My dad and I both have a CSP contract but staff can't check the fields to approve them for us to get paid. We're going through a very bad economic time. If we don't have the funds to support our conservation practices, we're going to see a major drop off in producers. I don't know guys, this is scary. I got a young family, a young business and have no idea what's going to happen.

He's heard on News Talk 11, 10 and 99.3 WBT in Charlotte, North Carolina. Please welcome Brett Winterbolt filling in for Clay and Buck. And it is a pleasure to be with each and every one of you. A very merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah. It is great to be behind this microphone and spending this much time with so many great people across. As Rush would famously say, the fruited plane. You know, one of the things that I'm looking at, and it is a pleasure to be with you because the politics of the day, the politics of the moment are really pointing in one particular direction. I don't know how many of you had an opportunity to, to sit back and to enjoy the TP USA coverage in between the professional football and the college football from over the last number of days. But if you look at the momentum, if you look at the energy, if you look at the, the likelihood of the direction in the world of politics, we are, we are seeing something very interesting. I'm old enough to remember, as cliche as that sounds, but I am old enough to remember when the Republicans or the conservatives or the people who are more affiliated with that sort of a mindset would sit back and say, well, you know, next man up, next man up's gotta be this guy. Next man up has gotta be that guy. We just, gosh, we, we just, we seem to have difficulties in recruiting great candidates. The, the table has completely flipped in this regard. If you look at what the Democratic Party, what the Democratic affiliations are doing, what they're looking at, what they're pushing, what they're talking about is it is literally the same thing that they have talked about since Bill Clinton was president, since Jimmy Carter was president, since all of those times. The thing that I think is so interesting is that the energy is with the youth and the youth is with freedom, not the pink o commie leftist sort of stuff that that's going on here. Like, if you go back, if you go back to the bad old days of the Biden administration and you saw all the stuff that Joe Biden Sort of threw out there on policy, right? We had transgender policy, we had sexuality policy. We had all of these things that were happening as part of the zeitgeist. But you know what else we saw over there? You saw the same old thing that had been utilized since 1933. And that's not a reference to, to Hitler or anything like that. It's a reference to FDR and spending, spending, spending. And what did you see? What was the signature thing that the former President Joe Biden did? Debt forgiveness. Remember those days, you folks that work for a living, you folks that, that didn't go to Georgetown, didn't go to Brown, didn't go to any of the elite institutions of the United States. You saw all of these people, the higher earning people who were getting bailed out for their underwater, you know, underwater basket weaving and for all the stuff that goes along with that. And it did nothing for the American zeitgeist. It did nothing for the American outlook. It did nothing. It was just another hookup. It was, let me give you more free stuff. Let me give you more free stuff like Solyndra. Let me give you solar panels, Let me get rid of gas, let me get rid of natural gas, let me get rid of nuclear. The energy right now in the economic agenda of the, of the Trump administration is full steam ahead, period. Because they understand in that administration, I've, I've been to that administration three times in the last year. They understand that it's now or never. It's now or never. And what you have on the other side with the left is a grouping of people who sit back and say, when am I going to get my dot, dot, dot, when am I going to get the hook up? What am I going to get the payoff? Where am I going to get in all of these things? And it's absolutely incredible to see that they're still buying into the 1933 agenda. Oh, it's, we, we're, we're in a, we're in a terrible plight. We have got to prime the pump a little more. Did you see the incredible inflation numbers coming down last week? It was so scary to Steve Leesman over on CNBC that he sat there saying, wait a minute, hold on. These numbers can't possibly be right. It says that the inflation is going down. Yes. The grand lesson of Ronald Reagan was do no harm. You know, the old, the old quip where they would say, I'm from the government, I'm here to help you. When you look at this and I listen to Clay and Buck every day when I, when I hear them breaking these stories down, I mean, it is, it is a remarkable thing to be alive and to be part of talk radio in this day and age. By the way, if you'd like to opine, we're certainly happy to have you here. 8002-8228-8280-0282-2882. So the economic picture, the challenges