Hi, I'm Leah Palmieri.
Buck Sexton
And I'm Matt Stillo. And you might know us as the hosts of the hit iHeart podcast, Grown Up Stuff.
Leah Palmieri
So lately on the show, we've been crunching the numbers on tax season and we're learning a whole lot. For instance, Matt, did you know there are more than 33 million small businesses.
Buck Sexton
In the U.S. that is way more than I thought.
Leah Palmieri
Same. And do you know some of the top cities for small business growth in.
Buck Sexton
The US I actually don't know that one.
Leah Palmieri
Okay, I'm gonna tell you. We've got Scottsdale, Arizona, Atlanta, Georgia, Miami, Florida, Orlando, fl, and Austin, Texas.
Buck Sexton
Those are all over the country.
Leah Palmieri
That's why we've been talking with the tax experts at TurboTax Business about the tips and tricks small businesses should keep in mind when navigating tax season to file with confidence and hopefully save a few bucks.
Buck Sexton
Well, I can definitely tell you the more stuff I've learned about how taxes work, the more I think small businesses might want to leave it to the professionals this year.
Leah Palmieri
Yes, TurboTax Business has a fleet of experts, especially small business experts who can give you advice throughout the process or just handle the whole thing for you.
Buck Sexton
Expert help today by visiting turbotax.com business. All right, second hour of clay and Buck kicks off. Now we're joined by White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly. Anna, welcome to the program. Thanks for being here with us.
Anna Kelly
Thanks so much, Buck. I'm so excited to be here. And that's a great song you had on in the break, by the way. I really enjoyed that.
Buck Sexton
Well, thank you very much. We try to have the good tunes, the good tunes flowing. So a lot going on this week and, and a lot of back and forth already. Let's start with the economy tariff situation. What should everybody know? Because if you, you know, when I go to the gym, for example, they have these different channels on. They do have Fox on at the gym down here because I'm in South Florida. But a lot of like the financial channels and it almost feels like they want everybody to panic every time the president speaks the word tariff. What should everyone know about the plan here and where we're trying to go?
Anna Kelly
Yeah. So I will share. There are three goals for these tariffs. Right. Number one is restrictions. So we are helping our domestic industries by pushing these exports, making sure that American companies can send made in America goods all around the world, making sure we're getting revenue from the things we import. And then most importantly is reciprocity. So President Trump finally, after decades, not just the past four years, especially the past four years, but really decades of unfair trading practices that have long took advantage of American farmers and workers, President Trump is finally saying, look, American farmers, workers, manufacturers deserve a level playing field. So these tariffs are finally making sure that we are leveling the playing field, enacting the same tariffs that these countries around the world have imposed on us for years. This makes common sense. And it makes sure that American farmers and workers are able to send their goods around the world. And by the way, those revenues are paying dividends. We had 10,000 new manufacturing jobs last month. We have positive job growth in the private sector. That's what the American people want. That's what we want in this building, is a strong economy in the private sector that is benefiting from a level playing field.
Buck Sexton
Finally, what also is your, what is the feeling of the president and this White House on how to handle the slew of these judicial universal injunctions that have come down? I told everybody before you came on, Anna that the Biden administration had fewer of these against and it did some very unconstitutional and just aggressive and I would offer unlawful things the executive branch, but more in one month for Trump than three years of Biden. Is the strategy here just to take it to the Supreme Court? Does the White House say that there may be other options down the road? What should we know about this?
Anna Kelly
Well, yeah, here's what we know you're exactly right. There were 15 efforts in February alone by these activist judges to seize the president's power of specifically hiring and firing from the executive branch. We in this building believe, and I think the American people understand, that the president has the authority to exercise the power of the executive branch. That means hiring people, that means firing people, and ultimately that means delivering on the American people's mandate to eliminate wasteful spending, to shrink our federal workers and ultimately make our federal workforce more efficient. That is to the benefit of Americans across the country who benefit from federal services. So, yes, we have these activist judges enacting these 15 efforts to crample down on the president's authority. We believe that is unjust. We believe it is unconstitutional, and we will continue to fight back against our efforts to seize the the power of the President of the United States to run his own executive branch.
