Kelly
Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly. And I was talking to dad, and I was like, oh, yeah. Like, Claire's. Like, yeah, like, I see Claire. Like, she's in my book club. He goes, kelly, your book club is two people. Stop acting like it's this, like, giant club.
Liz
And Liz, my flex is I want to have so much less than you. I'm swimming in stuff I don't need. And I want you to open a drawer and be like, why is there nothing in this drawer?
Kelly
Your mom. Time off starts now. Welcome back to the carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. And we're doing something crazy. And it's not recording in person. It's recording after hours.
Liz
It is 8 o' clock on a Sunday.
Kelly
And which, if I, like, looked at my week at a glance and was like, when's the worst time to record a podcast? I would choose 8pm on a Sunday. Just like, so you're aware.
Liz
I don't know.
Sponsor/Ad Reader
I mean, my kids are asleep right
Liz
now, so if it does feel, like, statistically worse.
Kelly
No, but, like, without kids. Like. But, like, mentally.
Liz
Oh, no, like, mentally. I'm, like, so gone right now. But maybe. Maybe this is what we need. Like, I. I think I'm mentally gone because I've been, like, arguing with the toddler all day. Like, maybe if I just have some girl talk, then I'll snap out of it.
Kelly
We haven't talked hardly at all this weekend.
Liz
I feel like I know we've just
Kelly
been here nor there. Um, so, yeah, we'll. We'll kind of see where the one takes us. But by the time everyone's listening to this, it's like they're halfway through their week. It's Wednesday at 8am when they're probably listening.
Liz
I know. This is so weird. Just with our. Our editor needed our podcast kind of, like, early this week because she's traveling. So that's why we have Whatever. It doesn't matter to anyone else, but that's why we're recording, like, at such a weird time.
Kelly
That's the context, our problem, not yours.
Liz
But here we all are together.
Kelly
So I have a kind of a major confession.
Liz
What?
Kelly
I ate sugar. Oh, I know.
Liz
What?
Kelly
Yeah, like, straight up sugar.
Liz
What did you do?
Kelly
Well, so let's be very clear about something. Technically, Sundays don't count in Lent. So, like, I just do want to, like, preface. I know. I know what I said. I know what I said. Yeah, but technically, Sundays don't count in Lent.
Liz
Okay, let's. Let's dive in.
Kelly
It was donut Sunday?
Liz
Yeah, sure.
Kelly
At church. And I hadn't eaten before, and I was hungry, and I had a little too much coffee, and I was like, I need something to eat. And there was only donuts there.
Liz
So a donut is the straw that broke the camel's back.
Kelly
I was getting lightheaded.
Liz
I'm trying to think about what I would say. No, I think a donut's a pretty.
Kelly
That's.
Liz
Yeah, I think a donut's a pretty good thing to cheat on.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So I was at a dinner party at Kelly's house on Friday. I didn't. Did end up making it to dinner with the priest, and the priest had made pies, and Kelly was like, should I just cheat and have a pie tonight? I'm like, not the time. Like, first of all, the priests are here. So, like, so inappropriate. And second of all, like, just, like, a peach pie. Like, that's just. That's not. That's not it for me.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I could see, like, a donut on donut Sunday. You haven't eaten. Like, you're surrounded by the smell. Like, I could see how that is an appropriate time.
Kelly
So I did it. So I did it. And I was so hoping for it to be like, oh, that's much too sweet for me. Nah.
Liz
Like, the ketchup.
Kelly
The ketchup. No, I stand by the ketchup. Like, the ketchup was gross, but, like, I'm sorry. A donut's never not gonna hit no. A long john.
Liz
I know, I know. Okay.
Kelly
I didn't have my own. Like, I split it with Libby, and I got vanilla. I didn't mean to get chocolate.
Liz
Well, why wouldn't you just, like, go if you're gonna do it?
Kelly
Like, just. Because I wasn't gonna do it. Like, I didn't. I didn't want, like, Libby to get, like, chocolate icing all over her outfit, so I made her to eat a vanilla one O. Okay.
Liz
Okay, I see.
Kelly
I had a. I had a rhyme and a reason. But anyway, that's what my day started. And then from there, it's just been. It's just been like that. But anyway, let's. Let's go back to kind of like my iconic dinner party that I threw on Friday night. So in case you missed it, at our school's dinner auction, I bought dinner with the priests, which is like, where our priests come and make dinner. And it was so much fun.
Liz
It was a great time.
Kelly
Here is. Here were my notes. So in the way that this worked is like, the priests make dinner. So like, the priests brought the food, but I said, I will handle apps, because I just, like, wanted to have some control over the evening. So we had 17 people. We had three priests come, like, kind of amazing. Our priests are, again, I can't say that enough. So fun. Like, if you don't have a young priest at your parish, like, I am sorry, because they are so fun.
Liz
They were just, like, normal dudes.
Kelly
Yeah. And, like, growing up, like, I. Like, you know, when you're, like, going to, like, Catholic grade school, even, like, Catholic high school, like, you don't, like, know your priests, at least. We didn't. Like, we knew them, but we didn't. Like, we weren't peers. Like, and I'm not.
Liz
Like, we're.
Kelly
We're the same age as them. Yeah. So it's just very fun. It was just very fun. And they brought a really nice spread. So it was a Friday during Lens, so they brought. They did seared tuna steaks for the appetizers. They did brown sugar salmon, spinach, lasagna, lemon pepper, asparagus, and a salad.
Liz
It was delicious.
Kelly
And they made peach pie pies. No, like, it was. It was not. Like, I was very impressed.
Liz
Yeah. Honestly, we were. Like, it doesn't matter. Like, just bring, you know, stop at the fish fry before you come and.
Kelly
Yeah. Like, I wasn't in it for, like, the meal.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
You know what I mean? Yeah.
Liz
No, it was great. It. We're not close with the priests at our church. There's one young one, and he's, like, relatively new, and I don't really know how to forge that relationship, but it is something that Maddie and I want to do because, like, we just had so much fun listening to the priest talk and honestly, just have conversations with each other. Like, we're just so fascinated by what their life looks like, their thoughts on all the different schools and churches and just Catholicism general. It's just. It was really cool. I've never connected with a priest like I did at that dinner party, allegedly.
Kelly
You can just, like, invite your priest over for dinner because, like, Maddie said.
Liz
Maddie said that his family would do that growing up. And he's like, I really want to invite a priest over for dinner. I'm like, I do feel as though we have to, like, what do we do? Like, talk to them after church. Like, how do we get the ball rolling?
Kelly
I think you, like, send them an email or, like, if their numbers on the bulletin, like, you just text them. Because at our dinner auction, Father was like, you know, you can just, like, invite me over for dinner. And I'm like, this is a fundraiser. Like, this is not the time or place. Like, people need to think that they need to pay a lot of money to get you over for dinner, but something to think about. So, anyway, so they handled the meal. Now, here's what I did for appetizers. Again, it was no meat, so I did a Greek board, which, let me just say it hit hummus, spinach, artichoke dip, cucumbers, red peppers, pita chips, olives, feta. It was really, really good. It was really good. And I had a couple. And then I also wanted to do. I have, like, a thing from Pottery Barn that has, like, three little dishes, like, to put nuts in, and I don't ever use it. And I just randomly had three, like, different varieties of, like, dry appetizers.
