Rich Davis
Listen, I'm going to tell you right now. I'm going to tell you right now, buddy boy. I was Sam might be the party star of the event so far. I was Sam has a Wayne's World hat on and a skin tight Iowa T shirt.
Steve Covino
Mean, would we expect anything else?
Rich Davis
I mean, I don't know, maybe Lorena and Monty are the party stars.
Steve Covino
Oh yeah. I mean their outfit is way cooler than iOS. Am I would say. I think so. Yeah. You can see all of that on our social media pages at Covino and Rich at fox Sports Radio CRC 20. And I promise you after this big party, we're gonna have to start lying about how long we've been doing this because we're still the youngest in the game. Let's make that clear. All right? Yeah, but it could get crazy. You never know who's going to stop by riches drinking. I mean, apparently supposedly. But hey guys, thank you all for being here live and for everybody who couldn't be here live. Hey, we'll do it again next time. We'll do it again. We'll bring the party to you. But thank you for listening wherever you are, whoever you are. Thanks being part of our family and thanks again to everybody at Fox sports radio and iHeart.
Rich Davis
So I want to start where we left off last night. I meet you at the airport. You and our buddy Shay. Yeah. Who works at Fox Sports Radio. You're sitting at the bar at the airport and I look at the screen, I'm like, oh yeah. NBA Finals. The Pacers forcing a game seven. Does that make Caliburton look like the G? Even though he really didn't do that much.
Steve Covino
It was the whole Daniel LaRusso's gonna fight laced him up. And I think just his presence alone really sparked the team because they just wiped him out yesterday. They dominated that game. SGA didn't have a great game. And superstars always step up. I know that's the theory. That's the thought that when it comes down to a game seven, whoever has the best player, a lot of people say usually wins it. But the Pacers looked strong yesterday and Hallie Burton even play that much. But he was impactful.
Danny G
Yesterday we talked about how the Pacers rarely lose back to back games.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
And with that crowd behind him and Howie coming out the way he did and we said he would probably be a facilitator, which he was. That steal and that no look pass to Siakam was insane. It was a poster moment.
Steve Covino
Awesome. And by the way, the smoothest voice in radio. Let's give it up for Danny G.
Rich Davis
Hey, there he is.
Steve Covino
Danny G producer Danny G on the mic. And again the phones are open. 87799 on Fox.
Rich Davis
What I thought was interesting is that this is the first game seven in 10 years. 2016. So it's been a minute since we've seen a game seven in the NBA finals. So we get that Sunday night and again we have to wait so long. It's. It's Friday week, Saturday, Sunday. So they. But you know what that could mean. Arrested Halliburton and a. A real battle.
Steve Covino
Well, dude, that's the plus side here too because that gives him more chance to heal up, make sure the calf is right. I don't think he overextended. He played with the spark and adrenaline. I think that rest benefits the Pacers moving forward. Even though it's away. So guys, your thoughts? Let's open it up and you know, keep this whole game, this whole series in mind because in a few minutes we're going to talk about growing rivalries. Yeah. Because I think even though it's not the greatest for ratings and there's a lack of star power, as people say, dude, we're going to a game seven. So hey, if you're not vibing it, maybe you're just old, maybe you're just not feeling it. But I'm telling you, this has been a great series so far.
Rich Davis
I know early to say it's a rivalry, but they all start somewhere, right? Like, like the Celtics, Lakers rivalry started somewhere. Every rivalry started somewhere. But I think the question Camino could very well be, can a new rivalry surpass an old one? Because when you think back, think of your favorite team. Did they always have the same rival? Big Mike, who runs this place?
Danny G
Who?
Steve Covino
Mike. He was talking about the Reds and Dodgers.
Rich Davis
He was like, yeah, there was a.
Steve Covino
Rivalry at one point. You know, old school organizations, teams with history, rivalries, they sort of dwindle and fizzle after a while and maybe we're seeing one grow here. Can it surpass like Rich said, 87799 on Fox. Because as a Yankees fan, everybody knows the biggest rivalry is the Red Sox. But is it really the biggest rivalry? I feel like it's grown in the past few series is.
Rich Davis
But that would be Siri.
Steve Covino
Siri.
Danny G
Yeah, but there used to be a bigger rivalry between your Yankees and my Dodgers.
Steve Covino
I was just gonna say that though, with the World Series last year, with the interleague play recently I was at.
Rich Davis
The game Rich, but that was like a late 70s, early 80s, East Coast, west coast, Dodgers, Yankees. And it took like a 40 year hiatus.
Danny G
Yeah. Even prior to that going back.
Steve Covino
But dude, that one I feel is stronger than Yankees Red Sox again, that one is back. And I even think the Yankees Mets, because of the Mets stealing Soto and all the animosity there. And then the Mets are trying to prove they're the, the bigger team in New York. They're not the little brother team that builds a big bigger rivalry to me than Yankees, Red Sox. So yeah, I think we could be seeing the start of something new here and something better. Well, I think it can surpass Rich. The classic ones will always be classic, but there's room for new.
Rich Davis
I, I think what happens is your team has a rival. When one of those teams suck, you have to find a new rival. Right. Like I'm a I'm a Mets fan. When the Mets were sucking, do you think the Braves were like, mets are still our rivals. They're like, no, the Mets stink.
