And those are always at the front so you can get them. Has brought home hard avocados, too. I'm like. They're like fake boobs, babe, that are too hard.

By the way, to tie it into sports, it's like the dude that came to the open court and his basketball was too full of air and it had that weird sound to it that hated that. You know the sound I'm talking about? Or that extra hard foosball. It's like you got to have a little give. Not Tom Brady sort of give, but he's got to have a little give.

And the ball was like a little lopsided when it had too much air in it.

Yeah, well, Rich Maybe. Maybe I'm just, you know, trying to talk about anything except Nick Bosa's acl. Or maybe I'm trying to talk about anything other than the Mets on the outside looking in of the playoff hunt. Now, it was a miserable weekend for my teams, the Niners.

No, but you lose. Nick Bosa. So did you win? Still three.

And you barely won.

And I had my notes up until the Bosa news. Man, the 49ers barely winning, but they're still finding a way to win.

Yeah, that's a good sign. And then, bam. The bad news about Bosa being out for the season.

Maybe someone steps up. I mean, stepping up to the level of a Nick Bosa, maybe not. But there should be a couple of good tests. The Niners are playing the Jags this week, which maybe could be a win. Maybe they're four. No. And their first real test is against the Rams, which would be the following Thursday Night Football. And then after that, you get a few players back, including George Kittle. So we shall see.

Exactly. All teams experience injuries. That's just a big one.

Before we get all into football, which will be 90% of our show today, could I just vent about fundamental baseball for, you know, you could even set a one minute timer.

Yeah, oh, sure.

You could sit a one minute. I really just want to vent about one minute.

Just like regular minutes or Uber minutes.

[Rich]

All right, I have a timer ready. Should I do it? Hit a one minute timer. All right, so the Mets are losing three nothing on Saturday, right? Yeah. They tie the game up in the ninth. One out. Okay? Nimmo strikes out. Can't put the ball in play.

[Covino]

Himo ain't him.

[Rich]

Oh. Yo, you hit, you put the ball in play. Mets win on a sac fly. Strikes out, can't put the ball in play. Bottom of the 10th runner on second. They get the free runner start hit batter Francisco Alvarez doesn't bunt them over to second and third when the game is tied. Three, three. Because, quote, he's not a good bunter.

Get out of my face with that.

[Rich]

I can't comprehend how in big league baseball a guy can't, quote, be a good bunter. So he grounds into a double play. The game goes into the 11th, Mets lose and now they are tied with the Reds. They're losing the tiebreaker. If that would be the case. So the reality is right now, the Mets are not your third wild card. If Cincinnati and the Mets play each other equally for the final six, Mets are out and I hate every single thing about it. The end.

All right. Yeah.

Oh, you made it.

Now we conquered plums and fake boobs. We've conquered the Mets stinking like Abe Lincoln. Now we got to get into the biggest story, I think, of the weekend or shocker. I should say shocker of the weekend. Everyone's super bowl bound Green Bay packers lose to the Browns. That made me say hmm immediately. Now, let me preface my weekend real quick, Rich.

[Rich]

Yeah.

[Covino]

I was at the Dodgers game on Sunday. Not because I like the Dodgers. I hope they lose. I'm a Yankees fan, but my daughter, respectfully, Danny G. But my daughter was cheering on the field. I was so pumped about that. Her high school got to cheer on Dodger Stadium field on the grass. I was like, that's so cool. So I was at the game, trying to watch the game, but also keeping one eye on the NFL. And I'm looking, I'm like, the packers lost to the Browns. The Browns, arguably the weakest team. They beat the Packers. The packers couldn't score a single point in the fourth quarter, and they let up 13 points to lose in the fourth quarter. That made me say, hmm. It makes me say, what's up with their offense? What's up with the Green Bay packers offense where they can't score in the fourth quarter against the Browns?

[Rich]

I don't know. To watch that game might have been a different story than just seeing the box.

[Covino]

You can't say super bowl bound and you can't beat the Browns.

