Liz
Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly. Like, it's crazy and I think it's predatory and I think it's offensive and I think shame on evenflo. I think I'm sorry. And Liz.
Tyler
I knew exactly, exactly where the key was. I knew when the time came to take the car seat out, I knew where everything was needing to be. Poor guy spent 30 minutes in the heat trying to rip this car seat out.
Liz
Your mom time off starts now. Welcome back to the carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. What up, Liz?
Tyler
Kel, Not a whole lot, actually, kind of a whole lot. Guess what I'm doing today.
Liz
You're painting.
Tyler
Well, I am going to paint a little bit, so the renovation is moving right along.
Liz
Actually, I, you know, it's. I don't want to talk about it too much because I'm just like worried you're going to get a hiccup. But I don't think anyone's giving you enough credit for general contracting this.
Tyler
Thank you.
Liz
And yeah, you can go ahead.
Tyler
Well, I was going to say I. So I said I'm quote unquote, general contracting. And then someone DM'd me saying that she's like an attorney or a paralegal or something. And she was like, you shouldn't claim yourself as that because people can sue you. And I'm like, I don't think anyone's going to sue me. But I'm not.
Liz
I.
Tyler
For all intensive purposes, I am not a general contractor. I'm just lining my contractors up. And I didn't hire someone to do that.
Liz
Okay, totally. You have to be so careful, though. No, you, like, never know.
Tyler
I don't know.
Liz
No, you don't know what? You don't know.
Tyler
I don't know what.
Liz
Anyway, you're the one lining everybody up, and thus far, it's giving out a hitch.
Tyler
I know there was one thing so far that we, we had planned to do that we couldn't do because we opened a wall and there was like a pipe there and we couldn't move the pipe. But that was just. I just want that it was fine. Like, I didn't have cabinets invested in that spot. Like, it didn't change anything that I've already had in place. So other than that, things have been going really well. So this is like a dead week for me. So in an effort to save some money, I am going to do a little bit of painting today. And I did plan on spe most of the day painting because Kelly has other plans today. But I got a text that I need to. They sold my car, so I have to go get a new car. And I'm very excited about the new car I'm getting.
Liz
Are you gonna reveal?
Tyler
Yeah, I'm gonna reveal. I mean, I can reveal right now at this point. I've already gotten it, so you've seen it on my Instagram. But I am getting Ikea Carnival. I'm a minivan mom.
Liz
Wow, it's so exciting for you.
Tyler
I'm so excited to experience the functionality because really, like, the functionality of a minivan, it's unmatched. But the drive of a minivan. I know is not. Is matched. Is matched.
Liz
I really don't think you're gonna notice it. No offense.
Tyler
I'm curious to know if I to see if I will notice it. Driving mid size SUVs for the past, you know, several years and now I'm stepping into a minivan. I'm very, very excited.
Liz
Yeah, no, I think you're going to.
Tyler
Love it.
Liz
Like, couldn't you just see that for us? Like, I'm the fullest SUV girl and like, you're the minivan girl.
Tyler
Totally. And honestly, Maddie, more than anything, like, once.
Liz
Oh, Tyler's always blowing up my spot about getting a minivan. Yeah, everyone's always blowing up my spot. Like, I'm good And happy in my expedition right now.
Tyler
Yeah, no, I could. So see, like, that's so us.
Liz
So us.
Tyler
Like, you drive an expedition. I drive a minivan.
Liz
But I do. I mean, I, I'm getting a bit of the new car itch.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
I have my expedition. Like, I think it's been 18 months probably, which I know is like, so, I mean, it's nothing. I get it.
Tyler
But it's the longest you've ever driven. Imagine this and let us recognize our privilege before anyone comes comes to us. We have always driven demo cars. We've always swapped out of cars every 5,000 miles every six months. That's a long time to be in a car for, for what you're used to.
Liz
Yeah.
Tyler
So you're getting the edge. So what do you think?
Liz
Well, I think I'm comfortable with what I'm. What I'm at right now.
Tyler
The grass isn't always greener.
Liz
The grass isn't always greener. And I think if I do make a change, I'm trying to decide between like, if I would do a new expedition, I just. They're just very, I mean, they're just very expensive, the new ones. And like you'd think I'd like get a deal, but like, no, not really. I mean, yeah, it's not like Ford's giving me ones. Like I.
Tyler
So it does feels like. It does kind of feel like a missed opportunity. Like the car mom drives your car, but maybe they don't care.
Liz
It's just kind of crazy how like the manufacturers, they really are so stingy about long term loans.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
You know, like, I think I've had one long term loan and that was the Chevy Traverse for a month, which was helpful.
Tyler
Yeah. Yeah.
Liz
But sometimes it's like a week is not enough time for me to like play with this car. You know that. And I think that's why like all the other like bigwig publications, like, they just have to buy their cars.
Tyler
That's true.
Liz
You know what I'm saying? Like Consumer Reports, Motor Trend, Car and Driver. Like they eventually just, you grow, you get the budget, you just buy the car.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Which I don't want to do that, but something I do want to do because I just can't imagine, like, whatever. We just don't have that infrastructure. Like we're just a couple of moms. But what I'd like to do though is like, why do I need to have the car to hear a long term review about it? Like, eventually we're going to get to the point where it's like the carpoolers, the car mountain community can just tell us about their car and, like, a more organ. What. You know, we got. We got secret projects. I'm not going to spoil. Not going to spoil.
Tyler
But just know when. When the group project. When it comes time to sign your name on the group project. Yeah, you got to sign your name.
Liz
No. And that's going to be iconic.
Tyler
Yeah, it's coming.
Liz
So anyway, all to say is you're getting a new car today and painting and. Yeah, I'm. I'm hanging out with my friends.