that we are, we are seeing that are slowly going away with an open border policy that is now done with a go get rid of the bad guys, which is working very, very well. Uh, you look at our positions around the world, the, the United States of America is respected more now than even, I would argue, during the original Trump administration itself. When you look at what is happening, when you look at the different approaches, when you look at all of this stuff, it is firing on all cylinders. And what are the cylinders? Economy, culture, faith and strength. You look at those four pillars of this administration, you look at this, the four pillars that are out there right now, you can conclude one thing that is not to be denied, there is not one particular person who is standing out on the left trying to sell you a plan that's going to work for you. And my gosh, I just saw in the last 25 minutes that they're not even talking about impeaching Trump at this stage of the game. That's a big deal. Now, they do have something going for them if you want to give them a little sliver of credit. They're, they're good with the radicalism, they're good with, with the crazy talk. They're great with recruiting socialists and communists. Mom dummy comes to mind. But you've got a whole bunch of foot soldiers that are now out in, in different blue cities and blue states that are looking to, to get them, get them to, to the, to the winning side. And the winning side is not those progressives, Communists, socialists, the allegiances that are happening there. Because what happened last week, when you look at what happened at Bondi beach, and when you look at what happened at Brown University, you see chaos at the highest levels of government and chaos at the highest levels of academia. People are happier now today than they were a year ago. People are happier here today than they were two years ago, three years ago, four years ago. And all it took was taking the boot off of the economy and letting it go. I've never understood why. The default position of the progressive left, of the commie left, of those sorts of folks, is that we must restrain innovation, we must restrain People choosing what they want to do with their lives. They're not smart enough to understand that. I would challenge the farmers in this country, the pipe fitters in this country, the labor groups in this country. I would challenge each and every one of them to say, you know what, we've had enough of regulation, we've had enough of government, we've had enough of that. And it's an old cliche saw. I know that for a fact. But what we're seeing happening right now in the American, in the American experiment is one half of the country has decided that the thing that was sent away with Donald Trump's presidency, right when, when he was coming into office, what, what you see on the left is, is hopelessness. Gavin Newsom's not even pulling 20%. AOC is actually somebody who is being looked at as a potential person to make a run for the office. They have no bench. And what bench they have is very radical and very scary to normal Americans. One of the things that I always love to do first thing in the morning is to go and put on C Span, right, and just listen to what people are saying in the country. What they're saying in the country is we are being heard for the first time. Now, you might not agree with the things that they're saying, but they're being heard that there is a way to stitch all this together and create something very different. And the youth vote is going to be incredibly important as these college kids come home, some cases having to deal with what just happened at Brown, but in other cases, they're coming home and they're starting to think for themselves. They're starting to say, listen, we have got to take an approach that is going to be better for us. Who is going to save us? Well, the answer to that question is you are going to save you and we are going to save you and we are going to save ourselves. And I know what you're thinking, boy, that sounds like a Kamala Harris word salad. No, it's not. It is not that at all. What we're seeing happening right now in this time is energy. Not the energy you put in your car, but the energy among the. The youth going back to Turning Point usa and, and the, the gathering yesterday. But, but also, obviously for the rest of the. For the rest of the days that. That ran up into that. J.D. vance came out last night and he said something that I thought was absolutely glowing and it was awesome. And it was his position on faith, the importance of. The importance of having faith in this country. Cut number one, J.D. vance on religious freedom at TP USA.
J.D. Vance
Even our famously American idea of religious liberty is a Christian concept. Because we're all creatures of God. We must respect each individual's pathway to that God. But over the last 50 years, there has been a singular focus, a war that has been waged on Christians and Christianity in the United States of America. And let me say, of all the wars that Donald Trump has ended, that is the one we're proudest of.