Buck Sexton
We're speaking to Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly. And CBS News reported this a day ago. Trump to invoke wartime Alien enemies Act of 1798 to carry out deportations to Guantanamo. What can you tell us about this?
Anna Kelly
Well, I won't get ahead of the president, Buck, but here's what I will say. I know there is a lot of talk in the mainstream media about suddenly they are concerned about mass deportation and the pace of that. Guess what? We actually just found out recently that Biden was fudging his numbers on these deportations. They were arresting aliens and then letting them back into our country. That is a universally unpopular policy. That is part of what helps propel President Trump to victory in November, because American people do not want these migrant criminals invading our country. Here's what we do know, Buck. We made it 32,000. Over 32,000 enforcement arrests in the first 50 days of the Trump administration. To put that in perspective, we made 33,000 I did at large arrests in the fiscal year 2024 alone. So I won't get ahead of the president's any specific policies that he plans to impose. But we know that the president is delivering on his promise to enact the largest mass deportation of migrant criminals in American history to stop the invasion. Because, by the way, 14,000 of those we've arrested so far convicted criminals. Almost 10,000 have pending criminal charges. So President Trump is doing what he promised. He is getting justice for innocent Americans like Lake and Riley, who, like Jocelyn Nungare, whose lives were brutally taken and unjustly taken by migrant criminals who should have never been in this country in the first place.
Buck Sexton
And I've seen some early data on this and it's actually, actually comes from the Mexican government side of the border. But we know that official numbers already for illegal migrant crossings are way down. I think 95% plus is where they are. But you know, in a way that shows that the president is keeping his promise to secure the border and also that the previous administration intentionally allowed the border to be wide open for anybody to cross over. And that thankfully has come to an end. Do we have data yet or can you tell us when we will though on the plummeting fentanyl seizures at the border as well? Because I know that there's. The government of Mexico has been claiming that fentanyl seizures are also way down on their end of things. Right. So do we have some data on, on the, the drug numbers coming down as well?
Anna Kelly
Well, so CBP Customs and Border Patrol regularly puts out these numbers. Unfortunately, I don't have them in front of me, but I, we'll be sure to follow up and make sure that you can share those with our listeners. But I will say, you know, the president has vastly different messaging to your point about encounters at the southern border. I remember, I'm sure you remember your listeners remember when migrants were coming into the border in early 2021 saying thank you Joe Biden for this open border for with a stroke of his pen on doing all of the border security measures that President Trump took in his first term. President Trump is finally sending the message to migrant criminals around the world saying do not come here. He is telling migrant criminals who already are in the country to self support, otherwise we will find you and we will deport you. The messaging is vastly different and I think that is why you see those vastly different numbers. And we're also holding countries like Mexico and Canada accountable for the influx of fentanyl that has come into our country killing Americans. That's part of the tariff goals as well. So all in all, President Trump is finally sending the message after four years of failure under Joe Biden that enough is enough. We will not accept these migrant criminals entering our country killing Americans. We also won't accept this influx of fentanyl that is also destroying families across the country.
Buck Sexton
Can you tell us about this new story? I think it was Politico that put it out initially about the clearing out of classified by USAID and also the status of the USAID building. I think you had to do a little cleanup on aisle fake news on that one for Politico and others. What actually happened there?
