The Monday edition of the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton show, also known as Clay and Buck. To many of you across this great land, a biggest story in the country by far, as I'm sure many of you know. If you were tuning in online or on TV or anything over the weekend, opening a newspaper, it is another fatal shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement. We will give you the details of this. Minnesota Minneapolis has become the front line, the battlefront when it comes to the Trump administration's immigration enforcement efforts. There is no other policy, initiative or action that is anywhere near as contentious right now and I would argue central to the success or failure of the second Trump administration there. Here. Clay, you just told me that moments ago President Trump shared that he had called Tim Walls. Why don't you tell us what the Trump. What the Trump. What the president also the Trump is telling everybody about that phone call.
Clay Travis
Just a few minutes ago, President Trump posted as follows. Governor Tim Walls called me with a request to work together with respect to Minnesota. It was a very good call and we actually seem to be on a similar wavelength. I told Governor Walls that I would have Tom Homan call him and that what we are looking for are any and all criminals that they have in their possession. The governor very respectfully understood that and I will be speaking to him in the near future. He was happy that Tom Holman was going to Minnesota, and so am I. We have had such tremendous success in Washington, D.C. memphis, Tennessee and New Orleans, Louisiana, and virtually every other place that we have touched. And even in Minnesota, crime is way down. And even in Minnesota, crime is way down. But both Governor Walz and I want to make it better. President Donald J. Trump so that Buck has come out in the last 10 or 15 minutes, seems to me that both Walls and Trump are trying to dial back the temperature a bit. I think is an easy way to read pretty transparently that statement and the phone call that they just had.
Buck Sexton
Well, that's certainly a different direction than Walz was heading in when he openly compared the ICE enforcement operations to the Nazi Gestapo hunting down Jewish men, women and children in the Netherlands, for example. Here he is talking about how we've all read Anne Frank. This is cut one. Someone's going to write an Anne Frank story about Minnesota. We have got children in Minnesota hiding in their houses, afraid to go outside. Many of us grew up reading that.
Clay Travis
Story of Anne Frank.
Buck Sexton
Somebody's going to write that children's story about Minnesota.
Clay Travis
And there's one person who can end this now. And I, I'll go back to it again. Please show some decency, pull these folks out, reset this situation and allow us to do the job that the Attorney.
Buck Sexton
General myself were elected to do, protect.
Clay Travis
The people of Minnesota and carry out.
Buck Sexton
The laws of Minnesota. He, he doesn't want to carry out the laws because he doesn't want federal law enforcement to do their job. He's still in America. Minneapolis, despite what they may think, very much falls under the jurisdiction of the United States federal government. Clay, comparing this or bringing up Anne Frank in this context is pretty horrific, reckless. But I think that the slander is the point. I think that inflaming this is exactly the idea.
Clay Travis
Look, we need to dive into the specifics on this and I'm actually curious for people out there that have worked in law enforcement that have analyzed these videos and everything else. But yeah, the Anne Frank analogy is absurd. The third day of the Battle of Gettysburg analysis from Tim Walls was awful. This is not a smart man who certainly is not very able to interact, I think in a dynamic, ever changing situation in an intelligent way. But let's go into.
Buck Sexton
Yeah, to take us through the play by play video here and the situation. Yeah, so.
Clay Travis
So first of all, I hate to be right, but you and I were entirely correct about this. The intent when you are showing up in the middle of ICE operations is to provoke, is to in some way create these situations, these shootings, these, these violent interactions and people out there who say, no, these are peaceful protesters. There's no intent. Back in July, Axios published a story that said the goal was to get people shot and try to create momentum politically against ICE itself. And so this individual, this 37 year old looking at the video and again, 800-282-2882. I'm not interested in casual observers, people who have been involved in shooting investigations and everything else. I watched this thing, Buck. I'm sure, as you did many, many different times from a variety of different angles, this guy was armed. What appears to happen to me is when he is disarmed, it looks to me like his weapon is then discharged in some form or fashion and then there is a panic and that this individual is shot. I think it's a tragic accident. And again, I think it's a direct result of both individuals engaging in behavior. All of these protesters who are trying to antagonize and create violent situations, violent interactions, and the ICE agents who are on edge because they're constantly being accosted by all of these protesters. And so unfortunately, this is the intent, this is the goal, this isn't a full on accident. This is what they want. They want violent confrontations. And much like the Renee Good situation and now this situation, it would have never occurred if protesters hadn't been showing up trying to obstruct ICE agents from being able to do their jobs. Now I think there should be a full investigation into the shooting to figure out whether or not it was a legally authorized shooting. I think ice, to be fair, the statement that this, this guy was a domestic terrorist or he was trying to mow down people, unless they have additional evidence, and maybe they do, I haven't seen anything to suggest that that is true. I don't think it's helpful to get way out narratively in advance of things that you can't prove. If I were, and I don't know if you would sign off on this or not, Buck, but if, if I were, I said this and I've said it for a long time, if I were advising my own kids, there's a difference between a right that you have and something that aids and increases risk. If I were advising my own kids and they were going to protest, I would say don't take a weapon. You may have the right to have a weapon, but I think if this guy hadn't been armed on that day, I don't think he would have been shot. I think the idea of taking the weapon to a protest is a poor choice in my opinion when it comes to safety. And I'm not saying it shouldn't be legal. I'm saying I think it aided in this situation, in the intensity of the response because they found the gun. And I think that led even more to them believing they were in under peril.
Buck Sexton
I mean, Clay, I could, every time I went out to walk the dog here in my neighborhood legally now in Florida, carry my short barrel AR with suppressor on it and sling it around my shoulder.
Clay Travis
I could.
