Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly.
B
Sports. I'm not, like, of course I love the Lions, but, like, any other sports, I'm not really into. And I barely even understand what's going on in the Lions game. I just like the vibe of, like, having the team. You guys know this.
A
And, Liz, we had, like, our prom parties there. We had our graduation parties there.
B
We had my wedding there.
A
Again, like, I know you have the most important milestones, but, like, we also have memories here. Your mom time off starts now.
B
Welcome back to the carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. Hey, Liz.
A
Hey, Kel.
B
Well, it's Wednesday, but I'm still hungover from our crazy weekend.
A
Oh, totally. You know us, we're wild. No, being a mom is, like, so weird because you just, like, I just do not drink anymore. It is just not worth, like, being hungover and being a mother sounds horrible. It's not worth it.
B
No. And, like, for us to say that is so crazy. Like, we're big Catholic family. We're big. I mean, we're big drinkers. I don't know what may say, like, the sun trips know how to party. And I never thought I would be, like, so far the other way. I think I had, like, two drinks at the farm party, and I was like, I'm done. Two beers.
A
No. This is my new thing with drinking. I have, like, two. I, like, pick the time of the night that I want to catch a little bit of a buzz, and I have, like, two drinks, kind of back to back. I ride that, and then I let it taper out, and then I'm fine, and I had my moment. But then by the end of the night, I'm sober and I feel great the next morning.
B
And I like to do that early.
A
And I like to do it early. So I'm not going to bed, not feeling well. And I'm like, the most fun. The most fun part of the night is the beginning because also, I'm not staying up late. But, yeah, the farm party was so much fun. It was so much fun to have our whole family in town. Like, we felt so completely.
B
I can't. I don't know how mom and dad felt because, like, they're their kids. But, like, I felt so whole.
A
I know. It's amazing. I didn't realize, like, how much I was missing Sydney until I saw her.
B
I know. And now she's gone again, which is so sad for us.
A
I know she said she might come home for Christmas, but she's like. I mean, like, I have a job she's like, this isn't like Christmas break where I like come home for like weeks at a time. She's like feel to come home for a few days but it's like a, you know, it's like 24 hours of travel. Like it's a very. Australia is far away.
B
It's the furthest away. I think it's the furthest you can get.
A
But in Australia, I think she said that like no matter where you work, you're guaranteed like four weeks of vacation.
B
Like so anywhere outside the US like.
A
Literally every other country works for America.
B
Any works are for America. Yeah.
A
So hopefully she can come back soon.
B
I pray that she can come back.
A
But it's so funny. I was, I was done by 10pm and I like woke up with Sloan at like 2:33 and since we were all staying in like one room when she was crying, I had to go into the living room and rock her and like Sydney comes rolling in at 3am I had to open the door for her and I'm like, we are just in such different stages of our life. It's not even funny.
B
And that is so interesting. It's so interesting.
A
It's.
B
I'm happy we're together and I'm happy. Hopefully then they'll be together.
A
Yeah.
B
But I do. There is a level of me that like wishes I. But the problem is like when I was there they were too young. Like I want to be doing this with them, you know?
A
Yeah. Yeah. I just, I'm not, I. I just think we're not going to get that to like their kids are grow until I. That's fine.
B
That's fine. I'm in no rush.
A
I'm in. That's fine.
B
Whenever it happens, it happens.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. The farm party was super fun. So I, I don't. I think we talked about on the podcast maybe we just talked about on Instagram so we should probably double. Double down. But we had our. The 20th anniversary of our farm. Our parents bought a farm back in 2005 and it is a really special place because Tyler is from the town that the farm is at. That's how me and Tyler met. Cuz like we, we grew up going down there. We had some friends in the. We started making friends in the area.
A
And then I met my. Of course like obviously you meeting Tyler is like the most important thing but like also like my roommate in Dallas was from that town, one of my best friends. We had like our prom parties there. We had our graduation parties there. We just wedding there again. Like, I know you have the most important milestones, but like, we also have memories here. And we just. We would just spend, like, we just spent so much time there growing up. And it's really cool now to take our kids there and see them experience it. So our farm's called Sunny Meadows. When my. When our parents bought it, they. That was the name of the farm. And I think that one of their requests was like, if you would like to keep the name, it's called. We call it Sunny Meadows. And it was perfect because my dad's nickname was Sunny in college. Cause Suntrap. And so Sunny Meadows is just the perfect name for it.
B
And it is always sunny there. We've never had a. We have a lot of parties there. Had my wedding there. Things never get rained out. Like, it's just. It just is just the most magic. It's like the most magical place on earth.
A
Now, no matter what the forecast calls for, it never seems to rain on a party that we have there. It did end up raining on our 20th anniversary party.
B
Yeah. In like a vibey kind of way.
A
In like a whimsical like, let me just go dance in the rain.
B
And like, because it wasn't too cold and it wasn't too much of a downpour.
A
No, it wasn't. It wasn't a very well wet rain.
B
No, it wasn't. It was. It was a drier rain.
A
As dry as a rain could be. It was actually like, okay, so we. Or Kelly posted a reel. But Shartay fit actually, I think encapsulated the vibe of it much better in her reel.
B
So she didn't have four kids to run after. So. Yeah, I'm glad that she. I'm glad that she had it. She was on it.
A
I'm just happy someone's creating content. Except for us because Sydney and Grayson.
B
Could never bother to pick up their phones.
A
No.
B
So I know, but it was such a fun night. And then the next day, party was great, you know. Did we do anything major? Oh, well, my dad always closes in the night with fireworks. Like, that's just something that's important to him. He loves fireworks. So we had fireworks and we always order a late night pizza order. Because those are just like two party planning things that I think are. I honestly think the late night food is almost more important than the dinner, than the. Than the. During the time food.
A
Yeah.
B
You know what I mean?
A
Like 8 o' clock rolled around and I knew at some point we were having pizza delivered and there was still like the dinner food. Left out, which was still really good. But I was like, I'm waiting because I know pizza is en route. Like, there. It just hits so different.
B
Totally. Totally. But yeah, it was so fun. My kids were troopers. They loved dancing. It's just fun to take your kids somewhere where they can just like dance and be kids and just like. It was just like. It was so. It was a super magical night.
