Well, I learned that. So we're going to San Diego this weekend and we've all been running the MX5 Mazda Miata or whatever the thing is on Iracing. Yeah, because an SVG said that's what

he's been using on the new course.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. At San Diego. And I just learned that SVG is quite a bit faster than I am. Shocker. It was disappointing.

Better than Bale Jr. Well, I only ran six laps now he's been testing and testing for days.

[Amy]

So as he should.

I got some. I could catch him. I think.

He ain't no way he's better than me at iracing.

I've been doing it for 20 years.

Better at me. Road course racing. On iracing maybe. Oh, he is okay. He is on iracing now.

Yep. I'm in a bad mood now.

Two ounces of High Rock vodka and three ounces of pure cranberry juice. Don't. Don't use that. Non pure. And one ounce of pineapple juice.

One and a half ounces of pineapple juice.

I'm sorry, one and a half. One and a half ounces of pineapple juice and it doesn't matter. Pure, unpure pineapple juice.

Can I explain the pure part? Pure cranberry juice doesn't have any extra sugar in it. It's not cranberry cocktail.

Gotcha.

So it's why it's so tart.

Mix all these ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake it up and pour over ice.

But, like, you're probably gonna get less hangovers, though, if it's pure because there's no sugar.

There's not as much sugar. So it's. It's more tart. It's good. It's one of those drinks you could probably make into a batch cocktail too, I feel like. And then put some ice in it and, like, let it ice down. It would be.

I didn't wear a hat today because me and Amy, we got a date tonight.

The date is because today is the anniversary of asking Amy to marry me. Wow. Yeah.

[Amy]

Neither one of us. Can girl math it back to what year that is. It's going to be our 10 year anniversary. But how long were we engaged?

[Dale Jr.]

We were in Germany at the church.

[Amy]

Yeah. So like 14?

[Dale Jr.]

2014.

[Amy]

Yeah. Is that right? No, that can't be right.

[Dale Jr.]

We got married. We got married at the end of 16, so. Did I ask you that in 15?

[Amy]

No, it was a year and a half. I think we had an engagement. I think it was in the summer of 14.

[Dale Jr.]

Got it. Cool, right?

I don't.

What the hell? Doesn't matter. Today was the day it happened all those years ago.

[Amy]

Yeah. So he didn't wear a hat today just for that?

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. No hat today. Because we got dinner.

Last thing. You must come by Junior motorsports and pick you up some jerky boys beef jerky. And if you don't want to come by Junior motorsports to do that, you can get it online or on Amazon.

They did just get a boys of 89 or 98, 100 bags in here. Something like that.

It's going fast. Just so fast.

I sent some to Martin Trix Jr. He liked it.

I've been sending it to all my friends. I sent some to your dad.

You did? Yeah.

Oh, yeah. So I knew that that's been. You know.

Well, we know he likes it because you share it with him when we're there.

He loves it.

So we're mailing it around.

Yeah. But back to when we got engaged.

[Dale Jr.]

Yes. So we're. Oh, well, we're back to what. Why we got engaged when we got engaged.

[Amy]

The experience. Oh, my God.

He is like a golden retriever today.

[Dale Jr.]

Wow.

[Amy]

What did you eat?

[Dale Jr.]

Golden retrievers are awesome. So I'm going take out squirrel.

[Amy]

Where's the freaking squirrel? I should have that. Squirrel should live in here.

[Dale Jr.]

I tried to tell you that. We were trying to. I was trying to tell you. Put it up on that.

[Amy]

No, I want it right here so I can twist it and look like. Do things with it and mess with you.

[Dale Jr.]

[Amy]

So we were in Germany, and we were there for our genealogy. Dale had done a ton of genealogy work on the Earnhardt family and traced them back to this little tiny town in Germany called Ilbersheim. So we went there. We went other places.

[Dale Jr.]

You want to know?

[Amy]

We started in Il Vasheim.

[Dale Jr.]

You want to know? Some anxiety. You want me to give you something That'll give you some anxiety. Imagine banking all of the information that you have about yourself and your family's history that going back 10 generations. So 2026, this was 17, the 1700s. I have trusted everything that the Internet has told me, which we know is pretty risky. And I went and got an expert genealogist in North Carolina to like verify that I was on the right path. And we went to this tiny, tiny town with 300 residents in the middle of nowhere in Germany, because that's where it said I was from. And we went there and rented or we stayed in an inn or a hotel, had four or five rooms and it had a freaking awesome time. We drank with the town folk like the carpenter, plumber, the electrician. They all come there for happy hour every day. And we told them our story and why we were there.

[Amy]

They didn't speak a lick of English, no English. We sat and hung out with them.

[Dale Jr.]

We hung out with them for hours.

[Amy]

And we're completely unable to actually have any real conversation.

[Dale Jr.]

Wheat beer and Hefeweizen and all that. And we, they were laughing and we were laughing and we couldn't tell what either one of us was saying.

[Amy]

Nope, we were all just had a blast, cheersing and singing and having a good old time. At one point we were back behind the bar pouring Jefe's for.

[Dale Jr.]

There was an, there was a gentleman there that would kind of help sort of communicate, you know. Hey, he said this, he wants to know this. He's asking you this.

[Amy]

Oh yeah, the one younger guy. Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

And we told, we brought, we pulled me up on the Google and we're like, hey, look here.

[Amy]

Oh yeah. Remember, this is why we're here.

[Dale Jr.]

This is why we're here and who we are.

[Amy]

And back in the day it was Aaron Hart. So like, anyway, there's still just 300 people living there now. There were only 300 people living there way back then.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. In the 1700s when we left, there were 300 people there. There's only 300 people there now. And luckily that town, that town is clustered together in like a, you know, a 10 block radius. All the houses all together. And because they farmed the land, they didn't, they didn't have farms sprinkled out around through, you know, is everybody lived in the town and, and they went out and farmed and they had a church, one church for everybody. And there was a couple of businesses that operated in this town, but you wouldn't know it. You look at every house there, you look at every building, it Looks like a house. Except for the little winery that we set out. We bought a bunch of wine at.

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

But we drove by this one house. Amy found it where they had some. They had some wedding.

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

So materials and stuff and you bought some stuff.

[Amy]

I did. So we. We sat downstairs and. And hung out with everyone. We were only there for one night, and then we were going to move on to the other cities and go to look at more documents and really kind of get into the.

[Dale Jr.]

We went to the archives. Inspire.

[Amy]

Yes. Inspire. Yes. So we only spent one night and we enjoyed ourselves. We're gonna get up the next morning, go see the church, and then drive on. Well, we had gotten. I was pretty hungover that next morning. And I remember trying to get ready, knowing I was gonna go see a church. I was gonna put on a pretty sundress. Whatever. Kelly comes in and she's like, so when you guys travel, do you guys coordinate your outfits just so your pictures are nice and everything? I was like, no, I didn't even think about that. And she's like, okay, just curious. And I'm like, what a weird question to ask.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, so weird. Well, she was about to blow the COVID She wasn't.

[Amy]

She was just trying to check out what I was wearing just to see.

[Dale Jr.]

She knew my plan.

[Amy]

She knew the plan. I didn't know the plan, of course. So, like, I just thought it was weird. But I was so hungover, I didn't think to ask too many questions.

[Dale Jr.]

I traveled all over the country. I traveled across. I traveled across the ocean with this ring. Me and Amy walking around. I got the ring in my backpack.

[Host/Announcer]

I'd have been nervous.

[Dale Jr.]

Oh, God. It was really nerve wracking.

[Amy]

I was getting ready and blew my curling iron up because I didn't have the proper adapter. The adapter, just curling irons were funny anyway, but so I got half my hair curled and the other half was still really straight. And I was like, crap. So I used Kelly's and like, tried to. It was a straightener. So I had to curl my hair with the other side. On the other side of my head with a straightener. Anyway, it was just like a mishmash, weird kind of morning. Anyway, so we get into the church. We're looking around. It's this tiny, quaint, adorable, like, picture book.