[Rich]

I'm sorry. Everyone has their trip ups. It was a road game. And listen, it's why I lost my shocker. It's why I lost my big bet of the week. I remember I just had the packers needing to win. We did a teaser bet.

[Covino]

I do love seeing Joe Flaco's excitement, you know, still playing for something that's sort of their super bowl to win in that way. I mean, that was a nice win.

[Rich]

It was a trash game that the packers should have easily won on a almost a chip shot. Last second field goal. It's blocked. Some odd quick momentum goes the Browns way. And I think the packers leave Cleveland, like, baffled and stunned. I don't know if you felt the same way, db I know you're always keeping track of all the games. That game was weird all along. The packers didn't do enough to put him away, and they let Cleveland hang around and then just weird things happened.

[Dan Beyer]

Yeah, I know that Green Bay fans are smarting over the loss because you're like, how do you lose to Cleveland? But really, the game, as you kind of lay out, wasn't much of a game, or it shouldn't have been a game for as long as it was. So for Cleveland to score those 13 unanswered in the final three, 13 or whatever it was, you would have thought that Green Bay would have been up 20 to nothing or 17 to nothing.

[Rich]

It's that feeling you get sometimes. You ever realize when a game DB is like 13, six at halftime, and you're like, that one team with 13, they should be winning by three touchdowns and they're only a touchdown up. That doesn't feel right.

[Covino]

But it ties into what we were saying before about your 49ers. Maybe they're not the best team, but they're Finding ways to win. The Buccaneers finding ways to win. Right.

[Rich]

They must let that one. They must let that one slip away.

[Covino]

Or a Super bowl bound team doesn't lose like that to the Browns. They still find a way to win. So I'm not saying it's over for them, but I'm saying they need to make adjustments.

Green Bay had 14 penalties yesterday. Not that the Browns were perfect by any means, but Cleveland's got a really good defense. Offensively, they just haven't had things working. But you can't allow that team to stick around and think they have a chance. So putting up 10 points is ultimately what cost Green Bay in that scenario. Because 20 would have done it for you in Cleveland. They couldn't do it, man.

[Rich]

Hey, just so many great storylines unfolding in the NFL and that to me had a lot of people knocked out of survivor pools around the. Around the country. I can only imagine if people hadn't used the packers yet and they're in some type of survival suicide pool or something. That's. That was probably a top pick.

[Dan Beyer]

Yeah, it was one of the. One of the top five picks. Seahawks had a lot because they were home against the Saints.

[Covino]

Yeah. You know what, I'm glad you brought them up, DB, because they're second on my list. Seahawks dominated the Saints, right? 44, 13. Rich, you're 49 or 3.

And by the way, that game, by the way, the buyer, I know you probably watch it all just to bask in the glory, but that game was over in like five minutes. I looked up in between 21 nothing.

In the first quarter.

In between the early and late games. I, like, was making food. We had some people over. I went to the kitchen just to put out some new chips and everything. I went back in the living room, like 14, nothing. Yeah, 21 nothing. Like that wasn't even a game.

People over. Must be nice spot. I didn't get an invite. Did you? Huh? Not even a phone call.

I didn't hear anything about that.

I get like annoying phone calls. No invites.

But here's what I was going to say. I was going to give Danny's Dan Byers Seahawks some props saying they might be the best team in the division. Now that Bose is out, I think it's safe to say in the NFC west, the Seahawks, the way they won this weekend, might be tops over your 49ers moving forward. Seahawks 2 and 1. Listen, 49ers still undefeated, but moving forward, it's a little tougher.

[Rich]

Take away Nick Bosa that your things look better for other teams in the NFC West.

[Dan Beyer]

And I'll say this, not to be that guy, but if it's not for that block kick at the end of Philadelphia, I think we are raving about the Rams today going to Philadelphia and winning that football game. So when you talk about that division, and I know you're going to get to that at some point, it's just, it's a loaded division and it's a short week. Seahawks and Cardinals play on Thursday night in an NFC west matchup.

