We knew A.J. brown was going to be traded. We just didn't know the exact details of what what the Eagles would get in return for him. So now he's a New England Patriot. Miles Garrett getting traded. I don't know if anybody had that one. It certainly felt like there was something. But I've been saying for the last year, a guy who said he wanted out, then you paid him to stay, then he restructures his deal, the new coach comes in, hasn't met with Miles Garrett. And I kept. I even said it to Paulie. I'm like, there's something there. I don't know what, but something is there. And then all of a sudden, he gets traded. And I give. I give the Rams credit. I didn't like the Ty Simpson. You know, you might take him, and that's your future, you know, is the future next year. But you know what you're all in for Matthew Stafford. And I still would have been all in on a wide receiver, tight end, skilled position player. Because if you're all in to get Miles Garrett, be all in to get another weapon here. But then you start to look at the numbers here, and this is why the Rams needed to make this move. They've added to all pro defenders. So you got Miles Garrett, they got Trent McDuffie from Kansas City. In the games the Rams lost last season, they gave up 33, 26, 31, 38, 27, 31. In two of those games, they gave up 38 to the Seahawks, 31 to the Seahawks. Brought to you by Panini America. And if you're going to bring in Miles Garrett, he is 30, going on 31, coming off the sack record, you hope that you're going to get at least two or three, maybe, maybe four more productive years out of him. You do trade Jared Verse, who is a really good player, on a rookie deal, and I think both teams won. I think it feels more like the Rams won the bigger, bigger picture because they're favored to win the Super Bowl. The Browns, you know, once they move on from Deshaun Watson, then I think they'll be in pretty good shape. Draft picks, they've done pretty well. They've made some moves. You just got to solve that position. But that's a can you solve that position question that you're not going to answer this year unless DeSean Watson actually plays like somebody who's getting paid what he's getting paid last year of his deal. And this might be a situation of desean Watson. Can you play well? If you can't, we'll be drafting a quarterback probably pretty high next year. All right, what do you have for me there? Dylan, our one poll question, and keep in mind, Jared Verse in two years has 12 sacks. In weeks eight through 12 last season, Miles Garrett had 13 sacks. Of the day. Scatter the day. This is the start out of the day. And the Rams had been trying to get Miles Garrett for a couple of years. This wasn't just a overnight. Let's go for him. They've been trying for quite some time. I thought then when Miles Garrett wanted out, that he was going to end up with the Rams. They think that, you know, when, when you think about the Cleveland Browns, they had to overpay desean Watson. Deshaun Watson wasn't going to Cleveland. They're like, what do you want? All of it, guaranteed. Okay, all right, I'll go to Cleveland. Miles Garrett wanted out. What do you want? I want to be the highest paid defensive player in the game. All right, you got it. That's the only way. They got these big ticket items. Now. You're moving away from that now and you're going to eventually have to pay Jared Verse. But that can be a good thing if he produces the way you want him to. You hope. And he's only 25, so. I like what Cleveland did. I. I don't know why you didn't trade Miles Garrett the year before when he did one out, but I wondered if maybe you weren't going to get the return you thought. But he would have been 29 at the time. Now at 30 going on 31. And I think you did pretty well trading him away. You got a lot of attention with the sack record. Nobody is really, you know, tuning in to see a Cleveland Browns game unless they're just the curiosity of Shador Sanders and Miles Garrett. Well, I don't even know if Shador is going to be your starter this year, but for the Cleveland Browns, I think they did a pretty good job yesterday. I'm sure Joe Burrow probably went. Wait, he got traded? Where? Lamar Jackson. That'd be funny if Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson called up each other. Hey, did you hear the news? Yeah. No. How do you feel? A lot healthier. A lot healthier. All right, Dylan.
