But that running back, it should be on a national show. The one thing about that game that should be mentioned is that that kid, Robert Henry Jr. Is like the Ashton Genty of this year. He is. He's leading the nation in rushing. He's home run hitting with 70 yard carries. He had 100 yards in the first half against Texas A&M and 200 overall. A 70 yard run right at the beginning of the third quarter. He's a pretty special player. A JC guy who got that once. The kid Pavia at Vanderbilt did the lawsuit to get his JC years back. This guy was like, hey, I can do that too. And came back and is playing one more year at UTSA and he is, he is pretty spectacular. But other than that, I have two weeks off now because Fox has fewer games with a lot of baseball stuff in the next two Saturdays, I guess. So I am off for two weeks. Just sit there. I am available to be hired.

[LaVar Arrington]

Oh wow.

[Petros Papadakis]

If anybody wants me to put on like a clown outfit and come to their kid's birthday or something.

[LaVar Arrington]

What do you think that this means for Norvale? You know, like that that's, that's probably Norvell. Yeah. They probably needed to win that game, right? They didn't need to lose that game that way. I mean the way you think there's, you know, does that put him on the hot seat?

[Petros Papadakis]

I don't know. I mean they still have the Mountain west season to play and there's a lot. But you know, their quarterback got benched. They benched their quarterback and then they just decided that the starter's not. Not the starter anymore. The backup is going to be the starter. And he made a pretty rough decision there on the two point conversion at the very end. But I think they believe in him. He's improved them year in and year out since they hired him. And Colorado State is. They have some good resources. They have a good stadium. They have a great student section. They have a lot of support. A little bit like Utah State in the Mountain west, moving over to the PAC 12, so. But it is an interesting question. We'll have to see how the rest of the year goes. It's still just September, guys.

I love. I think it's Alex Cat or something is her name. I forget. Anyway, I'm here to answer questions. The Dodgers, yes, are struggling. The bullpen is terrible. Other than that, they seem like a pretty good team. Their starting pitchers are great. They have a great offense. They have a great lineup. Ohtani pitched beautifully last night. Six scoreless innings. I think that's longest he's gone in a game. Then the bullpen came in and blew it again. So, yeah, they haven't clinched the NL West. They're gonna play on the wild card. So a week from yesterday, the Dodgers will be playing in the wild card and it'll be interesting to see if they flip a playoff switch or if none of these guys on the bullpen, I mean they have so many starters like Emmett Sheehan and people like that and even Ohtani, if they don't use their bullpen in the playoffs, they just use different starters to come in. Maybe they'll have a different outcome. But the bullpen, all these guys they signed in the off season for a lot of money have been abject failures. Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott. And Dodger fans are worried about it. How much do they get to be worried after winning the World Series last year and having their 20 million person parade and fully blowing their wad last November? I've been able to watch. I'm not saying anything bad about Joe anymore because he was nice to me at the Fox seminar.

[Jonas Knox]

I do, I do want to ask you about Mike Gundy, you know, in all seriousness, because the timing of all this seems rather odd. I mean, obviously they were bad last year. It's been not been a good start so far this year. You know, they weren't that bad two years ago. You know, they're a top 20 team. Why now in your mind? And then also, I guess, what's the outlook for that program?

[Petros Papadakis]

Which one?

[Jonas Knox]

Oklahoma State.

[Petros Papadakis]

Oh, my pokes. Yeah, it's. It's hard to imagine them without Mike Gundy as the coach. Right. Because like I think about Oklahoma State. And you think about. I used to think about two things. Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas. Right. I'd never been to Stillwater. I didn't know anything about it. And you just thought about those two running backs. And I don't know what it was 20 years ago. What would that have been? 2005, did he become the head coach? And it wasn't on my radar. And I guess it just kind of start. I went out there like three or four times and did games at T. Boone Pickens and talked to Gundy and kind of understood the. Well, they had Mason, Rudolph, different guys over the years. And it's hard to imagine somebody having more success at a more obscure place for that long of a time. And that really should be commended. He was a great character of the game. They, I don't think, had a real easy time adapting with the modern, the very quick modern changes that happened in college football in the last few years. But he should be commended. I mean, the guy ran a great program and a successful program for a long time. Would he been able to do that anywhere else? I'm not sure. I mean, he can coach somewhere else and it'll be interesting to see, but I mean, he was literally only out of Stillwater after being the quarterback there for like two or three years of his life with Ralph Friedgen in Maryland or something like that.

