Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly.
Liz
Parenting is such, like, a level playing field in some ways. In some ways it's not. In some ways it is. But I was like, he was so much cooler than me, and now I.
Kelly
Think I'm cooler than him and Liz. Ultimately, I'm like, it couldn't be easier to just make popsicles at home, so why would I buy them? I can't make a built puff bar at home. Your mom time off starts now. Now. Welcome back to the Carbo podcast with Kelly and Liz. Sorry, I hit record. What? As soon as you took a bite. What are you eating?
Liz
We had it yesterday. It's my current hyper fixation. It's bread with turkey pepper jack cheese, mayonnaise in a salted tomato. Let me tell you something. The salted tomato takes it from, like, kids sandwich to, like, deli gourmet.
Kelly
Okay. Because you made it, or I had it yesterday as well, at your house. And I'll be honest, I thought it was extremely mid. But I didn't have the tomato one. I didn't know you had tomatoes.
Liz
Oh, yeah. I added a salted tomato, so that's kind of what I did. For me, I didn't know. I'm actually glad that I can kind of bring this up with you in front of, like, a lot of people, because I'm going to be a little sassy to you for a sec because I got an order of built Puff bars, which I, like, love my Built Puff Bars.
Kelly
And, like, you were so excited.
Liz
We'll get there. I got a new. Like, they're. They're not. They're not easy to find because Costco used to have them. Costco didn't have them. So you have to, like, they're, like, not really on Amazon. So you're like, it's a to do. You have to go on their website and order them, which is just like. That's a to do in itself.
Kelly
Oh, you can order them on their. On their website?
Liz
Yeah. Where were you ordering them from?
Kelly
Amazon? Yeah.
Liz
What? Elizabeth. No, you go to the source.
Kelly
Okay, I'm going to the source. Okay, Sorry. Continue.
Liz
But, you know, you got to make an account and fill out your shipping information. Like, it's such a to do. And if you're gonna do it, you unfortunately also have to, like, order a lot or it's not worth doing it. So all this to say, and I'm gonna be honest, shipping doesn't. Shipping takes a couple of days. It's. I've waited up to, like, a week and a Half before. So I finally get my shipment in, and Elizabeth, like, didn't tell me, and she took, like, three of each or one of each I took.
Kelly
First of all, you said, do you want some? And I said, sure.
Liz
Well, I was hoping you would say no because in the past you told me you didn't like them, so.
Kelly
Yeah, okay, well, I'm. I'll order some, and I will give you one of each. I didn't think it was that big of a deal. In the past, I've tried them, and I didn't like them because they just taste, like, so artificial. And don't get me wrong, they do still taste artificial. But I'm on a health journey right now, and I'm just being, like, so very mindful of what I'm eating. I'm counting my calories and all the things. For me. I love it. I'm a calorie counter. It makes me feel more in control. It's weird because I feel more in control of what I'm eating when I'm counting my calories. I don't know when I'm not. I'm okay, if it's not for you. Move past it.
Liz
No, that's not being sassy. I just, like, I'm. That's. So. It would do the opposite for me.
Kelly
It does. And. And I think that people can sometimes think that, like, calorie counting can be toxic. And I think for some people, it can. For me, I'm not an intu eater, so I will. My brain will shut off, and I will just go eat whatever. Anything. Like, I will go eat anything. And so I'd be like, why would I want this built puff bar when I'm fine with just go eating with just eating a cookie? You know? It's like. So then it's not as good when you're comparing it to, say, a cookie. But lately I. I've been pregnant the last two years, and before I got pregnant, I was very disciplined, very healthy. Worked out seven, six, seven days a week. Ate very clean. And when I got pregnant, I threw it all out the window and whatever. Say what you want to say about me. I haven't felt like myself because I haven't been having that discipline and being in the gym and eating healthy and all this stuff. So I woke up one day and I'm like, I'm gonna download my fitness pal again, and I'm gonna start counting my calories. And it has. I have felt more free, to be honest with you. It's weird because it's. I'M restricting in some ways, but it allows me to be more free in other areas.
Liz
And then you don't feel guilty because you don't feel guilty if you had something.
Kelly
Yeah. And I also think too, it's like, I'm on a path now. And maybe that's just what it is. I'm on a path. I'm. I have 15 pounds pre. You know, 15 pounds to lose from where I was pre baby. Really? 20. But I'm. I'm gonna let those other five just. I'll hang on to the other five. And I just have a path and I can see the light and I can see my direction, and I'm really loving it. I'm really excited. So anyway, I wanted something sweet and I also gave up sweets for lunch, so I haven't been able to have like a straight up ice cream.
