I hear glass shatter. I was like, what is that? And Tyler said a bad word, and he's like, you're gonna be so mad at me. And I was like, no, I'm not gonna be mad at you. I go upstairs, I see my broken candle, I see a blowtorch, and Liz.
Kelly
And I'm just so overwhelmed with all of this content that I'm like, hey, guys, we're all dying. Hate to be the girl to say it. Your mom.
Liz
Time off starts now. Welcome back to the Carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. And boy, do we have a show for you.
Kelly
Do we ever.
Liz
Actually, we just recorded.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Tuesday's episode.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And you're probably tuning back in to hear more about the tariff updates. And I'm so sorry to let you know the way that our recording schedule worked out, we have not been a. It's still Monday. As in the tariffs still have not gone into place.
Kelly
Yeah. So we don't know.
Liz
So come back next week.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
But if I had to guess, I would say that, like, more time, the better.
Kelly
I'm sure you'll react on your Instagram stories, don't you?
Liz
Totally. And I'm sure you're following me on.
Kelly
Instagram, but hope so.
Liz
Speaking of carpool podcasting, I texted Liz over the weekend, I'm ready to do a merch drop.
Kelly
Whoa. Okay, so now we have to do it now. There's no getting out of it.
Liz
Well, I have such a funny story. I haven't even told you that.
Kelly
What?
Liz
So my sister in law loves Thredup. Do you know what Thredup is?
Kelly
Yes. Is that. Is that where they, like, give you, like, send you clothes and then you, like. No outfits?
Liz
Thredup is like an online resale shop.
Kelly
Oh, yes, yes, yes.
Liz
So it's like Poshmark. It's actually excellent. And, like, I've actually bought things off of there because if you want, like, like, if you Know you. Because if you know you love, like, the Madewell 90 straight Jean. Well, go. Once you know what your size is and what you like, go on Thredup and get it for a lot cheaper. Like, and they do a really good job. I mean, my sister in law, Trina could speak to it, but, like, she's always telling me, like, they do such a good job. Like, they don't take crap clothes. Like, they only take good quality.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And she's like, a few times, like, I've bought something that they said was good condition. It wasn't. I sent them pictures. They refunded it and just told me to donate the item.
Kelly
The difference between Poshmark and Thredup is Poshmark is individuals are selling it. Thredup people send bags of their clothes and Thredup goes through them all and post them all. Yeah. And there's, like, a little bit more accountability.
Liz
Speaking of Poshmark, you know I told everybody that I bought that vest.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Well, I guess the girl follows me on Instagram because she, like, wrote me a note.
Kelly
No way.
Liz
Like, so it was like, my name or whatever. I love the karma. And sent me.
Kelly
That's cute.
Liz
It was cute. But anyway, so she loves Thredup all to say she's scrolling that up. The other day she sends me a picture and she's like, you're famous. And there was a carpool sweatshirt on thread up tough. But that made me think we could do better.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Because I want to make a sweatshirt so good that no one ever wants to get rid of it. No one would ever put it on Thredup.
Kelly
I'm. I'm.
Liz
Now I'm not mad because Trina was like, hey, they did take it.
Kelly
No, no, Thredup took it. Yeah, Thredup took it. Yeah.
Liz
Plato's Closet wouldn't have.
Kelly
No. Okay, well, you know, maybe it's just, like, so limited. Ish. A limited edition, though.
Liz
Yep. It was listed for 25.
Kelly
Okay, well, it was used. Okay. So what do you want our new sweatshirt to be?
Liz
Well, I mean, we haven't even debuted our new logo yet.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Our new carpool logo. You guys know we did a rebrand on the car. Mom, we have so many rebrands in business, so many are in the works. So we could, like, just do, like, a rebrand of our new logo. I don't always think it needs to be, like, something we say. I don't think we say anything that consistently. I think it's more just. And, you know, if we're also going to, like, make merch. Like, I know. I would rather just have, like, some walking billboards than I would, like, walking inside jokes.
Kelly
Yeah, that's true.
Liz
And then if it gets back on thr, people be like, oh, that sounds like an interesting podcast. The carpool.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I mean, our name couldn't be better for the podcast.
Kelly
Such a good name.
Liz
It's such a good name.
Kelly
It was my idea.
Liz
It was your idea.
Kelly
We were going to be. Our podcast name that we originally were going to do was company meeting.
Liz
Yeah. When I used to do those company meetings, those were fun. I know. Everyone tells me to bring them back. I don't know why. I just have such a.
Kelly
You know what else you used. You used to do company meetings. Used to do kombucha taste tests. Yeah. Come a long way.
Liz
It's been more fun. Now we do other stuff, though.
Kelly
More time.
Liz
Well, now we do other stuff.
Kelly
Yeah. I mean, I have had a kombucha in years.
Liz
I kind of off kombucha too.
Kelly
Kind of kombucha.
Liz
I don't think you're supposed to drink it when you're breastfeeding and all. Okay. You're not supposed to drink it when you're pregnant.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So maybe all I've been is breastfeeding.
Kelly
Maybe that's why we're off kombucha.
Liz
Like, I did them in my longest gap that I've had since. Since 29. So it's 20.
Kelly
2018.
Liz
I got pregnant in 2018.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
So since 2018, the longest non pregnancy gap I had was 18 months. That was between Hattie and Fred.
Kelly
And you hammered that kombucha.
Liz
And I hammered that kombucha because I stopped breastfeeding Hattie around nine months. So then I had nine months before I got pregnant.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I cannot wait to see who I am. 19 months postpartum.
Kelly
Yeah. I saw someone post on Instagram the other day and she was like, it. It take. It took me two years.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Postpartum. To feel like myself again. And she's like, that might. I don't know if she said this, but I'm gonna say it. That might sound. That's encouraging and also discouraging at the same time.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
It's only two years, but it is two years.
