You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio.
Dan Patrick
He's Bruce Pearl Turner and CBS Sports College basketball analyst, three time national Coach of the Year. And in case you didn't know, former Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl what's bothering you today? Coach the life is good dance.
Bruce Pearl
Great to see you. My heart breaks for my son. But you know what? You got a chance to win your way in or lose your Way out. And Auburn probably was just one more win away from dancing.
Dan Patrick
How would you rate your week or the last 10 days or two weeks, let's say, as an analyst?
Bruce Pearl
That's a great question, Dan. I was a basketball coach, head coach for 30 years and been in basketball for 48 years. And so this analyst thing and being in the media is brand new. So I am a rookie at that, even though I'm 66 years old now. And sometimes you don't know how you're doing. I mean, when I used to play or used to coach, there was a scoreboard. I get. I get off and I'm like, I don't know. I don't know how I did. I imagine some people think I'm entertaining. I would imagine some think of. People think I'm an idiot and. But you never know whether you're winning or losing.
Dan Patrick
But does somebody tell you, I mean, you got headlines. I don't know if you feel like that's part of your job.
Bruce Pearl
No, I don't think it's part of my job. I think my job is to tell you what I think based on my years of experience. And I've never, as you know, Dan, I've never been politically correct, so I really don't worry about that stuff. And what I did learn, though, is sometimes when you do give your opinion about something, you know, you can be. It can be taken out of context or you can take it a task. And I really don't mind either one of them. Right now, I'm the ugly stepmother because I asked the question, are we looking for the 37 best teams or the 37 most deserving teams when it came to the at large? And so that. Because that way I became enemy number one again.
Dan Patrick
Okay, how much of the story of Miami, Ohio helped them get into the tournament?
Bruce Pearl
I'd say about 95%, and that's fine. There is a human element that exists in that room, and it should exist. You don't just go by the metrics. You just don't go by the. The numbers of math. You gotta have a little bit of a feel. And so as I said this from the very beginning, I would put them in the field. I would put them in the field. If you want to tell me, do they qualify based on these metrics? The answer is absolutely not. And it's interesting, Dan, last night I asked, when I on cbs, I asked Chairman Gill, I said, okay, last two in, first two out. What were the metrics? That was sort of the defining factor for you, you know, that, that's a fair question, right?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Bruce Pearl
And he said, he said quality wins. Quality wins was. He said, I said and I did not follow up out of respect. And you know, these are things we could talk about the next day. Miami Ohio doesn't have a quality win. Oklahoma and Auburn, who were the last teams left out, have a half a dozen quality wins each. And so I think it sort of just added to the drama a little bit. But look, I'm happy they're in. They deserve to be in the field. It's what the Cinderellas are all about. And so I think we need to sort of adjust the metric so we get more of these mid major teams in a tournament. But the way it's set up right now, you've got to make an exception.
Dan Patrick
I thought Stanford had a better argument than Oklahoma and Auburn.
Bruce Pearl
Coach, tell me why.
Dan Patrick
Well, would they have five quad one victories? They had 20 plus wins. I mean just start there. It feels like a pretty good resume.
Bruce Pearl
I agree. No, it's a good resume. And one of the things I've said all along is I don't think anybody got screwed here. Nobody got screwed. I don't think it was anybody. Oh my God. Okay, how did this team get in or not get in? You can make an argument for Stanford. You can make an argument for. If they said to me if VCU didn't win their tournament, they were going to be out. And I would have made an argument for VCU. The argument for Auburn was they played 17 quad one games. 17. Miami Ohio played one quad two. I mean it's very difficult when you talk about apples and oranges. Auburn beat St. John's who was the biggest champion they be Florida at Florida was the SEC regular season champion. They beat Arkansas by 20 who was the SEC tournament champion. So when it came to quality wins, I thought that that was, that was something that could have pushed them over the top. They had the number four strength of schedule. I'm not sure where Stanford's was and a lot of that has to do with intense.
Dan Patrick
Can you look at Auburn objectively?