Steve Covino
So I, I, how about this theory? If you don't have a rival, you sort of suck because rivals push each other. And if no one's pushing you, you're probably not that good. Like, you have to have someone after you, someone that you hate. It's great for ratings, great for drama, great for the fandom. It's great for pushing your team to the next level. We say it all the time. My favorite example, I do all this stuff on the History Channel as we jokingly talk about, he's history boy, I'm history boy. Look out for me. Sunday nights, hazardous history, new show. But every Coca Cola needs their Pepsi, their Pepsi to push them further. Every Muhammad Ali needs their Joe Frazier to push them further. If you don't have a rivalry, you're not bringing the best. That means no one cares about you. It's kind of like if you don't have haters, then you're not that dope.
Rich Davis
Yeah. If you're, if you're in the entertainment world and no one hates you.
Steve Covino
So rivalries are a good thing and we need to honestly start embracing that. As sports fans, we just love drama. Like, I'll tell you what biggest rivalry now is the Dodgers Padres.
Rich Davis
We're gonna get to that. Yeah. To back up your point before we get to Dodgers Padres, because I think that's the hot story. Right. What makes the WNBA have a heartbeat for the first time in ever, let's be honest, rivalry. It's Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and it's people going after Caitlyn Clark.
Steve Covino
Genuine heated rivalry.
Rich Davis
And it seems like there's players that genuinely don't like each other and that is what they need.
Steve Covino
The key word there is genuinely. And think about that. Fox Sports Radio Nation, 87799 on Fox. Would you rather tune into a fight, a fight where people are buddy chummy and they have this sort of respect for each other.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
That's great sportsmanship. But isn't it more intriguing when they genuinely hate each other?
Rich Davis
When there's a pre fight staredown. Yeah. And a press conference and the fighters are like, yo, I hate that guy. You know, I like, I just like.
Danny G
I so hard to tell which ones are real though.
Steve Covino
Hey.
Danny G
Because we've even heard some of the boxers afterwards. Some of the events we've been to where they're like, yeah, I was playing it up. I don't hate them.
Steve Covino
That much. Sometimes it's showmanship. We get all that. But I'd rather see some showmanship than nothing at all. Right, so again we're Covino Enriched live from Circa Stadium Swim celebrating the show's history, bringing the fun to you. But we do want to take phone calls. I want to give props back at the studio. Perfet and Jay Stewer on the phones at 877-99-FOX if you want to chime in. Because the question, the core of it, Based on the NBA Finals Game 7, based on Dodgers, Padres, they're hitting each other. This animosity, we love the drama, we love the growing rivalry. Can the new rivalry surpass the classics?
Rich Davis
I think it could. And I want to ask Jay Stu because I know he's a big Dodgers fan like you. J. Stu, thanks for hanging, brother. Do you.
Ryan Seacrest
Hello, everybody.
Rich Davis
Do you look at this? Padres, Dodgers hitting each other, bench, benches clearing, Dave Roberts pushing people. This is first of all great for baseball. But do you look at the Dodgers Padres as now the hottest rivalry in Major League Baseball? I do.
Jay Stu
You know what, just earlier this week we had NFL draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah on the Doug Gottlieb show. And I think he put it perfectly. I think it's the best matchup in baseball right now. But he was very careful not to use the word rivalry because we have a rival up north in San Francisco that goes back 130 years and I consider just one rivalry per team. So I can't call it a rival.
Rich Davis
Oh, so you're saying great match.
Steve Covino
Why? Because there's a younger generation that sports that everything is always marketing to. So that old school rivalry may sit in our hearts, but young people don't know diddly squat about it. So what they see is is all they know. So if a young person is tuning in to see the Dodgers Padres and they're seeing the benches clear, that's what gets the headlines. And we need to embrace it and honestly just admit that we love this stuff.
Rich Davis
Yeah. This weekend, by the way, you know, I'm always going to bring it back to the Mets. When you think Mets, they're tied right now, same exact record as the Phillies and they have a three game set that starts today. Do you look at the Mets Phillies as a rivalry or do you think Mets Braves or do you think Braves Phillies? Like how do you look at it?
Steve Covino
Because I look at it like again, almost the opposite of what Jason said. But I love his point because it makes you think. I think there's room for plenty. Do you have one person you hate or do you have multiple.
Rich Davis
So let's say the Orioles you just.
Steve Covino
Hate a little more.
Rich Davis
So let's say the Orioles are good for five years, five, six years, and the Yankees and Orioles are battling. Do the Orioles sort of step in if the socks are stinking at that time?
Steve Covino
Yes, I think it goes through cycles. It goes. Goes through phases. I'm trying to think of your Mets, though. Who's the biggest one? Because I. I would say Mets. I'd say Mets, Phillies, believe it or not. I don't know why that's. That's the one. I think of Danny as an LA guy.
Rich Davis
Do you think Mets, Phillies, or do you think Braves?
Danny G
I has a tough one.
Rich Davis
I.