[Dale Jr.]

Thousand year old church. Small, Big as this room.

[Amy]

Biggest room right here.

Murals all over the place and just

stone walls, you know, just old, really

simple, but very light, like, airy. It wasn't dark and like heavy.

[Dale Jr.]

You Know, the pulpit, I guess, or wherever the preacher would. Yeah, it was on this little rise. He kind of walked up this little half spiral staircase up into this little DJ booth in the corner of the room and talked.

[Host/Announcer]

I'm sure it was a DJ booth.

[Dale Jr.]

I mean, it looked like a DJ booth.

[Amy]

In Dale's mind, that's where the DJ stood. I get what you're saying. Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

To paint that picture.

[Amy]

And all the pews were hand painted on the ends too.

[Dale Jr.]

I know we've told this story a thousand times.

[Amy]

Have we?

[Dale Jr.]

We have, but it's so fun. So we're looking around and we're in the middle of the church. We've been there for 15 minutes or more. We were outside looking around. Now we're inside. And there was a guy sort of helping us, like, this is this, this is that. And then they were just like, leaving us be for a bit. And we're just standing in the church, just kind of looking around, admiring things. And Amy turned around and I finally just whipped out that dang ring.

[Amy]

I turned around and he was on his knee. I'm like, what is happening? And Kelly's starting to tear up already. I'm like, holy, you're gonna. At that moment, like, I kind of figured I knew what was about to happen. And Dale had never talked about getting engaged. We have never discussed getting engaged, getting a ring, none of that.

[Dale Jr.]

No, we weren't talking about it.

[Amy]

And so I was very shocked. I mean, shocked is what you're going for when you ask someone to marry you.

[Dale Jr.]

Anyway, we had talked to each other minimally about it, but it was kinda like, yeah, neither one of us are ready for that. I mean, it's kind of where we ended up, essentially.

[Amy]

Yeah.

Kind of how we left it.

And I didn't realize how okay I was with, like, not getting engaged, not getting married. Like, life was fine until that moment. I was, like, totally shocked, blown away. And he said what he said, and I. He got. He gets up and I say yes. And then I'm like, are you sure? Like, are you sure? Sure you want to do this? Like, you got me a ring. Like, I felt like I was completely out of my body. I thought for sure, even if he did ask me one day to get married, that he was going to, like, try to do it with a car or something like that. Because he hates jewelry so much.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, here's a car here.

[Host/Announcer]

Here's a new Chevy pickup truck. Will you marry me?

[Amy]

I mean, we literally never ever talked about a ring. He had no guidance from Me or anything.

[Host/Announcer]

So did he nail the ring?

[Amy]

I mean, it's beautiful. I. I would have. Probably. The only thing I would have done differently, turn my stone sideways. The oval would have been this way. Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

All right.

[Amy]

But I love my ring.

[Dale Jr.]

It's the first time I'm hearing that.

[Amy]

We don't ever. We never talked about it before or afterwards. Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

I went in there and I said, just gotta hit a home run on this thing, man. So we. Me and the Jewel. Jewel. I went to the same jeweler that my dad always went to, so there's some good history there.

[Host/Announcer]

I'm glad it's a surprise because I feel like when they know it, like, it's just not as, like.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah.

[Host/Announcer]

Like, I always think of Lindsay and Carlin Summerhouse and Paige making fun of her when she's like, she wore shoulder pads to the beach. Like, she knew it was happening.

[Amy]

She totally knew. Yeah. She had her hair and makeup professionally done. Of course she knew.

[Host/Announcer]

Yeah.

[Amy]

Yeah. No, I had no idea. The shock value was absolutely there.

[Dale Jr.]

Well, we're. Yeah.

[Amy]

And then in the church, no less. Like, what an amazing place to do that.

[Dale Jr.]

Yes. But massive cool connection.

[Amy]

Yeah. So that was umpteen years ago today.

[Host/Announcer]

Have you gone back there since then?

[Amy]

We have.

[Dale Jr.]

I have to say this, like, did

[Amy]

we go back to Oversheim when we went back, or we just go back to Rothenberg? I have to.

[Dale Jr.]

I have to. We have.

[Amy]

We just. We didn't.

[Dale Jr.]

We didn't go back ever. We did go back to Rotenburg. We need to go back to the inn and all that.

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

Do the whole thing again. Had a very simple breakfasts and stuff, like, you know, just cheese and. And, you know, cold cuts.

[Amy]

They had pastries, they had oatmeal and boiled. Like a farmer's breakfast.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, like a farmer. Yeah. It was very. But it was fine.

[Amy]

All I remember too, about breakfast is LW sitting and eating that bowl of muesli, which usually, like, you soak overnight. And so it looked essentially, it looked like, like deer food. Like. And we just kept telling LW because he takes alfalfa tablets every day. He's very, like, all about hunting. And so we're like, act like a deer, think like a deer, be a deer. Just every time he'd sit down with his breakfast, because that's what he chose to ate. Was that like just seeds?

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. I had thought for a while about asking Amy to marry me. And the hold up was how to do it and how to make. Because I wanted it to be as good as it could. Possibly be. And her point. To her point. I'm mean, I was always around a racetrack. I was always around racing. I was like, God, where could I go? Where could I do this? Nothing. Nothing seems to make sense. No location, no process. Nothing seems to be good enough. Can't just go to some nice dinner. Can't just take her to some city. This like a vacation spot. I can't just. You know what? And I had told everybody that I was going to this town when I turned 40, I was going to go there and drink a beer and if. And so it just kind of all lined up. I was like, all right, that's the place. Like that. That would be the trip. That would be the in. In a lo. In that location where my family worshiped 300 years ago.

[Amy]

That's a hell of a risk, too. It was the beginning of the trip. What if I had said no?

[Dale Jr.]

Oh, man, that would have just.

[Amy]

You weren't gonna derailed the whole damn thing. You didn't know. I mean, no guy actually knows that, though. Like, when you ask, he knew by

[Host/Announcer]

doing it early, it basically helps get the. Yes.

[Amy]

It made the rest of the trip feel like a honeymoon.

[Dale Jr.]

To be honest, I felt pretty confident.

[Amy]

Yeah, I know you did. When are you not? I wish I was as confident as you are.

You know, I'm not always that confident.

So music is really impactful on me and probably everybody the same way. And I don't know why or how, but a couple weeks ago I got locked on to Timberland and like Nelly Furtado and all that.

[Amy]

Are you listening to a specific station?

[Dale Jr.]

No, I. I might have been listening to some random station or something in their Timbaland song came on and I went, damn it, man. He was. He had a run.

[Host/Announcer]

Dale's jamming out to some man eater.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, he had a run. And, you know, he did some songs with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. And there was just like this little, like two, three year window where they had like this really solid couple of handful of songs.

[Amy]

He was playing Promiscuous Girl on the

[Dale Jr.]

way over here, like one of them. It's so good. And so I started listening to it. I'm like, man, we played these out of this stuff. And I remember when it was all over MTV and I was watching MTV quite a bit back then, probably, and I was like, amy, you must have been in college or somewhere, you know, in between graduating high school or going to college, and you're probably 20, 22 years old. And I was thinking, like, you know, when you hear that song, that's a song you probably heard in your car. You either had. You might have had the cd, but you also probably heard it at a bar or at a club or at a frat party or wherever, house party, whatever you did. So, like, when. And when I hear songs from the past, usually I can. It sends me to a location. It sends me to a time or a happening or a thing. I remember a memory or a person or a group of people. And so I remember jamming to that a lot back in the day, that type of music or that specific kind of song or two from Timberland, but I can't really say it takes me to a location. And I was asking Amy, like, when you. She hears those songs, does. Where does she go?

[Amy]

It kind of reminds me of friends. It reminds me of the group of people I was around in that time.

[Dale Jr.]

High school, Was it college?

[Amy]

I think it was college, yeah.