Anna Kelly
Yeah, so there was a. So as you know, I'm sure your listeners know uscid, that building is soon to be occupied by Customs and Border Patrol, thankfully. So the USAID employees were naturally clearing out the building, vacating the building and undergoing a very normal process to dispose of classified documents. And by the way, as I said in my X post, which I'm sure is what you're pointing out, many of these were courtesy copies. So that means these are documents that originated from other agencies and were sent to USAID by a courtesy. And by the way, I'll add, I want to shout out fake news. NBC, they actually reached out to me at 3:15 for their story on this published at 3:16. And then we had to clean up all this fake news that was spreading around and sowing chaos really across the country. But this was a totally normal process meant to dispose of class of copies of classified documents that already existed, by the way, electronically as well in secure computer systems. Total fake news outrage.
Buck Sexton
Do you feel like the media is trying to be a little bit less rabid in their anti Trumpism in terms of the media that's covering this White House day in and day out, have you started to see perhaps just an attempt to be more, if not even handed, at least more professional in how they approach this? Or are things still pretty rough for those who are clearly opposing the president with their coverage?
Anna Kelly
You know, Buck, I don't think they know what to do with themselves because we are having fun. Truly, we are winning every single day. And I think they do acknowledge the fact that President Trump not only won the election by a landslide, but he won the popular vote. He is implementing policies that the American people soundly support. And so they can try, they can push their fake news narratives, they can try and poke holes in what he's doing. But guess what? The approval is on our side. The American people overwhelmingly support his agenda. They see that he is delivering on the promises he made on the campaign trail to restore our economy, to secure the southern border, to restore our standing on the world stage. This is what the American people want. He is delivering on his promises. And I think the fake news don't know what to do with it.
Buck Sexton
It's remarkable. How is it to be right in the center of center of all the action here for a presidency that is already transformational? One month in, I know you're super busy and you say you're having fun. Must be exciting stuff.
Anna Kelly
It is so exciting. And again, we're winning every single day and we're having so much fun. The fake news don't know what? They, you know, they don't know how to cover it because they're not used to actually covering a president who actually does things every single day. He is signing more executive orders than any other president at this point in his first or his second term. He is delivering on the promises he made and it's really fun. I'm not sure if you knew this, but I was involved in the campaign as well, and so I was able to be part of all these promises being made. Watching the enthusiasm among all these Americans across the country who are so excited to finally see change after four years of failure. And it's extremely exciting to be part of the process in really helping correct all the mistakes over the past four years.
Buck Sexton
White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly come back again soon. Thank you so much for being here and keep up the great work.
Anna Kelly
Thanks so much. Talk soon.

There's a very telling video that's online, one you want to watch. I was there for the event to witness a prediction of what may come in the way of our financial markets. I want you to watch it this weekend, in fact, if you get the chance. While I might have helped to organize this online video event, it was actually my dad, Mason Sexton Senior who made the prediction regarding the financial markets. This is my father's area of expertise. I think you'll find it really interesting and possibly very beneficial. Growing up I grew up in a household where the stock market was a big deal because my dad worked in the markets for decades. He created a name for himself on Wall street by his forecast. The most notable one was calling the crash of 87. His predictions are too numerous to get into here, but he called the crash in 2009 as well. This is a guy who sees what's coming and you can still see his prediction, his forecast for the future. When you just go to this website, it's free to watch. Disruption2025.com Again, free to go watch the prediction and see if you want to take action based on it. Disruption2025.com paid for by Paradigm Press.

See if your company qualifies for this special offer@oracle.com clayandbuck that's oracle.com clayandbuck I think the left and the Democrats are having a tough time with this Trump administration and that's putting it mildly. They don't know what to do. They don't know who to turn to. They are floundering right now. Now they're having a tough one. And over on well, first of all, Chuck Schumer this Is cut six. Chuck Schumer called Republicans bastards. Really play six to have the conflict on the best ground. We have summed up in a sentence that they're making the middle class pay for tax cuts for billionaires. It's much, much better not to be in the middle of a shutdown, which. To divert people from the number one issue we have against these bastards, sorry, these people, which is not only all these cuts, but they're ruining democracy. I mean, do you hear this? He calls the bastards and then he says they're ruining democracy. What does that even mean? The Republicans are in charge because of our democratic process. I know we're a republic, not a democracy, but we have a democratic process. We have democratic elections within the republic. Right, so. Or, you know, democratic ideals that we espouse within the republic. The. This just doesn't make any sense. This is what I mean by their criticisms. It's not that I disagree with them. They are not even wrong. You know what I mean? There's something really off about them. I think that they're in something of an emotional tumult. Which brings me to Joy Behar, who is out there to tell everybody that it is the right. That is the right is a bunch of snowflakes. Play seven. He should have countered. The Pocahontas thing is just stupid. And by the way, there's such snowflakes on the right.