Liz
Yeah. Two years nonetheless.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Anyway.
Kelly
Anyway. Okay, so now we have to come up with a sweatshirt design, but I think that's good. I need some new. I need some new merch.
Liz
You know, I was just thinking maybe just doing our new logo.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
But I want to do like a Good sweatshirt.
Kelly
Well, you know what? And I think that that's what's important.
Liz
Like, not just like a gill and screen printed.
Kelly
No, I agree.
Liz
I want to do, like, a custom sweatshirt.
Kelly
Yeah, I agree. Okay. We are aligned. Okay, Cal. Well, we have quite the episode today. And I know that you were talking to me earlier, earlier this morning about something you want to talk about on the podcast, and that was your husband.
Liz
Yeah. I just think it's important to keep tabs, keep lists.
Kelly
I don't know if that's. I don't know if that's what the marriage counselors would say.
Liz
No, I don't think the marriage counselors would say that, but I know I. I think that. I'm not even saying I'm going to do anything with the list. I just like having the list. I feel power in having the list. Tyler has. And to his credit, like, I think he knows when it rains, it pours. Tyler's going through a klutzy phase.
Kelly
Oh, yeah.
Liz
Do you know what I mean?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So the other day, he's tine coin, which it's hard to complain when he's cleaning.
Kelly
Yeah, totally.
Liz
So he's. However, he's time going, and he, like. First of all, let me be clear. I don't care. I'm actually a. I'm a very chill person. I don't care. But I just, like, think he would care, and I want to remind him of the time where I was merciful.
Kelly
If this happened to you, he would care. So therefore, now you care.
Liz
Yes. So anyway, he's tying co and he hits the barstool. He had to hit the bar stool just right. The barstool tips over and it breaks. My beautiful bar stools. Yeah, the top of the bar stool broke.
Kelly
That stinks.
Liz
I said, ah, that stinks, didn't I? Didn't react. Go to my notes. Apple titled it things. Tyler broke.
Kelly
Barstool.
Liz
Now he's taking down the deck by the pool. And now let me be clear. I would have done way worse. So I don't really know if I can actually put this one in my toolbox or not, but he was trying to take off this deck to the pool, and he didn't do a very good. He probably did an excellent job because we didn't have to pay someone to do it. So this one probably doesn't count. Anyway, the deck fell and it broke one of our lights.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
Light.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I got a candle for Christmas. This one. This one he knows is bad. This one he knows is bad because this one you can't even hardly say it was an accident. I love these thing called. Excuse my language. There's a company called Big ass Candles, and I love them. They're like huge candles. They're like $100. I asked for it for Christmas for mom. They burn for, like, weeks. I mean, like, you would never, like, you know, you would just, like, light it whenever you wanted to. And they're beautiful, and, like, they just look cool. It's a big ass candle. Tyler has a. You know, we talked earlier about, like, his weird ice cube things. He's got. He's got another little quirk he has is he doesn't, like when the wax melts unevenly.
Kelly
Okay. I think that's. I think that's reasonable.
Liz
That's reasonable. So he's like, hey, just. If you light this, let's, like, let it get a whole layer of melted so, like, it melts down.
Kelly
That's candle ownership 101, right?
Liz
Okay. So I was like, fine. So we had friends over, and I lit my candle, like, knowing I was gonna, like, let it light for, like, you know, two hours. Me and my friend go downstairs and I hear glass shatter. I was like, what is that? And Tyler said. A Prof. Said it. Said I said a bad word. And he's like, you're gonna be so mad at me. And I was like, no, I'm not gonna be mad at you. I go upstairs, I see my broken candle. I see a blowtorch.
Kelly
Oh, what in it. Oh, okay. Can I do the story? So he tried to even out the wax with a blowtorch. He tried even out the wax with a blowtorch in your house?
Liz
What is wrong with him?
Kelly
Oh, let it burn.
Liz
Well, he's like, it just. So he. He tried to take first, like, a long lighter and just, like, melt the wax off the side of the candle.
Kelly
Also, do we have better things to do when you have guests over?
Liz
Well, it was. I just had a friend over.
Kelly
Oh, okay. I thought that, like, the husband was out there. Okay, psa. If your candle burns unevenly, wrap it with tin foil and light it. That will. That will keep all the heat in, and it will burn all the edges that haven't. Wait, say that again. You take tin foil. I mean, the big ass candle would be harder to do, but, like, just. You take a regular candle, if you have higher wax, you wrap the entire thing with tin foil and then you light it. And then, like, because the tin foil gets so hot on the edges and everything, it helps melt the wax appropriately.
Liz
So anyway, it Was like day three of lighting my, my beautiful candle and it shattered. So I go to my notes app, Candle. So now I for sure got him for candle and barstool.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So it's just like nice to know, like, if I break something, like if I like back my car into the garage and like hit something.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Here's all I'm going to say.
Kelly
First.
Liz
I just feel like I have power. And if he's like, oh my gosh, I can't believe you did that. I'm like, I'm going to say, I know. Like between like the candle, the bar stool, we're just not having good luck lately, are we?
Kelly
He's gonna say, darn it all.
Liz
Darn the luck.
Kelly
Darn the luck.
Liz
Again. I'm not saying you should take that advice, but I did. I really just wanted to tell everyone that candle story. Cuz it's just absolutely.
Kelly
That's insane.
Liz
And he knows it's insane. Like he did it and he was.
Kelly
Like, yeah, that was a bad idea.
Liz
Like he walked to the barn to go get his blowtorch. It's not like a blowtorch. I guess it is a blow. I don't know what it is.
Kelly
That's insane.
Liz
It's dramatic.