Liz
Oh, I forgot.
Kelly
So I had one of your built puff bars, and after not having, like, true sweets in a long time, it was tasting very good.
Liz
Well, I had a separate person call me, someone who works for the car mom, Stephanie. She called me today and she was like, you were so right about the bill pop bars. And she's like, people aren't talking about them. I'm like, people aren't. People are talking about them because they're always selling out. But I'm here to talk about them. I need to give them a platform.
Kelly
She goes, how lucky are we that we live in the same time that built puff bars exist?
Liz
Anyway, I don't have a code, but Sam, Smaller Sam, pcos on Instagram does. And her code, smaller Sam.
Kelly
Then you get. Okay, perfect. Okay. And that's on their website. Okay, done. Yeah, I'm ordering some. They don't have flavors, like, in stock right now.
Liz
They do have a lot of flavors in stock.
Kelly
No, they have five.
Liz
Oh. Last time I checked, they only had three. So you're already on it anyway. Okay, that's that on that. I like it.
Kelly
Okay, sorry. That's that on that. I'll have to order after this podcast. Anyway, we have a cast. Do you like cast better than pod. We cast to get to.
Liz
I just don't. When you say on the pod, it sounds like you're like a millennial. Like, just like. It's like a bro who's like, I am on the pod, bruh. It's so. I have to say something. I have to get this off my chest.
Kelly
What?
Liz
Oh, you look like.
Kelly
I don't know what you're gonna say.
Liz
There is just like, something. So I don't Even I. I can't put a word to the emotion, but I was doing my light little Facebook creep the other day, and I came across, like, someone I know for just, like, a guy that I knew in my previous. Like. Like, never dated the guy or anything. He was just, like, a cool guy on the baseball team. Okay. And now he's just, like, a chewy old dad.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And it's like, it's. Parenting is such, like, a level playing field in some ways. In some ways it's not. In some ways it is. But I was like, he was so much cooler than me, and now I think I will limit it.
Kelly
Parenting really does level the playing field out for everyone. It really knocks everyone down.
Liz
It's. Well. And it. Yeah. So I'm not saying I feel I. I hadn't thought about this person in seven years, like, genuinely.
Kelly
Well, Kel, some people peak in high school or in college, but I'm not.
Liz
Even saying, like, he's not peaking. Like, I. I don't know anything about him. And, like, it's not even that he, like, looked bad in the picture or, like, anything. It's just like.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Like, you're at Disney on Ice.
Kelly
Okay, I see what you're getting at now.
Liz
Like, okay, you know? Yeah. You know, you have the diaper backpack on. You're holding your little girl. Like, it's just like, okay. We're all. Okay.
Kelly
Seen it.
Liz
We've all done that.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I bet your wife made you wear Christmas jammies and take a picture.
Kelly
Yeah. We're all doing the same thing now.
Liz
I'm just saying it's like, I can't express and don't go wrong. Then, like, people who are mean to you in high school, then, like, I mean, there's a level of that that I probably, like, need to go, you know, I probably need to not have those kind of feelings because it feels a little good. But this wasn't even that. Like, I didn't even feel. It was just, like, very.
Kelly
So what you're saying now we'd have.
Liz
Something to talk about?
Kelly
Yeah. Or like, you lived this life that seemed like you had it all figured out. I'll go. And you were cooler than me, and now we're both doing the same thing.
Liz
But we're both watching each other.
Kelly
We ended up in the same. We ended up at the same spot.
Liz
It's like when we tell parents, you know, whether you do breast milk or formula, like, that I'll end up eating McDonald's at the end of the day. Like, you know, I mean, I've been, it's like, you know what, whether you're like the jock and I'm like the student council person, we all end up watching Bluey. Watching Bluey and chained in diapers. Mm, mm. The great equalizer.
Kelly
The great equalizer. Oh my gosh. That's actually hilarious. Well, Kel, I feel like I have so many updates to give. Let me just run it, let me just run it back. I've had like a wild last several years and the end of 2025, I really feel like it's going to come to the end of my go, go, go, non stop crazy life changes and I'm gonna feel settled with where I'm at. At least that's what my goal is going to be. Let me just run you through where I, where I've been. It's 2021. 2021, Maddie gets home from a year long deployment. We get engaged. We start to move home from, from back to St. Louis, from Dallas. 2022, we buy our first house and move back to St. Louis. Maddie gets a new job. He's working night shift. It sucks. We get married. 20 22, we also find out that we're pregnant with our first child. 23, we have our first child. 24, we find out we're pregnant with our second child. We move again a different part in Missouri, have our second child. 2025, I now have two kids. I'm in my long term home. And what we plan to do this year is Maddie's graduating with his MBA he's having, he's going to do something new in the Marine Corps, which means he won't be as gone as often, which will be great for me. Don't plan on getting pregnant. Major home renovations done, going to be done. And then by the end of 2025, I just feel like I'm going to be like sat and settled and I'm so excited. It's just been so many life changes. Go, go, go non stop. And end of 2025, I just feel like it's all going to have come to a close and then I'll probably get pregnant again. Probably, hopefully.