Buck Sexton
Doesn't mean it's a good idea, right? I mean, you know, it's one thing if I'm going to the range or it's one thing if I'm defending myself or something, but I mean, if you're just doing it to do it. I know there's open carry advocates out there going to get mad at me for saying this, but because people don't do it around here, there's not a lot of hunting in Miami beach, okay? It's Not a good. Again, I'm not saying it should be illegal or legal or anything else. I'm just saying it's not a good idea. And carrying a firearm into a situation where. And this is where it really. I've been saying this, Clay. I put this on X. These are sabotage operations. These are not protests. They're not trying to convince the ICE officers or convince the American people via video of them shouting in the cold that these things that are going on are bad. They're trying to stop them from happening. They're trying to make it harder for law enforcement to do their jobs. Now, whether cops are arresting some, you know, maniac on the street who's shouting nonsense, or they're engaged in ICE enforcement operations, they have a lawful right to be able to conduct their duty without a mob forming right around them, without people, you know, getting in their face and shouting at them while they're doing their job. Like, you can't prevent people from enforcing a law because you don't like the law. And that's exactly what's going on here. And so if you're going to carry a firearm into a sabotage operation, you are being a moron. It was a very stupid thing to do. And if you're engaged in any kind of illegal activity, and I would argue that obstructing law enforcement, well, I mean, it is illegal. But I'm saying, it seems to me that that was the intent here. Remember, initially people were saying, oh, he had like, nothing. They always. There's always the initial report. It just happened to be passing through. No, he was part of this anti ICE operation. And anytime you are carrying a firearm on you, firearm on you, and you're dealing with law enforcement, Clay, there's heightened tension. I can tell you any concealed carry class worth, worth its salt, they'll tell you, you know, when you are get pulled over and you have a gun, even if it's totally legal and if you're a concealed carry permit holder or even if you don't need to have a concealed carry permit in your state, you want to be very calm and very easy and forthright with the officer about what's going on. Because the speed, the distance between I have a gun on my hip or in my, in my jacket or whatever it may be, and I'm shooting at somebody is about a second, maybe two seconds is a pretty good. I mean, that's, that's slow for like somebody who's really preparing. But the point is it's a very quick situation and cops have to worry about this stuff. Remember that, that guy that got pulled over, he had been like an Afghan interpreter in Afghanistan. There's video of this and the cops pulled him over. It went from this guy being belligerent to pulling his gun out, shooting, Shooting officer a number. I think he killed the officer. Shooting him a number of times at point blank range in a second.
Clay Travis
Yeah.
Buck Sexton
So yeah, you're going to carry a pistol. Why does he have a pistol on him to go into this situation. What is the point to go harass law enforcement with a gun on you? I mean, you know, if I. It's just, it's so, it's so belligerent and stupid and I'm sorry, this guy is dead. He did. You know, from everything we've seen so far, he, he certainly didn't deserve to lose his life in this process. But he made some very bad decisions. Now, it is possible that law enforcement here may have messed up. It's possible. I've seen this video. Looks like there's a discharge. If there's a discharge and people are even saying maybe the pistol discharged without. And now I'm not gonna get into pistol brands here.
Clay Travis
And this is a. No, no. But you're, you're a gun guy. How common do you think the gun just disc. On its own. An ad.
Buck Sexton
An accidental discharge on its own from a gun that hasn't been dropped.
Clay Travis
It was in the guy's hand at the time that it would have discharged.
Buck Sexton
Is what I'm saying. Doesn't happen. Basically doesn't happen. Now there are. Now this is a whole other thing. Please do not. I do not take it. I do not have. And I don't want. It's funny, usually you're worried about like defaming people. I don't want to defame a firearms brand here.
Clay Travis
Well, this is ironic. After your attack, your. Your vic attack on the old men and their guns. Oh, cold night.
Buck Sexton
No, I mean old men gun.
Public Investing Advertisement
That's fine.
Buck Sexton
That's just. Colt knows that. So that 1911 is an old man gun.
Clay Travis
But, you know, that's fine.
Buck Sexton
You can like your old man gun or not, but this is about a.
Clay Travis
Serious safety issue that is being argued.
Buck Sexton
About, you know, and many of you know what I'm talking about. It's a very, very well known fire manufacturer and there are a lot of people online, a lot of people in the community, the firearms community, 2A folks who believe very strongly that that gun can go off without. And this is. There are huge arguments about this. And I do not have a. I don't own that firearm. I actually don't own any firearms made by that company. And I don't take a position on it because I haven't done the testing myself. But that is being brought into this discussion too because I believe I have to check again. I believe that the firearm involved here is made by that company. But I'd have to make sure of that. Notice I'm speaking very cryptically because I, I don't. Clay, you watch the videos, you watch these things usually and everyone goes, oh, the gun just went off. Yeah, it just went off because somebody's finger got in the trigger and pulled it is what happened. They didn't realize it. Heat of the moment, they didn't think they did, but that's what happened.
Clay Travis
That, that is my concern here is that somebody, if I were sort of going back based on the evidence, I think that they found out the guy had a gun. They yelled gun. Somehow the firearm gets discharged. And, and then in the midst of the arrest some of those guys panic over the discharge again because they're, they're all of their alert sensitivities are on the utmost level given what they're dealing with on a day to day basis. And unlike in the Renee Good situation where I watched it and I thought, okay, this guy immediately had peril for his life and we analyzed the shooting and I feel confident that he's not going to face real charges. I don't feel the same way about this one based on just having looked at the, at the, at the evidence so far. So we will break all this down. Some of you out there are experts. You have dealt in situations such as these. If you are an expert, we would be curious to hear what you have to say. Talk back or 800-282-2288.
Buck Sexton
He was just to be clear, he was carrying the gun that people say has a history of this.
Clay Travis
I.
Buck Sexton
So this clay we could take a lot. A lot of people feel very passionately on this subject. But he was carrying the gun that has this reputation.
Clay Travis
And as we go to break, I mean here is the big picture. I do think this is important. Texas and Florida have had 10 times the arrest from ice. None of the protest. To your point, Buck, this is intentional. This is an adversarial opposition and obstruction that is intentional. And unfortunately this isn't a tragic accident. This is part of the intent of what they are attempting to do by opposing here. And ultimately the question is how do you get 10 million illegals plus out of the country? It's not going to be a pretty process. I mean, I think that's the challenge.
