Um, I think I just won my taxes. Yeah, I just switched to H and R Block in about one minute. All I had to do was drag and drop last year's return into H and R Block and bam. My information is automatically there so I don't have to go digging around for all my old papers to switch. Nope. Sounds like we just leveled up our tax game. Switching to HR block is easy. Just drag and drop your last return.
Liz
It's better with block.
Kelly
Welcome to the Carpool podcast with Kelly. People are centering themselves in things they don't need to be centered on. Just because you made a joke, I don't need to then say, well, I knew that joke two years ago. Like, what's wrong with me and Liz?
Liz
I'm actually like keeping marriages alive if you think about it, because mine and my husband's love language, one of them is sending each other reels. And so everyone, you're welcome. Your mom time off starts now.
Kelly
Welcome back to the Carbille podcast with Kelly and Liz. It's an exciting day over here.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
First of all, we have a show for you. Yeah, a big one. If that agenda General banter dumps. Ditch the drive through advice, industry news.
Liz
Not in that order because it's never been in that order.
Kelly
But oh my gosh, you're right. Not in that order.
Liz
Not in that order. But we will cover all of those topics.
Kelly
First topic to cover though is my new press card this week. It is such an underrated mom car. People are sleeping on it, kind of. Myself included. And, well, it just got redesigned this year.
Liz
Okay, we love that.
Kelly
And it's the Buick enclave. Now let's back up for a second.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Buick is a child of General Motors. So General Motors is the parent company, gm. They have Chevy, gmc, which is confusing. Cadillac and Buick. Yeah. GM is the mom. Those are her four kids. Okay.
Liz
Wow. Not GM being a mom to four.
Kelly
This mom.
Liz
Trust me, you and GM have so many confidence.
Kelly
Trust me. I say this mom has favorites, and this mom does not. Buick is just. What is it? Who are they? You know, they've been stamped as, like, the old people car for so long, and they are kind of in the rebellion era.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
They said not anymore. Yeah, not anymore, we're not. And they came up with that genius marketing of basically it's just people being like, what kind of car is that? And like, oh, my gosh, that's a Buick. Like, the point being, like, you don't know. Buick's not who you thought she was. You never heard of a Glow up until you've heard of Buick. And I'm standing by this.
Liz
No, and it's actually, it's so smart because it's kind of like they're kind of doing like a dig at their own company. Like, I can't believe that's. That's a Buick. But yeah, it's a Buick. It's a dig, but it's a backhanded compliment to themselves. To themselves.
Kelly
So anyway, when General Motors decided to redesign the Traverse, you know, they have to be equal across their four children. Maybe they don't have favorites. So maybe the world has favorites, but GM doesn't.
Liz
Well, I think that would be. I think that's how most mothers are.
Kelly
We'll have to ask. So anyway, they all have a. They all have a mid size thorough SUV. Okay. So Chevy's is the Traverse, GMC's is the Acadia, Cadillacs is the XT6, and Buick's was the enclave. So all of their babies are having a glow up this year. Everyone's gagged over the Traverse. We still are. I mean, the Traverse was excellent.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And all of her siblings are following in her counterpart. So the Buick enclave redesign is stunning.
Liz
Kelly picked it up right before I was already down here getting ready to record, and she went to go pick it up, and she came down here with her jaw on the floor.
Kelly
Couldn't believe it's my first time seeing it in person because we haven't gone to the auto shows or the first drives.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
So this was my. And I guess I already haven't seen.
Liz
Any pictures of it.
Kelly
Haven't seen one on the road. I think I'm gonna blindfold you.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
I think this could be good content. I. I think I'm going to blindfold you and get your first impression.
Liz
I feel like that will look like you're giving me a car.
Kelly
I'm not.
Liz
Yeah. No.
Kelly
Oh, maybe we won't. I just want. I think I want your very raw Honest reaction.
Liz
Maybe we'll just post on the carpool then for, like, an inside joke for people who get it.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Like, had it be their situation.
Kelly
You know what else? It's silver.
Liz
I don't normally like silver cars.
Kelly
Oh, you'll like the silver. What do you mean you don't normally like silver cars?
Liz
I don't normally like silver cars. That's the end of the sentence. I think that they've been doing a better job at silver. Maybe it's like the old silver, like the 2015 silver.
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
I don't like.
Kelly
I think it's also how it's accessorized.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
Is it black trim or is it silver trim?
Liz
Yeah, I think silver. I think silver might be having to come back because, like, I think more people are wearing silver jewelry and, like, gold was the only name on everyone's lips.
Kelly
Well, can we just not have a metal go in and out of style again? Is that too much to ask?
Liz
Totally. Totally.
Kelly
And now skinny jeans are back, and I'm not participating in this millennial trope of, like, they were never out. I'm not. Don't even. Don't even send me the conversation.
Liz
We've already talked about this, and my stance on it was, I think that with skinny jeans coming back, I don't think that any other types of jeans are going to be going out. I think we've all just come to accept that all the jeans have gone through a cycle and wear whatever jeans fit your body. Wear whatever jeans look best on you. We've all like flare jeans. Kendrick Lamar officially brought flare jeans back, back, back, back again in case they were ever going out.
Kelly
Jeans were so cute.
Liz
They were. I liked his entire outfit.
Kelly
I liked his outfit so much. Let's just see if anyone in this day and age has, like, found who.
Liz
Makes the jeans, because I do feel like they. The jeans were the star of the show. I liked his entire outfit. I know it was very.