Kelly
It's dramatic. Also, if you're going to bring. Use the blowtorch, take the candle to the barn. Like, don't bring the blowtorch inside of the home. Take. Take the thing to the blowtorch.
Liz
So mad. I'm honestly just so mad at him.
Kelly
That's insane.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Okay, well, something I want to talk about. Okay. I like need to stay off Instagram for a little bit. I'm kind of getting burnt out on content and seeing things and that is with the non. And now I know I just talked about my armpit clay mask and I don't regret that. And this, this doesn't apply. It's more with like the, the toxic and chemicals and stuff in our food and it's just this, it's every person. Here are the swaps that I make at Costco. Are you buying this for your kids? Well, you're poisoning them. And it's all of this just like all of these things. And it's like hating on that UK app, which, like, I know people feel feel different ways about that UK app. And oh, this, this brand actually isn't good for you because it has a fragrance in it. Did you know that native deodorant has fragrances in it? How could they say that this is good? And I'm just so Overwhelmed with all of this content that I'm like, hey, guys, we're all dying. Hate to be the girl to say it. We're all dying. And, like, we're gonna die from something. So, like, what are the things that I'm just. I have to live my life, and I'm not. I'm not gonna. Here's what I'm not gonna do.
Liz
Live your life.
Kelly
I'm not gonna live my life without fragrances. This is what fragrances is, what it boiled down to. I was making it about more stuff at the beginning, but as I'm getting upset, I realized that it was about this fragrance reel that I saw. I'm going to wear perfume because I like it. It makes me feel pretty. My deodorant is going to have a fragrance in it. My soap is going to have a fragrance in it. If. If the thing that's going to kill me is going to be fragrances, that's how I'm going to go out things. I won't be giving up fragrances. Fragrances, spray tans, probably Botox. I've only gotten it once because I've been. I got it right before I was pregnant, and then I haven't been able to get it since. But I want to get back on that. Like, sugar. I'm not gonna give up sugar. Well, I'll die happy.
Liz
I think we all just need to have our thing. And I, like, there's always, like, one time, Ashley one time gave me, like, she just said something that was very comforting to me because, similar to, like, Tyler and his blowtorch thing, like, I also know I have, like, some weird quirks when it comes to motherhood. Like, I'm a chokey freak. Like, I cut Fred's blueberries like a grape. My kids never. Never heard of it. Like, we're only. We're quartering grapes. And George's five. Like, I just. I. That freaks me out. Like, whatever. I'm very. I'm just very protective over, like, chokies and Ashley's like, you know what? I just think, like, that's your thing, and that's how God made you, and there's a reason that you're like that. And, you know, just go with it.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And, like, she's not a chokey freak. Like, that's. That. That's not her thing. And then there's other things, like, she's super strict on that I, like, don't care about.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And I just think. I can't believe, like, we've come to a place in Our world where people don't have tolerance, tolerances for each other. It's like very strange.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Like we can't tolerate people caring about things that like differently. And so like I just think you have to choose what you care about and I think you can make some, some swaps. And I think we just, I don't think we focus enough on just like being 1% better anymore.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And I think you could just be like one if you want to. I think you could be 1% better.
Kelly
So it's like well, so. Right. And so, and I do talk a lot about the, you know, the making swaps for things like something that I'm not going to do is cook. Like I, I've swapped out to the caraway because that makes me feel better than like the, the Teflon coated stuff that I was using. So like that's what I'm doing. But I'm also going to wear perfume.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So and I also just think like anything in excess is bad and I think every, anything in moderation is acceptable. Like I think if you do anything in excess like you're going to hit a, A, a bad point to that.
Liz
Well, and I don't think so.
Kelly
I think if you wear so much fragrances and you are, you know, you've got candles that you're wearing perfume, you've got, if you do too much like sure, maybe it, maybe it'll be bad for you. But like I just think that and I also think if you're going on the other end of the spectrum where people who are living like the super non toxic lives are straight up eating sticks of butter. I think if you regularly eat a stick of butter, probably that's not very good for you either.
Liz
I think if it's working for you, it's working for you. I just think people need to just live, laugh, love their own life a little bit and I don't think you should do anything. I think at the end of the day like live your life, be grateful for like what you have in the health that you have. And I think you could like what if yourself to death truthfully.
Kelly
So really what I, and I agree with you, what I wanted to get at was like what are the things that like you're just not gonna live without? Like maybe it's bad for you, but like sure, you know, we're all slowly o like so spray tans.
Liz
Yeah, I like a spray tan.
Kelly
Yeah. Like do you have anything else that you're just.
Liz
Yeah, I mean I like a little, I like a Frozen forehead. I'm woman enough to admit that I like my aluminum deodorant. I am considering getting off that aluminum train. I, I am considering it. But, like, you know, you don't need to. You don't need to send me how bad it is because it's like, I'm here, I'm doing the things I'll consider. I also just, like, I think, like, I, I, I just also prioritize, like, trying to cut a little bit back on. Back on processed food as much as possible. I have noticed that, like, my kids just by default, get so much processed food, like, I don't even give it to them. Things just come out of nowhere. Like, you're at a birthday party and, like, you know, they have this. Or, like, they go to school and they have donuts there, which is fine. Like, I'm not. Yeah, I, I want my kids to live their life, and I want to live my life. So I just try to just think about limiting things that, like, I bring in and I buy. But I think the healthiest thing we can all do is just to stay out of each other's business a little bit. And I think, like, the mom shaming and the fear mongering on so many sides just, like, needs to chill.
Kelly
No, the fear mongering is, like, it's so annoying.
Liz
And I mean. But, you know, like, I struggle because I'm also like, yeah, sure. Like, I think Red 40 could probably leave our food. Like, that feels weird. Yeah, I'm probably, like, not gonna buy a lot of things with red 40 in it.
