Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Friday, July 12, 2024. Today, inflation declined in June for the first time since lockdown. May 2020, US and Germany foiled a Russian plot to assassinate an arms manufacturer sending weapons to Ukraine. The Heritage foundation was hacked by a group of self described gay furries. House Republicans fail spectacularly again as they failed to get the votes for inherent contempt for Merrick Garland. The IRS crackdown on millionaire tax cheats nets a billion dollars in revenue. Fewer than 13% of Americans are making less than $15 an hour. That's down from 32% two years ago. And the Senate has passed Senator Ossoff's bill to improve oversight of federal prisons. I'm Allison Gill.
Dana Goldberg
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
Allison Gill
Hey, Dana. Big news day. Happy Friday.
Dana Goldberg
Happy Friday to you.
Allison Gill
I left the gay furry story for you. I thought you.
Dana Goldberg
Thank you. I appreciate that. Yep.
Allison Gill
Yeah, I know we talked about it a little bit last night in Portland, which was incredible. Thanks to everyone who came out to the Portland show. You were right yesterday. It was awesome.
Dana Goldberg
I mean, my goodness, you guys were on fire, all of you. The energy in there, the love, it was just so much fun. It was my first live Bean show. And I just. I'm super excited about tonight. Obviously, by the time you hear this, Seattle will have happened. And I know that you were equally as awesome.
Allison Gill
Yes. As a matter of fact, yes. And it's Friday, so it's Fuglsang Friday, so we're going to get to talk to John Fugelsang later in the show. And this was pretty funny last night after the Portland show, Dana, I. I stayed back, I stayed behind to make sure that all the staff got tipped out and that we were closing up the merch station and everything. And Andy and y' all kind of had taken off by the time I was trailing out of there. I got to back to the hotel. I sat down at the hotel bar to have like a glass of wine before I go to bed, and there's this really nice friendly guy sitting there. And he's like, oh, hey, how's it going? And like, the first thing he says to me is, you won't believe who was just here.
Dana Goldberg
This is fantastic, by the way.
Allison Gill
I, I was like, oh, really? Was somebody famous here? And he goes, you will never guess who it was. It was this guy. And I was like, I feel like I know that guy from somewhere. I feel like I know him from somewhere. And I said, I, I bet you if I tell you what, I bet I can guess who was here. He's like, no, you'll never guess in a million years. I was like, if, if I get it right, you have to buy me a drink. And he's like, okay. And so I said, Was it Andy McCabe?
Dana Goldberg
And he was like, what? How the hell did you know that? That's so funny.
Allison Gill
I was like, you know what? I heard he was in town. It was just, it was really funny. So I had a really good time in Portland and now I'm in Seattle. It's absolutely beautiful here. Can't wait to see you all tonight. Also, just a real quick thing. The House voted no on Anna Paulina Luna's resolution to hold Merrick Garland in inherent contempt and fine him $10,000 a day until he hands over that audio interview between Special Counsel Robert her and, and, and President Biden. And they, it failed. They couldn't get the votes. They can't get shit done.
Dana Goldberg
Means Republicans came and joined the Democrats and said, go yourself.
Allison Gill
Pretty much this is the same thin majority. Think of everything the Democrats got done with Nancy Pelosi with the same like when we. How embarrassing for Republicans. And also hilarious. I cannot wait to get the gavel back. I can't wait for Hakeem Jeffries to be speaker of the House. It's going to be amazing.
Dana Goldberg
Same, my friend. Same. Yeah.
Allison Gill
All right. Well, we have a lot of news to get to today. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up, incredible economic news. This is from the Washington Post. Inflation eased more than expected in June, handing the Federal Reserve officials another dose of encouraging data as they inch closer to cutting interest rates and giving long awaited relief to households and businesses. Data released Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that prices climbed about 3% compared with last year, an improvement from the 3.3% annual figure notched in May. Prices also fell 0.1% over the previous month. And additionally, a key measure of inflation that strips out more volatile categories like food and energy rose 3.3% over the past 12 months. That is the smallest annual increase. That is the lowest inflation since April of 2021. Now, Joe Bruceuelis, chief economist at RSM, summed it up this way. He said, it's better than good.
Dana Goldberg
There you go.
Allison Gill
It's log. It's log. It's better than bad. It's good. Other core parts of Americans budgets also saw relief. Gas prices are at a new low, significant drop. They fell 3.8% in June, more than enough to offset the rise in shelter costs. Energy prices also fell 2%. That's the same level as the month before. And speaking of energy, Dana, for the first time in history, the United States is generating more energy from wind than coal.
Dana Goldberg
That's incredible.
Allison Gill
That is so fantastic. And it's all thanks to the Inflation Reduction act and another statistic. Just 13% of workers in the US are earning less than $15 an hour. Two years ago it was 32%. Wow. And this is new data from Oxfam. So it was 1 in 3 and now it's like 1 in 7, 1 in 8. It's incredible. And that even accounts for inflation. $15 an hour in 2024 has the same buying power as about $14 in 2022. This is remarkable progress.
Dana Goldberg
They need to keep hammering these things.
