Houston is my pick. I think Duke's actually going to lose to St. John's this this upcoming Sweet 16 game, but both of our teams are still alive. Houston's got a tough matchup as well and we'll be taking a bunch of your calls. By the way, Steve Yates, good guest here because a lot of people have been saying what do I need to know about this Strait of Hormuz? It's in the news a lot. I understand a lot of you are having to learn a lot of geography here as the situation in Iran continues. We will discuss that with him. Plus, we just talked about this yesterday. Senator Marsha Blackburn is going to join us in the third hour. She was with President Trump in Memphis on his visit to that city where crime is plummeting. Also want to throw out the the phone number here for people who live in Memphis in the wake of the president's visit. I'm curious for all of you listening in Memphis, how much difference have you seen in Memphis since the President's surge happened? 800-282-2882. But I wanted to start with this. Linda in Memphis, Arizona, continues to dominate the news cycle. There are tons of stories about her this morning. As we were getting ready to come on the program, the Washington Post wanted to interview us. I had produced they, they want to interview Linda. So if she is listening right now, producer Greg is going to ask whether you want to be interviewed by the Washington Post. So for everybody out there who is calling, you never know when you might step in and become a major part of the national story. And Buck, I flew this morning out of Nashville, zero issues with the TSA there. Every time I go through the Nashville tsa, I meet listeners, I meet fans of the show. I love the Nashville airport and I love the TSA there. I appreciate everybody working. I'm going to be flying out this evening out of Jacksonville because I'm speaking at an event down here and then headed back home. And what I saw was things seemed to be moving and progressing well. It appears, Buck, that TSA agent presence has actually helped with a lot of call outs going on, a lot of sicknesses, a lot of people saying, hey, you know what, I've got to do another job. I've got to be able to make money. I've got childcare issues. I've got to make sure that I can pay my bills, which I totally understand, which is why this is so unfair. And I think that, that the TSA agents are in fact helping because wait times seem to be down based on what I have seen this morning in the wake of TSA agents being deployed to help then allow, as Linda argued and I think is happening, TSA agents to be reallocated because otherwise they don't have to watch in, you know, exits and entrances and all these different things at the airport. So we will see exactly how this plays out. But I did want to say this is a, I think a super cool example of President Trump paying attention and the relationship that he has with his voters. Yesterday I went on after we had this show, Buck, I Went on with our friend Will Kane. And, and I said this on our radio show as well. I said, hey, President Trump, I bet Linda, grandmother of five, mom of couple of kids. I said she's a big fan. I bet she would appreciate an autographed copy of the Trump was right about everything. Hat within an hour of me saying that President Trump's team had texted and they have signed. If you go on Twitter, you can see it. We'll share it from Clay and Buck if we haven't already. Linda has a personally signed President Trump hat that he signed for her yesterday on Air Force One that he is sending to us that we will then route to Linda as a thank you for being a supporter and helping to come up with a great idea. I know there's a lot of stories out there to me, Buck, as we just told the Washington Post. And you know, we all know how talking to media that doesn't love us often goes. So I have no idea how that story will turn out. But I actually think irrespective of what your opinion is of President Trump, the fact that he is able to see a good idea and act on it basically in the space of 72 hours is a warp speed response from government. I think Linda's idea was a good one. She put it out into the ecosystem. It did not exist before her call and shortly thereafter the President of the United States is acting on it. I don't know that there's any example of a president behaving this way where he listens to his voters and tries to respond and is willing to accept their good ideas that we have ever seen. I think it is a great story and if I were advising the White House, I would lean in on it. We're going to take great ideas no matter where they come from. You can be a Nobel prize winning economist economist or you can be a grandma of five good ideas or good ideas. We're going to try to move on them when we see them. And I think it's an incredible testament to him.

