We'll start with that. With the Knicks beating the spurs, that was Saturday night. They win it four games to one. And I think history is probably going to show this as, oh, four games to one. It only went five. Well, keep this in mind that the spurs, if I looked at their chances of winning okay, in the four games they lost, they were 91% chance to win game one, 72% chance to win game two, 99 chance to win game four, 95% chance to win game five. They had double digit leads. It just felt like they ran out of gas. And give credit to the Knicks because you wanted to have a team that had something in the tank. And they did. And that something was Jalen Brunson. If you look at the time spent leading in the NBA Finals, the Spurs led 72% of the time, the Knicks 24%. Four percent of the series was tied. You know, four games to one feels like a blowout, but it wasn't. You know, the spurs were in these games. It was just. You're waiting for a moment in the moment never happened. But the moment did happen for the Knicks. And congratulations to them, certainly their fans. And Jalen Brunson is your mvp. And he spoke about playing with these guys to win the championship.

So we'll talk to his college coach, Jay Wright. He'll join us coming up. And I know this is a narrative that it still seems to be people are not going to get off this podium. You didn't think nobody, you didn't think Jalen Brunson could be. You're absolutely right. And you know what? Everybody else thought the same way. So for everybody who wants to point out that we didn't think he could be a number one, his own head coach in college, Jay Wright is on record as saying he did not think he could be this. He thought he might be two or three on a championship team. So move on from that. Enjoy your championship. I never understood this. When you win a championship and then you want to vent at everybody, it's 53 years. Be excited, embrace was a wonderful moment for you and for the city, for the San Antonio Spurs. I think Wemby got exposed in a variety of ways here. I think he came off as petty. I think he came off occasionally as a guy who will give a cheap shot. I didn't like, you know, sort of how he ended the series. Go find Jalen Brunson. I mean, Jalen Brunson was all class. Take this, take this moment here to, to kind of say, look, I, I'm going to congratulate you. He didn't. He walked away. Now, I know there's chaos when you win a championship. Jalen Brunson went over to the coaching staff of the spurs to congratulate them on a great series. Keep this in mind. When Wemby. Remember when he had the foul that should have been a flagrant. Okay. In the. In the moment. Should have been flagrant. Brunson didn't do anything. You know, he didn't. He didn't say, hey, I want you to rough him up. I. He didn't do anything like that. He was class all the way. And, I mean, he got caught up in the emotion. He's a guy who's probably been, I don't know, taken for granted, you know, probably doubted most of his career. But he showed that he can be as clutch as any player we've seen in recent history. Now we are really. I'm listening yesterday, and analysts were saying, you know, he's a. You know, he's going to move up that list of greatest players of all time. Slow down. He had a wonderful year. Shea Gilgis is back to back MVP and won a title. People already have Jalen Brunson as best player in the game. Jalen Brunson's a great player. Okay, but we don't have to get into compare and contra. Just enjoy it. How about we wait till after the parade? Okay, That's Thursday. Get the parade. Then if you want to get into. Is he the greatest Nick of all time? He's not the greatest Nick of all time. Willis Reed is. Or Walt Frazier the greatest Knicks of all time. They won two titles, 70 and 73. Okay, Brunson gets there. Now you can have a conversation, but be fair to his predecessors. And it's not like Jalen Brunson is saying, I'm the greatest player in franchise history. Patrick Ewing didn't win, by the way. I reached out to Patrick Ewing after they won and I said, congratulations. And he said, finally a world champion. And I loved it. That's all. Finally a world champion. And he's an ambassador for the team. But he was there courtside, and, you know, this is a team. It didn't matter. And I've said this before during the series, they're going to play better on the road than they will at home. And they did, like, that's a closeout game. That's Brunson saying to Victor Wembanyama, all right, you want to try to punk me? You. You want to point that you're in my. You know, I'm in your head or whatever it is, or I'm in your head, I'm gonna, I'm gonna go buy you and shoot a layup. Like, okay, I'm doing this on your home court. I thought it was a message sent without trying because that's not who Brunson is. That was, okay, all right. You might be the future. You might be the unicorn. I'm going to go to your place and I'm going to. I'm going to close this out on your floor. You need to learn something from that. And give credit to Jalen Brunson and the Knicks. I get was every night somebody else. But Brunson, you put up 45 in a closeout game. Now you're in elite company. And we also, we'd like to do this. Well, where do they rank in history? Where's this season when they weren't great during the regular season? They were good. And look, did I think the Celtics were better than them? Yes, I did. The Hawks, they're not good. Sixers? Not good. I thought Boston was going to be the team coming out of the east, but we tend to look at. Well, who did they beat? The last four NBA champions. These are the seeded teams. This is the. The teams they went through. So The Nuggets in 2023, they played an 8, a 4, a 7 and 8. The Celtics in 24, 8, 4, 6, 5. The Thunder, 8, 4, 6, 4. The Knicks, 6, 7, 4 and 2. This is the start out of the