[LaVar Arrington]

So this is a guy who's, you know, was lifelong cowboy and did a lot of great things at his alma mater. Maybe didn't get along with everybody very well. Remember there used to be like a power struggle between him and T. Boone Pickens when he was alive. Do you remember that? So that was a whole thing. But overall, I think, you know, once the dust settles, that people should remember this was a great football coach, his alma mater. And I don't think anybody could ever have more success, more sustained success at that place. Now they have money, more, more money than a lot of people. And which is kind of ironic to hear him complain about other people having money because you're playing people that have less money. But either way, Mike Gundy was a great character of the game. He had a giant tortoise, or still does, that lives on his property somewhere in Stillwater. So just, you know, in the weird.

[Jonas Knox]

Haircut, would he make sense at a place like ucla? Like, you see him taking a job like that?

[Petros Papadakis]

I don't know. You know, it's so hard to imagine. Like, I used to be able to answer that question about Mike Leach. Right. Like, everybody be like Any job that came up over the years when Mike Leach was a thing, everybody was like, well, you got to hire Mike Leach. It was like Tennessee or ucla. And it's like, guys, he's going to show up in a polo smelling ripe to a black tie, dinner an hour late. You know, he's gonna. Now that works at Washington State. That's okay. That's the furthest outpost of the PAC 10 or 12 at the time. He works at Lubbock, which was the furthest outpost of the Big 12 at the time. And SEC Stark Vegas, which is the furthest outpost of the SEC at the time. But to work somewhere where you're expected to maybe be a little bit different than who you are deep down was going to be difficult for him. I don't. I don't know if that's the same with Michael, with Mike Gundy. Only because it's been so long, right, that he's not coached anywhere else for so long. He's used to being in his little kingdom where he played quarterback and where people. He could say, well, where are you going to go if you don't like it?

[Brady Quinn]

I can't picture him anywhere else.

[Petros Papadakis]

Yeah, it's hard to. It's hard to ucla. I don't. I'd rather they hire Ed Ogeron and watch him explode the city of Los Angeles, try to recruit and freak out and attack Lincoln Riley.

[LaVar Arrington]

He would be too much, don't you think? Energy wise, like, Persona wise for, like ucla. Like UCLA gives me like real, real yuppie type vibes, man.

[Petros Papadakis]

Like, no doubt it's a chardonnay crowd, but maybe they need to change that up. You know, they changed it up with Jim Mora and he had some success. Of course, he eventually became.

[LaVar Arrington]

On the show. Got a little yup to him, though.

[Petros Papadakis]

A little bit.

[LaVar Arrington]

He can fit that. That, you know, that's.

[Petros Papadakis]

Yeah, well, that's. You know, ultimately, that was the reason that Pat. I mean, Pat Hayden hired Clay Helton to be a USC head coach. He hired a Steve Sarkeesian whose life was nowhere near in shape to be a head coach. And everybody knew it, you know, But Pat hired those guys and he didn't hire. Yeah, the Chloride. He didn't hire Ed Ogeron because Ed Ogeron doesn't have a golf bag in his trunk. You know, I mean, that's true. I mean, that. That's ancient history, but it's true. So somebody already has a golf bag.

[LaVar Arrington]

In between on his seat right now.

Titleist. I mean, but. But, you know, somebody already.

A big stack of balloons you take to like a birthday party. That's Jonas.

All I'm saying is USC already ignored at Ojeron because he wasn't enough of a yuppie and they probably should have hired him. I don't know if he'll get the UCLA job. He does have some baggage, but I certainly think they should look into him because somebody that could blow up and recruit LA and change your. They need to change the landscape. I mean, they need to make a move and do something differently than what they've been doing. And I think they will play better. They might even win against Northwestern on Saturday. I think they'll respond better with Tim Skipper as the interim coach.

[LaVar Arrington]

You mentioned usc. They're looking pretty impressive, man. Like, where are you? Where do you stand on this? Like, has the experiment started to pay dividends with what's going on there?

[Petros Papadakis]

Well, what are we experimenting with the head coach, maybe? Well, they won two games against teams that they. That they really should have dominated and they did. They dominated Georgia Southern and they dominated Missouri State. They went on the road and played a Purdue team. That's it. Has a new coach and is getting better. But road games are hard. Road conference games are harder. The first road conference game of the year is really hard and they passed that test in West Lafayette, whatever you think about that Purdue team. But Michigan State is improved.