Tyler
What are you guys going to do?
Liz
We're going to the farm for a mom's day.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
This group of friends that I've been hanging out with, they're just really good at making things happen. And I just think that's like, a really important thing to do in a friend group. And I'm not even going to take the credit for it, but they're just like, hey, we're hanging out this day, and, like, everyone just gets a sitter and we just all figure it out, and everyone just follows through. It's just, like, a lot of commitment.
Tyler
That's nice. Yeah.
Liz
Which I can't believe how much I appreciate, you know?
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
And we just, like, all set the calendar and, like, it's like, that's what we do. It's just good to have follow through.
Tyler
It is good to have follow through, because I know. I know this does not have you written on it at all. You're very much a tell me when and where, and I can make it happen. So who. Who's. What do you think is the ticket? Because I feel like a lot of people are maybe craving this kind of friendship. Like, what have you noticed that these girls are doing?
Liz
So I think it's. It's not just one person. Like, it's a group of, like, I think there's like, five people in this group chat. So I think it's almost. So I don't want to say it's, like, easier just to cancel on one person, but it's like, you know, everyone's kind of going, like, it's just kind of like there's power in numbers, you know?
Tyler
Okay, sure.
Liz
And I think we also do a good combination with this group of hanging out with kids without kids, which I.
Tyler
Think is really important, too, which I.
Liz
Think is so helpful. But, you know, it kind of gets to the point, like, we all have a lot of kids. I think with this group, there's like. Like 14 kids. So sometimes it's like so we all kind of, like, take turns, like, you know, hosting the things. But sometimes it's a lot.
Tyler
No, that's a lot of kids.
Liz
So then we cancel, and then, you know, sometimes we do things with the husband. Sometimes we do things. So it's just. It's like a different combination. So today we're just going to the farm just for a couple hours. I actually have a. I offered to drive because you know me, I'm like. I'm the driver. Like, I have to drive. And I was going to rip car seats out of my expedition, but I thought in this heat. So we're going to take my press car, which is a Kia Sorrento hybrid.
Tyler
Oh, nice.
Liz
Which I think will be fun. So there's only four of us, so. And there's captain's chairs, so I think it'll be fun to get some moms in it, you know?
Tyler
Yeah, get some moms in it. Drive something different. See, you do get to drive new things, so.
Liz
Yeah, no, that's true. I do get to drive new things, but I do get to drive new things. That's true.
Tyler
No, but speaking of taking car seats out in the heat, I felt so bad for my husband last night. He. We had Sloan's car seat in his truck, and he was trying. We have the Evenflo revolve the new one. He was trying to be sweet by taking it out for me.
Liz
He should stop doing that.
Tyler
And I didn't have my phone. Like, I was inside. I didn't know he got. Had gotten home. I was just inside. I didn't have my phone. He comes in, drenched in sweat. He's like, do you not have your phone? I'm like, no, it's downstairs. He FaceTimed me twice. He texted me. He's like, I cannot get this car seat out of the car. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. What he didn't know. Which there's no reason he should know this because I didn't tell him that the Evenflo Revolve. The new ones have a key.
Liz
Yeah.
Tyler
And to his point, the key wasn't even. The key was downstairs. Like, I knew exactly where the key was. I knew when the time came to take the car seat out, I knew where everything was needing to be. Poor guy spent 30 minutes in the heat trying to rip this car seat out, and he, like, could not figure it out. So.
Liz
Well, a couple things about that one. I hate that even Flo did that. I'm just gonna be honest with you.
Tyler
I hate it.
Liz
And at least like the Kiko one, the. The keys attached to the seat.
Tyler
Attach the key to the seat.
Liz
It's honestly going to make me like rec. That seat potentially less. Because I. I agree it's a bad idea.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
And I don't understand people's. People need to chill with thinking. Rotating seats aren't safe because they're in two pieces. It's like, what do you think an infant seat is like? It's safe and like the. The even flow revolve. I feel so bad for them. Like, so they need someone on their p. All rotating seats. They need someone to do their PR for them because there's been an investig. There's been investigations that have turned out to be giant nothing burgers.
Tyler
But they get. They get in the PR and they. And then they see. They get the headlines and the key. It's just. I mean, what else were they supposed to do? But like, the reason seats maybe were coming apart is because people were driving with them incorrectly.
Liz
No. I need to look up though, why they added that. I don't think they've added it for all of them. I need to talk to Sam about that. Anyway, that's granular. Let's. Let's.
Tyler
Let's granular. Anyway, I don't like it. It was annoying and I wish it wasn't the case.
Liz
Well, do you want to know some hot tea going on in the car seat industry?
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
So I'm ralled. I'm ralled. And I was gonna like, make a reel about this, but then I thought sometimes I don't. I. Sometimes I feel like I am just negative to be negative. And I don't need to do that.
Tyler
Sure.
Liz
You know, like, I don't want to be negative, but I'm gonna be negative on the podcast. So even flow, which again, I love even flow. Okay. Even flow shift. Stunning. Evenflower Evolve360 slim. Stunning. Like, I love those seats. Evenflow had a product announ, which I think you'll all find this interesting even if you're out of the car seats. I think this is juicy gossip. They're coming out with a new rotating car seat and they're advertising it as like a lower price rotating seat. I think it's called like the Roux or something. Let me tell you what it's called.
Tyler
I swear there's already a car seat called the Roux.
Liz
Yeah, it's not called the Roux.
Tyler
I'm trying to look it up. Rio.
Liz
Yeah. Okay, thank you. The Evenflo Rio. And they're advertising it as like a lower priced rotating seat, but it's still like 250, 260 or something. 240, it's not cheap as chips by any stretch of the imagination.