A
Yeah.
B
Like, I wish you guys could all come because it's just like such a vibe. It's so fun.
A
Yeah, it was great.
B
And then the next day, the stumpies had a long day. We had our church sausage dinner, which I don't know. Like, this is such like a small town country thing. I don't know if other churches do this. Like, churches have dinners now. You guys know I love, like, I love a fish fry. Like, Lent is my super bowl because it's like I'm hitting up every fresh fry teller and I rate the fish fries that we go to. Like, we have our favorites. We know, like, it's. I love a fish fry. I love a church dinner in general because what it is, is it's home cooking. And home cooking is just getting harder and harder and harder to find. And at my kids school, that kids school in our church, they have the best sausage dinner ever.
A
Yeah, it looks fire.
B
It was fire. Now, a lot of churches in the area have. It's the same meal. It's mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, sausage, some type of, like, apples, whether they be like, stewed. It's a stewed apple, an applesauce and apple butter, and then some type of ice cream. So the men of the parish have to work this event. And it's like a 10:30 to 9:30pm thing. So Tyler, I let him sleep in because he had more fun than I did at the party. So I was trying to be a good wifey. I let him sleep in, and then I had to get him up and I said, you have to go. It's time. Get on. Get your bow tie on. They all have to wear bow ties. And then he had to go serve stewed apples and sauerkraut the entire next day.
A
What I love about your church is they're like, no, you have. This is not really an optional thing. Like, it's like, no, you're gonna do it.
B
Well, they're gonna do it. It's good. They're really good.
A
It's good. Force community.
B
We prefer the term fellowship.
A
Sorry. It's good fellowship. Half the battle is just going and doing It. And when you don't technically have a choice, then you. Then it's like, oh, we're all in this together. Like, oh, we have to work a long day. And, like, nothing brings you closer than, like, doing something hard with other people. And not that this is, like, a hard thing, but that's a long day.
B
Well, the problem is, too. Cause they get up at church the Sunday before, and they convict you in a good way. But the problem is, they said 50% of the men who volunteer are between the ages of 60 and 80.
A
Yeah.
B
And they're aging out of it. And, like, when I say this is like a homemade meal, I mean, the men of our parish trigger warning. Butcher the hogs themselves. Like, it doesn't get more homemade than this. So Tyler found himself last week going to the butcher shop, and he is literally making the sausage. They're making the sausage that, then we fry that, then we serve. They serve. It's 4, 000 people.
A
Yeah, that's what.
B
I worked that all day. So I was solo parenting the four kids, which I was dreading more than I was, honestly. The kids were pretty good. And then we went up there, and I didn't have to cook. I went up there for lunch, and then I got the to go for dinner. We ate it twice.
A
Yeah. I thought about swinging by on my way home from the farm, but it's just, like, too long of a day. But you sent a picture of it, and it looked delicious.
B
And I just like that meal. And I never had sausage and sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and green beans until I started dating Tyler. Because that's just like, I guess, a more. It's just like, not a meal that ever came across my desk. And now it comes across my desk a few times a year. And now I make it. It's George and Tyler's favorite thing that I make. It's so good. Sauerkraut snacks.
A
Sauerkraut does smack. And it's, like, so good for you.
B
It's, like, so good for you. And it's so yummy and salty. Like, I just love it. Oh, my gosh.
A
Have you. Okay, then go ahead. I was gonna go.
B
No, it's okay. No, you go ahead. Go ahead.
A
Have you. I've just sent this to you because you probably haven't seen it. Have you seen the savory plates on Instagram?
B
No.
A
There's this chick who makes these savory plates, and I came across it, like, 8pm the other night. And the way I ran to my fridge to look for anything that I could put together. She gets onions, olives, sourdough, cucumbers, cheese, salami. And she makes. And she puts like, balsamic vinegar. It's like everything like, like savory and salty all in this, like, snack plate. I ordered all of the stuff for it. I'm gonna. I'm gonna send this to you.
B
Wait, send this to me right now.
A
Okay. All you have to do here. Let me just read. Read you what's.
B
But you're saying, like, sauerkraut would be a good addition.
A
It made me think of it because I want to pickle some onions. Let me send this to you. You can just. You can just search savory snack plate on your Instagram.
B
Savory girl plate.
A
Savory girl plate. So this is what she puts in it. Tomato, red onion, hard boiled egg, mini cucumbers, chili pepper and mozzarella, pearls, peppercinis, salami, capers, feta, sourdough, cream cheese, olives, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, fresh dill, onion powder, lemon juice.
B
It looks.
A
It looks delicious.
B
Yeah, no, it looks delicious. This is going to be the new. This is the new viral thing.
A
This is the new viral thing. So Savor girl snack plates. I bought the stuff for it.
B
It's a lemon on everything. I love.
A
It just looks like such a good girl dinner. And like, it's all good ingredients too. It's like all whole foods.
B
Someone goes, so a salad, question mark.
A
Just kind of without the lettuce with.
B
So a salad. No. I love when we reinvent things, make them our own.
A
I think it's a little bit different. I just, like, love to see people just, like, leaning into the savory.
B
Are you more a savory or a sweet?
A
I'm totally both. I need both in my life in a big way.
B
I'm like, amen. Like, people who are just like, oh, I'm more of a. Like, I'm equal also. Who am I that day? I don't know. Who am I that moment? And what was the last thing I had?
A
Well, no, because, like, I love something savory, but, like, I'm always ending it with a sweet treat. Always. I know.
B
And what is that?
A
Helps me digest things. Honestly, like, I wasn't feeling very well after I ate a meal the other day. And then Sydney had made, like, Sydney's such a good baker. And Sydney had some, like, homemade desserts out at the farm. And I wasn't feeling good after dinner, but she had these. This Texas sheet cake that she makes that's incredible. I'm like, even though my tummy is kind of hurting right now, I obviously I have to eat the Texas sheet cake because it's here. And then I felt better. So what's up with that?
B
Yeah, I'm not sure.
A

Okay, I want to talk about something so random. Have you seen all of this news about Hatch? Hatch. Hatch, like the sound machines?
B
No.
A
Okay. This is crazy.
B
I love my hatch. Are they spying on us?
