What a freaking day. Man. I'm pumped.
C
And now you got the show. That's good enough. Yes, good enough to get you fired up for your Thursday, which is a new Friday, by the way. So the weekend begins. Football begins. It is a great day. Steve Covino, Rich Davis, Danny G. The superstar producer with the buttery voice and the sweet beard. We got Iowa Sam, we got Spot, we got Dan Byer, we got you guys hanging out. We have lots to get to in the world of the NFL. But first and first, mostly, we be rocking out.
D
Our heads are falling off, dude. So much to get through at the NFL. But I just want to point out that I'm chuckling because I just signed up for yet another thing. If you got kids, you know, you sign up for things because you know it'll make your kids happy and laugh and then you realize, like, what am I doing? My calendar is filled with ridiculousness.
C
Tomorrow with Rob Dyrdek.
D
Yeah, tomorrow.
C
That's MTV's calendar non stop, right?
D
Do they still have MTV and do they still play ridiculousness over and over.
C
And over and over? Their calendars fill it with ridiculousness and Chanel West Coast.
D
So I told you guys I've done this in the past. Tomorrow I'm gonna be the mascot at my kid's school for like the assembly. And that's ridiculous in itself, doing the mascot dances and everything. So I'll be doing that tomorrow. And I just signed up this weekend. My daughter's softball starts do you ever.
C
Take a break or.
D
No, I don't like doing that.
C
Were you scared of your own thoughts or.
D
No, because my kids will be old one day and I'll look back and say, yeah, I maximized it.
C
I think you do it for your own attention. I think you just want to be the mascot. I just really believe that.
D
I'll send you guys the video when I do it.
C
I'm not trying to be fun, but.
D
Are you psychoanalyzing me? No, I just love it. I mean, you ever. I mean, I do love attention, but.
C
It'S like Rich was born with no chill. So she go see the wizard and get some.
D
So we got NFL. I'm really pumped to see the Astros whoopier Yankees today. Hopefully I could get closer to our bet. But of course, all eyes in the NFL. But tomorrow, all eyes on me as a mascot. And then this weekend before we get into NFL football, I've signed.
C
It wasn't about your kids. All eyes on me.
D
Yeah, me on me.
C
Don't try to fool me. I know you.
D
But get this, you may want to show up to this for charity on Sunday morning before the NFL kicks off, there's a little softball function for my daughter's team. And I signed up to be in the dunk tank once again.
C
Did you really do it for your kids or do you just want to be the clown?
D
Want to come dunk me five bucks? Rich Davis gives to a good cause.
C
Following in his family's footsteps. Long line of bozos. So there you go. I think it's funny. And you know what? You are building core memories for sure. And if you like the attention, hey, so be it. It's a win for everybody. Covino and Rich. One foot in dad life. One foot up your ass every afternoon right here on Fox Sports Radio live from la. Don't tell me what to do.
C
That's usafencing.org trifencing. I mean, when you're done in the dunk tank, fencing. Yeah, you gotta fill your schedule up with nothing Else.
D
Football, baseball, fencing. You name it, we do it.
C
But you know what? It is a holiday, and I do want to call you out. Or just not even call you out. Question. You. You can call me out and be like, well, who's your team, Cavino? The LA Aztecs. I'm wearing an LA Aztec shirt today. They're a 1974 LA soccer team. Complimented my shirt.
A
I like the colors.
C
Yeah, it's pretty cool, right?
D
Looks cool. I guess.
C
Danny G questioned, yo, Rich, how come you're not wearing your 49er shirt today? It's a holiday. And that is an interesting question. You wait all year, NFL begins, and you're not wearing your 49ers gear? Is it a game day thing or is it like, hey, it's the kickoff today. Football starts.
D
Well, if I wore the Niners gear today, I feel like that would be.
C
Yeah, but you don't have one Niner shirt.
D
No, but I feel like wearing a Niner shirt today would be like that guy that goes to the Dodgers Padres game wearing a Cub shirt. You're like, what are you doing? Today is the Eagles and Cowboys.
A
No, no.
D
Sunday's game day.
A
No, Rewind to a year ago and a year before that. Yeah, the Thursday night opener. We all had our NFL gear on for the holiday. You had a Niner shirt on last year. Exactly a year ago.
C
I'm pretty sure you did. And exactly a year ago, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings.
A
We watched another tradition.
C
My daughter locked herself out of the house, so I had to leave in a hurry.
D
I remember that.
C
Yeah. Feels like yesterday you had a 49er shirt on. So what's the rule here? Should everybody be representing it?
D
I don't know about today.
C
No, not today. Well, welcome to your team plays.
D
Let's get into this. No more dilly dally. NFL is here tonight.