Tyler
And also like you can get. When the Evenflow Revolve360 slims on sale, you can get it for 250 easy.
Liz
Yeah, I know. Anyway, it only goes up to 40 pounds, rear facing and forward facing. And then the entire seat is outgrown. Which is which people? Which is a horrible seat design because Hattie's over £40. So then what fam?
Tyler
So then, yeah.
Liz
So then what's a family supposed to do? Be like, okay, so now I either have to buy another seat or just send her to a booster because she's outgrown there.
Tyler
Right.
Liz
And so families are. So it's, it's going to set nobody up for success because families are either going to be unaware that it has such a low limit because why would. I mean, because not everyone's checking that and they're going to be all like excited about the lower price and people just unfortunately, like the majority people don't understand how their car seat works. And like the fact that the car seats all can't get together and come up with some freaking guidelines is offensive.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Pisses me off.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
So anyway.
Tyler
So the Rio.
Liz
So the Rio. So it only goes up to 40 pounds. So then families are either going to not. Not realize that and keep. Keep a heavier kid in a car seat that's not safe or then they're going to go straight to a booster, which is also not. Not because what are they going to do? They just bought a convertible car seat and now you're telling them they had to go buy another convertible car seat before the booster seat. And like every other. And that's rear facing and forward facing, like the seat only goes to £40.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Which is bizarre.
Tyler
Yeah, yeah.
Liz
The other seats all go to 65ish.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Like it's crazy and I think it's predatory and I think it's offensive and I think shame on even flow. I think. I'm sorry, because you're just, you know, they were trying to sell it as like, you know, it's a more affordable rotating seat, but like it's not because I just told you that families are going to be forced to buy another seat and if you need an affordable seat, then probably a rotating seat's just not for you.
Tyler
Yeah, yeah.
Liz
And if you really need one that bad, like for your specific car seat setup, honestly, message Me. And I'll just buy you one because, like, like, let's focus on that.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Like, it's just, it's such. I don't like it. I don't like it.
Tyler
Well, and again, like, I'm sure when they all go on sale, obviously that price is going to drop, but if like 250 is. It's. It's price. Like, again, like you can just go buy the Evolve Revolve Slim on sale for 250.
Liz
No, it's just like Graco in their way that they had the Slim Fit and the Slim Fit 3 LX. And the Slim Fit's cheaper. Like, they're just. I'm telling you, they're just trying to sell seats. I'm sorry. I really believe that with my whole chest. I believe they're just trying to sell seats and they don't really care to their core that it's the wrong seat or the families are misusing seats. I mean, I know that sounds dramatic, but then, like, give me another explanation then.
Tyler
Yeah, I mean, it's. They're not, they're not really. They're. They probably feel the warm and fuzzies of. Well, now family can. Like, they don't care about the long term. Like, they're not thinking about the, the long term.
Liz
It's honestly just. I just find the cartoon industry to be a bit corrupt, if you ask me.
Tyler
I find the car seat industry naming to be so ridiculous. What's worse than some, like, crazy car names that I hate? Like xc90cx, 90xcqx, you know, I hate that. What I hate even more is car seat names.
Liz
Yeah.
Tyler
And how one little like dash could mean it's a totally different seat. It's moronic and I don't understand it.
Liz
Well, and don't you just also find it a little moronic that, like, which I don't think. I mean, I think this is also kind of a hot take. Like, we all just hear that, like, they pass the same safety guidelines, which is true. But, like, we also don't hear, like, who did the best because, like, we're not allowed to hear that information.
Tyler
And, and why?
Liz
I guess because they don't people. Because. But because I guess at some point I do understand. Like, at some point, like, is a more expensive seat safer? Like, I think that would get people. And we don't. We honestly don't know that. Like, that's the crazy part. We don't actually know that.
Tyler
Right.
Liz
But then these, these more expensive seats have these other safety features, like an anti rebound bar. But then like, we're not actually supposed to be. You're. You actually can't say that that's safer because we don't have the results. But then like, but then that's how they're justifying the price being. That's how like a collect foom sells for 500 and then a Costco sells for $69. And like we're just all living in this like reality that they, they all pass the same guidelines, which of course they pass the same guidelines. And I don't, you know, I go back and forth with it because I think, I get it. I get it. But I also think people are entitled to information.
Tyler
I agree. I think you can make inform. You think you can make decisions based on the information you have. And I think that if they did release the results, then maybe that would light a fire under some of their, their butts to make them better and still affordable.
Liz
Yeah, I don't know. I don't want to.
Tyler
I mean we can see the results of cars like.
Liz
Yeah, I know. Because of the ihs and that's why, because of the iihs. And that's sometimes why Consumer Reports gets under really big fire for testing their car seats because they will release that information and then it gives people Pittsville, usa. And then there's like questions like, is the, is those Consumer Reports test, are they done accurate? There's, there's, honestly just, it's, there's a lot of drama. I'll just say that and I'm going to. I don't know. I get it. Feels a little between rock and hard place. I get it. Yeah, I get it.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
And ultimately I do believe like there, you know, there's just things you're, you're taught as a CPS to say. And I do believe that like the best car seat is the one you can afford and install correctly every time. And that is the best car seat for you.
Tyler
For sure.
Liz
That is the best car seat for you. But then it was like, I just think it's funny that we all like live in this world where car seats are varying by hundreds of dollars and like no one's allowed to say, like, I wonder why.
Tyler
Yeah, you know, it's kind of weird. Yeah.
Liz
It's just kind of silly.
Tyler
Well, enough, enough about airing out our grievances on the car seat community. Didn't see that one come in this morning.
Liz
Yeah.
Tyler
At the time of this recording, you are in Nashville.
Liz
Oh, the Music City.
Tyler
Music City, Yep.