Bruce Pearl
Yes, 100% can. Like I think it's okay that Auburn and Oklahoma for example, aren't in the field. I think it's okay. They should have won one more game and so there's nobody complaining about it. But I pride myself on telling what I really think. Was I rooting for my son? Of course I was rooting for my son. People say, well, you got your son the job. No, I didn't get my son the job. My Son played for me. My son was an assistant for me for 11 years. He was the Associated head coach. He was the defensive coordinator. Did I help him? Absolutely, I did. As a dad, of course I did.
Dan Patrick
But you look at. Are you paid by Auburn?
Bruce Pearl
You know what? I'm in an ambassador's position. And not many Jewish guys would walk away from $30 million, but this one did. And who does that? My wife is like, honey, why couldn't you just stink for a couple of years, let them fire you and pay you $10 million to do what you're doing now? But no, you go ahead and quit. Leave all that on the table. Yeah, no, Dan, I. Objectivity for me, not an issue.
Dan Patrick
Okay. But I don't know if you have to disclose that, that, hey, I'm still paid as an ambassador for Auburn. If it felt like you were kind of dinging Miami Ohio because Auburn was going to be on the bubble. So that's the appearance, okay?
Dylan
That's.
Dan Patrick
That's how a lot of people look. So the appearance of that, the optics didn't look good.
Bruce Pearl
Well, that's. That's fair. And it certainly has a former Auburn basketball coach. What former coach or former athlete? You know, Charles Barkley roots for Auburn? He does, but Charles Barkley is always going to keep it real. And.
Dan Patrick
But he was paid at Auburn, not after Auburn.
Bruce Pearl
That's fair enough. Hey, hey, listen. What if I wasn't able to be objective? I wouldn't continue to be in Auburn. It's sort of the best of both worlds. I would give that up in a heartbeat if optics became such an issue that I couldn't be an analyst. You know, Jay Wright works. Worked at Villanova for all those years. He still worked there. And nobody questioned whether or not Jay Wright would have been objective.
Dan Patrick
Are you retired as a coach?
Bruce Pearl
Yeah, I am. I thought about. I thought about it. I got a few phone calls even this year. But then I was head coach for 30 years, and it was enough. We had a great run. And I do want to do some other things, as you know. You know, I'm a huge advocate for. For this country. I want to coach America. I'm being a Jewish American. I work really hard to bring Jews and Christians and Muslims together. Abraham is the father of all nations. As a coach, I love to bring people together. Religion divides us and separates us. And of course, I love my country, and I also love my ancestral home in Israel. So those are the areas that I'm working in right now. And I think that in many ways I had the Success I had in order to give me this platform. I want Jewish Americans to be this country's greatest patriots because this country saved us from the Holocaust and gave us this opportunity and we are hopefully making the most of it. That comes with a responsibility.
Dan Patrick
Talking to Bruce Pearl, CBS Sports college basketball analyst, former Auburn head coach, best pro prospect in the tournament is who?
Bruce Pearl
AJ DeBencer. I think both on and off the court, Dan, if you're going to invest in somebody that is going to be your number one pick and you want to build your franchise around that, I think the stuff both on and off the court, work ethic, all those things. This year is a great draft. It'll be the best freshman in the history of the NBA draft this year. It is talented. Top. It's very, very deep. I don't think you can go wrong. I love several other players in there. I love. Boozer Peterson is an incredible talent. Caleb Wilson is amazing. The point guards. Yeah, Acuff is, is a great, great story. Kingston Fleming, it is absolutely, absolutely loaded. And that's why all these NBA teams are tanking, because they want to, they want to improve their position in the draft.
Dan Patrick
When you see Patino still doing it, what do you think?
Bruce Pearl
Amazing. Amazing.
Dan Patrick
How does he have the energy, though, Bruce? It feels like that's what leaves you first.
Bruce Pearl
Yeah, I don't know. I mean, everybody ages differently. I think it's. I think my guess is it's, it's, it's his, it's. It's his. His family and basketball are his two major passion interests. A little bit of horse racing. Dan. He was the best I ever went up against. He. He knew what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it. He knew how to take it away. He's not getting older, he's getting better. Tom Izzo's the same way. I mean, Tom Izzo is getting better. If it's. It's hard to believe. He has got, he has got good teams that he makes. He makes it a great team. And so I got Patino in St. John's making a little bit of run this year in my bracket. I think they're. I think Zubi Ejafor is terrific. They guard really, really well and they're starting to shoot the basketball better.