Anna Kelly
If you say anything about them, they're.
Buck Sexton
They're going up to the lawyers in two seconds, you know, but he can call people any names that he wants. Notice Joy Behar, not very smart, doesn't comprehend or chooses not to understand that it's. It's not that they can't call us names. They've been calling us names. The Democrats have been calling us names for ever. And, you know, names that are very mean, saying that we are sexist or racist or fascists or Nazis or any of these, you know, Republicans. Right. That's how they. That's what they call us. No, though they're allowed to do that. What they're not allowed to do is call somebody, like, call somebody, whether Donald Trump or anybody else a crime. Say that they've committed a crime that they have not committed. Right. That's. I think that's fair. And I think that that's why we have the laws we do about defamation, slander, libel, that you can be civilly held. Held in. Held responsible for this stuff. But she doesn't know the difference or doesn't care to know the difference. She's just bitter that they had to keep doing that. Wasn't it amazing for a while they had to keep doing the, the walk backs of the things that they had said on the View, like, you know, Donald Trump has not actually been proven guilty of. I think they had to do that with Matt Gaetz, too. You know, Matt Gaetz has not actually been charged or that's Matt Gaetz. Not only was he not guilty of any crime, never charged with any crime, and yet the things that the left was saying all the time, you know, that's, that's not a surprise. And, and then there's probably the most extreme version of Democrat despair, which is coming from Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who is out there telling everyone who will listen that Trump is in fact working toward a civil war. Play eight, this president is putting us in a position where hungry people are going to be on the street, where nonprofits who were waiting for their checks are not going to get them, where seniors waiting for their Social Security check will not get it, where poor families with children will not get what they believe the government has agreed to do. And so when that happens, what does Trump expect? Oh, I believe he expects violence. I believe he expects confrontation. I believe he's working toward a civil war. Working toward a civil war. You will notice something here, even including people like Schumer who have been in the game a long time at a high level of Democrat politics. These people are nuts. There's something really the elevator doesn't go to the top floor. There's a problem here. They can't just operate in the world that we're in, which is so far from Trump pushing anything toward a civil war. We're talking about cutting fraud in the government. We're talking about not allowing the continued invasion of our country across our southern border, safer straits for people, a booming economy, not getting into any wars. These are all objectively good things. They're objectively good aims that not only are helpful for Republicans, but for all Americans. And you could argue the second order effects of this would be good for the whole world, too. And Democrats are just completely freaked out about it. Still. They, they are, they have convinced themselves of the impossible, which is even though Trump is doing nothing but good things so far in office, he is still, he must be evil anyway. You can't give these people new evidence or new thinking. It, it doesn't, doesn't compute for them. We grew up all knowing what a walkie talkie was, right? It was a fun toy for some people, a helpful tool for others to use on the job. They help people stay connected on a campus, for instance, or at a sporting event or inside warehouses. So what do you call a walkie talkie like device that connects to cell phone towers and operates nationwide on an LTE network? Rapid Radios, which is the name of the company introducing these great products to all of you. Rapid radios are ready to work right out of the box. Just one touch of a button, you can connect with the person or up to 200 at a time depending on what you need. Walkie Talkies have batteries with a five day charge and they last when you need the Most. Go to rapidradios.com use code radio. All right, welcome back into Clay. Ann Buck. I had mentioned this in the discussion we had with the White House Deputy Press Secret Secretary Anna Kelly. There's all this reporting out there from various news outlets about Trump invoking the Alien enemies Act of 1798 to carry out deportations to Guantanamo. Let me read you a little bit of this because I read it and I say sounds like a great idea. This is from CBS News. President Trump is planning to invoke a wartime law known as the Alien enemies Act of 1798 as soon as Friday, meaning today to authorize the summary deportation