I know I was going to come on here and the job I had prior to this, I got fired from. And I mean I, there's still time for this one, but I, I'm here until Friday. But no, I was, When I was in college, I had a part time job. I worked at a Cold Stone slash subway. Okay. Like, it was one of those where the, the room was one side subway, the other half was Cold Stone. I was hired at Coldstone, but I could do both. I was.

[Steve Covino]

You were really good.

[Rich Davis]

I have a question. Was it. Those were those the days where they would actually like sing a little song if you tip them.

[Ryan Bursh]

Oh, I feel like it Cold at Cold Stone.

[Rich Davis]

You used to, I feel like when you'd give a tip at Cold Stone, throw a couple bucks in, they'd ring a bell and everyone would sing a little song or something.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah.

So it was those days. But we didn't do it because we, we just said, hey, we're not owned by Cold Stone. We're actually owned by Subway. And Subway says we, we don't, we don't sing for tips. So. Sorry, guys. Yeah, that was our line. It worked. Every time I got fired from that Cold Stone, I got fired on the 4th of July. It was because when, whenever my friends would come in, which, by the way, every single person did this. Every employee did this. When your friends come in, they would ask for a. Like it. You know, because they had to like it, love it, gotta have it. And you would, you know, you. There was the, the sizing system was subjective. Okay. Like, I love it, gotta have it doesn't mean small, medium, large. It means whatever. It means so, you know, you would. You would, like, accidentally scoop a little too much and then, oh, oh, shoot. I just made a. Gotta have it on accident. Well, I made it. I'm not gonna not give it to you, so I'm just. But you asked for, like, it, so I'm gonna sell it to you at

that price you got busted for. Gotta have it.

The weakest reason everyone got fired.

But that's. That's a good point. I think everybody, when they see ice cream being made and they're like, oh, man, I'm getting. I'm getting more than I asked for. This is great. And I'm not gonna have to pay for that extra. That's awesome.

And this wasn't like something where I did something else and I deserve to be fired. I. I would like to say that I was a good employee. I didn't do anything wrong. And I heard you made a hell

of a cold cut combo, too.

[Ryan Bursh]

Cold cuts were pre made. They were in the. The plastic. You would just throw it on there and. Yeah, so I flew through that delicious. One night. They had like a work meeting and they timed how fast we can make a foot long. And I was like, one of the slower times. But my Subway looked. Imagine my. My sandwich looked immaculate.

You were, you were a sandwich artist.

I was a sandwich artist. I wasn't just throwing it on there. Stupid thing. We all made a foot long and they were like, okay, well, you can't eat them because we're just gonna count this as waste. Yeah. So I think I've been thinking about this this week. Like, what's. What's the way to go out? You know, at your job? You guys were talking about LeBron and if. If that's the way to go out, like, if this is it for him, should he have done a farewell tour? I've been thinking about that this week. And when I'm. How. How should I spend my final week? There's some things I'm doing, like every day. I'm trying to eat at places around here that I always, like, saw. And I was like, it's so good.

[Steve Covino]

You know why? Because the routine is over. Yeah. Something that was such a big part of your life for the past 10 years.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

You're not going to be doing that again. You even got to say goodbye to the guy at the nearest deli or something.

[Ryan Bursh]

Right.

[Steve Covino]

Because he's gonna think you died because he's not gonna see you anymore.

[Ryan Bursh]

I just. I just did that with the security guard at the building here, this super nice guy. His name is jb. I've. I've said hi to him every day for years. I didn't know his name until an hour ago when I went up to him and finally talked to him.

[Rich Davis]

It's funny you would say that, because when we left New York to move to the west coast to work with SiriusXM, ESPN and now Fox Sports Radio, Covino made fun of me. He called it the Rich Davis farewell tour. Because I went around town letting people know, like, hey, the coffee guy I saw, like, hey, I'm moving. I don't like. Because again, I think if you don't say goodbye to these people, they do wonder. They'll be like, what happened to Ryan Birch? What happened to.