Clay Travis (9:47)

Well, that's the way that government should function. It goes back to Clay. What I was saying yesterday about how the simple genius of Trumpism is figure out the obvious thing to do to make it better and do that thing. And this now to be fair, this is not an obvious thing to make it better. This was, there was some artistry, there was some creative thinking in this one. But Trump is willing to do the thing that will work or do the thing that is a break from what everybody else in consistent failure has been offering as the only alternative or the best option or whatever it may be. So I'm very happy to see that this has been deployed. It is quite. It's classic, isn't it? I'm traveling for one day, and Clay and the audience decide to fix America in 24 hours. So well done. I knew. I knew the ship was in good hands. I knew with you at the con, things would. Would go. Would go smoothly, and in this case, better than smoothly, it looks like. May have really done an end run on the Democrats here, Clay. I still believe that, if nothing else, it'll help the lines a bit, which is good, but it also just shows the Democrats are causing this because there's no way, if Republicans were causing. Even if you're not paying attention to politics, if Republicans were causing the long TSA lines, now they're going to send ICE over instead of just having the TSA do their jobs and be. And be funded. Now, of course, this is Democrats, and it brings me back to counterinsurgency theory. Democrats are waging a political insurgency in an election year. Insurgents just have to make things bad. They have to make things dysfunctional, miserable, dangerous, whatever. And then they say, see, they can't protect you. They can't make it better. The people in charge are bad. The people in charge are the ones that are failing you, even though it's the insurgents that are blowing up the village and making sure that no one can get food. And. But they say, see, they can't make things better for you. Put us in charge and things will be fine. That's what Democrats are doing. They're political insurgents. They're making you miserable at the airport. They're slowing down travel. They're creating frustration because there's not enough frustration out there for them to capitalize on from bad Trump policy or bad prop. You know, they keep. They want the Iran war to be this huge cleavage in the, in the MAGA base. It's not all the polling. You know, are we taking irate calls about the Iran war? No, we're not. We're open to them. But people are saying, yeah, look, I trust Trump to play this out. I trust Trump to figure out the best way for the country to, to move forward on this. That seems like 80, 90% of Trump voters right now, which is pretty solid. So this is why they have to make the TSA thing a point of misery, because otherwise, economy's good, border secure. Trump is, is, you know, you got to let him cook on Iran. He's doing his thing. What else Are they going to point to.

Buck Sexton (12:47)

I, I think that's the other part of this is that's unfortunate. A lot of Democrats are trying, I've seen it, to say TSA failure is a function entirely of Trump and Republicans. And frankly, there's a lot of people who believe that because they are in such a sheltered media ecosystem that all they can think of is Orange man bad Buck. I had some fun with this. I posted this last night because I did think it was funny. The left wing out there is outraged by the idea that ICE agents wear masks. And their latest concern is what if ICE agents wear masks at the airport? The funniest thing about this, as you well know, is the people who are wearing masks at the airport still, after six years, are concerned that the ICE agents might be wearing masks at the airport. It wasn't very long ago, and I'm still radicalized and angry about it, that they were all lecturing us. Remember when they would say, buck, my mask protects you and your mask protects me. Which is why flight attendants were monitoring how long you sipped from a drink or chewed your peanuts. I guess they don't have peanuts anymore because of all the peanut allergies, your pretzels on the airplane and walking around and saying, excuse me, sir, excuse me, ma', am, you're keeping your mask down for too long. So if you truly believe that masks were important, shouldn't you be applauding the fact that the ICE agents were wearing their masks in the airport? Isn't wearing their masks keeping you safe? That is what they argued with us six years ago, and I'm still not going to forget it because they were such draconian, awful authoritarians for that entire process. And now many of them just want to pretend that it never happened.

It's also a perfect example of this tells you everything you need to know. If someone is currently walking through an airport anywhere in America wearing a cloth mask.

Buck Sexton (14:56)

Yep.

And they have an opinion of any kind on politics and they're, you know, they maybe just don't know anything and that's why they're wearing the mask. They could just be wildly ignorant of all things. That's possible. But if they have an opinion on, say, ice, 100% chance. Hundred percent chance that they are outraged about what happened in Minneapolis wearing a mask to protect you from germs, which does not work. It does not work.

Buck Sexton (15:22)

It never worked.

It's very obvious, people. What about surgeons? During. Yeah, cuz that they're up close and they have saliva and stuff could fall into the wound That's a different thing. But anyway, doesn't work, clay. And yet 100% chance that they're very upset about Trump. There is not a single Republican in America right now walking around, not a single Trump voter in an airport with a mask on who's like Covid is still real.