C
Lazy days are over.
D
A lot of. Lot of points. A lot of points, my friends. Eight and a half. I. I feel like this is a ye. Intruders beware. Goony style. Stay away. Eight and a half is such a tricky number. You know me, I love gambling and wagering as much as anyone.
C
Yeah.
D
But it's. It's too many points for me to feel like, oh, yeah. Eight and a half. The Eagles will win by double digits, because you could easily see that. But then would you be shocked, Divisional game, opening night, if the Cowboys kept it closer? Like, just. It wouldn't be shocking because there's always surprises in the National Football League. So to me, I look at the NFL and say, all right. It's Eagles, Cowboys, division. Eight and a half's too much. But then if you bet the Cowboys to cover the eight and a half and then the Eagles whoop their ass, you'd be like, well, they. They let Micah Parsons go. This. This team's in disarray. Why would I do that?
C
I have a thought on this.
D
I would feel stupid if I lost either way on this bet.
C
It's a simple thought. I like your thought of. There's always that surprise factor, right?
D
Yeah.
C
And they keep it close, and they're better than we thought. But I also like the thought of the Eagles are in a different mindset, different place this year. I saw someone ask Jalen Hurts a question, and it was a goofy question, but at the same time, a good question. And what I mean by that is, this guy says, hey, Jalen. He's like, what's up? He goes, do you feel more confident this year because you're super bowl champions? And he's like, yeah, man. He's like, when you get a promotion, don't you feel more confident? And the guy's like, all right, well, I haven't got one in a long time. He goes, well, you know, we play to win, and, you know, I've proven that I could do it. And now that we all sort of know that we face that reality, we know what it takes. Yeah, we feel a hell of a lot more confident.
D
But what you just said gives me no more answers, because now I'm like, well, maybe they go in overconfident. Maybe they don't. Dan Byer, do you get a feel on this game at all, or no?
A
Well, I felt better on the ego side of things about a month ago, and then now the. The line moving that way makes me think maybe it could go the other way. I was just going to give you guys just a couple of numbers. We've been doing the NFL kickoff game, if you will, since 2002. There have only been six. Six instances where the road team has won that game. However, two out of those six have come within the last three years. And last year, you just mentioned the Ravens Chiefs game. Remember, Isaiah Likely's big toe was out of bounds. Could have been a.
C
Maybe a tie.
A
Yes, could have been a tie game. Maybe the Ravens go for two and win it. The point being is the road teams have had success as of late in this matchup, even though historically the defending champion or the home team in most cases, because it hasn't always been that one year. When the packers and Bears started the season because of the NFL's 100th was a year. But the home team has usually had the edge in this game.
D
And Dan Byer, when you think about where teams are in December, going into the playoffs in January, we always talk about how those teams are so different than the team you remember back in early September. So I've put so little stock into thinking these are the teams we're going to see in months from now. So to me, I wouldn't be shocked if the Eagles won, but by a touchdown, by four. And then all of a sudden you're like, that's eight and a half's a lot. But then again, if you told me it was 28 to 10, who's stopping them?
C
Their defense has no identity. They're like, who are we? What are we doing?
A
Who are we?
C
You got a solid, stellar, proven offense already, I think. I think they get stomped.
D
So you like Eagles?
C
I think Dallas might be ass. And we'll discuss that further. What are your thoughts?
D
Might be ass.
C
Now, there's another tradition. I feel like Dan Meyer could give us the best scoop on it. I don't know what it's called. The six picks. The six studio picks on the laminated sheet. Is there a cool name for the Fox Sports Radio tradition that we all.
A
Take part in that I started that you started way back? Way back when?
C
That's right.
D
Oh, the DB Doozy. I call it the DB Doozy.
C
Yeah. Is there a name for this?
A
No. It's just as simple. The 2025 Fox Sports Radio NFL preseason.
D
Picks in parentheses, in parentheses, DB's doozy.
C
DB's on a laminated piece of paper.
A
It looks so pretty at first, and then people started scratching out and repicking things. I didn't like that. I think we've done this for about 15 years. Number one, the translucent cover came in because of too many coffee and food spills that happen, unfortunately, in a radio studio. We've also had to take precautions with empty boxes because people change their pics in week eight. That will look differently once it is officially sealed. But we give them up until Sunday at least week one to make their predictions in the studio because we haven't.
C
Officially filled it out yet. But we will make our pick. So let me describe this right now. DB's doozy started it. DB, he started 15 years ago, as you heard. So we're honored to be part of the tradition for the past, what, four or five years now. Rich. And it's a piece of paper that's taped down on the console. In the other studio right there, right where Danny G. And Sam are. And everybody here at Fox Sports picks their AFC champ, their NFC champions, the super bowl champ out on a limb, like what's your out on a limb. Take the worst team in the NFL and your mvp. So that's how this goes down and we're going to do it live here on the show because that's shows tradition, right? Danny G. Yeah.