Buck Sexton

Terms welcome in our number two Clay Travis Buck Sexton Show Appreciate all of you hanging out with us. I know that many of you are dealing with the impact of this huge winter storm which is swept across the country. Half of all the homes in Nashville right now do not have power. I'm lucky enough to have power, but I've got a friend who is working in my home studio law school buddy whose family is without power as many people are. He just drove over to the house right now. Buck I 65 which is the main thoroughfare running through Nashville I believe in one direction is shut down because a semi truck took out a support structure for a sign that is over the top of the interstate. So roads are icy all over the place, Mississippi. A lot of people in Louisiana, hundreds of thousands of people are without power, frigid cold setting in. So if you have friends and family, hopefully you can reach out to them and be able to do the best for them. They shut down LaGuardia Airport yesterday. I think they shut down Logan Airport in Boston. They shut down Washington National Airport yesterday and over the weekend at some point in time. So it has been a major issue all over the country. And I know Ohio got massive amounts of snow. I'd like to thank our producers for the Clay and Buck show who moved into hotel rooms because traveling in New York City has been so difficult with the storm going on. So in addition to everything going on in Minneapolis, much of the country grappling with probably the worst winter storm that has existed in certainly many, many years. Okay, let's update you again. News President Trump says he has talked with Tim Walls, governor of Minnesota, and there has been an agreement to send Tom Homan in to help manage things going forward there. And so all of that is underway again with tons of issues all over the place having to do with with weather related conditions. A lot of you want to weigh in 800-282-2882 on the shooting that took place over the weekend in Minnesota. We have been taking calls and breaking down all that. BUCK I think one of the big stories that we haven't hit on. So we looked into the specific of this shooting. There's going to be, by the way, a White House press briefing coming up soon. We will be rolling on that. We may even go to it live because I'm sure there will be a lot of details surrounding all of that. The big picture question that I think is continuing here is what do you do going forward? Because look, Joe Biden let 10 million at least illegals into the country in four years. Tom Homan has told us that he believes there's 20 million illegals in the country. There are reports that maybe two and a half million roughly of those illegals were either deported by ICE or voluntarily left. Buck that's around 10%. I think what's going on here, if you want to, if you want to think big picture, is there's a quiet panic setting in in the Democrat Party over this is my theory. And some of you may or may not buy into this. I'm curious if you buy into it. Buck over the 2030 census that is coming up, the 2020 census, there's basically a recognition that there was to a large degree a failure of attribution of population, that red states were undercounted that cost us in the Electoral College, and that it was a major issue going forward in 2030, given the fact that the population of the illegal immigrants is declining. And remember, they count illegal immigrant populations for purposes of the House seats, which means even if they can't vote, they're still counted as part of the population. That's probably a net benefit of around 10, at least, maybe as many as 20 seats for Democrats in the House. Given that we're talking about a 50, 50 country, and it comes down to a few seats, who has control of the House. This is pretty seismic, pretty impactful. So I think what you're seeing here is actually a recognition that the 2030 census could basically wipe Democrats out of political power. And so they are fighting so hard to try to keep people in. In the country, because really, when you get down to it, all of these people in Minneapolis showing up to protest the deportation of people who should never be in the country in the first place is really kind of crazy. And so, as you break all of this down, I think that is the underlying aspect of why this battle is taking place. Does that make sense to you, Buck? Do you in some way share my just sort of disbelief that all these people are willing to show up unless you break it down in that manner? It doesn't make sense.
Buck Sexton
Yeah. Look, Clay, this is where the. This is where the Trump opposition was always going to consolidate. We said it after Trump won the election, right? You and I had a conversation. We could probably go find it pretty easily. You and I had a conversation. We were talking about what is going to be the next thing, because they've exhausted Russia collusion, they've exhausted prosecute Trump. All those things no longer have the resonance that they did. So now it's on deportations. And they understand that there'll be opportunities for the optics of this to look, you know, to look rough. I mean, the truth is law enforcement, and we have a lot of cops listening, current and former. Sometimes it's a rough business, because at the end of the day, I mean, this is why you see these videos where you had these guys who were like, I do not recognize your authority when they're in a car, and the cop is like, I'm telling you to give me your driver's license. I'm gonna pull you out of the car, you know, go through this whole thing. They're like, I do not recognize your authority. And eventually they break through the glass, they pull them, because if you don't grab someone and force them, then there's no law. Enforcement, this is what people need to understand. And if people are going to evade Immigration and Customs Enforcement and do everything they can to continue to violate our immigration laws, cops are going to find them, they're going to detain them and going to make them leave the country. And that's not going to be a pleasant thing. It's not going to be something that people feel really great about. But I'll tell you, I have a friend who used to do white collar defense. He's like, oh yeah, everyone thinks, you know, yeah, we got to get the Wall street fat cats. Until some guy is nailed for insider trading and his wife and his three kids are in the courtroom crying their eyes out when he's going to go to prison for four years or eight years or whatever it may be. It's not a nice thing. You know, this is a, at some level there has to be an understanding of what reality is if you're going to have law and order, which means that there have to be consequences. Now those consequences should be commensurate, right? I'm not saying, you know, pepper spray everybody in the face if they like run a stop sign. But, but there needs to be an understanding that you can't subvert an entire policy agenda just because you don't like it. And that's what's going on in Minneapolis. And it's a very obvious clay because it's not happening anywhere else. They've made a decision. And there's some interesting analyses out there. Some of them have gone viral on X of. You know, we have so much counterinsurgency knowledge both in this audience and more broadly across America because of all of our gwad veterans who really live this stuff over many tours in Iraq, many tours in Afghanistan, and they understand decentralized cells, they understand command and control nodes, ways of, you know, going for hearts and minds, forcing, overreach from all of these things. Now this is non lethal, well, non lethal so far on the part of the opposition and has resulted in some lethal encounters that they were hoping in my opinion to create. Unfortunately, they want there to be use of force that becomes lethal in the opposition to Trump. The people that are opposing what's going on in Minneapolis, because that's what really is, that really viscerally that really emotionally grabs people. So this is all, all in for the opposition. And I would just say yeah, I mean we need to adjust. Well, you're always adjusting tactics, tactics. You know, I'm not opposed to adjusting tactics if that makes it. But I am opposed to, we just need to kind of walk away from this enforcement operation because it's making people sad or it's looking rough or whatever. First of all, that's an abandonment of the rule of law. Second of all, does anyone think that that's not going to increase and encourage this in other cities? You think this is the only place where they have a Democrat governor and a Democrat mayor who working together with clearly Astroturf and well funded direct action elements, which is what they call them in the kind of black bloc street protest world. They can pull direct action elements together in any major Democrat city to do this stuff, Clay, and they will if this is successful. That's why we have to really stay the course.