Allison Gill
Yeah, yeah. Well, the news is busy with Joe. Biden is old. And if that weren't enough good news. The treasury and the IRS announced that a year long effort under the Biden administration to CR delinquent rich taxpayers has reached a major milestone. They have collected a billion dollars as a result of this campaign. A large sum in tax debt from high income individuals is a result of the tax agency's $60 billion modernization initiative to improve customer service and catch rich tax cheats. It's incredible is a big win for Biden and the Biden administration which sought to increase funds for IRS tax enforcement over the objections of Congressional Republicans who slashed 20 billion from the proposed effort. This ignited the administration's zeal to demonstrate that the funds are being used to collect responsibly and to bring in additional tax revenue that was going uncollected. This is all again the Inflation Reduction act from August of 2022. It's what contained the increased IRS funding that helped the agency expand. And if the funding remains as it is, the IRS investment is more enforcement technology and data that could bring it up to 851 billion by 2034. Now the IRS commissioner, Daniel Werfel, told reporters that in the past the agency didn't have enough funding to pursue these high income earners despite knowing that they owed money. But with a larger enforcement staff, wealthy taxpayers who owe money were tracked down, sent letters and in some cases threatened with penalties until they complied. Not to mention, we had a Trump property owner as an IRS commissioner for a while there. So he's gone. But Werfel said rich taxpayers perhaps didn't think the IRS had the bandwidth to come after them. Quote, our message for these taxpayers is that now that we're resourced, we can do the job of ensuring that you pay. That's what he said. So far, the IRS has spent 5.7 billion, just 10% of its inflation Reduction act funding. And that's according to an inspector general's report.
Dana Goldberg
All right, thank you so much, Ag. And more good news is coming from pbs, their news channel. Congress has passed legislation overhauling oversight and bringing greater transparency to the crisis plagued federal Bureau of Prisons, allowing reporting from the Associated Press that exposed systemic corruption in the federal prison system and increased congressional scrutiny. The bill, unanimously approved by the Senate on Wednesday. When does that ever happen? Would force the Justice Department's inspector general to conduct comprehensive inspections of the prison agency's 122 facilities, provide recommendations to fix problems, and assign each facility a risk score. The Federal Prison Oversight act, which the House passed in May, now goes to President Joe Biden to sign into law. The bill would also establish an independent ombudsman to investigate problems within the agency in the wake of rampant staff on inmate sexual abuse, prisoner escapes and high profile deaths. It was introduced by Senator John Ossoff, the badass in Georgia. Mike Braun, he's a Republican in Indiana. And Dick Durbin, the Democrat from Illinois. An ongoing Associated Press investigation has uncovered deep, previously unreported flaws within the Bureau of Prisons, the Justice Department's largest law enforcement agency with more than 30,000 employees, 158,000 inmates, and an annual budget of about $8 billion. AP reporting has revealed rampant sexual abuse and other criminal conduct by staff, dozens of escapes, chronic violence deaths and severe staffing short that have hampered responses to emergencies, including inmate assaults and suicide. So the fact that this is happening is good. Our inmates need to be treated humanely. They need to make sure that they are safe. And so I'm glad that this is happening.
Allison Gill
Yeah, me too. I mean, it's, it's not like the, you know, historical work of Jim Comer who is going to bring in the director of the Bureau of Prisons and ask why they wouldn't let Matt Gaetz visit Pete Navarro. I mean, that's the real hard hitting prison oversight that we need in this country. But hats off to Braun and Ossoff and Durbin for putting this together, getting it signed, getting it passed in the Senate, getting it passed in the House and putting it on the president's desk. Add another thing to his list of accomplishments. And this is from our friend Natasha Bertrand at cnn. And we did touch on this briefly at the live show in Seattle. US Intelligence discovered earlier this year that the Russian government planned to assassinate the CEO of a powerful German arms manufacturer that had been producing artillery shells and military vehicles for Ukraine. That's according to five U.S. and Western officials familiar with the episode. The plot assassination plot. The plot was one of a series of Russian plans to assassinate defense industry executives, one of a series across Europe who were supporting Ukraine's war effort. The plan to kill Armin. Let's see. Popperger, a white haired Goliath who has led the German manufacturing charge in support of Kyiv, was the most mature of the plans. When the Americans learned of the effort, they informed Germany, whose security services were then able to protect Paupager or Pauperger. I'm not sure how you say it, but they foiled the plot. A high level German government official confirmed that Berlin was warned about the plot by the United States intelligence. That's incredible. And for more than six months, Russia has been carrying out a sabotage campaign across Europe, largely by proxy. It has recruited local amateurs for everything from arson attacks on warehouses linked to arms for Ukraine to just petty acts of vandalism, all designed to stymie the flow of weapons from the west to Ukraine and blunt public support for Kyiv. But the intelligence suggesting that Russia was willing to assassinate private citizens underlined to Western officials just how far Moscow is willing to go in a parallel shadow war it's waging across the West. Pawager was an obvious target. His company, Grimetall, is the largest and most successful German manufacturer of the vital 155 millimeter artillery shells that have become the make or break weapon in Ukraine's grinding war of attrition. The company is opening an armored vehicle plant inside Ukraine in the coming weeks in an effort that one source familiar with the intelligence says was deeply concerning to Russia. After a series of gains earlier this year, Moscow's war effort once again stalled amid redoubled Ukrainian defenses and punishing losses in personnel. A series of assassination plots never previously reported helps explain the increasingly strident warnings from NATO officials about the seriousness of the sabotage campaign, one that some senior officials believe risks crossing the threshold into armed conflict in Eastern Europe. Quote we're seeing sabotage, we're seeing assassination plots, we're seeing arson. We're seeing things that have cost human lives. That's a senior NATO official telling reporters on Tuesday. I believe that he says very much that we're seeing a campaign of COVID sabotage activities from Russia that have strategic consequences Now. The NSC National Security Council declined to comment, but a spokesperson said Russia's intensifying campaign of subversion is something that we're taking extremely seriously and have been intently focused on over the past few months. And Russia's sabotage campaign has been a major point of discussion among NATO officials gathered in Washington for the 75th anniversary of NATO. And NATO has sought to improve intelligence sharing across