of some migrants, including to Guantanamo Bay, escalating his government wide immigration crackdown. Multiple U.S. officials familiar with the plan told CBS News the 227 year old law gives presidents the extraordinary power to order the arrest, detention and deportation of non citizens who are 14 years or older and come from countries staging an invasion or predatory incursion of the US Mr. Trump is expected to cite the 18th century statute to order the swift detention and deportation of suspected members of the Trenda Aragua, a Venezuelan gang with prison origins that his administration has designated a foreign terrorist organization. Officials have made preparations to send suspected gang members to the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, soon after Mr. Trump invokes the Alien Enemies Act. At Mr. Trump's direction, officials have been detaining some migrants awaiting deportation at the naval base, though the holding facilities were left empty earlier this week. Okay. Those subject to the Alien Enemies act would not be allowed to have a court hearing or an Asylum interview as they would be processed under an emergency wartime authority, they would be eligible to be detained and deported with little to no due process under title 50. Sounds great to me. What's the problem? It's a presidential authority. Notice how they have to report this in such a way that this is on the books still. This is on the book still. The President still has this power. Now I want to compare the way that cbs, that's why I wanted to give you the background of that, but also the way CBS, this 18th century statute. Do you think CBS was doing that kind of massaging of the issue when they were using the Logan act as a pretext to go after General Flynn as the incoming Trump National Security adviser? No. Right. The Logan act was suddenly very important to all these anti Trump voices in the media. Oh, the Logan act, Meanwhile, in its 200 plus years of existence, it has never once been used to prosecute anybody successfully and put them in prison. I think there have been a couple of times it was even used to bring charges. No one ever convicted. The law is just kind of an old dusty law that no one takes seriously until you have to jam up somebody in Trump world. And then you pretend and then you're James Comey sank to Comey and you use it to spring a trap on the incoming national Security advisor. One of the dirtiest down low things, one of the worst things they did to Trump in that first administration, pretend it had the FBI director pretend that a phone call between the Russian ambassador and the incoming national security advisor for a new administration is some kind of huge national security concern. And he's running his own foreign policy when you look back at that. But Comey's a bad guy. He's just a bad guy. And I mean, I know that's not a surprise to you, you know that too. But who does that to be the FBI director and abuse your power in that way? Well, thankfully we've got Kash Patel as director and now Dan Bongino as Deputy Director and things are going to get cleaned up and be a whole lot better than they were. But the invoking of the Alien enemies Act of 1798, this will be interesting because it is on the books. The President has designated groups that are transnational narco terrorist organizations like Trenda, Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization. So if you are part of a foreign terrorist organization, if you were part of Al Qaeda, wouldn't you be able to be deported back to your country of origin under this law? I mean, it was used in the past. The government used it to surveil and detain Italian, German and Japanese immigrants in World War II. So the invocation to target migrants from countries with which US Is not actively at war is almost certain to face legal challenges. They're saying, okay, well, so that means that a terrorist entity operating in the US because we're not at war with the country that the terrorists are originating from, we can't send them back. We'll see how that one goes. I think you're certain to have some of these activist, anti Trump judges shut this down. If in fact they do this. I think they're going to do this. I think they're preparing to do this. I think that they're going to use the Guantanamo facility. And this is one of those things where they should just do it and do as much of it as they can. And you know, we start to get to this place where how long does the executive branch listen to one random federal judge somewhere in overriding policy? You'll note that Trump in the first administration, every time, even when it was the most obvious bad faith, judicial overreach, every time there was any kind of a challenge to the administration from a federal judge, you know what they did, you know what Trump did, the tyrant, the authoritarian Hitler, he