Steve Covino
All right, Steve Covino, Rich Davis, buddy, Danny G. Sam Buyer. We got Mike who runs this. Take this hour Mike who runs this place. And of course Midweek Major with Sammy. Sweetheart, we go over all the stories in the world of sports and pop culture, Samuel, we decide, are they mid stories weak or major as the kiddos say. And as the kiddos say, that's Rich Davis, your chopped unk. Yeah, he's going to be getting your phone calls. Well, you're not a chopped chopped unk. You're looking like a CHUD today. Steve Covino, Rich Davis. And we be rocking out. Let's go and let's go to the phones and wrap this up. 87799 on Fox. 87799 on Fox. The most tired and timeless debate of all time. It's not tastes great, less filling, long lasting or fast acting. It's LeBron or Jordan.
Rich Davis
I thought it was the roll your toilet paper like over or under.
Steve Covino
Another good one.
Ryan Bursh
Over.
Rich Davis
It's always cheese or ranch.
Steve Covino
People love debating these things. Yeah.
Rich Davis
And better. Better. New York first baseman with a mustache, Keith Hernandez or Dom Mattingly. That was a big one in our childhood.
Steve Covino
That was the New York in the tri state area. That's a huge one. So that's a really a great example actually. Hernandez or Mattingly. Danny G. What was the LeBron quote again? About LeBron. I mean, LeBron's quote about Jordan about making him proud.
Sam
Yeah, let me call that up right now for you.
Rich Davis
He's just something to the effect of I hope I made him the 23 number proud.
Sam
First he talked about how this goat topic's a very tiring conversation and barbershop talk.
Steve Covino
But it's all over the place again today because of all this.
Sam
It sure is. And he said, I just hope that I made him proud wearing number 23.
Steve Covino
So based on that, based on this debate that is timeless and tired. What are some other ones that just will never go away in our lifetime? We'll wrap it up with your phone calls and then Mike, who runs this take?
Rich Davis
All right, who we got?
Sam
All right, let's start in Arizona with David.
Rich Davis
What up, Dave?
Caller
Hello, guys. How are you this afternoon?
Rich Davis
We're good, man. What's on your mind?
Caller
Two big ones. PlayStation and Xbox, Apple and Android.
Rich Davis
Well, anyone that says Android ruins the group chat and they're wrong. Android. Oh, you got a good camera. Good for you, Rich.
Steve Covino
Rich is the biggest phone snob you'll ever have.
Rich Davis
No, doub, I would if I was single. I would never date a woman with an Android because I'm like, what type of taste do you have? Terrible.
Steve Covino
It's unbelievable.
Sam
Such a lie.
Steve Covino
And as far as sleep with her,
Rich Davis
I would pull Ray J, but I
Steve Covino
wouldn't you know, that's a real good one because I had both, too, when they first came out. So that's a real good one. All right, Ray J.
Sam
That means you really wouldn't sleep with her. Benny in Ohio.
Steve Covino
Hey, Benny. Benny.
Caller
Yes, hello.
Rich Davis
What's up, Benny? Barrels.
Caller
Hey. Okay. Yeah, there's Benny in Ohio. Our biggest debates, we like to argue about berries or Emmett. And we've got Tyson or Ali.
Rich Davis
Yeah, those are. Those are good ones.
Sam
Yeah. And Barry Sanders or Emmett Smith? I'm sorry, Benny, you had one more.
Steve Covino
Is Walter Payton just above and beyond both? Is that how it works?
Rich Davis
No, I think it's Barry Sanders. Emmett was in a great system and had the best offensive line of all time and a winning team around them. I mean, Emmett Smith was fantastic and he's always been great to us, but Barry Sanders was on trash teams and still found ways.
Steve Covino
No, who else we got?
Sam
Yeah, thank you for that call. Ohio. Let's go to New Jersey. Mitch.
Rich Davis
Jersey. What up, Mitch?
Caller
What's poppin, guys?
Rich Davis
What's up, man?
Caller
I think this one. Tom Brady. Okay. I hope everything's well with you guys. Yeah. Tom Brady. John Elway. Who's the best quarterback? I rather put in Danny Marie. That's. That's. That's my choice.
Rich Davis
I mean, Elway, I've never heard him thrown in that conversation.
Steve Covino
I always heard. We actually talked about this off the air. It was like, for a minute, it was. It was Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, and then it was like Joe Montana or Tom Brady. And Tom Brady just separated himself from the pack.
Sam
Or greatest quarterback who never won a Super bowl ring.
Rich Davis
Then. Then your answer is Dan Marino. But it's like, you know, I think
Steve Covino
Tom Brady just totally just separated himself from the conversation. He's the guy.
Sam
All right, let's wrap this up with Tripp in Vegas.
Steve Covino
Hey, Trip.
Caller
Hey. Good afternoon, gentlemen. First of all, you're never wrong with just extra cheese pizza. And then I got three silly ones for you. Cats versus dogs. Star wars versus Star Trek. And then would you rather drown or burn to death?
Steve Covino
Okay, I got an answer.
