Klay and Buck kicks off right now. Thanks everybody for being here with us. We are joined by Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy. Senator Cassidy, appreciate you being here, sir.
Tom Homan
Hey guys, great to be with you.
Senator Bill Cassidy
Thanks for having me.
Clay Travis
Appreciate it very much. Let's, let's start with where you are on the DHS funding situation here. I mean, I'm sure you want, you want TSA funded, but I'm not sure. I haven't checked in on New Orleans airport, whether it's been affected at all. That would obviously be a big deal in your home state that you represent. But it looks like there might be a turning of the tide here. You now have ICE helping out, possibly even National Guard helping out. Do you think this changes the calculation for Democrats or is this just going to continue on this brinksmanship ship where the American people who are trying to travel end up suffering?
Senator Bill Cassidy
I think Chuck Schumer thinks he's got a winning issue and he's going to ride that horse. And I am, I, you know, I'm a doctor, excuse the term, but I am urinated off. I mean, we got people waiting five hours to get through a line. We got TSA agents trying to pay their bills and haven't been paid for six weeks. And, and most, I mean, all the demands that the Democrats had have been met. Okay. Then they pull back and say we want more. It's like the Iranians with the Strait of Hormuz. They think they got a winning issue. They're going to continue to hold it hostage until they extract as much as they can. And they don't care the cost to the American traveler and they don't care the cost to the person who works for TSA or FEMA or Coast Guard. It is just, man, you just deserve to be angry, brother.
Buck Sexton
In your state, New Orleans, it has been among the worst of all airports that we've seen not far from you. Houston has also been bad. What are you hearing at the New Orleans airport For people out there that are maybe traveling to or from, it's a big tourist destination, it's spring break. What are you hearing from people at New Orleans about what they're able to do? What would you say to people that are going to be or thinking about traveling through New Orleans in the near future?
Senator Bill Cassidy
So first, the woman I spoke to who was going to come meet me after three hours standing in line which stretched out into the parking garage, she missed her flight and said, I'm sorry I can't come see you. I talked to the airport administrator. Sunday and Monday are the busiest travel days. Usually by mid morning things are kind of clearing up. And so if you're traveling out of Louis Armstrong Airport, try and get a later flight in the afternoon. If you're in the morning, go very early, particularly if you're on Sunday and Monday. But you know, the very fact that we're having this conversation and Democrats agreed to a deal months ago and then they then pulled back and then they agreed again and then they pulled back. They don't want a deal, they want an issue. And the issue that they want continues to evolve, which makes me think what they really want is a political selling point, that somehow that they're the savior even though they're the ones screwing it up. Hey guys, this just really frustrating.
Buck Sexton
When do you think this gets resolved? I mean there seemed to be a little bit of optimism, but again, as we've mentioned, this is happening all over the country. We're hearing about it a lot if you had to guess. I mean it is a political issue now Democrats have decided to make it one you may have heard. We had the ICE suggestion help to emerge from this program from one of our callers. Where is this going and how do we fix it?
Senator Bill Cassidy
Well, the President's going to try and you know, for those positions that, that an ICE or a National Guard could help with the fellow that stands at the, or sits at the exit so they make sure you don't double back in. Clearly, you know, one of the three of us could do that, right? I mean that's just like, sorry, you can't do that. And so that won't require training. There's some other things that you know, the person sitting at the, at the X ray machine, that person, she requires a lot of training. And so some things they can do and some things they can't. I think I was told at one point New Orleans airport had an 83% sick in rate and then somebody else told me 43% either way, that's a lot of people to replace, and a lot of those are going to require at least some training. So I like the President trying to get out there, get ahead of it. I think we should. We're still going to have some problems.
Clay Travis
Can you just remind everybody, Senator, that what it is that the Democrats actually want, like, what are the concessions that they are demanding? It seems to me like they essentially want to be able to call the shots with an executive law enforcement branch or the law enforcement function of an executive branch agency. And they're just using this issue. It's like they're taking travelers hostage or at least their time hostage until they can get what they want.
Senator Bill Cassidy
Yeah, it really is remarkable. They don't want funding for ICE and they don't want any money to like, transport somebody here illegally back to their home country. Now, in the working families tax cuts bill, we actually, Republicans anticipated they might do this in the future. And so we increased the funding back then for ICE to an amount sufficient to pay for ICE operations, even if Democrats pull this trick. So we can actually navigate that. We thought ahead so we can navigate that.
