Welcome to the Carpool podcast with Kelly.
Liz
I finally learned, you know, seven years into marriage, I'm not having conversations unless I have. Unless I can have your undivided attention and you can have mine.
Kelly
And Liz, there was not a dry eye from the adults in the room. Everyone's crying. I'm crying, Kelly's crying, Mom's crying. Charlotte, our brother's girlfriend is sobbing in the corner. Your mom time off starts now.
Liz
Welcome back to the Carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. And I have a grunty baby with me. Do you have a grunty baby with you?
Kelly
At the moment she seems to be sleeping, but I don't think anyone is going to mind the baby, the baby noises. And if you do, it's not the podcast for you.
Liz
It's simply not.
Kelly
If you don't think the little baby grunts are precious, I think you have the wrong podcast.
Liz
Libby is such a loud child in every aspect. She's a loud sleeper, but she is the loudest eater. It is going to be so embarrassing when I'm in public. Like, and like you have a nursing cover on and it's like, hi, I just like my little sweet babies underneath me. And it sounds like someone's chowing down underneath my shirt. It's very strange.
Kelly
Libby, if you plan on eating during this podcast, you need to cut that out, because people do not like to hear slurping. They do not like to hear munching. They don't like to hear chewing. You will. You will get us absolutely canceled.
Liz
The review sections will be lit up.
Kelly
The review sections will be.
Liz
Anyway, I feel like I've only recording once a week is crazy because so much has happened and we're a little delayed because we're. Since we're only recording once a week, like, this isn't even going to go out to, like, a week from now. So I'll be such a different person by then. But just a couple of updates is I got a bucket calf. So see, speaking of things that slurp.
Kelly
Yeah. Speaking of being bottle fed.
Liz
Speaking of being bottle fed, we got a new bucket calf. Her name is Jada. For those of you city folks, here's how you get a bucket calf. Either the mom dies. The mom doesn't claim the baby. The mom isn't producing enough milk. And whenever those happen, cows have to be bottle fed. And they are called bucket calves or bottle calves.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
So Jade is an orphan, and now I am her mother.
Kelly
Oh, my gosh. Twins.
Liz
Twin in them.
Kelly
Mother of twins. Jade. Mother of multiples.
Liz
Mother of multiples. Jade is a Black Angus cow, so we're gonna raise her up because it's fun for the kids. We got her from Teller's parents farm, so once she's off the bottle, she will go back to Teller's parents farm and live a long, healthy life of having her own babies. And then eventually she will become dinner, but not for a very long time. But I just wanted to get that out there because people are having a lot of questions about what's to become. Jade is a beef cow, so she will have to become beef. But since she's a girly, she gets to live a long life and have a lot of babies first, and she'll be very happy. They have, like 400 acres. It's the vibe.
Kelly
It's the. It's the best. It's the best case scenario, really. And she's. And she's so cute, and the kids are, like, loving it. So it's really great. It's really great. Libby is. Libby is having her own.
Liz
Libby heard all this talk of a bottle, and she's like, hold on, I think I'm hungry.
Kelly
Yeah. Okay, so you got a bucket calf. That's a big update.
Liz
And I Update. I love my pigs. Like, I am such a pig mom now.
Kelly
No, I love your pigs, too. I saw them for the first time this weekend, and they are. They're hilarious.
Liz
They're so funny.
Kelly
They're like one of those animals that, like. You're not afraid. Well, I mean, they're not huge yet. Like, when pigs get really big, I probably will be less interested, but, like, they're at such a good size right now. We're like, you're not afraid to be in the pen with them? They're running around. They're like. To look at. Yeah.
Liz
I just love. It's so satisfying, Elizabeth, to take all your scraps and. And get.
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
And just. And repurpose them. Like, there's no food waste in the stumpy house. And then I. You know, I had a. You know when you buy that bag of spinach at the grocery store and you're like, oh, yeah, let that go bad again. The pigs don't mind little mold. The pigs are fine.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Nothing like, I'm not feeling them, like, disgusting food, but it's like, it's a.
Kelly
Little withered, but it's fine.
Liz
It's a little withered. It's a little slimy. It won't do for us. But, like, you should see what the pigs will eat. Anything.
Kelly
They're pigs. It's amazing.
Liz
It's amazing.
Kelly
It's got to feel so good.
Liz
No, it's so satisfying. And then, like, the pigs don't want it. Then the chickens go. Then the chickens go on the pig pen.
Kelly
Kelly, you just, like, became a farmer overnight. Like a homesteader overnight.
Liz
Well, you know, Tyler and I, we just can't say no. Well, mainly Tyler and I'm just. I'm chill enough to be okay with it.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And we always wanted this for our kids, and we waited so long. I mean, we were married seven years, and we lived in a neighborhood for seven years, so. And we've been dreaming of this for a long time. So bring on the animals.
Kelly
Bring them on. Okay, so you had that. You also had. Had his birthday party, which was a blast.
Liz
Hattie turned 4, and I was. You know, Hattie, I was having a little mom guilt because it just seems like we did so much for George. And then Hattie's just kind of like that middle child.
Kelly
You know, how do baby vibes, like, coming off Covid. Then, like, Fred. Now Libby. It's just. She's kind of gotten lost in the sauce.