Dan Patrick
How many teams can win it?
Bruce Pearl
I think there's certainly everybody that's on the one line can win it. I think St. John's as a five. How does St. John's how are they a five? I mean, that's just like they're a three. Seed. And my. How, how can UConn be a two and St. John's be a five? I know it's the body that work and St. John's wasn't playing great early in the season. I'd say there are seven or eight teams, I think that'll win it. I think it's gonna be a lot of chalk.
Dan Patrick
Well, you know, we talked to different people about this, that it used to be the last 10 games of your schedule meant the most going into the tournament. And I don't think that's the case now. They look at your body of work. I don't care what you did in October or November. I care what you're doing now. And St. John's you. You win the regular season, you win the Biggies tournament, you won what, six in a row? You blow out Yukon. I gotta factor that in.
Bruce Pearl
Yeah. Dan, let me give you one something to think about. I agree how you're playing lately is more important, but the schedule, because people are more interested in late February and early March. You notice how the best teams play against the best teams like crazy. That's because there are more eyeballs on college basketball after college football are over. So the last 10, I don't think is a great metrics just because of the toughness of the schedule for the best teams. I mean, if you're on, you know, so that would be just an issue. That's. That. That's why I would not lean in that direction.
Dan Patrick
Good to talk to you. Keep stirring it up.
Bruce Pearl
Appreciate you, brother. Thank you always.
Dan Patrick
That's Bruce Pearl.

It's time for the Disappointment Draft. All right, this is the first annual Disappointment Draft. So Dylan, who's part of the gambling podcast A Fresh edition up@danpatrick.com with Shane Irving and Bad Larry. All right, Dylan, explain the Disappointment Draft.
Dylan
So basically we're going to take all of the top.
Dan Patrick
By the way, by the way, social media is all over this Sammy Sosa accident in quotation marks because a Sammy Sosa figurine that I've had for decades fell off Seaton's desk. And some say Sammy might have jumped. Others, you know, weeks my cameraman who does a great job, he accidentally knocked the Sammy Sosa figurine off and shattered. But social media is coming to his defense.
Podcast Contributor
Yes, Buddy Jeff in Saskatoon. He has stated that Mr. Weeks was simply waiting until the show was over to confess. He cares that much about the vibe of the show. He didn't want to undermine the standard. The defense rests.
Dan Patrick
Okay. When Sammy Sosa went from a one of one figurine to many pieces of one, the cameraman Weeks was honoring Sosa by later acknowledging that he, quote, made mistakes like Sammy did in 2024. Would have to think that your cameraman Weeks knew nothing about the Sammy crash, given his head was buried deep under the desk at the time. Seaton has to own this one. That's from Dennis Demand. It was a loud crash. The Sammy Sosa figurine. Mr. Weeks was waiting until after the show to confess because he cares more about the vibe of the show. The defense rest. Thank you. Social media is all over this. Who would have thought Sammy Sosa figurine. It's all about content. Alrighty. Yes.
Podcast Contributor
Now see, this is already starting to like a perception is reality kind of thing. Could you imagine if Fritzi saw the figurine break instead of Seaton? The fallout would be brutal and the show would be hilarious. Lots of people saw it break. I was just the one person that got up to try to help.
Dan Patrick
So you guys saw this.
Podcast Contributor
There's many other people milling about in that video. I'm just the one that was like, oh, let me go help Weeks out.
Dan Patrick
Did you guys. Be honest. Did you guys think that I would not notice the Sammy Sosa figurine had shattered on the floor?
Paul
Paul, I know you would notice everything. I saw a football turn this morning and I went to turn it back and then I thought better of it.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paul
And I didn't touch it.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah.
Podcast Contributor
You know what? I'll admit something.
Dan Patrick
You want me to do.
Podcast Contributor
You want me to do this?
Dan Patrick
I don't know what you're going to admit.