Kelly
We're not going to find this on the pod, but no, it was very cute.
Liz
It was very real. It was very normal. He had those shoes.
Kelly
I think those, like, Pumas.
Liz
They look they. I don't actually know if they are Pumas, but they. That's what they look like. It's just giving very 90s.
Kelly
No, it's not, Liz. It's not 90s. It's like 2004, 2005, 2004. Because I had pumas in grade school.
Liz
Totally. Anyway, I like it. I was into it.
Kelly
And Grayson just bought a pair of Pumas and, you know she's always on the trends. Like, those are the new, like, sneaker that. Everyone's getting our Pumas.
Liz
And that's. Yeah. Wow.
Kelly
How's Skechers doing? I mean, they had a Martha Stewart super bowl ad. Is Skechers just bleeding money?
Liz
I didn't. I didn't see that one.
Kelly
Oh, it was hysterical. It was hysterical. Martha Stewart Skechers. And I feel like they. Oh, and I think they have Snoop Dogg sometimes, too, because I think, like, those who just go together.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
They might not. I don't know. But bottom line is where Skechers getting their money from? I wonder who their parent company is.
Liz
Well, you know, I think Skechers probably still has a pretty good market on, like, the comfort. On the COVID comfort front.
Kelly
Do you think?
Liz
I don't know.
Kelly
Looks like they're owned by themselves anyway.
Liz
Yeah, I don't know. You know what else was. Something we noticed at the super bowl commercials was that Tom Brady is just everywhere.
Kelly
He's an.
Liz
He's in everything.
Kelly
I looked at your husband, and I'm like, does Tom Brady need money?
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Why?
Liz
He's in everything.
Kelly
He's an ads. He's. And I get, like, he's football, and like, this is a football sport. But then, like, Netflix is doing a roast on him and, like, just to give. Just to give, like, precedent. It's like last year, Tyler and I went to a Capital One event, a small Capital One event, and it was a fireside chat with Tom Brady. I wasn't even allowed to post about it. Yeah, I hope I can now. I guess I'm going to. And I'm like, that was such a fun event, but, like, I can't believe Tom Brady flew to Vegas Peak to a bunch of dealers. I mean, I was in it for coin for sure, but, like, does he need money?
Liz
And also, are there any non competes? Because he was in multiple commercials.
Kelly
Is there any non competes?
Liz
He might. He clearly doesn't sign. He clearly doesn't sign non competes.
Kelly
But that is true. It's like, imagine, like, if you want a celebrity in your super bowl commercial, I would imagine you probably, like, want to only have, like, that's the big thing.
Liz
Tom Brady.
Kelly
Yeah, but then Tom Brady's in, like, multiple other commercials. Like, he's. He's. Even Tom Brady can lose the sparkle.
Liz
It's. It's tiresome. Like, okay, here. No, it's actually not a very good marketing campaign. Because when I say Post Malone, what brand are you associating with? Right? You say Tom Brady. I don't know he's been in. He was in a multiples. I don't know.
Kelly
Whoever has the check. I'm telling you, the man.
Liz
You said Martha Stewart. You said Skechers.
Kelly
Interesting.
Liz
He's losing his. Like, I don't recognize him for anything, you know?
Kelly
Anyway.
Liz
Anyway, that's all the takes I have on.
Kelly
No, I don't have on.
Liz
On the Super Bowl.
Kelly
I don't have a lot of. I'm not gonna be. I don't have a ton of takes. I thought it was fine. I didn't hate the halftime show as much as everybody else. I don't know if people didn't like it. I just think rap is a hard genre to do at a Super bowl because the audio is tough and, like, the whole point of rap is, like, it's fun to hear every. So the audio's tough.
Liz
And wasn't it last year where they had a bunch of, like. It was like the hip hop one.
Kelly
Where they had, like, a bunch of years ago. I didn't like that one.
Liz
What was last year?
Kelly
Usher. And Usher was good.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I also. And this is not a nod to Kendrick. I think you have to be. I like when they dance, too. I like when they dance and change their outfits.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
I just wanted it to be Sabrina Carpenter. I just want to. I want a pop star on the stage. That's just me.
Liz
I would like to see Bruno Mart. Has he ever done it?
Kelly
Yeah, he has. Yeah. I would like to see Post Malone. But he's not a pop star, I'm telling you. I just think I like when it's pop stars.
Liz
I would like to see Post Malone as well.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I feel like I need just, like, a list of all of them.
Kelly
Well, you want to pull up? Yeah. I mean, no one holds a flame to Katy Perry, but that's.
Liz
That's what I'm.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
No, I. Oh, okay. Okay, okay. No. So last year was Usher with special guests, and he had a bunch of special guests. Then Rihanna. Hers was good.
Kelly
Hers was good. She was pregnant, too.
Liz
Yes. Then it was Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar. Oh, okay. Kendrick lamar was in 2022 again, Mary J. Blige. Then it was the weekend. 2020 was Shakira. Jennifer Lopez. Bad Buny, Bad Bunny, Jay Balvin.
Kelly
That was iconic.
Liz
2019 was Maroon 5. Travis Scott, Big boy. Oh, Bruno Mars did do it in 2014. Beyonce was 2013.
Kelly
Katy Perry was 2015. Y. Iconic.
Liz
Iconic, yeah. Post Malone. Sabrina Carpenter.
Kelly
Well, that's just who.
Liz
Taylor Swift.
Kelly
You almost can't be A. Well, Taylor Swift couldn't do it for a long time because it was like the Pepsi halftime show and she's with Coke. Oh.