Rich Davis
Well, you went dark. You went dark at the end there.
Steve Covino
All right, hold on. Dogs all the way. Yeah, dogs all the way. Nothing against cats, but dogs all the way.
Rich Davis
By the way, I have two special skills. I can't tell you one on the radio. And the other one is I can look at some. I realized.
Steve Covino
I realized where we were a second. Okay.
Rich Davis
And I realized I can look at someone and tell you if they're a dog or cat owner. And It's. I'm so like, I'm like 95%. I feel like you could tell what a cat owner looks like. Can I guess one here? I betcha Perfette owns a cat. One of the board ops.
Steve Covino
I think you're right.
Ryan Bursh
Yeah.
Rich Davis
I betcha Kyrus the engineer owns a cat. They're not sure on that one, but
Sam Buyer
the bill was for Chris.
Rich Davis
Who else was that then?
Steve Covino
My. Mm.
Rich Davis
Yeah. I feel like they're just. You're.
Steve Covino
You're.
Rich Davis
You're a cat person. I could tell.
Steve Covino
Star wars versus Star Trek.
Rich Davis
Star Wars.
Sam Buyer
Come on, come on.
Steve Covino
Star Wars. All day, every day, forever until the end of time. And drown or burn to death, man. You know, that is. You know, I'm gonna, I'm gonna have to think about that one.
Sam
That's a default. There's a brainwave question.
Steve Covino
Yeah, that's horrible right there.
Rich Davis
Do you rather have nipples for fingers or finger nipples?
Steve Covino
You know what? That's another one.
Sam Buyer
Definitely a raging one. How about like when you're gonna die or how you're gonna die? That's even more broad. Like yeah, when or how.
Steve Covino
Yeah, he did go real dark with that. So we'll think about it. But timeless and tired debates. The rest of your feedback at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
Rich Davis
If you want to play this game more, hit me up in my downtown because my daughter, that's her. One of her delay tactics to not go to sleep. She'll be like, dad, come lay with me. And she'll ask me all these would you rathers? And would you rather be stuck in an ocean knowing a shark was nearby or in a. Or in a forest knowing a bear was nearby?
Steve Covino
Definitely the forest. Because, you know, you're more agile on your feet at least.
Sam Buyer
Or to eat.
Steve Covino
Yeah, maybe being in the water.
Ryan Bursh
That's scary, dude.
Steve Covino
No doubt.
Rich Davis
All right, so we do this we
Steve Covino
something we do every Wednesday. Sort of a warm up to midweek. Major It's Mike who runs this take. Who's the microphone assassin.
Midweek Major Host
It's time for Mike who runs this take.
Caller
Who?
Dan Buyer
Big Mike may get to be in charge of the segment, but he still doesn't run this place. He really doesn't even run this segment when you think about it. Because his mic can be turned off by Sam at any moment.
Midweek Major Host
That may be true, but Big Mike does get to pick the topic and then C and R offer their strong opinions on it. Consider it a warm up to midweek. Major Mike, who runs this take.
Steve Covino
All right. Mike who runs this place? Well, he runs his take. And you know what he said, Guys, I'm sitting out on this take today. We said, why? Because he wants to give an opportunity to a guy he's worked with, a guy we've all worked with for a long time. So in for Mike, who runs his take, is Bershie boy. Jolly Bersh. Ryan Bursh, everybody.
Ryan Bursh
Hi, guys. I was about to try to do a Big Mike impersonation, and it's not as good as some of the others here.
Steve Covino
Do you have one? I would love to.
Rich Davis
Here.
Ryan Bursh
Everyone has one.
Geico Ad Voice
It's.
Steve Covino
It always starts with that, though.
Rich Davis
It always starts with, like, a grunt.
Sam
I. I really love DB's take.
Ryan Bursh
The best. The best.
Steve Covino
Oh, you know who else does a good one? Veto, though.
Ryan Bursh
It's a good one. Patrick will tell you that his is also in the conversation, but it's. It's not. It's okay. It's better than mine. I'll give him that.
Steve Covino
All right, so. Hey, Ryan Burch, take it away.
Ryan Bursh
Well, thank you. Yes. Big Mike conceded his time to me today because I have a hot take. I got a big, hot take.
Steve Covino
Okay.
Ryan Bursh
Mike doesn't run this place. I do.
Steve Covino
Wow.
Ryan Bursh
And now it's all going to fall apart. I'm. I'm. This is my last week at Fox Sports Radio. I have been at FSR for over 10 years. I interned here in 2014. I was an intern on J. Moore Sports.
Midweek Major Host
Wow.
Ryan Bursh
Where I worked with Dan every day. I worked with John Ramos every day. I worked with Greg Tuohy every day. And from then on, I got hired after. After I graduated college, and I've been here ever since.
Rich Davis
Did you know Big Mike when he had hair?
Ryan Bursh
No. No. Mike looked exactly the same day.
Steve Covino
He was always old.
Ryan Bursh
Yes.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Dan Buyer
Wow.
Steve Covino
Well, first off, before you go any further, man, congratulations.
Rich Davis
Journey here.
