We're going to talk about baseball a little bit. I mean, like I said, we do have 12 games left and I'm calling out your dude, Michael K. I know you love Michael K. My dad loves.

Michael K. He's great. But he has a reputation of being a little pompous, which is why I like him. Yeah, but I like that attitude. He doesn't really have that much attitude when he's calling Yankees games. But when he's doing his radio show, he really unleashes.

[Rich]

But he said something about celebrations and it's like, oh, Michael K, you're so off. So I'm Calling out your dude, Michael Kate. But we got to start with Tom Brady. And of course, last night, one good game, one bad one. Is there anything else you really need to say? I think you need to say the Madison Beer effect. Justin Herbert's two zero.

[Covino]

No, no. I think you need to start with the Buccaneers and say that Baker Mayfield was always good. You made this point on our Patreon today because I was saying what a dog he is. Baker Mayfield's a dog. As the meme. That meme goes just became one. He was always good, and he got.

[Rich]

Dissed by Cleveland, as the meme goes. He was only guilty of one thing, being associated with the Browns, and he took that bunk organization and took them deep into the playoffs.

[Covino]

But you weren't sure where it was going to go. When his head didn't seem to be all in football and he was doing commercials and everything else. I always felt maybe because he was associated with Cleveland, that he could have went down the Johnny Manziel path of greatness. And that's no knock on Johnny Manziel. I actually think he's a cool dude, too, and he turned his life around. I'm happy for him. But to see Baker Mayfield just take the ball and run with it, pun intended. Pun absolutely intended. And carry that team on his back when they need him, it's just impressive to watch. He's like the current. I don't want to say like Doug Flutie of the league, but he just plays to win. He's not the best at anything, but you know that he's going to give you his all.

[Rich]

Yes. The heart he has.

[Covino]

He plays with that noticeable energy and heart that a guy like. I mean, who comes to mind for you? I don't know. Doug Flutie came.

[Rich]

That's a good one. But I think, you know how they always do those things, like construct the best baseball player, and it's like the swag of Tatis, the arm of. You know. So if you were to construct the best quarterback. I feel like the heart of Baker Mayfield. I'm picking.

[Covino]

You know, I wouldn't argue that. You've seen some really impressive.

[Rich]

You're not going to pick his arm, you're not going to pick his legs. You're not going to, you know, but.

[Covino]

His determination and his ability to keep his legs moving and his heart is there. And it was a nice come from behind win over the Texans yesterday. Props to him. And he showed that sigh of relief when he hit the podium last night. Yes. He did it. What's up, Danny J.

[Danny G]

Two workman like quarterbacks that remind me of that Rich, your boy Steve Young back in the day when we were kids, and also Rich Gannon. They would, like, will their team down the field.

[Covino]

Yeah, he plays with a lot of will and determination, and it's just fun to watch as a fan, so. So props to the Buccaneers, props to his career.

[Rich]

And where.

[Covino]

Where it's been did we need.

[Rich]

Because I don't. I. I feel like we did, but didn't. Did we need that one Baker Mayfield Rams game to remind ourselves, oh, he deserves another shot? Remember that one Rams game?

[Covino]

Yeah.

[Rich]

Where it's like, oh, yeah, yeah, Baker against the Raiders. But yeah, yeah, they should have seen.

[Danny G]

That and been like, let's. Let's sign him when he's a free agent.

[Rich]

But you know, sometimes you need a reminder, right. In a relationship, at a job where you. You need to remind people of your value. And I think Baker Mayfield took that opportunity. That one game that really didn't mean much on the schedule, but that one game where it's like, yo, he came back and won that game and showed some grit and heart. That one Rams game, I think gave everyone the reminder that, yeah, Baker Mayfield got a raw deal. And Cleveland has to feel like a bunch of ass clowns knowing that they gave up on this guy to go after Deshaun Watson, who at the time was the, quote, hotter chick.

[Covino]

Exactly.

[Rich]

And then that didn't work out, and now you're like, oh, man, what do we hoping with Joe Flacco or Shador or this guy? It's.