Liz
And actually, I don't know.
Kelly
There's something there.
Liz
I actually don't think she'll ever be able to do it. I think that she's just been too stained by the. By the peop. By the football crowd. The football people really don't like her. The men really don't like her.
Kelly
And she probably doesn't like them. I wouldn't like them. Booing her was out of control. You guys are crazy.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
That was crazy.
Liz
I know. It's like, why?
Kelly
And it's also like, they're like, they're.
Liz
Upset that she took all of this attention. She didn't do anything but just like, show up to support her boyfriend.
Kelly
And this is when it's like, do you guys want women in sports or not?
Liz
No.
Kelly
Like, do you want women to care about sports or like, do you not? Because, like, you got our pop star and I'm not even a swiftie. But it's like, then you got their girl there and then you booed her.
Liz
Right? They put Taylor on the big screen. She gets booed. Travis goes to her concert. They put him on the big screen. Everyone cheers.
Kelly
And that's men versus women.
Liz
Double standard.
Kelly
That's men versus wine.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Anyway, enough about that. Let's get into our dumps. Because I have, like, I don't. I'm trying to come up with a good segue.
Liz
Speaking of things that. No, I got nothing. Let's move on.
Kelly
Speaking of men versus women. Focusing on the women for a second. So my sister in law, we had a birthday party for my niece this weekend, which we were road tripping to, and she had the most beautiful, like, decor. And it was all inspired by this table runner she bought. So first of all, just as for table runners, because I don't always have the headspace for a whole cloth. And also, like, I have a big kitchen table and like, I don't want to, like, then my kid. I don't want that. But a table runner is a wow moment without the drama.
Liz
And it's smaller, so you can store them more easily.
Kelly
Like, there's not a bad thing to say. And hers didn't even like, go the whole length of the table. It was just like in the middle of the table. And it was this like blue and coral Jaguars. Like, it was like a cute, like grand millennial print. Like, you can probably picture it. And then she had ribbons that matched and like, it was like, that was the color scheme. And I'm like, oh, my gosh, your table runner is so cute. Where is it from? And she goes, it's from Spoonflower. Have you ever heard of them? And then I said, you know, I do believe they've come across my desk in the format of a targeted ad. But then I go on Spoonflower, and I'm obsessed. I'm obsessed with Spoonflower. So you think it's just wallpaper, but then you click on the wallpaper and then it goes, oh. Also available in literally any other printed medium you could ever want. Throw blanket, sheets, tablecloth, cocktail napkins, Euro sham. Like all.
Liz
They do it all.
Kelly
They're girls that just do it all. And I'm obsessed.
Liz
So.
Kelly
So Spoonflower, it just has all of these amazing cute little fabrics that then you can just turn into whatever you want. So I don't have my tablescape. I don't have. I don't have a tablecloth table runner. I don't have a cloth napkin to my name. Don't tell mom. But I'm gonna order a table runner and then I'm gonna get like, not matching, but like coordinating cloth napkins. You do placemats or placemats. And Liz, you can do anything. Yeah, it's just cool. I was just having fun with the prints and I just like love that you can get it in whatever you want it to be. I could spend hours on this website. Hours.
Liz
Yeah, this is it also, I mean, I haven't pulled anything up to see a price, but I do imagine that this is like a more affordable way to decorate.
Kelly
No, I think it's pretty expensive.
Liz
Is it?
Kelly
Well, let's give you. Let me give some reference. I think it depends on what you're getting. A tape. Like, what do you think a table runner should go for?
Liz
I think a table runner is like 60 bucks.
Kelly
Yeah, that feels good. Because it's like. I mean, I think that's expensive, but like that, that's my fancy thing. $54.
Liz
Okay. Yeah. Maybe it's not that affordable, but I.
Kelly
Think if someone else has another table runner, I just, I'm saying I liked the prints and I just, I want to be a girl who like my mother in law puts tablecloths out for like dinners, and I'm not gonna do that, but I would like to put a table runner out.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
With a candlestick.
Liz
Totally use this candle.
Kelly
Just everyone registered for. No, I don't have candlesticks either.
Liz
You know what my sister in law did is she Thrifted a bunch of.
Kelly
That's what I've been trying to do, but I haven't had any success yet.
Liz
It's very, very cute.
Kelly
Yeah, that sounds cute.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
That was the one thing on my dump. Do you have anything on your dump or should I just keep going?
Liz
Oh, well, we did. We were discussing earlier about wheels on the bus.
Kelly
Oh, yeah. In your viral. Your. Your original thought.
Liz
Okay, you. You keep claiming that you're not being a just weight girl and you're being a. It's not a just weight, but it's something in the same. The same timeline of. Obviously it's just. You idiot.
Kelly
No, here's. Girl, before you're a mom, you may, like, maybe like funny. Like parenting means scroll across your desk and you ignore them. And you said this.
Liz
No, you said this.
Kelly
Like, no. And when you first had. You know, then when James got a little older, like, then you started laughing at the fun.
Liz
Yes.
Kelly
At the funny parentage.
Liz
Things become relevant. As things become relevant to you, you think they're funny. So anyway, I made this post on Wheels on the Bus because I think we can all agree that it's absolutely asinine that the mommy on the bus goes, shusha, shush, and the daddy on the bus says, I love you. I think we've all had the conversation. Our husbands have always been like. Like, we've all been through this. What I did was I created a real. Outlining it and. And it. And it performed well.