A
Okay, no. Let me, let me just take you on the whole train because I've seen some kind of crazy things, people throwing them away. And I want to preface this with saying that in this moment and for the reasons that people are throwing their hatches away, I am not doing that right now. But I'm going to tell you what is going on on the Internet. So hatch, where do I begin? I have seen multiple videos of people like I'm throwing my hatch away. And here's why. So first off, some people are like, I'm hearing, they think it's demonic. They're like, I'm seeing. I'm hearing murmurs on my hatch. It's like, oh, what does that even mean? It's a sound machine. It makes noise if you're hearing murmurs that are concerning you. And also it's like WI fi connected. So I feel like interfaces or whatever. If you're hearing things that are concerning you sure, throw it away. I wouldn't throw it away because someone else on the Internet said they heard murmurs and they. I don't even know what that means. And also they didn't post any proof of it. But the reason that people are like, connecting it to being like, is this demonic? Is because Hatch came out with kind of a crazy commercial and it was very spooky. Scary skeletons. Like, very scary. Like, looked like a scary movie movie trailer. Like, caution if you're going to watch it. I hate scary things. I don't watch scary movies. I don't like scary commercials. Like, I hate anything scary. It's on their Instagram and on their YouTube.
B
I'm going to watch it.
A
Okay. Yeah, just watch it really quick. The whole thing that it's about is it's like, it shows like scenes that looks like it's from a scary movie, but it's. It's like. And then like you're. The person's like, really scared. And then it says, like, stop your doom scrolling and go to sleep. And once the hatch turns on, then all the scary stuff goes away because they're asleep. And so it's about like, doom scrolling and you doom scroll and you stay up late. Are you watching it?
B
Yeah. Yeah. Ew. I don't like this.
A
I know. No, like, I hate it.
B
And they said they put on an apology.
A
Oh, they did.
B
It says, addressing demon talk. We've realized we failed you. It's come to our attention that our recent Halloween ad may have unnerved some people. To be clear, we did not mean to imply our device is our literally possessed by dark forces. We are simply trying to show how our phones haunt our souls, steal our sleep, and flood our eyes with the unholy blue light. Totally different things. We hope that clears them up. In the meantime, here's what we're doing to address the issue immediately. Sorry, this is not an apology. Introducing the Hatch Repossession program. If you're unsatisfied with your hatch device in any way, including if you suspect there's a tiny demon talking to you at night, send it back. For every hatch repossessed, we'll offer it to someone who Is deaf, desperate for restorative phone free sleep. I guess it's kind of an apology.
A
So. Okay, so you see, So I get what they were going for. Like, I think they were just going for some. First of all, it's Halloween. Like, if you're ever gonna put an ad out this. Like, this. Like, it's Halloween. I read the comments on the ad and actually got, like, really good feedback. I'm sure they deleted some of the bad comments, but people are like, this is iconic. Like, love that. Like, people who like scary stuff were into it, and it just. It reminded me of all the advertising for, like, liquid death. So, like, there's obviously a market for it.
B
Mm.
A
But I just think people are like, hatch makes stuff for adults. Like, we all have the hatch. A lot of us have the hatch for our kids. But, like, they also make products for adults. So, like, it is okay for a company to put out an ad like this because it is. It is for adults as well.
B
So you're on Team Demon Talk.
A
So I'm on. Like, I'm not. If I throw away my hatch, it's going to be because of, like, Bluetooth frequencies being too close to my baby. And, like, I'm playing with that.
B
Are the hatches possessed or people are just mad about the ad and they don't want to support the hatch?
A
Both. They're like, I'm hearing my. My hatch murmur. Like, murmur is what they say. Like, and I'm like, it's a sound. It's a white noise machine.
B
Have you. I mean, we've all.
A
It murmurs.
B
We. First of all, we've all had our Alexa go off in the middle of.
A
The night and say something.
B
Sure.
A
It's like, it's people feeling kind of spooked by their sound machine. And then also, they're like, the whole company is. Is possessed and it's demonic. And it's like. It's like a very aggressive. I feel like, to call, like, an entire company demonic.
B
I don't have. I do have a hatch, but I'm not gonna put my hatch in this fight. I don't like scary stuff. I also just think it's like, it's like florals in spring. Groundbreaking. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's just. I'm a little bored with it. If anything else, I'm a little bored with, like, the Halloween trope.
A
Yeah. Anyway, I just thought that was so interesting, and I was feeling, like, guilty when I was watching these videos of being like, well, do I need to throw these things are like $60 a pop. Like, I don't really want to throw my hatch away because this guy on Instagram is. And like, is this like. I was just really getting in my head about it last night and I just want to come on here and tell everyone that, like, I'm not worried about it. I'm not getting rid of my hatch for this reason.
B
So I think everyone appreciates the clear up. I'm just gonna continue my lukewarm takes on the topic. I don't really know. I don't. Okay. I don't know.
A
No, I don't.
B
I don't.
A
I would say I don't really have a big take on it either. I think it's a bit dramatic. But I. I don't like. I personally don't like the ad. It's not for me, but I'm not centering myself.
B
Sounds like you're centering yourself.
A
No, it sounds like I'm doing the exact opposite.
B
Speaking of scary things in Halloween. Actually, not scary things. We have. First of all, we're doing our annual trunk or treat.
A
Yeah.
B
Contest. Are trunk or treats everywhere? I don't know. Sometimes I'm so my Midwestern bubble. I think they're everywhere, though. Everyone does trunk or treat, right?
A
Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure.
B
I feel like not to age myself in like such a real way, but like, do you remember when, like, Trunk or treats came out? Because they haven't been around forever.
A
No, they came out while we were in grade school.
B
And I remember my mom. Mom being like, this is so stupid. Like, let's just have it on Halloween because guys are just getting two days full of candy. Like, I like, I remember when Trunk or treat started.
A
Me too. I loved it. It was more fun than Halloween.
B
Cuz all your friends are there.
A
Cuz you're with all your friends.
B
Yeah, I like trunk or treat too. I also like trick or treating, but like, I think trunk or treat's, like, just as much fun, if not more fun.
A
I agree.
B
I kind of like came on here a couple weeks ago and I was like, I'm gonna have an amazing trunk I have. I'm gonna redact that statement.
A
Yeah.
B
I won't be decorating my trunk.