[Host/Announcer]

2006, 2007.

[Dale Jr.]

You were. You were out of college? Kentucky.

[Amy]

I was in. I was probably in Jacksonville.

[Dale Jr.]

Promiscuous girl was 0403-0606.

[Amy]

Yeah, I was in Jacksonville.

[Host/Announcer]

I was a senior in high school.

[Dale Jr.]

Oh, my gosh.

[Amy]

I just remember dancing to it. I just remember dancing to those songs. Like, I don't know. For the most part, that's what I did with all of the party music was like, the goal was to have just enough to drink, get up, and just dance my tail off. And that's what we did.

[Dale Jr.]

But like, at a bar, at a

[Amy]

club, I mean, we'd dance at a restaurant. I didn't get.

[Dale Jr.]

Restaurant.

[Amy]

Yeah. I mean, wherever we were.

[Dale Jr.]

I've never been at a restaurant and seen people jump up and Start dancing.

[Amy]

Really?

[Dale Jr.]

Well, I mean, you're eating. You're not listening to Outback that you're at.

[Amy]

No, it wasn't at the Outback.

[Dale Jr.]

Where was it?

[Amy]

I don't know. I don't remember exactly where I was, where I heard that song. But like if I was in Jacksonville, all those beach places, like it's indoor, outdoor. It was far more like going to Key west, you know what I mean? So if I was out eating dinner or whatever, there's like a patio. It wasn't like a closed in restaurant where it's like there's other people just sitting down eating their Mac and cheese.

[Dale Jr.]

You know, I've been listening to that for the last couple of weeks. I get in these little ruts. Not, not, not in a negative way. But like I get in these little. I get. I stumble into this and I stick in it for a couple weeks.

[Amy]

You stumble it. Oh, like a certain genre in a trap or what?

[Dale Jr.]

Like I fall. I find it finds me. I find it and then I get locked onto it like a rut, like a wheel in a rut. And I kind of hang in there for a couple weeks till I feel something drags me the other, you know, direction. But I'm listening to. Yeah. It's like whatever. What genre would you call that? Hip hop.

[Host/Announcer]

Pop. Hip hop. Like it's that.

[Dale Jr.]

So I'm listening to that from 2002. Missy Elliott.

[Amy]

R and B. Missy Elliot was all. Yeah, R B, pop.

[Dale Jr.]

Golly. Missy's songs. Remember they had those videos where they dance so good.

[Amy]

So good.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. And you're. You would just be glued to the TV when that come off.

[Amy]

Yeah. Hard. It was hard to turn off. MTV was so good.

[Dale Jr.]

It was right in that spot.

[Amy]

Bird.

[Dale Jr.]

It was really, really solid.

[Amy]

Yeah. Umbrella.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah.

[Host/Announcer]

Work it, work.

[Dale Jr.]

It's awesome. But I'm listening to a little bit of that when I'm riding around. But like, I like how music can take you back.

[Amy]

Yeah. So the girls have. They begged me on Monday. Yeah. To download a new app on their iPads. It's called. What's the. It's called Magic Sing. So they have one called Magic Draw or Simply Draw. Simply Sing.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah.

[Amy]

So it like helps coach you to sing in your tune or in tune with your voice. So you sing into it, you talk into it, you yell into it. And then it kind of gets you in this range and then it gives you songs. Level one, level two. So you have to sing your way through and keep practicing. And Nicole yesterday has. Was singing in the Cranberry Zombie on repeat. And now she's got the song memorized and she's walking around just going zombie, zombie. It's amazing.

[Dale Jr.]

This is true. This is a real thing.

[Amy]

So all the music in there too isn't just like 5 year old Nicole

[Dale Jr.]

walking around the house singing Zombie by the Cranberries?

[Amy]

It's so good for, for an hour. Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

I'm just wandering around singing it and

[Amy]

so like that takes you back too.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah.

[Amy]

And then her singing it is just like, it's great. It's like the cherry on the cake. So good.

[Dale Jr.]

Isla loves to sing. She goes upstairs and plays songs on her iPad and sings on the top of her voice top, you know, as loud as she can.

[Amy]

Like no one else is in the house.

[Dale Jr.]

But she doesn't know the word. So she just. In a lot of spots she's just making a sound, right?

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

Not really saying a specific word, but she'll just make the sound that it make that she thinks it is, but super loud. And I'm thankful because like I listened to her playing this game and it's actually getting her to not only say the correct word, but like singing in the right pitch and at the right volume.

[Amy]

Yes.

[Dale Jr.]

And so it's like, okay, you know you're gonna sing your ass off in the, in the house all day. This at least we're getting her to,

[Amy]

to do it in her. In the right pitch, in the right volume. Yes. And also like it gives you all the words and she can read. So she's learning the words, whereas Nicole's just having to try to figure out memorizing too.

[Dale Jr.]

It would help Nicole learn how to read because she has to stare at the screen and watch the word because it's kind of like a. It highlights as it highlights like a karaoke. And so she's kind of seeing. Recognizing letters and words and go, oh

[Amy]

yeah, she'll start to memorize them. Yeah.

[Host/Announcer]

Have you ever thought about getting them like music lessons?

[Amy]

Yes, I have them signed up for that. In the fall when school starts back, Nicole wants to learn how to play the violin. So we're going to start in something. I don't know if it's piano. I don't know that you start out in violin. They did like a little music camp last fall, I think, and they dabbled with it.

[Dale Jr.]

But Nicole also said that she thinks she kinda. This is. She made sure that you only know she kinda wants to try to drive a race car.

[Amy]

Yeah, she does. So she got to. I know you all saw her in the car with Justin allgaier and dale after the win on Saturday. And she gets out of the car in victory lane, and I pick her up, and she goes, mom, I really liked being in the race car. She, like, whispered it right in my ear and hugged me super tight. And then later, she's like, mom, I mean, that was so fun. What was fun about it? Like, the noise and everything. She's like, I don't know. I just liked being in the race car. And Dale didn't even consider this. But they get in that race car, and it's hot.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah.

[Amy]

Like, really hot.

[Dale Jr.]

I considered that. My ass is on fire.

[Amy]

Your ass is on fire. He even had a fire suit to sit on.

[Dale Jr.]

My sole of my shoes melted, and it's all over the floorboard of the car.

[Amy]

Yes. That's what I was getting at. You could see the print of the sole of his shoes stuck to the bottom of the inside of that car. It was that hot.

[Dale Jr.]

Wow.

[Amy]

I know.

[Host/Announcer]

You just don't think it, like, you know it's hot, but you just don't think about it. It doesn't register that. Also, there's not a seat over there.

[Dale Jr.]

Pipes go right underneath that scoreboard on the right side. So the ox, it was probably, you know, it was cooking.

[Amy]

I just thought Dale was so excited about the whole experience in the moment that he wasn't really thinking that part through. Cause he was about to throw Nicole in. I was like, no.

[Dale Jr.]

I climbed in there. I climbed in the car, and I'm like, it's too hot for my ass. I can't sit on there. So I got to get on my knees or something. But there's no room for her to sit down. I want her to sit on my lap.

[Amy]

And she didn't have a ton of clothes on.

[Dale Jr.]

Like, hollywood, who's our truck driver on the seven, Took off his nomex fire suit and put it underneath my ass so I could sit down on the floor and not burnt. And then Nicole just wrote on my knees.

[Amy]

Yeah. And she got told the flag.

[Dale Jr.]

She did. She held the flag, and she didn't want to let go of that, so I helped her hold the flag because the wind could take it. And she wooed all the way to victor lane. She screamed and wooed.

[Amy]

She's like, who were you screaming?

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. I was like, hey, honey, we're going to holler now. We're going to wave, and. And we're going to see people, and we're going to wave at them. They're going to look at us. We're going to wave at them. We're going, woo. And she did that all the way to Victory Lane. Really, really good and all. That was great. She had a great time. Then we get in the truck and we're driving home, and this is a day later. We haven't even talked about it. And we're driving into the driveway Sunday after the race. And she goes, dad, you remember riding in that car with that guy? He goes, yeah, riding in that race car with Justin. I was like, yeah. She goes, I wasn't scared. I was like, no, I didn't think you were. You didn't act scared. She goes, no, I wasn't scared. I didn't plug my ears either.