Danny G
Since I didn't grow up with those rivalries or rivalry, I'm not sure. But as far as the west coast goes, as far as what J. Stu is saying, I kind of agree that the Padres would like to be the Giants. They'd like to take their place as the Dodgers, no doubt. Let me ask you about this all started with those old white rappers Covino likes to joke about. Remember what was their rap that they were doing on Morning Show?
Steve Covino
Those lame Os on social media? They were trying to hype up the Padres. Yeah.
Danny G
And then there were parades through the streets because they made it to the playoffs, remember? And then it's been this heated thing, especially on the loose.
Steve Covino
What's up, goose? That's what's it.
Danny G
Yeah.
Steve Covino
Social media does help build those rivalries and fan bases and people love it, man.
Danny G
That. And I think that's the core of the argument. To count as a rivalry, does it have to go back X amount of.
Rich Davis
Years and, and ask yourself this. Think of all your teams and all your sports. Danny, you're a big Raiders fan. Is it Chiefs.
Danny G
In our division?
Rich Davis
Yes, Mike. All right, I'm a Niners fan. Is it. Am I gonna always be like, yo, damn buyer, your Seahawks, my Niners? Or do you say Niners, Cowboys? Because of the history. Like, I. I just feel like Kavino's making the point that it could change.
Steve Covino
It could change because generations change, teams change divisions. Sometimes. Sometimes that team's no longer in the division. How does that even matter?
Rich Davis
Then again, I feel like the Bears, packers, that's always going to be right.
Steve Covino
I mean, like, it's a classic.
Rich Davis
Cardinals, Cubs will always be a rivalry. Red Sox, Yankees. But I think there's some that pop up once in a while because of some bad blood. And I know the Giants are playing great baseball, but right now, even as a guy that doesn't care about the no West. I am glued to Dodgers, Padres, Dodgers, Padres.
Steve Covino
But keep in mind that the Giants just got that Devers move. Posey's talking a lot of smack. Devers is going to bring a lot more action to that rivalry. So, look, I think there's room for plenty of them. Your calls, your thoughts. And on a side note, on a side note, by the way, my dad is here. Let's give it up to Big Steve, everybody. Let's give it up to my parents. My parents are at this party stadium.
Danny G
Swim, kissing ass in Vegas.
Steve Covino
I know. I gotta say, it is like a weird dream to see your parents poolside in Vegas. There's like, butt cheeks out and my parents hanging out. It's so weird.
Rich Davis
What's hanging out more, your parents or butt cheeks?
Steve Covino
Well, you know what it's like, people watching in Vegas, right? And then you see that and you see your family. It's sort of a weird contrast, you know? But, hey, we're here celebrating, and we're happy to be here with you. But the question at hand is when Dave Roberts puts in a rookie pitcher, right? Because Danny G. And I were sort of debating this. His whole thing is like, you think I'm gonna have him throw a Tattis?
Danny G
Yeah.
Steve Covino
I'm saying yes. I think sometimes a manager says, hey, rookie, you want to earn your place on this team? You want to show us that you belong. You wanna win over some.
Danny G
You see his reaction, though, when he hit Tatis?
Steve Covino
Maybe that's good acting. You want to win over. You want to win over your teammates. Hit the guy. And it's almost like a Johnny Lawrence crease sort of things like. What do you mean, hit the guy? Like, take him out? I think that's intentional. I think you tell the young player to earn his place on the team by hitting the star. These are old school baseball. And why.
Danny G
Why not hit Machado then?
Steve Covino
Because I think if you want to show that you belong and you got your team's back as the young guy, it's like being initiated in a gang. Like, you got to prove yourself. And I think by hitting Tatis, it was intentional.
Rich Davis
I'm going to take you back.
Steve Covino
That's why I love the drama.
Rich Davis
I'm going to take you back to the 90s when Robin Ventura was told by his team, if Nolan Ryan hits you, you charge. And remember, Nolan Ryan was ready. Robin Ventura has said since, like, I reluctantly, I did not want to charge and fight Nolan Ryan, but to earn the respect at the time, Nolan Ryan was, you know, 40 years old and, you know, Robin Vetura was a young dude in baseball, but he had to do it.
Steve Covino
All right, so your thoughts. Can new rivalries surpass the classics? Is there room for both says, hey, just one. You got to have one hated enemy. And do you think that was an intentional bean ball yesterday to send a message? I really believe the more I think about it, it was. And Dave Roberts, of course, is going to say, why would I do that? And when we see these highlights, we're here in Vegas, too, schmoozing and boozing. When you see these things happening, it's so great for sports. And that's why the WNBA needs to also just lean into that every chance.
Rich Davis
We talked about the other day.
Steve Covino
I know it's ugly and it's sportsmanship, but it's great.
Rich Davis
Every Caitlin Clark, you know, I poke or push to the floor is just good for the wnba.
Danny G
I was at LAX at my terminal and the center bar, had the Dodgers game on a couple of screens. And you should have seen all of the LA Dodgers fans going nuts.
Rich Davis
Yeah, no doubt during this game.
Danny G
It was crazy.
Rich Davis
It's a great rivalry.
Steve Covino
On a side note, seriously, I just got to piggyback with Danny G. Said there's nothing more exciting than when the bench is clear. I know. It's like 90% of the time is corny and it ends up with just a little smack talk. Like, oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Rich Davis
Have you seen, have you seen some of the fan footage from, like the first few rows? Yeah, yeah.