Liz
But that'll be, that'll be a walk in the park. A pregnancy, just one.
Kelly
A pregnancy, a pregnancy without moving, without my husband being gone for a bit, you know, a chunk of it. It's gonna be a walk in the park. But we are doing a lot of renovations at our new house and I haven't, and I haven't talked about this. Oh, and the other bay, life change I'm taking my kids out of daycare and I'm getting a nanny, which is huge. Which I wasn't really going to talk about, but I don't know why I wasn't going to talk about it. But we are getting a nanny. It's the same price as daycare, which is crazy. Daycare is just so expensive. If you have to send two kids full time. In my daycare, like dozens.
Liz
Two.
Kelly
Two young kids? Yeah, two young kids full time. They don't offer a sibling discount. Neither one of them, like, they're both really expensive right now and they don't offer like a four day a week situation. So it's like five days a week. It's. It's crazy. So we're getting a nanny. I'm very excited about it. We're also renovating our kitchen. And when we decided that we were going to run out of our kitchen, I was like, well, if I'm going to run at the kitchen, I might as well renovate the laundry room. And if I'm going to renovate the laundry room, well, eventually I want to. We're going to have to move out of the house. Well, if we're going to move out of the house, I might as well redo the floors. And it's just been this like, snowball effect of all of these renovations that have to get done, which you had.
Liz
A plan to all do. It's just the timing of them is if. If you're here, you're already there.
Kelly
I'm already there. I might as like, let's just do it all. Yeah. I kind of wanted to wait, but like, life is only going to get more crazy and more hectic. So anyway, that's like all the big stuff that I have going on and I'm so excited and I just feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And my life for so many years has just been, get through this, get through this, get through this. And now I just have to get through this. And then I'm gonna be like, set.
Liz
I'm very excited for you. I hope you take us like along the journey on the home renovations. I think that that's like such. I'm glad that I'm not going through it again. And I feel very like hearing just your logistics. I'm just so feeling so blessed that we were able to do it before we moved in.
Kelly
Yeah. Because we will have to move out. We're moving in with Craig and Chris, which will actually be. I'm like, really looking forward to it. You're gonna be so jealous, Kelly.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
Like, I'm gonna be hanging out with mom and dad all the time.
Liz
We should move with me.
Kelly
No.
Liz
Yeah, I know.
Kelly
No, thanks.
Liz
Would be great. Content, though.
Kelly
No, no, I'm. I'm okay. Thank you. And luckily, though, part of the reason we are also able to do the renovation is because Tyler has offered to do a lot of the work that he can do for us.
Liz
Because Tyler's a handy Tyler. One thing about Tyler, he's handy Mandy.
Kelly
He's handy Mandy. He can do it all. So, anyway, big, big things coming. Lots of content to come.
Liz
Well, good. Well, speaking of content to come, do you want to do last three transactions.
Kelly
The segment where we share our recent bank account attractions?
Liz
Yeah, I just thought it could be, like, a fun thing to do.
Kelly
Sure. Let's do it. Let me pull up my Amazon cart.
Liz
Yeah. And I will not include built puff bars, and I would expect you not to include bill puff bars as well.
Kelly
Yeah. But. Oh, well, can we talk about the. Before we get into that, can we talk about the porch decorations?
Liz
Go over to Elizabeth's Instagram. She made a whole real really b about it. And Elizabeth zhuzhed up my porch, which. And the other thing is, my husband is just, like, a little. He gets very nervous when we bring new things into the house. He gets very. He gets a pit in the stomach every time he sees the mail truck come because he's just. I don't know where. I honestly don't know where this is all stemming from. He probably, like, needs. We probably need to, like, look inward on him, but he's just very worried that the house is going to become too cluttered, which, like, spoiler alert, like, we have four kids. Like, it already is. But I'm very. And I. I've now just kind of figured out how to navigate this. Like, he just. If you try to. I think I, like, tried to include him, and it's just better to not include him. And, like, if he's like, what's this? Like, he's over it before he even says it. Like, he doesn't. I don't really know how much he actually cares. Just, like, he doesn't want to, like, see it happen, you know?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Like, I. I think that, like, if he ever. I need him to go on a trip and I'm going to, like, get the house landscaped, I'm just not gonna. I'm just, like, not. And I'm just gonna very much ask for forgiveness. That's what you have to do with him.