said, okay, we'll see you in court. And that's what he completely abided by the system at every turn. Even when the other side was using the system in bad faith to just slow him down. They knew they were going to get overturned on a bunch of the things that they. And they did the so called Muslim ban, right? And then they, Trump ended up winning on that. Oh, he can't do that, wasn't a Muslim ban. But whatever. They, they just don't want him to be able to do anything. And that's the operating authority or that's the operating ideology. And they just abused their authority to that end. That is absolutely what we see happening here. So, yeah, the Alien enemies Act of 1798, I think this would be a strong move because you have to use the authorities that the government, that the executive branch already has to the absolute maximum. If you're going to wait around for Congress to work together on some of this stuff, it's never going to happen. And that's what Democrats want. They want the continued destruction, the erosion and eventual destruction of our national sovereignty through endless violations of our borders, endless violations of our immigration laws. And they don't want to protect the American people and American citizens specifically from the predations of groups like MS.13 and trend. They won't do it. It's in their power to do it. Just like it was in Joe Biden's power to shut down crossings at the border. Obviously. Cuz Donald Trump has done it. But Biden wouldn't use the authority that he had. Right. It's, it's a bit like if you have a sheriff in your town and the sheriff, you know, has the right to arrest people for whatever it may be. If a sheriff just chooses not to arrest anybody, you don't need a new law, you just need a new sheriff. Well, there's a new sheriff in town now. His name is Donald Trump. Also want to get to the situation in NATO here for a moment because the, the, if the Russia, Ukraine war is able to be brought to a ceasefire by Donald Trump, honestly, anytime in his first year, and I mean, maybe even in his first six months in office, it'll feel almost like a miracle because there was nothing, there was not even any movement toward this when Biden was in office. So you will watch, you will see this. I want you to pay close attention to the coverage of this at every step. Because ending a war and saving a lot of lives in the process, as I have said to you, should be something that everyone is on board for. Every American should be on board for that. Right? But no, maybe not. Because, you know, we have to see about the territory that is going to end up in which side's hands. And Slava Ukrainian all this stuff. Mm. It's really just about they don't want Trump to have the win, as you know. They don't want Donald Trump to be in a position where he can say, hey, not only am I setting up a booming economy and securing the border, I'm ending wars that Democrats blundered our ally into with Ukraine or at least were unable to stop our ally from getting pulled into. And beyond that, they really just want to make sure that Donald Trump doesn't get the W. That's it. Everything is just about stopping him on NATO. You'll notice that there are a lot of people who think themselves really erudite on the issue of national security, you know, foreign policy. And they always say that Trump is so, so destructive to NATO. This has been a thing that has been said about him the whole time. Well, no, maybe he just sees a system that isn't operating the way that it should, and he sees member countries that aren't taking the actions that they have agreed to take to uphold their end of the bargain. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had this to say. This is cut four about what Donald Trump has been able to do in just the last few weeks. Listen in, I must say swim 45, you basically, you originated the fact that in Europe, you know spending, when you take IT to aggregate 700 billion more in defence than when you came in office in 2016 and 2017. But that was slim 45. But then when you look at slim 47, going to be hard to tell what happened. The last couple of weeks is really staggering. The Europeans committing to a package of 800 billion defense spending. The Germans now potentially up to half a trillion extra in defense spending. And then of course, you had Keir Starmer here, the British Prime Minister and others all committing to much higher defense spending. We're not there. You need to do more. But I really want to work together with you in a run up to the summit to make sure that you will have a NATO which is really invigorated under your leadership. Notice you're not hearing a lot of this in the commentary circles, the New York Times, Washington Post, all the rest of it. Donald Trump in a matter of weeks has helped bring together an $800 billion defense spending commitment from the, from NATO