Welcome to the Carpool podcast with Kelly.
Liz
This could go one of two ways. This could be my viral moment, like, propel me forward, like, get millions of views. Or this could be the start to.
Kelly
The end for me and Liz. I told mom, I said, mom, do you want to hear a diss track? We might, like, make a video about it. She goes, can Kelly rap? I'm like, what? First of all, why are you only worried about if Kelly can rap? Your mom. Time off starts now.
Liz
Welcome back to the Carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz.
Kelly
Kelly. Kelly's so rudely drinking a clean, simple eats energy drink right in front of me. I'm out. Might have been ordered. They just haven't been delivered. I think I have a problem. I think I might have an addiction to the clean, simple le energy drinks.
Liz
Listen, listen. We will never steer you wrong. Like, everyone came around to the built puff bars, and everyone's saying that they're just as good as we all thought. And I like, how lucky are we to be alive? To quote Stephanie, like, how lucky are we to be alive in the same time as built puff bars? We're so lucky in the same sense. Clean simple is energy. Energy plus focus drinks. They're incredible.
Kelly
They're so good. They. And I'm an energy drink girl. I love energy drinks. I have not grabbed. And I kind of stopped drinking energy drinks for a while because it was so much caffeine. But the. And like, the Celsius. Celsius of it all, like, girls giving, like, heart issues. Anyway, Clean supplies only has a hundred milligrams. 200 and I think Celsius. How many. How many milligrams of caffeine is in, like, a celsius?
Liz
Celsius is 200. And I'm telling you, that'll make your heart palpitate.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Especially if you had, like, a coffee earlier in the day. I don't need. And then I wouldn't be able to sleep. I don't need 200 milligrams. I need a hundred in the afternoon every once in a while. And the clean, simple energy drinks, guys, they are. There's. I'm telling you, there's not cans with a hundred. We didn't have one one day, and I tried to. We went to Quick Trip, and I was trying to, like, find one, and they were all 200.
Kelly
And I don't know what is in it. That makes me focus, but, like, the focus so good. Okay, wait, Kelly, this is crazy. I just looked up how many. How much caffeine is in a Celsius. They typically contain 200mg caffeine. With some varieties like Celsius Essentials and celsius heat containing 270 to 300.
Liz
I will.
Kelly
That would.
Liz
That would kill me. I'm not being. Not even being dramatic. I don't know how people are drinking those. No Quinton bleed ones. They also. They do they have a focus? I don't know. It's energy plus focus. What is the focus? Mental clarity. Oh, I can't pronounce any of these words. Not that anyone thought I'd be able to. I'm telling you, though, it'll. You're right in focus.
Kelly
Yeah. You feel like you, like popped natural or something sometimes.
Liz
Anyway, I think they actually are a sponsor. Today's app. This is not an ad. I think we have an ad for them on today's episode.
Kelly
Stay tuned.
Liz
And we just can't say enough about. Now. Hold on. Let me tell you. Flavors.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
Yeah, all the flavors are good. Like, you won't order a bad flavor of that.
Kelly
No, I think you should do the variety pack. I. I order multiples a month if I. I do get burnt out on certain flavors. So I need to mix it up. Like, right now, I'm not into watermelon. I'm really into orange swirl. But, like, there will be a day where, like, I don't want to corn swirl and I only want to drink lava.
Liz
And you'll ebb and flow.
Kelly
You haven't flow. But you, you. You do come back eventually.
Liz
I'm on my lava tropic grind.
Kelly
It's Kelly. So good. Nope.
Liz
It's so good.
Kelly
So jealous.
Liz
Anyway, I'll bring them tomorrow for our big dealership day. I can bring you in.
Kelly
Please do. Please, please. Anyway, we have a podcast to get to. Sorry it didn't come out on Tuesday. We had some technical difficulties.
Liz
That was so rude. Like, us coming off so such like an insufferable weekend. Like, we were probably so hard to watch on Instagram just being at the derby, and then we don't even, like, come on the mic until Thursday.
Kelly
But we're gonna do like a full blown recap because I don't actually think we captured the weekend appropriately. And there was just like, so many things that happened and it was so much fun and there's so much to say. And, like, we've talked about the derby, but, like, more even more importantly than that, we have to talk about the 2025 Ford Expedition, because this is an automotive podcast, after all, and that is.
Liz
Why we were there. It's crazy. Like, the most important part of the weekend was the car to me, and that. And that remains true. And that would have been true for any car because we just like the cars that much. Where the glitz and the glam is, the fun is fun and fine. But it was all about the new expedition. And I have so many thoughts on the new expedition. Good, good and bad.