Brett Winterbolt
Now. Think about that for a second. Okay? Once upon a time, there was one of these things where people would hear that and they'd say, yeah, that's very. Yes, that's very. But we need the economy. But we need this, but we need that. Right now. You've got it firing on all cylinders. That is what is happening right now. When you, when you look at the, the approach that's being taken right now, you cannot survive if you sever it from faith, because how are you going to feel, how are you going to discern, how are you going to believe if they say, yeah, economy's great, don't talk about faith. It's written on your heart, it's written on your spirit. That's very clear to anybody who pays any attention, regardless of, of, of any of the faith tracts where people are spending time. And so in this season, Christmas, as we are about to conclude, Hanukkah, when you, when you think about all that is happening here, it is happening because it has gelled together. It has not been blown apart. I know there were some controversial things that were said at TP usa, and I'm well aware of that. But you should think about what we could be in right now had Trump not get elected, had Trump not do the one big beautiful bill, had Trump not get involved in these different sort of skirmishes around the world to try to bring about peace. This is a very interesting time. And I don't mean that in like a curse that comes about from, from the folks over on the Socialist Convention Center. Okay? I'm talking about these sorts of things that are hugely important when you take it in the aggregate. But. All right, what we're going to do is we're going to get a break in here real quick. And then I've got something else that you definitely want to hear. My name is Brett Waterbowl. It's a pleasure to be in for Clay and Buck today. 800-282-2882. Affecting farmers with conservation? I've saved my soil and I provide food for my community. I wouldn't have been able to do that without the NRCS programs A lot of farmers are thinking that they're not able to farm next year. Crop prices are below cost in production. And so these programs are what keep farmers in the business of farming, protect.

What's on your mind for Clam Buck.
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
Brett, nice job as a backup quarterback. The Ravens could have used you last night.
Brett Winterbolt
Thank you.
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
Hey, it's nice to see all the speeches on the Turning Point event, but I really think the Republicans have to start focusing heavily on the midterms. If they don't get that, then the president's a lame duck and it's going to be hard to push anything from then on. That's my point.
Brett Winterbolt
Okay, so let me ask you a very quick question. What is your number one priority? If I'm. If I'm letting you have a conversation with the President, what is your number one priority on the midterms?
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
Oh, pushing good candidates. Get out there and start getting people to vote. That's the number one party registration. Get people out there voting.
Brett Winterbolt
Have you ever thought about running? I'm not being a wise guy, but have you ever thought about getting involved like that?
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
I would love to in Massachusetts, but all nine districts up here.
Brett Winterbolt
Yeah, I got you. I got you. Okay, Very fair point. I hope you have a merry Christmas. Bill, thank you for calling in on the show, and I appreciate the back and forth. Yeah, great stuff from Bill. Let's go to Jerry in Florida. Jerry, welcome to the Clay and Buck show.
Caller (Listeners)
Yes, good morning.
Brett Winterbolt
I.
Caller (Listeners)
It appears to me that Trump is.
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
Doing the best job he possibly can under the circumstances.
Brett Winterbolt
The circumstances being that at least 90% of the Republicans are on the Democrat side and are against Trump and want to stop his policies every way they can. And that's because they're just as corrupt. And on the same grave train is the Democrats, starting with Thune, when he.
Caller (Listeners)
Makes sure that Trump can't get his.
Brett Winterbolt
People appointed while they're on break. So he calls them to session every day.
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
The blue slip is still going on.
Brett Winterbolt
They're doing. Republicans are doing everything possible to help the Democrats.
Caller (Listeners)
What are you going to do?
Brett Winterbolt
You're going to vote them all out?
Caller (Listeners)
I wish we could, but it doesn't.
Brett Winterbolt
Appear that that's the case or that's going to happen. Okay. All right. That's a fair. That's a fair point. Jerry, I appreciate you calling in on the program. And so I'm going to take what he just said. Said, and I'm going to apply something to it here. Okay. Mike, can I get cut number nine? This is something that everybody should listen to because the Democrats have been very effective in doing a little bit of. A little bit of sketchy play here. And this is cut number nine. Mike Lee on cloture and the magical 60 votes. Go.