Kelly
So do you also. Do you like it?
Liz
Do I like it? I love it.
Kelly
Thank you.
Liz
It's so cute. I love the rocking chair. I can't believe the quality of the rocking chair, to be honest with you.
Kelly
The quality of the rocking chair is just from Amazon, and rocking chairs are.
Liz
Not cheap without that one. But that one was. I mean, that was, like, what it was.
Kelly
I think it was 95, which. But I mean, that feels good to me.
Liz
That feels good to me. Like, I've walked by a rocking chair before, and it's like 350. Yeah, I'm sure it's, like, handcrafted. Like, this one's not, but, you know.
Kelly
All to say, but it was wood.
Liz
It's wood. I think the planners are nice. I can't wait to, like. I mean, I won't do it, but I hope that you remember to, like, throw, like, a Christmas bow on them.
Kelly
Yeah, for sure. For sure. Okay, well, go check it out. It's on my. On my Instagram. Okay, let's get into our recent bank account subtractions. You know what I bought the other day? Haven't used it, but bought it since. I'm on, like, such a get fit journey. A belt hole puncher. I want to start wearing belts more. The girls are wearing belts.
Liz
It's an accessory. It's an. You forget to accessorize. It's like you have jeans and a T shirt. What if you. What if you put on a belt?
Kelly
What have you put on a belt in the hoop. And, you know, as many of us are. We're fluctuating in our sizes. So I put on this belt, and it fit around my waist. It fit around my hips. It didn't fit around my waist. And, like, I wanted it to be, like, a waist moment. So, you know, I said, you know what? Whatever. I'm gonna buy a hole puncher.
Liz
The rest of your life.
Kelly
I'll have the rest of my life.
Liz
It was.
Kelly
It was 10 bucks.
Liz
Yeah, you'll have the rest of your life.
Kelly
Yeah. I haven't used it yet.
Liz
Okay. Well, I recently am also, you know, I'm on a health journey adjacent. I mean, we're just. We're going about this a little differently, but I haven't been working out. I'm just like, I'm sorry. I'm never gonna be the influencer.
Kelly
I just.
Liz
I don't. I'm not. I'm just never gonna get my life around to, like, post every time I work out. And also, you guys don't need to See that? But, like, I am working out pretty consistently right now. I'm on week three, so I feel good about that, but I really want to. And I work out with Libby most mornings. I put her on the ground. I only do a 30 minute workout. Like a 30 minute, like, guided weight workout, which is a start for me. And I just, like, right now, like, I just put, like, Libby on the ground. But the other night, the other day, it was so nice outside. I'm like, so nice. I have this huge garage. I'm like, I should work out in the garage. And then I can put Libby in her, like, bouncer thing in the garage, and she can, like, bounce around and I can be getting my pump on. So I bought just two weights to keep in the garage.
Kelly
Okay, what. What weights did you get?
Liz
So I have a 5, 10, and a 15 downstairs now. Could I have taken one of those to the garage? Yes. But the point is, it's like, listen, logistically, like, so if I decide I want to work out in the garage, then I'm supposed to, like, hold Libby or, like, put Libby somewhere run down. I just, I wanted it to be so easy for me. And sometimes I feel like the 5 to 10 jump is a little big. Like, I felt like I kind of, for some of, like, you know, my raises. So I got an eight. I'm gonna keep the eights in the garage.
Kelly
Nice. I love it.
Liz
And then I was gonna buy a yoga mat, but I was like, you know what? I'm buy a yoga mat. You know what? I have, I have a ton of quilts. I bought all these quilts at these dinner auctions. So I brought a quilt. And it's gonna be fine. It's gonna be. It's gonna totally check the box. So I'm hoping that. And I downloaded the. I got my Peloton app on my phone so I can do my Maddie Magagios split training five days. And I'm just like, I could do a garage workout in a moment's notice. Like, if the kids are playing nicely outside, I could grab my eight pounds and just like, start pumping.
Kelly
That's amazing.
Liz
So that's what. So I'm very excited.
Kelly
Okay, good. I'm excited for you. That's a good idea. I should do the same thing.