Kelly
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So starting off, it was in Nashville. Oh, my gosh. No, it was in Louisville, Kentucky. And so we drove because it's only and a half hours from St. Louis.
Liz
We drove.
Kelly
Sorry. Kelly drove, I rode.
Liz
It's only four and a half hours that I drove there and back by myself. But Elizabeth is an excellent passenger princess. I would recommend her to anyone.
Kelly
Thank you. No, I don't sit on my phone. I know Kelly's not a music girl, so I didn't even try and propose, like, a playlist or anything.
Liz
I don't. I don't like to listen. I'm. I'm some people's worst nightmare because I don't want to listen to music in the car. Like, I want to be talking the whole time or I want to be. Listen to a podcast, like. Or bring something up. Like, let's talk. I hate sitting next to someone and listening to music. It's miserable to me.
Kelly
So here are some of the things that we did to pass the time. First of all, I said, kel, do you think you know all the capitals? And she said, I think I probably know a decent amount. And then I pulled up, as in the state capitals. As in the state, and we went through all the state capitals. And if she couldn't guess it, then I would look up cities within that state, and then she would get multiple choice. So that passed, like, probably 45 minutes.
Liz
And it was so fun to just refresh yourself on the capitals.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Now, will I retain them? No. Will I retain some of them? Yes. Like Wyoming and Cheyenne. Like, I needed that reminder. West Virginia is Charleston, which is confusing.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
You know, just. It felt good to go through them. And it's so crazy how, like, in some states, it's the obvious one, and then in some states, it's the who. Like, what's that about?
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
In. In Missouri, it's the who.
Kelly
Yeah, it's like, it's Jefferson City. It's like, oh, it's not St. Louis.
Liz
No.
Kelly
Oh, it's not Branson. No. It's not Kansas City. No, it's just Jefferson City. Who. Who's she? I never heard of her.
Liz
So yeah, we did that. We did listen to a little music. I, I, when I asked, I said, let's do some that.
Kelly
And most importantly, we wrote diss tracks for the minivans. Kelly and I have always made this rap about the Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle because we just think it's fun to say.
Liz
We need to give the lore of, of, of how we ended up riding a minivan diss track on our way home.
Kelly
So a few years ago, Kelly had a Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle press car, and we thought it was so much fun to say, so we started making a rap. We'd go, chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle, don't get political. Don't be so analytical. And we were just like, how funny would be if we actually wrote a rap for the Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle? And then we were like, how funny would it be if we wrote diss tracks for the minivans? And then we totally ditched the Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle and wrote diss tracks for the Kid Carnival and the Honda Odyssey.
Liz
Well, and to give more context, so I have been watching Paul American, which Have you, have you heard of this show?
Kelly
No.
Liz
It's about Jake and Logan.
Kelly
Paul.
Liz
It's like a documentary about them or like a reality show, I should say. And I didn't know much about them at all, and I still respectfully, could care less. But I am obsessed with their business because it's like they're influencers. Like, it's just interesting and, and they're siblings. So, you know, it's all coming up relevant. And they were saying that their most popular video on YouTube is diss tracks that they wrote for each other. And like, they are savage. Like, they were so mean. So diss tracks were just fresh on my mind. With addition to the Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle, don't get political. We decided to write these mini, these minivan diss tracks. So here's the thing. We think this is there. The tracks themselves are excellent. This is. This could go one of two ways. This could be my viral moment, like, propel me forward, like get millions of views. Or this could be the start to the end for me.
Kelly
The biggest flop, the biggest flop I.
Liz
Ever like, I just don't know if it's going to hit or it's going to be cringe. So if we post this on Instagram and TikTok, everyone needs to go like it. Everyone needs to go comment, everyone needs to share with a friend. Like, this is. You're officially in a group project and I'm doing the work. Like, you just get to be the one to like, sit on the sidelines and show up there.
Kelly
You have to sign your name.
Liz
But sign your name on this presentation. Because if I do a crisis, if I do a minivan diss track to the. To the Internet and it. And if I. I'll be so mad at all of you.
Kelly
Yeah. So. And if you don't feel like signing up, then you can tell us. Hey, girls, you probably shouldn't do it. Like, tell us if this is a bad idea. Should we give. Should we give them a taste of.
Liz
Let's try a taste. Because then. Well, yeah, it won't be too late where we can like, nix it. And we're thinking, like, we're gonna do it upright. Okay. We're gonna do voiceovers, and then we're very much gonna do. You know, Liz is the carnival, I'm the Odyssey. And you know, I'm probably making a Spanx jumpsuit. We've got the Odyssey. We're doing cute things.