Liz
She's never had, like, a big, big birthday. And I could have waited till 5. But I also wanted to. I knew I wanted to do this princess thing, and I didn't. I was worried because she's very mature. So I was worried that 5 would be too much or she'd be too old. Not that I don't think she would enjoy it, but I was like, I think this is our peak year. And I was dead on. First of all, I was correct for age, right?
Kelly
So I don't. I'm not sure you said it yet, but you got. You had Elsa and Anna come to her birthday party, and it was like, guys, there was not a dry eye from the adults in the room. Everyone's crying. I'm crying. Kelly's crying. Mom's crying. Charlotte, our brother's girlfriend, is sobbing in the corner. Dad had a tear in his eye. Like, I can't explain just seeing. And now I kind of understand why parents like to take their kids to Disney. Because I. We never went to Disney as kids, and it just looks like a miserable experience. But people always say, like, but when your kid gets to, you know, see the character, I get it now. I'm bought in. That's. It was magical.
Liz
The girls were amazing. Enchanted events in St. Louis. Shout out. I mean, I was blown away.
Kelly
They were incredibly talented. They were so cute. They had it down like they were. It was amazing. I loved it.
Liz
It felt like a good value, because here's the deal. I'll just tell you the price. I had 300 bucks in these princesses, okay? Which I know is expensive, but here's some things. One, I got two. You could have just gotten one. Two. They charged me an extra 60 bucks to drive all the way out to my house in the middle of nowhere.
Kelly
So there's the extra 60 bucks to drive in the middle of nowhere.
Liz
The fact that I had two.
Kelly
You paid for the hour, too. They had 30, 45 in 60 minutes. You paid for the 60.
Liz
So I'm just saying look into it, because you could be in and out of this thing for, like, 100, 120. You know, you gotta tip them and stuff. And they didn't just appear, the girls. They had a routine. We sang three songs, then we played games, then they read a story. Then they said they asked me ahead of time if they wanted to do the birthday cake while they were there. It's like, yeah, obviously. Elsa, I want you to sing Hattie Happy Birthday. Thank you for asking. Thank you for bringing that to the table. They were.
Kelly
They also had, like, little gifts for Hattie. They had this little, like, rose for her And a tiara. And, like, I mean, those things were probably like a dollar a piece, but, like, they had little things to. To. To get.
Liz
It wasn't just an appearance. It was the activity of the birthday party. It was so happy.
Kelly
The birthday party?
Liz
Yeah. I'm sorry we didn't, like, blow 60 bucks on a pinata or like, something else because all we needed was the girly pops. And it was the best day of her life. The only bummer is now she thinks I have their contact information. I can just make Elsa appear.
Kelly
Yeah, that's tough. Well, I mean, yeah, that's tough. You know, I'm just. She went back to Arendelle.
Liz
Yeah, I just kind of go with that. And I said this on my Instagram story, but the girls were such professionals. This. This killed me. My draw. How long do you think my driveway is? Like a fourth of a mile.
Kelly
It's maybe not a fourth. It's uphill. It's uphill and it's a long driveway.
Liz
It's a long driveway. And they parked on the street, and then they walked up my driveway. And I met them out there because I see these, you know, these characters walking up my driveway, and I was like, oh, did you guys get dropped off or like. Like, no, we just. We parked down there. And I'm like, well, you didn't have to do that. Like, you know, you can. You can park up at the house. They go, we like to keep the magic alive. It doesn't really help, like, if the kids see us get out of a regular car. So these girls straight up look like they appeared and disappeared out of nowhere. They, like, leave my driveway, turn the corner, and it's like, oh, the Sven picked them up.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
It was insane. It was insane.
Kelly
It was amazing. And I just think four is the perfect age to do it because you can always do it again for five if they're still into it. But, like, I'm jotting that down. Sloan and Libby's dual birthday party at 4 years old, they're going to have a princess there.
Liz
It was so fun. So.
Kelly
It was so fun.
Liz
And I, you know, I. It was kind of stressful because I feel like also when you have a four year old birthday party, you know, you wanted. I wanted to invite other kids. I'm not a very, like, big birthday party kind of person. No, I'm very much like, we're inviting our family. I don't really. I'm not ready to do all the friends and stuff, but since I was gonna have these princesses, I invited A lot of people who live around us come who have little girls. So the food got me a little overwhelmed because next thing you know, I have 45 people and I'm trying to. And I have to do food. So I did three pork butts, super affordable in the crocky pot. Like, I started on a Friday. I just did one a day, shredded it, put it in the fridge, and then put them all together and warmed them up. I made two things of cheesy potatoes. Mom made green beans. My mother in law made some hot dogs. And I was still nervous because I was like, I don't think this is enough food. Pulled a big ziti out. Pulled a baked ziti out.
Kelly
Yeah, it was.
Liz
People loved it. People loved it. So the food was good.
Kelly
The food was great. Um, it was a really good time. My weekend was a lot to handle. I had my first solo parenting full weekend of two. So Maddie was at drill this past weekend, and he had to leave on a Thursday night, and he didn't come back until Sunday after Hattie's birthday party. So it was a very long weekend. And I've been having a lot of mom guilt about sending James to daycare while I'm on maternity leave, because it's like, well, you know, I'm just at home. I should just be able to hang out with him. But also, it's like, I'm paying for the daycare.
