Welcome to the Carpool podcast with Kelly.
Kelly
Yeah, there's not much I can say about that because I'm gonna, like, I'm on. I honestly don't like this episode because I'm feeling, like, really emotional, but that it's crazy to think like, like, part of me is like, oh, I should put a trigger warning on this. But then these are all fun in children's movies.
Unknown
And Liz, I have a very hard time watching almost all of the Disney movies because why does every character either lose a parent or get kidnapped?
Liz
Your mom.
Unknown
Time off starts now. Welcome back to the Carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. Something about being a sister is. Kelly and I both just gotten a mini fight and Kelly almost started crying. And then we both looked at her forehead that her spray tan hairnet screwed up, and now we're laughing and I'm recording a podcast like nothing just happened. And that's the only relationship you can have is with a sister like that. Because if you like getting a little tiff with a friend, it's sitting there with your husband. It's going to sit there for a couple days with a sister. Okay, start recording.
Kelly
It's over before it happens. And it's such. It's such a gift. And it's something you can't explain to anyone who doesn't have sisters. But Elizabeth literally just told me, like, some spewed some nasty things at me and I. Oh, I did not speak.
Unknown
I. Wait, first of all, do we just need to get into it again? I spewed nothing nasty. I said, you look like you have it all together. And you said, why does everyone Think I have it all together. I don't know. I'm gonna cry.
Kelly
And then I said, look at my forehead.
Unknown
And then we said, look at your forehead.
Kelly
It's so bad.
Unknown
It's so bad. But we have our photo shoot today, the day that this podcast comes out. I'm so excited for it.
Kelly
I don't even know what to expect. But, like, when we say photo shoot, like, this is not. We're getting photos taken. This is, like a studio editorial. It's. It is editorial. It's vogue.
Unknown
It's.
Kelly
Folks, I'm very excited. I was thinking, so these photos are, like, so tenfold, because, like, 1. We're gonna use them for our new podcast cover photo. Like, you guys are gonna be gooped and gagged when you see our plan for that. We have, like, photos just, like, for the website. Like, the karma. I'm like, is getting some headshots. You know, stuff like that. But I also told Tyler, like, now if I die, this is the photo you use. Because, like, up until now, it was probably, like, my senior photo slash, my wedding photo.
Unknown
No, honestly, I think it's you, like, posing next to a car.
Kelly
Well, I'm just saying, like, now it's these photos, and, like, it will be these photos probably until I'm like, unless, like, I'll probably.
Unknown
It's like when you start going gray.
Kelly
When they start going gray, and then I'll figure something else out. But, like, these are the photo. Like, this is the photo.
Unknown
Oh, wow. Okay.
Kelly
It's like, editorial. Like, picture is like my obituary pick, just in case.
Unknown
Okay, so again, we're doing a photo shoot, podcast picks, website pics, obitch pics, and it's gonna be. And I'm. I'm hoping they turn out. We were, like, a little bit bold to do this five months postpartum, because I don't think that I'm where I would have liked to be, but whatever.
Kelly
Well, I think it's where we are, though. It's so.
Unknown
And that's where we're. It's where I'm gonna be for the next several. Yeah, well, we will redo them when I'm, like, multiple years post having kids.
Kelly
Okay, good.
Unknown
Probably some. We'll need. We'll need some new obituary pictures by then, anyway.
Kelly
So, anyway, we're just over here, like, getting, like. We've been getting glamazoned all week again. Thank goodness. We were. We. We weren't sick this week, and we're.
Unknown
On the mend, thank goodness.
Kelly
But we both have nails, and I just want to like kind of give a. I wanted to just like show some appreciation for press on nails. Because a while ago you came on the podcast and like, we're really campaigning for press on nails. And I'm going to be honest, like, I completely wrote you off. I think I was actually rude about it, probably, if we can recall. And then, you know, now I live further from St. Louis. Like, my time is always short and I just simply don't have time to go get a dip manicure. Like, I just don't have that time.
Unknown
And it's a. It's a horrible experience.
Kelly
It's not a fun. It's like going to the dentist.
Unknown
It's. It is like going to the dentist. I'd rather go to the dentist. Dentist takes less time.
Kelly
Right? You don't have to go every six months. Like, it's just not fun. So at the dinner auction though, you know, I was post sick. I was doing anything I could to try to glow up and I'm like, you know what? What if I just bought these $6 press on nails from Target? Like, what could go wrong? So I bought them, I put them on, and they looked average, but the box was checked. Box was checked. Like, you know, from a distance, I looked like this put together girl who had a French manicure. Yeah, it was my first time trying it out. But then I texted my friend Ashley because her press on nails always look so good. And I'm like, hey, where do you get your press on nails from? And she's like, my sister makes them for me. And apparently she's talked about this on her stories before, but I guess I just like didn't understand that. I guess I thought her sister was doing her nails, not like just giving her press ons.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
So her sister is like aspiring makeup artist or sorry, nail artist, and she can make you custom press on nails so I can look like anything you want and they're custom to your nail beds. So I texted her, I texted her sister and I was like, I want to do this. Cause she lives very close to me. And she's like, okay, just text me a picture of your hand with a quarter next to it so I can like see the. See the nails, See how big your nails are. So I did that.