Kelly
But. But keep in mind it is a diss track by two white middle aged women. So it could. We have a lot going against.
Liz
Odds are working.
Kelly
I told mom, I said, mom, do you want here a diss track? We might like, make a video about it. She goes, can Kelly rap? I'm like, why? First of all, why are you only worried about it? Kelly can.
Liz
Is she for real?
Kelly
She goes, oh, do you think Kelly will be able to wrap? Anyway, here's. So this is. I'm the car.
Liz
I am just as good at. We have this. I would say that's the thing. We have the same skill level.
Kelly
That's why I was surprised. She's like, I don't think you would be that bad. Okay, sorry, I'm just so funny.
Liz
Okay, so Elizabeth, we decided she's the carnival.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So again, this is the carnival talking to the Odyssey. Stick with us here, people.
Kelly
Odyssey, just a relic on the road. I could cruise right past you. Like I'm in sport mode. Touring, more like boring. Where's the thrill? You're 02-60s like a NyQuil pill.
Liz
So it is excellent.
Kelly
It's a taste.
Liz
Touring, more like boring. Like to the touring term, like, do you guys hear, like, this is cinematic genius.
Kelly
Musical genius.
Liz
Lyrical genius.
Kelly
Lyrical genius.
Liz
Okay. I'm trying to think what I should do. Okay, ready?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Now, this is the response. This is just one verse. There's multiple verses.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I'm the Odyssey rapping to the carnival. Now I'm nervous. I feel like everyone's like staring at me.
Kelly
Well, mom is listening to this and expecting you to fail.
Liz
Okay. You can be the mpv. I'll stay the mvp. Soccer practice to road trips, that's legacy. Third row access is your demise. Let me introduce you to the magic slide. Yeah, you were better.
Kelly
No, it's so good. So anyway, let us know if we should do it. And if you say, yeah, you should do it, then you better go comment and like, and share this video.
Liz
Yeah, and I'm expecting like nine word plus comments. Apparently that's the new thing on the algorithm. Like if. If the comments are more than nine words, they like, they know they. Then they push the video out so.
Kelly
You can just comment. Wow, girls, that was super fantastic. Kelly can rap. That's 9 wor all you have to say.
Liz
It feels like my time because I've seen a lot of viral minivan videos come across my desk throughout the years. You know, every couple of months, someone who's not even in the auto space, like, makes it makes a minivan video. Like, there was that one guy who's like, bring back the minivans. And he was just talking in green screen. And then like, there's that other video of like that guy from Fast and Furious saying the Sienna's favorite car. Like, they just come across my desk frequently. And I have never put one out into the. Into the universe to the interworlds Internet. So it's my time. Anyway, that. So that was. That was how we got there and how we got back. Like, that was the road trip.
Kelly
Oh.
Liz
We took the GMC Acadia to the Ford Expedition event. Katie was incredible. It is. I love that car. I'm actually really like that car.
Kelly
It's a very nice ride.
Liz
The Super Cruise is next level. Would be hard to road trip without Super Cruise now that I've done it.
Kelly
Yeah. Yeah, it was really nice. It was very comfortable from a passenger's perspective. Kind of dramatic that we, like took the. We took the AKA to the expedition event. But.
Liz
Well, and there was drama.
Kelly
There was a little bit of drama because Kelly had to get it approved from the brand that she could put that many miles in the car. And then like, they.
Liz
So I didn't tell him, like, where I was going.
Kelly
Then they saw who's on the Expedition.
Liz
But apparently, like, everyone just worked. Like there's a lot of just changing of jobs, like in the automotive industry. So like, the guy who was doing marketing at GMC is not doing marketing at Ford.
Kelly
So he was like texting the guy who took his job and he was.
Liz
Like, omg, can't the car I'm driving The Acadia to the expedition event.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Ingest. We think.
Kelly
We think it was Ingest. He was like, no, no, don't worry about it. But it's like, did we really not need to worry about it or.
Liz
Yeah, it's kind of. It's kind of Pittsville, usa, But all the villes on the way down.
Kelly
Hey, Indiana and Kentucky. What's up with that?
Liz
Every other town is a ville.
Kelly
Number one, why is every other town a ville? And number two, why is there no service anywhere?
Liz
The whole drive down? I didn't see LTE since I left Missouri.
Kelly
And that's. Yeah.
Liz
Are you guys okay?
Kelly
We were stuck in 5G, everyone.
