Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Friday, November 22, 2024. Today, Matt Gaetz withdraws from consideration for Attorney General amidst reports he had two sexual encounters with an underage girl. Brazil's former President Bolsonaro has been charged with plotting a coup. The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant for Netanyahu's arrest. The full police report of Pete Hegseth's sexual assault has been released. What are the chances of recess appointments by Donald Trump to circumvent Senate confirmation? And breaking news, Trump has just nominated Pam Bondi to be the Attorney General. I'm Alison Gill.
Dana Goldberg
And I'm Dana Goldberg. Pam Bondi, indeed. But also, like, maybe I'm missing something. I don't see her as dangerous other than being a whole sellout when she was obviously suing Donald Trump because of the Trump University fraud and then she got a $25,000 donation to her campaign and dropped the charges or didn't approve the case. Yeah, yeah, she's definitely viable. Like she, you know, she can be bought off, which is obviously horrifying. But I, I tell me if I'm wrong that this isn't as scary as it could be. Like, it's not Ken Paxton. You know what I mean?
Alison Gill
Well, she didn't rape a minor. There's that, far as I know.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Alison Gill
So, I mean, if we're going to make a list of pros and cons.
Dana Goldberg
That'S definitely in a pro line that.
Alison Gill
Would be taken off of the cons list.
Dana Goldberg
Although they probably saw that as a con. What's that?
Alison Gill
Yeah, yeah, you're right. That's really, I mean, in this administration, I think it's a requirement. And John Fugelsang and I are going to talk about that later in the show because it is Fugal saying Fridays on the Daily. I want to let all of our new listeners know. Thousands of thousands of new listeners. Welcome, welcome, welcome. We have Fugal saying Fridays here on the Daily Beans, where I spend a little bit of time talking to our friend John Fugal, saying he's the host to tell me everything on Sirius XM progress channel 127. He's a great guy. So we have those Little segments every Friday on the Daily Beans. So I'm looking forward to that. And let me really, let me explain this recess appointment thing real quick. So if the Senate agrees to recess for 10 days by a simple majority vote, then Trump can make his appointments without Senate confirmation. But there were a lot of Republicans in the Senate that were like, we're not going to do that. And they only have like a three seat majority. But if the Senate won't recess, but the House wants to recess, the House actually needs a simple majority vote to recess. It can't just be declared by Mike Johnson. They have to take a vote. And if they get it, and the House and the Senate are in disagreement, the House says we've voted to recess and the Senate says we didn't. Trump is the tiebreaker and he makes the call after he's sworn in, obviously, and then he can make his recess appointments. But if the House doesn't vote to recess, then Trump can't do any of this. And some House Republicans were not willing to vote for recess, at least not for Matt Gaetz, who is no longer a nominee. But we'll keep an eye on it for you. So Pam Bondi is the new nominee for Attorney General. Just within hours, like, he was ready to go. I would have waited a day to make it at least look like he was sad. But.
Dana Goldberg
Replace this lap dog that just died with another lap dog. Let's see if anyone notices.
Alison Gill
Like, I call up a doobie. Like, hey, so that other guy I wanted to date just said no, like five minutes ago. So it's you. You're next.
Dana Goldberg
That's right, you're in. I'm sure Pam feels really special right now.
Alison Gill
Oh, yeah, she must. But you know that the thing is, like you said, they're all awful, but maybe not as awful. But as long as he has something he can hold over their head, as long as he has compromise on these people. Yeah, which he does with Pam Bondi. Right. That's why she represented and I think his first impeachment, maybe his second. I can't remember. I. There's so many impeachments and trials, I, you know, I can't remember which lawyers represent him for what, which crime. Yeah, but, you know, like you said, she also stopped investigating Trump University after, you know, being given $25,000 from the Trump foundation, which has since been shuttered. And he's not allowed to operate a charity in New York anymore. Not, you know, not because it's like Eric Trump who stole money from cancer kids, but, you know, for the Trump University fraud and just for other foundation fraud, you know, like buying a giant painting of himself using donated money and shit like that. Anyway, real cool guy, real classy administration here. And we'll talk more about the Pam Bondi nomination on next week's cleanup on aisle 45 with me and Pete. So we have a lot of other news to get to today, a lot of international stuff going on. And, you know, I just want to preface these international stories by saying that we are quoting from other resources. So if you disagree with what's in the story, let them know. We'll tell you who, who wrote them. But we just, we'll give you names.
Dana Goldberg
And you go talk to them.
Alison Gill
And you go talk to them. So anyway, with that, let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up in Gates. Gate. This is from the Tallahassee Democrat. I wanted to go local here. In the latest bombshell in President elect Donald Trump's rapid fire Cabinet nominations, former U.S. rep. Matt Gaetz, Trump's controversial choice for attorney general, withdrew his nomination Thursday. In a post to Twitter, Gates said, quote, while the momentum was strong, it wasn't. It is clear it's not that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump Vance transition. Distraction isn't the word. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle. Thus, I will be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as attorney general. Trump's DOJ must be in place and ready on day one, he said, I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful president in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump, I mean, how many. He only has two boots to lick and one ass to kiss. Like, I mean, it's big ass, pack a lunch, but like, fuck, this is a lot of ass kissing here. I will be forever honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I'm certain he will save America. Now, Gates, who is facing an uphill Senate confirmation battle amid allegations that he sex trafficked minors and had, quote, excellent meetings with senators Wednesday, he has steadfastly denied wrongdoing. I greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gaetz in seeking approval to be attorney general. Trump posted on Truth Social Thursday, quote, he was doing very well, but at the same time did not want to be a distraction for the administration. So he's doing very well, but at the same time was also not doing well at all. Apparently, he dropped out 45 minutes after being contacted by CNN for comment about new reporting that he had a second sexual encounter with the minor at the party in. So what happens now? Can he step back into his old job? Could he be appointed to Marco Rubio's Senate seat as Rubio becomes the Secretary of State? Senator Gates was trending on Twitter within moments of him withdrawing.
Dana Goldberg
Jesus. Of course he was.
Alison Gill
Yeah, that's. That's how Republicans operate differently from Democrats. You know, imagine Menendez resigning for being indicted and us saying, senator, you know, no, Governor Menendez next. Like, it's mind blowing.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, yeah. And we have to remember that Elon Musk is the one that probably pushed that out and made it go viral. So I'm not even know if it's the Republicans. All he has to do is to put out a tweet and decide that the algorithm is going to do it.