I thought that was a quality win.

[Petros Papadakis]

Yeah, Michigan State is an improved team now. Sure, they were playing 8 o' clock at night, you know, 11 o' clock at night, Eastern time, deep into the morning. They had a guy carted off the field for a scary injury and all that. But I think last year's USC team loses to that Michigan State team this year in the same circumstance. So Jaden Mava, you could say, and right now he looks like the most improved player from last year to this year on. On any team as a quarterback. They put together a good defensive staff with DeAnn, who people want to be hired for the UCLA head coaching job, and Rob Ryan, of course, we all know him, the linebacker coach. So they look a lot better now. What's it going to look like when Brady's there at Big Noon in Illinois after Illinois was physically desecrated by Deanna last week, which is not ideal for anybody going forward. But I don't know. I mean, once they get out on the road and face a little adversity and see if they can overcome that adversity, it'll be interesting. They're undisciplined they had 10 penalties on. On Saturday night against Michigan State. My prop bet over was nine and a half, so I hit that. But. But yeah, USC's improved. I think most people would have looked at their schedule and said, yeah, they'll be four and oh to start the season, but they look pretty good. And the two receivers, if Jacoby Lane is. Is getting. Going to come back and Makai Lemon have been spectacular. So you got to do what. What do they say? Give USC their flowers. They've had a great September, but it's not over yet. And we'll see what happens. You know, when it gets cold and when they get out on the road and start playing in conference games, there'll be a little bit more of a. Of a sample size to. To judge. But, yeah, they're better than I thought they would be. Although I probably would have guessed they'd be undefeated at this point, but that was. That's a much better. You have to say Aiden Chiles, too, is one of the most improved quarterbacks in the country from last year to this year.

You think they can continue it? Like, what. What chance do you give them in, like, this whole Big Ten hunt?

[Petros Papadakis]

Oh, I don't know. I mean, how many. How many slots does the Big Ten get in the playoff? 26. Okay.

[LaVar Arrington]

They'll make it, you know, six, maybe seven. Right? Q6, maybe seven. Six.

[Jonas Knox]

I think they'll get four teams in this year.

[LaVar Arrington]

Four?

[Petros Papadakis]

Yeah.

I don't know. I mean. I mean, if they. If the Big Ten gets four teams in this year and the way USC schedule plays out, they might have a chance, but they have to improve every week, and I've not seen that under a Lincoln Riley USC team yet.

If I had to guess right now, I just. I'd stick to my story and say no. But they certainly look a lot better than they used to.

The only hotel left left with one room available was the skate 8. And I said, I just can't do that just because of what it has represented to me in the past. That was where the conversation came from.

Well, I've had to do some things, you know, in a similar regard. I think I had to stay at a hotel like that in Pullman once or twice or outside in Moscow, in Idaho, outside of Pullman because we got an Apple cup late in the year and then the rooms are already been booked for three, four months.

And you get that game assignment late in the year and they can't put you anywhere else. So. Yeah, I've been through the wars.

I want to go through like what Jonas asked you though, like, do you have history with like Motel Sixes or Skate Eights? Because Lorena jumped in there and was like. She jumped in there pretty quickly and was like, hey, listen, that's. That's on my hotel list.

[Petros Papadakis]

It's a very normal place to stay.

There you go. And I said, wow, that, that's, you.

Know, we have all kinds of flop hotels. In fact, I grew up while my family owned, I guess you would call them like slum hotels. My grandfather did, my great grandfather did in San Pedro. The La Salle Hotel, the Cabrillo Hotel, the West Hotel. And these hotels were $8 a night.

Oh, yeah.

And they had one bathroom on every floor.

[LaVar Arrington]

What were they for?

[Petros Papadakis]

People that were down and out oh, and the.

Like hookers, you know, that's.

You know, I just remember running around, like, when I was 8 or 9, you know, picking up whatever. You know, go get the bag of money from the lobby of this hotel and run it back to the restaurant and stuff like that. So my flop hotel experience goes maybe a little bit deeper than Lorena with her slippers on headed to the vending machine at the Super 8.

Because generally, could be barefoot.