Podcast Contributor
Okay, hold on one second. Oh, this, this. This is the 2019 MVP AUA 3 on 3 league trophy that I believe was given to Andrew Perloff.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Podcast Contributor
A few weeks ago, I knocked this off the thing and it shattered. And I had Jay in the back glue it back together and he did such a good job that I was like, oh, it's no big deal. I'll just put it back there. But I. I saved you the despair. And look, you can't tell. Look, it's back together. No big deal.
Dan Patrick
And plus, it was for McLovin.
Paul
Yeah.
Podcast Contributor
And his Andrew and I Don't care. Yeah, who cares about it?
Dan Patrick
Is there anything else that you guys would like to mention? Now's the time. Now. Clean sweep. All right. I move forward with everything, but if I find out after the fact, then we'll have issues. Yes.
Dylan
Dylan, I. I mean, I do have something to admit. I was sitting right here, and I had no idea that that thing broke or that anything was going on over there, which might be more of a different indictment.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Dylan
But I had no clue, John.
Todd
I may have taken a couple packs of dude wipes that were meant for the studio, and I may have taken it for home use.
Dan Patrick
Okay, that's okay.
Todd
Which is kind of like, you know, criminal activity.
Dan Patrick
You got. This is a, you know, one time. One time clean, clean sleep.
Paul
Paul, I wolfed down a piece of soda bread before we went to the food last week. A little quarter of soda bread. It smelled so good.
Podcast Contributor
That is a massive violation.
Paul
And I'm pretty sure it was on camera.
Todd
Yeah. Why does the host get to eat first anyway?
Dan Patrick
Everything is on camera, right? Everything is on camera. Dylan, you got anything else?
Dylan
Well, a few months ago, I broke one of your golf training sticks. But I taped it.
Dan Patrick
I noticed that you taped it.
Dylan
You did?
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Dylan
I did exactly what they said was gonna happen.
Dan Patrick
The tape part of it gave it away. That you broke something.
Dylan
Yeah, I whacked it. By accident.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paul
Paul, a bunch of years ago, when we had our first few fill in hosts for you, someone moved some stuff on your desk, and it was a red alert around here and Seaton. I were scrambling to get your desk back together. We actually took aerial photos of your desk just in case an incident like that happens again.
Dan Patrick
Terry in Seattle. Hi, Terry. What's on your mind, listener? With regard to the Sammy incident, I think that there's some culpability with whoever placed Sammy on the desk in the first place. It wasn't securely attached to the desk. And also, you could bring in Al Pacino and have him reenact his scene from Scent of a Woman and have him do a defense for the Sammy incident. All right, let me see if Al Pacino can join us.
Bruce Pearl
Let me tell you something. Every inch is a foot. Every foot's a yard. We're gonna fight for every one of
Todd
those inches because that's the difference between winning and losing.
Bruce Pearl
Now, I can't do it for you.
Todd
Now get out there and let's get that inch.
Bruce Pearl
Thank you, Terry.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Terry.
Podcast Contributor
Is that the right movie?
Bruce Pearl
No, it's definitely not.
Paul
That was four different movies.
Dan Patrick
Okay. It's Time for the disappointment.
Bruce Pearl
Think that was any given Sunday?
Dan Patrick
No, of course. That's the one you do any given Sunday. Look, but don't touch. That's the one. That's the one. That's the devil scent of a woman.
Todd
No, the.
Bruce Pearl
The. Look but don't touch.
Todd
Touch but don't touch. The devil inside.
Dan Patrick
Look, but don't touch.
Bruce Pearl
Touch but don't taste. Taste but don't swallow.
Todd
And he's up there giggling up there at you.
Dan Patrick
Okay, I can't quit this show.
Podcast Contributor
Is that an announcement?
Dan Patrick
No. For the next two years, I can't quit this show. All right, Dylan, the disappointment draft. Let's explain the disappointment draft.
Dylan
All right, so basically, Dan, how it works is we're going to be taking picking teams that we do not think will be advancing. So one through four seeds. It's going to be more akin to golf scoring. So if you take a one seed, you'll start with minus four points, two seed, minus three points.
Dan Patrick
So the more aggressive you are, the more points. And therefore total points wins.