A
We've been doing this for a few years now on the kickoff of NFL's regular season.
C
Well nervous because once Dan Byer laminates that paper, it's all over. Oh yeah, it's official after.
D
It's like a tattoo.
A
Choose wisely.
C
I know. I really am a little nervous about it.
D
So we'll go down the road, go around the room category by category and no and no guys, I haven't decided yet. None of that nonsense.
A
No, it's one person at a time, Rich.
D
Yes.
A
Ok. Yeah. One person at a time. So Covina, we're going to start with you.
C
I don't know if I'm prisoner of the moment or hard knocks really sold me or I believe in Josh Allen who I have in our Guillotine League, Dan Byers league. But they've got so much to play for. Josh Allen has that newlywed sort of aura and confidence about him. He has more to play for. And it's their last season in the old stadium. Bills is my pick. Buffalo Bills, man, I just think it's their year. They've come too close. It's their year this year.
D
All right.
A
All right. Now NFC champion Covino, NFC champ.
C
It's easy, easy breezy, beautiful. I already said it. They're playing with a different confidence this year. They proven they could do it and I don't think there are any less often they were last year. Like I said, I think the confidence and the vibe they're bringing this year makes them better. So Eagles is your NFC champ. I'll look at you Bill's Eagles. Sometimes the obvious choice is the is.
A
The right choice and then your super bowl champion.
C
So I really thought about this and as confident as the Eagles are sometimes, like you said, Rich, sometimes you can be overly confident. I don't subscribe to that all the time, but I do believe in this case the foot's not on the gas as much as it would be last year. And I feel like the Bills have more to play for. I feel like they got what it takes to beat the Eagles. Super bowl champion, the Bills. I know. I feel like, I feel I'M trying to sound convincing, but at the same time, I'm like, wait, am I sure, or am I just really buying into Hard Knocks?
A
Yeah. Because you're not scratching out anything on this sheet. All right, out on a limb. Now you're surprised.
C
All right, you guys can help me phrase this. Okay. Because it's more of a thought. I feel like Russell Wilson's going to have a good season, but do I just simplify and say the Giants have a winning record this year?
A
Yeah.
C
Is that. Would that be fair enough? Like, and it's not even necessarily Wilson. I feel like Wilson and dart, like, combined. I feel like they have a good energy about them. I feel like they're playing with a lot of chemistry. So I'll just say the Giants have a winning season.
A
Is that right? Yeah. Giants above quite a limb, to be honest with you, for a team that picked fourth last year in the draft.
C
Right, Right. And we did some schedule watching, and it seems unlikely, but that's the out on the limb portion of it. Right? It's unlikely, but I'm out on a limb, and there's a part of me that believes it.
A
Your worst team in the league, Browns.
C
I think everything about them is doo doo, including the color of their uniform.
D
No, you don't like the old doozy. All right.
C
And mvp. So there is a silver lining and a shining light. Even though I picked the Eagles to lose the Super Bowl, MVP is Saquon Barkley. So there you have it.
D
Okay.
C
Those are my picks. All right.
A
All right. Rich Davis.
D
Now, I don't want to say that I changed my picks at all because of Kavino, but I had a couple things where I was a similar. I had a similar thought. So I'm going to mix it up a little bit because I do love Buffalo in the afc, but it's so. To me, it's so even between two teams. So I'll go opposite. I think the Ravens. I think Lamar Jackson, that team is stacked. They were an end zone drop away from sort of moving along last year. I. I think the Ravens and Bills are the elite, but I'm going to go Ravens, AFC. Lamar, if he's going to win one. He's 28. I feel like he's been in the league 25 years. He's only 28. He's in his prime. Lamar Jackson, AFC. You got the Ravens. Now, NFC, you might think I'm going to be a homer and say 49ers, 49ers are going to lose the NFC championship game.
C
Oh, to the Lions, Wow.
D
I think we got the Lions. I hate to say it. I think the 49ers are going to over deliver people back. Wow. Purdy and Kittle and McCaffrey, they're the real deal. They're healthy. They stay healthy. But I think the Lions, this is the year they get over the hump. And now you got the Lions. Ravens in the Super Bowl. And I. I hate to crush the feelings and hearts of all the Lions fans out there because it's. It would be so beautiful to see them win. I just think this is Lamar's year. I think the Ravens are Super bowl champions. Lock it in.
C
I mean, it sounds fun. I like it. I do.