Unknown
That's all it took.
Kelly
That's all it took.
Unknown
Oh, okay.
Kelly
Did one photo like with my four fingers and then one photo with my thumb. Texted it over to her. She goes, what do you want? I'm like, I want like a, you know, a classic, like smoky pastel Blue carmine blue classic. She's like, what shape? I was like, you know, I typically do like an almond, oval, ish kind of vibe. And I was like, I want them really short. And she made these for me.
Unknown
Yeah, they look great.
Kelly
They look incredible. They were. She charged me $10. Felt like a freaking steal.
Unknown
Totally, totally a steal.
Kelly
And she also gave me like a little kit, so I had like a cuticle thing. It had like this super strong glue. And Ashley says hers last too goes, if they're. If, if it's a good fit on the nail and you use her glue, you should get 10 to 14 days. Wow. There is no way. I am way too hard on things. There is no way I will get 10 to 14 days.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
If I get seven, it's a win.
Unknown
It's a total one.
Kelly
Total.
Unknown
Well, because I, I buy Kiss Press On Nails and lately I've been getting inundated with Glamnetic Instagram ads. Sorry. Now since I've said it out loud, everyone's going to get these ads. They're $15. So now your 10 is looking even better. And the thing that I hate most about Press on Nails is the process of figuring out which ones. They give you 30 in a pack, and you have to figure out which ones fit each finger. And I, that's, that is the most time consuming and it's the hardest part of the entire process. So the fact that you are skipping that is also a huge one.
Kelly
Yeah, I mean, it took me just minutes to put them on because, yeah, they were just all organized. Left hand, right hand, put them on. So I'm gonna get you, I'm gonna get you a set.
Unknown
Okay, perfect.
Kelly
Take a picture your nails with a quarter.
Unknown
Good. I'm, I'm here for it because I use Press on Nails. You're. This is your second time, so you're, you're not going to know the difference. So I'll be honest and, and determine if, if they are that much better. But I mean, it's probably $4 more, so.
Kelly
Well, and it's also so fun because she can just do whatever you want. And Ashley says she prefers to do like designs and stuff.
Unknown
And I'm sure designs cost more.
Kelly
It's. It's a two dollar upcharge.
Unknown
Oh, wow.
Kelly
Again, she needs to raise her prices. But, you know, that's just the perks I think of living in a rural area and kind of my new, my new kind of theory in life is I live in a town. How many even live in the town that I live In I want to say, like, maybe it's like the actual town is like maybe like 20,000. And then there's like, all, like, these surrounding smaller towns.
Unknown
15,000.
Kelly
Okay, 15,000 live in the town. And I just, like, don't not gonna, like, say the town for, like, you know, privacy reasons. But anyway, it's a smaller town. And my new theory is, like, I'm just squeezing this little town for everything it's worth.
Unknown
Mm.
Kelly
And I'm. I'm getting creative, I'm doing the networking. Like, I want to know the things is that, like, we're not riddled with nail salons in this town. So that's why I'm, like, so happy that I have this, like, new creative, like, way of, like, getting my, like, sourcing a manicure in my town.
Unknown
Yeah. And then you're helping, you know, someone who's start doing a business. Starting a business in your own town, which feels so good. Totally.
Kelly
So I'm just like, whenever, like, I'm talking to my friends who live in this town, I'm just like, saying, so where do you get this at? What do you do here? Like, one of my friends was telling me, you know, at this barber shop is a barbershop haircutting place, and one of the people is trained in lymphatic drainage massages. And it's like, that would have been good to know for my flu.
Unknown
And that's just the thing that I'm really taking from you as you're on this journey is it's just find your plate, find your places and get creative. And, like, what can your area offer you?
Kelly
Right.
Unknown
And you're just. You are. What is the term you are? Sprout. Sprouting where you're planted.
Kelly
I'm blooming where I'm planted.
Unknown
You're blooming where you're planted?
Kelly
I'm blooming where I'm planted. Like, another example is I went to get a spray tan in my town, and they also have red light therapy. I'm like, what's red light therapy? I'd like to know. Sure. I'll do a red light therapy session.
Unknown
Yeah, my spray. My spray tan place just got that too. Must be a hot new thing.
Kelly
Yeah. So anyway, I'm just kind of like. And you know, it's just like, just like how I go to, like, the hospital cafe in my town for, like, a decent wrap.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
You know, I'm squeezing it for everything it's worth. I love my press on nails. I, like, can't stop staring at them in the Monitor.