[Amy]

Yeah, she hates loud noises.

[Dale Jr.]

I was like, no, you didn't do that either. She goes, I kind of want to try it. I'm like, what do you mean you kind of want to try what? She goes, I kind of want to try to drive a car. I was like, drive a race car? She goes, yeah, but kinda, just kinda.

[Amy]

I'm not going to fully commit.

[Dale Jr.]

I'm like, well, I got, you know, we got little cards. We got locals and stuff. We got a little track. I said, we'll just get out there and put around and you can kind of try it.

[Amy]

And she's like, okay, yeah, so we need to do that. Yeah. It's before the. Before it goes away. You really want to see?

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. I mean, you know, it's just Isla's

[Amy]

never gonna go for it. She's too cautious. She's just not gonna do it. And she's expressed that, like, she likes to dabble and play with her cart. She likes to take her little everything around the track she's got wheels with, you know, but she's not gonna be the one. But Nicole might. She might play with it a little.

[Dale Jr.]

She might play with it.

[Host/Announcer]

What was it like for you, Amy, to watch Nicole have fun and.

[Amy]

Oh, I loved it. I mean, I would have crawled in that car if Dale said, get in there with me. Or I would have crawled in there if Dale said, we can't get, like, I can't fit. You go, I don't know. I would've done it. I don't like to pass up an opportunity for, like, that's like being in the huddle. You know what I mean?

[Host/Announcer]

Yeah.

[Amy]

And so that was cool that he got to do that with Nicole. I really was excited for her. I was sad that Ilo was so overwhelmed that she wouldn't go. She does not like being put on the spot. And so in that moment where we're like, hurry, hurry, hurry. You have to make a choice. You have to run. She's like, nope, I'm done. I'm not going. And she kind of locked up. And then she didn't want to get on the stage for Victory Lane either. So she got bribed to get up there for a couple of pictures by Aunt Jamie. And then, you know, she got down. But she doesn't like all that attention.

[Dale Jr.]

Nope. We had a great trip. We. Everybody want. Everybody's dying to know, did we go into the Hershey chocolate bar line?

[Amy]

Well, three of us did and one of us did not.

[Host/Announcer]

Take a guess.

[Amy]

I didn't go and we didn't. We didn't force him. No problem. We walked in there, though, and there was no line.

[Host/Announcer]

Everybody heard it and got scared and didn't go.

[Dale Jr.]

They zipped right through.

[Amy]

Zipped right through. Had a great experience. Nicole is now old enough to like, do the whole thing on the screen herself. So, like, you go to each station as it's going. And she was. We all had a great time. Went through so fast, actually, that we made those big Hershey. The Reese's Cups also, they have Gigantic. We haven't even cut into them.

[Host/Announcer]

You didn't bring one back for the show?

[Amy]

I have three untouched and I will bring all one. I put. I put potato chips and Oreos in mine and the girls put all kinds of like sprinkles and all kinds of other stuff in there. But, like, the salty chips in there have to be so good.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, I. They have like a grocery store size candy selection. Yeah, Gigantic. You can just wander around in there for hours. And it's a lot of the same. Like you can. You'll see the same Reese's cup bag over here and it's over there and it's all. But it's, you know, and I wrote. I pushed a golf cart or a grocery cart around in there.

[Amy]

He did.

[Dale Jr.]

We come out for about 30 minutes while they made their candy bars.

[Amy]

Not just got candy. He's got pajama pants, he's got socks. He has a pair of Reese's pajama pants and Hershey, like the regular, that basic ass chocolate bar pants. He's all fully decorated in Hershey.

[Dale Jr.]

Now, listen, I ain't mean nothing. I didn't mean no harm to Hershey around the candy bar experience. It's just not for me.

[Host/Announcer]

Strictly the line that you were dissing.

[Amy]

We did have to wait a while last time this year wasn't like that. But he was like, I'm fine with my choice.

[Dale Jr.]

I got to tell you, I have one. One complaint. Oh, again, about the buckle in now. It's not a complaint. I got a question. Not a complaint. So

[Amy]

question slash, suggestion. Is this like, one for the box? What are we doing?

[Dale Jr.]

So the. The. The Hershey bar is the. It's the Budweiser of the. In the. In the Bev.

[Host/Announcer]

Yes.

[Dale Jr.]

Of. You know, like, Budweiser wants Red coat Budweiser. Anheuser Busch wants Red coat Budweiser to be their premier brand. Right? Yep.

[Host/Announcer]

[Dale Jr.]

It's P1. And that's Hershey. The Hershey bar to Hershey, the company. And they have this candy bar that they've had for a really long time called the Mr. Good Bar. And when you buy the bag of assorted, you know, crackle, Mr. Good Bar, Hershey dark, Hershey regular, everybody.

[Amy]

What about the Crackle? We don't have love for Crackle. Oh, you did.

[Dale Jr.]

Most people will fish out the Mr. Goodbars, and now not everybody. Some people do love the Crackle. I think TJ Majors, that's what I

[Amy]

would go for, was be the Crackle or the dark one.

[Dale Jr.]

Well, you do like dark. I just feel like that Mr. Goodbar has been suppressed.

[Host/Announcer]

It's got some bad PR.

[Dale Jr.]

Not bad PR, just not. They don't push it. They don't want it to get too big. They think. They know.

[Amy]

They don't push it because they don't have to. It sells itself.

[Dale Jr.]

It doesn't.

Well, it. It's good. It's better, I think better than a lot of the products that they make. But I feel like that they don't want it to get too much attention.

[Amy]

Because, Big Brother, such as weird conspiracy you have. Yeah, it's a candy bar.

[Dale Jr.]

So this the reason why I think this way. Gotta hear this. So back in the days when I raced with Buddha, we ran the red car every week, right now. Every now and then, we'd run a special paint scheme, but not too often. Dad was doing a lot of special paint schemes. He had the Wheaties car. He had the Bass pro car. He had the silver car. And I would go to Bud and say, hey, you know, besides the baseball car, we don't really do much. And I was thinking, well, maybe for the All Star race, we could do a blue Bud Light car. That'd be cool. And they were like, ain't no damn way we're doing that. I'm like, why not? It's like, it's your. It's your brand. And they're like, they already sell more than we do. We're not helping them. And I was really taken aback by how competitive it is inside the building between brands. So Bud and Bud Light. Healthy wise, you know, it's a healthy competition and one won't do much for the other because they don't want to. To help the other brand succeed beyond what they're able to do. So it's.

[Amy]

Well, so I feel like in the beer industry, though, there's facts and like, different things, they get trapped.

[Dale Jr.]

Five years ago. This is a long time ago. And I believe that it's similar with Hershey and Mr. Goodbar.

[Host/Announcer]

You're not wrong because I'm looking. It's treated as a variety brand instead of sold as standalone.

[Amy]

Yep. Yeah. I've never seen you pick up a Mr. Good bar at the grocery store.

[Dale Jr.]

Well, I try not to pick up candy in general, Please, sir.

[Host/Announcer]

Chocolate.

[Dale Jr.]

Chocolate, maybe Bars. Am I buying?

[Amy]

You're buying any. If you stop, you're not really buying a candy bar unless it's. I like, usually sugar stuff.

[Dale Jr.]

I like caramel.

[Amy]

Anyway, you're buying candy is my point. You do stop at the candy section.

[Dale Jr.]

Can we talk about the roller coasters

so Nicole didn't get to ride most of them last year because she was too tiny and this year she is. She has reached the height to ride all of the things that Isla rode last year. So we started out with the big ones, the Comet and the Super Duper Looper both that she did not get to ride last year.

[Dale Jr.]