Kelly
No, of course. But my point was I think it's fun for me. Yeah, you're right. I mean, this is me on my high horse. Let me on here. That's fine. I don't care. I earned it. Get on it. I've earned it. Here I am looking down at you and thinking, yeah, like, that's not a new joke. Like my. Like, I've made that joke. And now here we are, tears later, it cycles through the new people who are becoming moms. And now you guys think things are funny too.
Liz
Mm.
Kelly
It's beautiful. It's the circle of life.
Liz
It's a circle of. It's the circle of life. And I just feel like I owed it to, as a content creator myself to just, like, put it on my feed because, like, someone has to post about it so that way everyone can send it to their husbands and say, lol. Remember when we talked about this? Like, I'm actually, like, keeping marriages alive. If you think about it, because you're mine and my husband's love language. One of them is sending each Other reels. And so everyone, you're welcome.
Kelly
Oh, hey, that laugh just reminded me we didn't address my raspy.
Liz
Yeah, sorry. Kelly lost her voice somehow.
Kelly
Not sure. But that was my.
Liz
So Kelly's a raspy, raspy girl.
Kelly
Like, another example is Elizabeth called me the other day and she's like, hey, hot take. Walmart has better kids clothes than Target. And I said, that's not like I've seen the reels. Like, we've been through this. Well, I feel as though we're in two different generations. Yeah. You know.
Liz
No, so true. It's the same. It's the same thing with the. With the Pumas. And you're like, when Now Grayson's buying Pumas. You're like, well, I had Pumas back in 2004.
Kelly
Exactly.
Liz
And now you're doing the same thing. You're like, well, I saw the Wheels on the Bus song back in 2020.
Kelly
And it's just this. You know what it is? You know what I really boil it down to?
Liz
What?
Kelly
People are centering themselves in things they don't need to be centered in. I don't need to. Just because you made a joke, I don't need to then say, well, I knew that joke two years ago. Like, what's wrong with me?
Liz
Oh, really? You're talking about Wheels on the Bus. Name three other songs. Like you're.
Kelly
You know.
Liz
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kelly
That's so interesting.
Liz
That's so interesting. We're learning a lot.
Kelly
I'm centering myself in Puma shoes.
Liz
In Puma shoes.
Kelly
Next thing on my dumpling. Okay, so we talked about my new press car. And press cars are. They're. They're. Honestly, every manufacturer treats their press cars a little different. So one thing, I get a lot of Nissan press cars. Get a lot of Nissan press cars. And I just had. And some. I'm very excited about some. It's like, great. My fourth Altima this year.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
You know what I mean? But this was the new Nissan Armada, so this was very exciting. And they sent me. Nissan always sends me, like, a little press kit while I have the loan, being like, hey, hope you're enjoying it. Like, here are some things we want you to talk about. And I don't ever talk about them. Yeah. Because they're not relevant. I don't even know who. And I'm not knocking them.
Liz
But they.
Kelly
Send me this about the Armada. And here's the opening line. Primed for off road adventures and equipped with advanced safety technologies to make every journey more connected. Tackle the great Outdoors with The all new 2025 Armada Pro 4X featuring all terrain tires. And it's just like you guys. I installed four car seats and drove it to daycare.
Liz
I. You can go.
Kelly
You know we're gonna say the same thing. We're aligned. We're gonna say and we're centering ourselves. I'm centering myself in this press release.
Liz
We are so centering ourselves in this press release. But I also think we're centering the majority of America if you think about it too. And the fact that it has to be such a small percentage of our population that actually goes off roading, yet every manufacturer has to have an off roading version of multiple vehicles.
Kelly
I'm so tired and we talk about it all the time.
Liz
I'm sick. I'm honestly sick of talking about it. But it keeps coming up.
Kelly
Where do people go? I've been so for real right now. Where are people going? Off roading. Where are you taking your sixty thousand dollar car off roading?
Liz
You're sit. And if you are an off roader, would you consider a Nissan?
Kelly
I need to get an off. Are there professional offer?
Liz
Well, Doug goes off. Doug demuro goes offroading. But I don't think we can get him back on the podcast. I think, I think we're like a.
Kelly
One shot have been shooted.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But I feel like if you're an off roader like you're driving a Jeep.
Liz
Totally, totally. Or their tracks Ford. Like you're just not driving a Nissan Ikea.
Kelly
And are there tracks that you go. And if you, if you are every all the time. Are you living in the off road? Like it's just. I, I can't believe they can't. Maybe they just like need someone like us to like sell the simple. But like I'm just all lathered up that you guys finally put the second row on tracks. Yeah, that's the press release.
Liz
Yeah, that's the press.
Kelly
Because now your third row has leg room.
Liz
Yeah, yeah. Not the now you can go off roading.
Kelly
I don't give a rip that you added a Pro 4X trim.
Liz
Yeah, yeah.
Kelly
I care that now with all terrain tires three set. There's three tether anchors in the third row.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
Or even if by. Oh Kelly, you're making about the car seats. Okay, fine. Then like let's talk about just what the car is going to be used for. I don't know here nor there. Except off roading.
Liz
Except.
Kelly
Except way over there.
Liz
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kelly
Okay. Last thing on my Dump is. I. I wonder if you ever feel like this or if anyone ever feels like this. And this is, like, such a. I don't know if I'm able to articulate it properly, but I have a lot of food in my pantry, but nothing to eat. Like, I've just. I've got the wrong groceries right now. I bought one too many things to use for one recipe. And, like, it just didn't go down.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Downhill. And I'm like, not simply not going to spend more money at the grocery store. I was like, we have got to, like, get through some of the stuff this week. And I do this ever. If you follow me for Instagram on a while. You know, I do this every once in a while. Like, I just do not grocery shop for, like, 10 days straight, except for, like, a gallon of milk.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And I just clean.