Steve Covino
But dude, when you see people come running off, you're like, oh. Again, most of the time it's anticlimactic, but it still gets the adrenaline.
Rich Davis
Dave Roberts was saying, I'm going to F you up in the tunnels. Yeah, Dave Roberts was. He wanted to fight last night.
Steve Covino
So your thoughts on rivalries? Start thinking about it. Fox Sports Radio Nation, you heard all angles here. What about the growing Dodgers, Padres, the growing OKC Pacers rivalry? What are your thoughts on these things? And we're going to play a game, too, so start getting ready. It's a little twist. You know how we do Chipotle worker or WNBA player?
Rich Davis
It's a fun one.
Steve Covino
We're putting a little twist on that today. Just our way of bringing the fun and party from Vegas to you. We want to give you some giveaways because we're giving away a lot of stuff here on site. But everybody hanging out in their car at work getting ready for the weekend. Juneteenth weekend, the first official weekend of the summer. This is our kickoff. We want to give away Swiggy and some prizes. So stick around. We'll tell you when to call if you want to play our new game today.
Rich Davis
I don't know what's growing more, the Padres Dodgers rivalry or the line of people wanting to take a photo with your dad.
Steve Covino
Oh my God.
Rich Davis
Have you seen all. Everyone wants to take a selfie with Big Steve.
Steve Covino
It's hilarious. Yeah, it's so weird, dude.
Rich Davis
Well, hey, we're in Vegas if you're in the area. Hey, I know Vegas is one of our big affiliates. Hey, we're at Circa pool party. Let them know you're here for us. We get there's like hundreds of people hanging out by the broadcast booth, so come hang.
Steve Covino
Oh, and if you could just make it tonight, we'll be rooftop tonight. So yeah, we're here all weekend and if not this time, next time. But I want to hear from you guys, your thoughts on rivalries. We'll get ready for this game. KD's in the news and I got a bone to pick with Rich. I have a rivalry with Rich that I want to talk about and address.
Rich Davis
This guy's heads up his ass.
Steve Covino
All right, so why we'll do that, but we are live. Yes, Vegas, let's hear you. Let's hear it from my dad who's here and my mom. Look at, she's hugging men. Look at that. My mom. Hey guys. Nem Hart with five to shoot can't clear the shot up top. Siakam beats the shot clock and delivers a three. Siakam in shot ready position. Just waiting to receive that pass. Just beautiful execution.
Steve Covino
Lets it go.
Rich Davis
Well, you can hardly but ask for a better performance. Performance. Particularly given the fact that if you didn't play well, your season would have ended. MJB this team, just in case you didn't know, NBA Finals game seven and.
Steve Covino
They still have an opportunity to win a championship. How cool is that?
Rich Davis
Well, as Danny G and Dan Byer said yesterday, hey, we're going to get a Game 7 on Sunday. That's courtesy of the Pacers radio network. And that's our tyrack play of the day from 40 years our friends at Tire Rack have been helping customers find the right tires for how, what and where they drive ship fast and free. Backed by free road hazard protection, convenient mobile tire installation options. Tire rack.com the way tire buying should be.
Steve Covino
Halliburton lifted the spirits, set the tone and Pacers dominated. We have a game seven and we reap all the benefits.
Rich Davis
You know, Halliburton, you know, grabbing the old huevos and saying I'm, I'm playing. Even though they were able to use him in a limited way, he looked good though. It just showed that he was in it to win it. And I think that message alone sent, sent the message to the team and everyone that like the Pacers are not, they're not just cr. You're not, you know, like not laying down, not letting this get away from them.
Steve Covino
And you know what, we have a lot of people on hold still.
Rich Davis
Rich, let's do it.
Steve Covino
Let's get J. Stew back on the phone. Skies 87799 on Fox. Tony in Virginia, Jesse in Indiana, Jane Kentucky. Let's do it. Let's get to the phone calls now. The most interactive show on radio. Live from Vegas. Do these new rivalries get you pumped up? Can they surpass the old ones? What do you think?
Rich Davis
What's up? Tony in Virginia. How are you, bud?
Steve Covino
Hey, I'm well again. Thank you fellas. Sometimes the best rivalries are between cities.
Danny G
I was born and raised in Baltimore.
Steve Covino
And the Orioles lost to the Pirates twice in the World Series. The Steelers knocked out the Colts twice in the 70s. That carried on to the Ravens and Steelers and I still think Ravens, Steelers, the best rivalry in the NFL.
Rich Davis
That's a damn good rivalry. So yeah, sometimes it is just the city and you end up hating a city for that reason.
Steve Covino
Yeah, for. I love that. I do. I look, I don't like the ugly side of it when you're just a fan trying to go to a game, but when the teams don't like each other and, you know, you don't have.
Ryan Seacrest
I love it.
Rich Davis
We live in LA now. I grew up in New York. Everything about Philadelphia is hateable to most.
Steve Covino
Right? Right.
Rich Davis
I mean, if you're a New Yorker, you're like all the Eagles. Oh, the Phillies off the Flyers. Oh, the Sixers. Like, everything about Philadelphia to a New Yorker stinks. And that's the best part about it. Let's go to Jesse in Indiana. Jesse, you got to be fired up, man. You get a Game 7 on Sunday night.