the alliance so that the nations will be able to connect the dots between what otherwise might appear to be disparate criminal activities unique to their own country. But the campaign, and in particular Russia's willingness to take lethal action against European citizens on foreign soil has raised questions about how the alliance should respond. In theory, Dana, under Article 5, an armed attack on a NATO member state is an attack on all. And Russia's sabotage campaign has at times smacked of a shotgun approach carried out by amateurs. Some of the crimes linked to the campaign have not had obvious links to the conflict. In Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk publicly suggested that a fire at an IKEA in Lithuania could have been the work of Russia. For example, in Poland, CNN has reported a Ukrainian man was recruited over telegram by a Russian handler he never met in person and was paid $7 to spray anti war graffiti. And later he was asked to plant surveillance cameras and burned down the fence of a Ukrainian owned transportation company. Some analysts have referred to the effort as a hybrid campaign. One that uses non military tools like propaganda, deception and sabotage. But U.S. and European officials are gradually hardening against defining Russia's sabotage efforts that way. Quote, I fundamentally reject the idea that what we're seeing is a hybrid campaign from Russia. These are hybrid elements of it. When I think of hybrid, I think of defacing monuments. That's what the senior NATO official said. Things like that meet the traditional definition of below the threshold of armed conflict because Russia is recruiting operatives to carry out arson and plotting assassinations, lethal action. Quote, I'm not as confident as those that all fall below the threshold of the hybrid of what hybrid implies. So a little bit more important than, you know, defacing statues. Yeah, it's not, it's not clear whether the intelligence related to Rheinmetall suggested Russia intended to kill Popperger directly or hire a local Proxy but other Russian efforts have been far more serious than spraying a little graffiti or vandalizing a diplomat's car. US military bases across Europe were placed on heightened state of alert last week for the first time in a decade after the US received intelligence that Russian backed actors were considering carrying out sabotage attacks against US military personnel and facilities. That's huge. In April, two German Russian nationals were arrested for allegedly plotting bomb and arson attacks on targets including US military facilities on behalf of Russia. And in London in March, several men were charged charged with working with Russian intelligence services to set fire to a Ukrainian linked warehouse. Poland is investigating whether an arson attack that destroyed Warsaw's largest mall in May was connected to Russia and has arrested nine people in connection with a Russia linked act of sabotage. The Prime Minister said this in May. And French authorities last month detained a Russian Ukrainian man who was allegedly building bombs as part of a sabotage campaign orchestrated by Moscow. Quote, they're doing it now because they believe that there are a number of elections happening throughout the west, that this is the prime opportunity to try to undermine public support for Ukraine. That's the senior NATO official talking to cnn. That official also said Russia sees a window of opportunity before additional weapons and ammunition promised by the west arrive on the battlefield in Ukraine. For Russia, quote, it's a prime time to target the west in these types of operations to try to undermine, support and prevent the flow of weapons. And Dana, I saved the best for you.
Dana Goldberg
I appreciate it because I think this is going to give us our episode title because gay furries are doing the Lord's work. This is from Miles Klee at Rolling Stone. Self described gay furry hackers breached the Heritage foundation in a cyber attack on July 2nd and on Tuesday they released 2 gigabytes of the conservative think tank's internal data. Now an executive director at the influential organization is so hopping mad that he might as well invest in a kangaroo costume. He is sending out crazy tweets and messages. The hacktivist collective siegesec has been engaged in a campaign called and I quote optrans Rights. I love the story so much. In which it targets government websites with the aim of disrupting efforts to enact or enforce anti trans and anti abortion laws. Heritage foundation was selected due to its Project 2025 plans seen as a blueprint for Donald Trump to reshape the US with sweeping far right reforms should he another term as president. Siege Sec. That's what they told cyberscoop on Tuesday. Group member and I quote veo might be vio but it's Their group member informed the outlet that they aim to provide, quote, transparency to the public regarding who exactly is supporting Heritage, and that the leaked data included, quote, full names, email addresses, passwords, and usernames of individuals leaked to the nonprofit. I'm saying there's a lot of hacking, and listen, I'm not necessarily condoning it, but at least it's being used for good. This material, as the Daily Dot reported, appears to have come from the Daily Signal, Heritage's media and commentary site, which lists one Mike Howell as an investigative columnist. The former Trump administration official in the Department of Homeland Security is also the executive director of Heritage's Oversight Project, an initiative focused on border security, elections, and countering the, quote, influence of the Communist Party of China. It was Howell who contacted siegesec in the wake of the breach to get answers about their motivations. And as he continued to message Vo, his text grew more unhinged and threatening. After declining to talk with Howell by phone, Vo described what it was that they and their hacker furry comrades sought to accomplish. And this is a quote. We want to make a message and shine a light on who exactly supports the Heritage foundation, they wrote. We don't want anything more than that. We don't want money or fame. We're strongly against Project 2025 and everything the Heritage foundation stands for. Howell seemed stunned by the explanation. That's why you hacked us, he replied. Just for that. From there, Howell's tone shifted. We are in the process of identifying outing members of your group, he wrote. Reputations and lives will be destroyed. Closeted furries will be. Sorry. Closeted furries will be presented to the world as the degenerate perverts they are. As VO expressed skepticism that anyone in Siege SAC would be identified and continue to criticize the Heritage agenda as harmful to human rights, Howell invoked biblical authority and seed that the hackers had, quote, turned against nature. And I quote, God created nature, and nature's laws are vicious. It is why you have to put on a perverted animal costume to satisfy your sexual deviances. Everyone, this is a real fucking story. This is the person that is involved with the Heritage Foundation. These are his text messages. This is Howl. He went on to say, are you aware that you won't be able to wear a furry tiger costume when you're getting pounded in the ass in the federal prison I put you in next year? When VO taunted the executive for this outburst and hinted that they would be posting the conversation online, Howell replied, quote, please share widely. I hope the word spreads as fast as the STDs do in your degenerate furry community. This guy sure knows a lot, by the way, about the furry community.