Liz
I just need to be able to, like, I mean, this summer, like, especially, like, when you're a mom and you're at home with your kids in any capacity, any of your kids, any time of day, I don't always want to, like, reserve it for Nap time either. Because like nap time. I'd like to get something else in or maybe not myself. Like, I think I should be able to do a 30 minute workout with my kids in some capacity.
Kelly
I agree. Orally. Okay, start 30 minutes, whatever. You get 15 minutes. And it's better than nothing.
Liz
Better than nothing. And my kids play so well outside. Like even Fred, if I. And Libby is so happy in her little like walker bouncer thing. So that's. That, that's. That's the current plan.
Kelly
Okay, here's something that I got. Okay, this is very specific, but it's the second time I've ordered it so.
Liz
Specific than the belt.
Kelly
These are. These are very niche problem solving things that I've ordered lately. I bought more glue trap strips. What's a glue trap strip, Liz? It is a piece of paper with like a super, super sticky.
Liz
Doesn't it like catch mice?
Kelly
It catches bugs. And here's why I get it. There are stink bugs in my house. They can get through the little crevices and I'll just see a stink bug crawling on a window. I don't like the feeling of taking a tissue and feeling a bug in the tissue makes my skin crawl. My husband's not always around to get the bug for me, so I have to man up and do it. So I bought these glue traps and what I do is I take the glue trap and I just go and like stick it on the back of the stink bug that's like crawling up the window. And then I didn't have to touch the stink bug. And then he stuck to the trap. And I'll do it with wasps. If there's upper wasps in my house, which there are sometimes. And stink bugs. And would work on a spider too, but I haven't seen any spiders. And sometimes I'll like leave them at the. On the top of like my windowsills or stuff just to like catch passive. Passive insects.
Liz
That's so good. See, we catch our bait live to feed it to the reptiles here. Oh yeah.
Kelly
How do you catch it live?
Liz
We put in a jar. Major takes or. Yeah. Or like slightly dead. Like they'll eat.
Kelly
I feel like it's gotta be fresh.
Liz
Like, you know, today's catch, if you will.
Kelly
Who's catching it? You're not catching it.
Liz
I'm not scared of a stink bug.
Kelly
See, I don't like the feeling.
Liz
I'm not. I listen a bird. I can't literally. I was. When I was home alone this past weekend with Fred and Libby, Tyler was like, you have to feed the baby chicks and you have to get the eggs and the baby chicks. I can do because they can't fly. I just don't. I don't. I don't like things that can fly or even flap their wings. I know chickens can't. Can chickens fly? No. I only thing is they can flap their wings. Why do chickens still have wings?
Kelly
Why?
Liz
I guess they can kind of flap cuz like they get. They get kind of high up when they like they roost. Anyway, I was so scared of these chickens. I sent Fred in solo to get the eggs. I was on the other side of the door. Couldn't even get like I sent my 2 year old in solo cuz he's not scared.
Kelly
Wa. I was at your house the other day and I was going to go get the eggs. Those chickens also like don't run in a corner. Like when a person comes in. At least that one black one.
Liz
Penny. I know Penny's friendly and I don't like it. I don't like.
Kelly
No, I get away from me. But go be scared in the corner. I don't want you very close to me.
Liz
I know. Totally.
Kelly
Okay, wait, so what did you buy?
Liz
Oh, oh no. I was just saying that I catch my bait live and then we started talking about.
Kelly
Okay, okay, okay, okay.
Liz
I recently bought more geometry dish towels. I think I talked about this on the last episode but I. Listen to me and listen to me good. Get your mom and your mother in law geometry dish towels for Mother's day. I'm like in the same way that like built puff bars have changed my life. Geometry dish towels. If my gm I only have one right now. If my geometry dish towel is clean, I will. I choose. I hand wash the dishes because that's how much better the dish towel is.
Kelly
Wow. It's okay. I need to order some.
Liz
They are amazing and I just think like get that. Maybe like a wooden spoon. Like one of those cute like wildflower mugs that. That one girly pop sent me.
Kelly
Oh.
Liz
Oh that's cute designs on Etsy. Two H's. Oh, that's cute designs. That's the wildflower mug wrapped in a geometry dish towel. Done. Bada bing. Bada bing.
Kelly
Okay. And you can get them on Amazon. Yeah. Or where do you get them?
Liz
I get them on Amazon. I'm sure. Maybe you could like go to their website. But these are the ones I just got. And let me be clear. Two of them were 32. Like it's a bit of. It's a bit of a. Oh okay.
Kelly
Whoa. It's a just hiccup. Yeah, they're very cute.
Liz
I was going. And they're actually not that cute. Like it's kind of cute, but it's not amazing. But it doesn't even matter to me because they're that good.
