New York can y' all help me understand the five boroughs in terms of who's more Yankees, who's more Met, Jets, Giants.

I'm just confused by the man.

Great question. I would say this is by there's no real rhyme or reason. However when you talk about who roots for who, there are a lot of Mets, jets and for some reason Yankees, Giants that those usually cluster together. And you mean the winners and the losers Essentially. I mean, to be honest. Yeah, in a way.

[Covino]

Well, even when we worked at sny, it was Mets, jets and all things New York sports. So they even share sort of a network.

[Rich]

But it really is that back in the day. And they rhyme back in the day. I don't think rhyming has anything. There's a rhyme and a reason.

[Spot]

Yeah, but no reason.

[Covino]

The rhyme is the Mets and Jets and the Nets. The reason is you root for losers.

[Rich]

Well, I think Queens, if you know the five boroughs Queens is sort of on the way to Long Island. Right. So you talk about Queens is closer. Flushing Queens is closer to Long Island. So if you grew up on Long island, there's a decent chance you may lean Mets jersey. It's a flip of a coin. Jersey's like, you know, across the river.

[Covino]

I'd say there's more Yankees fans in Jersey, though. And you could tell by the guido jersey mentality of the 27 rings. The, ooh, the Jersey shore type of guy does lean Yankees a little more. I think.

[Rich]

You'Re going to go like Long Island, Queens, that direction East Mets jersey and like city, the Bronx. Yanks, jets, people with terrible taste. Giants, people that like to win every, you know, 10 years with a goon quarterback. But Knicks, I mean, everyone loves the Knicks. I don't know any real Nets fans. And any other thoughts? Islanders, Long Island, Rangers.

I feel like. I feel like you. You nailed it. I feel like you confused it a little bit for other people listening, but you covered it.

Is there a stronghold of Phillies fans in Jersey?

[Rich]

South Jersey? There's a point in South Jersey, Cherry Hill area. Like, once you get beyond, like, where Snooki and the situation hung out. Once you get beyond a certain point in South Jersey, then you start hitting people that associate more with Philly than New York, which is a whole separate conversation. Right.

I've been there. I've experienced all that.

[Rich]

Yeah. You know, they're pumping their fist and they might have a Bryce Harper jersey on melting pot of baseball. But, you know, to bring it full circle out here in la, is there, if you're down the. Down the coast enough, maybe Angels. But I don't really know many Angels fans.

[Danny G]

Right. I mean, growing up when I was a little kid here in Southern California, it was a lot of Raiders, Dodgers, Lakers fans.

[Rich]

Yeah.

[Danny G]

You can see those three logos together on one sticker.

Oh, yeah. I know more Mexican dudes out here in LA named Angel than I know Angel's fans. True story. It's true story.

[Rich]

And Rich, before we get into the words of wisdom.

Speaking of baseball and speaking baseball, I wanted to talk about going back to an old job because it seems to be like an underlying theme if you pay attention to what's going on with Dame Lillard, the talks of LeBron, like it could be the fitting ending if he goes back to Cleveland. Or is that weak because Dame beat him to the punch? That's the other speculation there.

[Danny G]

How cool was that video, really quick of Dame walking back into the locker room all emotional.

[Covino]

I mean, it's the story bookending, you know, the. What's the word? I'm thinking of the term.

[Rich]

I'm thinking of bookends.

[Covino]

Book. You bookend your career where you, where you started. It's nice, you know, we see that a lot.

[Rich]

Didn't Griffey do that for a second? I forgot for a second.

[Covino]

No, he did. Yeah. I'm trying to think who else did that? Who else comes to mind? You know, they went back just for the retirement purposes of calling it. Tino came back to the Yankees. Even though I still think of him as a Mariner, a lot of ways he did come back to the Yanks.

It would be like if LeBron went back to Cleveland to end his career.

[Covino]

Yeah, but that's the story, right? So going back to an old job, an old ex, is it worth it? Is there a reason you left? Do you want to say your goodbyes? There's another story today that sort of ties into it where 45 year old pitcher Rich Hill comes back to the major league.

[Rich]

Isn't that wild? I love this story.

[Covino]

It's not like he's coming back to an old team, but he is returning back to the bigs and it's his 14th team. So if you look at his stats.

[Danny G]

Whoa.

[Covino]

If you look at his baseball reference or his baseball card. Fourteen teams, which ties the most most teams played for in his 21st season. And then I had to look it up.