Clay Travis
Well, look, there's also the reports out there that there is a massive signal chat, signal is in, you know, basically secured text message transmission site. It's a sort of easy way to communicate that's not as easy necessarily to, to, to hack as your iPhone may be or other text messages may be, that is directing people exactly where the ICE raids are going on and saying we need you to show up at this location. And it's being run by some of the top Democrat politicians in Minnesota. And I think what you were just pointing out is something that is very, very important. Ten times as many people have been arrested in Texas and Florida as have been arrested in Minnesota, yet we have seen zero protest because by and large the local police have been cooperating with ICE in those locations here. The local police have in many ways been engaging in direct obstruction themselves. Their reports that J.D. vance put out, that ICE agents were surrounded, asked for local police help and local police refused to respond to ICE requests for help. And so this is. They have decided the front lines of opposition to ice, they're trying to win this battle in Minneapolis because they believe if they win the battle in Minneapolis that they can then spread the same form of resistance to other locations. And unfortunately, two people are dead that would still be alive if they hadn't decided to show up and try to obstruct ICE activities. And again, go back and read what was said about this in July by Democrat officials. They said we need to get shot. We need to be in their faces actually opposing them. This wasn't a tragic accident. The larger picture was intentional to try to create a violent interaction. That's the goal. And so the actual specifics of this incident are unfortunate, but the, the, the method and process by which this situation was created was very, very intentional. It was not accidental. And I would just say to the extent that anybody's out there listening right now. You can be a second amendment believer and also believe, as Buck pointed out in the first hour, that doesn't mean you should take your gun. Every single place in a protest is not the best place, in my opinion, to be taking a gun when you're trying to get in the face of ICE officials. Because I really do believe this guy would still be alive if he had not had a gun on his person. He could have still been protesting. But I think that gun, when you see some of these details in the way it may be it discharged accidentally, maybe it put people in heightened states of fear. Once that occurred, it created this unfortunate outcome. And I think he'd be alive protesting still if he didn't have the gun.
Buck Sexton
Also, generally, one of the reasons why somebody would, and I do conceal carry, not as much as I probably should, but the reason why you will do that is to be able to defend yourself and others if you need to. If you're going to a place that's full of cops, what do you think you're defending yourself against? And then if you're going to a place that's full of cops and you're going to antagonize them, yes. What do you think you're defending yourself against? I mean, there's no question that what this guy did was stupid. The question is, what was the reaction? Was there a justified reaction from law enforcement here or not? Was it a tragic accident or not? Now, an accident can be something that is reasonable on the part of the officers, or rather, their response could be reasonable even if a mistake was made. And that may well be where this is going. But I totally agree with that officer, a former officer called in the last hour. We got to see all the tape. We got to see everything, because you have to be completely fair to these officers. And I was talking about reaction times. You know, you. You're talking about a. One second when someone gets their hand on a gun for you to make a decision. Now you hear a bullet go off, you. You think people might say, oh, well, the bullet went off. As far as they know, there could be another 14 or 15 rounds waiting to go off because the guy just shot off one. Maybe now he's gonna. You're gonna wait and see if he gets you get some people. I'm just saying, if you put yourself in the mindset of a cop who's wrestling with somebody who has a gun, who's causing problems, and a. And you hear a gun go off and you know you didn't shoot it and none of the other cops shot it. What are you gonna do? That's, that's where I think this is really gonna turn. But again, Clay, the really tragic thing here, other than this guy lost his life, obviously this is what they wanted.
Clay Travis
Yes.
Buck Sexton
They wanted a murky situation. They wanted to force. How many times a day are they harassing cops and doing all this stuff? They wanted a, you know, they wanted a cop to skid out in his car trying to go around one of these maniacs and hit someone on the street or they wanted there to be an accident. They wanted someone to get shot. They wanted this to happen.
Clay Travis
Yes. By the way, Caroline Levitt has begun a White House press briefing. We will monitor that, talking about the winter storm and the situation in Minneapolis. I'm sure that there will be a lot of fireworks. Probably some questions that we will play for you and statements. Just FYI, we are monitoring that in real time. They are covering it at Fox News and CNN, MSNBC, Ms. now, not covering it at all, as is typically their decision. Winter storm affecting tens of millions out over the Atlantic for the most part. But Baki, I got a bunch of messages from our listeners, including one. I want to pull this up and make sure that I get it right. That was super interesting that one of our, one of our listeners said, hey, I was unable to get in touch with my, with my daughter but for the fact that she was in.
Buck Sexton
She.