Kelly
I think we're all pretty much. Yeah.
Liz
And then it's, you know, I just think that. But then there's, like, the WI fi of it all. Like, so am I just being microwaved right now? Like, I don't know. I don't really get it. I'm confused.
Kelly
WI fi. I won't give up. You know, like, my phone, it's always gonna charge on my bedside table. Like, I. I don't have an alarm clock. So there's just certain things that I've kind of. People will say, like, don't do this, don't do this, don't do this, don't do this. And it's like, when do. When do you live your life? When do you. Like, I think if you live your life.
Liz
Yeah, I think. But I think if something's giving you conviction.
Kelly
Oh, somebody's giving you conviction. Stop doing it. Listen to it for sure. And I, I agree.
Liz
If you feel better about it, if you feel better about it. Like, I think you should listen to that.
Kelly
Yeah. And I agree.
Liz
I think, like, you're, you know, maybe she's like, you know, God, give me conviction for this for some reason.
Kelly
Yeah. Here's a.
Liz
Here's another quote. Here's a fast lane philosophy I'll leave you with. I think I've said it before. I'm gonna say it again. A healthy man has a thousand wishes. An unhealthy man has one Chills. So if you have your health, be grateful for it and realize that, like, if you lot, like, that's. There's people who. All they want to do is be healthy and they're not.
Kelly
Dang.
Liz
I don't really know how that ties into.
Kelly
I don't think it does. But I do like that one. I haven't heard that.
Liz
No, I like that one a lot.
Kelly
That's a good one.
Liz
And like, you know how you feel on, like, when you have, like, strep throat and you're like, I didn't appreciate it.
Kelly
Like, I have no idea what it feels like to be well ever again.
Liz
Yeah. Like, no, there's some people who actually have. Dealing with that, and they have. All they want to do is be healthy. And, you know, I think we live in a society where it's so, like, we so don't have contentment. Anyway, this skin a little deep for me.
Kelly
It is getting a little deep. So I want to.
Liz
Was really prepared.
Kelly
I want to go back to. I just really wanted to know, like, what are the things you wouldn't get?
Liz
I understand.
Kelly
And it just kind of like, took a new turn. And I'm sorry if I got a little emotional there. I just got really upset with someone telling me I can't have fragrances. Anyway, let's. Let's swim back over to the shallow end and do our last three transactions where we share our recent bank account.
Liz
Should we only include transactions that have artificial fragrance?
Kelly
No, I think I'm over that.
Liz
That was funny.
Kelly
You just got me a really fantastic perfume. And I think I was just triggered because after someone tried to shade me for having.
Liz
Well, also, no one tried to shame you. You saw a reel and you centered yourself in it.
Kelly
I did. I sent it. But she was centering me in it. The way she was speaking was centering me.
Liz
And that's another piece of advice I have. Like, you don't have to center yourself in it.
Kelly
You don't have to center yourself. But also, as a content creator, you don't need to try and shame everyone else. She was shameful well, she was rage baiting. Maybe she was. And maybe she was. And also maybe she wasn't. And I did center myself too hard. I think two things can be true at once. Anyway, let's dive into our last three transactions.
Liz
Okay. One thing about me, I'm lathered up still about Corolla clicks. Like, you can't catch me. I'll Corolla collects. Let me back up the retractable markers.
Kelly
I was like, what are you talking about?
Liz
And you guys know, like, if you saw my Instagram, like, I'm just, like, such, like, a free spirit, like, Montessori, like, yes, zone. Gentle parenting kind of mom. Because I have a tray of art supplies that my children just can make their creations with.
Kelly
Yes.
Liz
And if it makes me feel like a good mom. Anyway, we had to do coral eclicks because we were just blowing through 10 packs of Crayolas because we never had a lid. And then the lids never match. And then that just kind of, like, made me that. That made me ragey. So I love these markers. And I just ordered some for mom because she's like, I need this at my house. And I'm like, you know what, Mom? I'm gonna buy you some markers. You do a lot for me.
Kelly
After all you've done for me.
Liz
After all you've done, like, Amazon prime.
Kelly
These to your house.
Liz
Let me buy these markers. So I bought her a pack of Crayola clicks. My only thing is they only sell two packs of them like a regular and like a brights. And I need more colors.
Kelly
Okay. More.
Liz
Because I tried to buy the other brand and I should do a comparison for people. I tried to buy the other brand of retractable markers on am. They're garbage.
Kelly
Wow. Garbity Boge. Garbity Boge.
Liz
Garbage. It's Crayola. Click the rust. I'm obsessed.
Kelly
I'm really happy you. You figured that out.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Okay. One of my last transactions, I went on this rant on my stories.
Liz
You're so ranty these days.
Kelly
In my rant era, I spent $70 on lactation cookies.
Liz
I don't know the lactation cookie market, so I don't know if that's a lot or not.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I do feel like you could have made lact. What are lactation?
Kelly
Okay, let me base cookies. Kelly, I've already. I already have all the things. It's all the things to say, so I'm going to answer all. Answer all your questions. Don't worry about it. Okay. Long story short, Sloan can only have Breast milk. She profusely vomits up formula. I've tried three different times. I. I'm sick of giving it to her. It's so hard for me to see her in that state. I was sick last week and I noticed since I'm pumping so frequently, I noticed a relatively drastic supply. And one, I immediately was like, I've got to get this taken care of. So I searched lactation cookies. Well, no, first I searched what you should have, like, things to help. And it's like hemp seeds, brewers yeast, all of these random ingredients. And I'm like, I'm not going to buy this and make my own cookies. I just, I. I already wrote that off as an option. I didn't feel like doing it.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
And if I feel like baking something or doing something, like, I am so into it. And when I'm not into it, you couldn't pay me to do it. So anyway, I just already wrote it off that I really didn't want to do it. So I searched and I just figured, I don't know how to use these ingredients. Whatever. I didn't want to do it. I searched lactation cookies, Miracle milk cookies came up on the Google search. They look good. You can freeze them. And I. They had all the ingredients. And I honestly, I'm judging a book by its cover because the marketing was good. They look like they know what they're talking about. And I was sold. So I add $35 worth to my cart. Check out $17 in shipping.