I do remember being lined up at the vending machine at the Palouse Inn, trying to get a bottled water to pour into my sleep mas. Oh, no filter over the years. But I will say this, now that I'm like, I'm almost. I'm 48 and I don't travel as much as I used to. But the. The. I used to wonder, like, why the broadcasters, like the older broadcasters were always bitching about the hotel or the car service or whatever. But now that I'm a little older and a little bit more finicky, I do understand that. A little bit more. I would not appreciate being put in a Motel 6 to call a football game. That being said, that sounds, you know, when you say it out of your mouth, you sound like a huge a hole.

[LaVar Arrington]

Yeah, but you don't. Especially if you know the history of it. I just. I'm just saying.

Well, I mean, if you are Arrington and Pittsburgh paying for it.

Was a spot, the battlefield, I think, in Cold harbor, which was just in the Overland campaign, which was after Gettysburg, which was just a horrible massacre. That was unnecessary. And the Bloody Angle in Gettysburg is the highest point that I forget the guy's name, but a guy put his hat on his bayonet and like a. Like a general type and ran a bunch of dudes up during Pickett's charge on the third day of Gettysburg. And that's the highest point or the lowest point anyway. That's the furthest the south ever got into the North. And they got over a wall and they commandeered a gun. They turned the gun around on the north, and then they realized there was no ammunition in the gun left, and they got absolutely pummeled and killed. But that's the Bloody Angle. So that's the highest point of the south advance.

That's interesting, because it's not very far from the South. It's, like, right there. Right?

[Petros Papadakis]

Well, that's what Gettysburg is. Yeah. That's why Gettysburg is so unique, because the south was so far to the north. And if they get by the army of Potomac in the north there, that means they march to Washington because there's no other army up there. So if they get by the army of the Potomac, they march to Washington and they sign their treaty and they get secession. So that was a pretty big deal. Well, anyway, that's what I would do.

But Russell Wilson was, I think, 32. Like, it's not like he was at the end. And those guys, I think everybody looked at and said, well, they got a couple of years left.

We also look at that a lot different, too. Like, we. We hear that now and we look at that the way you just said. But yeah, that actually used to be a lot closer to the end back then than it wasn't. I mean, Montana left. I mean, granted, he played for a long time in San Francisco, but there's other guys who, you know, the eyes are. First off, guys are getting the league earlier, not later. They used to be guys would stay an extra year. There are guys coming in at 21 years old now. 20 years old.

Montana left at 36.

He was 36, 37. But you can. But I mean, obviously Rogers was up there in age, right? He left around, what, 37, 38.

Yeah, Tom Brady was up there in age. I just. Russ feels like the one that you looked at and go, well, there's tread on the tires. That's why Denver gave him the deal they gave him. And.

If you want to talk about, like, there's been, I guess I would say this in the last decade, there has been two decisions that I was like, wow, that is. If I'm ownership, I. And like, after the fact, after having a game like that, being like, man, maybe we need one of those Guys who stands out there and helps us with like the clock and the decisions. And then probably Bill Belichick making Matt Patricia an offensive coordinator.

I would say that their fan base handles it a little better than the Bengals do. They're not. The problem is, I'm not sure that we know very many Dolphins fans. I know one, and you can't tell them anything about the organization. But I look at this organization and I go, all right, we understand the end is near, it seems like, for Mike McDaniel. We understand that they're.03, and the chances are slim they're going to make a run at this whole thing. But if you look at their three losses, Indianapolis put them in a clown suit. I don't think anybody saw that coming. But upon further review, Indianapolis is much better than people expected. They've punted once on the year, New England. They should have won that game. All right, Special teams gaffes that sort of slipped through their hands. And then they go at Buffalo on a short week. And they were competitive. And you can argue, if not for the interception by two, maybe that game turns out a little bit differently. The final score, not really indicative of what that game looked like on their schedule remaining. You've got the jets, who are awful, the Panthers, who aren't very good. You do have the Chargers mixed in there but you've got Cleveland, you've got Atlanta, who. Who the hell knows what's going on with Atlanta? They've got coaching changes and guys moving from the the booth. Down on the field, there's a winnable set of games for the Miami Dolphins down the stretch, New Orleans the again, the Bengals are probably still going to have a backup quarterback at that time. You're going to close with New England and I'll say this, the AFC East. I thought New England would be better than they are. They're not. Miami's got a decent shot at making something of this year. Is it going to happen? Probably not. But if I've got to sell you on one team, I look at a team who's probably of all the own three teams outside of Houston got the best quarterback of the bunch. It's to a tongue by Loa and the Miami Dolphins potentially making a run.