Kelly
Okay. Glowing, glowing reviews.
Liz
Like it has over a thousand reviews on Amazon and has a 4.8.
Kelly
Wow.
Liz
There's nothing else I like about them.
Kelly
Okay, done. Say less.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Okay. Something that I bought recently. Sometimes I feel like we are just sold stuff and told that we need to just buy things pre made. Even though it's super easy, just make them ourselves. One thing being popsicles, I don't know what the ingredients are in a popsicle. Like a children's popsicle. I can't imagine it's good. But like when I've been making people. Huh.
Liz
Depends on the popsicle, I would say.
Kelly
No, I'm sure that there are some that are good, but like, I don't know. I don't know what's in a bomb Pop, you know?
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
Since I've been making Sloan's purees, I have like pureed stuff and then I put it in the freezer and like pureed. Just strawberry, frozen. Tastes like. Tastes good. It's nice. So I bought popsicle mold and I'm gonna make popsicles this summer. And I don't think this is a super unique thing because I do think that people make popsicles, but they're like so easy to do. Here's all. Here's how you puree strawberries. In case you don't know. Clean your strawberries, cut that, Cut the leaves off, blend them. You don't even need water because there's like water in the berry. So it becomes liquidy.
Liz
I wouldn't have guessed that. Yeah, Okay.
Kelly
I know because I did this wrong. You could. I mean, for a popsicle, I guess you could add like a little bit of water, but you don't need to. Or fruit juice, I guess, if you want to. And then pour it in your popsicle mold and your popsicles using the fruit. That was maybe gonna go bad. Only one whole ingredient. Just strawberries. No added whatever. Super easy to make. Popsicle mold. Pack of six. Also off Amazon. Everything's off Amazon.
Liz
I think we're just so funny because like this in the same breath. When we're like no added sugar, we're like. So the bill puff bars, like they definitely have something weird.
Kelly
For sure.
Liz
But it's a balance. It's a give and a take.
Kelly
It's A. It's a given a take. And it's just like, ultimately, I'm like, it couldn't be easier to just make popsicles at home, so why would I buy them? I can't make a built puff bar at home.
Liz
Okay, I get that. I get that. But I think sometimes it's like, I don't know. I've never got on the makeup popsicle train. I can't tell you. And I'm not saying this to be sassy to you. I can't tell you how uninspired I am to ever try it, though.
Kelly
I just really.
Liz
Yeah, it just doesn't do anything for me. Like, it's like, where do I put them in my freezer? Like, they're gonna dip over. Like, you know, it doesn't come out of the mold. Right. I don't know. I just. I'm not sure it's for me.
Kelly
I think that you're judging it before you've tried it. Obviously you are, but whatever. So it's not for you. It's not for you. That's fine. I'm just saying, I just think about all the things that were just sold, and we're told, like, because it is sold, therefore you can't just go do it yourself. Maybe it's just me being a trad wife, just, like, wanting to make, like, homemade popsicles, which is frozen fruit juice.
Liz
It's a convenience thing. Like, I want to just.
Kelly
You know, I think that the. The con. Incon. The inconvenience doesn't outweigh that convenience. Like, it's not so inconvenient to me that I can't just make them at home.
Liz
No, I get that. Okay, that's a take. That's a take.
Kelly
And I'm sure we would have. There are some things you're like, I would just prefer to do that at home. And I'm like, no, let me buy it from the store.
Liz
Well, I really want to make strawberry jelly this summer. I don't know what is in. I don't make strawberry jelly or I want to make homemade jalapenos. Like, jarred jalapenos. I don't know why those two things are, like, so important to me. I'm thinking about, like, throwing, like, a girls party to do it.
Kelly
How do you make jelly?
Liz
I'm sure it's not that hard. I think it's probably organic. I could go get. Get strawberries. You put them on the stove. I think jalapenos would be easier.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And I love homemade jarred jalapenos. Like, I love them. So I think that I might do, like, a spicy, sweet party. Kind of like we did, like, with the makeup party. Like, just, like, bring the gals over and, like, we'll do something. Like, we'll walk out if you're, like, with something, you know.
Kelly
Okay. I think jam's really easy to make, Cal.
Liz
I know. I think we should make it.
Kelly
Okay. We need strawberries. Add them to a saucepan. Mix in sugar. Stir frequently over medium heat, bringing to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add lemon juice. Boil for 15 minutes, until jam reaches 220.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
When you read the right temperature, poured into a jar.
Liz
Now, now, that's all fine and dandy. It's how to seal a Mason jar. Because then you have to, like.