Sponsor/Ad Reader
Like, you'll.
Kelly
So one of them had Cadbury eggs, because I can't eat them, but I wanted to buy them because I love them. So one had mixed nuts, and one had peanut butter pretzels. And that, like, that was a bar snack. But I put that not in the kitchen, but, like, in a seating area. And that was a really. I really enjoyed that. And then one of my friends. It was done.
Liz
Okay, good. Feels good.
Kelly
I mean, the mixed nuts were done, which, like, it's a mixed nut. Like, it wasn't even that heavy of a hitter. It would have never made a dent on the appetizer board.
Liz
No.
Kelly
And then one of my friends brought kind of a similar appetizer to what I brought. Like, she brought veggies and stuff. So I was like, why don't you take yours to the seating area, too? So we had two areas, which, you know, when you don't have children at a party, you can, like, have the food wherever, because I just trust everyone a little bit more. So I really enjoyed, like, the juxtaposition of. There's some apps here, there's some apps there. There was apps in front of people.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And then one of the priests made this, like, great seared tuna. And, you know, he put it, like, in my kitchen. But, like, the party was a little spread out by then, so I went around. I did past apps.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I. I loaded them up on a tray, and I went around to everybody and said, oh, you gotta try this. And, like, that kind of was fun. It gave me a job. I felt like such a hostess. And, you know, then, oh, you're on the deck. Oh, let me get you that. Oh, you guys are over by here. Because there was a lot of people so it was kind of fun to, like, do that.
Liz
Yeah, no, it was good. No one was. No one went hungry for a second.
Kelly
No, no one went hungry.
Liz
Everyone got to try everything. It was great.
Kelly
And it was just like, truthfully, one of the first times I've been with adults in my house without kids, which, I mean, I love my kids, but it was so fun to enjoy my house to its full extent.
Liz
No, it was like.
Sponsor/Ad Reader
It was like the first thing I
Liz
said to Tyler when I walked into your house. I had been there for like 10 minutes and it was so clean and it was so quiet. And I was like, tyler, you actually have, like, such a lovely home. Like, when your kids aren't around.
Kelly
Tyler cleaned all day. Yeah, he was kind of being crazy about your house.
Liz
Your house has literally never looked better than it did that night.
Kelly
Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
Liz
I think that Tyler. This compliment should be paid to Tyler. It sounds like.
Kelly
Yeah, I mean, he. Yeah, he cleaned a lot. Like, he went to Lowe's to buy a 10 foot ladder to clean the flan. The fan blades.
Liz
Oh, my gosh.
Kelly
Because like, the fan blades needed to be clean. Like, he was kind of being crazy. Like, at one point, I, like, was picking up the kids from school and I come home and he had taken everything out of my closet that was on the floor. Cuz he was cleaning my closet floor. And I'm like, okay, you got it. I'm sorry, you have to stop.
Liz
You've gone too far.
Kelly
Are people coming in my closet? Like, we didn't have. I'm telling you, we didn't have an area that people couldn't look at. Like, I literally gave tours and I. We opened every door. I had nothing to hide.
Liz
Yeah, it looked lovely.
Kelly
Thank you. So it was just, you know, it was a great evening. I'll do it again. I will. Because I bought it again this year at the dinner option.
Liz
Good. I'm. We're in. Yeah. St. John's are in.
Kelly
And aside from that, speaking of priests
Liz
in Catholicism, Maddie and I went to confession this week and.
Kelly
Oh, my gosh. Sorry. This is like, we're not trying to. Such a Catholic podcast, but this is what's going on in our lives.
Liz
Yeah. Sorry.
Kelly
And also, if you don't like hearing about another faith, I think you need to look inward because I find it interesting to hear other people's face.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Faiths.
Liz
Yeah. So Maddie and I have not transparently been to confession in years. We're kind of like rediscovering our Catholic faith through through this time in our life anyway, for me, it's been nine years since my last confession. For Maddie, it had been like 24 years since his last confession.
Kelly
Like, I think he needs to, like. Like, if this was the driver's test, he'd have to redo it.
Sponsor/Ad Reader
He.
Liz
Yeah, so it had been a long time. And so we both did our confession, which, if you don't know, it's like you go and you can either, like, sit face to face in front of a priest, or you can, like, it can be anonymous, and you can kind of go behind this, like, curtain thing, and you just confess your sins, and then the priest forget, like, forgives all your sins, and it's like, through Jesus Christ and everything. And it's. And it's wonderful. And then your sins are forgiven anyway, so. But then after, the priest will say, like, hey, this is your penance. This is what you have to now go and do. It's for as. After your sins have been forgiven. And so I always think, like, penance is kind of, like, tied to the severity of your sins or how many there were in my mind. And so I asked Maddie, I said, what's your penance? And he said, I have to pray a full. And first of all, both of our penances are very light, I think. But he was like, I had to pray a full rosary. What's yours? I'm like, oh. He just told me I had to do something nice for someone this week.
Kelly
Oh, that's interesting.
Liz
Yeah. So mine was like, so.
Kelly
Yours was so easy.
Liz
So easy. So I don't. Rosary is a little.
Kelly
Would have been 24 years.
Liz
It had been 24 years. I'm sorry. He's done a lot of things in his life.
Kelly
When I went back to confession for the first time in a long time, I had been 15 years, but I walked out with just having to do three whole Hail Marys. So, like, that was fine. That was not that big of a deal.
Liz
Yeah. So I don't. I actually don't totally know how it all works, but I just thought that was so funny. Like, cuz was so intense when I was like, just do something nice for someone.
Kelly
Okay. So anyway, we have such a great episode to record for you guys today. Just. We've got industry news. We've got Ditch the drive thru. I have a base model luxury.
Liz
Luxury.
Kelly
I have a base model luxury that I think is gonna rock your world.
Liz
I hope so.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
I have a fast lane philosophy.
Kelly
Wow. It's giving segments.
Liz
It's giving, like, we've Got everything to talk about. Oh, but one quick first announcement. I haven't even told you yet. I felt my baby kick today for the first time.
Kelly
I'm so happy.
Liz
Yeah, it was, like, such a relief because I'm like, night, I'll be 19 weeks this week. I'm like, they always say you're supposed to feel it earlier. We've had multiple pregnancies. I'm like, where is she? Hello.
Kelly
Do you want to talk about, like, your evenings?