I mean, The Knicks beat a 6, a 7, a 4 and a 2C. Okay, it's all right. But where do they rank? Oh, they better than the 2017 warriors who went 16 and 1. I would say no, but I don't want to. I, you know, that's not the argument that I wanted to have today instead of looking at something that was truly magical and enjoying that the oh, one Lakers went 15 and one. Are they better than them? No, they're not. The 83, 76ers who went 12 and one. Are they better than them? No. Now, in my opinion, I got Bulls in 1991, 15 and 2. No. Spurs in 99. 15 and 2. No. 89 Pistons, 15 and 2. The Knicks went 16 and 3. Are they one of the great teams of all time? Sure. I don't know how long the list is, but you get into this comparing And I told you so. And you miss out on the enjoyment of all of this. And we've seen this with a lot of, a lot of fans. For some reason, you know, when you get a surprise team, well, you didn't believe in them. Yeah, you're right. That's the beauty of sports. Like, I didn't think Hoosiers, they were gonna win the title, the championship in the movie. I, I bet against them. But you know, Indiana football, that's what makes this great. The Seattle Seahawks, I mean, that's why we watch the Knicks. The Knicks won the title. I don't care who they went through. And yes, did they win by almost 15 points per game. That's impressive. That's an all time record, 14.9 points. All of their victories. Enjoy it, celebrate it. Although, don't torch a bus or do stupid things like people were doing. Yes, Marvin.

And the thing about the teams that they swept, you got to think about the 76ers. If I just say the names, they beat a team with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George. The Cavaliers, James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley. They made them look like they couldn't compare to the Knicks.

Oh, I, I thought you were gonna. Well, the basketball. It's 53 years and, and I remember when they won in 1970 and 1973 and. And they were on tape delay. But, you know, I've always been such a big basketball fan. I, I would say that. I almost said that that would trump the other ones, but then, you know, what President Trump did at the White House with that crowd. I mean, that was a pretty crazy. I'm not a UFC fan, but I, I was watching the spectacle that it was the hockey. You know, give credit to, you know, the Hurricanes to beat the Golden Knights in Vegas. Somebody's got to go pick up John Tortorello's clothes there. They're still in Carolina, but I would say the NBA. I mean, the United States, I love what they, you know, it felt like, hey, we might have some offense here instead of let's keep it close and have Tim Howard, you know, play great defense as our goalie. This feels like, all right, maybe we got a little bit of firepower. I know it's Paraguay, but I'm looking for little victories here. If they get to the round of 16, great. Do I expect them to get further? I don't, but if they do, be fun. What else do you have?

Mix of both. The Southern mix of both.

More finals. A little more mentally than anything, but physically, I don't know what to talk. I don't know if I give you the answer on that one.

[Dan Patrick]

Let me go Back to game four. When you're down 29, what's Mike Brown say to you guys?

[Mikal Bridges]

Just one possession at a time. That's pretty much it. And just keep, you know, keep chopping at it. You know, you can't get it back on one possession, so just take it, you know, one position at a time. And that's what we did.

[Dan Patrick]

I was talking to Tim Legler about this last hour. I said, you know, the spurs are a young team, but they seemed really tired at the end of all of those games. Why? Why is that? Younger Guys should be in great shape, but it felt like you guys, you had a different gear.

[Mikal Bridges]

I mean, I guess you saw it. I didn't see. I didn't see that. I didn't. I couldn't tell if they was tired or not. They're really good team, young and maybe coming off next game, the seven, you know, game Sevens against okc. But firstly, I think they were tired, but, you know, they're really good young team, and they just go, keep fighting. Today.

[Dan Patrick]

If somebody had never seen Jalen Brunson play, how would you describe his style?

[Mikal Bridges]

Skill. Skill and footwork was pretty man and, like, elite shot making. So that's my three right there.

[Dan Patrick]

And he's not afraid either.

[Mikal Bridges]

No, no, never.