Allison Gill
He really does. And wait until you hear what he says next, because it's a big clue as to what he's into, I think.
Dana Goldberg
He went on to liken furry culture to bestiality, which he called, quote, a sin, prompting Vio to ask him, what's your opinion on vore? And that is, by the way, vorophilia, or vor, which is a fetish typically expressed in erotic art of people or creatures eating one another. Now, a Twitter user shared a screenshot of this exchange Wednesday afternoon, leading Howell to, quote, tweet the post with lyrics from rapper Eminem's 2000 single the Way I Am. Hours later, Howell learned. I know I can't. It just. It's. It's sort of magical. I know it's disturbing everyone, but this is like one of the funniest stories that's. Is there at least there's humor here? Hours later, Howell learned through the daily dots reporting that VO or Vayo and I want to find out, had decided to try to quit their life of cybercrime and that the rest of the collective agreed it was, quote, time to let Seed Sack rest for good, in part to avoid FBI attention. Quote, complete and total victory, Howell tweeted, I have forced the gay furry hackers to disband. Now it remains to be seen whether these hackers, who last year managed to breach NATO systems as well as a major US nuclear lab that they demanded begin research, unquote, creating IRL CatGirls, will truly disappear in the shadows like an empowering fursona. Hacking can be an identity that's hard to give up.
Allison Gill
Up.
Dana Goldberg
Before he congratulates himself anymore, Howell might want to at least change his passwords. This story is brilliantly written.
Allison Gill
It really is.
Dana Goldberg
Some of this is coming to light, and this is what we had talked about. Anyone. I said this at the show in Portland. Anyone who's so vehemently against almost anything, like sex workers, like, you know, what, legalizing sex work, or, you know, trans rights or fetishes. I want to see their search history. All of that should be made public before they get to vote on anything.
Allison Gill
Wow.
Dana Goldberg
I know.
Allison Gill
He, quote, tweeted the screenshot with the lyrics of M. Eminem. Okay. Oh, my God. Yeah, everybody, check this story out at the Rolling Stone. There's more to it. You can see those tweets, and you can see some of the. The texts as well. You can see him quoting Eminem. And he, by the way, it's like he doesn't just quote a couple of lines. It's like really long. It's like the whole song anyway, I can see. And then, and then you will be forced, like I was, to picture the guy in the avatar singing that song karaoke. And if I have to have it in my head, so do you. All right, thank you for that story. And yeah, we're gonna talk to good old John Fugal sang. And then of course, we'll have the good news, but we have to take a quick break, so everybody stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
John Fugelsang
We'll be right back.
Allison Gill
Yeah. Hey, everybody, welcome back. It's Friday on the Daily Beans. That means it's Fugal sang Friday with my friend, host of Tell Me everything on Sirius XM progress channel 127, which you can hear weeknights, 9pm Eastern, 6 Pacific. And then of course, if you can't get enough, which no one ever can, you can listen to the free podcast, the John Fugelsang Show. Welcome my friend, John Fugelsang. Hello.
John Fugelsang
Thank you so much, Ms. Gill. It's great to be back. Thanks for having me. By the way, the day we're taping this is the 248 year anniversary of the statue of King George III being torn down in New York City. It was on this date in 1776. New Yorkers did that in the new nation's capital because we didn't want a king who was above the law from the very get go.
Allison Gill
So when are they putting it back up?
John Fugelsang
The Supreme Court just did it. And our long national nightmare is over. Joe Biden has now been given unearthly superpowers and he has turned down the throne. But there's a very thirsty man baby in the corner drooling for the crown.
Allison Gill
Yes, there is. And let's talk a little bit about that very thirsty man baby and people of his ilk. Because as, as we know, we just had a federal judge appointed by Donald Trump resign his position from the Alaska District Court. And we were like, ooh, I wonder what the scandal is. Bet I can guess. Sure enough, sexual misconduct. And so we see this kind of everywhere in the GOP and at megachurches as well, because we reported a couple of days ago on the beans that Robert Morris, megachurch pastor, head of Gateway, I think.
John Fugelsang
Gateway. Yes, Gateway as in there like a gateway drug to worse cults. Gateway. Correct.
Dana Goldberg
Yes, yes.