Dylan
Alrighty, Dan, we got a few options. Paulie sent this one over. Who had the best day yesterday? The Browns, The Rams? Miles Garrett or other, perhaps maybe the NFL at large for usurping all the attention. NHL and NBA playoffs.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Well, okay. The Patriots wanted A.J. brown and the Eagles, Howie Roseman, their GM probably thought. All right, well, let you. And, and I, I. This is why Howie Roseman is great. The Eagles traded a first and a third round pick for A.J. brown back in 2022. They got four 1,000 yard seasons. They made two Super Bowls. They won a Super Bowl. Now you trade a 29 year old A.J. brown to the Patriots for a first and a fifth round pick. That's pretty good stuff there by the Eagles GM Wait, you're going to give me four great seasons, two super bowl appearances, we win one super bowl and now I get a first and a fifth back. That's pretty good as well. So I wouldn't sleep on what the Eagles did and why AJ Brown just couldn't coexist with Jalen Hurts. But now he goes with Drake May he can be the featured guy. You don't have to worry about, you know, a running back who wants to get 15 to 1800 yards. Devonte Smith, Dallas Goddard, everybody wants to, you know, get their touches. Now you go to New England, you can be the number one guy. By the way, this first hour brought to you by McGuire's McGuire's Quick Solution Kits Remove the guesswork when cleaning your car. The kits come with products that you need to tackle the job and the drill attachment brush for faster cleaning. So grab your drill Meguiar's Quick Solution Kit for your next car sleep. That's McGuire celebrating 125 years of passion. What else do you have there?
Dylan
Dylan Post Miles Garrett trade. The Rams are winning it all. Winning the nfc, winning their division or missing the playoffs.
Dan Patrick
Well, they better win the Super Bowl. Yeah, this is a move you make to win the super bowl and I think anything other than winning the super bowl or getting to the super bowl would be a disappointment. And they're over under now is eleven and a half. I'm not sure if it was ten and a half before but they're one of the favorites. If not, you know the Ravens are up there, the Rams, Seattle's going to be back up there. But the Rams are expected to be playing for a Super Bowl. Yes. Dylan.
Dylan
Yeah, I mean of the these are the top five teams odds wise to win the Super Bowl. So it's Rams plus 600, Bills plus a thousand Ravens plus a thousand, Seahawks plus 1100 and Chiefs plus 1500. Would you take the Rams out of that five some
Dan Patrick
I probably. If I'm trying to get better odds I might take Kansas City. I mean it's a roll of the dice with Kelsey coming back. Mahomes availability. What are they going to do with the wide receiver position? I thought they did well with their defense. You're in a tough division. So does Buffalo get it right one of these years? Yes, Dylan.
Dylan
Yeah, I mean, that's the longest preseason odds the Chiefs have been probably in a while, but it's also. I'm always. I don't want to say a sucker for, but I like when, like, a team that's been. Had a great run, people view them as they've sort of died off a little bit, and then everyone forgets about them, and then all of a sudden, they're in the super bowl again. You're like, how did we not see that one coming?
Dan Patrick
And. And, you know, the Bengals might be a team that I would take a flyer on, but, you know, if everybody stays healthy, you know, maybe. But if you're looking for longer odds instead of just going with the favorites, I'd probably say that. All right, we'll settle on our poll question. 8773 DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle it DP show hurricanes a slight favorite over the Golden Knights. The Knicks are still getting four and a half against the spurs for the game tomorrow night, and the spurs are a slight favorite with that as well. We'll talk some basketball with Jim Jackson and Lewis Riddick, and the Mothership will dissect the trades that happened yesterday. As soon as I found out Miles Garrett was traded, I said to Fritzi, reach out to Aaron Donald. He goes, okay, Why? I said, because the Rams are probably saying, reach out to Aaron Donald. We just got Miles Garrett, and I thought, Aaron Donald post all these videos on social media. He's working out. What is he, 32, 33? Yeah, Paulie.
Paulie
I have him just turning 35 years old. Oh, 10 days ago.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. Basically, 35.
Paulie
A young 35, he was benching the other day with dumbbells that were 160 pounds each. He looked like an active football player.
Dan Patrick
He was asked about coming back. Now, this is Back in April, the Not Just Football podcast. This is April at the NFL draft.
Aaron Donald (Interview Clip)
When I even want, people ask me all the time, like, you sure you don't want to play? I'd be like, to be honest with you, I have no urge to play football no more. Sometimes the back of my head, I'd be like, y' all want to go out there? Can I think about this? I'm like, nah, man. I'm like, I was a guy that never wanted to play forever, but I always said I was gonna do eight years and be done. I just happened to win a Super bowl my eighth year. I'm like, man, this is destiny. And then. But it's kind of addictive to, like, you can't just win a Super bowl and walk away. It's like you want to experience that again. So, yeah, I wasn't fully done. I still had that. I wanted to experience that again.