Alison Gill
Yeah, that's very true. He's got the most, remember, because he was like, nobody's reading my post and everybody's blocked me, so you have to put my posts in everybody's feed or else. Oh, yeah. So that's probably what's going on there. The article goes on to say, can Matt Gaetz unresign from Congress and take his seat back in the U.S. house of Representatives? Gates resigned from Congress to be Trump's Attorney general two days before the release of a report from the House Ethics Committee on allegations of Gates's sexual misconduct and illicit drug use. According to the Constitution, quote, when vacancies happen in the representation from any state, the executive authority thereof shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies, unquote. Now, vacancies occur when, quote, an incumbent member dies, resigns, or leaves office for any reason before the end of their term. That's according to the Congressional Research Service. DeSantis, now back from a trade mission to Italy, had instructed Secretary of State Cord Bird to quickly schedule special elections For Gates and U.S. rep. Michael Waltz, who was nominated to be Trump's national security adviser. But that hasn't happened yet. Some political watchers have noted Gates resigned from the 118th Congress, which ends January 3, but was elected to serve in the 119th Congress starting next year, which could leave him some political wiggle room, but it really doesn't, because in his resignation letter, he says he will also not be sworn in for the 119th Congress, but he could probably take that back. I don't think that that's, you know, written. I was just kidding. Gates's wife, Ginger, posted a picture of the couple on the steps of the Capitol, saying the End of an era. So they've kind of made it look like they were done with Congress. But could GAETZ Run for U.S. house of Representatives again? There's nothing stopping him from running for his old job in the special election. He won another term in November with over 66% of the vote. Although as more leaks from the ethics report comes out, he may not enjoy the same level of support. I bet he will.
Dana Goldberg
Yep.
Alison Gill
Can he just go back to Congress in January? That's unclear. He won reelection in November. His election was certified by the state's Election Canvassing Commission Tuesday. And Ron DeSantis has not yet called a special election. Gates said he didn't intend to take the oath of office for the 119th US Congress in January, and his return may mean he's back under the cloud caused by the Ethics Committee investigation. They'd have to. The new Ethics Committee could pick this back up again. And it's. Even though it's a Republican House, it's still a 55 House Ethics Committee.
Dana Goldberg
That's nice to hear.
Alison Gill
Moreover, under the Constitution, ultimately the House, quote, shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members. But with such a slim majority, I doubt they would oust him. Could DeSantis make him Senator Gates? A trend is building for DeSantis to place Gaetz in the Senate seat that was vacated by Rubio, who's going to be Secretary of State. If he did, Gates would serve until 2026, when a special election would be held to serve out the remaining two years of Rubio's term. However, there was already a long line of people that were angling for that job, including Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez, attorney General Ashley Moody, former Florida House Speaker Jose Oliva DeSantis, his wife Casey DeSantis, Trump's daughter in law, Laura Trump, or even possibly Ron DeSantis himself.
Dana Goldberg
I guarantee that if they say they're gonna put Gates in the senator's seat, Laura Trump will leak the investigation. Someone will leak the investigation on that side to tank the placement.
Alison Gill
Plus, Trump hates DeSantis anyway. According to Politico Mia Camille McCarthy, Florida Senator Rick Scott seemed to favor Laura Trump for the job when asked about a possible Senator Gates. But you know, Rick Scott lost a huge leadership election, so maybe nobody gives a shit what he says. Could Gates run for governor? Both Gates and Waltz were considered as potential candidates for the 2026 gubernatorial race to replace DeSantis. He's term limited. He's got to leave in 2026, which is kind of why I think he's going to make himself the senator.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, my God. Yeah, I could see that happening.
Alison Gill
Nothing says I can't name myself. In 2023, NBC News reported Gates was considering a run for governor. But Gates has repeatedly said he does not want and his father told the Pensacola News Journal his son has no plans to run for office. Still, at this point, anything can happen. Regardless, I want the House ethics report to be released, and this motherfucker should never be allowed near any leadership position ever again.
Dana Goldberg
I agree. All right, A.G. this one's from the Guardian. The former Brazilian President Bolsonaro and some of his closest allies are among dozens of people formerly accused by Federal Police of being part of a criminal conspiracy designed to obliterate Brazil's democratic system through a right wing coup d'federal Police confirmed on Thursday that investigators had concluded their long running investigation into what they called a coordinated attempt to violently dismantle the constitutional state.
Alison Gill
Yeah. And a content warning. This story will sound familiar.
Dana Goldberg
Yes, it will. For anyone with PTSD from this last eight years. In a statement, police said the report, which has been forwarded to the Supreme Court, formally accused a total of 37 people of crimes, including involvement in an attempted coup, the formation of a criminal organization, and tried to tear down one of the world's largest democracies. The accused include Bolsonaro, as we know that, a disgraced army captain turned populist politician who was president from 2018 until the end of 2022, as well as some of the most important members of his far right administration. Bolsonaro has previously denied involvement in an attempt to overturn the result of the 2020 election, which he lost in Lula. Speaking to a journalist from a Brazilian news site after he was named in the police report, the former president said he needed to see what was in the investigation. Quote, I'm going to wait for the lawyer. That's what Bolsonaro added. The alleged pro Bolsonaro crew attempt played out during the turbulent final days of his four year administration, which came to an end when he was narrowly defeated by lula in the second round of the 2022 presidential election. In the lead up to that crunch vote, a manifesto signed by almost a million citizens warned that Brazilian democracy was facing a moment of, quote, immense danger to democratic normality, amid widespread suspicion that plans were afoot to help Bolsonaro cling to power. Even if he lost after losing, I can only laugh because my God. After losing his reelection bid, Bolsonaro flew into temporary exile in the US While thousands of supporters gathered outside military Bas around Brazil to demand a military intervention that never came. The failed attempt to overturn Lula's victory culminated in the January 8, 2023, riots in the capital when radicalized Bolsonaro supporters rampaged through the presidential palace, Congress and the Supreme Court. Nearly two years later, Lula is in power, but the far right threat to his administration remains. Last Wednesday night, a member of Bolsonaro's political party was killed after apparently blowing himself up with a handmade explosives while attacking the Suprem Court. In a video statement, Lula's communications Minister Pimenta said the government was, quote, utterly perplexed and outraged by the revelations that the former president and members of the military had allegedly been plotting to bring down Brazil's democracy, quote, with almost unbelievable audacity, and went on to say, these are very grave crimes and very serious accusations, said Pimenta, who said Lula's administration would now wait for the public prosecutor's office to decide which of the 37 would be prosecuted and put on trial. Those convicted would have to pay for the crimes they had committed against democracy, against the constitution and against the Brazilian people. That's again from Pimenta. Quote, bolsonaro is in jail. That's what the minister wrote alongside his video, echoing a call from many progressive Brazilians. And Jesus Christ, we could have been having the same thing if enough people had got out and voted.