Dylan
Correct. And you want to be lower so more in the negative or closer to zero is better. And for each, like if that team advances, you get a point added on.
Dan Patrick
Okay, so we should start with the biggest loser. Todd, you go first.
Martha Stewart
Wow.
Paul
Wait, Paul, what do you mean loser? Like sports loser? Because I would throw my name in the ring.
Dan Patrick
No, just a loser.
Paul
Oh, okay. Now I'm not.
Dylan
Yeah, if you talk to Al Pacino like that.
Dan Patrick
Hoo Ha. All right, so Todd, who's your pick now? This is the disappointment draft. They're going to disappoint.
Todd
Yes. Okay, I'm gonna go a little less brave with my first pick and say the Zags are gonna bow out quickly. I know by going with a three or four seed, you get less credit.
Dan Patrick
Just pick the team.
Todd
The Zags will disappoint.
Dylan
Dylan, since I'm kind of picking for Marvin here and I know he would be upset by this, I'm gonna take Yukon.
Bruce Pearl
Wow.
Dan Patrick
Marvin not here today. Suspended. I mean, out for a day. Seaton Earl.
Bruce Pearl
Tied.
Dan Patrick
Roll Tide. Oh, that's an easy one there. Four Seat. Paul.
Paul
The Florida Gators a oner based off almost nothing.
Dan Patrick
All right, I'm gonna. I'm gonna knock out a number two. I'm gonna knock out a number two seed. Purdue. Purdued. Wipes. Wow. See what I did with that?
Bruce Pearl
Pursued wipes.
Dan Patrick
Pursued wipes.
Todd
Okay.
Dan Patrick
All right. Yeah.
Paul
Produce veteran laden Dan.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I know. And then I'm gonna come back around and go Illinois as a three seed.
Bruce Pearl
Nice.
Paul
Paul, Hate to do it. Michigan State is a three seed.
Bruce Pearl
Oh,
Dan Patrick
John Smoltz would be disappointed. Satan. Duke Blue Devils.
Podcast Contributor
That's right.
Bruce Pearl
Whoa.
Dan Patrick
That's right, Dylan.
Dylan
I'm sorry, Dan, but I got to go Arizona.
Dan Patrick
The namesake originally Wildcats. My pick to win it all. Todd, you got two picks.
Todd
I'm gonna go with the Iowa State Cyclones. And I'm gonna go with the Virginia Cavaliers.
Dan Patrick
All right, Dylan.
Dylan
Since they've never won a tournament game, Dan, I'm gonna go Nebraska.
Dan Patrick
Oh, we love Nebraska.
Dylan
No, no knock.
Dan Patrick
We're huge in Lincoln.
Podcast Contributor
Seaton, Kansas jail.
Dan Patrick
You probably thought I was gonna take Kansas, didn't you?
Podcast Contributor
I wanted to swoop in there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you did. Paul,
Paul
is Virginia still on the board?
Dan Patrick
No.
Podcast Contributor
Yucks.
Paul
I'll go Houston.
Podcast Contributor
All right,
Dan Patrick
so it's either Michigan or Arkansas. See, Arkansas shouldn't be a four. I'll go Michigan just for the potential points there. So Arkansas is the only team that didn't get selected in the disappointment draft.
Paul
Yes, Paul, we're going to watch the games way differently.
Dan Patrick
I know, I know, I know.
Bruce Pearl
Oh, man.
Dylan
Does that mean Arkansas bows out round one?
Dan Patrick
I hope not. Nobody picked him, though.

from a really Good Cry I absolutely love getting outside, whether it's a quick walk or a mindful few steps between meetings or even a longer run to just clear my head. But the one thing that can really ruin that for me is shoes that just don't feel right. That's why I started wearing Altra running with the Ultra Fit. Every step feels comfortable, balanced and strong. Like my feet can finally move freely. What really stood out to me was the roomy toe box. My toes actually now have room to spin, spread out, which makes movement feel more natural and comfortable. And when your feet aren't cramped, you feel more balanced. Like every step has a strong, stable foundation. I've noticed that with extra space, my foot muscles get to work building strength so I can actually move with more confidence. Altra fits and moves with you no matter your pace or your goals. Beginner or marathon runner. They've really become my go to for any kind of running or training and I always feel like my feet can do exactly what they're meant to do. Dan Patrick
Just got word Chuck Norris has passed away. He was known for Texas.