Liz
I hold your spot.
Kelly
Yeah, you got to pay for it. So. And then also I, you know, I'm trying to spend time with Sloan because when I'm with James, it's hard for me to, like, give Sloan everything that she needs because I. It's very easy to be like, okay, you're chill right now. You can go lay down. You don't need to be held. You don't need to do the. You know, so I'm just. I'm trying to balance it all. So all that to be said to balance my mom guilt, I did not have him in daycare on Friday. So I had both of them, like, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, also Monday, because daycare was closed on Monday. And, like, the days were stressful and hard and ultimately, more than anything, boring. A little boring. You know, you're not talking to an adult and you're just chasing a toddler around, but the night time, oh, my gosh. So hard.
Liz
Like, like the bedtime routine.
Kelly
The bedtime routine. And James is just at an age where he needs a bath every night because we play outside. He. It's disgusting. And he just needs a bath.
Liz
20 minutes. And it burns.
Kelly
And it burns. 20 minutes. So it's the first of all, like, getting them both upstairs is difficult. It's a chore. He hates it when I leave the room. So it's not like I can take her up and he'll be like, okay for a second. It's like they have to do everything together. And it was very hard. And the night team routine was very hard. And mom actually helped me the first night. And then I was like, mom, what do I. How do, how do I do this? Like, what am I supposed to do tomorrow night when I don't have anyone else here? And she was like, put them both in bed with you, feed her, read him a book until he falls asleep, Put him in his crib. And like, so that's what I did. And it worked out. It worked out wonderfully. And it was kind of sweet actually, but wow. It was just like very. It was very real. It was, it was very real.
Liz
You did a really hard thing.
Kelly
Think it's.
Liz
I mean, you have two under two and you were by yourself and you're what, three and a half weeks pp. Like, I would say you did a really hard thing and you did it for multiple nights in a row and multiple days in a row. And it is not easy. And the boredom is hard and the overstimulation and the stress and you got through it. And I'm really proud of you. And I just hate that I couldn't do more for you. Um, I would have just added fuel to the fire.
Kelly
Well, you did. I did go to your house on Friday to, like, allow us to get out. And like, that was, that was nice. But I was just telling mom, I'm like, mom, I can't believe you raised five kids. Like, I cannot believe you're a stay at home mom for five kids. And honestly, she was like, I don't know how I did it either. She's kind of been trauma dumping a lot lately as we like begin to see her more.
Liz
And she's seen mom, she's seen us go through it.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And she remembered.
Kelly
And I was like, I just wanna thank you and hope you feel very. Seen that like years later from 30 years later from what you went through, I hope you feel seen. And she's like, honestly, I do. So thank you. But it's just, it's hard.
Liz
It's really hard, babe.
Kelly
It's really hard. But it's okay.
Liz
I don't have anything to say. I'm very much in the nights, give me anxiety. The evenings Give me anxiety right now.
Kelly
Literally, I was telling Maddie I was like, my favorite times of the day used to be morning and, like, going to bed. And, like, now they're my least favorite times of the day. I actually don't have a favorite time of the day. I'm just kind of, like, surviving through the day.
Liz
Well, let's try to find a positive note, because everyone who's feeling what we're feeling probably doesn't. I mean, I'm sure they appreciate the solidarity, but they're like, hey, I kind of tuned in to, like, take my mind off of this. So let's get into some dumps.
Kelly
Yes. Let's do our dumpity doo dahs.
Liz
Oh, speaking of dumps. Dumpity doo dahs. I have a marriage tip.
Kelly
Oh, okay.
Liz
So one thing, as you guys know, I like to do a brain dump. I mean, we have a whole podcast segment called Our Dump where we just literally say what's been on our mind. And Tyler and I are very much in the phase of our life where I finally learned, you know, seven years into marriage, I'm not having conversations unless I have. Unless I can have your undivided attention and you can have mine. Because nothing starts like a bigger, like, bicker or like a, you know, then trying to tell you about my day when we have four children. Like, I'm just. I'm not even trying. I'm not even attempting it.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And our new joke is like, I can't wait to tell you about my 30s when we're 50. Like, I can't wait to tell you about how my 30s were. Literally, you were there, but you weren't.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So we started this thing and we just do a three minute dump. So we. And we have. It's become part of our routine. And it took him a couple days to get into it, but now last night, he's like, are you ready for our dumps? And we set the timer for three minutes. And even if you think you have nothing to say, the rule is you just blabble for three minutes and the other person is not allowed to say anything. Then after, they can, like, they can tell you, like, you know, what their thoughts were. Like, sometimes Tyler, like, writes down, like, things he wants to or, like, you know, topics he wants to say while I'm. While I'm dumping. And I simply start with, like, I woke up. I've been really into my Nescafe coffee. I'm just, like, so excited about it. And, like, your mind just starts to go. And, like, it's so therapeutic. To get it all out there and then to tell the person who you want to tell your day about, you know what it is. So last night, he was so generous. He gave me four minutes.
Kelly
Well, you had a lot to say.
Liz
I had a lot to say. Uh, he has trouble filling his three minutes sometimes because, you know, I just don't think he has his. His mind doesn't work quite like mine, but it's a 10 out of 10. I recommend you try it.