Alison Gill
Yeah. And again, this was two years. This comes two years after much like ours did. Yeah, except our Supreme Court stopped ours from happening. So same timelines, different constitution, different Supreme Court. All right, everybody. Next up from the Associated Press, the world's top war crimes court, that's the icc, issued arrest warrants Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defense minister and Hamas's military chief, accusing them of crimes against humanity in connection with a 13 month war in Gaza. The warrants said there was reason to believe Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have used, quote, starvation as a method of warfare by restricting humanitarian aid and have intentionally targeted civilians in Israel's campaign against Hamas in Gaza. That's charges that Israeli officials deny the action by the International Criminal Court came as the death toll from Israel's campaign in Gaza has passed 44,000 people. That's according to local health authorities who say more than half of those killed were women and children. Their count does not differentiate between civilians and combatants. Experts say hunger has become widespread across Gaza and may have reached famine levels in the north part of the territory, which is under siege by Israeli troops. Israel Says it's been working hard to improve entry of aid, though the trickle of supplies into Gaza remains near the lowest levels of the war. Netanyahu condemned the warrant against him, saying Israel, quote, rejects with disgust the absurd and false accusations by the court. In a statement released by his office, he said, quote, there is nothing more just than the war that Israel has been waging in Gaza, unquote. Gallant, in a statement, said the decision, quote, sets a dangerous precedent against the right to self defense and moral warfare and encourage Bridge's murderous terrorism. The warrant marked the first time that a sitting leader of a major Western ally has been accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the Global Court of Justice. The decision turns Netanyahu and the others into internationally wanted suspects, putting them at risk of arrest when they travel abroad and potentially further isolating them. Israel and its top ally, the United States, are not members of the icc. We are not signatories. But others of Israel's allies, including some of its close European friends, are now put in an awkward position. Several, including France, welcomed the court's decision and signaled they might arrest Netanyahu if he visited. The move, quote, represents the most dramatic step yet in the court's involvement in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. That's Anthony Dworkin, senior policy fellow at the European Council of Foreign Relations. Israeli leaders, politicians and officials across the spectrum denounced the warrants and the icc. The new Defense minister, Israel Katz, who replaced Gallant earlier this month, said Thursday's decision is, quote, a moral disgrace entirely tainted by antisemitism and drags the international judicial system to an unprecedented low. The decision came six months after the ICC Chief Prosecutor Kareem Khan requested the warrants. The court issued a warrant for Mohammad Deef, head of Hamas's armed wing, over the October 7, 2023 attacks that triggered Israel's offensive in Gaza. So there's a warrant for him, too. It said it found reasonable grounds to believe Deef was involved in murder, rape, torture and the taking of hostages, amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity. In the Hamas led attack, militants stormed into southern Israel, killing 1200 people, mostly civilians, and taking some 250 others hostage. Around 100 Israelis remain captive in Gaza, around a third of them believed to be dead. Just today, I believe I'm interjecting here, I believe that Netanyahu is now issuing $5 million and free passage to anyone who brings any of the hostages back. Now. Khan withdrew requests for warrants for two other senior Hamas figures, Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh, who've both since been killed. Israel says it also killed Deef in an airstrike, but Hamas has never confirmed that death. The warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant were issued by a three judge panel unanimously. The panel said there were reasonable grounds to believe both men bear responsibility for the war crime of starvation and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution and other inhumane acts. Now, despite the warrants, none of the suspects is likely to face judges in the Hague anytime soon. Member countries are required to detain suspects facing a warrant if they set foot on their soil, but the court has no way to enforce that. For example, Putin wanted on an ICC warrant for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, recently visited Mongolia, a member state in the court, but also a Russian ally. So he was not arrested. So that's what's going on with the ICC warrants at this time. We'll keep a keep an eye on that story for you.
Dana Goldberg
Thanks so much AG and this next up, this one's from Mediaite. A police report on the allegation of sexual assault against Pete Hegseth. He's that Fox News star star is carrying a lot of weight there. Nominated by the president and elect Donald Trump to serve as secretary of Defense. That was obtained by Mediaite on Wednesday and contains graphic details of the 2017 encounter. So I'm just getting this story. I just want to do a content warning just in case as we move forward for sexual assault. The report provided by the city of Monterey, California was previously released to Heg Seth in March of 2021 per his request. It runs 22 pages and details the allegation leveled by a woman who claimed in 2017 that she was sexually assaulted by the cable news host at a Republican women's conference. Now, Tim Politeur, that's Hegseth's attorney, vehemently denied the assault when it was first reported last week that a detailed memo of the claim had been sent to the Trump team. Parlator said the sex was consensual and that Hegseth later paid his accuser as part of a non disclosure agreement ordered just to protect his reputation. Hegseth was never charged for the crime. In a new statement in immediate in light of the full police report, Paula Tour said this police report confirms what I have said all along and that the incident was fully investigated and police found the allegations to be false, which is why no charges were filed.
Alison Gill
That is untrue.
Dana Goldberg
Yep. Thank you AG and the report includes accounts of several police officers who spoke to Hegseth his accusers, by the way, who remains Anonymous and was identified throughout the report just as Jane Doe and others present at the conference, which took place in October of 2017. Well, according to the report, the police were first made aware of the alleged assault when Doe, who was 30 at the time, submitted for a rape kit exam at a local hospital. The nurse from the hospital called an officer at the Monterey Police Department and reported the assault claim. Days later, police spoke with Doe as part of their investigation. She said she spoke with Hegseth on the final night of the conference, during which attendees were drinking in a suite and at a bar in the hotel. Jane Doe told police that he was flirting with women and putting his hand on their legs at the conference, and this prompted her to tell Heth she did not appreciate how he treated women. Two different women who attended the conference and spoke with the police said that Heth put his hands on their legs and asked them to come back to his room on separate occasions. One of the women who worked at the conference told police that she told Heth the physical contact was not acceptable. She said she then called over Jane Doe to act as a buffer so he would not continue to pursue her. Now, at some point after midnight, Hegseth and Doe had an argument outside the hotel by the pool. That's according to the report. Doe said it was over his treatment of women. Hegseth, in an interview with the police, said he did not recall the argument. Police spoke with a staffer at the front desk of the hotel who said that around 1:30am that night, he received multiple complaints about a couple causing a disturbance by the pool. There he found Doe and Hegseth, who, quote, began to curse when he tried to speak with them. That's according to the police report. Hegseth told the hotel worker he had, quote, freedom of speech, while Jane Doe told the worker that they were Republicans and apologized for Heth.