Steve Covino
Oh, yeah.
Rich Davis
It's great to be here in Indiana. And mine kind of goes with the pace because I got two for you once. The Pacers, it's a new one, though.
Steve Covino
We've seen it two years in a row. Pacers mix.
Rich Davis
I mean, name. I mean, just the amount of aggression you see between each of those teams as they're going to try and play either in the Finals, like, this year, or to play this.
Steve Covino
Go and play the Celtics. You know, it's a good point. It's a double doozy because he kept Halliburton and the Pacers kept that Pacers Knicks rivalry.
Rich Davis
And I think by Halliburton. By Halliburton. Paying tribute to Reggie Miller doing the choke thing.
Steve Covino
It was so hateful.
Rich Davis
It was a way of doubling down on, like, hey, remember our rivalry? It's back.
Steve Covino
Remember that luckiest shot we've ever seen of all time? Yeah, I think. Yeah, they're doing a great job of just stirring it up. Great call, man. Thank you, guys for hanging out with us. We'll take more phone calls. 87799 on Fox. Now, we sort of referenced it before. We're going to give away prizes. We're gonna play some games. But I have a lame question to ask. Do you have to coordinate with your buds when you're going to parties or events?
Rich Davis
Yeah, because I wore a black tank top thinking, what's the chances of Kavina wearing a black shirt? He's wearing a black sleeveless shirt I'm wearing. He looks like we're in a. Like, a music group.
Steve Covino
But it happens so often and so many times that it has to be addressed, like, as buds and boys, do you have to. It sounds like it's a girl thing or a woman thing, but do buddies have to coordinate these things to not look like fools. We look like two fools right now. We're in the same outfit.
Rich Davis
No, you guys are fine.
Danny G
No, it's not okay. You two look like you're part of the some show. Yeah, it looks like being advertised here.
Steve Covino
Because it looks like we coordinated that and that's not it at all.
Danny G
Like, like you're about to dance on Sprocket.
Rich Davis
We did, we did a speaking engagement for iHeart in Chicago. We both showed up with a black T shirt and like a green like jacket.
Steve Covino
Same exact thing.
Rich Davis
I look, I looked at like what are we doing? Company man.
Steve Covino
All right, well, your thoughts, let us know. Plus we got games to play and we talk NFL live from Vegas. Live from from circa downtown is Cabino and rich. More next.

Nice. Is that true pitching like Fernando Valens?
Rich Davis
Yes, exactly.
Steve Covino
I love that. So tomorrow, if you follow us on Patreon too, we're doing a very special Saturday broadcast from Atomic Golf and another party here at Circa after that. What you need to watch this weekend, the first official weekend summer weekend extravaganza. Now we got to talk a little NFL too.
Rich Davis
Now. Yahoo Sports, this is great. Put out their top 10 quarterbacks headed into the 2025 season. Now listen, Covino and I, before we worked mostly in sports. Now we used to work for Maxim. Remember magazines back in the day? Remember magazines, Print media?
Steve Covino
What are those?
Rich Davis
And I remember every year they would come out with like, the maxim Hot 100. And you make a list a lot of times just to upset people and get them talking.
Steve Covino
But here's the thing. You don't want it to seem so obvious, right? Like there's a. There's an art form to it. But you're right. Lists are created to get people to speculate, to get people to talk so it can go viral.
Rich Davis
I remember you and I.
Steve Covino
Feels a little obvious, you and I.
Rich Davis
Back in the 2000s, it would be like, and the number one girl, Lindsay Lowe. And you're like, more than Megan Fox. Like, you know, you would debate any list that's put out, but Yahoo puts out the top 10 quarterbacks, and all that does is get people to immediately say who doesn't belong and who did they screw over?
Steve Covino
Charles McDonald had a farm.
Rich Davis
E I E I O. Yeah.
Steve Covino
He also caused a lot of controversy, has people apparently raging, raging, raging about this list. So I'm going to count it down again. Charles McDonald's top 10 quarterbacks entering the 2025 season, according to Yahoo Sports.
Rich Davis
I think you shouldn't do it. Spider Harrison, Seacrest style. I think you should start at number one, because I think 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is sort of where it's like, okay, I get it.
Steve Covino
Okay, fair.
Rich Davis
And I think the bottom is where it's like, whoa.
Steve Covino
All right. So in at number one, you really can't debate it. Patrick Mahomes.
Rich Davis
Better believe it.
Steve Covino
No surprise. I'm honored. But again, it's obvious, of course, Number one with the fans. Number one in life.
Rich Davis
Number one. So, I mean, he's arguably the. The biggest winner of this generation.
Steve Covino
I'd like to thank my parents. Not so much my father, but.
Rich Davis
Or your brother.
Steve Covino
Or my brother, but thank you for the honor. And yeah, number one.
Rich Davis
So Mahomes obvious.
Steve Covino
Number two, Lamar Jackson.
Rich Davis
And you know what?
Steve Covino
Can't debate it.
Rich Davis
It's. You could say Josh Allen, but he's right there at number three. So you interchange him. Some would say Allen, some would say Joe Burrow.