Kelly
I love that. So you just like, time for your. Like you have your own deputy doo dot at home with your husband. Maddie and I have been doing something similar where instead of, like, texting throughout the day, like something we have been like, once James is down and we just have Sloan, we have been kind of covering the things we want to cover. But what we do is a lot of the time I might be, like, reviewing an email or, like, looking at something on our phones. So we just screen share it to our tv and we, like, go through all the things that we need to go through. Kind of like a PowerPoint. Like, it's like. It's like a meeting, you know.
Liz
That's so fun. Like, you just airplay it to your tv.
Kelly
Yeah, airplay it to your tv.
Liz
That's so fun.
Kelly
That's also. That's also a good life hack for if you're moving or wanting to move. That is how we looked at homes together was just Airplane at night once James went to bed. It was really nice.
Liz
Well, that's like, so tech. I wouldn't even know how to do that.
Kelly
Yeah, I think I've tried Airplane on your tv. It didn't work.
Liz
Shout out to the three minute dumps. I recommend.
Kelly
Okay. I love that. Do you? I do. I kind of want to go back with the imper. Like the. The Disney princesses and just like, impersonators in general. I think we've kind of covered this, but I have seen a lot of reels lately of, like, Taylor Swift impersonators. Like, not just showing up at an event, like a birthday party. No. Like, they host concerts and you can go see a Taylor Swift impersonator do a concert at like, a park or an amphitheater or something. And I just. Outside of Elvis, I really can't think of another star that has impersonators and she's alive. And they literally do the entire eras tour. And I just like. I just think it's very interesting because she now. She has such an iconic look from this eras tour. It's like put on the bedazzled jumper with the tall boots and the blonde wig and it's like, yeah, obviously you're Taylor Swift. And I just really think that there's no one else that you can say that for. And it's really interesting to me.
Liz
I think it's. It's like a step above a cover band. Cause there's several cover bands and people who play. But then it's dressing like her. You're saying it's the dressing.
Kelly
Yeah, it's the dressing and it's the putting. It's like copying her ERAS tour routines, copying her dance moves and like putting on a faux ERAS tour.
Liz
So does it bother you or you just saying, like, you would never want to watch it?
Kelly
No, I'm not saying either one of those things. I'm just saying that's incredible. You're just like, that's her reach. I'm just, I just saw this. I'm like, you don't see this outside of maybe an Elvis impersonator. And that's really all I. That's really all I wanted to note. That's her reach. It's. It's incredible. And I'm not a Taylor. I'm not a Taylor fan. I'm not a Taylor hater, but I'm not a Taylor fan. I'm indifferent, neutral. I'm. I have respect totally for that. For the grind, for the reach. So I just wanted to say that.
Liz
Well, speaking of dressing up as things, do you want to hear my kids Halloween costumes?
Kelly
They do.
Liz
George wants to be this guy from YouTube. Like, George already wants to be a YouTuber at 5 years old, but he's obsessed with this guy named Chandler's wildlife. And this guy just has a bunch of poisonous snakes and he. I only let him watch him. The guy does a good job, like not cussing or saying anything bad in his videos. They're really just about snakes. So George. But he always wears a cut off T shirt. Like a cut off shirt.
Kelly
Like cut off the sleeves?
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Oh.
Liz
Which I don't know what we're gonna do because it's probably gonna be cold, but some sort of like shorts and a T shirt. And then I'm gonna make. He's gonna. Either we tried to make a snake out of paper, like a really big like boa constrictor looking snake. And then this guy always has this snake hook that he like kind of uses to maneuver his snakes around. So it's going to be chaos. But that's what George wants to be. I asked Hattie, hoping she'd be like Elsa. I'D be like, perfect. We have four costumes downstairs. She came up with a rainbow skeleton. Okay. Not sure where she came up with that. And then, you know, I looked up a rainbow skeleton and I'm like, something like this. And she's. It's the ugliest costume in the world. I've said this before. Heidi has no tast. It's just she will pick out the most. She doesn't have no taste. She has the taste of a four year old. Like, she will pick out the most obnoxious thing possible. You know what I mean?
Kelly
Yeah. It's like, do you want this cute kitten stuffed animal? No, I want the rainbow sloth with troll hair and giant eyes that has a sparkly tongue. Like, she just wants the most outrageous thing.
Liz
So she's being that Fred and Libby. I wanted Fred to be Fred Flintstone, but I think I'll do that next year and maybe I'll make Libby like another one of the characters. But anyway, I wanted Libby to be Libby's canned foods. So Libby is going to be Libby's canned corn and Fred's going to be corn.
Kelly
I love it.
Liz
Yeah, I'm pretty.
Kelly
I don't know if I'm going to dress my kids up.
Liz
I think that's fine. I can look through my costume and see if I have.
Kelly
No, I was gifted, like a skeleton onesie that I'll put Sloan in. And then James, I'm like, I don't know. I just feel like he'll be annoyed to wear anything. Totally.
Liz
You know, don't rush into Halloween. And I'm, you know, this. I'm not a Hollow. I'm not really a adult dressing up kind of person. I know that makes me a super lame, lame o.
Kelly
But yeah, I don't know, I'm kind.
Liz
Of ready for Halloween to pass and like Thanksgiving, Christmas to get here.
