Dr. Nicole Safire
I'm Dr. Nicole Safire and this is your first weekly rundown of 2026 and doesn't it feel good? As we head into this new year, I've been doing a lot of thinking. Not just about medicine, but about how I want to show up in my own life. One of my biggest personal goals for 2026 is simple. Well, in theory, but it's hard in practice. Spending less time on my phone. That's right. Like many of you, my phone has become a constant companion. Emails, headlines, social media, text notifications that never seem to stop. And while technology connects us and makes life easier, it also fragments our attention. I want to be more present with my patients, my family, and honestly, with myself. Less scrolling, fewer distractions, more intentional time. Because mental clarity, focus and real connection are foundational to health. And I need to practice what I preach now. On the professional side, I'm also cautiously optimistic about something that could meaningfully improve patient care. Heading into 2026, CMS under Dr. Mehmet Oz has made changes to the whole prior authorization process. You know, the getting insurance companies to cover things. For years, prior authorizations have been one of the most frustrating barriers in healthcare. Delayed medical imaging, medications at the pharmacy, treatments not because something isn't medically necessary, but because paperwork got in the way. Patients feel it, doctors feel it, and it has absolutely contributed to burnout and worse outcomes. Now there's growing momentum to streamline this process using automation, clear guidelines, and faster turnaround times. If done right, this could mean fewer delays, less red tape, and more time spent where it actually belongs, on patient care, not fighting with insurance companies. Because that's what we've been doing, even more so since the Affordable Care act passed. So as I look towards 2026, I'm aiming for less noise and more progress, personally and professionally. Less time on my phone and hopefully less time stuck in bureaucratic limbo for my patients. Well, that's the goal. I'm going to be watching it closely. Feel free to call me out on it if you think I'm spending too much time on social media. As always, thanks for listening. Happy New Year. We are starting off 2026 with a bang. I'm Dr. Nicole Safire. Thanks for listening to Wellness Unmass. You can get this podcast on iheartradio or wherever you get your podcasts. And we'll see you next time.

Shipt/Target Circle 360 User
I already love same day delivery with Shipt, but it's so much better since I signed up for target's circle 360. Why? Cause I no longer pay price markups from the majority of stores through Shipt. Only a handful of alcohol retailers and items don't count. That means no markups on groceries, pet food, even home goods and makeup. So to recap, I have more time to catch up on life while someone shops for me and I spend less. It's a win win. Order now@shipt.com 360 terms apply.

Chelsea Handler
I have some very exciting news. I am always looking for companies to support that are ethical. And let's be honest, the phone companies we've all been stuck with are not that. This is Chelsea Handler from Dear Chelsea. You know I travel constantly and supposedly I have international free roaming on Verizon. Yet my phone bills are still 300, 400 and even $500 a month. It makes zero sense. So I switched to a company with actual ethics, Noble Mobile, and they pay you for staying off your phone. The more you unplug, the more money you save each month and the most you'll Ever pay is 50 bucks Unlimited coverage when I need it, cash back when I don't. It was started by people I know and trust. So if you trust me and want to join my mission to stop being a phone addicted zombie, come along. Go to noblemobile.com Chelsea right now and try it for just 10 bucks. That's noblemobile.com Chelsea.