[Rich]

I think, I think it is a better division than we think. And Dan Beyer, you nailed it. Because as an NFC west fan and you know, with all due respect to our friends that are Rams fans, I very rarely root for anything Philly. But at the end there, I'm like, come on, win this game. Give us, give us a, give us an L for the Rams. You know, would help the Seahawks and Niners and yeah, that was sort of sweet. I'll be honest.

I also think if we look at the AFC west today, we would be saying, look at that Broncos defense. DB might have been onto something picking the Broncos to win the AFC West. If they had hung on to beat the Chargers, we would have been saying, man, that defense was even able to hang on against Herbert. But those couple of field goals in the fourth quarter won it for the Chargers.

[Rich]

The same way the 49ers. And I'll say this the same way, the 49ers, they're my team. And I'll be man enough to admit they lucked out on that catch in the end zone against damn byer Seahawks. And yesterday they just found a way to win when they were not playing great with Mac Jones. Right? So the 49ers could very well be 1 and 2. They're 3. 0 and the Broncos are 1 and 2 and could very well be 3. No, no penalty against Indy last week. And if they hold on to beat the Chargers, the Broncos are three and on we're, we're raving about Bo Nicks and Sean Payton and that they're 1 and 2. They're. They're tied with the Chiefs. And you would, in your mind feel like the Chiefs have been awful.

Well, props to Herbert, he's playing big.

Well, Madison Beer got him dressing better before the game, got him inspired with that booty. I guess something, I mean he's looking like a champion.

That pass and catch by he and Keenan Allen to tie it. I mean my goodness.

And DB pointed out something else. A common theme. Missed field goals over the weekend. You mentioned that before. There's a lot of missed field goals.

Blocked field goals.

Blocked field goals. And that was a big part of the weekend that made us go do.

We downplay as fans how important field goal kicker trajectory is? Because there were a couple of people that pointed out during the games and analysis and postgame like yo, we noticed that that he had a low trajectory and we have a better chance. Like we assume the guy just kicks it. I'm not saying we the casual fans like he just kicked the field goal. If you don't get that ball up.

Well, because a lot of them have been working on the line drive kicks for the new kickoff. So seems to be affecting some of them on their field goal.

[Rich]

The longer the kick you kind of have to shoot it, start it low so you get the power to go in ascend. So you're seeing some guys that it's not even Dan Denbigher. It's not even like they're jumping up high. They're just putting a big ass paw up there and they're, they're hitting it.

And I look like an idiot because you referenced the Broncos penalty against the Colts in Week two and for some that don't remember the colts missed a 60 yard field goal but they got a 15 yard penalty because of a leverage penalty. And I said to Kerry Rhodes that Sunday afternoon why are you trying to block a 60 yarder? Like it's, it's tough enough to make just it's going to be a make or miss. But yesterday completely proved me wrong with the, the various blocks that we had, the long kicks that were blocked. So that is why you may get a leverage penalty because you are trying to block those.

Could I point something out that only I know, I know we're we're on in some east coast New York surrounding markets but for all our friends that are Mets and Jets fans, which is a sad existence. Did you see the meme going around how the Bucks game winning field goal and the Mets lost to the Nationals happened like simultaneously but but were previously like the jets were winning and the Mets had like men on base and then all within a second. Mets and jets both pooped the bed.

Now it's a Grumpy, grumpy, grumpy. Now, we're going to get to all your feedback, but I'll kick it off with a tweet I saw. Sort of summed up everything I wrote down as far as things that made you go. All these mental notes I made. Poppy Bender 1. Poppy Bender 1. On social media, Ovino and Rich says NFL recap of things that made me go. It was the Sunday of suck. The Falcons suck after smacking the Vikes. Saints are a horror show of suck. No burrow. Bengals suck. Titans are a suck fest. Raiders can't suck enough. Cowboys comically suck. Giants the suckiest of suck that ever sucked. God help us. There's a lot of suck. So there's a lot of teams that might be ass based on this weekend, too. Bengals might be ass without burrow.

That was. That was a daunting.

Falcons might be ass.