Mike Lee
Friendly reminder. It doesn't take 60 votes to pass legislation in the Senate. It takes a simple majority. It takes 60 votes to force debate to come to a close. But there are other ways of getting to a final vote. A final vote cast at a simple majority in the Senate that don't involve cloture. All you have to do is keep debating until nobody shows up to debate or until everybody has exhausted their right to speak. They can only speak twice on the same discrete legislative proposal on the Senate floor during the same legislative day. The same legislative day can be kept open for days, weeks, even months if necessary. And it has in the past. There are other ways of getting there. We can't continue to see the 60 vote cloture standard as synonymous with what's required to pass a bill in the Senate. That's not how it works. It's not how it was designed. We could do better.
Brett Winterbolt
Okay, now that's an important point. Everybody thinks it's 60 votes, right? You got to get 60. You got to get 60. You Got to get 60. Well, first of all, number one, if the president wanted to, he could try to blow up the filibuster. I mean, he could get rid of it. If it feels like it's a desirous approach that you're going to be able to actually get enough stuff pushed through. You know, you could, you could probably try to do that, but nobody is talking about what Mike Lee says on this particular issue, which is, hey, you can only speak twice on that particular issue on a particular day. So what you do is you leave the, the debate open and exhaust these people, make them come in and actually do the stuff that's blocking the, the current policy. But let's go back to what we heard from Jerry there a second ago. They're all Democrat. All the Democrats and the Republicans are alike. That is absolutely not true. There are a number of people who are real pains. And the fact of the matter is, those folks don't want to play ball the way we would traditionally do it. Go back to World War II for a second. All right, you think about Winston Churchill, you think about fdr, you think about the French, you think about these allies that we had to work with. That's the problem. You have people that are too chicken to take the stand and to do what they want because the gravy train is very, very attractive to all of these people. And so when you look at what they're offering up, you have to actually just bring in more people who are going to come in and support you on that side. Now, how do you do it? Boy, I wish I had an answer. I don't know how you do it because you got to get in there and twist arms. You got to get the president to call them to the White House, sit them down there and tell them how they've got to do the things, things that are beneficial to the American people. Because as you heard from the first caller, they said, he said, listen, you got to get on the good foot to try to win this midterm. And if it's, if he's not going to win the midterms, then what's plan B? Let's go out to Kevin in Idaho. Kevin, welcome to the Clay and Buck Show. It's a pleasure to be with you.
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
Well, thank you for taking my call and thanks for keeping the ball rolling for us guys that are sitting in the pickup more than we're working too cold.
Brett Winterbolt
I gotcha.
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
But any. Anyway, the first, the program you said, you know, we've kind of been fighting this, this left ideology since 1933. FDR, it even goes further back than that. I think that it, once you study the Lincoln and assassination and the Reconstruction after the Civil War.
Brett Winterbolt
Yep.
Caller (Farmers/Listeners)
If that would have went a little bit different, we probably could have retarded the evil that were, you know, involved with now. But, you know, there's always going to be evil. So I don't want to say it was botched, but the reconstruction was botched after the Civil War. And so we've really been fighting it even since then. And if you want to get nerdy about it, you can go back to what George Washington and Thomas Jefferson thought of Alexander Hamilton. They didn't like him because there was that seed there of, you know, that no better way to put it, ideology.
Brett Winterbolt
But yeah, yeah. Well, he was, he was very much, he was very much somebody who wanted bigger government, big bigger in, you know, bigger institutions that were going to happen. I really appreciate the call. Thank you very much for the call. By the way, you know what's interesting on this occasion that he just talking about, you know, this day in 1864, General Sherman gave President Lincoln the city of Savannah for Christmas. I don't ever want to go back to the Civil War scenario or any of that sort of stuff. We have the ability to persuade more people than we have ever had in our human lifetime. And that's the important thing that we have to remember all the time. We can persuade people. Ronald Reagan was once upon a time a Democrat, and he chose not to be a Democrat. That's, that's One of the things that we've got to pay very close attention to, because when you sit back here and you say, all right, everything is going to pot, it's really not. It's just a matter of putting in the work to bring these people along. And that's. That's really the secret from. From all of this. Here, Spencer in Houston, line two. This is a really important point that he's going to make. Go ahead, Spencer.