Steve Covino
Ten years at any place in today's world is 100.
Ryan Bursh
Yeah.
Steve Covino
Especially in this business. So congratulations. Have you seen so many people come and go? You've maintained a, you know, great reputation here. Working with Mike, that's a tough thing to do. So congrats on that, man.
Rich Davis
Ever hook you up with good Lakers tickets or.
Ryan Bursh
No, that was. That was pre.
Rich Davis
Pre.
Ryan Bursh
Yeah. He had Genie bus on as a. As a guest one time when I was interning, and, like, I was like, oh, this is weird. Like, there's real chemistry here. And he was married at the time. That wasn't. That was prior to. I was like, this is odd, though.
Rich Davis
Did he make her a Spotify playlist?
Steve Covino
By the way, Burch, not to Interrupt. Did you see that Vrabel changed his name on the playlist because it said and Mike, right?
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
And then it was changed to like tie car. And I saw this on Jim Rome and it took like a 30 second Google search. The name of his sons are Tyler and like Carson or something.
Ryan Bursh
Oh boy.
Steve Covino
So I was like, dude, this guy's the worst. Easy to figure out.
Sam Buyer
It's you.
Steve Covino
You're the icon.
Ryan Bursh
I, I just for the record, I'm not trying to insinuate that Jay was cheating. I, I think that they, that they, I thought that they were just good friends. Like, and I'm sure that they were. And, and, and Jay's in a much better place now. And, and he's. That they have a great relationship. Yeah, they have. Yeah. Yeah. Much better place as a great relationship. I really look up to them.
Sam
Wow, way to make awful announcing on your last week at fsr.
Ryan Bursh
I know I was going to come on here and the job I had prior to this, I got fired from. And I mean I, there's still time for this one, but I, I'm here until Friday. But no, I was, When I was in college, I had a part time job. I worked at a Cold Stone slash subway. Okay. Like, it was one of those where the, the room was one side subway, the other half was Cold Stone. I was hired at Coldstone, but I could do both. I was.
Steve Covino
You were really good.
Rich Davis
I have a question. Was it. Those were those the days where they would actually like sing a little song if you tip them.
Ryan Bursh
Oh, I feel like it Cold at Cold Stone.
Rich Davis
You used to, I feel like when you'd give a tip at Cold Stone, throw a couple bucks in, they'd ring a bell and everyone would sing a little song or something.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Ryan Bursh
So it was those days. But we didn't do it because we, we just said, hey, we're not owned by Cold Stone. We're actually owned by Subway. And Subway says we, we don't, we don't sing for tips. So. Sorry, guys. Yeah, that was our line. It worked. Every time I got fired from that Cold Stone, I got fired on the 4th of July. It was because when, whenever my friends would come in, which, by the way, every single person did this. Every employee did this. When your friends come in, they would ask for a. Like it. You know, because they had to like it, love it, gotta have it. And you would, you know, you. There was the, the sizing system was subjective. Okay. Like, I love it, gotta have it doesn't mean small, medium, large. It means whatever. It means so, you know, you would. You would, like, accidentally scoop a little too much and then, oh, oh, shoot. I just made a. Gotta have it on accident. Well, I made it. I'm not gonna not give it to you, so I'm just. But you asked for, like, it, so I'm gonna sell it to you at
Rich Davis
that price you got busted for. Gotta have it.
Ryan Bursh
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rich Davis
The weakest reason everyone got fired.
Ryan Bursh
Everyone did it, I guess.
Dan Buyer
By the way, I think ice cream is the only food that I would not want too much of.
Ryan Bursh
Right.
Dan Buyer
Because it just melts. Like, otherwise you're like, okay, I just leave the fries here, whatever.
Ryan Bursh
But that's. That's a good point. I think everybody, when they see ice cream being made and they're like, oh, man, I'm getting. I'm getting more than I asked for. This is great. And I'm not gonna have to pay for that extra. That's awesome.
Rich Davis
Gotta have it.
Ryan Bursh
Yeah.
Steve Covino
They typically have you on camera and you got fired for that. Oh, my God, how embarrassing.
Ryan Bursh
And this wasn't like something where I did something else and I deserve to be fired. I. I would like to say that I was a good employee. I didn't do anything wrong. And I heard you made a hell
Rich Davis
of a cold cut combo, too.
Ryan Bursh
Cold cuts were pre made. They were in the. The plastic. You would just throw it on there and. Yeah, so I flew through that delicious. One night. They had like a work meeting and they timed how fast we can make a foot long. And I was like, one of the slower times. But my Subway looked. Imagine my. My sandwich looked immaculate.
Rich Davis
You were, you were a sandwich artist.
Ryan Bursh
I was a sandwich artist. I wasn't just throwing it on there. Stupid thing. We all made a foot long and they were like, okay, well, you can't eat them because we're just gonna count this as waste. You guys don't get free sandwiches, which was awesome. A really poor company. Subway. I'm sure they're struggling anyway on his final week.
Rich Davis
So are we going to go over the weakest, most epic farewells or what are we doing?