[Steve Covino]

Again, you don't think about those things. That's why it's a great reminder. It's like Rich and I used to get soup all the time at this place called Halen Hardy in New York City. And we would go there all the time. And subway, we would go to all these same places and then all of a sudden you move or your time shift changes or your routine changes and you never go to those places again. So to take it in one last time, I think that's a great idea and a great reminder because you think you're going to have all these mental snapshots, but you forget and you move on in this.

[Rich Davis]

Whatever's next to tie it to tie to Best farewell. I have a best farewell and I have a good firing story as well. Best farewells in sports, if you're going to go sports, is the number one answer for everyone. Have to be John Elway.

[Steve Covino]

Oh, I was going to Antonio Brown.

[Sam]

Rich.

[Steve Covino]

That one.

[Sam]

And I remember famously, Kareem Abdul Jabbar was given a rocking chair and he looked at it like, the hell is this?

[Rich Davis]

That's funny.

[Sam]

Yeah, he didn't. He wasn't smiling a lot through his farewell tour.

[Steve Covino]

Who started? Was it Kareem or like, was It Derek Jeter, like, when did it really become a thing to do a farewell tour? Because as we said earlier, bro, you're right. Like LeBron said. Or there's speculation that LeBron might not even want that sort of farewell.

[Dan Buyer]

I don't know when Kareem's last year was, but I was in attendance for Dr. J's last game ever. They lost to the bucks in the first round of the playoffs of game five. But I remember Dr. J had had a farewell tour and this would have been in 1987.

[Steve Covino]

So he had a farewell tour, not just one.

[Dan Buyer]

Not like, I don't know if every arena did, but you know, places, you know, they faced the Lakers in the finals, you know, so like, so the Lakers would give them something and Boston did. But I know Dr. J had some stops and then. And I think Kareem was right after that. Danny. I can't remember exactly when Kareem retired. I thought maybe it was a year or two later than that, but. But that would have been around the time that those things started that I remember.

[Steve Covino]

Part of the deal birth. Should you send your like goodbye email to the company? Because that's part of the process nowadays, right? Because how many times do you get an email? Like, I don't even know this person. Delete. Beat it. How many times you get some random email?

[Rich Davis]

It's been a really four year journey for you. Like four year journey. You don't deserve an email.

[Sam Buyer]

Get a shout out from Fritzi. I know he replied and said, hey, best of luck, man.

[Steve Covino]

And you know what? 10 years, that. That's worthy of a hey, farewell, goodbye in an email. Rich is right. Sometimes it's like it's been a great two years. Like great two years. Beat it.

How about a decade? How about ten years?

Yeah.

First has hit it. I would say great farewells in sports. One more. I hate to say it, the fact that your guy, Derek Jeter had a walk off opposite field base hit in like typical Jeter fashion at Yankee Stadium final home game.

His. His career was such a fantasy. Like every big moment like that, his 3,000th hit was a home run. So many great moments like that. Incredible.

It's got to be the top after probably John Elway, which you said. But it doesn't have to be great. Maybe memorable. I jokingly said Antonio Brown or you know, when.

Yeah. Oh my God.

That's. That's one of the most memorable. Sure, it wasn't a playoff game or a championship, but in terms of, like, what he did, that game was all about Kobe and the fact that he went off in the way he did it was incredible.

Anything else that you're gonna do? Like I said, are you gonna steal anything from here, like, as a keepsake, like, you know what I mean? Like, is there something else you're gonna do? Make sure. Yeah, maybe Fred's hard hat, you know,

but honestly, you should steal something from Big Mike's office.

Like one of his bottle heads. Yeah, yeah. One of the bobbleheads. One thing I am going to do is, where's my UCLA bear?

I do have a lot of different audio saved from the last 10 years. One thing was, you know, I did a Dodger podcast with Beau called Swing Shift for a few years. In terms of physically, I'm going to have to see one of Mike's things.