Tom Homan
But
Senator Bill Cassidy
they also want the ICE agents not to have to wear a mask. Now, the problem with that is if you get a facial image, you can dox the person. And then as somebody points out, they've got their street brigades who will then go out and terrorize the person, his family, her children, they will follow them to their home. We know that because in Portland, that's what the kind of radical left street brigade did to federal agents in Portland and harassed the heck out of the family. So the mask are protecting the families of the agents. Tom Holman said, listen, we can put numbers on their outfits. If you want to know who's responsible for an action, you'll put a number up there, 1, 2, 3, 4, and it'll be number one. And we can trace that number back if someone behaves inappropriately. So, so, so they. So I think what they really want in that case is to intimidate the officer and their family. They also want body cams. The, the administration, the White House has said, we'll give you body cams. We'll increase the money going for body cams. We want to be able to keep the film. We'll keep the film. So the demands are being met, except for the demands which would put the safety of the families at risk. And those are the ones they're dug in on, which kind of like you really want the families at risk. But that's what they want.
Buck Sexton
We're Talking to Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana. You are working on a bill that is trying to get overall the insider trading shut down. This is something that is overwhelmingly popular with our audience. We hear about it all the time. Certainly Nancy Pelosi has had the greatest success of anybody this side of Warren Buffett. What is the likelihood of a bill getting passed? What are you trying to do?
Senator Bill Cassidy
Yeah, we're trying to restore faith in Congress. Full disclosure, I'm running for reelection. One of my opponents, Congresswoman Letlow, has done extremely well in the stock market, including trading on stocks that in which the companies have appeared before a subcommittee upon which he serves. But. But this should be about restoring the FAI in the American people. That Congress is not a place you come to do well financially. It's a place you come to do good for the nation and for your state and for your constituents. And it should be a place you come to do good. So the fact that Nancy Pelosi and her stock trading has become a punchline tells you the problem. That should not be a punchline. That people in Congress are using inside information or their families are. Someone said, well, it's her husband. Okay. Right. They never talk. They never pillow talk. So I think this is just about making helping the American people, if you will restore the faith that you come here to do good for the American people, not to do well for yourself.
Clay Travis
Senator, what are your thoughts on where the war with Iran stands right now? I know there's ongoing negotiation. The President is saying, militarily, this has been an incredible display of our capabilities and has been very effective at degrading Iranian capabilities. Strait of Hormuz. Is it open? Is it going to open soon? That's a big question. People have gas prices. Obviously, some concern there. Where do you come down on all of this?
Senator Bill Cassidy
Clearly, the Iranians sending a ballistic missile 2,500 miles towards our naval base. Diego Garcia shows us that they were developing ballistic missiles. They just declared it. They said they weren't and they obviously were next. They obviously were trying to get enriched uranium. And despite their denials, everyone knows they were doing it for a nuclear weapon. So you put the two together. They were trying to develop a nuclear weapon, and they now have ballistic missiles that could go all throughout Europe and all throughout where many of our bases are. So the President's decision to go after them will be judged on a success. But the motivation behind it, to keep them from developing nuclear weaponries and to keep them from being able to deliver it, that seems to have been. Hmm, I see their point. It Seems like that's the case after all, in terms of the Strait of Hormuz. Our allies like UAE and the Europeans and the Saudi Arabians, it's going to be tough on them if Iran ends up controlling the Strait of Hormuz. And I have to think that the president, his administration, are going to make sure that that doesn't happen.
Buck Sexton
We're talking to Senator Bill Cassidy. Okay. Chaos when it comes to college athletics. I know that you have a bill that you are working on there. A lot of people all over the country, particularly in your state of Louisiana, where Lane Kiffin is now the LSU football coach, are very focused on Nil. Maybe might be a new basketball coach headed that way, too. What. What say you? What's the goal?
Senator Bill Cassidy
First, I know that Clay loves Lane Kiffin. I'm sure Clay just, like, has a poster of Lane in his bedroom.
Buck Sexton
I don't know that far.
Tom Homan
So.