Unknown
Cal, we. I think everyone is dying to know how you reacted to your shout out on the toast.
Kelly
Oh, this was really exciting.
Unknown
Kelly called me and said, this is the best day of my entire life. You'll never guess what just happened. Okay. And I. I don't even know what I could have thought had happened, but it certainly wasn't a shout out on a podcast.
Kelly
So I. I really like the toast podcast. Like, I've just. It's very. It's. And it's just. They just entertain me, and that's just all I'm looking for. Like, it's in their sisters and whatever. I've been listening to it for a long, long time. And it's so fun because, like, now Grayson is, like, in the last year, Grayson started listening. And I think it went from being like this millennial chuggy thing that I used to do to, you know, now she's on the. On the rat race grind, and now she's looking for some simulation in her life. And so now she listens to the podcast. So I started getting DMs, being like, they mentioned you on the toast. And I was with Grayson, because me and Grayson, I was working at BMW and we were out to lunch, and so I, like, turned it on. They start talking about cars, and I was like, okay, like, let's just listen. Maybe they're gonna bring me up. And Grayson started filming, which was fun. And then Jackie says, well, the car mom. And they talked about me, and it was really cool.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
And of course, then immediately I'm like, we gotta shoot this shot. So we make a reel. I do a dm. I'm, you know, just trying to get in front of people in any way I can. And then they reposted my reel.
Unknown
Yeah, there's a big. It was a big moment.
Kelly
Anything less sense. But I really do, like. I mean, I've gotten a lot of good feedback on these, like, celebrity car shops, like I did for Danny Austin and Claudia. And we've always wanted to, like, I think, somehow film the consults, but it just, like, didn't really work with, like, regular, regular people. Only because then I'm like, hey, you know, can I use this situation? Can I do this? Blah, blah. And we always tried to. We always tried to film them live and then edit them down, but instead just doing this, like, summary. I think it's, like, a really good piece of content because I could do it for regular people and just be like, hey, I got. You know, recently I had a consultation of a mom expecting twins and Here are the three cars. I recommend the tour.
Unknown
Well, and I do think you kind of do that on the podcast. And, yeah, I think that the cars, it's, you know, Expedition Odyssey, Palisade, Atlas. Like, we're getting kind of the same ones. What I like about these. These other ones is, like, Claudia could drive anything. It's. It was a very fun. It's like one kid, and she wants it to be, like, a cool car, and it's gonna be a luxury car. So it kind of stretches what your normal answers are as well, which I think is fun for you and also fun for people to hear.
Kelly
And I actually think I'm so. By Rex. My number one wreck is probably the Genesis GV80 for her, and I actually think that's a really inspired choice, and I totally see that. I don't think they'll do it, but, like, that trust, like, in my professional experience, like, that is a good choice for them.
Unknown
I would agree.
Kelly
But we'll see.
Unknown
I was really fun.
Kelly
Pretty cool. Who else would be like, I don't know. Well, you know, I have my. I have my heart set on Kylie. Kelsey, because she talked about minivans on our podcast.
Unknown
Yeah. Yeah.
Kelly
So that's kind of like. And don't think my show, of course. Obviously, I. Obviously, I DM'd multiple times, which I was like, shoot, Shine. You know what I mean?
Unknown
Totally. Okay. Cal. Well, moving on, I was thinking we could play a new game.
Kelly
Okay.
Unknown
Model Lineup. Because we still haven't come up with a better name, so that's.
Kelly
I don't. I think Model Lineup is fun.
Unknown
Oh, okay. The other day when I told you about it, you didn't seem very excited about it.
Kelly
Well, I don't like the idea very much in general, but I. It's not. It's not the name. No, I'm sorry. It's not that. I'm sorry. That came out wrong. It's not that I don't like it. I don't really get it, but the name has something to do with it.
Unknown
Oh.
Kelly
But I think it just kind of. We need to get our feet wet.
Unknown
And see, it's a version of the Great Eight that's less redundant than the Great Eight is what I'm trying to get at.
Kelly
We pick four of a topic because we inspired this after Mount Rushmore.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
We pick four.
Unknown
We pick our model. We have a topic, and then we're going to pick our model lineup, and we're going to pick for things. We're gonna go back and forth. We're Gonna discuss. And then we're going to let the carpoolers determine who had a better model lineup.
Kelly
Yeah, I think so.
Unknown
Today's model lineup is tragic Disney parent deaths. Because why.
Kelly
We did not say parent deaths.
Unknown
It was.
Kelly
I was just under the assumption it was Disney deaths.
Unknown
Oh, see, now, I thought it was Disney parent deaths. So that's fine. I think that's okay. But it does. I still do want to talk about the fact that I have a very hard time watching almost all of the Disney movies because why does every character either lose a parent or get kidnapped? Why is that the. Why is that the narrative all the time? And watching it as a parent didn't phase me the slightest as a kid. Re watching it as a parent. I. I have to fast forward through some of these scenes. I'm so much more emotional now than I ever before.