Ryan Reynolds
I know Sean calls you every year.
Aaron Donald (Interview Clip)
It's like, I'm gonna say the first, the first two years, they would still be talking. They talk about it, but it kind of quiet down because you kind of
Marvin
know where I'm at.
Dan Patrick
Okay. I'd still reach out. That was April before you got Miles Garrett. Now all of a sudden, you're not the focal point. They're not going to be double teaming you. You might go, super bowl is in Los Angeles. You still live in la. Maybe you just say to him, how about you play in the home game? Yeah, you can do a Roger Clemens deal with Houston. Or was that the Yankees? Was it Houston? Marvin? Yeah, okay. Yeah. I'm just saying, hey, you want to. We won't even make you go to Australia to start the season. You can just come play, you know, practice, go home, play a game, go home. You don't have to worry about any road trips here. Yes, Todd, but what about the element
Todd
of, like, being away all this time is not getting regular hits? You know, you're in the gym and you're working out. That's like a hockey player. I'm still doing drills and skating all around the ice. But you're not getting checked against the boards or anything like that. You're not. It's a very different thing, working out than actually playing.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd. I'm guessing Aaron Donald would be able to quickly replicate or get that feeling back when you think about this, though. And I'd make a. Make him a rotation player, let him, you know, come in on third downs, second down, whatever you want to do. But when you think about certain players at certain positions, they're hitting, getting hit on every single play. You know, if you're the center tackle, guard, every single play, nose tackle, defensive tackle, every single play, you get hit. Wide receivers don't. Quarterbacks don't. Wide receivers don't. Defensive backs not necessarily on every single play. So maybe Aaron Donald's like, I'm just getting tired of getting hit, even though he was the one doing the hitting. But I would be reaching out to him and. Or I would. I would say, hey, why don't you stop by Myles Garrett's going to have his press conference there. Hey. Oh, wait, here's your jersey. There in it and your locker is still here. I'd be like, you know, just give it a thought here. Maybe, maybe just a little bit. Yeah.
Paulie
Paul, I think this is a real topic. Aaron Donald retired quite early. He was generally healthy. Guys like Reggie White played till their late 30s. Bruce Smith was four time All Pro after the age of 30. You give him, like you said, you just, you practice a little bit rotation player, pay him $2 million per sack
Dan Patrick
and say that's it, just play in the home games.
Paulie
Yeah, practice, schmactus.
Dan Patrick
You're going to be hosting the Super Bowl. Why not? Yes. Dylan.
Dylan
Yeah, I mean, I do think also too there's certain positions that just coming in cold after not playing, like probably offensive and defensive line because it's like you said, it's more just there's a physicality and being in shape element. But like skill positions, if you're like a receiver and you haven't caught balls in a couple years, like there might be a bit more of a learning curve coming back.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But these guys are working out year round. But if you got, I mean, Aaron Donald played the position as well, if not better than anybody else who's played that position. And there are a lot of great players who played at right on, you know, the nose, right on the center and he disrupted people. I always said he disrupts an offense more than any of these edge rushers. If you said I could have Miles Garrett peak, Aaron Donald, peak, I'm taking Aaron Donald. Aaron Donald goes up the middle. Now my quarterback is forced to be out of the pocket whether, if you're going to have an edge rusher. All right, I know he's over here on this side and I can steer the offense. I'm always geared here. I can double him up over here. Even doubling Aaron Donald, he would get up the middle. He would disrupt the offense far more than an edge rusher.
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie, he retired after the 2023 season. That's not that long ago. You know, it's not five years, it's two and a half.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Serena Williams coming back. Aaron Donald can come back. Yes. Dylan. Yeah.
Dylan
And he did say in that clip we played that he won the super bowl in his eighth season. And he was like, I thought I'd be done. But then you win one, you're like, maybe I can do that again. If he views this as his best chance to win a second one, it's not outside the realm of possibility.