Buck Sexton (15:47)

That's right. That's 100% true. And so I do think it's funny that these are the people that are claimed to be the most outraged and upset and terrified of the fact that ICE is acting as they are in airports, which, by the way, doesn't mean that everything's going to get better. It's just kind of a bandage to help. And with the disaster that Democrats have created. And if you're standing in a line, and I know that some of you are, as you listen to us, you're headed into airports. Honestly, if I were thinking about Buck traveling to Houston, New Orleans, New York City, Atlanta, based on some of the information that I have seen over the past few years, I wouldn't go. If I had a trip scheduled right now to land at IAH in Houston and I knew I was going to have to fly back out, I would not go. If I were headed to Atlanta, I wouldn't go. If I were headed to New York City, I wouldn't go. I just, I'm not willing to stand in line for hours. There are very few trips that are so necessary to make that you're. That. That I would be willing to stand in line for hours to make them

Obviously we're loving calls these days because of all the attention on our great caller from last week. But Clay, I am seeing. I just saw this. The J photos. I'm assuming these are. You know, the great thing about Grok is you can kind of in real time check to make sure something and I have to do this these days I don't feel like an unk. I feel like I'm being thorough to make sure it's not AI because the AI is getting better and better on this stuff. But jfk, I've never seen delays like this before. I mean Democrats, this JFK airport, Democrats are snarling air travel in a way that. Can you remember seeing lines like this? I mean three hour, four hour TSA line.

I mean with the way that somebody's parent or grandparent is severely ill and or there's a funeral or a wedding, something that cannot be moved that you are trying to make it to with Zoom for business and everything else, I would just be like, hey, it's way more efficient. Is that what it is, three or four hours at JFK in the New York City area right now.

Yeah. Atlanta and Houston, they're saying arrive four hours early. No, my answer to that would just be I'm not going to your point unless it's a funeral or a wedding.

Funeral or it's a wedding. Or let's say you have an international flight and you've been planning for a long time like the idea of I'm going to go for a long weekend or I'm going to go to a sporting event or something like that, I would just say hey, I am out on this. And again, I think it's important here Democrats idea is just to make people as uncomfortable as possible and hope that this ends up being an issue for Republicans even though it's all being created by Democrats. Their voters don't know. And I think this is too, too fortunate, too unfortunate that that the media has done a bad job of explaining all this.

Welcome back in Clay Travis Buck Sexton show. Buck, we didn't talk about this yesterday but I do think it's a big story and I was reading a lot about it this morning. Yesterday there was a Supreme Court case on mail voting and when ballots have to arrive and there's been a huge discussion obviously about the Save America act and we have discussed it ad infinitum on this show. But I do think this case, which I believe the Supreme Court is likely to rule six to three On. Let me give you a little bit of a background and then let's. Let's maybe have a conversation about it, because I think it's one that is worthy of your knowledge and discussion out there in the larger audience. Mississippi had a rule, I believe that a ballot could arrive for up to five days after election day and still be counted. This is not a unique Mississippi law. There are many states, I believe 19 of them, that allow ballots to arrive for many days after election day and still be counted. And this could add up to hundreds of thousands of ballots out there. Buck, I'm going to give you my magic wand solution that I think there should be challenges on and I would actually be 100% in favor of. I'm curious what you think, given that we now have early voting. Almost every state in America has early voting. I don't think that absentee ballots, by and large, or mail voting should exist. In my home state of Tennessee, you can early vote for weeks and certainly you can still go on election day. In my ideal world, everyone should basically have to go vote in person now. Limited exemptions for soldiers that are overseas and don't have the ability to come back for people that might be overseas for a variety of reasons. That was basically the reason that absentee ballots existed in the past. They were very specific as to who could get them. And. And that has existed for decades and makes complete sense, this idea of, oh, I'm just too lazy and so I'm gonna get a mail ballot rather than actually go in person and vote. I don't think should exist. And we've got a clip on this. Alito is actually even more aggressive than this. I believe I am correct that New Hampshire is the only state in the nation that requires everybody to vote in person on election day. I think it's the only state in the nation that has that requirement. There is no mail invaliding. There's no excuses. Basically, you have to show up on election day and vote. Alito says based on the way Election day is defined in the Constitution, he actually thinks that should be the law for the nation. Listen to this.