Kelly
Yeah, I don't know. You know, I guess it's for the plot. It feels lazy in the same way. You know, I feel like lately now there's no good. The only way a show can be good is if they, like, make it so violent for. And they did in, like, for example, House of Dragon. Like, I liked Game of Thrones. I watched it. We all did House of Dragon. Like, I can't stomach these episodes. Like, the most egregious, disgusting, horrible things are happening to these characters, and it's like, can you just not think of anything more shocking to write? So you're just, like, killing a child instead?
Unknown
Yeah, totally. Totally.
Kelly
Not saying that's what Disney's doing. It's just saying, like, the character arc. Everyone is a chip on their shoulder in a Disney movie.
Unknown
Mm, totally.
Kelly
In this case, like, a missing person. Now, mine are not just parental death, but I feel like they're iconic and, like, they need their place in the sun.
Unknown
Okay, so we're kind of going out at two different areas. I'm not really sure how this is gonna go because I have only been thinking about the parents that die.
Kelly
Okay, so now we'll see. But so the rule is, like, we have to have different force. Like, if you say one of mine before I say it, like, I'm done. And Danzo. So we're going to go. We're going to go popcorn style every other.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
Okay. Can I go first?
Unknown
Sure.
Kelly
Or should you get to go first?
Unknown
I don't care. Do you want. Do you want. Do you want to go first?
Kelly
I mean, I think going first is the. Is the advantage.
Unknown
I know. I'm afraid you're going to take mine.
Kelly
Yeah. So I wouldn't like to go first.
Unknown
Okay, fine.
Kelly
Okay. I just, like, have to say it's. And. And why I think this one is so trauma is, like, we see it and more or less of a sense. Like, it's not like, something that, like, existed like, before the movie started. Like, it's at the start of the movie.
Unknown
Huh.
Kelly
And it's Nemo's mom that was on mine.
Unknown
Okay. Yeah. Nemo's mom is. Nemo's mom is tragic. No, it's not just Nemo's mom. It's all of Nemo's siblings.
Kelly
And all of Nemo's siblings get attacked by a barracuda.
Unknown
And it's scary. It's a jump scare.
Kelly
It's a jump scare. And also, it begs the questions, like. And I hate to, like, bring Coral into this, and that's her name. Like, I hate to speak ill of the dead, but Marlin or Merlin is the name. Marlon Merlin. Merlin specifically said, don't go to the eggs. Like, they. He will not notice them. And then she did it anyway. Drew attention to him.
Unknown
Dang.
Kelly
So I'm not, like, I don't want to put that blood on her hands, but, like, if you just would have gone stay hidden and not tried to go to the den with the eggs, maybe it all would have, like, come out differently.
Unknown
Yeah, but you're a mother. Would you have done that?
Kelly
Well, if your kids.
Unknown
Okay, hear me out. If you're in the house and your kids are. Stop.
Kelly
Elizabeth, stop. I'm not. That's not fair. I'm not. That's not fair. Has nothing to do with Kelly.
Unknown
No, it is fair because you are slandering Coral when you would have done the same thing.
Kelly
I'm not slander. But also Coral versus Barracuda Coral. What was your. What was Coral's play?
Unknown
I'm done talking about her maternal and six cake, then.
Kelly
I'm not talking about it. I don't like it.
Unknown
Okay. Another one that is just wildly unnecessary to think about or see. And I never really realized it until I rewatched it as an adult. And that is the death of Tarzan's parents.
Kelly
That was my next one.
Unknown
Tarzan's parents are mauled by what? A jaguar or something. I haven't seen. I haven't. I haven't not seen Tarzan in many, many years. But they are mauled by an animal. And this is sad twofold, because he loses both of his parents, and then also he's just this baby who's, you know, luckily gets swept up by. By A lovely ape. Ape. But tragic. Yeah.
Kelly
There's not much I can say about that because I'm gonna, like. I'm on. I honestly don't like this episode because I'm feeling, like, really emotional. But then it's crazy to think, like. Like, part of me is like, oh, I should put a trigger warning on this. But then these are all fun in children's movies, so they're really. So we actually all need to apparently grow up and stomach it because our children are.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
This is bizarre.
Unknown
It's bizarre.
Kelly
Okay. Yeah, I do think that that's solid. Tarzan's parents.
Unknown
Okay.
Kelly
Similar. Bambi's mom.
Unknown
Bambi was on my dad. Kelly. You did have a lot of parents. Bambi's mom.
Kelly
What is that all about?
Unknown
Now, this one is really, really sad because it's an animal. And I know. I know that finding Nemo was animal, too. But a fish does not have the same. I don't feel the same way to a fish dying as I do to a cute deer.