Liz
Waynesville, Leesville, this bill. It's like, come up with something. I can't name a Single Ville in St. Louis.
Kelly
Can you not off the top of my head.
Liz
It's.
Kelly
But okay, so that's the drive down. So we get there. We. We're staying at. Ford put us up at a nice hotel. Simone Biles was staying at our hotel. I was surprised at the. I don't know why I was surprised. I guess I didn't think about the amount of, like, true big celebrities and influencers that would be at the Kentucky Derby. I mean, I didn't see any of them, but, like, I saw on social media, they were all there. And a few of them were staying at our hotel, which was kind of.
Liz
Because they were making, like, videos, and we could see, like, Alex Earl was at our hotel.
Kelly
Yeah. So we were, like, looking at their hotel room videos. We're like, that's the lamp we have in our room. Oh, my gosh, she's here.
Liz
So that. That was fun and definitely provided, like, a level of drama for the weekend. Just like, not knowing, like, who you're gonna see, but I have to say, not calling, like, a celebrities, because we're not. But we met a lot of carpoolers also.
Kelly
We did. Which is so fun. I also wasn't expecting that.
Liz
No, it was really good for. I really appreciated those of you who came up to me when I was in a group of people because, like, for the four people to see me have fans in the wild was, like, really good for the brand.
Kelly
Really good.
Liz
So I really appreciate that.
Kelly
Yeah. Thank you.
Liz
But as far as our. We're concerned, like, we. We got there and we went straight to a hat selection and bourbon tasting contest. I. Bourbon tasting contest. Bourbon tasting. Bourbon is the most disgusting drink in the world.
Kelly
Gross.
Liz
It's the exact opposite of a clean, simple eats energy drink. Like, it is vile.
Kelly
I can't put enough things in it to like it. They're like, try the mint julep. It's better with a julep. Nope. Tastes actually the exact same. It's gross. I won't be having any of it. Thank you. The hat selection was fun. Bring back hats. Why did we stop wearing hats?
Liz
Well, that was a big talking point of the whole weekend. Why did we stop wearing hats? And it's like, we're just. We're constantly trying to make it harder on mothers because now, like, we always have to have our hair washed and done versus, like, what if I just put a fascinator on? Then it doesn't. Then I'm polished.
Kelly
Then we're polished. It's another accessory. Turns out I look amazing in hats. Who knew? Every hat I put on, it was just like, wow. And we had a. There was a Louisville stylist there. He's the stylist of Louisville. And he was like, with your head shape and your height and your posture, you are made for hats.
Liz
He was dead on.
Kelly
And he didn't say that to Galli. He goes, why don't you try fascinator?
Liz
And he was like, that's fine. We can. It's fine. I don't look good in hats, and.
Kelly
No, you look good. No, I fear I also looked good in the fascinators, but you looked so cute in your fascinator. So we got to pick out hats, which was so fun. Bring back hats. Then we had an amazing dinner.
Liz
It was. It was. It was an amazing dinner. It was a little too, like, cheffy for me. Like, to give context. Like, I don't like, when the dessert or the appetizer like, included, like, a foam as, like, a whole part of it.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And then, no, it was like, a duck moose foam.
Kelly
Like, I actually thought it was good.
Liz
It just was a little much for me. And then, like, the dessert included, like, a piece of bacon that was, like, smoked in chocolate. Like, it was just, like, a little. It was a little too above my palate.
Kelly
But tell everyone who you sat next to.
Liz
Oh, I sat next to my new best friend, dad. Advice from beau.
Kelly
Daughter Emily.
Liz
Daughter Emily. Yes.
Kelly
Bo was there. He was sitting next to Emily. And then it was Emily. And then it was Kelly.
Liz
First of all, the get afford, like.
Kelly
Huge get.
Liz
Millions and millions of followers.
Kelly
Could not be. I've never met nicer people in my entire life.
Liz
I've never met nicer people. As nice as you think they are online, they are nicer in person.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Like, for everyone else, it's probably the opposite. They are somehow nicer in person.
Kelly
So personable, so precious. I just. I loved them.
Liz
I have no. Like, they are.
Kelly
I. I was such a fire to be them.
Liz
It was so weird to say goodbye because it's just like, we got so close over the weekend and I'm like, I don't think our path. You just don't know if your paths are ever going to cross again. And I really hope that they do.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Because it was wonderful. She was fantastic. So, yeah, give them a follow. Not that they need it, but they were great. And then I also sat across from the engineer, the head engineer of the.