Clay Travis
Was in Oxford, Mississippi, where the ole misses where it has been really, really brutal in terms of the ice and all the loss of power. And he said the only way he could get in touch with his daughter was rapid radios. They had bought one of these just in case something awful happened, just in case there was some sort of calamity when it came to the weather. And he wanted to be able to get in touch with his daughter. And the only way he could get in touch with her, her cell phone wasn't working. Phones in the dorms were out, was rapid radios. And he sent me a message and said, thank you. This is exactly why we got them. And maybe some of you are thinking about that right now. Hundreds of thousands of homes in Nashville, my home city, out. Travis BUCK SEXTON SHOW Caroline Levitt conducting a White House press briefing as we are speaking to all of you. We've got a couple of cuts from her that we are going to be playing on this program shortly. But a lot of you wanting to weigh in from across the country over the shooting and the videos out there of the shooting as we are reacting to the situation in Minneapolis. Let's see. I actually want to go to a couple of different opinions. Go figure. Let's start with Mick in South Carolina. Mick, you say you are a use of force expert, former trooper. What was your take based on the evidence that you have seen?
Caller/Expert
Well, first, what I would say and you're an attorney, you know, the video doesn't tell the whole scenario. You have to look at all the evidence, the officer statements, the policies and procedures of the agents as well as you apply the federal law and then you render an opinion based on those facts. People jump to conclusions and it's an emotional situation. But when you look at it, just the video, yes, man had a firearm, apparently he was disarmed and apparently it appeared that the agents discharged after he.
Buck Sexton
Was.
Caller/Expert
Disarmed, not meaning he didn't have another firearm. But what you have to look at when you use deadly force, you have to say what was the threat at the time you instituted deadly force and you made that decision based on what that individual did for you to be in fear for your life to utilize deadly force. And was it objectively reasonable or was not? And why you look at the time the force was used based on what that individual did at the time the officer is discharged. And that's what needs to be looked at and analyzed and not just jump to conclusions based on the video because again, it does not tell the entire story.
Clay Travis
Thank you. Let's go to Rob in Roseville, Michigan. Firearms instructor Rob, you say for 50 plus years. What do you think based on the evidence that you have seen so far?
Caller/Expert
And I'm just, I just got home, so I'm going through this at very slow speed. There is a question whether or not he was disarmed as I'M looking at it right now, but it appears that he was disarmed before he was shot, which makes it really. I. A very questionable shooting.
Clay Travis
Now. Yes. Sorry to cut you off, but you would have to go into whether. Sorry, Rob. Whether the man who fired knew that he was disarmed. Because that's what we're talking about. Because if this firearm discharged and they say gun, he may or may not in that moment have been aware that this individual was. Was disarmed. Just kind of characterizing more of the details, but continue.
Caller/Expert
Of all the officers I've ever trained to shoot when you do something in a situation like that. Because I disarmed people before, and I'm not an officer, but I've trained a lot of officers, but I've been in a lot of stuff. I've been in my share of shooting situations. When I disarm somebody, I make sure everybody around me knows that I disarmed him.
Clay Travis
Yeah.
Buck Sexton
Okay.
Caller/Expert
No, I cannot envision this officer disarming him and not saying so. I still want to go through these videos at a quarter speed and see just exactly this officer that turns around that has the gun in his. That has a gun in his hand. Is that his gun or is that this man's gun? The other problem I have is that this man is on the ground with his hands under his head, even if he's got his gun on his side, which he has every right to have, period. That's the thing that officers don't understand. Just because you have a firearm does not make you a danger. Okay. Why was he shot if his hands weren't anywhere near his firearm? I mean, from the Daniel Shaver incident where they forced this man to get up and walk backwards on his knees while his legs were crossed, doing these circus tricks when all they had to do after they got him laid down at the end of the hall.
Buck Sexton
I just to jump in, I actually wrote years ago a piece that went viral on the Daniel. To me, the Daniel Shaver incident, I.
Clay Travis
Know it very well.
Buck Sexton
I went through all that video was. Was clearly a murder, and it's one.
Clay Travis
Of the worst officer shootings of all time.
Buck Sexton
It was charged as a murder, but the jury did not find him guilty of murder, which was absolutely appalling. But yeah, that video and the way that went down was. Was really haunting and horrible. Thank you for calling in. Look, I. I think that we're all pretty clear here that this is a. This is a to be determined fact still coming in situation on what went down here. We've Been talking about the lead up to it. It, the environment, the totally unnecessary reality of people doing this kind of stuff to ice. That's all clear. That's beyond dispute. What happened in this specific incident. We have to see all the body camera footage, see exactly what happened and get into some of this VIP email from Edward. He says, Guys, Navy Chief 5 deployment dirt sailor. What's a dirt sailor? I don't know what that is. Do you know what that is? I don't know what that is.
Caller/Expert
No.
Buck Sexton
I got in mind my Navy in laws are going to be like, what's wrong with you? How can you not know what a dirt sailor? Anyway, Clay said an officer possibly panicked. No, the officer reacted. Secondly, there's no such thing as an accidental discharge. Proper terminology is negligent. Negligent discharge chairs. Well, Mr. Edward, you are kind of correct and kind of not correct, actually what I was referring to, like for example, when I was on a rage and someone. Someone let one fly. That was a negligent discharge. Yes. If you pull the trigger, you're not supposed to. That's a negligent discharge. An accidental discharge. And you can even check the NRA terminology on this. They keep it a glossary of like, you know, gun terminology. Just to kind of have a one place, one stop shop. An accidental discharge would be something that for example, is a mechanical failure of the gun, not user error. Now it's very rare. It does happen. It is possible though, right? It is possible that there is a. And so the. It's a Sig 320. I'm just gonna. People have written about this now. It's a Sig 320 that the guy had, not the 365X which I actually used to own one, which is a great gun. I love it. I love a lot of SIG guns. The SIG 320 people get all uptight about whether or not it is. This is real or not. Does it have ads? But an accidental discharge, per the NRA terminology is a mechanical malfunction of the firearm itself, not due to user error. Is it a very, very rare phenomenon? Yes, but it does exist as a term. But negligent discharge is far more common. This is a little bit clear, like hang fire versus misfire.
Caller/Expert
Right?