There were a couple of reports yesterday, including some text messages. Pat McAfee reached out to Aaron Donald of maybe getting him back. I'd be all in on this if I'm the Rams. What do you want? There's no downside to this. I would say to Aaron Donald, you want to play home games, you want to play? We're not going to have you play 60 or 70 plays. We're going to have you play 35, maybe 40 plays. That would be it. We want you ready for the postseason. And I would just gear up as if you were, you know, on a minute's restriction with him, a play restriction with him, have him out there certain situations. And if you could have Aaron Donald, even Aaron Donald half the time, even just home games, I would say absolutely, sign me up because you got that guy with Miles Garrett. Now you're ready to go. And a defense that got roughed up I think five or six times last year gave up over 30 points, including two games against Seattle. All right, 8773-DP-SHoVE, email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow, we say good morning if you're watching on Peacock. Thank you for downloading the app. And we say good morning to our radio affiliates as well. Victor Wimbanyama hits the worldwide stage tonight. It's one thing when you have somebody during the regular season, you'll see some highlights. You might watch a game or two, but for the most part, I think most of your NBA fans consume highlights, not games. Unless it's your team, then you're going to be watching the totality of a season, a game. But this is different because now you're on the big stage. It's not just about highlights. This is about watching the entire game. And that's fun for me. I like when you get you're almost forcing people to watch a game instead of just a clip because somebody can watch a highlight and go, man, you know who's great? And you go, who? And then they'll tell you and you Go. Did you watch the whole game? No, I saw a highlight. Well, that's how we're consuming sports now. And sometimes we think something is, boy, that was a great game. I'll go, no, no, no. A great finish. That doesn't mean it's a great game. Like, even the Western Conference finals, it was a battle. Those weren't great games. I mean, the first game, overtime, and Wemby had an unbelievable performance. I didn't think they were great games. Where it came down to, you know, diagramming one last shot, it was okc. When they look great, they won. When San Antonio looked great, they won. You know, the Knicks, it was interesting when they face the Hawks when they're down 2:1. After that, it wasn't interesting. I mean, Cleveland, where you're down 22 and then you come back and that was pretty much the series, because I didn't think Cleveland was anywhere near what the Knicks were as far as talent goes. And they ended up getting swept. Of course. Now you got a battle here. I expect this to be a battle. I think. Now let's separate the Knick fan from reality here, if you can do that. And that is. I think the Knicks are a great team. I think they. They figured out cohesiveness, they figured out roles. I don't think they're deep, but I do think that they're really good. And San Antonio is really good as well. And I know we're going to talk about experience or lack thereof. Well, the Knicks haven't been here. Like, I know they've been in the NBA for a while. They're older players. In fact, San Antonio is the second youngest team in NBA Finals history. They average around 24 years of age. The Portland Trailblazers in 1977, 78, were the only team that were younger than them. I know the experience. You already went through OKC at OKC in a game seven. I think you're going to be okay. Oh, the Garden. Okay. Well, Castle was played there. He played college games there. Harper has got NBA pedigree. Wemby's played in the Olympics. I don't look at that and go, boy, these guys are going to be uptight. If anything, once it gets to the Garden, it feels like the pressure is on the Knicks because that. That crowd, they. They. You better be good. You better be great. We came out, we. We spent all this money to watch you play. You better be great. San Antonio, that's. That fan base is not turning on you. On. And maybe turning on you is kind of a harsh description. With the Garden. But the Garden does great basketball and they will want that when this series goes back to New York. But San Antonio, if you look at the history of teams that have come off multiple seven game series before they get into the finals, they normally don't do well. The Knicks are rested. I know maybe, you know, this is one of those rest and rust conversations we can have after game one. But San Antonio might be on just adrenaline alone, you know, have the edge going into game one because you might say, well, the Knicks are rested. Okay. I think San Antonio is on that high that they had against okc and it wasn't that long ago, it's not like seven days ago. Now you're ready to go. We know what it means to Wemby these younger players. It doesn't feel like the moment is too big. Now. I've seen that before with Chad Holmgren. The moment was too big for him and you could say, well, he is young. Well, he played in the NBA Finals. He's played in a couple of game sevens. It shouldn't have been too big for him. I expect to have a lot of conversation about just how great Jalen Brunson is Wemby the, I guess different things that he could do at both ends of the floor. But I hope that you get you shine the spotlight that Dylan Harper, Stefan Castle, de' Aaron Fox, Carl Anthony Towns changing his game. Bridges is the guy who got, you know, traded for five players, first round picks. OG Anobi I think might be the guy that decides this. His ability to be able to try to cover Wemby, if that's possible. So there's a lot of different storylines here and I'm excited about it. I mean I like the Indiana portion last year just because Indiana, it felt like they were on this historical run and maybe they had fate on their side. But OKC winning its first championship. So that you're looking for storylines every year that I covered the NBA Finals. What is the storyline now? You know, I was treated to Jordan, so the storyline was going to win another one, going to win another one, going to win another one. But we did have Seattle storyline, we had Charles Barkley storyline, Malone and Stockton storyline. So you, you have that, but you want to have the best basketball on display. And I think if you were going to script this, I think the NBA now it's not scripted. I would say that they did a pretty good job if they could script it. If you can't get the Lakers in there, having the Knicks against San Antonio, that would be High on my list. Yes. Marvin.