Liz
I'm in Nashville for work. I'M doing a speech with capital one.
Tyler
Love it.
Liz
Love these trips. I get to take Tyler, which he's less than excited about Nashville. Tyler hates country music. Everyone expects him to like country music, I think, which you can't win. You can't put Tyler in a box like that.
Tyler
No, you can't tell her.
Liz
Actually has very specific taste in music. I would describe his taste in music and I've told him this to his face. I would describe his taste in music as like if a 15 year old girl from England was going through a breakup. I think her and Tyler would have a lot of synergy in their playlist.
Tyler
Totally.
Liz
Do you know what I mean?
Tyler
Yes.
Liz
It's like really British alternative breakup music is like where Tyler likes to plant his flag.
Tyler
Live version.
Liz
Live version.
Tyler
Like in the pub, only the liver. Like the live version that was uploaded by some random person. Like that's the specific version he wants to listen to.
Liz
And I. I guess there's a level of it that's like probably just over my head. It's gotta be because Tyler is musically talented. Like, Tyler's an actow. Actually. People don't know about him. He can play the piano. He can like kind of play the guitar. He's an excellent singer. Like he did choir. Like he actually. So he. So I do think there's a level of, you know, I'm not a music girl.
Tyler
You don't even. You don't even listen to music in the car. You never listen to music.
Liz
I prefer silence in the car.
Tyler
Yeah, so do I. That's so weird.
Liz
I think it's good to be with your thoughts.
Tyler
Well, I'm with my thoughts a lot. I don't. I do listen to music though, more than you. But.
Liz
No, but like I'm picking up like these girls in the Kia and like, there'll be no music. Like I'm gonna make everyone talk the whole way down.
Tyler
No, it's like even if Kelly and I aren't talking, we'll just sit together.
Liz
Or I'll turn on a podcast. I can't imagine, like it does nothing for me. It feet sounds and I don't. It's. It's just specifically in the car. Like I can listen to music outside of the car. Like sometimes I'll turn it on when I'm cooking. But no.
Tyler
Yeah, I mean, I've taken like 5 hour long road trips with you and like, sure. Like we wrote a minivan wrap before we turned music on.
Liz
So weird.
Tyler
So weird.
Liz
So, yeah, I'm in Nashville. Haven't packed Yet. Haven't even thought about my outfits yet. Haven't done much of anything yet.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
But I'm sure I'm enjoying myself.
Tyler
I'm. I'm sure you are.
Liz
We tell her we're driving. Tell her and I. So Tyler doesn't listen to music in the car either though, so that's good. So we'll talk. So I will try to.
Tyler
Because you're just gonna yuck his yum on his. On his music choices.
Liz
Well, he also has to play it so loudly like that. Also like we'll be. If he turns music on. Like, it's like he. He wants to like listen to it. Like, that's also crazy.
Tyler
He wants to be on the street corner that someone filmed a person just playing. Like, he's literally turned that on before. Like, it was like a street corner player and someone just like uploaded the.
Liz
Video and he has like such confidence. Because we'll be like with our family and tell her will be like, like, if Tyler gets the ox. Like he. With his whole. Like, there are songs that I like that I'd be like, this isn't the right crowd for this. Like, let me just turn on Morgan Wallen. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, at some point it's just. This is a Sunday afternoon. The whole family's around. Tyler with. With the full confidence, with his whole chest is like, I'm gonna turn the song on.
Tyler
It's a great song. Everyone listen up. Love him.
Liz
Lulz.

Well, anyway, Liz, what else is new? Wasn't really expecting to go on all those tangents today.
Tyler
You know where what I did Yesterday, I made $85 selling things on Facebook Marketplace. I'd sold three things made $85.
Liz
Oh, heck yeah.
Tyler
Like, I'm so inspired to just like post things on Marketplace and just see what happens. It's so easy. I'm like porch pickup, Benmo. Leave the cash under the mat. I don't have to talk to you. I put it on my porch and it's gone.
Liz
It's. It's the tooth fairy. That's how I. That was like the best. I'm loving the Marketplace mom. I'm also really proud of her. Like, she really is just turning and burning the good content.
Tyler
No, she is. And since the podcast came out, she's gotten like over a thousand followers. And it's just like really cool to see like the carpool community going and supporting another mom.
Liz
I know.
Tyler
And it's good content. So, you know.
Liz
Yeah, I have not had as much luck. I'll be transparent. I'm trying to sell a desk chair. It's not going well.
Tyler
I think your desk chair was grossly overpriced.
Liz
I dropped it to 20.
Tyler
Okay, here's what I do. I price to sell.
Liz
You price.
Tyler
So, like headboard, Queen size headboard. It was a little broken, but it looked from what you can see on a headboard, it's beautiful. 20 bucks gone in 30 minutes.
Liz
Well, here's what I thought was really inspiring though about her is she said her average time to sell an item is five months.
Tyler
That's interesting. See, if, if it's up for a week and it hasn't sold, I delete it and I don't. I go donate it. So I need to. I need to work on the patience game a little bit.
Liz
Well, I think it's just like you're just throwing it out there, you know what I mean? And seeing what sticks.
Tyler
Well, it's just sitting. If. If. If it's just gonna sit in your house anyway, like, these items have been for the past several months. I might as well just throw them up there.
Liz
Yeah. No, I just, like, love it, though, because it's even fun for me. Like, I have a couple of listings active, except a couple of my listings. Do you hire listings from your friends or. No. No.
Tyler
I didn't even know you could do that.
Liz
Oh, sometimes I do that. But then also, like, I've gotten some messages being like, hey, Kelly, I love your account. And I'm like, okay. Well, yeah.
Tyler
Wait, like, people find you?