Kelly
No, it's the ceiling. I would love to can things. Canning sounds scary.
Liz
It can't be that people have been doing it for so long. And, like, Teller's grandma, like, makes her own grape and strawberry jelly and her own pickles and cans them all. And she's 87, so. 89. I'm sorry. So it does feel like we should be able to handle it.
Kelly
But it's one of those things I need. That's one of those things that I need someone to come over to my house and hold my hand and show me exactly how to do it and write down the answer.
Liz
Well, the problem is she has. She's shown me. I. So I can't ask her again because. So I just. Because that's. I just have to. But I think it's nothing that a TikTok tutorial can't teach me. And here's the other thing. It's like, yeah, I think it's fine. I'm gonna figure it out. We're gonna do that, though. That's, like, something I'm feeling passionate about. I'm gonna, like, make a lemonade. Make a homemade lemonade, and we're gonna jalapeno party.
Kelly
So you would be willing to make strawberry jam, but strawberry popsicles are worried?
Liz
Yeah. No. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know what it is. I don't know. It's fine. I can't explain. I'm curious to hear if anybody else, like, it agrees with me.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
My.
Liz
I still have to do my last transaction. My last transaction is. I'm really struggling with. I've been struggling with Hattie's hair for a while because she has cowlicks for days. Her hair is very thin. No, it's not thin. She has a decent Amount of hair. But it's very fine hair. Like the individual strands are very fine and she, her hair is very soft. It's pin straight. There's not a curl or a kink to be found except for all of her cowlicks. And I just like struggle to get her to look and not again, she's beautiful. But like sometimes like I struggle to get her to look like polished enough, like for church. Like it's. She's just like always looking like a little disheveled, you know. And it's thing is because I was holding on to like her little whale spout Classic. We call it regular. Regular. That's how she says it.
Kelly
That's a name.
Liz
I was like, how do you want your hair? She goes regular.
Kelly
Oh, regular.
Liz
Yeah, regular. And that's just like a little pony on the side right here. And that's fine. But then I don't know, she's like, wasn't all that into it. So I found a new way to do her hair that's also. I don't always have time to do like a. I can. I'm a pretty good braider, but we don't always have the time for that either anyway. And you know, now she's like my big girl. Like now she's going to be five eventually in October. So we started doing the headband with the bow. A headband bow combo. I've ordered three off Amazon since our discovery of this. It's giving us everything we want. It's getting her hair out of her face. It's. There's no ponytail to be found. It's still a bow. She loves it. But the headband wasn't enough razzle dazzle for us. Now some head headbands probably have enough razzle dazzle. But the thing with headbands, it's like, like I have some of these darling headbands and I'm like, well, this doesn't go. Like, this headband is a crazy print in itself. Like it doesn't go with the dress at all.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So we ordered like regular gross grain wrapped headbands with a bow.
Kelly
Fabulous.
Liz
Yeah, that's all.
Kelly
Okay. Cute. Okay, well, that is our last three transactions where we share our recent bacon cost attractions.
Liz
Yes. We are gonna have to skip industry news today because I do have to make it to school pickup.
Kelly
Oh, okay.
Liz
Unless you want to like bring the industry news while I on your own and I can go.
Kelly
No. Well, do you want to ditch the drive through though?
Liz
Yeah, no, I want to be around for ditch the drive through. That's what I'm saying.
Kelly
Oh, okay. So we're just keeping. Okay, well, then now it's time for ditch to drive through, where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut.
Liz
Now here's what's on my. I'm giving. I'm giving everyone a whole three days worth of suppers.
Kelly
Oh.
Liz
Based on what I'm making. Okay. I'm doing flank steak this week. Very excited about it.
Kelly
Kind of a controversial recipe.
Liz
Is it?
Kelly
People don't like it the way we like it.
Liz
Well, they're wrong for that.
Kelly
There's been. There's been talks of people who don't like our flank stink recipe.
Liz
Okay, well, really? I thought it was so beloved.
Kelly
I mean, some people like. It's not. I'm just saying it's not for everyone. I think we have rose colored glass.
Liz
There's nothing. It's steak and steak sauce. Like, what's that? Where are we people?
Kelly
I don't know what to tell you. Some people aren't liking it. I love it. I could. I'm. A mouth is watering just thinking about it. Yeah.
Liz
And I'm doing it upright. I had. And you know what I'm trying to do? Oh, I'm still trying to clean out my pantry because guess what I still have in my freaking pantry.
Kelly
What?
Liz
Israeli couscous. I've been talking about this for months. Ambitious kitchen. I have a bone to pick with you because I'm so sick of looking at this. Anyway, I'm gonna do flying steak and Israeli excuse. Goose Chatgpt is saving me. It just. It's saving all of us.