Allison Gill
We've been covering him now for a long time, but it's just come out in letters from his lawyers that initially he and his legal team actually blamed the 12 year old.
John Fugelsang
Yes.
Allison Gill
For initiating the sexual conduct. And of course, I couldn't let the week go by without getting your thoughts on that particular story.
John Fugelsang
Well, the worst part about this story, next to what happened to this young girl, is how many Americans won't care, how many Americans won't have a problem because it wasn't like he was doing this with an underage boy, Alison. It was just, well, an 11 year old girl. Now, for those who don't know this story, this guy Morris is one of those revoltingly fake Christians who put his hands on Trump and blessed him. He has this mega church in Texas, has a hundred thousand worshipers weekly. He was a spiritual advisor to Donald Trump and he just confessed to what he called inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady. It was kissing and petting and not intercourse, but it was wrong. And he confessed to a moral failure for decades. Now, by moral failure he means child rape. Okay, it wasn't a young lady. It was an 11 year old child. And if you're, if your kid, if kids got raped by soccer coaches as often as they are raped by preachers and youth pastors, it would be illegal to let your children play soccer in this country. And he said, when I was in my early 20s, there was some inappropriate sexual behavior with the young lady at a home I was staying. He was a young married pastor with a child living in another family's house and raping their child under their own roof. He never mentioned she was 12. And again, it was all this diluted language, moral failure. Now she's a 54 year old grandmother and as you said, the legal documents have been revealed saying they were trying to put her on trial the entire time. And he even lied in his memoir. He said that he got so proud of what a great young pastor he was that he realized his pride was a moral failing. So he decided to walk away from the ministry for a few years. Like this was how he explained his going away for a while because when it was found out he'd been raping a child, the associated pastors did not do the same thing the Catholic Church didn't do, which was pick up a phone and hit the numbers nine and then a one and then a one. Now, when she turned 16, this woman said that he took her out in her car and did try to close the deal. By this time he was pastor at Shady Grove Church. And she finally told a close friend who told her to tell her family. When her father found out, they confronted him and the elders said, okay, you gotta go away. And he lied in his memoir about the reason why he did it. So now he also helped launch the new Apostolic Reformation movement, which Mike Johnson is a part of. And now this child rapist is going to have to lose his ministry for it. But he's not going to have any kind of criminal liability. Nothing's going to happen. And he's not really come forward and apologize for what he really did. He's the right kind of child rapist and he'll be allowed to go on and start a new church.
Allison Gill
Right. And. And it was this week that I learned that churches can and do and need to buy sexual abuse insurance. That's a thing.
John Fugelsang
That's a thing now that churches can buy.
Allison Gill
And that is bonkers.
John Fugelsang
Well, but when you're not taxed, you can afford these things. Ms. Gill, if you thought this through. They're not taxed. They have the extra money. They can do this.
Allison Gill
I'm in the wrong business right now. Here, here's what.
John Fugelsang
No, again, this is. Listen, and by the way, I'm Gl. Baptists are catching up with the Catholics when it comes to molesting children. But again, just like the Catholics, it's not just the act, it's all the other adults who knew about it and chose to sweep it under the rug. The media is barely focusing on the story. And when they do, it's just with the one guy. This child dealt with this abuse for four years, has dealt with it her entire life. And these are the same cretins who slam purity culture down our generation's throat. These are the same godless cretins who throw the word Jezebel around against women. And again, they covered forum. It's always the COVID up worse than the crime.
Allison Gill
And by the way, right, Say I need to close my legs to prevent abortion. Right?
John Fugelsang
Yeah. And again, you need to wear a burqa so I don't rape you. It's the same thing. The fundamentalist. It's always the woman's fault if I put my dick where it doesn't belong. And the damnable thing about it is all these parishioners, the majority of them will gladly vote for a rapist this November, but they draw the line at having a repeated child molester lead their flock.
Allison Gill
Right. Interesting. Right. And you know, you mentioned the media. We haven't heard about this this week or in the. Or really anything in the last couple of weeks, except one story we didn't hear About? I thought that the judge kindred in Alaska should have been 24 7, wall to wall fucking news coverage based on what he did in his chambers to his law clerks and the text messages that he sent should have been a lead story everywhere for days, this Trump appointed judge, but it wasn't. And we haven't heard anything else in the news except the punditocracy and a bunch of rich people who want to put their own candidate at the top of the ticket instead of the candidate that the people voted for in the primaries. And I'm wondering what your thoughts are, because a new report has just come out. Several universities funded to study Northeastern, Northwestern, Harvard, Rutgers, showing that the media is actually doing more damage to Joe Biden's campaign than the debate did.