Liz
No, like, I guess they're just, like, seeing, like, an item I'm selling, and, like, they realize it's me. It's just kind of funny.
Tyler
No, it's kind of funny. But anyways, then they see how grossly overpriced your desk chair is.
Liz
Well, I know. And so, like, I was trying to sell. I had an extra, like, wild bird sling, and I was like, oh, let me just, like, list this. And then it was, like, one of my followers, and I'm like, okay, I'll just give it to you. Like, ye actually don't care. Like, it's like, you know, what says you can have it? Like, pick it up.
Tyler
Part of it is just, like, getting.
Liz
It out of and getting it to hands, and that's. That is something I feel passionate about. That I did talk about on the episode is I think it's. I actually think it's a really good service to label and sell your items on Facebook, Marketplace, if you can, because it gets them to the right people. Like, if I just take a wild bird sling to Goodwill. Well, like, what other people who, like, want a wild bird sling, who they're, like, actively looking for one.
Tyler
Mm. Yeah. And, like, sometimes Goodwill's prices are, like, jacked up to the max, and it's like, I would have sold that for cheaper.
Liz
Well, I just don't think that. I think people might find it, but I think that's a thing that someone's actively seeking out. And, like, if I have one, I'm not using. And I always tell the story about when I had to buy George's Lovey and this girl lover, she tagged it Mary Meyer Starry Nights Lovey.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
And I was able to find it.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
And I'm in. Ever. I'm forever indebted to this woman.
Tyler
Yeah. Having specific.
Liz
Yeah, I did pay her $45 for it.
Tyler
Well, and she knew what she had.
Liz
And she knew she had.
Tyler
So that's why I shouldn't give it to. That's why she didn't donate it.
Liz
But yeah, anyway, I'm continued to be inspired by the marketplace mom. And I just like love like she's so funny too. Like, it's just, she was like, she's just super realistic about it. Like she's not making thousands, thousands a month, but she's like making some coffee money.
Tyler
Dude, I made 85 yesterday. 85 is 85. I don't care who you are.
Liz
Well, it's, it's found money to me.
Tyler
It's found money.
Liz
It's fun money. Don't you dare put that towards anything other than fun stuff for yourself.
Tyler
And also what I like about her is that she posts her like how much, how much she sold in a day. So she's like today's total. And sometimes it's nothing, sometimes it's something. And when she sells something, I for some reason feel like I've made money as well.
Liz
Yeah, we're kind of crazy for that. Okay. So anyway, we're still loving her.
Tyler
Sorry.
Liz
I wanted to tell you that I am still on my hosting grind.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
And I have a couple of like new hosting grind tips to share.
Tyler
You need a whole hosting pod episode.
Liz
Should I just save it for that?
Tyler
No, I mean now you've, now we're all on the edge of our seat, so.
Liz
Well, I'm just having fun with it. I'm just having fun like exploring this. I am going to do a roundup of paper products that make hosting easier.
Tyler
Oh, that's so good, Cal. Because some of them aren't worth it.
Liz
But like I have these. And again, when you're hosting especially, I just told you, when my friends come over, there's 14 kids. Like it's. I mean, I'm sorry, it's paper products at that point, like don't even expect anything. But one thing that I love that we have and I got this from my sister in law, it's clear solo cups with lids and straws. Oh yeah, because lids are good for the kids. Straws are good. You leave a permanent marker else everyone writes their name on it and it's a clear cup with a lid and a straw. And you get them on Amazon and I just keep like, I have them on hand. So like if someone comes over, that's what we pull out.
Tyler
Yeah, love.
Liz
Also like China paper plates. There's nothing better.
Tyler
The superior paper plates.
Liz
Now for my everyday life. Sure. Like, I'm not against a Dixie. Like, that's fine for every day for. For us. If I have. Guess you're getting China.
Tyler
Wow. You pull out your nice. Your fine china for your guest.
Liz
I pull out my fine china. I think that the best disposable utensils are the clear ones.
Tyler
Yeah, I would agree.
Liz
Don't you think that's the fanciest?
Tyler
Well, no, I don't think that's the fanciest, but I think it's sturdy. Like, some of those white ones are so flimsy, you can't even.
Liz
Like, I don't think that's, like, as good of an experience. I think, like, having the nice, clear ones. I'm still on the hunt for a utensil holder. That's something that's really important.
Tyler
Maybe you should look on Marketplace.
Liz
Maybe I should look on Marketplace. And then one of the best things I did. So we hosted the other day, and I bought a bunch of those 9 by 13 disposable foil pans. 9 by 13s. And I have bigger ones, so I have two sizes, like. Like, like you'd make for a casserole. But those are so good because you can make your food ahead of time, put them in there, and then stick those in the oven to keep it warm.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
So we were having friends over, and I pulled out of the deep freeze burgers and pork steaks. Like, that's what I was just, like, that was the protein we were gonna make. But I did. I didn't want to be, like, doing that when the people are there, because the way, like, we're down by the pool, the Blackstone's up here. Like, it just wasn't really working. So I did all of the meat ahead of time, put it in a 9 by 13, foiled it, threw it in the oven on 150 just to keep it warm. Then I made the sides. Then I did the corn, did the same thing. Put it in a 9x13, foiled it, put it in the oven.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
So I did protein. I did burgers and pork steaks, corn. I made a tomato, cucumber mozzarella salad as, like, a big wow.
Tyler
That is a big wow.
Liz
And then I cut up a watermelon, but I had everything prepped before they came over.
Tyler
You're amazing.
Liz
I'm not amazing. I'm learning as I go. But that was so nice to then just, like, pull out the 9 by 13 of the hot food. And then you just set everything up.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Felt good.
Tyler
Totally. Totally felt good.