A
Yeah. Did you ever say you said you were going to.
B
Yeah, I said I'm gonna do it. Like, it's like, I'm the car mom. Like, Tyler can make things and like.
A
We'Re gonna do like, oh. Because I could have told you you weren't gonna do it, but yeah, I.
B
Guess Tyler I'm not putting his energy on there. He's not putting his energy on there. It's just. It's. I kind of have to fade the whole situation. But we're having a contest. It is the Carbon truck or treat contest. Submit your trunks to hello, the Karma official dot com. Now, if your trunk or treats after what till. Not till, like, after Wednesday. Unfortunately, you're not going to make it this year. You got to just save the picture for the following year. But any trunks done up until then, you can enter the contest. We're going to choose, I guess, the top 16, probably, and then we're going to be voting in stories probably starting today, if not tomorrow, so make haste and let's see them trunks.
A
Let's see the junk in them trunks.
B
Do you feel like, for judging, like, is it about the trunk or is it about, like, the trunk and the costume and the whole photo in the family? Like, are we judging just how the trunk's decorated or are we judging?
A
Okay, I'm judging the trunk. Bonus points if your family looks great. I'm not judging your family costume. That's not what this is about. This is about the trunk. So. So if you guys are dressed to the tens in your costumes, but, like, your trunk just has, like, some balloons or cobwebs on it, I don't care. This is trunk. This is a trunk or treat car contest.
B
But, like, what if. Yes, I agree. I agree with you.
A
And I'm very. I'm just very curious to see. I feel like a lot of trunks get redone. Like, people definitely take. A lot of people take the same Inspo from Pinterest. So I'm really looking for something unique. Never been done before.
B
I am, too. And I'm looking for. To me, I'm looking for some good effort. Yeah, I'm looking for good effort. I sometimes think in years past, and this is not shade to our past winners, but it's so easy to take the Chick Fil, a Starbucks Costco route as we're all just millennials and those are things that excite us. But I'm looking more for me as the judge when I'm selecting them, because you guys are voting. I'm just doing, like. I'm just making the selections. I'm looking for. For infrastructure.
A
Totally.
B
You know?
A
Totally.
B
I'm looking for some infrastructure.
A
Me too. So, yeah, we posted. Posted a video of us dancing in costumes that we just found at Spirit Halloween, which is, like, the most horrifying place. If I never have to go back into another Spirit, I will be so thankful. Like, I cannot with the spooky, scary decorations. But we got this traffic cone costume that said bump ahead. And now the pregnancy rumors are swirling back because I was kind of like, my favorite thing to do is just like, get people to think I'm pregnant because then I get all the attention of being pregnant without being pregnant.
B
Right.
A
Okay. But everyone was like, she's wearing a maternity Halloween costume, guys. The Halloween costume had a man on the. On modeling it. I think it was a different kind of bump.
B
I think it was a different kind of bump, but also, like, cones. Can't I find it unnecessary for the cone to say anything?
A
Yeah, why do you have to say anything?
B
I know. I mean, what do you guys.
A
Don't even say that.
B
We were at spirit Halloween and those were the two semi auto. I mean, those were the two semi auto related. Auto related ones we could find because the race car driver was a little too sexy.
A
Waxy.
B
Sexy waxy. Thank you.
A
Yeah.
B
But anyway, submit your trunks to hello at the Karma official dot com. We cannot wait to see them. First place is getting 200Amazon gift card. Second place again, 100. And third place is getting 50.
A
Yeah.
B
I started a great new show.
A
What is it?
B
Chad Powers. Have you seen.
A
No, I haven't.
B
It's with Glenn Powell, who is so funny. Like, I know. He was so funny. This is like a really good, like, breakout role for him. Like, he is hilarious. He's like Ryan. Ryan Reynolds funny.
A
Okay.
B
Anyway, it's on Hulu. Here's what it is. It's a great show to watch with your husband. It's like, it's as funny as Ted Lasso. Like, I. We're cackling and Tyler and I kind of got into a bad habit of, like, not watching shows together, but instead, like, doing things separately. And I. I kind of put my foot down with him and I'm like, we need to be enjoying the same content. Or like, if you're going to scroll your phone, I'm going to breathe. I'm going to be breathing over your shoulder to see what you're watching. So then we can, like, have some sort of. You know, I just want us to be. I want us to be consuming the same things. We can have something to talk about. But anyway, I got him all into the show, Chad Powers. And I found out, like, I like sports movies.
A
Yeah, me too. Sports.
B
I'm not like, of course I love the lines, but like any other sports, I'm not really into. And I barely even understand what's going on in the Lions game. I just like the vibe of, like, having the team. You guys know this, but a sports movie is excellent. I just like sports tv.
A
I do, too. I do, too. I think I like. I like sports. I kind of like war movies sometimes.
B
No, I don't like those.
A
I. I used to like them more before I met Maddie. I can't really, like, watch them as much anymore, but I think everyone loves a sports movie. Yeah, someone DM me and I couldn't. I can't find it because I. I was, like, at the party and I, like, saw it and I did. I didn't want to open it yet, but now I can't find it. But they were like, this person from Chad Powell. I remember seeing Chad Powers, and I was like, Kelly told me out the show. The. They're like, you look like this girl, but I have no idea who it is.
B
Oh, like the main girl, Ricky. Yeah, I see that. I mean, a little bit.
A
Oh, I don't know if it was that girl or someone else.
B
You look like her in, like, a tall, brunette kind of way.
A
What's her name, Ricky?
B
That's like her name. Character name. I'm not sure what her real name is. Anyways, it's excellent. And then I'm so excited to start. Nobody wants this season two. Did you ever watch the first one of that show?
A
No, I didn't. I started it. Like, it. No, I'm still. I'm still watching Desperate Housewives. It takes me forever to get through shows, and now I was just listening to the episode of the Toast, and now I want to go watch the Kardashians because they're. Oh, I sound so good.
B
I started the Kardashians, and it was so good.
A
Yeah, I always like watching it.
B
I like watching the Kardashians. I'm not saying I love them as people, but I, I like watching another family.
A
Yeah, me too.
B
Would we ever do. And not that anyone would ask, but like, anybody, like, what would it take? Like, put your family through a reality TV show. Like, I. We would never do it.