Ryan Bursh
Yeah. So I think I've been thinking about this this week. Like, what's. What's the way to go out? You know, at your job? You guys were talking about LeBron and if. If that's the way to go out, like, if this is it for him, should he have done a farewell tour? I've been thinking about that this week. And when I'm. How. How should I spend my final week? There's some things I'm doing, like every day. I'm trying to eat at places around here that I always, like, saw. And I was like, it's so good.
Steve Covino
You know why? Because the routine is over. Yeah. Something that was such a big part of your life for the past 10 years.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
You're not going to be doing that again. You even got to say goodbye to the guy at the nearest deli or something.
Ryan Bursh
Right.
Steve Covino
Because he's gonna think you died because he's not gonna see you anymore.
Ryan Bursh
I just. I just did that with the security guard at the building here, this super nice guy. His name is jb. I've. I've said hi to him every day for years. I didn't know his name until an hour ago when I went up to him and finally talked to him.
Rich Davis
It's funny you would say that, because when we left New York to move to the west coast to work with SiriusXM, ESPN and now Fox Sports Radio, Covino made fun of me. He called it the Rich Davis farewell tour. Because I went around town letting people know, like, hey, the coffee guy I saw, like, hey, I'm moving. I don't like. Because again, I think if you don't say goodbye to these people, they do wonder. They'll be like, what happened to Ryan Birch? What happened to.
Steve Covino
Again, you don't think about those things. That's why it's a great reminder. It's like Rich and I used to get soup all the time at this place called Halen Hardy in New York City. And we would go there all the time. And subway, we would go to all these same places and then all of a sudden you move or your time shift changes or your routine changes and you never go to those places again. So to take it in one last time, I think that's a great idea and a great reminder because you think you're going to have all these mental snapshots, but you forget and you move on in this.
Rich Davis
Whatever's next to tie it to tie to Best farewell. I have a best farewell and I have a good firing story as well. Best farewells in sports, if you're going to go sports, is the number one answer for everyone. Have to be John Elway.
Steve Covino
Oh, I was going to Antonio Brown.
Sam
Rich.
Steve Covino
That one.
Sam
And I remember famously, Kareem Abdul Jabbar was given a rocking chair and he looked at it like, the hell is this?
Rich Davis
That's funny.
Sam
Yeah, he didn't. He wasn't smiling a lot through his farewell tour.
Steve Covino
Who started? Was it Kareem or like, was It Derek Jeter, like, when did it really become a thing to do a farewell tour? Because as we said earlier, bro, you're right. Like LeBron said. Or there's speculation that LeBron might not even want that sort of farewell.
Dan Buyer
I don't know when Kareem's last year was, but I was in attendance for Dr. J's last game ever. They lost to the bucks in the first round of the playoffs of game five. But I remember Dr. J had had a farewell tour and this would have been in 1987.
Steve Covino
So he had a farewell tour, not just one.
Dan Buyer
Not like, I don't know if every arena did, but you know, places, you know, they faced the Lakers in the finals, you know, so like, so the Lakers would give them something and Boston did. But I know Dr. J had some stops and then. And I think Kareem was right after that. Danny. I can't remember exactly when Kareem retired. I thought maybe it was a year or two later than that, but. But that would have been around the time that those things started that I remember.
Steve Covino
Part of the deal birth. Should you send your like goodbye email to the company? Because that's part of the process nowadays, right? Because how many times do you get an email? Like, I don't even know this person. Delete. Beat it. How many times you get some random email?
Rich Davis
It's been a really four year journey for you. Like four year journey. You don't deserve an email.
Sam Buyer
Get a shout out from Fritzi. I know he replied and said, hey, best of luck, man.
Steve Covino
And you know what? 10 years, that. That's worthy of a hey, farewell, goodbye in an email. Rich is right. Sometimes it's like it's been a great two years. Like great two years. Beat it.
Sam Buyer
How about a decade? How about ten years?
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Verse has hit it.
Sam Buyer
More than that.
Caller
More than that.
Rich Davis
First has hit it. I would say great farewells in sports. One more. I hate to say it, the fact that your guy, Derek Jeter had a walk off opposite field base hit in like typical Jeter fashion at Yankee Stadium final home game.
Geico Ad Voice
Yeah.
Rich Davis
I was like, this is gross, dude.
Steve Covino
His. His career was such a fantasy. Like every big moment like that, his 3,000th hit was a home run. So many great moments like that. Incredible.
Rich Davis
It's.
Steve Covino
It's got to be the top after probably John Elway, which you said. But it doesn't have to be great. Maybe memorable. I jokingly said Antonio Brown or you know, when.
Ryan Bursh
What about Kobe? Kobe's final game?
Rich Davis
I mean, Jesus.
Steve Covino
Yeah. Oh my God.
Ryan Bursh
Yeah.
Rich Davis
That.
Ryan Bursh
That's. That's one of the most memorable. Sure, it wasn't a playoff game or a championship, but in terms of, like, what he did, that game was all about Kobe and the fact that he went off in the way he did it was incredible.
Rich Davis
No doubt.