Alison Gill
I'm sorry, we're Republicans.
Dana Goldberg
Yep. I have no idea. The hotel worker said Jane Doe then led Hegseth away. He said Heth appeared very drunk while Jane Doe was standing on her own and seemed coherent. Surveillance video reviewed by Police from around 1:15am showed Doe and Hegseth walking toward the pool, their arms locked, and Doe, quote, appeared to be smiling, per the report. That does not mean it's okay to rape someone. Allegedly, Doe told police she had been drinking that night and told the nurse that she believed something had been slipped into her drink. She told police that her recollection became fuzzy after the pool exchange and that the next memory she had was in an unknown room. She said Hegseth took her phone and blocked the door with body when she tried to leave. She also told police she said no. Repeatedly. She said she was next on a bed or a couch, and Hex was on top of her with his dog tags hovering over her face. Hex said she I'm so sorry, everyone. And this is the content. Warning, please, at this point, if you just don't want to hear anymore, I understand. Heg Seth, she said ejaculated on her stomach. She said he then threw her a towel and asked if she was okay. She said she did not remember how she got back to her room that night. Four days later, she went to the hospital. Well, a few weeks after the alleged assault, police spoke with Hegseth as part of their investigation. In a phone call with Monterey, Detective Heth insisted the sex was consensual. He said he was buzzed but not drunk and that Doe led him out of the bar before going back to his hotel room. He said Doe would not leave his hotel room, that the two proceeded to have consensual sexual. He said that she asked him for a condom and that he did not and asked her if that was okay. He said he told her they could stop if there was a problem. He also said he ejaculated on Doe's body after sex. Heth said Doe showed early signs of regret and said she would tell her husband she fell asleep on the couch in someone else's room. In a second call with police after her initial interview, Doe provided more recollections about the alleged encounter. She said she was suffering from nightmares and memory loss since another person who spoke with the police said Doe would, quote, cry secretly and out of the blue since that night. So the report is awful. Allison told me she read it, and it was pretty nauseating. I'm sorry that I had to report it to you, but it's very important that we all know the kind of people that he is nominating to run any part of this country.
Alison Gill
Yeah, and I specifically had a hard time reading that report. But I'm glad she filed it, and I'm glad she went to the hospital to have a rape kit done. A lot of people don't make it that far. The dog tags hanging in the face. I mean, this is not that different from what happened to me in the military.
Dana Goldberg
I'm so sorry.
Alison Gill
And that he wants to be in charge of the military is very hard for me to come to grips with, having been. I've been fighting about rape in the military for decades. So this One was hard to read. And that he's even being considered for a position like this is unbelievable. Dana. When I got a job As a fucking GS5 file clerk at the VA, they did an FBI background check on me. And if there was anything in my past where I was even investigated for anything like this, or if I had been to drug fueled illicit drug sex parties or something, I wouldn't get the job. I wouldn't get the file clerk job.
Dana Goldberg
100%. The fact that they're bypassing investigations and background checks on these people with their own private company. Come on.
Alison Gill
Yeah. So I'm very sorry to anybody who's being re traumatized at all by his. Just by his nomination. Yeah, I see you. And also go to the White House.gov website and the contact form and ask Joe Biden to ask for FBI background checks himself since Trump refuses to get them. And maybe he can give that information over to the Senate for confirmation hearings. All right, everybody, we have good news to get to. We also have the fugal saying Fridays right after this quick break. Stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
Dana Goldberg
We'll be right back.
Alison Gill

C
Fugal saying hello all of Allison's new listeners. It's a pleasure to drag you down to my level for a little bit. Thank you.
Alison Gill
Yeah, we actually, we have like thousands and thousands of like our. It's increased like 125% over here on the Daily Beans. I think everybody's cutting the cord to cable news, especially since the Joe and the Morning Joe thing happened. I mean, some people before that. But I think that was the last straw for a lot of people.
C
I think you're right. I think all the coverage and I think the relentless corporate media coddling of Donald Trump and having a different playing field for him than every other human has been the biggest factor. We're in progressive media. So it's awful funny to me to hear people say, you lost, you lost. I'm like, no, I was willing to vote against all these ratings. Like people are saying that, oh, this is going to be terrible for MSNBC's ratings. Donald Trump is going to be great for MSNBC's ratings. It's going to be a couple of weeks of people pointing fingers and licking their wounds. But as we said last week, by the time we get to Valentine's Day, Donald Trump's awfulness, ignorance, corruption, racism, misogyny and mediocrity will get everybody smacked back into shape. And on the same side, I mean, it's a great time for independent media. But listen, the resistance is going to be stronger than it ever was because Donald Trump is going to be more unhinged and worse than he ever was. Surrounded by more toadies than he's ever been.
Alison Gill
Yeah. And I wanted to talk about that vulnerability, about the idiocy because, you know, earlier in the week I talked to Andrea Pitzer who recorded that great. Her first podcast episode called Next Comes what that's the name of the podcast. And she and I, she talked about how we can still resist. And I think and we're going to get into the Matt Gaetz withdrawing his name for consideration for Attorney General. And we'll talk about, you know, why every single person that's being nominated and is president seems to be a sexual predator of some kind. But she, you know, one of the things is, hey, the military's not behind him yet. We have a date that we're looking forward. Do we have a time window to get a lot of stuff done? January 20th. A lot of, a lot of people who, countries and democracies who fall to autocracy and dictatorships don't get that kind of a warning or, you know, a time frame. But she also said and they're dumb. And I want to talk about that because I'm going to write up a thing in my substack at Mueller. She wrote.com about this. But the fact that, that Trump nominated Matt Gaetz Attorney General without any vetting is a dumb move. And let me break this down because.
C
He wild is back to do it. Went around Susie Wiles is back to.