A
No, I would never do it.
B
I would never do it. Unless it was the same capacity like this, where it's like, they're the producer, so, like, they're deciding what goes in and what does not go in.
A
No, I, I, I could never put myself in that. I just a very. I could never do that. And then they have to, like, fight and, like, put controversial stuff out just for, like, I don't know. I could never do it. Not for Me. I have no desire. Not for me.
B
Not for my. Me either. But anyway, Kardashians is great. Nobody wants this. You should watch, because it's about two sisters who have a podcast.
A
I know. And I start. I'm again, like, I'm watching Dancing with the Stars. I'm on season seven of Desperate Housewives, and then now I have to watch Kardashians and apparently Chad Powers. And nobody wants. I don't have time.
B
See, And I'm finding myself with so much. Not so much time, but, like, I'm finding myself with a solid 40 minutes every night after the kids go to bed.
A
And that's J. James goes to bed late, and I fall asleep with him. So I'm trying to work on that. Totally. I'm trying to work on that.
B
All right, well, I think it's time for industry news where I spill the hot tea going on in the auto industry.
A
Let's hear it.
B
Okay. Our first story is from Automotive News. EV sales plunge 43% in October without the credit. Wow. Forecasts. I know. Automatic discounts. Electric vehicles in October helped blunt a deeper collapse in EV sales after the September 30th tax credit cutoff. New electric vehicle deliveries are forecasted to fall 43% in October from a year earlier following the termination of the EV tax credit.
A
I mean, makes sense. Anyone who was eyeballing one got it before.
B
Well, and I think what's interesting about evs is it kind of feels like we're at a point where anyone who wants one has gotten one.
A
Yeah.
B
And a statistic that I would really, really like to know, which I'm sure I could find it, is how many people who buy an EV buy a second ev. Like, once they get ev, are they evie for life or are they like, I'm gonna go back to a gas. Like. Because most EV buyers, I think, are also leasing.
A
Yeah.
B
So then, like, are they leasing another ev or they're like, that was fun. Now I want a gas car.
A
Yeah.
B
It's kind of an interesting question.
A
It is an interesting question to have, like, two evs. It's kind of like, that's kind of wild to me to not have, like, a backup gas car.
B
And I think that's what a lot of people are feeling.
A
Yeah.
B
Okay. This is interesting. Well, that's just from Reddit, though, so we don't trust Reddit, right? No. Okay. This is a. This is from the S P Global mobility. That feels good.
A
Okay.
B
Based on u. S registration show that the first quarter of 2024, approximately 68 of EV owners who were in the market for another vehicle purchased another ev.
A
Oh, okay. There you go.
B
Yeah.
A
Well, that settles that.
B
So that settles that.
A
Did we talk about on the podcast the Passport and how we have like the biggest crush in the world in the Honda Passport?
B
No, we didn't. And this happens to Elizabeth and I. You know, we're in so many cars and people are always like, what's your favorite car? And it's like such a hard question to answer, but. And especially because, like, cars, cars come and go. But like, currently we're crushing so hard on the Honda Passport. Like, I'm obsessed. Like, I see one on the road, I turn my head.
A
In my professional opinion, she has one flaw and I can hardly call it a flaw because it's a, it's a two row suv, doesn't have ceiling vents. But like, none of them do. But like, that would be my only hang up.
B
Yeah.
A
But it's a great car. I love.
B
And see, to me, if you're going to like do like the sporty off roady.
A
Yeah.
B
Do it in a cute little five passenger. Stop doing it in the pilot. The pilot doesn't need a transporter. The passport does. I'm obsessed. It's like the, like, it wouldn't be the car that I would drive because I have too many kids, but like a dad car. Like, then I do so many consultations. The next time someone's like, what's like a cool dad car? I'm saying you should get the Honda Passport transport done.
A
Yeah, it's. It is great. It was super comfortable. It felt big. Yeah. I just, I loved it.
B
Yeah, we're gooped and gagged. Is the tour out yet?
A
No, it's not. I still need to edit it. We have like a laundry list of tours that need to go out.
B
Such a laundry list.
A
Such a laundry list.
B
Okay, our next story is. This is just something that I kind of want to get your take on. I sent it to you already, but Jeep has a new ad out for their wagon here.
A
Yeah, speaking of, like, people just putting unhinged advertisements out there.
B
This is a clean podcast, so I'm gonna proceed with caution. But I would probably. There's no way to proceed with much more caution than what I will. And I would, I would not want my children to hear what I'm about to tell you guys. So I'm just gonna put that out there. So Jeep hired this female comedian, what's her name? Elizabeth.
A
Eliza something.
B
I had never heard of her.
A
No. But she has like a million Followers.
B
Yeah.
A
So people have heard of her. I had never seen her. People have heard of her.
B
But I also didn't like the ad because it didn't really say who she was.
A
Well, I don't think it needed to. It said she was a comedian.
B
Well, I just think it would have been helpful. Like, who is this person? Like, for me, because I just didn't know who it was.
A
What more context do you want?
B
I don't know. So she pitches this, like, idea of, like, hey, we need to be selling the Wagoneer. I guess, like, there was an article written on Jalopnik, which. What even is that? Like a fake news station or a real news station? Doesn't matter.
A
Some, like, some.
B
Some website. I've heard of it before. I don't know what it is, but Jalopnik voted the Grand Wagoneer the best car to have sex in, which I don't know why they got. I mean, I would like. I would like more information on that.
A
I'm sure you could read the article should have been probably on industry news.
B
Let me. Let me look up the article.
A
So she takes the approach of, yeah, we're trying to sell this for families, but, like, let's talk about making families. And it's this long skit, and it's. It's funny, but it is, like, it's a tad. It's a tad vulgar.