Liz
Yeah, I guess I will, because I have been trying to find some, like, anyone else who's experienced this, and I'm like, was about to go to the carpool Facebook page, but lately. So when I had James, I didn't have, like, postpartum depression, but I definitely had, like, the baby blues, like, in the evenings, like the sundowners, kind of like the sundown scaries. Like, as soon as six or seven o' clock would hit, I would, like, start crying. I would feel unsafe. I would feel the sense of dread inside of me. I'd be like, maddie, you, me, and James have to all go be laying in our bed right now. Like, we have to be in bed. We have to close the door. We have to, like, he's like, it's bright outside. I'm like, it doesn't matter. This is what we have to do right now. And it would come on like a flip, like a switch. Anyway, I had no experiences like that with Sloan and only lasted about two or three weeks. And no experiences like that with Sloan. But Now I'm almost 19 weeks pregnant and I'm starting to feel that, like, sundown scaries where there's no reason why I should be feeling like this. Everyone's fine.
Sponsor/Ad Reader
Everyone is safe.
Liz
It's a beautiful day. My family's playing on a playground, and I am, like, feeling this sense of just, like, dread and anxiety. So I was, like, trying to find other people on social media whose baby maybe's been through this. And a lot of, like, the anxiety is associated with, like, the baby. Like, anxious. Anxious about the baby. Like, checking for the heartbeat and stuff. I'm like, I'm not worried about my baby. Like, none of my anxiety has to do with my baby. I. She's fine. Like, I. I'm not worried about her. It's literally like, I don't even know what I'm worried about. I just feel. I just cannot be happy in this moment. I cannot feel joy. I cannot feel happiness. And I'm just, like, depressed and sad and anxious, and I'm going to my doctor next week. So, like, I will talk to my doctor about it then. But I'm just curious to know if anyone has experience a similar thing, because I feel kind of crazy.
Kelly
Yeah, no, I've never. Never experienced anything close to what you're describing in pregnancy. Yeah, Postpartum all the time.
Liz
Well, and when all the reading I do, because there's things called, like, perinatal depression or anxiety or something like that, and that. That encapsulates, like, pregnancy and postpartum. But so many people do. So much of that is just talked about in postpartum. So I'm like, well, what is going on with me that I'm, like, crazy? Not crazy, but I'm feeling this during my pregnancy, and it has now. I'm super duper spooked for postpartum if I'm, like, already feeling it.
Kelly
No, totally. Are you feeling it tonight, or are you feeling better tonight?
Liz
I felt it, like, a little bit, but, like, last night, it wasn't so bad tonight. Last night, it was really bad. But I also have a lot of travel coming up in April, and I don't like traveling. I don't like leaving my family. So I'm also wondering if maybe I'm feeling a little, like, focus. Maybe I'm feeling a little bit of that, too, and it's already giving me anxiety. I don't know.
Kelly
We have got to learn how to like traveling more because, like, it just is a part of the job, and we both hate it.
Liz
I just. It's really. It's really hard to do right now. I'm. I'm gonna chalk it up to this stage of life because, like, both my kids would. Would prefer if I put them down at night. Like, my kids just. I'm sorry. My kids just need me. And, like, no. There's no job in the world to include the car mom. That feels more important than to leave my children for a night. And I know I have to do
Kelly
it,
Liz
but it doesn't feel important enough for me to do it. So I struggle with leaving for that reason.
Kelly
Yeah, that's kind of an interesting. It's kind of a heavy thought.
Liz
No, it's really heavy thought. It's gonna make me cry.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
But so anyway, if anyone's ever had, like, pregnancy anxiety, that only sometimes comes up. Lmk.
Kelly
Lmk.

Exclusions apply. Okay, well, are you ready for doing your fast lane floss or what? My base model looks.
Liz
We can start with yours. I feel like I did a lot of talking, so.
Kelly
My gosh, I have so much to talk about. I can't even believe.
Liz
Remind me to it.
Kelly
Okay, well, hold on. I have. I won't forget my base model luxury. So can I bring up something else I'm doing?
Liz
Sure.
Kelly
Okay. Sound the alarm. Kelly has a new micro hobby. Kelly has a new micro hobby. Kelly has a new micro hobby. I'm so excited to announce I have a new micro hobby.
Liz
What is it?
Kelly
Well, the dollhouse has been put to rest. I bought it. It came in. I love it. Best purchase I ever made. No rag rats, not even a letter. And you know, I'm always looking to be a part of something, and I am now a part of a new thing. Do you know what it is?
Liz
I don't.
Kelly
I am in a March madness league.
Liz
With who?
Kelly
Naptime Kitchen. She's doing one brought to you by Chinet, which is just like. Like, literally. Oh, dinner party. We had chinatte platters. I didn't want to. I didn't have enough dishes, so we did a high low. We did china, paper plates, real silverware, rear glasses. And you know what? No one. No one had a complaint. And the cleanup couldn't have been easier.
Liz
Well, plates take up the most room
Kelly
in the dishwasher, in China, paper plates, like, it's just. They're everything. They're everything. Anyway, she's posting about this, and I'm like, this sounds so fun. Like, I just would love to. It's. It's bringing me back to football, you know, it's bringing me back to the playoffs. Like, I want to get the bracket. I want to get my highlighter out. And we used to do these at. Dad used to make us all fill out brackets when we were kids. So it's like, this is perfect. Like, I don't need to start my own league. Like, Kate's doing it. I do think it's too late to get your bracket in. So sorry if you. But maybe it's not. You can check. So I logged onto the account was so easy. Apparently, Kate said that they have the largest group on espn What?
Liz
That's crazy.
Kelly
She said it was the largest group by 5, 000 people.
Liz
What?
Kelly
15, 000 people entered last year. Grand prize, $10,000.
Liz
Whoa. Okay, wait. I need to join this league.
Kelly
Okay. Don't do it right now, though. All right, so I log on to make a league. You can do up to 25 brackets, I think, on one login, which I'm not doing that, but Hattie, George, and I all filled out a bracket.
Liz
Oh, nice.
Kelly
So Hattie and George, I said, you know, do you want Mizzou or Iowa? And they would just say whatever they wanted. George has Yukon going all the way. It's a Husky. He was feeling the husky. I think he liked saying the word Yukon. It's a number two seed. Hattie, my Catholic queen. Saint Mary's. Saint Mary's to the finish line. They're, like, ranked so low. Well, but you never know. I took Arizona all the way.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
And anyway, so we. It's online. I print. I saved them as PDFs, printed out all of our brackets. First game start on Tuesday. Like, I'm lathered up about it.
Liz
So fun.
Kelly
No?
Liz
Yeah. Okay. That's a fun thing to do.
Kelly
And I told the kids, like, we're probably not gonna win. I already. I honestly regret telling them that it's like a contest for money, because that was a mistake. Because now it's like, now it's all about the money.
Liz
Yeah, sure.
Kelly
But I did tell them, like, you know, this is like a fun thing for us. Like, you know, we'll have to cheer for our teams. But George is like, I want to buy a 3D printer. Which, if anyone, I'm ha. I'm entertaining the idea of a 3D printer for George.
Liz
Let me tell you something about a 3D printer really quick. Yeah. Yeah. My sister in law's Neighborhood has multiple 3D printers, and she told me that he has started making like 3D printed, like, octopuses, kind of like those dinosaurs that James had that I showed you, Kel. Like, they're kind of like a fidget, and they kind of are, like, fun to mess. Mess around with. And he's selling them on Etsy and he's like, making more. Selling these 3D printed octopuses on Etsy, running his, like, three 3D printers in his basement than he was, like, in his career.