Alison Gill
Do it because at first I thought, well, maybe he was just trying to get him out from, you know, from Congress so the report wouldn't come out and then his nomination would fail and then he would put him in at some non Senate confirmed position in the government. Right. But had he, if that was the case, he would have just nominated him to that non confirmed Senate position.
C
Correct.
Alison Gill
He wouldn't have nominated him for Attorney General if he didn't think that he would get it and he wouldn't have called all of his senator friends on the phone begging them to please confirm him or do a reset or recess the Senate for 10 days so he can do a recess appointment. It shows, it shows his idiocy and those are the vulnerabilities that we can exploit through pressure and resistance. To get these kinds of things thwarted and drive wedges into his plans is because he does these dumb ass things without thinking them through. It's actually something we can exploit.
C
Yeah, I have many thoughts to unpack on what you just said. You know, Alison, the very fact that Donald Trump was making so many calls to so many senators to fight for Matt Gates shows just how dumb he is and how scared he is. Now I understand why Donald Trump picked him. It's that bad. He needed to have someone running justice that he could have Kompromat over. I mean, that's it. You know, this is the opposite. Joe Biden is letting Justice Department prosecute his own son. And we'll get to Hunter Biden. And Donald Trump is so the opposite of that. It's another reason why Joe will never pardon his own son, because he wants to stress the contrast. Donald Trump does not want an independent judiciary. Donald Trump wants wants a puppet he can control in judiciary. Matt Gaetz was in many ways a smart choice for a stupid man because there's so much kamad on him. Imagine what Trump has on him that the Congressional Ethics Committee doesn't have. Also, Matt Gaetz and Robert Kennedy Jr. Kind of serve to draw the fire away from the other nominees. You know, when Martin Scorsese was making Casino, he put a scene where Joe Pesci put a guy's head in a vise and tightened the vice till an eyeball popped out. And Scorsese knew that was never going to go in the final movie, but he did it so the censors would fight him over that, over an NC17 rating. And in the end, when Marty finally gave in and cut that scene, they let everything else go because one piece of ugliness had taken all their focus. So I think a lot of this is while we're yelling and screaming about the sex pests. The Tulsi Gabbards can maybe coast right through easily. So I do think that it's an amazing cabinet to look at of hacks, quacks and a sex pest nest between RFK Jr, Donald Trump himself, Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, and oh boy, that one's going to be interesting before the week is done. Elon Musk on top of it. I want to tell everyone in Magdalene who's really angry there, don't feel bad about Matt Gaetz. There's a lot more rapists in the sea. There's many more sexual predators that can be still part of Donald Trump's cabinet. But it's the self inflicted chaos, Alison. The stupid is always greater than the sinister. And that is what saves America from fascism. Under Bush, Cheney and under Trump, they're dumber than they are evil and they're very evil. And I call this dim shady. So their own incompetence. I mean, Matt Gaetz paying for this on his fake adopted son's PayPal, that's what's going to save democracy. And again, it's going to be bad. I know it's going to be bad. But I want to congratulate Matt Gates. He's now removed more criminal insurrectionists from Congress in one day than Merrick Garland could in four years.
Alison Gill
That's a very good point. And let's talk a little bit about Joe Biden, please. He's done some stuff, you know, he's, he's released this $6 billion to Ukraine. The last, he's pushing that out the door. But there are some other things that I think he can do that he hasn't done. And this is why I want to encourage people to go to the whitehouse.gov website and actually write to him because they do read these. Yes, I know you might get a form letter back or an automated response back. But the idea is to do this in numbers too big to ignore. He also pushed through that $6.6 billion CHIPS act factory in Arizona, which is good. Get that going under contract. That can't be rescinded.
C
After Trump takes so positive, I'm sure the media won't touch on it ever. So that's great.
Alison Gill
We did. He also what he can do what I've been writing to him to do because I encouraged everybody on social media over on Blue sky where I am now to write to the White House and they're like, what should we tell him? And some of the things are release the $300 billion in frozen Russian assets to go to President Zelensky. He could release some classified files on Tulsi G. On some of these nominees.
C
No, on all of them. On all of them. He could have the FBI do investigations and release reports before January 20th.
Alison Gill
As long as they don't reveal human sources. Right. We don't want to put anybody in danger.
C
Yeah.
Alison Gill
He can't release grand jury material. Only courts can do that. And we're still yet to see if Jack Smith asks Judge Tucson to do so. He can give a blanket pardon to undocumented immigrants and dreamers. Oh, how Reagan asked the same way that Lincoln gave a blanket pardon to confederates. You didn't have to name them. That the quote, unquote crime they've already committed has already been committed. It's a past crime. So you can pardon it even if it hasn't been convicted or charged.
C
That's correct. And you can give one to the members of the armed forces and the generals who supervise the Afghan withdrawal that was set by Trump after Trump and Pompeo freed the 5,000 Taliban that attacked us that day.
Alison Gill
And he can also order the FBI to do background checks on these nominees. Absolutely, because he sees the White House and he can get that information and then send it on to the Senate before it flips over.
C
He can commute every federal death row prisoner sentenced to life in prison. I don't think he will, but he came in saying he was going to be the anti death penalty president and I really believed him. And then the Democrats dropped it from their platform this year. But he could still do it. Donald Trump murdered more prisoners than any president in the last hundred years combined. And again, we are America, where we're the only first world western nation that still murders our prisoners. So he can put a stop to that. He can still release Leonard Peltier before he dies. There's so much that Joe Biden can still do. And I'm really hoping that Joe Biden's ego saves democracy because I know that that old man does not want to leave the White House and he does not want to see his legacy undone. I am still hoping, Alison, that we get to see old Joe go full Bullworth for the next two months.
Alison Gill
Yeah, we'll see what happens. So write, write to him. Ask for those things.
C
I'll say no rapping, but. And by the way, I'd also like to see him rescind the landmines to Ukraine. I've been with you all the way on Ukraine. You lost me on the landmines. Can't do it.
Alison Gill
Got it. All right, so before I let you go, let's talk about all of the people, because you brought this up briefly a minute ago before we started talking about what Joe Biden can do. Joe Biden, my buddy, my uncle. Well, let's talk about all of the sex offenders that have been, that have been appointed. We know about Matt Gaetz. The reports came out today that they there was apparently a Paula Reid at CNN had contacted Matt Gaetz and said, we're about to run a story that you actually had two sexual encounters with that minor. And that's when he decided to withdraw.