partners in the European Union, from our European partners in NATO. $800 billion that wasn't going to get spent. Now it's getting spent. He's saying, look, you got to up your spending. It doesn't make Trump a bad guy or Putin's puppet or any of this stuff for him to say that. The Europeans are allies who have promised to have sufficient spending for their own defense. Stop freeloading off of America, stop saying America, protect us from Russia and do it themselves. Get ready to do it themselves more and more. That is absolutely what should be happening here. You know, if they want to just fund their bloated welfare states, they can do that on somebody else's dime, providing their defense umbrella for them. Okay? They have to step up. He's right. And Trump even said this, he's, look, he wants us for NATO to matter. It has to be strong. NATO can't be, oh, we can't do anything without America because then it's not an alliance, then it's a dependency. This is cut three. Play it. You have to keep NATO strong. You have to keep it relevant. But the biggest thing we have to worry about right now is what's going on right now. I think the rest is going to take care of itself. I don't see this. This was a fluke. This was something that if we had a competent president, it would not have happened. The man was grossly incompetent. Yeah, NATO has to be strong, and Biden was grossly incompetent. It. And he just would glad hand and have that stupid grin and act like he has some foreign policy knowledge that we all needed, that needed to be imparted upon all of us or something. Joe Biden is an absolute clown, and that's before the dementia kicked in. And his entire record on foreign policy and his record vis a vis our allies, they always say that our allies are so worried about Trump. And then you actually get to sit and talk to some of the allies. They go, no, he's right. We do need European nations to be more capable of defending themselves. The notion that, oh, if we don't keep backing Ukraine forever, Russia is going to roll over all of the. All of the European countries militarily. It's going to roll tanks through Germany and Poland, and that's one insane. It's not going to happen. But two, if that were true, you know what should happen? Europe should get its act together and be able to stop Russia from doing that. They've got hundreds of millions more people and a heck of a lot more money. So, you know, it shouldn't all fall on us. This is just Trump applying common sense to big problems in the world, and it's not common. If you hear the DC commentary, it's crazy stuff. Okay, look, for a lot of people, the end of the week is a time to celebrate with a great meal. You know what I had last night? True story. Carrie and I actually had burger night here. Podcast Summary: The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show
Episode: Hour 2 - Anna Kelly, WH Deputy Press Secretary
Release Date: March 14, 2025
In this engaging episode of The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show, hosts Clay Travis and Buck Sexton are joined by Anna Kelly, the White House Deputy Press Secretary. The conversation delves into several pressing topics, including economic tariffs, judicial challenges to presidential authority, immigration policies, and media portrayals of the Trump administration. Kelly provides insightful explanations and defenses of the administration's strategies while addressing criticisms from various fronts.
Key Discussion:
Clay and Buck initiate the conversation by addressing the current tariffs and their impact on the economy. They express concerns about the constant media focus on tariffs, which often leads to public anxiety.
Notable Quote:
Anna Kelly [03:02]:
"There are three goals for these tariffs. First, restrictions to help our domestic industries by ensuring American-made goods are competitive globally. Second, we're securing revenue from imports. And most importantly, reciprocity—rectifying decades of unfair trading practices that have disadvantaged American farmers and workers."
Kelly emphasizes that the tariffs are designed to create a level playing field, countering longstanding inequities in international trade that have previously favored foreign competitors at the expense of American industries.
Key Discussion:
Buck Sexton probes into the judiciary's attempts to limit presidential powers, particularly in hiring and firing within the executive branch. He references an increase in judicial injunctions aimed at curbing the President's authority.
Notable Quote:
Anna Kelly [04:55]:
"We believe it's unjust and unconstitutional for activist judges to attempt to seize the President's authority over the executive branch. This power includes hiring and firing decisions essential for eliminating wasteful spending and making the federal workforce more efficient for the benefit of Americans."