Marvin
Yeah. This is the best case scenario for the NBA because Wemby is officially the face of the NBA.
Dan Patrick
Right? Yeah.
Marvin
This is what they've wanted. Because you're trying to transition yourself out of the LeBron and Steph era.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
Or we need somebody who's must see tv. Joker, sga. Great players, but this guy, you gotta see him.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I don't know if there's anybody else on that list. Like, Anthony Edwards does not want to be the face of the NBA. He said it. I think he's a great player. I just think people don't watch him during the regular season. You see him in the postseason, and we all say the same thing. Man, he kind of reminds me of Jordan. And then it goes away. John Morant, I don't know if he wants to be professional. Zion, same thing. I mean, you got guys who got in, got paid. I don't know if they care. Wemby cares. Like, when's the last time you saw somebody. And yes, he did cry after winning the Western Conference Finals. Get over yourself. Nothing wrong with a grown man crying. I do it all the time. He won the Western Conference Finals. He said, man, he's. He says, the Larry o' Brien trophy means so much to me. How many of these kids who are in their 20s even know that it's the Larry O' Brien trophy that they hand out?
Marvin
Like, who's Larry?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Wait, is this Larry o' Brien Bird? What's this trophy for? I love that. I love what it means. I love how the Garden is going to just be thumping. It's going to be great having been in that place for a variety of events. No NBA Finals. But to be in there for playoff games. Hockey, college basketball, Big East. I know what it sounds like. This will be unlike any other event that's been in there in the last 30 or 40 years. Even going back to 1999. I mean, and Wemby wasn't alive in 1990.
Paulie
Not even close.
Dan Patrick
Tim Duncan was 22 at the time, but I don't think many people thought the Knicks had a great chance against that spurs team. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
Yeah. The city's going to be rocking the Knicks. This is the only time in my lifetime where the entire city will be behind one team. The only time that's even been remotely close is the 2001 Yankees. And that was because of 9 11.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, good point. Yeah. Paulie.
Paulie
The NBA Finals will be broadcast to 215 countries in 60 languages.
Dan Patrick
And you don't know what this game will mean on players who are going to be watching this when they're young. Because that's where I go back to the Dream Team. The Dream Team gave us Wemby. The Dream Team gave us Luca. They gave us Joker. They. They gave us these players from around the world. And the NBA is reaping the benefits of that. I mean, David Stern, God rest his soul, he knew what he was doing. He wanted. He wanted global expansion. And the only way you were going to do that is if you humbled the rest of the globe. And they did that with the Dream Team. And those countries realized, can we have a Michael Jordan or Charles Barkley or Larry Bird? And you see, yes, they can. Yeah. Paulie.
Paulie
There's this great article from the USA Today a few years ago about the dream team in 92. And Dirk Nowitzki says, that's when I got into basketball. I was good, I was decent. But that's when I said, this is what I want to do. Tony Parker of the spurs said the same exact thing.