Buck Sexton
Hang fire, misfire is bad. That's when you pull the trigger and nothing happens. But at least nothing happens. Hang fire is very dangerous on a range. It's when you pull and nothing happens and then it fires. Right. Which can also happen. And that's something where people sometimes Will pull and then they forget that they got a gun on their hands and you know, bad things happen. So yeah, the terms, we got a lot of terms here. VIP email from. What do you want? What do you want to do, Michelle? Those officers don't have the luxury of hindsight or slow motion replay. They can't wait to make a decision. Why is no one considering that? Well, Clay, I think we could tell Michelle, we very much are considering that.
Clay Travis
Yes.
Buck Sexton
I don't think we're Monday morning quarterbacking at all here. I think we're saying we got to get all the facts in and we, you know, we have to be just fair and accurate about the situation. The, the Renee, Renee Good thing was not. That was not complicated in terms of the officers acted lawfully based on the fact that she hit one with her car. You can't do that. You can't run a car. You can't run an officer over or attempt to run an officer over and expect that nothing's going to happen. This situation is. Is certainly less clear. And this could end up being a bad shoot or I don't know if we call it. The guy said clean shoot, clean versus.
Clay Travis
I mean I've always heard bad and good from a legal perspective and not that you want to shoot someone, but legally a good shoot is something that is legal. A bad shoot, that is something that's not legal. I mean lawful and unlawful.
Buck Sexton
Probably the most accurate way to describe it, you know.
Clay Travis
So, yeah, the way that I would analyze this is what Caroline Levitt just said. Question, does the president believe the killing was a mistake? Immediately after the Renee Good shooting, everybody lined up and said, and then the video comes out. And most people out there I think believe it's a tragedy but that the shooting was justified based on the behavior of Renee Good. The president said it. Here's cut 32. Caroline Levitt was just asked, does the president believe the killing was a mistake? Cut 32.
Public Investing Advertisement
Does the president believe that the killing though was a mistake?
Clay Travis
Has he expressed that at all?
Caroline Levitt
Again, the president has said, you know, we have to review it and there invest. This investigation needs to continue and he's letting the facts on the investigation lead itself.
Clay Travis
Okay, I think that's the right response from the president. Let the investigation take place. Here's Caroline Levitt buck as well, reminding Americans the reason why this entire situation exists, and I do think this is of paramount importance, is because Biden let so many illegals in during his term in office. Cut 31.
Caroline Levitt
Former President Joe Biden and the Democrats opened America's borders for four years, inviting tens of millions of illegal alien from all over the world to flood into our country. Among them, violent criminals who terrorized American communities and have inflicted devastating, permanent pain and harm on law abiding Americans and their families. Yet we never.
Buck Sexton
I think we lost it.
Clay Travis
I think we lost that cut as we were playing it. And we'll come back. We're monitoring in real time. I'm sending a bunch of clips as we are doing the show to our team to make sure that we've got all of the real time reactions, variety of different stories that are out there. Let's get this in. Jerry's been waiting for a minute. Jerry, St. Paul, Minnesota, what do you think of what's going on basically in the Twin Cities there?
Caller/Expert
It's a different world. It's, it's cold. But give your guy who manages your calls a raise because it's been a, he's got a difficult job.
Clay Travis
So Greg does a good job fielding as many calls as he can. A lot of passionate people calling in. Sometimes people aren't even very nice to Greg and they're just angry at either Buck or me. So remember, Greg didn't say it Buck or me. Who said Greg.
Buck Sexton
Part of Greg's job is it's always Greg's fault when people call in. That's right. It's not my fault or Clay's fault.
Caller/Expert
Well, I'm an extreme minority in the Twin Cities and both my wife and I are staunch Republicans and staunch Trump fans and all that. But I've got, I've got a warning to myself and to all of the gop. I've had dinners the last two Saturday nights with longtime friends who we'd probably call them old time, typical Democrats. They are so angry. You cannot argue. I use Caroline Levitt's conversation point. Well, let's go back to where this problem started from. It goes nowhere. You know, we, the GOP can be right on so many issues and the other side can be so vile. But it's like driving your car through an intersection. You can be right, but if you get plowed into by somebody, you could be right, but you could be dead right. And we, I'm very afraid, are in danger, the GOP of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. We should be winning this next election and man, we have to have a monster, monster, monster turnout because the other side is fired up and it's not good news for us.
Clay Travis
Thank you for the call. I do think politically they have been trying to turn Americans against ICE and against President Trump's deportation policy policies. Their big loser buck, as you well know, is on the border. And so this is why their goal has been to find someone who is a victim that they believe is innocent and turn it into the story as opposed to what's going on. I would also point this out. Minneapolis did not get super aggressive against ICE until all the fraud story came out and Tim Walls announced he wasn't going to run. And I do think there is an element of trying to turn the story away from the massive fraud, the Somali, all those issues into ICE is the bad guy. That seems quite intentional to me.
Buck Sexton
Oh, it's 100% a tip of the iceberg situation. There's so much more under there and they want to move away from it very quickly. One of the, one of the problems with financial frauds in general, Clay, they're time intensive. And so you need people who have the access and have the mandate to go in and to look at all the numbers and to pull the bank statements and everything else. If the people in charge don't want that to happen, guess what? It doesn't happen. So. And if there's no political pressure, if there's no outrage, all of a sudden, getting away with billions and billions of dollars of fraud doesn't seem all that complicated. All right. We have updates just happening moments ago from the White House about the situation in Minneapolis and other Trump administration on a whole range of issues. We will get into that, my friends. And you know what, actually, Clay, let's, let's just dive into some of this because the more we, we look at this, the more clear it is that this is the issue. This is the single most important fight right now in the country. And we mentioned that Tom Holman, who is the number two essentially on immigration enforcement issues, he's kind of, he's the czar, I think. I mean, I forget what his official government title is, but he's the implementations are for deportations. Kristi Noem sits atop the Department of Homeland Security, which is a massive umbrella agency, as you all know, with a lot of sub agencies. I can't even name all the sub agencies underneath it at this point. There's been some things moved around, but a reporter asked the press secretary, Caroline Levitt, about Holman, Tom Holman being sent to Minneapolis and what the situation is. Want to give you the latest. This was just moments ago. 37 play it. With regards to the deployment of Tom Holman to Minneapolis, should the deployment of Mr. Homan to Minneapolis be seen as a sign that the president is dissatisfied with how the officials on the ground had handled the incident?