Liz
And then Anyway, speaking of hosting, can I go out of order and can I do ditch the drive thru? Next?
Tyler
Yeah, sure.
Liz
Okay, so two things. One, we are doing Thorgest. So get your pants ready, get your hands ready, get your pants ready, because we're doing Thorgest. I have selected the first two. I'm coming to the carpoolers for the additionals. We are doing chicken pot pies. Again, I'm sorry. I think it's a good thing to have on hand. And we're also doing nap time chick nap time chicken nap time kitchens. Creamy chicken enchiladas. Okay, so those are the first two I would like to explore. I don't want another casserole based one because I think that was kind of like something that happened last year with August people didn't love. I want your best dump and go crock pot. I always see these people feel a night people fill a gallon bag with, like, chicken and sauce and put it in the freezer, and then they just like, thaw that out and put in the crock pot.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
If I would prefer it not to be chicken, because I feel like we already have two chickens, but I also feel like chicken's the best thing for those, so maybe that's just fine. Yeah.
Tyler
And like, also, I'm also not looking for just like a meat and a sauce because I can. I don't need to have that prepped. I can easily just do that.
Liz
Well, that's what I'm saying.
Tyler
So I want something like. I know, I know a lot of times they say, like, oh, let's not cut up an onion. Like, but let's chop an onion. Like, if we're gonna do the prep work and we're gonna get our kitchen messy to do the prep work, like, I'm okay with a little prep. So then it makes my life easier in the long term. So, like, I want. I want a little bit something a little bit more dramatic, but I would.
Liz
Love one of those. And then maybe like something else in the. Maybe it's just. Maybe it's just meatballs. Maybe it's breakfast sandwiches. So anyway, that's on the carpoolers. I've done my part. I've brought two, and I've given you two ideas. So now you guys gotta submit your racks.
Tyler
What should we do? Should we do it on a Facebook or email?
Liz
We could do it on the Facebook group.
Tyler
We could do it on the Facebook group. That's a good idea. We can all see them.
Liz
Yeah, that's a good idea.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
Anyway, get excited for Thorgus. Because I think it's actually going to be. I know we said last year that we want to do it around six season and I think I probably will maybe do another round of freezer meals around the holidays when I'm just like already cooking and making meals. I'll just double it and then throw it down there because the last couple of years, knock on wood, my family's been blessed to not be sick for the holidays.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
But then it's the January, February, that.
Tyler
Just kills us down, down for the count. Two months straight.
Liz
We had the flu last year, though, and it was some of the darkest days of my life. I told Elizabeth, I called Elizabeth multiple times and I said, I'll never be the same after this week.
Tyler
Yeah, it forever. It forever changed you. Yeah. So I do think, yeah, like, let's end the holiday. So let's get our kinks out now with August. Maybe we want to repeat these. Maybe we want to try something new come November. But. But while everyone's healthy and while we're trying to figure it out, we're going to, we're going to do well.
Liz
And it's good for back to school because I'm nervous about the back to school.
Tyler
Why?
Liz
Just because I think things are going to get crazy and like, we're going back to school. And then Hattie starts back up gymnastics. George is playing flag football. Like, so now two evenings are like, filled with things.
Tyler
You're. We're just in such different phases. I know you, you are going to have learned so much that you just get to pass your wisdom on to me. I'm so lucky.
Liz
You're so blessed.
Tyler
So blessed.
Liz
Okay, so anyway, let's do just the drive through.
Tyler
Oh, okay. Yeah. Just a drive through.
Liz
So speaking of my husband and his taste in music, another thing he. Another one of his fun quirks, quirks and features is. I've told you about his, I'll call it a theory on. He wants me to, like, use what's in the freezer, in order of which I find it.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Tyler's the kind of guy where it's like. And I stopped doing his laundry because I just couldn't keep up with it. Like, I couldn't come with his, like, rules and regulations. But, like, he wants you to hang his shirts a certain way. So like he wears the one that he hasn't worn in the least amount of time.
Tyler
Like how you stock like a grocery store. First in, first out, first in, last out.
Liz
And I'm just like. So sometimes we'll be getting Ready for like a fancy event. And he'll be like, well, this is the next shirt. And I'm like, well, that sure doesn't go with the vibe. He's like, well, it's the next one in there. And I'm like, I know you're gonna have stretch yourself and like you're gonna have to use like the one that's three. Never a dull moment with this man. You almost married eight years and wow. It's just. We're still learning. We're still learning. Okay, so anyway, I've. I've kind of told him, you know, I've kind of told him. I'm like, hey, you're ridiculous. Like, I'm sorry, I simply can't. Because then it would also was so annoying because it'd be like there was only one package of pork steak. So it's like I have to dig. One package of pork sticks won't feed our family. Yeah. So I have to dig for the other pork steaks. Yeah, I'm not making the two pores, two pork steaks, a ribeye steak and a roast. Because like those are the next three things I saw. I'm not doing this. But anyway, the other day he caught me down there, which was not good.
Tyler
Caught you red handed. He called me down through the meat.
Liz
He called me down there digging in the freezer and he was like, what are you doing? And I'm like, I'm looking for something. Like I'm looking for me to thought for the week. He's like, let's just use what's on top. And I'm like, these are like beef ribs. Like what are those called? These are beef short ribs, Tyler. Like those were like the two big package of beef short ribs on top. And I'm like, that's a winter dish. Like it's. You braise it. It's a wet. Like it's a red wine braised moment over mashed potatoes. Like that's a November meal. Like I. And I will cook those in November. Yeah, I just like to use what's on top. And I'm like, fine, fine, fine. So I took up these braised, these short ribs in July, thought them out in the freezer fridge for two days. I'm tick tocking recipes, which I have a whole. I'm loving using tick tock to find the recipes. I still like to go read a physical recipe. But I'm enjoying all these creators now making videos and I'm sorry, creators. I know it stretched you. I'm sorry. Like now you can't just be a blogger anymore. You have to be a video editor too. But I like to know what I'm getting. I like to see you make the dish. And then. Then I'll go to your website. I will. I'll go to your website and I'll follow it, and then you can get my ad dollars there. But you gotta hook me with a video. Yeah, I don't think that's asking too much.