Steve Covino
Anything else that you're gonna do? Like I said, are you gonna steal anything from here, like, as a keepsake, like, you know what I mean? Like, is there something else you're gonna do? Make sure. Yeah, maybe Fred's hard hat, you know,
Rich Davis
but honestly, you should steal something from Big Mike's office.
Ryan Bursh
Like one of his bottle heads. Yeah, yeah. One of the bobbleheads. One thing I am going to do is, where's my UCLA bear?
Rich Davis
I had five of them.
Sam Buyer
Now there's only four.
Ryan Bursh
I do have a lot of different audio saved from the last 10 years. One thing was, you know, I did a Dodger podcast with Beau called Swing Shift for a few years. I have a whole bunch of episodes saved on the computers here, so I'm going to take all of those and get to keep that with me. Yeah. In terms of physically, I'm going to have to see one of Mike's things.
Rich Davis
Equipment, too.
Steve Covino
I'm being serious right now. We're having fun, but you think you know your last goodbye when you walk out, you're going to turn around, take it in, and then maybe shed one a little bit.
Ryan Bursh
It's. I have not gotten emotional yet, which I am an emotional guy. So.
Steve Covino
Garen Rogers leaving Green Bay.
Caller
Yeah.
Sam
By the way, you're going to be able to hear his goodbye right here on our show because he's participating in Brainwave with us on Friday night.
Steve Covino
Oh, wow.
Ryan Bursh
Yeah.
Steve Covino
That's crazy.
Ryan Bursh
See, if he cries, Friday is going to be cool because we're all going to go to BDubs after you guys show, and that will probably because, you know, I might have a drink or two.
Sam Buyer
Yeah. That stokes the emotional.
Ryan Bursh
Then the tears are just going to flow.
Rich Davis
Oh, my goodness.
Sam Buyer
The beer will flow and the tears will flow.
Ryan Bursh
Right.
Rich Davis
Burst tears. Burst tears.
Steve Covino
Not only in sports, but the farewells and, you know, are they always deserving, too? Is part of the take. Does everybody deserve a farewell? Or sometimes you just move on. I think you have to put in over at least over five years to really, like, be considered, like, hey, let's have a party for this guy, or whatever. I think of the movie Half Baked and I think of Scarface. I think that's a classic scene in. In movies and classic moment where he quits the place. Like, F you. F you. You're cool. F you. I'm out. Like, I think that's a classic one in movies.
Rich Davis
You know what everyone loves coming with.
Steve Covino
Who's coming with, who's coming with. That's another one. That's another great one.
Rich Davis
People love to say. People love to say, like, if I won the lottery or quit a job, I want to own a poop on my boss's desk. Dude, everybody says that, but I wonder anyone's ever. You did you beat me, Rich? Can't say that.
Sam Buyer
You're a little too descriptive there.
Rich Davis
Go check out the podcast to hear
Sam Buyer
Rich rate right now.
Rich Davis
Sam, thank you for protecting me. You are a great offensive lineman.
Steve Covino
I'm a reckless quarterback.
Sam Buyer
I guess I'm a good guard.
Dan Buyer
Instead of taking something from Mike's office, he would leave something.
Steve Covino
He would leave something in Mike's office on Mike's desk.
Rich Davis
There you go.
Sam Buyer
Can I share a quick story?
Steve Covino
Sure.
Sam Buyer
Because Bersch is a good friend of mine. We've become really good friends the last five years. I'd say we've worked together for over 10 years now.
Steve Covino
Do you feel like he's leaving you behind, Sam?
Rich Davis
Well, here's the thing.
Sam Buyer
I started it. Kind of. Because I started it. My 10 year anniversary at Fox Sports Radio is coming up on like May 3rd, so he's gonna be gone by then. And it's like this seismic shift of someone I've worked with for 10 years. And one of my friends that, you know, I went to his, you know, Burch and I have hung out. We, you know, I went to his wedding.
Rich Davis
And you care about him so much. Last like two weeks ago, you're like, I'm gonna go to Bersch's house and watch slides from his honeymoon. I'm like, oh, yeah.
Sam Buyer
No, I told him. I was like, bursh, you and your wife meet. Meet me at a Toppers Pizza in Simi Valley and tell me all about your honeymoon. And you know, over in Asia, and it was great and we had some great pizza. But let's go. Two super. Wait, go ahead, Dan.
Dan Buyer
That's. That's why he wanted to meet up. He told me that when he told me that there's like different Toppers or something and there's only certain ones that he likes. So one of them.
Sam Buyer
No, they're all in the same area.
Rich Davis
Okay.
Dan Buyer
Because there's one up by us they're all bragging about. So I think they're. I think that's why he wanted to go.
Sam Buyer
I could have just gone and ate by myself. I did want to hear about the. The honeymoon.
Steve Covino
But you know what, though? Sam on a series. And I want to hear your. Your take quick. I think we all could relate to, like, you worked with for so long, and it does feel weird when that person leaves and you're like you're there. You know, like, we've all had, like, someone you shared an office with or someone you worked with and they moved on, and you're like, do I feel like you have that feeling, too?