Kelly
No. And here's why. It's also different. Nemo's. I don't know. Coral from Adam. I don't know.
Unknown
Totally, totally.
Kelly
We spend so much of the movie learning about Bami's mom and their beautiful relationship.
Unknown
Yeah. What? Totally, totally.
Kelly
Okay, what's your next one?
Unknown
Okay, well, since we're. We're not just doing parents, I'm gonna take a. A hot one. And that's Ellie from Elizabeth.
Kelly
That was on my list.
Unknown
I think we can all agree that that one is okay. It'll make you cry.
Kelly
Well, Ellie just didn't deserve it. I mean, years. I mean, years of infertility, saving up.
Unknown
Never. Never got to go on her big adventure. And it's also just the way that it was shot in the shot and drawn animated. It's got the background music. It's a montage. So that one's that one. Honestly, it's not that tragic, I will say. But it is really. It's sad. But you know what? It's not. I'm kind of almost taking it back because it's not even that tragic. It's just kind of. She got old. She died of old age.
Kelly
Well, but I think. Here's the thing, though. There's something almost. It's. It's more than that, though, because you could also argue, like, she died with a lot of regrets because she never had to do these things. And her derpy, crabby husband.
Unknown
I don't think he was derpy and crabby before. He wasn't. Well, you Know some.
Kelly
Okay, well, I'm really salty that you took that one.
Unknown
I'm sorry. And I should have given it to you because I actually don't like it that much. Do you want it?
Kelly
Well, yeah, I honestly do.
Unknown
Okay. I honestly do.
Kelly
Okay.
Unknown
I'm gonna give you up because, because here's. Because now I'm gonna, now I'm gonna slander Ellie on, on this, on the scale. I just want everyone to keep this in mind. While some of these parent deaths are leaving children behind, she's just leaving regret. So, you know, is it that bad?
Kelly
Well, I think it's sad for the person who, I think it's sad for the people who maybe see themselves in.
Unknown
Ellie a little bit. Okay. Okay, well, I'm going to, I'm gonna say another one then. This one is really bad. I actually have to skip this one every time I watch this movie with James. And also, truth be told, I've never been able, I've never actually sat through the live action version of it because I think the live action, they should have never made it a live action because I think that this death is too traumatizing to see in a non animated version. And that's Mufasa's death. Mm. He saved his son. Heroic Mufasa is a 10 out of 10 character. 10 out of 10, dad. And it's the stampede, it's the helplessness, and it's the ultimate betrayal from Scar that it's such a layered death that I can't watch it. I can't watch it.
Kelly
And I just don't know. Like, I think also, like, for us, like, Mufasa is such a fun character. Like I would have like, loved just to see so many of the deaths just feel unnecessary. Well, and I would make the argument the Lion King not even, doesn't even feel that unnecessary, but Nemo's death does because Nemo still could have gotten lost at sea with both parents intact.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
You know, yeah. Like Tarzan could have like had been in the jungle. I guess maybe Tarzan's death was pretty necessary or Tarzan's parents death.
Unknown
But I do think that Nemo, Nemo the reason that. Well, yeah, Nemo could have gotten lost. Yeah. But Merlin was like such a, such a helicopter parent because of.
Kelly
Oh, I think there's plenty of helicopter parents. I, I, I think we just could have done another backstory. I don't know. I can't even explain it.
Unknown
Okay, okay.
Kelly
My last one in this, It's a niche, but it, it's niche.
Unknown
Okay.
Kelly
Coda's mother From Brother Bear.
Unknown
I don't remember that one. Okay. What happened?
Kelly
Do you know Brother Bear?
Unknown
I know Brother Bear, but I don't remember. Okay. Yeah, because I know that she dies. Because then he ends up with brother bear or with the older bear, the.
Kelly
The guy Kenai hunts. The bear who caused his brother's death. But that was Koda's mom.
Unknown
How did she cause his brother's death?
Kelly
Well, that's controversial, but it was. It was an accident because, like, he was. Because, like, the. The people were, like, not vibing well with the bears.
Unknown
But the bears were.
Kelly
Just, like, trying to, like, be in their own space. And what's sad about the. What's. What's really the most sad about the brother bear? Koda. Koda's mom saga is Kenai knows that he killed Koda's mom, but Koda doesn't find out till much later in the movie, and he's, like, waiting for his mom to come back.
Unknown
Oh, stop.
Kelly
And I just know that it was him. Like, it's so sad. It's so sad.
Unknown
So sad. Okay, well, I. Actually, since I gave you up, I have two more that I have to get to, so that's enough.
Kelly
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. What do you mean, get one more?
Unknown
Kelly, you have four. I have two.
Kelly
No, you have more than two.
Unknown
What are you talking about? What do I have? I have Tarzan and Lion King.