I think of the movie Half Baked and I think of Scarface. I think that's a classic scene in. In movies and classic moment where he quits the place. Like, F you. F you. You're cool. F you. I'm out. Like, I think that's a classic one in movies.

You know what everyone loves coming with.

Who's coming with, who's coming with. That's another one. That's another great one.

People love to say. People love to say, like, if I won the lottery or quit a job, I want to own a poop on my boss's desk. Dude, everybody says that, but I wonder anyone's ever. You did you beat me, Rich? Can't say that.

Because Bersch is a good friend of mine. We've become really good friends the last five years. I'd say we've worked together for over 10 years now.

Do you feel like he's leaving you behind, Sam?

Well, here's the thing.

[Sam Buyer]

I started it. Kind of. Because I started it. My 10 year anniversary at Fox Sports Radio is coming up on like May 3rd, so he's gonna be gone by then. And it's like this seismic shift of someone I've worked with for 10 years. And one of my friends that, you know, I went to his, you know, Burch and I have hung out. We, you know, I went to his wedding.

[Rich Davis]

And you care about him so much. Last like two weeks ago, you're like, I'm gonna go to Bersch's house and watch slides from his honeymoon. I'm like, oh, yeah.

[Sam Buyer]

No, I told him. I was like, bursh, you and your wife meet. Meet me at a Toppers Pizza in Simi Valley and tell me all about your honeymoon. And you know, over in Asia, and it was great and we had some great pizza. But let's go. Two super. Wait, go ahead, Dan.

[Dan Buyer]

That's. That's why he wanted to meet up. He told me that when he told me that there's like different Toppers or something and there's only certain ones that he likes. So one of them.

[Sam Buyer]

No, they're all in the same area.

[Rich Davis]

Okay.

[Dan Buyer]

Because there's one up by us they're all bragging about. So I think they're. I think that's why he wanted to go.

[Sam Buyer]

I could have just gone and ate by myself. I did want to hear about the. The honeymoon.

[Steve Covino]

But you know what, though? Sam on a series. And I want to hear your. Your take quick. I think we all could relate to, like, you worked with for so long, and it does feel weird when that person leaves and you're like you're there. You know, like, we've all had, like, someone you shared an office with or someone you worked with and they moved on, and you're like, do I feel like you have that feeling, too?

What about when you're the last one?

[Steve Covino]

That. That's. That's the feeling.

[Sam Buyer]

It feels like the end ending of the sandlot where they tell you where the guys go and then they disappear, and it's like you're kind of sad about it. You're like, little Jimmy went off and had a family, and he moved to Utah and never. No one ever saw from him again.

[Steve Covino]

And Sam stayed there by himself.

[Sam Buyer]

And then the only one left was me, Sam. But quickly, two super bowls ago. So this is the New Orleans super bowl. I was working with Burch. We were doing radio row. Dan was on updates, and we were talking about, like, New Orleans cuisine. This drop has never made the air before. It's only just been circulating in circles here, fsr. But instead of turning Dan Byers mic on for the update, I accidentally turned Bershinger's mic on, and he was talking about New Orleans cuisine, and he said this.

Some of that crawl fish.

So when the. When we went live at the top of Doug's show, instead of the update playing, that's what played down the line, which I was saying some of that because Doug was talking about crawfish. So I. I thought he heard it and then heard me, like, mocking him. In essence, I turned pershing.

So that went over the air. Probably shouldn't have admitted

Full disclosure, I had no idea who this guy was. I didn't know about his Rainbow Rainbow Warrior greatness at the time, but the Tokyo Toe has a good chance of making the Las Vegas roster. Hold on. Brendan Sorsby, former Indiana Hoosier quarterback turned Cincinnati Bearcat turned Texas Tech Red Raider, has entered a treatment program not for an issue like substance abuse, but rather for a massive gambling addiction. Sores. Sorby is accused of placing thousands of bets on sporting events while as an active college athlete. A few of those bets on his own Indiana team. When he was there as a true freshman, Sorsby arrived at Texas Tech as one of college football's highest paid athletes. But his eligibility is now in certain jeopardy. Jocks with a sports gambling addiction. Midweek or major?