Kelly
I think it's a saturated market because I think everyone has a three. So, yes, I believe that because, I mean, I'm. I'm always buying 3D printed crap for my kids. Like any crafter we go to. We're walking with 3D printed stuff. But do you think it's, like, a thing to get, like, just, like, for. Can you be a hobby? 3D printer? I think George is probably a little young.
Liz
I think he's a little young because they also take. Takes, like, forever to 3D print something.
Kelly
I know.
Liz
And, like.
Kelly
And it sounds like I'm gonna have to set it up, and I don't want to have to set it up.
Liz
Okay. No, you're right.
Kelly
I'm fading. I can't even get. I can't even sit down and do a Lego kit with the kit. I can't set up a 3D printer.
Liz
Okay. I'm personally impressed that your regular printer was working enough that you were able to print out brackets.
Kelly
Thank you. Oh, what can I say?
Liz
That's a. That's a real flex.
Kelly
Elizabeth, you're 100% correct. Having a working printer as an adult,
Liz
if my printer worked one time, like, I would be unstoppable.
Kelly
Unstoppable.
Liz
I mean, it's never worked. Sloan has a doctor's appointment tomorrow. They wanted me to print something out and, like, fill it out. I'm like, look, I'm just gonna fill it out in the waiting room when I get there, because what am I supposed to do? Maddie's not at work, so I can't have him printed there. And, like, my. My 300 printer has worked once, so what do you want from me?
Kelly
So my theory with my printer is I didn't even try. It says I plug her in. I didn't even. I'm not even trying to connect. Yeah, no, I. I'm taking it down to the basement. I'm plugging her in, and I'm hitting print.
Liz
You have to.
Kelly
You have to. I can't. It's not the. The network's not going to get reached if I don't do it this way. So. No, I. Yeah, that's kind of my printing theory.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
It's just. I'm. I just Plug her in.
Liz
Yeah. Okay.
Kelly
So anyway, I'm super excited for my new March Madness.
Liz
Okay. What's your base model? Luxury.
Kelly
Okay. My base model luxury. Speaking of micro hobbies, you guys know, I don't know if I've talked about, but I am in a book club, which. Dad. Dad's the most out of pocket thing to me the other day because we were talking about someone that. So one of my childhood friends is in my book club, and I was talking to dad, and I was like, oh, yeah, Like, Claire is Like, yeah. Like, I see Claire, like, she's in my book club. He goes, kelly, your book club is two people. Stop acting like it's this, like, giant. He's like, it's you, Claire, and one other girl. Yeah, it's not really a book club. And I was like, okay, sure.
Liz
What do you want to call it then?
Kelly
Well, and he was right. Because here's the thing. By nature, I talk things up like, that's who I am.
Liz
No. Yes. And that's why you're entertaining. Here's the thing with Kelly. The best place to be when she's telling a story is you were there and you know what actually happened. And it was, like, way lamer than she's making it sound. But everyone's like, this is sick. And you're like, that's what happened. And then there's the other side of the story where you weren't there and Kelly's telling a story, and you go, I know a portion of this is untrue. Which part of it are you. Are you elaborating on?
Kelly
I wouldn't say I lie. I say I exaggerate. Like, I'm like, oh, yeah, it's my book club. Like, my book club. And it is just two. Two. It's three of us. But you could argue that's a book club.
Liz
I don't know. I'm trying to.
Kelly
I've been trying to recruit you to join. Give us a solid four. Anyway, so back to my book club. So the book we're reading is called the Girl with the Louding Voice. And I'm not being dramatic at all with this story. I am historically an audiobook girl. I drive a lot and I don't have time to read because, like I said, get in bed at night, and I fall asleep scrolling my phone. Like, I'm so tired. I can't imagine picking up a book. So I download the audiobook. It is. First of all, I absolutely love the book everyone should read is. First of all, everyone needs to stop reading smut novels. I'm sorry. I'm gonna give you a little conviction. Like, come on, it's trash for your head. Like, let's read something of some substance. Okay. This is something with some substance. It's about a girl who grows up in Nigeria and has an insane story. I don't want to give. Anyway. You don't need to know anything else, but, like, it's just an incredible she. She goes through so many trials and tribulations.
Liz
Is it true?
Kelly
That is such a good question. I don't think it's true. Okay, but it's like, it probably depicts what. It's. It's not true, but it like, it depicts what it's like to live in Nigeria.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
You know, the book is written in broken English because, like, she speaks broken English and like the first and. But unfortunately the audiobook is like, has a very thick Nigerian accent and it was impossible to listen to. Can I play just a quick little portion?
Liz
Yeah, I think so.
Kelly
So you guys know that I'm not exaggerating.
Liz
So you know not to download the audiobook.
Kelly
No, let me pull it. And you know, this was 14.99 down the drain. Outside the moon is red, hanging too
Liz
low the sky be as if God block out his angry eye and throw it inside.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
But you also have it on, like turn it on to regular speed.
Kelly
Oh, yeah, you're right. Okay. It's still bad.
Liz
Okay. Fireflies in the air this night their body is flashing a light of many colors. Green and blue and yellow. It is.
Kelly
Did you hear it?
Liz
Yeah, I heard it.
Kelly
It's very hard to understand.
Liz
I could hear like, I could understand that. But I could also see how like listening to that for like an hour drive would. You would like, zone out a little bit.
Kelly
I was like hanging on every word. So anyway, I found the audiobook difficult, so I was like, okay, well, I like this is the book.
Sponsor/Ad Reader
Yeah.
Kelly
So I bought the book. And my base model luxury is a physical book. Now before you roll your eyes, and I'd love to roll these tapes for
Liz
the record, my eyes are so.
Kelly
Keep your eyes straight.
Liz
My eyes are straight.
Kelly
It's not just reading a physical book. It's carrying said book in your purse. It's being at the doctor's office and pulling out a book.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Not a Kindle. Not listening to in your AirPods, but like taking out your bookmark, which I use a family photo, which is also a basal luxury. It's taking out your bookmark, putting it a couple chapters behind and opening up your book.
Liz
There's, there's a level of A, you are getting your book read and B, you are better than everyone in the waiting room.
Kelly
I am 1000% better than everyone in the waiting room. And I'm really enjoying the book. I love how feels. Here's why I like the book. Here's why I like reading. It feels like guilt free me time.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Because there's very few things I could do for me. Like, for example, if I like, put the kids down for a nap and like I have a minute And I scroll my phone. I feel yucky after, I feel guilty after. I don't feel like I gave myself self care if I sit down with a beverage, coffee, sparkling water cocktail. And I read a book.
Liz
You're doing something.
Kelly
I'm showing myself love, to be honest with you.
Liz
Yeah, no, I think you are. You are. You actually are. Like you're using your brain.