Kelly
Ford Expedition, which was incredibly exciting and such a good conversation. Normally, these events, they only have PR people. And so Kelly's like, why did you not do this in the car? Why isn't this not included? They, like, only know their PR answer. This guy gave actual answers. As for the why. Because sometimes we. Kelly will toy these cars and she's like, why didn't you just do that? And there's no one to answer. And he was like, well, we didn't do that because of this. And it was like, oh, he was justified.
Liz
He liked. He wanted me to challenge him. He wanted me to ask him questions. Like, it was like, I've been. I always get asked if, like, I've ever, like, consulted on a car. And, like, I've never, like. So I've never been paid to, like, consult. It was a consultation for a Ford. And, like, I don't believe I will be getting any royalties, but, like, I do feel as though I was advocating heavily for us.
Kelly
For sure it was.
Liz
And I said. I sort of said. I said, I love the Ford petition. Like, I drive one, obviously. I said, why don't you make the middle head restraints? Why don't you make the head restraints in the third row removable? Which is a fair question. And he gave a good answer. He was like. And, you know, because they do, it's hard. It's hard to remember that sometimes, like, people outside of just my audience do also buy this vehicle, you know, and he's like, our data shows us that people are con people. In the Ford Expedition, not so much the max, he's like, but for the Expedition, are constantly putting the third row up and down. And they really value the automatic headrest that go up and down versus, like, if we had a removal, they wouldn't be automatic, so they wouldn't be able to come in and out. I was like, at least there was a reason.
Kelly
At least there was a reason.
Liz
And really the Expedition headrests aren't offensive to me. Like, they're not to me that like the Chrysler Pacifica is offensive. Like, they need to be really. Like, they need a strong talking to the expedition ones though aren't offensive or I almost blame more the car seats who can't work with those headrests or who won't allow a gap than I do. The Ford Expedition.
Kelly
Yeah, totally.
Liz
But it was just like he was wonderful. He like, seemed genuinely like there are so many people and we've now been doing this for like five years and there's so many people who like, don't get what we do. And like, we feel like we're always trying to prove ourselves. They like, couldn't believe how well we knew the cars. Like, we were. They asked us about every car, what we thought, how it compared. Like, it was amazing. It was like the best in her my life. Aside from like the moosey duck.
Kelly
Yeah, aside from the moosey duck. The conversation was incredible. And he said he'd come on the podcast. So we need to follow up on that. On that.
Liz
We need to follow up on that.
Kelly
Today's episode is brought to you by Clean Simple Eats. It's very apparent from the beginning of this podcast how obsessed we are with Clean Simple Eats. Their energy drinks are insane. All of their canned protein drinks are delicious. Very high in protein, 20 grams of protein. I love all of their powders. I use the vanilla for my shakes and for my smoothies and I use the pink burger first for my post workout drinks. I have something from Clean Simple Eats every single day. I'm not even kidding. I'm so, so obsessed. So you can get 10 off your order at Clean Simple Eats when you visit cleansimpleats.com and use code CARPOOL10 at checkout. That's cleansimpleats.com code CARPOOL10 for 10 off your order. The link is also in the show notes. Check it out. So next day we went to the Oaks. Could not have been a more beautiful day. Was the day of the. Of the weekend because it poured at the derby and the Oaks was fun. It was fun. We bet we found out that horse racing is a lot more fun to watch when you have money on it.
Liz
So yeah, we, we didn't. What I don't like about these things in Vegas is kind of the same way. No one actually, like wants to take you the time to explain anything to you because, like, everyone's just so busy and it's you. You always just feel like you're behind. Like, there is nothing more. I'm a very confident person, and there is nothing more intimidating to me than like a. Like a blackjack table in Vegas.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Like, they don't. They don't think you're. You could be as darling as possible. They don't think you're cute if you don't know how to play. And I don't know where everyone learns how to do these things. So, like, you get up, and maybe we just kind of had, like, some sassy people, like, you get up there. There's not. You're not asking questions. Like, you are saying your bet in, like, five words or less. Yeah, like three. Five dollars. Three. Show. Like, that's all you're supposed to say.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So the first couple times I blew through 20, I had no idea what I was doing. I was too scared to ask for change, so I just gave the girl 20 and gave her my horse. Didn't win a thing. That was Elizabeth's money.
Kelly
It was my money. I didn't win a thing. Yeah.
Liz
Then once I was down about $25, I kind of just had the realization. Elizabeth had the realization, like, why don't we just bet, like, internally? Like an internal bet, you know, it'll save me the steps. I'm already, like, the best. The best case for me is I win 25, and then I'm at zero.