Sam
What about when you're the last one?
Steve Covino
That. That's. That's the feeling.
Sam Buyer
It feels like the end ending of the sandlot where they tell you where the guys go and then they disappear, and it's like you're kind of sad about it. You're like, little Jimmy went off and had a family, and he moved to Utah and never. No one ever saw from him again.
Steve Covino
And Sam stayed there by himself.
Sam Buyer
And then the only one left was me, Sam. But quickly, two super bowls ago. So this is the New Orleans super bowl. I was working with Burch. We were doing radio row. Dan was on updates, and we were talking about, like, New Orleans cuisine. This drop has never made the air before. It's only just been circulating in circles here, fsr. But instead of turning Dan Byers mic on for the update, I accidentally turned Bershinger's mic on, and he was talking about New Orleans cuisine, and he said this.
Rich Davis
Some of that crawl fish.
Ryan Bursh
So when the. When we went live at the top of Doug's show, instead of the update playing, that's what played down the line, which I was saying some of that because Doug was talking about crawfish. So I. I thought he heard it and then heard me, like, mocking him. In essence, I turned pershing.
Sam Buyer
So that went over the air. Probably shouldn't have admitted
Steve Covino
one more time.
Sam Buyer
Give me some of that crawl fish.
Steve Covino
So now we open up the phone lines. Mike, who runs his take. Burch is in for Mike who bur Burch, who's leaving on Friday. And we ask you the most epic exits of all time. The most epic way to leave a job. 87799 on Fox.
Rich Davis
And of course, Sam's got midweek major.
Steve Covino

Rich Davis
Got to make time for all that, so hang tight. More Kavino and Rich next. Thank you, Burch, right here on Fox radio.

Rich Davis
Major.
Steve Covino
Ooh, I love that.
Midweek Major Host
We throw sports and pop culture headlines and topics at the fellas. And it's like the kids say, that's
Steve Covino
so mid week, definitely major.
Midweek Major Host
CNR scoring midweek major.
Steve Covino
Aw, yeah.
Sam
Gotta go really quick here to give Iowa Sam at least seven minutes for this. You hear the horns, you've made it to the middle of the work week. We roll the two big red love dice over there to see who gets the first take.
Rich Davis
Tied. We tied.
Steve Covino
All right, we have a roll off.
Rich Davis
One dice each. One die.
Steve Covino
Ready?
Rich Davis
You win.
Steve Covino
I got three. Rich got one. I win. Covino gets to go first.
Sam
And now the most famous person besides Brian Bell of Weezer from Iowa City, Iowa. Iowa.
Stegatz
Sam.
Rich Davis
Hey, Sammy.
Sam Buyer
Hey, guys.
Rich Davis
Let's get into it, buddy.
Sam Buyer
What you got? Get into it. I did not pick this story, guys, because Danny G. Is a diehard Raiders fan. But behold, an NFL free agent signing at the kicker position that is already growing legs among Raider fans. He is the Tokyo Toe. Kansei Matsuzawa taught himself how to place kick while living in native Japan using YouTube instructional videos. He also taught himself English and eventually found his way to a junior college in Ohio. And then he finished the. And then he finished a successful stint at the University of Hawaii. Full disclosure, I had no idea who this guy was. I didn't know about his Rainbow Rainbow Warrior greatness at the time, but the Tokyo Toe has a good chance of making the Las Vegas roster. Hold on. Daniel Carlson. He wasn't resigned. Thank you, Danny, for that bit of info. It's the Toe versus the other kicker on the team, recent signing Matthew Gay. Come see the Tokyo Toe in Vegas. Sounds like a draw to me. Midweek or major?
Steve Covino
This is major. Only because of the story and because of Danny G. And the Raiders. They're just a major team to look out for with Fernando Mendoza and Tom Brady and all the moving parts and Genti and this and dude, the Nick. You had me at Tokyo. You had me at the nickname. I think a good nickname goes a long way. And like, how could you forget that?
Rich Davis
Now, let me tell you, I think it's major.
Ryan Bursh
Definitely.
Steve Covino
I think the Raiders are a major storyline, period.
Rich Davis
So between Mendoza and Brady having an active role and all these players that you feel like, oh, maybe they're in position to do well now, like, like you said, like a Genti Or a Bowers. They get some weapons now. Yo, the Tokyo Toad. Just another fun little gimmick for a team that has been in the basement so long. And Danny, I'm rooting for your team to really make some fun noise this year.
Sam
Oh, I hope so.
Sam Buyer
Think about it. He's a Japanese kicker. He's a little closer to the West Coast. Maybe it draws people in. Maybe it's a reason to go see the Raiders.
Rich Davis
Tokyo toe, bro.
Sam Buyer
Tokyo toe, bro. All right, let's move on. Another football related story here. Brendan Sorsby, former Indiana Hoosier quarterback turned Cincinnati Bearcat turned Texas Tech Red Raider, has entered a treatment program not for an issue like substance abuse, but rather for a massive gambling addiction. Sores. Sorby is accused of placing thousands of bets on sporting events while as an active college athlete. A few of those bets on his own Indiana team. When he was there as a true freshman, Sorsby arrived at Texas Tech as one of college football's highest paid athletes. But his eligibility is now in certain jeopardy. Jocks with a sports gambling addiction. Midweek or major?