Caller (Listeners)
Well, Brett, first, I remember you fondly from the Rush days. Anybody is in heaven with a spirit helping us save our country. It's Rush looking down on us.
Brett Winterbolt
Amen.
Caller (Listeners)
Yeah. Anyway, I'm 70 years old, and I have ancestors who were born in the 1880s, and I remember them. Wow. I looked at their diaries, and I'm going to tell you another story. And in their diaries and in the conversations, the idea that government would help these people run their lives was like a Martian coming down to speak to them. Right. Their moral compass was different than ours. And John, who said that our government was designed for a moral people, and this is what Donald Trump and Jamie Vance are fighting, that it is a moral spiritual war, that only that kind of people will embrace freedom. Others will be Mondani.
Brett Winterbolt
Look, that's. That is true. I will. I will grant that to you, absolutely, what you just said. But if you go and see what we heard from J.D. vance, and I want to. I want to leave you on the line, and I want to play this. Okay, Mike, this is going to be cut 11. This. This is important stuff. Listen to what J.D. vance said yesterday. Go.
J.D. Vance
And this is the moral truth we strive to center in our work in the Trump administration and in this great movement of ours. A true Christian politics. It cannot just be about the protection of the unborn or the promotion of the family. As important as those things absolutely are, it must be at the heart of our full understanding of government. Why do we penalize corporations that ship American jobs overseas? Because we believe in the inherent dignity of human work and every person who works a good job in this country. Why? Why have we worked without the help of Congress to restore, restrict H1B visas, for example? Because we believe it is wrong for companies to bypass American labor just to go for cheaper options in the third world. We help older Americans in retirement, including by ending taxes on Social Security, because we believe in honoring your father and mother rather than shipping all of their money off to Ukraine. We believe in taking care of the poor, which is why we have Medicaid, so that the least among us can afford their prescriptions or to take their kids to see a doctor. And it's why we are outraged at the injustice of Tim Waltz allowing Somalian immigrants to defraud that program to the tune of billions of dollars. It ought to go to Americans because that's who it's there for.
Brett Winterbolt
Now, I can tell you, that's the fight right there. Right? Am I, am I wrong or am I right? Spencer, you're right.
Caller (Listeners)
You're absolutely right. And can I tell you one thing really quick?
Brett Winterbolt
Go ahead.
Caller (Listeners)
One of my ancestors was born in 1889. His grandfather was born in 1797. I have breathed the same air with a man who breathed the same air with a man who was born when George Washington was alive.
Brett Winterbolt
That's amazing. That's amazing. That, that is amazing. And that's the unbroken heritage of people who believe in this country. Spencer, God bless you. Thank you so much for being on the show today. Check it in from, from, from Houston. I mean, it's, it's such an important point. We have an unbroken promise that, that we, we as, as the American people, have the ability to do anything that we want as long as we want to do it. And as long as, let's be honest, as long as it's moral, we should not be supporting immoral things. Right. And, and so when you, when you look at what's happening and I'm going to get into this in the next hour, I want to, I want to break this down for you guys. You look at what the president is doing in South America. You look at what the president is doing to try to stop the communist run that has, that has, you know, basically taken everything apart in that time and in that place. What we're seeing is something incredible. All right, I want to get a break in here. My name is Brett Waterbowl. I'm in for Clay and Buck. Farmer/Conservation Advocate
Affecting farmers with conservation? I've saved my soil and I provide food for my community. I wouldn't have been able to do that without the NRCS programs. A lot of farmers are thinking that they're not able to farm next year. Crop prices are below cost in production and so these programs are what keep farmers in the business of farming, protect.

It's Brent Waterville in for Clay and Buck. No place I'd rather be. 800282 282. And we have got incredible folks who are spending time with us here today, and we are inviting you to be a part of it as well. Let's jump out and see with Bill in Colorado on line one. Bill, welcome to the program.

Hey, Brent, how are you?

I'm doing well. Thanks for being.

I just wanted to say, you know, the left is really reporting on the feuding within the gop, and I would like to say that, you know, the feuding is healthy and it's actually allowed within gop. Aren't we the party of free speech?