Kelly
I'm using my brain. I'm doing something for me. I feel better after I read it. It's an amazing story. Like I'm feeling really. And once you're a person who reads, I know this isn't new to anybody, but I'm always. Remember how I'm always trying to teach you guys, like, the importance of like, you know, dinner auction conversations, being able to converse with people. Well, let me paint you this picture. So now I'm a little versed, not an expert obviously, but now I have a little bit of knowledge of the country of Nigeria. It's an interesting country. It's a tough country. And then I'm on a panel last week, an amazing panel with amazing women. The woman next to me on the panel with me immigrated from Nigeria when she was 11. I said, after, I said, you know, I'm reading a book about Nigeria. She goes, which one? I said, the girl with the Latin voice. She goes, it's a great book. I said, it's a great book.
Liz
Yeah. And now you look well read because this woman was extremely profound and well read.
Kelly
She was extremely pro. Like, she's got a hard. She's got. She's got multiple books.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
She's probably written a thesis in her life. I've never written a thesis.
Liz
No, for sure. Yeah, for sure.
Kelly
So when you just. That's why you need to be reading, not smart novels. Sorry. And that's my PSA today.
Liz
That's okay. Hey, you can like take. You can like read a book about Nigeria. Like you can read a book about whatever and then you can put a smut novel in between. I think like too many in a row though is like, it also has to be a good one. Like just like the actual just like trash is just like literally not even worth listening to.
Kelly
I don't like them. And so here's what I've done in my book club. So since I book club, I've read a book about Iran, the Warsaw ghettos and Nigeria. So like, I'm so like culture cultured.
Liz
So cultured.
Kelly
I have world context.
Liz
Yeah. I think it just feels good. I think it's important to have that's
Kelly
my base model luxury.
Liz
Okay. I have a fast lane philosophy that I have.
Kelly
We share something that's peaked our curiosity.
Liz
This is a lesson that I have Learned through my 40 days of less, which is going great, great. Thank you. I've learned a couple of things.
Kelly
Oh, this is like, something that you've come up with, not something that you like. You're not just rearing an Instagram.
Liz
No, no, this is something I've come up with. Oh, this is like, something I've learned that, like, my. And I've also kind of seen it on social media a little bit. But, like, I feel like for so much of my life, I was, like, jealous when people would have more than me. They would have. Or better clothes than me. More. More of anything than me. And I always wanted to have what they had. I think a lot of us feel that way, especially when we see other people's, like, beautiful homes on social media or perfect families or whatever. It's just like, I want what you have. My new thing is my flex is I want to have so much less than you. I'm swimming in stuff I don't need. And I want you to open a drawer and be like, why is there nothing in this drawer? It's like, because the. I needed a pen and some scissors in there, and that's all that's in that drawer. I don't want to have a gadget for everything. I want to be like, oh, you have a. You know, a gadget to, like, cut your strawberries. I just use a knife. Like, I don't want a million things. I want to have so much less. And actually, the people who now I'm like, I'm jealous of your life that I see on Instagram are the people who have so simplified their home, and so now their home is clean because they don't have stuff everywhere. Like, I'm sick of stuff. I want to have so much less, and I'm so happy with having less.
Kelly
I think you've really inspired all of us, like, myself included. And it's funny you bring up a drawer, because I had a similar feeling. I have a drawer in my home, and it had a bunch of stuff that we never needed. Like, it had, like, a puzzle that was missing pieces. It had a picture frame that was ugly. It had, like. It had a. Like, it just had random stuff. And I got rid of all of it because we didn't need any of it. And I looked at that drawer and I'm like, but what? Up in this drawer? And I'm like, well, I just put nothing in this drawer.
Liz
Sometimes, like drawers and closets, we feel the need to fill them and stuff them. And I really felt the need to fill and stuff them after my renovation because, like, well, what should go here? Well, what should go here? Oh, well, I don't really want this, but I have a spot. I have room now. Like, I have storage now. So I'll keep it. Yeah, but, but it's okay for rooms for closets and drawers to not have much. And actually I think it's better because you're going to find things quicker and you're going to be able to like, breathe and just, just having less makes me happier. Someone commented on one of my videos and said, because the hard, the actually the hardest area for me has been clothes. But I'm giving myself some grace because I've been, you know, eight different sizes in the last three years and I'm going to continue to be as I go through pregnancies and postpartums. So I'm giving myself some grace on clothes. But what someone said was, if you have a hundred shirts and you only wear three, you only have three shirts, so why am I holding on to 100?
Kelly
That's so interesting. So I desperately need to do a closet purge, but I'm not ready.
Liz
Yeah. For that. I'm just saying I think if you are feeling overwhelmed by things to start to get rid of less and then you're going to be even less inclined to buy stuff because you're like, well, I just. Because like that puzzle, for example, Cal, you're like, okay, but I paid money for this puzzle. Like, I know it's missing a piece. Like I bought this, Like, I spent money on this. And so you don't want to just like throw it away. But if you do just like get rid of it, the next time an opportunity comes around for you to buy something, you're going to think more seriously, like, do I, Is this where I actually want my money to go? Because in six months, is this going to be a puzzle with a missing piece?
Kelly
Well, and it does beg the question, when do you get rid of a puzzle if it's missing one piece?
Liz
I think of a puzzle of missing any pieces. You're not going to get the satisfaction of putting it together. I think you should get rid of it.
Kelly
See, I disagree. I think if it's less than, depending on, of course, the number of pieces. This was a hundred piece puzzle missing three pieces.
Liz
Yeah, I wouldn't keep that.
Kelly
It was a fade. I agree, I agree. If it was just missing one piece, I think it's a keep. Because Hattie loves to do. Patty loves to do.
Liz
Okay, then I think it depends. Like, I don't like puzzles. I'm not that. If I'm gonna do a puzzle, I'm gonna, like, sit down. I want to finish it to completion. Like, I need that satisfaction. Like, one missing piece would drive me absolutely up a wall. But if it doesn't bother you, I wonder.
Kelly
There needs to be, like, a service where it's like, if you're missing a piece of a puzzle, you can, like, take a picture of your puzzle and then, like, they'll mail you the piece.
Liz
I don't know how common of a. I don't know how common of a problem this is for people that it would be a sustainable business.
Kelly
Oh, really? Because, like, I don't know if I could. I. I think we're like. I think every puzzle we have is missing a piece.
Liz
I don't know. Not really.
Kelly
I think we're in different life phases on this one.
Liz
We totally are.
Kelly
Because, like, I'm not doing a puzzle. My kids are doing a puzzle.
Liz
Sure.
Kelly
And so, like, that means they're getting it out. They're putting it away. They're putting it.
Liz
Well, then, I don't know. I guess you gotta ask your kids. I. I can't. I can't answer this question. I guess I don't understand. Okay. Okay. And then the last thing I've learned through my. My 40 days of less experience is the bane of my existence is Amazon. When I want to order something on Amazon, it being like, a better deal if I get two.
Kelly
I've never noticed that.