[Amy]

I have a bunch of photos, yes.

Yeah.

The ones they take of you while you're riding.

[Amy]

Yeah.

On the way out we need to send them to the folks so use them in the clips.

I will. So we rode Comet first. Comet is an old wooden roller coaster and it beats the hell out of all those.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, it was amazing. It just yanks the place right after World War II.

[Amy]

It feels like it.

[Dale Jr.]

And I don't know that I bet it was really a thousand times smoother when it was new.

[Amy]

So here's the thing. I don't think that it could be it Shouldn't. It shouldn't be any damn different. Right?

[Dale Jr.]

It's bucking so rough is no way that it hasn't like made itself worse. Like it's bucking so hard that I just can't understand that it hasn't made itself more rough.

I agree. I think the shocks and springs or whatever in it are just.

Just the pylons and wood just shifting.

[Amy]

But doesn't that make it unfailing? Isn't it like regulated? It has to do. It has to sit in this little box right before. Before you can get on it.

It's safe, but it's just not safe.

Yeah, I thought they were always right. I just feel like wooden roller coasters, just more rough in general.

Yeah, they are. Wooden roll wood is much rougher. But I think it has gotten worse over time.

It's a. It's a hell of a ride, I'll tell you that.

Yeah, it is so bad.

We started and ended the day with that damn thing we did.

The second time it was like wrecked us both.

Broke our necks.

The first time we got in the super duper louver I'm on. And this, this was made in the 70s. And this loop is so tight that like it's over and done with in like a half a second. But also we were. We were told that it was made in a way where you could actually not wear restraints and not fall out. So like, it's that small.

[Dale Jr.]

As you're riding in this coaster, it's always shoving you down.

[Amy]

Yeah, the G force is pretty good. But when I'm going through this ride, we're on the front row. I'm sitting with Nicole and just because I'm scared that she's gonna slip back because she's so small, I've got my arm across her and I'm watching her most of the. Most of the trip. But we get to that loop and I'm watching her and we go around and then we get to the very base of it before it shoots you back up. And it does. It did something really strange to my neck. I almost felt like my head whipped around like this. But it was. It was rough. Then from the get go for the rest of the day, it was a little bit.

[Dale Jr.]

We rode all the roller coasters. Literally looking at our kids, watching them laugh.

[Amy]

Yeah, watching.

[Dale Jr.]

It's bad news to go into a turn or a loop.

[Amy]

Not a good idea. It's not a good choice. We're too old for this.

[Dale Jr.]

Popping and carrying on. I'm like, oh, damn.

[Host/Announcer]

So Nicole Got on every ride.

[Amy]

Nicole wrote everything. She had a blast. She was woohoo. And I mean, of course, like when the drops come and they take your picture, her face looks like she's filled with terror, but she loves it. You know, it's off.

[Dale Jr.]

Happy.

[Amy]

Yeah. She's having a dinner time.

[Dale Jr.]

We rode a Jolly Rancher roller coaster. And it's a big adult roller coaster. And Isla was big enough to go on it and she said, all right, I'll do it.

[Amy]

It was just Dale and Isla.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. And so me and Isla rode a full on adult roller coaster. And it goes super fast in a big loop and then goes backwards the other way. So, like, you ride forward and back backwards. And we rode it and I got off and I felt a little funny in my belly, I'll admit. But we're. We have wrote it and Isla's had fun. And it was. It took her breath and it shook. It scared her, and in a good way. And she was laughing and having fun, but she was like, dang, that was a real deal. We're walking down the plank off this thing and the kid walking in front of us just threw up all over, lost it. And I'm like, hey, dude, you all right? And he's like trying nod and he just let her rip again.

[Amy]

He's like, thanks.

[Dale Jr.]

We got to jump all over all this now, honey, don't fall in the puke.

[Amy]

Oh, my God. That would have been disastrous.

[Dale Jr.]

Was he alone? Huh?

[Host/Announcer]

Was he alone?

[Dale Jr.]

He had some family. We turned around and looked and waited and there were a couple folks with him when he. When he finally got to the bottom of the ramp. But he had just drank a bunch of Kool Aid. Like, it was all blue.

[Amy]

Oh, gross. Thanks for that, Ralph.

[Dale Jr.]

There was no food in it. It was just neon blue Kool Aid.

[Amy]

Gross.

[Dale Jr.]

It was gross.

[Amy]

Poor thing.

Poor guy.

Yeah. We were sitting down, we rode the bumper carts, eating candy. We did ride the bumper cars.

[Dale Jr.]

Somebody put on social media after we put that picture out. Like, I know we don't think about it, but you get on those rides, you're driving a bumper car hitting other people.

[Dale Jr.]

Oh, yeah.

[Amy]

Unbeknownst to other people, they turn around and Dale Earnhardt Jr's like bumping their rear end of their.

[Dale Jr.]

We were racing. I was racing. We were trying to win.

[Host/Announcer]

He was Carson Hosavar out there.

[Amy]

He was Carson Hosavar.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. We got stuck in the top groove, so we had. We had to go the longest route around this racetrack. But, you know, we. We passed more cars than Anybody.

Before we started, though, I don't know where my kids picked this up, but they started showing us the L. The L. Like we're losers. They're five and eight. I've never seen Isla do it, but apparently it's something they picked up somewhere.

[Dale Jr.]

We were looking at them, and I'm

like, they're calling each other losers.

[Dale Jr.]

Isla goes, mom, we're gonna beat you. And she puts the L up. She's like, loser, we're gonna beat you. We're gonna beat you. And I'm like, dang.

[Amy]

I know. From then on, Nicole would stop doing it. And then they were calling the nanny a loser. Oh, it was not the nanny. It was Jamie. And Jamie was a loser. It was so weird. I'm like, where did y' all get that?

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah, so. Oh, we are. We're at the theme park, and we had a guide. He was fantastic. Name was Dakota Lakota. Lakota. Sorry, I thought it was Dakota Lakota.

Yeah. Did you get the name right this time?

[Amy]

Guys, it's been a couple days, so he was awesome. I want to comply watches. So he was badass.

He was.

He was super nice guy, but he's like, hey, y', all to go to. We're told him we're like, we're going to Pocono for the rest of the weekend. He's like, you got to go to Jim Thorpe. I'm like, that's the name of the town. He's like, yes, Jim Thorpe. I'm like, that name sounds familiar. And he's like, yeah, he was an athlete. Done all this stuff in the Olympics. I'm like, so they name a town after him. He's pretty cool. He's like, no, they didn't. They. They did name the town after him, but he's not from there. And I'm like, what?

[Amy]

This is such a weird puzzle to try to put together.

[Dale Jr.]

We go.

[Amy]

It was not far from where we were staying. We go just down the street.

[Dale Jr.]

We go to Jim Thorpe. We're me. And he's telling me this, not Amy. And so we get done with the Hershey park and Amy, you know, we're just kind of looking at the rest of the week and like, hey, what we gonna do? And I was like, well, Lakota said we ought to go to Jim Thorpe. She's like, what? I'm like, yeah. And it's only 14 miles away. It's not too far. He said it was beautiful, like Switzerland of the. Of the Northeast.

[Amy]

I know when he said that, I'm like, okay, whatever. I started Googling.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. So she starts looking at it.

[Amy]

How many years have we been to Pocono? I've never heard about the Switzerland. Pennsylvania.

[Dale Jr.]

So we go and, oh, man, it wasn't far. We drive up there, and it. There's a couple of trains that'll do a little, you know, two mile trip in and out of town. And there's this one main road that goes up a hill, and there's these shops all on each side. And it's just like a general store and a ice cream shop and a T shirt and a candy and a jerky and all these little random stores. And we walk up the hill and shop down one side and up the other and looking around, and we got something to eat at the pub. There's a little pub at the bottom of the hill that I'd love to go back to and get drunk.

[Amy]

And he had eyes on the pub as soon as we got off.

[Dale Jr.]

Oh, yeah. Well, my.

