And the stakes, well, they're very high. He's in Beijing. Air Force One touchdown. Earlier today the Chinese have rolled out the red carpet. The honor guard there has snapped to attention the world's two most powerful leaders. Isn't that the truth? Are going to sit down face to face Trump and Xi Jinping and whatever round this is in their various heavyweight bouts of diplomacy. You know, this is the first time an American president has set foot in China in about a decade. So this is a big moment in geopolitics for sure. Now I understand what the haters, the losers and the haters. I know what they're going to say about this. They're going to say this is a photo op. Trump's not going to get anything out of this. He's going to kowtow to them. MSNBC or Ms. Now actually as it is called. It's kind of funny, isn't it? They had to run away from their old brand, they destroyed it so much. But cnn, all of the New York Times gonna say that this is just more Trump weakness on display because he can't get China to do absolutely everything that he wants with the snap of a fingers. Look, this is the same group that as we know spent four years under Biden watching China buy up our farmland, flood our streets with fentanyl via the cartels. Of course, China providing the precursors, steal our tech and continue to threaten Taiwan while Biden mumbled and called Xi a good friend. Xi Jinping a good friend. Good friend. So we're back to America first now and we're back to the Trump agenda for this country. So this is not some ceremonial junket, despite what the anti Trump media is going to say. The crew that he brought with him, not the crew flying the plane, I mean the CEOs, we're talking Elon Musk, Tim Cook, Jensen Huang. These are really the most powerful CEOs, at least among the most powerful CEOs in the corporate world on earth. So this is about deals, this is about leverage. This is about raw American economic power. And Trump understands something that the foreign policy blob in D.C. doesn't. The Chinese Communist Party respects strength and despises weakness. They spent the last four years laughing at us while Biden's handlers let them dominate. Rare earth minerals, gut manufacturing here in this country in every turn. They could, and, of course, use the South China Sea like it's their own little personal bathtub. Not anymore. Trump, for example, on tariffs, has proven that his ideas work and they hurt the way they're supposed to. They get Beijing to sit up and pay attention. So let's take a look at this agenda. Trade is front and center, as it should be, because, yeah, we've got a big imbalance. China buys our soybeans and pork when it suits them, then hits us with retaliation the moment we push back. Trump is signaling big purchases. Boeing planes, American energy and agriculture. That's real money flowing back into here in America and in the heartland specifically. But he's not stopping there. He wants structural change. No more forced technology transfers, no more IP theft costing American companies hundreds of billions every year. Critical minerals. We can't let Beijing control the supply chain for everything from electronic vehicles to fighter jets. We got to put our foot down on this. Trump is going to hammer that home. I guarantee he'll get movement, because she knows the alternative is more tariffs, more decoupling, and more pain for Chinese exporters who have been getting away with all kinds of things, but not on Trump's watch. And then there's a couple of elephants in the room. Really? Two elephants in the room. Maybe we should say dragons in the room. We got, for one thing, the war in Iran, ok? The Strait of Hormuz. This is still a problem. We got shipping strangled, oil prices here at home through the roof. You know, China is one of the biggest buyers of Iranian crude, and Trump's not shy about wanting Xi to use Beijing's leverage to pressure Tehran to stand down. So he's going to Chinese saying, hey, you gotta tell the Iranians, back off and play by America's rules so that we'll continue buying your oil. But as we know, they've been playing both sides here. Funding proxies, buying discounted oil, looking for other ways while looking for the other way, rather, while Iran arms Houthis and Hezbollah. Trump's gonna make it clear, help us stabilize this or there's gonna be economic consequences. So that's one part piece of this. Now, I don't think he's gonna be able to leverage that much when it comes to Hormuz with China. I think China likes that we're ensnared in this and they View this as putting pressure on America here at home views it as specifically political pressure on Trump. But let's talk about the bigger picture for a second because this visit isn't just about today's headlines. There's the reality of Taiwan, my friends. It's on the table in a big way here. In fact, I'll get to Taiwan in just a second. That's big. Bigly in the discussions. There's a phrase the reason as good as gold exists because gold is one of the most valuable commodities you can earn. And when I say it grows in value over time, every year is different. Two years ago in 2024, grew by 27. Last year, the value of gold went up over 65%. Over the past two decades, gold has gone up 700%. It's proven to be a really good investment over the course of time. If you have an IRA or 401k, gold should be included in it. It's only going to grow higher in value in the face of continued inflation, a federal budget deficit and central banks worldwide are purchasing gold. Gold is a limited commodity and as other currencies get debased, gold continues to just go up over time. Birch Gold Group is the company I trust to buy gold from. That's who you should check out for your gold. Their customer service is second to none. Their ability to lay it out with all the options for you. I'm telling you, they're the best in the business. Now through May 29th, Birch Gold is giving first time gold buyers a rebate of up to $10,000 on qualifying purchases. For details and a free information kit on diversifying into gold, text my name. Buck to the number 9898. 98. That's 98. 98. 98. Birch Gold can help you convert an existing IRA or 401K into a tax sheltered IRA and physical gold tax. Buck to the number 9898. 98. See if you qualify for a first time gold buyer rebate up to $10,000. Text Buck to 98. 