Clay Travis (28:08)

We have lots of phrases that involve two words, the last of which, the second of which is day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, George Washington's birthday, Independence Day, birthday and Election Day. And they're all particular days. So if we start with that, if I have nothing more to look at than the phrase election day, I think this is the day in which everything is going to take place and. Or almost everything.

Buck Sexton (28:42)

So I think that's kind of an intriguing take. What do you think in general? The Supreme Court I believe is going to limit ballots and say if they're not in on election day as mail ballots, absentees, everything else, they don't count. I think that will help because I think a lot of people will say, well, I don't want to risk this now I'm going to go vote in person. What's your take on this in general?

Clay Travis (29:05)

Well, look, the mail in ballot thing is for me the single biggest opening for shenanigans because what it involves in many states as we know, is the sending out of live ballots. And remember, think about what Democrats want. Voter rolls that we know have lots of dead people, multiple counted people, you know, meaning that people are getting sent, they live in Arizona and they're getting ballots sent to Georgia. I mean things crazy stuff because people move, right? They don't want to clean up the voter rolls. So they want live ballots out there and they want them to be able to be in some cases collected by an legally collected now ballot harvesting. Some states it's illegal. Some states it's legal, but they want it to be legal to harvest those ballots. And I believe some states allow you to fill them out as well on behalf of somebody and then drop them in. This is an enormous. How would you ever be able if someone can lawfully, lawfully in a state, go to a nursing home and go in and say, hey everybody, do you mind if I help you this can I collect all your. And I'm going to just, I'm going to take all your ballots, I'm going to fill it out for you too. You know, all that stuff, right?

Buck Sexton (30:27)

Yes.

Clay Travis (30:28)

How could you ever prove you can't realistically that someone didn't just fill out 100 Democrat ballots and dump them in, dump them into the polling location. You're not going to have all taped conversations between this person again because you're allowed to collect them and you're allowed in some cases to fill them out, which is to me even crazier. But this is what Democrats want to continue. So the mail in balloting thing is nuts. The problem I think with election day, I agree with him in principle. But the problem that I think the Supreme Court runs into here is, you know, we also don't really want to have necessarily federalized elections. Right. We want states to have the ability to make decisions about how they're going to do it individually. So you got to have it one way or the other. Because if you have federalized elections, keep in mind the Democrats get into a place where they can decide, well, you're going to do it our way now, right? So this is, this is the, the push pull. I think that makes this a little complicated. But to me, what's at the core of the Supreme Court case, right, is can you count ballots after they come

Buck Sexton (31:32)

in after election after, after election day?

Clay Travis (31:34)

That is nuts. I mean, that is, that now you're just, you are begging for fraud that is unprovable and untraceable to, to give elections to people that didn't win. I mean that. And of course, what Democrats want, of course they want this.

Buck Sexton (31:49)

I actually, I understand the, the aspect of, hey, you don't want federalized control of elections. I also think that the whole purpose of state as laboratory examples is everybody can learn from best practices. Florida to me should be the standard nationwide. Florida was a disaster. I'm in Florida right now, Buck. You're in Florida right now. Everybody remembers the butterfly ballot, the hanging chads, the. All the different people who were holding up the individual ballots to determine, hey, was there a vote cast here or not? Are all over Palm Beach County. I think when you actually look at Florida now, look how great Florida is, Buck. Within three hours of the elections ending, Florida has posted every aspect of their election tally. Heck, we talked about it on the program during 2024. You can actually see who's turning out in Florida. Democrat, Republican, independent. And look at the early voting that is going on again. I understand the concept of mail in voting. Historically to me, the number of states that have early voting, I almost always early vote. If I don't early vote, it's just because I want the fun of going to vote on election day. I don't, I, I don't understand. We, we have made voting so easy that voting in person to me should be the default standard. Showing up with your id, proving that you are you. Everybody says, oh my goodness, this is so hard. They're lying. I just changed my address yesterday on the Tennessee registar website. Website, Buck, because we just moved recently selling our old home. It took me five minutes. I went in, I pulled out my, my license, I put in my info, I changed my address. I'm now registered, devoted the new place. This is not complicated. There are lots of things in life that are complicated and getting registered to vote and showing up with a driver's license to vote is not one of them. And I just think to me, requiring the votes be in by election day is the bare minimum of security that we should demand.