Liz
That's how they get you. And let's just be clear, as someone who, as someone in the e commerce space, does not cost $17 to ship.
Kelly
Them back, back, back up. Free shipping threshold. $52 orders of these cookies, free shipping, spending $70 on them. But you can freeze them. I don't know. I don't know how much. They're a small business. They are cookies. They, they probably have to have, you know, dry ice or like something in them to ship.
Liz
No, I don't.
Kelly
They're fresh baked. They're baked. Fresh, fresh baked. Let's say my, My order says, thank you for your order. As soon as we receive your order, we'll start baking your cookies.
Liz
That's a marketing thing.
Kelly
I don't think it is. They.
Liz
I think they're. I think they're baking cookies every day. I don't think they're gonna say, oh, an order from Liz St. John and scrambled onto their bakery.
Kelly
They might. They only have. They only have like 30, 000 Instagram followers. I gave them a shout out. They DM'd me. So I just, I don't know. I think that they're a business that is up and maybe up and coming. But anyway, a lot of people DM'd me when I posted about them and said that they're amazing. Like they. Taste test. Yeah, for sure. I'm gonna do a taste test.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
So Anyway, I spent $70 in lactation cookies.
Liz
Okay. I bought a new dress because we have a photo shoot. Photo shoot, photo shoot, photo shoot, photo shoot coming up.
Kelly
I don't know. Was that a song?
Liz
Isn't that a song?
Kelly
I don't know.
Liz
Photo shoot, photo shoot. Maybe not. Anyway, I bought a new dress for the photo shoot and it's from a brand called Karen Millen.
Kelly
Oh, I love these dresses. I.
Liz
They are a little more than you want to spend, but it's for a photo shoot, like, and it's like our perfect brand colors and it's very much like who I'm trying to be. It's athletic but. But dressy, but feminine. It's very like futuristic.
Kelly
It looks very futuristic in a way.
Liz
And like, I really like that for the Carman brand because it's like I always think, like, I'd want my outfit to feel like it made sense in a dealership. Like, that's just kind of like what I'm thinking about this photo shoot. And like this dress feels like it's like a Sporty Spice dress and it's stunning. All of their dresses. Karen Millen. I told mom and she's like, oh yeah, I love her dresses. I guess they're an English brand and like, they just get the dresses. Like Kate Middleton, like, where, like, looks like she'd wear these dresses. Like, they just get it.
Kelly
Sydney War has one and she wore to the dealership and we were both, we stopped in our tracks when we saw her in the distance wearing this dress. I'll be very curious to see how it fits you because you're taller than Sydney.
Liz
I know. I'm not that much taller than Sydney.
Kelly
Yeah, I have them.
Liz
I'll try them on for you.
Kelly
Oh, you have them?
Liz
Fashion show.
Kelly
Oh, my gosh.
Liz
At lunch.
Kelly
Sign me up.
Liz
There is nothing, and I mean nothing better than trying on clothes or someone trying on clothes for you.
Kelly
I love it.
Liz
It is my happy place. Like, I love to sit down with a coffee and watch someone try on their clothes.
Kelly
Me too.
Liz
It's my favorite thing to do.
Kelly
Yeah, me too.
Liz
Why is that so fun?
Kelly
Well, and it's fun too, if you're in the mood to try on clothes and you have someone there to like immediate feedback. And if you don't waste it, for sure. Okay. One of my last three transactions. I kind of like talked all about my deodorant last episode. Although that is one. I am going to try and get Maddie and I on our vitamin game. We're. No, we don't. We're not very good at taking vitamins. And Maddie has just been in this. He's just been sick a lot. You know, kids being kids, daycare, all the things. It being February, things are going around. So I got his vitamin D and vitamin. Vitamin D and vitamin C supplements to take every day. And Maddie also has a really hard time, like going to sleep. So I got him magnesium and melatonin.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
So we're gonna try a supplement. Taking supplements and vitamins to help our health and his sleep. I got the Thorne brand.
Liz
So you'll do that. But you'll do a fragrance. But you'll do a vitamin D drop.
Kelly
Well, and I think that it's all about B, first of all.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
How can I afford to have my. That's how I can afford to wear my fragrance.
Liz
I'm not mad at.
Kelly
They're offsetting themselves.
Liz
I'm not mad at fragrance.
Kelly
I'm not mad at fragrance.
Liz
I'm mad at other things. I'm not that. That's not a battle I'm going to pick.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. My last kind of. You counted is I regrettedly. Not regrettedly. What's called when it's something that's really hard for you to do.
Kelly
I.
Liz
Something with a re. Regardedly. No, it's not. Begrudgingly.
Kelly
Begrudgingly. Yeah, that sounds right.
Liz
Is that how the H E W hockey says. Do you spell begrudgingly? There it is. Want to guess?
Kelly
B E R?
Liz
No.
Kelly
Begrudgingly. What then? I don't know. B E, G. Okay. Yeah.
Liz
B E G R U D G.
Kelly
I N, G. Okay.
Liz
L Y. Talk about a word that has three GS in it. Begrudgingly.
Kelly
It. Begrudgingly has three GS in it.