[Covino]

It's good to remind people who's in charge. That's why we've always said, rich, when the relationships on the rocks, you gotta double up just to remind them. Mayfield 215 yards, two tuddies. The Buccaneers win 2019. And then, honestly, it felt like such a flat ass game. And nothing, nothing I hate more than a flat ass. Everything about that game last night, you could say, good defense, Danny G. I know you got to give credit. It was 29. And.

[Danny G]

And they kept giving the ball back, the defense to Gino to give him another opportunity to come back. At the end of the game, I.

[Covino]

Was trying to watch and concentrate, and I kept looking at my phone and scrolling and I was just bored by that game. Hoping, because I like Geno Smith, hoping your Raiders turned it around, hoping for you too. But again, just sloppy play. It's not all on Geno. I think we agree on that. He was scrambling around, running for his life.

[Danny G]

Yeah.

[Covino]

So the O line is off. But three picks, Chargers win 29 in a boring later.

[Danny G]

Got to give a lot of credit to that Chargers defense. There was a reason he was holding on to the ball as long as he was. Nobody was open. And even though the offensive line wasn't playing the way they're capable of, he just looked like it. Reminded me of a Derek Carr game, to be honest with you.

[Covino]

Yeah. That must have drove you, you and Ryan crazy. Like you know anything.

[Danny G]

You know, he's got talent, but he just was making bad decisions. He was throwing into double and triple coverage sometimes.

[Covino]

Oh, did you see his body language after that?

[Danny G]

Yeah.

He was sitting there like, you know, that's what a face looks like after three picks, like he was Les Miserables.

[Rich]

But, hey, Kavino, you could. You could watch. You could, like, follow my team.

No, Absolutely. Yeah. You know what? Go get him next year. That's what I'm looking toward. But I was very Bills heavy.

You like the girl that got voted off? You like the girl that got voted off the Bachelor in week two. And then when they have the reunion, everyone's like, who's that in this Guillotine League?

[Covino]

You're right. You're right. I'm that guy. I don't even remember that guy.

Wait, he was on this season.

I remember. There's no moves I could have made in the first week and Khalil Shakir did nothing. Josh Allen had an average game like I just did nothing thing that week.

Alan killed you. Yes, because of his lack of production. Now the Bills don't care. They got the easy win and James Cook at a huge game. But that's what happens. He was a high pick of Cavino's as well.

[Rich]

Yeah, Josh Kavino was going to live and die off of Josh Allen.

[Dan Beyer]

Yeah, and you had AJ Brown as well who is stunk the first two weeks.

[Covino]

I thought I was set to be honest for a minute.

[Rich]

You thought you would at least to be honest in these type of things. And I am comparing it to something as corny as the Bachelor or some type of an elimination game. You always assume all right, I'll make it to the middle at least. And you had some big name players.

[Covino]

So no Jimmy Eat World for me.

[Rich]

Yeah, you're not in the middle. No Marin Morris, nothing.

Everyone's Hyped. Do you think by like week four, you'd be like, oh, two games. Would we want a double doozy every Monday?

I don't think so. Especially if you wound up having two stinkers back to back.

Yeah.

And then you got to do with short weeks. And I know the players would not want that, but I just, you know.

[Covino]

Rich, I'm not opposed to it, but I don't think anybody needs it, right?

[Rich]

Oh, of course. We don't need anything. We don't need Friday occasional games. We don't need international games.

[Covino]

A Monday Night Football game.

[Dan Beyer]

I don't know if you might, because I think it's the east coast and central time zone. They don't want to stay up late and watch the games. But here's my only thing that I would say back to them is if you took, let's just say you took Buccaneers and Texans, you just put them at one o' clock Eastern time on Sunday. How many people are actually seeing that game when there are seven other games going on?

[Covino]

Right.

[Dan Beyer]

So it's the point of you're getting an extra game. It's fine if you don't want to watch it. Maybe you wouldn't have watched it at one o', clock, but it's not like this awful thing where you're being deprived of football because it's so late. You probably wouldn't have been watching that game anyway.

[Rich]

It's one less game to decide does it make my four screen tv.

