Kelley Earnhardt Miller welcomes Howard Hitchcock and Richard Barry, the CEO and COO of Lionel Brands Group, to the Business of Motorsports for a conversation that pulls back the curtain on one of NASCAR's most beloved and misunderstood businesses. What most fans see as a toy or a souvenir is actually the product of a 12-to-18-month process involving complex CAD data from OEM tech centers, hand-applied waterslide decals, Chinese factory peak seasons, and approval chains that run through teams, NASCAR, Goodyear, and every single sponsor on the car. Howard and Richard break down why scarcity is not a bug but a feature, how the collapse of single-sponsor deals reshaped the entire product line, and why getting confetti placement right on a Chase Elliott victory car matters more than most people would ever imagine. They also get personal, talking about what drew Richard to invest in a brand with 126 years of history, why Howard collects presidential china, and how a three-year-old kid getting a diecast signed at a fan event captures everything this hobby is actually about. If you have ever wondered how a win on Sunday becomes a collectible in your hands months later, this is the conversation that explains it all. There’s a hurricane in the Arby’s studio. That’s right – Carson Hocevar AKA ‘The Hurricane’ dropped by today to fill in for Dale Jr as our host for DJD – and this episode was unforgettable. Right out of the gate, Dale Facetimed Carson, thinking that taping had just ended, but in fact, it was just getting started. Carson filled everyone in on his relationship with spotter Tyler Green, how the two navigated Naval Base Coronado, and the winning celebration that every fan would’ve been talking about had Carson pulled off the victory. In typical Hocevar fashion, Carson gave his takes on Reddick’s sportsmanship while racing Heim for the win, his own run-in with Corey Heim, Noah Gragson’s heated discussion with Kevin Magnussen, and so much more from the race weekend in San Diego. Cleetus McFarland also calls into the show to talk for a quick minute, right before Carson gets back to more of his opinions on all things NASCAR. Plus, a Kay Adams update. After what felt like the longest O'Reilly Series race of all-time, DJD was able to go live from San Diego for a great post-race show presented by Arby's and America's Navy. Dale, TJ and Freddie are joined by The Hurricane himself, Carson Hocevar, for the entirety of the show to talk about prepping on iRacing, Spire's standout performance, qualifying on the front row, and the unknowns of tire wear on the abrasive San Diego circuit. It was a late night but the gang brought the energy, so sit back and enjoy. THE PODCASTS YOU LOVE. THE MERCH YOU NEED. Ryan Blaney joins Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi live from Naval Base Coronado – where NASCAR somehow convinced the U.S. Navy to let them turn an active military base into a racetrack. The guys share their first impressions of San Diego, debate what it actually takes to win on a brand-new street course, and how far back SVG needs to start to give everyone else a shot. They also reveal what their call signs would be if they were stationed here – you’ll laugh out loud at Jordan’s. Ryan is sitting third in points with the playoff cutoff approaching, so where does he think a driver needs to be to realistically contend for a championship? Some say top six … but not Ryan Blaney. The mustache is real, it's magnificent, and Roger Penske had thoughts. Ryan tells the story. Plus: Jeff and Ryan blind-rank which NASCAR drivers they'd trust to babysit their kids, Ryan reflects on life with blowouts and upset llamas, and more from one of the most unique race weekends in NASCAR history. From bus doors getting destroyed to Michael Jordan's motivating words, and maybe even a future racer in the Earnhardt family - this week's Dirty Thirty is one for the history books. To start us off, Dale Jr. talks about broadcasting from an Aircraft carrier this weekend at San Diego, and the time he saw his bus have an issue live on TV at Pocono. Then, he and Amy talk about Nicole's ride in Justin Allgaier's car to victory lane — and how it may have sparked her interest in going racing someday. After that, the Door Bumper Clear crew discusses the Cup Series drivers' aggressiveness this year under the new points format. Over on Actions Detrimental, Denny Hamlin sets his goal for San Diego and Sonoma, and shares the words Michael Jordan said during a pre-season meeting with 23XI that sparked DH's tenacious approach to this year. Finally, Red Bull brethren and road course aces, Connor Zilisch & Shane van Gisbergen, discuss what they are expecting heading into the historic weekend in San Diego, racing on a Naval Base. Dale and Amy are back with a new episode of Bless Your ’Hardt, and this one starts with a story they’ve told a thousand times but somehow never gets old: the proposal. On the anniversary of Dale asking Amy to marry him, they look back on the trip to Germany, the tiny church tied to Earnhardt family history, and the moment Amy turned around to find Dale on one knee. Amy had no clue it was coming, Dale was just trying to “hit a home run,” and somehow she was more surprised he had a ring than anything else. Honestly, she thought there was at least a chance he’d propose with a car. From there, Dale and Amy talk about Pocono, Justin Allgaier’s win, the girls in Victory Lane, and the moment Dale’s daughter casually admitted she “kinda” wants to try driving a race car. Just kinda. No big deal. Definitely not something for Dale to overthink at all. Plus, there’s a Bay Breeze drink of the week, Dale’s latest music rabbit hole, Hershey Park stories, a Mr. Goodbar conspiracy, beach essentials, San Diego plans, and plenty of BYH married-couple fun. As Dale Earnhardt Jr. prepares for the Prime Video broadcast of NASCAR’s inaugural trip to San Diego, he sits down with road racing experts Shane Van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch. The guys visit the studio on the heels of the announcement that Red Bull will sponsor both of their cars at Naval Base Coronado. The deal also includes special edition cans of Red Bull featuring Shane and Connor. The guy’s chat about the impact Red Bull has had on motorsports and the importance of their return to NASCAR specifically. Speaking of San Diego, the guys chat about the seemingly daunting course that has been laid out over Naval Base Coronado. Both Shane and Connor have spent time on the simulator to prepare, and they’ve both paid visits to the site as the course has been under construction. With a length of nearly three-and-a-half miles, the track will be the longest that Cup has competed on since their visit to Road America in 2022. Dale Jr. ponders what NASCAR’s protocol on caution periods will be, as laps under yellow will take nearly six minutes to complete. The interview also discusses growing pains in the Cup Series, what each driver learned during their time in the O’Reilly Series, and what is on the horizon for Trackhouse Racing.