Liz
Anyway, I begrudgingly had to sign up for a Paramount plus membership last night. I wanted to watch the. What was on the side? The Grammys.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I just wanted to be part of something. Sometimes I like to watch something that everyone's talking about. And I don't always like consuming that media on social media because it's just like a clip and it's like I want to see the show.
Kelly
Didn't enjoy it really.
Liz
I just felt like, the coverage, like, it's just crazy to me that, like, the coverage is so much better on my phone.
Kelly
It's the highlights.
Liz
It isn't. It isn't. It's the fluff. I don't. You know me. I'm not a fluff girl.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I'm only a meat and tater kind of girl. It was very fluffy. And also the commercials.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Calm down.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
First of all, like, I guess here's what I need. Tell her to do for me. This is my next transaction. He needs to buy me a satellite. I need to be able to get local tv, like, because then I started watching it, and I'm like. Because I Google, like, where do I watch the. Was it the Grammys or the Oscars?
Kelly
I'm the Grammys.
Liz
Where do I watch the Grammys? And it's like, Paramount plus. I'm like, that's so stupid. Okay. Then I go on there. I'm like, this is channel four. This is cbs. I should be able to watch this. And I'm watching. So whatever. I'm an idiot. I'm mad at myself. Don't. Don't, like, remind me. I need an antenna.
Kelly
I think YouTube TV has, like, local.
Liz
Channel, but I think an Antenna is, like, $40.
Kelly
Okay, sure. I don't know. We're. I don't know, but, like, what is.
Liz
Going on with this? Like, how do you just get.
Kelly
We are moving. We're. We're moving back to the beginning.
Liz
We're moving back to the beginning.
Kelly
Like, someone.
Liz
It's like that meme. Like, I can't wait for someone to just combine all the streaming services and reinvent cable.
Kelly
Huh? Literally.
Liz
Literally.
Kelly
So anyway, speaking of the Grammys, I didn't watch it, but I did see highlights this morning on my phone. And I have realized that since having a toddler who likes to listen to toddler music, I've been frozen in time on the music I was listening to before I started listening to Bluey and Dinosaur Stomp and Spider man soundtrack. And when they said top song, who is it? I think it was, like, Kendrick Lamar, who won, like, the best album, best song, best music video, had never heard of it. And I'm like, how do I just.
Liz
Tyler was like, who's Kendrick Lamar?
Kelly
Granted, I don't listen. I listen to country music, so I don't listen, really. But even when I would work out, though, I would listen to pop music and stuff, and I'm like, oh, I have no idea what is going on, and I don't know what's popular.
Liz
Well, it would have been helpful if.
Kelly
They would have had.
Liz
Like, there wasn't enough banners at the bottom of it to be like, this is this person. Like, I'm watching a performance and I'm like, who in the world is that? And then one point, it was Lady Gaga. Didn't even recognize her, really. Well, you know, she's always got a wig on.
Kelly
Yeah, a wig.
Liz
A different. She has her makeup. I mean, she's got that face or she's got that lack of face. I should say, like, she just. She. She looks different every day.
Kelly
Yeah, I feel like they could have had like a Lady Gaga banner at the bottom.
Liz
They should have had, like, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars performing. Yeah, I knew it was Bruno Mars. Anyway, so I'm going to cancel. I shouldn't even say transaction because it's a one week free trial. I plan on using that. I think we. I think there's like a couple of, like, shows I was like. Or there was like, two movies I thought the kids would want to watch. We're gonna watch those this week. And then I'm canceling it. Please, Rocket money, remind me.
Kelly
Perfect. Okay. My last last transaction.
Liz
Your last last.
Kelly
My last last. So something I recently bought is. What do you even call this? It is a. A brass. A decorative brass wall light switch plate.
Liz
It's a word salad.
Kelly
It is.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
I. My house is from the 80s, and I don't know if it was just like, what the. If it's just from being old or if, like putting like, almond yellow light switches.
Liz
My old house had that.
Kelly
If that was just. And Tyler said.
Liz
Because my new house has that.
Kelly
I know. Well, Tyler. Tyler says, like, you could buy that color at the store. So I think that what looks really nice and updated is, like, white. And I think that, like that almondy yellow light switch and outlet cover thing being yellowy almond. We'll call it almond. That's what Tyler called it. I just. It. I don't. I don't like the look of it. It's not for me. So what I've done on all my outlets is I've bought those childproofing ones. And the nice thing about that is you don't actually have to replace, like, the electrical part. You just. It just covers it up so then it looks white and it looks nice. But then I had these white outlet covers in these yellow plates. So I found this decorative brass plate, and it looks antique and it adds a little bit of character to my room. And I replace it in just one of my rooms. And so I Kept the same almond light switches because if you want it to be all white, you have to like pull everything out, replace it. And I'm not messing with that, but I just. So. So now it, it just looks decorative and pretty and it's not such like a aggressive looking almond. And I bought it off Amazon, it was $9. So I figured, you know, to replace all of them, that would end up being expensive. But I kind of wanted to see how I liked it. And I like it. It's nice. It's a nice little touch. It adds character.
Liz
It adds character.
Kelly
Yeah. So, yeah, that was it.
Liz
Live, laugh, love it.
Kelly
Live, laugh, love it.
Liz
Okay, those are our last three transactions. Are you ready for industry news where I spell the hot tea on the auto industry?
Kelly
Sure am.
Liz
Again, wish we could give you a tariff update, but we can't. So instead let's talk about other fun stuff. The latest and greatest in AI technology has plagued the people. And if one more person asked me if the Ford Excursion is returning, I'm going to have a conniption. Is that a word?
Kelly
Yeah, for I haven't seen this.
Liz
It's an AI generated image. You guys are making me nervous. You're making me nervous. You're feeling like your grandma. So can't spot AI on Facebook.