[Dan Beyer]

And I think that there are very few people that have the Sunday ticket or the ability to put up four screens for as much as we see it on social media. I think more of the average person just has their living room TV or monitor and how they're watching. So when they complain about the late kickoff time, I just say, you wouldn't have been watching that game anyway if it wasn't on in your local market. So this is actually a bonus to you.

[Rich]

Let me tell you slow clap for you, because you make total sense, Right? Because when we were kids, what made Monday Night Football special, when you, if you're a kid like us of the 80s and 90s before Sunday Ticket and red zone. And before all this, I remember as a Niners fan when I had my little Joe Montana jersey on and my dad would let me stay up until halftime on Monday night if it was a game where I really wanted to watch.

[Covino]

Right?

[Rich]

Because 9 o' clock was the eastern standard time. You only got so many looks at other teams like, tell me you knew anything about like the Saints in the 80s, what did they get? Maybe one game and the Niners or Cowboys or someone stomped them. I think this is a great opportunity because you're right, Dan. It's either another one o' clock Eastern game that gets buried somewhere or it's on your octo, you know, your four screen, your quad, or it's on Monday night.

[Danny G]

Isn't part of what made Monday Night Football special in the first place though was. And we hear this from players often, the whole country's watching us right now. Everybody's tuned into this one game, Sunday Night Football.

[Covino]

Now.

[Dan Beyer]

Yes, that's the problem. And they didn't overlap Sunday night.

[Danny G]

Right? I do like how they didn't overlap the two games yesterday. And for us on the west coast it was nice because I was selfishly I was able to finish your post production and go get some food and get home. And I was home by seven to watch the start of that game. So that was nice for us.

[Covino]

West Coast, I'm all for it, Rich. I made a whole night around it. I did nothing but watch football and had the Yankees on my phone.

[Dan Beyer]

And you're talking to someone here who thinks that the Sunday Night Football game is too much. I liked it the old way where Monday night was the marquee window, like for us to consume all of that football in one day. I do think that it is a lot on Sunday. But for Monday, to Danny's point, we missed the start on the west coast of that game and the east coast people are like, well, we're going to miss the endings to the contest. And I get that that's probably more important. But in two weeks we've got a 715 Eastern and an 815 Eastern staggered kick of Jets Dolphins followed by Bengals Broncos. So you're going to just be missing those games anyway because you're going to probably have to choose one of the other. So I just don't find any argument sufficient in why they shouldn't do it that way with this, the true double header.

[Rich]

Yeah, I'm listen more football. When you got all these things going on, I mean he's a, he's a wanted guy, influential guy. Everyone wants a piece of Tommy. Is it Tommy chill out or yeah Tommy get yours because I think that dude needs a break.

By the way, how ironic that Boomer's name went from like a cool nickname to fitting that he's a. He is a Boomer and his name is Boomer. And when he complains like that sounds.

It is a complete, complete whatever burger. And I think the people who are mad are NFL teams, former players and some people in the media. I just don't think the common fan really cares at all on what Tom Brady is or isn't doing.

What I was going to say was I look at Tom Brady for the Raiders the way, again, I love to talk about my coaching prowess for five year olds, but, you know, you see coaches, there's always a dad that might actually have played in the bigs or a dad that, you know is a baseball expert if he gives the coach a little head once a while. Like, I see the kids dropping his elbow or, you know, the pitcher's striding to his left. Like, I think Tom Brady's. There is almost like quality control. A little tidbit here and there. I don't think Tom Brady is pulling the strings for the Raiders on a level that anyone should really care about.

Yeah. And I think that Pete Carroll is probably, to a point, since he turned 74 yesterday, isn't worried about somebody looking over his shoulder in that aspect of it. I think Pete Carroll's happy to have a job in the NFL at 74. And so to think that it could affect the Raiders as a team to have someone micromanaging is maybe what the appearance is. I don't think that's the case with the Raiders.