Steve Covino
Number four. Again, really can't debate that either.
Rich Davis
I think now is where it starts to be like, huh?
Steve Covino
It's a good one. But I don't. I wouldn't put him above anyone else on the top three.
Rich Davis
Danny G. Would you also agree the top four sort of set in Mahomes, Jackson, Allen, Burrow. Like, it would be hard to argue. Not those four.
Danny G
Yeah, people would maybe interchange Those four. But those should be the four.
Steve Covino
Keep in mind, too, this is entering the season, right? Yeah.
Rich Davis
Some might totally change that order, but I think I hate the. The Mount Rushmore term. But right now, you would say Mahomes, Jackson, Allen, Burrow, in whatever order you choose. Those are your four.
Danny G
And because of last season, I would have Jalen Hurts at five, maybe at four.
Steve Covino
Well, Herbert is at number five. Justin Herbert at five.
Rich Davis
Huh.
Steve Covino
Huh. Now, now here comes the huh.
Rich Davis
Okay, well, the huh is because he hasn't won a meaningful game. And last year in a meaningful game, I believe it was like, no tutties, five picks. I'm. I'm just guessing it was something like.
Steve Covino
Chargers made any money moves? Nothing that I can really think about. I mean, stands out.
Rich Davis
Herbert. I think Herbert's one of those guys that he's been in the league long enough now where the whole, like, yo, he's gonna be great. It better start happening.
Steve Covino
Okay.
Rich Davis
Number six, Matt Stafford, won a Super Bowl. He's, you know, older, but getting long.
Steve Covino
In the tooth, as old people say. But really can't argue with that much.
Rich Davis
Getting long in the truth.
Steve Covino
Number seven, Dak Prescott, who recently said that he has to win. He needs to win. His existence depends on it. Smith, your boy, Geno. Geno Smith, number eight.
Rich Davis
Are you out of your mind?
Danny G
Yeah, he's with Dak, in my opinion. Where they're outside the top 10 looking in.
Steve Covino
So the Raiders, Geno Smith, number eight again, new team, 2025. But hey, do I downplay how good he is? Nah, he's good. But number eight, Love. Number nine, Green Bay Packers.
Rich Davis
I feel like Love's a top 10.
Steve Covino
And C.J. stroud, great young quarterback in at number 10. That's the top 10 NFL quarterbacks entering the 2025 season, again, according to Charles McDonald, his farm, and everybody at Yahoo.
Rich Davis
All right, so let's all agree.
Steve Covino
Love.
Rich Davis
Is a top 10. You could say C.J. stroud's the top 10. Yeah, I think that the argument is. And you're going to put Herbert in the top 10 just based on still the potential, even though, like, eventually the potential's gotta calculate it.
Steve Covino
I understand. I'm just saying this for conversation's sake. I can't say that. I don't understand. But who won the super bowl last year? Because that's where everyone's going to go to.
Danny G
Would you have CJ Stroud over Jaden Daniels?
Rich Davis
I. I had Jaden. I. Here's who I think. Here's what you got to do. You got to start Going through.
Steve Covino
And would you have Geno Smith over like.
Rich Davis
Jalen hurts. All right, so this is what you do.
Steve Covino
You could, you could debate his skill level or what he brings to a team, but the bottom line is he won and he wins.
Rich Davis
You got to go through to the divisions. I haven't been drinking. You have to go through the divisions and allegedly and start really analyzing like, all right, who, who sort of got left out here and blaringly go to the NFC East. And you say Jalen Hurst, Hertz and Jaden Daniels.
Steve Covino
Right?
Rich Davis
Yeah, right.
Danny G
They both should.
Rich Davis
So Hertz and Daniels on the list. Take away Dak and Geno and put in Hertz and Daniels.
Steve Covino
Right. And by the way, that's no disrespect. It's just how do you leave them off?
Rich Davis
Dak, Gino, goodbye. Hello, Hertz and Daniels. And I'm going to give you one more. I say see you later. Matthew Stafford. Hello. Brock Purdy.
Steve Covino
Oh, that's a controversial one. Did you just.
Rich Davis
Did you get me?
Steve Covino
No. Well, I mean, keep in mind, if you're new to Fox Sports Radio, Cavino and Rich. I don't blame you for standing up for your guy. Rich is a die hard 49ers guy and does his record and do his numbers prove it. Yes.
Danny G
He's on the boat with Dak and Gino Smith.
Steve Covino
Yeah. Like I don't know.
Danny G
Let's be honest.
Rich Davis
You put Aaron Rodgers on this list?
Danny G
No.
Rich Davis
Okay.
Steve Covino
Hey, you know what? It's interesting that we live in a time now where he's still playing and not on this list. Right.
Rich Davis
So, all right, so look at the other quarterbacks. You're. You're not going to go. Anthony Richardson, too young. Uncle unproven. I'm thinking of other. Just go through the divisions. Trevor Lawrence is, you know, under delivered so far. Yeah.
Steve Covino
Hasn't been the guy that he was supposed to be.
Rich Davis
I'm shocked that they put Gino on this list. You know, you start going division, division. All right, Minnesota, J.J. mcCarthy. And then you had. Before he went, before he got traded. You weren't going to put. Trying to think of who you would. Who you're leaving out here. No, I think it's not gonna put Darnold on this.