Kelly
Oh, okay.
Unknown
I gave you up, so you didn't have to talk about it. So we're. We're thrown off. I'm kind of surprised that you did not bring this one up. I thought. I actually didn't have this one on my list because I thought the stumpies would definitely have this one, and that is Anna and Elsa's parents.
Kelly
I don't. They still had each other. I just think on, like, terms of tragedy.
Unknown
Like, I just think, like, on terms.
Kelly
Lost all of his siblings. Like.
Unknown
Yeah, but he didn't know them.
Kelly
He didn't know them, and he never will. And I think that's.
Unknown
And. And I think that makes it easier. I think your parents losing both of your parents. Not many of these lose both of their parents. I don't know, Liz, at the same time.
Kelly
I mean, that's fine. I mean, put it on your list. I don't. I don't. I think the four I have are more tragic than. Than. Than. And let's be clear. They're all tragic, but it's also. It's just not part of the movie, and, like, you move on from it, and it's just like, you know, it's a boat crash happened back then.
Unknown
You're just acting like these two, the King and queen of Arendelle, just perishing at sea. You're just acting like it's a drop in the bucket.
Kelly
It's par for the course.
Unknown
It's really. It's really not. And Elsa felt. So think about at what age that happened and then the loneliness that Elsa and Anna felt. They didn't have each other, Kel. That's what you're forgetting.
Kelly
That's fine. Put it on your list. No, no.
Unknown
You are arguing me, and I'm arguing you back because you are really not being kind or respectful to their parents. They didn't have each other. They were both alone. The gates were closed. Anna had no one. Elsa was alone. Luckily. Luckily, they. It came together, but they all kind of do. Okay. Okay. My last one kind of went through a lot of them. Okay. I'm gonna say, well, there's two I could do, but I think this one more will reach more people. How about the death of Bing Bong?
Kelly
In Bing Bong, Bing Bong was on my list.
Unknown
In inside out, he just. He sacrifices himself and that.
Kelly
He sacrificed himself.
Unknown
He sacrificed himself. He's gone now. You can't. Bing Bong sacrifices help in order to help, and his memory fades away. It feels like the death of a friend. It feels like the death of. Of a memory, and it also feels like the death of a childhood in a lot of ways. So while it's not a parent or a real person, it hurts. And I think that the way Bing Bong actually might help my case as far as who's going to win the lineup, it's. It's a viral sound. So let's all just think about the viral sound as we're thinking about who. Who won this. Kelly or Liz. Well, I think.
Kelly
But also now that I want to.
Unknown
Give go say Riley.
Kelly
It's also I find Bing Bong's death hard because he doesn't die actually on camera. So you have to. You're left with the question. So does he just sit there and suffer till he starves to death?
Unknown
I thought he fades away.
Kelly
Oh, do we see the fading?
Unknown
I think we see the fading.
Kelly
Oh, a fade sounds like a good way to go. That's not that sad. He's also an imaginary friend. So to review, my four coral with the barracuda coda's mom from Brother Bear, Ellie from Up, who left, who accomplished nothing she wanted to in life and then died. Horrible. And then my Last one was what?
Unknown
Bambi and.
Kelly
And Bambi who was hunted. And the Nemo's or the Nemo then Bambi's forced to live with his dad who doesn't really care about him. Is really Bambi's.
Unknown
Bambi's is. I'll give it to you. Bambi's is quite tragic. Nemo's is tough. But your words, not mine. Coral deserved it. So I don't remember brother Bear. And well, I think you're Ellie. Ally died the tragic death of living a long, full life.
Kelly
Okay, so what do you have?
Unknown
So to recap, mine is Tarzan's parents trying literally can't even talk about Tarzan's parents because it's gonna make me cry even thinking about Mufasa. Also gonna make me cry thinking about Frozen. I got two dual parent deaths. Like there's nothing worse. Nothing worse.
Kelly
Yeah.
Unknown
And Bing Bong sacrificing himself to save Riley.
Kelly
I feel good about Riley.
Unknown
I feel really good about mine.
Kelly
I want to. I think I'll just leave people with like, you got to ask your question. Like, why were Tarzan's parents there?
Unknown
You know, why were Tarzan. Why were Tarzan's parents there?
Kelly
Was it a shipwreck? Because I'd be so sad if it was a shipwreck. Like, they came, they survived that. They survived a shipwreck and a jaguar took them out. Or were they like, you know, trying to like, be scientists and like disrupt the ecosystem and why they bring their baby to do that?
Unknown
Oh, I'm. This is. I need the movie. Okay. Tarzan's parents weren't shipwrecked. They were marooned. What does that mean?
Kelly
I don't know.
Unknown
Okay. Their ship burned down. Okay.
Kelly
So they came this far when they come this far.