Kelly
Let me see it. Does it look like AI?
Liz
Let me show you a picture. Yeah, it does.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
But I mean it's getting harder. But it's, it's. My latest thing is I've been getting plagued with. Hold on.
Kelly
Guys.
Liz
Yeah, that looks like AI. People keep sending it to me saying, what are your thoughts on this? It's not real. It's not real. Ford Excursion is not coming back. So that's just a PSA for anybody. All right.
Kelly
Okay. That looks like AI, But I also do think sometimes they put out like model or. Well, I think concept cars.
Liz
Agreed. So that's why I'm going to give them a pass.
Kelly
Yeah, that's.
Liz
I'm going to give them a pass. Okay. Next story, more Trump news, but not that on the terror front. Trump is reportedly planned to relax rules for self driving cars. Bloomberg reports that the incoming presidential administration, this is from couple weeks ago, intends to prioritize getting more driverless vehicles on the road. The incoming truck administration intends to prioritize loosening federal regulations for self driving cars. The report claims policy details aren't yet fully confirmed but suggests the new rules could make it easier to get fully autonomous vehicles on the road. Okay, where are we at with the self driving curves?
Kelly
Well, I would be Curious to know what the current regulations are and like, what they're. How they're loosening them up.
Liz
I think we should get an expert. We try to find someone on the podcast to come talk about that because. I agree. Because like the current ones, like, if you've ever been in like the Ford or Chevy that has like the Blues Cruise or the. What Chevy's called Super Cruise.
Kelly
Oh, yeah.
Liz
You know, you have to keep your eyes on the road. But like they're driving themselves. Like they're changing lanes, like they're doing all the things. Like, it's super cool. Like, I actually really enjoy the technology. I've used it. I actually feel very safe with it. But like, my eyes are on the road.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So then you're also kind of like, what does it really do? Because, like, if your eyes are on the road and you're still sitting there like you're not doing anything else.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And they're always like, it prevents driver fatigue. And I'm like, I don't think it's hard to put your foot on the pedal. I don't get that at all.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I just think it's going to be a very interesting next 35 years.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And you know, there's like a lot of people, like futuristic spectators. This is like, this is what our dad says he thinks could happen one day. It's like families just have one car and the car takes the dad to work, comes back, takes the kids to school, comes back. Like maybe like takes the mom to the grocery store or takes the mom to work or wherever. And like families have one car. Because the problem with cars right now, if you really think about a car on its face, is a car spends so much of its life just sitting there.
Kelly
Yeah. I don't think we will. I don't think we'll see a world where a mother or, or a child can be in a car without not being accompanied by an adult.
Liz
Maybe not like our kids, but like a 12 year old. Probably not. Probably not now.
Kelly
You're right. I think you should stop to be six. I'm like, so that doesn't really change the game for me.
Liz
I'm not, I'm not in a rush to get there at all. But I do think, I think, I'm not like, totally against it.
Kelly
I think it could be really effective in cities.
Liz
I think it could be effective in cities. I really want to.
Kelly
They have.
Liz
And then. But then I understand because, like, they have some driverless cap, like services. Like in Arizona, they have them. I'm going to get in one. Maybe when we go to Arizona, I want to try it. I'm not. I, I actually, maybe this is just me being silly, but like, I feel good about those. I don't know why. It's just like, not something that gives me a pit.
Kelly
But I don't know. I don't know enough about it. I'm not in a rush. I'm fine with the way things are.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But maybe that's just me being, you know, not an innovator.
Liz
I'm fine with the way things are.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
You know, at what point, like, just, do we just need to like, stop and will we ever stop? Or does technology just keep going until it takes over and destroys us all?
Kelly
Yeah, well. And then it's just like, okay, so if we replace all the cab drivers, like, those are jobs. Those are jobs, you know?
Liz
Yeah. AI has kind of been giving me a little bit of a pit lately. Just like, I mean, the. More like you just see like pictures and stuff, I just think sometimes you have to like, remember, like, put your phone away and like, just like focus on like what's real and like what's actually happening around you.
Kelly
I think that they're. I have seen a resurgence on Instagram lately of. And you know, it's, it does make you question people who are saying, I am switching to a flip phone and they're filming their day with the flip phone, but they're still filming it. And I just wonder, did you get a camera to film this or did you set up an old iPhone that's no longer functioning? And just. There's quite. There's a. There's an additional layer of questions, but I do think we're going to see a bit of a resurgence in the flip phone because I do think that the. So because the flip phones can still like, she showed me this one flip phone. This creator made this video has Venmo, like has Google Maps.
Liz
What are the flip phones up to these days?
Kelly
So I just, I could see how a younger generation who has been just like, so, you know, from. They've always been ingrained with the technology. I could see how they would want to take a step back to a more simpler. Because I don't think, I don't think at the end of the day, social media is probably very good for everyone all the time. And the over consumption of it, it's not good for me right now. I need to log off of it a little bit.
Liz
You need to log off it for a little bit?
Kelly
Yeah, I'm going. I'm having too many rants.
Liz
I just think we've never really, like, learned. I think the problem with our generation is, like, we were never taught how to set boundaries around it because, like, we just grew up with, like, the slow burn of it. So I actually think, in a way, I hope my. My hope for our generation is that we'll do a better job teaching our kids kind of learning by, like, you know, our own anxiety and trauma surrounding it, like, how to regulate it and, like, not be so addicted to our phones. Moderation and just have moderation. And, like, I just think it's really important to, like, learn when to, like, clock out. And it's like, I mean, you can just doom. Scroll forever. And I think it's kind of like the. Put your phone down, like, not to be funny, but, like, go touch grass. Go find physical grass. And, like, then think, like, okay, what is my reality right now? My reality is my family's here, everyone's safe, everyone feels good. And, like, if I didn't see it on the phone, like, it actually doesn't exist in my life. And I'm not saying we should, like, live every aspect like that because I think it's important to know about what other people in the world are going through, but is a level to it where it's like, if it's affecting. You know, we talked about this. Whenever there's something tragic going on in the world, whether it be like, you know, war or the fires or, like, natural disasters or whatever, it's like, you gotta remember, like, your job in that moment is like, you don't leave your post, and your post is your family and your children. So, like, in your job is, like, you protect your family and your children for as long as you can. For as well as you can. For as. As well as you can. So, like, if it's affecting how you can do your job, like, you don't need to consume it.