[Danny G]

Rich.

[Covino]

I'm like, well, who the hell played for more than 14 teams? And Rich and I had the same stupid thought. Like Kenny Lofton, like Ricky Henderson. Yeah. Like who played long?

[Rich]

Ricky might have had like 10 and bounced around.

[Covino]

And apparently it's Edwin Jackson. Right handed pitcher from 2003 to 2019 played for 14 teams. And before Jackson set the record, Octavio Stotel held it with appearances for 13 different teams between 99 and 2013 according to Chad GPT. But based on that, how do you feel about going back to an old job? I look, you never say Never. And that's why you never burn bridges. Because there's only so many opportunities in life when it comes to women. Like, we've heard stories where it works out great.

[Rich]

I think a lot of times with women and sports, two of my favorite things. Yeah, I think that second time around it's going to be hard to top the first time. Unless maybe you dated when you were young and it didn't work out and then you guys found love again. It's like we were meant to be.

[Covino]

A lot of dating experts call that the pet cemetery theory, where you go back but you know it's not the same person. It's not the same person. I can't tell you start to remember why all the problems were there in the beginning, why he left in the first place.

[Rich]

I can't tell you. One athlete that returned to a team and was better the second time around. Usually it's like a beautiful farewell where it's like, hey, they're back, but they're not what they were. Remember Tom Seaver came back to the Mets for a second when we were little kids. Like people come back to a team for a second cup of coffee, as they say, right?

[Covino]

Yeah. It's kind of cool because I mean, you see a lot of players that, that leave and come back. I mean, even managers leave and come back because they have history with that team. The old Billy Martin sort of theory. How many times did he leave and come back? Like at least three or four with the Yankees. Going back to an old job. What was your experience? Is this something you recommend? I think, like I said, there's so few opportunities maybe in your career, even though the world's a bigger or smaller place now. You could leave cities if you want, but that's why you never burn bridges. Yet people still always do for whatever reason.

[Rich]

Came back to the radio station. I know this is a very la inside one, but you may have heard of the radio show because they were pretty famous back in the day. Kevin and Bean. Didn't Kevin of Kevin and Bean. Isn't he like doing a show on KROC again by himself though?

[Danny G]

Yeah, he's doing afternoons.

[Covino]

He's back. So it's one of those nostalgic reasons, right? There's a built in fan base, there's familiarity, there's. There's a lot of pros and cons. Do the pros outweigh the cons is the question.

[Rich]

I work Fox Sports Radio is technically under the iHeart umbrella, but I worked at a pop station in New York. Z100 When I was a younger guy. I think it would be weird to go back there, but I feel like a lot of times people do end up, like you said, at the same company. So you never burn those bridges, like Cavino said. But Rich Hill, how many teams?

[Covino]

14 different teams. But he's being called up. The story is he's being called up by the Red Sox to be the starting pitcher tonight, if I'm not mistaken, again for his 14th different team. So returning back to the bigs on the mound tonight.

If anything, I'd say it signifies most of the time, the beginning of the end. If not the end.

Well, Braves legend Chipper Jones chimed in as well, saying that he and Osborne will be forever linked by his song Crazy Train. If you didn't know, Jones used Crazy Train as his walk up song during most of his career. Even sharing a funny story rich between him and Mike Piazza, who during one plate appearance said that Piazza said that he hated the song so much and Jones went back to him. We'll get, get ready to hear it about five more times. So he just remembered sharing that little fun moment between them. Lots of sports, other sports organizations, of course, jumping in as well, including the Patriots, who use Crazy Train as their intro to Patriots games for about 20 years. So midweek or Major dude.

[Rich]

All aboard. All aboard. I mean, if you go to a sporting event, there's a good chance I, I, I, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath will play. So I, I think it's, I think it's major. Chipper Jones, just one of many that used an Ozzy Osbourne or Sabbath song as a walk up as a crowd favorite. It was, there were stadium anthems, man.

[Covino]

It was a major story because there's a lot of people like, I don't know that many Aussie songs. Yes, you do. If you've been to a ball game or a stadium before, you've heard them or you've heard songs that were clearly influenced by Ozzy Osbourne. Remember, they created metal music. So if you hear ACDC or any band that has stadium anthems, it's because of guys like Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. So we have to pay homage to him in the world of sports. And I find it odd that Mike Piazza didn't like that song. No. Because he's such a rock fan.