Steve Covino
So people missing are Jaden Daniels and Hertz and, and Brock Purdy and says Brock Purdy, I'm not gonna hate on you.
Rich Davis
Brock Purdy's been to a Super bowl, an NFC champion.
Steve Covino
I would say that's the most debatable.
Danny G
Niners add weapons for him because this is also A projection.
Steve Covino
That's exactly it.
Rich Davis
The 49ers are going to win 13 games this year. They have the weakest ass schedule you've ever seen.
Steve Covino
And they're gonna go.
Rich Davis
And they're gonna go 12 and 5 minimum. Because they play bottom feeders. They have the easiest percentage schedule in like a decade. So I.
Danny G
But it's not because Brock Purdy's gonna put the whole team on his back.
Rich Davis
You paid him. Like, he's capable of maybe doing it.
Steve Covino
We set this up explaining how lists work. And we know from experience, dude, they're.
Rich Davis
Designed to make everyone argue.
Steve Covino
Right? So is this clearly designed. Is this so obviously designed to get us to speculate and debate and scratch our noggins? Like, this guy can't be serious. Or do you buy into it? Do you believe that Jaylen Hurts is in the top 10? Or Jaden Daniels, do you believe that Brock Pie shouldn't be on the list? Let's chop it up. We're live from Vegas, bringing the party to you. 87799 on Fox. J. Stu, if you have thoughts on it, you know, chime in. Let's get interactive.
Rich Davis
Let me. Let me hit you up.
Steve Covino
Hey, dude, we have a whole slew of people here partying. Let's get some drunken opinions. Yeah. Let's get the drunkards of Las Vegas.
Rich Davis
Why don't you throw the mic in the pool? Yeah, let me go through the NFC first real quick just to go through it. All right. Jalen Hurts, we said, you know, should be on this. Jaden Daniels. Yes, I should be.
Steve Covino
I mean, he won the Super Bowl.
Rich Davis
Dak. Shouldn't the Giants not factor Jared Goff? No one brought him up.
Steve Covino
That's an interesting one. I like that one. Better than Brock Purdy, maybe. And what he meant to Detroit. Yeah.
Rich Davis
Minnesota. We're not going there. Jordan Love should be on it. Caleb Williams still has work to do. Maybe in a year from now he's on the list. But right now, we agreed, not top 10 yet for. For Caleb Williams.
Steve Covino
Not there yet right now, but, you know, fun and still.
Rich Davis
I love. I love Baker. Not on the list. Michael Penix Jr love him. Not on the list.
Steve Covino
I love Baker, but. Yeah, he. He doesn't belong on the list.
Danny G
I think he's probably just outside.
Steve Covino
Yeah, he's just outside the top 10.
Rich Davis
Kyler Murray, you know, he's middle of the pack. You know, he's eight team. Yeah. So, I mean, I. I think the blaring emissions are Herz Daniels, and you could say Goff or Purdy. I'm shocked. That and Danny, no disrespect, Gino Smith is not a top 10 quarterback.
Steve Covino
You think he is on his ability to throw on the run and how he just.
Danny G
Well, I think McDonald is projecting obviously here for what he thinks might happen with the Raiders 5. Now if what we know about Geno Smith comes true next this coming season, he's a great play action quarterback. If Ashton Genti lives up to all the hype, it's going to give Geno Smith a lot of opportunities. That doesn't make him a top 10. But he could, he could do a lot better than what some people are thinking just right off.
Steve Covino
And keep in mind Danny G's the resident Raiders fan. Although I do agree, but I did.
Danny G
Say right off the the bat I don't see him as a top 10 quarterback.
Rich Davis
If it's a homer conversation, let's go to Prefet in the studio. You're a Lions guy in your mind is like, come on dude, Goff's top 10. Or are you thinking no he's not.
Jay Stu
This is a really fascinating one because I think the reputation of Goff has been, well, it's about the offensive line giving him help and the weapons. But seeing him close, I, I think I can make the argument for him. But the guy I want to make an argument for isn't. Nobody's mentioned him yet. The guy I'm going to go to bat for is Baker Mayfield field. He's top 10 in my mind.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Jay Stu
I don't know there's anyone who's better in the fourth quarter than him.
Steve Covino
We all like him. I like how he gets the team behind him. His, his toughness, his grittiness, how he plays to win. Just seems to never give up. I love everything about the guy and what he means to the team. But you know what's interesting? I don't know who I would take off for him. Love. Okay. Hey. And I, I can't really argue that Love has had, I like Mayfield.
Jay Stu
Love has had some real high points. I know the advanced stats like him. But he has made every time he's been in a big position. He has made some back breakingly awful throws that just stick with you no matter what.
Steve Covino
And this, the lasting image I have of Baker Mayfield is him like carrying four players on his back like just barreling people over. You remember that fight? Yes.
Danny G
In the comments of this Yahoo Sports article. It's funny because the two quarterbacks that most of the football fans are arguing for in there are Baker Mayfield and of Course, the Eagles.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
Champion.
Steve Covino
So good for Baker.
Danny G
Jalen Hurts should be up at 5, I think, and Baker Mayfield should be at 10 at the very least.