John Fugelsang
There are, what, a million people in Texas right now who don't have power after Tropical Storm Barrel. And Joe Biden is doing his job and trying to get them federal aid, but it turns out they're not picking up his calls. Greg Abbott is overseas in Asia for a summit. And in spite of all the damage that's being done right now in the beautiful state of Texas, Joe Biden is busy being president, offering them help. And the state of Texas had plenty of time to prepare for the earliest Category five in history. And they're doing what they do again. They're not preparing for natural disasters and they're not taking care of the people once the natural disasters happen. For states to get federal natural disaster aid, they have to make a formal request to the president before the relief can be delivered. And the Biden administration is ready and the request hasn't come. And right now, criminal Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is serving as acting governor. Joe Biden is there trying to be a president, and the media is having a meltdown over the fact that he's 81 years old. They're not talking about all the lies in Donald Trump's debate performance. They're not talking about his first rally in 12 days last night where he lied incessantly. And Seth Abramson has a terrific substack where he documents all the lies Trump told. And if you actually count them with repetitions, when he repeats half a lie, it came out to 602 falsehoods came out of his mouth in 40 minutes. Now, I didn't believe that. I was like, you liberals, they hate us for these exaggerations. And then I actually read it. I'm like, oh my God, he lied so 602 times in 40 minutes. I'm not lying. Look up Seth Abramson substack this civil war is the happiest the demons have been in terms of gaslighting and splitting the left since the horrific Bernie fan Hillary fan wars of ought 16 my granddad told me about. They are splitting the left in ways we haven't seen done in eight years. And all I want to say to everybody is, please, please, please. Good people who want Joe Biden to stay in power and good people who want Joe Biden to step aside, it's all for the same reason. Please know two things. Number one, hating each other helps them. Please don't hate the people who want Joe Biden to do something you don't want Joe Biden to do, please. Because it helps them. It doesn't help you. You're going to be on these people's side after Chicago, okay? Just get to Chicago, people. But number two, here's the thing. If the President were to choose to leave, and I'm saying this every night on Sirius XM and people are so tired of hearing me say it, Ms. Gill, please forgive me, they would never make any kind of announcement. They wouldn't suggest he was going to do that before Donald Trump picks his horrible running mate in Milwaukee. Folks, Donald Trump doesn't get to know what ticket he's running against, okay? Donald Trump would love them to announce that Biden's stepping aside before he has to pick a vice president he's not going to get to. He's going to pick a VP to run against one ticket and hope that it's Biden Harris he runs against. So please keep that in mind. Joe Biden, even if he's planning to leave, and I'm not saying he is, and I'm not saying he should, but they would never announce it and help Donald Trump out like that. So please, let's find other things to freak out about, okay? We know what the media feels about it and we know this is the only story that happened in history. But I mean, when you look at everything else that's happening right now and that our media can't bring themselves to cover anything but this, I mean, I'm talking on the air tonight about all the different stories I read in Axios, in Politico, in the New York Times, in Daily Beast, it's nothing but Biden age stories and nothing about the fact that Donald Trump is unfit to serve. And the lies he tells in debates and in his rallies are proof that he is unfit to serve. And man, oh man, journalists fight for the truth. But as you know, Ms. Gill, the people who Own the media who own. Who pay the journalists. They care about ratings. They need ratings, and they're banking on those Trump numbers.
Allison Gill
Yeah. And I'm not so worried about the people, about the folks out there, Norman. Nor me looking at the increase in Google hits on Project 2024, looking at the backlash that we're seeing against the media, the pundits. No matter what side of this equation you're on, obviously I know that the people will do the right thing in November and prevent Donald Trump from getting back into the Oval Office. My concern is that we are going to have to work harder because of what the media is doing right now. And they're not the ones who have to do the work right.
John Fugelsang
But look, it's going to be hard no matter what. It was going to be hard before this. It was going to be hard before Joe Biden.
Allison Gill
But why make the shit harder, man? I'm already Sisyphus. Why are you piling rocks on top of my already rock that I have to push up this hill?
John Fugelsang
They don't care about democracy or the American people. That's your job. That's your job. That's the job of the very sexually attractive people who listen to this show. It is the progressives who care about.
Allison Gill
Way to reach out to get more listeners to tell me everything.
John Fugelsang
I'm sorry, man, but it is. It is. It is not. It is not the media's job to give a damn about democracy. It's not their job to care about the children or clean air and water. It's not their job to care about a Supreme Court declaring presidents or kings. I mean, how much has America changed this year alone? Joe Biden can't forgive student loan debt, interest, but he can kill people. It's a crime to be homeless, but you can overthrow the government. The EPA can't regulate the water, but judges are going to decide our food safety from now on. It's all crazy out there and the media doesn't care. The media needs us to be glued to the horror show. So please, everybody, detach from the media a few hours every day and then get back in the fight before the day's done because it's going to be a long slog until this convention's over. But I'm telling you, the Democratic Party is going to come out of their convention very energized. Either behind a Joe Biden, everybody feels safe with or behind a nominee. Kamala Harris, not necessarily a president. Joe Biden could easily remain chief executive and have her run in his place as a campaigner and I'm not saying that he should, but. But if it is Harris, then suddenly the age issue, 100% belongs to the Republicans and it's nothing but Roe v. Wade whenever you even look at her. And Donald Trump would have to spend the fall attacking a mixed race woman every day. So.
Allison Gill
And they will. And regardless, we are going to have to do this despite the media and the public.
John Fugelsang
And it doesn't matter who the Democratic nominee is. Let's just all sign an imaginary pact that we all promise to vote for whoever the major party nominee is who wasn't friends with Jeffrey Epstein, Roy Cohn, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, whoever it was that never had child Nazi Nick Fuentes to their house for Thanksgiving dinner is who gets my vote. Really simple.
Allison Gill
I think we can all agree to sign that pledge. Michael.
John Fugelsang
There we go.
Allison Gill
Everybody please give a listen to Mr. Fugelsang over on Tell Me Everything. It's weeknights, 9pm Eastern, 6 Pacific, on the Tell Me Everything Show Series XM progress channel 127 in case you're looking for it. And if you don't have a serious subscription or if you just can't get enough of Fugal Sang like me, you can listen to his free podcast called the John Fugelsang Show. Do you have any final thoughts before we get out of here for the weekend, my friend?