Kelly
So we decided to. I was like, I'm gonna pick this one. You pick this. And she picked this one. If you win, you don't owe me anything. And if I win, then you have to double. You owe me $50. Will double the 25. And we started playing like that, and it was just as exciting. So my tip for the Derby, or any horse racing in general, is don't lose your money to the house. Lose your money to your sister.
Liz
But if you don't have a Sister, if it's $2 or $20, it's the same amount of fun.
Kelly
Same, totally.
Liz
But definitely bet.
Kelly
It's a lot. It's very.
Liz
Because if not, you're just watching. If not, it's not. You know, you're just watching. Watching a race.
Kelly
Yeah. So that was a lot of fun. And then after the Oaks, what did we do?
Liz
Well, then it was time for the expedition.
Kelly
Oh, my gosh. That was that day. Wow.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
It was a long day together. Wow.
Liz
Then we left the Oaks, went home, went to the hotel. I took a 30 minute, Napoleon pumped, and we got dressed, and then we got the keys to the expedition. Now, they had asked me ahead of time. Like, what expedition do you want? And I'm like, well, I for sure want a Max. I want a bench. Like, we don't have a bench. And I'm like, okay, of course you don't. I would. I'll take a King Ranch. Because I've never really seen the King ranch trim level, and I wanted just to do something fun. So they pull up a white King Ranch Max, and the whole team, like, they, like, got, like. Like, like three of the main guys there. And then, like, they opened the trunk, and I was like, what are you guys doing? It's kind of weird. I thought, they're going to show me, like, the split tailgate. They opened the trunk. They had gone to Dillard's, assembled and put in an X or a wonderful wagon. Because I had just did a suburban video showing how well a wonderful wagon fits in the back of a suburban. And they're like, we wanted to show you that it also fits good in the Max.
Kelly
Like, it was so petty in the best way possible.
Liz
It was so. I felt so funny. I'm like, oh, my gosh. You guys actually watch my video those now. That certainly didn't help. Like, my. My GMC Acadia took down there. Like, I mean, I'm telling you, I have them rivaling against each other. That's the next diss track.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
But it fit. And then we took off in the expedition. Wow.
Kelly
Poured down. Rain couldn't have been worse. So we kind of, like, waited. Waited the rain out. We stopped and, like, got some food, waited for it to stop raining. And then we had, like, less time than we were anticip before we had to meet them for dinner. And so we, like, pulled off to a random distillery because, like, we didn't know where to film. We weren't familiar with the area. And we filmed some reels. We. We weren't able to film a tour because we honestly ran out of time. But we are going to try and get a 25, like, as soon as possible to film a full tour. But a lot has changed. A lot is new. Overall, I really like the changes. The tech is really, really impressive. The split tailgate's awesome. The configurations that they can do. And the trunk is sweet. The. The steering wheel is oval. I've never seen a steering wheel.
Liz
The steering wheel, it's, like, so small and ovally, and you get a little nervous for a second, but then it's totally fine. Yeah, I actually really enjoyed it. I was. I was shocked how much better the drive was than my 23.
Kelly
The drive was really, really good.
Liz
I was genuinely shocked. I like the tech. They just made like interesting choices. It's still. Is it, is it my favorite tech? No. Is it better? Yes. I think that if I'm putting them against her, I do think the General Motors tech's probably a little bit better.
Kelly
In what way? What do you mean?
Liz
I so like they didn't add a heads up display and said it was a screen.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Maybe I would need to drive it more. But it was just like a lot of screen. It was like a big screen. And I shouldn't say it's just, it's, it's just not my favorite. Like, I just have my, I just have my reason.
Kelly
Yeah. It, this, the two screens made. The two screens are like very integrated with each other in the sense that like, if you had one thing pulled up on one screen, then something else would appear with the other one. That's kind of like supposed to go together, which was cool, but it also was kind of confusing. I think you would get used to it over time.
Liz
No, I, I We're aligned.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I again, it's better. I. The power console is nice. They took away a few things. Like, they took away the additional glove box. Like mine has two glove boxes and they just like took that away, which felt like kind of silly to me. And then they took away the door cup holder in the second row.
Kelly
Yeah. So there's, which is like, there's no cup holder. It is like a rectangular box thing. So you technically could, I guess put like a wallet there. But it's not a cup holder where you could.
Liz
No. You know what's gonna do? I'm gonna think I can put my coffee there. I'm gonna spill my coffee. That was a big mess. Like, that was genuinely very disappointing.
Kelly
Yeah, don't, don't change what's good in.