Tyler
Totally.
Liz
So anyway, I found a short rib recipe and I made them, and they were excellent. I mean, excellent. Felt. Very impressive is what it felt. You know, there's. It's bone on, you know, so there's something about, like, you pull those out. I made mashed potatoes. I was gonna do a reel, but I didn't get it. It couldn't. Couldn't do it. All sauteed some green beans, and we had braised short ribs, mashed potatoes and green beans on a 99 day degree day in July.
Tyler
99 degree day. No, I mean, it sounds good. I. I agree. It sounds hot. But don't you think you could have done, like, something else with short ribs that, like. Like a fresh salad?
Liz
No, I think because you have a gravy with it, so.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
It, like, makes a gravy in the pot.
Tyler
Yeah. Okay, I got you, you know. Yeah.
Liz
And now I'm excited because now I can get. Finally get down to the rest of the burgers. Oh, goodness.
Tyler
You had to pass that level.
Liz
He's funny. He does keep things.
Tyler
He keeps things interesting.
Liz
He keeps things interesting. And I do. I like. It's been fun to stretch me, and that's why I've been really grateful to. I love that we're able to buy, like, buy the beef in bulk like that because you do get to experience all these different cuts. Like, remember when I did the country. The country fried steak?
Tyler
Yeah. And you know what? I don't have this system in my deep freeze. And I have three of those. What are they called? Cube steak. And I'm like, nah, I don't want to do it because I don't know how to do it, and I don't want to stretch myself.
Liz
Well, you just follow the pioneer woman's recipe.
Tyler
Was it hard?
Liz
Yeah. Yeah. I'll make them. Okay, come over, bring them over, and we'll make it a whole thing. Because they are really good. It's not really hard. It's just messy.
Tyler
Yeah, well. And it's kind of. I don't know. Maybe I'll feel more inspired when I'm not living in My parents basement.
Liz
Oh, for sure. No, now's not the time. Why don't you just bring them over, okay. And we'll make them together.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
You know what? We'll do it after we prep for August. Because, you know, at that point, like, if you're gonna fry something on the stove, like, let's go. Let's. Let's trash the kitchen. We're already here.
Tyler
Do we fry it on the stove or do we use the fryer?
Liz
No, you fry it on the stove.
Tyler
Okay, okay, Okay. I don't know the process because then.
Liz
You make a pan sauce with the gravy. Come on, Liz.
Tyler
Oh, Kelly, I've never done it.
Liz
I know. I'm telling you, I'm. It really has made me a better cook.
Tyler
Oh, no, I'm sure.
Liz
Now the next thing that's just really taken up a lot of room there. You know what it is? It's beef soup bones, which. I don't really know what those are.
Tyler
No, me neither. Wait, so was your digital drive through beef short ribs?
Liz
Yeah, it was. Okay. Because it actually was easy. So here's the thing. It's as easy as a roast. Like, but it's. Because basically, I guess it kind of tastes like a roast. But there was just something. It was even more tender, and it was like, really good flavor because the bones are still attached to it. And you let it go in the oven for three and a half hours, so. And it smelled great.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
So I'm just saying lock that away in the back of your mind because it would have hit on a November day.
Tyler
Yeah, for sure.
Liz
It would have hit for sure. But I mean, you know what? They ate all it. We had no leftovers.
Tyler
That feels good. Yeah, that feels good.
Liz
So.
Tyler
Okay, Kel, Well, I think it's time for something that we have not done in so long, which is industry news, where we spill the hot tea going on in the auto industry.
Liz
Yeah, for sure, for sure, for sure, for sure. And I have really good ones.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
Okay. First story is from car dealership Guy. Waymo will bring its robo taxi service to Dallas in 2026.
Tyler
Whoa.
Liz
Waymo plans to launch its robo taxi service in Dallas next year, partnering with Avis Budget Group to manage the fleet of autonomous Jaguar I Pace vehicles.
Tyler
Jaguars. Yeah.
Liz
That's what the Waymos are. You didn't know that?
Tyler
I don't. I don't think I realized that.
Liz
It said Waymo conducts over250,000 paid weekly trips across its current market and has driven over a hundred million autonomous Miles on public roads.
Tyler
Wow.
Liz
The company also plans to launch in Washington D.C. in Miami in 2026. Would you get in one? I know we've talked about this before.
Tyler
If short trip, not going on the highway. Sure. I dip my toe.
Liz
Yeah.
Tyler
I don't know.
Liz
Maybe I would do it. I want to hear from someone who's been in one. Let us know. Okay, next story. This is for Motor Trend. Mary Kay's pink Cadillac career cars have gotten a very modern update. Oh, I feel like we don't talk about this enough. If ever.
Tyler
No.
Liz
Mary Kay, one of the surviving. Like I don't. I, I guess. Is it still an MLM though?
Tyler
I have no idea.
Liz
Mary Kay though, it's one of those things that's like, they've really. It's worth being, it's worth studying because I still have very positive feelings towards Mary Kay.
Tyler
I guess I don't really know. What, what do they sell? Makeup.
Liz
Makeup? Yeah.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
I don't know makeup.
Tyler
I don't think I've ever tried any.