B
It's a tad vulgar. And I didn't like it because, well, I went back and forth with it because I'm not trying to be like a. I'm not trying to be like. I'm not trying to center myself and be like, no, this is a family car. Like, it should only be about the families. But the first time that Jeep talked about the Grand Wagoneer, they were talking about how, like, the Grand Wagoneer goes golfing on the weekdays and sailing on the weekends. And it was like this, like, aspirational, like, man who drove this car. And I'm like, well, that's just not going to be true. First of all, that man's obviously driving a Range Rover. Like, no one. No one who has a sailboat also has a Grand Wagoneer. I think that's just like. I think you'd have to run the numbers on that. But those two are not aligning. So I felt like that was out of touch, because also, it's a family car. It's a family car. It's a family car. And then they go so far the other direction, where then in. In the ad, the people at Jeep are trying to Be like, no, it's a family car. You know, we're trying to do this, this, and this. And she's like, oh, okay, no problem. Like, put me with like a hot husband. And like, I'll just like. And she's like, I don't even know she's a parent. So it was kind making fun in a playful way that like, all of the family friendly features are just better to have for sex. I mean, am I describing it right?
A
Yeah. Go watch it.
B
Go watch. Was bold, which. And it's got people talking about it.
A
No, and it has people talking. And that's. And I think that's good. I'm. I wasn't like. And I don't think you were too. I'm. I'm not offended by it.
B
I'm not offended by it.
A
Takes a lot to offend me. Um, but I was just like, oh. Like, it's kind of the same thing with the hatch thing where it's just like, wow, that was kind of a lot. People aren't doing that. Like, people are not that aggressive in their commercials. And it was a tad aggressive, but I was like, yeah, okay, it'll take.
B
It feel like a Saturday Night Live skit.
A
It felt it did. Which is like, it's a take. It's something new, it's something fresh, you know, whatever. It's. It's. It's a campaign.
B
Well, and at least to me, I, I found it less offensive than the original one because at least this one was being funny where the other one was being called serious. Like, they wanted, like, the sailors of the world to drive their grand wagoneers and like, not the mobs of the world. And this one felt funny. I would love to hear what other people's take, though.
A
Yeah, we definitely need. I think that. I think I saw like this be posted in one of the Facebook groups. And I, I don't think it had any comments on it yet. But, like, I want to go back and see what, what people are saying.
B
We should post it on like, the carpool Instagram and just so we can like, start a discussion thread that way.
A
Maybe just like, get a vibe check.
B
I think it's funny.
A
Okay, well, now it's time for Ditch the Drive Thru, where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut. Now here's what I'm making for dinner this week. Haven't made it yet, but it's kind of like a different flavor profile, if you will. So, like, we've all seen the Chick Fil A hacks on, like, how to get, like, higher protein, you know, and lower calories, whatever. And a lot of them is like, get the Mac and cheese, get nuggets, put buffalo sauce on it, shake it up in a salad container. Right. You've seen this, right?
B
Yeah. Yeah.
A
So I'm like, what if I made buffalo Mac and cheese? Like, I made homemade Mac and cheese for my son, who loves it. And then I made me and Maddie Crock pot Buffalo crock pot chicken, which we love but haven't had in so long because the kids can't eat it. And I'm like, what if we just made that?
B
So it sounds so tasty.
A
Buffalo Mac and cheese.
B
Honestly, I don't know if I've ever had buffalo Mac and cheese. And it's totally one of those do the most, do the least recipes. Like do it homemade or make Kraft and chicken nuggets and throw Frank's in there.
A
Yeah, no, I'm gonna do it upright. Like, I. I'm gonna go find something. I honestly might go get the Chick Fil a buffalo sauce because that's like so good. But so is the primal kitchen one.
B
Oh, Primal kitchen smacks.
A
But I, I also follow this account. Tasty shreds. Do you follow him?
B
You've told me about him in the past.
A
He posts like, it's like such guy food where it's like buffalo Mac and cheese, like, like bacon ranch chicken. Like, it's just. I'm sorry, it's just guy food. But he does it in like a very high protein kind of way. And he has a buffalo chicken Mac and cheese recipe. Now his is like, I'm going to make it a little bit fresher than his, but he puts bacon on top of it. Like, it looks excellent. So that is what I'm making for dinner this week.
B
That sounds super tasty. I am kind of also doing pasta Monday and I'm going just like for your classic spaghetti tonight.
A
Oh, I am actually doing that too as well.
B
Yeah, I believe it or not, spaghetti is not in my bi weekly rotation, like my every other week rotation. And it needs to start being in it for a multitude of reasons. You know, it's easy and my kids like it. I don't know, I think I just probably ate it like so much and got a little burnt out. And I'm just not making it like, it's just easily a meal we should have every other week. It's so. It's cheap, it's good.
A
I make it all the time. And tonight when I make it. I'm also gonna make, like, mini meatballs.
B
Yeah.
A
I'm gonna make homemade meatballs, but normally I do, like, a regular size meatball. I'm gonna try my hand at, like, a party meatball just. Just to see if that's more palatable for James.
B
I was going to make a meatball, but I'm not going to. And I'm just going to do a little meat sauce instead.
A
I think that's fine.
B
Yeah, I think that's. I had such a scary anchovy, Almost scared the other day. No. Well, I went to a potluck, like one does, and I was like, oh, a meat. A meatball. Like, let me get eat this meatball. Because, like, I could use some protein. Because, you know, sometimes you go to a potluck or like, a little girls thing, and it's like, there's a lot of dips and there's not a lot of protein.
A
Yeah.
B
And I put it in my mouth and I. Before I swallowed, I was like, what if she put Worcestershire in her meatballs? Because, like, I do. Or I did spit it out. The person who made them had already left the party, so I had to call. Actually, I had a friend call and ask what they put in their meatballs so I could keep my anxiety to a minimum. She did not put Worcestershire in there. Oh.
A
But, yeah, exhausting.
B
I know. I know it sucks. But it'll be okay.
A
Yeah, it will be.
B
But also say is I don't need to be eating. I don't need to be eating potluck meatballs. Just going forward, if there's a question.
A
That people put it in, like. Yeah, I mean, I never put worse shire. I don't really use worshire ever.
B
Yeah, I use it, like, all the time.
A
That's kind of crazy.
B
Like, my roasted veggies, my beef stew, and my meatballs. Now it's just gone. Oh, my gosh. I wonder if I can have Costco meatloaf still or if they added in Costco meatloaf. That's gonna be tough.
A
We'll have to find out.
B
Yeah, they really shouldn't, because, like, then people with fish allergies can't have it. Yeah. And I am, like, just really learning a lot about how people should just be. Maybe they are. Maybe I'm just not noticing it. But, like, you shouldn't just add an allergen for no reason, you know?