D
Again, I'm not. I'm not. I'm not giving you alternate answers just to cover my base, but I love Cavino's Giants answer. I was even going to go on a limb and say that they make the postseason, but my other one is equally crazy. So I think this is the year when you look through the divisions and you look through what could go right and what could go wrong. Couple things go wrong. And I think the Chiefs missed the playoffs.
A
Whoa.
D
I think they're 10, 7 and somehow miss on a tiebreaker. It's going to be one of those, like, remember the year The Patriots won 10 games, but they lost a tiebreaker and they didn't make the playoffs? I think this is one of those, like, I hate to say it because I love them, but I think they're good guys. But I think there's a couple key injuries or something happens. A couple balls that don't bounce their way.
C
So you're saying that windows aren't. I think that window's closed.
D
I think it's just. They go 10 and 7 or 9 and 8. They're a winning team, but they somehow are on the outside looking. And so Chiefs miss.
A
So you have the Chargers tomorrow.
D
I have the Char. This is one of those things, like, the Chargers may win a close game. Right. You don't know. Worst team.
A
Yep. Who you got at the bottom?
D
I got to go. Camino. Browns. I was going to say Saints, but Browns go Browns. But they're terrible.
A
They're going to be all right in your mvp.
D
I think just based on offensive numbers alone, they'll make the postseason. Joe Burrow. I think he's going to put up circus numbers. So Joe Burrow is my mvp.
C
Yeah. That's fun. That's good.
D
Yeah. There we go. Lock me in.
C
I like all those. Yeah, that's great.
D
What do you got, Danny?
A
G. All right, I'll go really quick here and then we'll go to buyer. AFC champ. I'm going to go Bills. I've been writing that in for two, three seasons in a row now. I think it's going to happen finally. NFC champ. You know I was high on the packers before the whole Micah Parsons deal. Jordan Love I think is going to take another step forward. You know what Josh Jacobs especially, I know what he can do. Being from the Raiders, I loved how they drafted Matthew Goldman.
D
Goldman, a lot of people think is going to be like legit.
A
Yeah, I think he's going to have a great season. I'm going to go the packers as the NFC champ. Okay, so nice super bowl there between the Bills and the packers. But a lot of the same reasons as you mentioned Covino the last season in their old stadium. Watching Hard Knocks, I feel like it's density that they win.
D
You're my density.
A
The long suffering fans there.
C
Right. And, and, and that is that too. Like eventually they have to win for those 90s teams that didn't like. I feel like it's destined to eventually happen.
A
Yeah. Has to out on a limb. This is where I'll give my one homer pick. Dante Thornton Jr. First receiver since Megatron to be at least 64 or above and run a 4 3.
C
Wow.
A
He's turned so many heads in camp in the preseason. I'm saying that that rookie for the Raiders was he fourth, fifth round pick. He's going to have over 1,000 receiving yards and be one of the new star receivers.
D
We're going to be talking about him.
A
Yes.
D
Okay.
A
Worst team. I also wrote down Browns.
C
Okay.
A
MVP Josh Allen.
C
Nice.
A
I was thinking about. Yeah, he's going to light it up all season long. Newly married swag that you've. I mean he already had swag but.
D
He'S going to be swaging new new bride, new fiance, new or babies. Because if you think babies then McCaffrey and Purdy are both new dads.
C
No, but you know what, you know it's a great indicator, Rich. Like let's say you got a chance to talk to everybody at Fox Sports and everyone just praised Rich Davis. Like he makes our job so much easier. He's the greatest guy. He's fantastic at what he does. No, but when you get that sort of praise from your peers and people you work with, it says a lot. And when they talk about Josh Allen in Buffalo, man, it's like everybody loves him.
D
Gotta tell you.
C
And even his, even his, the players, they look at him like, yo, that's our guy, man. Superhero.
D
You might be wearing your, your Josh Allen hard knocks Bills blinders right now. Because I'll tell you this, I would want them to win. I picked the Ravens and I stick by it. But if you ask me who I want to win, I love Buffalo. I would love to see. But I just think the Ravens are. If they keep it together and, and I just think they're gonna be hard to beat.
C
One of the players on the Bills, there was a scene, Danny G, you remember this, where like somehow they got Josh Allen sweat on them.
A
That's right. Yeah.
C
And it was one of his player, one of his receivers or something, right? A young, like younger player. And he's like, yo, man, I just hope some of that greatness rubs off on me.
D
Like they think they're drinking. They're drinking the juice. It's not.
C
If they're thinking that, like, there's a lot to it, man.
A
It's just like this aura around him.
C
They love this dude and it's bound to happen. So we'll see.