Brett Winterbolt
Yes.
Caller (Listeners)
And I know any kind of feuding within the Democratic Party shut down immediately. I think what we see is actually what the party's supposed to be doing, arguing issues and arguing points. I may not agree with them all, but they're doing the right thing by having free speech.
Brett Winterbolt
It's very true. What. What if I were to say to you, what is your number one issue? If you. If you had the ability to, you know, put a. Put a wand over it, what. What would it be? What is your number one concern?
Caller (Listeners)
Right now, my concern is the cost of food, period. I go to the grocery store, and it just breaks my bank, and I would love to see food. And then after that, immigration, of course, that seems to be the heartbeat of America. But I'm tired of paying eight bucks a pound for ground beef.
Brett Winterbolt
Yeah. And they did. They have come out and said, like, why that's the case? Because we ended up with a bunch of infestation that took place. And unfortunately, that. That's. That's where things are going. But look, that is. That's a very important. That's. That's a kitchen table, literal kitchen table issue, as opposed to the missing chair and all the thing that Joe Biden used to talk about all the time that was nonsensical and throwing people out of the military. So thank you for the call, Bill. I appreciate that. Great take, and I hope you have a very merry Christmas. Let's go to Gene in beautiful Pennsylvania. Gene, welcome to the program. Hello. Hello.

Guest Host: Brett Winterble
Episode: Hour 1 – Faith, Freedom, and America’s Future
Date: December 22, 2025
In this energetic and impassioned hour, guest host Brett Winterble fills in for Clay and Buck, focusing on the changing tides in American politics and culture. The show explores themes of faith, traditional values, the evolving conservative movement, generational shifts, and the future of the Republican party as seen through recent political events and speeches at the Turning Point USA (TP USA) conference. Winterble fields calls from listeners around the country, discusses the influence of government and the moral compass of America, and weaves in the significance of community, responsibility, and optimism about America’s future.
"The energy is with the youth and the youth is with freedom, not the pink o commie leftist sort of stuff." — Brett Winterble (04:20)
“Even our famously American idea of religious liberty is a Christian concept. Because we're all creatures of God, we must respect each individual's pathway to that God. But over the last 50 years, there has been a singular focus, a war that has been waged on Christians… Of all the wars that Donald Trump has ended, that is the one we're proudest of.”
— J.D. Vance (15:35)
"Republicans have to start focusing heavily on the midterms. If they don't get that, then the president's a lame duck and it's going to be hard to push anything from then on." (23:51)
"It doesn't take 60 votes to pass legislation in the Senate. ... The 60 votes is to force debate to come to a close ... There are other ways of getting there." — Mike Lee (26:11)
"We have an unbroken promise that ... we as the American people, have the ability to do anything that we want as long as we want to do it."
“A true Christian politics... must be at the heart of our full understanding of government. ... We believe in the inherent dignity of human work and every person who works a good job in this country. … It ought to go to Americans because that's who it's there for.” (33:24)
On political momentum:
“There is not one particular person who is standing out on the left trying to sell you a plan that's going to work for you.” — Brett Winterble (10:55)
On government interference:
"I've never understood why. The default position of the progressive left … is that we must restrain innovation, we must restrain people choosing what they want to do with their lives." (13:05)
On moral heritage:
"Our government was designed for a moral people... it is a moral spiritual war, that only that kind of people will embrace freedom." — Caller Spencer (32:12)
Winterble brings a conversational, upbeat, and sometimes humorous style reminiscent of classic talk radio. Listeners and national figures are directly engaged, with an emphasis on faith, optimism, and a call to civic participation. While the episode is critical of progressive policies, it is at its heart a rallying call for renewed American values and forward-looking action.
This hour of The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show—hosted by Brett Winterble—delivers a passionate argument for a return to core American values of faith, freedom, and personal responsibility. Drawing on prominent conservative voices, listener participation, and historic reflection, it paints a picture of a movement growing in strength and optimism, rooted in moral and religious tradition, and optimistic about the American future.