Kelly
I'm really excited for Christmas. I'm not even pulling out my fall decor. My house still just like, is not fully put together from moving and so I just like, don't want to have more stuff out.
Liz
Lipstick on a pin.
Kelly
Christmas. I'm very excited. I'm excited for the decor and all the things. I'm just kind of like ready for it.
Liz
And speaking of Christmas, did you see what I did on my Instagram story recently where I just really got my life together and like, I'm coordinating my kids outfits. You talked about this on the last podcast.
Kelly
Yeah, okay.
Liz
But I was just, I was revisiting them and I've placed some new orders and I think It's a really good hack.
Kelly
Well, I liked how you laid them all out to see them all. I thought that that was very helpful.
Liz
Well, and then I took a picture, and you know what else I did? I put them away together. Next level.
Kelly
You're so on it, Kel. I have a lot of respect for you. You know, you're on it this year.
Liz
I'm four chitlins into this. Oh. Oh, she just threw up all over me.
Kelly

Kelly
Gene's here with the latest.
Liz
Gene, do you copy? The home with Duncan is where you want to be. Wooliz, are you ready for industry news?
Kelly
Yeah. Where you spill the hot tea going on in the auto industry.
Liz
Okay, well, first things first. Nurse Shan, our traveling correspondent for the car mom, went to the Nissan Murano event.
Kelly
Traveling correspondent?
Liz
Yeah, that's what her Instagram bio says. So good for her.
Kelly
Oh, I love it.
Liz
She came up with it.
Kelly
Love a girl who just comes up with a title for herself.
Liz
If I haven't talked about Nurse Shan enough on the podcast, she is, I think I talked about on my Instagram. But Nurse Shan and I have been friends for a while. She randomly emailed me before the first auto show asking if she could volunteer. And I was like, yeah. She's like, I want to come. I'm coming alone, though, so I'd love to have a job. Like what? I love a girl who shoots her shot.
Kelly
She says, I'm coming from New York and I'm coming alone, so if you need any help, let me know.
Liz
And we're like, sure, we'll take your help. And she's a workhorse is what Nurse Shan's is. So she worked so hard.
Kelly
Well, we didn't know. The auto show is always chaos. And what we didn't know when we were like, yeah, come and help and volunteer. Is that. She is. She was at the time an ER nurse. So, like, she's used to the chaos. She's used to, like just being like, go here, do this, do that. She's just, she thrives in it, really.
Liz
She thrives. So then we like Kept in touch, and she was so helpful that I'm like, you're on the auto show committee. Like, I can never have an auto show without Nurse Shan. So then every auto show since, she's flown to St. Louis, she's brought her husband, and she's just been great. She wanted to get out of her, like, traditional nursing job because the. She was just kind of over. She's been an ER nurse for so long. She's got two kids. So she was asking. She's like, is there anything I can do for the car room? And I'm like, you know what? I hate to travel. You love to travel. I certainly am not going to be travel. I certainly am not going to be traveling on maternity leave. But we get invited to all of these events that I just don't go, that no one goes to. And, you know, they're free trips. Like, they're. They're willing to pay for the trip if you want to go and just capture some content for us. So it's worked out so well because I've always, like. I mean, one of my favorite parts about the car mom is the fact that we're able to employ so many moms to do stuff for us and just to work, like, fun jobs and flexible schedules. And so I'm always passionate about growing our team any way that we can. And so, anyway, she's going all over the place. And the maternity leave timing just really lined up because it was the perfect time for us to tell these companies, like, hey, Kelly can't come. She's on maternity leave. Here's Nurse Shan. And hopefully we can show to them that we're still able to bring really good content. And I will obviously still go to some, but it's just nice to have somebody else.
Kelly
It's nice that we can have a presence there without you or I having to be there when we just. When we have to say no. I mean, we have the same schedule. We both just had babies. Yeah, she creates really good content, and she wants to do it. And it's.
Liz
It's perfect. It's great. It's all great.
Kelly
So she went to the Kia carnal event, and this past week, she went to the 2025 Nissan Murano redesign event.
Liz
And I was excited for the Murano and that that's an event that I for sure would have said no to because it's just. It's a smaller car. Like, I just probably wouldn't have prioritized it. But since I had Nurse Shannon, I'm like, you should go to this because this car hasn't been redesigned in a decade. And I actually love the Murano I drove. It was my second mom car. So I started.
Kelly
Really?
Liz
Yeah. I started in a Rogue with. And I brought George home and then I switched to a Murano when I just had one kid. Yeah. A little bit bigger than the Rogue. But Elizabeth and I had been driving Nissans for years. Like we love them. We had, we've had several Murano demos throughout our life.
Kelly
Obviously the Pathfinder is my favorite car, so.