A
All right, now it is Dan Byers turn. Dan, I love your guys pick so far. And if you would ask me this in June, I would have had a different answer. In fact, if you'd have asked me this two weeks ago, I would have had a different answer. I like a lot of your stuff, but in the afc, for as much as I want to believe in the Bills, fantastic storyline. The Hard Knocks. The final season of High Mark Stadium. Things don't end well for Buffalo and they're going to end in the AFC Championship game when the Denver Broncos come to town and upset the Buffalo Bills. Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara. They'll be back there representing the AFC in Super Bowl 60.
D
That's a good pick, DB. I like that. That's a fun one.
A
And in the nfc, I'll tell you what, there's a lot of teams that we think we could expect great things from, but one team that we aren't talking about was actually talked about by Rich Davis just a little bit ago. The only thing we say about the Lions is they lost both of their coordinators. We're talking about Philadelphia, we're talking about Washington, we're talking about Green Bay, we're talking about Minnesota, we're talking about the Rams. Good or bad, all of these teams. But we're not talking about Detroit. And I think that helps them. I like the lines as well. The Lions are my representative in the nfc and in that Broncos Lions matchup.
D
That's a cool matchup.
A
Much like the Bills, things don't end well for the Lions. The Denver Broncos will be your Super Bowl 60 champions.
D
And by the way, does that not elevate the profile of Sean Payton if that's the case?
A
Right. I love what they have up front. They sent Nick Bonito to his extension today. I love offensively their offensive line. I think it's a real team concept. So that's why I'm buying into Denver.
C
You know, let me make this one point. Can't argue Dan Buyer with it. Doesn't end well for the Bills and the Lions, right? It seems that way, but you don't think that ever changes.
D
But DB is just written in the stars. Db, your Bronco pick sort of leans into the possibility of my out on a limb, which was Chiefs maybe on the outside looking in. What is your out on a limb?
A
My out on a limb was going to come from the AFC west, but it's more towards Cavino's world. While he loves the Giants, not everything is going to go right for the Commanders. Commanders missed the playoffs this year. That's my out on a limb. Worst team Saints. Kellen Moore's contract shows that this year isn't worth what it is. So you're not going to give him a three or four year deal? I think he got a five year deal. Point is is this is kind of a throwaway year for the Saints. I think they're the worst team in the league and I've said it. I'm just going to pick Joe Burrow every year until he wins an mvp. So I'm doing it again this year. Joe Burrow, my mvp.
C
That's a cool pick.
D
All right, well, we'll spot and Sam, you got a little extra time to think about this? We'll go over your picks. Plus we'll do a little preview of tonight and week one of the NFL. And of course, we can't forget just because football is starting, we can't forget that we got 20 games left in baseball. So a couple quick MLB observations and we do all that next on a Throwback Thursday.
C
Kavino and Rich game on. Week one starts now. And every touchdown brings you closer to a payout with DraftKings Sportsbook, an official sports betting partner of the NFL. This isn't just football. We're talking sleeper picks, breakout stars, and the players you can't afford to bench. Whether it's rookies making noise or veterans keeping their value, we cover it all.
C
Whether you're drafting for the first time.
A
Or chasing another championship, we'll give you the edge, the insight, and the confidence to make every move count. Weekly analysis, hot takes, and insider knowledge all in one place. So what's it gonna be? Another just okay season or total fantasy domination? Listen to the NFL Fantasy Football podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
C
Are you ready? What an exciting day, huh? Covino and Rich, Fox Sports Radio, Live from the FOX Sports Radio studio. Business fluctuations make running your manufacturing business complex. But staffing your business doesn't have to be. Let express pros, express employment pros provide the workforce you need. Go to expresspros.com find a location near you. That's expresspros.com thank you. Expresspros.com yeah, buddy. Are you ready for some football? Are you ready?
D
Is. Is your favorite Monday Night Football combo? Definitely got to be Al, Frank and Dan.
C
I mean, that's the one we grew up with.
D
Is that. Is that Bring back the. The nostalgia to the childhood? It's got to, right?
C
That's the one I think of.
D
All right, let's. Let's keep this rolling. Our NFL predictions, the DB doozy, the buyer sheet that's in the studio every year. I was. Samuel, you are up. All right, this is where you pick your afc, NFC super bowl out on a limb, worst team and mvp.
C
And there's no going back once you say it's official, bro.
D
Can you believe V.J. husky?
C
No, I can't. Oh, oh, there's more to that.
A
You can just end it there.
D
He wrote on the sheet VJ Husky. But then he insisted he put a little arrow and wrote the big vanilla.
A
Poppy on a separate line.
C
Or the same.
D
No, like making sure we know it was him. Just so you know. All right, let's go. I was.
A
Now that we've confirmed that representing the NFC in my prediction will be the LA Rams.
D
What?