Rich Davis
You know, it's an interesting thought, guys, is that I'm going to compare it to when I make the lineup for my kids baseball team. There's 12 kids. I don't want to bat any kid. 12th, because that just sort of stinks, right? Like, you don't want to, hey, a little, you know, little Dylan, you're betting 11th, and hey, a little Easton, you're betting 12th. But someone's at the bottom. There's 32 NFL teams. There's a bottom, essentially. If you want to break it into top 10, middle 10, bottom 10. If we're trying to make, you know, an argument for everyone, then who's bottom 10?
Jay Stu
Well, I mean, whoever's starting for the Browns is absolutely bottom 10.
Steve Covino
Tommy DeVito.
Rich Davis
I'm saying gutless. I know, starting, but are you saying, like, is Russell Wilson bottom 10 until they go Jackson Dart? Like, someone's got to be bottom 10?
Danny G
Yeah. Well, a lot of the youngsters like J.J. mcCarthy, until we find out who.
Rich Davis
He is in the NFL, Tyler Murray's bottom 10.
Steve Covino
And it's not all their fault either. They. A lot of these teams are just bunk all around.
Rich Davis
So are you saying a Michael Penck Jr. Right now is bottom 10?
Danny G
And by the way, the other day I saw a different outlet put Bo nicks at number 10.
Rich Davis
Dude. Yeah.
Danny G
Nobody's even, can I tell you?
Rich Davis
So you got to really think we're naming all these people someone's bottom 10. We're saying top 10. We're making an argument for these guys.
Steve Covino
It.
Rich Davis
It's the reality of it, right? It's like if you go to a pageant and there's 50 smoking hot girls, someone's the 50 hot, the 50th hottest. Even though you're like, how is that possible? They're all hot. These are all NFL quarterbacks, but someone's the stinkiest of the guy making $40 million. And you wonder who is that? Who's in the bottom tier? Because not all these guys are top 10.
Jay Stu
The problem is, for a lot of it, it's just teams that have to be bottom tier. Because in the middle of the season, like, if it is the Browns, I'd like to say Joe Flacco, but I don't know if Joe Flacco will be the starter after too long, then suddenly it's like we just have three different names that can all be in that same Bottom tier slot. It's teams who are in the bottom 10. Not a single quarterback because they don't have a quarterback.
Rich Davis
What about like Justin Fields for the jets? Is he bottom 10 just by default?
Steve Covino
By default, I think.
Jay Stu
I think he is, yes.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Especially again, just because these are all guys that at one point in their life with the. With the number one dude.
Steve Covino
Yeah, look, we're not hating him. It's. It's who they play for. It's where they're at right now. Would we have said the same? Would anyone fought for Baker Mayfield a few years ago? No. He grew to that position. So props to him. Jalen Hurts not on the list. And Charles McDonald gets exactly what he wanted out of this list. We're talking about it. Yahoo Sports. Good for you. Hey, what do you think about their top 10 quarterbacks entering? That's the key Danny G. Pointed out a few times entering the 2025 season.
Rich Davis
You know, I'm intrigued to see what our buddy J. Stu says, because J. Stu pulls for the Chargers and his boys there. His boys on the list. Are you a Justin Herbert believer? J. Stu, is he a top 10 guy?
Jay Stu
Oh, absolutely. Herbert's a top 10 guy. But who wrote this list? Charles McDonald? It's more like Charles McDon't know. Quarterbacks don't know.
Steve Covino
I think.
Jay Stu
I think the Geno Smith thing is disqualifying. As soon as I saw that, I had to disregard the list.
Steve Covino
I'm sorry, is that the glaring, like, obvious one?
Danny G
No, I agree with you. I said from the jump, he is not a top 10 quarterback. Not. Not right now. Maybe at the end of the 2025 season, you could argue he belongs up a little higher. But I mean, I saw a list a few days ago where somebody put him 28. So at one list says 28, one list says what, 8, 10.
Steve Covino
Yeah. And for reference, Herbert is number five according to the list.
Rich Davis
Again, everybody's gonna have a different. I don't need to give the analogies, but someone's got to be on the bottom. But you were getting close to the MLB All Star game, which I'm hoping we're at. Is it. Isn't it funny when you see the best guy on your team batting 8th on the all star team, you're like, huh?
Steve Covino
Wow.
Rich Davis
Okay. Because someone has to bat there. Someone is your bottom tier quarterback. And it just shows that even in the summer, we're sitting poolside, it's June and we're talking about the NFL because the NFL still, there could be NBA playoffs there could be Ohtani and Tatis gets paid.
Steve Covino
No matter you heard the owner of this casino say, nothing gets the crowd more fired up. It's not March Madness. It's not a boxing event. It's not ufc. It's still the NFL and the Super super bowl and people love talking about it. So your thoughts at Covino and Rich and we're going to give away prizes poolside. But guess what? If you're at home, if you're in your car, you're listening to the podcast. We're giving a chance for you to win here. We're going to play a game. It's Chipotle worker or WNBA player. You just have to tell us who. It's our way of getting to know more WNBA players, but we're putting a little twist to it. Okay, a little Friday twist to the game and we'll do that next. Plus, we still got weekend hobnobbing and more.