A
Yeah.
B
Don't just add an allergen. To add an allergen, that's crazy. But, like, I definitely have in the Past.
A
Yeah. Yeah, No, I definitely am, like, learning a lot more about allergies and, like, how ser. How serious they actually are and, like, how scary it can be, like, for you and also for parents of kids with allergies, like, sending them to school and stuff. And I'm just like. And now that you're a mom, like, you take everything so much more. Like, anything you see, you just see through a different lens. Just like, I just. My heart just goes out.
B
Yeah. Goes out. My heart goes up.
A
Speaking of our hearts going out, it is time for Blake's Besties, where we read the stories from our followers of their babies that they lost too soon during Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month. This is our last week of Blake's Besties. I love doing Blake's Besties, so I am bummed that it is our last week, but I appreciate everyone listening and writing in. So we have some stories we want to share. And I'm going to save. I'm going to save one for the end because I know I. I cried so much reading it. I know it's going to be hard for me to get through, but it's from the perspective of a dad, and that is something we've never had before. So I just want to hang on, hang with us, because it's. It's powerful. And I just say.
B
I also want to say, like, we've had a lot of submissions are like, hey, I don't know if it's. I. You know, I don't. Don't know if I qualify or I don't know if I can write in. It's like, no, if you're even thinking about it, you can.
A
Yeah.
B
This is for everyone.
A
Yeah.
B
Did you send me that? Mine.
A
I emailed it to you. Oh, sorry. I forwarded you the email. Okay. This comes from Lauren. Hi, Kelly and Liz. I was inspired to share my story after hearing from the woman on your last podcast who had to have a hysterectomy, me, and is considering adoption to grow her family. Perhaps a story can help her in some way. In 2020, we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, conceived after a year of trying. When he turned one, we started trying again. We were elated when we were pregnant after only six months at my. But at my first appointment at nine weeks, we found I'd had a missed miscarriage. And at some. At some point around five weeks, the fetus had stopped growing. The couple of people I knew who'd had miscarriages had gotten pregnant again or right after. And I felt like if I could just get pregnant. I would again. I would be okay. Spoiler alert. It's now been more than three years, and I still haven't gotten pregnant. We've transferred four embryos, but zero pregnancies. So I eventually had to figure out how to truly grieve that miscarriage and that child who's not with us, as well as my inability to carry more children. It's been a long journey, sweetened by the joy of watching my son grow up. My husband and I had discussed adoption before getting married. And while. And even while waiting the results of our last embryo transfer, we knew that adoption felt right for us. We always felt strongly that our family was not complete. Long story short, I now have the most incredible baby, brought to us by the complicated beauty and heartbreak of adoption. My older son talks every day how much he loves having a baby in the family. And it's been incredible to finally see him be a big brother. So. And when I stare into my baby's beautiful eyes and listen to him giggle, I am struck with God, with. I am struck with hearing God tell me, why did you ever worry? I had a plan all along.
B
Well, that's one thing about God is He always does.
A
And it's so impossible to feel that in the moment. And we read a lot of these stories, and I do feel like a majority of the people who write in are always say. And then a year later, like, we have our rainbow baby. But, like, when you're going through it, you don't know you're gonna. If you're gonna get that.
B
Yeah.
A
And it's gotta be just, like, so hard.
B
Yeah.
A
And obviously in this story, in this case, she didn't get her, you know, her own rainbow baby, but she. Through adoption.
B
Yeah. And it's also not to also, like, forget the pain because I also don't love, like, everything happens for a reason. Like, actually strangle you. Like, that's not what I'm saying. But there is, like, some comfort. And I talked. I've talked about this before. Like, I take so much comfort in knowing that God has hand selected me and my children for this time in history. And I do take a lot of comfort in that. So, like, even though, you know, we live in a broken world and, like, things are gonna happen, things can and will happen to me and my family. As you, as all of you guys in your family. Like, nothing surprises God, and he chose you for this time for a reason, you know, like, and.
A
Yeah, like, and in this case, with the adopt, the adoption, like, he knew that this. This baby that's not biologically yours needed you to be his. His mother.
B
Yeah. Okay. This comes from Marley. Hi Kelly and Liz. First off, thanks for this segment. It's something I hoped I would never be a part of and would pray for those who shared each year. And yet now I feel so grateful for the space to celebrate our angel baby. We have. We have hoped and prayed for a baby for years and finally got pregnant earlier this summer that sadly ended in a missed miscarriage. What is a missed miscarriage?
A
It's. I guess you. It's when you don't realize that the baby.
B
You don't realize that.
A
Yeah, I think it's too early on.
B
When on the worst day of our lives we went in for an ultrasound and found our precious baby no longer had a heartbeat and stopped growing. Just. Just the week before everything looked great. My husband had started calling our angel baby Sparkle from his very. From the very, very first ultrasound due to fertility treatments, our baby just always sparkled on the screen and also had a sweet flickering of light heartbeat even before it was expected to see one. We wanted to find out the gender at delivery, so we always joked that the baby was either loving or hating the nickname their daddy had already given them. While I was pregnant, all I wanted was the absolute coldest possible chocolate milk to where my husband started pre chilling glasses in the fridge for me so it was ready when I needed was the most joy filled weeks of our lives. Carrying that little life and I know I will miss them for the rest of mine. Our loss has changed us forever. But we are so grateful that this baby knew nothing but the overwhelming feeling of love and excitement from so many over their life and spent every day with just us until Jesus called them home. We lean heavily on Romans 8:18. The pain that you have been feeling can't compare to the joy that is coming. We can't wait for the joy filled day when we have our baby in our arms and are trusting and believing that God that he has a good plan for us all. Thanks for always being a bright spot in my weeks and the opportunity to share about our precious baby's life.