A
The LA Rams representing the AFC will be the Baltimore Ravens. Should I give my super bowl pick at the end?
C
Are you sure about that? Yep.
A
It's gonna be Rams vs. The Ravens in the Super Bowl.
D
Okey dokey.
A
But my worst team is gonna be the Browns. My out on a limp pick is going to be the Pats. Go nine and eight with Mike Vrabel there. It's first year.
D
Is that really out on a limb though, Sam?
A
I mean, I don't know if much is expected of the Patriots.
D
I might.
A
I'm just joking. Nine and eight. I don't know. And I'm not saying they make the playoffs or not. I'm just saying they go nine and eight.
D
Sam, be ballsy. Say the Patriots will win against the playoffs new. Come on.
A
My MVP, C.J. stroud of the Texans.
D
Whoa. Now that's an out on the limb.
A
I could hit my out on one.
C
That's a good one. I like that.
A
Okay. And then my super bowl champion will be the Los Angeles Rams. Matthew Stafford's bad back. All the Rams win it. Ram it all day.
D
Ram it all day. Rams, huh?
A
I'd rather hear what big vanilla Husky chokes spot.
D
What do you got by the way? The Rams, Sam. They are in my mind the one of the top few, like, I don't know, teams. In fact, Jam Buyer and I were having the conversation during the break that like Devonte Adams to me is one of the top few confusing players. Like if he had 1200 yards or 200 yards, I wouldn't be shocked either way.
A
There's a lot of questions in la, but we questioned them last year without Aaron Donald and look at how good they were. They ended up winning the division. Quick point over under win total for the Patriots. Eight and a half. That's what it is.
D
So his out on a limb is terrible.
A
It's just north of eight and a half wins was expected.
D
So you really just picked the over. Sam, congratulations. All right, spot, you're up.
A
Oh, thanks. That was a much more bold prediction than that.
C
All Right.
A
Mine is going to be short and.
C
Sweet with the help of chat GPT.
A
So for the afc, it actually Rich aligns with you. We have the Baltimore Ravens as the front runner for the afc and you.
D
Went to Maryland for college.
C
You know what?
A
I always. I did always like the Ravens.
C
I.
D
Turtle boy.
A
Yeah. Little Turpin.
D
I love turtle boy.
A
For the nfc.
D
You like turtles.
A
We're going to go with the Green Bay Packers.
D
Wow. Okay.
A
And obviously, of the two going to the super bowl, the winner will be.
C
The Baltimore Ravens and as a result.
A
Mr. Lamar Jackson will be the NVP.
D
That's. These are good picks.
C
These are good picks.
A
Worst record. Rich, you said. Who'd you say again? The Browns. I'm going to go with the Saints.
C
As the worst record, which I know.
A
Where you're backup and the out on a limb. Travis Kelsey will take the stage at super at the super bowl this year alongside his fiance, Taylor Swift.
C
Wow.
A
Be the halftime show.
D
So you think he'll be there, but not.
A
But not playing. He will be on stage doing some.
C
Sort of goofy antics alongside Taylor Swift. I like that. There you go. That is a good one. All right, so now your thoughts. Your thoughts. FOX Sports Radio Nation. Hit us up at 87799 on Fox.
D
You know, first I was gonna say as we go to Dan Buyer, I would love to hear the feedback from you guys. I want to hear your out on a limbs. I feel like that's my favorite category. You know, it could be really risky like Sam and pick half a game over Vegas's prediction. But let's go to db what you got there?
A
The crazy thing is, is things have been so bad in New England that it did appear on the surface that it would be so. Yeah. So I'm going to. I'm going to. I'm going to stick up for Sam in that part. There were a lot of outer limbs that I wanted to choose for things that are happening and none of which will probably come to fruition. But it'll be fun to hear what everybody thinks.
C
DB Can I ask you a question?
A
Yes.
C
Do you think choosing a running back as MVP would be out on a limb? I feel like so much. I know it's rare, but we've moved, you know, back the importance of a running back.
A
I'm going to let Rich finish my sentence.
D
If Saquon didn't win last year, Running back will never win.
A
Yes.
C
Ever. I'm saying this year, I mean, because I know, I understand quarterback is going to get that, that nod, but we've put so much emphasis on the importance of running back again that maybe this year, maybe, I don't know, I, if.