[Dan Patrick]

But when did you notice that? You go back to college and all of a sudden you knew, okay, there's something different.

[Mikal Bridges]

Yeah, when he came in as a freshman, like McDonald's All American and everything, and he started like, he started as a freshman on our. On the championship team. So, you know that we'll coach, right. With Jay Wright as a coach, and that's not easy to do. And just him going out there fighting every single day in the summer, the summer sessions, and then, you know, coming to the, you know, the. Our first, like, preseason. He was just. You just see the skill and the. The toughness he had right away. And that's how. That's how he started on a championship team as a freshman.

[Dan Patrick]

Jay Wright joined us yesterday, and coach said that you guys made fun of Jalen when he was the preseason MIT MVP and as a freshman, and you guys were making fun of him that he was trying too hard to be the MVP when, according to coach, you guys felt like anybody could have been the MVP of that preseason nit.

[Mikal Bridges]

I don't know. Oh, I wasn't really tripping. I was young at that time, too. I was just trying to make sure I didn't mess up on that court. I was really worried about that.

[Dan Patrick]

And he talked about you came in as a skinny kid and you'd go. You'd go one on one with Josh Hart all the time. And that, like, that first year or that red shirt seemed to really change life for you. What did you learn when you have to sit and watch everybody play?

[Mikal Bridges]

Yeah, it was tough. I think it was one of the toughest, you know, years of my life going on playing basketball every single year. And then, you know, you finally get to college, and now you're told you have to sit out a whole year when you're completely healthy. So that was it was. It was tough because you, you know, you want to play and be out there and an excitement from going Division 1 and you've got your family and friends, but, you know, it was really about pretty, like, halfway through is where it started to click for me. I felt myself getting stronger, found myself getting better, where I was just like, okay, this is the best day for me. But in the beginning, it was tough. I. I was. You know, I was upset and everything just because I couldn't play. I got to sit out a whole year. But obviously, the grand scheme of things was the best thing that ever happened. And I learned patience. I just learned just waste your time, and I just learned just workout habits, like how to. How to be a person, to stay in the gym, how to want to be in a gym, and all those things. So I was just very grateful for that.

[Dan Patrick]

We're talking to Mikhail Bridges, the Knicks forward, NBA champ. Is Spike Lee going to get a championship ring?

[Mikal Bridges]

He should for sure.

[Dan Patrick]

Okay. How many of these rings are you think that James Dolan is going to be handing out?

[Mikal Bridges]

A lot.

Yeah, it was great because you get kind of. You know, you talked to us before, but I know it seemed like him coming over here was getting outside his comfort zone a little bit, because I think he's pretty sure, you know, let the. That's why he has Leon. Hire Leon, you know, get our coaches and let them kind of talk to the team. Like, that's. You kind of let, like, the players and the coaches, the gm, you know, over there. And obviously he'll say his words when he sees us, but I think he got out of his comfort zone for the packs pretty much that whole year, because even in the preseason, he had a speech. He talked to us when he was at dinner as a whole team. It was really cool to see, you know, and I. And I appreciate him so much for that. And I gave him compliments both times. Just like, you know, I love his speech. And you could tell I'm a guy that don't love public speaking that much, and I think he's fine. But I could tell that it was a little bit Outside his comfort zone. And I just appreciate him for that because he didn't have to. You know what I'm saying? He didn't have to, but he did that because he truly believed and he truly wanted to win for the city. And, you know, that's. That's. That's really dope with him.

What did you save from game five?

Yeah, uniform did. What are you keeping from winning?

Yeah, when I was in Phoenix, fans used to call me that. That was funny. I always, like, the water is just hilarious. Like, I don't think I got nicknames that. Oh, I mean, I don't call myself no nickname or anything, but that was pretty cool.

My first book was Divergent, and when that came out, like, because it was so popular, I think it attracted like, mostly positivity, but the negativity I sucked in like a sponge. And I think it was like, critiques of things I liked when I was like, you know, I was 23 and I wrote this book and it had all my, like, dorky little cheesy or maybe unrealistic loves in it. And I started to feel a lot of shame about those things. And so for the rest of my career, I steered away from those little things that, like, make you feel pleasure when you read. But I also was like, saying no to these parts of myself that I then was like, screw it. Yeah, so that's this book.

10 years old. And here you are hosting the World Cup. If I would have said to you 10 years ago, Rebecca, you're going to be hosting the World cup, you would have said you're.