Liz
And since the Ford Edge went away, I was like, I think this new Murano could be my new Ford Edge because it's a big five passenger car that if they do the redesign correctly, it'll be a good three across bench like the Ford Edge is Slash was. Now, I haven't installed three car seats in it, but based on the photos, I'm very optimistic about the bench. It looks wide. There's no seatbelt overlap. The headrests don't look offensive. I mean they don't remove, which is weird. But they look pretty flush. So I'm feeling really good about this kind of being that niche of, hey, I need three car seats but I don't want a three row suv. What do you recommend? The list is kind of small because the, the RAV4, the CRV, the rogue, those are all smaller. So the fact that we have this like bigger 5 passenger car that was the Ford Edge. I don't know, I'm, I'm feeling, I'm feeling excited about her. I don't like the exterior. I'm just going to get that out of the way right away. Right away.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And here's my problem. Like Nissan had good, good exteriors. The Rogue and the Pathfinder look like little Range Rovers. Like they're cute, they're fun, they've got good lines, they're more boxy. Then they come out with this rounded Murano. I don't really get it. I don't like the horizontal stripes. Fashion 101 don't put horizontal stripes on things. It makes it look wide. It's like, looks like it's just very wide. I don't like the exterior. I think it's. It looks like the Mazda CX9, which, which I don't really love. I don't know, I, maybe I'll change my mind because, you know, I said the same thing about the Palisade and now I love the Palisade, but I'm not obsessed and I don't think it looks cohesive with the rest of the Nissan lineup I think was like my biggest shock. Like I would have never guessed that was a Nissan Murano.
Kelly
No. And it feels like it's doing the exact same thing that Hyundai did with the Santa Fe, only on the total opposite end of the spectrum where hundred Santa Fe is this box and this is this rounded moment and neither one of them look like anything else that they have in their lineup. Yeah, yeah. I don't know. I'm not, I'm not that excited. I'm not that excited about it but I am excited. It's not my style of exterior. No.
Liz
But the interior looks amazing. I already said I love the bench. They added sunshade so it's giving family friendly a two toned interior that will leave your jaw dropping like in a.
Kelly
Really cool way in a very unique way. I really, really liked the interior. I want to see if they have two toned. So the two tone that you posted is like a cream and a tan and it looks really nice. I'd be very curious to see what their two tone moment is for like a dark interior.
Liz
Mm. Yeah.
Kelly
I don't know if they'll have one or just what that could look like because this just. This looks really nice.
Liz
And they added some. So they also ditched the CVT transmission which like if you've ever heard anyone complain about Nissan it's because they hate the CVT which I'm not really going to get into like the mechanics of it cause I only semi understand it. But it just the car shifts a lot differently than like your standard automatic transmissions. So they ditched that gave us a four cylinder which like everyone's doing. Hopefully it's not underpowered. We haven't driven it yet. And they added some fun tech. So you have heads up display.
Kelly
Hey.
Liz
Oh you have massaging seats available on the platinum.
Kelly
Cool.
Liz
And get this 64 way ambient lighting. 64 color.
Kelly
That seems like too many. That seems like you don't need that many colors. But okay.
Liz
Yeah. So yeah.
Kelly
So the, the updates.
Liz
No hybrid. Disappointing.
Kelly
Yeah, the, the updates are exciting. I'm happy that they upgraded it and may maybe there's something that we're just not seeing in the exterior. I don't know.
Liz
I want to hear what everyone else.
Kelly
Says and it's not terrible. It's not terrible. It's just not exciting to me.
Liz
And I think that's the thing. It's just, it's not as crazy as the Santa Fe and it's not as good looking as the Pathfinder. So I just don't really it's just meh.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And it's like, I don't know. Okay, the next story is crazy. Oh, first of all, Jesse from Mormon Wives. Did you see my investigative journalism?
Kelly
Yes.
Liz
She drives a Rivian, too.
Kelly
So that's interesting. That's the first overlap that we have on vehicles is the Rivian. So two out of the. However many housewives or Mormon wives there are, two out of two out of them drive a Rivian.
Liz
Yeah, it's interesting.
Kelly
Interesting.
Liz
Wouldn't have guessed. Okay, next story. This is insane. Ford patents in car system that eavesdrop so it can play your ads. Now, this headline is a little gotcha. Not. What's the word? Like clickbait journalism. But Ford patented a system that, per the filing, would use several different sources of information to customize ad content to play in your car. One such information stream that is hypothetical system would. Sorry, it would determine what sort of ads to serve you and could be the voice that. And could be. Sorry.
Kelly
What are you good?
Liz
Basically, it's going to, like, use your data to decide what ads to serve you, and it will also be able to identify your voice and recognize you and your ad preferences and those of your passengers. Finally, it could listen to your conversations and determine if it's better to serve you a visual ad while you're talking or an audio ad when there's a lull in the conversation. Now, a patent filing doesn't mean that it's going to happen. It means that they just filed the patent.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And those are public. So that's why this kind of stuff always comes out. Like, if you remember, Ford also had this technology where they could, like, repo a car that wasn't being paid on. I don't think they're ever going to do that, but they just, you know, they're trying to get ahead of the curve.
Kelly
So they said that given how consumers feel about the advertising and in car privacy, it's difficult to imagine an implementation of the system that wouldn't generate blowback. But again, the patent isn't describing something in some imminent implementation. It just protects Ford's IP that describes a possible system. So, like you said, I don't understand how this would be implemented in the sense of, like, what. Where are my ads coming from? I don't. I listen to Spotify in my car or the radio. Like, Ford isn't giving me ads. So I don't know if maybe they're working on, like, a new infotainment system where they could have an option to implement ads. I just don't really?
Liz
Yeah. Because if you're using like a streamer or like one of your streamers, then how is Ford gonna override that? I agree. I don't know. We'll see what happens. But as long as it's not like, hey, I want to turn on my heated seat. Or we could turn on your heated seat.