John Fugelsang
Sure thing. Sexy Liberal Tour is playing this weekend in Boston with our special guest Glenn Kirschner. So come on down to that. That's going to be Ariah and we'll be playing in Atlanta Saturday, July 27, because I understand late July is the best time of the year to be in Atlanta. So I can't wait. Come see us on the road. Go see Allison on the road. And listen, man, don't despair. Despair is privilege. They want you to despair every time you feel hopeless. It gives Donald Trump an erection. Don't give Donald Trump an erection. If you feel helpless, go volunteer somewhere. But stay in the game. Your state and local elections matter more anyway. And don't believe the polls. They're only a people who answer landline phones. Please, there's more of us. Get out there and work for it. We got 120 days. Don't let the French beat us at fighting off fascism in this century, people.
Allison Gill
Yes, don't boo. Vote. Don't despair. Work. And might I suggest for you, my friend, your walk up music in Boston. Shipping up to Boston by Dropkick. Murphy's always a crowd pleaser, especially in Boston. And it's Just such a great song. Anyway.
Dana Goldberg
It is.
Allison Gill
Thank you so much, my friend. It's always wonderful to see you. Enjoy the tour. I'm enjoying mine.
John Fugelsang
I know. I can't wait to see yours.
Allison Gill
Everybody. Just. Yeah, deep breath. There's going to be a new episode of the Jack podcast on Sunday. We'll be back the beans on Monday. And don't forget to check out all of the John Fugal saying shows wherever you check out your John Fugal saying shows. We will be right back with the.
Dana Goldberg
Good news after these messages.
John Fugelsang
We'll be right back.
Allison Gill
Everybody. Welcome back. It's time for the good news. Who likes good news, everyone?
John Fugelsang
Then good news, everyone.
Allison Gill
Good news, good news. And if you have good news, confessions, corrections. You want to play what the mutt Find the cat opine on the bovine. What the hell is in that shell? What the heck? Juan, what's the model of your axolotl? Somebody gave us two little axolotl @ the show last night. I absolutely love it.
Dana Goldberg
They did. I had a little model, Allison had a big model.
Allison Gill
And then somebody else made us these beautiful little bejeweled trinkets. These. I, they're. I have it sitting like right here next to me on my desk where I'm recording. I love it. I got some raspberry vodka. Like you all are just so incredible. So send a picture of your pod pet or any animal really. If you want us to play a guessing game with it, tell us what you want us to guess about the animal. We'll see what we can do. Although we haven't really been that great recently. But it's still fun. It's still fun to do. And if you don't have podpet tax to pay, you can send us an adoptable pet in your area. And also we would love to hear a shout out from you. If you have a shout out for a loved one, a family member, a spouse, a self shout out and of course shout outs to small businesses, your small business and government programs, any government program that has assisted you or somebody that you know, whether it's Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, the PACT act, which is for veterans or great VA health care, also of the Affordable Care act and of course student debt relief. Send in all of your good news stories to us. We would love to hear from you. You can do it@dailybeanspod.com and click on contact. All right, first up from Devin they he. First things first. A shout out to all the non binary beans in the Leguminati. It's non Binary Awareness Week, July 7 to July 14, all wrapping up with non Binary People's Day this Sunday. And in honor of this week, I have a bit of a beef I'd like to air. When talking about abortion in the news, please remember women aren't the only people who get or need abortions. Referring to abortion rights as women's rights erases all the non binary folk and trans men who struggle to receive this health care. I implore you to make an attempt to use more gender neutral language in addressing this issue. They aren't just women's rights, but reproductive health care. Or just drop the euphemism altogether and say what you mean. Abortion rights Rights. I'd like to end my submission with some amazing good news. I finally have a government ID with the correct gender marker. I got my passport. We've only had the right to an X gender marker since 2021. It's self attestation, so there's no medical requirements gatekeeping the process, just two extra checkboxes on the renewal form. Devin, I could not be happier for you and I will. I promise to continue and to do my best to remember that same because I know I slip on that sometimes. So thank you for that.
Dana Goldberg
All right. This one's from James in Phoenix. Pronouns he and him. Hi there, Beans Queens. I love listening to the good news. And every time I hear you mention what's the mottle of your axolotl? My brain always wants to translate it to what's the mottle of your axolotl? M O T T L, E. The natural coloration of the axolotl is a speckled gray, AKA mottled. All the awesome coloration we see these days has been bred into the domesticated axolotl. I love this information. My husband and I have had a second home in Mexico City just a few miles from Lake. Oh, goodness. Zocamilcomilco. Huacamilco.
Allison Gill
Yeah, like Oaxaca. Maybe Hakamilco. Maybe. It's usually H those X's.
Dana Goldberg
You're right.
Allison Gill
Oh, look, there's a pronunciation.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, I was right. But not well, I was right with Zozi milk. Xochimilco. Xochimilco. Okay, well, I didn't know why I just put it in Italian. Xochimilco. No. Okay, it's Xochimilco, which is the only place left to find the axolotl in the wild. Thanks for all you do, James. What a great submission.
Allison Gill
Incredible. That's good to know. You wanna take the next one too?