A
Yeah, Sparkle. Okay, I'm already crying so this is going to be hard to get through, but this is beautifully written. This from comes from Kate and her husband. Hey Kelly and Liz. I might have broken girl code, but I recently shared a few Blake's bestie stories with my husband. Also, my husband listens to every podcast and he has cried at every Blake's bestie story this year. So please share with Share with the men. They hit so close to home and help me finally find the words for what we've been walking through these past few months. We have two little ones, three in one, and have had two miscarriages this year. It's been hard to wrap my head around being a part of this club, but these stories have been so healing. So thank you for doing this well, my husband, who works in finance, who doesn't have a creative bone in his body and usually just signs his name on cards without adding anything else, wrote me this email and said I could share it with you all from my husband I watched the woman I love fall apart right in front of me. I held her when she couldn't hold herself. I made plans for the babies I'll never meet. I buried Hope twice this year. I felt numb in my grief some. I felt numb in my own grief sometimes because I've been so focused on holding her up, keeping our kids okay, and making sure she had space to fall apart when she needed to. I take the kids out so she could rest or just have a minute without being asked for more blueberries or questions she couldn't answer yet. There's this weird guilt that comes with being a dad who's grieving. We're supposed to be strong, steady and quiet. But we dreamed of those babies, too. I pictured their faces. I picked out names. I even imagined rebuilding that impossible crib. I know I complained about it, but honestly, I'd give anything to rebuild that crib sitting in our storage unit right now. I was on a work trip when we found out about the second loss. She was further along and we thought everything was okay. I couldn't get back in time and I'll never forgive myself for that. She had to walk through that alone. She even took our kids with her to the OB that day, fully thinking it was just going to be a usual quick appointment and they would be on their way. Instead, they saw their mom break down right in front of them. If there's one thing I've learned through all this, it's that weeks don't matter. Loss doesn't care how far along you were. Life is life. Grief is grief. And when people say at least you weren't that far or at least you got an ultrasound, I didn't. They mean well, but it doesn't help. I see my wife walk away, trying to hold it together. She's so strong, but those words still sting. We're leaning on God more than ever right now. I'm watching her find purpose in the pain. And there's such strength in that surrender. We're praying that if it's his will, he'll add more seats around our kitchen table. And if he doesn't, we're praying for peace and understanding. Maybe the big family we pictured isn't our story, and that's something we will need to learn to accept. So I guess this is really just a love letter to my wife. Maybe there are other dads out there grieving quietly in the background. We see the mess and the miracles. Our hearts have holes, but we keep showing up. We don't always have the right words, but we're speaking in the ways we can. Quietly, sacrificially, instead, fastly. Dad. Oh, my God.
B
I'm so.
A
Kate, you have a wonderful. Overwhelmed by that.
B
Gosh.
A
I mean, it's just like. Like, I. I'm. Like I'm kicking myself because, like, I never think about the dad.
B
Really? Because, no, literally, I had thought about the dads one time.
A
I know we're horrible, and I just. I just thought that was incredibly powerful. So thank you, Kate, for sending that in. And I'm sure there are so. As many women that have written in there, there is a dad behind it who I'm sure is feeling the same way. And I'm. This will be relatable, healing something to the dads out there. It was beautifully written.
B
This has been, like, such an amazing Blake's Besties month. Yeah, I guess we didn't do it last year because we had just given. We were off.
A
Didn't we do it? We didn't do it.
B
The girls were born in September, so I think we took October off from the podcast.
A
I thought we still did it in November. I don't think we took off. I have a Blake's Besties 2024.
B
And you're right. We did it. You're right. We did it in November. You're right. Anyway, I'm just so grateful to be able to do this, and I'm so proud of all of you guys for writing it, and I'm so proud of those of you who have listened to it. And I know that it's hard, and I know that it's triggering, but I think it's so important to hear these stories not to. Not to scare you, not to do this, but, like, just to know what other people are going through or have gone through and to, like, just honor those babies.
A
Like, it's just.
B
It's the same thing, you know, I've.
A
Said it a hundred times, and I just want to say one more thing about Blake's Besties, I want to talk about Rachel, Blake's mom, who, like, I follow her on Instagram because, like, I've met her, and, you know, we do, like, Blake's besties, like, and just, like.
B
Came to the auto show and, like, didn't even tell us she was coming.
A
She's like, we're, like, we were going around meeting everyone. We're like, oh, hi, I'm Kelly and Lynn. She goes, I'm Blake's mom, and Kelly and I, like, we met a celebrity. Like, you're Blake's mom.
B
Like, why didn't you tell us you were. You bought a ticket. Like, why didn't you tell us you were coming? Yeah, she was so crazy for that.
A
No, she was so crazy. Anyway, on her Instagram, like, she posts about Blake as much as she posts about her other kids. Like, she. She's constantly talking about Blake and constantly posting things, and that's why I'm just, like, so proud of her. And, like, I love that this is called Blake's Besties because it's just, like, further.
B
Yeah.
A
Talks about Blake and, like, the impact that Blake's life has had on the world on. On Rachel and on all of us.
B
Yeah. And I got. Liz has said it before, but I think, like, my favorite thing is just giving them your. Giving them the baby's name when you're ordering coffee. Like, that's such an easy, like, fun thing to do. I might start doing it. I'm gonna start saying my name is Blake for my coffees.
A
Yeah.
B
Just, like. So she's just. Rachel's great.
A
It's so fun, too, like, to, like, see their name and, like, you have picked out and you love them and whatever. It's a good idea. Okay, well, that's gonna be our episode, so thank you so much for listening to the carpool podcast. Our next episode is on Halloween.
B
It's on Halloween, and we've heard the cries about the Dancing with the Stars recaps. They want them back.
A
Okay, we'll do it at the end.
B
No, I think we could do it Wednesday morning. Oh, recording a podcast. It'll drop on Friday. About the recaps.
A
I know. Do them at the end of the story at the podcast.
B
Oh, that's fine.
A
But they're gonna get. They're gonna get shorter because we're not gonna have to go through everyone. Like, even. Honestly, I have some hot bullet points that I would love to go over with everyone, but, like, I'll save it for Friday.
B
Yeah, let's do it. We'll have a big old. It'll be hot. If they're doing a Halloween episode, it'll be Halloween. So Friday's your Halloween episode.
A
Oh, it's a Halloween episode. It's a very spooky Dookie episode.
B
And, you know, the toast girls always dress up. Are we gonna do that? They always, like, dress up.
A
We have our costumes.
B
Oh, yeah. Traffic, Conan stoplight.
A
We just spent freaking $80 on those. We better wear them again. All right, love you guys.
B
Bye.
A