98. All right, let's talk Taiwan. You know, I was in Taiwan in September. I was there with my friend Steve Yates and we met with the president, the National Security advisor, the vice president, with everybody in Taiwan and they're obviously very concerned. We also met with TSMC and they were far more willing to speak with us about what they do and their strategic long term thinking than I had initially thought they would be, to be honest with you. So Taiwan is at the top of China's wish list. And what's going on here is they're hoping that they can use Taiwan as some kind of a. An inducement, or rather, they can use the economy as an inducement for us to get a little soft on the Taiwan issue because the CCP has been ramping up all the saber rattling. They're flying fighter jets around the gray zone. Incursions, they call them. That's when they put the jets into the airspace that is just right up, right up against Taiwanese airspace and violating their airspace. They're running reunification drills in the mainland. And Trump has taken some real action here. He's selling them the weapons the Taiwanese need to defend themselves. So he's not falling into just a strategic ambiguity. We don't do anything posture because America should stand with a democratic Taiwan. But here's the genius part. Trump doesn't telegraph weakness or escalation. He's just going to keep Xi guessing on this. Yeah, he's going to be praising Xi Jinping as a strong leader, but then the next minute, he's going to be reminding the world that Taiwan Semiconductor is building fabs in Arizona because we're not putting all of our chips literally in Beijing's basket. And the personal rapport that Trump builds is real. He and Xi have sat down before they know each other. There's a respect between these two titans, and there's a businessman aspect to Trump that I think Xi particularly respects. So there's more going on here than meets the eye with whatever the photo op will be. There's a lot more going on behind closed doors. And let's talk about the bigger picture. I mean, the CCP is the greatest strategic threat that we face. There's no question about that. You want to have seen this person who just said she's pleading guilty? Mayor of some town in California pleading guilty to acting as an agent of China. Guys, we are so penetrated by the Chinese Communist Party. Our elites have been bought off, sold, sold us out. It's a huge problem. And they're trying to build a military that will fully challenge us in the Pacific. And they want to use as much of our tech as possible against us. They're also behind the fentanyl precursors that flood across our border, which kill tens of thousands of Americans every year. And as we know, they're committing horrific human rights violations against the Uyghurs. They've crushed freedom in Hong Kong, and they're using TikTok to try to brainwash our kids here and there. So this isn't about being a competitor now. This is about being an adversary that wants to replace us as the world's dominant power. And this is why it's so important for Trump to get this right. And I think he really does have the right mindset about all of this. Now, I understand the arrival footage looks great. Chinese students are waving little American flags. The banquet set up, the Torah, the Temple of Heaven tour. There's pageantry, for sure. But Trump is playing chess. And he's looking at this, I think, long term. He is going to extract concessions that help American workers, American farmers and innovators. And I don't think Xi is going to be able to bully Trump around, and he knows that. Now, China is obviously not going to become some great, friendly nation to us in all of this, either. I mean, CCP runs a surveillance state that would make Orwell blush. They lie, they cheat, they steal whenever they can get away with it. But strength deters aggression. Peace through strength. That's Reagan. And you know what? That's Trump, too. And by showing up with the full weight of the American economy and military behind him, Trump is reminding Beijing the 21st century doesn't belong to them by default. It belongs to whoever fights for it. So, you know, the Democrats have nothing to offer on any of this other than Trump is bad, Trump is Hitler, Trump will never do anything that they like. But I think that we're likely to see Trump come away from this with some meaningful, some meaningful trade, if not concessions agreements. And there could be some reshaping of global, global trade here, some stabilization of the energy markets, and hopefully forestalling, deterring, perhaps even negating conflict in the Strait of Taiwan for years and years to come. It's not going to solve every problem, that's for sure, but it will be a guy who could give a master class on how to stare down the most powerful opponents in the world. And that's what Donald Trump does. So keep your eyes on this for the next 48 hours. Watch the joint statements, the purchase agreements. I think that will be big, quiet messages on Iran and Taiwan. And when the media tells you it's all failure or fascism or whatever, just remember, Donald Trump's there fighting for this country because he wants to, because he believes in America. He's done it before, and I think he's going to do it again over there. So we'll have more analysis on this for you as the. As the dust settles, of course, but here's our sponsor. Super. Sure. The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show
Episode: Buck Brief - Trump’s Huge Visit to China with Taiwan at Stake
Date: May 14, 2026
In this Buck Brief segment, Buck Sexton examines the significance and high stakes of former President Donald Trump’s current visit to China. The episode digs into the underlying geopolitical tensions, economic maneuvers, and particularly the U.S.–China dynamic around Taiwan. Sexton argues that Trump’s approach signals a return to “America First” diplomacy, focusing on leveraging U.S. economic strength and demanding concessions from Beijing on trade, technology, Iran, and Taiwan.

Summary Call to Action:
“Keep your eyes on this for the next 48 hours…Watch the joint statements, the purchase agreements…I think that will be big, quiet messages on Iran and Taiwan.” [15:40]
Sexton maintains a brisk, assertive, and sometimes sarcastic tone—especially towards the Biden administration and mainstream media critics. He repeatedly emphasizes the seriousness of the current moment, the gravity of U.S.–China competition, and the need for American strength and strategic clarity. Rather than mere partisanship, Sexton frames these issues as central to U.S. security and prosperity.
Buck Sexton’s briefing frames Trump’s China visit as far more than optics, emphasizing a hard-nosed return to economic and geopolitical bargaining, with the fate of Taiwan as a central concern. Sexton trusts Trump’s business acumen and “peace through strength” style to wring economic and strategic gains from Beijing, while warning listeners not to dismiss the visit as empty showmanship or succumb to media cynicism. The episode closes with a call to watch for substantive outcomes in trade and diplomacy in the coming days.