That is exactly what you just summed up right there. This is the. This is the dream of my life. I mean, never in my wildest dreams, even when I moved to America, did I ever think that this would happen. And it's living up to everything I could ever expect and more. It's. It's very much. How confident should the United States be with today's match?

Okay, so obviously what happened last week, I mean, did you watch that, Dan? Did you love it?

They say they've never wanted to win a game more than they do today. That could be a problem because they're a better team than Paraguay, So it's going to be harder. But Seattle, I've not been. I'm told it's the greatest place in terms of sport.

Noise is going to be unbelievable.

Oh, my gosh.

But I think it was built with, like, almost the Premier League in mind. I mean, it's meant for sound and. Yeah, yeah, be ready for that.

It's broken records, I thought. I know that. But my little boy Teddy is going with my husband. They're going to the game, so they're all up in their World cup fever, but I think it's going to be a little bit more difficult. But I don't know. Mauricio Pochettino has got us dreaming, and as a US Citizen, very proud. They are my second team, and so why not us? That's what Maurizio saying. Why not us? Why not?

If I said that Crystal palace, your team could win.

Yeah.

Or USA wins the World Cup.

I mean, feel so mean. I have to go with England. That's like, of course, England. England blood, England heart. But I have a huge affinity to the US Men's national team, and I really want them to do well for so many reasons.

Okay. Messi has a hat trick. Ronaldo doesn't score. How much of a competition of being called the goat. Like, you know, with these two. I don't know if there's.

Not from Messi. Not from Messi.

Okay. He already knows he's the goat.

Well, I don't think you say you're the goat if you are the goat.

Never calls himself the goat, but Cristiano Ronaldo does call himself the goat, and I don't know about that. You know what I mean? And also, he's now gone 10 games without scoring a goal. There's a problem. Portugal have a problem, don't get me wrong. Because everyone's going to hate. I love Cristiano Ronaldo as much as the next person. He's 41 years of age, Dan.

Yeah.

He's playing up front at a World cup with a brilliant midfield, maybe the best in the world behind him. And it looks now like he's being carried, and that's actually kind of sad. But the manager is. Is not going to take him out anytime soon, and that's a problem. Like, there is. It's so interesting listening to former professionals saying if he was a team player, he would actually step down. That ain't gonna happen in a month of Sundays.

[Dan Patrick]

Well, you know, Terry Henry said that he was being selfish and cost. Probably cost Portugal the match.

[Rebecca Lowe]

And, you know, he could cost them the world. He could cost them the World cup. Because if this continues and they go out in the group stage or in the round of 32, the. The Inquisition is going to be, well, if we hadn't had Ronaldo, we might have gotten further because we wouldn't have had to carry him. But let. Let's see, let's see. Let's see if he's in that starting lineup. I can't believe he wouldn't be in the next game because the manager said, why would I not play him? Even though there are quite a few reasons.

[Dan Patrick]

You've got to go to the Azteca in Mexico City. That is an amazing stadium, 8,000ft, I think above sea level. But the Azteca in Mexico City is a definite for you. Try and watch a game with Mexico playing. I think you should go to Anfield in the uk, in the Premier League, where Liverpool play. It's not the biggest stadium in the world, Dan, but it's. It's beautifully constructed. Right in the streets, in the. Right in the core of the city. I mean, people live a stone throw. You could literally throw a stone out of your garden and it could land on the pitch.

[Dan Patrick]

What are they, Scousers? Is that what.

[Rebecca Lowe]

Yeah, I think you fit right in there, Dan. Patrick. I really. Yeah, right in there.

And really, just go to Spain and go to either Barcelona or Real Madrid or you could go to Milan and go to the San Siro. I mean, obviously I would want to send you to England for all three, but I'm trying to be neutral and send you to a different. To a different place.

Your accent is sounding more American every single day.

I thought you were serious. We've had some. We've had some language situations already, you know, because I've got Zlatan, I've got Thierry, I've got Alexi. I mean, we're all speak different languages. Nobody knows what any of us are saying. It's fine.

Is Zlatan going third person on you a few times? Few times. I know he did that to me on. On a show. Yeah, he was on with me and he started going third person and he goes, zlatan is glad to be on the show. And I go, okay. So I'm. I was talking to two different people with Zlatan.

It's not a front. I mean, it's a front to an extent as, like, people can't see any other dimension to him. Maybe sometimes, but I can off camera. He's so lovely, Honestly, so lovely. He's so respectful. But that personality is real as well. Like, he is very much that personality. I love it.