Liz
But I feel like every other you know, direct to consumer type company, like, you know, they're hot, they're it. Then like it kind of goes away. But I still, I have positive feelings about Pampered Chef and Mary Kay. I think they're both doing a good job.
Tyler
Okay. I found the article. You gotta keep reading because oh my gosh, it's so cute.
Liz
So you know they, but you know they have a pink Cadillac.
Tyler
I know they have a pink Cadillac.
Liz
Yeah, yeah. Okay. So anyway, they're doing, they're, they're doing a new one. The Mary Kay cosmetic company has been doling out branded company cars to its top performer sales people for decades. It is now though, going to be an electric car. An electric Cadillac.
Tyler
I love this color.
Liz
It's a pink Optic electric suv.
Tyler
It's icon. It's so cute.
Liz
It is cute. But it's interesting because this story says it might actually make the salespeople's lives harder if they cover vast territories. The Optic is an excellent luxury suv, but it happens to be electric. Recent Mary K cars have included the XT6, the XT5 and the XT5, which is 3, 0 and a 2 row SUV. But I think it's cute.
Tyler
I think it's cute. Why, why don't they just like make pink cars? Like why don't cars come in pink? It's really a nice color. This is like this pale pink.
Liz
This is a right pink. I agree. This is the right pink. And I could see like, why don't they?
Tyler
I don't.
Liz
It's because it's a male dominant industry. I'm telling you, there's something there.
Tyler
Well, they're always coming out. The colors come in phases, and they come in waves. And I could. I would like. I mean, I'd like to see it happen. A nice pale pink that almost reads, like, slightly white, you know, and it's just like a nice neutral, a baby pink.
Liz
They have blue. Everyone has a blue car.
Tyler
We. We have work to do in this industry.
Liz
What about, like, a smoky lilac?
Tyler
That would be beautiful.
Liz
That's what I'm saying. Like, couldn't you picture, like, a smoky lilac Volkswagen Atlas with light interior?
Tyler
Oh, my God. Gosh, that would be precious.
Liz
It would be precious. It had to be on the right car. Like, I think the big cars and, like, can we, like, they have red. I hate red cars. I know. That's such a hot take. I'm not the biggest red car girl. No.
Tyler
I'm not a very big red car girl either.
Liz
I just get tired of looking. I love blue cars.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
You know, now everyone's so harsh. Everyone's on their green grind right now. Like, everyone's coming out with some sort of alpine. Like, everyone's doing Alpine.
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Where is the pink and purple cars.
Tyler
Justice?
Liz
Like, you're telling me we couldn't have, like, a. Like a cute, like, Audi Q5 in a pale pink?
Tyler
Here's my credit card. Take it. Like, I'm. I'm. I'm there. I would love that. And why isn't it. Is it just because next time we.
Liz
Get in front of someone, let's ask.
Tyler
They think men won't drive it. Okay, then men have work to do.
Liz
Well, also, who buys more cars, men or women? Oh, wait, it's women. So that's interesting. I'm not saying it needs to take over. No.
Tyler
But the option should be there. It would be a showstopper, and it would make headlines.
Liz
Okay, speaking of headlines, our next story is so catty, I'm kind of obsessed. Okay, this is from Automotive News. A dealership took her car. She responded by taking their name. I'm like, what is this story? What is this story? I'm going to read it to you. After an Ohio dealership repossessed her car, Tia McCreary discovered a way to get them back. Take its name. In February 2024, Tia went to Taylor Kia of Lima to purchase a vehicle. She decided on a 2022 Kia K5. Then her car was repossessed by the dealership March 29, 2024, while she was at work, while evaluating her legal options, she discovered that the Ohio Secretary of State canceled the registration for the name Taylor Kia of Limo Lima after Taylor Automotive Group failed to submit a renewal application. The group operates seven dealerships in northeast Ohio, including three Kia dealerships, three Honda dealerships, and a Cadillac dealership. Tia registered Taylor Kia of Lima and her own name and sent a cease and desist to the group because the dealership name was now registered to her.
Tyler
It's giving Sierra Mist.
Liz
It's giving Sierra.
Tyler
Missed. Wow. And then what?
Liz
Yeah, that's all we have so far.
Tyler
Okay. But why did her car get repossessed?
Liz
Well, that's a good question.
Tyler
I feel like they don't just do that willy nilly for no reason.
Liz
Yeah, no, for sure. So, like, sure for sure. She probably didn't play it.
Tyler
Yeah. That's funny though. Always. You always have to renew.
Liz
Yeah. No one's responded for comments. It's not going. It's an ongoing court case.
Tyler
Okay, perfect.
Liz
But that was just kind of funny.
Tyler
No, it's kind of funny. I. I'm kind of. I kind of like to follow up on that.
Liz
Okay, our last story. Britney spears famous Mercedes CLK 350 is headed to auction. Britney Spears 2006 Mercedes is headed to auction at no reserve. And it's already creating waves. So this car is currently owned by. It's called Volo Museum. And they say that it's the most. It's one of the most documented celebrity cars of all time. Really?
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
And it's going for auction. You can Google it if you want. It's just, it's a. Basically it's a cute little black on black Mercedes convertible.
Tyler
Yeah, it's cute.
Liz
And it's headed to auction. And it was hers.
Tyler
Okay.
Liz
Yeah.
Tyler
Oh, it's got her little signature on it.
Liz
Auction starts August 1, no reserve. But like, I'm sure it's gonna go for a ton.
Tyler
This is so interesting.
Liz
Isn't that interesting?
Tyler
Yeah.
Liz
Weren't those good stories?
Tyler
Those were good stories. Thank you so much.
Liz
All over the place. They were so, like, girly. You know, we had Mary Kay, we had someone being catty. We had Britney Spears and we had it all. What else do you want?
Tyler