Kelly
What if. Listen to this ad. Listen to this 30 second AD.
Liz
Or you can sign up for our subscription to get it for ad free.
Kelly
Oh my gosh.
Liz
Like, is that just where we're going?
Kelly
I just wonder.
Liz
I just wonder. Okay, next thing I wanted to chat to you about and this is all over the news. Have we seen the Tesla, The Tesla vehicles?
Kelly
What do you mean?
Liz
Okay, Tesla unveils a RoboBo van. A 20 seat autonomous passenger slash cargo van. And if you like don't think this is going to come to fruition, I would have said the same thing about the cybertruck. And you just. Those are just driving around on the road, which is crazy to me. Tesla held. It's a robo taxi event tonight. This was a couple. This was October 10th that introduced a whole new vehicle that will function exclusively as a driverless vehicle. It is a 20 person mass transit. Or it can haul things. Like, it's like a cargo van. The Wii robot event was primarily expected to focus on two, the upcoming two seat robo taxi, which it did. And they also unveiled this robo van. You can look at the interior pictures. I mean, it's just giving like.
Kelly
It actually looks pretty cool.
Liz
No, I think it looks super cool. I don't know. We'll see. We'll see. I just don't care. I just feel like these things are. They're cool, they're clickbait. I'm not saying it's not going to happen. It just feels like it's going to be so long before this comes across my desk in like a real tangible way.
Kelly
Yeah. This is kind of funny. The article, one of the article I'm seeing ends with Elon mentions it's called R. Rabovan. Like suburban, but Rabovan.
Liz
Suburban. Robovan Rabovan.
Kelly
Okay, interesting.
Liz
I mean, elon's got like 100 kids, so I mean, he's got to be a guy who kind of gets it. Give us a Tesla minivan. Like a real. In a real sense.
Kelly
I know that's what, that's what they need to do. I'm kind of surprised he hasn't gone there yet. I mean, someone. The minivan market is dying for it. Just like the Innovate the innovation that is there, obviously, people who obviously, we don't care that much about the exterior of a minivan. So, like, just design the car that is just built for all the functionality for a family and, like, own the market.
Liz
You know, hire us as a consultant. Yeah, you'd be amazed where it goes. Okay, well, Liz, that wraps up industry news. Do you want to get onto our DTDs?
Kelly
I do want to get onto our DTDs and dishes. Drive Thru is where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut. And there's a couple things that I just want to talk about surrounding food and just a whole segment on food. We have been, you and I both have kind of been on a journey with our food, trying to eat more meat, trying to cut out the dyes, the chemicals, the stuff than our food that just isn't great for us. And I wanted to shout out this app that I've been using that's really been helping me on this journey. And it's called uka. It's Y U K A. And it's an app that you scan the barcode and then it gives it a score of zero to a hundred on, like, how clean and good the product is. And so it will, like, shout out a lot of chemicals, dyes, and it'll be like, this is a. This can be a hazardous chemical. This can be a hazardous dye that's in your food. Or might say, like, yeah, it has this additive, but it's like a limited risk. Or it might be like, hey, this is way too much sodium in it, or whatever. So it's kind of like, up to your interpretation on what you're comfortable with. So if they're like, hey, this. I get scanned sausage the other day, and it was like, got a bad score because it was, like, high in sodium and fat. And I'm like, well, I'm not really trying to avoid sodium or fat. I'm more looking for these, like, additives because you get sent all these Instagrams or all these TikToks that say, like, oh, don't you know, MSG, GMO, glyphosate, like, all of this stuff, all these buzzwords, all these buzzwords. I'm like, I don't know what any of it is. So this just kind of, like, helps me see what's in it, see what additives are in it. I can read about the additives and then I can be like, okay, you know what? This is something I'm not worried about or okay, this is something that I don't want to put in my body. And it's just like a very, very good place to start. So Maddie and I kind of started scanning everything or a lot of the stuff that we eat regularly. And we're not just throwing food away. Like, we are going to, okay, something didn't score great, we are going to eat it. And then when it's gone, we're just not going to rebuy it and we're just going to like, slowly fill our fridge and our pantry with stuff that is better has less stuff in it.
Liz
Yeah. So I'm going to. My journey, I would say, is similar yet different. I haven't downloaded the app yet. I probably should, but I'm also. I'm kind of with you. I'm so exhausted by like the reading the back of these labels things. I just can't. I can't do this. And recently we've gone gluten and dairy free for Fred because Fred's eczema is out of control. It was out of control. And I am not a very disciplined or consistent person. So, like, this was felt very daunting for me to do this restrictive of a diet. And what we've. What I've kind of just been focusing on is we are just eating a lot of meat. Like, I know, like, the carnivore diet is kind of trending. Like, let me be clear. We are not doing any sort of like carnivore diet type stuff. Like, I'm not doing that, but I am just putting like a bigger emphasis on eating meat, I guess, because, like, that's a very safe food for Fred. And if I'm gonna make it for. I'm not making multiple dinners. So we're just all. We're all eating this way, which I think is kind of gonna be a good thing long term. But it's just been. I find that specifically like beef and pork is so satisfying. Like, it's a very. It's not. It leaves you feeling. What's the word, Elizabeth, that I like? Satiated.