C
Well, CNN called him and said we want to comment in one hour. And in 45 minutes he withdrew. This is the day after we found out he paid one 18 year old girl 4,000 and another 18 year old girl 6,000.
Alison Gill
Yes, and we have copies of the checks for. For tuition though, by the way. Just for tuition or some of it was tuition.
C
Some of it was just for being you.
Alison Gill
Yeah. Which kind of reminds me of the Harlan Crow Nazi paraphernalia collector who paid the tuition of Clarence Thomas's kid, but that was actual tuition.
C
Friends.
Alison Gill
Now let's talk about McMahon. Linda McMahon. I think it's Linda. She's the wife of. Of the other McMahon guy, the head of the wrestling.
C
Wrestling lady in charge of schools. Yeah, fake wrestling lady in charge of schools.
Alison Gill
And apparently she had an employee that was a pederast and was molesting children and said, you know, as long as you knock that off, I'll hire you. And, and, and then turn the other cheek, hit it. And helped cover it up. So she's like a Jim Jordan in that way.
C
So, I mean, it's with her husband Vince. And she had said at the time when she found out that she would leave and then of course money was exchanged and she never left him. So she gets to fit into the sex pest nest as well. She had a chance to do this. And again, her complete lack of qualification and lying about her degree doesn't seem to matter to maga. This is why I'm so afraid that Matt Gaetz and RFK are so outrageously awful. We're going to ignore the Linda McMahon's and the Tulsi Gabbards, but you got to lean in for how Mag is defending these people. Ms. Gill, because Matt Gaetz is so innocent he resigned from Congress to keep the report from coming out after asking for a pardon. Pete Hegseth is so innocent of sexual assault that he actually paid the woman to keep quiet and sign an NDA. RFK Jr is so innocent of groping that he apologized via text to his babysitter 30 years later after he was running for president. And Donald Trump is so innocent that only 26 women have come forward to say he did to them what he brags on tape he likes to do. In many ways, I think losing Gates this early is like losing George Santos from Congress. I always thought that was a mistake. Why do you want to replace this guy with a competent conservative? I'm terrified that now Donald Trump will get someone who's competent and not a lightning rod to do his evil bidding, when in reality we could have Had Matt Gaetz to hang over his neck. This is the face of the Republican Party, and it's the face of modern evangelical Christianity that would rather persecute innocent transgender people than hold rapists accountable for their crimes.
Alison Gill
Yeah, and. And we'll end with that. Then let's talk about Nancy Mays.
C
Can I end with one more piece? Can I end with one more thing to remind you?
Alison Gill
Oh, yeah.
C
Just because I love your listeners and every show I do, I meet so many people who are part of the Beans family. Guys, please remember right now, as of this week, since the last time I was here, Ms. Gill, Donald Trump has dipped below 50%. Okay? He's at 49. Harris is at 48. State. It's maybe a 1.6% difference. A quarter million votes in three states and she would have won it. Trump is saying he had a very big mandate, a red wave. It wasn't. It was 20, 20 people not showing up. That's what it was. But again, he's below 50%. He has a margin of the popular vote victory. That's only half of what Hillary Clinton had in 2016. He's below. By being below 50%. Only JFK in 60 and Nixon in 60 had a smaller margin of victory. Like, like only Grover Cleveland and William Jennings Bryan and Donald Trump have been Bush candidates to. What's that?
Alison Gill
Bush in 2000.
C
No, no, but, but people who ran for president three times and never got 50% of the vote in any election. Grover Cleveland, William Jennings Bryan and Donald Trump. I mean, in a sane country, under 50% of the vote, we'd have a runoff. But, but just remember, Kamala Harris has the fourth most votes of any presidential candidate in American history, the second most by any Democrat ever. She got 4 million more votes than Obama had in, oh, 8. 7 million votes than Obama had in 12. 7 million more votes than Hillary Clinton had in 16, and 10 million more votes than Donald Trump had in 2016. There is no mandate. Please, everybody, stay engaged. Despair is privileged. We'll talk each other off a led, but there's still more of us. And now Donald Trump. We can tell the history books the majority of Americans voted against Trump three elections in a row.
Alison Gill
Yeah, we can still say that. We'll talk about Nancy Mace another time. But I appreciate you coming on and everybody you have. If you're a new listener, you've just experienced fugal saying Fridays on the Daily Beans. Thank you so much, everybody. Check them out. Weeknights, 9pm Eastern, 6 Pacific, on XM progress channel 127. With the tell Me Everything show, which I, I love. And then of course the John Fugal Saying show podcast wherever you get your pods. Thank you again my friend and we will talk to you next week.
C
Thank you Queen. Peace.
Alison Gill
Everybody stick around. We'll be right back with the good news. Everybody. Welcome back. It's time for the good news. Who likes good news? Everyone? Then good news everyone. Good news. And if you have any good news you want to submit to us, all you have to do is go to dailybeanspod.com and click on contact and submit your good news along with your pod pet tax, which is really just a photo of your pet. If you want us to guess what breeds are in your shelter, pup or cat, we're happy to try to do that. We're very bad at it. But we've noticed that there are some dogs that really get around. Like every dog has some chow chow in it and some Staffordshire terrier in it and a little pity in it. But let us know. And if you if you don't know, then that means we're right. So I love that too. If you don't have a pod pet, you can send an adoptable pet in your area and we'll try to find him a forever home. And if you don't have that, you can send us any animal photo really. And then if you don't have that, any baby photos, your baby photos, your baby's baby's photos, a random baby on the Internet. We love baby pictures, so just send those to us as well. Also, we love shout outs. Whether you have a shout out to your spouse or a loved one or a partner or a best friend or somebody doing amazing community activism in your area, a small business that could use a boost near you or your own small business. I know we have a lot of makers and creators and entrepreneurs who listen to this show. We would love to hear what you're doing, share it with us. We love self shout outs too. So if you want to toot your own horn, we are here for it. We love those. Also shout outs to government programs while we still have them. Let us know if any any of them have helped you or a loved one. Whether it's Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care act, which is also Obamacare. I just want everybody to understand it's the same thing. Or you know, if it's Head start or section 8 or snap or WIC, anything like that at all. Maybe some great VA healthcare you've gotten and of course student debt forgiveness. We love those stories too. Send it all to us dailybeanspot.com, click on contact first up from Sarah Pronouns they she like I'm guessing all of your listeners. I'm anxious as fuck about the next four years, mostly as a VA employee. I'm pretty nervous about my job security after 12 years. I don't really know anything else and I'm really fucking good at what I do. I just wanted to share a little joy and hilarity from my 5 year old. The little this little gremlin came at me in the middle of the night bawling because he didn't have a fish tank in his room. We have no idea where this came from, but it has to be the funniest thing to happen to us in the last five years. Sarah I worked at the VA for like 12 years too. My last couple were at the Trump administration. I know exactly how you feel. I'd love to know more about what you do for the VA and maybe I can help with some advice or something. But thanks for that, Sarah all right.