Unknown
So Tarzan's parents are cast ashore in an unknown area of Africa with Tarzan after the ship is burned down. So you could say they've had a rough go of it and they made this beautiful tree house trying to make the best of a bad situation. And things took a turn for the absolute worst. So I'll leave you. I'll leave you all with that.
Kelly
Okay, well, that was kind of fun. I don't know. We'll see.
Unknown
People say we'll see.
Kelly
Let's get into our next segment, which is industry news where we spilled a.
Unknown
Hot tea going on in the auto industry.
Kelly
And there's just one story. And that story is the Car1 Car of the Year has been announced. Congratulations to the Chevy Traverse for being the Car one Car of the year. It was a very tight race. Very tough decision on the car mom team's front. But ultimately, we felt very encouraged by the thoughtfulness of the redesign. And it was the first time since we've been doing this where we felt like family feedback was taken into account. And the car just serves. It's a very specific. The car to. To me and to us, serves a very specific purpose for. For, like, the family car segment. It's a big. It's a big car. It's giving families the space without giving them the price tag of a full size suv. But it's also so stylish. Like, it's just. It's not just like the old Chevy Traverse I felt like was just about the space, and this one's about the space, the styling, the car seat setup, the technology. It's just. It's a great redesign.
Unknown
It's a great redesign. It. It was a close. It was a close call. There were a lot of good redesigns. But I totally agree. They. They had families in mind, and it was so, so clear that they did. And, I mean, that's why the car mom car of the year is a thing. It is to recognize and award the manufacturers and models that are improving for families. Yeah. So we're really.
Kelly
We're really excited about her.
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
Unfortunately, I had it as a press car last week, and we were supposed to, like, make a lot of content with it.
Unknown
Oh. The way we had so many plans.
Kelly
And we had the flu, and now I don't have one, but we got a couple of pictures, and I mean, I've done like, several. A ton of Traverse content, but they finally sent one in white. Like, I was so tired of that red one they kept sending me.
Unknown
Oh, my gosh. I know. The white looked so good.
Kelly
The white looked so good. Red is kind of like the new. The new color right now color. And it needs to stop being. Because, like, we were all doing blue for a while, and then I think they just decided to stop blue, and that was a bad idea.
Unknown
Mm. I loved the blue, though.
Kelly
Yeah, I think most people do. So. Yeah. So that.
Unknown
Okay, well, since that's all your. Since that's all your industry news, do you want to do, like, a couple advice questions.
Kelly
Maybe? Like, one.
Unknown
Okay. Okay. Well, from two kids to four kids, AKA I need some car advice.
Kelly
Classic.
Unknown
We just found out we're expecting twins. This is exciting news, but we have a lot to think about in terms of a car. We were already in the used car market and pretty sold on an atlas. Now that we're going to have four children, we're looking at full size SUVs. I really don't want a van. Our budget is 30K. I don't really care about tech. So an older car is fine. When the twins arrive, our older 2 will be 4 and 2 years old. Our 4 year old will be forward facing. Our 2 year old may not be forward facing by then.
Kelly
This is really hard.
Unknown
Yeah. You might need to get a van.
Kelly
Well, I don't want to tell people, I don't want to tell people what to do. I don't think that's helpful. But I would say like I, I think a van bang for your buck wise is probably really smart. Also knowing especially if you're going to have three rear facing kids with a thirty thousand dollar budget, it just kind of feels like you'll be able to get a nicer newer van versus like I mean to get. I. So I, I like the van idea. I think the bigger problem is if you go full size and you, if you go full size, I just don't know if you'll have enough trunk space unless you go like extra full size. Whereas like you get like the Expedition Max or the Suburban or the Yukon xl. Because when you're going to need like everyday use of that third row, I think you'll just be like looking for, for extra space. Yeah.
Unknown
Like that double stroller is not going to fit super well with the third row up.
Kelly
Exactly. So then if that's the case, I'm going to look up. Let me just show you. Let's go to. Let's. I'm looking up. I'm on edmunds.com looking up expeditions or 30. I also kind of like don't really care if it's an Expedition or a Suburban at this point because I would, I would just tell you to probably like go after the deal a little bit more.
Unknown
Mm.
Kelly
And they're just gonna be hard to find. Like here's a 2018 with 106,000 miles on it for 26.
Unknown
And that's an, that's an Max or just an Expedition.
Kelly
That is just an expedition.
Unknown
So basically the advice is start looking now. It might be out there. Look on Edmonds the Expedition solo might not be enough trunk space. Something to consider.
Kelly
Yeah. Yeah.
Unknown
Really marinate well. I mean yeah, like you said if you, if you don't want to van, you don't want a van. But you will get more bang for your buck and more and better trunk and cargo storage if you do that.