okay, here we go. Paul has been asking for this. He said, could I have a moment? I said, like what's, wait, what's going on? No, no, a moment on the show. I said, okay, what's the moment? I need to start the ramp up for five years from now with Russell Wilson getting into the Pro Football hall of Fame. I said, okay, I'll let you be part of the let's elect Russell Wilson to the Pro Football hall of Fame. He announced his retirement yesterday. Now do I think he's retired? Retired? No. He's going to be in New York working for CBS in the studio. Let's say something happens with Dak Prescott, oh, Jackson, Dart, maybe, you know, with the Jets. But this is a job. Hold on to it because you know, I tell, you know, when guys get these jobs, I say they don't come around that often. You won't get another chance if you decide that you're gonna go back into coaching like Jon Gruden. This should have been his, his job, you know, for a long, long time. But if I'm Russell Wilson, I would, I would say you got a job. You can stay in this job. You're a young guy and you're going to be with CBS pregame show as long as CBS has the NFL. Yes. Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
All right, I have a question for the room. Let's assume Russell Wilson does not play again. It does not add to or detract from his hall of Fame candidacy. Would it be fair to say that the last two years he undone. He undid a lot of goodwill, a lot of traction he had to the hall of Fame, be fair to say.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
So in Pittsburgh he was 6 and 5 as a starter, 16 touchdowns, 5 picks didn't go great last year with the Giants 03 as a starter really went poorly.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But this, this started in Denver.
Paulie
Right. So in Denver. His first year in Denver, he was 4 and 11. Sixteen touchdowns, 11 picks, not good. His second year, he was 7 and 8 as a starter, 26 touchdowns and eight picks. But it was not a great season.
Dan Patrick
Well, you had a coach who didn't want him. I mean, he, he has great stats. His touchdown to interception ratio is probably top five all time. But we forget how great he was. That's how long ago it's been. And do I think he's. If I take away his name and I say, here are the stats, he's a Hall of Famer. Problem is I can't take away his name and it feels like he might not be liked. It might be all the Legion of Boom is the reason why you got to two Super Bowls. You threw an interception that cost your team. I'm just going by what I think. If, if I'm going to make an opposite case, why didn't you give it to Marshawn Lynch? Well, it wasn't his call, but. And Russ, to me was the best player on the field that night against the Patriots. I thought he was incredible. But do I think he's a Hall of Famer? I do. I think he's more of a Hall of Famer than Eli Manning. I think he's more of a Hall of Famer than Philip Rivers. I think he's more of a Hall of Famer than Matt Ryan.
Paulie
Do you think enough people agree with you?
Dan Patrick
I don't think so. You know, if Matt Ryan wins that super bowl against the Patriots, he's Hall of Famer. Right. If Russ beats the Patriots again, definitely a Hall of Famer. But it's tricky where you go, boy, that one game or that one pass is the difference between you being a Hall of Famer, not a Hall of Famer. You went from a sure thing to I don't know. Yeah.
Paulie
Paul, if David Tyree doesn't hold on to the ball and they lose and Eli Manning is one and one, finish
Dan Patrick
that statement, he probably not a Hall of Famer. I mean, you have people who don't think he's a Hall of Famer. I mean, he compiled, but he did have two of the biggest moments and he beat the Patriots. Is that enough to make you a Hall of Famer? Yes. Marvin?
Dylan
Yeah.
Marvin
Eli hasn't gotten to the hall of
Dan Patrick
Fame yet, but he will.
Marvin
You think so?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, he will. Yeah. He's not a first ballot hall of Famer or Hall.
Marvin
He might not be a Hall of Famer at all.
Dan Patrick
No. Be a Hall of Famer.
Marvin
So those Two wins. Because I would say Brady is the most important last name in his candidacy.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, but then the name Manning is second most important because your brother's already in the Pro Football hall of Fame.
Marvin
But that's. To me, that last name has nothing to do with him, whether or not he gets into the hall of Fame or not. His brother, I mean, his father's not in the hall of Fame. It's only Peyton.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but Eli won two Super Bowls. Arch played on a bad team.