This to me falls into. States are supposed to under the Constitution. Right. The elections clause. They, they are supposed to

be able

to essentially set the polling places, the voting methods, the registration procedures, ballot design. Right. Things like that. But the Congress can also come in with something that is really necessary to effectively override them on this stuff. And you can't have votes counted after election day. Is a, is, is a thing that we should have that seems pretty straightforward and this is because it so clearly undermines the faith and integrity of the faith that people have in the integrity of these elections. So to me that's a, that's a straightforward one. Things can get a little bit tougher with, you know, we don't like mail in balloting, but to your point or as a general principle, we don't like mail in balloting. Florida has mail in balloting. So no, look, there are lots of states that do it. I just think if you asked me to wave a magic wand if the state of Tennessee came to me and they said clay, what are your opinions on how voting should take place in your state? I love early voting. I understand some people out there don't like it. I like giving people an option. I think it makes it easier. I think it limits crowds on election day. Give everybody the opportunity to come in for a couple of weeks in advance. You got kids, you got obligations, you got responsibilities. Maybe you're traveling, you can schedule when it makes sense to you. You don't have to necessarily go on voting day on election day. But I think we should limit overall mail ballots and look the reason Buck why we have the five day Mississippi law. How many times now do you, do you trust the postal service? I don't like there. How many times have you had. I'll tell you, I had a check just vanish like I mailed it going somewhere and somebody writes me back like three weeks later and they're like, I never got this and so I have to cancel a check. How often does that happen? It seems if you really want your vote to be counted, you should go in person, take your ID and do it. Because I don't trust that my ballot's going to get there in time even if I send it two weeks beforehand.

California has the most, no surprise here. States that broadly allow third party ballot collection include California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Arkansas and Florida have a strict limit of, I think it's two extra ballots. Illinois and Kansas have a limit of 10. Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota. So there's all, I mean there's more and more. There's all these different state by. This is why when people say, what about this state? Look, I don't. You can't. If you don't live in this state, it's tough to know all the different rules and all the 50 states at any given time because they also change them. But for California, for example, you can, you can have one person walk in and collect in a housing complex, 300 ballots.

And be in charge of all of them and draw. And that's completely legal. Completely.

This is why Democrats wanted Buck, because nursing homes, apartment buildings, public housing, a lot of them have one central location where mail comes in. And if you know the person who collects the mail, in theory, in theory, they could grab every ballot that comes into that place and they could fill them all out. Buck. The number of ballots in the 2024 election. People just don't want to talk about this. That only voted for president and only voted for Joe Biden. Go back and look at the tally on 2024. Look at how many people didn't vote in Senate, didn't vote in the House races. They just voted for president. Does that seem likely to you, that if you were an engaged voter, you would get your ballot? I'm not saying some people might not do it, but the number of people who just voted Biden versus the number of people who just voted Trump was off the charts. Right? I'm talking about the whole ballot. Why would that happen? Well, if you were trying to fill out as many ballots as you could, if you're going to have to answer 20 different elections, think about how long it takes you to fill all that out versus if you just vote for president. Overwhelmingly, Biden won the mail in ballots that only voted for president.

And if you want to see how these shenanigans can play out, I know a lot of you are immediately thinking, you mean like 20, 20. Of course. That's the big, that's the 800 pound gorilla in the room. Elections. Yeah, yeah, that's a big one. But go back and look at the Norm Coleman Al Franken Senate race in Minnesota some years ago. The disparity, I mean, the difference was hundreds. This is for a Senate seat, okay? It was hundreds of votes. And people were showing up like, oh, we look at this, 50 votes that were in the trunk for Al Franken, 50 votes in the trunk of some car that I guess we just found when they were doing the recount. You know, come on. Right?

And to your point, on five days or whatever, the math is on how long the ballot can get there, you can find out what the tallies are looking like and suddenly decide, hey, we got to get a thousand new votes in, we got to get 1500. And when you're talking about votes coming down to a few hundred, that's where you can really manufacture additional so I think the Supreme Court, to their credit, is going to come out and they're going to rule and say all ballots have to be received by election day. And I would just suggest to you, if you want a hundred percent for your vote to count, I would show up and vote in person. That's what I do. That's what I would encourage you guys to do. And look, I'm not saying some, some of you can't vote absentee mail ballots, all those other things, but if you are obsessed with your vote counting, I would go in person.