A
If Saquon doesn't win it, they, they figure to work around, give them offensive player of the year. Give the quarterback the MVP you have. I think you have a better chance of a defensive player winning MVP than you would a running back just because of the quarterback. Cowboys and Eagles tonight, 8:20 Eastern Times kicks off the NFL season. Some other news from the NFL. Amari Cooper's calling it quits. The veteran wide receiver called Pete Carroll this morning and said, yeah, I'm not going to play anymore, coach. He signed with the Raiders last week, the team that drafted him in the first round a decade ago. The Broncos and edge rusher Nick Benito agreed to a four year extension worth $106 million. Seahawks gave right tackle Abe Lewis a three year, Abe Lucas a three year extension. Jets confirmed that Elijah Vera Tucker is going to miss the season. Texans won't have Christian Kirk against the Rams as the wide receiver has a hamstring injury. No practice today for Brown's defensive end Miles Garrett. Wyoming announced they'll retire Josh Allen's number 17 jersey in their home finale on November 22 against Nevada. Brewers and Phillies right now scoreless, playing in the top of the sixth in Milwaukee. Back to you guys.
C
Thank you. Dan Byers, any way we could send Devin Williams back to the Brewers? Is that possible, like somehow?
A
Oh, thanks.
C
I would love that.
A
It's all yours.
D
I loved him last night. I was watching that with snake was 44 and I'm like, come on Devin Williams, show me the guy you are. And Astros win, guys.
C
A nightmare.
D
Just, just to it seems like so long ago, but you know, it was 2023 when Amari Cooper had 1200 yards. Like sometimes in the NFL grand opening, grand closing, meaning something could go wrong real quick and you're done like that. So hey, good luck to Amari Cooper. All right, coming up, we're going to go old school when 50 hits and we're going to, we're going to talk about the faces of cities and sports.

D
Celebrating.
C
Celebrating some football tonight. Cavino Enrich to Fox Sports Radio studio. And it's time, Rich. It's time already. Wow. It's time for the Tyrack play of the day. Don't look now, but the giants have won 10 of their last 11.
D
Oh.
C
And are four games behind the Mets for the NL wild card race.
A
Two, two. A swing.
E
There's a high drive.
A
It's way back. It is gone. Chapman does it again. Rerun Blast here in this top of.
E
The sixth inning and the Giants have.
A
Opened up a 9 to 5 lead.
D
Can I tell you that my met fan friends are so foolish that they're like, the Mets aren't safe. I'm like, I get it. Four games isn't a ton. But you know the Giants, who? Everyone, they won nine of 10. I'm relying heavily on Danny G and all the Dodgers. They play the Dodgers seven more times. So. So that alone makes me feel like, all right, I feel okay if the Dodgers.
A
Except the Dodgers are struggling right now.
D
Yeah, the Dodgers, I think, have beaten the Giants four out of six this year. So hopefully they'll just take care of the Giants. But the Giants are hot. Bay Area, I feel you. You're looking good. Now that is courtesy, by the way, of kmbr, Giants Radio network. That's our tyrek play of the day and shout outs to our bay Area affiliate, AM960. I'm not rooting for your Giants, but I'm rooting for your niners.

All right, you want to, you want to kick it to James in Virginia. He has a good out on a limb. We were talking about our big picks and then we'll go old school in a few. What's up, James?
A
Oh, thanks for taking my call. Gentlemen, happy Thursday. Happy NFL season, right?
C
Hell yeah, James.
D
Gentlemen, I know you're a commander's guy, yo. You should have said Kavino so confident. He saw a prop bet on the screen and it was Saquon tonight. 94 and a half yards and Cavino's like over definitely. Like, yeah, like he's so confident.
C
I think so.
D
Keep that in mind. What's up? Man?
A
Oh, man. So I'm definitely taking the Chiefs in the super bowl, man, until someone knocks them off. It is Casey in the afc. All the way away. Gotta, gotta go with commanders. For the first time since I was a kid, I can legitimately say they have a, a chance to go to a Super bowl this year. I'm gonna take Jaden Daniels as my mvp. I do believe that Joe Burrow definitely has a chance to win mvp. My two out on the limbs are. I think the Cincinnati Bengals make the AFC championship this year. Offensive firepower is immense, but I feel like they just got to get their defense straight. I think my, my other out on the limb is also my worst team. I think the Dallas Cowboys are going to be the worst team in the NFL.
D
Ooh, you know, I wonder if the Cowboys. I wonder if they are going to be asked or not. That's. That's the question, really.
C
Hey, thanks for the call. And that's the beauty of today, right? All of these things are a possibility. It's a clean slate. Enjoy it while you can. And more of your feedback at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. Now we do this every Thursday. Look at the time. If there's a sur. Yay.
A
What we gon do right here is go back.
C
Back into time.
A
Throwing it back for a Thursday old school when 50 hits at 50 after C& R give you the time capsule topic and we reminisce together.
C
Yeah, we get you involved together. Like he said. 87799 on Fox, Ovino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. But, hey, give us a call. We appreciate it. Now, we're celebrating some birthdays today. Rich, you love giving birthday shout outs on pop 2k. It's your girl Beyonce's birthday. She's 44. Queen bee, Reggie Jackson style. Who do you think of 44?