Liz
Clean things out.
Kelly
Clean random things out. And my family, we are so in our, like, gray era.
Liz
Gray.
Kelly
Like, we're great. Sometimes it's, oh, grazing. Sometimes we're grazing.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
And the blessing is, like, we do have a freezer full of meat. So it's like, make something work.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Like, there is food to eat here. Like, I'm just being the epitome of, like, there's food at home and there is food at home.
Liz
I think you're just living the reality of an ingredient household as an adult. Whereas, like, an ingredient household as a kid was like, oh, I just have to eat, like, chocolate chips and peanut butter as, like, a dessert. Whereas an ingredient household as an adult is like, oh, I fear I must create a meal and cook.
Kelly
So I'm really going to be very mindful about. I want to, like. I want to fill a trash can with, like, empty packages.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Or a recycling bin.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But, I mean, I think I was gassing up ambitious kitchen because I had to buy this Israeli couscous for this one soup, and now I've got half a thing of Israelis.
Liz
Yeah. So you got to figure out something.
Kelly
But I don't have the rest of us to make the soup.
Liz
Yeah. So you gotta. You gotta take a Google search and figure out what to do with the Israeli couscous. Yeah.
Kelly
And it also, I fear it's not enough to feed my whole family, because, see, that's the other problem.
Liz
You got a big family.
Kelly
I got a big family. And they're eaters. I mean, Libby doesn't eat. But I'm telling you, like, George and Fred, they put away what I put away. I cannot believe how much they eat.
Liz
And Tyler is Tyler's a bottomless pit.
Kelly
Tyler. It's, like, embarrassing sometimes.
Liz
He could enter a hot dog eating contest.
Kelly
He could totally enter a hot dog eating contest. Like, I sometimes will go over to people's houses and, like, I feel the need to, like, offer them money and be like, I'm so sorry. Like, if Tyler's sister has us over for dinner, like, she. I'm like, do you mean, like, pitching, like, for, like, the meat? Like, I know. He ate so much. I'm so sorry. Like, we tried to feed it before we came.
Liz
Like, we all go out to dinner, like, as a family. Like, Tyler's eating everyone's leftovers. Not all the time, but he has eaten. Like, if we go out for sushi, especially, oh, you're not gonna eat the rest of that rule. He'll. He's gonna eat it.
Kelly
He's a bottomless pet.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
All to say is I fear as though I'm going to maybe have to be making, like, two dinners.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But the key word is, like, we're going for average dinners. Like, I'm just. I'm going back to basics. We're just. It's. It's must goes for a week. I'm really not. I Not grocery shopping. I'm doing muskos.
Liz
So tonight you need to be posting because I actually love to see what you end up coming up with. I. This is kind of the kind of content I really like to.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Observe.
Kelly
Well, today's dinner, I have, like, a real meal.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Because you sent me home with all those potatoes. Thank you.
Liz
Oh, yeah.
Kelly
So I'm making Trader Joe's frozen potatoes, Polish sausage. I'm gonna add broccoli, and that's what we're having for chimichurri. Chimichurri.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But, like, tomorrow, let me just ask you, like, let's play chopped for a second.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Here's what I have. First of all, I. I'm swimming in ground pork.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
But, like, don't say egg roll in a bowl because I don't have anything else.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Got ground pork. I've got spaghetti noodles. I don't have pasta sauce because I was gonna take half ground pork, half ground beef, make meatballs. I don't have any sauce.
Liz
How do you not have any sauce?
Kelly
No idea. That's what I'm saying. I'm. I'm random central.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
And I obviously got the Israeli couscous.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
So is there something with ground pork and Israeli couscous?
Liz
I. I would say certainly.
Kelly
And then is it just barbecue?
Liz
Oh.
Kelly
You don't have to decide right now. But I'm just saying, like, that's. It's not as simple as, like, I think people think this always sounds fun. And it's like, yeah, like, I'm just gonna make it work. Or like I'm gonna make a frittata and just throw all my veggies in there. And it's like, no, mine is kind of next level.
Liz
I. I don't even really know what you can make with ground pork. I'm thinking you might have to do.
Kelly
This says easy ground pork stir fry.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Let's see if I have it. I have rice. Don't have mushrooms. But you can. But you can sub. Don't have carrots.
Liz
That's. Okay. That doesn't sound necessary. I think it's more about the.
Kelly
I've got the sauce, I've got the things to make the sauce, and I've got the rice, so I could do. I bet I have frozen stir fry vegetables somewhere in my life, though. I bet I have one in my freezer.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Okay. Easy ground pork stir fry. And that's your ditch at the drive thru. Actually, it's not. I have what I'm gonna make when I go back to the grocery store for the first time.
Liz
But do you have any. So I know you don't have any sauce, but do you have, like, tomato?
Kelly
I do. I have a giant jar of crushed tomatoes.
Liz
Okay, well, I just found a ground pork chili recipe as well that I think you will be able to do.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
Hearty. Ground pork chili.
Kelly
Read me some ingredients.
Liz
Okay, tell me. I know some of these you're not gonna have, but let's see. We have ground pork.
Kelly
Done.
Liz
Do you have an onion? You probably have frozen onion.