[Amy]

Out of the car.

[Dale Jr.]

My production crew that I bragged about on here, they like to have a good time. And so I sent. I sent a picture of that pub because we was at Jerry's Pub in Michigan having a good time. And I was like, hey, here's a pub. When in Pocono we can have a good time. So I sent that to them, and they were like, oh, hell, yeah.

[Amy]

A lot of good pubs around Pocono.

[Dale Jr.]

We get on the train, and we rode the train out of town and back into town. That was so neat. And. But the story around how the town got its name is so strange.

[Amy]

That is strange. We googled this, and it was kind of hard to understand.

[Dale Jr.]

Jim Thorpe passed away. He was this incredible Olympic athlete. Done all these crazy things, won all these different categories, very athletic, kicked everybody's ass. When he passed away, his wife wanted to do something. Erect a monument or something to remember

[Amy]

him by, to continue his legacy and make sure that it didn't go away.

[Dale Jr.]

They are not from there, nowhere near from there.

[Amy]

They're from Oklahoma. Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

Jim Thorpe's from the middle of the country. She. This town and her somehow or another got together and they agreed to build a monument to Jim Thorpe and rename the town Jim Thorpe. And that's what happened?

[Amy]

Yeah, but they had they in return they wanted his corpse. They had. They had his burial site in that.

[Dale Jr.]

That I wasn't 100% sure but that's what Lakota said. Lakota said they bought the remains of Jim Thorpe. Yes, from her and brought them to, to the town to put at the monument.

[Amy]

So we drove past that wasn't 100%

[Dale Jr.]

sure if he's truly buried there.

[Amy]

Well there's a big casket looking granite box and a monument with his body.

[Dale Jr.]

How about that?

[Amy]

So it seems like it so makes it all.

[Dale Jr.]

We just want to put it out there. If any towns want to name their towns, Dale Jr. Amy might sell me.

[Amy]

No, I'm not. That's not the weirdest damn thing I've ever heard you say ever.

But it needs to be super remote and totally unrelated to anywhere. Somewhere in Alaska I've ever been. North Dakota ish. Kind of something like Arkansas. Any of those places that would have zero.

[Host/Announcer]

Instead of Key west it's Dale Earnhardt. Florida.

[Dale Jr.]

Oh man. No, that would make too much sense.

[Amy]

Dale or Dale. Dale Dakota. We're gonna be put in north or South Dakota. I don't know. Junior Dakota.

Yeah.

So there was this whole battle for his remains. Went to the Supreme Court looking at an article from 2015.

[Amy]

It doesn't seem like a light hearted thing. It does seem like a hard thing

to have but Pennsylvania won the battle.

[Amy]

So he is there.

[Dale Jr.]

Who are they fighting?

[Amy]

Yeah.

Oh the rest of the family members.

So his family didn't love what the widow had done and we're trying to fight it.

The whole thing's just so weird. It would make sense if it was his hometown or even somewhere where he lived forever, worked, had a family, made his impact in but it having nothing to do with him.

He's a Native American.

This was his third wife.

[Dale Jr.]

He was a Native American too.

What does that mean? I mean what's that? Why is that so funny?

Well it sounds like he's probably got family members that he's got a lot of family members. You do the math.

Well, Jim Thorpe was cute. It really was. I imagine like going in the fall would be better just because it was blazing hot. But there were so many cute little boutiques and things to go in and out of the buildings and the architecture was great. The inn right in the middle of town is so cute.

Well, if you let Dale go back to the pub. You'll be able to get this trip to happen sooner than later.

[Amy]

Well, I'm going to drop him off at the pub and go shop on my own. And I'll know where to find him. That's what I did in Key West. Like, you sit here, I'm going to walk around. I'll come back, he'll hang out.

He'll find George. And then there were a couple spots

up the street that it would have been cooler to go in and drink a beer.

[Amy]

Hang out little alleyways with, like, a door off to the side that, like, just hid. Everything's very hidden. You have to know where you're going. It made it really fun. And the Harry Potter. I think it was Harry Potter. There's a Harry Potter tour. There's something to do with. The Haunted Mansion at Disney was designed after one of the buildings in town or the Haunted Mansion ride. Yeah, it's cute. Lots to look at, lots to do. It's tiny, but worth the trip.

[Dale Jr.]

I agree.

[Amy]

The only other thing we did in Pocono that was notable was taking a hike. And I like to do this. I used to do this with Sherry, Pollux. Everywhere we went, we went on a hike. I know Travis is rubbing his face like this hiking thing.

[Dale Jr.]

Hey, it was fun.

[Amy]

He can't stand hiking.

[Dale Jr.]

Hey, hey, hey.

[Amy]

Next time, you need to come with us. And you and Nicole can sit somewhere by yourselves.

I ain't been hiking, and I don't remember. I had a good time. But I'm going to tell you right now, my ass was a little bit worried we was going to run into a black bear. And I didn't know what was going to happen if we did. I mean, we're in the Pocono Mountains.

Yeah.

Yeah. And we didn't have nothing on us. We didn't have no spray. Spray. We didn't have nothing. But we said, all right, we're gonna. I felt like, man, we're being really irresponsible. Cause we got a five and an eight year old with us, and we're gonna wander off into the woods. We've never been to any. I mean, we are really remote.

He worries. His initial reaction to everything is worry

a little one of our little girls is gonna get attacked by a bear.

We've I've been to Pocono how many years? I've never seen a bear.

Not a one and a half mile hike in to this waterfall and all the way back out. And Nicole was raising hell the whole time.

I mean, hiking is not her thing.

I'm tired. I mean, it was.

I'm with Nicole in this one.

I took Nicole to the Lotto Plantation just this last week, too. So she. She had to hike twice in one week. She was over it.

Yeah. So we were, like, half a mile in, and she's already whining and complaining and telling me her legs hurt. It was not her thing. I got a video of her. She says hiking is the worst.

Yeah, she complained the whole time. But there were, like, other people. There were other kids, like, jumping off the rocks into the water.

It was really cool waterfall, and we could hear people talking.

And we got there, and there was, like, these six teenage kids that were jumping into the water.

To be fair, we picked the most obscure trail. We had a book at our house, at the rental house, and it had their favorite ones. And this was the one on the bottom. We won't. It had coordinates to get to the parking, so it didn't have, like, a state park logo address.

We felt like the people that made this list were probably, like, beginners. Beginners. Hardcore. Hardcore. And put the hardcore ones at the bottom.

[Amy]

And just to see, like, if anybody actually falls for this, we're gonna put that one in there too. We did. We picked that one.

I had a good time.

It was great.

Only problem I had was I forgot I wanted to track it with my watch that I got from Bass Pro Shop.

He's like, how far do you have to go? I'm like, I don't know. I feel like you have to base it off of time because you can't really.

We were walking in there, and, I mean, we've walked about 30 steps.

He goes, if anything nefarious happens, you just run with the kids, and I'll go the other way or I'll. And I'll stand guard. I don't know what he said. I'm like, nefarious. What do you mean, nefarious? Or the whole thing is ridiculous.

I was like, no, no. Like, if just anything goes on, you take off running. I'm going to distract them.

[Amy]

Yeah, right.

First question People saw you guys obviously celebrate in Victory Lane, but they want to know what do you and the girls do during a race when Dale's obviously on the pit box watch and his drivers?

[Amy]

Well, the girls are always excited to go to MRO at the racetrack. It doesn't matter which racetrack we go to, that is the only thing they care about.

[Dale Jr.]

Explain what MRO is.

[Amy]

MRO Stands for Motor Racing Outreach. So it's a Christian based program that's basically like a traveling camp, if you will, for the race track kids. They also host chapel on Sunday morning, so all the drivers and their wives.

[Dale Jr.]

It's a little camper with a, With a extended awning and a tent and all kinds of toys, video games. And there's a couple gals there that'll watch the kids for you a little bit. If you want to run, you know, do something or go. Go into the pits or whatever. They'll. The kids are fine.