Caroline Levitt
No. Mr. Holman is doing an exceptional job and he has been working with Secretary Noem and President Trump over the course of the last year. Secretary Noem still has the utmost confidence and trust of the president of the United States. And she's continuing to oversee the entire Department of Homeland Security and all of the immigration enforcement that's taking place across the whole entire country. Of course, Secretary Noem is also in charge of fema and we are in the wake of a brutal winter storm where hundreds of thousands of Americans have been impacted, impacted by that. So Secretary Borders, our Homan is in a unique position to drop everything and go to Minnesota to continue having these productive conversations with state and local officials. And I know that he's catching a plane in just a few hours to do just that at the, at the request of the President.
Buck Sexton
Clay Tom Holman is a border guy's border guy. He understands this issue backwards and forwards. I've known Tom for many years, talked to him, him in green rooms at Fox and here on this show and my previous show. And he's an encyclopedia of knowledge and has tremendous experience on immigration enforcement issues. He's also completely aligned with the President of the United States on this. I think they want to make this more of a sort of a competition or a feud between these two. What I see more here is, okay, things are heating up. Let's get more hands on deck. And I don't think you could have better hands on deck to help out than bringing border czar Tom Holman into, into the fray.
Clay Travis
Tom Holman got the Presidential Medal of Honor from Barack Obama. I know people forget that because now they're trying to turn him into an evil, awful villain. But, but he's been incredible on the border for a very long time. I mean the guy, if he wasn't so fired up to have the back of all the, all the border employees, if he wasn't doing, the guy probably works buck 16 hours a day and has every day since Trump got back into office. So we love Tom Holman. We've had him on the program a lot. I just saw him a couple of weeks ago in the White House and he said to tell everybody hi. And so we appreciate all the work that he has done. Now let's play a couple more of these cuts. The White House press briefing is over. I do think it's significant and I tweeted this, but this is where my quad box comes in handy. To their credit, CNN pretty much takes every White House press briefing. President Caroline Levitt, J.D. vance, whoever it is, obviously Fox News does. MSNBC almost never does. I know it's Ms. Now now and I think it's clearly because they don't want their audience to be able to hear any counter veiling narrative than what is being presented on their air. And so here are a couple of other different cuts. Caroline Levitt talking about President Trump's call with, with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Here it is, cut 34.
Caroline Levitt
President Trump spoke with Governor Walz directly this morning and he has outlined a clear and simple path to restoring law and order in Minnesota. Number one, Governor Waltz, Mayor Fry and all Democrat leaders should turn over all criminal illegal aliens currently incarcerated in their prisons and jails to federal authorities authorities Number two, state and local law enforcement must agree to turn over all illegal aliens who are arrested by local police. And then thirdly, local police must assist federal law enforcement in apprehending and detaining illegal aliens who are wanted for crimes, especially violent crimes. If Governor Walston Mayor Fry implement these common sense cooperative measures that I will add I have already already been implemented in nearly every single other state across the country. Customs and Border Patrol will not be needed to support ICE on the ground in Minnesota. ICE and local law enforcement can peacefully work together as they are effectively doing in so many other states in jurisdictions.
Clay Travis
Okay, and one more Buck that was discussing that phone call which we began the show talking about that President Trump and now Tim Walls have both commented on and Caroline Levitt pointed out something significant. Buck I got fired up over the weekend because the NBA decided that they couldn't play their game in Minneapolis because it wasn't safe. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild are able to play nine and a half miles away in another arena. University of Minnesota is able to play a game I think against Nebraska in basically the same area. And so it was a lot of posturing, a lot of left wing politicking. But I wanted to play this because everyone who is all worked up about what happened with the shooting on Saturday, almost none of the people that are fired up and they had a moment of silence at the Minnesota Timberwolves game for this guy, Caroline Levitt points out none of those people have said a word about all of the innocent people who have been killed by illegal immigrants. Listen to cut 36. This is really what all of this is about.
Caroline Levitt
Former President Joe Biden and the Democrats opened America's borders for four years, inviting tens of millions of illegal aliens from all over the world to flood into our country. Among them violent criminals who terrorized American communities and have inflicted devastating permanent pain and harm on law abiding Americans and their families. Yet we never saw outrage from Democrats or their allies in the liberal media over these horrifying crimes against US Citizens. The pain of American angel families was ignored and dismissed because it undermined the Democrat narrative. Innocent Americans like Jocelyn Nungray Lake and Riley and Rachel Morin are just a few of the many victims savagely murdered by illegal aliens.
Clay Travis
Criminals.
Caroline Levitt
Earlier this month, an illegal alien from Mexico with a long criminal history who came into our country under Joe Biden's administration threw a baseball sized stone at a school bus carrying children in New Jersey and fractured the skull of an eight year old innocent child. President Trump promised accountability to these American families by securing the border, deporting every illegal alien who has committed committed crimes, especially and most importantly, violent crime.
Clay Travis
Okay, Buck, I think this is so important. And the one thing I would suggest maybe the White House could message on this is I don't think it's coincidental. And I bet most of you out there listening do not consider it coincidental either, that last week it was announced that we hit a 125 year low in murders in this country. Not since 1900 have we seen a murder rate this low. Do you think maybe having a secure border and kicking tons of violent predators out of the country has done maybe a little bit to help make us all safer and drive down the murder rate overall? I think connecting these two is actually an important part of the message that the White House should be putting out there.