Kelly
Yeah. And we don't. We don't really. We don't talk about, you know, when something big happens. Like, we don't. We don't have PSAs on this podcast or, like, say, hey, before we start, we want to, like, acknowledge. It's like, we just have never done that also because we just record so far in advance. But something that I have been feeling really bad about is, like, how I can't even wrap my head around how horrific these plane crashes have been. And there's a part of me that has just said that, like, I can't. I can't talk about it. I Can't think about it. And then I feel bad for not thinking about it because I know that the people who are. Have lost someone or the people who lost their lives, like, that's the worst thing that they could ever possibly imagine they're going through. And then I feel bad for not thinking about them. But I. But also, I also have to, like, protect myself a little bit. And I can't let myself go down that rabbit hole because actually, planes are, like, one of my biggest, like, irrational, one of my biggest fears. And so I'm just. I'm trying to find that balance of, like, feeling that for them, but also, like, okay, I do need to pick myself up and I need to, like, I need to move on. Like, I need to move past this part of my life.
Liz
Well, I think. I mean, I. I can't speak for, like, other people, but I would. I would hope that anyone who experienced that, like, doesn't want. They. They would not want someone else to experience it. Like, it's the same. Like, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Like, I would not wish that on my worst enemy.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So I would not be mad if someone else just, like, couldn't. I'm not asking you to put. Do you want to put yourself in my sh. Like, and it's also just, like, whether you have to or not, like, you have permission for me, like, it is important for you to take care of you and your family. And I just think, like, the more. And I see, like, so deep. But, like, my big fear with, like, AI is that people are just going to have a harder and harder time, like, discerning what's real and what's not.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And what's reality and what's not. And like, we already said on social media because, like, and this goes back to, like, the earliest social media where it's like, oh, everyone is having a fabulous life and you're not. Okay, that's not true. That's just. That's not true. And you could take it to the flip side of, like, oh, like, this is going on in the world and this is not. Like, you just. Again, like, you, You. You can draw your balance of, like, how much you want to be informed, how much you want to be aware, how much you want to consume. But at the end of the day, put your phone down and what's your reality?
Kelly
Yeah, you need to check in.
Liz
We're literally so profound.
Kelly
You need to check in.
Liz
Sometimes you need to check in. One thing that's helped me is I actually have. I Think the iPhone does actually an excellent job of. You can do different. They're called focuses. So after 5:00pm, like, sorry, like I don't get your. Like your. It might. Your tech shows up. I don't get alerted, I don't get emails. I don't get anything alerted to my phone after 5pm yeah, it feels good.
Kelly
Yeah, it's good. Boundary. Okay, well, is that all your industry news?
Liz
That is on my industry news.
Kelly
Okay, well, now it's time for ditch the drive through where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut.
Liz
I have one.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I have one. I have two. Because I made them both last night. Simultaneously. Simultaneously. First of all, shout out to one of our OG Ditch the drive thrus. Salmon bowls.
Kelly
Yes.
Liz
Rice, salmon fixins. I love a recipe that's heavy on the fixins because fixin's stay fixins are shelf stable. They go in your fridge. You buy the fixin, then all you have to do is get salmon rice. You have an avocado, you have a cucumber. Great. You don't. Great.
Kelly
Yeah, it doesn't matter.
Liz
Salmon rice. I love a little cubey mayo on it, little srirach soy. The seaweed crunchies. The seaweed papers help you do a little ebb. Everything but the bagel. Such a good dinner. Delicious crowd pleaser.
Kelly
People don't always think about the ebb with the Asian inspired bowls.
Liz
Well, there's a bit. There's sesame seeds in them.
Kelly
No, I'm saying, like, friendly reminder.
Liz
Friendly reminder for ebb really helps. Yes. So that was one. And then simultaneously, which Elizabeth and I are having for lunch. You know, she doesn't love soup, but I do. I made chicken tortilla soup.
Kelly
I'm looking forward to it. Smelled really good.
Liz
You know, Pioneer woman, of course. Of course. Has a great recipe. I didn't even follow a recipe I bought. I love to buy this at Costco. It's a bag of pulled rotisserie chicken. So, like, they do the hard work for you and they put it in a little bag. It's a lot of meat. It's like 13 bucks. It's way more meat than I would ever get off a rotisserie chicken, truthfully.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Like, I can easily make like two things with it. So I put that with taco seasoning. Corn, peppers, onion, black beans, rotel. Yum, yum, yum. It's a simple chicken, chicken broth. You know, it's a simple brothy soup and then it's fixin city, Then it's a frito, then it's a sour cream, then it's cilantro, then it's fresh lime juice. And we're gonna. Then we're fixing them up. I have avocado.
Kelly
Perfect. I can't wait.
Liz
Yeah. So that's what's up for our lunch today.
Kelly
Okay, well, now you. Now that you lay it all out, I know.
Liz
I'm, like, honestly ready to go eat it. I'm starving. I'm ready to put my phone down and eat some soup.
Kelly
Me too. So with that, that's our podcast. Thank you so much for listening to the carpool podcast.
Liz