Liz
The tr now the split tailgate. I agree. We're aligned. Like, the split tailgate really sets us apart, especially compared to the other full size SUV's. The trunk has party tricks. I've done reels about it. Like you can go look it up to really highlight the split tailgate though. The tailgate is two toned in all of the new Ford Expeditions. So it's black. So like the top of the trunk is black. No matter if you get white, gray, silver, like, it's black and I don't like it. They said it's polarizing and I would say I'm on the side of I don't like it.
Kelly
Yeah, I don't know how I feel about it yet. I think it looks better on certain colors. I think it's very interesting to just like it looks like it should be on a like a Stealth or like a sporty or an. Or an off roading trim. Like it looks like it should be trim specific. And it's on every single trim on every single color.
Liz
So I'm in like a white King ranch with like saddle brown interior and I have this like weird like black tailgate. Like it just wasn't going for me.
Kelly
Yeah. I don't know how I feel about it yet. I'm not. I'm reserving my. My judgments.
Liz
Not a deal breaker, but it just is what it is.
Kelly
Yeah. All in all, I liked it. All in all, I really liked it all.
Liz
I really liked it. So that's what we did. Then we went to a fabulous dinner, talked to more people, had some more fun conversations, and then we were exhausted. So we went to bed.
Kelly
And woke up. The derby went and we got ready for the derbs. The derby was so rainy, but it was cool. We got to like go in the field. We got to meet the bugler. Bugler. Bugler. We did end up leaving a little bit early from the Derby because we were supposed to. The other influencer stayed a whole other night. But we could not be gone three nights from our seven month old babies. So we did get on the road from the Derby.
Liz
We did miss the actual Derby race.
Kelly
We did miss the actual derby race. Yes.
Liz
But in a way, you've seen them. 1. You see. You see them. You see them.
Kelly
Yeah. So. And you know what? I think I'll go back. I don't. I. In a lot of ways I do feel as though that was a once in a lifetime experience for me. And there's a very good chance that it was. But I also see a world where I go back to the Derby or. Or a horse race.
Liz
I see a world where I go back to the Derby. It's not like. I mean, we obviously had like very bougie tickets, but which I would probably never pay for. But there's other tickets to get.
Kelly
Yeah. And I just liked going to a horse race.
Liz
And maybe Ford will invite us again. I mean, I really think we churned out some of the best content of our life.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Or maybe General Motors will invite me next year.
Kelly
Yeah. Who. So whoever. General Motors or Ford. Who wants to take the car home to the derby? Choices.
Liz
You're a good time gal.
Kelly
But just don't make us gone three nights because we will not stay.
Liz
No, we can only do two nights, and I also need more time with the car.
Kelly
Yeah. So.
Liz
So, yeah. So that was our trip, and it was fabulous. And now we're just kind of back to the grind. I am in the middle of a very intense pantry. Fridge food. Clean out.
Kelly
Wow.
Liz
Yeah. I just, you know, want to use what we have. I'm trying, like, not to grocery shop. And last night I made the most delicious supper that I just pulled out of nowhere, which I'm so proud of myself. Sausage, sauerkraut, homemade sourdough. Bread. Bread. I'm still baking bread. My husband can't get over me. He's like, obsessed with me because I can make bread now.
Kelly
Make bread. The bread.
Liz
I really can't wait. I'm gonna put on my hill house nap dress and I'm gonna, like, do it this Sunday, like, pull out a fresh loaf for mother's day.
Kelly
Wow. Wow.
Liz
Tonight though, I'm doing something kind of crazy for supper. So I have a box of stove top stuffing and pork sausage. And I was like, I've heard of like a recipe like, of sausage balls before, like with those two ingredients. So I typed it into old chatsy chat cgbtz and I'm making sausage balls for supper.
Kelly
I have a box of that mix.
Liz
And you have pork sausage.
Kelly
Yeah, I do. Like sausage. Like ground sausage or like sausages?
Liz
Like ground sausage?
Kelly
Okay. I don't think I have ground sausage.
Liz
Well, just tell chatgpt you don't. Here, you want to read you the recipe?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Sausage balls with celery. Because I also told them I had celery.
Kelly
Oh, okay.
Liz
One pound of ground breakfast sausage, one and a half cups of dry stuffing mix, one cup of cheddar cheese, celery, onion, chicken broth, egg, garlic powder, black pepper. Preheat the oven at 375. In a large bowl, combine the stuffing and chicken broth. Let sit for 5 minutes. Add sausage, cheese, celery, and onion using garlic powder. And then like, you season everything. Mix well with your hands or a sturdy spoon. Roll into 1 inch balls about the size of a golf ball. Place them evenly on a prepared baking sheet. Bake them for 20, 25 minutes until the sausages cook through.
