on all who knew him and is missed so terribly. Much. Thank you for creating a space for moms like myself who want a chance to talk about their babies whenever given the chance. Melanie, I totally know what she means when she says feathery hair. Like, that's such a good description of like, of like a newborn's head where they just get like a little wispy hair.
Kelly
Totally. So if you want to write in and share your stories, you can do so by writing to a hello@thecarmomofficial.com all right. And that's it. And with that, that is our episode. So thank you so much for listening to the Carpool podcast, and we will talk to you next time.
Liz
See ya.