Paul
Texas Walker, Texas Ranger.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, something like that. Was he known for like, did he do kung fu movies?
Paul
He was a big martial artist, originally a martial artist before he became an actor and then he got into those and 70s and 80s. He was in a couple cop movies like Code of Silence and then a lot of TV stuff.
Dan Patrick
And then he also did that workout video with Christie Brinkley.
Paul
Really?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. You never saw that infomercial for a long time.
Podcast Contributor
That's what he was most famous for was those.
Paul
I probably just saw Christy. I didn't notice.
Dan Patrick
Well, I noticed him, but I did notice her as well. But yeah, it was an infomercial.
Todd
Some flex master or something. Some kind of workout item.
Dan Patrick
They'd be on an incline bench or something and he'd be pumping some iron. Christie Brinkley would just be there looking Christie Brinkley Poll question Seaton for the final hour, we can recap the first two hours of the program.
Podcast Contributor
I remember Missing in Action being a big movie.
Paul
Good movie.
Podcast Contributor
That was a big movie.
Dan Patrick
Who, who else was in Missing in Action?
Podcast Contributor
Not sure.
Paul
Randall Tex Cobb was in that one.
Dan Patrick
Oh, he was the former fighter. Yeah. Yeah. So Chuck. No. How old was Chuck Norris?
Paul
Checking.
Dan Patrick
I'm gonna say 82. Yes, Marvin, 86. Oh, okay.
Bruce Pearl
Celebration of life.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. Once you get there, like what is celebration of life? Age. Would you say 85 is the cut off. If you get to 85, anything that happens after that, then we have a celebration of life. Anything before that, do we go, oh,
Paul
tragically died or 80 to 84 is. That's a shame.
Dan Patrick
Oh, a shame.
Paul
Yeah, cuz it's not early, but it's not like, hey man, you expected it to happen.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paul
If someone kicks at 82, you don't go, yeah, no problem.
Dan Patrick
But Steven Seagal is still alive.
Paul
Ah, come on.
Dan Patrick
Right? Yes, Marvin, we're crossing our fingers.
Todd
I hope he is
Dan Patrick
better hairpiece way. Now, Chuck Norris or Steven Seagal?
Podcast Contributor
One's more of a helmet, to be fair. One's more of a hair helmet.
Paul
Steven Seagal, 73, But Steven Seagal, it, it.
Dan Patrick
I mean that one's. That one's a rough hairpiece that he's got. It almost looks like it. It should have a chin strap, right? Oh, it's easy for you to say. You got a full head of hair. I know, I know. Yes, Marvin, Steven Seagal, he was the king of the three title movies, right?
Bruce Pearl
Yeah, like Don't Ever Die.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think Paulie focused on that, that every one of his movies has.
Podcast Contributor
Out for Justice. Yeah, Three, that might be Jean Claude Van Damme too.
Paul
Are you referring to Steven Seagal, famous for above the law, Hard to kill, Marked for death, out for justice, on Deadly Ground, Under Siege two. And then he went. He made a career choice to go. Executive decision. Two words, really gutsy. Showing his range. Then he went back to Fire Down Below, then Exit Wounds, so on and so forth.
Dan Patrick
How much is he worth though?
Podcast Contributor
Not as much as he was.
Paul
It's a good point.
Podcast Contributor
A lot of samurai swords there.
Dan Patrick
What, he bought samurai swords?
Podcast Contributor
I get the sense he always felt
Paul
a little faux to me compared to Chuck Norris.
Podcast Contributor
A little.
Paul
I wasn't sure his background was real.
Dan Patrick
Steven Seagal, but wasn't he an agent or wanted to be an agent, a foreign agent for us or like he would be a Russian, like something.
Podcast Contributor
We shouldn't be sullying the name of Chuck Norris.
Dan Patrick
No, this was Steven Seagal.
Podcast Contributor
Correct.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Podcast Contributor
We shouldn't be.