Marvin
No, I'm saying. Yeah, the two Super Bowls. Not his last name. Forget his last name. If it's. If he's Eli Jones going to the hall of Fame just because of those two super bowl wins.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Dylan, if Russ goes to two
Dylan
Super Bowls but he loses both. So he doesn't have that one Super Bowl. Is it even a conversation with his stats and everything?
Dan Patrick
I think it's more of a conversation, a debate about that. Look at his. He had 350 touchdown passes and 100 something interceptions. I mean, that's Aaron Rodgers like that, that touchdown to interception ratio. I just don't think we looked at Russ as the reason why Seattle was winning.
Dylan
Well, and I wonder too if the Seahawks winning last year was Sam Darnold like basically a whole new team. Not saying it overshadows Russ, but he's not the last guy to have won in Seattle.
Paulie
Yes, Paul Russell had seasons of 34 touchdowns. 34, 35, 31, 40. Those aren't pedestrian numbers. Those aren't Troy Aikman, no offense, where he was part of a great team. Here's a couple stats. How many quarterbacks in NFL history have at least 300 touchdown passes and fewer than 125 interceptions?
Dan Patrick
1, 2.
Paulie
Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Oh, here's another.
Dan Patrick
Well, that was the one. Yeah, he was the other.
Paulie
Here's another one. Quarterbacks that have 40,000 plus career passing yards and eight plus playoff wins. It's a good list. It's probably 10 guys, but it's Brady, Brees, Manning, Favre, Rodgers, Big Ben Marino, Eli Elway, Flacco, by the way, Flacco, Russell Wilson and Joe Montana, they all feel like hall of Famers.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Todd, it pains me because of
Todd
the way things worked out or didn't work out in Denver. But for Russ specifically, just because of that one play. I know how much we get caught up with one super bowl win versus two super bowl wins. But that one play should be the difference in someone, you know, being immortalized in the hall of Fame. I personally have a problem with that. And I think he's done enough for the hall of Fame. Not the first ballot or anything like that, but I can't take that on him because they decided not to hand the ball off to Marshall to Skittles.
Dan Patrick
Marshawn.
Todd
Marshawn.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
I don't even think it's the past that got intercepted. I think it's the last four or five years of his career that undid it, because if he kept playing at a Pro bowl level and he still had the super bowl victory and a Super bowl loss, he's going to the hall of Fame. It's the play from his last four years that undid his hall of Fame candidacy.
Dan Patrick
Has anybody else played themselves out of surefire hall of Fame? Can you think in. In any sport in history where you go, boy, that guy limped to the finish line? I don't know if he's a Hall of Famer because he was in those first eight, nine years. You're like, oh, of course. Because he was going to the playoffs. He went to two Super Bowls. He was going to Pro Bowls. I think he had 10 Pro Bowls. Yes, Mark.
Marvin
For different reason. Reasons, obviously. Antonio Brown.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Paul.
Paulie
Like, we don't do this in baseball. Ken Griffey Jr's first 10 years were galactic. His next 10 were good. He didn't play himself out of anything. Albert Pujol's first 10 were as good as anything ever. His next 10 were good.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but Russ didn't have 10 years that were galactic. He had 10 that were consistently great. Junior had 10 years that were galactic, and then he had 10 good years. Got banged up a lot. Yes.
Marvin
Marv, If Russell Wilson has an MVP award, I don't even think this is a discussion, because he would have just been a Pro Bowler. And how much stock do you put into those Pro Bowls? Was he an alternate? Was he a starter? So that goes. That comes into playoffs.
Dan Patrick
Well, if Matt Ryan, who won an mvp, won that super bowl, he's going into the hall of Fame. But I don't. I don't think he's viewed as a Hall of Famer. Yes, Dylan.
Dylan
I also think with the Malcolm Butler playing the Super Bowl, I think Pete Carroll takes the brunt of the blame for that over Russell Will, like, at least in the court of public opinion. Like, yeah, he threw the pick, but it's really the play. Call that people, I think, yeah, but
Dan Patrick
that's not on Pete Carroll. It's Daryl Bevel.
Dylan
Daryl Bevel.