Kelly
I probably have frozen onion. If not, you can skip garlic. I have onion powder.
Liz
Okay, perfect. Yeah, garlic. Garlic powder. The crushed tomatoes.
Kelly
Got it.
Liz
Do you have any beans?
Kelly
Sure.
Liz
Chili powder?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Cumin, salt, pepper.
Kelly
Ground pork chili.
Liz
Chili powder. Yeah, There you go. Ground pork chili.
Kelly
Okay. Ground pork chili.
Liz
Done.
Kelly
Done.
Liz
Couscous on the side.
Kelly
And the thing is, like, ambitious kitchen. To her credit, she does put other recipes to do it with. But then I don't have the things.
Liz
Yeah, but then you have to get. It's just a bottomless. Then, you know, then you're gonna buy another obscure.
Kelly
No, I know.
Liz
I'm like, I'm just gonna bring you down this maze.
Kelly
I just need to start over. Like, I need to start over. So I'm gonna try to go. Well, how long should I try to go before I go Grocery shopping. Now, here's. Let me just say, my privileges. Chickens. So we have eggs.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
We need milk. But I'm not counting milk because I can get milk at a gas station. I think I could honestly go. I'm not gonna go 10 days. I think I could even with fruit. No, we have frozen fruit. Make smoothies.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I'm gonna try to go seven.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
I'm trying to not grocery shop until Saturday.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
And I'm not gonna clear it all out, but I think I'll make a good dent.
Liz
Yeah, I think that's. I think that's great.
Kelly
It's just like, I just have random.
Liz
Stuff and you might end up, you know, creating something wonderful.
Kelly
I know. I don't think I will. But the pork. Unless the pork chili smacks.
Liz
Unless the pork chili smacks sound good. Well. And I didn't think about that.
Kelly
What?
Liz
It might be fine. Yeah, yeah, it'll be good.
Kelly
It'll be good.
Liz
I think, I think it's always. I think with ground pork you just have to kind of like smother it in something in a mixture. The egg roll in a bowl, the stir fry, the chili.
Kelly
Yeah. I mean, here I'm googling ground pork recipes, pork meatballs, pork tacos, pork stir fry.
Liz
Yeah. I think you just like chili. Use it as whatever use, like beef.
Kelly
Okay. But you know, do you want some?
Liz
No, I'm okay. Thanks so much.
Kelly
Well, Liz, that's what was on my dump. So all is to say I'm gonna get a table runner from Spoon Flour. I'm gonna use what use the groceries I've got and whatever else I said.
Liz
Okay, gal. Well, we have an advice question. We have two advice questions. So if you want to get your own advice, you can write into hello atthecar momofficial.com this comes from Jen. Hey gals. I unfortunately bought a Tahoe with captain seats about a year ago and are now in the market for something with more trunk space. I'm pregnant with my third and last baby and considering a Chrysler Pacifica, Chevy Suburban or Expedition Max if I can find one in my price range. Could I get some advice? When baby is born, I will have an almost four year old, two year old and a newborn. So want to do whatever makes the most sense for three in car seats. We also live in Missouri, so all wheel drive are a must. I have a mockingbird stroller and a large dog that sometimes joins us. So Pacifica Suburban, Expedition Max.
Kelly
I find the Pacifica like such an interesting one to put on there.
Liz
Okay. Why do you say that?
Kelly
Well, I don't think the Pacifica, it's like, not my favorite van.
Liz
Okay. So it'd be like offer her a different band that you.
Kelly
Yeah, I would say so. Does she say a budget or she's just shopping?
Liz
No, she didn't. But she's looking at a Suburban and a Max.
Kelly
So if she can find them in her budget.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I don't think you should stretch yourself to do a Suburban and a Max. And this is like just the cold, hard truth. I think you. If you are after more trunk space on a budget, like, bang for your buck, you've got to go minivan.
Liz
Mm.
Kelly
And I think you're probably gonna do three across.
Liz
Mm.
Kelly
I don't love the Pacifica for three across. I don't think the bench seats very hard to find in the Pacifica. To me, it's coming up Honda Odyssey.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And you knew I was gonna say that.
Liz
Yeah. Okay.
Kelly
It's all coming up Odyssey. It's coming up 20, 21 Odyssey. Get in that.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
And just drive that. It's also like, I think people sometimes if you buy here's like, you have to listen to this car buying advice. If you buy a used car, you don't have to drive it for as long as a new car because it depreciates slower. So go buy a 2018 Odyssey, but. And just milk it for three years.
Liz
Would that be okay? So they live in Missouri. So she's like, she's once like the four wheel drive.
Kelly
Well, the Pacific doesn't have four wheel drive.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
But some versions of the Pacifica have four wheel drive.
Liz
The Odyssey doesn't.
Kelly
No, the Odyssey does.
Liz
It does not. Yeah.
Kelly
Well, then, I mean, if you. If four wheel drive is an absolute must have, then I would try to find a Sienna over a Pacifica for sure.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Reliability wise, I think the Sienna is the better option. And then between Suburban and Expedition Max, it's always going to be Expedition Max for me.
Liz
Mm. Yeah.
Kelly
But I would really ask herself if you. Do you really need it? Like, think about the last snowstorm. Like, did you go anywhere? Like, does your husband have a truck and did you take his truck instead?
Liz
Yeah, like.
Kelly
And like, remember, with ice, no one goes anywhere.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So, like, for when we had ice, no one was going anywhere.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I mean, I didn't even take my. I didn't take my Expedition out teller and take his truck out. No one went anywhere for like two days.