As you guys mentioned, the NFL did release a statement saying that Brady is allowed to to sit in on the the coaches booth during games. In their statement they mentioned obviously he's a broadcaster for Fox and they laid out what he can and can't do. Not allowed to be at other teams facilities for practice or for production meetings. He is allowed to attend production meetings remotely and if he's doing a sit down interview with someone, can't be at the team's facilities, has to be at an off site location. Something that he doesn't do often. But those are the parameters that he has to work within.

[Rich]

Sort of the dual role. Sort of like when Aaron Andrews sat down with Travis Kelce last week. If he were to do one of those they just go down the block?

[Dan Beyer]

Yeah, probably barbecue joint right in Kansas City.

[Rich]

And I'll be honest, some of these young players, if they had the opportunity to sit down with Tom, they'd say, yeah, wherever you want to do it.

Yeah. But you start putting a lot on other people when you do that. You know, Rich, you're like, yeah, I do this, I do that, I do this, I do that. The more you do this, now you're putting more on me.

What am I put on you?

[Covino]

It's just the truth. You can't do everything. You can't be in two places at once. Something's gonna slip through the cracks. And I imagine that Tom Brady has a team of people that he needs to thank that helps him get by. Look, we're all busy, and we couldn't do it without Danny G, without Spot, without everybody that puts and pulls their weight. So I imagine that's part of that it. But something's going to slip. You can't devote to your family, example, his divorce. You can't devote to the ownership, to the broadcasting, to the flag football, to the TB12. If you're spread out everywhere, you do start spreading yourself thin, something's going to. Something's going to lack. And that might be his relationship with his son, and that may be his role in ownership. Something's going to give.

There's a reason we've never seen him in that coach's box before. Because the game's usually on Sunday and he's usually in the broadcast booth.

[Covino]

Yeah.

[Rich]

So it's an opportunity for him to just check it out again.

[Covino]

This conversation's based on a lot of people giving him flack for the conflict of interest, as seen yesterday in the coach's box while he's still broadcasting for Fox. We're not mad at him for that, like, hey, whatever, no conflict, no harm there. But it just brings on the conversation of what's too much. And. And if you really try to psychoanalyze, like, what are you running from, dude? Can you just chill out and, you know, grill a hot dog in your backyard and hang out? Just A reminder, I said this, what, three years ago. Tom Brady hates his family.

[Rich]

Oh, stop it. You did say that three years ago. I did say it was like his catch line, but let me tell you.

[Covino]

The indications lean towards that statement. Well, you know what I think it is, too. It's like, it's the story of watching the wheels. John Lennon, it's a famous song. He's just sitting there watching the wheels go around because he was bored, because he was riding his high with the Beatles all those years. And then when he sat down, he had nothing to do but write some boring songs. So it's like when you're always on the move and always on the go. And even we felt that at a smaller level. We've been so busy at some points in our life that when it does slow down, you're just bored and you don't know what to do with yourself. Dude.

[Rich]

We fill in for Dan Patrick by lunchtime. Cavino's like, what do I do?

[Covino]

Yeah, no, so I understand. But I think people need to also learn how to chill out a little bit. You know who's enjoying their later years? Michael Jordan. Have you seen him?

[Rich]

He's got like hundred million dollar yachts.

[Covino]

He's traveling around the world. Yeah, he's living life. There's a lot of people, spot wrestlers, musicians, artists, guys that live on the road and live that rock star life. When things slow down, they don't know.

[Rich]

What to do with the time. I think when you slow down, that's one step closer.

[Covino]

Tom Brady, he's like, I'm so used to being TB12 and playing football for all these years, and I'm so synonymous with the football. I don't know how to just chill out. So he just fills up his time. Do you think he stands on the balcony of his really expensive home and just yells out into nothingness, saying, who am I? And by the way, this is no criticism. He's killing it. He's slaying it in everything he does. But my point is he's got a lot of help. I think in a regular life, if you're living that, things are going to slip through the cracks. You know what? I'll take all his money and travel so he can go back to work and earn it back again.

[Rich]

Yeah, but I mean, I think some people find no joy in sitting around.

[Covino]

And some people are better at juggling a lot of things than others, so.

[Rich]

I feel like you and I, if all goes according to plan, are going to hate each other in a couple of weeks.