Dan Patrick
Oh, bringing in Steven Seagal. This should be Chuck Norris.
Podcast Contributor
This is about Chuck.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Yeah. All right.
Dylan
Yeah.
Podcast Contributor
This is about Chuck. By the way, new poll question. Can anyone in heaven beat up Chuck Norris?
Dan Patrick
Well, Steven Seagal's still alive.
Podcast Contributor
Yeah. Right. Right now, about 67% say no.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Yes, Marvin. Chuck versus Bruce Lee. Oh, I'm going Bruce Lee.
Podcast Contributor
Bruce Lee is probably the 33% of the yeses so far as Bruce Lee.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Podcast Contributor
But okay, so what? Your top two so far. That's what's wrong with that.
Dan Patrick
But what if I put Ali in there?
Podcast Contributor
I'm going Chuck.
Dan Patrick
Different Chuck over Muhammad Ali.
Podcast Contributor
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Good. For sure here. For sure. Yes.
Todd
Todd, wouldn't a mixed martial arts person beat up any kind of boxer, like, 100 out of 100 times?
Podcast Contributor
Correct.
Dan Patrick
Unless it's Conor McGregor against Floyd Mayweather.
Podcast Contributor
Yeah, but they forced him to. They took the MMA guy and said, but.
Dan Patrick
But you can only box.
Podcast Contributor
That is the lamest thing ever. That's, you know, ufc, if. Correct me if I'm wrong. But when it originally started, the whole point was getting all of these, like, mixed disciplines together to see which one could beat up the other, Right? So like. Like, the karate guy would go against the guy, and then it'd be like a Taekwondo guy. And you were kind of seeing which one of those was the superior form of fighting. Now it's just kind of like, well, I specialize in this, but we all sort of.
Dan Patrick
I hope you don't get a stay in.
Podcast Contributor
I'm definitely in my lane.
Dan Patrick
We are. It's Friday. It's the last hour.
Todd
Yes, Todd, I highly recommend Bloodsport with Jean Claude if you like that kind of stuff, those kind of fights.
Dan Patrick
But that's not Chuck Norris.
Todd
It's not Chuck Norris, John.
Podcast Contributor
Claude Van Damme was the guy who brought the. Or at least when I think of it, the slow motion reaction face, you're like.
Show Host/Producer
He was.
Podcast Contributor
That was like, the one thing that really stood out about his.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes, Paul.
Paul
Chuck Norris. A little background. He was in the United States Air Force then. He was a competitive martial artist. And he won, like, the All American Karate Championship. Not the All Valley Championship.
Dan Patrick
Mmm.
Paul
It's Daniel LaRusso at Madison Square Garden. He started schools, karate schools. Steve McQueen was a client. Bob Barker was a client.
Dan Patrick
Bob Barker's not having a good week, by the way. No. Well, there's a. There's a book out about the behind the scenes of prices. Right.
Paul
It doesn't go well, Donny Osmond was a client. Chuck Norris's acting breakthrough was in a Bruce Lee movie called Way of the Dragon. He fought Bruce Lee in that movie.
Dan Patrick
Oh, that's. Is that Bruce Lee's most famous movie?
Paul
One of them. Way of the Dragon, 1972. It did very well at the box office. And after that, Chuck Norris started getting more roles and then his own roles.
Dan Patrick
All right, so Chuck Norris, age 86.
Podcast Contributor
I think it's. According to this, it's the Way the Dragon. Bruce Lee versus Chuck Norris. Considered one of the greatest fight scenes ever made.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right.
Podcast Contributor
That's pretty rad.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I remember those Bruce Lee movies. I remember he'd get interviewed on late night shows. They haven't come out. I don't think he was a really big conversationalist, but it was still Bruce Lee when he would come out. All right, a little detour here.
Paul
Did we ever have Chuck Norris on the show?
Dan Patrick
We did. I don't think we did. I don't know why we would.
Paul
Well, I don't think so.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Todd.
Todd
I remember Bruce Lee being very philosophical in his interviews. He was very quiet and just had a very interesting approach to life and how to be like one with nature and being in this state of calm. It's very scary, actually, to listen to.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd.
Todd
Very intimidating.