Buck Sexton
You know, it's also a virtuous cycle, Clay. You have, and this was true at the border, and it's true when you look at crime in major American cities, when you take more illegal alien criminals off the streets, you have a greater ability to focus your law enforcement resources on priority areas, priority threats. As in, you know, if you have. In a good sized American city, you may have 5,000 people in the whole city, and I'm talking about a city of a million people. You may have 5,000 people who are the ones that really do basically all the serious crime. And maybe the number's less than that, but if you take 500 of them off the streets, a thousand of them off the streets, it's just like anything else. Your resource allocation improves, your ability to deal with it is stronger. And also you're suffering less negative effects because you have a smaller criminal population. So doing all of these things, like I said, virtuous cycle results in more and more benefit as you go along. And so they have to continue to, I think, make this case very, very publicly. And Karen Levitt's doing an excellent job of it, that there are. That this has been building for a long time, that the Biden administration sold out our country, that our border was wide open, that criminal illegals came in large numbers. I mean, I mean, we could have a whole different conversation at some point, Clay. If we had gotten rid of every single wanted felon, illegal alien with a deportation order, if every single one of them was out of the country, deported after serving their sentence. Okay, well, then we'll talk about, you know, the optics of continued enforcement and where we should be. But this is like the most obvious stuff we're talking about here, here and yet they still want to stop it. They want to shut it down, which just tells you they truly are open borders. They just won't admit that that's what they want. It's just like they want the eradication of gender entirely. They just won't admit that. So they play all these games about gender identity and everything else.
Clay Travis
Yeah. And by the way, and we're. We have loaded lines, everybody is fired up, wants to talk about this in earnest. I just want to keep coming back to. This is a clear attempt in Minneapolis to distract from Somali fraud in Texas and Florida. They have arrested 10 times as many people for violating the law and deported them. And to my knowledge, Buck, have you seen one viral video from Florida or Texas of anybody refusing to cooperate with ice? I haven't. Most of the states and most of the cities in this country right now are doing their best to cooperate with ICE and get these people out of here. Minneapolis is not. And I think you have to ask yourself, why are they creating these conditions? It is, as we all told you. We told you this is going to happen. We've been saying, when I saw this story happen on Saturday, I just said, you know what? This doesn't surprise me. And unfortunately, you know what else is going to happen? One of these crazy left wingers going to kill an ICE agent. Maybe more than one ICE agent. You mentioned the Dallas, Texas example when it came to BLM, where the guy decided that police were the problem. What, did he kill five or six Dallas, Texas police officers? Five.
Buck Sexton
Five, I think it was. Yeah.
Clay Travis
Unfortunately, I think we are rapidly, rapidly speeding towards what feels to me an inevitability where innocent ICE agents are going to be killed because of this temperature rise when they're trying to do their job.
Buck Sexton
You and I know, and everyone with us right now knows that if that. God forbid, but if that were to happen, if there was even one ICE officer was murdered in some kind of an ambush by these lunatic street animals that are running around trying to stop this stuff. Blue sky, the Democrat online. Be one big celebration for them.
Clay Travis
One big.
Buck Sexton
They're disgraceful and you all know it. And you know how they would react to a law enforcement officer being killed in line of duty. That's where we are, unfortunately. And Tim Walls and all these others, they have pushed this stuff all along, and they. They absolutely have. Would have blood on their hands. And unfortunately, I think it's just a matter of time.
Clay Travis

Daily Review with Clay and Buck — Jan 26, 2026

Date: January 26, 2026
This episode delves into the fallout from a fatal shooting in Minneapolis involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a protest, situating the event amid ongoing national tensions over immigration policy, federal law enforcement, and political divides at both the state and federal levels. Clay and Buck analyze recent developments, reactions from political leaders, and broader ramifications, including the impact on public perceptions of ICE and ongoing battles over immigration enforcement and census politicization.
“We have had such tremendous success...crime is way down. But both Governor Walz and I want to make it better.”
“Comparing this or bringing up Anne Frank in this context is pretty horrific, reckless...the slander is the point.”
“This is the intent...They want violent confrontations. Much like the Renee Good situation and now this situation, it would have never occurred if protesters hadn't been showing up trying to obstruct ICE agents...”
“If you're going to carry a firearm into a sabotage operation, you are being a moron. It was a very stupid thing to do.”
“If I were advising my own kids… There’s a difference between a right that you have and something that aids and increases risk. If they were going to protest, I would say don’t take a weapon.”
“[An unintentional discharge] basically doesn’t happen...Usually, everyone goes, 'The gun just went off.' It just went off because somebody’s finger got in the trigger and pulled it.”
“Texas and Florida have had 10 times the arrest from ICE. None of the protest. This is intentional...this isn’t a tragic accident. This is part of the intent.”
“...given the fact that the population of the illegal immigrants is declining...That's probably a net benefit of around 10, at least, maybe as many as 20 seats for Democrats in the House.”
“You have to say what was the threat at the time you instituted deadly force and you made that decision based on what that individual did… at the time the officer discharged.”
“When I disarm somebody, I make sure everybody knows...Why was he shot if his hands weren't anywhere near his firearm?”
“...the pain of American angel families was ignored and dismissed because it undermined the Democrat narrative. Innocent Americans...are just a few of the many victims savagely murdered by illegal aliens.”
“I think connecting [declining murder rates and border enforcement] is actually an important part of the message that the White House should be putting out there.”
“Unfortunately, I think we are rapidly, rapidly speeding towards what feels to me an inevitability where innocent ICE agents are going to be killed because of this temperature rise...”
“There’d be one big celebration for them [far-left/protesters]...they would have blood on their hands.”

The discussion is passionate, direct, and occasionally confrontational, with a blend of analysis, personal perspective, and open lines for expert callers. There’s skepticism toward Democratic leaders and mainstream media, highlighting the ideological divide on law enforcement and immigration.
This episode offers a deep dive into the complex and emotionally charged aftermath of an ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis, placing the event in a broader context of partisan battles over immigration, law enforcement, and political strategy. Listeners are urged to consider the roles of intentional provocation, media framing, and the ultimate consequences for both law enforcement and the public—and are reminded of the need for full transparency and investigation before reaching final judgments.