Kelly
Okay. Sounds delicious.
Liz
So we'll see what happens. I mean, I don't know if anyone's gonna like it. I'll probably leave out the cheese for George or maybe like half what she's half without. But it just kind of feels like a way to use what I have.
Kelly
And with the invention of Chat GPT, I really think you can get even more creative with what you have in your pantry.
Liz
No, we're aligned. So I gotta use the Israeli couscous.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So I have. I think I'm gonna ask Chat C for my next one. I Israeli couscous. I've got, like, four tomatoes that need to probably get a. Find a home. What's the recipe? And I'm gonna ask her. Not. Not right now. I'm not gonna do it on the podcast. But, like, that's my next step.
Kelly
Okay. Yeah.
Liz
It's, like, really trying to, like, go a little further. I'm feeling very excited for summer. I actually. You know what I did also.
Kelly
Huh.
Liz
Well, I'm just, like, a little overwhelmed with, like, camps and this and that and summer school and when school out and lake trips. So I. I love my Skylight calendar. I love my Google calendar. Like, I'm not a written calendar person, but need to see it all in one in. I need to see the summer at a glance. So I got down to my printer and I printed off May, June, July, August.
Kelly
It's small.
Liz
Just to see the summer at a glance.
Kelly
That's. It's important. I mean. Yeah, it is so inconsistent from what you're used to. I think that's definitely the move to see it all. Yeah.
Liz
So in my summer shaping up, I just really want to have. I was kind of talking to Tyler about this, but, like, last summer, I was just so pregnant with my fourth child.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And having, like, Fred be who Fred is, and, like, the other kids, like, wanted to do so many fun things, and I just didn't feel good. And we had an auto show. I just didn't feel good, like, basically the whole summer. And I just really want to enjoy myself this summer. Like, I want to, like, keep up. I want to swim. Like, I just haven't swam with my kids. Like, I want to be the one in the pool.
Kelly
Yeah, me too.
Liz
I want to. And Libby's going to be a pain in the butt, but better out than in with her.
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
So it's not going to be as bad. And I'm just really excited to just, like, have fun.
Kelly
Me too. I. I said the exact same thing to Mom. I mean, the last two summers, I have been, like, so pregnant, and I finally am, like, kind of starting to feel like myself for the first time in two years. And I'm just excited to know what she looks like in the summer.
Liz
Yeah. I don't know who we are.
Kelly
I don't either. But anyway, let's. I know we did this was Very industry heavy. But there is some industry news that I do think we need to talk about, and that is the recall quote unquote. It's just Volkswagen I.D. buzz.
Liz
Let's get into it. So the I.D. buzz only has two seats in the third row. And I think you will call me being like, I like there's only two seats back there because they're two big comfortable seats. Now, NHTSA has a law stating that if your bench is over 55 inches, you have to have three seat belts back there because their fear is that people will try to sit through people back there who aren't properly buckled. So do. I don't know how. I don't know how this got missed. I really don't. But it's not that there's only two seats back there. It's that the bench is too wide to only have two seat belts. So the van's been recalled.
Kelly
So not because the van is unsafe if people are sitting in it as intended. It's recalled because some people might do what is. It's like what is considered illegal and drive with ride without a seatbelt.
Liz
Exactly. It's like ruining it for all of us. So bum. I mean, if I'm Volkswagen, like, well, I mean, I guess they shouldn't have missed it. Like, it's someone's job to know that. And what's like. So the Atlas only has two seats back there, but the Alice is only 49 inches. The second row, the third row. So just very interesting. I mean, the remedy they're adding. They're just adding plastic trim to the seat to make it smaller.
Kelly
I'm sure it's someone's job to know all the rules and regulations, but I'm sure that there are. So there are thousands of very legitimate rules and regulations that do, in fact, keep people safe. And this one is just like, so crazy. And it's just that it's a really big and wide bus and they're trying to make people comfortable. And I under. I can see how this was missed. I can't really see how it was missed by. Honestly, like, what's the regulation for getting a car even approved to come on the road? Like, I feel like it was supposed to be NHTSA's job just to. To call this out before it's been literally sold in on dealer lots. Yeah.
Liz
Aligned.
Kelly
So it's stupid tough. But. So that's our industry news, I guess our ditch of the drive through is.
Liz
Sausage balls.
Kelly
Sausage.
Liz
That was a great one.
Kelly
It's a great one.
Liz
Thank you.
Kelly