Dana Goldberg
Sure. This is from Kelly. Do you want me to take the Next one. This is from Kelly pronoun she and her so after the debate and the fit the news media is working themselves into to reference Pete on cleanup, I sign signed up to write postcards for swing states and districts. I was going to do swing states only, but I was tempted by seeing Colorado's third on the list. So I'm lined up to write a thousand postcards over the summer. Rage postcarding. Any little bit helps, right? And this introvert prefers postcarding while watching movies.
Allison Gill
Yeah, that's one of the great things about postcarding is it's something that you know because for a lot of folks door knocking is hard. Right?
Dana Goldberg
Like I would rather write postcards than doorknock. And that's for sure.
Allison Gill
For reals. So thanks for that. Thank you Kelly. Next up from James Pronouns he and him Dear AG&DG, my deepest gratitude for your shows. You two are doing so much to support a community of like minded individuals, keeping us well informed without the rage bait. May the wind be always at your back and the road rise to meet you. Thank you.
Dana Goldberg
I love that.
Allison Gill
I was looking for good news and found you too. I was feeling pretty down after my two bonded kittens had passed within six weeks of each other after the honor of 19 years with them. Wow, just seven months ago and hearing your what the Mutt et al section has been great. I wanted to share but I was too raw at the time. And then recently after hearing about some student loan forgiveness, I decided to check to see where mine were. It's been 22 years since I was in college and it seemed like the last 25,000, which was once 115,000 was the hardest and didn't want want to get back on it. I didn't want to get back on it after that nice break. It was hard to deal with and a real drag on me and until now it's been cleared. I thought I was going to be another 10 years paying. Such a relief I had to share. Thank you so much to the Biden administration and to the beans queens for allowing this space for your fans. Here's my podpet tax. Yes, the belly is a trap on Ms. Shetty there on the left and Meowcifer with his big eyes on the right. They were the best kittens ever. Oh I'm sorry you lost them. Yeah yeah yeah James.
Dana Goldberg
Thank you for that.
Allison Gill
Thank you for that though.
Dana Goldberg
Absolutely. This one's from Susan. Pronouns she and her hello leguminaries. I took a deep dive into 1970s music archives and surfaced With Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul and Mary. You youngins look it up at age 77. Why the hell did I do this? Therapy, my friends like your podcast. Wouldn't miss it. My lyrics are more tweaked than misheard. Sing them for more impact. Forget the melody. Go to YouTube. My pop pet taxes our granddaughter Nitz named for the goddess of the night. Put her against a black background and she disappears. Here she is last Halloween rocking the superwoman costume. She is love on four legs. Now here are your lyrics to Trump the Magic Felon. Trump the magic felon lives by the sea and gambles with our future world to push autocracy. Little Johnny Roberts loved that rascal Trump and crowned him king. In other things, our future is the dump. Verse 1 Together they will trample on constitutional rights. Donnie spews his endless lies with all his Nazi might Ignoble men and women will blow to kiss his ass Maga flags are flying high to trigger libs in mass this felon lies forever with a care for you black robes Ignore his vicious crimes to help his evil coup without corruption SCOTUS Trump is not so brave. So listen voters one and all Our nation must use, we must save.
Allison Gill
Oh, very nice.
Dana Goldberg
Then I apologize for I did the best I could is the first time I've seen that. I'm shocked. I even remember the tune Pump the Magic Dragon. And so there you have it, people.
Allison Gill
Yes, and thank you for keeping it to three verses because Puff the Magic Dragon can. Can. Can be a little long. It can be a little long if you've. If you've never hosted karaoke. I'm just saying it can be a little long. That. And if I never hear American Pie again, I'll be Okay.
Dana Goldberg
I gotta argue with that one. I know. One, I didn't know Puff the Magic Dragon was a karaoke go to for people. And two, I actually have a sweet memory with my mom singing American Pie. So that one I'll probably hang on to for a while. But I get it. It's long.
Allison Gill
No, it's a beautiful song. I know how to play it on guitar. The thing is that there's people at the karaoke bar who want to sign up for the 10 minute songs so that they can be up there for 10 minutes. Yeah. And then in between the verses, they'll tell you stories like life things. And then they're the kinds of folks that hold the microphone by the top, which creates feedback. I have. Like, I have. I could write a book on the different kinds of karaoke. People. Yeah. And you know, Grease, the Grease soundtrack kind of done. Also Love Shack. But, you know, these are still good songs, and this was fantastic. Thank you so much, Susan. I love this. And I'm gonna. I'm gonna. I'm copying it and pasting it into my notes right now so I can save it.
Dana Goldberg
It's very good.
Allison Gill
Thank you, everyone, for all of your good submissions. I am so excited to meet everybody up in Seattle tonight, and we'll tell you all about it on Monday's Beans. And of course, there will be an episode of the Jack podcast. Don't ask me how I'm going to get it done, but it'll get done. That comes out on Sunday. Any final thoughts before we get out of here for the weekend?
Dana Goldberg
No, I do not.
Allison Gill
All right, well, thanks to our friend John Fugelsang for joining us for Fugal Sang Fridays, and everybody will talk to you Monday. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the plants. It. Take care of your mental health, take care of your family.
Dana Goldberg
Vote blue over Q and take all.
Allison Gill
That family with you and vote down ballot all the way to the bottom. Don't leave anybody off. I've been AG and I've been dg and them's the beans.
John Fugelsang
Refried beans.
Allison Gill
I like refried beans.