That was a daunting game for the Bengals because, you know, you assume, like, you could sort of hold your own. You may not win, but you could hold your own without burrow. But that looked like, oh, no.

So, yeah, there was a lot of, like, ooh, wait, yeah, a lot of suck over the weekend.

And you know, with every suck, right, there's gotta be a team that stepped up. Like, yeah, Dallas sucks, but, hey, the Bears played nice. Caleb Williams maybe better than people give him credit for.

Few good games, not a lot to show for it until this, this past.

And they were there some winners of week three, but I think the biggest winner was the Bears Hope.

Ask the Browns, ask the Eagles, ask the Chargers. No matter, you know, how much they pay these quarterbacks, it always comes down to kicking. You're paying the Miles Garrett's and the Boses and the Micah Parsons and the, you know, and the quarterbacks. 40, 50, $60 million. It's a place kicker so many times. Aaron Rodgers is 2 and 1 because a guy on his team kicked a 60 yard field goal in week one. The, you know, there's teams like yesterday, little block and then a kick the other way.

Rounds beat the packers, like right simultaneously.

Dude, the 49ers got rid of their kicker because he was costing them. It's.

Let's talk about kickoff returns for a second too. How about just special teams in general? Your boy Debo Samuel started off that game for the Commanders by running one almost to the house. And the commanders special teams looked elite. And the Raider special teams look like some position coaches needed to be fired.

And I'll tell you what, special teams and kicking, which is part of special teams, that is. We always talk about that being the most underrated component of a team. But now with the touchback, if your ball doesn't hit that zone and it goes through the end zone, 35 yard line is a pretty substantial starting point, don't you think? And I saw a couple times yesterday watching around the league, there were some kickers that just booted it through the end zone. And you're like, wow, they're really quick to want to give the 35, huh?

[Covino]

Now, I was at the Dodgers game, Rich, watching my daughter on the field cheerleading like, I said. So I had one eye on the game, one eye on my phone watching all the football scores in the game on the red zone. But I got home in time to watch the end of the later games and the Chiefs Giants. And I know you think the Giants are ass.

[Rich]

No, but that was a stinker of a game. That was like the worst game I watched.

[Covino]

It was, you know, because I wanted to enjoy some football camp.

No, I mean, had a pretty good game and he ran. I think he had 60 yards rushing.

A couple of good plays he had.

And I think he made a real big statement yesterday. He did a backflip touchdown. And I think what we're getting at here, though, is, and I believe Dable said today that he's open to Dart being the starter moving forward. So I think what we're seeing is limited time, shorter leash on Russell Wilson that we may have thought, and maybe some changes soon.

So I don't know. There's going to be a change in New York with the Giants from Russell Wilson to Jackson Dart. Remember, they also have Jameis Winston on the roster, so it could be a change. But Brian Dabel was asked today about if they were going to make a change with Wilson. He says they're evaluating everything and working through personnel decisions.

We'll learn a lot more probably on Wednesday. It's also on Wednesday we'll find out more about commander's quarterback Jaden Daniels, who missed their win over the Raiders because of his knee injury. Head coach Dan Quinn says the Daniels remains day to day. 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa done for the year with a torn ACL in his knee suffered in yesterday's win over the Cardinals. This one's in his right knee. He actually partially torn the ACL in his right knee in high school and suffered a left knee acl tear in 2020. Chargers running back Najee Harris done for the year with a ruptured Achilles tendon while Cowboys wide out CD Lamb could miss three to four weeks, according to espn with that high ankle sprain, he is expected to miss at least Week 4 against the Green Bay packers, which is Sunday Night Football. Tonight is Monday Night Football. Week three wraps up with the Lions and Ravens in Balt Baltimore at 8:15 Eastern Time. Couple of college football notes. ACC will move to nine conference games by 2027, also mandating that each school must play a minimum of 10 games against Power 4 schools. Syracuse fined 25 grand by the ACC for faking injuries during their win over Clemson this past Saturday in College hoops Auburn ED coach Bruce Pearl retiring after 11 seasons. Yes, two Final Four.