Kelly
It's amazing.
Liz
So that's what I'm making. One day we are doing. I was gonna do a taco night, but I didn't have tortillas and I had chips. We're doing a nacho night, which I'm excited about.
Kelly
Okay. Love it.
Liz
I'm just using what I have, but instead of just like getting another thing, a tortilla, it's like, no, we're gonna finish this bag of chips because we're trying to, like, cycle through things this summer. I'm sorry, I'm all over the place. But this summer, I am going to become an ingredient household. I do not like to have snacks. Snacks? We never had snacks growing up. Yeah, I mean, you know, there's always something to eat. Like, I'm not saying let my kids go hungry, but like the pre packaged snacks, I'm not buying them this summer. I'm Just not if I don't buy them. Then it's not an issue if I buy them. It's a huge issue for everyone.
Kelly
Yeah. Hot take. But I'm here for it. We turn out fine.
Liz
Okay, I probably will have some for, like, on the. Okay, that's a lie. I'm honestly just lying to everyone right now. I will have some for on the go snacking.
Kelly
Well, you have to, like, for the.
Liz
Going to the park or to church or, like, to wherever. But, like, I just don't want to, like, have them all the time.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. So that was one supper. No, that was two suppers.
Kelly
Okay. Yeah, that's two.
Liz
And then for my final supper, we are making again. It's. It's a tale as old as time. We are making barbecue sweet potatoes.
Kelly
Yum.
Liz
Barbecue chicken. Sweet potatoes.
Kelly
Barbecue chicken in the crock pot is so good. It's so dang good. I love it.
Liz
The whole barbecue flavor profile. And my kids like barbecue, which is so exciting. Just such a good flavor profile. And I want to do it upright with some corn. I still need to go get corn, but I thought that'd be, like, a fun, like, taste of summer. Barbecue chicken. Sweet potatoes with some corn on the cob.
Kelly
Mm. Barbecue chicken and a crock pot is, like, a great thing to make for a party in the summer. Like, get some buns.
Liz
I know. I never think of it for a party. It's such a good idea.
Kelly
Never think of it for a party.
Liz
It's such a good idea.
Kelly
I'm thinking of it next week.
Liz
We are throwing Tyler, like, a 35th birthday party on with. For his side of the family at our house. Like, we just invited his siblings and his parents over, and I was like, what am I going to make these people? And I think I'm. I'm going to do something kind of crazy.
Kelly
What?
Liz
I'm going to do hibachi for 12. 12 people.
Kelly
Whoa. Yeah.
Liz
Plus kids.
Kelly
Now. Have you. How have you done hibachi before?
Liz
I've done hibachi three times.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I've done it for my family twice. And I've done it for. No, I've done it for my family, and I've done it for another couple twice. So, like, different couples, but I don't know for my family and for two other families.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
I learned a lot along the way. Yeah. Preps everything.
Kelly
Okay. That feels like you could. That feels like you need to, like, film some of that.
Liz
Well, I don't know if I can. No, I don't. Maybe if you come over and film me. I certainly can't handle anything else than just making the Hibach.
Kelly
Well, it feels like you could, like, set up a tripod.
Liz
But you know what the hack is?
Kelly
What?
Liz
You go to the Chinese restaurant, like, the local Chinese restaurant in your town, and you just order four containers of white rice. Because day old. Because day old rice works better for the fried rice.
Kelly
Okay, good to know.
Liz
And so maybe they won't give it to you day old, but you just get, like, the day before, stick it in your fridge.
Kelly
Oh, yeah, probably.
Liz
So you do that. You get the egg, you get the mixed veggies to make the fried rice.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
And then I wasn't do, like, veggies also. But I think if I do, I think I'm not going to do veggies also. And then. And I'm also not performing. I'm not doing a show.
Kelly
Yeah. Okay.
Liz
And then I think I'm gonna do steak and shrimp, because I feel like that's fancy. Like, I normally would just do chicken, but I feel like I should do steak and shrimp to be fancy. And then the key is Primal Kitchen's yum yum sauce.
Kelly
Oh, is it good? I saw at the store the other day, Elizabeth, some primal Kitchen I don't like.
Liz
Some Primal Kitchen is a little too primal. The yum sauce is excellent.
Kelly
Okay, good to know.
Liz
I had to source it through Thrive Market. Like I sourced it.
Kelly
Okay, good to know. I literally saw it at the store and I did not buy it because I was not sure. But, guys, that is going to be our episode.