Let's go. I'm gonna take the Houston Texans sticks picks. They've been here before this, and this is a very simple explanation. They've been here before, they're well versed on it. Their offense has not played well yet this season. Three games in, and they have a very healthy amount of quarters that they have not scored points. The positive is, is that they really kind of look rock bottom on the way that they're playing offense right now. And I think that there should be a little bit more time, a little bit more buy in in terms of confidence for CJ Stroud to be able to start playing better. And if he does, I would say that that would bode very well for this, this team because their defense has played very well. Think about it. The Rams game they were in, it could have been able to win the game. You're talking about a 14 to 9 win. That is a very low scoring affair and your defense has put you in position to win that game.

The same exists with the Buccaneers game where the Buccaneers were able to muster a very, very average 20 points. And exactly the same type of story in the Jacksonville Jaguars game where they were able to muster a staggering 17 points in the game. Wow. So to me, when I look at this Houston Texans team, if I. If I'm looking at the positives of this, sure, you're 0 and 3, but you're one good game of getting C.J. stroud and this offense back on track. And if that defense, which has shown that they can be consistent in the limiting of what offenses are able to do output wise against them. They should be able to put together a nice string of victories that if they take it one game at a time, they can climb back to.500. And if this team feasibly, that can climb back to.500 within their schedule, especially the division that they reside in, they have a strong opportunity of finishing and being right there where they need to be. In a division where we've seen a team that actually, that is leading the division and they could take a nose dive, it's possible that they could, could fall off the cliff and what their, what their, you know, what their accomplishments and their wins look like as well. So it could be a seesaw shift for this division and it could be the Houston Texans that make a strong push to be that. Yeah. So there you go.

I donated, like, $500 that. I think I donated a hundred dollars to different charities every that year for the jets because. Yeah, because the jets fans, there's, like, people were outraged. And there were such big Zach Wilson fans. I'm like, dude, I'm sorry. I just don't get it. He needs developers development. He's not ready yet. And, like, everyone took issue with that. And I was like, all right, bet. Like, what's their over under. On. On Windsor? I was like, I'll give 100 bucks to a charity for every single win they get. And I think they got to, like, five. And then Jetson's like, oh, yeah. And I was like, yeah, I'm legitimately donating to various New York charitable organizations. And then it stopped, you know, a long time.

You know, what I don't understand is the people that think that it's an attack on the player as opposed to know the situation they're in. Because if you remember that off season two, their quarterback coach died. He was in a bike accident. Died right before the year. So they had that going into the season. And then Zach Wilson gets out there and, like, what did he have to work with? So if. If you're. If you're making an assessment on, hey, this guy's been put in a crap spot, it's not going to be ideal for his development. Somebody comes like, oh, why are you such a hater? It's like, what are you talking about? Like, this is the reality.

Because I am a hater. There was.

There was a lot, though, that went into it. Because I said during the draft process, Like, I didn't Zach Wilson, I didn't have him as like a top five quarterback in that class, Adam as like the sixth. And the reason being is every time I watched him that year, because that was during the COVID year they were playing its lesser opponents, he would sit back in the pocket and have all day to throw. And then when he did throw, he would throw into like a team meeting where they've got a 26 year old dude who's playing wide receiver who's just like would mop this lesser opponent. They're going up against over two dudes and I'm like, yeah, that's not translatable to the NFL. And people had issues with that. I'm like, he doesn't throw. The sense of anticipation, you know, he. A lot of the big plays you're watching, you're like, it's kind of like broke down plays that doesn't really work within the confines of an offense. And they were a team that was playing against group of five, you know, teams. So I was like, yeah, this isn't like, this isn't good. And I went back and watched the years before. I'm like, I'm like, I see upside down, but I just don't see a guy who's ready to walk in right now and start. And when you take a guy number two overall, that's what you're signaling to your fan base and that's what they kind of tried to do. So again, it wasn't anything against him. It's not that he doesn't have the ability to do it, it was just he was going to need more time to develop in my mind. And again, jets fans and fans in general just took that and ran with it and the rest is history. But we did help out some good organizations.