Senator Bill Cassidy
So even people put it this way, everybody, I think, thinks that the athletes should have had some revenue sharing. The universities are pulling in an incredible amount of money, and they weren't sharing any of it. Tommy Tuberville, former coach at Auburn, is on my committee. He goes. He had been pushing for revenue sharing for the longest, and it's an open secret that payments were being made. So just bring him above the table, have some control over it. That sounds good. What's happened? And there's an athlete back home, Kyle Temple, about 70 years old, but he has played basketball at LSU. A mentor to a lot of folks going through LSU. He had Kel Kids. You stay at LSU, you keep your nose clean. At the end of four years, you got loyalty to an institution, they have loyalty to you. And if you're one of that 99.5% of athletes who don't have a pro career, you're going to have another career that sets you up for success. Now kids are changing schools, sometimes twice in one year. There's no loyalty to the athlete and no loyalty from the athlete to the community or the school. And they graduate, they don't go to the pros, and they end up with nothing. Sometimes not a degree. That has to stop. We got to take care of the athlete, the student athlete. I talked to Nick Saban about this. One of his kids transferred to another university, lost 56 credits. He was 18 credits away from graduating. When he transferred, he lost 56 credits. Now, it's easy to imagine that young man never graduated. So he ends up doesn't play pros, doesn't have a degree, and no loyalty from the University. We're trying to make this. So it's about the student. The student knows the cost, the student does well. And it's not some agent enticing them into the transfer portal that ends up doing better.
Buck Sexton
Senator, we appreciate time. When is the primary in Louisiana?
Senator Bill Cassidy
May 16th.
Buck Sexton
Oh, very soon.
Senator Bill Cassidy
Yeah, May 16th. I think it's like, 55 days or something like that.
Tom Homan
So get out there, vote.
Senator Bill Cassidy
Vote often.
Buck Sexton
Thank you, sir.
Tom Homan
Thank you, man.

Travis Buck Sexton show We mentioned Caroline Levitt is right now was recently having a press release conference. We will play one of those cuts for you in a moment, but I wanted to hit you with this. Trump has announced that he is going to be taking his state visit trip to China on May 14th and 15th. Buck, you and I were just talking off air. I do think it's worth kind of thinking through this. To me, that's the back end of the absolute longest time that he sees this action in Iran ongoing. And I think you said you thought good chance it's done by May, by April 1st. I told, I said the other day I would be stunned if it's still going on by May 1st. And I think the timing on this is significant because usually for those of you who know the overall cost of oil and gas goes up in the summer, your gallon of gas goes up because in the summer driving season demand then prices almost always go up and then they come back down around September. I would be very surprised if he's not done by May 1st at the latest because that allows the pricing to kind of calm down, although it's already taking place that the pricing is calming down. I would almost guarantee you everything in Iran is going to be done by May 14th and 15th. And in fact, there is a story out there right now that Netanyahu has ordered Israeli bombings to accelerate rapidly over the next 48 hours because he thinks Trump may wind down operations even sooner than that. So just FYI, that information is out there and maybe worth kind of keeping in the back of your mind, I
Clay Travis
would assume that whatever the deal is, it will include Israel has to stop bombing, too. So if Trump says there's a deal, I don't think Iran signs a deal or agrees to some deal with the Trump administration and they're still getting bombed by Israel. I would assume that there's some coordination going on there. But look, the administration is, seems very bullish on getting the concessions that they want from Tehran and they seem to think that this is going more or less according to plan. And that's not just the blowing up all the Iranian military stuff that's getting to the outcome that they want here. So that's, that's certainly encouraging. And I hope that this is, this is something that we'll all be able to look back on and say was a masterstroke from the Trump administration, no doubt.
Buck Sexton
What could be a masterstroke for you? How about saving $1,000 over the course of the next year while you are signed up for your cell phone bill? You can get hooked up right now at PureTalk. It's just 25 bucks a month for unlimited talk text, plenty of data. That's a phenomenal deal. PureTalk also creates American jobs by building a customer service team, 100% based here in the good old USA. Their service on the same towers and network, delivering the same 5G coverage as one of the big wireless companies, but at a fraction of the price. If you like what PureTalk stands for, support them by switching your cell phone service. Dial pound two five zero, say Clay and Buck to switch to Pure Talk. That's pound two hundred fifty, say Clay and Buck to switch to Pure Talk today.