Steve Covino
Major.
Ryan Bursh
Definitely major.
Steve Covino
I think this is major. I'm gonna say this carefully and respectfully. You know, we live in a time and culture where everybody thinks, thinks they're going to be the next YouTube star or whatever. We also live in a culture where all these kids think they're going to make their next fortune by betting on the weather. Right. And betting on predictions or crypto. Or crypto or hitting it big like that. And I think these things with the wrong people. Like a guy like me, I don't have an addictive personality in that way. So yeah, if I, you know, drop some money on a prediction or on an investment, whatever, but some people get really caught up in that and it could be a, it could be a life changer, put it that way, if not handled properly. So I think this could be a major issue moving forward.
Rich Davis
I agree. It's very major.
Steve Covino
It's too accessible.
Rich Davis
It's major because like you said, the culture we live in now, where I read an article that younger generation, the post college kids feel like they have a better chance to win money or make a tricky quick buck investment than actually get into a career and earn a living the old fashioned way. So, you know, wagering sites, this feeds that, that need. Yeah, the prediction market, wagering sites, crypto, NFTs, these, if done responsibly, are really fun things. But a lot of people are not responsible.
Sam Buyer
You're betting on your own team, you know, you're if you're a college athlete, you have to completely stay away from all that stuff because then you're calling the integrity of the game slippery slope, buddy boy. All right, let's go on another story here. For some reason I love crime stories over more like, you know, pop culture stories. Last week I had the guy swapping out the Lego pieces for the dry pasta. This week, let me quote the offspring. If you're under 18, you won't be doing any time but two 18 year old men in Florida were busted for a brazen social media stunt over the weekend. Jannik, I'm gonna try to say this. Janika Skrevarek is accused of taking a riding lawnmower into a Target store in Marion County, Florida. I watched the video. He can't quite find make it through the doors on his first attempt, seemingly damaging them. He then drives into the store, likely causing some mild hysteria. His pal and social media ride or die cameraman was also arrested. Guys, criminal record accruing a criminal record doing some dumb crap for the TikTok Looksy daisies midweek or major?
Steve Covino
I'll say major. You know what?
Ryan Bursh
Definitely major.
Steve Covino
It's no surprise that a Florida man does something dumb. We see those headlines all the time.
Rich Davis
Young Florida man.
Steve Covino
Young Florida man. Man does something dumb. Not a surprise there. But I, I think that some of these young cats need to start learning their lessons. You're messing with the wrong people. You're doing all these things for the clicks. You know, people are going to get hurt out there. And, and I don't know, I just think this, this story is, is on that track of someone's going to get
Rich Davis
hurt one day someone's gonna get hurt. And by the way, I, I think it's more mid.
Caller
That's so mid.
Rich Davis
But it is like someone's gonna get hurt. Or even better, someone's gonna get punched in the nose. I see videos all the time where someone will, I don't know, put a bucket on someone's head in Home Depot and pretend it wasn't them.
Steve Covino
And you're assuming like mess with the wrong guy.
Rich Davis
Yeah, you mess with the wrong guy, you're gonna get punched in the nose. Like you ever see someone like go behind someone and whisper in their ear and the guy's like, what are you doing?
Steve Covino
Like, I mean, it's happened before. Someone. Didn't someone get shot?
Rich Davis
Remember that clip in a food court?
Steve Covino
In a food court, yeah. So you know, people are gonna have to learn that you can't mess around. Not everything's a joke. Not everything's a click. And you know know everyone's looking for that cheap viral moment.
Rich Davis
Your answer can't always be like, bro, relax, I'm recording. Yeah, record. I'll still punch you in the nose.
Sam Buyer
And. And these guys were also captured I think at a Culver's with like a leaf blower doing another stunt. So they'd already kind of run up like a track record of of nonsense.
Rich Davis
So I saw a dude with a leaf blower on TikTok blowing women's weaves off their head.
Steve Covino
Oh yeah.
Rich Davis
You do that to the wrong person. A different disrespectful. Regardless, you got to get your ass whooped. So.
Sam Buyer
Or worse. Yeah.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Thank you.
Sam Buyer
I was all I got for you. Thank you.
Rich Davis
Let's go to Dan Buyer for an update. DB what's going on, my friend?
Dan Buyer
What, what's happening?
Steve Covino
Guys?
Dan Buyer

Rich Davis
Thank you, buyer. Now we wrap the show with with what?
Steve Covino
Kavito Fernando Mendoza just signed his first NFL autograph card.
Rich Davis

I have a question for you guys before we get to this. Mendoza, Tom Brady story. Danny G. Dalton rushing your backup catcher, Will Smith's understudy. I'm using Broadway terms.
Sam
Oh, you love how rushing went off against your Mets, huh?