Liz
No one's going anywhere. I mean. Yeah. We had to leave during that big snowstorm that hit Missouri. It's like, Maddie, go get in your truck and go get groceries.
Kelly
So not to say like, I don't think four wheel drive is important, but.
Liz
This is really put yourself in that situation. Like, are you really. Because it's always. It's always gonna melt. You know, when we have the young kids, we're never leaving.
Kelly
And I think if you have another vehicle that's all wheel drive. I don't think a family necessarily needs two all wheel drive vehicles. I think one is. Would make me feel like I was prepared.
Liz
I agree. Yeah, I agree.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. Cal, we have another one. I have an advice question. I just found out I'm having baby number three, which means I will have three under three in May. I drive a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer with a bench and would love to try to do three across. Thoughts on that? If so, what car seats would you recommend? We currently have them in evenflow revolve360s, but I know those won't work. Plus I'm open to buying new seats because it would be night nice to put the ones we currently have in my husband's vehicle so we can divide and conquer more often.
Kelly
Well, a couple of things. The Wagoneer is like a really good car for three across. So I would actually tell you you probably could do even flow revolves, at least two of them.
Liz
And then you put the ba. The infant in the middle.
Kelly
Because you have an infant.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Okay. So whenever, like I. Whenever you're doing three across. But I want to be clear, like the Wagoneer is like a machine. So like, I think a lot of combinations would work. I think you'll only need one slim seat in the middle.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
So I would go get yourself a Graco Slim Fit 3 LX. Like the goat. Like the goat of slim seats. I put that in the middle. I'd keep. I think you can do an even flow on the other side or you can do something else, like whatever. And then I think any infancy will work.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
Well, that was easy.
Kelly
Yeah, I think, I think, I think it's. I think it's an easy combo. So world's your oyster. We just get that slow one for the middle and I think you'll be Gucci.
Liz
Okay. She also left like a very questionable ditch to the drive through and says, don't knock until you try it. And I'm gonna be honest, I don't think I' try it. But I do want to share it in case anyone's interested.
Kelly
I do appreciate, like, if you're gonna write in for advice. Bring value.
Liz
Yeah, no, for sure.
Kelly
Maybe I haven't heard this one yet.
Liz
Well, I'm not sure how much value it's gonna bring. She says don't knock until you try it. So maybe I will try it. Boxed white Mac. Boxed white cheddar Mac and cheese. Emphasis on the white cheddar. Crucial. Okay. This may be making more sense. Add in peas, Add in a packet of tuna.
Kelly
I think people eat something like this. I think it's like a tuna noodle casserole that we just didn't grow up like that.
Liz
Like a tuna casserole.
Kelly
I think our mom was incredibly intimidated by all seafood.
Liz
Incredibly intimidated by all seafood.
Kelly
She never like, I'll make a salmon filet. Like, I'll do like. I'm talking, like, she wouldn't even do like fish sticks.
Liz
Like, we never had seafood, shrimp, nothing. I made my first solo salmon when I was 27. Six years old, I made salmon for the first time because I was so intimidated by it.
Kelly
And maybe other people grew up like that. Like, mom was just such, like, mom cooked.
Liz
She's an excellent cook and she likes seafood she just would never touch. Which I get it. Okay. She had five kids. Like you're gonna, you know, they're not gonna eat the salmon that you're gonna make for them.
Kelly
Maybe that was just it.
Liz
Maybe that was just it. It's like I'm not gonna waste my time making the salmon when I know that they're going to eat this.
Kelly
Yeah, yeah.
Liz
Chicken.
Kelly
Could be. Could be.
Liz
Well, I get it.
Kelly
Are you ready for my ditch the drive thru?
Liz
Well, I think it's industry news first.
Kelly
Oh, okay. Quick story, quick story. Now it's time for industry news where I spill the hot tea going on in the auto industry. Stories from Car and Driver. And it says Ford is planning range extending plug in hybrids, says CEO Jim Farley. The comment came during Ford's fourth quarter earnings call to investors where Farley mentioned SUVs and pickup as potential use case scenarios. So this was interesting because we know EVs and we know PHP, which is a plug in hybrid electric vehicle. There's something new on the market. Extended range electric vehicle, or erev.
Liz
Okay, okay.
Kelly
And they are so. So basically Ford, if you remember, like they were going to do like a through electric SUV and then they decided not to, which I think is a good move. So now like this, it said they're going to test this new technology of these longer range hybrids on passenger SUVs and pickups. So it's all coming back to what we originally said, but. And there's no numbers or anything. But like, my take on that is like, instead of a plug in hybrid having like 30 miles of range, maybe it has 100.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
And there's also an engine.
Liz
Okay, cool.
Kelly
We'll see.
Liz
Sure. That sounds like a really good.
Kelly
I would drive that. I would drive that too.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And then there's like this. Yeah. Yeah. Good idea. I like it. Okay, now it's time for dish to drive through. We give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut. And this is what I plan on making when I go back to the grocery store. Marry me chicken pasta. Everyone's always saying, like, marry him, chicken. Marry me chicken.
Liz
Me chicken.
Kelly
I've never. What is marry me chicken? I don't know. I don't even know what. I don't even know if this girl just decided to call it this because then she has. You also may enjoy Marry me chicken orzo. Wonder if I could sub for couscous potential.
Liz
I think they're kind of different.