[Amy]

You check them in, they're safe. They have organized activities and they can sit and craft and paint and all the kids just like meet there from the. During the deal. That's cool. They love going there. I, I sit in there sometimes and just chit chat with everyone because I also get to like, kind of reconnect with people I haven't seen in a while or I'll go sit in there. I'm sorry.

[Dale Jr.]

A lot of the moms hang out around there watching the kids and stuff.

[Amy]

Otherwise I just find a suite or. I mean, I go to pit road every once in a while, but not that often. I feel like I'm in the way. I always have. I don't go into the garage unless I'm going through to get to something. Yeah.

[Dale Jr.]

So this past weekend at Pocono, so the. They won't. You know, I've. I've asked, I've asked if Isla is 8. I've asked if Isla can come sit on the pit box with me at the racetrack. And they're like, nope, no minors.

[Amy]

What age is not a minor?

[Host/Announcer]

I don't know.

[Dale Jr.]

So she's not old enough. And we're staying. I'm standing there and I. We're getting ready to win the race, but it's. It's the last restart or some. We've got 10 laps to go or whatever. And Amy shows up with the girls at the back of the pit box. And I was like, hey. I was like, I don't know if they're supposed to be in here.

[Amy]

True to form.

[Dale Jr.]

And he gets nervous immediately and he's like, they're fine. Nobody stopped me. I walked, I walked through all these gate guards.

[Amy]

So many officials. Everybody just gave me.

[Dale Jr.]

Everybody's like.

[Amy]

Or just kind of turned and looked the other way.

[Dale Jr.]

And I'm like, all right, well, get them on up here. I got them up there and got them to sit down so they could kind of hide up on top of the pit box. And that Was so much fun because I was like, all right. Pointing at the monitors. I'm like, number seven's in the lead now. We need number seven to win. Number seven. And they're watching the monitors and looking around at all the things going on, and cars are restarting and the field comes running by and they're, like, holding

[Amy]

their ears and they got some foamy plugs.

[Dale Jr.]

It was so cool.

[Amy]

They had a great time. They're going to not never get to experience that. If we don't just go on to

Snowman, we're going to win again. You're going to see it again.

They need appreciation for it. I feel like if they just go spend their entire trip in mro, they don't really understand where they are. You know what I mean?

Oh, yeah. I'm all about them coming to the races and going to Victor Lane every chance we get.

This year, though, they go to two.

And I had a friend get married up in Maine. Like, by the water.

And like, the day before, like, went to some, like, shack on the side of the street that was having, like, fresh seafood. Like, it was. Yeah. I go there in like the springtime or whatever. It's perfect.

Yeah, I want to do that.

We need to go to Luke's Lobsters.

They make lobster rolls. Luke's. Luke's is. So I met. I went up to work with. I went up to do some function with the. With Mickey. With the United. Yeah, the United Pittsburgh Medical center, the guy that helped me with my head injury.

Yeah.

And I met a relative of that family that owns Luke Lobsters. And he also had. Went to get some help with Mickey, and he had read my book, and he. We connected. He wrote me this really cool note, and we went and ate at their restaurant. It was awesome.

Oh, amazing. Well, the best.

Sounds like the best lobster roll I've ever had in my life. From Luke. Luke's Lobsters. And I think they've opened up some stores around New York and so forth.

And I swear when I was little and I'd go the races with dad in the mid-80s, that we went in that restaurant. Nate. Now Louie's, it was a different name or something because Louis. Louis prime hadn't been around that long. But I swear I've the same building in that same building with dad. And we would. He. We went to Pocono. We always went and ate there. So when I raced always take Amy there, and we now take the kids there.

[Amy]

Well, to be honest, when we were racing back in Pocono, back in the day before you were venturing out, I was scanning the perimeter for things to do, and Steve and I drug him to Louie's, and he's like, I've been in here before. And he was like, I'm pretty sure I've been in here with dad. And so it's a cool building. But, yeah, he did order lobster was the size of Texas. It was huge.

[Dale Jr.]

So good. I like lobster.

[Host/Announcer]

Is there any seafood that you don't like, Dale? I feel like you like.

[Amy]

He eats it all. I know he'll even eat a snail if you give him one.

[Host/Announcer]

I mean, if he eat oysters, it's.

[Dale Jr.]

I feel like because dad was eating it, he got some escargot or whatever. I remember this was like in the early 80s. We were in Daytona or somewhere down. Down there, and he had. He ordered some and asked me if I wanted to try one. So.

Nope. That have been a no, thank you for me.

[Dale Jr.]

I don't order those when I see them on the menu, but I have eaten them.

[Amy]

You have eaten them a few times in front of me.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, but I'm not a. I'm not. It's not. It's oily and kind of.

[Amy]

Yeah, don't.

Kind of not good.

Hey, I'll say this. Name the one appetizer that, if you see it, you have. You. You. You get it every single time. Mine is a shrimp cocktail. So if they have a shrimp cocktail on the menu, it is absolutely getting ordered, and it's not for the table.

We've talked about this before. He's not sharing a shrimp cocktail.

Yeah. The girls love that. That's their favorite. But Nicole won't eat the salt. She knocks the salt off, which I find to be blasphemous.

Usually, kids want all the salt, but

she doesn't do spreads or any of that stuff. So she wants a plain piece of bread. And Isla's on the opposite side. She takes Nicole's extra salt and sticks it in the cheese and is, like, salting up her cheese.

Although sometimes I'll take the end and pick up the end.

[Amy]

Smash it. Yeah. So good.

Speaking of the girls, somebody wanted to know, how did the recital go?

[Amy]

The recital went great. We had so many friends come and bring flowers. They had. Of course, their performance was great. I don't have video yet. I still have to get that from the dance studio. But they are so cute. And they're little ballet buns. They did great.

[Host/Announcer]

How many did they have?

[Amy]

Nicole just had one dance. She did ballet or ballet, as she says. And Isla had two. She had jazz and tap. And so Isla's tap dance is to stay in alive, which was great because it was like a little disco Y and she's out there, like, doing this. It was so good.

[Dale Jr.]

Oh, my God. Yeah, I missed it.

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Host/Announcer]

That's awesome. What was harder? Going from 0 to 1 kid or 1 to 2?

[Amy]

Oh, 1 to 2. 1 is 1 and 2 is 20. I remember Shandra Johnson telling me years ago, I thought. What? I thought having kids was going to be so great. We had our first one.

That's Jimmy Jam's wife.

[Amy]

That's Jimmy's wife. Jimmy Jam. Jimmy Jam has taken a resurgence.

[Host/Announcer]

Jimmy Jam was tweeting today.

[Amy]

Jimmy Jam. His. His interview was epic. Dale and I cracked up listening to that. But anyway, Chandra told me years ago, she's like, I thought I was. I could master this one child. We were like, no problem. Got this down. She traveled with us. Everything was easy. And then I had the second one, and I was like, holy smokes, what did I do? Two rocked her world, she said. Two rocked my world. I was like, that's interesting, because, you know, I feel like dogs kind of feels like the same thing. Not the same. Not at all the same. She's not wrong. One is one and two is 20. And it changes the dynamic in the house. If Isla's there by herself, it's so quiet, but with both of them there, it's like madness. They're singing, and then if one's singing, the other one has to sing louder. Even if it's not bad noise, it's just a lot of chaos, you know, it's not impossible, obviously, but it does change the dynamic of the whole experience, to be honest.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah.

[Host/Announcer]

Interesting. Next question. They want to know what's anything new added to, like, the. The beach supplies that you're going to be using this summer?

[Amy]

Well, Travis, we currently can't even get into our beach house because of the road construction.

[Host/Announcer]

Oh, it's still going on.

[Amy]

Still going on. Peeking through the ring cameras.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah. So on the road that we live on or the house is on, they're putting in some really, really big drainage. Very robust storm drainage and stuff. And it's good. I'm going to be great. But it looks like it may not be finished for the 4th of July weekend, which is insane.