Rich Davis
No, Dalton rushing. Did you see this play from last night where he's in the batter's box, makes eye contact with the umpire and he goes, time out, looks a second time and goes, timeout, please. The umpire nods, yup, yes, then calls him for a pitch clock violation. And everyone is like, baffled. The announcers, Dave Roberts, everyone's like, what is going on? Like, there was a clear understanding of like a timeout. Do you think there should be some type of, hey, man, I had a brain fart. Because this umpire clearly, yeah, like, do you know what I'm saying? Like, you know, sometimes you, you're just.
Sam
Because he granted it and yeah, you
Rich Davis
know, like sometimes you just get lost in the moment in any job you have, unfortunately, hopefully it's not an important job. But we all have those moments where you're like, dude, I'm sorry. I was like, not really paying attention.
Steve Covino
Sometimes it's just a regular fart that throws you off. It does. It's not always just a brain fart.
Rich Davis
No, but it's, sorry. This guy straight up grants him the timeout and then like almost forgets he does and he's out.
Steve Covino
How do you do that? There's Some confusion going on. Even in the Yankees game today. Earlier today, they lost to the Rangers. There was a strikeout. Throw him out. But during the strikeout, it was an ABS challenge and it was strike three, but they threw him out. And the guy stopped going to second because he was like, I thought it was ball four. And it was like, yo. But dude, you don't stop running because you think it's ball four.
Rich Davis
Oh, yeah, I know.
Steve Covino
Called the ABS challenge to strike. So strike three and you're out. Yeah. So there's lots of different things going on. There's a lot of moving parts that the umpires are. They're still confused by maybe. So maybe this dude's thinking about something else. Maybe he has gas. I don't know what's going on because, yeah, he missed that completely.
Rich Davis
You know, it's interesting, you know how we've talked about how in baseball they're doing reverse framing now.
Steve Covino
Reverse framing with the catchers, in other words, catchers trying to make it look
Rich Davis
like a ball when it's a strike.
Steve Covino
It was a ball, but it was actually a strike just to get the
Rich Davis
guy to challenge because they want the other team to waste their challenges.
Steve Covino
You're deking the challenge kind of.
Rich Davis
There may be other shenanigans just based on what you said, Danny, what if a. What if a team's like, all right, Ste. Like if you steal run through no matter what, because you could almost. You could.
Steve Covino
They might change. Change the call.
Rich Davis
You could ab. You could abs hop. It's a striker ball. And all of a sudden you catch a guy sleeping saying, all right, I'll just walk to second.
Steve Covino
You'll see it later. There's a lot of different things going on.
Rich Davis
It's like, you know, Bill Belichick would manipulate timeout calling until they caught him. Like, all right, we got to adjust that. You're seeing it in baseball, but. All right, let's. Let's wrap with Brady and Mendoza. Mendoza signs his first ever official tops NFL card. And of course, I mean, the card.
Steve Covino
It's like the Jose Canseco rated Rookie. It's the 86 rated rookie of today. This is Fernando Mendoza's rookie card autographed. And who's jumping at it? TB12 himself already says, I'm buying this Brady on Mendoza's first rookie card.
Rich Davis
But is that. Is that a. Is that a good look? Meaning, like, I believe in this kid so much. Like, I almost feel like it's a Tom Brady trying to give a little extra confidence boost.
Caller
That.
Sam
That and I was going to say cove because you know Tom Brady, he has these card shops. I think he has a card vault. I think.
Steve Covino
I don't know why I'm thinking He has like 13 of them. I feel like I heard him say that once before. He has a bunch of them. Yeah, he owns all these high end shops.
Rich Davis
He have 12.
Steve Covino
Yeah, he should. I think he. Yeah, let me double check that.
Rich Davis
I don't know why, but I think Danny, I think he wanted for one of his shops that Brady wants in. But I think also it's the right move because if Brady's already a collector, what a great confidence. Look in that, yo. I feel like this is going to be valuable, like above and beyond because you're my guy and I believe in you. Fernando.
Sam
Yeah, I mean he knows he's a future pro Bowler.
Rich Davis
Not like when I bought all those Todd Van Poppel cars or Greg Jeffries
Steve Covino
or my Greg Jeffrey future star collection,
Rich Davis
man, I had like 18 of those.
Steve Covino
Yeah. Tom Brady holds a 50 stake in CARD vault and he has over a dozen now 13 or expanding to maybe 14 locations by the end of the year. So yeah, he wants it, so you can't have it.
Rich Davis

The show maintains its signature blend of inside jokes, pop culture references, and authentic emotional moments. Hosts poke fun at each other, genuinely support their colleagues, and riff on serious and absurd sports news alike. The language is informal and brisk, with plenty of sports radio catchphrases and offbeat humor.
This episode is a celebration of sports debates, transitions, and the camaraderie that builds in a long-running broadcast team. With the departure of a key teammate, C&R reflect (often hilariously) on what it means to say goodbye—whether it’s to a player’s legendary career or a coworker’s daily banter. Through classic sports talk bravado and genuine sentiment, they remind listeners why even the “mid” moments in sports and life can end up feeling “major.”