Dana Goldberg
This one's from Mad Hen, pronounced she her like just under half the country apparently. I went into a depression spiral when the outcome of the presidential election became apparent. I stayed there for a week or so, listening only to Keith Olbermann to keep me sane as most of the other quote, liberal podcasts immediately started sane washing Trump and starting the cy. Thank you cover your ass procedures to stay on the air. I'm not sure how I stumbled upon your podcast, but when I did you mentioned starting a four year project as a way to stay positive and the heavens opened and light shone down on me. I realized that my life has been in the polluted river of Trump for years now and part of my depression was the realization that I would have to lose another four years, hopefully no more than that of precious time to trying to keep my head afloat in disgusting stream of insanity that is sure to come. So I've started working towards a fitness goal with short and long term markers. Thanks to you. I've also started Countdown on my laptop. I have a I've started a F Trump diary where I can daily record things that I do that counter or at least mitigate the things he loves. Today I signed up for to be a poll worker. I found a source other than Amazon to buy a binder and I want for my F Trump diary and listen to both you and Oberman on my podcast while working out my pod Pet tax is my black lab Brooklyn. I love that she's a retired law Enforcement canine. And her subtle way of telling me she wanted to go out for a walk when we were traveling was to grab one of my shoes and bring it to me. She's 10 years old now, and I hope she'll be with me at the other end of this very dark tunnel. Oh, my God. Brooklyn is adorable.
Alison Gill
This is so cool.
Dana Goldberg
I love that. Hey, are you ready to go for a walk? I am, too.
Alison Gill
I am a police dog. Ma'am, I need you to take your shoe and put it on your foot and we need to go outside. That's so great, Madhen. Thank you for that. I'm glad you found us. I really appreciate those kind words. I noticed the CYA procedures as well. It was very troubling to hear from my cohorts, so I appreciate that submission. Next up from Amanda. She and her. Oh, my God, look at this baby. Hello, queens of the beans. Long term listener here and borderline dependent on the beans as I can't go a week without them. I wanted to give good news and a shout out first to New York State for giving paid family leave so that I can bond with my newborn while getting paid, allowing me to spend priceless time with my family and pay my bills. It's not as long as anyone would like, but it's a lot longer than most states have. Second, I'd love to give a shout out to my children, M, who will be two next week, and S, who is 15 weeks old. They are the absolute. They make me laugh every day. Most of all, their beautiful souls give me hope to get through each day, especially through these tough times. Here's a picture of M, who's an absolute vibe, obsessed with planets, can count to and from 50, knows her ABCs. If she's not president someday, she will at least be somebody's boss. And S, who has a smile with a dimple that I'm sure would create world peace. Love you ladies and all of the Leguminati. Thanks for your dedication to the good fight. Oh, you don't understand. First of all, first of all, EM.
Dana Goldberg
Is an absolute vibe, and this baby, my goodness.
Alison Gill
Okay, first of all, that is another baby onesie. I would like in my size.
Dana Goldberg
100%. Absolutely. And I think it's a polar bear on the front. Yes, please.
Alison Gill
Oh, my God. So adorable. Thank you so much for that. We needed that.
Dana Goldberg
That was awesome. This is from Candace. No pronouns given. Good morning, ladies. I just wanted to write in to share a quick bit of good news and encouragement in this desolate hellscape along with a small business Shout out. I've been weightlifting and focusing on my health for a few years now, but kind of felt like I hit a wall the last few months. Wasn't seeing the progress I wanted. After the election I took a week off to cry, eat chips and generally loathe humanity. Same same. I eventually snapped out of it, mostly out of a lack of other options, but I wanted to shout out the crew at Little Black Heart Coffee Company in North okay Tonawanda, New York when I was feeling down and like I couldn't go anywhere without being surrounded by Trump signs and other reminders of just how hopeless things feel. Into that coffee shop and I was surrounded by good vibes, smiles and great coffee. I had a short conversation with a few patrons in the Barista about nothing in particular, but it was enough to brighten my day and remind me that there are good people and things worth fighting for. It made me feel less alone. So if you're in Buffalo area please consider checking them out. Once I got back to the gym I started hitting new personal goals and Yesterday I benched 110 pounds after being stuck at 105 for what felt like forever. Maybe I got swole lifting chips and coffee to my face.
Alison Gill
Who knows?
Dana Goldberg
Goodness I love you. Anyways, it was a reminder that sometimes taking a break is what you need for long term Progress. Being productive 100% of the time is pretty deeply rooted for a lot of us, but rest and recovery are just as important for pot Pet tax. You said recently that corgis have the best butts and I submit Angus for consideration. Best paired with a Thong Song by Cisco Thong Thong. Thanks for all you do ladies. Everyone hang in there and love each other.
Alison Gill
That is a good butt it looks like. Yeah, that's a good. That's a good dog butt right there.
Dana Goldberg
And this is awesome. Thanks for the submission. You're also a fantastic writer, right?