Kelly asserts the administration's commitment to defending the President's executive powers against what they perceive as overreaching judicial actions, highlighting the importance of maintaining efficient and accountable federal operations.
Key Discussion:
The conversation shifts to immigration, with Buck referencing a CBS News report about President Trump's intention to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to expedite deportations to Guantanamo Bay. He seeks Kelly's insights into this controversial move.
Notable Quote:
Anna Kelly [06:09]:
"President Trump is fulfilling his promise to enact the largest mass deportation of migrant criminals in American history. Over 32,000 enforcement arrests in the first 50 days and 33,000 additional arrests in fiscal year 2024 alone demonstrate our commitment to stopping the invasion by migrant criminals."
Kelly defends the administration's deportation efforts, contrasting them with the previous administration's handling of immigration. She underscores the focus on removing individuals with criminal backgrounds, thereby aiming to enhance national security and public safety.
Key Discussion:
Buck brings up reports indicating a significant decrease in illegal border crossings and fentanyl seizures, attributing these successes to the administration's robust border security measures.
Notable Quote:
Anna Kelly [08:24]:
"President Trump is sending a clear message to migrant criminals: do not come here. Our enhanced border security measures and accountability with Mexico and Canada concerning fentanyl influxes are yielding positive results in reducing unauthorized crossings and drug trafficking."
Kelly highlights the administration's strategic efforts to fortify border security, emphasizing collaboration with neighboring countries to tackle the drug epidemic and illegal immigration more effectively.
Key Discussion:
Clay confronts Anna Kelly about recent misleading media reports regarding the handling of classified documents by USAID, seeking clarification and response to the "fake news" narrative.
Notable Quote:
Anna Kelly [09:56]:
"The reports are entirely fabricated. USAID employees were responsibly clearing out the building in preparation for Customs and Border Patrol occupancy. Any classified documents handled were dealt with through proper channels. The media's false narratives are sowing unnecessary chaos and confusion."
Kelly vehemently denies any wrongdoing, asserting that the administration is maintaining transparency and adherence to protocols. She criticizes media outlets for spreading misinformation, which she believes undermines public trust in the administration.
Key Discussion:
The hosts inquire about the general media climate surrounding the Trump administration, questioning whether there's been any shift towards more balanced reporting.
Notable Quote:
Anna Kelly [11:27]:
"The media is struggling to cover a President who is consistently delivering on his promises. With unprecedented job growth and economic strength, coupled with decisive actions on border security, they lack a coherent narrative to challenge our successes."
Kelly praises the administration's achievements, including job creation and economic policies, while expressing frustration over the media's inability to acknowledge these accomplishments adequately.
Key Discussion:
Towards the end of the conversation, Buck touches upon the President's role in revitalizing NATO commitments, prompting Kelly to elaborate on recent developments.
Notable Quote:
Anna Kelly [12:24]:
"Under President Trump's leadership, European NATO members have significantly increased their defense spending—committing an additional $800 billion. This revitalization ensures a strong, self-sufficient alliance capable of addressing global threats without over-reliance on the United States."
Kelly credits the President with galvanizing NATO allies to fulfill their financial commitments, thereby strengthening collective defense mechanisms and reducing the burden on the U.S.
Throughout the episode, Anna Kelly provides a robust defense of the Trump administration's policies, addressing critiques and highlighting successes in economic, immigration, and foreign policy areas. She consistently attributes media criticisms to "fake news" and emphasizes the administration's commitment to fulfilling its promises and enhancing national prosperity and security. The conversation offers listeners an insider perspective on the administration's strategies and responses to ongoing challenges.
Notable Closing Quote:
Anna Kelly [13:07]:
"We're winning every single day and having so much fun. The American people overwhelmingly support the President's agenda, and we're delivering on the promises made to restore the economy, secure the border, and strengthen our position globally."
This affirmation encapsulates the administration's confident stance and determination to continue advancing its objectives despite external pressures and criticisms.