Clay Travis
Welcome back into Clay and Buck while we're tracking down Tom Homan. Look, if he's busy, he's got to save the country. He can call us whenever he wants. So he's got to take a rain check. No problem, but we'll get him soon. If not now, I would say the following Clay. Yesterday the Supreme Court heard arguments about something that very much affects the border. Has to do with whether you can. Well, what's at issue here is a policy that was started about a decade ago. I think it was a little more where when they would have ports of entry overwhelmed, they would stop people inside of Mexico still and be like, look, we're not, we're not taking any more here. And you'd have to wait in Mexico until your number was called, so to speak. And there's not, there's a lawsuit, it's made it all the way to the Supreme Court where no surprise, open border groups and all the rest, they want it to be you. They can't have this policy in place. It's currently not active by the way, but it could be if there were surges at the border. But they want to be able to say this is by the way, the case is Nome versus Al Otro Lado. It's the practice is called metering, which is a turnback policy. Yeah, started, started under actually the Obama administration and because they got, they had such a crazy situation going on at the ports of entry at the very end of the Obama administration and then the Trump administration expanded it. No surprise there. So they would stop people before they could actually set foot on US soil, say sorry, not allowed. And the lawsuit, Clay, is whether because under the Immigration and Nationality act, non citizens are allowed to apply for asylum if they are physically present in the US this reminds you ever see the old cartoons where like the banditos or the bad guys would slide across the border from Texas into, into Mexico and then the sheriff, you know, that's it, you're not on, you're not on US terra firma anymore. And you know, then they could say haha, you can't do anything about it. This is a similar situation except it's stopping them before they're on US soil. And the immigrants rights group Al Ultro Lado and a bunch of individual asylum seekers also brought this suit saying hey, we're basically in America so we should be able to, if we get all the way to the border, we should be able to be covered under in America as an on US Soil. I think the court's going to come down six three and say no actually in America means in America. And we have now from dhs, Tom Holman with us. Tom, thanks for making the time. I don't know if you heard my, my preamble there for a second, but can, can you just explain to people real quick this physically present in the United States for asylum seekers. What is this metering policy? How'd this get going?
Tom Homan
I'm sorry, I just got on. My flight was late. I just got into a room here. I didn't hear that Clay. I'm sorry.
Clay Travis
Oh no, it's buck. It's okay. So there There's a. There's a under the immigrate. Anyway, you know what? Just tell me this let's actually jump into the airport thing, because that's what everybody cares about. I was trying to do a elegant radio turn there, but instead, let's just get to what everyone cares about, which is ICE in the airports. How's this going? What are the next steps? What are you seeing first?
Tom Homan
Bucks. Buck Sachs. And I'm glad I'm talking. I don't know what Mallon talked to. I got. I got more jobs in Marco Rubio. Hey, look, bottom line is what's happening in the airports is. Was Trump's. President Trump's idea, who called me up in less than 24 hours. What the flannigger I think is a brilliant idea. Idea. But look, you know that ISIS being paid. President Trump asked us get to the airports to help because a lot of TSA workers are calling in or they're just plain quitting. So we're going up to do two things. Number one, we're going to shore up the security of that airport and keep the airways safe, and we're going to support tsa. So jobs that don't require, like, the X ray training, other security jobs, whether it's checking identification, whether it's, you know, luggage, whether it's, you know, providing security around the checkpoints, whether it's, you know, you know, whatever TSA needs us to do to move those lines quicker and to keep security at the highest level, that's what we're doing. But I want to add one more thing. I see a lot of stories about ice, immigration enforcement in airports. No, you're damn right. Our purpose there is help TSA provide security and get people to the checkpoints. However, these HSI officers and ERO officers, they see illegal activity, they're going to absolutely take action. So, yeah, we're doing a little bit of everything right now.
Buck Sexton
Do you expect. This is Clay. Thanks for coming on. You were just talking with Buck. I know how busy you are. Do you expect. You just said, you're damn right. Yeah, you just said you're damn right. Do you expect that TSA will be able to help you with ice, arrest people? Because. And you tell me if I'm wrong here, but what I think about is people are showing up with IDs. We know exactly who they are. It seems like it could potentially be a very easy place to figure out if you're arresting the right guys or gals.