Kelly
Satiated.
Liz
It leaves you feeling very satiate. That's such a weird word. Satiated. Yeah. And I. It's made me realize how much I've been overthinking previous meals. So, like, for example, tonight for dinner, I pulled off some ground beef burgers, like burger patties from our deep freeze and we're having burgers. And I don't know what we'll have. I don't know if we'll have. We might just have burgers. We might have some sweet potatoes. If I have a vegetable, I'm going to cook it up. But it's just kind of putting emphasis on, like, we're going to be eating the meat. And I've gotten blood work done before. Gotten blood work done pretty recently, actually. And the things I'm low in are iron. Like, I'm anemic because I was just pregnant and now I'm nursing, so I always get anemic. And B vitamins. Well, you know what's really high in iron and B vitamins? Red meat. So it's also like, I kind of need that almost more than I need some of, like, the other, like, things that I was eating that I thought were healthier. And I've just kind of been focusing on that. And really, like, my dinners are just so simple right now.
Kelly
I literally. My dinner the other night, I didn't even put it on a plate. I ate it off a cutting board. I had a strip steak, which James needed me, and I was nursing Sloan at the same time. So I just stuck a fork into it and, like, bit off of it. Didn't even cut it up. And then, like, blueberries, and like, that was my meal. And there was something very freeing about just being like, this is okay that this is your meal. You don't need a carb of veggie and a meat that's, you know, the size of your fist. Like, you. If that's how you want to eat, like, eat like that. But it's just like, there were so many rules and, like, you have to make sure that you have all these things. And it's like, maybe it's okay to just have a piece of meat and like, some fruit on the side.
Liz
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and if that's so much easier than preparing a meal with all of these sides and if I can, like, fry up some burgers for my family versus, like, I don't feel like cooking tonight. Like, let's just go to the drive thru. Well, what's really the healthier option? You know what I'm saying? So anyway, that's just kind of our dish. The drive thru is maybe just like, don't. Don't stress about it too much.
Kelly
Don't. Oh, don't to have everything.
Liz
I also made lentils for the first time because lentils are G free.
Kelly
Okay. How we, like, go.
Liz
We like, we like. So shout out, shout out lentils.
Kelly
Oh, you know what? Something else that I've been eating and, like, I really, really wanted a snack at like, 3:00. And I was like, if I just eat this, like, granola bar, I'm going to be hungry in 15 minutes. So I just made myself like a little mini charcuterie plate. Had grapes, I had cheese, and I had sausage. And like a. It was way more delicious than a granola bar. And it kept me full longer. And I think that's just what we're trying to like, get at is just like being satisfied and not constantly coming back to that hunger and I don't know, just trying to doing what we can to avoid the things. Because meat does feel very safe in the sense of. Because then there's like all the pesticides that are on the fruit and the vegetables. Like, you just, you can't win. And I'm so overwhelmed by it all. So I'm kind of like pedaling backwards and just like kind of starting where I can and seeing how I want to move forward.
Liz
So anyway, I'm sure people have different opinions and I'm good with it. I don't know, it's just what's working for us. But speaking of food and stuff, do you follow this girl called the food babe?
Kelly
No.
Liz
Okay. She has been coming across my desk and the food babe, I don't know much about her other than she is trying to get Kellogg's. She's trying to cancel Kellogg's. And it's so interesting because Kellogg's Froot Loops are like one of the top selling cereals in America. It's an estimate. They estimate that in the last 30 days, 20% of all American children have had Froot Loops. Like, everyone's eating Froot Loops.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
Our Froot Loops in America are riddled with artificial dyes, like four different artificial dyes. And this other chemical that they're upset about, I don't remember what it is. Something with a DFT or something like that. Btf, I don't know, something like that. And she compares what Froot Loops, the ingredients, and Fruit Loops in America versus all the other countries. And none of the other countries have artificial dyes. And it's an American company.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So she got like 400,000 signatures. And on October 15, they all went to Battle Creek, Michigan, where Kellogg's headquarters. Kellogg's headquarters is. And they like, did a march.
Kelly
I saw this. I saw it. I saw someone comparing them to the Canadian version and the Canadian version. Like, they're. They don' similar, but it's like they're making these in this, the same factory.
Liz
It's the same company. It's Kellogg's it's Kellogg's.
Kelly
It's the same company. They're making them in sometimes the same factory. And they are choosing to put artificial dyes which more and more studies are coming out of, like the harm of the dyes and they're putting their Zoli in the American ones. It's spooky.
Liz
So hopefully they take them out because there's also, there's other solutions because I'm eating I now that I've like been looking at the labels for dyes. They can use other things. It's not like they can't make a red cereal or a blue loop. Trader Joe's.
Kelly
Trader Joe's doesn't use dyes like in their candidates shout out Trader Joe's and all. Well, they're owned by the same company, so it's doable. They're doing it in other countries.
Liz
So anyway, things that make you go, hmm, hmm. Well, Liz, that was kind of a chaotic episode.
Kelly
I don't think so. I think it was just like kind of on par, kind of like well rounded, kind of like hit like all the bases. So thank you so much for listening to the Carpool podcast. We hope you enjoyed and we'll talk to you next week.