Liz
You know, if you're, like, looking like I was looking for a sheets. A sheets organizer. Okay, well, it came in a pack of two. Guess what? I only need one. So now. Now I have two. And now I don't want to get rid of the one because I bought the two. And it's like there are so many things that I have thrown away that I've noticed. It's because I have already have one of them and I don't need two. And Amazon has kind of ruined my life because it's like, you order. Like, I was trying to find a net for James for Easter because I think he would really play with a net a lot right now. And that's only coming a pack of two. And I'm like, well, I only want one net. So I can either buy and what, two nets for 15 or one net, a nicer net for 18. I'm like, well, what do I do?
Kelly
See, I think you're gonna be in the minority on that one, because I'm appreciating, like, the. That I get two.
Liz
I mean, like, kids things I think is a little bit different, but it's like, it's. I have found most frequently the things I'm getting rid of, it's because I already have one of them, and I don't need more than one.
Kelly
Well, that's kind of the opposite of what I've been preaching on my Instagram this past weekend, because I am kind of exploring the new. I don't know when I get to call myself a toy expert, but I think I'm, like, on my way there, to be honest with you.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
What I have to do, Be an expert. Do a thousand hours worth of something. I've probably been around toys for almost a thousand hours now, and there is a theory with toys where it's like, you go deep with your toys instead of wide. Meaning, like, you get more of the toys that you have. The example being this, like, I shared on my Instagram stories this weekend. Like, we have this play tent. My kids play 10 love this play tent. They're obsessed. So, like, why am I going to try to, like, reinvent the wheel? What if I got two play tents? Because what could we do with two play tents? We could do Ten City. We could do Forts. We could do Boys vs Girls. We could, like, George and Hattie could sleep in them one night. Like, it would just open up. It's already a home run toy. So sometimes just, like, getting. Oh, I can get the tunnel that connects the two. So like, sometimes just getting more of what you have is. Is the better option.
Liz
I think that's like, an example of less of just rinse and repeating what you've already done. Like, let's just. Since we've already hated on this product so many times, like the Gabby's Dollhouse. It's like the Gabby's Dollhouse is one note. There's like, you can play Gabby's Dollhouse with the pieces. A tent is boundless. It's endless. Two tense is endless.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Annette is your imagination. It's endless. Like, I think that what I'm going to be more mindful of with my toys moving forward is what can be used for more than just one purpose, you know, like, what can stretch their. What can stretch their, like, imagination and not just be, like, one note.
Kelly
Yeah. And I like when the toys are in activity. So, like, this week, I've brought Out our rainbow cones.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So I have.
Liz
Oh, my gosh, stop talking about these rainbow cones.
Kelly
I won't. I have 100 rainbow cones. And I don't always have them out because, like, they're annoying. Because, like, they get everywhere, but, like, I bring them out every six to eight weeks. Buy me hours, like they are. The kids play all. They make houses with them. They like, make their little, like, boxes that they have to stay in. Hattie's making flowers with them. How do you made a rainbow with them? They make a maze with them. They take them outside.
Liz
Like, that's what I'm. Opportunity. Endless, endless opportunities to do with things. Now couple the cones with tents and, like, you're done. They're entertained all day.
Kelly
Yeah. Yeah. So. And, like, same thing with, like, Legos and Magna tiles. Like, sometimes just buy another thing of Legos and magnetiles. Like, that's the best toy. Like, what can. And I. That's why, like, I'm telling you, I'm dangerously close to buying a third nugget. Third three nugget people let me know.
Liz
Three nuggets.
Kelly
Tyler. That's what Tyler said, but I think he's wrong.
Liz
But you know what? I did. Nuggets aren't.
Kelly
But it's our most used toy.
Liz
Also, nuggets are not for sleeping on. However, my husband did have to sleep in his study because that's where we have Indy's crate. And he had to hear him to, like, let him go out because he's just a little baby puppy. And I set him up like a lovely nugget. Bed.
Kelly
Bed. I don't think they are sleeping.
Liz
No. I mean, they'll say, like, don't let kids sleep on them, because it's like, they're not meant for sleeping. It's like, I'm not. I'm not promoting unsafe sleep. I do feel as though, when it's a grown man, it's fine. I just didn't want anyone to, like, come for me on the unsafe sleep. But he. It was, like, a great bed. So I do think, like, nuggets can be, like, multi.
Kelly
They're, like, so versatile, you know? I love my nuggets.

Kelly
okay, so now it's time for industry news where I spill the hot tea going on in the auto industry. And we really only have one story and it's a very sad story. So we're gonna put a trigger warning on the remainder of this conversation. But I do have some more thoughts, like, outside of what I've shared on my Instagram that I would like to dive into. So this is, I, I want to like really get into it a little bit. So like, if you're listening with small ears, like just, I would skip ahead because I just have some things I feel like I want to say. Okay, so there is a recall and a stop seal on the 26 Honda Palisade. It affects the trim levels that have the power folding seats. So that's the limited in the calligraphy. The power folding seats may not detect weight or an object or an occupant when the power folding or the tilt and slide is happening. This has resulted and in the fatal death of a two year old girl in Ohio. Okay, like, I am really trying to understand this and I'm really trying to think like, how can I raise awareness for this? How can I get a little mad at this? How can I? I mean, I'm mad, I'm mad, I'm mad. But I also want to try to be like as respectful as I can to the family. And like, if I'm just being honest, like the lack of empathy from the auto industry to this family has been like really sickening to me.
Liz
What do you mean?
Kelly
Just like, I mean a child died and like it just feels like every outlet is just. I'm just not seeing a lot of like human Emotion in it.
Liz
It from, like, who from.
Kelly
From. From just the auto industry in general.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Like, I don't know that that might not be a fair taken. I think I'm just. Again, I think I'm just taking it very sensitively. And I think one of the reasons is. Is I know that I learned that the mom followed me on Instagram and, you know, do. Did she watch my tour? Did she not watch my tour? I don't know. I don't feel. I don't feel responsible, but I feel a little frustrated with myself because one, I didn't test that and I didn't notice that in my tour. And I. Moving forward, I will absolutely be. I just didn't think power seats could be that dangerous.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And I think I'm just kind of like a little mad at myself that, you know, I. I really pride myself on, like, doing tours and showing things that nobody else shows. And I just feel a little stupid that I missed that. That I didn't even test that, that I. That I was so careless to be like, oh, it's got power folding seats. And I didn't think, like, I just didn't. I don't think.
Liz
I didn't watch the story. I didn't watch re. Watch the tour that we did, but it was probably like, oh, and this is like, kind of slow and frustrating. Like, like. But A Girl's Guide to Cars. Scotty, she. In her. In her review of the Palisade, she sat in the car and she did the rear and she did the power folding seats while she was sitting in it. And she was like, oh, my gosh, it's not stopping. Like, this is kind of scary. Like, it. I'm. She's an adult, and it, like, did not sense her weight or the fact, like, and it pushed her up against the thing and she was like, wow, this is kind of crazy. So it's. It's.
Kelly
It's.
Liz
It's. It's crazy to me that they. A car would be made and it could have the capability and not stop when someone is detected. Like, we have all this technology.