Tom Homan
Oh, you want to talk about target enforcement operators? Absolutely. Because everybody's got to show 90 come through and we can, you know, every special agent era officer has a cell phone with the capability of accessing our databases. So, yeah, you know, this work, we're going to force immigration. When we see illegal table we get a lead or target lead, you know, from TSA saying we got information on this one or that one. Yeah, we're going to do, we're going to do our job. We're going to do, you know, open a criminal investigation. Whether, you know, if we got reasonable suspicion to question somebody or probably call to arrest somebody, that's exactly what we're going to do. We're going to work with our brothers and sisters and TSA to keep that airport safe. And if someone's transverse from the airport that not in the country and we find out about it and we have reasonable suspicion, you know, we're going, we're going to take enforcement action. We're absolutely going to do that.
Buck Sexton
We're talking to Tom Holman. I don't know if you saw, but Philadelphia's district attorney, I believe his last name is Krasner said threatened to arrest ICE agents at the airport. What's your reaction when you Hear Soros funded DA's making comments like that?
Tom Homan
That's ridiculous. And you know, bottom line is federal law always trumps local state law. So, you know, we're reforming our duties as enacted by Congress. We're not making this up. We are enforcing immigration law. We're going to do it all apology. I mean, I've been up on the Hill negotiating, trying to get this government back open and they basically, they say they don't really want to abolish dice. They want to just reform Weiss. No, the language they're proposing, they want, you know, they just want to shut it down. They want to take tools wife and ice. I'm not going to do that. They've been hamstrung for four years under Joe Biden. Now they're finally doing their duty. They're upholding the oath they took. They're enforcing laws that Congress wrote and was signed by president and that's exactly what we're going to do. So, you know, I'm frustrated. They honestly see some sort of benefit on not funding the Department of Homeland Security. Right. We're in an elevated threat posture right now. And they're in. And we got people from, you know, cybersecurity that aren't working. We got people, you know, the Coast Guard ain't being paid. We got people with no TSA not being paid fema not being paid. These people are putting this country at great risk during an elevated threat posture. It's just unbelievable that they're not willing to come to the table and meet with us. I met with them. They talk about reform and immigration, but I've been explaining to them the policies of enforcement have not changed in 30 years. We had the same policies under Obama, under Clinton, under Bush 1 and Bush 2. So it's not a policy issue, it's an execution issue. And we fixed that. There were some problems in Minneapolis. I went up there and President Trump asked me to go up there and address it. We addressed a few issues, but most of the men and women, 99%, are doing the right thing and we're on the right mission. But I'm not going to sit there and negotiate taking authorities or away from ICE to enforce the law. It's just. It's ridiculous. I'm tired of it.
Clay Travis
We're speaking to Tom Holman, border czar for this Trump White House. And Tom, can you speak to where are we in terms of illegal removals, deportations, one year and change into this administration, and what are expectations? What is on the horizon for deportations going forward? Is there a plan to ramp up? You know, so basically, how far have we come to this point and where are we going over the next year?