He missed the story.

Then I didn't understand what I miss.

Because that means it signified Chipper Jones getting up.

You may say, well, I'm not really a rock guy. If you go through Ozzy's catalog, you'll be like, oh, my God, that's another Ozzy song.

And a new interview with Bussin with the boys. Former player turned broadcaster Greg Olson addressed his feelings about getting pushed out for Tom Brady in the main Fox broadcasting lineup. So he said, while he's admitted in the past that, quote, resentment felt not far off, he explained that he has zero animosity towards Brady. He said he doesn't just sit there saying, I hope their broadcast stinks. He acknowledged it's independent from his personal aspirations of wanting to be at the highest level possible, calling a Super Bowl. He says he wants to continue to elevate his career, but he and Brady can both simultaneously achieve what they're going for. So no animosity midweek or major?

[Rich]

You know, I think it's major.

[Sarah Spain]

Definitely major.

[Rich]

Because I sort of thought that in my mind, I did picture Greg Olson when he wasn't having a tie wrapped around his head, partying at a wedding like a crazy man. I love Greg Olson. I assumed he's probably like, God damn, Tom Brady. Like, well, you know what? You could coexist and both be great. But I know what he's saying. As long as Tom Brady exists, he will have the number one game. And if you're a guy like Olson that strives for greatness, you want to make it to the super bowl as a broadcaster. And as long as he's on Fox, he won't do that. As long as Tom Brady's alive. Sucks.

[Covino]

Yeah, that does suck.

[Rich]

Tom Brady, a thorn in his broadcasting side. It's a major story. It is, because think of how big it was and how much we defended Greg Olson saying that, hey, man, he deserved it. And a lot of people still think that, but Tom Brady's working hard at his craft. It's just good to hear his side of the story and how he truly feels about it.

All right, some Little League drama going on in New Jersey. I don't know if you saw this. And, no, Camino doesn't have to do with your 27 Little League home runs.

New Jersey Italian name ever after he did a huge bat flip following a home run in his last game. So the flip earned him an injection from that game on top of his suspension. The Haddonfield Little Leaguer who was playing against Harrison Little League at the time in a 12U game is fighting for eligibility with his family filing an emergency, emergency temporary restraining order, trying to get the suspension overturned. He said that umpires cited the bat flip as a safety concern. And the Little League International told the family that the child broke a rule. His father said, this kid's played Little League his entire life, has always wanted to be in the World Series. The division game is. The 12 year division game is tomorrow.

[Rich]

This is disgusting.

[Spot]

This is. Hold on. With the final decision coming down to the wire, the judge will make a decision by 1:30 tomorrow. So it's still up in the air. Midweek or major?

[Rich]

This is major. And I'll tell you why it's major. It's disgusting that you would suspend a kid and eject him for celebrating in the moment at the biggest stage for a little kid. And what do they emulate, these superstars? And bat flips are a part of what makes baseball exciting. We want the showmanship. I'll be honest, a great bat flip is a big part of Major League Baseball. These kids are just imitating their heroes. This is disgusting that they would suspend this kid. Maybe give him a warning like, hey, slow down, buddy. He's 12, but his career is over.

One Sicilian, one regular, some drama kicking up. Probably has no basis, but former NBA player Jeff Teague discussing the best era of LeBron James. And according to Teague, LeBron was forced to sit out after the NBA began testing for HGH over a decade ago, alleging that while on the heat, LeBron was on steroids. And the reason that he had to Sit out was because when they were doing the testing, he apparently LeBron said that his back hurt and sat out for three weeks and came back skinny and apparently was like, you know, all out of it. So Teague said when he was in the league at the time. The DEA has said that LeBron had no part in any performance enhancing drugs. And fans are even calling out Teague's allegations as false, saying that you don't do something like this. So we'll see if anything comes of it midweek or major.

Some weak sauce. Okay. Who are you going to believe? The DEA or the retired athlete that they might have a bone to pick with LeBron James? It depends on who you ask.

[Covino]

I think it's a mid story because it's not impossible to think that a league would protect their superstar athletes. You don't think the NBA protected Jordan at one point? I think they did. And again, that's just conspiracy and speculation. But it's not impossible. I mean, LeBron has done some pretty incredible things. He's a pretty ripped and muscular dude. It's not impossible. I mean, just no one wants to believe that. And the NBA definitely doesn't want people to think that.