D
44, definitely reg.
C
44.
D
I went to Syracuse. Syracuse, that's the number given to all the greats. So I would say 44. I think of Syracuse and I think of Reggie. And who else do you think of?
C
44, that's who I think.
D
Tom Raffman on the 49ers.
C
Well, she's Dallas of the Colts. Now, when I say Beyonce, what city do you think of? To me, that's an easy one, duh. Houston, right now. It's also Mike Piazza's birthday, by the way. This is a shocker to me. I mean, it was. Makes sense. But it's like, damn, he's 57. He looks great, too. I interviewed him like, I don't know, a year and a half, two years ago. Looks fantastic. I met the whole Piazza family, the Piazza brothers.
D
You know how long ago that's been?
C
How long?
D
Five plus years since I met him. Yeah, how do you know? I know for a fact because you and I were supposed to host an event together.
C
What does it have to do with the price of bananas? I was giving them a compliment.
D
No, you and I were supposed to host an event together. I couldn't go because my son was being born. And you're like, bro, you missed out. I'm hanging with Piazza. I'm having lunch. And I was like. I was jealous.
C
Hey, well, he looked great.
D
His family owns, like, car companies.
C
Yeah, car dealership, too, when I met him. Yeah, his family comes from a long line of car dealers. I met the whole family. But Mike Piazza, gracious dude. When you think of Piazza, you may think of two cities. Is he a New York guy or an LA guy? He had some giant moments with the Mets after 9 11, but he was.
D
Possibly offensively better as a Dodger.
A
Yeah, he was a favorite here in Los Angeles.
C
So based on Beyonce's birthday and Piazza's birthday, Beyonce represents Houston, Piazza represents. I mean, we could fight over it. LA or New York, but he's synonymous with both. When you think back to your childhood, what athletes represent, what city in your mind, or celebrities does it have to be athlete. Like I'll give you the obvious example, Rich. I think you and I will both agree when you think of Kansas City back in the day, it might be different now, but I think George Brett, he was part of the welcoming committee when we were there for the first time. You know, there's certain athletes, certain faces, certain celebrities that you just associate with that city, period. So we open it up to you.
D
George Brett is a great example because you're right at the minute. I think if you say Kansas City. Yeah. People are going to think oh, Mahomes and Kelly, Kelsey and barbecue and this had a few changed. My first thought is Sam's love for Paul Rudd and probably George Brett.
C
Yeah. So again, it's gonna be different generationally but for the most part, like George Brett is in our wheelhouse of growing up. That's who I think of as a kid. Who do you associate with a particular city like they are the king of that city. 87799 on Fox. We go to you and we'll go.
D
Over some, some week one matchups. NFL is happening and we'll get to all that next right here, Fox Sports Radio. Covino and Rich.

Podcast Network: iHeartPodcasts & Dan Patrick Podcast Network
This episode of Covino & Rich on The Dan Patrick Show is a high-energy celebration of the NFL's return. With an all-star cast of personalities—including Steve Covino, Rich Davis, Danny G., Dan Byer, Iowa Sam, and Spot—the team dives headfirst into NFL predictions, traditions, and the excitement of kickoff night. The episode blends humor, personal stories, debates about game-day traditions, and a deep dive into their annual predictions (the legendary "DB Doozy" sheet).
Celebrating Kickoff Day: The crew is amped about the return of the NFL, and Rich hilariously shares how his schedule is overloaded with his kids' activities and his own mascot gig.
Game Day Gear Debate: Should you wear your team’s gear on NFL kickoff, even if your team isn’t playing?
Point Spread: The opener features Eagles (-8.5) vs. Cowboys.
Team Confidence & Overconfidence: Discussion on whether post-Super Bowl swagger (Eagles) can be a double-edged sword.
Are Cowboys “Ass”?:
A long-standing Fox Sports Radio tradition, the "DB Doozy" (named after Dan Byer) is a laminated, in-studio sheet where each host records their picks for:
Covino
Rich Davis
Danny G.
Dan Byer
Iowa Sam
Spot
Covino calling out the Cowboys:
“I think Dallas might be ass.” [12:35]
On the anxiety of locking in picks:
“Once Dan Byer laminates that paper, it’s over. It’s official—like a tattoo.” – Covino [14:35]
On Hard Knocks and Bills hype:
“I feel like Josh Allen’s got swag… everyone just praised Josh Allen in Buffalo, man, it’s like everybody loves him.” – Covino [23:07]
Rich’s hot take on the Chiefs:
“I think the Chiefs miss the playoffs. Winning team, but on the outside looking in.” [19:58]