Tom Homan
Well, you know, last year we got about, you know, a little over 700,000 removals between the patrol and us. The closest year to that was under Obama administration in 2012 when I was in ERO, we removed 409,000. So we blew that out of the water. And, you know, I actually got a presidential rank award for that. You know how the Democrats have changed. I got an Award in 2012 for 409,000 removals and, you know, highest award available. Now all of a sudden, I can't. I'm not allowed to deport anybody. But, you know, if we have a 700,000, we're already making records. But we just brought 10,000 more. Well, not quite. We got a few, you know, almost at 10,000, but we're hiring 10,000 more enforcement officers, which is going to just increase. Those men and women on the street, the sanctuary cities and all this, all this crap going on. Yes, it's less efficient. We have to work harder. We have to work smarter because they won't give us access to the jails. But, you know, like with Minnesota, you know, it was terrible up there. But, you know, I went up there, I sat down with the governor, sat down with AG I sat down the Mayor and I explained to them, you don't want. You don't want all 3,000 people in your street, then let me in a damn jail. Because one agent can arrest one bad guy in a jail. But when you release them, I got to send a whole few jobs team to find him. And because of all the hating and the threats up there, then we got to send a security team to back up the arrest team. So you got a dozen guys out there that could have done the job with one person in the jail. And we got unprecedented cooperation in the county jails throughout the state. We, you know, we got state prison system working with those. It made sense. It made sense because less people are needed to do the job. But, you know, in these sanctuary cities, that's what it is. Back in the day, when I was an agent, we had access to all the jails. One agent can arrest one bad guy, but they release them. Now we got to send six or seven people for officer safety reasons to find them, find someone doesn't want to be arrested, which is, of course, much dangerous for the community, Danger for the more dangerous for the alien, because anything can happen in the street arrest, and much dangerous for the agents. But with 10,000 more agents will beat last year's number. But, you know, things like, now we got agents at the airport now and rather than on the street in the. But you know, the priority right now is get the airport secure, move those lines through, and help our brothers and sisters in tsa. But as soon as the shutdown ends, and I think it's going to come out to a reconciliation, because this negotiation is going nowhere. I mean, we give a little bit, they take away a bunch. It's just. It's just ridiculous. So when we get the government back open, then I can get out there and get back to the main mission. But I want to be clear, we're going to leave a contingent at the airport because we got human trafficking through the airport, we got currency smuggling through the airport, we got aliens smuggling through the airport. We've always had a small footprint there. But what we're seeing now, we may have a bigger contingent there to enforce immigration law there, too.
Buck Sexton
We're talking to borders. Our ton. Tom Holman, you told us before that you thought there were 20 million illegals in the country after Biden opened the border and let everybody in. You just talked about. I think the number was 700,000. How many people do you think are voluntarily leaving? You know, people out there who see what's going on and just say, hey, maybe this is not the place for me. Do you have. I know there's been numbers out there, but what kind of sense do you have about voluntary departure?
Tom Homan
Well, according to DHS data, it's over 2 million. First year in the Trump. Over 2 million. Either through the Home app. CBP. Home app, or just leaving. CBP tracks a lot of people when they, you know, they land in foreign airports, but we don't really know who goes south to the border, travel south. But DHS and through some independent studies said about 2 million. I think the more and more. And let me tell you something about ICE operation, about the secure border. We have the most secure border ever. We got to give a lot of credit to what's happening, what ICE is doing in the streets right now, because we sent a clear message. There's no longer free ride. If you're in this country legally, we're looking for you. When the whole world sees ICE out there doing massive operations, that sends a strong message. Don't give your life savings to the cartel because you're not going to be released from the border like the Biden administration did. If you happen to get by the border patrol, we're looking for it. No more free ride. So I think because of what ISIS doing nationwide is a big factor in why we have the most secured border in the history of this nation.
Buck Sexton
Tom Holman, Borders are. We know how busy you are. We appreciate you. Anything else?
Clay Travis
Can I say something real quick? Yeah, Just want to say something real quick, Tom. Thank you for what you're doing, you know, and thank you for representing the men and women of ICE and DHS so well, with all the nonsense the Democrats have been trying. I just was watching some TV show last night totally maligning ice. You're a true professional. You're serving your country. And, you know, thanks from, from me, from Clay and from the whole audience. We really appreciate you and all the men and women of ICE who are doing their job under the Constitution of this country.
Tom Homan
Let me add one thing, that I appreciate those words. Thank you. But you know what? God bless the men, women of ICE and borg. I was a Borg slate. I know what they're dealing with. I was an ICE agent for a long time. I know what they're dealing with. I wish these members of Congress, rather than vilifying the men and women of ICE and calling Nazis and the secret police, which just increases the threats against them, increases the violence against them, you know what? Grow set. Put a badge on your badge on your chest, Put a gun on your hip. And come out with us. See what they're dealing with and see what you have caused from the constant negative rhetoric and comparing them to the Nazis, which increases a threat against them, which increases the doxing against them, which has increased increase assaults over 1400%. So rather than sitting there calling us names, strap a gun to your hip, put a Kevlar vest on and come do what we do and see if you can stand on the line. I guarantee you none of them can.
Clay Travis
Absolutely. God Bless Tom to you and all those that you're you're representing out there. Thank you so much. Clay.