Kelly
Well, and it's. It's that and it's. And we don't know what happened. And I really don't want to. I don't think it's taste. I think it's. I don't want to, like, try to paint the picture too clearly for people because I think that's insensitive to the family. But what I. But. But in my head, I think I. I think I know what happened and I'm so concerned at just the force of the seats. Why did the seats have to be that? Why do they have to be so forceful? Like, it's one thing if they can't detect it, and it was fast, but why are they so forceful?
Liz
Yeah, I don't know.
Kelly
I don't know. And, like, I know more, but I've been asked, like, I just. And I've been ashes. Like, I'm not gonna share it, but it's just like. And here's the other thing. So, like, I didn't know this, and I've learned so much. And, like. Like, I don't know. I will do. And I'm not. I'm not. I'm not blaming myself because I'm living and I'm learning. And, like, you know, in that palace they tour, what we did call out was the importance of not using their relaxation mode when you're driving.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Because that's unsafe. The owner's manual says not to do that. And then they put a feature like that in. They're like, it's disgusting. It's disgusting. It. It really. I'm really, like, mad. But what I think is going to be not good. Not a good look is you can report incidents to Nitsa. Okay, I didn't know this. You can then search reported incidents from Nitsa. So Sam from Mama knows car seats, who's on the car on team. She went to Nitza, looked at the 2600 palisade. There's been multiple reports of this. Multiple reports. So, Like, at what point. So was it just not serious enough for them?
Liz
Yeah,
Kelly
and the other thing I'll say is, like, I do urge people to be. If you have this car, like, I know you're freaking out. I know you want to get a rental car. I know all these things. I would urge you to be kind to your local dealers who are trying to facilitate these rentals because, like, they. I promise you, like, from the inside, they have received. They received. Received the same amount of notice that you did. And they have probably limited to no support from corporate and probably not a lot of cars to give. So, like, you can be frustrated, but, like, I just want you to know, like, it's not. And I mean, if. I mean, I'm not saying some dealers aren't probably. I'm not defending all dealers, but, like, just realize, like, they're. They're probably super frustrated with this whole thing too, because it's a cluster.
Liz
And I don't. I don't know, like, what a solution will be.
Kelly
Well, so as of now, and I mean, I wish this was like, I think I'll know more by Wednesday, but as of now, they're talking about like an over the air update to like, try to fix it and then they're gonna do a. More like they're. They're working on a remedy.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But I don't know. I'm thinking about going to the Hyundai store tomorrow and like, just, I'm trying to decide if I want to film and show the danger of the seats or if I should just not do that.
Liz
I mean, I think that raising awareness is important because another, like, it's also like the Hyundai Palisade is. Is on recall, but like, other vehicles also have power seats. And like, I think that when we know that a vehicle has power seats, something we will do in future tours is do what Scotty did and like, sit in it and make sure that it does stop or that it has like, some. Because that's. I mean, again, we don't know what happened. Like, I can't tell you the amount of times that like, like a new activity for me and my kids to go do is just like, go play in my car. Because, like, we need something new. I do it all the time. And I don't know if that's. If that's what was happening, but like, I can imagine a scenario where my kids are playing in the car and maybe a button get, like, button gets pressed and like, like, I don't know. It's just.
Kelly
Well. And what I have heard, and I feel pretty comfortable sharing this from people who have DM'd me, is I know the car was not in motion. I know it happened very quickly. And I, I know the child was supervised to the extent that they. That to the extent that they were. They were not alone in the car.
Liz
Yeah, right.
Kelly
So that's. That's what I'll say. So if I like, like the mom shaming, like, oh, I'm deleting. You've never seen me delete comments so fast.
Liz
People are mom shaming.
Kelly
I'm sorry, but why is. It's like you don't. You literally have this.
Liz
I'm sorry, but
Kelly
this family is so beyond innocent and broken in this. Like, you want. It's not on me. We're not doing that here. So. And you know, I just, like, don't know what this means. Like, it's just. I just don't really know, like, how I. Get over it. Like, and even when it's fixed, like, I'm just really mad. Like, I'm supposed to get a Palisade as a press car in a couple of weeks. Like, what am I going to do with it? It.
Liz
Yeah, I don't know. Maybe they'll and like fix it or don't fix it. Like, it's just like, okay, yeah, no, it's, it's not, it's not good.
Kelly
But, you know, From the time the incident came out to now, I do feel like Hyundai has acted quickly and effectively. So I have liked how they've handled things. I think the stop sale was good. You know, they're offering to pay for loaner cars, which I think is good. They're trying to do the over there update. I mean, they obviously didn't want this to happen. Like, they obviously didn't want this to happen. And I do really like Hyundai and it is hard like Hyundai does. I mean, they are safe cars and I know they put a lot of. They do prioritize the second and the third rows in ways that other car manufacturers don't. They crash test great on the ihs. They have pre tensioners. They have amenities in the second or third row. I mean, there's not a car on the market that you can get heated seats on in the third row except for the Palisade.
Liz
Like, yeah, I think that this is just a upgrade to the 2026s. I think that no one thought that a, any anyone could be crushed. And I think that when you're thinking about someone getting someone dying in, in a car in this situation, like, you're not always thinking about children, especially if you don't have children. And I mean, I never thought something. I never thought my child could be. I never thought this could happen to my child. So I, I don't think anyone ever thought this could happen. And like, it's a new redesign and redesigns have, you know, flaws in them and whatever. This one was fatal. And it's horrible. And I. And they're going, it won't happen. Moving forward. Yeah.
Kelly
And it's not the first. I mean, there has been several incidents in history where faulty design has caused fatalities in vehicles. Like, I mean, there's just been several cases of that. You know, obviously with just being like a young child, it's just like, really.
Liz
I mean, it's just like disgusting. It's horrible and it's like literally impossible to imagine.
Kelly
Yeah. So I think that it's not going to. I also, I feel like I'd be doing a disservice if I'm like, I'm not gonna Blacklist Hyundai, like I can't do that and I don't think I need to do that.
Liz
I think you just need to spread awareness and that is don't buy the Palisades. And also there might be other Hyundais, like they haven't said it but there might be other Hyundai's or Kias that have this technology. They have not said that yet at the time of this recording. But just be aware if you are in the market for a Hyundai or a key and they have these power stuff. Test it out and make an informed decision.
Kelly
Test it out and make an informed decision. Yeah, I think they will end up recalling the Santa Fe and the Ionic. I don't think the Kia Telluride has power folding seats.
Liz
I don't know.
Kelly
In the same way. I don't know. I might try to. I have to go to south county tomorrow, so I might try to. I might run by Kia too.
Liz
I don't know if I think I'm Kia that we. I don't know if for the Telluride we looked, I was like the highest. True. It sounds like it's only on the highest trims.
Kelly
Yeah. But like in the past, like one of the differences between the Palsy and the Telluride is the Telluride doesn't have power flowing seats and the Kia does. Sorry.
Liz
Switch that. Yeah.
Kelly
So I don't know for 27 they kept that difference or if they added it but online, I don't know.
Liz
I think tomorrow take it. Go take a look.
Kelly
I will. And I think what I'm gonna do if I do decide to do it, I want to get like a cardboard box and like a 30 pound weight and I want to put it in there.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I want to try to fold the seats.