Kelly
And here's what I would say. Like first of all I, the problem is, I mean for, for so many reasons, but going from three kids to four kids is crazy. And in your case, going from two kids to four kids is very hard to do from a car's perspective. Because like my answers for three versus as I'm sure you were thinking, like, oh, we'll have one more. Now we have two. Like, that really does rock the boat in a ton of ways. So I feel for you there, I think that you could find a full size SUV for 30. I really feel like my advice is more just like to me, I would prioritize the deal over the specific car because also like your car seat setup is so hard regardless, it's like going to be really hard in an expedition. It's going to be like really hard at a Yukon. Like it's just gonna be, it's gonna be really hard in a van. Like that's just it. This, this window is the most difficult. But when you're gonna shop that old to get to that $30,000 price point of the incredibly expensive full size SUVs, I think you need to be very mindful about making sure it's a good, a good car. So like I would cross reference the year with, with the Consumer Reports reliability scores. I would take it to a mechanic. I would really examine the car facts because these full CVs are expensive and they can be expensive to maintain and expensive if things go wrong. So that's where I'm just feeling.
Unknown
A.
Kelly
Little pause because like, I mean if you and take the budget out of it. But like if you asked me somebody who needed like a, like a 2018 car, I wouldn't probably recommend a General Motors or a Ford car. Like if we were going back that far because they don't have the reliability like we find in the Toyota and the Honda and the Lexus and the Mazda and even like the Hyundai vehicles. So that's where I'm really struggling.
Unknown
Okay.
Kelly
To like, not that it's not out there, but if I think like reliability wise, those cars don't have the reliability that other manufacturers have at that age of vehicle.
Unknown
Yeah. It's a tough situation for sure. Yeah. Okay, well, are you ready for Ditch the Drive Thru where you give you, we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut.
Kelly
Sure.
Unknown
So today's the Ditch the Drive Thru is going to be a, a take on honestly a pasta and marinara sauce. And that's just the reminder that you can do that EAS or even easier of A meal if you just do, like, a tortellini or a ravioli. And mom made this for me the other day when my family was sick and we or I was sick, and she was like, let me just bring you something to eat. And, like, I could have made it. She came in and made it. But it's, like, a good thing to drop off to someone too. It's ingredients that are very easy to drop off. And so for me, she made me, like, a beef ravioli. Make it, like pasta and marinara sauce. Done, done, done. Veggie on the side, if you want.
Kelly
Yeah. Ravioli is a fun idea. We've had raviolis in a while because George doesn't like cheese. But I do. Forget about the beef ravioli vibe.
Unknown
There's beef ravioli. You can do, like, a lobster ravioli. Like, the world is really your oyster. And you can do a marinara sauce. You can do, like, a pesto. A pesto. You could just do butter and salt and parmesan. So just a reminder that tortellini and ravioli exist, and they're very easy to make.
Kelly
I've been, like, kind of, like, on my Blackstone grind this week, which has been really fun for me because it's, like, kind of nice weather. So we did pork chops on the Blackstone, and they were excellent. And I'm getting. You know, the Blackstone feels so looming because you're like, oh, I have to clean it. But, like, it does not take that long to clean, and I enjoy cleaning it more than I enjoy, like, scrubbing dishes. You know what I mean?
Unknown
Totally. Yeah.
Kelly
So, yeah, I'm really excited to, like, really get on the Blackstone grind a little bit more. We didn't use it much this winter because, you know, it is hard and it is cold, and who wants to be out there?
Unknown
Yeah.
Kelly
But wow.
Unknown
Put on a nice day.
Kelly
And I did all my breakfast meats first just to, like, prep. So I did bacon and sausage, and then I threw on the pork chops, and then I threw on some broccoli on the Blackstone, and I was just like, what else could I Blackstone?
Unknown
Like, what else can I put on while it's dirty?
Kelly
Yeah, while it's dirty, it's like, bring me something else.
Unknown
Yeah, totally. I really need to stock my fridge with some very foolproof, easy recipes to. To make, because I'm getting surgery tomorrow.
Kelly
Wow.
Unknown
It's like she feels like I'm gonna talk about our story, so I might as well, like, talk about it here. And so I will. The only thing Maddie has ever prepared for me is. Has been a taco ring. So I should probably just go and buy the ingredients for a taco ring, because I do imagine that's what I will be having for my meals. But, yeah, really quickly, it's like, no big deal, but I'm. I have a. A polyp in my uterus, and they're just going to do a little quick, little, like, removal of it, so.
Kelly
Such a cute word for such a not cute thing.
Unknown
Polyp is such a cute word. I actually love saying it.
Kelly
I know. I can tell.
Unknown
Polyp. Well, it's just kind of what's going on in my life. Like, it's a. It's a new thing that's happening.
Kelly
Totally. It's like, okay, polyp queen. Well, that was our episode. Let us know what you guys thought of the new segment, and we will see you, you know, next time you see us, we'll be on the Instagram at a photo shoot.
Unknown