Dan Patrick
Like, he's the guy it's weird how Daryl Bevel. And then you'll look at Dan Quinn. Dan Quinn was the head coach of the Falcons. Kyle Shanahan's the one who's calling those plays, man. With the Falcons. And instead of just, you know, running the ball up the middle three times, kick a field goal, now they need two scores. Now you're going to win a Super Bowl. So sometimes we blame the wrong guy. Yeah.
Dylan
Dale, if we're going off of nicknames, in terms of hall of fame candidacy, Mr. Unlimited is pretty good. But he's also the asterisk and robot Russell.
Dan Patrick
Wait, wait, those are Russ's nicknames?
Dylan
According to Pro Football Reference. I was familiar with Mr. Unlimited and Dangerous.
Dan Patrick
I heard Dangerous, but not Mr. Unlimited.
Dylan
You never heard Mr.
Snap Judgment Host
Unlimited?
Dan Patrick
No. Oh, really?
Paulie
Like Mr. Worldwide?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, that.
Dylan
That was that. He was all Mr. Unlimited all the time back in Seattle. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Oh, his wife is.
Dylan
She's Mr.
Dan Patrick
Unlimited. She's Ms. Unlimited. She's first team Ms. Unlimited.
Dylan
Yeah, she's pretty Unlimited.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yes.
Paulie
Paulie, here's one last stat.
Dan Patrick
All right?
Paulie
Quarterbacks who have thrown 300 plus touchdown passes and run for more than 4,000 yards in their career, how many do you think there are?
Dan Patrick
1.
Paulie
1. Russell Wilson, 353 touchdown passes and 5,600 rushing.
Dan Patrick
That's pretty good.
Paulie
But his rushing yards were never spectacular. They were efficient. He'd run for like 500 yards but never 1100 yards. So it's like he never. He led the league in touchdowns once. He never had 50. He never ran for a thousand. It's like, you know, not the Joe Johnson of the league.
Dan Patrick
Well, we'll revisit this in five years from now. He's not going to be a first ballot hall of Famer. Yes. Martin.
Marvin
So you're coming back in five years
Dan Patrick
for the Russell, Just for this? Yes, just for this. I think it might be six years or seven years. Price. Seven years before now. It will help Russ. Guys who have gone into TV and they stay present. Guys have benefited from being in the broadcast booth. Dan Deardorf did. I thought Dan Fouts did. Like they're. They're still omnipresent and it's not like a guy goes away. Like, I've campaigned for Ricky Waters for years. I thought he was that first running back wide receiver and he played with the Niners. I thought he was a great player. You know, Roger Craig got in. I'm happy for that. But, you know, there's certain guys where they're not doing anything. They're not there on Monday Night Football or a Sunday afternoon. And I do think that that helps out. How about we. Yes. Marvin.
Marvin
Do you think the nickname Legion of Boom hurts his hall of Fame candidacy because you had such an iconic defense that was leading the charge?
Dan Patrick
I would say that's part of the equation. It's like the doomsday defense. Purple, purple people eaters the steel. Like those defenses were so recognizable. Fearsome foursome, that it does take away from the other side of the ball. Yeah, Dillon. Yeah.
Dylan
But he was great too. It's not like a Ravens Trent Dilfer situation where it's like the defense literally had to win them the game. Of course they did. But like he. They were no slouch on offense either.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but Marshawn lynch was more famous than Russell Wilson.
Dylan
Yeah, it's true.
Dan Patrick
So you had Legion of Boom, then he had Marshawn, and then you had all this third round draft pick out of Wisconsin. And he seems like he's pretty good. Yes. Morph.
Marvin
Another thing that hurts him is when they won the Super Bowl. He was not super bowl mvp. It was somebody on the defense.
Dan Patrick
True.
Dylan
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Dylan
Still, I better nickname Beast Mode. Mr. Unlimited or Legion of Boom. That's pretty good trifecta. You got in the same team.
Dan Patrick
I would say Beast Mode.
Dylan
Beast Mode.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Because he ran like that. Legion of Boom is pretty good.
Dylan
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Mr. Unlimited is not.
Dylan
No, no.
Dan Patrick
That. That. That sounds like a social media influencer. Well, kinda like there's a Mr. Beast. Yeah. Mr.
Dylan
Unlimited.
Dan Patrick
Mr. Unlimited.