Liz
Yeah. Okay, good call.
Kelly
I'm going to do it because my concern right now lies with the 65, 000 cars on the road that are affected in this. And like I feel like I don't want to rest until all 65, 000 of those people are made aware. Yeah, just aware.
Liz
I think then you're doing your diligence. I think that's the right thing to do.
Kelly
Yeah. So anyway, okay, let's just try and
Liz
there's never a good way to transition out of these things. So let's just move on to ditch
Kelly
the drive through where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of y' all dinner. Do you have one or do I have.
Liz
I do have one. And it's like I'm sorry. I, I. I think I made the lame version, but I think you could judge it up.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
We talk a lot about
Sponsor/Ad Reader
pork.
Liz
Barbecue pulled pork nachos.
Kelly
We talk about barbecue pulled pork nachos an insane amount.
Liz
Like, kind of a ridiculous amount. And I was like, james, what do you want for dinner? He goes, nachos. I'm like, okay, well, I literally just thought out ground beef. I was gonna make crunch wraps. Also something I talk about a lot. But what if I just made nachos?
Kelly
Okay. This is giving Kelly's base model luxury. Like, nachos are your Ditch the drive through.
Liz
Yeah. I'll be honest. That's what I made for dinner night. I had queso. I put ground beef on top. I did cheese, and then, like, whatever. That's what my kids wanted. And then I have, like, salsa and jalapenos and tomatoes and onions. And then, like, I have, like, and, like, load up the ground beef. So it's like, it's just, like a different. I saw this reel, and it was like. Like, I didn't know that adulthood was me forever trying to decide how I was going to prepare ground beef or chicken. It's just another way to prepare. Funny to serve ground beef. I'm sorry.
Kelly
Well, the drive is a little bit more. How would you say?
Liz
Has a little bit more. Okay, but wait, I want to say one more thing about my nachos.
Kelly
Literally, we're on the edge of our seats.
Liz
Literally had no dishes. Like, my dishwasher is empty right now, so I used a paper plate. And the kids, I have their dishes in the fridge, and I put it all in tin foil. So if you don't want to do dish. I had to clean the pan that made the ground beef. And if you don't want to do dishes. Nachos.
Kelly
Okay, well, mine is a little bit more. Has a little bit more Genesis qua to it.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
What does that mean, Lily? I have no idea. I have no idea.
Liz
Flair, baby.
Kelly
So this. I always make this around St. Patrick's Day because it involves corned beef.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Do you. And it's a Reuben sandwich. Let me tell you what a Reuben is. Have you ever had a Reuben?
Liz
I don't know that I have because I don't really like the color of the bee.
Kelly
Well, a Reuben is a classic grilled North American deli sandwich. Okay. It has corned beef, which you can just get, I believe, at your butcher. Swiss cheese sauerkraut, which is my favorite foods, and Thousand island dressing on rye bread.
Liz
Okay. I'm not in my deli sandwich era. But that you got. You had me at, well, you toast
Kelly
it, you toast it so it's cooked. So what's your name?
Liz
Well, this. Toasting it, cooking it, I guess that's fine. Anyway, you had me at Thousand island dressing.
Kelly
So I make it a couple times a year. It is like, you're like, this is so good. It just, it's one of those things that you're like, can't believe you made it at home. You're like, this is so tasty. And I am loving sauerkraut. So I don't think I can have Thousand island dressing on my sugar fast. But I do think I'm just gonna get corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut and eat that.
Liz
You know what else you could do is you could take ground beef and do all that. And then you could have a frisco melt because you do cheese, Thousand island dressing, some sourdough, and you have a frisco mellow.
Kelly
Well, and now it's worth. Now it's worth buying the bottle of Thousand island dressing.
Liz
And now it's worth buying the bottle a thousand two. Two meals in which someone told me.
Kelly
I read a comment somewhere, not sure that the dollar tree has smaller condiments.
Liz
That's what I need is smaller condiments. Back to Amazon. Selling two of everything to give me a better deal. Like literally just give me a smaller condiment. I have condiments just rotting away.
Kelly
Or bring, like I said a couple episodes ago, bring the technology. When I can like not open it all the way so I can store it in my pantry.
Liz
Yeah,
Kelly
that's like, that's what's not okay. It's like I have the pantry space. I only got the fruit. I don't got the side fridge space for all these dang condiments.
Liz
I know I don't got it. You want to know something so crazy? Some people aren't condiment families. Like their condiment. Like their, their fridge doors like aren't filled to the brim with condiments.
Kelly
What?
Liz
Isn't that crazy? I was at my sister in law's house one time and I was looking for hot sauce or something and I like opened it up. I'm like, why do you have literally no condiments in here?
Kelly
We should start a thread on the carple Facebook page when everyone just shares their fridge doors.
Liz
Yeah, mine is, mine is packed to the brim of condiments.
Kelly
Mine's packed. Mine's packed to the brim. Like I have bottles stored upside down so, like, I can fit more of them.
Liz
Yeah, yeah.
Kelly
And tell her always, like, what can we get rid of? And I'm like, nothing.
Liz
You know what? Something else I've learned in my. In my 40 days of last is, like, a good way to start a recipe is, like, what condiment do I have?
Kelly
You know, I'm. I need. I. I'm condiment heavy. I need to do that.
Liz
Oh, I have, like, half a bottle of Buffalo Wild Wings. Like, garlic parmesan. Like, what can I make with this? And then let's.
Kelly
We're having that for lunch. Yeah.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Tristine. Okay, guys, well, that's gonna be our episode. I mean, we are kind of an hour into this. Liz. I'm kind of tired, kind of getting loosey goosey.
Liz
I know. Me too. It's time to go to bed.
Kelly
Yeah.

Episode: Major Confession and a New Micro-Hobby
Date: March 18, 2026
In this engaging and deeply personal episode, Kelly and Lizz invite listeners into a candid conversation about everyday life as millennial moms, the joys and challenges of decluttering, reconnecting with their faith, handling Lent confessions, and finding small delights through “micro-hobbies.” The episode is rich with relatable anecdotes, practical tips for simplifying home life, reflections on maternal mental health, and the latest auto industry news—plus their signature, lighthearted banter and memorable quotables. A major segment addresses a tragic news story involving a Hyundai Palisade recall, showcasing their commitment to consumer advocacy and safety awareness.
Lizz’s new mindset: Her “flex” is not having more, but embracing much less and seeking simplicity—empty drawers, few possessions, clarity in home organization.
Related insight: Avoiding multi-packs on Amazon; owning multiples of things you don’t need leads to more clutter (40:09-41:25).
Philosophical tangent on toys: “Going deep” with repeat purchases of well-loved toys is sometimes better than “going wide” with new types; quality and flexibility (Legos, nuggets, rainbow cones) over novelty (41:39-45:40).
If you’re a mom needing solidarity, humor, and fresh perspectives on faith, family meals, decluttering, and everyday wins, this episode is a must-hear. Plus, it delivers a heartfelt call for product safety vigilance and serves as a reminder that the best “luxuries” are often the simplest things done with heart.