Kelly
It seems like it's the same ingredients, though. I think it's just like whatever the base is. So it's chicken dried oregano, which I have none of. Dried oregano, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, tomato paste, parmesan, heavy cream, butter. So it's like broth, olive oil, white wine, basil. So like, the main flavor profile is like cream, sun dried tomato.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Which is like a flavor profile I really enjoy.
Liz
I really enjoy it. This would be divorced meat chicken for me because my husband hates tomatoes, but sounds really good for me.
Kelly
So. Yeah, that's what I want to make Marry me chicken pastas from salt.
Liz
Well, I've seen the marry me chickens, like in crock pots.
Kelly
I would love to attempt. We should do that for crocktober. Let's get. Maybe we'll try it before. So then, like, because I don't think October. It's like I hate to put my name on something. Yeah. You know? Yeah.
Liz
Yeah. There's been some crocktobers I haven't revisited.
Kelly
We were all there.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
I did not like the soup that one time.
Liz
There was so much cheddar cheese. We made broccoli. Cheddar soup for crocktober, if you remember.
Kelly
And it was more of a dip. It was a dip watered down.
Liz
No, no, no, no. Mine was a soup. Mine tasted just like the panera broccoli dinner soup. However, I had a crock pot serving of it. And, like, Maddie wasn't gonna eat it like, he didn't like it or maybe he was gone. Like, it boiled down to the fact it was only me and I had a crock pot of soup.
Kelly
It was very much. If you want that soup, go, go to Panera. It needs. It's a single serving thing.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But I would love. Because people are, like, making their own rotisserie chickens. Like, I would love to do that.
Liz
Huh. That'd be nice.
Kelly
I'm gonna put a trigger warning on what I'm about to say next because it's not going to be people who don't have a stomach for farm life. But I told Tyler I really want to do meat chickens.
Liz
Mm.
Kelly
I saw a reel. They grow in eight weeks because they're bred to, like, grow very fast.
Liz
Okay. Interesting.
Kelly
Then we'd have our own chickens because that's how Tyler grew up. Tyler and his dad and his grandma grew up butchering chickens together.
Liz
Oh, family memory. His grandma is the grandma who's alive.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Oh, my gosh. She's like the daintiest little sweet old woman you've ever seen. I can't imagine her butchering.
Kelly
I'll tell another story again if you're not. If you have a stomach for it, you can skip.
Liz
But so about his grandma.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay, everyone, I need you to just imagine the just daintiest woman, the most grandma grandma you've ever seen.
Kelly
Yeah. She's amazing.
Liz
She's amazing.
Kelly
She's one of my favorite people in the world. And she has, I think we're like, number 47, great grandchildren. And every Monday she like, watches her. She watches her preschool aged grandchildren. So, like, we don't do it anymore because we moved far further away. But like some Mondays, like Georgia and had to go to her house and there's like six kids there, and like, she runs a tight ship. Anyway, how old is she? I don't know. She's not 90 yet. She's high 80s.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
She's high 80s. And so anyway, tell her and George were squirrel hunting together and they got a squirrel. And we don't just, like, shoot animals for fun. So, like, the rule is, like, you're gonna eat the squirrel. And like, Tyler grew up, he would shoot a squirrel and then grandma Stumpy would skin it out and fry it for him.
Liz
Oh, my gosh.
Kelly
So we get the squirrel and Tyler filets it. I don't know. Disgusting. I'm not part of this. Just so you guys know. I'm not part of this. And we call grandma and she's like, yeah, I'd Be happy to fry it up. We can just fry it up. Do a little squirrel gravy on the side.
Liz
And, like, just something about the word.
Kelly
So anyway, her. Jordan, Tyler are gonna go make squirrel.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Grandma grew up. She's. She's just seen some things. Like, she grew up very poor, and she says, like, one time we had Christmas at her house, and she had all these feed sacks because I guess in the olden days, like, in the 30s and 40s, they used to put feed sacks of animals and, like, pretty prints, like, pretty fabric. I don't know why, but that's what grandma's clothes were made out of. So her clothes were made out of feed sacks. Like, her mom would sew into dresses for her.
Liz
Wow.
Kelly
And she, like, had these feed sacks.
Liz
The dresses, or they're just the feed sacks?
Kelly
Just the feed sacks. Well, shouldn't have dresses anymore. I don't think so, at least. But it was just, like, crazy to see that.
Liz
Crazy.
Kelly
Yeah. She grew up such a different time.
Liz
Crazy how different things.
Kelly
It's crazy how different things are because.
Liz
Even, you know, like, no. No one is making their kids clothes out of feed sacks.
Kelly
No.
Liz
Like, no matter how, like, we were just so not there.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
We're so far removed from that.
Kelly
So crazy. And then people are dealing with other things.
Liz
So people are dealing with other things. People are still are, you know, sewing, you know, repurposing. And character. It's contentment and everything. But, like, they're not. Like, they're not making clothes out of feeds.
Kelly
They're not eating squirrels for dinner. Making.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And she did. So I'll just maybe share those stories. But, like, she's, like, truthfully, one of my favorite people in the entire world.
Liz
She's, like, the sweetest.
Kelly
Makes homemade pickles. Hattie's named after her.
Liz
Pickles are insane.
Kelly
Her name's Isla Fay, and Hattie's Hattie Faye.
Liz
Yeah. She's amazing. Okay, well, didn't think we would end the podcast with squirrel gravy, but here we are. So I think that's gonna be our episode. Thank you so much for listening to the carpool podcast, and we'll talk to you next time.