Definitely major.

I think this is major. I'm gonna say this carefully and respectfully. You know, we live in a time and culture where everybody thinks, thinks they're going to be the next YouTube star or whatever. We also live in a culture where all these kids think they're going to make their next fortune by betting on the weather. Right. And betting on predictions or crypto. Or crypto or hitting it big like that. And I think these things with the wrong people. Like a guy like me, I don't have an addictive personality in that way. So yeah, if I, you know, drop some money on a prediction or on an investment, whatever, but some people get really caught up in that and it could be a, it could be a life changer, put it that way, if not handled properly. So I think this could be a major issue moving forward.

[Rich Davis]

I agree. It's very major.

[Steve Covino]

It's too accessible.

[Rich Davis]

It's major because like you said, the culture we live in now, where I read an article that younger generation, the post college kids feel like they have a better chance to win money or make a tricky quick buck investment than actually get into a career and earn a living the old fashioned way. So, you know, wagering sites, this feeds that, that need. Yeah, the prediction market, wagering sites, crypto, NFTs, these, if done responsibly, are really fun things. But a lot of people are not responsible.

[Sam Buyer]

You're betting on your own team, you know, you're if you're a college athlete, you have to completely stay away from all that stuff because then you're calling the integrity of the game slippery slope, buddy boy. All right, let's go on another story here. For some reason I love crime stories over more like, you know, pop culture stories. Last week I had the guy swapping out the Lego pieces for the dry pasta. This week, let me quote the offspring. If you're under 18, you won't be doing any time but two 18 year old men in Florida were busted for a brazen social media stunt over the weekend. Jannik, I'm gonna try to say this. Janika Skrevarek is accused of taking a riding lawnmower into a Target store in Marion County, Florida. I watched the video. He can't quite find make it through the doors on his first attempt, seemingly damaging them. He then drives into the store, likely causing some mild hysteria. His pal and social media ride or die cameraman was also arrested. Guys, criminal record accruing a criminal record doing some dumb crap for the TikTok Looksy daisies midweek or major?

[Steve Covino]

I'll say major. You know what?

Definitely major.

It's no surprise that a Florida man does something dumb. We see those headlines all the time.

Young Florida man. Man does something dumb. Not a surprise there. But I, I think that some of these young cats need to start learning their lessons. You're messing with the wrong people. You're doing all these things for the clicks. You know, people are going to get hurt out there. And, and I don't know, I just think this, this story is, is on that track of someone's going to get

hurt one day someone's gonna get hurt. And by the way, I, I think it's more mid.

But it is like someone's gonna get hurt. Or even better, someone's gonna get punched in the nose. I see videos all the time where someone will, I don't know, put a bucket on someone's head in Home Depot and pretend it wasn't them.

Yeah, you mess with the wrong guy, you're gonna get punched in the nose. Like you ever see someone like go behind someone and whisper in their ear and the guy's like, what are you doing?

In a food court, yeah. So you know, people are gonna have to learn that you can't mess around. Not everything's a joke. Not everything's a click. And you know know everyone's looking for that cheap viral moment.

And. And these guys were also captured I think at a Culver's with like a leaf blower doing another stunt. So they'd already kind of run up like a track record of of nonsense.

So I saw a dude with a leaf blower on TikTok blowing women's weaves off their head.

You know, it's interesting, you know how we've talked about how in baseball they're doing reverse framing now.

Reverse framing with the catchers, in other words, catchers trying to make it look

But is that. Is that a. Is that a good look? Meaning, like, I believe in this kid so much. Like, I almost feel like it's a Tom Brady trying to give a little extra confidence boost.