[Amy]

It looks like they should have started in November is what it looks like. It looks like they got started a little late in the season.

[Dale Jr.]

The 4th of July weekend is going. Is already madness around there, especially that block. Oh, my gosh.

[Amy]

The access to the beach is right there.

[Dale Jr.]

Oh, my gosh.

[Amy]

They knocked into our new fence this last week.

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, it's okay.

[Amy]

Everything is fine. We don't need. It's fine. But damn, the timing is not good.

Especially, like, you want your own parking.

[Amy]

Well, right. And so the front of our house is public parking, so you might be able to park and you might not at your own home. It sucks. I'm like. I'm really annoyed about it. I'm far more annoyed about it than he Is.

He's got to work. But I want to go to the beach with my kids, and I can't get in and out of the driveway.

Because of where we're located, it's very busy.

that usually Dale's with me, and I feel like I'll get out of it.

Oh, my gosh.

So back to the beach, though. What's have you guys? What's like a must have that you have to take out to the beach with you guys?

[Dale Jr.]

I need shade.

[Amy]

Yeah. We always usually take one or two shades. The shibumi is always with us because it's easy to put up.

[Host/Announcer]

Is that still the number one, like, shade out there on the beach?

[Amy]

I think so. We have a few. It's the most popular one. It looks like you can rent them. There's so many out on the beach. It's. It's actually kind of pretty. It can be a little bit noisy if it's really windy. It doesn't take a lot of wind to get up, though, so that's good. But we have a few different options. If it's just a couple of us, we just take like one little screw in umbrella because he'll use that. And I don't really. I don't want to be in the shade. I want to. I bring really brown.

[Dale Jr.]

I bring the power drill with the little attachment.

[Amy]

Yeah. And drills it down in there.

[Dale Jr.]

Piece of cake.

[Amy]

We have. We have, like, a specific cart that's got these big bubble wheels on it. And so we put the cooler on there. We've got a speaker. We have a system. I get all the inside stuff. He gets all the cooler stuff together. And then, like, we. Sometimes we pack it up to the night before. We've got to be, like, so excited. Very efficient about it.

[Host/Announcer]

Are you always in charge of the music, Dale?

[Dale Jr.]

Yeah, but, I mean, there's a station down there called radio. We play everything. And so, you know, we put it on that. And I don't. I don't like to have to work or fool with it or dj, you know, and so we just turn that on. I actually buy. This is. This is so much fun. So I encourage people to do this. I find the Cheapest, battery powered, old school turn twisty knob radio off of Amazon. And I buy that and I throw that in the bag and we turn that on to Chuck fm. Get the antenna right. And we. It's like going back in time.

Yeah. He keeps those in the garage too, here and at the beach. So the music's always playing.

So at the, at the garage at the beach house and the garage at our house, one of those old crappy radios is turned on ever so lightly so you can barely kind of hear, you know, some Pet Shop Boys or a little bit of hollow. A little bit of hollow notes. Some REO Speedwagon.

[Amy]

Yeah. You know, sometimes a little slendy on Never now, man.

[Dale Jr.]

And it's barely playing over in the corner.

It's just good. You got to have it.

Because you know how like so the. I say kids, but like the 20 year olds and the. And the teenagers these days, they're going back to cassettes and CDs. They're going back to CDs. Oh, really? Yes. Like they. There's this sort of human shift toward physical, tangible copies.

Yeah.

Similar to like the collecting vinyl. But people are buying CDs again and, and they just. The. I think the convenience of downloaded music has taken some of the fun out of it because you just don't have that same appreciation for something like the

thrill of the chase.

Yeah. And so. Which I think's neat. And that's kind of the same thing about this old radio. Right. Instead of just, oh man, you know, I got everything in the world I need on this, on this damn iPhone and I'm going to Bluetooth it to this badass speaker and take it and

get sand in it and.

[Dale Jr.]

Which is awesome. I mean all that's. When I'm at home jamming in the bar at my house, I want the best going. Right. I want a big ass sound system with my phone and all my fun, all my. All the music I love. But if I'm gonna go out and Try to have an experience with my family and really kind of have an authentic sort of nostalgic experience on the beach. Bringing that radio out there that sounds like crappy dash.

Yeah, it sounds like a dash speaker in an old car your mom had. It's just really neat.

And you never know what, like, don't pull that. The radio station is gonna have. That you wouldn't have had.

Right. It's. That's why it's a good station. It really is.

That's why I love, like, Pandora and stuff is like. Because I'm. It might play something that I didn't think I wanted to hear.

That's the name of the card store, so. Oh, yes. This is hilarious. So we get to Pocono, and we're, you know, I'm looking to see where the closest card store is, and there's nothing around Pocono, right? But there's this one up north of us about 15 miles called Thrill of the Chase, and it's a very. It's brand new. These dudes just open it. They got hardly anything in there, but they're brand new, right? They've been open for a couple weeks. And I was like, they got Disney cards for the girls. And I'm like, maybe I can get there. We'll get some Disney cards. Amy will be cool with it. And I kept trying to drop some hints, and Amy wasn't. Wasn't. Wasn't feeling it.

[Amy]

To be fair, though, every single day, he's dropping a hint about if we're going by here, there's a card store or I'm gonna do this. Oh, there's a card store.

So on the way back from hiking, we get. I slow down.

That's why he had all that pep in his step. Yeah, he was thinking he was going

all the way back and I turned, turned on the turn signal. And he's like, where we, where are we turning into? What's here?

[Amy]

I mean, it's a non descript strip mall. There's nothing really else strip mall in there.

[Dale Jr.]

No car stores, no signs. This brand new strip mall, nothing on. I mean, it's just very basic. And I was like, well, there's a car store in here.

[Amy]

And she goes, you gotta be kidding me.

[Dale Jr.]

You gotta go kidding me. And I pull down there and look in the window and she goes, don't look like there's in there.

[Amy]

No, it didn't, it really didn't. I'm like, sure, they're selling cars. We're not going in there. And I'm like, you're not dragging me and the kids into that weird, weird space.

[Dale Jr.]

So we pulled out of the parking lot, went on down the road.

[Amy]

They didn't have anything in the windows either. Like if they had just opened two weeks ago, I believe that. But there's no signs, nothing. Like, how do you even find this place?

[Dale Jr.]

Thrilled to chase. Maybe next year I'll get in there. You guys just keep digging. There's a, there's a. Oh my God. There's a. There's a card shop in San Diego.

[Host/Announcer]

[Dale Jr.]

15 minutes from the hotel called Money Honeyhole. I've already talked to Kevin King about going there and meeting me.

I have a friend that lives out in San Diego and he's like, you're gonna be able to meet up?

I'm like, I doubt it.

[Host/Announcer]

Doubt it.

I know. I thought I would do it. And then I was like, oh, the truck race is happening. I gotta, I gotta watch truck race. I gotta learn the track. I gotta learn. I can't like miss Any opportunity to like get better for Sunday. So I don't know. There was a dinner plan third Friday night that I think got canceled possibly. So we might be able to get over before it closes.

I'm sure you'll figure out a window. Eatings for losers.

[Dale Jr.]

I'm sure they got a pizza shop somewhere nearby. The card shop.

[Amy]

Surely I'm sure you could arrange something.

San Diego's gonna be awesome.

Room service is, you know, at your, you know, right there for you.

I went to San Diego once. It's nice.

The San Diego Chargers were my second NFL team and they moved.

I just like blue and yellow because dad's rain.

So like back in the 80s, I was like, I like the Chargers. That powder blue, that little bolt back

when you picked just based off of their logo.

Lightning bolt charger. That's kind of a, you know, everything's an animal.

Wait, did that remind you of Hard Charger?

[Dale Jr.]

Huh?

No, it just was blue and yellow like dad's wrangler car and they had a bolt and I thought it was neat because it wasn't an animal.

Yeah, yeah, got it.

I don't know.