Alison Gill
So good. Appreciate you. All right, next up, Kristen Pronoun. She and her hello Allison and Dana. I wrote a few months back when my son adopted a ginger kitten after we lost our other sweet girl, Freddie. I remember Flash, who's now named Swede, has grown into a crazy big boy who spends half of his time tightrope walking on top of the television. To my husband's dismay. Swede, I suspect, thinks his name is either no or Off Ag. You were right, he does truly have a fun personality. I wanted to write to give a shout out and tell about some self care that I was blessed to be part of. Last weekend I joined a progressive Woman's Facebook group here in Knoxville, Tennessee. After the election I was feeling like I either wanted to crawl under the bed and not come out for four years or I needed to find some like minded people that I would feel safe with. One member put herself out there very similar to a dating profile, introducing herself and suggested that we should continue to develop this community together. Well, I'm happy to report that the eight of us met for dinner last Saturday night. It was wonderful to be in the company of people I can relate to in this very MAGA state. You do not realize how alone you can feel being surrounded by people who now especially feel very alien to you. I even mentioned your suggestion previously about us menopausal women helping those in the trans community in the coming years by filling prescriptions for hormones. In the past I have not been one to put myself out there as I'm fairly introverted, but after the results of the election it now feels different. You know, it feels like we really need to come together and truly support each other as well as those who cannot have a loud enough voice. I'm a white, middle aged, straight female. I by birth alone have privileges that others don't. I encourage all the Beans listeners to please find your groups of misfits. I hope you can uplift your voices for those who may feel the need now to be silent and please start to prepare for the coming storm for Pet Tax. Here's a picture of our three furry family all together. Gus is the yellow lab. Audie is a mixed breed who you already attempted what the Mutt previously and Swede. Swede loves the treadmill. He ends up using it more than the rest of us. Thank you AG&DG for continuing to give us voices and encouraging us all to be our best selves. Look at these sweet babies.
Dana Goldberg
I love it.
Alison Gill
No kitty cat on the treadmill. What a nerd. I love this. I love that you got together and are working together. That's so great. Anyway, thank you so much for this submission and thanks to all of you for your good news submission. It's been a hell of a week and the good news is getting us through. So please continue to send us all your good news. Anything you can think of. Dailybeanspod.com and click on Contact. There'll be a new episode of the Jack Podcast this Sunday. Listen to the Jack Podcast while it still exists. And then of course clean up on aisle 45 patrons. There'll be a bonus episode with me and Pete this weekend. I'll do a weekly beans wrap up for patrons of the Daily Beans on Saturday, probably, hopefully. And we'll be back in your ears on Monday. Do you have any final thoughts today? Dana?
Dana Goldberg
No, I don't. Just love you all. That's it. That's it.
Alison Gill
All right, everybody, thanks so much and we'll see you on Monday. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health and take care of your family.
Dana Goldberg
I've been AG and I've been dg.

Podcast Summary: The Daily Beans – "Lap Dog Replacement" (Feat. John Fugelsang)
Release Date: November 22, 2024
Host: Allison Gill and Dana Goldberg
Guest: John Fugelsang
In the episode titled "Lap Dog Replacement," hosts Allison Gill and Dana Goldberg delve into a series of high-profile political developments shaping the current landscape. Kicking off the discussion, Alison Gill highlights several major headlines:
Matt Gaetz Withdraws as Attorney General Nominee: Amidst allegations of sexual misconduct involving underage individuals, Matt Gaetz steps back from consideration for the Attorney General position.
Bolsonaro Charged in Coup Plot: Brazil's former President Jair Bolsonaro faces charges for allegedly orchestrating a coup to destabilize the nation's democracy.
ICC Issues Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu: The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of crimes against humanity related to the Gaza conflict.
Pete Hegseth's Sexual Assault Report Released: A comprehensive police report detailing allegations of sexual assault against Pete Hegseth is made public.
Trump Nominates Pam Bondi as Attorney General: In a swift move, Donald Trump nominates Pam Bondi to replace Gaetz as Attorney General, raising questions about potential recess appointments to bypass Senate confirmation.
Dana Goldberg expresses skepticism about Pam Bondi's viability for Attorney General, citing her past legal confrontations with Trump over Trump University fraud. She states:
"She didn’t rape a minor. ... Pam Bondi is the new nominee for Attorney General. Just within hours, like, he was ready to go."
(01:14)
Alison Gill discusses the mechanics of potential recess appointments Trump might leverage to confirm Bondi without Senate approval:
"If the Senate agrees to recess for 10 days by a simple majority vote, then Trump can make his appointments without Senate confirmation."
(02:03)
The hosts analyze the slim majority Republicans hold in the Senate, suggesting that achieving a recess vote might be challenging. They ponder the implications of Bondi's nomination, referencing past instances where her actions favored Trump, such as halting investigations into Trump University after receiving campaign donations.
Drawing from a report by the Tallahassee Democrat, Alison Gill outlines the circumstances leading to Matt Gaetz's withdrawal:
"Matt Gaetz, Trump's controversial choice for attorney general, withdrew his nomination Thursday... 'I will be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as attorney general.'"
(05:45)
Gaetz's resignation comes amid severe allegations of sexual misconduct, including claims of trafficking minors. Despite his denial of these allegations, the emerging ethical concerns overshadow his nomination. Dana Goldberg remarks on the rapid response to the allegations:
"Jesus. Of course he was."
(07:59)
The discussion extends to the potential political maneuvers surrounding Gaetz's position in Congress, with speculation about special elections and possible Senate appointments involving Ron DeSantis.
The hosts address the serious charges against Jair Bolsonaro:
"Federal Police confirmed on Thursday that investigators had concluded their long-running investigation into what they called a coordinated attempt to violently dismantle the constitutional state."
(12:50)
Allison draws parallels between Brazil's situation and recent U.S. political turmoil, reflecting on the dangers of authoritarian shifts:
"We could have been having the same thing if enough people had got out and voted."
(16:27)
The episode covers the ICC's unprecedented move to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alongside other high-profile figures:
"The world's top war crimes court, that's the ICC, issued arrest warrants Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defense minister and Hamas's military chief."
(10:51)
Dana Goldberg emphasizes the gravity of these accusations, while Allison Gill discusses the international ramifications and the potential isolation of Israel:
"The move, 'quote, represents the most dramatic step yet in the court's involvement in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.'"
(16:27)
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to dissecting the detailed police report on Pete Hegseth's alleged sexual assault:
"The report runs 22 pages and details the allegation leveled by a woman who claimed in 2017 that she was sexually assaulted by the cable news host at a Republican women's conference."
(21:31)
Dana Goldberg provides a content warning before summarizing the report, highlighting the Police Department's findings and Hegseth's vehement denial:
"The report includes accounts of several police officers who spoke to Hegseth... According to the report, the police were first made aware of the alleged assault when Doe... submitted for a rape kit exam."
(22:55)
Both hosts express deep distress over the allegations and criticize the nomination process that allows such figures to ascend to powerful positions without thorough vetting.
In a special segment, John Fugelsang joins the hosts for "Fugal Saying Fridays," discussing the current media landscape and political strategies:
"We're in progressive media... It's a great time for independent media."
(31:30)
